Being a woman is about being a woman. That's the only thing you're right about. Men aren't women. It's not doomerism it's literally a fact. It must be hard for you having to make up all these excuses as to not have to face simple reality.
You don't get pity points for being delusional enough to mutilate your body. You're still a man.
Especially when you go on the internet saying trans people have it the worst because you're being denied hormones and a spot on a sports team. Trans women face violence? Well so does just about everyone else. A woman dies to femicide every 10 minutes from a family member or intimate partner. Globally it's around 80,000 a year.
Gender stereotypes are the whole thing you base your identity on. Y'all are the main reason they aren't going anywhere. You claim oppression from them when you're the main ones upholding the damn system.
You talk about Janice Raymond so much. Funnily enough her Wikipedia lists all the good stuff she's worked hard against, including sexual exploitation, violence and medical abuse of women before even mentioning trans people. Oh no what a horrible woman who fights for women's rights and doesn't pander to trans people. Tragic.
If you're apparently a woman why do you always take the stance that a man would? 💀
I care about women and women only. And no, you aren't just existing if you dedicate a whole blog to annoy radfems and try to change our minds to cater to men (surprise, we won't) word of advice, stick to the libfems. You are about as "feminist" as they are I'm sure you'll fit right in.
And I don't play honkai impact actually. I play genshin and HSR. And I don't see how that's relevant at all.

This post relies on a really rigid definition of "woman" that actually goes against core radical feminist ideas. Radical feminism has always fought against the idea that biology determines a woman’s role in society. The whole point is to challenge the system that says women are defined by their bodies rather than their oppression under patriarchy.
Saying that being a woman is only about being "an adult human female" ignores the fact that gender is a system of power designed to keep men in control. Radical feminists have spent decades arguing that gender is not just about biology—it’s about the way patriarchy structures society.
If gender is a tool of oppression, then it makes no sense to say that only people with certain bodies can be part of the fight against it.
Trans women face a lot of the same kinds of gender-based violence and oppression that cis women do. Denying their womanhood because of biology doesn’t challenge patriarchy—it actually reinforces it.
Historically, plenty of radical feminists have supported trans women. Feminists like Sylvia Rivera and Sandy Stone fought for trans inclusion, and even Monique Wittig argued that being a woman isn’t just about biology—it’s about rejecting the gender roles imposed by patriarchy.
TERF arguments act like trans-inclusive radical feminism is a contradiction, but the truth is, excluding trans women just plays into the same biological determinism that feminists have been fighting against for years.
If radical feminism is about dismantling patriarchal gender structures, then trans women belong in that fight. Excluding them isn’t radical—it’s just enforcing the same oppressive definitions that patriarchy has always used.

Omg that's true!!
I'm so tired of these people saying Vi and Caitlyn's relationship is toxic, I mean literally the same thing she said Jinx and her relationship with Ekko wasn't good either and Jayce and Viktor too.
It is natural for problems and disagreements to occur in relationships, but it is not natural to think that a relationship will be peaceful and good all the time. These things only exist in Disney movies.
But apart from all that. Seriously guys hating on Vi or Caitlyn or both is way over the top. Like let's just imagine JUST IMAGINE, if Vi were male, the narrative surrounding her actions and character would change dramatically. She would likely be hailed as a "brother hero," a model of loyalty and kindness despite impossible circumstances. Her trauma, in prison, losing Vander, failing to save Jinx, and so on, would be sympathized with as a testament to her strength and determination.
Her status as the “bad sister” is undoubtedly tied to gender expectations. Women, especially older sisters, are often burdened with the role of caregiver, and are expected to be endlessly compassionate and self-sacrificing. Vi’s moments of anger, guilt, and mistakes, however, conflict with societal stereotypes of women as the natural “fixers” of emotional and familial conflicts. The fact that Vi is pigeonholed as the “bad sister” while Jinx is often seen as the tragic victim reflects deeper gender biases. Vi’s traumas and emotional wounds are ignored or minimized because she is expected to be the “strong one,” while Jinx is given sympathy and a more nuanced lens because her messiness and vulnerability fit into certain stereotypes of women who are broken or in need of saving.
It’s a frustrating double standard, and it underscores just how progressive Arcane is by refusing to fully give into those tropes. Vi’s character still shines as someone strong, flawed, and deeply human, but the criticisms she faces highlight how society treats female characters with such biases.
The misogyny is REAL and don’t think for a second that other women aren’t fully participating in that also. The amount of shit Vi gets for temporarily joining the Enforcers with Caitlyn to stop Jinx is insane. A male Vi would have been seen as a TORTURED HERO for joining up with the EVIL FORCES that took his parents away all so he could do HERO THINGS. But Vi does it? “Wah wah she joined the COPS she’s A TRAITOR THE REAL VI WOULD NEVER”. Like. Watch the show, my friends, and you will see she did what she thought was best and it was a very complex and very emotional decision for her; she hated every second of that uniform. But no, people shit on Vi and then complain like any of them could write a better show. Ugh.
And nobody would have hated a male Vi for having his love scene. Nobody. In fact, it would have been EXPECTED, but because Vi’s a woman, and a lesbian expressing her big gay love for her gorgeous gay lover, some people refuse to see her humanity and her growth as a person in that moment. I'm so tired
And the argument that we hate them because they did bad things is not true, I have seen people hate Caitlyn just because she is lesbian and one of them said if she was a straight woman I would have accepted her character on the show. Seriously this is someone who takes his criticism seriously, he forgot the story and everything in the show and focused on whether the characters are gay or straight or worse when I saw a comment from someone saying why are the main characters on the show female characters? Like is this an idiot or is he drug or what exactly? I think we should also ask, why do men always take the lead roles and when they are evil they are better, and if they are good they are also better, but if a woman comes along who is evil or wants to be evil or does just one mistake everyone hates her and she is the worst person in the world, but men are the only ones who deserve to play the role of evil and do bad things and we will sympathize with them and love them. THIS IS CRAZY!!
To understand what I'm saying more, compare Viktor's character and Caitlyn's character and you will see that Caitlyn was the character who was criticized the most even though she didn't kill anyone innocent and in the end she tried to fix things, while Viktor tried to kill all the people of Piltover and Zaun and didn't care about anyone, even his friend's pleas, he didn't care about them and Viktor thought that this was the solution but to end the conflicts between the two cities. But is there anyone who criticizes this, is there anyone who says that this is a bad act, of course not, yes you will see some people justifying it, as they did with Silco, the person who killed an entire family for control and drowned all of Zaun with shimmer and made the children work in dangerous factories, and there is not a single criticism, and people defend him even after Jinx's condition worsened, no they say that he is better than Caitlyn, my god like what the fuck!?
Then they tell you we don't hate women we don't hate gays or lesbians, just shut the fuck up, everything is clear, Arcane revealed to us that there are still people who are fanatic and traditional to the extreme who still want to see a man as the hero of the story and that all people and women should respect him even if he is evil and cruel he is always better than this bullshit, Arcane proved to us that it is possible for both sexes to appear in an excellent, strong and realistic way without insulting or belittling the other because these things are not useful and will not help in telling the story in any way.
Quick note I don't hate Jinx or Viktor and many of you who follow me know that I love Viktor very much but I will not deny the bad things he did and I am also really tired of the hypocrisy of some people and their constant criticism of other characters and characters. Just bc they say like these characters
Like I don't like Silco but have you ever seen me post every day criticizing Silco and Silco fans all the time or go to Silco fans and tell them if you like Silco then you support child labor and the drug trade and blah blah. Like they do with Caitlyn fans when one of them says he likes Caitlyn they accuse him of supporting collective punishment and corrupt governments and police brutality just because he likes a fictional character. I've never seen such stupidity and backwardness and bullshit in my life, just because I like a fictional character you think I will act like her in real life?? These people need to grow up seriously or find a job

I've always, always, always, argued that SJM's racism is intentional. People undermine the conversation about racism in SJM by arguing that her racism is just a little, fickle mistake. I really aggressively need to push back against this point - I don't think SJM is an idiot blonde woman who does not recognize the racism in her writing. If anything the reason why I've persisted this long talking about the problems in her story is because I was initially taken aback by just how intentional the racism is.
For example, the Illyrians. We talk about how ambiguous they are, but I think its one of the biggest examples of intentionality in the texts. The Illyrians purposely operate in this realm of uncertainty. Whether or not they are actually men of color has always been a moot point - it's about the intentionality of creating this race of men that embody these very weird, intentional traits. SJM knew that she wanted these men to be dark, violent, and warrior-like, but she also don't want them to be specifically categorized as men of color because the story simply doesn't see these men of color as desirable (see: Tarquin, Helion, Thesan - think about how they are characterized). It's also why I've argued that the story purposely doesn't associate the Illyrians as lesser fae, even though for all intent and purposes they are. The Illyrians are simultaneously the best (leathers, weapons, fighting) and the worst (culture, misogyny, hyperviolent). The story is also very intentional about how it characterizes the Illyrians concerning Rhys. Emerie just so happens to be the only one of her entire friend group that's not drop-dead gorgeous; notice how Amren is also described similarly when she is introduced initially. Everyone in the IC is gorgeous, beautiful, the most beautiful, but Amren the only explicit person of color, is described as being just plain.
The point is that these are very intentional writing choices - eerily specific, in my opinion. SJM is very intentional about the ways in which she chooses to 'represent' people of color in her series (see: Nehemia, Sorcha, Nesryn, Nuala, Cerridwen, Emerie, Fury, etc). Even think about the ways in which characters like Alis border on minstrelsy in their depiction. It's not just the representation, its the way certain traits are aligned with certain people, specifically people of color. I remember I made a post on my last blog about the ways in which SJM has her characters of color operate in this permanent semi-disposable position. There is always a way in which their white (white-passing) peers are always explicitly better (see: Hunt/Baxian, Helion/Nesta, Tarquin/Feyre, Yrene/Aelin - I have words for this one too).
In short, I don't think SJM is ignorant - not in the way people think. I actually think she is much smarter than even her own fans give her credit for and its why both her own stories and booktok/tube/gram have honestly gotten worse. I feel like oft times the pro and anti sides are just observing the same things (literally - the arguments are identical), but the difference is the pro sides don't think its a big deal partially because they believe that SJM is a whimsy white women who just can't understand she's wrong. Its why the argue that SJM is 'working to get better' even though she's written, at this point, over fifteen books.

do i have anything anything against jason as a character? no. i actually like him quite a bit! i think hes really interesting!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUT DO I THINK SOME JASON FANS ARE FUCKING DUMB AS FUCK?!?? YES BITCH WHAT THE FUCK?
im gonna go through all the shit wrong with this comment thread one by one because jesus fucking CHRIST!!!!
1. "that thing" first of all. What. she is literally just a evil-aligned poc woman. she has been raised in this environment and as a result of that this is really the only life available for her and thats the tragedy of her character!
2. "why did she get with roy" THEY ARE FUCKING SOULMATES. THEIR ENTIRE THING IS THE INHERENT LOVE THEY SHARE FOR EACH OTHER WHILE ALSO VALUING THEIR MORALS ABOVE EACH OTHER. IT IS THE COMPLEXITY OF RAISING A CHILD TOGETHER AND ALSO TRYING TO FIND MIDDLE GROUND. IT IS BEGGINT THE OTHER TO CHANGE AND KNOWING THEY WONT.
3. "MY BABY JASON" YOU CANNOT SAY THAT AFTER YOU JUST INSULTED JADE.... LITTERALLY CANNOT. the biggest fucking hypocrytical statement i have ever fucking heard!!! bro!!! jason is Nawt a good person! he just flat out isnt! he has done so much horrid shit, not just to his familt, but to roy's family too. like he is not ur sweet innocent traumatised boy, he is a fucked up grown ass man who was hurt and decided to take that pain out on others. he is no fucking different from jade except he thinks hes doing rhe right thing, at least jade knows she isnt
4. "lian baby mama is jason now" ive talked abt this before, but sexism in fandom spaces when it comes to mlm ships is so fucking common it is fucking absurd. why are women only used as babymakers for ur gay characters?? why can they not be complex characters while men can???? it is fucking absurd how common it is in dc fandom and i frankly dont know why im shocked by it! women are regressed to one of three roles: evil villain who abused male love interest, baby maker, BAMF with no complexity or character at all and it is honestly so fucking tiring and just, boring to read??? like how do you not just hate it??????
5. "unemployed" honestly. i have no words. all im saying is it is No Fucking Shock that the woc is being pushed into these awful stereotypes.
now we are up to the worst part. the final comment...
6. "how are you gonna sleep with my man" ROY LEFT JADE. NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. roy was on an undercover mission and fell in love with jade and got her pregnant! he left because he would not be able to arrest her!!! all she fucking knew was one of the first people she truly ever loved had fucking gotten her to trust him and then left her, she had to deal with that pregnancy BY HERSELF. SHE LITTERALLY SAYS SHE SPENT THE ENTIRE PREGNANCY WAITING FOR ROY TO COME BACK TO HER, AND SHE WASNT EVEN MAD SHE STILL LOVED HIM.... she didn't even realise his identity for years!
also why is it always the woman's fucking fault if she gets pregnant? it takes two to tango! roy is as equally responsible for that pregnancy as jade is!
7. "AND THEN LEAVE YOUR KID" OH MY GOD.... [EXPLODES YOU WITH MY MIND] JADE. CANNOT. LEAVE. THE LEAGUE. BUT SHE DOES NOT WANT TO RAISE A FUCKINF CHILD THERE BECAUSE SHE KNOWS WHAT ITS LIKE!! SHES BEEN THAT KID!! jade knows fucking better then to delude herself into thinking she can raise lian safely while still stuck in her life, but lian is her number one priority always!! forever!! she pushes roy and lian away because she knows she is dangerous for them and because she thinks she doesnt deserve to have them and that love in her life!!!
8. "lian should be embarrassed to have her as her mum" i actually fucking wish nothing but hell upon you. have you not fucking read. just a single thing in ur life actually? just like actually can you read??? because i have met TODDLERS with better media literacy than you. LIAN HAS ISSUES WITH HER MOTHER. THIS WAS A BIG PART OF HER STINT AS SHOES. SHE IS DEALING WITH THE COMPLEXITIES OF LOVING HER MOTHER, THE WOMAN WHO LOVES HER AND CARES FOR HER, WHILE ALSO ACKNOWLEDGING THE FACT THAT SHE ISNT A GREAT MUM.
im sorry this is so messy and has so much shouting it actually has me fuming when people r so fucking stupid, idc if you dont like a character but dont just ignore all the bits of a characyer that make them redeemable or interesting to prop up ur male blorbos????

Maomao mini analysis
Maomao in The Apothecary Diaries is such a sad character, but she doesn't act like it because, in her world, it's kind of normalized. First, her mom, an esteemed courtesan, essentially hated her because she gave birth to her. Her biological dad is gone and not in her life (we know it wasn’t by choice, but this is from her perspective). She was raised in a brothel, and while she had people there who loved her, it's still a brothel. Even after she was adopted, she still had to take precautions to make sure she wasn’t going to be kidnapped or that nothing else would happen to her because of men.
After all of this, when she was still a teenager, she was kidnapped by a couple of guys and sold to the Emperor’s palace. These events are really traumatic, but at the same time, she still has the same indifference—as if she doesn’t care that much. She wants to stay in her own lane, and with her tactical genius (stemming from both her parents), this is relatively easy to do. But I wanted to know more, and since I’m taking AP World History in school, it wasn’t really that hard to understand why.
The Apothecary Diaries takes place during the Ming-Qing dynasty (possibly Song), which is evident because of the harem system, the clothing style, and the medicine she uses. During this time, China had been taken back from the Mongols, and the government, in an effort to get rid of their traditions, reinstated many old systems like the civil service exam, improved education, and reestablished the bureaucracy. The education aspect is evident in the series because of the plans to better educate women on basic skills like reading.
The part worth highlighting, though, is that China (and basically everywhere the Mongols ruled) was safer under their rule. So when everything became scattered again, safety greatly decreased, making things like kidnappings more common. This is probably why Maomao wasn’t distraught about being kidnapped. Still, the rest of what happened before this time is traumatic enough.
The main reason I give for this is that she’s used to it—not in a Stockholm syndrome way, but in an “oh, this happens sometimes” way. Being raised in the brothels, she likely saw the worst parts of humanity in the customers and the courtesans. Being exposed to this regularly probably caused her to naturally believe that humans do bad things—but not in an overly pessimistic way, since she still had good people taking care of her. Along with this, she is just practical in everything she does. She weighs the pros and cons of her actions before she acts. She discloses information that is important to wrap up a case so she doesn’t have more drama to deal with (unlike a lot of characters, which is why I love her).
While she still has a curious personality when it comes to mysteries, at this point in season 2, she has gained the trust of literally everyone important, making her unlikely to get into trouble. (This is still China in the 11th-12th century, so she still has to be careful, but compared to before, she has a lot more freedom.)
While her personality may look plain at first, you quickly grow to love her, especially her passion for medicines and poisons. The shift in her demeanor when poisons come into play is so fun to watch. This shows that, at the end of the day, she is still a teenager. She is mature but childlike at the same time when it comes to things she’s interested in. Women in this time were supposed to be, like in almost every other time in history, subordinate to men. Maomao, being as smart as she is, knows and acknowledges this but does not let it stop her. She goes against the status quo by being a completely independent woman who doesn’t need a man.
The best part of this is that she does it without really thinking about it. Her goal is not to go against the status quo or anything like that but simply to pursue her interests in life.
Overall, I just really love Maomao and the series, and it better keep getting new seasons until it’s done, or else I’m going to tweak out. I also wrote this while procrastinating on my AP World homework to “review” for the AP exam (which is like four months away), but I hope you guys like it.

Logan shouldn't be allowed near children
I know that's a loaded title but I stand by it. There's obviously an element of Flanderisation going on but considering his stated reason for opening the Jean Grey school he is far too eager to murder children.
Tumblr media
Why TF is he leaping at children, snarling with his claws out? Check out the frothing drool.
For example, in All-New X-Men, the O5 have just been bought to the future by Hank McCoy. He stops teaching his violence through yelling class and heads out the front, leaping at the 16 year olds with his claws out. Not Hank, who brought them there but clearly traumatised children - while screaming like a lunatic of course. Even if he's not trying to kill them, what purpose does terrifying them serve? He clearly IS trying to kill them, though. I'm sure his students would love to see their headmaster butcher confused children in front of them.
Tumblr media
Unsurprisingly, he scares the fuck out of them. In part influenced by constant threats of his violence, the O5 steal the X-Jet and flee, explicitly doubting this guy is an X-Man. His thoughts about the 16 year old Jean Grey... No dude, this isn't the Jean you know. She's a child you've tried to kill. Fucking creep.
Tumblr media
This one is great. Young Scott has enough going on without this frothing beast advocating for his immediate execution as punishment for his future self's actions. Out front of the school with literally everyone watching. He's using his authority to advocate for slaughtering a child. Thankfully nobody agrees with him, but this is traumatic, terrifying, and affects Scott especially so badly he runs away.
Tumblr media
No wonder he freaks out and leaves. Obviously the headmaster of a school should drop what he's doing, not for his wellbeing but to get his bike back. How is he in charge of anyone's wellbeing or moral instruction? He demands absolute obedience while doing nothing to deserve it. It's all about how Logan feels.
Tumblr media
Here he is trying to gut a 15 year old Wiccan for having Scarlet Witch vibes, not for the or last time. I'm a little surprised he remained an Avenger after this. When you have knives for hands everyone looks like a pincushion. Except that's not it, because everyone else is a living weapon too and they mostly manage to be somewhat rational.
Tumblr media
Why are his claws out here? Is he trying to kill him? What did he expect after threatening and traumatizing him? Snarling and shouting like an animal - isn't he trying to emulate Chuck here?
Tumblr media
I can't remember why he's doing this but it's not the first time he's tried to kill Hope. Didn't work then either.
Tumblr media
A 16 year old Jean uses a telepathic projection of the Phoenix to aid Wolverine in a fight. He stupidly thinks it's real and straight up tries to kill her. The bad guys get away. Not sure how many times he has to attempt to kill the Phoenix before he understands it's not an appropriate thing to do, nor is it about him. He's more like Sabertooth than he thinks, except he thinks he's in the right and somehow never gets called out. Logan has advanced senses - how is his instinct to straight up kill her instead of investigating further?
We can do better
I think that once Logan reached a certain point of saturation he became static. The lone wolf that's the best there is at what he does, and what he does is behave so unpleasantly it's hard to believe anyone would want to be near him, let alone allow him to run a school. He says 'bub' a lot and he snikts at the drop of a hat while repeating the same interpersonal drama over and over. I see him as a frequent self insert for the worst kind of toxic masculinity yet he's more popular than ever. No judgement if you like him at all, but I think the character deserves better. Somehow he's still a misunderstood loner despite a lot of people knowing him very well - with the amount of teams and books he's in he has the most active social life in 616. It'll never happen but I'd like to see him retire, as there are several Wolverines better than he..

also yes i think you should talk about dipcifica i love the old man yaoi as much as the next guy but i also will always crave this kind of "coming of age" love story
Glad to comply! Here are my points about why Dipcifica is canon and endgame and everything:
1) Dipper and Pacifica are a walking "enemies to friends to lovers" trope. It literally started with Dipper saying to her face he doesn't like her, what's more clichè than that? When he said it, all I could hear was "We will definitely become a thing in the future".
And guess what? After a while, Dipper changed his mind: now he doesn't think Pacifica is the worst anymore. The next step is admitting she's great, asking her out and becoming a couple.
2) "Northwest Mansion Mystery" is basically a huge Dipcifica manifesto, thanks to the introduction of more tropes like:
the characters are put into nice suits
Pacifica fixes Dipper's clothes like a good wife
these two share an adventure together - which is universally something that would strengthen the bond between two people
their daring escape ends with a hug, given out of a sincere emotional reaction
the hug is followed by some cute awkwardness (especially from Pacifica's side)
Dipper and Pacifica share a heartfelt moment in which she reveals her insecurities, something we can be 99% sure she doesn't usually do. Also because... with whom can she share them? Her parents? Her supposed friends?
Dipper changes his mind about Pacifica after understanding her a bit more (which is always the interlude for the development of romantic feelings)
Pacifica finds the strength to do the right thing, only after Dipper sacrifices himself
the episode ends with them having fun together, laughing and enjoying their time. Also, it's implied they probably spent some time after the party to clean up the mess they made - so who knows? Maybe they shared some more time together and talked a lot more.
I mean... I've seen love stories start with less than that.
3) Dipper and Pacifica have another adventure together in Lost Legends. The formula is similar to Northwest Mansion Mystery: Pacifica has an issue (caused by her shitty parents), Dipper doesn't understand what her problem is, they share a heartfelt moment in which she reveals her weakness, Dipper tells all the right things, they hug, Pacifica does the right thing.
This is another way to reconfirm what the episode in the series already told us: these two have chemistry. They are meant to be. They are a walking enemies to friends to lovers trope - with a side dish of "slow burn" too. And we all love slow-burn stories <3
But this adventure shows us something else: how things have changed since Northwest Mansion Mystery and especially how Dipper's attitude has evolved towards Pacifica. In the episode, he is still very wary of her and makes it clear multiple times that he dislikes her.
Now he says this:
Tumblr media
This is basically the Dipcifica equivalent of "I once considered him the center of my life, the sun in my galaxy", only with less toxic old men yaoi and more wholesomeness
it shows how Dipper's attitude is more mature
it implies he can and will develop romantic feelings for her. I mean, look at it: "I've noticed another side of you", "I see the real one and you're more than a pretty face"... gosh, if Pacifica hadn't fallen in love before, she definitely did after that.
it also shows Dipper's growth regarding women: my boy went from making huge, complex plans to talk to them, to lying to get random girls, to saying the truth in such a smooth way. He's great with girls when he doesn't try, he makes me so proud <3
4) Now I know what you think: great points, Bea, but does this couple have Mabel's approval stamp? Billford got it with Mabel calling Bill a clingy ex and telling him to get a crush on someone else's Grunkle. Does Dipcifica have Mabel's approval?
The answer is yes:
Tumblr media
Do I have to say anything else? I think Mabel already said anything. Dipper and Pacifica are. A. Thing.
And yes, I know what you might say: they are kids! Sure they are, but that doesn't mean there can't be anything in the future. There is time for them to grow and for these feelings to develop. What we saw in the series and in Lost Legends are the crumbs, the foundation of something bigger that can evolve in the future.
And this is a great foundation because it's plausible and stable. Dipper and Pacifica's interactions never sound forced or out of character: on the contrary, they are built in a way that conciliates both personalities and justifies their changes and evolution.
If we can easily imagine a future for them, it's because their change is organic, it works in the long run - Pacifica can easily become better and better, while she works out her issue and shows the beautiful person she is. And Dipper can easily become more and more aware of what a great girl she is and start to develop deeper feelings for her. It's not impossible to imagine. It works.
And yes, this proves again how well Hirsch developed Gravity Falls and its characters, if we can easily imagine a future for them just out of a few, well-built interactions.

literally just typed this on my phone without my glasses, but here is a quick bucktommy thing featuring Tommy's cat and Buck's curls
...
They're lazing on the coach on a day they both have off when Tommy notices it.
The TV is on, some HGTV show that Buck likes to watch because he actually has an appreciation for design that Tommy can't relate to, but doesn't mind watching if it's what Buck likes to watch. He's not paying attention to it, instead he's paying attention to Buck as he rants on about an article he read about deep sea diving, and how Buck's whole person seems to grow with passion as he gets deeper into the topic.
Buck's head is rested on Tommy's lap, his body stretched out on the rest of the couch with his feet hanging off the side because the couch is too small for two men their size to fully spread out. He doesn't complain though, and Tommy feels warmed by how domestic everything feels.
It's nice having Buck in his space.
Kira is on the back of the couch in her usual spot, sleeping softly. She purrs on occasion when Buck will randomly reach out and pet her and Tommy likes how easy Buck has slotted himself into Tommy's life. It helps that Buck spoils Tommy's cat as much as he does.
As Buck is scratching behind Kira's fluffy ears, Tommy is doing the same with Buck. His fingers card through Buck's hair, occasionally applying pressure to massage his scalp. Buck has mentioned before how much he likes it, and Tommy had teased that he was just like Kira and Buck didn't deny it. He was tactile and enjoyed the simple intimacy, and Tommy really couldn't deny Buck that. Especially when Buck would look up at him with a dopey smile.
His fingers catch slightly and Tommy looks down and realizes that a lock of Buck's hair is curling around one of Tommy's fingers.
Buck stops his speech about megamouth sharks and squints up at Tommy, trying to figure out why his boyfriend had stopped petting through his hair.
"My hairstylist is taking two months off," Buck bemoans, correctly guessing why Tommy had stopped. "I dont really trust anyone else to cut my hair so you're going to be dealing with a shaggy boyfriend till she gets back."
"I like curls," Tommy blurts out afterwards. He flushes slightly, his fingers still in Buck's hair. All he can think about is what Buck's hair might look like a few weeks from now, how his hair will look curled around his strong features.
Tommy thinks about how good the soft strands will feel when he runs his fingers through it-
How good it might feel to grip-
"You don't seem sympathetic to my hair woes." Buck teases with a soft laugh, taking Tommy away from his thoughts about Buck and his hair. It's then that Tommy realizes his grip had tightened on Buck's hair ever so slightly.
"Maybe it's not the worst thing," Tommy starts carefully, as he leans down and kisses the teasing smile from Buck's face.
"Maybe not," Buck concedes and if he moans when Tommy tugs at his hair as their kisses, that stays between him and Tommy.
Meanwhile, Kira just jumps off the top of the coach and moves to a different room. She knows when her human needs space.

Hi!! If it’s okay, can I please request an Adrian Chase x soft and innocent!fem!reader where they are coworkers at Fennel Fields, him being a busboy, and she is a waitress. The two of them have feelings for each other, Adrian just trying to get the confidence to ask her out. A group of guys come in every week are super loud, rude, and also make Y/n (who is taking their order) very uncomfortable, and when Y/n turns down their advances, they say some very mean things and make her cry. Adrian is absolutely FUMING, literally having to hold himself back from going at them right then and there, instead following her to the kitchen try to calm her down (in his own Adrian way), promising to “take care of it” . She 100% thinks he means kicking them out, but the group of men get a “visit” from Vigilante… the group “disappears” without a trace “, never to bother Y/n again.
Adrian softly kissing a very relieved Y/n when the men don’t return to the restaurant, she doesn’t know about Adrian’s Vigilante side nor does she know the fate of the group of men, but Adrian takes it as a compliment nonetheless
The Protector
Tumblr media
Character: Adrian Chase x InnocentFem!Reader
Type: Fluff/Comfort, Angst
Length: 2.7k words
Summary: Request above!
Trope: Best friends to lovers, Co-workers to lovers
A/N: I have not done anything for Adrian in a while and I love him so much aaaaaaa! I bent the request ever so slightly. Also, let me know if I should make a part two of this but it’s Adrian’s POV 😉
"God that group is back." I hissed. "How do they always manage to get seated in my section?" Me and Adrian eyed them from the kitchen.
"I don't know but they never tip well either. I think all the tattoo ink got into their brains or something." Adrian glared at the noisy group. I smiled at his joke. He always lightened the mood and I was forever thankful for that.
"God it's twenty minutes until closing why do they always come in here late?" I grumbled folding my arms.
The group was dreadful and I have no idea how they haven't gotten in any section but mine yet. They've been showing up the past 3 weeks on Saturday nights and past close. Me and Adrian had plans ruined because of those guys. I've been working here for 1 year and a half (Adrian for longer) and I've never had a worse group of customers.
Usually, the worst is an old lady who asks for the manager when the food isn't exactly to her liking. Or a group of teenage boys who don't buy anything they just sit there and be as loud as possible.
Sometimes me and Adrian went to see movies together on Fridays or had plans with friends and I loved it. That's what made me look forward to the end of the week but with this lousy group of 40-year-old biker guys trashing the tables and leaving sometimes a zero-dollar tip was starting to have the opposite effect on me.
"You know I can take the table for you. I know they're pretty shitty guys." He looked at me and I shook my head softly. His green eyes dazzling in the heat lamps made me almost take back rejecting the offer. When he looked at me the way he did it made my heart flutter. They were so careful and easy.
"You take over my shifts all the time Adrian. The least I can do is deal with one unpleasant table. I can do it." I looked back at him with determination. Besides he was only a busboy, not a waiter though I'm sure he could do the job just fine.
It was true though. Every time I was sick he took over no questions asked. Sometimes he even encouraged me to call out sick when all I had was a cough. He was my best friend after all but he always went above and beyond with the way he treated me.
Sure my other co-workers were nice like Taylor treated me nicely but never as nice as Adrian. From the get-go, he was kind to me always guiding me to where things were or making small talk with me to help get me though my shifts. He was never afraid to give me a hand in anything I needed.
He looked very unsure of my decision but he didn't protest as I left to deal with said table. Though I could still feel his eyes glued to my back. I pushed open the door and
I strode over there with a sudden burst of confidence. I could do it. Then when It's all over me and Adrian can go back to his apartment and watch movies all night like usual.
As soon as I reached the table that confidence slowly started to melt away.
They were a group of 5, all big-looking, and they were like I said a biker gang. Sometimes I hate my job.
"Hello I'm Y/n I'll be your server today can I get you any drinks to start with?" My hands trembled as they gripped the sides of my apron. Whistles filled the air as the men's eyes wandered across my body. Some even leaned over to get better looks at me.
"Looking good honey!" I laughed nervously trying to be as polite as I could to them.
I felt so incredibly uncomfortable. I felt my cheeks getting hot. I was even embarrassed to be close to them. I cleared my throat trying to get them to reply to the simple task at hand.
"Waters for all of us." What I was sure the group leader spoke out. "Please, baby." He added. His group let out an array of deep chuckles. I felt sweat start to appear on my skin. I smiled and walked off in the back. As soon as my backs were to them my smile vanished off my face.
Oh god, it's barely been 5 minutes with them and I already want to leave. Once I got back there Adrian was still standing in the same spot looking at me with a pleading look.
"Don't look at me with those eyes." Those pleading begging green eyes.
"You can still take my offer you know." He pressed his lips together. "Because you look like you need that help. It's not like a bad look or anything but you look kind of helpless. In a good way." Adrian rambled. I've known him for so long I could decipher any message he gave me.
"It's fine I can handle it," I said firmly. I wasn't going to let them get the better of me. Just seeing and having Adrian here made it better.
He was a complete nerd and I loved having someone like that. I loved hearing him talk about DND and all of his hobbies. Then I got to start doing it out of work too.
We even set up a DND campaign at one point. It was a little confusing at first but playing with him made me understand. The memories of us together made me way more relaxed.
I poured those glasses of water and put them all onto a tray and held it with one hand. I pushed the door open almost spilling them in the process and walked back to the table.
"There she is!" One of them shouted. I placed all of the glasses on the table without a word trying to keep my cool.
I watched some make extremely disgusting gestures. Just 20 more minutes and you can go home. Just 20 more long excruciating minutes.
"She's a beauty isn't she fellas?" The main one asked. I swallowed thickly not excited for their replies. I did not have the energy for this today.
"Oh definitely would talk her home. You single honey?" One of them eyed me.
"Uhm yes, I am I'm just not looking for anything like that right now." I lied trying to get him to understand the message.
"Nah she's lying they're always in the market." My feet wouldn't move. I felt scared. Uncomfortable. Where's Adrian? I shouldn't have taken this table. "Come give me a chance honey!" He begged. Can't this guy take a hint?
"No, thank you I'm sorry." I tried to stay as polite as possible. "What would you guys like to-" I was instantly cut off.
"It's not like her makeup hides much." They laughed. I felt ashamed to be here.
"And she could smile more. Where's our cute smile sweetie?" I couldn't smile to save my life. I would not give them what they wanted. My lips trembled.
"Nah her smile would be ugly too we can't ask for something she doesn't have." The table erupted in laughter.
"Look at her she's a doll. She could get any guy she wanted."
“Maybe she’s a slut. No wonder she's not in the market she just sleeps around!” Barked another.
I looked up to see Adrian cleaning some dishes from a couple tables in front of them.
He was looking at me because he had clearly heard that nasty remark. His eyebrows were furrowed and he looked red with anger. He was seething and I could see his hand gripping the rag he was holding tightly.
Then the dam in my eyes broke. Tears started to brim my eyes and I stormed back into the kitchen quickly. As I left I heard them start to laugh louder. I shoved open the outside door and sat on the picnic bench we had out there.
I leaned my head in my hands and let the tears spill over my cheeks. I couldn't think about anything other than their words and how humiliated I felt. I felt like screaming at them but I just couldn't. That wasn't how I was.
Who did they think they were? Coming into our restaurant and treating me like shit for what reason? Do they have nothing better to do with their life?
I heard the door swing open and I tried to cover up my sniffling but it was no use. It slammed shut and I heard quick footsteps trot over to the bench. I already knew it was Adrian so I let him sit next to me. As soon as he put his arm around me it all came rushing back out.
"Hey hey, I'm right here." He whispered softly, I wrapped my arms around his back and in that moment he was all that mattered. I just wanted to have Adrian by my side. He awkwardly patted my back.
"Thank you." I wiped my cheeks which now had mascara smeared down them. "I'm a mess," I complained to him. He didn't say anything he just kept holding me. I knew he could struggle with comforting and with words in general sometimes. "You don't have to stay here you know. I'm already in trouble for abandoning my table i don't need you getting into it too." I frowned.
"Oh no, I'm staying." I snuggled myself into his side. "They don't deserve you. They're dicks who don't know how to treat women and that feels like a crime. They had no right to insult you like that." I nodded trying to listen to his words but I still felt shitty. "And that's like so not cool." He said and finally, a small smile spread across my face. He let out a built-up sigh of relief that I was starting to feel a bit better.
"I know. It still hurts though."
"No matter what those guys say they're so wrong." I looked up at him and he was already glancing at me. "You look so beautiful without makeup. I'm not saying you look bad with makeup on I mean like the complete opposite." I started to grin at his ranting.
"Thank you A. It means a lot." He enjoyed the small nickname. He continued to rub small circles into my back relaxing me.
"But those guys will never bother you again." He said still heated by the situation. "I'll make sure of it and because I really like you okay?" He confessed. "And seeing you hurt like that hurt me." he stared at the ground.
The confession threw me off. I always stressed about him liking me but hearing those words fall from his lips felt bewitching. I pulled away from him and looked at him eye to eye.
"Oh fuck I mean!" His cheeks grew pink. "Like I like having you as a friend not like in like I've been crushing on you since I've laid eyes on you and have been dreaming about you or anything because that would be like..." I leaned closer to him and brushed my thumb against his cheek. His face was warm and soft beneath my hand. "crazy." He whispered finishing his sentence.
"Don't lie to me right now Chase." I frowned. He sighed as he realized he'd been caught.
"Okay yeah, maybe I really like you." His eyes never once left me. "And maybe I have been dreaming about you since I first saw you."
"You better not be joking with me right now. Or I will continue to cry ."
"Okay um do not cry again please I already handled the first time poorly. But I am certainly not kidding." I moved my hand from his cheek to his hand which was much larger than mine.
"You better not be because I like you too." He blinked a few times trying to determine if I was the one joking around this time. He moved a stray piece of hair out of my face and tucked it neatly behind my ear. His eyes flickered down towards my lips and back up to my eyes. Was he really about to kiss me right now?
He swiftly closed the gap between us and captured my lips in a phenomenal kiss. Maybe he wasn't all nerdy after all because damn he knew how to kiss. Sure I have barely kissed anyone my whole life but he made it feel so right. He slowly pulled back to look at my face.
"Was that okay? If it wasn't I can totally like stop. I don't mind at all." I squeezed his hand and hugged him.
"It was perfect. Thank you." For having such a shitty night he made me realize the better. Like how the stars seemed to shine just a bit brighter than before and the moon was glowing just a little more than it just had. All because of Adrian
"How about I go deal with them and I also go grab our stuff since it's about time we clock out we have a fun relaxing night tonight?" He proposed.
"I would love nothing more."
"Good. Now you wait here!"
-
Once I got inside his apartment I immediately collapsed and melted into his couch with a loud dramatic sigh. He had probably the most comfortable apartment imaginable.
"Oh shit." I heard him hiss.
"What's wrong?"
"I was supposed to drop by the store after our shift to grab some things from the store..." He trailed off looking sheepish.
"Go ahead, Adrian. I know it will be all you talk about if you don't." He nodded before muttering a quick 'thank you' and leaving.
I had a really long day in general so as much as I wanted to I did not feel like waiting up for him. I left my work bag on the couch and wandered to his room.
His bookshelf overflowed with books and tabletop games, His bed was slightly messy from the morning, and it felt like him. I dug through his dresser to find this shirt that had a cool-looking dragon and a D20 on it. I took off my apron and work shirt and threw it on. I really hope he doesn't mind.
I threw my shoes somewhere on his floor and crumbled onto his bed. God his blankets were so soft.
-
It had been an hour before Adrian finally made his way home. He took off his mask and suit and tucked it away in the hall closet once he got home. He'd deal with all the blood later.
He walked through the hall and pushed open the door to see his best friend asleep on his bed in his shirt. He couldn't be happier to come home to this. She finally looked at ease snuggled beneath his covers.
Adrian scooted himself into his bed and joined her. He placed a small gentle kiss on her forehead and spooned her.
"They won't hurt you again." He whispered before allowing himself to drift off to sleep with her in his arms.
-
I waited afraid week after week to see that group come back but they never did. Nor the week after that or the next. I soon started to get curious about what Adrian meant when he said he'd "deal with them." Did he get the manager involved? Did he really have that strong effect on them? Maybe he even beat them up. He's too soft for that right?
Anyway, I was just happy to be with the one I've crushed on for so long. It felt good. Better than anything has ever been.
Tonight we were staying in on the couch while we waited for the popcorn to finish in the microwave of his apartment. The smell drifted through the room making me even more hungry than I was before.
"I'm glad they're gone." I looked up at him. His glasses glowed from the light of his phone.
"Me too. I hate seeing you upset." I leaned on his shoulder and my eyes wandered quickly over to his phone. Just a quick peek it wouldn't mean anything. He was texting Chris who according to him was his guy best friend. I had met him a few times for drinks after work and he was a pretty alright guy. I scanned the words and...
I finally got to use the chainsaw on those guys :)
What does that mean?

¡leclerc-s speaks! if i hadn’t mentioned this character before that’s because he was literally made up like last week. i also just love danny ramirez and i had to include him somehow. this entire series is just me putting together all my interests in one. also my love for pato, i love him so much. i have too many stories and don't have time to update them all so i just create more to ignore the bigger issue.
¡disclaimer! this is in no way making assumptions about the people involved in this story, this is all fake. it is a fanfiction please don't take any of what is said seriously. this is all for entertainment purposes and as a creative outlet for me. enjoy!

I loveeee your taylor swift based jamie fics so i was wondering if u could maybe write one based on question..? You’re amazing at writing conflict between the reader and jamie but ofc ending with fluff and i feel like question is the oerfect outline for a fic like that. Thank you!
once again, I am slowly but surely finishing asks in my inbox! my hyperfixation has been awakened ever so slightly, as well as my need for new Jamie content. enjoy!

half-moon eyes
“What if I don’t go?” you suggest, sprawled out on Keeley’s couch.
“You have to,” Rebecca calls from the kitchen. “It’s non-negotiable.”
“I don’t even work for you,” you say, “so you literally cannot make me.”
Keeley grins devilishly next to you, feet propped up on the coffee table. “You don’t work for me either, and I can make you,” she says.
You groan. “C’mon, Keels, I’m not even on staff at Richmond. Why do I have to go to this benefit? It’s going to be a bunch of rich footballer twats.”
Rebecca places two glasses on the table and sits down. “You’re a rich twat. And you’re our friend. Besides, Keeley and I already bought your dress.”
“You what?” you yelp.
Keeley’s still grinning, except it’s all smug now. “Come on, babe, it’ll be fun. Free food, free booze. Hot men. Besides, it’s for a good cause. You love those.”
You drape an arm over your eyes and say, “Fine. I’ll go. But honestly, it’s just because Ted told me he’d help me get Roy on the dance floor.”
Rebecca and Keeley become a chorus of “oh, come on,” as they whack you with Keeley’s pink fluffy pillows.
Keeley and Rebecca are the absolute worst for picking out the dress they did, because it’s perfect.
It’s sleeveless with a halter neck, decorated with giant light blue sequins all the way to the floor, with a slit high enough to add some spice, but still low enough that you won’t feel the need to tug at it every five seconds.
And while you were correct about the rich footballers, you were a little bit incorrect about the “twat” part. Mostly.
You didn’t want to go to the benefit for the same reasons Keeley and Rebecca did want you to go.
Jamie fucking Tartt.
He does no favors for your “good girl” reputation, and yet you’ve found yourself completely enamored with him. You swear to Keels and Bec that it’s just his muscles and his eyes and nothing more, but they got you to admit that you also liked his personality and that’s when you knew you were done.
The whole point of being in a three-person friend group is so that at any given time, two of you can meddle in the third one’s love life.
It’s supposed to always be you and Keeley versus Rebecca, or you and Rebecca versus Keeley.
Not Rebecca and Keeley versus you.
They had successfully gotten you to spend time with Jamie during a team party, one where they snuck you in as Keeley’s emotional-support person then promptly ditched you to flirt with footballers/coaches of their own.
You’d sat in a corner with a book stolen from a shelf, trying to make yourself invisible. Unfortunately for you, Jamie has sharp eyes and a tendency to gravitate toward introverts.
But it doesn’t matter now. You’re in Rebecca’s car headed to that dumb benefit and gripping Keeley’s hand.
“Please don’t leave me this time,” you plead.
Keeley squeezes your hand twice. “Babe, it’s a bunch of people you know. And besides, how are you supposed to get in Jamie’s pants if you’re with me the whole night?”
Rebecca snorts out a laugh as you groan.
“I’m not trying to get into Jamie’s pants,” you say. “I’m literally only here because you made me.”
“Sure,” Keeley says. “And I’m a virgin.”
The car dissolves into laughter along with your nerves, and you feel as ready as you ever will to face the night.
“Two please,” you say to the bartender. He turns around to prepare Keeley and Rebecca’s drinks and you sigh, forearms on the counter.
“Rough night?” asks a teasing voice. You turn to see Jamie slide into the space next to you looking fit in a cream suit. He tilts his head a little bit, causing one dangly earring to sparkle in the light.
“Surprised to see you without a book,” he continues. “But no worries, you could always ask Roy for one of his. He’s always got one on him and I think he’s stored one up his-”
“Here you go,” says the bartender.
“Thanks,” you reply, nodding once to Jamie in a way that signals he can leave, but instead of doing so he follows you.
“I can take those,” he says, reaching for the drinks and you automatically hand them to him.
“Thanks,” you say again.
He tilts his head to look at you. “You’re fucking quiet tonight.”
You laugh once, short and grating. “Yeah, well, this isn’t really my thing. I got suckered into it and manipulated into wearing this dress and normally I’m not this uncomfortable, but I don’t really know many people here.”
“You know me,” Jamie says softly, and then you’re at the table.
Keeley looks up in surprise as Jamie hands her a drink but the surprise doesn’t last long before it’s replaced by devilish twinkle.
“Oh, are you two going dancing?” she says.
“N-no,” you stutter, “he was just-”
“Dancing sounds so fun,” Rebecca interjects. “I might join you in a song or two.”
“But we’re not-” you try again.
Rebecca quirks an eyebrow at you. “Aren’t you?”
You turn to see Jamie with his hand out. “Come on,” he says. “It’ll be fun. Swear down.”
You reach for him before your mind can tell you not to, and let him pull you onto the dance floor.
You aren’t the only ones there, it’s actually pretty busy, but there’s only one set of hands on you.
You’re letting Jamie Tartt into your space in a way that no man before has been allowed.
He’s crowding you a little bit, dancing close enough that you’re brushing up against each other and there isn’t really anywhere to go, but you’re fairly certain that the moment you indicated you needed space, he’d be gone.
He’s so close that it’s overwhelming, with the music loud in your ears and the smell of his cologne.
Time seems to slow, music fades, and all that exists are you and Jamie. He reaches out to touch your face and you lean closer, almost at eye-level due to your heels.
He pauses for just a moment so you surge forward and kiss him, vaguely aware of Keeley and Rebecca wolf-whistling somewhere nearby.
Sam looks over and starts clapping, and pretty soon all the Greyhounds within the vicinity are hollering and cheering. You blush and press your hands to your cheeks but Jamie just grins. It’s the cocky, “I got the girl,” grin.
So yeah, sue you if he ended up in your bed.
What were you going to do, act like you were immune to the way he looked at you? The way he talked to you like you were the most interesting person in the room? The way his lips peppered firm kisses up your neck and across your clavicle after you sneaked outside for some “fresh air?”
No, immunity was never an option.
Half of you said it was just a one-night stand and the other half… well the other half told you to consider the facts.
The facts were that you knew he was into you, like full-on romantically attracted because you’d seen his text thread with Keeley.
She hadn’t shown you exactly, just left her phone unlocked on her coffee table, angled toward you while she told you she was going to make tea and it was going to take a long time.
So maybe the way he threaded your hands together while he pressed his body to yours won’t be a one-off event. Maybe you’ll get another chance to hear your name from his lips like it’s the only word he knows.
Maybe.
Except you’re awake at 2am and he’s gone; no note, no text, no nothing. You know for a fact he’s not meeting Roy, so where exactly could he have gone?
You don’t know. You just know your bed is cold and empty and there’s a strange pit in your chest. Maybe Keeley was wrong, and he didn’t like you that much. Maybe he was just looking for one night of fun.
You’d be ok with that, if only you’d known ahead of time. If only you hadn’t gotten your hopes up.
It’s a good thing you don’t work at Nelson Road because it means you can avoid Rebecca, Keeley, Jamie, and Ted for some reason, because apparently Rebecca told him everything and he’s incredibly invested in getting Jamie a “good girlfriend.”
Instead, you go to work like normal and accept your coworkers’ invitation to go out.
Kevin got you all into some incredibly popular bar because his girlfriend’s a repo baby, and you can tell from the moment you walk in that it is not your vibe. You’re just grateful you asked what to wear ahead of time.
You go to the bar and say, “Two please,” and feel someone slide into the space next to you. You turn, half expecting it to be Jamie.
It’s not, but he is attractive, objectively speaking. You down your shots and smile as dazzling as possible.
If you’re going to be here, you might as well get the most out of your night. The man next to you smiles back so you take that as an invitation to move a little closer and start flirting.
He buys you a drink and you laugh at his stupid little jokes, reaching out just a little to touch his arm.
Your coworkers are doing there own thing and you’re debating whether or not you actually want to fuck this guy when you feel someone watching you.
You pause a moment to try to get the room into focus but before you can, someone is shouldering their way in between you and whatever this guy’s name is.
“Alright mate, time to go,” Jamie says, and the guy says, “Jesus, sorry, didn’t know she had a boyfriend.”
“I don’t,” you slur but he’s already gone.
Jamie turns to you and says, “I’m getting you home,”
Your skin is tingly and warm and there’s a pleasant haze in your mind, but not so pleasant that you forget the fact that you’re still a little mad.
“Kevin,” you mumble as Jamie slips an arm under your shoulder.
“Yeah yeah, told that rich prick that I was getting you home safe. Recognized him from your website.”
A less-drunk you would have latched onto the fact that Jamie had looked at your website long enough to recognize some of the people you worked with. As it is, all you can think about is sleep. Which reminds you
“Why’d you leave?” you ask as Jamie helps you into the passenger seat.
Jamie stills for a moment before continuing to buckle you in. He gets into the car and sits in silence for a moment.
“Dunno,” he finally says. “It- it was too real for a moment. We’re not the same at all. You’re fucking… good. I’m not, not really.”
“Bullshit,” you reply but you succumb to sleep before Jamie can ask you what you mean.
You’re in Jamie’s car again less than twenty-four hours later. Why you agreed to meet him, you’re not sure. But here you are in a deserted parking lot at 8pm, parked as far away from streetlights as possible. Your knees are pulled to your chest, and you’re grateful you opted to wear your favorite over-large hoodie. It gives you the illusion of security, like you can hide.
Jamie on the other hand is wearing a fucking brown Gucci track suit.
“Isaac gave it to me,” he says with a shrug, in response to your raised eyebrow.
That’s been the extent of your conversation for a solid minute, ever since you got out of your car and into his. You’re not sure if you’re supposed to talk first, but you’re not going to. He’s the one who invited you, he’s the one who can figure out what to say.
He does not disappoint.
“I wanted to say I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have fucking left. Don’t really know what I were thinking.”
You snort out a laugh, but his worried face falls so abruptly that you immediately try to take it back.
You say, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed. It’s just that there’s no way you don’t know what you were thinking. You’re not stupid, you don’t just accidentally leave like that. And it’s not the leaving that’s the problem, it’s the fact that you didn’t tell me. Or talk to me after at all. So I’m just stuck in my own head trying to figure out what I did wrong.”
Jamie is shaking his head before you’re even halfway done. “You’re right, I do know what I was thinking. It’s like, you’re fucking brilliant, yeah? You do all this cool shit and make a difference and everyone fucking loves you. I went on a tv show to piss of me dad.”
He pauses, staring at the steering wheel. “If I woke up in the same bed as you, I’d start thinking we could be together. That I could have something- real, like. And that isn’t gonna fucking work.” He laughs, once, but it’s void of mirth.
You squint at him. “You could have at least tried.”
Jamie moves uncomfortably in his seat as he says, “That’s how I do shit, ain’t it? Fuck it up before it can fuck me up.”
You both relapse into silence, and you take stock of the way the nighttime glow sits on Jamie’s skin.
His features are softened, much like they looked in your dim bedroom light except this time, his eyebrows are knotted together.
You reach out to smooth them with your thumb before you can stop yourself.
Jamie sighs and leans into your touch and you find yourself cupping his face.
“What if we tried?” you whisper. “I bet we could do it. I’m really stubborn.”
He smiles a little at that, all wistful. “I’d do anything for you,” he responds, “Just don’t worry ‘bout it when it’s time for you to leave, yeah?”
What is it that Roy says, that you deserve someone who makes you feel like you’ve been struck by lightning?
You feel more like it’s a meteor.
It looks pretty as it shoots across the sky, almost like it’s a star, but then it lands on you and squishes you flat. There’s no electrifying current, just the inescapable, crushing weight of a giant rock that you thought you could wish on.
Two months. You made it two months with Jamie, and it felt like you were dancing on clouds right up to the moment you tripped.
It’s always something with him. Everything’s for PR, for an angle, for the game. Your relationship… it’s smothering.
It’s not smothering in the way you like, because let’s be real; you would be attached at his hip if you could.
But he seems to think that he can buy his way into your heart, especially during the weeks he has extra training, or an away game, or anything that cuts into your time together.
“It’s too much,” you say through tears one afternoon. “I don’t even know what to do with half of it. You’re spending so much money on me and I’m not ungrateful, but Jamie. I don’t want things. I don’t care that you’re busy, I want you and I don’t want to be in a relationship with someone who thinks they can purchase my affection.
Jamie just looks at you, nods once, and walks away. No fight, no nothing.
You’re struck by two conflicting memories at once.
The first being his outstretched hand at the benefit, ready to pull you out of your comfort zone.
The second, his soft voice saying, “don’t worry ‘bout it when it’s time to leave.”
As you watch his retreating figure, you fight the urge to run after him. He’s the one with the self-sabotaging tendencies. You should have realized you were going to end up here sooner or later.
If he doesn’t even think you’re worth fighting for, then what’s the point?
You text Keeley and Rebecca, then get to your bed as fast as you possibly can.
Two months is a lot longer than most people think it is. It’s over sixty days of waking up with someone. Of texting them. Of holding them, eating meals with them, of kissing them goodnight.
It only takes two weeks for a habit to develop and now your bed feels far too large and empty.
Keeley’s snoring in what should be Jamie’s spot, unceremoniously sprawled out in some awful satin zebra-print pajamas. It’s better than being alone, but you’d rather have Jamie snoring next to you in some awful satin leopard-print boxers.
“Do you believe in soulmates?” you ask Rebecca. You’re laying on her floor while she eats a biscuit.
She asks, “Platonic or romantic?” so you shoot her a questioning glance. “I’m not sure about romantic soulmates, but after seeing Ted and Beard, I abso-fucking-loutely believe in platonic soulmates,” she clarifies.
“Cool,” you say, “smashing, brill, fucking superb.”
“What makes you think Jamie was your soulmate?” she asks. That makes you sit up.
“I didn’t say shit about Jamie,” you say.
Rebecca rolls her eyes. “Darling, it was very heavily implied. And anyway, who else would you be talking about? The last time you had a boyfriend was back when this club was still complete shit. So. Why do you think Jamie was your soulmate?”
“I don’t,” you respond, “I just- I don’t know, we clicked. It was weird. You know we talked before the benefit? We were at this party and… he talked to me. I was hiding because Keeley fucking left me by myself so I stole a book and was reading in the corner, and he sat next to me and started asking me questions. And-” you stop yourself.
“And,” Rebecca prompts.
“And I wish he would have fought a little more. For as great as he said I was, he just walked away like it was nothing. It feels like shit.”
Rebecca stands up only to sit down on the floor next to you. She tells you, “Men are shit with feelings. They never know what they really want until they don’t have it.”
You don’t take precautions to sneak out of Rebecca’s office because everyone has left by the time you go, so you walk down the stairs arm in arm as you giggle about something stupid.
“Oh shit, I left my phone on my desk,” she says. “Wait here while I get it?”
You grin and lean against the wall, staring down a decal of Bumbercatch.
You can feel someone watching you and you assume it’s just Declan’s cutout until something moves in your peripheral vision.
“Jesus Christ!” you exclaim. “Jamie?”
“I weren’t trying to scare you,” he says apologetically. “Didn’t know anyone was still here. I was doing a cool down on the treadmill and lost track of time.”
“…Cool,” you reply. You’re not sure what you’re supposed to say in situations like this.
Jamie passes his water bottle from one hand to the other as you shift your weight. Neither one of you are making an effort to say anything, or an effort to leave.
“For Christ’s sake,” comes Rebecca’s voice a few steps above you. “Can you two please just tell each other how you’re fucking feeling? My god Jamie, use your big boy words for fucking once.”
Jamie looks offended for a moment but apparently Rebecca’s words ring a little bit true because he switches from offended to wistful. Again.
“I can’t with that face,” you tell him. “You look like a kicked puppy, and it’s your fault at least eighty percent of the time.”
“I’m leaving,” Rebecca says.
“Wait, but you drove me here,” you say to her back.
She calls, “Cheers,” with no indication that she’s listening to you.
“I can take you home,” Jamie offers.
You tilt your head at him and say, “Yeah, and I can catch a taxi. Or walk. Or anything, really.”
“I’m driving you,” he says. “Just gotta grab my bag.”
“Oh now he fights,” you mutter.
Jamie stills for a moment before heading into the locker room. He’s back so fast you wonder if he was worried about you sneaking out without him.
You’re sitting in the passenger seat, reliving all the times you’ve been here before. You resist the urge to curl up.
It’s a quiet ride over to your house and you take advantage of the fact that Jamie is actively not looking at you. You allow yourself to examine his profile out of the corner of your eye. You miss touching his face, holding his hand. Does he feel the same? Most likely not.
He pulls into your driveway and as you reach for the handle he says, “Oi.”
You still.
“I’m sorry,” he says. “I really am.”
You explode. “For fucking what, Jamie? What the fuck do you think you’re sorry for? How many times are we going to do this? If one of us were going to have relationship insecurity, I would’ve assumed it’d be me. Hell, everyone thinks that I’m the insecure one. But it’s you! I don’t fucking get it, you ruin every good thing you have because you have stupid fucking thoughts and you don’t fight for what you fucking want, for fuck’s sake.”
“I want you,” he says.
“Coulda fooled me,” you shoot back.
“I do and I know I was being a twat. Went to fucking… therapy. I’m getting better, swear down.”
“Uh huh,” you say. “Bullshit.”
“That’s a fuck-ton of swear words for you,” he comments. “Been taking notes from Roy?” “Piss off,” you reply.
“That’s a yes.”
“Fine. Here’s a nice, clean sentence for you. What do you want?”
“I miss you,” he says without hesitation.
Right.
“And..?” you say.
“And I want you back.”
“Maybe,” you reply. “Possibly. I’ll put you on probation. Cook me dinner and then we’ll talk about it.”
Jamie turns off his car. “Does that mean I can come in?”
You sigh, but it’s with a smile on your face. “Against my better judgement yes, it does mean you can come in. But no funny business. At least not tonight.”
Jamie grins just a tiny bit and says, “Does cuddling count as funny business? I miss holding you?”
“We’ll see how good dinner is.” You open the car door and Jamie follows you close on your heels into your house. You think maybe this time, you’ll both get it right.

So... Azriel saving Elain is just because he *checks notes* has a savior complex...?
But Azriel saving Gwyn from SA is NOT his savior complex because of *checks notes*....sparky sparky glow glow?
Like I hate to break it to y'all, but Azriel was quite literally doing his job when he went to Sangravah to hunt after the men who were trying to steal the Cauldron leg.
Tumblr media
He didn't "go there because he sensed his mate was in danger". He went there on an order to investigate the raid on the temple in Sangravah.
That is where he found Gwyn, and saved her. As he should have. As any good person would've. Then, he handed her off to Mor, and chased after the men from Hybern.
Tumblr media
Males are protective over their mates. Rhys couldn't stand to see how Feyre was unhappy and Cassian couldn't handle Nesta being taken for the BR. Even Lucien had an urge to help Elain when she was spat out of the Cauldron.
You can't stay away from your mate, especially if they're in grave danger. That much is EVIDENT.
And yet, Azriel has known Gwyn for years now. He encountered her at a traumatic moment, and he saved her - then he left.
He had a whole conversation with Gwyn in the BC (from his POV!) and doesn't mention anything about talking to her or checking up on her after one of the worst days of her life. All he recalls is "the bloody memory of her was so at odds with the Gwyn that stood before him now".
Does that sound like someone who checked up on her in the past 2 years?
Then, even after the BC and the *so called mate behavior of sparky sparky glow glow* , Gwyn gets taken for the BR. Again, Azriel has an opportunity to descend into fae male protective insects and exhibit the same behavior as Cassian's freak out about Nesta being taken.
But he doesn't.
He doesn't demand to go after Gwyn. He doesn't respect Illyria anyways, and thinks the entire culture is backwards. Why would he respect the rules of the BR? Gwyn gets taken into a life-threatening situation (AGAIN) and all he says is "we trained them well".
What kind of mate behavior is that?
Genuinely, how could that be Gwyn's mate? He's not out here going out of his mind and saying "I'm getting her back".
Well, not over Gwyn, that is.
He does exhibit those mate characteristics - but around Elain.
The exact same situation Gwynriels romanticize and distort and have headcanons around ... has already been written. With Azriel. And with Elain.
Tumblr media
face the facts. Canon is canon, babes. And that's not going to change just because you twist and distort the interpretations in your head.

Reading TGCF: Chapter Four
Tumblr media
For those who don't know, I am reading TGCF for the first time and sharing my thoughts!
If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.
Also- if you want to follow along, I am aiming to post updates daily. You can find all the posts in the tag Bloopitynoot reads TGCF. You can also check out the intro post for context on my read BUT if you followed along with my SVSSS read, the rules and vibe are the same.
Tumblr media
I have been obsessed with the masala chai kit my partner got me for Christmas, so I'm back with the chai today; it's just so creamy and spicy, I love it.
I will give a heads up now that I am not sure if I will have chapters this weekend. My partner and I are going up to visit her family and I don't think I'll have the time to read and post. So lots of advanced warning there will be a small gap in posts later this week!
Let's go chapter 4!
Tumblr media
These titles are getting to me; so long. I mean, they are very accurate, but so wordy LOL.
This is so funny. Xiao-Ying: I'm a real person! I put you (Xie Lian) in drag! Everyone else: what an abnormal man with queer hobbies. p104
This is so annoying. they literally told these fools explicitly NOT to do one thing. I do hope Xiao-Pengtou dies because OMG, the audacity of this man. p105
and now this guy wants to profit off of the bride's deaths. So shameful! p107
barf, barf, barf. Now they are ranking the DEAD women's looks and daring each other to assault to corpses. Ew. Why are cis straight men. p108
Oh. I've made it to the forest of hanging corpses. Love that. p110
I love how chill they are seeing the corpse forest. like, "ah, that's the Green Ghost, he likes corpse forests. He's just about a supreme. Better leave him be." p110
The ANTICIPATION! The fact that Fu Yao is scared of the butterflies. WHAT ARE YOU?!?!??! p112.
Tumblr media
My heart for this bandaged boy! I don't know who he is, but he feels like a bullied little guy and I just want to hug him and make him soup. p114
Good. They finally shut Xiao-Pengtou up. p115
This is like a fuck-ton of powerful entities on this mountain. We've got a wrath level, near supreme, and then butterfly boy who isn't even on the level system he's so powerful. What karma does town owe, like damn! p117
and the Ghost Groom was there the whole time! Sneaky bride #18 p118
What a sweet boy; Xie Lian apologizing to the corpse bride's before having them fight each other p120
Xiao-Ying is too nice! I would have just left Xiao-Pengtou where he was. fuck that guy. p121
Xia-Lian really showing up to work with his auto-pilot customer service voice, "Thank you, thank you. Please support my act with money if you have the means, or with applause if you haven't...what?!" p122
ofc the spiritual energy runs out when you are about to get the most important bit of information. p124

This was a banger of a chapter. I am so sad about Xiao-Ying though, I really liked her headstrong character.
Also in this chapter; if I had taken a shot for every time I had murder thoughts about XIao-Pengtou I would have surely been deceased. Glad that death happened though. Big oof on the most unlikeable character since Jin Guangshit.

Price had been feeling unbelievably antsy all morning.
Laswell hadn’t spoken a word to him as they made their way to his office for a quick meeting. She usually had some sort of small talk to keep them busy as they walked side by side down the corridors and through the building, but today she didn’t care to hold such niceties with him. Instead, she walked a few feet ahead of him, forcing the larger man to trail behind her like a lost puppy.
They had passed by Simon and Johnny in the hall not too long ago. The two men had immediately steered clear and moved out of Laswell’s way while shooting Price a sympathetic look. They could tell that Laswell was on a mean one and it would do them some good to stay out of her way. They were sure her stoic rampage was justified, but they feared for their Captain nonetheless.
They entered his office and as they took their seats, Laswell set a tattered looking manila folder on the edge of the desk closest to her. Price’s eyes flicked down to the folder for a moment before they found their way back up to her. She was still staring blankly at the folder, but the twitch of her lips told him that she was trying to find the words she wished to speak.
She found them eventually.
“Before I give you access to her entire, unredacted file, I need to know what happened when you visited her on your own,” she said, her tone straight and cool as she finally looked up to meet his gaze.
“Nothing happened, Kate. I just went over for a quick chat. That’s all,” he said, shaking his head.
“Details, John. Details are going to be very important right now,” she said, narrowing her eyes into a near glare.
“You know, I’m a bit confused as to why you’re upset about me going over to have a chat with Frost. You’re the one who wanted her on the job in the first place. I was just making sure it happened,” he said in an exasperated tone.
Laswell scoffed out a harsh laugh of disbelief and sat up in her seat a bit.
That’s when John knew he was in trouble.
“Frost has been one of my closest friends for a long time, John. Her and I have been there for each other through the best and the worst times of our lives. So forgive me for being a little high-strung when she tells me that she doesn’t want anything to do with the Makarov case and then a few days later phones me in the middle of the night—which she never does because she quite literally keeps her landline disconnected when she feels that it’s been ringing too much—to tell me that she changed her mind and that she’s in for the job after having some sort of surprise visit from you,” she snapped, her voice finally holding the sternness that matched the fierce look in her eyes. “Frost rarely acts out of character. And when she does, things usually go to shit real quick. So I need you to give me the details of your visit so I know that all of this isn’t going to go to shit the second she gets here, please and thank you.”
Details.
Details were going to be important.
He understood that this time around.
“I visited Frost about midday. Knocked on her door with a nice bottle of whiskey in hand. She invited me in to have lunch with her. We ate. We talked. She introduced me to her dog Riley. We had some tea. And then we went our separate ways,” he explained, going down the timeline in his own head as one of his knees started to bounce beneath his desk.
He could still see so vividly the image of Frost sitting comfortably in her arm chair with her legs tucked in front of her with a bowl of stew in her hands. The hardened look on her face slowly melted away as they traversed through their conversation. Blunt answers and rolling eyes filled his head.
“You brought a bottle of whiskey with you when you saw her?” she asked, tilting her head to the side. He hummed in response, curtly nodding his head. Kate could feel her heart beating in her chest, practically thrashing against her ribs. It was such a rare thing for her to feel that. “Did she have any?”
“No,” he answered, shaking his head. The bottle of whiskey he had brought along had sat on the counter in the kitchen his entire visit. She hadn’t even cared to pick it up or read the label, which had surprised him. He had assumed that a woman that had been in the business of war for so long would have developed a taste for the finer alcohols of life. “Didn’t even look at the bottle.”
“Good,” she said as she sat back in her seat.
There was a certain type of trouble in her eyes that bothered him.
“Why do you ask?” he wondered aloud.
Kate sat quietly for a few moments, trying to figure out how much she was going to tell him. Well, if she didn’t tell him now, then he’d found out soon enough by looking through the file that sat between them.
“Frost has been sober for thirteen years,” she said, meeting his gaze again. Price froze in his seat, the nervous knee bouncing he’d been enacting quickly coming to a halt. “She had a bit of a problem with alcohol in her late 20s, but she managed to straighten herself out with some help.”
Thirteen years of sobriety.
And he brought a fucking bottle to her as a gift.
“Even through everything that happened with Makarov and losing her task force?” he asked.
“Stone cold. My wife and I thought that she might fall off the wagon after losing everything, but she spent most of her recovery with us and she never had a drop,” she said, shaking her head.
John felt embarrassed.
He had brought a bottle of whiskey to a woman that had been sober for thirteen years.
He felt his cheeks fall red at the thought of the bottle that stood alone on the counter in her kitchen. He didn’t take the bottle back with him when he left. He wondered what she had done with it. Was it still sitting on her kitchen counter? Or had that contents been emptied one way or another?
“So all you did was share a meal and talk?” she asked, snapping him out of his guilty daze.
He hummed in acknowledgement.
Kate didn’t mind the fact that Frost was coming out of retirement to decimate Makarov with a task force that she had come to love and trust so much.
She wasn’t worried about Frost getting back in the game; she knew that she could handle herself without a doubt.
But she was worried about the fact that the Captain sitting in front of her seemed to have taken a liking to the Lieutenant Colonel.
John Price had always been a cordial and kind man, but she knew that he had a side that was strictly business. He rarely mixed business and pleasure and whatever he was doing now was starting to toe the line between the two. The John Price she knew would have considered Frost to be a dead end, an outlet unworthy of his task force having alongside them. He would’ve experienced his first interaction with Frost and considered it a done deal that she wasn’t going to be tagging along for the ride.
But he didn’t.
Instead, he went out of his way to get her to come back.
He went out of his way to see her.
Out of his way to talk to her.
John Price was a good man, Kate knew that.
But she also knew Frost.
And she knew that the combination of the two could be a catalytic disaster.
She could only hope for the best.
“Well, whatever you said worked. She called to tell me that she changed her mind and that she wanted to put a bullet in the Russian bastard’s head. Her words, not mine.”
Kate finally slid the file over to him. She kept her hand on it for a moment before slowly drawing it away. Price had to hold himself back from snatching the file to dive into the details.
“Since she is officially a part of your team now, here's her file. I’ll email you a few of her mission reports so you can get a taste of how she works,” she said, standing from her seat. He was surprised that she wasn’t going to stay with him to walk him through Frost’s file. She walked toward his office door but stopped before she could leave. She glanced back at him over her shoulder. “Frost’s got a hard but broken soul, John. Be gentle with her. For me.”
And with that, she opened the door and left.
And he was left in the thick silence of his office, the tattered manila folder delicately taunting him.

Boysenberry pie.
That’s what Laswell had said was Frost’s favorite.
It was his sore attempt to make up for bringing a bottle of liquor to her sober abode.
The pure white snow crunched under his feet as he walked up to her cabin. Everything was still save for the smoke billowing from the tall brick chimney on the side of the house.
He loved the way her cabin looked.
Set in the middle of the forest, small, quaint, and comfortable.
It was akin to something he wished to have in the future when he was rid of the military life. That is, if he was ever rid of the military life. He always had a feeling that he would die in the military, but sights like this made him hope that his intuition was off.
It rarely ever was, though.
A loud bark caught his attention and his head whipped to the side in time to see Riley barreling toward him. He held the boysenberry pie in one hand and crouched down to pet the large german shepherd with his free hand. Riley whipped around him, trying to meet John’s hand for a good pet as he moved about. He rolled over in the snow, letting the tall man rub his belly as he panted happily.
“That’s a good boy,” John said, softly smiling at how happy the beast in front of him looked. He wondered how simple life would be if he was just a dog with a bone… and if he had a gorgeous owner who was now standing in her front doorway, arms crossed and leaning against the doorframe as she watched the pair in the snow. Price looked up at her properly, his smile remaining. She was donned in a comfortable looking jumper that was loose on her frame and a pair of nice black jeans. The white jumper fell loose on her frame, exposing part of her collarbone and neck.
She looked good.
Too good.
“Afternoon, John,” she greeted in a polite tone.
She liked the sight of him and Riley together. John was playful and rough with Riley, but in the way that the energetic animal needed. He didn’t get much action out there. She had a feeling that he didn’t count chasing rabbits and squirrels through the brush. Other than that, nothing truly amounted to what Riley had experienced out on the field with Frost.
Maybe that’s why the beast liked John so much.
Reminded him of what he once knew to be normal.
Perhaps the slow life wasn’t for him… just like it wasn’t really for Frost.
“Afternoon,” John greeted back, giving Riley a few rough but loving pats before standing to his full height. The riled up dog whipped back up to his feet, ran circles around John a few times, and then dashed over to his owner. She gave him a loving rub to the head before he hopped off the porch and ran into the forest, snow falling off of his fur with every step.
“You know, you have oddly good timing,” she said, a slight smile pulling at her lips, but she doesn’t let it show completely. “I just got done cooking. Care for a plate of steak and potatoes?”
John practically drooled.
The thought of having another home cooked meal sounded amazing, especially if it was going to be as good as the stew she had made last time. He had trouble going back to eating the food from the mess after the meal he had shared with her.
“Only if you’re offering,” he said, repeating what he had said the first time she had ever invited him in for a meal. She hummed contently and gestured for him to come inside. He made his way up the porch steps, stepped inside, and slid his shoes off before lining them up neatly by the door just the same as last time. He walked into the kitchen and the smell of freshly seared red meat filled his system. After surviving on nothing but MREs and whatever he could get in the mess, the smell of a perfectly seared steak made him melt. “Christ, it smells amazing in here.”
Frost let out a light laugh, barely a breath of humor.
John set the boysenberry pie on the counter as she plated the food for them. His eyes searched the kitchen, trying to find the bottle that he had brought around last time. He found it eventually, spotting the seal on the cork completely untouched and the full bottle sitting in the corner against the wall. Something in his heart eased and he let out a quiet sigh.
It wasn’t that he doubted her sobriety in any way, but he would have felt guilty if he had been the one to give her the means to fall off the wagon.
“You can have a glass if you’d like. I’d hate for it to go to waste in my kitchen,” she said, nodding at the bottle as she turned around with two plates in her hands. She handed one over to him as he looked away from the bottle and back to her.
“Thank you,” he said, taking the plate from her. She opened up a cupboard to grab a short glass, but he stopped her. “It’s alright. This’ll do just fine for me.”
She nodded and tipped the glass back into the cupboard and shut it. She stepped into the living room, completely ignoring the dining table that she seemed to rarely use. John followed and they took their usual seats in the dark green armchairs across from each other, the warm fireplace set between them.
The plate that Frost had given him was loaded with a gorgeously seared steak sliced into perfect strips of medium-rare meat and over roasted potatoes with a hint of thyme and pepper lacing the steam that wisped off of them. Price sunk into his seat, wondering if he’d ever get to live a life of coming home and experiencing a meal like this every night.
He hoped that one day he would.
They both dug in.
A few bites in, John finally spoke.
“You changed your mind,” he said, stating the obvious.
“I did,” she said, nodding her head once before taking another bite.
“Why?”
“Why do you think?” she asked.
“Doesn’t matter what I think. It matters why you did,” he said, throwing her own words back at her. She let out a huff of a laugh at that, clearly remembering that she had used the same tactic on him last time he was there.
“Because I want that Russian piece of shit six feet under with a bullet in his brain,” she said bluntly, not looking up at him. “Multiple bullets, actually.”
“Understood,” he said, nodding his head.
After John had left last time, Frost had stared at the photo of her old task force for hours before finally calling Laswell to tell her that she had changed her mind and that she was in. Memories of each member had played out in her head along with the memories of each of their deaths like a fever dream. And Makarov’s devious smile had overtaken the memories of the loved ones as she had stared off into the abyss of despair.
The bottle in her kitchen had been tempting, but she didn’t pursue it as her old self would.
“Have you read my file yet?” she asked, glancing up at him. “The one that Laswell usually keeps stashed away in her desk.”
She knew that Laswell had two copies of her file.
One that was heavily redacted that almost anyone in the CIA and military could access. And then there was one that Laswell kept for herself and the higher ups that actually mattered. The latter had every detail of every mission that Frost had ever been a part of. Every gruesome detail and achievement Frost had managed to acquire over the years.
It was rare for it to ever make an appearance in anyone’s hands, but she knew that joining the task force for this mission meant that John would have access to it. He was going to have to learn who he was having to join his team for something so important.
She had just been counting down the minutes until he mentioned what he had read.
“I did read it.”
“So?”
John was surprised.
He didn’t think she’d care about what he thought of what he had read.
“I think you’re bloody brilliant,” he said, adding her name at the end of his statement.
Hearing her name on his lips made her feel warm.
She had isolated herself out in the wild for so long that she rarely ever heard her own name nowadays. The only time she ever really heard it was when Laswell and her missus occasionally came around or when the florist in town greeted her when she’d go around to pick up a bouquet to fill the lonely cabin she called home. The florist was the only one in town that she allowed to know her name. She avoided everyone else it seemed. The old man just had a certain charm to him that she couldn’t deny to be kind to.
“Ridiculously brilliant, actually,” John continued.
“You clearly haven’t read the entire file then.”
“I have. Every page, every mission,” he reaffirmed. “Made sure I got everything I could from Laswell.”
He had stayed up all night, going through everything Laswell had given him access to. In reality, he could have just read her personal file and left it at that. Her personal file was everything he really needed to know, but there was something so alluring about the woman in front of him that he couldn’t help but read everything he could on her.
Every mission report, finally unredacted and missing the black lines that had once barred him from seeing the truth the first time around.
The things that this woman had accomplished had astonished him.
Frost didn’t know what to say.
“Laswell was right. I think you’ll be a perfect fit for the 141,” he continued.
“Whatever you say, Captain,” she muttered, taking another bite of steak and potatoes.
A scratch at the back door echoed throughout the house and Frost rocked up to her feet, placing her plate on the coffee table.
“Riley,” she explained to him shortly as she walked into the kitchen.
She opened the back door and Riley dashed inside, heading straight to the living room. The energetic dog was sitting patiently next to Price, tail wagging and slapping against the hardwood floor. Frost smiled softly and grabbed a piece of meat from her plate, tossing it into the air just for him to prop up and catch it in his mouth. He gnaws at the piece, trotting off to her bedroom to enjoy it in peace. Price watched the two fondly, feeling the connection they had with each other.
“Want anything to drink?” she asked.
“Tea, if you don’t mind me making it again,” he said, nodding his head.
She wondered if he was anal about how his tea was made or if he was simply trying to do something nice.
“Feel free,” she said, grabbing her plate and heading into the kitchen. Price followed, plate in hand. Frost continued to eat as John put the kettle on.
“I brought a boysenberry pie this time around,” he said, turning around to lean against the counter. Price looked over at it for a moment, waiting for her to look at it as well.
“Did Laswell tell you that boysenberry’s my favorite or was that in my file too?” she wondered aloud. He smiled coyly and nodded. “Did she tell you about the drinking problem?”
His smile softened and almost turned down, but he didn’t let it fall away completely. His eyes flicked to the bottle set in the corner for a mere moment.
“She did,” he said, letting out a little sigh. “I’m sorry for bringing the bottle last time I was here.”
“Don’t be. You couldn’t have known,” she said, shaking her head. “Plus, I’ve been doing this shit for thirteen years. I’m not going to say that it’s easy work, but I’m doing well enough to not be tempted by a still-corked bottle.”
A few quiet beats passed.
“Though, I would take the bottle back with you when you leave today,” she said, looking over at it before looking back at him. Just as she admitted, she had been doing it for a while, but it was still hard some days.
“Noted,” he said, nodding. “Want a slice of pie?”
“I’d love one,” she said, a small soft smile gracing her face. It was the closest thing to a genuine smile that Price had seen from her and it practically made his heart jump out of his chest. John pushed off the counter and put his hand on one of the cupboard handles.
“This one, right?” he asked, looking back at her. She hummed in confirmation.
He’d only been to her home twice and he already knew his way around it. He had watched her pull plates and bowls and serve them food for the past two visits and he was starting to get a lay of the land. She silently loved it.
He searched the drawers for a knife and Frost let him, not giving him a hint as to where the knives may be. He eventually found them and pulled a large kitchen knife out. Breaking open the pie, John cut a slice for each of them, setting them carefully on the plates. He turned and placed a plate in front of her, searching the drawers one more time for two forks.
“Thank you,” she said, taking the fork he had offered her. “For visiting and for the pie.”
“Any time,” he said, smiling at her.
They both dug into the pie and Price could tell that she was enjoying it more than she was letting on.
It was nice.
Seeing her like this.
He hadn’t known her for long, but from what he had experienced and from what he had read, moments like this were rare with her. He was starting to understand why Laswell liked her all so much.
He wondered how it would be once she started to be fully comfortable with him.
“Tell me about your task force,” she said, leaning her elbows on the counter while she messed with the pie with the sharp prongs of her fork. She had already gotten halfway through her slice.
John had brought a damn good pie.
“What do you want to know?” he asked.
“How many and who?”
“Well, there’s four of us. Sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Sergeant John “Soap” MacTavish, Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley, and me,” he said, listing off the members of the small team. Task Force 141 was smaller than her old task force. “And now you.”
“Do you trust them?”
“With my life.”
