13 - Favourite case we see the detectives do?

I think my favorite Dead Boy Detectives case is probably The Case of the Two Dead Dragons. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the agency — particularly Edwin — interact with the modern living world, and the small mistranslations that came with that (like when Edwin didn't know what 'molly' was)

22. Personal favourite female character? Why?

This is so hard to pick omg 😭 It's tied between Esther, Niko, and Crystal, but if I absolutely had to pick just one, I think I'd go with Esther. I was hesitant to like her the first time I watched the show because, at the end of the day, she was a villain, and she did do a lot of villainous shit, but she was just so funny it was impossible to truly hate her. Every scene she was in had me cracking up, and it's insanely impressive to me that so many of her lines were improvised. Esther was honestly so funny and iconic that she could be doing the most heinous, villainous thing, and I'd still want to cheer for her

23. Song that reminds you of the show

Plainsong by The Cure is honestly so Payneland coded, it hurts, — and same for I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie. Lonely Eyes by The Front Bottoms also never fails to remind me of DBDA. I have so so so many songs that remind me of the show, and listing them all would probably take forever 😭

It's actually staggering how much that movie did not need to exist. Gonna bullet point some thoughts

My sarcastic lol @ the lightning fast sisters cameo at the end where they're all played by completely different people. the quick flash of Cheedo's eyes bc they managed to get Courtney Eaton back for three seconds didn't appease me

I guess it technically passes the bechdel test bc right at the start Furiosa says "be still" to Valkyrie but iirc that's the only pass moment. I know not passing the bechdel test doesn't mean the movie is automatically bad I just think it's interesting considering it's following Fury Road

"she talks to her mother" I don't think they ever said her mum's name out loud

You know how mad max fury road could have a silent version w no dialogue + isolated soundtrack and it worked because you could tell what's going on anyway? This movie has the opposite problem. Way too much talking. They over-explain everything

The best bit was the prolonged torture scene at the end where Hemsworth explains Furiosa's entire character arc and the message of the movie out loud to her and also us

Actually threw MY arms up in disgust when she went back for that boy she supposedly had a romance with despite the film never bothering to actually show/explain that. I'm calling it a romance because the actors did. I guess it was supposed to be a Capable/Nux parallel but it didn't work for me and not just because I'm a dyke and a hater OK, if you're gonna do a ROMANCE, DO A ROMANCE. don't leave me sitting there wondering why Furiosa is risking it all for some guy she's had ONE conversation with, especially after he offers to get her away from the Citadel and back to where she came from, WHICH IS HER ENTIRE MOTIVE EVER SINCE SHE WAS TAKEN

Them trying to emulate Max and Furiosa's instinctive, perfect we have to trust each other moment by having Jack and Furiosa... look at each other Meaningfully fifty times while they were supposed to be driving cars? Don't make me laugh! You will never be them!!

So many things happened because they needed to happen (plot demanded it) and didn't make any sense in context. My favourite was when Furiosa rode her motorcycle up a dune to get away after cutting off her arm and the biker gang couldn't follow her up there for some reason

Considering it's Furiosa's movie it sure isn't about her + she doesn't speak at all for almost the first half

You know how The People Eater rubbed his nipple that one time and it was delightfully weird and gross and got a good reaction? Well in this movie he's constantly rubbing it, the whole time. Really lessens the impact of the nipple rub

One of the coolest parts of fury road was that a gang of bikers ended up being hardcore wasteland grannies w guns and loose morals in response to people fucking around for far too long without finding out. Did this movie have anything like that for me? Take a wild guess for a second time

The car fight scenes weren't even that great. Couldn't remember hearing any good music under them (brother in arms truly lightning in a bottle) and they went on for too long which feels wild to say about suped up car battles in the australian wasteland: 2 but oh well. This is how I feel. Fury Road was so good at carefully measuring out high octane action and then downtime and careful, quiet character introspection and this movie had no idea what it was doing either way

Honestly I don't hate it but I feel like it was a waste of time and it doesn't need to exist at all. A real nothing experience. Am I going to see this movie ten times in cinemas? No I am not even going to see it twice in cinemas

the moment he saw you walk in today, he literally shoved his other co-workers aside with a hasty "sorry, minho!" and took his place behind the register, ready to greet you by the time you walked up to it.

"welcome home, cheater," he uttered with the most hollow, shit-eating smile he could muster, gaze fixed on you as he watched your face contort into an expression of shock. he quickly blurted the next sentence out before you could respond: "didn't see you in the last three days. don't tell me you went to another café?" he was basically pouting at this point; you worked pretty nearby felix's café, so it was always part of your routine to stop by here to grab your usual order of warm vanilla latte. but for reasons unbeknownst to felix, who has developed the slightest infatuation with yours truly but refuses to admit it, you stopped showing up earlier this week. until today, that is.

your jaw literally dropped, as you noticed felix's fellow baristas whispering to each other and staring from behind the counter in your peripheral vision. you cleared your throat before responding carefully. "why, did you miss me?" you smirked, leaning against the counter.

"yes," the one named minho chipped in from the back before getting elbowed in the chest to silence by someone else you recognised to be chan, the manager.

felix gulped. was he that obvious? "n-no. just feeling betrayed, is all," he claimed, folding his arms against his aproned chest. "you were my favourite regular, you know."

"were? just because i didn't show up for three days?" you chuckled, as you watched felix's cheeks redden. the barista's eyes widened in shock at his own words, quickly waving his hands in front of him as he attemped to correct himself. "n-no! i guess i was, maybe, sad at the possibility of you finding better coffee elsewhere," felix almost whispered, eyes trained on his fingers as he fiddled with them behind the cash register.

"felix, are you jealous?"

he reached a new level of panic. "i-i'm not jealous. why would i be jealous? i mean, we serve some good ass coffee," he stuttered, hands gesturing towards the establishment's entire set-up. felix cleared his throat and straightened up, tugging on his collar. he noticed a few new customers strolling in since he started talking to you, so he'd better wrap this up before chan nags at him again. "i just didn't want to lose our best customer—who's gonna be paying our bills? it's like, do you even love us the same way we do you? like come on."

"who's we?" minho from the back, again. another punch to the gut.

you were just giggling at him at this point. you knew of his infatuation towards you—it is kind of obvious, not to mention the overt teasing from his colleagues—so it was just a matter of teasing him a bit. "if you must know, i was out sick the past few days," you chirped, while he punched your usual order into the system. "i would never cheat!"

felix, of course, completely bombarded you with questions about what happened and how you're feeling, even apologised for insinuating that you would cheat on his café. you assured him it's all good, and he eventually handed you your receipt, fingers brushing against yours for a second longer than they should. "sorry, felix, but you're going to have to deal with me everyday for a while," you quipped before moving onto the pick-up side of the counter.

"good, because i want to see you everyday."

tbh, MPreg is not my thing, but suddenly remembered that, that’s a thing. This brings me back to the good old days of hetalia cuz this fandom had a LOT of Mpreg going around, lol.

Just like I said in a previous reply: it depends on how it’s used. If it’s just a happy family, and the purpose of mpreg in the story is simply to put characters in the scenario in which they are expecting, it’s absolutely not for us; it could even get triggering at times. Even in terms of kinks, sometimes it works well, but sometimes it turns into a massive squick. I can’t even describe it in a way that would be 100% conclusive; it’s a delicate topic, I guess. If it’s more messed up or if there are darker themes involved, it’s much more likely to work, and with mpreg it has a lot of potential to be messed up by definition.

When it comes to possibility and magic, yeah, twst universe gives a lot of opportunities to make mpreg happen! Be it convenient magic, unique reproductive systems of certain species, or even something that simply exists in-universe. It’s funny that you mentioned Malleus because the idea of him being able to lay eggs certainly pops up in our conversations from time to time… the mechanics of that, the implications, the complicated relationship Malleus would have with it and stuff; there is a lot to talk about. (We actually have a kinky comic where he lays an egg and Lilia crushes it, but completely forgot about it... it’s been a while.)

And Azul too, I think we talked about him making Idia carry his eggs at some point. When it’s animalistic like that, it’s much more fun because it’s less real, more weird and a bit gross <3 which automatically makes it hot because Idia would be freaked out the entire time.

So yeah, it all depends, and honestly goes from -100 to 1000 at times lol, so it shouldn’t stop you from sending asks. If the theme is something that we don’t like or have nothing to say about, we’ll just skip it.

What’s interesting about this ship is that Sebek has no idea where to put Leona in his mental scale of important people: he really doesn’t like him, he hates how Leona treats Malleus, but he is also supposed to respect Leona nonetheless (Lilia and Malleus both remind him of that) + doesn’t like being dismissed by Leona for some reason. So if Leona wants to provoke Sebek into sleeping with him somehow, it’d be easier than one might think: Sebek really is gullible… but if he learns about Leona’s motive behind seducing him, he would get so angry and also disappointed in himself that he might actually attack Leona and get in trouble for that lol

Although the thing is, there is a big problem with Leona’s plan: if Sebek is having an active affair with Malleus (= being his little boytoy), it won’t be easy to seduce him. And if Sebek isn’t having an affair with Malleus, Malleus probably wouldn’t care much. So was the croc dick even worth it, Leona?

When i was a child i thought that Beckett and Norrington were the same person. But when i had watched the third movie i was really confused, because there were two Norrington (on my mind) and i was like wtf x)

After a while I stopped question things there and was like "ok, fine", because i remembered dead men, sea goddess etc. But i still thought, that Beckett is cooler version of Norrington :D (the reason was wig and death scene) (Norrington and cooler Norrington (who is Beckett) meme)

(on my mind they were alternative demention's versions or something like that, i don't remember this clearly)

Thank God there are more people like you here. When I found your page I scrolled for hours and I was at peace. I am glad that so many people are angry. They should be, I know I am. I hope that the reaction resonates with Netflix and the writers. It's honestly so weird for me to see the Sims 4 in my beginning baking series because my most recent baking posts are in the Sims 3. When I was doing the Sims 4 posts I would use the drone from Get Famous and live stream my Sims baking/cooking. And then I found Kawaii Stacies Streaming mod.

Now with the Sims 3, I just use poses and custom recipes, and they work with NRAAS.

how do you keep finding these incredibly niche and incredibly awesome aesthetics

omg WELL, I will try to be concise here!!

basically it started because I got really into vaporwave relatively early in its existence, I think I discovered it in around 2013. Now, something about there being an entire online named Artistic Movement with clear design principles was extremely cool to me, and 2013 is also the earliest I can find a use of the term “junglepunk” on my blog, because this is the term I was using as a personal placeholder for the type of stuff that I have since discovered is being called utopian scholastic. I figured, if there wasn’t a “vaporwave” equivalent for the art/media niche I remembered so vividly, I would just call it something of my own.

So, I came to this newer discovery because in the decade since getting into vaporwave I’ve followed just… so many aesthetic blogs. One of my absolute favourites is @newwavearch90 but I love going on an adventure down various tumblr rabbit holes of related blogs and posts. I also watch a lot of design history videos on youtube, as well as having an interest in lost media, old web stuff, analog horror ARGs, stuff like that. For example, this guy’s video about clip art is very interesting:

And so, a few months ago youtube recommended me THIS video and as soon as I saw the thumbnail I was like oh holy shit, I know exactly what style of design this is talking about. Anyone who used Windows XP would recognise this:

And once again, like the vaporwave discovery, the realisation that there are ongoing efforts being made to classify design movements of which I have vivid living memory was like… mindblowing to me. For some reason, lol. My appreciation for vaporwave has always been through a reflective filter of the media produced during that time, my response to it is really my response to the media, as opposed to having any real emotional connection to the actual time period and places the media is portraying.

And so after discovering Frutiger Aero I googled it, and came across the CARI (Consumer Aesthetics Research Institute) site. They work to catalogue and index this exact stuff, the aesthetics and reasoning behind all these different movements. It’s also co-founded by the same guy who runs @newwavearch90. Finding the actual names of the aesthetics I have the most emotional connection/nostalgia for has been less of a stroke of luck, but more because I’ve been snooping around the types of blogs and websites where I just happened to see certain posts tagged either Global Village Coffeehouse or Utopian Scholastic, then the giant lightbulb goes off. The relief of putting a name to a sound, an image, a feeling that was so important and exciting and comforting to you in the past, that has shaped so much of your taste and interests in the years since.

I think the base concept of “aesthetics” in general has gotten a bad rap in recent years. I know it can be grating to see teenagers try to categorise their whole identities into the easily consumed “aesthetic”, but we can’t ignore how much ageism and specifically misogyny is wrapped up in that assessment. Like, yes, where once there were just preps and goths it can be depressing to see teenagers (especially teen girls) ask themselves whether they are “old money east coast quiet luxury aesthetic girlies” or “mallpunk y2k whimsigoth aesthetic girlies” - but the problem isn’t in teens trying to find their identity, it’s that social media pushes the search for identity specifically through consumerism.

Teens liking aesthetics on tiktok just isn’t my concern. I’m far more interested in how art and design aesthetics relate to consumerism, to technological advances, to socio-political cultural context, to societal values. Why did these aesthetics arise at the time they did, and why were they popular, why did they fall out of the zeitgeist etc.

So yeah, to be not at all concise in any way; it’s because this stuff fascinates me and I love researching it 🥳

Hi! No worries, I don't mind replying in any language, as long as I can speak it, of course xD I don't usually speak my native language since most of the people following my blog can't understand Spanish.

In any case, answering to your question: I do have some preferences. I answered someone else before, but I can't look for the ask now, so here you go:

My favourite translation (because it doesn't add random things) is from Germán Gómez de la Mata. The editorial (at least here in Spain) is La Esfera de Los Libros. It's an Spanish translation from a French translation, tho, but it really follows the original text ! It doesn't demonize Odysseus, but it doesn't ignore his mistakes either, it's my favourite to re-read :) Spanish translations tend to translate from another language instead of directly from Greek, since classics sadly don't have the importance they used to have :( but they're usually good !! Lingüistics have said more than once that French translations of the Odyssey are pretty good, which is why Spanish translations use them as a reinforcement when needing to translate.

And now, this is the favourite one from the rest of the people, if you search around the internet, you'll find that the most recommended one is the translation done by Luis Segalá y Estalella. The editorial is LIBRERO. In general, thankfully, it's pretty accurate to the original text. The reason it's so liked besides having some stuff that makes you go ¿🤨? it's because it's translated from Greek to Spanish directly ! It's old, tho, which explains why it's not perfect and therefore, not my favourite compared to the other one I mentioned; perhaps with some luck, classics will regain the importance they had once again, at least the Greek ones, Ancient Rome is very present in Spain at least ^^"

Hopefully one day I'll be able to translate the Odyssey by myself, it has been my main goal since I was a child lol. Makes me very happy to see you've liked Odysseus since you were young as well !! He has been a very important figure in my life since I first read the Odyssey when being 10. It's a hard read when you're not used to all the epithets and long, loooooong descriptions and dialogues, but you get used to it.
