ryissa is such a weird ship to me. whenever they break up it feels so wrong and heartbreaking, i root for them to get back together every time, they’re my babies. and then when they Are together it just kind of … sucks.

Can I say how much I love how Ouran High School handles the rich boy/poor girl in love trope. 

Like I absolutely believe it’s discussions about classism and elitism to this Day still hold up! 

I will admit there is so much weird stuff in ouran😭, but we see the Handsome ‘Unlimited Money’ Male Lead a LOT in anime and I feel ouran gets a lot of points of the characterisation SO right, that a lot of other shows just don’t! 

Ouran does the whole love story/harem/all the boys want brown hair girl that we project on, trope. Like they do that, but they show that at the foundation, the root of all of it, those rich boys are JEALOUS. They aren’t approaching Haruhi with the need to protect and own her, at their core the rich are envious of her! Even though they have everything, they want what she has! 

Like we see in the real world with how the rich cosplay as poor! And say "ohhhh I'm so broke please venmo me for lunch" and wear their ripped jeans and strained sweaters and take pictures at the met gala with a box of McDonalds fries in their hand. 

The classist comments made towards Haruhi ARE comedic relief, but the joke isn’t on characters like Haruhi, the joke is on THEM. 

They are the ones who can’t do anything! They are the ones who are stilted and emotionally closed off! They are the ones who can’t make an instant coffee or go to a mall without help! 

THAT is why Haruhi is the center of this harem, why she is the one they’re chasing. They are jealous of her insight and world experience from living independently, from living a REAL life. That is her enviable trait. Haruhi GETS people! And they don’t. Their wealth has isolated them and now there is a barrier between these characters and the rest of the world and they have no idea how to navigate it. 

And this is the foundation of 90% of the problems/conflict in the show! 

The holiday ep when Hikaru has feelings because Haruhi reconnects with Nice Guy Arai? Hikaru says he doesn’t like this guy for all these reasons and most of them are like ‘he’s just some nobody from nothing who only knows Haruhi cause they went to some stupid public school together’. Like okay? Haruhi has all of those ‘bad traits’ as well but you still seem to like her?  

Because it’s not about that, it’s never about that, it’s not even about the love rival/romance angle (at least not completely).  

Hikaru is scared and embarrassed! He already was when they got there, when these rich boys crashed Haruhi’s summer to find out she is an employee here and she is working with her own two hands. This is not a break for her! And then he’s so worried when Haruhi and Arai find each other because what they have is so untouchable to him. Same background, same class, they can meet each other’s needs! And know the other's needs! And this is a chasm that Hikaru has no idea how to cross so he starts lashing out. 

And that episode concludes with Hikaru being told about Haruhi’s fear of thunderstorms, finally actually listening and empathizing with what that means, and then going to her and giving her the stuff she needs to deal with that problem (blanket, headphones, support, protection etc.). 

He has to LEARN that none of those poor people inherently know all this secret knowledge! They just care and ask each other stuff! You can ask Haruhi what she's afraid of and then help her with that! It was always this simple! Just because you’re not the same class as her and knowing her isn’t as easy as it is with people the same as you, doesn’t mean you’ll never know! Learn! Listen! Keep trying! 

Ouran shows their rich characters being hurt by their wealth. Their elitists mindset does NOT benefit them and they’re only narratively rewarded when they break out of it, THAT’S why the arcs are so good. 

(And also while we’re here, I LOVE when they do eps that show Tamaki’s character is actually a parallel of Haruhi’s. Tamaki grew up as an illegitimate child, hidden away in France with his mother. He knows what it is to not be at the top of the food chain, and he learns the skills to keep living! Tamaki is a survivor in a world run by a man who was ashamed of him and did not want him. That can destroy a child, but Tamaki doesn’t let it. He learns how to work people and he learns that belief in yourself is the most powerful asset someone can have. And this is the life experience he imparts onto Kyoya and this SAVES Kyoya, who was barreling towards a black pit of despair and chasing his father’s shadow. The ‘poor’ characters of this show have power that the rich people desperately desire, and in the end they learn that it’s not something you take it’s something you build for yourself.)

Appearance - 5'7", semi muscular, geto posture (😭), fluffy curly hair with dark brown roots dyed blonde, multicolor cat eyes, always has a neutral expression of murder and I swear it's not their fault, they're just sleep deprived 😭 considered pretty attractive but they couldn't care less tbh

Personality- like, half and half. They appear and sound very very calm and neutral (or even intimidating), but their words and actions are always unpredictable. They're stubborn in a way that nothing in the world could budge them- except something ridiculous like a cookie 😭 they're cool and mature, but they're easily pleased in a way that's Childish. Basically they can fit any labels, and how they act just depends on who they're around- so like semi manipulative in the likeable way?? Idk. There for anyone, anytime. They're super strong n tough, the absolute idgaf type, but deep down they care too much. As tired as they seem, they're never without energy (hence the constant multitasking). They really just don't want to be a problem to anyone, but they're like draken or baji in the sense that they're never afraid to instinctively tell you what's on their mind to your face. Basically a tsundere mom friend with a past thatttt we don't talk about😭 they should give themself a break

Hobbies or likes- they never stop listening to music, enjoy hanging out with a lot of people, sweet little snacks, and hide their habits of drawing and writing. They're really just built around self expressionism and trying new things and having fun :) Their favorite thing to do is watch the sky but they never have time to. They may or may not have surprising anger issues they need to fix, but at least they're not getting angry at people? (Totally not something like pokemon games when an eevee runs away or something 😭)

Boy or girl doesn't matter, just not someone who canonically ends up with someone- or kisaki or hanma 😭

Why?

You understand each other.

Bare with me. I'm not choosing Souya just because your appearance is pretty much the same, and you can complain how you hate dealing with your hair, but deeply because you'll connect.

I personally headcanon the Kawata twins having some sort of mental issue coming from early childhood.

Souya would be having rage issues. Not just anger, rage. He gathers it all up to a point where when someone hurts someone dear to him, he goes murder mode without hesitation taking away lifes.

Having anger issues, I don't believe you'd go straight up murder mode, but if you do spare my soul please

At first, you'd be just talking and all, like friends. Finding it amusing how you're both rocking a resting bitch face with a kind heart

After some time, the rest kicks in. When you're both comfortable enough and trust each other, you start telling some secrets. You shared your anger issues with Souya and gave him a half-ass explanation about it, not taking it too seriously. When Souya started talking about his rage, you know where this will lead.

Everyone says opposites attract, but for me, it's not always the case.

You balance each other with trust and shared mindset.

Souya takes you to gang meetings almost always, but you have to stay right by his side.

Also, on the opposite side of Nahoya. The bitch feral /jk

You quickly befriend the crew and the sweet Hina and Emma who ADORED you

After every meeting, Souya smuggles you away from the rest so you can watch the sky. Will it be midnight, evening, golden hour, or just a bland day. He knows you love watching the sky, so he pulls you to some special secluded place he chose himself for you to watch the sky. He gives you some snacks to eat while doing so. Sometimes you talk and sometimes you just stay in a comfortable silence, thankful you found each other.

In conclusion,

Love the person next to you regardless. No matter how they appear or the issues they have. Nobody is perfect. Everyone has problems.

Try fixing them instead of taking the easy way out. There is no easy way. It's just a form of mindset that leads you to a harder life. Don't be a pussy.

I can't believe that paraluman is almost over!!! This story is definitely one of my comfort fics, even tho it caused me so much stress and had me typing a review for 2 hours straight feeling all over the place after binge reading the first 30 parts😅 it was a story with complex characters and lots of inner (and sometimes physical) conflict. At first I really tried not to be biased (bc I always choose seokjin, fight me) and for quite a few chapters all I could think about was please stay away from each other and grow tf up😫 but then!!! when seokjin started opening up I was a goner!!! Jk may have provided comfort and closeness in a way that it's like returning home after a long tiring day, but he didn't offer any room for personal growth. Now I can totally see how he envied jin and get it why he was so against jin and oc getting together, in comparison to her and yoongi back then.

The symbolism with the base and the flowers!!!! That scene was so intense and it totally slipped my mind that the broken vase (jk and oc) hurt jin. Seokjin was hurt both physically and emotionally by them bc he got caught up in all that drama (insert me crying in the bus while reading that part)! The peaches sumbolism wasn't half-assed in my opinion bc they mostly represented her underwear BUT that was (at first) the core of their relationship; just physical and sexual. The way it bloomed tho and the other interpretations of peaches tho made me smile bc Y E S that's so cute that's so them🥺❤

And one last thing...kimi... ADDING CLOSER ON JK'S SONGS!??!?!?!? OK NOW I FEEL SAD AND I NEVER ROOTED FOR HIM😭

🌹 I got so excited when the notifs came in for this and I just wanted to cry at the 19k words. Mainly because I like reading long fics/series especially if it's as juicy as this. And oh wow, the tension between them I can just sink into. I also love how some thoughts are presented in a visually funny way like jungkook thinking Immunology is some Power Rangers villain lol. Just funny and yet also tells a lot about the scene or the personalities.

"You paused, realizing that you had been chewing on your yellow pencil like an enraged hamster for the past few minutes." - lol 😂 you go ahead baby just let it all out. I'll give you all the pencils you can chew your heart on.

Below the cut is how this particular chapter just left me incoherent. Ineloquent live reaction (which mostly consisted of crying) coming through:

ugh. i felt how OC's world stopped a bit during these thoughts.

The tension and those jealous feelings are just so palpable that I was feeling bad for MC too. It difficult to cope with emotions that come out strong and yet it's so unfamiliar. The fact that she can't share with her friends what's going on is just frustrating I'm sure. And her journey of processing her feelings was a fun (and agonizing) thing to watch. I love that the writer focused on this with like a step by step program towards Jungkook detox lol (though she couldn't last that long)

"You tangled yourself into Jungkook’s life with ease, you were his first thought when he woke up and the last one before he went to sleep and he was always trying to find some excuse to see you again."

Going through Jungkook's POV was my favorite because I get to see more of his emotions towards OC. The more I delve into his thoughts, the more I root for him and OC. And I have half a mind to jump into the scene and just put them in a room and talk about true feelings and they happily rode into the sunset.

"Then what is it about, Jungkook?” You stared him down, daring him to say something to contradict you. “Because that is all that we have. That’s all we are.”

*deep sigh* *sighs again* *sighs for the nth time* it felt like a break up and yet it's not so why is my heart hurting so? 😭

This confrontation scene, I had to read so slowly because my heart was beating fast. I feel like it's about to get real bad and seriously I just want them to accept they mean more to each other than fwbs. And I almost teared up when it's not going smoothly and the idea of them happily riding into the sunset seemed far away.

"You were crying because Jungkook showed you that he wanted you with him as well, and all that you could do was push him away. You were crying because you felt like the biggest coward in the world. And you were crying because you missed him."

I'm crying too. Seriously I can't think. I just hate this and yet I totally understand OC's behavior she has go go through this process so she can make sense how a bad boy and a good girl can be great together.

"You missed Jungkook, and all the good, the bad, and the ugly that he brought along with him. You wanted to call him. Wanted to make it right."

bish hurry up and call him please. End our agony 😭. "It was official: you were a sad, needy drunk" - contrary to what OC thought, drinking kinda solved her problem. I don't think she'd have the courage to call him otherwise.

🌹 Okay I like how it ended. They're not into that lovey-dovey established rel stuff yet. But at least they're now talking and establishing mutual respect. It's still an fwb set up and we'll get to the deeper parts another time. In the fic's words: that was a problem for another day. I trust the author with whatever direction they're going to take us through with one of my favorite bickering fwb couples.

PS. Seriously love the appearance of Taehyung in the end. What a cutie 😍

You didn’t use to lie so much before you met Jungkook. 

To be fair, there was no reason to. If you told your parents that you’d be spending the night with Jisoo, that’s all you did — giggling and gossiping until the early hours of the day; no secret parties, no elaborate plans to meet up with boys you barely knew. If you said that you were in class, that’s where you were: front seat, typing every word that the professor spoke. There was no ulterior motive, no secret agenda to hide from everyone else. Your life was very clean and direct, and you were perfectly fine with it. 

But of course, Jungkook managed to turn that around quite swiftly and, before you could even register your actions, you were spilling lies like it was your second nature. You would tell Jisoo that you weren’t in her cheering practice because you had gotten stuck in class (and not because Jungkook was eating you out in the backseat of his car). You would tell your roommate that you didn’t know why the front door was unlocked (even if you had forgotten to lock it after a late night escapade) and endured her three weeks of panic in a guilty silence, ruminating on your actions, but refusing to come clean. And you would smile at your parents during your video calls, reassuring them over and over that there was nothing to worry about — your grades were up, your projects were doing great, you were having fun volunteering and there was absolutely no boy involved to distract you. No boy at all. 

And you would try and lie to yourself that there was no boy, in fact. That you and Jungkook had a weird sexual situation going on, but that was about it. It would be just a quick fling, a way for him to pass his time, but eventually the two of you would head your separate ways and everything would be rightfully forgotten. You’d be crazy to try something serious with someone that couldn’t even commit to showing up to tutoring in time, so there was no way in hell that you could get involved with him, right?

But well… another thing that didn’t happen before you met Jungkook, however, was that weird, sickly feeling on your chest when you saw him with someone else.
