Merry Whump of May Day 2
@themerrywhumpofmay
“Need a ride?”
-wrench
-paranoia

Big huge thanks to my always amazing whumperful crew: @whumpcereal @quietly-by-myself @sparrowsage and to @oddsconvert who put in a lovely beta job for this little prequel.
Warnings for this story: bad intentions by the main character, whumper perspective, derogatory internal dialogue, intent to engage in noncon (talked about, not actually written), drunkenness, smoking.
A King of the Road Prequel (Find the original King of the Road (Whumptober 2022) post here.)
Tumblr media
Six Months Ago…
The Trucker dropped his cigarette to the asphalt and ground it out with the toe of his boot.  He surveyed the parking lot of another club in another town in Somewheresville, America.  Fresh hunting ground.
He watched the drunk college freshmen, who by all means shouldn’t even be here, idiotically looking for the friends he’d come with.  He’d been stumbling around the parking lot for nearly twenty minutes now.  The cars have been steadily streaming out or their owner’s steadily being bundled into taxi cabs and Ubers.
When the young man passed by his idling truck for the third time the trucker smiled at him.
“You lost darlin’?”
The young man swayed a bit as he stopped and took in the sight of the big, red, oversized trucking cab.  The Trucker could see the wheels turning in the young man’s head, trying to process the question.
“‘M not lossss...”
“But you’re not found either, are ya?”  The Trucker looked the young man up and down, smiling the whole time.  “What happened?  Can’t find yer buddies?”
“No… I… They’re here s’m where…”
This was just too easy.  And this little one was sure pretty.  His pale green eyes, watery and wide, set in a cute face with cheeks flushed a bit too red, and finished off by a pair of lovely cherry red lips.  The Trucker licked his own lips as he thought about shoving himself into that perfect round mouth.  The boy’s cherubic face was surrounded by a mop of messy dark blue hair.  He could see the boy’s warm breath huffing out in front of him in the cold night air.
“I’d be happy to give you a ride, wherever you need.  My truck’s nice and warm.  I bet you ain’t too far from here, right?”
“No… I… not far.  I just… my friends have to be here somewhere.  I just… maybe over there?”
The young man started to walk away, tripping over his own feet and barely catching himself on a parked sedan, towards the far side of the parking lot.
The Trucker reached out and wrenched the boy’s arm back a bit harder than he intended too.  The kid’s phone went skittering across the pavement and under the truck.  When their eyes met, the kid’s pale green eyes were wide with sudden fear and paranoia.
The Trucker laughed it off.
“Whoops, now look what happened.  You’re in no state to be walking across the parking lot, son.  You’re gonna get yourself kilt.”  He gently guided the boy towards the door of his truck.  “Why don’t you come have a lie down and I’ll get you where you need to go.  Hop up there and I’ll grab your phone.”
The drunk college kid blinked rapidly, still trying to process what the trucker was saying.  All the while the Trucker was guiding him towards the cab of his truck.  The big red door opened quietly and he helped the boy up on the first step.  The Trucker had done this a million times, and knew he had a charming, disarming personality.  As the boy swayed backwards, the Trucker let his hand slip from the small of his back to the roundness of his pert, tight little college boy ass.  Oh he was so going to enjoy this one.
“You got a name, pretty boy?”
“B… Bob-by.”
“That’s right nice.  Little Bobby Blue.  Once you get up there, grab yerself some water.  It’ll help clear your head.  Might keep you from a mighty powerful headache in the morning.”
“Yeahhhh, that souns gooo…”
Little Bobby Blue was going to make a great companion.  The Trucker could taste it, or rather, Bobby Blue would be tasting it.  The Trucker leaned down and retrieved the kid’s phone from under the edge of his truck.
Just as Little Bobby Blue was about to take the top step up into the truck, a sleek black Uber pulled up next to the truck. Several loud, clearly drunk, guys were hanging out of the windows.
“BOBBY!!!!  There you are, you dumb fuck.  We’ve been looking all over for you.  How the hell did you get over here?”
“Yeah, what the hell you doing getting in that truck Bobby?” another one said.
“Thisss guy’s gonna give me a ride.”
“Awe thanks, mister.  Awful nice.  But we got us a nice Uber to take us back to the house.  Come on Bobby, quit fuckin around and get your ass in the car.”
Bobby almost fell on the Trucker as climbed back down the steps and stumbled towards the car. That's the most amount of fucking action he'll get tonight, now.
“Nice to meet you, Bobby.  I’ll keep an eye out for you.  You be safe now,” the Trucker said, his face a mask of polite calmness while inside he was raging.
“Don’t forget your phone, Bobby,” one of the generic drunk guys said.  Bobby staggered back towards the Trucker, retrieved his phone, and then nearly fell into the open doorway of the car, sending his idiotic buddies into a frenzy of laughter.
The Trucker glanced around the parking lot.  FUCK!  There were no other tasty, convenient little fishes to be caught.  He slammed the door to his cab shut and then yanked open the driver’s door of the truck.  May as well start driving.  He was all hot and bothered and there would be no release tonight unless it was his own hand.  Perhaps he could try the rest stops.  Sometimes unsuspecting people found themselves in vulnerable situations.  He ground the gears of his truck as he started out of sheer frustration.  He revved the engine louder than he normally would, the rattling growl echoing across the wide open plains of the flat terrain.  He’d find someone.  He scraped his teeth together and reached for his cigarettes.  Maybe he could smoke himself calm.  He made a hard fist around the lighter as he struck it up.
He sucked in a lungful of smoke and blew it out again. He leaned back against the headrest and closed his eyes for a moment, calling up the blue framed face of his escaped victim.  Damn he would have liked that one.  If he came back through this town any time soon, he’d be on the prowl for his Little Bobby Blue.
Little Bobby Blue had dodged a bullet that night.  It’s possible he wouldn’t always be that lucky.  But for tonight, Bobby Blue made it home safely.

I love it when characters are simultaneously both Whumpees and Caretakers. Everyone gets the shit beaten out of them and everyone gets a kiss on the forehead afterwards.

A vampire trainer Whumper who was once a fresh-faced innovator who was endlessly curious about them. A researcher, perhaps, or a student lobbying for social change. For stricter laws about the treatment of demihumans in wider society.
There’s a change in the law that states that certain species need to pass a training program in order to keep their lives. (To stay in the homes of other people trying to ‘do right by them’). Whumper, with all their expertise and desire for conservation, becomes one of the few practitioners offering to get any vampire through the rigorous ‘taming’ process. After all, it’s all for the greater good. These creatures would be culled, if not for the good will of struggling academics, right? I mean, *somebody* has to do the dirty work…
This would work well in a pet whump scenario. Maybe vampires aren’t capable of higher order thinking because of the horrific turning process. Or maybe that’s just what the majority of humans think.

i think shame & its manifestations in whump is not talked about enough. like i love when whumpee is physically unable to tell caretaker about all they went through, not only because it is insanely distressing to relive but also because it's humiliating. 'how can someone be so cruel?' is another question, but we're also talking 'how did i let that happen to myself?' from whumpee's perspective. often times post something traumatizing whumpees develop this deep-seated feeling of hopelessness & helplessness & misguided anger which is just in sweet words not cool
because think about it, the whumpee could not stop anything from happening to them. there's always this notion of having to stand up for yourself, but whumpee didn't even get the chance to. who should you be angry at? whumper? the system? yourself?
the fact that it happened is so terribly real and if paired with the conditioning of whumper & possible victim blaming, the shame eventually turns into this twisted form of denial, where whumpee is unable to confront the fact that they were hurt so bad and it just turns into oh my god i hate that it happened to me. i want to erase that it all happened. i wish i could live just one day forgetting it all and wake up thinking what was i so stressed about? i wish i could walk past whumper and think 'who were they again'? nobody should know about this because i cant deal with it myself and i don't know what i'll do if it all goes out
yk what im talking abt?

let's play a game:
Send me an ask including a line of dialog and a whump role. I will give you five or so responses to that dialog, from the perspective of the role.
For example, if you send, "I'll never break", and "Whumper", my responses will be:
"We'll see about that after a few months or so."
"Oh, say that again. I need to get it recorded. Future proof, yknow?"
"[distantly, distracted with tools] If you say so."
etc. etc.
Send 'em in!

Augusnippets Day 1: Brainwashing
CW: 2nd pov from whumper's perspective, brainwashing (obvi), general Gothic whump
In the shadowy dining room, whumpee sits alone, candlelight flickering across his expressionless face. His folded hands lie motionless in his lap. His eyes stare at nothing, two blank windows that open into emptiness.
Perfection. Just what you always wanted. A beautiful, flawless doll of your own.
“My dear whumpee,” you murmur, “I see all our hard work has paid off. You look exquisite.” Gently, you brush the back of your hand against his collar and down his silk vest. Its embroidery glimmers like stars.
Whumpee remains statue-still at your touch. Just what you always wanted.
“Not a single thought in your head,” you muse aloud, walking around whumpee to examine him from all angles. “Of course I can always change that if I want. But for now, this emptiness is—”
With an echoing crash, the door to the dining room slams open. Caretaker. The ferocious glint in his eyes delights you. Such a contrast to the magnificent blankness sitting before you.
“You’re too late, as usual.” You stride forward, shielding your precious whumpee from view. “I’ve already completed the process. And only I can reverse it. If I choose.”
“Then do it,” caretaker growls, drawing his weapon, “or I’ll make you beg for death.”
How silly. Threats mean nothing to you now, in the wake of your triumph. You step aside, revealing whumpee’s seated form, frozen and lifeless as if made of porcelain. Caretaker gasps and rushes forward.
“And why would I undo this,” you ask, gesturing at whumpee, “when at last I’ve created the perfect living doll?”

Summary of results - Intercultural and cross-linguistic perspectives on the whump genre
Here is a summary of the results from the research thesis, "Intercultural and cross-linguistic perspectives on the whump genre"! This was part of my studying a Master of Contemporary International Studies. The research aimed to explore how whump-interested people connect with the whump genre cross-culturally and cross-linguistically.
Back in June/July this year (2023), I sent out a questionnaire open to any whump-interested person, and also invited interviews for bilingual whump-interested people. I've finally finished my thesis, and overall was awarded an A- for it!
The full thesis is available now to read on Academia.edu, and will also be available on IPU New Zealand's library website in January 2024.
Tumblr media
This research was approved for Human Research Ethics Clearance by the IPU New Zealand Research and Development Commitee on 3rd May 2023 (HREC-2023-05-03-01).
----
(NB: Due to there being an extensive amount of results, I've only summarised the key findings of the results section and a brief conclusion here. I've referenced page numbers for the full thesis if you'd like to read the extended version.)
-----
Summary of results (Questionnaire)
233 respondents | 92 different cultural/faith-based identities
The questionnaire was used to answer Research Question 1, "How do the aspects of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and Schwartz’ universal human values reflect in the characteristics of whump genre identity?"
The questionnaire explored four themes associated with whump genre concepts - “agency,” “comfort,” “stoicism,” and “knowledge” - and found (p. 87):
For the theme of “agency,” questionnaire participants tended to perceive a greater importance for agency for the caretaker and whumper roles. This may be related to the caretaker and whumper role characters’ abilities to carry out their roles of caretaking and whumping respectively. While the cultural dimensions did not appear to be factors inherent to the theme of agency for the whumpee role in a whump genre story, this appeared to work towards supporting the cross-cultural enjoyment of whump. For the theme of “comfort,” hurt comfort, physical comfort and long-term recovery may be more accommodating of cultural dimension dynamics and have a greater capacity to fully realise the goals of Schwartz’ values. For the theme of “stoicism,” the way in which these dimensions can so diversely be applied to this theme suggests a cross-culturally applicable ground. For the theme of “knowledge,” the balance between the certainty of a known whumpee and the uncertainty of an unknown whumper indicate variable tolerance of ambiguity within the whump genre. This suggests a cross-culturally applicable ground.
Summary of results (Interview)
The full results section for the questionnaire can be read in the full thesis (pp. 61-87).
-----
31 interviewees (15 spoken, 16 written) | 24 different languages
The interview was used to answer Research Question 2, "How do bilingual whump-interested people perceive the ability to convey themes of hurt comfort (a subgenre of whump) in different languages?"
The interview questions were categorised into themes:
Theme 1: Preferences for language when interacting with fiction
Theme 2: Comparisons of different languages’ abilities to convey physical and emotional pain
Theme 3: Limitations or difficulties experienced when conveying whump in, and across, different languages
Theme 4: Cultural, social, and/or linguistic reasons influencing pronunciation of “whump”
Following transcription of the interviews, a thematic analysis involving examining code co-occurences found (p. 123):
For “Theme 1: Preferences for language when interacting with fiction,” preferences tended to be associated with the availability of media, the ability to connect with the author’s intended meaning, and the level of ease and comfort with which interviewees could engage with the fictional media. For “Theme 2: Comparisons of different languages’ abilities to convey physical and emotional pain,” interviewees’ comparisons highlighted differing ways of presenting and conveying pain in language, for example, through language features and words. Overall, interviewees felt that the languages which they were fluent in were generally equally capable of conveying physical and emotional pain, although different languages tended to approach the communicating of pain in different ways. For “Theme 3: Limitations or difficulties experienced when conveying whump in, and across, different languages,” the perceived limitations and difficulties experienced across languages tended to be associated with difficulties in conveying semantic, pragmatic and cultural meaning across languages, and tended to stem from the differences between sociolinguistic approaches to communicating ideas in languages. For “Theme 4: Cultural, social, and/or linguistic reasons influencing pronunciation of “whump,” common cultural, social and linguistic reasons for interviewees’ pronunciations of “whump” included how interviewees expected the word to sound based on their expectations of the letters in the phonological environment, the impact of a lack of having heard the word spoken aloud, sociocultural influences, intuition and language education.
Conclusions (brief exerpt from p. 130)
The full results section for the interview can be read in the full thesis (pp. 61-87). Interview transcripts (sensitive details filtered out) can be read in Appendix H (pp. 177-399).
-----
Research Question 1 explored cross-culturally applicable aspects of the whump genre. The findings suggested that themes of the whump genre accommodate variations in cultural social orientations and values, thereby enabling an interculturally common ground among whump-interested people.
Using qualitative research (interview), Research Question 2 explored how bilingual whump-interested people perceive and connect with hurt comfort themes across different languages. The findings suggest that multiple factors contribute to how bilingual whump-interested people engage with the whump genre, including but not limited to first and second languages as a tool to experience closely or otherwise distance the subject with, the availability of whump media in different languages, and manner of conveying aspects of pain and comfort through lexical, phonetic, grammatical and cultural aspects of language.
----
Thank you to everyone who participated in the research - the questionnaire and/or the interview! Your voices are all important in this kind of research, and are all very much appreciated!

Shadows Of The Ordinary
Autistic whump || henchman edition
Everyone is different!! And this is from my perspective as an autistic individual :) Please tell me if I'm being offensive!!
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Whumper walked down the stairs, unlocking the basement door as he stepped in. Henchman should be there with Whumpee, as Whumper had order him to—
"Henchman— oh God. What DID you do?!"
Henchman raised an eyebrow at Whumper's dramatic reaction. He looked at him innocently as he glanced down at Whumpee. The poor boy was being tied all around his body. His arms and ribs were squished together, his ankles and thighs along with his flushed face on display.
"I said tie him up, I didn't ask you to cut off his blood circulation!"
Henchman shrugged, "Well, I wasn't sure if I should tie his wrists and ankles with the ropes because he can still move around that way. I wanted to use the chain that's attached to the wall but you might prefer the first option so…"
Whumper closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose as he sighed deeply. "Just…untie him before he passes out."
"...untie him?"
"Yes, untie him— I mean, keep the necessary part together."
Henchman nodded before kneeling down and working on the ropes. He giggled and Whumper narrowed his eyes. "What's so funny?"
"Sorry, Whumpee's face is just so hilarious."
Whumper rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest. As Henchman finally done with the rope and Whumpee can finally breathing normally again, Whumper spoke up,
"I will let you know the only way you can get out of this place is by telling the truth."
Whumpee glared up at Whumper, coughing slightly. "I won't tell you anything. You can do whatever you want to me but I would rather die than betraying my friends."
Whumper hummed in understanding. He thought of something for a moment before his deep voice cut through the air. "Henchman, go outside."
"But why—"
"Go outside and put on your special headphones." Whumper turned his head to Henchman, watching as the other nodded and walked out of the room.
He glanced down at Whumpee again, a cold expression on his face.
"There will be a lot of blood and screaming tonight."
~
-- Whumper just cares about Henchman, okay?! He's not trying to infantilize him!!

Note
would a story count that is more about hurting someone else rather than being hurt? would that be a subcategory of whump where it's centered around the whumper, or is it different enough that it would be considered something else?
That sounds fine! It doesn't have to be about the whumpee, it can be from the perspective of the whumper or even an observer. As long as someone in the story is miserable, it counts.

Ok, so we’ve seen the violently protective caretaker shtick right? Love that. What about violently protective whumpee? Specific scenario I have in my head rn:
Whumpee was someone very powerful; a powerful mage, a legendary knight, a living weapon. They were captured, whumped, then left for dead in the woods somewhere, where caretaker found them and nursed them back to health. Since then, whumpee has been living with caretaker, helping them on their farm, your standard issue domestic bliss. Caretaker isn’t a fighter by any means, they’re a kind, gentle soul who wouldn’t hurt a fly. A bit naive, even. This is whumpee’s favorite thing about them, since all whumpee knew up until meeting them was violence and harshness.
One day, Caretaker doesn’t come home, and whumpee goes absolutely feral. Full on super-detective mode tracking them down to whumper’s lair. They break in to find caretaker in a relatively minor situation (say, sitting in a cell with their hands tied but otherwise unharmed). Enter whumper.
Whumpee goes eerily calm, smiles this creepy smile, looks at caretaker and says “I’ve just gotta take care of something quick. Won’t be a minute.” And then proceeds to graphically murder whumper just outside caretaker’s sight. Bonus points if caretaker is completely oblivious because whumpee never explained their past. Caretaker asks about it, insisting that they want all the details. They’re outraged that whumpee killed whumper like that, because from caretaker’s perspective, whumper hadn’t done anything warranting that. Whumpee asks if caretaker is sure they want to know, then explains what whumper did to them in an oddly calm and frank manner and finishes by saying, “You’ve been so kind to me all this time, I had to protect you.”

Prologue - Birth
next
masterlist
Finally going through with my promise to actually write this superhero living weapon whump story. Updates will probably be pretty slow and sporadic as finishing draft 1 of my book is my current priority, but once that's done i'll definitely focus on this during the downtime before editing starts. Also the series itself doesn't have an actual name yet but shhhhh i'm working on it
it's in 1st person pov for the main character as i felt her perspective would be more interesting from that pov. Other character povs will likely be 3rd person when we get to those.
this is just a prologue to get you situated in so it's pretty short but i hope it gets you excited for what's to come! let me know what you think! story begins below the cut.
CWs: Medical whump (technically), female whumpee, non-sexual nudity, confused whumpee, male whumper, blood mention, manipulation of a vulnerable person, living weapon whumpee, mysterious medical procedures, language barrier
The first thing I remember feeling was warm. It was all-encompassing, surrounding and pressing in on me. I was completely weightless, floating around in some infinite black void. Nothing existed but myself and the warmth, gently cradling me, lulling me to sleep. I let it take hold, and sank into the emptiness.
I opened my eyes for the first time, and discovered that the universe was Green. Like the warmth, it was all around me, clinging to my skin, suspending me in itself. There were shadows, flickering about somewhere deeper in, moving back and forth, tempting me. I wanted to go to them, but movement eluded me, and all I could do was reach out, uselessly grasping at the Green. It was then, with my arm stretched out in front of me, that I saw myself for the first time.
My bones were small, and my skin was translucent.
That didn’t seem right.
Something inside of me started thumping quickly. I heard my very first sound; a shrill, high-pitched beep, piercing through the Green in time with the thumping. The shadows began moving quickly. Something was wrong. Something was wrong! I needed to escape! Get out! Get out get out get out get out getoutgetoutgetoutgetout get out get… out…
Calmness washed over me. My eyelids grew heavy. I closed them, shutting out the Green and returning to the dark.
COLD.
The Green was gone, replaced by blinding White. The warmth was a distant memory, torn apart by an all-encompassing cold biting my skin, now opaque as it always should’ve been. My whole body shivered and a terrible pain lit up inside of me, my limbs flailing limply against the hard surface I was pressed up against. I convulsed, and Green spilled out of my mouth, making way in my lungs for my very first breath.
Air rushed in through my throat and filled my chest. It still wasn’t quite enough, though. Another few coughs and it seemed like most of the Green had been expelled, leaving me panting and gasping for more precious oxygen, now that room had been made. It made me feel Awake. It made me feel Alive. It gave me the strength to lift myself to a seated position, curiously interacting with the way this new Universe worked outside of the Green. I was no longer suspended; I had to use my body to move, and to do that, I needed to learn how things worked.
The blurriness in my eyes cleared, and I discovered that the Universe was not entirely White, either. Yes, the White was abundant, but there were exceptions to it, like the things standing around me, observing. They had bodies of a similar shape to mine, with two legs and two arms and a torso and a head, but where my skin was bare and visible, most of theirs was obscured by more White, soft-looking wrappings and covers. They held things in their hands, and were making noises with their mouths, but none of it meant anything to me, so I moved on.
Something unexpectedly touched my shoulder and I spun, sweeping my arm out in alarm. There was a flash of Black and a splattering of Red and suddenly all of the things around me were screaming. I scrambled backwards as best I could, pushing and kicking my limbs off of the slippery floor to move myself away. The things moved away from me as well. That was good. I decided I didn’t like them.
My back hit a wall and I curled up, ready to lash out at any more of the White things with the Black that came out of my arm. It was still there, staining my usually tan skin from my hand to my elbow, with a tendril hanging from my wrist. I focused, and the tendril disappeared into smoke along with the remaining Black. Curious.
Enraptured as I was by my own strange ability to cover my hands in Black, I failed to notice the new figure approaching until they were right in front of me. My first instinct was to fight, to get the strange thing away from me, but when I looked upon them my body was filled with a strange sense of calm. I didn’t know how I knew it, but I knew that above all else, the thing in front of me was safe.
Their pale body was hidden by a blocky, navy blue covering, and their face was covered in wrinkles and divots. They reached out, cradling my cheek with a warm, calloused hand. I leaned into it, filled with an overwhelming feeling of safety. This was where the warmth I was missing was, ever since I left the Green.
The thing was making noises at me. I couldn’t understand them, but they didn’t seem to mind. They put a hand to their chest and repeated a specific noise, over and over. They sounded it slowly, making exaggerated movements with their mouth. Their teeth on their bottom lip; an open exclamation; their tongue between their teeth; and another, slightly less open exclamation. Compelled by my curiosity, I attempted to repeat it.
“Fffff…” I tried. “Fah…” My voice was raspy and weak in its first use. My tongue was thick and unresponsive. The movements of the thing were difficult to replicate, but they were patient as I practised, getting the hang of it. “Fah…ther. Father. Father!”
The thing smiled, and it was the greatest sight of my short existence. At that point I knew that I would do absolutely anything if it meant getting to see that smile directed at me again.

Hope it wasn't too confusing! Obviously the protagonist currently doesn't really know what's going on at all, so I tried to translate that feeling through the prose. It won't usually be like that, so dw if you weren't feeling it. feel free to ask for clarification tho! Happy to answer any questions that don't spoil anything
feel free to reblog ;) it helps a lot!

thoughts on villain whump?
I absolutely love villain whump. When a character has done truly terrible things and thinks they deserve all the hurt and the torment they get, but someone, sometimes even a total stranger, still insists that 'no one deserves this' and tries to help them? Hhhhhhhhhh
Or maybe, even with all of their crimes, the villain doesn't believe they deserve the pain they're put through. They acknowledge their whumper is taking things too far, but what can they do about it? Who would help them?
Villain whump can be hard to write. In my opinion, villain whump should meet at least one of the following criteria:
1. Whumpee is directly antagonistic to the main characters; getting in the way of their goals or deliberately sabotaging or trying to hurt them.
What makes this so good: whumpee struggling with immense guilt brought on by being helped by someone they've hurt in the past; Enemies-to-Friends; conflicting morals/goals; gut-wrenching epiphanies of "what have I done?"; small, whispered "you shouldn't have saved me"s
2. Whumpee is a villain by societal standards: caretaker/other characters wouldn't necessarily be wrong for leaving the villain or turning them in for the sake of their own safety.
What makes this so good: whumpee unable to turn anywhere for help; whumpee actively on the run from police/other law enforcement; despair when the public seems to revel in their pain; actions being misinterpreted even when they try to do the right thing; quiet "why did you save me"s and "don't you realize who I am"s
3. Whumpee's morals are skewed in some way. (ie. they've hurt people for selfish reasons and have no regrets.)
What makes this so good: conflicted caretakers; warring morality; "why would you do that"s and "you should've left me if you know what's good for you"s; complicated recoveries and relationships; insistent "you didn't deserve it"s;
As for my own characters, I don't think I have any whumpees who fit the "innocent victim" mold. I definitely prefer writing characters with complicated pasts, values, and morals, because I enjoy how it colors their perspectives. (Not that there's anything wrong with purely innocent whumpees, and I've definitely seen plenty that I loved as characters, I just don't write many of them)
That being said, Cerus is my only "true villain" whumpee (aka, a character who fits all three of my personal criteria). Technically Uriah counts, but he didn't start out with whumpee intentions sooo

Whump Writing Intro
Whump writing side blog to @bilightningwriter
Generic writing blog is @bilightningwriter-writing
My blog is majority labeled as Mature or 18+. If you're a minor and interact anyway, on your own head be it.
I don't know what's going to happen in the coming years, as I live in the USA (even if I'm in a relatively "safe" state). But I plan on writing as much as I can until I can't anymore. If I stop, it won't be because I wanted to.
Ask box is open, but if you do anything with an ask game or prompts list, please tell me which one because I share a lot that inspire me randomly. Questions about my WIPs are also welcome!
Main writing whump tropes used:
institutional whump (partially inspired by the BBU community)
noncon/ nsfw (majority of my noncon scenes are kept to whumpee's perspective only, not the whumper), more explicit in consensual situations, but I am a descriptive writer regardless
Female/lady whump, as well as male and enby whump
Captive whump
Creepy/intimate whumpers
Torture whump (more mental and emotional than physical but I do write all of these)
Conditioning whump
Nonhuman whump
Lab whump
What I don't write:
gore
main character death (unless it's a whumper)
explicit underage (try not to, anyway; will have warnings if that occurs)
I also write LGBT+ and/or neurodiverse characters. I enjoy happy endings, so hurt/comfort is big for me. Basically a lot of whump eventually followed with a lot of fluff.
{IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of AI scrapers, all of my fics on Ao3 are avaliable to user-readers only. Remember, you can make an account for free on Ao3 (it's not money-subscription based either, it's just free) with your email.}

Works below the cut
[Starting Nov 23rd, 2024, I plan on queuing parts of stories for 5pm EST each Friday/Saturday (Friday if completed in time, Saturday if delayed) to hopefully write at least one piece a week; with the exception of writing events that I join in with]
All characters are LGBT+ and/or neurodiverse unless stated otherwise. If you want to be on a taglist, feel free to dm/pm me or comment on the post, as I don't update on a schedule (just whenever I finish a piece/chapter).
