As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.

Listen I’m not saying that *I* have the balls to buy a reflective vest and go off on a roadside or retention pond somewhere and start fucking around guerrilla gardening

But I am saying that the past week I’ve driven past many MANY people in reflective vests either doing roadwork or maintaining roadside shrubbery or whatever and the amount of times I considered questioning what the fuck they were doing is zero and the amount of times I would’ve even had the TIME to question what the fuck they were doing is zero

I saw groups of people I saw someone solo I didn’t question it I just figured ‘eh they’re doing SOMETHING and carried on. Depending on the location you pick, anyone who WOULD Karen up and interrogate you won’t even have the time space or ability to

By the time Bruce hits fourteen, Leslie has had enough. She storms into Wayne Manor and confronts Alfred while he’s placidly kneading dough in the kitchen.

“You signed Bruce up for more martial arts lessons??” she shrieks. “He needs therapy! This isn’t what Martha and Thomas would want!”

Alfred Pennyworth delicately clears his throat, dusts flour from his palms, reaches into his pocket, and produces a somewhat worn neon sticky note. In Martha Wayne’s loopy cursive is written, If I die, give Bruce a knife and teach him to fight xoxo.

Leslie blinks dumbly at her dead friend’s instruction for a moment, but recovers enough to parry with, “Well what about…”

But she trails off when, still silent, Alfred hands her a yellowed Polaroid. Frozen on film for all time is Thomas Wayne, wearing exactly half a tuxedo, laying on his stomach on a bench in a tattoo parlor. He’s propped on one elbow and he flashes the cameraman a merry thumbs up as the tattoo artist inks “DO WHAT MARTHA SAYS” on his bare ass.

what led you to writing 'we can get them for you wholesale' and did you think it would be short story used in american schools for analysis

I dozed off listening to the radio. When I went to sleep they were talking about wholesaling, and when I woke up they were talking about contract killing, and I thought, that's a story.

I was 23. It was the third fiction story I sold.

I would find it so funny if Bruce Wayne, who has an ironic and slightly ridiculous disdain for the occult, had to grapple with his kids' deep belief in the occult. For instance, if one of their siblings went missing with no leads, Bruce would insist on a new search strategy while the kids would be convinced they should at least consult a medium once to get proof of life. The medium would call out Batman for his shitty energy and Bruce would contemplate all the life decisions that led to this.
