myeah, posting anything other than "wow thing is amazing i love everything about it and want to kiss staff on the mouth with tongue for allowing me to exist in their presence <33333 :)" or "i got an egg" on the forums is just an absolute warzone of passive-aggressive gaslighting hostility, the wildest bad-faith interpretations you can find anywhere, vapidly mindless content, and as much deliberate misunderstanding as you can physically cram into a thing, and even when it's not all that it's still constantly dripping with a plausibly-deniable shaming tone if that you're immoral and ungrateful for having any questions ever or saying literally anything other than that you love everything staff ever do so much you want to personally start a religion, and every single time i look back on there and see the kind of responses that every single post even slightly more complicated than the monthly fae necks gets on that weird culty false-polite hellscape i'm glad i stopped going on there. because hoo boy, if you thought fr tumblr was a toxic mess that thinks everyone wants to piss on the poor it is SO INFINITELY MUCH WORSE on the site. people will do literally any gymnastics to justify why any and every decision the staff ever makes on anything is actually the best possible one and we shouldn't question it and in fact are ungrateful and entitled and arrogant and should feel ashamed for questioning it. literally the single worst den of toxic positivity i've seen anywhere outside of like psych wards and religious organizations.

like i swear, fr onsite is the place where every single person the "how dare you say we piss on the poor" meme is about all personally congregate to exacerbate eachother and like. multiply or something. it's where they breed

and this is coming from me, the person with the tendency to rant about something only barely adjacent to the subject in every reblog and then get distracted with personal anecdotes until i've said the same thing 5 times over and forgot what i was originally talking about

they'll yell at you to give constructive criticism rather than "bashing" but no matter how constructive your criticism and how much apologizing for existing and reaffirming your absolute love and worship for our dear leaders and how they're absolutely superior to you in every way and know best always you cram into your post they'll just give you shit for it anyway. i genuinely don't feel like people on fr proper are actually speaking the same language as wider english anymore. whatever language they're speaking, "constructive criticism" seems to mean "kissing staff's ass". unless you can somehow word your rage in the exact right tone and language, in which case it's unacceptable NOT to scream at them.

like god damn, i distrust the staff as much as the next person who's actually been paying any attention these last 10 years but looking at the community onsite if it weren't for the fact that they deliberately fostered this culture (by slowly pushing out anyone that isn't similarly rabid and unwilling to question), i would say i can almost fucking see how the staff ended up like that.

and god forbid you so much as imply the 'community' could have any issues (other than "those whiny ungrateful complainers that just want to hate everything") in it's culture

Expressing your opinion with demonstrative examples and analysis isn't arrogant just because you used an assertive tone. People really don't know how to handle criticism that isn't couched in half-a-dozen layers of hedging and apology.

yeah, I just frankly don't feel the need to take an "everyone is valid" position to people that are either 1) misunderstanding/skimming over my points and/or 2) making counterpoints I entirely disagree with ("fat characters are less appealing/dynamic"/"animals in the real world generally all look the same, so giving these designs different head or body shapes would be unrealistic and cartoonish"/"all characters look the same when you break them down like this"/etc.) I reserve the right to disagree or correct points like these and think I'm being relatively polite and clear about why.

batgirl 2000 reread pt 2!!!

Back 2 batgirl..Cass has to have some of the worst daddy issues in the whole family and that's saying so much like between Bruce and Cain she deserves billions of dollars in compensation for all the all the way fucked up and over shit they put her through that she doesn't even have the capacity to work through yet

also this little interaction made me smile, average bat conversation

obsessed w how they integrate cass into the Bruce wayne: murderer storyline. We're operating fully from cass's perspective here and the whole thing is formatted like any other case she's taken on. we get exposition as cass investigates but there's a feeling of uneasiness as she paces the manor. she fully doesn't know who this guy is but we do. we do.

truly one of the most iconic ways anyones ever figured out his identity. she knows him so deeply that she's able to recognize the pure unbridled determination and fury in his eyes just from a picture

Cassandra cain truly stays unmatched, the "I'll kill you" "not tonight" panel hits just as hard as when I first read it. I need a physical copy of this shit NEOWWW. also cass's ability to recognize that Shiva is just as suicidal as she is, that in fighting each other their both fulfilling the others death wish..like we know she isn't going to kill her from the start but it makes the decision all the more powerful

THIS^^^^^^ is so, it's such a good way of broadcasting cass's insecurities and emotions to the audience. unlike a lot of characters cass rarely ever says what she's feeling, even when asked she'll often lie. it's either that or a lack of self awareness/means of communication when it comes to her own emotions. BUT this also shows that cass is aware of the complex interpersonal dynamics and drama around her. Usually these things are just implied like when Cass wordlessly punches the shit out of dick for making babs cry, but this is one of the first times in the comic where these things that cass had been feeling and hearing are told instead of shown [which is pretty 50/50 considering the kinda jarring writer switch but I think this specifically was a cool choice]

Cass has a tendency to avoid emotional topics centered around her all together but at the climax of this arc she's forced to confront very conflicting views of her identity, social pressures, and her own insecurities.

this part got to me BAD

Cass's pure and utter devastation in response to Bruce attempting to fire her (I say attempt bcs that shit barely lasted a day) is so gutwrenching. batgirl was the first name she ever had, the first identity as a human being she'd ever had. Not to mention her suicidal-perfectionism. For Batman of all people to say those things to her, not only does she not have anything outside of batgirl (partially BECAUSE of him) but she's literally as close to perfect as it gets, matter a fact bruce literally calls her perfect. To be accused of jeopardizing the mission, despite that she might be the only person who values it just as much as bruce does..No wonder she shatters into a billion pieces when he does that to her. she has nothing else to be if she's not batgirl.

i only rehired the devs becaus half of then were not doing anything at all, and the other half were not being very nice to those who werent doing much! also, one dev was making me extremely uncomfortable. I understand how this could come off this way!! but tbh i made this species as a personal project because of terras shutting down, and it kind of hurts to say its going to turn out like the hellhole that is.

Terras is very complicated in terms of drama right now and i feel as though comparing a species that is just starting out and maybe not the greatest to another one that has repetitively made wrongs, angered many members, etc. is a little unfair!

In response to this post asking about Discord issues.

I love Discord and participate in many FR and non-FR Discord communities, both as a mod and a member. I personally think the common problems with the FR Discord servers tend to boil down to the following 4 points:

All dom and community planning tends to get moved completely to the Discord, killing in-flight forum activity. This makes it really challenging for new users to get involved, as well as cutting out access to anyone who plays FR but doesn't use Discord. For a site like FR that has its own forum board, Discord would probably function better as a supplementary tool rather that the full replacement that many flight leaders have been using it as.

Discord server rules are inconsistent with and often for some reason more restrictive than the actual Flight Rising rules. (i.e. requiring users to spoiler canon-rated content that would not be censored on-site, like specific genes or eye types). When you have one server where you must censor only plague eyes and then another one where you must censor multi-gaze and rosette and then another where you must censor shadow primal and giraffe, it's easier to just go post on the forums rather than remember the specific rules each server has implemented or check every time you post a dragon. Flight Rising is the ONLY community I've ever been part of that so consistently pressures users to censor non-nsfw canon-rated content off-site, and I think many people find this too confusing and stressful to deal with.

In the same vein as above but slightly different, some FR Discord server rules for some reason restrict the Discord users' usage of basic Discord functionality (i.e. no pinging anyone allowed... why?! If a user specifically says in their name "no pings please" then that makes sense, but why ban pinging completely for all users?!?! That's just one specific example though).

The biggest and most important point: Discord servers have admin and mod teams completely separate from Flight Rising and not officially associated with Flight Rising in any way. When 99% of flight dom activity occurs in those servers, those unofficial admins & mods become far more socially powerful than they would be on-site. Often without even intending to, they manage to completely ostracize or straight up blacklist some users from participating, who through the forums might otherwise have contributed a lot. I think this is part of why dom-team-related drama has spiked so much in recent years--when they host all dom conversations on their own pseudo-private server that they control or someone they're friends with controls, dom teams can easily become an unchecked echo chamber who don't realize how much they're chasing potential helpers away. They have their circle of members who all know each other, and it's much more intimidating and sometime impossible to enter that in a private, off-site space than on the site's official public forums.

Don't get me wrong, I love Discord. I spend huge chunks of my daily life hanging out on Discord servers, and most of my closest friends are people from across the world whom I met on that platform. But the way Discord intersects with Flight Rising specifically is a bit weird, and definitely poses a stumbling block for healthy community development imo.

as someone in lightning who has never participated directly in dom nor been on any of the lightning discord servers but has kept a loose orbit of the dramasphere and periodically skims the dom threads to check the schedule and see if anything's being voted on, the fact that consistently for the last 4 or more years every time i see someone in public say anything that even slightly sounds like it could be questioning the leadership on any level get slammed with the same guilt-trippy sounding "in LIGHTNING we're a GOOD dom flight and our leadership is WONDERFUL because you can TAKE THIS ISSUE UP WITH OUR DOM LEADERS DIRECTLY ANDTHEY'LL LISTEN BECAUSE THEY ARE GOOD rather than COMPLAINING ABOUT IT which you would know if you were COMPLAINING IN GOOD FAITH because otherwise you'd have gone through the PROPER channels to contact our LEADERS rather than WHINING IN PUBLIC and i'm going to heavily imply that the issues you raised don't exist and/or are stupid and wrong and based on a fundamentally idiotically wrong understanding of how our flight works" wall of text puts me right the hell off lightning dom as a whole real hard.

even if i had been the sort of person to have an interest in dom battles, that whole thing combined with a lot of other subtle things and the fact that almost everything is on a discord server out of the public eye at this point gives me uncomfortable vibes, and the fact that these copypasta response posts always seem to have this weird unspoken emphasis on the real problem being that it's visible in public gives me, as someone trapped in an abusive family of exactly that type, who's mother has told me this phrase exactly word for word, MASSIVE "there's some things we don't talk about outside this family." vibes.

the fact that literally nothing is really particularly known or spoken about lightning as a flight outside of people being like "uhh spreadsheets" makes me even more nervous of my own flight, because in my experience dramasphere silence like that only means that they're just very good at hiding where the drama is happening. no news is not the same thing as neutral news. no news means the news isn't getting out. there was also that major dom leader guy with a game of thrones name a year or two back who if i remember correctly did something along the lines of enter himself on his own ticket spreadsheet for a dom raffle he was running so that he could draw himself to win prizes, then when someone asked about that he exploded on them about how they're an entitled brat and ranted on about how as dom leaders they work so hard and are entitled to a cut of the prizes of their work? then fucked off to plague where he proceeded to do some other questionable things i don't remember? that was a thing, and that didn't exactly make me feel less weird something not right here vibes from what little contact i had with the lightning dom situation. i just get a huge feeling of guilt tripping from all of the few interactions i've ever seen of the dom scene interacting with anyone who asks questions and i also get the impression of this heavy unspoken frowning upon anyone speaking about anything going on in-flight outside it.

unfortunately if it turns out there is weird shit going on, or if this spirals into  drama topic whether or not there is, given the fact that up until this point there has been literally nothing on lightning in the collective consciousness of fr up until this point beyond "idk spreadsheet probably" and the fact that right now the popular attitude of 90% of the userbase seems to be that all plague users are problematic rude edgelords and entitled whiny babies because they complain about getting shafted on their aesthetic (and the fact that the site artists are very blatantly going out of their way to exclude the damn color RED) and because the very act of being into such a non-wholesome aesthetic in the first place is apparently enough to make one inherently suspect, this will most likely result in lightning members as a whole coming to be viewed in popular consciousness as inherently problematic, corrupt, suspect, drama-causers, and untrustworthy. after all, there won't be any other preconceived notions on us there for people's brains to gravitate to automatically when they think of us. if my bad vibes feelings turn out to be not unfounded after all i'm going to be completely fucked by association because people on flight rising, even if they won't admit it, are horrifyingly steeped in category-based prejudices towards eachother and ESPECIALLY towards anyone who happens to have anything to do on any level with a flight that's been deemed a "drama" one. just cause they won't say it to your face on-site doesn't mean they don't think it and pass judgements based on it. and lightning if it does turn out to be corrupt will be especially fucked because we have nothing else going for us in the case that we end up being deemed one of the shitty drama flights where all the stupid entitled whiny baby untrustworthy asshole bad people are and everyone there is an problematic whiny scambitch they all suck and their flight sucks too and is probably conceptually problematic or offensive against a real life group or something inherently as a concept too and therefore everyone in it is cosigning causing people epileptic seizures because thrage was a dick about that and blah blah blah because i know damn well how these toxic-ass circles of tumblr that scream 24/7 about what a sweet welcoming wholesome community not like those horrible toxic communities outside they are run.

this whole situation is a mess of uncomfortable ambiguity, guilt tripping, and certain bad times ahead if anyone's suspicions turn out to be even slightly shy of totally unfounded, which i'm not inclined to find likely because insert that phrase about how if something presents itself as too good to be true here. flight rising as a community is already dreadfully susceptible to the worst kinds of aggressive isolationist cult mentality, and the guilt tripping every time i see someone ask questions in public thing has been setting off my warning bells for years. people already almost universally dislike lightning in general just for it's aesthetic and lore, and the kind of tumblr people fr is populated by are very much the type to jump on any chance to rationalize and justify their personal distaste of a fictional thing as a morality thing that allows them to condemn people morally over association with it and thus eradicate the disliked thing's presence and stop people being allowed to like the thing they don't like.

AAAA DJKAID OKAY TIME TO R A N T ABOUT MY MAN

(SPOILER WARNING FOR BOTH 2003 AND BROTHERHOOD)

Why I like them:

Okay so....where to begin. Most important to me, I think, is that Scar is not a very common character. So many pieces of media focusing on war and genocide focus on the bad effects on the agents of it, but rarely on the (largely brown) victims, and never in a way that vindicates them. The FMA adaptations vary in the ways they handle Scar, but all of them give you the general idea that Scar has a definite right to feel this wrathful. Scar's arc isn't really about forgiving his oppressors by any means- he still fucking hates them at the end of both series, and for good reason. But he learns to direct his trauma and experiences into something that is more constructive for himself and for his community (in Brotherhood). This is shown in like the brilliant visual motif of him getting the deconstruction tattoo during the most traumatic and violent part of his life, but then gaining the reconstruction tattoo over the course of Brotherhood. In 03, despite the fact that he dies, I still like how he went out and how the show didn't really villainize him. He just has a lot of agency, and I like that.

What else, what else. His design is just fucking cool. His outfit rocks, he has white hair and red eyes, he's brown, he's a warrior priest, he's distinctly ~ Muslamic ~, he's cool as FUCK. He canonically likes cute animals and just adopts this little foreign princess for the hell of it. He's just COOL. Also he says some of the most absolutely metal lines in the series.

In short, Scar is really fucking cool, visually and narratively, and I have yet to find a character of color treated with his nuance in media.

Why I don't:

I can't really find a lot of answers to this tbh... I maybe find it hard that he was kinda chummy with General Armstrong at the end of Brotherhood? idk, he's cool as fuck, I love him.

Favorite episode:

The one where its his final fight against Wrath/Fuhrer Bradley, in Brotherhood. Like.........what a culmination. What a FINALE. First of all, the sheer brilliance of Scar, a dude whose entire motivation at the beginning was just wrath and revenge, fighting the literal PERSONIFICATION OF WRATH, thereby being a VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF HIS CHOICE TO MOVE BEYOND WRATH AND TO BECOME TRUE JUSTICE, just. WOWS me every time. It's also like a really fucking epic fight? And just....the way the show VINDICATES scar's beliefs because scar, in doing alchemy, is going against the teachings of ishvala, and Bradley mocks it, right? WELL, we pretty much get the implication that while BRADLEY is the personification of AMESTRIS' wrath, SCAR is the wrath of ISHVALA. SCAR IS ISHVALA. And he only STARTS BEING THAT when he stops convincing himself that he acts for Ishvala- he acts for his people. And it's just a wonderful callback to this scene where Bradley had mocked the Ishvallan leader with words a la "where is your god now? where is his wrath?" and then LIKE. THERE HE IS DUDE HE JUST FUCKING K I L L E D YOU

Ugh, the brilliance.

Also of course it goes without saying that it was very cathartic to see Scar be the one to kill the person who directly ordered his people's genocide in the first place.

Favorite season/movie:

I'm gonna interpret this as whether I like him more in 2003 or Brotherhood, and to be honest: I can't tell you. I like both Scars a lot.

Also, he and Mei keep in touch. They send letters and occasionally visit. She shares all the gossip with him so he has dirt on every single person of importance in Xing and Amestris. He pretends he doesn't care about the drama, but he's intrigued.

oh hi anon! i haven’t actually answered this ahahha all day i only answered when people told me their faves and never counted mine. this might take a long time to answer because i have to think and reply so long so sorry for replying late in advance...

eva:

favourite is lisa. she just started the whole thing and she was so real and authentic in her portrayal like everything she did felt so fitting with eva nothing less and nothing more. i would give a special shoutout to ludovica just cause she is my fave eva and i think she added a good comedic acting and edge to her character.

least fave might be alba not because she did so bad but because i didn’t connect with her character much. idk either the acting or the writing didn’t resonate with me she felt a little too plain. but maybe i need to do a rewatch. and anyway she grew on me.

noora:

favourite is nicole. she showed us how much nora faded away and a hollow ghost of her came forward throughout her seasons. the change in nore is apparent even in her posture, her tone.

least fave benedetta. kinda ironic because skamit is one of my top 2 remakes but yeah she didn’t work on me at all in s3. i didn’t buy most of her scenes which is a shame because she was good in s1 and she had good chemistry with the edoardo actor.

isak:

favourite is tarjei, definitely. there was something about his portrayal that made me feel like watching a documentary and no remake reached that level. he was so nuanced and a lot of his emotions were in the little mimics, looks and gestures. axel and michi are a close seconds.

i can’t choose a least fave here. i mean i like all the isaks in their own way. i don’t think any of them were like bad. i wish we got to see florian too. or or if we are counting lucas rubio is a isak remake then alejandro isn’t good as the extra clips show...sorry.

favourite is tua. she had the heart eyes for mohammed, she had such easy chemistry with him. but then she played amira’s anger and her pain and her pain through her anger in the henna party and the break up with mohammed so well.

least fave ugh maybe assa? this probably has more to do with the writing then her acting but idk there was something there that didn’t communicate her relationship with sofiane or her anger to me.

favourite anselm. i literally spent the day praising him...the thing is while michi and lilly are easing into their roles in s1 anselm already seems to portray jonas so well. like he is so relaxed and natural in his role. and then he added a ton to jonas with his softness and his funny side. kudos to the breakup with hanna + coming out scene. with ludovico as a close second because he made giovanni his own too.

least favourite nathan bouts. i swear this has less to do with writing and more with acting. i find him similar to reiky’s jonas and while reiky communicated the loveable asshole vibes to me nathan didn’t. maybe he had better material to play with in s3 it would be different.

william:

favourite is nathan. i might like alejandro's william more as a character but nathan did the best with the not much changed storyline. he literally took the william we saw in og and added so much dimension like the softness with zoe, his voice when he is defending his views, his anger towards his brother chef’s kiss. chris veres is the close second here i mean even his comedic delivery is everything.

least favourite thomas. while trying to have him be this cold, popular guy i think he didn’t actually played well mostly just stood there with no expression. and that’s just no.

even:

favourite is henrik. really shows his power how no one was able to top him yet. i think in praising tarjei we forgot him but like i talked about all day THE LOCKER ROOM SCENE and how much he communicated with his eyes yup.

least favourite maxence. like i said he started bothering me on the rewatches and i realized they relied too much to his looks and natural charm of the actor. i might be biased here about rocco’s acting because i like nicco and marti and nicco so he is not my least fav.

yousef:

favourite is hassan who plays mohammed. maybe it’s because he had more heated arguments with amira about religion and their ‘breakup’ was more painful so i liked his portrayal much more. he just put something into the character like he defended his beliefs with as much fierce as amira.

least fave is lucas nabor who plays dani because spoiler! dani is yousef in skamesp. i will give him the benefit of the doubt maybe by the end of the season i could like his acting more and he does have good heart eyes but right now i don’t vibe with his acting much.

vilde:

favourite is lula. suffered through s6 for her acting’s sake (and for flavie’s) and she is just so good. the pain is in her eyes throughout s6, her breakup with basile was so heartbreaking. but also in earlier seasons she got daphne’s energetic and naive self so well.

least fave is nona who plays amber. idk i don’t vibe with amber and since wtfock cast put a lot into the characters even when writing is bad i think it’s more of her acting issue. it feels like there isn’t anything to her character and amber feels so one dimensional.

chris berg:

(not counting irene here) ah i would say fave is coline. i think she is the chris character that got the most material to play with (maybe why she is my fave) and she did the best out of it. but her scenes in s5 especially the one where she opens up is so nice i could read her emotions on her face.

least fave is nonexistent? i mean most of the time the chris character doesn’t get stuff to act with so like i cannot really judge the actors much when i haven’t seen much from them. and i just vibe with all chris versions.

fave is robin. s5 of skam fr might have gone downhill but robin had a really good performance that only got better throughout the season. especially the ending of the first ep where he looks over the street with his hearing faded away just the look in his eyes wow. honorable mention arda because his little improv lines with louis is amazing. he steals the backgroudn.

least fave again nonexistent because aside from robin and maybe francesco they didn’t get stuff to play with. i mean how can i judge dilan’s actor’s ability?

magnus:

fave is paul. his comedic timing is everything!! and most of that is improv so additional kudos. the way he stole a lot of background moments in s3!!! and s5 and s6 showed how well he could do drama too. when arthur tells him about his hearing the way his face crumbles - wow.

again no least fave because they don’t get material. like i may not like aaron as a character but i cannot say the actor does a bad job when he has to play one side of a character.

so for me it's both a subjective & an objective problem bc i'm not a very romantic person myself, i prefer domesticity & that type of private relationship n i can't stand public romantic gestures or love songs & flowers n that type of grandiose romance which is p much what france's romantic plots heavily rely on. which is fine! but it definitely has a negative effect on my personal enjoyment of the couples

the more objective reasoning is that the writing is often very shallow when it comes to the relationship or the relationship is compromised for the sake of drama w/o any proper resolution/communication which just kinda ruins the dynamic. it's usually stuff like - Couple in love -> conflict -> terrible communication -> let's have the couple make up w/o actually talking abt the roots of the original conflict - all that kinda makes the couples feel "empty" n just badly written. also often when the couple is in the background of a season they're Very diluted n the relationship AND the characters r kinda stripped down to fan service bc all we see is either pure lovey dovey happiness or dramatic conflict, there's no visible middle ground where the couple just exists as individuals who happen to be in a complex but loving relationship. sometimes they've managed that better for example w daphné who had much more to offer than her relationship w basile in s6.

but since u also listed some couples i can do a more specific reasoning for main couples!

emma & yann, agreed the joneva couple is a quite toxic one + i didn't rly get invested in the first season anyway bc it felt like a copy paste from the og so that kinda ruined the couple as well

manon & Charles yes agreed again it's just abusive

daphné & basile surprisingly objectively v well written but i just don't like basile i know he grew as a person but i just can't get behind the basile hype, personally slfjkd

eliott & lucas i just don't rly vibe with. they're the biggest victims of the above mentioned subjective & objective reasons.. i did find them good in the 3rd season n i definitely see why ppl like them but ever since they fell into the background it's "meh" at best n "why r they even together anymore" at worst for me... the writing was so attention grabbing (in s6) n fan servicy (in s4 & 5) in my opinion that it felt more like a fan fiction couple than a tv show couple. (not to mention eliott's almost nonexistent life outside his relationship) just my two cents tho!

sofimane i mentioned in the tags already they were rly nice but the writing of s4 just kinda made it a huge "Why?" for me. loved seeing them interact in s5 tho i don't think any (?) yousanas have gotten the chance to appear as an established couple before

Team Rwby was god awful in episodes 11-12. It was annoying at first but now its just infuriating how rwby thinks theyre always right with their uwu energy and think they can do whatever tf they want with ZERO CONSEQUENCES.

Basically any time there is a problem in this show they have Ruby uwu at it and its solved lol.

Ruby’s “you were the best, until you trained us :3” -for maybe 2 days before my team went dancing ruby sis shut right tf up pls my god is this line just so. UNEARNED. Training in a room for a short while does not simply grant you the years of field experience the ace ops have and whAT IS UP WITH HER TRYING TO REASON WITH HARIETT AFTER SAYING THAT COCKY LINE AND FIGHTING HER??? WHAT and also like. The entire idea of “the ops lost cuz they weren’t good friends and were bad at teamwork uwu” is just so dumb. Ur telling me this group of high ranking hunstmen who’ve most likely been working together for at least a few years didnt have teamwork down??? Learning to work together is the most BASIC concept for a team to learn!! Its like the first thing a team has to perfect!! If the ace ops are supposed to be the best of atlas you dont think the ops would have gotten something as fundemental as teamwork down?? I dont buy it. And who gives a shit if they dont hang out after work or take selfies with eachother. Being friends doesnt necessarily mean theyre great at working together. If they succeed at relying on eachother to watch their backs, to keep each other alive (in the words of hariett herself) then Id think theyd know how to protect eachother i.e WORK TOGETHER.

And for all the ✨friendship✨ and ✨going through so much with someone✨ talk rwby like to do, the show barely displays these people acting like friends. We’re constantly TOLD how great of friends this group is, but the actual CONTENT we are shown leaves a lot to be desired. Tell me the last time ruby and blake teamed up in a fight. Or weiss and blake. Or yang and weiss. What teamwork?? Yang only interacts with blake now and weiss is only ever allowed to interact with ruby. Has blake ever said nora or ren’s name out loud? Have jaune and yang ever held a conversation between just them? Team rwby just spent a GOOD DEAL of time seperated from eachother, but when they reunite their teamwork is still somehow better than the ace ops?? Honestly its easier to believe that ruby is closer with team jnpr than she is her own team. If they showed the ops messing up during rwby vs ace ops fight due to lack of communication, then it still doesnt matter. My point is that they shouldnt have lacked teamwork in the first place.

His death scene was emotional and I feel bad for Qrow but u literally sealed his death when u ganged on him with tyrian so why are you even surprised. And on the subject of fairgame, im glad it didnt happen. Qrow was in no state for romance and I was glad he finally had a friend. He just spent the last volume thinking he wasted his life away helping oz, drowning in misery, drinking til he passed out on the street and so drunk he couldnt even be of any help during the apathy situation, when up til now hes been shown to fight just fine while drunk. I don’t see this as a “bury your gays trope” because clover was never confirmed to be gay and all their scenes added up to 40 seconds of platonic friendship. These two are grown ass men, if they had the hots for eachother then im pretty sure they could openly show it and not dance around it like theyre kids. I do feel bad for mlm viewers who were hoping for some rep with fairgame/lucky charms (cuz rt only cares if ur a cute marketable lesbian) but idc for the overly entitled fans who try to force their own headcanons on the writers and go feral when they dont get what they want. You dont just get to prance around claiming whats canon and what isnt. If rep is there then great, but if it isnt, then why not look somehwere else and let the author tell the story theyre trying to tell? Shipping fairgame cuz you think its cute is absolutely fine but not when u start getting ready to casterate crwby for not catering to you. Also, rwby sucks with lgbt+ rep anyway so what were yall expecting.

The only thing that was great this episode was the chorerography. It just sucks that the animation/choreo continues to improve while the writing doesnt. Another thing that really fell off this episode was the whole “we’re friends but we have to fight” drama. It doesnt work when its only ONE SIDE SHOWING ANY DISTRESS OVER IT. Only the ace ops (marrow, clover, the vine dude) seemed to show distress over having to fight rwby (it sucks that the only 1v1 weiss has won was because marrow was going EASY on her cuz he didnt wanna fight her fr) but rwby???? They didnt give any shits. They were so quick to turn against them and aim for their heads. They were SMILING as they ran at the ace ops, while they looked conflicted. If you oppose their UwU philosophy, you’re dead to them.

I really wanna enjoy RWBY but sometimes this show (and the fndm) really tests me. Its ironic how this episode came right after last episode, which I thought was the best chapter this volume. Anyway I rate this 10/10 cuz it gave me best character ironwood and best boi marrow and I would like to give them hugs for carrying this volume on their backs. (Also tyrian and penny and winter have been great too)

An Unusual Christmas (By Fr. Jeremiah Shryock, CFR)

           “Your father is recovering well,” the doctor assured us.  “He should be ready for a visit in a few minutes.”  

           My sister and I breathed a sigh of relief.  Even though it was a routine heart procedure, our father’s declining health left both of us a bit nervous.  “Thank God”, I whispered to myself, realizing that I was perhaps more nervous than I expected.  I picked up a magazine that was on the table next to me as my sister began to notify her friends on Facebook that the procedure went well and thanked everyone for their prayers.  

           A few minutes later a voice came over the intercom.  “Code blue, code blue, all available doctors report to the cardiac care unit immediately.”

Alarms began to ring and within seconds a sea of doctors came flooding through the doors that led to the cardiac unit where my father was. A few seconds later, my sister and I turned to each other in panic.  “Oh no,” we both said, “that’s dad!”

Shortly after my father’s procedure, while the doctors were speaking with him, his face turned blue and his heart stopped.  Thankfully, the doctors were able to resuscitate him and bring him back to life quickly, as my sister and I watched in horror. Apparently my father’s lungs filled with fluid, not due to the heart procedure itself, but from the aesthesia and the amount of time he spent lying on his stomach.    

A week later, on Christmas Eve, my father finally left the hospital.  By the time we got him home, my sister and I were relieved.  Despite an exhausting week we were grateful, not only that our dad was alive, but that he was home and able to celebrate Christmas with us.  As I unpacked his belongings my father sat in the living room, staring out the window.  

“Jeremiah,” my dad said.

“Yes dad.”

“Are we going to have Mass tonight,” he asked?

I froze after hearing his question.  Why tonight I thought?  When I am at home I usually celebrate Mass in the morning.  Suddenly I realized why he was asking if I was going to celebrate Mass this particular evening.  It was Christmas Eve!  Amidst all the panic and confusion of the past week, I lost track of time and forgot what day it was.

“Oh yeah, of course” I said.  “What time?”

“How about 8 pm?  I need to rest here for awhile.”

“Ok, that sounds good.”

After I uttered these words a touch of sadness enveloped my heart. One of the gifts of living in a religious community is the shared celebration of certain holy days, Christmas being high on that list.  During these celebrations I am surrounded by people who, though different in age and life experience, both love and care for me in a way that is, for lack of a better word, familial.  Along with the fraternal support of brothers and sisters in the faith, the celebration of these holy days includes beautiful music, a reverent liturgy and an engaging homily that naturally lifts one’s mind and heart to higher things.  This year, however, my Christmas celebration was going to be very different than what I had become accustomed to.

My father lives alone in a simple two-bedroom trailer.  When I was ordained a priest several years ago, we converted his other bedroom into a chapel, so that when I come home I have a place to celebrate Mass and pray.  This Christmas Eve, rather than celebrating Mass with my community, this humble spare bedroom that can only fit four to five people comfortably, became my church.  With me, my dad, sister, brother-in-law and my two nephews in attendance, we were at full capacity.    

Once my family was gathered for Mass there was no beautiful music sung and no engaging homily given.  My father was too tired to utter any of the Mass parts, and my sister and her family tried their best to fill in for the congregation.  When it came time for me to read the Gospel, I was deeply moved by these words:  “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord has said through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us” (Mt 1:22-23).  

After I read those words, I looked at my dad, standing with the support of a cane, his face still wearing the shock of all he went through. The words “God is with us” were ringing in my heart.  Suddenly, in this small trailer, without any of the usual bells and whistles, I felt myself being led to a deeper experience of Christmas than I ever had before.    

When we gaze upon a Nativity scene, we can often forget the mysterious and confusing background that preceded this divine moment.  Nine months earlier, when Mary is visited by the angel Gabriel, she is “greatly troubled” (Lk 1:29) and must be told by the angel “Do not be afraid Mary” (Lk 1:30).  Despite the dizzying and overwhelming nature of such an encounter, Mary says yes to God, without ever being given a detailed account of how this mystery will unfold. Joseph himself, once he discovers that Mary is pregnant, is understandably confused, and decides to divorce her.  In fact, his confusion is so reasonable that an angel must appear to him to reveal the cause of this event: “Do not fear to take Mary as your wife for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit” (Mt. 1:20-21).

Joseph and Mary must allow themselves to be led by God. Even though they are both major figures in the drama of salvation history, God only reveals to them what is necessary to make the next step of faith.  They cannot see into the future nor can they trust in things like wealth or status to protect them.  Their hope is in God and their only strength is their faith, which ironically, will not only enable shepherds to glorify God, but will also enable the Magi, the wise men from the east, to discover the true wisdom they had been seeking their entire life.  

As I stood in our little chapel that Christmas Eve and spent a few moments of silence reflecting on the Gospel, I felt a special kinship to Joseph and Mary.  Like them, I didn’t know where God was leading me, and like them, the birth of Jesus Christ not only gave me hope and consolation in the present moment, but it reminded me of a truth so great, that something even as cruel as even death cannot take away: “God is with us.”  

Many people, including myself at times, are often perplexed before the enormous amount of pain and suffering in our world.  “Why doesn’t God do something?” we often ask. “Why is God silent?”  God’s answer to our perplexity is much deeper that merely taking away our pain and suffering.  God does what is, quite honestly, utterly inconceivable:  he becomes one of us.  He does this by entering our world, not as a vengeful ruler or an angry judge, but as a defenseless and needy baby.  St. John states it in these theological terms: “the Word became flesh” (Jn 1:14).    

As we finished the Mass that night, my sister and I helped my dad get ready for bed.  After kissing him goodnight, I felt my heart and my mind finally begin to relax.  Oddly enough, I felt a deep peace about not knowing exactly what will happen with my father.  Rather than entertain all the possible things that could now go wrong with his health, I reminded myself once again that in the birth of Jesus Christ we are given an eternal pledge that God is with us.  That’s the best Christmas gift we could ever receive and the only one we really need.

So this is about a group who has taken liberties to excluse, harass, bully and slander people for the rest of the community. Lately something about this group has come to light (blatant aphobia) and I was asked to make a masterpost about some of the other things they have done.

Ok so y’all probably know Ursus (Clan-fuildarach and Sunbeam-Ursus), Blaise (Ophiotaurusfr and kaidonsfwsky) and Anemia (anemia-fr) from their aphobia by now, and if you didn’t, here’s a refresher:

All of these posts made in reference to this anon, who pointed out that any -sexual word refers to sex, not gender. Except for the last screenshot, which is Blaise’s old url reblogging a post saying to not reblog if “you think cishet aces are LGBT”.

After this came to light and I posted about it, several people have come forward about their experiences with these people, sending me screenshots and information about how they treat others. Some stories really shocked me, and I said I’d bring them to light because the people who were bullied didn’t dare to. 

Ever since I said I would, their friend group has become more and more agitated (strange, considering they keep saying they never did anything wrong, so why are they this nervous?), and now one of them (Blaise) has started writing creepy sexual messages about me.

After I made a post about this, saying this made me incredibly uncomfortable because I have dealt with sexual intimidation and abuse before, Blaise followed that up with some namedrops on his blog about how much of a toddler I am, and some more sexual intimidation. How the hell you can first call someone a toddler and then follow up with more sexual harassment after reading how they’re a victim of sexual abuse is above me, to be honest.

So, in case that’s not enough for people to avoid this group, here are some experiences from other people with being bullied/excluded by them. This is just one story, but others will be linked at the bottom of this post.

One of the people who came up to me was CityofInoue. Some of you may remember this, but their friend (Oberion or 0berion-fr) was selling a gijinka with lore who fell into the “trap” trope, and she received some shit for it, after which a lot of drama happened, because they were attacked from one side saying it was transphobic, but also defended by nb/trans people saying it wasn’t transphobic. Oberion themselves apologized for treating a touchy subject like this carelessly. 

In the end, the dragon with the trap art was put for sale by Oberion, who was now suicidal because of all the hate she got, and then bought by a trans person in order to keep people from spite-exalting it. Apparently, while not being part of the original incident, the vagueblogging crew weren’t satisfied with Oberion’s apology.

Ken (CityofInoue) said Oberion may have hurt people, but apologized and that she did not deserve the hate she got, which landed Ken a spot on the hate list with the Vagueblogging Crew. Several things happened after this.

Ken, who is genderfluid themselves, was accused of being a transphobe defender and apparently a pedophile apologist (??? this was completely random) by Pastel, aka Sweet-Puff, who, despite Ken’s friend being suicidal at this point and having apologized several times, still disregards her “fweelings”

After this, their group of friends started looking for reasons to hating Ken, all because Ken felt like their friend didn’t deserve all the hate for a mistake she made and apologized for. Ken received hate for several things after this:

Ken had previously gotten one of Diveremblem’s lore kids. The kid was from a mom who looked Indian and dad who looked a bit paler, and Ken tried to do something in between their skin colors. Ken themselves said this wasn’t great, they didn’t quite get the skin right and tried to sell the art to redo it. Pastel (Sweet-puff) contacted Ken, saying that if they didn’t want their dragon, Diver would take it back. No idea why Diver himself wasn’t around to say that, but y’know. Ken said they didn’t wanna send him back, as they still wanted to do stuff with the dragon. This was followed up by this post by Pastel:

Pastel and Blaise are blaming Ken for wanting to keep a lore dragon because Ken “doesnt do enough with them” and Pastel brings up whitewashing. Pastel could’ve confronted Ken about the whitewashing in the message where she told Ken to send the dragon back to Diver if they didn’t want him, as that message was prompted by the dragon’s art being for sale anyway. They ONLY started to complain about whitewashing after Ken refused to send their dragon back. After all this, Ken decided to exalt the dragon to be done with the drama.

Afterwards, the entire group went on to show how they have absolutely zero fucking concept of “this dragon isn’t yours anymore” and that this is their reaction to someone saying their friend didn’t deserve hate for a mistake, and then refusing to give back a dragon that is rightfully theirs:

Ursus desperately trying to make this about the Ace discourse again, calling Ken a “dumb fujoshi bitch” for not wanting their friend to get hate for a mistake they apologized for and for not giving back a dragon to its previous owner

PART ONE

Please tell us how was your release event on December, 2nd.

Taeseon: It was the first time that we come to Japan, and actually meet our Japanese fans in person. To begin with, our Japanese fans spoke Korean very well, it really surprised me at first. Then, their reaction to us itself was huge, made me surprised once again.

This is our first time to meet. Please tell us your hobbies and special skills.

Taeseon: My hobby is reading fan letters. Recently though, I’ve been more into listening to Japanese music. We actually have been practicing to sing Ken Hirai’s and SMAP’s songs.

*Taeseon and Jihun start singing Acapella version of “Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana” by SMAP*

Hohyeon: My special skill is writing lyrics. Both me and Jisung took part in writing lyrics for our debut album.

Jihun: My hobby is riding a bicycle. My special skills are acting and playing violin. The first time I held a violin was when I was 5 years old. I started taking it seriously afterwards because I was part of the orchestra during elementary school. And fr acting, I started appearing in dramas as a child actor when I was 12 years old.

Jisung: My hobby is watching movies. I love reading books as well. My special skill is rapping, and actually I was in charge of writing the rap parts for our songs, each single one of then.

Kangmin: (Speaking Japanese) My hobby is riding a bicycle. My special skill is singing.

Hyunwoo: I think my special skill is arm wrestling, I’m also the strongest one in it among our members. Besides, I don’t really practice it but… I like watching Boxing matches.

Hakmin: I’m interested in fashion. A few days ago, my parents had their birthdays, I’ve brought them 2 coats as a present.

Siwoo: My hobby is watching Anime. I like watching Japanese Anime too, like Naruto and Bleach. My special skill is speaking Russian. I’ve lived in Kyrgyzstan for 7 years. To be honest, I’ve forgotten so many words over time, but if I have to choose a special skill, this will do lol.

Wooyeop: I don’t have a lot of time these days, but I think my hobby is watching dramas. Actually, I love to go fishing in the sea. I’d love to do it if I had the time. My special skill is Taekwondo.

Hayoung: My hobby is a special skill at the same time. It is playing football. I’ve loved it ever since I started playing it when I was 5 years old, and I kept playing it because I have a strong wellbeing.

This is your first time coming to Japan, but is there any places that wanted to go to here in Japan?

Siwoo: I wanted to check out Japanese game centers.

Wooyeop: I wanted to go to Disneyland!

Hyunwoo: Onsens. We want to go there all 10 members together.

Jihun: When I was in high school, I had a Japanese friend who lives in Nagoya right now. So I’d love to go to Nagoya once because I’m interested to see what kind of place is it.

What are your impressions of Tokyo?

Jihun: Although it’s kind of similar to Seoul, I feel like it’s clean everywhere, and there’s a beautiful scenery whenever you look. And the way the cityscape was created; I felt that it looked more like a miniature.

Hyunwoo: I’ve watched Tokyo’s cityscape before on TV, but when I saw it with my own eyes now, it was really impressive. It would be lovely to go on a walk with my members because the cityscape atmosphere is very nice.

You have made your debut in Korea back in October. Please tell us what kind of lessons have you had before then.

Taeseon: The member with the longest trainee period is Jisung.

Jisung: It was for 6 to 7 years. Right now I’m 18 years old (Korean age), which means I became a trainee when I was in elementary school. When my debut was decided, I couldn’t believe it at all, it was like a dream. Even after I debuted, I still say “This is not a dream?!!” I couldn’t realize it.

Which members have had the shortest trainee period?

Hohyeon: Siwoo and Wooyeop. It was for about a year.

How did you feel about being able to debut in one year?

Wooyeop: Honestly, being in the same group as other members who have been trainees much longer than I have, made me feel like I was still lacking. Therefore, I thought to myself that I should put all my efforts in it.

But! At yesterday’s event, you were chosen to be the best one at dancing and you were named the “Dance Champion.” Have you been to a dance school before you become a trainee?

Wooyeop: My mother is originally a professional dancer, and there were also times where she was the leader of her dance troupe. So, that’s how I happened to learn dancing too. I really liked it so I started learning it by myself, then I set a goal to be an idol.

Additionally, it was decided for you all to enter the Japanese industry at the same time, what were your thoughts then?

Taeseon: We were like “Whaaaat!!” Lol. We were really surprised, we couldn’t believe it.

Your activities after your debut must be impressive, but was there any even in specific that left a big impact?

Siwoo: Yesterday’s high touch event left a huge impact on me.

Taeseon: Some fans came to see us while they were crying.

Jihun: I guess that left a huge impact on all of us. There were indeed many fans who were crying. I heard that Japanese fans are usually more adult-like than the Korean fans, but at yesterday’s event, I realized it was the opposite. They were cheering on us very loudly, they seemed to be so excited. Although I felt grateful, I was still surprised, it was amazing; beyond our expectations.

What should we look forward to while listening to Don’t Stop The Dancing?

Hayoung: The repetitive and addictive melody. There are also some lines that continuously get repeated so it makes you hum the song naturally. It’s a song that anyone can sing along with it right away, so please sing it with us during performances.

How was it like to record a song in Japanese?

Kangmin: It was difficult because there is a big difference between Japanese and Korean pronunciation, but anyhow, that was something that we needed to overcome so we studied harder. The English lyrics were difficult as well. It took me a while to master the way of pronunciation. To be honest, when I pronounce the words, I muffle my voice; I almost sound as if I killed my voice itself, and even though I do say the words, there is barely any sound that comes out. (I don’t know if anyone understands this because I don’t know what Kangmin means.)

For those who are in charge of rap, was rapping in Japanese hard?

Hohyeon: It was! But still, I had to practice it a lot, and we also had some people who guided us through our Japanese, so we were able to record it flawlessly.

What are your goals and dreams for your activities in Japan?

Siwoo: I want us to take 1st place on the oricon charts and I want us to perform in a fully seated Tokyo Dome.

Tokyo Dome has 50,000 seats.

Hyunwoo: We want to achieve that for sure!

PART TWO

Alright. Now we would like to play a Pointing Feeling Game with you. I will ask “Who is the best at X” and you are going to point at them. First, who is the best one at Japanese?

Kangmin, how do you study Japanese?

Kangmin: I don’t think it’s much different from the other members, but maybe because I like to study from books. At yesterday's handshake event, I got to interact with our Japanese fans using Japanese. I think that we should be communicating with them in a way that we understand each other.

Alright. Who is the most member who can’t stand being lonely?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Hayoung!! Siwoo!! (They were both chosen)

Why do you think that Siwoo can’t stand being alone?

Jihun: He really hates being alone or going somewhere all alone.

Siwoo: Ever since I was young, I’ve always felt the need to be with someone. Since I’ve always had someone around me, that way I wouldn’t have to go home alone.

Member: How cute!

Who do you share your room with, Siwoo?

Siwoo: I share the same room with Hayoung, Jisung, and Hyunwoo.

Hayoung: Even when we should be sleeping, he will never stop talking to us.

Both Siwoo and Hayoung don’t like being lonely, yet, they share the same room.

Hayoung: I might be a person who dislike being alone, but I’m of a different type from Siwoo. For instance, if Siwoo was all by himself, he will start feeling lonely. But for me, if I had nobody by my side, I will start feeling lonely. That’s the difference. I’ve been doing exercise for quite a long time, so I knew exactly the importance of teamwork ever since I was young. I’d always shout “Guys! Let’s do it all together!” I have the skills to gather people around lol.

Who has the most secrets?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Siwoo! Wooyeop! (Both were chosen)

Taeseon: About Wooyeop, there are many things that I’ve heard about him later on.

Wooyeop: Actually I… get shy around strangers.

Everyone: Are you still shy around us after 1.5 years?!

Wooyeop: I’m only a little shy now, and to be honest, I still feel awkward around some members too.

Everyone: Whaat?!!

Jihun: Like he doesn’t normally express his true opinions. So since he doesn’t express his opinions, he doesn’t easily show his angry side.

Wooyeop: Yeah, it’s a misunderstanding.

On the other hand, which member’s emotions quickly appear on his face?

Taeseon: That means when the person is happy, he will show a very happy face.

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Hayoung!

Hyunwoo: If I looked at him for one moment, I can tell what he’s exactly feeling like. And whenever Hayoung’s tension goes up, he always transmits it to us lol.

Does that make him the noisiest member?

Everyone: He’s the noisiest!!

Who is the member who eats the most?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3 Hyunwoo!

Hyunwoo: I eat about 5 meals a day. I’m guessing my stomach is bigger than average people lol. If we are having grilled meat, I usually have 3 servings. I also eat rice along with it. From there, I eat another meal once again. I’m the type who feels happy when I eat.

Wooyeop: It must be hard to pay his food bill lol

Who is the member who has the tidies bedroom?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Taeseon!! Jihun!! (Taeseon actually pointed at himself)

And in contrast, who has the messiest bedroom?

Taeseon: It’s Kangmin!! Kangmin!! No.1!! LOL

Kangmin: Nah. It looks tidy to me.

Everyone: No way! He is lying!

Who is the best member at cooking?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Hohyeon.

Hohyeon: I’m good at making Italian food. I often like to make Risotto and Pasta. I already love Pasta, so I thought about starting to make it for myself. I learned it from a Recipes book and everytime I make it, I just get better and better at it.

Has everyone eaten the Pasta that Hohyeon makes?

Everyone: Not yet. We haven’t tried his Pasta.

Jihun: When he first joined us in the dorm, he made us Fried rice. Ever since then, he has been the one to cook for us.

Who is the member whose dancing and singing skills have improved the most?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Hohyeon!

Hohyeon: My trainee period was so short, and when I first joined the agency, there was a huge difference between my skills and my hyungs. So I started to put much more efforts in order to keep up with them. I think that my MC skills have improved as well.

Who is the most stylish member?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Hakmin!!

Are you interested in Japanese fashion brands?

Hakmin: Of course.

Who is the member with the best reflexes?

Everyone: 1, 2, 3, Hayoung!!

Hayoung: Before I became a trainee, I used to play basketball, hockey, handball, rugby, and others. I was actually chosen as the school representative for most of these.

Taeseon: Since we are still young, I’m positive that we can show many different things from now on. I would like everyone to watch over our development process. And I hope that our fans with stay with us for a long, long time.
