At first, despite the spam, I thought youwere reasonable enough to dialogue @1st-worldsaver , but since you went full on with the other account @agentofafreeworld ...
By the way, I know you said something in that post about not asking about the blockade. Even if you didn't directly asked about it, that post has information about the situation so far and it's important to understand those things so you'd understand:
Why we take the stances we take.
Why is this a totalitarian dictatorship.
Why the fact that "USA wants out oil" is the least of our concerns right now (because, yeah, we know that, and that is an issue but we'll deal with that when we can even afford to think about something that is not, you know, surviving).
Anyway.
Edit: mistook the account, sorry!

This is El Cuartel de la Montaña. There's where Chávez rests are. During the entire blackout, that, for me, was 19 hours long, that place had electricity.
El Helicoide, the largest torture centre in LATAM also had electricity.

friend since 4 in the morning without electricity. The light came on about an hour ago with a lot of force and burned down a small refrigerator that we have with my mom and sister's insulin. This is a disaster. We went out to buy ice as best we could and the neighbor lent us some Colman coolers to store them in because the heat here is very intense. God willing, we'll get away from these people. Thank you. Anonymous. Please.

Two former Colombian soldiers, Alexander Ante and José Aron Medina Aranda, were detained in Venezuela during a stopover while returning from fighting in Ukraine. Following their arrest in Caracas, both were extradited to Russia, where they now face charges of having fought against Russian forces as mercenaries. A Moscow court has ordered their provisional detention, which could lead to a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. The family, who had been waiting for their return in Colombia, were devastated to discover that they had been sent to Russia without warning.

(regarding that ask-meme you reblogged) I would be very interested in reading your opinions on Scar, because he deserves every drop of appreciation he can get
AAAA DJKAID OKAY TIME TO R A N T ABOUT MY MAN
(SPOILER WARNING FOR BOTH 2003 AND BROTHERHOOD)
Why I like them:
Okay so....where to begin. Most important to me, I think, is that Scar is not a very common character. So many pieces of media focusing on war and genocide focus on the bad effects on the agents of it, but rarely on the (largely brown) victims, and never in a way that vindicates them. The FMA adaptations vary in the ways they handle Scar, but all of them give you the general idea that Scar has a definite right to feel this wrathful. Scar's arc isn't really about forgiving his oppressors by any means- he still fucking hates them at the end of both series, and for good reason. But he learns to direct his trauma and experiences into something that is more constructive for himself and for his community (in Brotherhood). This is shown in like the brilliant visual motif of him getting the deconstruction tattoo during the most traumatic and violent part of his life, but then gaining the reconstruction tattoo over the course of Brotherhood. In 03, despite the fact that he dies, I still like how he went out and how the show didn't really villainize him. He just has a lot of agency, and I like that.
What else, what else. His design is just fucking cool. His outfit rocks, he has white hair and red eyes, he's brown, he's a warrior priest, he's distinctly ~ Muslamic ~, he's cool as FUCK. He canonically likes cute animals and just adopts this little foreign princess for the hell of it. He's just COOL. Also he says some of the most absolutely metal lines in the series.
In short, Scar is really fucking cool, visually and narratively, and I have yet to find a character of color treated with his nuance in media.
Why I don't:
I can't really find a lot of answers to this tbh... I maybe find it hard that he was kinda chummy with General Armstrong at the end of Brotherhood? idk, he's cool as fuck, I love him.
Favorite episode:
The one where its his final fight against Wrath/Fuhrer Bradley, in Brotherhood. Like.........what a culmination. What a FINALE. First of all, the sheer brilliance of Scar, a dude whose entire motivation at the beginning was just wrath and revenge, fighting the literal PERSONIFICATION OF WRATH, thereby being a VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF HIS CHOICE TO MOVE BEYOND WRATH AND TO BECOME TRUE JUSTICE, just. WOWS me every time. It's also like a really fucking epic fight? And just....the way the show VINDICATES scar's beliefs because scar, in doing alchemy, is going against the teachings of ishvala, and Bradley mocks it, right? WELL, we pretty much get the implication that while BRADLEY is the personification of AMESTRIS' wrath, SCAR is the wrath of ISHVALA. SCAR IS ISHVALA. And he only STARTS BEING THAT when he stops convincing himself that he acts for Ishvala- he acts for his people. And it's just a wonderful callback to this scene where Bradley had mocked the Ishvallan leader with words a la "where is your god now? where is his wrath?" and then LIKE. THERE HE IS DUDE HE JUST FUCKING K I L L E D YOU
Ugh, the brilliance.
Also of course it goes without saying that it was very cathartic to see Scar be the one to kill the person who directly ordered his people's genocide in the first place.
Favorite season/movie:
I'm gonna interpret this as whether I like him more in 2003 or Brotherhood, and to be honest: I can't tell you. I like both Scars a lot.
Favorite line:
"My sympathy will not be spent on soldiers. Neither should yours." banger
"Your only solace from my wrath shall be damnation!" BANGER
Favorite outfit:
He only really has one outfit lmao but I will say I love the Adidas tracksuit/yellow jacket/sunglasses fit
OTP:
TBH he hasn't really been the most romantic dude huh. I've never really shipped him with anyone. He had a really interesting dynamic with Lust in 2003 though, I wish the fandom explored that more.
BROTP:
MEI!!! HIS DAUGHTER MEI CHANG!!!!!!! AND HIS OTHER DAUGHTER XIAO MEI!!!!! HE LOVES HIS DAUGHTER!!!!! HE DRIVES HER TO BALLET PRACTICE!!!!! HE TOOK HER TO SEE FROZEN IN MOVIE THEATERS!!!!! HE IS!!! HER FATHER!!!!
ok fr though there's sth so beautiful and poignant abt that scene where he listens to how mei is trying to save her people from starvation and how emotionally exhausted she is from the search for the philosopher's stone and from losing xiao mei and then deciding to help her find her even though he has no obligation to like....gets me every time
or when she comes back with envy and he's like "!!!! you fool!!!!! go save your people!!!!" and mei starts crying so he's like "alright stop crying you can stay" like????? what a fucking DAD
they also kick ass together
Headcanon:
Hm. Post B-hood he doesn't really become the new leader of Ishval or anything but he does become a very prolific and influential theologian with many seminal works on the history and religion of Ishval. Also, he and Mei keep in touch. They send letters and occasionally visit. She shares all the gossip with him so he has dirt on every single person of importance in Xing and Amestris. He pretends he doesn't care about the drama, but he's intrigued.
A wish:
I wish he got more screentime? He's just cool.
An oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen:
well, the franchise has been over for like......11 years. thank god he wasn't in the live action.
5 words best to describe them:
cool, sexy, talented, showstopping, amazing
My nickname for them:
do people??? nickname their favorite characters????
Anyway, thank you so much for the ask!!!!!! I enjoyed this!!!

So maybe I have 2? ideas for Scar-fic. First one being Mei seeing Scar after Ishval's being rebuilt, second: what if Marcoh had done the Sensible Thing and given the philosopher's stone to scar and let HIM decide what to do with it(we can all probably guess what it would be). Other than that, head empty
oh both of those are GREAT. also I’m not actually entirely sure what Scar would want done with the philosopher’s stone since I’m not sure we ever got his thoughts on it? but I think rebuilding Ishval with it would probably be it. I think there’d be something poetic in using the souls of dead Ishvalans to help rebuild their homeland; personally, if I were trapped in that stone, that’s how I’d want my soul to be put to rest. that or he’d just outright destroy it but I’m not sure if that’d put the souls to rest. I can’t remember much specifics on the philosopher’s stones.
also fun fact: my brain is very bad at remembering story details sometimes (it’s a pain when I like to do analysis) and for a moment I went ‘wait what DID the stone get used to’ and it. it really was just giving Roy Mustang, noted war criminal, his sight back huh. they really did just use the souls of dead Ishvalans to magically heal the guy who aided in their genocide. I mean at least it was done on the condition of giving Ishvalans some basic human rights back but still. what the fuck. why did we even need to bargain for those.
anyway #let Scar have the philosopher’s’ stone 2k21.

One of the main benefits of having government owned public transportation is that instead of getting ads from McDonald's or the like on the trains we just get notices from the health department telling you to get your prostate checked

@1st-worldsaver AOEUNFJKXSTHXQS BELATED RESPONSE BUT
Tumblr media
YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHH ANOTHER BACKLASH FAAAAAAAN
thanks for leaving the comment lol. that made my night
WOOOOOOO! finally watched The Sea Beast on Netflix! the first thing i saw of it, other than it being in my Netflix scroll, was this gifset, specifically the first two gifs and the bottom quote 'cause after i went "oHP THAT'S A MOVIE I'M WATCHING" from the first gif, i purposefully didn't look at the others. and HOOOOOOH BOY do i love reptilian sea monsters. -looks at my url- -corrects:- sea monsters. boy do i love sea monsters. so i was hyped to watch the movie only to see that design, but an artist i follow was reblogging a bunch about the movie and saying how much they loved it, so, hey! if it's a good movie too, that's a bonus!!
Tumblr media
^this is the beauty that had me go “WELLP. THAT’S A MOVIE I’M DEFINITELY GOING TO WATCH”
anyhow.
non-spoiler review: FUN. I LIKED IT. THE ACTION WAS -CHEF'S KIIIIIISS-, THE DESIGNS WERE CHEF'S KISS, IT'S GOT ITS NICE CORNY MORALS FOR AN ANIMATED FAMILY FILM, AND I LIKE PRETTY MUCH ALL THE CHARACTERS. i've got some nitpicks i'll go into in the spoiler part of this review, as it is unfortunately a movie i'd have to force myself to watch again, but, for the most part, that's just 'cause of my own personal stuff / distractibility.
from the caps lock there, obviously i recommend the movie for most people. the most non-spoiler i can get on one of my bigger nitpicks is "character inconsistency. one of the characters seems to have certain traits to service the story's theme, and they inexplicably lose those traits at a certain point to service the story's theme / plot, instead of acting consistent to themself the whole time."
spoilers under cut!
__
so.
-upset exhale-
Tumblr media
Jacob Holland.
he’s the inconsistent character i mentioned above. he’s the “hyper-competent” character, which was done super fun with the action, but then... he... just... falls apart when he’s taken away from his ship. for comedy, kinda. also to show he doesn’t know what he’s doing, sure, ‘cause that’s the point: he DOESN’T know what’s going on with these creatures. so, the writers could have kept that concept, sure -- that he loses some of his competence once he metaphorically loses his footing -- but there could have been a better balance ‘cause that was distracting.
i took some notes after watching the movie and i said “story-servicing abilities rather than character-serving abilities: his level of competency is hinged to the story and to the writers, not to himself. again, there’s not inherently anything wrong with that -- storytelling is about communication, after all -- but the drastic dip was unbelievable.
another thing that--ugh. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHH. it’s a much smaller deal, but it’s the thing that makes the movie a “i have to force myself to rewatch it” movie.
the... ugh. really? the female-coded EYESHADOW on Red? really???? you have to give the sea monster eyeshadow?????
Tumblr media
i would have accepted it if Maisie said her “I think she’s a girl” line or however that went. i would’ve been like “huh. um, okay sure” and that would've been fine. but the kid’s show Bluey and webcomic BACKLASH have spoiled me in regards to female designs. like, look at this wonderfulness:
Tumblr media
everyone here is female except for the dad in back! no dumb cartoon eyelashes to tell them apart! you just gotta listen to the pronouns characters call each other. (with a few exceptions through the show, but they're the exception, not the rule, and i have no complaints about those characters)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and look at this! both female! (okay, the first one's from BACKLASH and the second is from a one-shot by the same artist.) no dumb exaggerated eyelashes or eye-shadow-that-doesn’t-actually-exist-because-you-need-to-know-the-character-is-female! wonderful! makes my heart so happy!
so anyway. that aspect of The Sea Beast isn't something that's going to stop me from recommending the movie. it's just a character design thing that irks me, like giving hair only to female stick figures or otherwise-genderless figures. and now that i've seen it's not strictly necessary, it irks me even more, especially on inhuman characters, especially since, usually, inhuman characters would have the males with those features.
anywho.
like i said, good movie, good characters.
Tumblr media
i liked the transition of Captain Crow from murky protagonist to CLEAR antagonist, yet nothing he did seemed out of character from how he was introduced, and he was still an empathetic character the whole time. i'd need to rewatch the last scene to fully remember / grasp how his arc resolves, 'cause i do remember going during the credits, "hm, but his crew and ship got away, right? so he didn't have to give that witch 'everything,' right?"
but it seems likely his mental world was shattered and he lost the legacy he'd been working for and living in his whole life. so, neat. there are probably some really good lines and emotional moments around that which will seem even cooler with that in mind.
Tumblr media
i liked that Maisie was smart and not just the-kid-in-the-way who has to be constantly saved, and the transition from her being gung-ho to scared and uncertain of the situation when Red first showed up was fast but believable.
and, i'll admit i was getting annoyed with "oh but everything's harmless. we've just been attacking first" oversimplified idea 'cause i've spent some time in places with literal mountain lions, and you gotta be on the lookout, especially if you have dogs, other pets, or kids, so i was grateful for the moment when Maisie, sitting in the gigantic conch shell, heard a roar in the forest and still grabbed a knife. i know it was early in the development of the "question whether something or someone is actually harmful / tradition isn't always right" theme, but i still relaxed
overall, the movie's theme is a bit oversimplified (and i know if i started comparing some of the movie's lines to certain real life idealogical movements, like history-deniers, that i'd be missing the actual points, but some of those lines distracted me too. but, at the same time, i also found the touch about propaganda at the end neat, with the royal family logo and how that was done), and i think How to Train Your Dragon probably went about its concepts more successfully from an animal behavior point of view, but it's a good movie that i'll happily recommend to others. (and i could never really get into the HTTYD movies, either, but that's another personal nitpicky thing, where i suspect i just don't like the more realistic animated movements and physics and a few other minor things lol, so i'm happy to have this movie now 'cause i like it a lot more)
as always, comments welcome, especially comments that disagree or that mention things i skipped over! (yeah, i unfortunately don't have much to say about Sarah Sharpe other than SHE'S SO COOL.) or just someone mutually happily screaming about the movie! remember, i did have happy caps locking at the start of this posts 'cause there's a lot of awesome stuff in this movie!! i appreciate comments and always find them interesting
edit: almost added these to the tags but i didn't want to spoil the creature's tentacles lol 'cause those were DOOOOOOPE

I will gladly ask more about Heathcliff! How about H for honesty?
H. Honesty: How often does [Heathcliff] lie? Do they believe lying is ever justified? Describe a time [Heathcliff] told a lie, or told the truth even when it was difficult.
He's told a handful of white lies growing up at his Central boarding school when he's asked about being Ishvalan. It's mostly just like. when someone asks him about Ishvalan food or religion and something and he's too lazy to actually explain something and get follow-up questions so he makes something up. But he doesn't lie about anything major.
I think the most difficult truth he told was to Hughes after leaving the academy. Like, dropping out and going home was the first real time where he actually gave up on something. Even just admitting that the harassment sucked and he genuinely wanted to go home.

You really said it best in that post of yours about Scar being written as blameless as possible while still being responsible for the Rockbells deaths. It's practically impossible to make it any other way, but I made myself sad thinking about other scenarios, because they just would have made Scar's trauma even worse
Honestly I don’t think so? If Scar had been willing to kill the Rockbells while knowing that he was killing doctors trying to help people in a war zone, his character would have had to be significantly less concerned with morality than he is, so I don’t think he’d feel as guilty over it. And even if some other circumstance made him kill the Rockbells without knowing what he was doing, I don’t necessarily think his trauma would’ve been ‘worse’ from that?
In general, I don’t believe in the idea that one type of trauma is more severe than another, and in this particular case, while Scar’s trauma would have manifested differently had he killed the Rockbells with awareness of what he was doing, I don’t necessarily think it would have been better or worse, because I don’t think Scar considers the fact that he wasn’t entirely ‘with it’ to be a mitigating factor in the murders. Scar clearly holds himself fully responsible for the murders of the Rockbells, and at no point does he even bring up the fact that he wasn’t entirely there when he killed them. I think this is because he realizes that it ultimately doesn’t matter much; regardless of how or why he killed them, Winry’s still an orphan now, and (since he doesn’t know that Kimblee was slated to kill them anyway) many more Ishvalans died where the Rockbells might have been able to save some. And besides, losing control of yourself like that is absolutely terrifying; if he had chosen to kill them (while in full possession of his rational thought), he could at least be sure he wouldn’t make that mistake again, but now? There’s no guarantee he won’t flip out like that again. After you do something like that, it’s something that hangs over your head forever, and you’ll never stop thinking of yourself as dangerous.
That’s not to say I think his trauma would’ve been ‘better’ if he’s killed the Rockbells while lucid; in that case he’d have to wrangle with his moral system, the fact that he knowingly killed innocent lives and was killing to both destroy a family and leave other Ishvalans without medical care to get some sense of imagined revenge, etc. But ultimately, I don’t think these two types of trauma are comparable, and in terms of Scar and his mental health, both of these things would have been equally destructive, in my opinion.

(long rant warning) slightly off topic but this post got me realising what about their dynamic feels so authentic to me. the way i see it, katara’s forced adulthood is both a parallel and foil to aang’s bc they both struggle with the issue of self vs the world.
they are parallels for more obvious reasons. both have specific, arguably dominant arcs related to 'self vs the world’, in this context the problem of balancing their own needs with the world’s even when they may clash (talked more about below), which not all of the characters have (e.g. zuko - honour / morality; sokka - leadership / perhaps his understanding of masculinity; toph - team life vs independence). both are forced into adulthood bc of the losses they have sustained, leaving them responsible for themselves at young ages. both are unusually powerful benders who share a love for bending not just as a defence/weapon and skill, but also as an art and a vessel of identity (1st ep with katara’s desperation to learn; the pirate ep when katara struggles with the scroll; aang’s clash with the “gliding, not flying [and not airbending]” problem in the northern air temple; the north eps when katara is denied access to masterful bending lessons). both are the last ones of their cultures, although admittedly in different ways: aang literally and completely, as the literal last airbender and last air nomad, katara more subtly as not the last of the southern water tribe but still the last southern water bender (still a sustainable cultural loss: wan shi tong hinted at the existence of a specific waterbending style for the south). knowing that you are the last of your people and your people’s unique skills in some way or another is a crushing, likely not fully comprehensible or processable load for a 12 and 14 year old, but it’s one they share. i could go on for the self vs world parallels, but these were the first that came to mind.
on the other hand, they are also foils because their arcs about the problem of self vs world come from opposite ends of the spectrum. aang struggles with how to accept his responsibilities as the avatar and destined/obligatory worldsaver (”why didn’t you tell us you were the avatar?” “because i never wanted to be”; killing ozai for the world’s good vs his non violent ethics and personality) (problem with external duties) while retaining his personality and fun (the penguin sledding in ep1; swimming in rivers and lakes throughout; the dance party in early s3; the sandcastle in late s3; smiling at everyone’s jokes in the final scene of the final ep) (preset with internal duties). katara, meanwhile, struggles with allowing herself the time and energy to focus on herself (treating herself to nice clothing and makeup when she can), her emotions (processing her mother’s death/father’s departure; balancing her compassion with logistics/hard decisions like with the fire nation fishing village) and her relations with those around her (friendship and love for aang; a balanced sibling and not a mother to sokka; forgiveness/friendship for zuko) (problem with internal duties) while still retaining and participating in the bigger picture of the war and what it took from her (continuing to hone her bending for defence and battle; final battle with THE firelord azula) without letting it dominate her every second like it did before aang’s arrival (not being able to travel to learn to bend bc she was stuck at home doing everyone’s work, since the village was so depleted of its warriors (war efforts) and population (raiders)) (preset with external duties).
so what happens is that they have opposite problems, but they both understand the external and internal guilt, pain and conflict that comes with the spectrum. since they are on opposite ends on the spectrum, but they can still bond and sympathise with each other over being on that tricky spectrum together, over time, their relationship is about helping each other find the happy middles they need to win the war, while still keeping the humanity they need to bring themselves and the world around them through conflict. their relationship is about helping each other become the people they need to be for others, bettering and strengthening themselves, while also bettering and strengthening themselves with their identities, personal priorities and self-care, becoming who they need to be for themselves. that end scene in Sozin’s Comet - Avatar Aang is the perfect culmination of that. aang stands there, in his avatar’s robes, standing outside to watch other people of the warstricken city grow again, thus accepting his duty to the world. katara stands there, in a pretty robe and with flowers in her hair bc she wanted to feel nice and choose something for herself, with her arms around aang bc she finally allows herself to choose him too.
aang and katara's first meeting is so fucking powerful... katara is this girl who's been forced into an early womanhood, who became her own mother, who carries the entire legacy of the southern waterbender genocide on her back, who nurtures the hope for a brighter future in her heart despite all the tragedy she's been through... and instead of them immediately contending with aang's role in the world, they go penguin-sledding, and their first experiences together aren't ones of adult duty but of childish delight. there's something beautiful about them being children-- it's an act of defiance against what the war has done to them. it lends so much meaning to aang and katara's relationship.

I have finally dared to log in on my ignored account to send you a nice little comic with Scar and Mei this time: they-call-me-hippie post/637846217102065665/bellanoche-oxo-ah-yes-my-sense-of-humor-is (I apologise for the hidden lurking, I'm just not Used to direct contact on the internet)
JFKDASLJFDKASLFJDKSAL OH MY GOD ALL THOSE COMICS ARE HILARIOUS. though honestly Mei definitely knew the fuck word before Yoki dropped it. she’s been travelling through countries on her own she’s heard swearwords before. really like the idea of Mei dropping a very loud ‘FUCK’ in the middle of a fight and Scar coming to a screeching halt because how and why does the tiny little princess with a panda sidekick swear more than him??? (personally I kinda think Scar mostly doesn’t swear unless the situation is like, dire. ‘chimeras? fucking sweet’ exempted obviously).
also lurking is more than fine!!! lord knows I hide behind anon as if it’s a sport lmao. though it’s nice to see you off anon!
