Love Therapy [18+]
Tumblr media
Summary: Kabal had gotten used to showing parts of his wounded skin around you after a long while of becoming close again. Beginning to feel touch starved, a need for personal intimacy is one activity being crossed off the list.
Pairing(s): Kabal/F!Reader
Warning(s): Smut, Teasing, Praise Kink, Hurt/Comfort
You remember the time discovering that your lover suffered from third-degree burns during his job in the city. It took him a while to get the courage to see you again. Since receiving endless flesh scars, all of his self-esteem drained out. He was scared of being around you, around anybody, due to fear of judgement. He still couldn’t believe that you decided to keep him by your side after this mess. Those burn marks did not bother you a single bit. This is the same man that always loved you. The man who protected you since the relationship began. The one who spent time with you and held you in his arms whenever it was time to rest. Surely this wasn’t the only time, and it felt like you two were at peace. Now, a lot of that changed. Kabal wasn’t entirely different though. Of course he wants to be near you, making sure you’re okay and whatnot. It was very uncomfortable for him to share intimate contact with you. He thought his skin would ruin that, but that wasn’t true. You wanted to show how much you love and care for him despite the altered appearance he got.
It has since been nighttime as the temperature went down. The weather began to get chilly through the night. Even the inside of your home turned cold. You and Kabal are in the bedroom getting prepared to sleep. You bring out a medical ointment from the bathroom to use for his skin. Kabal sat on the edge of the bed without his shirt on while he still wore his respirator. He’s gotten used to revealing half of his burnt body to you after a while of getting more close again. He didn’t mind if you lended a hand applying the ointment on him. This seemed to relax him more, but not fully. Sex hasn’t been in his cards for a good while. He was unsure if you would still do it with him. If he was still able to make you feel good in bed. Sure his entire length is fucked up by the flames, but perhaps he could try?
The coolness of ointment being rubbed across his skin felt soothing. The way you massage Kabal’s muscles is nothing but endearing. It can go on for hours if he wanted. You hook your arms around his neck after finishing, leaning forward on his back. You rest your head along his shoulder and softly kiss his neck. Kabal brought a hand to your hair to caress. You whisper, “I love you, Kabal. You know that, don’t you?”
He answers nervously with a sigh, “Yeah? Yeah, I do, sweetheart.”
You didn’t brush off the fact that he is anxious about sharing intimate sex with you. Being afraid of how your mind would think of the burns making him look like a freak, though this is entirely untrue. You move a hand over to his bicep, rubbing into the muscles of his skin. The skin felt so good whether or not Kabal had scars.
“Your skin feels so good, Kabal,” you whisper to lighten the mood, “I would worship you in any way. I really do mean that…”
The speed demon raises a brow, “You really think so?”
“Of course. Besides, we haven’t done it in a while. I thought about how we could do it again.”
He knows what you mean. Giving one another heated satisfaction in bed isn’t a bad idea. It can make Kabal more relieved as long as you were serious towards your earlier statements. He isn’t sure if he feels different when he starts going inside you. There’s only one way to find out.
“If that’s what you want, then prove it to me,” Kabal breaks the silence.
“Are you sure, hun?”
“Please, I mean it.”
Still holding him close, you proceed to kiss the side of his head. Your lips trail down to his neck again to gently kiss and suck on the skin, being cautious with not biting too hard. Kabal sighs from your teasing and tilts his head to the side, granting you just a bit more access. He keeps rubbing into your soft locks with his other hand gripping the edge of the bed. You drag your tongue across his charred neck and moan. Kabal bites his lip with his eyes shut tight thanks to the tease made by you. His eyes lid open when an erection grew in his joggers. The fallacious thoughts didn’t matter at the moment. He needed to be in you. To keep you close in this cold temperature and create pleasurable friction.
Kabal utters, “God I love you so much, Y/N.”
Your sweet signs of affection were interrupted by the cold air giving you goosebumps. You whimper and let go of him before massaging both of your arms. A need of lingering warmth rang in your mind. Your lover quickly became aware of this as he turns to your shivering form. He places a warm hand along your skin. Kabal is more used to the cold compared to you. He was able to handle it unless it feels like absolute zero.
“Want me to get rid of the cold for ya, babe?”
He earns a nod from you until the both of you scoot under the covers together. You lie down and face each other with soft looks in your eyes. Your hand hovers over to the side of Kabal’s respirator while lips sent a kiss to his forehead. He smiles underneath before detaching the piece of metal, placing it on the nightstand.
“Kabal, are you sure about-“
He paused you with a kiss to your mouth. As long as he can breathe without it, there shouldn’t be a problem. Though it will be if he keeps it off for too long. He spoke in between kisses, “Of course I’m sure, Y/N. I needed this anyway.”
Resuming the make out session, your hands trail up his bare chest, proceeding to trace your touch all over the area. They slide up to Kabal’s shoulders to grip as you mewl in his mouth. He holds you close at the small of your back with his other hand squeezing your rear. His boner was pressed against your clothed womanhood, and it kept growing larger. Kabal hums in the kiss until pulling away to catch his breath.
“You want my cock, don’t you princess?” he whispers in your ear. It was too much of an easy way to make you whimper.
“Yes, baby. I want you to fill me up so bad…”
Kabal swiftly pulls off his joggers to toss away from bed, remaining only in his boxers. You take off your nightwear as well as your undergarments to toss aside. The bed cover was pushed back since Kabal didn’t want to miss out on seeing your nude figure. You were waiting for his skin to touch yours this whole time after returning back home. The speed demon towers over your body, studying every precious feature of beauty right before him. You place your hands onto his chest to check on his breathing. He seemed to be doing okay so far. Kabal takes one of your hands by the wrist to kiss the back of your hand.
He reminds you with a smile, “I’ll be alright, sweetheart.”
Closing the gap between your bodies, Kabal kisses you again, but it was deeper this time followed by a hungry bite on your bottom lip. You knew he wanted to share tongues, so you let his collide with yours. He was going a lot more rough on you whilst his tongue tasted of ginger ale he consumed earlier. His tongue was barely touched by the flames to your surprise. It still feels the same as before. You moan during the kiss as you submit to Kabal. He rubs his erection against you, making yourself completely wet. Kisses were getting sloppier, and a small amount of drool falls past the corner of your lips. You manage to lick it off after the kiss broke. Kabal caresses your sleepy face and grins at the expression.
“Lay on your side for me,” he motions for you to turn over.
You nod and comply as he wishes, awaiting for a surprise up his sleeve. Kabal presses himself on your back before snaking a hand on your side. You look back to watch it slide down to your hip. He kneads the skin firmly and proceeds to raise your leg upwards to position. He springs his hardened length out until it rubs on your exposed slit, your leg being held up throughout. You hollered an airy moan with his free hand grabbing your breast. This newfound texture of Kabal’s ribbed cock starts to make you believe you ended up in heaven. How he felt previously was just enough to make you cum, but this was even better. This time your legs would be quivering easy.
“Mmm fuck. Shove it in me Kabal, please!” you exclaim before biting your lip.
He ends up nibbling at your neck whilst his cock shoves into you at a slow pace. Your drenched cunt tightened around Kabal, sensing every motion of him finding your sweet spot. Every desperate cry of pleasure rang happily in his ears. So beautiful and warranted.
“Do I feel good, baby?” his low voice whispers, “You’re enjoying how good my cock feels?”
“Ah! Oh! Oh, Kabal! You’re so good- ah!”
The guy has already received an answer. Those awaited praises were making him less nervous with fucking you again. Telling him how amazing he feels made his heart melt. It was about time that he kept going further. Kabal’s pacing of his length sped up within sounds of coated fluid sliding in and out of you.
“Keep singing like this and I’ll pound you even harder.”
Your body shudders at the dark tone of Kabal’s voice. Your lower abdomen circling in a pool of warmth. That light thread in you ever so close to snapping for release due to his ribbed length penetrating you. This scenario meant everything to you. Finally being able to share each other’s touch. Sharing worthwhile kisses and love bites then and there. You were doing such a good job at making Kabal feel whole again. He fucks into you the quickest pace he could with his hand still gripping you tight in the spooning position. You hold Kabal’s head close while he kisses the flesh of your neck hungrily, leaving you a moaning mess.
Your voice was panting, “Babe, I’m…I’m about to cum! Please, don’t stop!”
He pulls away from your neck, “Look at me.”
You turn to see him before he rushed in for a starving kiss. This led you to return the favor and moan endlessly by his control. He was returning back to his old self again. Something that had been missing for a while post-burn. Now Kabal has to treasure this moment to remember. He continues to hit that sensitive spot repeatedly, forcing every pleading cry out of your trembling self. It was so delightful to let Kabal fuck you however he wants. He deserves to have this after everything he went through back at the city. All that weight was being taken off his chest.
After a few more hard pumps inside you, your cunt flutters through your high. He bottoms himself out for you to allow the remaining fluid escape hurriedly. He breaks the kiss to let your cries of pleasure echo around the room. The slick and wet noises of Kabal’s dick rutting into you all the while biting your neck like an animal. He snaps off the skin abruptly before uttering I love yous nonstop. That and a visible hickey on your neck are obvious signs for Kabal never wanting to leave you.
“I love you so goddamn much,” he pants with his breath touching your skin.
Pulsating thrusts were slowing down after erupting his warm seed in you. He sends a deep kiss to your lips while kneading your hip. When the work was finished, his length slips out with thick coats of ejaculate mixed with yours. Kabal collapses on his back as he pulls you close to his wounded body. He places the respirator back on after minutes of sex without it. You could hear his muffled breathing coming out of it. It was surprising that he can manage to last this long without the gear. You turned into complete putty and lay on his chest tiredly. Your index lazily traces across the texture of Kabal’s skin. The fast man gave a soft smile as he sends light touches to your back.
“Thank you for this, sweetheart. This really means a lot to me.”
“Anything for you, Kabal,” you said as you cup his face in your hand, “Maybe we can give it another go?”
Kabal snickers at the sudden response, “Shit, already? Is my dick really that good?”
You lean in to pull down his respirator and kiss him once more. Your body ends up straddling his waist while circling hands around his neck. Mouths open wide with their tongues clashing each other. Kabal leans forward close to cup his hands on your ass. You suddenly pull back with a sigh, “Please, do it to me again. I’m all yours…”
Well shit, Kabal’s got plenty of stamina for round two. He is for sure gladly willing to fuck in between your weakened thighs again, but he’s going to need his respirator back on.

Niji-iro Midori: The Reluctant Ringmaster
Chapter 2: The Circus Arrives Without Warning
A building collapsing in a city such as Absalom attracted the attention of many. The Absalom Watch was the first group to arrive, as the nearby nighttime patrols heard the explosion and came running. Finding the Minkan embassy ruins on fire, the Watch called in the fire brigade. Meanwhile, the Watch set up a perimeter to keep away any gawkers and potential looters.
Shortly after, the First Guard, the elite military force dedicated to protecting Absalom from threats both domestic and foreign, arrived on the scene to investigate. Finding no immediate clues as to who was responsible for the embassy's destruction, they stayed on to assist the fire brigade, which was just arriving.
Fortunately, the fire brigade employed several trained clerics, and a few well-placed quench spells put out the flames almost immediately. The fires extinguished and the ruins brought down to a tolerable temperature, teams from the First Guard commenced the search through the rubble. On finding little more than ashes, stones, and the occasional unmelted item made of iron, steel, copper, or bronze, the First Guard concluded that there could have been no survivors, the dead were burned beyond recognition and could not be identified, an investigation would be ongoing, and a messenger would be sent to the Minkai Empire posthaste with the sad news.
Meanwhile, Mistress Dusklight, ringmaster of the Celestial Menagerie, the most famous circus in the Inner Sea, had been in town on the hunt for older children whom she could purchase from the orphanage or any vagrants who looked like they could be of use to her circus. She would weave her charms on her targets and bring them back to replace the ranks who had left on their own or mysteriously "disappeared" altogether. Spending the night at a building down the street from the embassy belonging to one of Dusklight's business associates, she and her carny press gang were awoken by the fireball attack on the embassy. Peering through the window, she saw the city's response to the emergency and waited for the first responders to leave.
Under the cover of darkness, Mistress Dusklight and her orc press gang cautiously stepped through the deserted ruins of the Minkan embassy, in the hopes of finding an injured survivor or two to spirit away.
Handsome Frankie, a hideous orc clown even more hideous out of his face paint, pulled away some wreckage that was blocking the stairs to the basement. Iron beams and stone had prevented the basement from collapsing entirely. Frankie indicated to his cohorts that this would be a good place to search. Three of the strongest orcs and Frankie carefully filed down the stairs, moving debris as necessary, to find one fully collapsed hallway on the left and a partially crushed metal door leading to the kitchen. On examining the door, Frankie heard movement from within and a soft voice crying "Help me!"
"Mistress, down here!" Frankie hollered up the stairwell as he wrenched the door from its hinges.
Stepping down the shattered stairs, Dusklight rounded the corner and peered into the shadows. "What's this?" she purred in her least threatening tone of voice. With her catfolk eyes easily seeing everything in the basement's low light, she spotted a young kitsune girl with red-and-white fur, a head of red hair, and green eyes. She was smudged with dirt and her formerly pristine green and brown raiments were torn to rags. The girl looked up at Mistress Dusklight, frightened by her sudden appearance with the burly orcs. "What is your name, little one?" Dusklight asked gently.
"Mi-Midori," The girl answered.
"Hello, Midori. I am Mistress Dusklight of the Celestial Menagerie," Dusklight introduced herself. A cruel, predatory grin crossed her face. "Welcome to the family."

Angelenos Shrug at Recent Quakes, Decades After the Last ‘Big One.’ (NYT) Los Angeles, in all its glory, is a wonder to behold. Its finest days (high 70s, sunny, breeze whispering through the palm trees) can make one believe it is impervious to disaster. The unfortunate truth that lurks below the earth is thus easy to gloss over or even forget. Until it reminds you with a jolt. Suddenly there is no denying the shaking, the rattling, the swaying—and one’s memory is jogged. In recent months, Los Angeles has experienced a smattering of earthquakes that were just powerful enough to make residents stop in their tracks. One morning last week, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake was felt across all corners of the city. For some, the recent quakes have amplified the underlying dread of “the big one” and prompted many to wonder if the shaking is a prelude to a disaster. (The short answer is: it’s up for debate.) But for much of Los Angeles, the general response after being jostled awake, after floors and shelves have vibrated, is apathy.
America’s Oil Country Also Runs on Renewables (NYT) During the scorching summer of 2023, the Texas energy grid wobbled as surging demand for electricity threatened to exceed supply. Several times, officials called on residents to conserve energy to avoid a grid failure. This year it turned out much better—thanks in large part to more renewable energy. The electrical grid in Texas has breezed through a summer in which, despite milder temperatures, the state again reached record levels of energy demand. It did so largely thanks to the substantial expansion of new solar farms. And the grid held strong even during the critical early evening hours—when the sun goes down and the nighttime winds have yet to pick up—with the help of an even newer source of energy in Texas and around the country: batteries. The swift growth of battery storage as a source of power for the electric grid, along with the continued expansion of large-scale solar farms, could not have come at a better time. Texas, like many other states, is facing a surge in its power needs from data centers, new manufacturing plants, cryptocurrency mines, growing residential demand and increasingly intense summer heat. Officials estimate that Texas, already the nation’s largest electricity consumer, could roughly double its demand in just a few years.
It’s been a decade since 43 students disappeared in Mexico. Their parents still fight for answers (AP) Clemente Rodríguez has been documenting the long search for his missing son with tattoos. On Sept. 26, 2014, Christian Rodríguez, a tall boy who loved to folk dance and had just enrolled in a teachers college in the southern state of Guerrero, disappeared along with 42 classmates. Every year since, on the 26th of each month, Clemente Rodríguez, his wife, Luz María Telumbre, and other families meet at the Rural Normal School at Ayotzinapa and take a long bus ride to the capital, Mexico City, to demand answers. They will do so again next week, on the 10th anniversary of their sons’ disappearance. Rodríguez and the other parents are not alone. The 43 students are among more than 115,000 people still reported as missing in Mexico, a reflection of numerous unresolved crimes in a country where human rights activists say violence, corruption and impunity have long been the norm.
Firefighters quell most of Portugal's worst wildfires, fight still on (Reuters) Firefighters tackling deadly wildfires in central and northern Portugal had doused the flames in the Aveiro district, one of the worst-hit, as of Thursday, and were focusing on eight large blazes still raging elsewhere. After five days of ravaging tens of thousands of hectares of forest and farmland, destroying houses and claiming seven lives, the fires in Oliveira de Azemeis, Albergaria-a-Velha and Sever da Vouga, in the northwestern district of Aveiro, were no longer listed as active on the civil protection service's fires portal.
Violence rocks France overseas territories in challenge for new PM Barnier (Worldcrunch) France’s territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific are facing a new wave of unrest with security forces killing two men in New Caledonia and a curfew imposed after rioting in Martinique. The uptick in violence poses a challenge for new centre-right Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who has struggled to form a government following snap parliamentary elections in June, when no party won an absolute majority. The curfew in Martinique comes amid protests against the high cost of living on the island of 350,000.
The EU is trying to help Ukraine prepare for winter (AP) European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Ukraine on Friday focused on helping the country to repair and reconnect its war-damaged electricity grid and boost its heating capacity as winter approaches. Around half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been destroyed during its war with Russia, and rolling electricity blackouts leave parts of the east in darkness for four hours at a time. Von der Leyden said it was as though all of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia had lost electricity. Meanwhile, winter is approaching. The Europeans have already sent more 10,000 generators and transformers, and they’re supplying small and more mobile gas turbines too. These types of electricity-providing equipment is harder to hit and easier to repair. Ukraine’s winter runs from late October through March, with January and February the toughest months. The Europeans hope to help supply around 25% of the 17 gigawatts of power that the country is likely to need this winter.
Putin wants Russia’s youth to become patriots. Many are all in. (Washington Post) At age 25, Maryana Naumova is a regular speaker at youth forums, universities and talk shows across Russia. Naumova is one of thousands of young Russians who have inserted themselves into their country’s new wartime system, adopting Kremlin spin as their own beliefs and ensuring that Putin’s core ideology, of ultranationalist patriotism and Orthodox Christian values, will be carried forward by a new generation. This includes the idea that the United States wants to destroy Russia and that Russia is a peace-seeking victim rather than an aggressor. Like Naumova, they see themselves as patriotic truth-tellers, not instruments of spin. About 7 in 10 Russians between ages 18 and 24—69 percent—support Russia’s war in Ukraine, according to an August poll conducted by the Levada Center, an independent polling group. But 66 percent of young Russians also support moving toward peace talks, according to the poll—a higher proportion than the overall population, of whom only 50 percent support moving toward such talks.
Pagers attack brings to life long-feared supply chain threat (Washington Post) The deadly attack that caused thousands of pagers used by members of Hezbollah to explode Tuesday shines a spotlight on an inconvenient truth: It is virtually impossible to secure the modern electronics supply chain against a determined and sophisticated adversary. Experts call the Israeli attack unparalleled in the history of spycraft in its scale and casualty count, and believe the risk is low that other governments will follow suit in rigging consumer electronics this way. But the Lebanon attack brings to life a long-theorized, worst-case scenario that has troubled governments including the United States as electronic devices have grown more complex and global supply chains more convoluted. The incident may add momentum to political efforts from the U.S. and others to localize more production of critical technologies at home or with trusted allies. However, construction of the typical modern gadget involves dozens of countries, with a dizzying number of component suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
Why Israel’s pager attack in Lebanon is a war crime (Daraj/Lebanon) The idea is truly terrifying. In its gravity, it even exceeds the casualties—at least 12 dead, 3,000 wounded. To plant explosives in pager devices of more than 5,000 Hezbollah members and detonate the explosives remotely is beyond a security breach. Whoever pressed the detonation button, did so with the knowledge that the target was not going to be limited to those who carry the devices. He must have been aware that most Hezbollah members spend their days with their families or work colleagues, or they are walking in markets, stores and streets, along with civilians who have no idea what is going on. The decision was made to detonate about 5,000 small explosions. Benjamin Netanyahu approved the operation, so we can indeed say that he pushed the button himself. From what moral ground did this act originate? The majority of targeted Hezbollah members lived outside the trenches of war, and the decision to liquidate them all means that the goal was not to kill just them, but to expand the circle of death to their hometowns. Thus this new attack aimed at their “hometown” qualifies as a war crime, because the target goes beyond the fighters, down to their families and children. The individual targeted explosions are a kind of retaliatory act, and the pain they inflict goes beyond the death count. The tearing out of the eyes is a kind of torture, and the amputation of the fingers that the bombs caused hit not just the fighters, but their families and relatives.
Israel says it killed senior Hezbollah members (BBC) At least 14 people have been killed and 66 injured after Israel's military said it carried out a "targeted strike" on Beirut—its third attack on the Lebanese capital this year. Israel says it killed Hezbollah's operations commander Ibrahim Aqil in the strike. We are in Dahieh, Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut, and the streets around the site of the airstrike have been closed. There’s a heavy security presence of Hezbollah members stopping journalists from getting close to the location, a densely populated area. The atmosphere, unsurprisingly, is very tense. This latest Israeli attack, which the IDF says killed senior Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil, is another sign of the precise intelligence Israel has about the group. In July, another airstrike in Dahieh, Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut, killed Fouad Shukr, a right-hand man to the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah who was responsible for its military operations. He was the most-high profile Hezbollah member to have been killed in the current conflict. Today's attack is another humiliation for Hezbollah, in a week when hundreds of pagers and walkie-talkies used by the group exploded, causing chaos and panic across Lebanon. It was an unprecedented security breach that indicated how Israel had managed to penetrate the group’s communication system.
Sword with pharaoh’s mark found in Egypt, still shimmering 3,000 years later (Washington Post) More than 3,000 years ago, a long bronze sword emblazoned with the insignia of Ancient Egypt’s Ramses II—the most powerful pharaoh of the era—was set down in a mud hut somewhere in the Nile Delta. A team of archaeologists digging up an ancient fort in the area spotted the bronze blade and cleaned it, revealing this month they had found a shimmering blade with the intricacies of an ornamental cartouche—the personal emblem used by the pharaohs—still visible. It had not lost its reflective shine under the layers of rust and grime accumulated over millennia. Ramses II, the second-longest ruling pharaoh in Ancient Egypt, reigned from 1279 to 1213 BCE, a period marking the final peak of Egypt’s military power. Many scholars believe he was also the pharaoh reigning over Ancient Egypt during the time of Moses.
Book sales (Publishers Weekly) Total book sales were up 5.6 percent year over year in the first half of 2024, hitting $6.3 billion. That’s fueled by a 6.7 percent increase in sales of books for adults, as well as hot markets in the religion section (up 15.6 percent in the first six months) and the higher education book market (up 8 percent). Fiction for adults was up 11.3 percent, and sales of digital audiobooks were up 20.4 percent. The only areas where sales slipped were in children’s and young adult fiction and nonfiction.

old greenhorn alone.
Sleep was stubbornly rubbed from weary eyes as the flickers of the setting sun on the cave's wall started to fade. He was trying to catch as much of the remaining day as he could manage but it slipped away with every word he grazed a claw over.
Even so, the dragon was loath to retreat into the shade of his hoard too soon. It’d been a long day but it’d be an even longer night if he left his work alone too soon.
It had taken immeasurable hours slinking through the narrow spaces between shelves growing from the stone walls to even track down the necessary materials and now, here were the fruits of his labors: four scant lines of a single stanza with little hint to its sound. Such was the way with old songs from old kingdoms long since dead.
With a rough voice, he tried to speak it aloud so that perhaps he could find the flow of the verse:
A petal that never burns, Fur from a secret flayed bare, A drop of frost that turns  where winds are chained in still air…
but he could scarcely catch the melody anymore than he could catch daylight.
He was no poet attempting to breathe life in words; he was a lone lizard who was hearing his own voice echoed back from the lonely rock of the high vaulted ceiling.
Dusk had finally fallen far enough that it was harder to tell the individual strokes of ink as separate letters. With a sigh, he closed the tome he had been taking notes on and laid the feather pen in the little nook near the entrance where he kept the replaceable tools of his trade.
Then it was time for his nighttime routine of replacing the books in the archive, of reapplying the protective wards that saved delicate paper from water and time, of checking that the treasure of his hoard had stayed safe to calm the erratic beating of his ever-anxious heart. He ate merely for the sustenance of it; drank simply because he would need to use his voice once more. And all the while, the translated refrain haunted him, begging to be found.
When his work clamored about his mind, there was only one thing that would distract him. Listening was the only way he would be able to fall asleep.
It was a book, like any number of books in his draconic hoard, read through dozens of times and enchanted to speak. The magic cast on it at its inception had begun to run thin some time ago and made its voice stutter and wane in some places, but the beginning lines were always as clear as the bells clamoring on festival mornings in the city far below.
Long before Tiara had walked through flame- before the time of the Bandit Queen who left infamy and a line of broken hearts in her wake- there was no Tiara. There was only a hungry girl with an empty stomach and the clever hands to remedy it…

(My) Sanctuary;
Tumblr media
A/n: First Ever Fic for Genshin Impact Fandom. A fic no one asked for but the idea was living in my head rent free, so what's a girl to do except play more Genshin Impact and work on this fic. (Listened to Sanctuary & Don't think twice by Hikaru Utada while writing this -- hence my inspired and very unoriginal title for this fic because I am horrible at thinking of titles.)
Genre: Mostly Fluff really, a pinch or two of Angst.
Warning: Implied underage drinking. Brief description of Violence. Of age drinking.
Summary: Childhood friends with history. Unspoken feelings. Mutual pining. Circumstances and life have forced you and Diluc on different paths, but you always return to Mondstadt and Diluc always makes time for you.
Word count: 3,128
The busy streets of Mondstadt. How long had it been this time? The absence of your presence from these cobblestone paths; four, five? No. Six months. Commissions to fight greater, fierce foes across Teyvat demanded your blades and lightning. Not that it mattered much how far or long you ventured from your former home. There was only one person who meant a great deal, important even if you could not sort through all the emotions attached to him in your own heart or even dare to give voice to those emotions.
Diluc Ragnvindr.
And despite the inner twisted, festering turmoil (of your own making) cradled in your heart for Mondstadt, Favonius Knights, The Fatui 'diplomats'. Diluc was always a reason to return.
In fact you aren't at all surprised when you stop by Good Hunter, offering up a handful of Mora for a meal. Sitting down at a table, closing your eyes. You took in a deep breath, the air here felt different to you. Thanks to the Anemo god, Barbatos. You swear it truly is the sense, embodiment of freedom that fills your lungs and soothes you even if for a few seconds.
A savory blend of mushrooms, chicken and noodles is your lunch for the day. After thirty minutes have passed since your arrival in Mondstadt. And Diluc is sliding into the chair across from your own, elbows on the table, arms folded. Crimson eyes silently taking in the features of you.
"Hm. You're slacking. That's ten minutes later than before, what took your little informants so long to whisper in your ear word of me being back?" You don't even spare a look at him, taking another bite, chewing a mouthful as you wait for his reply.
"I do have a winery to run and the protection of Mondstadt to ensure, I can't not always come rushing away for personal affairs." Diluc holds a evident edge of underlying frustration in his smooth voice.
Your own gaze trails up and over him, taking in the exasperation and exhaustion that furrows the brow of his otherwise stoic expression-- you want to ask when he last got a full night's rest? If he was still doing his lone warrior, Darknight Hero routine? If he was as stubborn as ever shouldering the burden of his fervor desire to defend and protect. Oh, how you worry, worry and worry the weight of it all on your tongue, tightening your throat-- who takes care of you? Who stands by your side? Who defends you? Who protects you? Who lov-
Once upon a time it had been you but a vortex of mourning, sorrow, rage swallowed up your old life. Until you wanted nothing more than to never see the walls of Mondstadt ever again. One day leaving it all behind. Time was a cruel mistress, one day swiftly grew to years. The first time you returned from what would become regular disappearances--adventures.
Damage had been done. Diluc was the one who reached out to savage your friendship and you had welcomed the chance to have him back in your life even if it would never be anything more.
"Should I be honored that the gentleman Ragnvindr can even grace me with his company?" It's a hollow jest as you pick at your half eaten plate of food.
"No," His dismissal of the notion is soft yet firm. "Just Diluc, a friend, who is glad to see you well again." It's never his straight-forward or blunt nature that catches you off guard, it's when the subtle but clear sincerity creeps to the surface. Open, unwavering in his honesty.
You huff, looking down feigning disinterest yet the twitch of your lips is undeniable. Warmth, simple, gentle curls in your chest. Happiness. Flickering embers outside of the stone walls of your heart that would make Rex Lapis proud. Diluc had always been able to slip past your defenses, so easily lingering in your thoughts, in your heart. Whether he was aware of it or not.
"I suppose I am glad to see you too. Saved me a few bottles of my favorite wine?" You ask glancing up to catch his watchful gaze, biting your bottom lip as a wide smile threatened to spread on your face. Dulic's sudden raised eyebrow says it all-- do you really need to ask?
"Four pristine bottles of aged mixed sunsettia, valberry wine." Prideful is subtle and delicate in his voice as if Diluc would ever forget your favorite wine. Funny enough to think about how even as the unspoken king of the winery industry, he doesn't enjoy alcohol himself. Still keeping a stock of your favorite in his manor.
"You never let me pay you and we can't really share a few glasses together, so," you hum, slowly wired up with nervous yet excited anticipation as you reach down into the bag hanging off your shoulder. Shifting through the items and materials you carried with you for cooking and crafting you find it! Grabbing a slender jug of a bottle, wrapped in cloth. Swiftly placed on the table in front of Diluc. "I brought something for you."
It's not like grape juice is such a hard find or something Diluc could not afford himself with his abundance of wealth but you had commissioned a famous brewer to make a special blend of grapes and other berries to create a rich and sweet juice. With your own Mora to spare after a few jobs, and you had a feeling your wandering would lead back to Mondstadt.
Diluc is steady, slow with peeling back the cloth to stare at the deep, dark purple liquid filling the glass bottle. Uncorking the bottle, Diluc takes a whiff, closing his eyes, the smile that graces his face. It's everything and so much more. "It smells delicious. Thank you, I can't wait to taste it."
"Then we should begin our walk to the manor? I can hear my wine calling me." You leave a few Mora coins as a tip, standing up, Diluc presses the cork back into the bottle and hands it back to you for safe keeping.
"Alright," Diluc nods, following, matching your stride with ease. "Adelinde was asking about you the other day, you know she always makes sure your room is tidy, spotless in fact."
Stupid. How one little phrase has your stomach full of crystal flies like you are a teenager all over again. And the mention of the kind maid who still fusses over Diluc and you on occasion makes you happy. It is a nice reprieve from nights of solitude, you are content to travel alone but loneliness is a creature that waits, and waits until the right moment to sink its claws and fangs into you on the road.
The walk from Mondstadt isn't far but you aren't expecting a fully pleasant and peaceful walk with Diluc. Outside of the gates of the city and a few minutes down the dirt road, the sight of Hilichurls is predictable.
Small pack of fighters, five Hilichurls carrying clubs and one hulking Mitachurl with a shield. This should be fun.
"Make sure to show me how playing the part of the nighttime hero has kept your skills sharp!" You yell with a laugh, grinning as you summon your sword, forged of dragon bone, jagged, fierce blade. Rushing forward you dodge past the throw Pyro slimes.
You let yourself run a little wild, your Electro vision surge through you, bolts of lightning crash down on the charging Hilichurls. Shocking and stunning the monsters for a moment, that's all you need to unleash a flurry of fast slashes.
A loud, enraged howl, crashing stomps approach from your back. Anyone else would need to worry or doubt--you don't. The familiar roar and rumble of flames fills the air, the scorning heat of it nipping behind you. Diluc doesn't even let that Mitcahurl so much as graze you, his grunts and shouts clash with its growl and howls as his flame imbued blade breaks and burns through the beast's wooden shield. Leaving ashes flying in the air and the heavy smell of smoke and fire.
You electrify the Hilichurls, slowing, paralyzing the small beasts until they are left vulnerable and weak against you. The perfect targets. You cleave one's head off, stab straight through the mask of another, impale the chest of another. Delivering killing blows with precision and force. Wiping them out, you turn in time to see the beauty of Diluc.
Rapid, graceful, relentless, ferocity embraced in unyielding flames. The towering giant Hilichurl is left staggering, stumbling under the strikes of Diluc's claymore left all too unprotected without its shield to hide behind. Diluc turns up the heat quite literally, the soaring, blazing phoenix that emerged from his own vision and will, his flames destroy the Mitcahurl, wiping out its pitiful existence effortlessly.
Diluc shakes a bit of lingering flames and smoke off the steel of his blade with a sweeping slash at the air, standing among darkened, black grass, a gust of wind sways his hair and he looks over his shoulder. It is surely a moment deserving of immortalizing in portrait, his bright red hair blowing in the wind, holding his greatsword in one hand, sunlight giving him an ethereal glow, gazing at you.
Giving a slow applause, you whistle and laugh. "Flashy as ever, Diluc."
"The pyro element leaves little room for anything else. Still it's efficient and powerful," Diluc turns to face you, letting go of the hilt of his sword as it vanishes, unneeded outside of battle. "However, it's not something you could critique me on, when anyone for miles could see your lightning."
"Fair enough."
Besides a few stray slimes, the rest of your walk is undisturbed, reaching the winery as nightfall, the sun dipping below the horizon.
"(Name) it is good to see you well." Adelinde smiles upon seeing you as Diluc opens the front door and holds it open for you to walk in first. She hugs you, it's hard not to melt into her tight cradle.
"Have you been eating well? Sleeping accordingly? Not just naps. Taking breaks in between all your monster hunting?" Her lovingly stern questions always feel comforting in a way that is odd to describe and felt deeply.
"I am still standing, Adelinde, fully rested and my stomach is full at the moment."
"You would do well to keep it as such." Adelinde levels you with a motherly look of if you do not take care of yourself, I will which should be hard to make look threatening but the older woman handles it with years of expertise. She has worried over guests, Diluc, Kaeya, you for many, many years in the pact and many to come you are certain.
"Adelinde, please have the bottles of sunsettia, valberry wine brought up, we-"
"One step ahead of you, Master Diluc. Hillie and Moco brought them up a short while ago, I hope you two enjoy your time together." Adelinde leaves the manor, you aren't sure what work needs to be done on the grounds, you know for a fact Adeline specifically tries to do outside chores during daylight hours. It's an obvious tell for someone who knows her, she is ensuring you and Diluc remain alone for now. An avid supporter of your friendship you suppose.
Diluc barely gets to call out a 'thank you!' as she is shutting the door.
You stroll across the room, not much has changed at all. Your destination is the furniture set by the fireplace, the small, round table paired with two cushioned chairs. Pulling out the bottle of juice to place on the table top next to the bottles of wine, to cups awaiting you both.
Pouring your first cup, you are eager, excited to taste the almost sickeningly sweet flavor of the wine. It never seems to taste the same from any other winery or brewery or even in the company of others.
Moments of comfortable quiet drift by as you slowly, steadily sip and savory the wine.
When Diluc takes the first taste of your gift and his low moan of approval as he swallows. Oh. You could listen to that again and again. All husky, raspy delight that sends shivers down your spine. It feels good to bring any kind of bliss to Diluc, even the simplest kind by providing him a drink he loves.
You get the mutual feeling of being watched as you drink, sighing and smiling at the taste, the feeling of nostalgia creeps up on you.
"I remember the first time I tasted this wine. We were barely teenagers sneaking down into the cellar. I badly wanted to try the wine everyone in Mondstadt wouldn't shut up about," you recall it interrupting yourself with short, full breaths of levity. Far too amused by the memory to contain your laughter. "I- I asked. No- begged you to come down with me while your father was gone, saying I'd bring Kaeya instead if you didn't come, bluffing and you got as red as a flaming flower, grabbed my hand and pulled me all the way to the cellar and downstairs."
Diluc huffs, crossing his arms over his chest, leaning back into the cushions of the sofa. "You knew how to push my buttons too well, half of the stuff I let you talk me into was completely foolish." Staring into the lit fire as he listened to you.
"Just half?"
"Fine. All of the escapades I let you drag me along on were absurd."
"Your welcome as I recall you had a lot of fun."
"At the risk of a lot of trouble, you tested the lengths of even my father's generous patience." Diluc shook his head, the fondness in expression was plain as day.
"Oh, remember the night after getting my gliding license, I dared you to join me on top of the cathedral to see which of us could get farther across the city, and you landed in a bush!" Several glasses of wine, one empty bottle of the tart and sweet berry alcohol and you felt even more relaxed, comfortable in the company of Diluc.
"I, at the very least, remained dry. You were the one who crash-landed right into the fountain." Diluc smirked, sharp, sly as he chuckled, lightly tugging and adjusting the fabric of his gloves. Idle gestures as his cup stays on the table after a few sips.
"I would rate my dive undoubtedly ten out of ten." By the Archons, it had been a miracle you both escaped from the knights of Favonius night patrol with the commotion you made, wet leather boots on stone top made you slip a few times in your dash to escape discovery. Diluc had kept a firm grip on your arm, tugging you back up and refusing to leave you behind.
Then you remember, hiding away, pressed chest to chest, the chill of your soaked clothes clinging to you, the rise and fall of heavy, labored breaths. How close Diluc had been, that smokey, fiery scent that having pyro vision gifted him along with faint aroma of fruit thanks to the orchard of the dawn winery, he worked with his father on occasion. If you had just tilted your head up, leaned in--
"I know Kaeya was always jealous. I could talk you into anything but you refused his antics left and right."
"It's different. I actually like you and spending time with you." Diluc's deadpan response pulls a ugly snort-laugh from you. His relationship with Kaeya is an odd one but you know deep down he cares for his brother even if things aren't exactly civil between them.
"I feel so special."
"As you should, I don't like people." His sarcasm, that is half-joke, half-truth keeps you laughing.
The first wave of tiredness hits you, letting out an involuntary yawn. Your travels, the trek and fight from earlier catch up with you. Combined with the consumption of alcohol.
"I think the wine is getting to me, I feel a little sleepy." You finish off your glass with one gulp, smooth like silk down your throat, the lack of burn makes it far too easy to want to empty all the bottles. Four. You'd certainly regret that in the morning.
"I noticed." Diluc gets up first, three steps towards you, he is holding out his hand to you.
"I can walk myself, I am not that drunk." You protest his offer while reaching out and taking his hand, entwining your fingers without a second thought. Diluc gives your hand a squeeze, his slender fingers lightly caressing the back of your hand. He guides you upstairs to your room as if you don't know the way by heart as if your room would ever change.
"You would never ask for help yourself and you did break a vase the last time, even the smallest bit of intoxication seems to make you clumsier." Diluc gives his clear and absolutely unfair opinion. It happened one time!
It is really not necessary either to open the door for you, letting go of your hand only to press the large, warm palm of his hand against your back. Nor does Diluc need to kneel before you as you sit on the edge of the bed, unfastening your boots, removing your satchel and placing your belongings on the bedside table.
"It is hilarious to hear you of all people, calling me out of not asking for help. Mister Darknight."
Dliuc 'tsks' at the mention of his beloved hero name. "I am aware, that can be a little hypocritical."
"A little?"
"(Name)," Diluc speaks your name so tenderly, softly, as if the word itself is precious. "I simply want to help you, to car-" He clears his throat cutting off that train of thought. Pausing for seconds of silence pass, crimson eyes staring into your own. "If there was anyone I would accept help from it would be you."
That is dangerously close to an admission of something else. And all every moment of the past, all the maybe(s), what-ifs, almost(s) flash through your mind. You could take the leap or let this become another memory to turn over and over in your head, wondering, wanting, yearning.
"Get some rest." Diluc walks over to the door, standing in the open threshold of the room, hand gripping the door knob.
"Diluc, wait" It's barely a whisper, so hushed and subdued. So low, he doesn't hear it and when Diluc looks over his shoulder, the short-lived courage in you has diminished and you can't bring yourself to voice all the longing, desire, love trapped in your heart.
"Goodnight, Diluc."
"Goodnight, (Name)."

Prologue
The start of the story. Beej and Pate are in for a ride . . .
@werwulfy @rainingpaint
Beetlejuice sat on the balcony, feet on the railing, smoking a cigarette. Pate wasn’t incredibly fond of him smoking, but let him do it out here at least. In further deference to her, he tended to sneak a smoke after she’d gone to bed and was deep asleep. It wasn’t an addiction for him, he just liked having the ability to draw a breath and have bitter smoke in his lungs, and to be able to see the ash burn because of that breath. A little bit of faux life, that flame.
He sent clouds of white smoke into the atmosphere. Thinner, more defined trails of smoke twisted from the lit tip of the cigarette, and with a little concentration, he could make them into wispy caricatures of Sandworms.
The night was peaceful; it was so late few cars passed by and all the residential windows were dark. There was some light pollution from the city, and the moon was half full, so only the brightest stars were visible but not much more. Insect chirps seemed loud until they simply became white background noise. There was a faint bite of chill to the air, but he barely felt it. Idly he contemplated lighting up another cigarette after this one was gone.
A rough gasp startled him. Clipping its heels came a second plus a moan that sounded more frightened than any he liked to hear from Pate’s mouth. Beetlejuice kicked his feet off the railing, pushed himself up, and flicked the still lit butt of the smoke over the edge of the balcony all in one motion, hurrying back inside.
“Pate? Baby?” he said quietly beside the bed.
She didn’t hear him still lost in sleep.
That didn’t stop her continued fear, now complete with half-muttered words and twitching that was almost but not quite like struggling against restraints.
Beetlejuice hated this. Although sporadic, these episodes had become more frequent for her, and he was never able to rouse her when she was caught in their web.
With a flick of a thought he dropped his suit with the exception of the cotton briefs he wore underneath--typically he didn’t just wish clothing away, finding the act of undressing or being undressed a sweet precursor to gettin’ it on--but his lover was asleep and said gettin’ it on was the last thing on his mind at the moment.
Slipping back under the blankets with her, Beetlejuice pressed against her and tried to hold her, even as she now struggled against him, as he had learned she would.
“Pate, baby, hey,” he muttered uselessly, in a soothing voice. He’d also learned she never heard him, but he felt like he had to do something against these night terrors that wrecked her sleep. “It’s okay, baby, I’m right here, I’ve got you--”
He stroked her hair and pressed light kisses to her forehead occasionally. She flinched away from them with new gasps of fear, and he wondered what it was she saw and felt when he kissed her. One blessing--or curse?--of these nighttime episodes is that she never remembered them once she woke. She was exhausted the following day, but whatever haunted her fled at dawn.
Beetlejuice wasn’t looking forward to the day it no longer hid.
Pate’s words still made no sense. Sweat broke out on her forehead and tears fell from her closed eyes. Gently, the specter wiped them away, still whispering ineffectual platitudes to her.
Eventually--time was still a slippery concept for him; it could have been five minutes or an hour--she calmed. As much as he’d like to think he helped, Pate did it on her own. Her breathing slowed, her trembling stopped, the half-formed words on her lips died. The rapid pulse he felt returned to normal, now that she wasn’t fighting or running from her dreams. She eased back into sleep and no longer jumped when he kissed her.
He’d let her sleep as long as she wanted. He’d tell her about the episode when she woke up later. They needed to do something about this. His own poking around for answers had yielded nothing; he was going to have to either expand his search or they needed to talk to someone else who may be able to help.
That could all be later. Right now he only stayed pressed against Pate, still holding her, wishing he could protect her from these visitations and feeling inept that he couldn’t.

Brother Mao: It's soooo god-damned hot out today! A new coffee shop opened down the east street with huge grand opening sales. Come on, come on, everyone grab your share!
Brother Mao had just returned to the office after completing his out of office assignment. He didn't even have a minute to spare to put the bag of goodies down, only wiping his sweat before giving said goodies out to everyone.
MC: Thank you, Brother Mao!
Brother Mao waved his hand in dismissal and threw the neatly folded plastic bag into the bin, only for his eyes to suddenly stop on the handle of the door. He incredulously widened his eyes.
Brother Mao: Since when did our door handle get all fixed up?
Tumblr media
Li Man'man: No idea. It was already fixed when I came in in the morning.
Tumblr media
Hao Shuai: Sister Zheng Lin, did you nag at the administrative department for this?
Tumblr media
Zheng Lin: She fixed it. I saw her fiddling around with it when I clocked in this morning.
Zheng Lin retrieved her documents from the photocopier and jerked her chin at me.
Brother Mao: So this is our beloved heroine of the day! Do humbly pardon me!
MC: I'm the one who broke it after all. Plus, it didn't take that long to fix anyway.
Brother Mao poked his head in front of me, curiously twirling the sleeve of the formal dress I was currently fixing up and doing corrections on.
Brother Mao: You're changing it up that much again? You don't have to reply to me, but you're adding these butterflies? That's real creative! ...And they're all made of twisted metal wire?
MC: Yeah. I started out using soft tulle mesh, but it was all droopy and didn't seem very nice for wings that are supposed to look powerful and lively.
Brother Mao: Now not only does this give it a dynamic feel, but also brings about a romantic yet cruel one!
Brother Mao: Not bad, not bad! Keep at it, and you'll definitely be able to finish fixing it up before next week!
Tumblr media
MC: But the Deadline got brought forward… She's going to be doing the fitting tomorrow morning, so I have to finish it by today...
Brother Mao: No way! Don't tell me it's that agent again...
He glanced around, checking that no one had their attention turned to us, before leaning down to my ear.
Brother Mao: I asked around about it earlier, and I heard that the agent has a pretty foul temper.
Brother Mao: Not just to the staff, but her daughter as well. She'll start scolding people at the drop of a hat, even if they did nothing!
It felt as if I could hear the piercing and horrid lashing from that day resounding in my ears again. Her words had been ingrained into my very brain like a needle stuck into a pincushion.
Brother Mao: Geez, Lin Yao's such a brilliant kid. What's there for her to be so unhappy about?
Brother Mao: My mom always told me not to blame myself, and that health always comes first, whenever I fail the promotion. She even said that if I couldn't make it big, then I could just go back home and she'd raise me.
MC: I don't know either. Maybe all these feelings we take for granted come on a conditional basis for her, I guess.
He'd stared at the table and spaced out for a long while. It was almost as if he'd retreated into his memory palace as his expression turned a little sad.
Tumblr media
Brother Mao: I'll help you twist them into shape too. Just treat it as my way of thanking her for helping us get out of the pickle we found ourselves in that day.
MC: Okay.
Time passed silently, and it wasn't till nightfall that we finished our work. The office had already cleared out a long time ago, and sporadic stars glimmered in the ink-blue sky up above.
Brother Mao: Done!
I nodded at him in gratitude and kept the now completed dress away. That was when a message notification popped up onto my phone screen.
Housing Agent: Miss (Y/n), don't forget that we're supposed to sign the agreement today at 8 PM. Be there or be square!
Brother Mao: What's wrong?
MC: I'm supposed to go check out the new apartment I'm getting with my agent at 8 PM today, and sign the agreement if all goes well.
And the time displayed on my phone right now was… 7:28 PM.
MC: I should run! Thanks for today, Brother Mao! I'll treat you to food next time!
Grabbing my bag and my work ID, I made a mad dash downstairs.

Tumblr media
I thought that I'd make it there right on the dot if I'd left now, but who knew that the taxi-hailing app had 80+ people waiting in line! Seeing as how the app wasn't an option anymore, all I could do was to run to the nearest taxi stand.
MC: Why's it not here yet…?
I paced back and forth at the stand, but no taxi ever made an appearance. Just as my anxiousness was about to reach a tipping point, a black sports car drew to a stop before me. The car's windscreen slowly rolled down.
MC: ...Evan?
Tumblr media
Evan: Waiting for a ride? Headed somewhere?
MC: Yeah. I'm going to take a look at an apartment. The place I'm renting right now is too far from here, so it isn't terribly convenient.
Evan: Location?
MC: Guangqi-Century City.
He slightly inclined his head, glancing at his watch before getting out of his car and opening the door to the passenger seat for me.
Evan: Get on. I'll send you there.
Tumblr media
★Night Choice: Turn him down
MC: No need. I'd be causing you too much trouble.
Evan leaned his arm atop the door of the car, beaming as he looked at me.
Evan: Not at all.
Evan: Besides, I don't have anything on tonight. On the other hand, you seem like you're in quite the rush.
Evan: It'll be bad if you end up late for it because you dawdled here.
His eyes were filled with such sincerity that it made me feel like I'd be doing him a disservice if I refused.
I eventually nodded, seeing as there was no way I could shimmy myself out of this without feeling bad about it.
MC: Thanks.
Tumblr media
☆Light Choice: Accept his offer
I glanced back at the taxi stand. It didn't seem like a taxi was coming anytime soon. And I'd really be late if I didn't get a suitable ride soon…
MC: Thanks. Don't mind if I do then.
8 PM, right on the dot. We reached the entrance of the housing estate where the agent was already waiting.
MC: Here it is. Thank you for this! I'll treat you to a meal someday!
Evan: Sure.
❖☆———————————★❖
Tumblr media
I hurriedly got out of the car as the two agents quickly rushed up to me upon seeing me.
Agent A: You have a good eye, Miss! This apartment's a hot favourite! 10 over people booked slots to come check it out the moment the listing went up!
Agent B: We've kept this apartment for you till now since you seemed especially keen on it!
Agent A: Let's get the contract agreement signed tonight if there are no problems lest it keeps you up at night!
MC: Sorry, but I'll still have to confirm with you again later. Let's go check the house out first.
Tumblr media
Both agents sidled up side by side, enthusiastically explaining and introducing things to me on either side as they urged me forwards.
Thud.
The sound of a door closing behind me made me turn, only to see that Evan hadn't left, and had gotten out of his car.
MC: ?
Evan: I'll go with you.
The agents continued their endless stream of marketing chatter as they pointed out every selling point of the apartment.
Agent A: —And that's all from us. If you sign the agreement contract today, then we can persuade the landlord to give us a little discount...
MC: Okay, then I'll-
Evan: Sorry, but we'll think it through a little more. Could you recommend us some other apartments as well? Sorry about that.
I looked at him in surprise, but he gently shook his head. Hence, I calmed my initial excitement down and turned down their request to have the contract immediately signed.
❖☆———————————★❖
The night was already deep into the throes of darkness by the time we returned to the car park.
The riverbank was coloured with streams of yellow light from the streetlamps above in picturesque disorder. I could smell the refreshing scent of blooming greenery that hung in the air.
Tumblr media
MC: Was something wrong with the apartment earlier?
Evan: I don't think you'd like to stay in an apartment filled with construction noises, yes?
MC: But I didn't hear anyone renovating anything?
It was only after the words left my mouth that I realized something.
MC: Oh, right. It's nighttime right now, so all the construction workers should be off work by now… Still, how did you know?
Tumblr media
Evan: I noticed that there were paint stains at the edge of the neighbouring apartment's door frame upon entering, and it looked rather fresh too.
Evan: Plus, that housing estate was built 10 years ago, yet the elevator has its interiors boarded up with temporary protective boards.
Evan: So, I'd garner that the neighbouring apartment's most likely, not the only one undergoing renovation recently.
MC: I'd never have realized if you didn't point it out…
Evan: And adding on to that, I observed the surroundings a bit when we entered the housing estate and the security personnel stationed nearby seemed rather sparsely spread.
Evan: So it wouldn't be too safe for you to be staying here alone.
MC: Yeah…
Evan continued talking about the pros and cons of the apartment as the enchanting lights from above reflected in his eyes, melding into the smile that wavered within.
MC: You're so knowledgeable when it comes to this. Did you rent an apartment before?
Although, for someone with his family background, he shouldn’t ever need to rent an apartment on his own.
However, Evan nodded, affirming my suspicions.
Tumblr media
Evan: I’ve rented a couple of places for my company back when I was in university.
MC: You mean, the company you founded back when you were studying in Lordton?
Evan: You know of it?
MC: I’ve heard of it before! It’s truly a legendary tale!
Evan: Looks like I’ll have to personally clear up the rumours for you then. It wasn’t exactly a smooth experience.
Evan: I, too, encountered a great many difficulties that I hadn’t thought of before during my first time renting an office.
Evan: For example, unreliable agents. The relevant renting procedures never came to pass for a long time due to that.
Evan: Hence, the office wasn’t ready even if all the employees were already in place.
Evan: And another example would be poor property management, with robberies aplenty as a result.
Evan: Also, I had no choice but to take drastic action and relocate the entire office to a new location since I hadn’t initially considered office expansion.
MC: Wow, I never knew that starting a business would be so hard. You’re amazing to have done it!
❖☆———————————★❖
Suddenly, my phone vibrated.
Tumblr media
[Guangqi Rental] Whole apartment for lease. Felin Avenue, 199 Street. 1 bedroom and 1 living room. [Guangqi Rental] Whole apartment for lease. Changle Heights. 1 bedroom and 1 living room.
It was the agent, recommending me a couple more apartments.
[Guangqi Rental] How about any of these?
MC: Now that's way too many…
Evan: You can forward them to me if you don't mind. I can check them out with you.
Tumblr media
Evan: I might not be very experienced in this, but nothing will go wrong with having another person to think it through with.
MC: Thank you, Evan.
The night breeze blew past, gently ruffling the loose hairs that had fallen out of place in front of Evan’s forehead.
Evan: We've been talking for so long that I forgot that it's already 9 PM. Are you hungry? Do you want to eat anything?
MC: I said I'd treat you! How about we do it now?
MC: Is there anything you'd like to eat?
Evan: Just pick anything you want to eat. I'm fine with anything.
MC: Don't say that! I'm going to need a proper answer from you today.
Evan: Alright then. I'd prefer for it to be something cooling, if possible.
MC: Hmm… Something cooling?
I glanced around, my eyes sweeping past the signboards of teahouses, food stalls, fast food outlets… until it finally stopped on an old and aged sign that stood not too far away.
MC: I know! Wait for me for a while!
❖☆———————————★❖
Tumblr media
MC: Auntie! Can I get two servings of red bean ice and two servings of fruit soup?
Many customers surrounded the small shop. The owner stirred the pot of soft red beans, filling the air with a delectably rich scent of sweetness.
Due to the auntie being the only one manning the store, the demand for the red bean ice far exceeded the available supply. Hence, I had to wait for quite a while before my order finally got done.
Just as I happily took the icy delights from her, the pitter-patter of rain sounded from behind.
The rain came down hard and vicious.
The raindrops that pelted against the roof were akin to silver metal wires, trapping me within the confines of the narrow eaves.
With no other option in sight, I held the two cups of icy treats to my chest using my wrist and freed a hand to shoot Evan a message to inform him of my predicament.
However, before I could fish out my phone… a silhouette had come to a stop before me. He put the umbrella away.
Tumblr media
MC: I was just about to ping you. What are you doing here?
Evan didn’t say anything, only smiling gently as he took the icy treats from my arms, quietly standing by my side.
Evan: The rain should cease soon. Let's wait together.
MC: ...Okay.
The curtain of rain secluded us in our own little world, and the puddles, reflecting the neon lights of the signboard above, rippled from the night breeze of summer.
And like a domino effect, this soft and gentle ambience made our moods calmer and much more relaxed in turn.

The bell chimes from the door. Without missing a beat I continue welding the derby car in front of me. It doesn't take a genius to realize who is here at such a ridiculous hour. Tenna just has to wait till I'm finished fixing up Bruce's dumpster car. Sparks fly off the dented pieces of metal, splashing around in wonderous fireworks. If the sight wasn't a norm I'd almost consider its beauty. As I lower the flame to judge my work I see Tenna sitting on the couch across from me. I try not to look at him, knowing the second he has my attention I'm done for. I can kiss getting this done before tomorrow morning goodbye.
I try my damndest to ignore him, just finishing off the line before I can bother thinking about him. It's a hard task as I already feel anxious with him watching me. His stare picks at me till I'm honestly fighting the urge to look up. It's like he has some gravity to him that I'm drawn to.
"Damn it," I sigh. I turn off the torch and slam it on the hood of the Junker. I snap my helmet covered eye to him, seeing that infuriating smirk on his skull-like face. He has to know what that does to me. Tenna is an annoying little tick that has no business getting under my skin the way he does. His constant presence and never-ending teasing will be my undoing one day.
But damn if I don't love him for it.
Slamming my helmet up I glare at him," Have any idea what time it is?"
"10:34pm exactly," he spreads his arms wide on the couch headrest," is that a problem?"
Scoffing at his know-it-all look I toss the helmet on top of the car with the welding torch. I walk over to my workbench, picking up a used rag to wipe my face. Glancing over at Tenna I catch him staring, his legs spreading wide in an 'I'm powerful' pose. I roll my eyes as my heart flutters. How dare he.
"What do you need this time, Tenna," I ask, cutting to the chase.
"Haven't seen you in nearly a week and all you've got to say is 'you know what time it is' and 'what do you need this time'," he mocks my voice," can't I just come to see my favorite mechanic?"
I look deadpan to him," I've known you for nearly two years, not once have you just come to visit me. So I'll ask one more time, what do you need?"
He drops the act quickly, his shoulders sagging as he leans forward," Ricky Bower accidentally knocked me on my ass last week, and ever since I've been losing feeling to my hands." he raises his palms upwards, clenching his hand into fists. "It's strange and I'd greatly appreciate your help," he attempts to be kind as he asks. Knowing I can't ever say no to this idiot I motion him over to the bench.
Tenna hops up with a pep in his step. I watch him snatch the roller chair from beside the car, bringing it over before plopping down. Holding my hands out he sets his gently over them. I take the moment to feel his lightly warmed metal and leathery palms. His body has fascinated me for as long as I've known him. Having great knowledge in most things that deal with metal and wires I have never really understood how someone can make life like him. He is amazing.
Shaking out of my exploration I trace my fingers over his palm, looking up to him. "Feel that," I ask.
"Nope," he pops the P. I pinch at his fingers, digging my nail into the springy synthetic.
"That?"
"Why all the testing? I told you I can't feel a thing," he snaps. I grind my teeth at his tone, tempted to drop the task. I don't need him charging in here and demanding a fix. Scoffing I give into my petty ire and push his hands away.
"Alright, Mr. Know-it-all, fix your damn self," I hop out of my chair, ready to abscond to my office to pout like a lovesick teen. Before I can make it a step he snatches my wrist, tugging me back.
"Fine, fine," he sighs," I'm sorry. Will you please ignore my pitiful outbursts, I'm just a tad frustrated not being able to feel anything." his gaze drops to where he Is holding me, rubbing his thumb across my skin. He huffs.
I snatch my hand out of his," Fine, but one more and I'm kicking ya out."
"Wouldn't expect anything less," he smirks.
I grab his hand again, trailing my hands to his forearm where I open a panel. The underside of his arm pops off easily. Having replaced this very piece long before it no longer stays connected. I set it off to the side. I expertly look over his wires and parts. It all looks to be working fine, I dig my fingers in to investigate deeper.
"So what did Ricky do again," I ask, filling the silence as I work. I feel him shrug as his arm jostles in my hands.
"That dumb son of a bitch was wobbling on his way out the bar. Being the kind soul I am-" I roll my eyes,"-I walked him home. As he nearly caves his head in on the street I grab him, trading places with him as the dumb son of a bitch to cave his head in on the street." I snort at the image. The all graceful Tenna falling headfirst into the pavement like a drunkard. The scene replays in my mind as I snap my eyes up to him.
"So it's your head, not your arm," I bark as I grab the panel and click it back to place. Standing, I snatch his head and tug it towards me. He hovers close to my bosom but I'm far too distracted with tearing off the cranium plating to care.
"Very grabby today," he chuckles. I toss the panel to the bench and dig through the countless wires to reach where the small dent on the back of his head is. The protective layer that sits on the back of his head is pressing too hard on his processor. The wires are detached and loose. I scoff, pleased but annoyed at finding the issue. What an idiot for going a week without coming in.
I try to take a step away from him to grab my wire welding set but I'm held in place. Confused, I look to the hands holding my hips. Tenna looks up, quickly letting go and sliding back with the chair.
"Sorry," he coughs," you kept bumping me and I-uhh- yep." I stare for a moment, squinting at his strange behavior before I run off to my office.
I fix up his head, pleased as can be as I shut the panel back. Plopping down onto my chair I hold my palms out again. I gesture him forward. He drops his hand unceremoniously onto mine.
"Have you always been this warm," he asks, pressing his palm against mine.
"Does it feel different," I ask worried I screwed something up. I'm no genius in the ways of advanced robotics. He doesn't answer, trailing his hands over my wrist. Growing curious he abandons my hands and cups my cheeks. His fingers pet over my nose and under my eye. Smoothing down my eyebrows as I tense.
"What are you doing," I slowly recoil from his touch though it feels so welcoming. His thumbs grace the corners of my eyes as he smiles sweetly to himself.
"I can feel the crow's feet, ya fixed me again, doc," he jokes. I slap his hands away, insulted at the insinuation that I have crow's feet. He laughs, letting me walk away in a huff.
Tenna
I left her place later than I intended, leaving her asleep on the couch. Heading out of her scrap yard I make my way down the road towards my home. Passing many closing bars and dark alleys. I manage to get out of the dumpster fire that is downtown to get to my humble abode out of the city. It's not a far walk, a decent enough journey to a sweet little place in a sweet little neighborhood.
I trot up the steps, the door unlocking at my proximity. Stepping into the living room I find Ricky asleep on the couch similar to Valerie. Quietly I make my way to my room, flipping the light on to look at the large messy room. I step over the clutter of junk, passing by my vanity. Stopping for a moment I admire the dent on the back of my head, wincing at it.
"Didn't have to hit so hard," I grunt.
Quickly completing my nighttime rituals I plug myself in and power down for the night.
The next morning I sit in the kitchen, reading on my tablet as Ricky steps in. He's a half-dressed, sloppy man, sorting through the fridge.
"How did last night go," he asks. I sigh, dropping the tablet to the table.
"Pretty good actually. She fixed me up quickly, got to even hold her for that bit, and we talked afterward. You know Gilbert stiffed her the forty he owed her for fixing up his Camry," I answer. He grunts in answer, chugging milk like the slob he is. I grimace at the white trickle going down his neck. With a satisfied gasp, he wipes his face.
"Did you actually get anywhere this time or did you play annoying best friend again," he asks.
"No," I cross my arms," I didn't plan to do anything anyways."
Ricky snorts," wimp."
"Hey," I bark," I'm not a wimp. I'm just a good guy trying not to ruin a good thing going for me."
"yea," he shrugs," a wimp."
I pout, grumbling under my breath as I try to think of something clever to say. Ricky just snorts again, heading towards the cupboards for a snack.
"Just go for it, you beating around the bush just leaves time for her to find someone better. She puts up with your stupid injuries that you cause just as an excuse to see her. Nut up and make a move," he suggests. I can't help but chuckle at the pun. It trails off as I grovel in self-pity some more.
"It's not that easy, Rick," I sneer," she can barely stand me, and asking for more than what we have would be me just ruining something good. If all I can get is once a week with her then I'll take it. She doesn't need some idiot pulling her back anyway."
Ricky glares at me but shakes it off as the argument goes in circles. I adore Valerie, ever since she first fixed me up. She's so snarky and kind, I couldn't help but adore her. But, I'm nothing special and I know she finds me tolerable at best. I sigh, slacking in the chair.
Valerie
Bruce stops by sometime this week to grab his Junker car for the derby this weekend. With the bit of money he gives me I have enough to splurge on some necessities for the shop. I spend my day off cleaning up and ordering pieces online. Though I'm one for always working I enjoy getting to calm it all down every Tuesday. No customers to argue with, pieces of shit cars to try to fix up. Just alone with some loud music.
I sweep the garage floor, startled at the bot standing by the front door. Jumping nearly out of my skin I pause the music and catch my breath. Tenna laughs at me as I hold my hand to my chest.
"If I wasn't mistaken I think I scared ya," he teases.
"Yea," I shout," not shit." Tenna gives me a moment to ease my racing heart before continuing his teasing.
"You humans are just so jumpy. Scared of your own shadow," he snickers.
I scoff, setting the broom aside," cause you're any better? I remember vividly you whimpering over me replacing the pistons on your back."
"Hey," he barks, pointing to me," being in pain and getting scared are two different things and I wasn't whimpering. If I was, it was because you don't have a gentle bone in your body."
I wave him off," excuses, excuses. What do you want anyway?"
Shoving his hands in his pockets he walks further into the shop," was just passing by and figured you could be of help in fixing the dent on the back of my head. You see, the ladies don't find the battle wound charming."
I snort," battle wound? Falling onto concrete sounds extremely heroic."
"Saving poor old men from cracking their skull on the sidewalk sounds pretty damn heroic," he defends himself. I smile, waving him over to the workbench.
"I'd recommend stopping with the 'heroics' though. You're in here nearly every week with some 'battle scars'," I scold halfheartedly. He sits down at the bench as I circle him to check out the dented metal on his head. Grabbing him and tilting him forward I see what I can do.
"Not my fault I'm such a good person," he grumbles. I snort, shaking my head.
I try just removing the dent the old fashion way, pulling it back into place. With that not working I remove the piece and try to hammer it back. That just makes it look worse. As all else fails I set out to make a new piece. I sort through some scrap I have mashed together in a milk crate. Jabbing myself on different bits of loose metal I find a sheet perfect enough to mold.
All the while I'm working I can feel Tenna's gaze on me. It makes me fumble with my work as I feel pressured by his attention. I want to seem smart and capable around him but he has a tendency to leave me flustered. I bite my cheek and try to think of something else while I cut the sheet of metal.
With the piece made I head back over, ready to try and perfect it. I stand behind him, tilting his head back down.
"Anything new lately," I ask him to fill the silence. He shrugs.
"I've been trying this new drink for bots, it's supposed to keep the inners all clean and oiled," he answers.
"Yea, how's it taste," I ask, knowing how picky he can be.
"Like shit. It's like they make us taste everything but won't put the effort into making things we can eat good," he huffs," it's almost insulting." I hum in answer. I lose track of the conversation for a bit as I walk off to smooth the edges so it can click into place.
"So Christmas is next week," I shout from across the shop.
"Yea, and?"
"What do you me 'yea, and', are you not doing anything," I ask.
He shrugs," what is there to do? Ricky is heading off to his parents then and I'm left alone till he comes back."
I nod in understanding. Ricky is Tenna's only friend. Though I have no room to talk, Tenna is my only friend. I fiddle with the piece in my hand as I ponder asking him to spend his holiday here. Surely that's a stupid question, why would he want to spend his day with me?
"Besides, it's a family holiday. As you know I lack in that department," he tries to joke. I swallow a comforting comment.
Walking around him again I set the piece, admiring the handiwork. I turn to the workbench for some spray paint to keep the color scheme. Though I've replaced most of his parts with scarp I do try to keep it presentable. I shake the can as I fight back the urge to invite him. It's a waste invitation, he wouldn't want to. I sigh.
"Tenna," I start, he hums," do you want to spend Christmas here with me?"
He straightens at the question, asking defensively," Why?"
"What do you mean why," I bite back.
"What do you mean 'what do you mean'? Why are you inviting me to your human celebration," he barks. I scoff, spraying the back of his head quickly.
"You're going to be alone and I thought it would be a nice thing for me to do," I answer.
"Oh, how giving of you. Don't put yourself out just for me," he folds his arms. I toss the can onto the desk, circling to his front.
"What is your problem, I'm just being nice," I sneer.
He glares up at me," I don't want the charity. I imagine you have better people to spend this time with."
"Oh yea, cause I'm drowning in friends right now. Got a family halfway across the country and no money to get to them. I'm spending this time of year alone and you of all people should know that," I shake my head, holding up my hand before he can speak," know what, never mind. Didn't know having to spend Christmas with me would be such a hassle."
His shoulders drop as he begins to stand," I didn't mean it like that, Val-"
I stop him," No, it's my fault. Should have known better. It's my bad." I turn on my heels and make my way to my office, Tenna trailing after me.
"Valerie, I didn't mean it that way. I was-," I interrupt him again.
"Fucking aye, Tenna, I get it," I snap," I fixed your stupid head, you can leave now."
Tenna tries to get in another word before I slam the door in his face. I stomp to the desk, collapsing in my chair as Tenna tries to knock on the door. His words are muffled but constant. I ignore him either way, stewing in my hurt feelings like a petulant child. Damn robots.
Tenna
I reluctantly leave her place, feeling like utter shit as I do. I hardly meant for it to come out like that but I couldn't help but get defensive. She wanted to spend her special holiday with me? Surely that had to be pity. I never want her pity, that alone stings more than anything.
I walk home, feeling the cold air more than before. Heading into my home I go straight for my room to stew in my ignorance for a little longer. Falling onto my bed I groan as I recall the conversation. How can I be such a fool? Rolling onto my side I rub at the new plate sitting on the back of my head. She always fixes me right up. Not once has she said no. I smile to myself before the image of the door slamming in my face came back. I groan again.
A while later I come out of my room to speak with Ricky, finishing with my moping for the time being. I find the slobby man lounged on the couch watching tv. Falling into the chair across from him I let out an exaggerated sigh. Ricky pretends to not notice so I do it again. With a roll of his eyes, he mutes the tv, turning to me with a fake smile.
"Hello, how may I help you," he says with great theatrics. I rest my cheek on my palm.
"Valerie's mad at me," I answer. Ricky tosses the remote down the couch, clenching his jaw.
"Yea? What did you do," he asks. I don't bother pretending I did no wrong.
"She asked to if I wanted to spend Christmas with her and I got all in my emotions about it," I grumble. Ricky scoffs, looking at me bemused.
"Your girl asks you to spend a holiday with her and you got pissy," he sits up, throwing his feet onto the floor," are you dense? Your girl asks you to spend time with her outside this stupid arrangement you two have and you don't immediately say yes and jump for joy?"
Well, when you say it like that I feel like more of an asshole. I lean forward and groan into my hands. I'm truly a fool.
"I couldn't help it. It felt like she was doing it because she felt bad and I couldn't handle her feeling like she had to do that," I clarify. Ricky barks out a humorless laugh, reaching over for a pillow and tossing it at me.
"You fucking idiot," he barks," what does it matter if she felt bad for you? If a girl wants you to spend time with her then the answer should always be yes!"
"I'm aware of that now," I shove the pillow aside," you know I suffer from lack of filter from brain to mouth."
He snickers," as do all men."
"so what should I do?"
Ricky stands from the couch," go back and apologies then kiss her like the lovesick fool you are."
"Be serious, please," I fall back against the chair. Ricky walks past, heading to the kitchen.
"I am. You keep beating around the bush and you need to be direct. Tell her how you feel- or better yet, show her how you feel- and then you two can get down to fucking like rabbits in her garage," he answers, shouting as he rounds into the kitchen. I stumble on my retort as I think about having my way with her in her shop. Her sweaty body against mine as I listen to her sweet cries of pleasure. I nearly short circuit at the thought, drooling if I could.
Ricky comes back in, hitting me on the head," Stop that, I don't wanna see if a robot can get a boner."
I shoo his hand away," shut up. That's a stupid plan."
He falls to the couch with his bowl of mixed snacks," compare to your year-long plan of injuring yourself I'd say it's fucking genius." I chuff, looking towards to tv in thought. They aren't stupid plans, they've worked every time. Even when she's been mad at me I've managed to get back in there to apologize with a well-placed missing wire. I snap my head to Ricky.
"There's an idea," I smirk," she has never said no so far." Ricky looks from the tv back to me, gawking before sneering.
"No," he points at me," don't chase that thought. For the love of God, just talk to her. You are making this harder than it has to be."
I rest my elbow on my knees," no, no. it will work. Just need your help trying to break something easily fixable and-"
"NO," he jumps up, slamming his bowl on the table," I'm not going to keep helping you hurt yourself just so you can go see her. I'm fucking done with this childish game. You need to get your shit together and talk to her like a damn adult."
I stare at him for a moment, caving quickly," but Ricky, just be a bro one more time. I promise I'll try to make some headway but for right now I just need to get her to talk with me and sh-"
"Tenna," he shouts," I can't keep doing this! I'm fucking done." he storms out the room. I shout after him, trying to plead before he slams his door. Huffing I fall back into the chair, looking to the space in thought. Well, that didn't work.
Valerie
I stew for the week, growing angrier as Christmas nears. The one time I try to reach out to him as more than his mechanic he shuts me down. How could I even hope for a second that he would see me more than that? Under the feeling of rage I have the weak sensation of disappointment and pain.
Wanting an actual friendship wasn't asking for much, right? It's not like I confessed my feeling, laying myself bare for him to judge and reject. It was a simple invitation for us both not to spend this time of year alone. I scoff, slamming my tools round harder than needed.
"Don't fucking need him anyway," I grumble," far too busy to spend Christmas with him." it's a lie but it does make me feel better. I can use the free time sorting through that horrendous filing cabinet. Yea, that's a good way to spend my day off.
I power through the week working on odd jobs, secretly holding out for Tenna to walk through the door. He never does though, staying away the whole week while I continue to stew. I don't miss him, no, far from it. It's just quiet around here, that's all. I sigh at the lie.
Christmas eve leaves me cold and alone. I try to work, keeping with the minor distractions till I'm just left numb. Some self-pampering is needed. I make myself a hot chocolate, sitting on my couch, and playing Christmas music throughout the shop. I mumble along to the overly repeated songs as I sip my drink, chewing on some marshmallows.
"Merry Christmas to me," I groan.
Nearly asleep I jolt awake at a pounding at my door. The cold leftover bit of cocoa spills on my blanket as my muddled brain tries to sort out what's happening. The pounding sounds again from the front entrance, followed by some shouting. Scared, I grab a tall wrench off the workbench as I head to the door. The second the entrance is inches open does the person on the other side barge in.
A sloppy-looking man charges in, carrying a tarp behind him. I scowl at the guy, barely noticing the heap of metal strewn across the blue tarp.
"Excuse me, what are you doing," I snap. The man lets go of the tarp with a heavy grunt.
"Help him," he glares down at the heap on the tarp. I finally take a moment to look, gasping at the sight.
"Tenna," I drop to my knees, grabbing at him. He is laid wrecked on the ground, not moving. The lights in his eyes are dim but still there. It's a minimal relief but the black scorch marks up his arms aren't.
"What happened, who are you, why is he-," I try to ask.
"He fucking shocked himself with a socket, and I'm Ricky. Now fix him so I can kick his ass when he's alright," the man growls. I nearly recoil at his volume but I can't look away from Tenna. Focusing, I grab at his arms, tearing off the panel to see the damage done. There are plenty of popped fuses, the wires leaving black marks where they meet. I reach in to find the most damage, throwing my hand back as the metal burns my fingers. I press my hand to his chest, wincing at the heat.
"He's overheating," I say as I jump up. I run over to my office, grabbing plyers and a screwdriver.
"Yea, what does that mean," Ricky asks, panicked. I shoo him aside, falling to my knees besides Tenna. Reaching for his torso again I slide his shirt up to his chest and begin to pry the plate off. Using the screwdriver I manage it easily. Looking at his bare inners I use the plyer to dig in the tiny hole near his artificial heart. I press the button deep down in there, turning him off. The light dims from his eyes as his body shuts down. The barely-there glow of his pupils is a faint relief.
"What are you doing," Ricky shouts," why did you turn him off, is he dead?"
I scoff," he isn't dead, or he better not be. I shut off most of his main functions so he can cool off while I fix the wires that he popped. He is technically still on but it's minor functions, mostly."
"Mostly," Ricky barks," can you fix him?"
"Of course I can fix him," I answer with false confidence. I think I can fix him. I'm sure as hell going to try because if this idiot dies on me I'm going to turn his body into a coffee machine. No, he won't get out of this that easy.
"yea, ok," Ricky answers, shaking a bit. Before I can start on Tenna I turn to Ricky.
"It's going to be ok, I got this. Why don't you grab my tools off the bench while you tell me what happened," I ask calmly. He nods, stumbling over to the bench while I pry off the plating on both arms. Ricky passes me the set, sitting down at Tenna's feet. I wait for him to start.
"I found him in his room after I heard a loud pop. I didn't think it came from him but when I saw him laid out jerking around on the floor I couldn't think. Gods," he rubs his face," I could kill him for putting me through that."
I rip the worn wires out, stripping them and re-welding them to his body," what did he do?"
Ricky scoffs, turning away," fucking shocking himself with the outlet. I swear, he is like a child sometimes." I scrunch my face up confused.
"Why would he do that," I ask.
"Because of you," he answers easily. I snap my attention to him, defensive and confused.
"Because of me?"
Ricky looks at me, fighting with himself before he reluctantly answers," this idiot has been making up every excuse to see you."
"So he shocked himself to see me," I ask, not really getting it.
"Shocked, maimed, dented, sabotaged. You name it, he had done it just so he had a reason to see you," he shrugs. I finish with one arm, leaving the plates off to let it cool. I start on the other side.
"Why would he do that," I wince as I burn my finger again. I feel Ricky's heavy gaze on me. Turning to him he sighs.
"Because he is in love with you and only idiots in love do stupid shit like this," he gestures to Tenna. I bark out a laugh, startling Ricky.
"No, that's not it. Why did he really do this," I shake my head amused. This hunk of junk couldn't be in love with me. That's funny in itself to assume such.
"He's in love with you. Has been since he met you," he answers. I scoff.
"I doubt that very much. He has been nothing but an ass, only coming to visit when he needs something. I consider him a good friend but I know he only sees me as his mechanic," I try to smile through the bitterness. Ricky laughs, throwing his head back as he busts a gut.
"Are you kidding me," he snickers," you two are exactly the same! Two idiots who just don't get the other."
I sneer, finishing up the wires before grabbing my soldering kit. Surely Ricky is mistaken, Tenna isn't in love with me.
"So, Valerie, are you in love with him," he asks with a big grin on his face. I fluster at the question, making him laugh again. "I fucking knew it. To think, I never met you and could tell you were as enamored with him as he is with you. If only he took my advice then you two would be spending your Christmas humping like lovesick teens," he chortles. I fluster more, wanting to roll up into a ball.
I solder the last wire, grumbling under my breath at everything. How can he go and do something like this? And just to get my attention? If what Ricky said is true then Tenna is more of an idiot than I thought. He never gave any hint that he liked me, let alone loved me. I spent the whole year feeling like shit because I adored this idiot, thinking he couldn't even give me a second glance. When he wakes up he is going to have an earful.
As I put away my tools I grab the plyers again. Stretching over his chest I press the thin tip into the hole, pressing the button. I wait for the telltale sign of his rebooting but there is nothing. I press it again, holding it before releasing. Nothing. Before I can push it again there is a loud drawn out beep.
"What's happening," Ricky jumps to attention. I don't answer, having the same question myself. Leaning over his body I stare into his eyes, the dim light extinguishing completely. My heart plummets, a cold chill running up my spine.
I jump up, bolting across the shop for my trolley. Ricky stands, asking too many flustered questions as he watches me wheel the trolley over. I grab the jump-started off the middle shelf, slamming it a tad too hard on the floor. Reaching for the two clamps I attached them to Tenna's chest. I look at the machine, ready to turn the knob. Before I can start, I check Ricky, making sure he isn't in danger of being shocked as well.
I turn the knob, a charge running through Tenna. I hold it for a few seconds. Leaning over Tenna I look for his lights, seeing none I try again. I mumble under my breath pleas and prayers. Checking again for a light I truly panic.
"No, no, no," I readjust the clamps on his body," you do not get to do this to me, you damn idiot!" I twist the knob again, asking any higher power for this hunk of junk to start.
"What's going on, is it working," Ricky asks unhelpfully. I ignore him, sitting in my own fear. I twist the knob, antsy as I wait.
It's a harsh few seconds of nothing. My heart feels like it's squeezing, threatening to pop with such force. A litter of please escape my lips as my eyes sting. He can't do this to me, he fucking can't.
"You son of a bitch," I whimper in anger," I do not deserve to find out you love me too and then have you die on me. You damn piece of shit, reboot!"
I twist the knob again, perhaps turning it a tad too hard. His body gives a sudden jolt, convulsing for a moment before he sits upright.
"Motherfucker," he shouts, clenching at his open chest. He tears off the clamps, curling into himself as he shudders. I can't describe the utter joy I feel at hearing him speak. Without much thought I grab him, pulling him into a hug. He tilts into my hold, still shaking and clenching his chest.
I grab his face, turning to me," If you ever scare me like that again I will turn you into a metal scrap cube." before he can answer I smash my lips again his less soft ones. He grunts in surprise, nearly recoiling. I hold him firm, annoyed and overjoyed all at once. Tenna melts into the actions, the hands curled against his chest grabbing at my shirt to tug me closer.
"Aw, that’s sweet," Ricky tease, smacking Tenna on the back of the head," glad you're alright but if you do that shit again I'm turning your scrap cube into a toilet." Tenna parts from me, smiling up at his friend.
"Wouldn't expect anything less," Tenna chuckles.
Ricky nods, rubbing snot on his sleeve," see you at home."
"You're leaving," I ask, watching him head to the door.
"Yea, you two have a lot to talk about. I'll get my words in later when he isn't high off you," he waves dismissively. As Ricky shuts the door behind himself Tenna and I are left in tense silence.
I look to Tenna, happy to see the bright glow in his eyes. He was nearly lost to me, left to be just a piece of fine metal on my floor. I smile at him, he returns the gesture. I then punch him in the chest, wincing at the metal. He winces, curling into himself again.
"Ow, let's not punch the injured man," he snaps. I growl at him.
"Wouldn't be injured if you weren't such an idiot," I snap," Of all the moronic things I know you're capable of, this tops the list. What were you even thinking? You could have been wiped, gone forever at Tenna the robot. Left at factory reset as a blank slate. God, I could kill you right now for being so blasé about hurting yourself!"
"I did what I had to do, ok," he bites back," it's not my fault that it's the only way you would give me the time of day."
I scoff, pushing him away," only time? Excuse me but I don't think you even bother trying a different way. Not once did you stop by for a casual chat or asked me out for some dinner. Hell, I've never even been to your place. I'm not the one in the wrong here just because you're an idiot!"
Tenna groans, starting up a sentence before backing off with a shake of his head. He tries again, falling short once more. In the end, he grabs for me, tugging my reluctant self into a hug. He drops his forehead to my shoulder, holding me sweetly.
"I'm sorry," he says simply," I've been reckless and unrefined ever since I met you. It's not your fault, I'm just a fool who has no idea what he's doing."
I tug him closer, petting at his back," yea, but you are the fool I fell in love with."
He squeezes tighter, rubbing his face against me. Tugging me into his lap we take the silent moment to bask in the glow of just being alive. I'm livid with him, beyond belief am I angry, but I nearly lost him today. That alone is enough for me to just sit in his lap and hold him.
"Do you really love me," he mumbles near my ear. I pet the back of his head, pressing a kiss to him.
"Sadly," I tease. He chuckles, leaning back to look in my eyes. He slants his lips against mine, timid and slow as he does.
"Well, I'm happily in love with you too," he says against my mouth. I tug him in for the next kiss, leisurely licking his lips and cupping the back of his head. We part only for us to rest against the other.
"I'm really sorry though," he nuzzles my head," I feel like a great idiot now."
"Truly the king of idiots, actually," I joke. He smiles, nodding in agreement.
"Can you forgive me," he asks. I nod.
"My biggest flaw is I can never say no to you," I say," it will surely be my undoing."
Tenna smiles big and wide, hands falling down to my hips to tug me close. We kiss like lovesick fools we are, straying off any more words for the enjoyment of just being here. Somehow we make it to the couch where he corners me against himself and the cushion. I fall asleep to him playing with my hair. Before I can succumb to rest I mumble to him.
"Merry Christmas."
He presses a gentle kiss to my head," Merry Christmas, love."

The Marriage Bargain by kianspo
Erik Lehnsherr had made a fortune manufacturing steel in Europe. When he wished to expand to the New World, he discovered that no one would do business with him unless he was affiliated with one of the First Families, the creme de la creme of the NW aristocracy. When Lord Marko holds an auction to give away his 14-year-old stepson's hand in marriage, Erik sees his chance and takes it. He has no interest in Charles himself, but now that he has him, can they make it work?

Mr & Mr. Xavier-Lehnsherr by JackyJango
If you ask his late sister, she'd probably say that Charles had always had the hots for the bad boys.
Maybe it's true. Maybe that's how Charles had ended up willingly in their marriage bed. Maybe it's the ease with which Erik fights that had drawn Charles to him-- the confidence with which he uses his body to ensure maximum destruction, the fluidity with which he flares phasers as though they were an extension of his arm. Maybe Charles had been attracted to the grace with which Erik wielded his physical form in a way Charles would never be able to in his field of work. Maybe it's the aura that swirls around Erik for being the best mercenary on the planet. Or, maybe it’s just the roguishly handsome figure Erik cuts in a leather jacket and aviators with a cigarette caught loosely between his thin lips. The thing is, Charles doesn't know. And that's a tad antithetical coming from a man who had made knowing everything his job.

Erik meets Charles at Pub Quiz League and it is hate at first sight. But, his team does need a new member and Moira is insistent that Charles is just what they need.

To the tune of our souls by hllfire
Erik, the drummer and one of the lead singers of the band known as The Brotherhood, writes a song after being inspired by the words of a university professor called Charles Xavier — another big name in the mutant community, much like Erik himself — and he wants Charles' speech to be in his song.
The only problem is that Charles Xavier doesn't seem to agree with Erik's idea.
A Tale of Two Captains by ClarkeStetler, Goosenik
Charles Xavier had wanted to be on the ocean as far back as he could remember. He could remember toddling toward the shipyards as an infant, being snatched away by scolding parents just before he could touch the gleaming vessels. As he grew older, his attention never wavered from the prospect of living life on the seas. At twenty-one years of age, Charles and his ship had its first run-in with pirates, and he saw fit to protect his title and vessel as fiercely as he knew how.
Aka: a one-shot of Erik the pirate trying to ransom Charles the captain, but finding that Charles is a little hard not to get attached to.

I'll Take You Down (The Only Road I've Ever Been Down) by kianspo
Tony and Emma are trying to help Charles get over a bad relationship. Many bad relationships, in fact, as Charles has the worst taste in men. They dare him to get 'cured' by sleeping with someone 'normal', having no idea that that normal guy just happens to be someone Charles has been crushing on for a while...
All We Are We Are by kianspo
Charles's boyfriend breaks up with him days before the holidays. Not willing to ruin anyone else's festive mood, Charles hides this fact from his sister and his friends, and retreats into the family mansion, letting the world move on without him. He's flirting with depression when a one-time ex and a long-term friend surprises him. Long-kept secrets are revealed, and it turns out, Charles hasn't been paying attention to the right things.

Heya everyone!
Sorry for the absence of chapters, there are things good and bad in my life but that is not important right now.
The OC belongs to @mortal-kombattore-115
I like to thank @this-person-is-slowly-dying and her friend, AlphaKing and @sampoststuff for providing me artwork for this so give them credit guys. ^^
That being said, enjoy reading the chapter you are waiting for while I work on the 20th chapter.
-Chapter 19-
-Back to the All-Stars Group…-
“So there will be a great conflict in the future, eh?” Bruno had asked this while he fed the fire with the wood leftover after others had barricaded the house. “To hell and back it will be to your dimension eventually.” Dempsey said as he helped a captive Helghast making a grate to hang the skinned bear over the fire.
“Still, too much hell for what the Germans had done to us.”
“Can you explain what had happened in that war?” as the large Frenchman helps out Heavy with the creature over to the fire to tie it on a grate.
“To make a long ass story short,” Dempsey apperaded, as he and the Helghast managed to get the grate made from scrapped metal and pipes from the shed with the help of Ratchet who set it in the ground with rocks. “Blame the Germans.” with Ultimis Richtofen giving him a glare from the background with Primis Jin shaking her head.
Demoman walked over with a knife from a kitchen as the smell of sizzling meat and hearing bubbles erupting from the flames crisping on the skinned bear creature. Soldier had to pull the Scottish man back and whispered “You think you can prepare dinner for us?” with a little concern for him. “I mean, Engie and Pyro can cook good meals…”
“I can cook, Jane, I have cooked a lot of food for me ma, remember?” Tavlish smiled with his one good brown eye, looked at it, and the Soldier patted his back and said “Just remember to put spice on each piece if someone wants one.” and Demo nodded.
The meat was grilled by the fire on a grate, was curved and cut onto a plate and served to the people around the bonfire. Spice and salt was provided to several others who wanted it and they ate it with ease.
Some laughed and made jokes, others were keeping watch for any familiar or the unfamiliar threats as Demoman looked a little proud of himself, an friendly atmosphere with little laughter and he thought “All of this needs to have a piano music.” rather joking in his head with a chuckle.
Door opened slightly from beyond the group and they jumped a little as Bruno looked at the door better than anyone and said “Erron is awake.”
Frisk had led the patched up Erron to the bonfire and had him rested at a spot with Mugman looking at them, “Thanks, kiddo.” Erron muttered under his breath as Cuphead looked at Erron and said “Amazing that you had survived that-”
“A Panzer Soldat,” Erron interrupted, “That’s what I learned from an ugly ass octo-” he noticed Jin finally who was looking at him with an eyebrow, “...pus, hello.” he greeted, he seemingly… looked similar to a marine in the group but Jin simply shrugged it off as she then introduced herself “My name is Jin Huang, you’re Erron, if I am correct.”
“Erron Black, Jin.” Erron confirmed, holding his newly bandaged side, “I see you’re here in a tournament too?”
This confused everyone around him as Primis Dempsey asked “What tournament? What’s it about?”
“To think you would know about it by now,” Erron begins to explain, “from where I am from, there was a battle-to-the-death tournament event known as Mortal Kombat. The winner will be the last one standing to decide the fate of the earth realm. But in order to win, is to off the other.``
Others were confused but Frisk looked fairly worried and Primis Dempsey figured it out what it meant as he said “Do we have to…” to Erron who is dead serious about this.
“Yep.” he responded, as Jin was perplexed with a thought of the tournament, “Mortal Kombat…” as Erron looked at her with little interest. “I had heard from Frisk that you are a damned good fighter, right? In the earth- In my universe, we had those there in the other realm. But they are not the only ones, there are tough-ass fighters out there as well and I won’t be surprised that we are meeting one of them from the realms I belong to.”
“I am not but I have been taught to defend myself.” Jin said as she looked at him, “Yet, I can’t die without a fight if it does happen.”
“Oi reckon that and the reason our own had been kidnapped.” Sniper added with a nod, “Yet, so far, it worked for a while so far?”
“Fighting a giant flower, then extraterrisory soldiers, our teammates taken to another world and now this.” P!Dempsey recounted the events from before, “So that could be the theory for this shitshow happening.”
“Could be…” Radec had remained silent until this point, “A strange entity had somewhat cause us to be here, our leader had sent us here to investigate the power and to harness it-”
“Before the shitshow hits the fan with war following suit!” Soldier jabbed, pointing a finger at him as if he was the only one who has authority over their captives. “You pushed first and we pushed back!”
“Stand down, son.” Dempsey said loudly as the Soldier looked at him, grumbling something under his breath as he sat down. “Yet,” Erron broke the ice as he looked at him, “You guys are going to leave me to die here once you guys leave.” in an accusatory tone. Radec nodded and said “But it all went wrong and no hope of leaving this planet as the carrier was destroyed, we are all trapped here together all thanks to you.” as Everyone looked at him until Mugman piped up.
“Not entirely.” he said, Cuphead and Frisk looked at him and said “What do you mean, Mugs?” with an eyebrow.
“Rachet, Clank.” he called to them, “You had said you two came here by a ship of your own, right?”
“Of course, we did but why did you ask?” Clank asked as Ratchet simply tilted his head to this. “You must have a radio on it, you can contact anyone far away from here, does it still work?”
“It does,” Ratchet answered as he simply shrugged but had a disappointed look on his face, “But the galaxy we are from is too far away from here, this is a Milky Way Galaxy afterall, there's a bunch of other galaxies in the universe.” as he stretched his arms.
“Or the next,” Clank added as he stood up and then chuckled when Ratchet turned to glare at him, “Mr. Masaki and Erron had said that this realm is what we are currently living in right now.” he further explained. “As for our ship, we can overlook the city, be your eyes and ears for any zombie coming your way.” Ratchet offered as Clank sat back on three bricks stacked on top of another.
“I agree with the strange talking cat lion alien,” Ultimis Nikolai interjected with a little sober voice even as it was slurred, “On the bright side, they can find Nikolai more vodka in this sh!t hole!” He raised the bottle and then drank it as the scarf Mugman was holding to patch the crack glowed cyan softly as he looked at him before looking away.
*You had no idea why this scarf was connected to Ultimis Nikolai…
A text hangs below his head as he looked at it before he looked at Frisk, who patted his shoulder in comfort. The look they had as if they knew whatever the newer text will explain, they would tell them about it.
Demoman yawned as he looked up the nighttime skies, the stars could hardly be seen because of the city’s lights but in this one, electricity that powered the city was all but gone after something had happened to it and the beauty of the stars and dust sparkled and smudged to regin the skies once more.
The moon is glowing softly with a few stars around it, a night silver ring of rainbow around it as the nearly glassy clouds covering it. “Demo?” Scout asked as he looked at him who got up and said “We should all get sleep, we can talk more in the morning, Lads.”
“I will take the first shift, then Bendy soon Richtofen.” Bruno had stated as he raised the hammer and placed onto his shoulder, resting it in place. “That’s a good idea,” Bendy walked with him to the captive Helghasts, “in case they had any funny ideas.”
“Oh ja,” Ultimis Richtofen said this with rather a sinister venom as he looked at the Helshasts with a wicked smile, “I vill gut zhem if zhey tried to escape.”
As the moon slowly sails in the clouded skies, everyone has made the parts of the backyard and the house itself as their spots for them to live temporarily. Half of them had set up tents in the backyard while U!Richtofen already had the shed to call his ‘cottage’ of his own.
Rest are resting in each rooms of the house 1145, Ratchet and Clank has the couch, Erron and Scout has the room with a bunk bed at the end of the hall in the upstairs, corporal had the master bedroom, Frisk had the side room with two bunk beds as it seemingly possible and sharing it with Cuphead and Mugman and lastly, the rest of the RED Team had the downstairs family room with one room but not the rest of them at the least, Sniper is at on the roof with a lantern on watch duty.
“Do you think that we have to fight each other?” It was Mugman who asked Jin that with a worried look on his face while Jin helped him onto the top bunk, with a blanket he had caught and wrapped himself with.
“Erron had said that as a theory, we don’t know about it yet.” Jin said as she adjusted the blanket he had and tried to be careful not to press the cracks and make them worse. “We need to know the reasons why we are here for a tournament.”
“And if it was the way to-”
“Mugman,” Jin had insisted, looking at him as she had a bit of a parental tone in her voice. “I will not let it happen if it is the only way, I promise you that I will protect you.”
“Really?”
“Do I ever lie to you? I am a fighter afterall.” she softly smiled as she lifted his chin up to face her, “Please get some sleep, Mugman, tomorrow will be better.”
Mugman slightly nodded and then laid down to get comfortable as Jin exited the room to find something to lay down to rest when she noticed something from the master bedroom that caught her eye before she could.
It was Primis Dempsey, he wasn’t wearing his coat and the boiler as they rested on a folding table close to him, sitting on a chair and holding a colt revolver in his hand as he stared at it. He looked at the window and then he rested his forehead on the cylinder and the rear sight with his eyes closed.
Something about this scene had her worried for the marine. She watched him raise his head back up to the window and he appeared to notice something on the window. Then he looked at the doorway, raised an eyebrow at the fortune sight before him.
“Jin? What are you doing over there?”
“I…” She said shyly as she walked in, “I wanted to make sure that you are alright, Dempsey.” she excused as she made her way to the dirty yet faintly clean mattress with a few blankets on it. He sighed as he walked over to the bed to sit down beside him.
“Thanks for doing that,” he said as he looked at the colt in his hand, “But ya really don’t have too, Jin, I am fine.” it was a lie and he and Jin knew that just the way he was holding the weapon. She reached out and then held the hand holding the gun, making him look at her.
“Mind if I ask why are you holding a revolver?” she asked as she and him looked at each other.
Dempsey knew that he wanted to do it with a weapon such as a colt revolver, that one thought, an idea, just swimming in the back of his mind for quite a little while but he couldn't let that side of himself show, not by a long shot and too stubborn to admit it. He simply shrugged and said “Just wanted to make sure those Lickers don't eat us in our sleep,” he excused, “You could never be safer than being ripped to shreds.”
Jin looked at him a bit more now and then she said softly, “I’ll stay.”
“Run that by me again, Jin?”
“I’ll stay with you.” in repeated herself, letting go him hand, she intended to stay with him to make sure that he doesn’t do anything too stupid, possibly to his own life, “I will let you be on watch if you want, do wake me up if you do see something.”
Tank looked down to face the revolver from Jin, looking a bit confused yet vacated from the conversion they had before he looked at her and nodded “Yeah, sure.”
Jin nodded as Dempsey got up to let Jin get into bed, she stretched her arms to prepare for the night as she pulled the sheets over her with P!Dempsey sat down on the bed again as he looked at her. She does have a nice…
“Not now, Tank.” his subconscious told him as he shook his head, “No time for feelings, lover boy.”
Jin fell asleep quickly after finding comfort in the blankets as Dempsey watched, letting out a soft sigh as he looked at the revolver again. He wasn’t the one to admit it but she had stopped him, he’ll give her that but he is a little worried about the Lickers he encountered however so it is a reason for him to keep watch.
He looked at the window again as the fire in the backyard had dimmed and smoke rising from where the bear was cooked. He has watched the window like a hawk for anything with a long tongue and teeth for an hour or two when Jin woke up with a sketch and got out of bed.
“Sleep well?” he asked as she sat down beside him, “Yes I have.” she answered as she immediately prepared to take the night watch, “It’s now your turn to get some rest and me taking watch.”
Dempsey looked at her and then looked at the revolver in his hands, he then looked at her again and said “Do you know how to use it?”
Jin simply nodded as she took it from his hand gently before he had got up to lay down the bed with the blanket over her, she looked over to the corporal and responded nicely “Sleep well, Dempsey.”
Dempsey softly smiled with tired eyes and then started to fight his way to get some sleep. A few minutes of this, his eyelids closed tightly, soon softened and he fell asleep soon...
The sound of gunfire and chains flying through the air, his boots were dusted in dirt as his two feet crashed onto the ground as he ran away from whoever it was he was running from.
“Sh!t sh!t Sh!t SH!T….!” he cursed loudly under his breath as he was losing air from his lungs, the sounds of the gun firing and chains flying in the air are consent; whenever he had to stop to catch his breath, the sounds returned and making him turn tail and running through an old western town that seemed abandoned since the 1800’s or after that century.
He skidded on the ground to turn the corner and then made it inside an nearby building that seemed like a shack. He hid inside the shack, on the wall and remained silent and watched a figure walking by: the one with a cowboy hat, a trench coat and weiding what appears to be a gun of a strange kind.
The pursuer walked by the marine without even noticing him being inside, Tank had sighed in relief softly and he got off the wall. “Thank god…”
He then walked towards the way he came in but chains suddenly appeared and stretched across the doorless frame, wrapping and blocking off his exit as he yelled out a curse word.
He feared that the man chasing had heard it happened too so he had to find another way out of the building as he turned to notice something that he didn’t see in this shack before he entered. A staircase that leads down, he softly breathed in and out before looking at the blocked off exit, then he shook his head at this.
With no other choice on the matter, he descends downstairs with slow steps on the steps as the setting sunlight creeps through the walls made from wood boards. He then turned to see what was in the basement itself of the shack. He muttered “Oh no…” as he got a look of what was in the room.
It was a stake in the center of the basement and on it were four rusted hooks, but they looked like they were sharpened to a fine point and crusted with blood, like it was used countless times with an animal of kind that had been hoisted onto it.
He had stood there to take in what he was seeing until the chains upstairs had been taken down and someone walked in. He cursed under his breath and looked for a way to hide which he eventually did through a hole wide enough for him to fit inside.
Footsteps were descending down the stairs and came upon the landing as he could see through the cracks to see who it was: The man with the gun came inside the basement and began to look around, finding someone inside.
“Where are you…?” an old voice called out from the man, banging on the creaking walls and pounding, “I know you’re in here!” He said as he used the bunt of the rifle to bash through the wall on the right of the basement, the sound had revirabated to Tank as he flinched but didn’t make noise, he was not going to give away his location.
After a long time, the man seemed to give up as he said “Well said… Have it your way then.” as Dempsey sees him going back upstairs with the shadow stretching out on the wall where the sun was shining before it had settled over the entrance.
Dempsey carefully slid out of the hole and looked around as he saw the hole the man in the trench coat had made with his coat. The chips and splinters were on the inside of the wall and some of it was hanging off the craves.
He slowly had put his hand into the hole his purser had made, feeling another wall from within, feeling cobwebs and wood from inside. The bunt of the rifle had made a bend on the wooden plank wall when he had his fingers to feel the bump the man had made out of anger and frustration.
“Jesus…” he muttered as he placed his hand through it, “at least have an therapist…” he sarcastically jabbed as he pulled his hand out of the hole but then jumped when an one claw wrenched out of the hole the man had made, it was pitch black and it had a tinge of orange on the tip as it had a bit of fur of the same color when it came out and made him yell in shock.
The claw happened to try to slash at him but he missed it just in time just narrowingly avoiding its attack, then he witnessed its shell cracked and then crumbed away, transforming it into… Chains.
It was a flash as the chains behaved like snakes controlled by their master and it shot forward towards as he turned to try to run but these metal linked strings had latched onto his right arm and coiled around it in a tight grip. “What the hell…?!” He pulled at the chains as he tried to break it but then he spotted another same claw came out of the first hole he was hiding in and it, like the claw, changed into chains and lashed out.
His left arm was grabbed and coiled by the chains behaving like a predatory snake and the next thing he knew, they pulled and his arms were stretched about as he screamed. The footsteps returned and there was the cowboy on the landing. Dempsey pulled desperately to get them to let go his arms but their grip was death-like as they were rattled and clacked.
“So that’s where you were boy,” the man then lifted his head up to reveal the rest of his face, Caleb the Deathslinger, his white and black eyes locked onto his target as he had lifted his jawbone upward, reconnected it to his skull with a crack that made Tank cringed at the sound of it. “Nowhere to run this time.” he muttered as he stood where he was as he lifted his rifle upwards him as he gotten a good look at it:
Tumblr media
[Digitally drawn by Meaghan “Icefir” Halter]
The rifle had a reel with chains attached to it, with a lever to pull it and lastly, it had a very defining feature to it as the chains are connected to it: Some type of harpoon or a spear and it was aimed at him.
The hammer was heard smashing onto the barrel and the next thing he felt was a spear piercing through his abdomen and out his back as the pain was unbearable-
He jumped out of his sleep with a yell, eyes wide open and panting as if he was seeing hell far beyond him. He quickly checked his abdomen with his eyes locked onto it as he placed his hand on where the spear surpassingly made its mark.
No blood, no sign of t-shirt torn or penetrated the skin, flesh and bone. “Dempsey?” a soft voice had questioned worryingly, he turned to face Jin, she was looking at him with an unsettled yet concerned look in her eyes.
He looked at her for a good minute before closing his eyes and placing his hand on his forehead as sweat trailed down. “Are you okay, Dempsey?”
“I’m alright, it’s just a nightmare… that’s gotten worse.” he muttered as he looked in the other direction, Jin was a bit puzzled of what she could understand him saying under his breath. “Nightmare?” she said as she lowered her hand as he looked at something else in the room, an old pile of junk that is drawers filled with beads, strings, scissors and paint brushes with painting of any kind and other things. Like he had never said that but he did say “What time is it?”
“It was only 3 o’clock in the morning, Dempsey.” Jin responded as she looked at him a bit more, studying his movements, “Damn…” he sighed, “Just when I was getting some good night sleep too.” as he rubbed his eyes with his shaking hand with a soft groan.
Jin was worried for his mental health as she continued to look at him for a bit longer and said “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m feeling fine, Jin.” he lied as he looked at her now with tired eyes as he let out a dry chuckle. But she refused to believe him as she saw through that sentence; a lie. A lie to keep his pride up.
“Are you sure about that?” she responded as she crawled onto Dempsey’s side, sitting next to him as he had his hands on the bed, planted onto the sheets as he was baffled by this. “I can see it in your eyes that you are… Distressed.”
Tank looked at the window to avoid but then in defeat, he let go of the breath from his mouth. “Like I had said, it’s a nightmare.” he confessed finally, Jin listened closely to what he had to say more. “It was me being chased and eventually being killed by a creepy-ass cowboy that looked like a zombie but smarter than that.” he then looked down from the window. “And he had a gun with a spear that killed me with…”
“If it’s connected to the war,” Jin rationalized as she had placed her hand on his cheek and had him turn to look at her, “If so, it could be understandable.”
His eyebrows furrowed upward and as he had his arm rested on one of his knees, “But something about it felt so real.” he mumbled softly to himself. Jin then said “There is no need to worry.” before wrapping her arms around the American. He was a little flustered when she did this but he found comfort in this and held her arm with one hand as he closed his eyes.
“Thanks.” he said, showing gratitude.
“No worries.” Jin replied with a gentle smile.
He was smiling softly himself but then they both flinched when they heard the door open, they were both ready to face whatever it was until they saw who it was: It was Erron who yawned as he rubbed his eyes.
“Hey Erron,” Dempsey sneered tiredly, “You almost scared us.”
“Evenin’, Tank,” Erron stopped to see Jin with him, he had dark circles around his eyes like he hadn't slept for a while but he had brushed it off and asked “Mind if I ask you two what you are talking about?”
“Nothing important, Erron.” Dempsey responded as he looked at him carefully, “Speaking of which, ya’ll looked like crap, Erron.”
“It was Scout’s fault for talking.” Erron complained as he had his thumb pointed at the closed door on his left as it left him and the Shaolin woman confused by what Erron meant by that. “But wasn’t Scout asleep on the top bunk above you?” Jin responded with a raised brow as Erron looked like he had run out of many cares to give anyway.
“Oh, don’t worry, he is asleep,” he answered as he grabbed the doorknob, opened it just a crack and what they were hearing was kinda humorous. “Heeeey, Pauling…. Do ya want to go on a date?” Scout murmured from the darkened bedroom with Erron holding the door open just a small wedge as he concluded “But he’s like a radio that can’t shut up.”
Jin giggled and face palmed as Dempsey smirked “Poor you” he joked as the Outworlder glared at them as he pulled the door close just as Scout mumbled out “Oh no, the dog has wings….!”
“Anyway, I was going to take a leak in the middle of the night anyway.” Erron explained as he let go of the knob and waved this off with his hand before he wrapped his arms together, trying to warm up as he walked into the darkened hallways.
“You should’ve got a blanket with you, dumba$$.” Dempsey sassily remarks as the man was fading into darkness as he replied “Yeah, whatever.” his response echoing in the halls.
The corporal smiled as he shook his head while Jin looked sighed and held her forehead, but then he looked solemn again as he looked down again as she noticed.
He looked aloof with himself, “Dempsey,” she responded as she placed her hand on her shoulder. He looked at her again then responded “It’s only a nightmare, I know-” but he was cut off.
“If you want more sleep then you would,” she offered, Dempsey’s mouth was aigbe a little bit upon hearing that, “if you had another nightmare, I’m here, understand?'' She sounded like a mother figure for someone that’s broken, broken nearly beyond repair but he had said nothing but nodded. “We have to do work at sunrise, try to get some sleep.” she said as Dempsey laid back down and fell asleep with Jin beside him, sitting upright on the bed.
Yet, Erron had lied about going to the restroom but instead had his hand over his mouth as his eyes locked onto the ground with furrowed brows. What he had overheard, he hardly ignored what Tank experienced in that nightmare.
He muttered “That can’t be Caleb…”
-In the morning light.-
Sun rose over the mountains that seemed to be close to the neighborhood in ruins and dominated by the forest trees as dawn bleeds anew with colors of purple, orange and sky blue dancing in the sky.
Primis Takeo placed the pieces of firewood into the dying campfire to warm up Heavy, and Sniper.
Bendy had to share a blanket with seemingly tired Bruno who was barely awake as they had been watching their prisoners, the Ink Demon looked concerned for the giant Frenchman as he had him wrapped in the blanket to get him warmth.
Scout was on look out of Ultimis Richtofen’s “Cottage” with Ultimis Nikolai was slubbed down, back on it and drunk as ever, vodka in hand as he hiccup. Ratchet and Clank are with Frank West, Raiden and Erron with the digitized map of Salt Lake City in ruins but it is now named Fallen City due to it’s population of the undead roaming in its streets.
“Hard to believe that they could do this much damage.” Erron muttered under his breath as he looked at the map, Raiden interjected “In most cases, an outbreak like this is common since the COVID-19 pandemic.” as he looked at him while pointing at where they were right now on the map.
“Actually, Raiden,” Clank intervened, “It’s only Utah that’s populated with the infected.” as the cyborg and kombatiant were confused by what the small robot had said. “How is that?” Raiden responds in confusion, “It should be an epidemic by now.”
“It could be but the place where I am from, something similar happened to Willamette is that the national guard had roped and blocked off every road leading into the town where the outbreak started.” Frank rationized, motioning Rachet to zoom out the city and they watched as the city was zoomed out to view the state.
It was Utah in nearly red color but it remained in its shape of that state, not once are any signs of the infection leaving it. “But this was unheard off, they said that it could stay in one city but not the whole state itself.”
“No sh!t, Frank.” Erron said as he looked closer at the map, small red dots were going close to the border of Utah but they disappeared upon reaching the line, “Whatever’s keeping the dead inside the state is not going to let them out.”
“Almost like a force field.” Raiden added. Clank nodded as Ratchet added “Still, it’s something to think about but keep in mind though…” as he pointed at a few blue dots leaving the state and a couple more dots entering it. “I am guessing those who are not infected are allowed to leave and go inside Utah as much as they want.”
“Almost like it was a strange type of spell quarantining the state.” Erron said as he watched the two different colored circles moving around in a few cities of the Beehive state. “With us survivors, it’s good that we don't have to worry about the dead coming out but if you’re a zombie, being trapped here will suck so much.”
“Frank,” Raiden said as he looked at him, “Do you remember how you got here?”
“Not too sure but I was outside the city before I met you guys, plus the way out of it was blocked off but there are other roads out of it if you’re asking.” he replied as he looked at the map once again. Having Ratchet zoom in again on the city.

[Map of Utah, from Google Search]
Raiden looked at the one lone black dot on Orem and pointed at it with a sharp metalized index finger, “That’s where we are right now but if we go along the line,” he said as he had his finger follow the line towards Cedar city. “It could have a road leading out of the state, then we could get out of this hellhole.”
Erron looked at Raiden and insisted “But to travel that far, we need supplies to last us about three days to get there. We need to find as much as we can carry on us.”
Frank West internally groans, again with the three day mark like the same scenes before. He face-plamed at this and said “Is there a train that can get us there?”
Erron looked at Frank West and said “There is one, but it’s in Provo and there’s all of them all over the place.” he then looked at Raiden, “Do you think you can clean that town up?”
Raiden remained silent for a moment but then he responded “You’ll leave them to me.” as he turned away and said “Find anyone that will scout the area, we’ll be leaving at sunset.”
“With pleasure, Raiden.” Erron nodded as he turned to walk away from the map as well with Raiden, leaving Frank West with the lombax and a small robot companion.
“Mr. West.”
“Hm?” he turned to face Clank as he was looking back at him. “You wanted to scout the area as well?” Clank offered as well, “You are a reporter-”
“As well as a freelance photojournalist and a teacher in a local college, Clank.” Frank added as he pointed at the camera, hanging around by an landrid around his neck and hasn’t been used in a while since he met the group of people from different worlds.
“Yeah, that, something like that is useful.” Ratchet said this as he crossed his arms, “Dempsey did say that there are mutations of those zombies like Lickers. If there are more, we need pictures of them.”
“Sounds like a scoop you wanted me to look into.” Frank smiled, liking this idea already but then he said “What if I accidentally ran into one of them if they heard me?”
“Hey Frank, that’s what our arteries are for.” Ratchet responded, “Most of us are armed to the teeth and neck deep in these infected people.”
“As for Lickers,” Clank added as he justered his finger upward, “Mr. Dempsey had said on the note he found that they will attack anything that makes noise so best to remain quiet when they are in an area with you.”
“Gotcha, Clank.” Frank said as he nodded, he then looked at the barbed-wire bat he had rested on an overgrown oak tree with vines draggling off the branches. He walked over to it and then picked it up and threw it over his shoulder and landed. “Right, I’m heading out first before anyone could scout out. Make sure they will bring back any stuff and food we could need.” Frank responded as he headed to the east gate that leads out of the backyard, opened it and then went out of it as it closed behind him.
Erron then turned to Ratchet and Clank then said “As for you guys, best to find the best scouts that can do this.”
They nodded as the map was turned off and then he helped Clank onto his back with a click before walking off as he placed his hands on his hips.
-Later on that morning-
There are a few willing volunteers willing to savage the area; Scout of course, Erron, Gordon Freeman, Soldier, Demoman, and Jin Huang. They are given a brief rundown on how they will be leaving soon but warn them about the mutations.
“So, we will have to find other resources for the journey ahead,” Erron explained to the group, Scout had swung his bat onto his shoulder and asked “And where are we going?”
“Cedar City is far from this city,” Erron answered, “Hopefully less zombies, the better.”
“Aren’t we going to wait for the others?” Soldier asked as he adjusted his helmet a little as Demoman looked at the Outworlder. “The Knight said that they are in another world,” as he places his hat back on and it is shadowed over his eyes, “Besides, he has an artifact that allows him to go from one realm to the next so they will be able to catch up to us.”
“Seems possible?” Jin commented as she raised a brow, “And I had to ask, what artifact is it?”
“I don’t know to be truthful,” Erron responded, “Most of us don't tell me about it but best have good faith that he still has it.”
“Plus, we are armed to the teeth,” Scout strugged, “we can take on those lickers.”
“I didn’t say there will just be Lickers, they could have other mutations.” Erron interjected that poke a hole in the young man’s bubble. “The science experts had said that zombies with parasites or viruses can mutate overtime, judging on how long this city had gone through over the years or so.”
Scout gulped with the thought, Erron then shook his hand to dismiss the conversion as he said “Very well, then, we haven’t got time to waste away. We gotta find something to survive on for the next few days or die stravin’.”
“Understood, Erron.” Jin nodded as Demoman looked at her but then nodded. Soldier then salutes this, “Remember before you're a$$es left; be careful out there.”
They nod to acknowledge before heading toward two different gates and going out back into the woodland neighbor and into the infested busy streets.
Jin, however, still struggled to comprehend how different characters could coexist with each other but she had to push aside her new questions and continued on forward. As they go on, she learns more about Gordon, Demoman and Soldier.
Gorden Freeman is truly a man with a few words, he had helped people in an accident as he had referred to as The Black Mesa Incident and led a rebellion against an enemy known as the Combine.
Demoman and Soldier are quite good friends and teammates actually, despite the American being obsessed with wars and bloodshed while the latter is working two jobs, one being a house cleaner and a flipping demolitions expert as a mercenary for hire.
They are quite smart to stay in groups as new breeds of infection are now more presentable, not just 115 zombies.
One infection had visible black veins, rarely ones without injuries but others are most bitemarks and scratches where the virus had spread. Another was riddled with worms, strange worms of alien origin and mutated into special types as their green vomiting counterparts had different yet same parts when it came to mutating.
The zombies, the non-eyes-glowing ones had eyes almost white yet they stumbled slowly, they will be resistant towards being shot in the head surprisingly but it will take 4 or more bullets or even stabs to bring it down.
They had gotten into stores and located non perishable items that strangely haven’t yet been perished yet despite how much time had passed by since what happened to this state in the U.S.
To cover more ground and to get more, they split up and told to keep an eye out for threats around the corners. Jin entered a community hospital and she had found modern medical equipment with an umbrella logo on each of them. The scene seemed to have a group of people researching brain samples before they were interrupted by something that she already knew what it was.
“We better need medicine for our journey ahead of us.” she whispered as she had a sack to stuff them in but when she’s all done doing so, Jin had found notes on a pharmacy desk, curious on what they would say, she picked them up and read them.
Umbrella Corps. Research Notes
The T-Virus had appeared when we had gotten here, it was thought to be destroyed yet we are trying to come up with the theory for its continued existence.
The virus that mutated white and red blood cells causing them to go black colored, the origin is unknown but it is referred to as The Black Plague Virus.
The parasitic worms, a neurological alien of unknown origin, can take over the host and control it. These “Devil Worms” as we call it and it is rather shocking they can merge together as they mutate.
The victims had similar symptoms to the rabies yet it appears that it had been weaponized, the virus of this type had been nicknamed the Green Flu due to it showing signs of a flu but soon they will become rapid overtime.
The unknown element had reanimated dead cells in the human body, making them, like the four other deadly pathogens, into literal zombies, finding documents of the same thing happening in the late 40’s as this element is referred to as 115 discovered by an organization called Group 935.
They were theories on how they are contained inside the state of Utah due to them unable to go outside as something is keeping them inside. It is unknown what is happening could be good or bad yet we could not know for now.
Further research is needed.
Jin was confused by the notes provided such similar information yet it is useful that it showed strange yet same symptoms of the zombification process. Violet behavior, headaches, sensitive to light and such more.
“This is strange…” she muttered as she folds the notes and placed them in her pocket for later, to show the others of her discovery. She was about to leave when she noticed something that caught her eye.
A mysterious hooded figure walked away from the mirror hanging above and walked out of the door calmly like it was a normal day. She turned to see the backdoor closing in time. “Wait…!” she said as she walked fastly towards it and then pushed it open and she found herself in an alley away that’s rotten away and nature crawling upward on the walls.
She looked on the left side, the end of the alley way leading towards the more heavily woods and on the right she saw the Ridden and Black Plague zombies, they were not looking in her direction but hissing and screeched at one another over a kill the other claimed. Similar to a pack of wolves when the alpha is defending its meal.
Jin covered her mouth to prevent the sound from coming out, deciding that she needs to leave and leave now. Moving slowly, she walked back to the door and tried pulling it open but it wouldn't bulge. She tried again but harder yet it still couldn't open from the second attempt. She was locked outside.
She turned to pay attention in the right direction, one of the Plagues seemed to sniff the air and then turned to the alley, its face was half-way ripped off, flesh and teeth showing as black veins sprawled across its features. It snurled upon seeing her as her thoughts were racing but she remained calm, not showing fear from what her masters taught her. “Looks like I am taking an alternate route…” she thought as she turned on her heels and then ran as she heard the screeches from the damned reined in the air. She ran into the forested area to lose them as both Ridden and Black Plague are flooding in the alley and making their way to the heavily wooded area but not without killing each other to get to it first.
They bite and scratch each other as some of them are overwhelming them and then devouring their flesh and organs that have been tainted with the virus or a parasite as the rest had managed to make it through the alley way and proceeded to chase her.
She was like a monkey on the loose upon release, she ran and avoided logs and used branches to swing over the terrain to outrun the dead. The sound of something else is hopping with her at the same pace as her but she was confused when she heard at least six pairs of feet on the ground or the branches.
Before she could turn her head to face whatever it was, that couplet had hopped into her vision, right in front of her. It was human but it lacked of hair on it’s head, it had four arms, two small as the other limbs are longer and it had a red pulsating organ on the bottom of its throat and collarbone as it has been missing a jaw to begin with and replaced with a lower part of the mouth with small sharp teeth.
Red eyes glowed as it snarled and crawled like an animal one side to the left then to the right a little. A worm with mandible spurts out of it’s one eye socket and into another as they bleed crimson tears down from its eyes as Jin cringed at that sight when she looked at the creature in the eye.
“Did the worms do that?” she thought as she pulled her hair ornament out, prepared to fight what this monstrosity is but it seems to know what it is doing. Getting on two feet and then doing something peculiar with it’s four hands as if it was a normal day of folding clothes but something was slimy and drooling in them then suddenly, it tossed the “ball” at her and it exploded.
She exclaimed as she tried to get away but her legs were caught in the mucky projectile and it climbed up to her stomach, pinning her in place while she stood. “What the hell…?!” she tried to pull at the clammy slime but it was like rubber and it stood on her while the screeching had reached her ears.
She looked up just in time to find the worm-ridden creature leaping at her, the two hands wrapped around her throat and neck as the other two are holding on her shoulders as she is doing the same with her own arms to push or try to push it away from her as she was choking, fighting for air.
It roared at her as worms fell out of it’s eye sockets and onto the ground, missing her face as she was losing consciousness but then, its side of its head had exploded with blood and brain matter spewed out. It stopped then fell with Jin in its arms as by now the slime had expired.
She gasped in for air as she heard a familiar voice calling out to her, “Jin!” and feet running over to her and then her arm was grabbed and being pulled up onto her feet. It was P!Dempsey.
“Are ya alright!?”
“Yeah, I am fine…” she rubbed her bruised neck as she looked at the creature, “It’s true what Erron has said about the mutations.”
The marine was looking at the corpse then shrugged a little, “A stinger like this one must be Licker’s second cousin, an ugly b@#$ too.” he sass-talked before the ‘Stinger” was slowly getting back up but was quickly shot down with another bullet with a gun.
Head was clearly devastated from the second bullet discharge, several worms crawled out and went into the ground as they groaned in disgust. “F*#$ing gross…”
Jin thought back about the notes she found and then worried that the others might catch up from the alley after their fight with each other. “Corporal,” she spoke up as he was going to leave, P!Dempsey looked at Jin with a raised eyebrow as she held up the papers and landed them on him. “I had found this from the hospital before I fled, I think there are not just two viruses here in this state.” she explained.
“Could be worth the trouble you’ve gotten yourself into.” he said softly but then he heard faint growls from the tree lines. He gestures with his hand to get her moving as he muttered “We have to get the f#$% out of here…”
They turned and fled the area where the Stinger had appeared as the Ridden and the Plague were coming in.
-Suncrest-
From a frying pan and into an oven, that is what Jin could hear him mutter under his breath as he read one page after another. Apparently the deadly pathogens that can create the dead walked this earth and had each section separately after research on them.
“What is the matter, Tank?” she asked softly as the corporal placed the notes in his pouch and said “First 115 and now four more?” sounded angry, “Talk about dinner for the worms after they can…” he then shook his head. He wasn’t sure if this was even more worse than the previous universe they belonged in.
“Dempsey,”
“Yeah, Jin?” he asked, annoyed as he looked at her now.
“That Stinger, it had..” she was interrupted with the marine’s hand placed onto her shoulder and said “I know…” softly, “It’s one hell of a way to die.” and Jin looked down with her brows furrowed. She then looked at him and nodded wordlessly. He smiled softly and then looked around.
Yet, she can’t let go of the feeling peculiarly on how he was at the wrong place yet the right time, so she needs to ask while they are now continuing to walk down the street that is now halfway covered by dirt forming a path.
“Dempsey?”
“What’s up?”
“I like to know, how did you find me in trouble?”
He was usually loud enough to verbally question Richtofen or someone else loudly but he was oddly quiet but then he answered “Don’t like to copy Tak but I had a stinking feeling when you left. " as he scratched the back of his head."
Jin cocked her head to the side with little confusion yet interested, “You had sensed that I’d be in danger.” she said as she and him continued walking down the path. “You could say that.” he nodded as he looked at the tall trees, pine trees and oak trees that grew to climb the skies upon the ground and dirt.
“I like to call it a “gut feeling” in situations like that one back at the house.”
“Well, I am glad you listened to that “gut” feeling.”
Dempsey chuckled softly as he closed his eyes and turned his head away from the trees, “Yeah, this tank sure did.”
Jin softly smiled at this man as she had a tint of pink on her cheeks as birds above them chirped above them. This is a peaceful walk in the woods that is once a town before the walking dead of all five kinds showed up.
Yet, the feeling hasn’t shown up until when they are deeper into the forest and the air has gotten… colder?
Jin had felt the familiar temperature and held her arms together as Dempsey looked around as soon as he felt the wind had gotten colder than usual, “What the hell?” he muttered as they walked along but more aware of their surroundings.
Their feet crunched onto something soft, they looked down and saw they had walked into a bed of snow. “Why is there snow in the middle of summer?”
“The hell I know,” Dempsey had spoken the thought out loud, those the only thoughts he could think to say as he was caught off guard with what appears to be the change of the session. “Whatever’s happening is not a part of mother nature’s to-do list.”
He continued onward into the slowly falling snowflakes before a blizzard hit them both, “Holy sh!t!”
“Tank!”
The snowstorm had come along and the environment had transformed into a winter hell, Dempsey calls out to Jin ``Jin! Are you there?!”
He felt a hand grabbing hold of his own, he flinched and was going to get a knife out, believing it was another zombie but then heard her voice “Wait, I have you!”
He felt himself relaxed a little when he heard Jin, they sheided their eyes from the shooting snowflakes as they continued forward, “It is almost like that winter from the 1900’s!” he bellowed out as he was trying to find a sight or a road for them to go on. “It was colder than Northern France!”
“And it still is!” Jin stated as she too was trying as the corporal marine, “Do you think what might cause this, Tank?!”
“How the hell should I know-” they then bumped into something that caused them to fell backwards from, they looked up and saw a buff towering figure over them, it was frozen but it’s features are still visible; it was missing a jawbone and a tongue dangling out, its fists are too big for the normal human fingers to curl into one.
They both yelled and Dempsey got out his revolver to fire but then noticed the big hulk-like zombie was indeed turned into an icy statue as it appeared it was about to smash onto something or someone it was targeted.
“Hold on…” he got up on his feet as Jin stumbled onto hers as well, and as they looked around the area, they were barely able to see what else was around them; a horde of zombies, frozen into light blue statues as they appeared to have green vomit leaking from their lips. They way they are posed as if they were after something or someone they were chasing.
More of them are several common yet some are special, one of them had a long tongue as it looked like a frog trying to catch a fly almost similar trait to the Lickers, the other had claws and bleeding from the eyes as the hood had covered its head but its face where it was features shown and it was even being hold up by the ice sickle attached to a nearby building as if it was jumping towards something.
The other looked like it had been crying for a long time judging by the trail of tears on a creature’s features with long nails, long blooded sharp claw-like nails up into the air, ready to strike and like others around her, it was also frozen solid.
“They are…” Jin is finding the courage to speak up in silence besides the noise of the snowstorm, “They are all frozen.”
“You said it, Jin.” Dempsey nodded, zombies frozen in places that reminded him of the time that Nikolai had tried out the Staff of Ice for the first time back in France and it had frozen one of the 115 zombies. “It’s like back in Northern France, Jin.”
“Shh… Something is coming.” footsteps crunching in the snow from the south direction, they turned and ready to confront whatever’s the one responsible. The crunching snow made by two pairs of feet came closer as the figure had formed a shadow from the blizzard. It was the shape of a man and this human had glowing icy blue eyes peering from the hail of snow before stopping in front of them.
Dempsey said “Whoever you are, f*#$er, show yourself.'' With a threatening tone in his voice, the figure responded by raising his hand and then in one smooth motion, his hand traveled to the right shoulder and then washed it back down.
As if on command, the storm driddled and hastily stopped as light from the sun shined through once more, revealing the figure that dwindled in the blizzard. As the snow settles around them, the sun reveals this stranger quickly, he is wearing a blue zukin mask, a hooded cowl with a hat and blue ribbon flowing in the wind yet soon slowly handing it as it dies down. The jacket he was wearing had no sleeves and both of his arms are ice colored unnaturally but they moved just fine with no issue as blue and silver arm guards are strapped to them as well with fingerless gloves, blue wrap around his torso and black boots buried in the snow.
Jin looked at this man as he was staring at them with one scar over one of the eyes, his breath breathed through the mask as it provided four retringle holes as it was seen in the frost.
She walked beside the tensed man before her and then gently rested her hand over the barrel of the revolver then lowered it slowly down as he looked at her in confusion. Jin was certain that the situation would continue negatively.
“We mean no harm, sir, we are not one of them.” She spoke in a calm yet professional manner as she looked him in the eye as they changed colors; from icy blue to normal brown as their glow was lost.
“State your business then.” a deep male voice responded from the man as he stood down as a sign of being less of a threat. “We are only salvagers, looking for supplies to get the hell out of this sh!t.” Dempsey responded with his eyebrow raised.
The man responded “Then we are in the same scerno.” as he had his hand reached his zukin mask and then with little work, he removed it, revealing a beard that is black as a raven’s feathers. “I am Sub-Zero.”
“Sub-Zero, huh?” Dempsey is a little intrigued by the name this man had, “Mind saying why they call ya that?” Yet before anyone could say anything, a loud screech was heard and the couple spotted one of the zombies frozen running towards Sub-Zero. It was one of those hooded special zombies as its teeth are sharped and bared like a rabid dog.
“Watch out!”
Sub-Zero said nothing as the screeching zombie acting like a wild animal was running towards him and ready to strike but they seemed aware of what was happening as he turned and then grabbed this “Hunter” by the head.
It attempted to scratch his arm to break free but very quickly, the frost and ice spread all over it as it stopped moving due to cryo-hibernation the Shinobi had performed upon it as P!Dempsey and P!Jin watched on with astonishment.
And then in one go, Sub-Zero threw it onto the snow-covered road, upon impact, its body, head, arms, legs, hands, and feet had exploded into pieces all over. The head rolled over to Dempsey’s feet as he said “Holy sh!t…!”
Jin was a little shocked to see this happen but they now know why he is called “Sub-Zero.”
“Is this why, Sub-Zero?”
The man only nodded before putting his mask back on, and saying “There are much more things than this.”
“Still freezing the crap out of that freakbag!” Dempsey finally laughed a little, “How did you do that?”
Sub-Zero looked at him and answered “I and my brother were born with these,” as he shook his head at the marine, but then took a moment to examine the duo. They are from a different realm, in a past somewhere from what he could think of.
“Do you two know where you are from?”
“From ours?”
Sub-Zero nodded as he crossed his arms as he looked at them both while the two were standing there, recovering from what had transpired.
“We are from…” P!Dempsey wanted to say what dimension they are from, “1918. We’re from the first world war.”
He looked a little surprised, “We are from different realms, whoever did this must have a purpose for us being here..” he stated, Jin looked at Sub-Zero as her eyes narrowed, “Do you believe this might be a Mortal Kombat tournament?”
“Yes, I do.” Sub-Zero nodded as he turned around then walked away, Dempsey then followed behind him with Jin doing the same. “Hey, we have theories about this bullsh!t too.” he said as their feet were crunching upon the snow passing by the horde of frozen statues with the Green Flu.
“And they might be?”
“It could be the octopus-things called Apothicons that Doc called them, or that some kind of an experiment gone wrong the worst way possible.”
“Or could be Shao Khan or Shang Tsung.” Sub-Zero poked the holes, as he looked down at the ground slowly changing from snow to the dirt ground. “The latter could have done this.”
“What makes you think that?”
“Time to count the suffering.”
“I am sorry, Sub-Zero.” Jin apologized as Dempsey looked ahead as he asked “So, you stated you are born like this, is there any training for that?”
Sub-Zero slowed down a minute and turned his head facing the corporal, “If you are ever born a cryomancer, the clan, Lin Kuei, will train you yet I train you how to use winter’s power, and to control and tame it.”
Jin nodded understandingly, as a shaolin monk, she understood the warrior.
Sub-Zero then stopped himself, which made others stop in their tracks, “Stay quiet.” Sub-Zero’s instincts were quite right, Jin took note and got her hairpin out as Dempsey looked at them in confusion but soon heard voices faintly as he muttered “What the hell is that?” as he held up the revolver once more.
Sub-Zero shushed him and they slowly stepped over to the source of the voices and then kneeled down into the tall grass with P!Dempsey and Jin behind him. The tall grass are yellowish green and the height of grass itself goes up to an average human’s wrist but it was tall enough for an animal to hide, the grass was parted halfway for them to see who was talking, much to Tank’s confusion, and Sub-Zero’s surprise, there were Hyenas standing on their hind legs, holding sharpen boomerangs, bows and arrows, and other weapons that the humans would use. They are dressed in tribal african clothing that seemed to be a mix of 1920’s and medieval age.
They are speaking in an unknown language, a mix of Zulu and strange gibberish pouring from their mouths as they surround carcasses with arrows in them, bleeding from the open wounds. Upon closer look, Dempsey and Jin had realized that those were the strange bears Takeo had slain, faces that looked like tigers but had bodies of normal bears with long tails. patterns of tiger stripes placed upon their dark brown and white fur they bore. Then the other spoke in english “Do you think she will approve of the fest of living Tears?”
“The queen will,” the other Hyena responded as he gently kicked the tiger-bear’s head that had been called Tear. “She had said this once and not twice, the Untotens’ flesh is far too rotten and unsafe to eat.”
“Due to the five plagues they had within.” the other one said with a female voice as she had taken a rag that was used too many times to the point it was just a dark crimson fabric. “Humans weren’t prepared for the All-Five Outbreak 500 years ago.”
“Neither the same with Monsters.” their leader added as gotten a knife out, the one that appears to be made from bone and wood, walking over to one of the Tears’ corpses, “Yet, all five Untoten Hordes were stopped by the Tree of Life.” He spoke as he kneeled down and then stabbed the carcass.
Tree of Life?
Primis Dempsey had heard them wrong or… he had recalled a myth that his mother had recalled when he was a boy, he showed a little interest in his Irish heritage and Celtic religion his mother had tried to force upon.
Crann Bethadn is referred to as the Tree of Life by the Celtics in Ancient Times as they believed that the trees on Earth had several powers and were sources of all life we breathed into our lungs.
The symbol is preserved well for so many centuries by our people of Ireland.
We carry our deep roots of our heritage.
Primis Dempsey had averted his eyes away from the Hyenas to focus fighting that memory in his mind, bad timing to recall the past, bad timing he thought.
“Still, do you remember what our elders had told us over and over?” as several other Hyenas looked at the female hunter in their group, “About the forbidden water that was left behind after Humans and Monsters ascended.”
“Ah yes, Femina, we remembered.” the pack leader answered as he pulled out meat and muscle from a Tear and put it into a sack as blood dripped from the bottom. “Gods of the Old World had accidentally let the forbidden water fall down from the skies, our past elders drank from it and soon, knowledge had changed them the way we are now.”
The trio listened to them as the story behind the ordeal was unfolding, yet it was sickening: an zombie outbreak had happened with all five dangerous biohazards and it had been 500 years later afterwards but what caused it to happen? Then a thought came in Dempsey’s head: Broken, the one that Knight had talked about, might have something to do with it.
Something had done something unforgiving and appealing towards humanity and monsters had made his blood boil but he can’t let it burst out of him, not here, not now.
“The day that world has fallen, the Incident, Humans, Monsters, fled into the stars to flee the terrors.” the other Hyena nodded to the conversion, “Yet, from the previous animal kingdom, Gods of The Old World had given birth to us, Furthers, to watch over the world to wait for their return.”
“Yet, the queen is here so we will have no fear if they will attack or not.”
“I agree now, help me skin them.”
They watched in silence as Hyena Furthers had gotten out similar knives and started skinning the Tears, taking organs and flesh covered in blood as they were placed in sacks as blood dripped and poured from the bottom of the sacks and onto the ground.
All that is left of the Tears now were skinless, fleshly yet bones exposing carcasses. They then got up on their hind legs again like they were human beings and then walked away from the bloody scene.
They waited until the voices and footsteps had vanished in the distance, “We are safe now.” Sub-Zero was the first one to speak up as he and others got up from the grass as Dempsey looked to where the hunter Furthers had gone.
“What the f#$% is a Further?” P!Dempsey asked as he is now the one questioning this reality as Jin seems hinged by this discovery. “Do you remember that I said I had woken up in a house with talking animals, Dempsey?” she asked as he placed her hand on his shoulder, making him look at her with doubt for his sanity and Jin knew it.
“Those talking animals were Furthers as well,” she responded, “They had the bare intelligence of a regular human being yet they had developed their own language and cultures. They had worshipped the ‘’Gods of the Old World'' as their religion.” she explained as P!Dempsey stared at her.
“Holy sh!t..” he said with disdain, “Richtofen wasn’t kidding about different realities, wasn’t he?”
“Who?” Sub-Zero was confused about who Dempsey was talking about.
Jin looked at Dempsey and then rubbed his shoulder a little, he loosened up a little when he felt it with comfort. “Thanks, Jin.” he sputtered nervously aas he looked at her with comfort in his eyes.
Jin smiled softly but then heard Sub-Zero calling out softly to them, “You two, come over here.” as they turned to notice that he was kneeling on the ground, picking something from it, something glowing faintly of soft blue.
The duo walked over to the Cryomancer as he stood back on his feet while looking at the object in his hand. Without a word, he showed them both of what he had found on the ground. They looked to see that it’s a gem, an ocean blue crystal that is about the size of a quarter.
“I had found this crystal on the ground.” Sub-Zero said as he was looking at the crystal with wariness in his voice. “It was glowing faintly, I am sensing strange energy coming out of it.”
“Do you think this is nuts, Sub-Zero?” Dempsey asked out of disbelief and ignorance at first but the look in Sub-Zero’s eyes had told the different answer. “Oh, right.” he responded under his breath as he looked back down at the crystal once again.
Jin was looking at the inscallfincent crystal, resting in Sub-Zero’s palm as she felt like she needed to take a closer look, as if it was holding a secret that none of them don’t know yet. “Sub-Zero,” she spoke softly as her hand had started to lift upwards and going towards a crystal slowly, “Can I see it please?”
Sub-Zero was weary of what she was doing and was trying to get his hand from hers but she had managed to get the crystal away from the palm of his hand and it was a bit fuzzy soon afterwards.
One moment, she was with the two men in a forest with a small crystal in her hands but the other minute later, she was somewhere else entirely and laying on the ground. The day was nighttime as a hand came into her line of sight yet this hand is not her own.
This hand was wearing a violet purple glove with metallic claw armor on it as it was placed onto her forehead, it took a moment to realize that what is happening is that she is in a memory of someone and she is watching this from their point of view.
Flashback of Blood
The person she was witnessing had then got onto their feet as she had gotten a look of their attire. The ninja yoroi was pink colored with slight cleavage showing as this person is a female.
“Hmmm…” a woman’s voice groaned as it sounded like it was an echo, and looked around “The earthrealm is different now, must to find a few souls…~” she purred that made Jin feel on edge just by hearing this from her as she walked ahead from where she has woken up.
As the moon floated over the bloodbath and nearing those hours of sunlight rising, this woman had performed onto the undead yet she often let out a groan or a moan of disdain when she sniffed or looked at them as if they were not the one that she was hoping to find. What was she trying to find?
“Most of these mortals are undead… I wonder if this realm has warriors left?” she purred in strange interest as she dropped the Black Plague zombie onto the ground as a dark red pool formed from its devastated head.
She then heard twig snapped and she turned to see a Hyena Further with an arrow pointed at her, the moment she saw him and the next thing she heard was a dark giggle coming from the woman, the type was feral but with ill-intent and sounded like her prayer had been answered.
“You dare to raise your weapon to your ruler of Outworld?”
The Hyena Further looked a bit shock at first but didn’t have time to react when the woman lunged out at the helpless hunter with her claws out and Jin haven’t seen what had happened next but she did heard the hunter screaming that soon heard a gurgle as well as with crunching of teeth and flesh tearing apart that made her recoiled.
Soon afterwards, she saw two more Hyena hunters with bows and arrows on their person. One of them is a man and a woman hyenas as the female hunter looked concerned.
“Juju?” she asked, “What is wrong, we heard screaming.”

A crunch only answered them, Jin turned to see what it was as they stopped and the other readied the arrow, willing to fight but they both froze in horror. Jin cringed at the sight before her.
The same hand was holding the corpse of their comrade before dropping it onto the ground with blood on its palm as Jin had gotten a good look at the woman’s face; it looked like something that any child would scream in terror in their dreams.
Her face was drizzled in blood as sharp needle teeth were on the outside of her lips and cheeks, forming a mouth, her eyes a golden yellow with short black hair flowing freely.
“She really is real…” she heard a male hyena mumble to his friend in pure shock, “Our queen.” is the only thing that he finished the sentence with.
The woman- no, this creature smiled grisly, “Ah yes, I am your ruler.” she spoke with such atrocious tempting bliss, “Your Queen Mileena.” as Hyenas are trembling in fear.
“W-We…” the lady hyena began to explain themselves with a catch of breath, “We are so sorry, we… We have no idea it’s you.”
“Or even say that it’s-” the lady hyena immediately covered her friend’s mouth before he could finish.
“It is only a shock,” She said as she understood yet the look of her eyes can seem like they would hold potential, “I will let this mistake go for now.” Mileena responded as she lifted up what looked like a windpipe and with one chomb, she ate it, blood flowed through her mouth and dropped onto the ground.
“But for now, I have something for you to do.”
That was the last thing she heard before everything around her had gone into white.
“Jin? Jin!”
A familiar voice had ringed in her eyes, Jin was on the ground and being held by a man wearing a familiar jacket, it’s Dempsey.
She was being held in his arms as she, Primis Tank and Sub-Zero as the sun was over them and in noon time. “T-Tank?” she spoke up in pure confusion as she placed a hand on her forehead, “What happened?”
“After ya took that crystal,” Dempsey started to explain the situation, “you just collapsed when it glowed for a little bit.” as Sub-Zero had removed his mask once again and held the crystal yet he’s making sure that it's as far from her as possible this time.
Jin seemed lost for a moment when she looked at them both, but then remembered back the dream she had for a short time with the woman, Mileena, and Hyena Furthers worshipped her as their ruler- a goddess even. As if she was the one they were waiting for god only knows how long.
But she has to know how long she was out like a light, how long was she dreaming exactly before that first, she turned over to Sub-Zero and questioned him, “how long was I out?”
“Only nearly an hour, Jin,” he answered.
“Yeah, while you were asleep. We had to pray it out of your hand since you were holding onto it tight.” P!Dempsey added further.
“I see…” she muttered softly as she looked at the ground again, the two men looked concerned now for Jin as the birds were chirping sweetly in the green and yellow trees around them as the wind danced smooth as butter.
“Let me guess for you,” Dempsey responded a bit more gently than usual, “You had a hell of a dream when you passed out.”
Jin looked at him with a slight jump from her stupor yet nodded, “How did you see?” Sub-Zero questioned her, “From the start of it, how much did this crystal have foretold to you?”
Jin with what little strength she had in her gut, she told them about it in little detail of the dream regarding the comprehensiveness of itself to them but she had noticed that Sub-Zero looked troubled when she had mentioned Mileena’s name, in fact, he looked like he never wanted to hear this name from someone else, ever.
Dempsey took notice of them as well as Sub-Zero had stood up and then walked from them a bit, giving them some space between himself and the two. “Hey, ya alright there?”
“I am fine, marine.” was Sub-Zero’s response.
“Ya sure, you seemed like you know this Mileena chick.”
Sub-Zero turned to look at them with his eyes glowing again but calmed down right away when he drew in a breath and exhaled it. “She was the creation of Shang Tsung, who was an ally to the former Emperor of Outworld itself.”
“Outworld? The one where Erron was from?”
“Erron Black?” Sub-Zero was surprised to hear that, “He was here as well?”
“Of course.”
Sub-Zero looks down for a moment, thinking of what is happening and how much of this revelation has unraveled itself. “There is going to be another tournament,” he thought without doubt but he is quite skeptical of what Mileena’s intentions are. He doubts she could be capable of doing this; kidnapping people from their own realms and into this one, unknown as uncharted.
“...Does anyone but us here?”
“I dunno.” Dempsey said uncertianingly, “All we know, that there most of us are from our universes alone or in a group that’s brought in this hellhole, Sub-Zero.”
Sub-Zero then turned his body to them both and responded “Mileena will be my responsibility to take care of, you two need to get back to your camp right away.” he then started to travel to the direction where he believed the Hyenas had gone too.
“Hey, where the f$%^ are you going?” he yelled after the shinobi who doesn't stopped walking, “I’m going to find their queen.’” as his arms are covered in frost.
Primis Dempsey was watching him go when he noticed that Jin was trying to stand up, “Ya think you can still walk?” he asked while he stood up, helping her onto her feet. “I think so, Tank.” she simply answered from her dizziness from the crystal's influence, legs wobbling like jelly.
She stumbled but she was grabbed by Dempsey when she nearly fell over, “Hey,” he said, “Don’t push yourself too much.”
“I wasn’t trying too.” she replied, holding on her arm while she’s trying to adjust her balance. When she got hold of her footing, she let go of the marine and then tried walking again but this time, one step at a time.
Still, Dempsey is walking beside her in case of her falling again while she was walking as they went through the way they came in, they walked past the tree line and back to the frozen graveyard of the green flu zombies.
They kept an eye out for anything that moved as they carefully walked past them as Dempsey noticed something that made him realize; the sun was hot enough to melt the ice on a hot summer day and the ones that had been turned into frozen statues were dripping water.
“They’re melting…” he muttered, catching Jin’s attention. “What?”
“These freakbags.”
Jin looked around and saw the ice that jailed them was melting into slush, even the big one, a hulking muscle with normal human legs and big arms that nearly overgrown its fingers. They noticed it was moving a bit by the minute soon afterwards a second.
They walked fastly past the major zombie as the ice was cracking as its arms were vibrating, it was going to break away from the ice in a moment and they both knew it just by looking at it. The popping and snapping of the cryogenic ice getting louder, before they knew it, Tank had said “MOVE!”
He pushed Jin forward as the ice finally gave way, soon afterwards a roar from the creature as its hands, now freed, smashes onto the ground, making the ground rumble under them and they stumble from the impact.
P!Dempsey got out his assault rifle and then immediately opened fire on the giant thing but as blood sprayed off of it’s pale too-much built body, it had no effect and that seemed to enraged the creature.

“Dempsey, get away from that thing!” Jin yelled as the big fella began to charge at the two on it’s knuckles and feet, similar to an angry gorilla ready to destroy whatever had tried to kill its mate and his kid.
He let out a curse and then turned to run from the beast, while they heard it growling. Soon, they heard the ground rumble behind them, Tank turned to see what was going on but soon regretted doing so because this thing had pulled a rock from the ground, hanging it over its head.
“Jin, incoming!” He ran faster and tackled Jin to the ground just as the big boulder was thrown and went over them, smashing onto a nearby car, even though it had aged over 500 years but it is shocking part of this is that its siren had sounded as they looked up. As if it does it despite the age of time.
Soon afterwards, the screeching of the damned was heard from a distance faintly but grew louder as they got back up and soon after he aimed at the incoming horde infected by the Green Flu Virus as he asked Jin “Run or fight?”
She looked at him confused but soon she was brought back by the big creature’s roaring as it was powering through the horde to get to them first before they did.
Dempsey repeated himself loudly.
“Run or fight?”
Jin has already decided on the answer already; she responded “Both.”
He had no time to argue with her so he and she turned to run towards a road, heading towards a hospital while an army of Green Flu zombies closed in the gap as they ran while Tank turned to open fire on them, splitting their heads open, painting the ground in red before turning to keep running.
“F#%^ off, you maggot-asses! Along with that Tank too!” He taunted them, but he is mostly taunting towards the now nicknamed big beast that’s catching up to them more than the horde.
Jin shook her head with raised brow as they reached the hospital, the glass of the doors was long since broken down long ago so they are able to get through them with no trouble but with each answers, it has pros and cons to solve any problems; the con was that there is no barricade to keep the riff-raff out.
Jin had got out her hair ornament from her hair but then she felt a nudge on her arm, she turned to see Dempsey holding a revolver, “Take this!” he ordered her as Jin used her other hand to take it.
“Ever use that gun?”
“I had never used it on a person!”
He fired on a couple of zombies coming closer, he turned his head to her and responded “Well, the best thing to do is to aim for the head.” he then looked at them, he had often felt safe with barricades but he knew that this time it's the opposite, the doors without wood boards and he does not like it.
“Sh!t… What should we do now?”
“I am working on it…”
Just when the horde and the Tank are coming closer, the intercom had rung to life and a new voice came through, it was a different male Australian accent like Sniper’s.
“Oi!” the voice called out, making them look at the intercom with shock and confusion, “Ya two are not one of the Green Flu bastards, are ya?” Then they heard a ding, they turned to look at an elevator opening up with the dimmed light glowing from its ceiling. “Come in the elevator if ya want to live!”
They looked at each other, then they turned to look at the incoming horde and the Tank that is posing through it like a runaway bull attacking anything that has red all over a group of people.
The choices were: Either be killed by the rabid horde and eaten or get in the elevator to where this voice is in one of the five floors.
They looked at each other again and then at the horde before they decided the latter: they ran in the elevator and Dempsey slammed the filth floor button and they readied themselves as the common infected ran inside as the doors hastily closed in.
They are watching them heading towards them as the moving doors closed up and hearing them banging on the doors as they go upward. They ascended upwards as the arrow slowly moved towards and crossed each number as the little moment of relief washed over them, “Holy sh!t….” he muttered, “Never seen anything like that…”
“The horde of the undead or that big creature that could rival a Panzer Soldat?”
“The big guy.” he answered, placing the revolver back in his Back-Pit device and holding his head a little.
“Still, do ya see what it has been doing?”
Jin nodded as she looked down at the ground. “It had thrown the zombies out of the way to get to us,” she softly said, “I can not imagine what it will do if it got to us.”
“Properly literally crush us with those arms,” he halfry joked, crossing his arms as he looks at the arrow going over to the number five, indeciting they are getting closer to the floor he selected. “Besides, we’re gonna be alright now.” he said it too soon the moment the elevator dings upon their arrival on the filth floor.
The elevator doors opened up to reveal their “savor”; a cyborg Carcassian man with device over his right eye or at least acted as his eye, a beard, wore no shirt but a strap that form an X across his chest with the device with glowing red glass, army green cargo pants and boots as he appears to be holding something behind his back.
With a smug smirk, he said in the same accent “Ya made the right choice.” before they heard what sounded like a pin being pulled and then he threw a container at them in the elevator before he had put on a gas mask.
The container they were looking at had exploded and a pretuid smell came from before them as they were trying to get away. “Dempsey watch...ou…” Jin had started to say but the smell had gotten to her that caused her to slur her speech and she fell onto the floor.
“Jin!” He ran over to her but his body started to get heavy but his mind was ordering it to keep going as he stumbled towards her as he was trying not to inhale the stench before he too fell down just inches to her.
The world around him had begun to spin as hearing had started to rung in his ears as the man walked over to them then knelt down while Dempsey watched. He chuckled while he looked at the marine as his eyelids were getting more and more heavy and soon, the world had been drowned in darkness.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
A soft moan left his lips as he suffered a suffocating headache, he felt like he had drunk too many beers while he had his hand stretched the back of his head as he muttered “Argh…. My head…”
He groggily turned his head over to look around as his mind wondered where he was right now and he saw Jin sleeping by his side, sleeping softly with her head on his shoulder. “J-Jin…?” he mumbled as his mind was swimming from whatever happened to him.
Inspecting her closer, her coat was missing as well with her hair pin and her hair was let down and flowed down her back.
As he tried to remember what had been transferred, he looked down to see that his coat and boiler were missing, as he was in his gray t-shirt.
The feeling had come back to him and came with it was metal and rust, at the base of his neck as he raised an eyebrow at this and had his hand reached to what it was and whatever it was it was around his neck.
He then had another hand on it as it dawned on him with distress; he had a collar around his neck. He turned his head at the wall and saw that he was chained to a wall before he looked at Jin and saw that she was collared as well.
He was on his knees and then grabbed her shoulders. “Jin! Jin! Wake up!” he said as he shook her by the shoulders as her sleep was disturbed, her head swayed as she groaned in strained breath as she opened her eyes and looked at Dempsey in confusion.
“Dempsey?” she groaned as her head was throbbing in pain as she held her head, “What happened?”
“I don’t know,” he said as he noticed that her coat was gone as well. “But it has something to do with that guy, I think we have been ambushed.”
“What?”
“We have been ambushed.” he repeated himself, “Have we been captured?” she asked to which he nodded.
They looked around the room they are in, it was dark but the light is peering through the bars above them and only them, but it did luminated what room it is; the ceiling, the walls and floor are made from stone, with reddish brown and moss on the wall but they hardly could see through the darkness.
“I believe we were in a cell.” Jin stated as she looked at Dempsey. He said nothing but then he sat down beside her again and looked down, “In all honesty,” he started to say, “I had gotten myself into worse sh!t like this.”
“You’d been captured?”
“That and many things that I wished could be a nightmare.”
Jin sighed lightly as she lowered her head, “So do I.” as she held her forehead. “I wished the same as you.” while Dempsey looked at her again. He said nothing but looked at her. He looked at the chains and by the look of them, they haven’t been properly clean for a good long while.
There is something moving from in front of them, the peek through hole opened up and the eyes are peering inside looking at them with a contented look in their eyes.
“They’re awake.” The voice echoed softly in the chamber, those familiar, different eyes of a hyena is no mistake for the two to recognize, they heard the clanking of boots is heard from outside the cell and a voice, a distorted woman’s voice speaking to the Further as he looked at whoever she was. “Open the door please.”
“Yes, your highness.” the hyena complied as he hopped down from the hole, letting a bit of light flowing in for a moment as they heard something unlatching on the other side of the door.
The metal door scraped across the stone floor as the rusted yellow light poured in the room as a figure entered and the cell door closed behind her. The clicking of heels returned once more but this time towards them.
Soon, Mileena came into the light of the barred off hole in the ceiling yet she was noticeably different with a zukin mask as Jin had noticed. The corporal sighed and said “Let me guess, you must be Mileena, right?”
“Of course, you had it right.” she confirmed as he and Jin had backed up to the wall a little bit, leaving space between them and her. “Do you know where you are now, kombatants?”

“Your boyfriend, Mileena?” he answered sarcastically, as the chains rattled a little bit behind him with his hand fumbling on the floor for a stone piece that he could use as a weapon in case things could get messy once she got closer.
“Not quite.”
“Hyenas are your army now?”
A giggle as two out of five of her fingers rested on her mask, it was not a good sign as she continued.
“Much so, fair lady.” Mileena responded, “In fact, I am really joyful that they made me their ruler yet honored to have you both here. Even though what I am going to do next may seem… horrible.” she sounded a bit sad when she said this, the marine could mentally roll his eyes at this.
“Must’ve been one hell of an honor to be here, mind telling us what are you about to do to us?”
“Kano had brought this up, I figured that I could at least try-” Mileena had stopped herself when she looked over to him, hesitancy in her eyes when she noticed quite prequitrity.
“Hold a minute,” she started to say, “You looked familiar to me.” She leaned closer to him as he tried to back up but he went into a wall so he was trapped between it and her. “Did I see you before?”
Jin looked over in confusion towards Dempsey as he muttered “I am just one of those faces that just don't like being in a sh!t hole situation like this…!”
Mileena didn't seem to believe but she pulled herself away from him as she shook that thought away, “It doesn’t matter,” she simply replied to his statement, even if it’s barely audible from a man.
“In the next few hours, one will be taken and the other to the tournament.” Mileena explained, “One out of two of you here.”
Dempsey spat out “Like hell that we are going to,” as he gritted his teeth, keeping his eyes trained on Mileena, “You’re stuck here the same as us in this world.”
Another giggle from the deranged woman before this, he had enough of this and he said loudly “What’s so god damned funny?”
“Not too familiar with Mortal Kombat, have you yet?” she asked as her hands reached the back of her head and then began to untie the straps that are holding the zukin mask itself.
“Yeah, someone had told us about it.”
“Oh.” she said as she managed to untie the straps and then took it off. Tank’s eyes grew in shock and disgust but his voice didn’t go out of his mouth as usual, only silence rained down on him as he looked at Mileena before himself and Jin.
“Then you knew how it would end, didn't you?~” she spoke coldly as a tongue slithered out similar to a snake’s as the door opened once again behind her.
-Back at the camp-
Erron glanced over his shoulder for the group of savagers as they are arriving back but yet, he was a little concerned that Jin isn’t with them.
“Where’s-”
“It was a nightmare!” Soldier cuts Erron off, “Gordon had scared off all of the strange-looking deer!” as Gordon had an annoyed expression on his face along with Demoman as the Outworlder can clearly see.
Erron lets out a sigh, “What exactly happened?” to the only two men of the hunting group that are sanerer than this man with low intelligence.
“Gordon was being a quiet boy the whole time when he was hunting the deer. That's clearly different from normal but Soldier is the one who scared them off.” Demoman explained briefly while Gordon Freeman nodded at the end of it.
Another sigh, “I thought so.”
“But cowboy, have you seen Jin anywhere?” Soldier asked as he looked around the front yard, Erron was going to ask them that question in all honesty before he was interrupted.
“I thought that she was with you boys.”
“The lass was with us but we couldn’t find her.”
“Do you know where you last saw her?” Erron asked more.
“We had split up to salvage more items,” Gordon once again said, “I think she went inside a local pharmacy.”
Erron crosses his arms as Ultimis Richtofen came out of the background with Frisk in tow and loudly asked “Have you all seen zhe marine anyvhere?!”
“Wasn’t he here?” he asked with his hand on his forehead once again.
“I had sent Frisk to go find him but zhey couldn’t find him.” he informed them.
“Two people had gone missing.” Erron groaned in frustration, “Last thing anyone wants.”
“Zhen ve have to find zhem!” Ultimis Richtofen announced with pride, sounded less concerned, “Ve can’t leave zhis city of zhe undead vithout zhem, I cannot imagine zhe fates zhey are going through.”
“And we are coming too!” Cuphead said this as he ran out but was stopped at the last minute by Demoman as he picked him up by the handle of his head and turned him around towards the house as he said “No more getting into troubles, and more staying put where it is safe.” as he points at the opened door as Cuphead moaned in disappointment and walked back while Demoman and others watched.
Soldier looked over to his friend and said “You are much more different than you usually are.”
Demoman only chuckled as he shook his head.
No one had failed to notice but the air had gotten cold all of suddenly as they felt it. “Hm?” U!Richtofen muttered as he looked around, “Zhe air is getting colder all of sudden?”
“Doc, it’s impossible,” Demoman stated, “This city was once a desert, ya know.”
“Oh blah blah blah, zhis place can have winters as vell.”
Erron somewhat remained quiet as he was staring something before them, “Frisk, get behind me and into the house.” he commanded, as he shushered them to go inside as others had begun to notice.
“Kuai Liang.” Erron said as he watched Sub-Zero walk over to the group as his eyes were trained on Erron Black. “Erron Black.”
They both stare at each other, Erron had his hand on the handle of his revolver, ready to pull it out of the hoister as frost is visible on the shinobi's hands. “You do understand that I didn’t come here to fight, Erron.”
“I do know that fact,” Erron said as he had his hand up to stop the others from advancing further, “And let me guess this, you don’t remember how you got here too?
“Yes.” Kuai bows as Frisk, Cuphead, Mugman and Bendy are watching the encounter from inside the house, looking worried and concerned of what’s to come.
“Hallo uh, Kuai Liang, is it?” Ultimis Richtofen had spoke up as he walked to stand by Erron for a moment as he looked at Sub-Zero, “You must’ve seen a man und woman by zhis point before you came here, am I right?” he questioned, “One vith brown hair und jacket, zhe other with black hair, fairly pretty skin?”
“You must be speaking of Dempsey and Jin.” Kuai Liang answered as he looked at the German, “I assume they are with you?”
“Oh ja!~” he happily said, “Zhose two teammates of ours, do you seen them?”
“I had left them behind in Suncrest when I had to follow a group of Further Hyenas to see if Mileena was truly here.”
“Mileena is here too?” Erron looked at Sub-Zero who had dropped that bombshell on him, hoping this was just a joke but it’s true as he nodded. “And she leads the what?”
“Further Hyenas.” Kuai answered, “And appearty, it's not just hyenas that are affected by this “Forbidden Water.” they spoke off. They became somewhat an intelligent animal humanoid species after something horrible befell onto the earthrealm or this earthrealm is what they had made their home now.”
“Do they know what caused this?”
“The Incident, involving all five different plagues that includes the one you are currently facing and an entity they called “The Broken.””
“Oh!” U!Richtofen chimed in, “A woman had told about zhis lady but not in full detail about her.” as Sub-Zero looked at him once again. “Has she said anything about the Broken.”
“If she had- Haha!” the Doctor triumphed with delight, “She had taken at least 12 of us avay into another plane of existence or in your vords, another “Earthrealm '' you called it. Und zhis Broken vould drive zhem into insanity or death if I had to put in more details.”
“I will share what I have learned later,” Sub-Zero looked at Erron once again “Are there other warriors here?”
“A bunch,” Erron shrugged, “All of them are different worlds and timelines but it could be enough to bring this bloodthirsty daughter of Shao Kahn down.”
“Und most of us were from our own universes ve called home,” Ultimis Richtofen as Erron raised the revolver a little threateningly but it does seem to silence the Doctor by this much.
“I see.” Kuai nodded, “we must need a plan before we could jump into battle.”
“Ya know, for once, you could be right.”
As being said, Kuai was led into the backyard as others were getting ready to leave the city as the kids were peeking outside to watch others meeting the newcomer. “So, you had met them after encountering a different infection type?”
“But of course,” Kuai answered Bruno’s question, “But I wanted them to be out of harm's way when I did find her.”
“Can you take us to the last spot you left them at, at least?” Scout said with chagrin, “We just lost enough already.”
Sub-Zero made an ickle in response and spoke in a threatening tone “We are getting to that point, young man. Show patience.”
“Are you saying that one of your- their own were captured?” Radec asked as he and his remaining men were being watched over by Takeo while he was keeping a close eye on them while he was cleaning his sword.
“I fear so.” Kuai responded as he crushed the ickle into small pieces, “And you must be Mael Radec from what I am told of.”
“Colonel Mael Radec,” Radec corrected, as he stood up and he was a little bit intrigued that this ninja could barely reached his height, “Our homeworld is Helghan and as off right now-”
“They are trapped here with us,” Takeo interrupted as he had a rag that seemed to be used multiple times to count as he cleaned off the blood crusted onto the blade. Sub-Zero looked at the samurai and he somewhat resembled Hanzo in a way but in World War I form.
Takeo continued “And yet, we had a solution to escape this hell together, uninfected and unharmed.”
“Tak’s right about that.” Frank added “Since for some reason, these zombies can’t literally get out of the state of Utah, as if something is keeping them inside.”
“A tree’s spell…” Sub-Zero muttered as he looked down at the ground and yet, it was audible barely for Frank West to hear.
“What’s that?”
“It is nothing.” he shook his head, as Ultimis Richtofen walked over to him, “I am zhe most curious of you, Mr. Liang,” he said as he looked at the man of ice as he looked at him with an raised brow.
“From vhat I see from you, zhe frost on your arms und hands vithout any trouble at all!” he exclaimed as he took a hold of his arm to get a better look as if he was inspecting a snore or something else that could be intriguing.
“How do your arms vere at normal temperatures instead of breaking apart?” Ultimis Richtofen squeezed his bicep a little to feel the difference, the muscle felt soft yet it is the normal type of soft when you could feel when you squeeze the skin and muscle on your forearm.
“It is only magic, Doctor Richtofen.” Sub-Zero only answered as he pulled his arm away, “I am a cryomancer as I had trained to control the ice magic.”
“I see.” Ultimis Richtofen placed a finger under his chin, he now looked more fascinated by this fact. “Und how do you train?”
“I was the student before I became the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei.” he replied as he turned away and then walked away from the German as he felt like he needed to get a healthy distance away from that man as far as possible.
Something about him was.. Unhinged, he thought.
Others had gathered, talking about something to do after they rescued their allies and escaping Fallen City as they are getting their weapons while Erron is discussing the plan as Kuai will lead them to where he had met Dempsey and Jin.
Sniper and Demoman are talking about what they should do with their prisoners if they make it out of the city infested with the walking dead, then something else that caught his attention however.
“Did ya notice that one of them was missing, laddie?”
“One was missing?” Sniper looked up to have his eyes facing Demo’s only one with stupefaction.
“There were seven of them last night when Bruno took over Bendy’s nightwatch.”
Sniper raised a brow and looked over the Demolimation’s Expert to look at the giant Frenchman and then looked back to Demoman.
“Did one of them escape while on his watch, Talvish?”
“I doubt that, Snipe.” Demoman answered, “Jin had said that she found him slowly regaining consciousness when she found this.”
“Regaining his nongs?” Sniper quizzed, as he tilted his hat a little to rub his fingers on his forehead, “Was his noggin hit by one of them?”
“Ah no,” Talvish shook his head no, “No bruise or a cut on his head whatsoever when she checked on him. Whatever happened to him must’ve been slippery like Spy was.”
“Mate, that is impossible,” the Australian refused to believe his teammate. “If he was knocked out, there could be a-”
“No no no, Sniper,” Demo shook his hand to halt him from speaking his thoughts out, “He had recalled he felt something plunging into his back before he blacked out.”
Kuai Liang didn’t hear the rest as he was already going to find Bruno as he is peculiar about it. He didn’t have to waste time to find him to see if it is true, he may not be with them on the night it happened but he needs to check on what he believed to be an injury. It didn't take him too long to find him when he checked at the withering apple tree and found him sharpening the knife.
“Bruno.” he got his attention as the large man looked at him, the carasian raised a brow and said “Oui, Kuai Liang?”
“Please understand that I am only curious but I heard you’re knocked out while on watch but you were not hit in the head.”
Bruno said nothing but he did nod that confirmed Sub-Zero’s suspicion, the cryomancer walked over to the giant with the understanding look on his face and went behind him as the Frenchman looked at him with further confusion.
“What are you doing-?”
“Do you remember what you felt before you passed out?”
Bruno only responded by looking down, “It felt like something had stabbed me in the back. Like a bee sting.”
“A bee sting, you say?” he said as he pulled the collar of his shirt down a bit as the Frenchman tried to look over his shoulder.
“I do not give you permission to search me.” Bruno interjects but Sub-Zero relents as he pulls it down a bit more and he sees something on the bottom of his neck, near the right shoulder on the tanned skin: It’s a small red dot. It was small enough as if a syringe had poked through and into the flesh.
“What are you looking at?”
“A sting dot,” Kauai answered as he looked at him, “A stab wound small enough to be an injection.”
“I was injected?” Bruno turned to look at him, “With what, exactly, Kauai Liang?”
“Possibly a drug enough to knock a person out yet only someone could be quiet and quick enough to plunge a syringe into you without ease.”
Kuai then had his fingers on his chin, the stable hair brushing against them gingerly, “It could be one of these ‘’Helghast” prisoners you captured.”
“It’s impossible, Kauai Liang.” Bruno denied, “All of them were asleep when I took a watch after the dinner last night.”
Kuai raised an eyebrow at this, looking at the giant before him and asked “If it is not one of them, then who?”
A raven cawed from behind them as they turned to see it flew over to a shed with the old wooden double doors as they were opened just a crack yet the raven was able to wedge between and go inside with no trouble.
Kuai signed Bruno into staying quiet as they unhurriedly walked over the shed on alert as each step drew them closer before they could know it but they stopped when a smell of death hit them both.
Bruno reinched from it, he knew what he was smelling, he was too familiar with the death before and after his time with a gang of thugs and this was a smell of the recently deceased, not the rotting decayed corpse of a zombie.
Kuai knew what Bruno believed to be too as he saw his hand stretched out and then grabbed one of the doors and then pulled it towards them, letting light flood inside the interior of the shed and the sight that greeted them was desolate and horrid.
It was one of the prisoners but what happened is just a grim death. Nothing to say but they noticed the man was stripped of the chest plate and cut open in the chest. Bruno gagged from the sight and turned from it as Kuai did the same with his eyes closed in uncanny disgust.
Bruno looked at him with hairs on the back of his neck raised and said “I think we now know what happened to him.”
Kuai nodded as he said nothing, something like this had the part of him believing it could be one of a Tarkatan or Mileena would do but the other part of himself had believed it could be someone else. Before the latter would say anything, U!Richtofen yelled for anyone to hear.
“Come on now! Ve are now going to get zhem!”
The two men looked at each other, not saying anything but exchanged looks before they walked away from the shed, silent after what they found. It’s going to take a good courage to tell others what they have discovered yet they are worried whoever disembowled him will be still with them as they know.

Chapter 1
of the wwx emperor au
Prologue
The Immortal Mountain City, set half-way between the earth and the heavens, is never fully silent.
In the daylight hours, numerous officials, guards, and guests can be seen, vast courtyards echo with the sounds of practice swords, the gardens are overflowing with court ladies, their colorful robes matching the blossoms. In the nighttime hours, the servants rush and scurry across the six courtyards and twelve palaces, their lamps bobbing unsteadily in the darkness, like a sparkle of fireflies descending on a meadow in bloom.
No court official, who carelessly sets his feet onto the stone steps, knows how many hours it takes to scrub them each night. No member of the inner court, who will lounge in the early morning with ten fragile bowls of delicate snacks, knows how early the kitchen fires must be stoked. No guard, stationed in front of the ornamental shields, knows what oils make them shine in such a way, or how many servants it takes to remove them from the wall, then mount them again once polished.
The little Emperor, not so little any more, knows all this and more.
The Immortal Mountain City is his home. It moves and breathes around him, protecting him from the storms. The rhythm of its heartbeat is intimately familiar, and Wei Ying knows each thud as he knows the surface of his own flesh. The work simultaneously begins on the two thousand steps leading to the Five Phoenix Gate, the East and West gates, and the north-facing courtyards. The southern palaces and the courtyards are next, and the work steadily moves inward, until his own Iron Palm Palace, renamed Jade Sword Palace by his mother, is seen to last. It takes six servants to remove the gold shields from the Iron Palm Palace square, two to properly shine them, then six again to mount them in their proper place. Four hours and sixty-two servants are needed to scrub the two thousand steps leading to the Five Phoenix Gate. And the kitchens, cleaned continuously throughout the day and night, never actually allow their fires to go dark. When Wei Ying thinks of the eternal flame, of the warmth that never extinguishes, he thinks of the bright maze of the Immortal Mountain kitchens, loud and hot, saturated with the scents of pork fried with mushrooms, minced pumpkin buns, and duck soup.
But long gone are days when the little Emperor could sneak into the kitchens, poorly disguised in his sworn brother’s robes, and have the cooks pretend they did not know him. When he could sprawl underneath their work tables, flour dusting his borrowed robes, and wait for a hand to reach down, pushing a lotus mooncake into his sticky palm. Seventeen years old, with his eighteenth birthday only days away, he can no longer claim a child’s ignorance, or depend upon indulgence. The Immortal Mountain City is his home, as much a part of him as his own beating heart, but it had grown smaller in the past few years, and it is about to grow smaller still.
A clatter to his left startles him, and he reflexively hides the wine jar into the folds of his robe. The moon is bright, all the more so from the rooftops of the Mental Cultivation Palace, and Wei Ying only now considers his escape route. The roof of the Six Fans Pavilion, empty and shuttered since his father’s death, can be easily reached from here. Running across its tiles will wake no one. But from there, his only path back will cut across the South Lakes courtyard, and if Wei Ying breathes anywhere near Granny Wen’s herbs, she will know. He is not sure how, but she always knows.
Another clatter follows the first, and a soft whine follows it, a sound Wei Ying would recognize anywhere in the world.
“What are you doing?” he says, “Do you want to fall to your death?”
Nie HuaiSang resembles an exotic bird out of its natural habitat. The cold night breeze is pulling his silk robes every which way, and his perfectly arranged hair is already a tangled mess. Wei Ying is barefoot; his toes are intimate with each crack in the walls, with every tile laid down between his palace and the three main gates. HuaiSang is still wearing shoes; he is sliding over the roof tiles like a drunk deer trapped on a frozen lake, his face scrunched up in concentration.
“You took the wine,” he wails softly, both arms stretched out for balance, inching along the bowed peak.
Wei Ying would not worry if HuaiSang was sober; for all his whining and claims of incompetence, the Emperor’s Royal Companion has the reflexes of a cat, and probably twice as many lives. But they had drank quite a bit already, and even his own head is beginning to swim.
He goes to fetch him, and is unsurprised when HuaiSang dramatically swoons into his arms, nearly propelling them both off the roof.
“I am rescued!” he exclaims, draping himself over Wei Ying’s shoulder, “What an honor, what an adventure! I am to be envied by every maiden in the Empire! Oh, to be held so closely by the noble and exalted Emperor, the Son of Heaven, the magnificent Venom Blossom--“
“Crimson Blossom,” Wei Ying says, lowering him down, “and that was my granduncle.”
HuaiSang tangles in his robes and sits down hard, “Was it? The Serene Golden Lotus?”
“That was my mother,” Wei Ying says, passing the jar over into HuaiSang’s hands.
“Too many titles,” HuaiSang grumbles, peering into the wine.
Wei Ying hums in response. The wine had made him melancholy, and the mention of his mother does not lift his mood. He sprawls along the curved peak, settling his head on HuaiSang’s lap. Below them, lights of the lanterns bob steadily across the courtyard. Above them, the moon is so bright that its light has overshadowed the stars.
It is just another birthday. Another seven day festival filled with obligations, meetings, crowded rooms, sect politics, hunts and competitions, and endless, tedious ceremonies. He had hoped, for this birthday at least, that he would be allowed to leave the Immortal Mountain and descend into YiLing. Although he has never done so, he can picture in his mind all the streets decorated with lanterns and colored ribbons, the songs spilling from the bright doors of the winehouses, the smells of Sichuan peppercorns, fennel, and black cardamom.
It is his birthday. The seven day festival is being held in his honor. It seems so unfair that he never gets to enjoy it.
HuaiSang pokes him in the cheek, “Hey. What is wrong with you? What are you making that face for? I came out here, braving certain death in this bitter, miserable cold to serve at the Emperor’s pleasure, and what do I get? This sour face. If I wanted miserable company I would have gone looking for A-Cheng.”
“Looking for who?” a voice comes from the darkness.
HuaiSang yelps, jerking around, and Wei Ying suddenly finds himself sliding off the peak and down the slippery tiles. He scrambles for HuaiSang’s robes, grabbing fistfuls of silk, but HuaiSang is drunk and has not anchored himself well. For a few breathless moments they are both about to meet the cobblestones below, then a hand is snatching the cloth of his sleeve, roughly pulling him back up.
Safely anchored at the peak again, Wei Ying snickers, then laughs, exhilaration vibrating in his throat. Two assassination attempts a month for the last six years, but he was almost done in by a slippery roof. He does not know why the idea is so funny, but he cannot help and picture the dignified Imperial annals, their golden script reading “Wei WuXian, the fourth Emperor of the Shan Dynasty, died falling off a roof. The Divine Judgment regrets to proclaim that this Emperor was a moron.”
Two centuries of rulers. Leave it to him to end the dynasty by breaking his own fool neck.
He laughs so hard that he is gasping for breath, tears pouring down his face, his stomach muscles quivering from mirth.
When he can finally breathe without wheezing, he looks up, and has to bite his tongue not to start all over again. Jiang Cheng looks furious. To be fair, he looks furious almost all the time, but his eyes are usually trying to murder something off to the side, something that is not the Divine Ruler of the Shan Empire. This time however, if his eyes could actually kill, Wei Ying thinks that the Divine Ruler of the Shan Empire would not stand a chance.
He grins brightly, and tugs on a wide purple sleeve.
“I knew you would change your mind. HuaiSang, give me the jar. Is there any left?”
“I am not here to drink,” Jiang Chang says stiffly, trying to pull his sleeve out of Wei Ying’s grip, “You-- what if there was another assassination attempt? What if you lost your balance and I was not here to catch you?”
“Then I suppose I would die,” Wei Ying says brightly, and regrets it when Jiang Cheng flinches.
He tugs harder on the sleeve, nearly pulling the outer robe off the boy’s shoulder, “Sit. Sit down. Your Emperor is ordering you to sit and relax.”
For a few moments Jiang Cheng looks as if he may kick him off the roof, regardless of consequences. Then he jerks his sleeve out of Wei Ying’s grip and sits down stiffly. He is all hard lines across his shoulders, hair that was tightly bound now ruffled by the wind, and Wei Ying cannot help but compare him to a brightly colored carrion bird, perpetually watchful, and unhappy with its lot in life.
“Shidi,” he whines, leaning his head on Jiang Cheng’s shoulder, “Are you angry? You cannot be angry with me, it is almost my birthday.”
Jiang Cheng shakes him off.
“This one would not dare,” he says coldly.
“Uh-oh,” HuaiSang says, then hiccups, immediately dissolving into drunken giggles.
Wei Ying pouts, “I will tell shijie you are being mean.”
“Not before I tell her you were running across the palace roof again.”
Wei Ying has to admit that he has stepped into that one all on his own. He thinks for a few seconds, his half-drunken mind not moving too swiftly, then grins.
“I will tell Wen Qing you are being mean.”
“You--“ Jiang Cheng sputters, “I-- what do I care what she thinks?”
HuaiSang snorts, and Jiang Cheng leans over Wei Ying’s shoulder, eyes flashing, “Do you have something to say?”
HuaiSang flutters his eyelashes, “I said nothing. I know nothing. I am only here for the wine.”
He holds up the jar as proof, and Wei Ying snatches it out of his hand.
HuaiSang squawks, “Hey! Give that back!”
They clumsily wrestle over the jar until Jiang Cheng snaps, pries it out of Wei Ying’s hands, and forces them to sit on either side of him. Wei Ying sticks out his tongue at HuaiSang over Jiang Cheng’s shoulder. HuaiSang tries to slap the back of his head when Jiang Cheng is not looking. Jiang Cheng finally takes a drink because at this point, he needs one.
Wei Ying grins. Mission accomplished.
HuaiSang starts drunkenly prattling on about some paint that can only be found in LanLing, and how the color is far superior to any paint found in YiLing. Wei Ying makes the pretense of half-listening, but the paint, a constant focus of HuaiSang’s drunk conversation for the past month, is already en route to the Immortal Mountain. Jiang Cheng lets him tuck his feet under the folds of his robes to keep them from freezing. Snuggling back into his cloak, Wei Ying sighs deeply, the earlier melancholy gone for the time being.
He knows they cannot stay long. HuaiSang can sleep all day if he chooses, but the Emperor’s first council meeting of the day is only hours away, and Jiang Cheng will be starting drills even earlier, before the sky even has a chance to lighten in the east. There will be no cozy mid-morning or mid-afternoon nap either. Eleven sects and thirty-six clans are due to arrive in the next two days, and the Divine Ruler of the Shan Empire has a thousand and one details to decide before any of them show.
But right at this moment he is warm and content, and he thinks a few more moments will not make a difference.

5. “Let It Bleed” The Used
This poison’s my intoxication I broke the needle off in my skin Picked the scabs and picked the bleeding And assumed that it was all in vain Pulled at a scab that’s never healing Callused, hit me in the face A burning bridge that’s so misleading Poison’s more potent now with the flame
Let it bleed, take the red for what it’s worth Watch the fire Fill your lungs with smoke for the last time If you feel like dying, you might wanna say
The fire department couldn’t drown the city They didn’t even try to wash it clean And what did you think – that I was sober? Put me out ‘cause I’m on fucking fire I pulled at a scab that’s never healing Regret that I kept this clean The most that I can do for you is keep on lying
6. “Prescription” Mindless Self Indulgence
I’m the doctor, I’m the patient Don’t forget that; it’s important If you love me, like I love me Everybody will be sorry
Well, I don’t need nothing before the show I don’t need nothing, well, that’s not so I need something before the show Just a little something to make me go You know what I want You know what I want Give me more, give me more Pretty please, a prescription Give me more, give me more Pretty please, a prescription
I don’t need no one screwing up my fun Over the counter, fill that prescription I don’t need no one screwing up my fun Turn down the bass and fill that prescription
Make it stop, make it stop Pretty please, a prescription Make it stop, make it stop Pretty please, a prescription
7. “Overdose” Grandson
I couldn’t find the thrill again I couldn’t seem to kill the pain I was living in the moment Searching for a little serotonin But this shit ain’t so fun now I can’t deal with the comedown I’ve been living on the run, now Oh, I gotta get out of this town somehow
‘Cause the bad’s been slowly getting worse In this fast lane, living, it’s a curse Better tell me, what’s your life worth? I think it’s time for a change ‘cause the drugs don’t work Anymore, anymore, anymore
Overdose, overdose, overdose, overdose, overdose All fun and games ‘till I hit the floor, comatose
8. “Little Lion Man” Mumford & Sons
Weep for yourself, my man, you’ll never be what is in your heart Weep, little lion man, you’re not as brave as you were at the start Rate yourself and rake yourself, take all the courage you have left And waste it on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head
But it was not your fault, but mine And it was your heart on the line I really fucked it up this time, didn’t I, my dear?
9. “Dread In My Heart” Mother Mother
There’s a godawful shitty feeling of dread in my heart Yeah, it’s got a lot to do with having to finish what I start And at any second now I think it all might fall apart ‘Cause there’s a godawful shitty feeling of dread in my heart
There’s a devil in my brain with a pitchfork and a flame Yeah, he likes to poke around and he likes to tell me things And whenever I begin to feel like I might be deranged I remember there’s a little shitty devil in my brain
Oh, I wonder what it’s like to be the type who doesn’t burn Yeah, the kind who fights the good fight Not the kind you’d find fisti-fucking-cuffing in the dirt
10. “Heavy Shit” Blake Rose
They tell me ‘why, this is all part of life, you see’ But the world keeps circling around me No, can’t seem to stop beating so hard on myself Hence all the shit I pour out Still haven’t found what I’m looking for No, all of these people keep closing doors They told me ‘you can’t keep holding all this shit to yourself Go find a way to let it pour out’
So here I am, trying to figure where it all went wrong Feel like a ghost in my own damn home Starting to wonder how I got so numb To this heavy shit I pour out Bottoming bottles in the mirror when I’m on my own Feel like I’m lost in my own damn bones Can someone tell me how I got so numb To this heavy shit I pour out?
11. “Discoloration” Dawn Golden
You took my hand and brought me down in the morning And I was sitting waiting for the telephone to swallow me whole I saw your face reflected on the resonant screen And I watched your mouth moving like a tired machine Trying to plead with me Trying to swallow me whole
It’s been a while since I’ve been gone and away And I watched your eyes reflect me in a terrible way As you cast your gaze to the flickering hall
And you knelt beside me and you started to pray And the whites of your eyes blackened with a hardened decay And you talked to me in a broken voice
‘In your open mouth Silence me in your coursing Blood in my eyes Dress me in your clothes And swallow me whole’
12. “Blue And Yellow” The Used
And it’s all in how you mix the two And it starts just where the light exists It’s a feeling that you cannot miss And it burns a hole through everyone that feels it
And you never would’ve thought in the end How amazing it feels just to live again It’s a feeling that you cannot miss And it burns a hole through everyone that feels it
Well, you’re never gonna find it if you’re looking for it Won’t come your way, yeah Well, you’ll never find it if you’re looking for it
Should’ve done something, but I’ve done it enough By the way your hands were shaking Rather waste some time with you Should’ve said something but I’ve said it enough By the way my words were fading Rather waste some time with you
13. “Past Life” Trevor Daniel
I’m trying to be honest with my happiness Don’t know why I’m bad at this And I don’t wanna settle in my sadness I know it’s a habit of mine
Perfect, perfect timing I start what I don’t know how to end Don’t re– don’t remind me I ruined it before it began
Last night was the last night of my past life Got me here like ‘you can never figure me out’ Last night was the last night, was the last time I’ll never let you figure me out Sitting here, talking to myself Thinking how I used to use you, only thing I’m used to Last night was the last night of my past life
14. “Graceless” The National
Graceless Is there a powder to erase this? Is it dissolvable and tasteless? You can’t imagine how I hate this Graceless
I’m trying, but I’m graceless Don’t have the sunny side to face this I am invisible and weightless You can’t imagine how I hate this Graceless
I’m trying, but I’m going through the glass again Just come and find me God loves everybody, don’t remind me I took the medicine and I went missing Just let me hear your voice, just let me listen
All of my thoughts of you Bullets through rotten fruit Come apart at the seams Now I know what dying means I am not my rosy self Left my roses on my shelves Take the wild ones, they’re my favorites It’s the side effects that save us Grace Put the flowers you find in a vase If you’re dead in the mind it’ll brighten the place Don’t let ‘em die on the vine, it’s a waste Grace
There’s a science to walking through windows There’s a science to walking through windows There’s a science to walking through windows There’s a science to walking through windows without you
15. “End Credits” Eden
Cigarette ash like wildfire, burning holes in the nighttime Open scars cut like barbed wire White lies flying high like a ceasefire Dropping flags on the shoreline This is as far as I can feel right ‘Cause what you don’t know can harm you
And all we ever wanted was sunlight and honesty Highlights to wanna repeat Let’s get away from here and live like the movies do I won’t mind when it’s over At least I didn’t think for a while
So let’s run, make a great escape And I’ll be waiting outside for the getaway It doesn’t matter who we are, we’ll keep running through the dark And all we’ll ever need is another day We can slow down, ‘cause tomorrow is a mile away And live like shooting stars ‘Cause a happy ending’s hardest to fake
16. “Bloody Shirt” To Kill A King
What you wanna do tonight? I got wounds to lick in life All you’ve said Standing like a stick, this tie could invert to be a noose instead
Oh, you’re lying next to me Heart is beating heavily Blood in your hair, though, oh, and blood on your shirt
It’s too late to say you’re sorry, say you’re sorry still And I stepped out with heavy heart to bail you out again All those things you do, and all those things you do
Get out, get gone, this town is only gonna get worse Get out, get gone, this town is only gonna eat you

Every carpet, every floor, everywhere I look, I fall Climbing up the walls, I’m climbing up the walls What goes on behind these doors I’ll keep mine and you keep yours We all have our secrets, we all have our secrets
Behind every door is a fall, a fall And no one’s here to sleep
You were always faster than me I’ll never catch up with you, with you Oh, I can feel them coming for me
Here’s the pride before the fall Oh, your eyes, they show it all I can see it coming, I can see it coming As I rise up through each floor Shit gets dark when you lose it all I can hear it coming, I can hear the drumming
18. “Shots” Imagine Dragons
Am I out of touch, am I out of my place When I keep saying that I’m looking for an empty space? Oh, I’m wishing you’re here But I’m wishing you’re gone I can’t have you, and I’m only gonna do you wrong
Oh, I’m gonna mess this up Oh, this is just my luck Over and over and over again
I’m sorry for everything, oh, everything I’ve done From the second that I was born, I sense I had a loaded gun And then I shot, shot, shot a hole through everything I loved Oh, I shot, shot, shot a hole through every single thing that I loved
Am I out of luck, am I waiting to break When I keep saying that I’m looking for a way to escape? Oh, I’m wishing I had what I’ve taken for granted I can’t have you when I’m only gonna do you wrong
Oh, I’m gonna mess this up Oh, this is just my luck Over and over and over again

I hit the sidewalk, and this is how it starts Hide in a raincoat when things are falling apart
After leaving your apartment I hear the coast by nightfall So sure to keep you dreaming You understood Oh, I know you understood Yes, sir, it shows I was no good Alright, alright
I hit the sidewalk, and this is how it starts Hide in a raincoat when things are falling apart ‘Cause sooner or later this is bound to stop Come on, let’s savor What we’re falling over

Oh, living for the city And it’s always troubling to keep it in the high lane I don’t care about no scenery And you run from it then Now you can’t escape
‘Cause it’s all you see But we’re all just an end to a simple thing And it’s all you see And it’s all you see
We’re just tamer animals We’re just tamer animals

I have tried to quantify the reasons I feel incomplete I guess sometimes my wisdom it figures that’s what I need I have tried to sit beside these demons that trip up my feet I guess sometimes it’s weakness that strengthens the skin on your knees
I’ve not liked myself for quite some time now Standing at the mirror with the lights out Try to keep my shadow at a distance Scared of what it’d say if it could listen
I’ve not known myself for quite some time now Staring at the mirror with the lights out Screaming words that I should probably whisper Terrified the light above might flicker

Veto- Chapter One
To Genevieve, morning always seemed to be the cruelest part of the day.
Nighttime was easy. Any and all responsibility was just beyond her apartment door, the only thing left up to her at that point being what she was going to feed herself and what kind of alcoholic beverage she was in the mood for. Typically it was something mixed with vodka and some sort of take-out, or food brought home from work. She could just settle down into her worn couch, lint pebbling on its almost too-comfortable surface, and tune into the blue light that was her TV. The perfect evening to shut out a usually less than perfect day. If that wasn’t exactly the speed she was going for, she would let that responsibility tap it's probably clubbed foot on the outside of a club entrance, Genevieve dancing on top of a table with her best friends while they took turns taking shots. This of course added to the pain of mornings, her hangover rearing its head as soon as she opened her eyes. That was what made this one in particular so gruesome.
She blinked her eyes open, immediately squinting at the light drifting in through her window. She had blackout curtains for this reason exactly, but last night in her drunken haze she had forgotten to close the blinds in order to protect herself from this exact occasion. She knew she was paying for it now, burying her nose back into her pillow and letting out a strong exhale. Outside she could hear the construction crew that was already bang-bang-banging on the complex that was being built next door. While the noise bothered her to no end in the beginning of her lease, she had grown used to it and knew that it was the reason her rent was so cheap in the first place. Even the catcalling had become white noise, but she still held up a middle finger most days when she walked by to do her laundry. This morning the jackhammering reminded her of the pile overflowing from the basket, and she let out an audible groan before pushing herself up and out from under the covers.
Six months ago she had dropped out of school, packed up all her shit, and moved to a place just outside of Malibu. Cecilia, her best friend from high school, had moved there immediately after graduating with her boyfriend at the time. While they ultimately ended up breaking things off, she stayed there to work and enjoy the sun and freedom that came along with the California heat. When Genevieve had called her for probably the thirtieth time, having an anxiety attack about not being happy or knowing the true direction of her life, Cece had suggested that she move down to the West Coast to figure things out. Within a week she had officially unenrolled from the business school at NYU, dyed her brown hair blonde in a Tesco bathroom, and packed her tan colored 2007 Subaru Forester to trek across the country. She camped in her car along the way, grateful for the couple before her who had tinted the windows. She didn’t tell her mom what she had done until she was pulling onto the Pacific Coast Highway, receiving an earful that ultimately ended as soon as her back tire popped and she had to pull over. She didn’t see why it mattered anyways, leaning against the dirty vehicle while she waited for the AAA guy to pull up and save her ass. Her mom couldn’t afford to help her with school, and so really the only money at stake was her own. That was a whole other tier of stress on her shoulders; the student loan debt that she still had to pay off despite her lack of degree. She was relieved to get her own place after staying with Cece for two weeks, but even after she pushed open the door to her new apartment, the discontentment that she had felt in New York lingered in her head like a fog. It was bearable now, though, and so she took that as a sign that she was taking the right step.
She stands on the cool linoleum flooring designed to look like hardwood, stretching her hands into the air and hearing her spine pop. The rush of blood circulating through her body makes her head throb, causing her to release a pathetic whine and hold her hand to her forehead. She grabs her glasses from her nightstand, putting them on and pulling open the drawer to find god’s gift to the earth. The bottle of Tylenol rolls to the edge of the drawer, it’s only occupant besides an Altoids tin with condoms in it. She grabs the bottle and pops it open, shaking out two pills before throwing her head back to toss them in. She pops her head under the sink in her bathroom to swallow them down, wiping the bit of water that escapes with the back of her hand. Genevieve then gets ready for the day, peeing and brushing the fuzzy feeling and stale alcohol from her teeth. After getting dressed in a somewhat-clean Led Zeppelin t-shirt and shorts she grabs her laundry basket, her keys, and heads out of her studio onto the walkway outside.
Hidden Hills apartment complex was an old motel that had been converted into a low-income housing space, which had then just been converted into the complex that it was today. It was really nice for the price point and the area, and Gene was incredibly grateful that she had found it while it was still available. When she had moved in the owners had just finished remodeling and had begun work on the buildings that were going up now. Apparently they had knocked down the walls in between two motel rooms to create each space, making it a decent size for one person or a couple. The more expensive suites had become two bedroom apartments across the parking lot, so there were a few small families that lived there too. For the most part, though, it was people just like her who were calling it a rest stop on their way to something better.
When she walks into the small laundry building attached to the main complex, she’s greeted by an older man in his early sixties hanging up colorful speedos to air dry in the corner. Victor was two doors down from her, and had lived here for at least the last two owners as far as she knew. He never really disclosed how long he had been there, though, which was very purposeful on his part. It wasn’t because he was ashamed by his living situation, being the oldest in the complex by at least thirty-five years. Victor absolutely romanticized the mystery he had created, introducing himself as a flaming homosexual from the south who had participated in the Stonewall Riots of 1969. When he found out that she had moved from New York City herself, he immediately took her under his wing and became the strange gay uncle she never had. Other than his horrible habit of sunbathing in the nude on his balcony, she really liked him and valued his insights and advice on life in general.
“Well would you look at who the cat dragged in! You look something horrible, Genevieve.” He says when he sees her, crossing his arms over his wife beater and kimono. He had on bright yellow swimming shorts too, which were inappropriately small for anyone other than him. She winces at his voice, wrinkling her nose while she puts her basket on top of a dryer.
“Don’t talk so loud. I just woke up.”
“My lord Jesus almighty, honey, it's past noon.” He turns back to his pile of wet clothing, pushing them into a dryer. He starts it and watches it spin for a second before leaning against the white metal, turning to look at her. “Have a good night?”
“I’m not sure. Can’t exactly remember all of it.” Gene rubs her temples, putting in her laundry soap and starting the load.
“Those are the best kind.” He smiles at her. “You know, Genevieve, I’m very glad that you’re not a prude introvert who just stays in all the time. Have fun while you can, enjoy that hot, young body of yours to the fullest!” He shimmies his shoulders at her while she rolls her eyes. Despite being a very progressive LGBTQ+ man, he was old fashioned in that he didn’t call her by anything other than her full name. He was firm in his belief that a name was important and said a lot about a person, that it was their identity and was a part of them. Whether the name was given or not, he always called everyone by their name even if they introduced themselves with a preferred nickname. There was a guy that had moved out a few months ago, whose name was actually just Nick, but Victor called him Nicholas anyways. He felt it suited him better, and was more classy. He claimed he would get further in life as a Nicholas over just a Nick, but never really got the chance to find out. Which was just as well.
“Being a prude introvert is not a bad thing.” Gene points out, raising her eyebrows at him. “Isn’t the whole point of personality and sexuality that it’s your own?”
“Aha, my child, you’ve learned so well. I’m giving myself teacher points for that. I’m just merely pointing out that I saw a very good looking young man leaving your apartment at the asscrack of dawn two weeks ago-”
He ignores her. “-and I’m very proud of you for embracing this youth that you’ve been blessed with! Not everyone is so intelligent, Genevieve.”
“I hardly think sex is a factor to intelligence.” She laughs, hopping up onto the washer to sit.
“Perhaps not, but it's exercise, and a healthy body is a healthy mind.” He taps his hairline to emphasize his point.
“So are you keeping a healthy body for your healthy mind?” She teases, kicking her legs back and forth.
“Oh pish. Don’t trouble yourself with an old man’s sex life. That’s the last thing you want to hear about.”
“Then stop meddling in mine!” She laughs, reaching her foot out to tap his side affectionately. This draws out a smile, a chuckle escaping his lips wrinkled from thousands of Kent cigarettes.
“You don’t have to do what I say, sugar, but listen just to humor me, alright?” Gene can tell by his tone that this would be something she would want to hear, so she shuts her mouth and does as she’s told. “I’m very glad that you’re so confident in yourself. Even if you don’t think so, you’re more secure in your body and in your looks than the kids your age I’ve met. Definitely more so than I was. But maybe that's because you’re straight.” She cracks a smile at that, and he puts his hand on her knee. “That being said, honey, I don’t want you to shy away from love when it lands at your feet. Take it from an old man who has made many-a-mistake in his lifetime. When something falls in your lap, take it, run with it, and don’t let it go. Don’t chalk it up to a random hook-up just because that’s what you’re used to.”
She recognizes his seldom solemn face, nodding her head. He returns it with a tight-lipped smile, squeezing his hand. “I’m not saying don’t have casual sex, because that would make me a hypocrite. Just… when something comes along, and you can’t quite put your finger on what about it makes it so special… don’t let go, alright? Even if it scares you. Promise me.”
“I promise, Victor.” She puts her hand over his, smiling at him genuinely.
He seems to accept her sentiment, shaking his head with a small smile and moving to grab his laundry basket. “You know sweetheart, I’m going to be very sad when you become too good for this old shack.”
“Please. Even when I do manage to get out of here, I’m comin’ back to visit you and drink all your wine.”
“That’s a girl. Next time let me know when you’ve got back home safe, okay? I worry about you when your car’s gone, honey, it’s not safe for pretty young girls in the dark of the night. You know that.”
“I will. If you don’t sunbathe naked anymore.”
“Unfortunately, Genevieve my dear, you cannot ask an old man to make promises when he’s already set in his ways.”

Love Child
Based on this request:  His could you do a Sandor Clegane with Brnjen’s starks bastard daughter? Like Ned raised her cuz Benjen was at the wall and she’s with Sansa during Blackwater and choose to go with sandor and they slowly fall in love and she thinks he’s dead after his fight with brienne? Then season 8 roll around and they reunite and it’s so fluff cuz she was pregnant when he fell(she didn’t know) and know they have a toddler to raise? How cute would that be?! Thanks so much have a great day!!!
Here you go! I do not own Sandor. He belongs to George R.R.Martin.
Warnings: Angst and fluff, injury and other stuff. NO SPOILERS!
Pairings/Characters: Sandor Clegane x fem!Snow reader, Colren Snow(OC)
Tumblr media
Sandor couldn’t help but think how different it was the last time he’d been here.  Both Winterfell and himself. The last time, he was simply the Hound, Joffrey’s sworn shield: a killer above all else. He was different now. Time had changed him. He was still the killer but his heart was a little more open now. You had seen to that.
When Sandor first met you, he didn’t know what to make of you. All the makings and practiced social graces of a lady, but the name of a bastard. Benjen Stark’s bastard. You spoke your mind without worry about most people and you were witty too. Sandor would never forget how you met.
Sandor’s eyes scanned the group in front of him, wary of everyone who could potentially harm the prince. His gaze stopped on the young woman standing behind Ned Stark’s oldest boy. Much to his surprise, your eyes were already glued to his. You didn’t look afraid or disgusted. You looked curious if anything. That was worse than anything. Sandor felt himself becoming warm under your intense gaze.
"Dog! Don’t stare. It’s considered bad manners to stare at a lady…even if she is a bastard.“ You arched a brow and looked Joffrey. "It is also considered rude to berate someone for doing nothing. Even if you are a prince. Perhaps he could teach you some manners.” Joffrey’s face turned red while Cersei looked like she’d swallowed a lemon and Robert let out a laugh. Catelyn scolded you, but you never tore your gaze away from Sandor. When everyone else dispersed, you remained with your eyes glued to him until he was out of sight.
It was a meeting Sandor would never forget for as long as he lived. You had spoken up for him when no one else had ever done that before. That moment was the beginning of everything that would change both of your lives. When you joined your uncle and cousins on the road to King’s Landing, you seemed to find it impossible to leave Sandor alone, even when he wanted you to.
“I don’t understand why everyone is so frightened of you,” you said, making Sandor glance at you. He was sitting, sharpening his sword and you sat next to him. “Because I’m a killer. Now off with ya, girl.” You glared. “I’m not a girl anymore. And I don’t want to leave. Sansa is off kissing Joffrey’s arse and who knows what Arya’s up to. That leaves me to find something interesting on my own and I find talking to you interesting.”
It was that way the entire journey to King’s Landing. Every day, you would find a way to see and talk to Sandor, usually when Joffrey was off with your cousin. After about two weeks, Sandor gave up on ever getting you to leave him be. So, he started talking to you as well and he would be glad of that. You were different. You never stared at his face and you never shied away from him, even the day he came back covered in the blood of the butcher’s boy. You helped him clean up, despite his protests, and that night something sparked between you.
Sandor remembered how much better you’d faired in King’s Landing than the other Starks. Probably because you had no claim to any sort of title. You spent most of your time in the libraries or gardens or the Kingswood. Except at night. Nighttime would always find you with Sandor, drinking or talking, or a little bit of both. Sandor had never expect to get so close to you and it was the night of the Battle of the Blackwater that Sandor came to the realization that would shake him to his core.
Sandor was shaking in his boots as he watched the bay light up in green flames. Of all the things he expected, wildfire was not one of them. His one fear right in front of him. He had to get out of there. Gathering up the last bit of courage he had, he turned and headed back for the Keep. He was done with this city. Hopefully for good.
He entered the Keep and headed for his chambers. Much to his surprise, you were there. “What are ya doing in here? Shouldn’t you be hiding with the other ladies?” You shook your head. “I didn’t feel safe there. I feel safe in here.” Sandor arched a brow. “And what about your cousin?” You gave a soft smile. “She had Shae protecting her. She’s alright. I…I just needed to feel close to you right now.”
It was the softest and most vulnerable thing Sandor had ever heard you say and he realized that the uneasy feeling that he’d had was the same. He wanted to be near you all the time. The thought of dying out there or letting Stannis’ men get to you made Sandor’s blood boil. He couldn’t even think about it without feeling angry and sick. What was wrong with him? He felt weak.
"Sandor, I want to leave. It’s only a matter of time before Joffrey decides I’m disposable. I don’t want to die at his hand.“ You reached over and placed your hand in his. The small gesture was enough to make the smallest of smiles appear on Sandor’s face. He didn’t truly understand the hold you had over him but, if he didn’t know better, he’d swear it was love.
Sandor fought back a sigh as memories continued to flood his mind. As the two of you had traveled together, you grew even closer. It hadn’t taken long for you to admit that you loved Sandor and, while he only rarely said it out loud, he loved you too. From then on, everything changed. Days were spent travelling in easy companionship and nights found you tangled together in passionate embraces. Until Arya joined you. After that, things took a turn for the worst.
Sandor didn’t know what happened to you after his fight with Brienne of Tarth. Until he’d seen her again in King’s Landing. The only thing she’d tell him was that you were still alive. He still didn’t know where you were or what had happened to you. Were you injured? Married? He didn’t know, but he would soon find out hopefully.
Feeling eyes on him as he dismounted his horse, Sandor searched the courtyard of Winterfell. They found Sansa first, but then they landed on the person next to her. There you were, alive and well, looking at Sandor with tears in your eyes. Sandor almost smiled. Almost. But then he caught sight of someone else. Clasping onto your hand, was a boy, only a couple years old by the look of it.
You hiked the boy onto your hip and made your way down to the courtyard and Sandor’s gaze never left you. His memories did not do you justice. You were even more beautiful with the snow all around you and that smile on your face. Neither of you spoke until you were mere inches apart.
"Sandor,” you spoke softly. That was all the incentive he needed. In an instant, you and the boy were in his arms. He didn’t even care that there were people around. Granted, they all seemed to busy or wary of him to pay much attention.  "I thought you were dead.“ Sandor grunted. "So did I.” Sandor pulled back, fighting the urge to pull you into one of the searing kisses he used to give you. That was when the boy on your hip made a noise. Sandor finally got a good look at him and was amazed to see a pair a familiar brown eyes looking back at him.
"This is Colren Snow. Your son,“ you told him. Sandor looked between you and the boy for a moment. He had a son? "You were-” You nodded, answering his unfinished question. You had been pregnant when he’d fallen from that cliff. Now you had a child. Sandor had a child. Sandor didn’t know whether to be excited or scared. He settled on both.
You cleared your throat before speaking again. “Perhaps you would care to join us inside and I can tell you all about him?” Sandor agreed instantly. You beamed and turned to go inside the warm castle. Sandor followed, feeling happy and at peace for the first time in a long time. He didn’t know how much longer he would live, but he knew he was going to make the most of the time he had with you and his son.

Discover the Famous Places of India
INCREDIBLE INDIA
We arrive at the territory of 1,000 languages along with 1,000 gods. In the Intercontinental, the ladies in my personal collection are well versed with marigolds and branded with all a standard red dot onto our foreheads. This lodge is an oasis of luxurious at a polluted metropolis of 14 million folks. Two times have been spent traveling Delhi. The sites comprise Gandhi's Tomb and lots of UNESCO World Heritage Web Sites. Wherever else have historic customs combined together using the present in the scale therefore clear as in Delhi. Extra fat sacred Brahma bulls block site visitors creating flaws. Within this land, cows guideline. Canines, monkeys, and kiddies cross their risk.
I really like spiced foodstuff and commence each evening with a3 alarm-curry breakfast. We mind through trainer for Rajasthan, the gorgeous desert country by which cattle are substituted with camels. The atmosphere will be sweeter and that which more vivid. Here's really a microcosm of everything India is. Many folks are refined having a stunt in the event soul and light at the sight of thieves. We always tide by way of our chimney to people that struggle with fascination and appear to mention "why should you ever come ?" Like being a lover of this 3rd universe, this spot was around my own fantasy record for ages. I vividly enter that area of traveling providing you with me astonishment.
We have begun to wait for the yearly Camel honest at Pushkar that's occurred for one million decades past Whilst the entire world's most significant, it's in its summit attracted 50,000 camels by 200,000 dealers. We all unpack at our camp identified as unique Adventures. Our spartan tents didn't en suite baths but bathroom paper has been in a top. That has been a 2-4 hour shield out who stingily rationed his or her quota. From the summer, nighttime is freezing and afternoons sweltering. I confided into some guests in your American Embassy I felt as though that I had been at an episode of"Survivor." She whined reassuring me it had been worth every penny. So on my jolt turns out into amazement since I input fairgrounds.
Place on kilometers of sand slopes using festooned camels plus also a flood of pilgrims, the spectacle appears utterly forgettable. It's such as a Condition Fair On-steroids. That clearly was really a flurry of horse, bullock and camel races, competitions such as milking, creature adorning, turban linking, tattooing in addition to snake-charmers, completely free carnival rides, mystics, astrologers and magnificent booths of handicrafts at reasonable rates. The earth reverberates using pursuits. Countless Rajasthani lady has came dressed up in their very best apparel in close sweet colors. I see illuminated monkeys, painted cows, and cobra's dancing. No words could adequately clarify this helter-skelter overwhelms my 5 perceptions. The others could possess Europe having its own cathedrals and museums. As an example personally, this really exotic vulnerability and ethnic immersion would be your best traveling!
Wrapped in the dust, and people come back. Every single night there's entertainment underneath the celebrities together with musicians, folk dancers, puppet present or flame fighters. No alcoholic beverages are authorized and all foods are vegetarian buffets. An Ayurveda middle delivers us treatment options to cleansing toxins. We reduce these induced throwing up, enemas, nasal drainage along with blood-letting.
We see the sacred town of Pushkar having its own sacred lake made by Lord Brahma. Pilgrims appear from afar to wash at the ghats and snore round-the-clock. We know about religions: Zorastrism,'' Sikhism, the mysterious Sufi's, Jainists who won't eliminate a mosquito, Hinduism that asserts no total accuracy and also the caste system. We see temples in the lake; a few really are"blessed" by priests. Later on, a highlight for me personally was 1 hour Camel Cart Safari supporting the scenes of this honest. Kiddies line our path yelling to us"Hello, 1 pencil remember to!" We view a slaughtered and half of nude folks washing daily. Straight back within the reasons we see an orphanage and scatter separately for lost from the frenzied revelry. We trip enormous spitting camels offering us an increased view of this all. I buy twelve garnet silver and necklaces ankle bracelets. Teen boys tactic Terry to picture him. He has 6'5'". One as him"Sir, what would you consume?"
Our collection proved to be all wonderful!
You will find infinite food however we ought to pass enticements to protect against"Delhi stomach." I detect that the cacophony of insanity lovely. Pushkar is quite an event affair for those sailors and also we have been an only captioning company. I am really so thankful to undergo this a while and energy to move with all our hectic trip.
We arrive at the famous"Pink City" of Jaipur, today a more profound maroon from contamination. Additionally vacationing its own palaces, architectural and fort marvels, we know of those amazing Amber rulers and maharajahs of this Moghul empire. Heritage will come alive and now also I locate myself interested because I cared for. And here's really a shopper's heaven for silk sarees, stone, marble, and jewelry crafts. I saw a creature refuge known as"Assist ." The most peculiar examples of species have been treated by volunteer veterinarians. Exotic 5 stray canines have been sterilized each day and that I see an operation. (Watch www.HIS-INDIA.com ) you are able to easily email them a test to provide help.
Only assist in Enduring' a puppy spaying Building a contribution Volunteer vets speak to Suzy
Onto observe the expansive Fatehpur Sikri, "Ghost Town of Akbar" which has been left as a result of lack of plain water. We reach Agra, a busted town of 2.5 million. Hawkers disturb us. Chained conveys dancing for rupees on the road. Starving kids ensue. We're grateful to marvel in the deluxe Sheraton the following along with its own western cuisine and also cheap massages at $20. It had been similar to a galaxy shift from your Caribbean.
Soon after seeing an eyeful of miracles on the way in which, we've spared the very best for final in the planet's biggest tribute to really like. Goose-bumps climb since I input the royal gate into the Taj Mahal. Morning sun warms it as just a perfect pearl...22 years to construct with 200,000 adult men with two million bits of wrought semi-precious stone. After having a lecture about which this ideal symmetry is made to get Queen Mumtaz, we distribute to picture exactly what looks like quite a mirage. It's poetry in design so that as glorious as is envisioned.
Straight back in Delhi, most of us like a completely free afternoon of leisure to research once we all choose! Most proceed shopping since deals will be low but just how lots of Pashmina shawls do you want? For the final day, we now enjoy a series known as"Dances of India" followed closely by means of a farewell banquet of the Last Day (Indian) Supper.
That I remise still another travel well done with great manuals, motorists, accommodations and assistance. I remember my favored time that happened in the reason when I employed two"human anatomy manuals" to aid me throughout the audiences, Jamal and also Ranchi. Both of these 11-year-old boys ensured me enjoy barnacles along with also their glistening grinning faces that will probably forever stay etched in my own memory of India. This excursion has revived my fascination with the earth reminding me that my love of traveling proliferates itself. The longer I visit, the longer I desperately wish to watch.
This nation will be for the traveler. I'm exceptionally impressed with all the fortitude and persistence of my bunch of sixty persons in a property of infrastructure that is jagged. For a while, it had been their very first trip to this next world nevertheless all of them lived to enjoy experts. To see discomfort hand would be your most economical approach to love dwelling. We watched matters both dreadful and joyous. The phrase"intriguing" but would amount up the whole holiday season. I have to reunite back again.
