Guys, today I have something exciting and different for you on my blog!
A Q&A with the influencer Yūn Mago!
yukimago on Instagram ↼ click here to go to her Instagram profile
If you don´t know her let me introduce her. Her artistic name is Yūn Mago, she´s 17 years old and she was born and raised in the Philippines but she moved to New York for schooling. The young Yūn has already collaborated with multiple brands, mostly beauty and fashion, some of them are Jill Stuart Beauty, ALAND, TheYeon and O-lens. I bet that after intruducing her you´re looking forward this interview.
♡ How would you describe your style?
My style shifts between internet trends and things I feel comfortable in. I’ve noticed that I’ve been doing vintage looks with a lot of edge recently. Regardless of the fashion style, I always incorporate small details that help unify the elements of the outfit.
♡ What or who is your main inspiration when you create your looks?
A lot of my inspiration comes from older 2000s anime and Japanese films, surprisingly! Some of my favourite anime include Fruits Basket, Paradise Kiss, and Nana. I used to watch a lot of anime from various genres and mostly pulled fashion styles from those. To me, it’s a way of paying homage to my childhood.
I’ve also drawn inspiration from Asian fashion styles and traditional clothing. It connects me to my roots.
♡ What do you think the importance of self-image is?
Self-image is definitely an important priority for everyone, especially developing adolescents. How you think of yourself can greatly affect your behavior and actions. Your confidence is immediately tied into your self-image.
♡ Do you think personal image and good presence is important? Why?
Personal image is important, without a doubt. However, a good presence is always subjective and, in some cases, not necessary.
Your image of yourself should be your concern, not anyone else’s. After all, it is your reputation that is your responsibility. It’s not up to anyone else to tell you how to dress, talk, act, think unless you’re harming yourself or others. How you choose to present yourself is all up to you.
♡ How do you think personal image can affect people in a positive way? And in a negative way?
Personal image, especially self-esteem and self confidence should be viewed in a positive light. Yet, that is not what happens in most cases. A large number of adolescents and young adults deal with low self-esteem stemming from societal expectations. As cliche as that may sound, it is the truth; social norms have caused many to subdue their creativity and personal preferences. Because of this, one may think they aren’t “good enough” to fit in.
Meanwhile, obsession with personal image can lead to constant overthinking and critical judgments of oneself and others. There is a fine line between confidence and egotistic/narcissistic behavior.
♡ What do you think about piercings and tattoos being prohibited in some jobs?
I understand that piercings and tattoos are not inherently offensive or bad. Unless they contain hate speech, offensive references, or obscene imagery, they should not be considered “unprofessional”. Many workplaces in the 21st century have been opening up to allowing tattoos to be shown. Such is a policy that has been instated by millennials who understand the significance behind tattoos and piercings.
While I do think they should be allowed, I cannot guarantee that this same belief is shared by others in countries such as Japan, where tattoos are a taboo. An understanding of culture and tradition would be necessary to know before undertaking a job in these types of countries.
♡ Does piercings and tattoo give a bad image to the person and company? Why do you think so?
From my perspective, piercings and tattoos are merely a permanent decoration for a human. As was mentioned, these decorations are not inherently bad. A tattoo or piercing can mean different things for whomever put it on their body; the intention of the person bearing one is usually not one that seeks to offend others around them.
Because of this, piercings and tattoos do not give a bad image to a person and their company. Firstly, a single person cannot be held responsible to be a representative of an entire company. Secondly, it is their choice to decorate their body however they would like as long as it harms no one else.
♡ Lastly we're moving on to social media. How do you think the image influencers portray in SNS can affect their followers?
Not many realize that what influencers post is not actually their entire reality. Almost all celebrities and influencers curate their posts to display only the positive parts of their life. While some realize this, others may not.
For example, photos that I post on my social media only showcase the final product of photoshoots. Most of my followers do not realize the hard work and time that gets put into a shoot because I do not show the process. They are only aware of the photos that come out.
I know that what happens in photos is not necessarily what happens in real life. There are countless YouTube videos and news articles about influencers that scammed their way into the internet fame, only to have their methods exposed.
It also depends on the demographic of an influencer’s followers. Some people may know that one person’s life cannot possibly be captured within a social media account. But, younger people may not know this. Social media can know be classified as a form of media that entertains and educates others. Because of this, younger people may derive knowledge or inspiration from influencers they find online. Little do they know that their favorite model or YouTuber’s life isn’t actually “sunshine and rainbows”.
♡ What would you advise to your followers about self-image and self-confidence?
There’s a lot of advice that I’d like to tell my followers. A lot of them are teen girls that struggle with low self-esteem. I think it’s important to know that everyone is beautiful in their own way and that everyone deals with confidence issues. As long as you love yourself, you don’t need anyone else’s validation or praise. It isn’t easy to love yourself; you definitely need to make a conscious decision to. But, if you surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, it’s definitely possible.
Having confidence in oneself is possible for everybody. Everyone has the right to find love within themselves.
♡ ♡ I want to thanks Yūn for giving me the oportunity to interview her ♡ ♡
To conclude this post I want to say that Yūn really knows about the importance of the personal image, even if she’s only 17, the fact that she’s modeling for other brands and has an influence on her followers, makes her recognise what is important to portray on SNS, her dailylife and how image affects on people’s perception.
She also talked about how we have to consider other cultures to understand their thoughts on personal image which is really important because not everyone thinks about informing themselves about it and end up being ignorants and disrespectful towards others.
Another point I want to bring up is that Yūn said that personal image is really important but that the good presence is subjetive. She’s right, not everyone have the same perception of people’s good presence because there’s many other points that comes to play when analizing someones good presence such as how they express themselves, if they are respectful or not… Great clothes and great hair doesn’t make someone have a good presence. Though, I gotta say that even if it´s up to you to choose your clothes, you should know that there are places and events that follow a protocol. In that case, people should respect that even though it´s not their style.
After this long but necessary post, I hope you understand better what self image and good presence and the importance of it on our dailylife and what actually means to other people like Yūn.
See you soon on my next post, my loves ♡

homesick for fictional philadelphia again, v. 37645 (i don’t proofread this kind of post so read it at your own risk)
bonnie’s so comforting for me to write because she is just so like, functional. she is so normal. should one take that with a grain of salt in shond/aland? yes. obviously. but. she’s not repressed. she’s not suicidal. she’s not one of those characters who is written in for obvious Drama Points (none of them are, i gotta say, though they’re pretty much all So Damn Traumatized). she isn’t there to Spread Awareness. she’s there because she empathizes with annalise and is able to use that empathy to help them both, like, professionally and personally. she’s a main character and she’s interesting as hell but her primary function is to fix things that are broken and to get shit done. she’s not there to be gawked at. she’s not on some big mission to stop child abuse and she’s not some like, prodigy teacher’s pet: she’s literally only a lawyer because annalise felt bad for her and because she works hard and knows how to swing situations to her advantage. she kind of hates lawyers. she doesn’t think that’s hypocritical because it doesn’t exclude herself or anybody else, really, on that level. she will love you and judge you at the same time. but it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a chance to make Real Money and not have to kill herself for it, and she’s no genius but she’s a smart girl. it was a way to live. her passions are mostly the people she cares about, but not in an especially loud way: she’s just there, feeling things. helping out. you can always, always depend on bonnie (assuming you mean anything to her). she loves to stay busy and she loves to be useful. she has a lot of realistic issues that are trauma/bpd-centered (whether or not they actually wanted to diagnose anybody) but her life doesn’t revolve around them, they’re just kind of... built-in roadblocks that she has to deal with. and that’s so like, raw and real in its own way. she feels like she could walk off the screen and be a completely developed, operational Actual Human Person. the show is constantly dealing with trauma but it’s not interested in making it look glamorous or linear or anything but what it is. it’s very [buffy vc] strong is fighting. it’s hard and it’s painful and it’s every day. it’s what we have to do. (and we can do it together!)
anyway. she is just some guy

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Review
*Spoiler Warning*
Holy shit. That was a damn good movie and a fine addition to Lucas Arts Disney’s Star Wars film series. Allow me to preface my review by saying that I have started writing this just a few short hours after watching the film but who knows when I’ll finish? I’ve digested it as much as I can and I’ve taken down notes of all the important things I wanted to talk about and now I believe I’m ready to start this review. That out of the way, here is my review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
So to start with this movie, I’d actually like to point out all the stuff that I did not enjoy first and then go to the positives. I don’t have much criticism so I wanted to get that out of my plate first. So here are the negatives.
Cons:
1.) The lack of compelling characters. This is probably my biggest gripe with the film. I was never able to fully invest in these characters emotionally. That’s not to say that these people have bad characterizations or that their dull. It’s just that they lack the emotional depth of other main characters before them. This is most likely because the movie itself doesn’t give them enough time to fully develop. Let’s take a look at some of these characters.
Felicity Jones plays the main protagonist, Jyn Erso. Jyn is the daughter of the former Imperial scientist and now kidnapped farmer Galen Erso (the mastermind of the Death Star) and her initial actions are motivated by the chance to meet her father again. Problem is I didn’t really care and that’s because the plot didn’t give enough time (or any time at all) to strengthen that father-daughter bond. That’s why when they finally meet each other again and Galen is killed, it unfortunately doesn’t evoke any emotion and it actually felt a bit flat. I really really wanted to care about her journey on being with her father again but I realized if I had to try so hard then the movie isn’t executing that aspect right. One of the main issues with Jyn is that her problems with the Rebellion aren’t explored enough. It’s just one of those aspects about her that’s mentioned in one or 2 scenes but not expanded upon in any sort of meaningful way. She reminded me a lot of Han Solo. Like Han in his initial scenes in A New Hope, Jyn is someone with a criminal background who does not side with anybody and only does things for her own benefit. That is until she becomes part of much bigger cause. This was an awesome aspect of her. However, even though she is bad ass (really bad ass by the way), she just lacks the charm of Han Solo and she doesn’t go through the same carefully handled character progression that Han goes through which is a huge shame.
And then there’s Cassian Andor played by Diego Luna. Now with Cassian, I liked his inner struggle a bit more. His problem was that he kept doing bad things for the Rebellion and that he felt as if these actions are not justified. This could have made for some really good character progression but it’s just that his inner problems were solved just as quickly as they were introduced. Again, if the film had highlighted this aspect of him more than it did then Cassian would be a better character overall.
Honestly, I would’ve given these issues a pass IF we would see more of these 2 in future films but seeing as how they died in the end (like I said, spoilers) then their characters’ potential growth is pretty much over and done with.
2.) The story is nothing to talk about. Or at least nothing really exciting to talk about. After watching this film, all I could really say about it was that it was about finding the plans to the Death Star. That particular aspect of the narrative is strong but nearly (key word) everything around it feels pretty flat. There was just not enough life or any of that “wow” moment in the story. Any scene where I’m supposed to show emotion just does not work. It’s never given any weight so sadly it’s never earned. For example:
In that scene where Jyn is listening to a holocommunicator message from her father and she starts breaking down. Yeah that scene. I didn’t really care, it didn’t emotionally affect me in any sort of way, it didn’t make me want to see her reunite with her father and I found that scene pretty manipulative. Before you say I’m some sort of insensitive asshole, I have genuinely cried in films before but for those emotional scenes that had a lot of build-up and where the emotional payoff was earned. Same can not be said for most of the “sad” scenes in this film. Yes, there were characters here who I did like (and even love) but I still didn’t care for their deaths and we’ll get to those characters in a little while.
3.) The first act of the film is choppy. This is more or less piggy-backing off of what I just said about the characters not being given enough time to develop. 30 minutes into the film and I felt like it was all over the place. Introduce a character, skip, introduce another character, skip, sprinkles of exposition here, skip, introduce another character, and skip. There was a lack of focus that hurts the pacing. With issues #1 and #2 mixing together, I found myself asking “Are we supposed to give a shit?” a bunch of times at least in the preceding half. Thankfully, the focus is finally set and established by the latter part of the 2nd act and nearly, if not all of the 3rd act. Which bring us to the positives.
Pros:
1.) Now, going into a Star Wars film means that I had certain expectations. After watching the great Force Awakens, there was a certain magic that I was looking for that’s very hard to explain. What I will say is this: Rogue One offers the same kind of magic but presented differently. What I mean by that it has a darker and rougher tone than previous films. Probably the darkest that it has ever been. There was an image in the beginning that I’ll never forget that I wish I could show. I hope my description can suffice. The main character, Jyn, was being escorted (to prison, most likely) and the Stormtroopers escorting her had dirty armor. If memory serves me correctly, I don’t remember any Clone trooper or Stormtrooper from the originals, prequels, and even Force Awakens look so untidy. They’re usually in mint condition even during battle. But in here, they look like they’ve been through a lot of shit and are just tired. This was an image that showed me that this is going to be a Star Wars film with a dash of grit and for this film, it worked overall. The best part of the story is how the Rebellion/Republic aren’t presented as the heroic bunch of do-gooders that have an unwavering sense of morality. No no no in here they are willing to get their hands dirty and kill people who may not even deserve it. The character of Forest Whitaker, Saw Gerrera (Nice job in tying in this story with Rebels), represents what a radical extremist in the side of the Republic looks like. He’s not necessarily a good person. In fact, the people Jyn associates with aren’t clean cut themselves. They just happen to be a side that’s the lesser of two evils.
2.) Speaking of the other evil, the Empire subplot that focused on the tension between main villain the Orson Krennic (who is a solid bad guy) and the CGI-laden Moff Tarkin (we’ll get to the CGI eventually) was pretty cool. The confrontations between the two men of the Empire were honestly some of the best scenes and it made me care about the villain a bit more. Yeah, Orson is an asshole who throws hissy fits and unfairly kills scientists who did nothing wrong and but seeing him be bullied and taken out by an even bigger asshole - who also takes Krennic’s credit - made me root for him a little bit (at least against Tarkin). Oh and that final scene where Krennic looked at the Death Star as it was about to obliterate the planet along with him was marvelous.
3.) That brings me to my next positive point: The action-packed and thrilling third act of the film. There really is not much to say here except that it’s where shit hits the fan and the glorious blasting and dogfighting begins. The action sequences in these final minutes are so well-done. The rebel wings taking out the 2 Star Destroyers was a thing of beauty and the Darth Vader fight scene (if you can even call it a fight because it was extremely one-sided) was just plain bad-ass. One tiny negative I can point out is the continuity issue with the AT-T walkers. I thought Empire Strikes Back has taught us that tying them up was the only way of taking them down. I first thought that maybe the Empire upgraded their AT-T walkers because of how they were taken out in this battle BUT I remembered since everyone was destroyed by the Death Star, who’d be alive to tell them about the walker weakness? Just a small gripe in an otherwise massive positive.
4.) Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe and Aland Tudyk as the voice of K2SO. These two were the highlights of the supporting cast. Yen provides his usual martial-arts badassery as the blind but force-sensitive monk. In fact, his character adds more to the idea of the “Force”. It’s honestly refreshing to see (no pun intended) that this intangible power is present even with someone without the ability to see. This means that there is much more to learn and hopefully, Chirrut Imwe marks the beginning of more characters like him to appear in future movies. Maybe we’ll get a character with no arms at all and yet, still can kick ass just with his/her mastery of the Force. That would be a little silly at first but I believe it will work.
Tudyk delivers a sarcastic brand of comedy that adds layers to droid characters. Although his jokes can sometimes be unnecessary, when they do hit, they hit hard. What I loved most about his character is that he really didn’t have that much character development. Now, I know development is important but the reason I didn’t need it from K2SO is that he is basically an expendable, comedy-relief character. Besides, because Jyn didn’t go through much character progression herself, I’d find it improbable for K2SO to become completely open and warm to her so his ongoing mild surliness was appropriate and consistently entertaining.
5.) The fan service. Now there’s not a whole lot of fan service here like in the Force Awakens but there are just enough to put a smile on anyone’s face if they get the references. Some of them may have felt more forced than others (*cough* R2-D2 and C-3PO *cough*) but at the end of the day, I’d rather have them in than not at all. My personal favorite reference was seeing Cornelius Evazan and his buddy again. For those who don’t remember him, he’s the dude who has the death sentence in 12 systems. It was just awesome seeing him and his deformed face again and with his arm still intact. The biggest fan service here is arguably seeing Darth Vader and his daughter, Princess Leia, again. Speaking of which.
5.) I was a bit iffy about the CGI in this film. Particularly Moff and Leia but after thinking about it and after looking at their digitized selves again, I honestly didn’t mind it. It’s nowhere near as bad as the work done on Han’s head when Greedo shot first and it’s much better than I had initially expected. I honestly didn’t care if it was CGI, it was nice seeing Princess Leia again.
Ok, this part’s gonna get a bit serious. There was something a bit poetic about all this. About me watching this film on the precise day that I did. I had seen Rogue One just a few days after Carrie Fisher’s death (God rest her soul) and seeing Princess Leia at the time of watching meant much more than ever. When I saw her, it hit me and it really dawned on me that she was gone. She was a huge part of my childhood because I had the biggest crush on her when I first watched her in “A New Hope”. There was just an air of magnetism in her eyes and in her voice that attracted me. Not only that, she was really the first badass heroine that I had ever seen in movies. She was a strong woman who spoke to and for generations and for that, I’ll miss her badly. Damn, can you imagine how people will feel watching her in Episode 8?
Overall, Rogue One is a strong entry in the Star Wars mythos. Solid performance from the cast even if the film doesn’t have the engaging characters like a Luke, Han, Leia, Rey, or Finn. It falters somewhat in the beginning but quickly picks itself up and goes all out in most of the 2nd act and in the entirety of the 3rd. While it may lack some of the personality and magic of previous films, it has its own unique depth by adding some grit to its more grounded tone.

Short attention span, digital natives, browsers-not-buyers, multi-taskers and socially conscious – these are just a few of the characteristics that people associate with millennials. This generation, which has overtaken baby boomers as the largest generation, is moving into their prime spending and working years; hence, marketing to millennials should be an important consideration for your business.
Here are our 28 ideas on how to effectively tap millennials.
Channels and Tools Marketers Should Use To Reach Millennials
1. Utilize Google advertising.
Marc Prosser, Fit Small Business
Ask any millennial where they would go to search for something on the internet, and you’re likely to get a simple answer: “I’d Google it.” Don’t waste the opportunity to make sure that your business is one of the first results they see! Click here to read our full guide about advertising on Google–we’ll even tell you how to get $200 in free advertising!
2. Retarget millennials on Facebook.
Maggie Aland, Fit Small Business
Retargeting ads have been shown to result in anything from double to four times the click-through rate of a regular display ad.
Retargeting ads “stalk” consumers with advertisements on Facebook for products or services they’ve viewed recently. If you’ve already looked at a product, you’re probably interested in it. That makes you a warm lead, and much more likely to convert than someone who’s never been to the site before.
Learn how to set up a retargeting campaign on Facebook with our in-depth guide.
3. Explore using new and trending social media tools and channels.
Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC)
As soon as a new social network or platform becomes popular with millennials, it’s important to consider adding it to your marketing strategy – but carefully study first if the channel or tool fits your business and message. Using trending social media tools positions you as an early adopter and innovator. Stay on top of new platforms via tech or media blogs, and don’t hesitate to experiment when you join a new site.
4. Rock your mobile marketing.
Sujan Patel, Co-founder, ContentMarketer.io
Marketing through mobile devices is important in general, but given that 85% of millennials in the U.S. own smartphones, it’s essential when you’re targeting this generation.
To excel at mobile marketing, first, consider the basics. Are your landing pages optimized for mobile? Are they too graphics-intensive, making load times longer with slower connections? Is your call to action clear, even on a smaller screen?
Finding ways to integrate your advertising natively into popular mobile applications and programs, especially if it’s styled as a reward, is a great way to reach millennials.
5. Listen, learn and speak their language.
Rustin Nethercott, Content Developer, ConstantContact
The biggest mistake you can make when marketing to millennials is forgetting to listen to them. Hear what they’re saying and how they’re saying it.
Follow them on social media to become familiar with their patterns and the causes that matter to them. However, do not attempt to pander using slang or gimmicks like emojis unless you’re able to make it feel completely natural. 9 times out of 10 this feels painfully contrived, and the company ends up looking like a parent trying to act hip to relate to their teenage kid.
6. Optimize content to increase the chance that people will share.
Emerson Spartz, CEO, Dose
Focus your marketing spend on reaching millennials via social platforms. These drive the most significant traffic back to brands and publishers. Optimizing the content is also key. We see the highest shares on short, captioned videos that nail the first ten seconds of content to hook the viewer. Keep it brief and don’t assume millennials are waiting around to watch long videos with the sound on.
7. Ride on trending topics.
SEO Pressor
Pay attention to what’s currently trending and jump on the bandwagon as soon as you can.
By creating social media posts and advertisements subtly referencing the subject, you’ll have a casual and fun way of advertising your products that will appeal to millennials.
Nail your advertising to sync with trending topics and you just might have a chance to go viral. Of course, timing is crucial and you need to get it right. You won’t look as cool if the ad you roll out is a week too late or you are using the references in the wrong context.
8. Give them meaningful videos to share.
Jennifer Schiff, President, Schiff & Schiff Communications
Millennials relate to product videos that tell stories of how other shoppers used products in real life. Millennials are 1.5 times more likely to watch videos while shopping online before they decide if a product is a good buy. About a third buys products directly as a result of watching product videos.
Millennials are also more interested in consumer-made how-to videos than overly stylized brand videos. So be proactive and add this content to your product detail pages to inspire purchases and make the experience more realistic.
9. Go live on Facebook.
George Beall, University of Pennsylvania
Facebook Live is quickly becoming a more and more popular option for brands to broadcast their message. More importantly, it is a great way to reach an engaged audience. There is something special about going live that creates a more genuine medium for you to communicate with your audience. It’s also early in the live streaming game, so investing in this channel early can pay off.
10. Get creative with your visuals.
Olivia Adams, Brand Manager, Come Recommended
Don’t hesitate to use creative visuals such as infographics, videos, and photos to grab the attention of Millennials. It’s proven that 40% of people respond better to visuals than plain text alone. In addition, 71% of people feel better about a brand that incorporates visuals into their content.
11. Sell using GIFs.
William Harris, CEO & Growth Marketer, Elumynt, LLC
Visuals are hugely important selling tools when interacting with the millennial audience. In addition to video stories and rich photography, GIFs are another type of visual that you should be incorporating into your e-commerce marketing strategy. GIFs are simple, animated files that can be incorporated into emails, Facebook posts, product pages, landing pages, and more.
GIFs are mostly used by millennials as funny memes and pop culture references, but more and more savvy businesses are starting to recognize their value and use them to present products in a format that is both familiar and entertaining to millennials.
12. They like being able to interact with brands.
Cassi Manner, Marketing Manager, Pretty Girl Makeup
Millennials are all about two-way communication via social media. I like to do call to action campaigns in which social media users, particularly Instagram, must re-post a photo, tag friends, or comment their favorite tip or trick in order to be entered to win some prize.
Millennials also enjoy social media posts that bring some benefit to the table, whether it be a how-to or do’s and don’ts of a certain activity. Basically, anything that engages the users and puts them in communication with the brand helps build a relationship and promote sales and growth.
What Millennials Look For in a Brand
13. Millennials want mobile-friendly websites.
Jeremy Marsan, Fit Small Business
More people are now searching for businesses on their phones over desktops, so make sure that your website is optimized for mobile. This doesn’t just mean that your website looks ok when someone pulls it up on a mobile device. Make sure that your mobile site has larger fonts, clearer call to action buttons and a simple checkout process. The phone screen is much smaller than a computer, so make sure you are maximizing the little space you have, and making it easy for people to find the information you want them to on your site.
14. They like fast solutions from brands.
Jayson DeMers, Founder & CEO, AudienceBloom
Are millennials impatient? Do they tend to favor instant gratification, or do they make more impulsive decisions? The jury is still out on these qualities, but one thing’s for sure: millennials have ubiquitous access to technology, and they know how to find information. And because they’re often on mobile devices, looking for answers to immediately pressing problems, they want their content quickly. If you want to be their go-to brand, serving their content needs and earning their loyalty, you need to present them with fast, thorough information and solutions.
15. Coupons and discounts excite them.
Christina Baldassarre, Founder, Zebra Advertisement
66% percent of millennials follow a company or brand on Twitter with the sole purpose of getting a coupon or discount. Something that millennials have mastered is the way to cut costs in this economically-driven time. That’s why this group is most likely to share their location on their mobile devices in order to receive coupons from businesses that are close by. Chances are if you advertise a sale or give out free shipping coupons, the clientele will follow your social media accounts.
16. Validate your brand with online reviews.
Aleh Barysevich, Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Link-Assistant.Com
Millennials are native researchers when it comes to shopping – 80%, for example, wouldn’t buy a hairspray without reading 10 reviews online before choosing the one for them. To make sure every step of customer’s research leads to the ultimate goal – purchase – brands should demonstrate their trustworthiness and expertise. You can do this by taking care of your online reviews and encouraging customers to share their experience with your brand online.
You can also use a reputation management software, such as ReviewTrackers, to help you get reviews from your current customers and monitor existing reviews from over 75 different review sites.
17. Appeal to their FOMO nature.
Wendy Lewis, President, Wendy Lewis & CO Ltd
Millennials are all about FOMO (fear of missing out). Offer them a unique experience, event, or special offering, to tap into their drive for being involved and staying in the loop. Sharing a sneak peek of something that’s trending, temporary and timely works for them. Of course, Snapchat and Instagram are the platforms of choice for the under-35 set and are good choices for promotions and to generate buzz for your brand.
Read our guide to Instagram advertising to learn more about how to reach millennials using the social media platform.
18. Don’t be too salesy.
AJ Agrawal, Forbes
The hard sell has become something of a piece of satire in the eyes of millennials. They don’t respond to the salesperson following them around screaming about how great their products are. The hard sell is gone and you need to let millennials make buying decisions for themselves.
Millennials value authenticity over everything else. They’re more likely to listen to a fellow consumer, as opposed to a piece of promotional copy.
19. They support brands that do social good.
Kevin Donnelly, Content Creator, Shopify
Millennials are a socially conscious generation with a strong desire to make a difference in the world. They’ve started turning to businesses to help them make a bigger impact. Worldwide, 69% of millennials want businesses to better facilitate customers getting involved in social issues which is a huge opportunity for businesses to start stepping in and helping out.
20. Market through their friends and influencers.
Lauren Friedman, Head of Global Social Business Enablement, Adobe
The fact is, people trust people. And people buy from people, not brands. One of the easiest ways to connect with the millennial crowd is to entice one of their peers to represent your product or service. Influencers have so much power when it comes to marketing products. Whether they like something or not directly influences a consumer’s decision to purchase. Speak to your consumers not through your brand but through their friends with trusted recommendations.
21. Appeal to their emotions.
Dana Mia Kim, Sleeknote
Emotion is one of the ruling factors for millennial’s engagement tendencies. Make them laugh, make them cry, give them something that will have an impact on their beliefs and their world.
A good example is Dove’s “Choose Beautiful” campaign – the video of the campaign became a viral hit after people watched women make a choice between whether they are “Average” or “Beautiful.” Tons of people shared the video to express their opinions on the impact and significance of the campaign on women empowerment.
22. Let them be your star.
Colie Edison, VP of Marketing, Bowlmor AMF
We know this group of consumers likes to see themselves in the media they consume and we take that insight quite literally, focusing on user-generated content to help tell our brand story. On Instagram, our guests use our brand hashtag #strikeitup to submit images and videos of themselves in our bowling alleys, for a chance to win gift cards in our ongoing consumer promotion. We are then able to feature these assets in all of our marketing channels. When your consumer can relate to your content in an authentic way — in this case, an honest look into the brand experience — your brand message goes a lot farther.
23. They want to buy purpose, not products.
Michelle Jaelin, Marketing & Media Expert, Nutritionartist.com.
During a time when there is information saturation, providing a product or service that has a good cause or helps the world in some way is more attractive to millennials. From my experience, millennials are more open to supporting products or services that care for a cause or benefit humanity in some way. Whether it is tech, health, food security or international development – companies that show transparency and show benefit to the world in a positive way are more likely to tap into the millennial market.
Samples of Successful Campaigns Targeted to Millennials
24. Carlsberg Beer Body Ready.
Nikki Gilliland, Writer, Econsultancy
With humor at the core of all its advertising, Carlsberg has found recent success with campaigns targeted to millennials by coming up with content that is relatable, witty and shareable on social media.
Jumping on the fury caused by the ‘Are You Beach Body Ready’ campaign that was launched by a weight loss company, it cleverly placed ads asking train commuters if they were ‘Beer Body Ready’ – highlighting that consumers don’t need to look a certain physical way to enjoy summer.
The combination of timely relevance and relatable humor made it one of the most inspired campaigns of the past few years.
25. Make it personal like Coca-Cola.
Mindy Weinstein, Founder & President, Market MindShift
If you really want to win millennials over, use their names. Coca-Cola utilized this approach in a powerful way with its “Share a Coke” campaign. What better way to increase sales than to make bottles personalized to customers? According to The Wall Street Journal, Coca-Cola’s soft-drinks sales in the U.S. went up 2% after launching this campaign. The campaign put 250 of the most popular names among teens and millennials on 20-ounce bottles.
The result? A customized and personal product, as well as share-worthy content. Coca-Cola even created a website wrapped around this campaign that lets customers discover facts about their names, order customized bottles, and find out event dates for the Share a Coke tour.
26. Effective use of a credible influencer in Under Armour’s ‘Rule Yourself’ campaign.
Kit Smith, Marketing Expert
This ad focuses on its star rather than the brand. That’s easily done when you have Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time.
It’s beautifully shot, with only occasional flashes of the Under Armour logo as Phelps trains. It highlights the hard work and determination needed to be successful, with the implication being that if Under Armour is good enough for someone that puts this much effort into their training, it’s probably good enough for you.
However, it is important to note that influencers don’t always have to be celebrities and Olympic stars, you should be able to find influencers in your niche who come with a less expensive price tag.
27. Tackle opposing beliefs like Heineken’s ‘Social Experiment’
Alexandra Jardine, Creativity Online
Heineken brings together strangers with directly opposing beliefs and points of view and gets them to build a bar together in a “social experiment” designed to overcome barriers in an overly polarized world.
A recent Heineken video ad features a three-pair team up a climate-change denier with an environmental activist, a transgender woman and a right-wing guy who thinks it’s “wrong,” a feminist and an anti-feminist. They’re challenged with assembling some flat pack furniture and then a bar, as well as discussing each other’s personalities (but not beliefs specifically).
It’s only after they’ve worked together are they shown a film of the other person discussing their beliefs. They are then given the choice either to walk away or sit down and have a beer with the other person. Their reactions and expressions seem authentic — and in a world where we’re told we’re all existing in social media echo chambers, the video shows the power of actually connecting with people in person as opposed to trolling them online.
28. Give them a chance to pay it forward like Toms.
Colleen Irish, Sr. Account Director, Tier One PR
Toms and Target teamed up one holiday season to offer a limited-edition holiday collection of Toms’ shoes, Toms for Target, hoping to leverage Toms’ popular “One for One” campaign with Target’s limited-edition expertise. With the holiday campaign, Toms and Target go the extra mile with additional items priced under $50; and each purchase triggers a donation, including meals and blankets, in addition to shoes.
The Toms footwear brand does an excellent job of marketing to millennials by appealing to the generation’s social consciousness and desire to make a difference. Toms’ business model is based on giving back: with each purchase of shoes, an additional pair is donated to those in need. Kudos to these brands for recognizing an opportunity to make a good idea even better by joining forces and aligning missions in a focused way.

USA: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jazz Club of Sarasota announces "World of Jazz" for 38th Sarasota Jazz Festival, March 7-10, 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 2018 Contacts: Jo Morello, 941.587.8290; Carline Ash, 941.366.1552 (Wed.-Fri., 9-5) Musician interviews & photos available. Click HERE for the Sarasota Jazz Festival website with short soundtracks and detailed event schedule. SARASOTA, FL: Jazz, the uniquely American musical art form, was born in New Orleans in the early 20th century and nurtured on a lively diet of music from around the world--the blues of the American South, rhythms from Africa and the Caribbean, classical music from Europe and France, and more. It’s entirely fitting, then, that the Jazz Club of Sarasota--one of the most active jazz societies in the nation--will present “A World of Jazz” for its 38th Annual Sarasota Jazz Festival. The four-day event, from March 7-10, 2018, will feature 14 musicians from seven nations in four concerts, over a dozen locally based musicians for a Pub Crawl by Trolley, and the French art film Django. In addition, at one of the concerts the Club will present its highest honor, the Satchmo Award, to a musician for “unique and enduring contribution to the living history of jazz.” Festival activities will be presented in various Sarasota venues including Marriott’s new Art Ovation Hotel, downtown Sarasota night clubs and Burns Court Cinema. Live jazz will fill the lobby before each concert, and four special VIP receptions—for those who purchase VIP ticket packages--will add to the luster of this star-studded festival. “We’re pleased to recognize the global impact of jazz, and we’re especially honored that the celebrated Ken Peplowski, one of our audience favorites, is the festival’s music director,” said Peg Pluto, Jazz Club president. “We’re also delighted that our vice president, Ed Linehan, is managing director for the festival. Ken and Ed have both worked with our festivals before so we know we’re in good hands. “In keeping with our theme, Ken will present the world of jazz as interpreted by internationally respected musicians and fast-rising young stars from around the world,” Pluto said. “Many of them have never played together before, and they may never share the same stage again. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event.” Acclaimed reedman Peplowski, based in New York, will both direct the international cadre and frequently join them on stage. “These accomplished performers will play the universal language of jazz, an American language that everyone now speaks,” he said. “They’ll draw on musical influences from their homeland countries—Brazil, Denmark, Israel, Italy, Japan, Sweden and the United States—to present the exciting sound of what jazz has become today.” Ken has designed a playbook of two sets for every concert, each with a different mix of performers. “We’ll present unique combinations of musicians for every set with a fresh sound for each segment,” he said. He’ll also add another treat: “After each concert, we’ll bring back all of the evening’s musicians for an All-Star jam session number or two—an improvised finale that takes us right into the very essence of jazz.” Peplowski has been highly praised and frequently honored. “Ken Peplowski is arguably the greatest living jazz clarinetist,” said Russell Davies of BBC2. Will Friedwald (The Wall Street Journal) wrote, “Mr. Peplowski sounds the way (Benny) Goodman might if he had kept evolving … polishing his craft . . . into the 21st century.” Among other credits, Ken has been a featured performer at practically every significant jazz festival, was music director of the Oregon Festival of American Music for eight years, has backed dozens of major performers, and has recorded some 50 CDs as a soloist and nearly 500 more as a sideman. He has also been a frequent performer for the Jazz Club of Sarasota, often with Dick Hyman, and in 2014 received the Club’s highest honor, its Satchmo Award, for his “unique and enduring contribution to the living history of jazz.” (Other Jazz Club Satchmo winners since 1990 have included Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Gerry Mulligan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dick Hyman, Branford Marsalis and Family, Four Freshmen, Bucky and John Pizzarelli, and Wycliffe Gordon.) In addition to Peplowski, several other musicians will make encore appearances with the Jazz Club of Sarasota. These include Houston Person, saxophone; Diego Figueiredo, guitar; and Jeff Hamilton, drums. The festival’s house band is the Scandinavian Jazztrio:
Writer/musician/composer Kristian Leth (Denmark), drums; a Danish Academy Award-nominated film composer and Grammy-winning recording artist who has written, performed and produced scores for TV series, films and commercials.
Hans Backenroth (Sweden), bass; acclaimed as “one of the best bass players Sweden has developed—ever!” (Arne Domnérus, Swedish jazz legend).
Ole Kock Hansen (Denmark), piano; “one of the most significant artists in modern Danish Jazz” (Wikipedia).
“Some of our festival musicians currently reside in the United States as well as abroad. We’ve hand-picked performers who beautifully understand and represent the musical influences they bring from their countries of origin,” Peplowski said. In addition to the Scandinavian Jazztrio, festival musicians (in alphabetical order) are:
Ehud Asherie, piano, Israel; “a master of swing and stride” (New Yorker); a jazz pianist who integrates the New York piano tradition with his inventive style.
Graham Dechter, guitar, U. S.; honored in the DownBeat Critics Poll as "Rising Star Guitar" (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017).
Sinne Eeg, vocalist, Denmark; considered the preeminent jazz vocalist in Scandinavia.
Diego Figueiredo, guitar, Brazil; a fast-rising star among the world's greatest jazz guitarists; plays with an infectious, joyful feeling.
Jimmy Greene, saxophone, U.S.; GRAMMY® Award-nominated saxophonist, composer, and arranger.
