i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you

#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what #allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of #the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than #to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do #im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt #take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was #mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their #mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that #explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain #direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in #arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to #engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out #theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive #a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked #picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing #sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example #for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war #is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old #wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for #steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with #especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can #look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never #treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time #but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made #feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them #accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me #yapping #diary

I don't have a lot of time right now, however, I remember reading Karen (@hoboblaidd) talking about whether Solas would have killed the Inquisitior if it meant achieving his goals (you can read it over here) and the question I have posed myself since is whether Asharen would have done the same if it came down to, if she could have killed Solas if it meant stopping the veil from falling.

And honestly? I think so? It would have been likely a fight, flight and freeze type of decision. A reaction than necessarily an action. It would have changed her. Broken her even to do it. It would be undeniable that she would be unrecognisable because of it :)

christian knows jack is autistic but never let him get diagnosed because 1. he's ableist and 2. autistic people aren't allowed to to enter any medical field. yes, you read that right. yes, still to this day

#christian went one further and never let jack know. because of the Shame. and denial. and disgust #lost headcanons #and its educational #there are autistic people in medical and mental health fields! they're undiagnosed #i had a team of people assessing me when i got diagnosed #neurologists and psychologists #three of 'em were autistic. one was neurotypical #you could tell the neurotypical one because she was the one who didn't speak directly to me at any point. she only spoke to my mum #the other three. the autistic ones. treated me like. a human being #anyways my mum was/is autistic. but she never got diagnosed #because officially she was my carer. and if she got diagnosed she would have lost that title #and therefore lost her carers allowance :/#its fucked up isnt it? personally i think the medical field could do with more autistic people #i mean it already HAS but i mean. more. and people who can open about it without losing their damn jobs

Do I take the risk of ordering groceries delivered after what happened last time, keeping in mind that I paid a not insignificant amount of money for a membership to this grocery store specifically for the benefit of having groceries delivered, or do I put on pants and shoes and pull my hair up and find a jacket and get out my cart and drag myself all the way over to the grocery store, where I will be tired and hungry and probably buy a ton of random crap I don't need just because it's there

#i suppose if they cancel my order randomly again i can always go to the grocery store myself tomorrow #i will not be renewing my membership <3 #and i will never ever be using instacart they cant do ANYTHING #when instacart first entered my awareness they kept running this ad on my pandora stations #where they were talking about how they could handle all sorts of diets #vegan lactose free gluten free you name it! instacart has you covered!#spoiler alert instacart does not have you covered #because shortly after this started i ordered from this grocery store for the first time and it went through instacart #and i had some almond milk on the order #which like #hmmmmmm #lets think about possible reasons why i maybe put ALMOND milk on the order #and the shopper swapped it out for whole milk without even notifying me #not oat milk or soy milk or lactose free milk #whole milk #well that hasnt happened since so my suspicion is that that was just a personal problem with that guy #possibly one of those people who gives people who ordered diet coke regular coke at restaurants #because i KNOW the store wasnt out of almond milk #but well trust destroyed #if i had an actual allergy i would never allow instacart anywhere near my groceries again #lactose intolerance is really more of an inconvenience for me #anyway #its really windy out so i think i will order groceries #speaking of milk i should go see if mine is still good

Ok but this is incorrect bc the depths of her depravity come through in who she is or isn’t targeting. They didn’t TARGET civilians but they saw the deaths and injuries of civilians as a necessary sacrifice if they gave a fuck at all; and that’s important! This is like. One of my issues with arcane where zaunites don’t get the same care put into them as piltover does. Like when piltover is impacted by smth it’s still shots of hurt children and close ups of them crying and running and even background enforcers get set ups (like the pacifist shit or whatever) that pay off in some way but the same is never done for background zaunites unless they’re born to die to make a main character sad. even those like the firelights that should matter to the plot more by nature of it being a class struggle and even above shit about the choices ppl make. It’s not enough that she’s just framed as bad so the details don’t matter; they do matter bc it’s showing just how far they went. For a show that put effort into showing the sound of someone licking their lips and accurately using a made up language from a stupid game; I think whether civilians got caught in the crossfire or not DOES matter and the opening sequence where she uses the gas where they say “the people of zaun deserve to breath” as she’s depriving them of that say otherwise. Like media literacy 101 is not saying death and pain is meaningless actually

so many young women recently desiring to be stay at home mothers….the ironic part of it is that all of those women that do become stay at home moms will one day understand why the women before them fought so hard for them to not have to fulfill that role at the point at which they realize that their personhood has been entirely sacrificed in the name of motherhood & there is no going back on that. all women who are stay at home moms are forced to put themselves aside to take care of their children and husband & are forced to make that their entire identity & that is exhausting and dehumanizing. that is how betty friedan started second wave feminism w the feminine mystique. bc women finally realized that all women hated being housewives & there wasn’t smth wrong w each of them individually as they had all believed. but those that do not learn history etc etc……

The idea that a god-like character with (supposedly) unlimited powers should snap their fingers at the end of a TV series and remove all pain and terrible things in the world so humans no longer had any suffering is the most BAFFLING thing I have ever heard. WHY DID THE SHOW EVER EXIST IF FIXING THINGS WAS THAT EASY??????

#It seems like this 'gotcha' card that overrides any argument someone could have #but it's actually the laziest zero thought behind it belief I have ever seen #And it complete ignores the function and structure of a story #Holy shit #Like... that's literally Adam and Eve before Eve ate the apple #That kind of utopia is literally in the Bible and in general is considered bad #It was certainly painted as bad in the show! Because Eve gave us free will and choice and the opportunity to self-determine who we are #And that's good! That's considered better than the Garden of Eden!#And yes choices have led to the godawful structures in place on Earth today and all the godawful death and suffering that goes with it #BUT THIS STUPID LITTLE TV SHOW ABOUT THE DEVIL WASN'T SPEAKING ABOUT ALL THE EVILS IN THE WORLD!!!#It was talking about how you always have a choice to do better! That everyone can be redeemed!#It's a much MUCH narrower scope because that's what story does! It picks one thing and speaks to it #And sometimes that thing is indeed Wow modern capitalism has completely fucked the world like The Good Place showed #But even The Good Place didn't use the Judge to snap her fingers and change Earth #She could have! She certainly had the power too!#But no instead they argued against wiping out the entire Earth and starting over in favor of revamping the afterlife instead #to allow people a second chance and support to do better #Which is EXACTLY where Lucifer ended up too with the titular character playing therapist in Hell #That is a strong ending! That is a hopeful ending! Because it's speaking to the audience as individuals and saying you have a choice #You always have a choice to do better. No mistake you make is too irredeemable so don't let yourself drown guilt #because guilt fixes nothing. Only your choice to try again can change things #God snapping their fingers and rewriting Earth is not a hopeful; realistic; or satisfying ending to a 6 season show about free will!#It makes no sense!#like jfc I don't want to drag one singular person through the mud but their opinions are just so mind-boggingly to me #It's like beating my head against the wall
