đČ àčàŁ àŁȘ Ëđ my youth is free: to a fresh start
warning(s); written with a word count of 2,018
it didnât matter if you knew donghyun for 6 years or dated him for 5. he always managed to give you butterflies, every single time. whether or not the butterflies youâre feeling now are good ones or just your breakfast threatening to spit back up, youâre not sure. you rounded the corner, taking a deep breath and counting to 10, before entering the cafe that used to be donghyunâs favorite casual date spot. or, maybe it still is his favorite spot. you shouldnât speculate. clear heart, open mind.
you looked around and saw donghyun sitting in the center, right by the large fish tank that the cafe had as a divider. crazy how he always managed to get the most coveted spot in this large cafe.
his gaze followed one of the whiptail catfishes moving towards your direction. you guess that you caught the corner of his eyes because he straightened up and gave you a small wave.
oh crap. this is really happening. one foot over the other, y/n. breathe in, breathe out. itâs just donghyun. you know him. youâve loved him for the past 5 years. youâve been best friends for 6 years. heâs not going to suddenly turn into a stranger.
as you got closer, you took note of his glowy skin and warm eyes. good. heâs okay. well, i guess he would be okay. he broke up with you. are you okay? youâd like to think so. these past months werenât all good. during the first month, you really did cry on your brotherâs shoulder every night. woonhak was so patient with you, being so mature and wise. he even acted girly pop for you, so you could act like youâre venting to one of your girl friends who had grown frustrated with the topic.
but, little by little, you were able to face the day with a new appreciation. you attributed a lot of it to jaehyun and dongmin. their energy was infectious on and off the court. even without knowing about your recent breakup, they managed to be considerate of you and didnât take offense when you shied away from them at times. on days where pick-up wasnât in the cards for you, theyâd understand and, sometimes, even offer to just hang out. it made you feel loved, despite them not saying it.
if the volleybrawlers (the nameâs growing on you, you think) pulled you out of your sadness, youâd say dongmin gave you that final push towards normalcy. it wasnât anything major, really. on the nights you found yourselves alone, your conversations would venture towards your past relationships and how they affected you. you found a lot of comfort from it. woonhak, for all that he tried, had never been in a relationship and couldnât relate to you. but dongmin surprised you. he was more open than you thought heâd be. he listened to you intently when youâd ramble on about how you felt lost when donghyun broke up with you, reassuring you that you werenât getting annoying by bringing it up all the time. as nights went on, the conversations changed. they moved away from relationships and settled on yourselves, your hobbies and aspirations.
you realized it one dayâinstead of venting, you were learning and sharing. it caught you by surprise, but it was nonetheless pleasant and satisfying. you were okay and you were getting better. the thought made you smile a little.
âwhereâd you go?â
your focus sharpened to donghyunâs curious face. âyou got that faraway look you get when youâre thinking really hard,â he smiled, stirring his coffee. âi always wished i could follow you into your mind whenever you got those looks. your mind seems so cool to be in.â
as you raised an eyebrow, the ends of your lips twitched, wanting so desperately to smile at his dopey face. âyouâre one to talk. i used to think you held the universe in your head with how spacy you were.â
âspacy? i donât get it.â donghyunâs round eyes twinkled when he chuckled. âi never really got a lot of things about you, if iâm honest.â
âwhat do you mean?â you asked, ignoring the dull pang in your heart.
donghyun must still be able to read your microexpressions because he immediately looked apologetic. âoh, not in a bad way! sorry, iâm justââ he nervously laughed and ran his hand through his blond hair, exhaling. âa lot of my love for you stemmed from not understanding you. itâs like you defined coexistence for me. does that make sense? hold on, let me think.â
you stared at him as he tried to collect his thoughts, following his eyes to the lively fish tank next to you guys. âmmm, the best way i can explain it... you know how scientists havenât even discovered 5% of the mariana trench?â he paused, glancing at you to make sure he wasnât being confusing. you nodded, signaling him to continue. âbut they stick to it because theyâre fascinated by the little things theyâre discovering. theyâre not even concerned that, most likely, they wonât get to experience the mariana trenchâs entirety in their lifetime. they just keep going, falling in love with everything they do get to experience... thatâs what you wereâare to me, my very own mariana trenchâsomeone that i was going to keep exploring and falling in love with well after my death.â
a shine had taken to donghyunâs eyes when he rested them on you. you could feel tears blanketing your own eyes. you opened your mouth to speak, but words failed youâor, rather, you failed to even have words. what can you even say to that?
donghyun took a moment to blink back his tears before continuing. âbut i got scared. school was getting a lot harder and, after my internship, i knew our relationship was starting to fall apart. it was unchartered territory for me. our entire relationship had been so free and easy up until that point. misunderstandings virtually stopped existing after our first year. you got me and i got you. so when our communication started faltering, i didnât know what to do. as much as i wanted to do more for you and love us back to life, i couldnât do it without sacrificing my plans and mental health. and⊠thatâs when i knew i had to let you go. i wasnât going to be the boyfriend you deserved while i knew youâd put in your 200% just to save us. that wasnât something i could live with, y/n.â
you shut your eyes and let the tears fall. you took quiet, shallow breaths to avoid attracting too much attention. unfortunately, eyes were inevitable considering you guys were sitting next to the cafeâs centerpiece. ruffling reached your ears. âhere.â
your eyes fluttered open to see donghyun offering a pack of tissues. you reached out to take one when you noticed the design. it pained you all over again. it was one of the gifts you got him for your 5th anniversaryâa specially designed tissue pack with your shared fish on it. you joked that, since you tend to cry a lot and donghyun always seemed to be scrambling to find tissues, he should have these on hand. you couldnât believe he still carried them.
you wiped your tears away before taking a deep inhale. âi really donât know what to say,â you said through a watery laugh. âyou answered practically all the questions i had.â
donghyun returned it with his own weak chuckle. âthe therapyâitâs got me communicating my feelings a lot better than weâre used to.â
weâreâwe⊠how does one word manage to bring you so much comfort and riddle you with just as much ache?
âitâs doing you some good,â you smiled softly, your mindful breaths turning back into second nature. âyou look⊠better.â
he nodded firmly, his eyes crinkling into crescents. âi think itâs the best decision i ever made for myself.â
you hummed, dropping your eyes to your half-empty cup. was this the closure you both needed? is it time to walk away forever? is that what this was for? why did you find yourself wanting to keep talking? god, you couldnât help but miss him even though he was sitting right in front of you. you missed his quirks and ditziness, how in-sync you guys were about so many things.
âtell me whatâs running through your head,â donghyun gently interrupted, leaning slightly forward as if you were trading secrets. you hesitated. was it healthy to miss him? after the time thatâs passed? you bit your lip, slowly losing yourself to your thoughts again. donghyun dug into his pocket again and produced chapstick, handing it to you. you subconsciously applied it, not biting your lip anymore, when you realized what just happened.
âwhy did you hand me this?â you asked confused. donghyun smiled, rubbing the back of his neck. âyou never bite your lips after you apply chapstick so i carried around your favorite for you to use. i was gonna give it to you today before we parted waysâŠâ
and there it was. the impending goodbye. the approaching end credits. you knew this was inevitable. you prepared yourself for this all of yesterday. so why, after all the time apart and spending it with new people, did you find it hard to let him go? it wasnât like you wanted to get back together with him. you knew that was a no-no. you and woonhak talked about it in lengths. heck, even you and dongmin talked about it after what happened with gawon. so why did it feel like a part of your soul would go with him when he leaves?
donghyun waved his hand in front of you, his face peaking from behind it. ây/n? come back down to earth, silly.â
you gently grabbed his hand and pushed it down. âdonghyun⊠what happens now?â
when your eyes met, you could feel the tears welling up again so you turned to the fish tank, counting all the fish inside. you felt him grab your hand and brush your knuckles with his thumb. âwhat do you want to happen?â
your lips quivered a bit. what did you want to happen? you didnât want to lose him. not forever. but you also didnât want to add on to his stress. you didnât want to add onto your own, not when everything was getting better. âi want whatever is best for you, whatever will help you succeed and do all you want in this life.â
âmmm, can i ask what youâve been thinking about?â donghyun asked.
you hesitated, glancing over at your ex, but the encouragement on his face helped you swallow your fear. âi was thinking about how much you meant to me and continue to mean to me. i donât⊠i donât wanna lose you, but i know that being in each otherâs lives can create more stress for us in the long run.â
donghyunâs face didnât hold any disappointment. you were glad. he focused on your clasped hands and smiled sadly. âiâm glad. i was thinking the same way.â
you couldnât stop the tear that escaped. âdoes this mean goodbye?â
âit doesnât have to,â he trailed off, looking into the tank. âi think we can still be friends. we just have to say goodbye to the versions of us that planned a life together.â
âthatâs so sad,â you whispered.
he nodded in agreement. âit is, but iâm willing to sacrifice that to get my best friend back. what do you think?â
was this a good idea? you pursed your lips. when you guys first decided to try being just friends, it was fresh off the breakup. of course, itâd hurt, right? but, now, you guys had your own separate lives and things seemed to be looking up for both of you.
âokay,â you decided. âletâs be friends.â
the grin growing on his face caused a smile to grow on yours. âto a fresh start?â he suggested, holding his half-full coffee cup. you held your own coffee up. âto a fresh start.â

@f1obsessed123 not y/n ditching williams for mclaren out of nowhere. girl, what happened?? đ #vegasgp
@pitlaneee from being âcasualâ with franco, to now being a papaya girl? y/nâs really committed to keeping us on our toes đ
@oversteerchic i need answers. y/n has been repping williams all season, and now sheâs mclaren? what is going ON? đł
@dr3hyper not people acting like she didnât rep vcarb AND mclaren before she was even over at williams
@f1teaspiller okay but hear me out: y/n switched teams because of franco. iâm connecting the dots, peopleđ”ïžââïž
The Las Vegas Grand Prix buzzed with its usual energyâfans flooding the paddock, the flashing lights of the Strip in the background, and the distinct hum of engines roaring in the garages.
Youâd been invited to both Williams and McLaren hospitality for the weekend, but somehow, you found yourself seated in McLarenâs bright, sleek lounge, a papaya lanyard around your neck.
The decision to hang out with McLaren wasnât entirely intentionalâor maybe it was. Youâd started the day visiting the Williams garage, exchanging friendly hellos and taking a few casual photos for your social media. But by evening, your Instagram story was a full-blown McLaren takeover.
âAlright, one more time,â Lando said, tossing a playful arm around your shoulder as he grinned at the camera.
The McLaren PR team snapped away, and Oscar stood to your other side, holding up a peace sign.
âYou know, this is the most McLaren content Iâve ever posted,â you joked, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear as you handed your phone to Lando to snap a selfie.
âWell, welcome to the better side of the paddock,â Lando quipped, smirking. âPapaya looks good on you, by the way.â
Oscar chimed in, his tone light but teasing. âCareful, Lando. Sheâs supposed to be neutral.â
âIâm just visiting,â you laughed, but the comment hung in the air longer than you intended.
You glanced at your phone, the likes and comments piling up.
â Y/N in the McLaren garage?? WHAT IS HAPPENING???
â Not her switching to McLaren⊠does Franco know about this??
â Wait, did they break up?? Sheâs with Lando and Oscar now???
The whispers in the paddock werenât far behind. When a friend forwarded you a post from a popular F1 gossip page a few days after the Brazilian Grand Prix, your stomach dropped.
Franco had been spotted with someone elseâa woman who was older and carried a reputation for stirring trouble.
The caption read: Franco Colapinto seen with an unexpected companion after the Brazil race⊠trouble in paradise with Y/n?
âGreat, just what I needed,â you muttered under your breath, seeing Franco walking by as you scoff in disbelief.
âWhatâs up?â Lando asked, leaning over to peek at your phone. His eyebrows shot up as he read the caption. âYikes. Thatâs⊠not great.â
Oscar glanced over, frowning. âWait, is that about Franco?â
You nodded, pressing your lips into a thin line. âApparently. Theyâre already calling him a cheater and a liar.â
Lando scoffed, shaking his head. âGossip pages will say anything for clicks. I wouldnât read too much into it.â
âStill,â you said, your voice quieter now, âitâs not exactly fun to see.â
âYou okay?â Oscar asked, his expression genuinely concerned.
You shrugged, forcing a smile. âYeah. Just⊠itâs a lot. People are already jumping to conclusions.â
âWell, if youâre hanging out with us out of spite,â Lando teased, trying to lighten the mood, âat least let me know so I can make it look convincing.â
You rolled your eyes, laughing despite the tension swirling in your chest. âDonât flatter yourself, Norris. Iâm here because I want to be.â
âGood,â Oscar said, his tone soft but firm. âBecause youâre always welcome here.â
As the night wore on, you couldnât help but notice the pointed stares from fans in the paddock and the occasional murmur of your name as you passed by. The drama was snowballing fast, and the gossip pages were eating it up.
Later, as you sat in the McLaren hospitality suite, sipping a glass of water to calm your nerves, your phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from one of your friends.
âYouâve seen the rumors, right? Are you okay?â
You sighed, staring out at the track as the lights of Vegas twinkled in the night, creating a show of the glitz and glamour that came with sin city.
âYeah,â you whispered to yourself, though you werenât entirely sure it was true.
The day Franco was spotted with the woman, the weight of the rumors and the sight of him with someone else hit you like a freight train.
The feeling was immediateâraw, painful, and, for some reason, unsettling. You hadnât expected to care this much, but there it was, gnawing at you.
In a daze, you pulled your phone from your bag, your hands trembling as you tapped his contact. The call rang through, the usual excitement of hearing his voice now replaced by a thick, uneasy silence.
âPick up, Franco,â you muttered under your breath, as if the words themselves could will him to answer.
The phone clicked, and you almost sighed in relief when you heard his voice. âHey, Y/N,â Franco said, a faint edge of surprise in his tone. âWhatâs up?â
Before he could say anything else, you cut straight to the point, your words coming out in a rush. âI saw the pictures. What the hell, Franco?â
There was a long pause, and then the sound of rustlingâlikely him running a hand through his hair. âWhat are you talking about?â
âThe woman,â you spat, feeling your heart race. âWith you. Out in the city that night. Donât play dumb.â
His voice hardened, but you could still hear the confusion. âY/n, relax. Itâs not what you think.â
âNot what I think?â you repeated, your voice rising despite your efforts to stay calm. âThen explain it to me, because it sure as hell looks like youâre out here with someone else.â
âYouâre making a bigger deal out of this than it is,â Franco said, his voice losing its patience. âItâs nothing.â
âNothing?â You were incredulous now, the words tumbling out. âWhy are you even with her, then? What is it, Franco? Am I just some sort of⊠game to you? I thought youâd at least care a bit more to not humiliate me like this.â
Franco sighed, and the exasperation in his tone made your stomach churn. âY/N, weâre not even actually dating. Why do you care so much?â
The words hit you like a slap, ringing in your ears. The hurt was immediate, settling deep into your chest as if your heart had been crushed.
You took a step back, forcing yourself to breathe, trying to keep your voice steady. âSo, thatâs it? Our friendship and everything nothing? This whole thing⊠it was just some game to you?â
There was a long pause before Francoâs voice came through, distant and unbothered. âY/N, it was just for fun. You know that.â
A lump formed in your throat, and you tried to ignore the sting of insecurity creeping in. He didnât need to remind youâit was fake dating, you knew that. But hearing him say it so plainly made something inside you twist.
You exhaled, your response barely a whisper. âYeah, I get it.â
The line went silent, and for a moment, you just stood there, trying to steady your breath, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in your chest.
Francoâs voice softened, but you could hear the distance in it. âI didnât mean to hurt you, okay? Itâs just... complicated.â
But you didnât have the energy to respond. The weight of everything crashed over youâhis words, the rumors, the disappointment. âI need space,â you muttered, your voice shaky. âIâll talk to you later.â
You ended the call without waiting for him to respond, the screen of your phone flickering as you stared at it, your finger hovering over the end button for longer than necessary.
Another lump formed in your throat, and for a moment, you just stood there in silence, the reality of it all settling on your shoulders like an unbearable weight.
The connection between you and Franco, whatever it had been, felt like it had snapped in that moment.
You tried to reach out a few more times over the next couple of daysâtexts, DMs, trying to keep up the actâbut each time, the words you typed felt hollow.
The distance between you grew, and without him, the pretenses seemed meaningless.
The final straw came when he didnât respond to one of your messages, and it was then that you realizedâhe wasnât even trying anymore.
With a heavy heart, you stopped contacting him altogether.

lilymhe stunning baby!
flavy.barla oh youâre glowing sweet girl
ln4enthusiast wait, lando in y/nâs post? did her and franco break up or...?
You tried your best to hide the knot in your stomach as you scrolled through your phone, the news of Francoâs crash during qualifying still weighing heavily on you.
His name was all over the timeline, and despite what you told yourself about keeping your distance, you couldnât shake the worry.
You knew he was fine, but the image of him in the car, skidding out of control, kept replaying in your mind. You could feel your anxiety building, but you told yourself not to overthink it.
âY/n, you good?â Landoâs voice pulled you from your thoughts, and you glanced up to see him giving you a concerned look.
âYeah, Iâm fine,â you quickly replied, forcing a smile. You didnât want to seem distracted, especially with Lando walking you through the paddock on your way to McLaren hospitality. You had a job to do, after all.
But as you rounded a corner, you froze. There, standing near the McLaren hospitality, was Franco. His posture was relaxed, but his usual easygoing demeanor seemed off.
The second his eyes met yours, the tension in the air was palpable, even though he gave you a small, almost apologetic smile.
Lando, always the sharp one, raised an eyebrow as he glanced between you and Franco, clearly aware of the history between you two.
âWait, why are you here, Franco?â he asked, a hint of amusement in his voice as he looked from you to the McLaren hospitality.
Francoâs gaze flickered uncomfortably for a second before he shrugged, his tone nonchalant but a little too forced. âJust... visiting. Thought Iâd say hi, you know?â
Lando raised another eyebrow, clearly confused. âYou visiting McLaren? Thatâs a new one.â
You shifted uncomfortably, feeling the weight of the situation. Francoâs smile was faint, as though he wasnât quite sure how to navigate this, and you couldnât help but wonder if he was trying to downplay the tension between you.
âYeah, well... small world, right?â you said, trying to steer the conversation away from the awkwardness.
Lando, still eyeing Franco with a skeptical look, finally shrugged. âAlright, alright. Anyway, letâs head inside before the hospitality people think weâre getting into trouble out here.â
The three of you walked in, but you couldnât shake the feeling that Lando wasnât quite buying the situation. The entire moment felt strange, but you pushed it to the back of your mind, following them into the McLaren lounge.
Later that evening, your phone buzzed with an incoming call. Francoâs name flashed on the screen, and despite the mix of frustration and confusion swirling inside you, you hesitated for only a moment before answering.
"Y/n," Franco's voice came through, sharp but laced with something else. "What was that back there with Lando? That whole... thing? What's going on with you?"
You leaned back against the hotel room wall, taking a deep breath. You had tried to shake off the tension, but hearing his voice again stirred everything you were trying to avoid.
You swallowed your annoyance, but it came out in your tone.
"Why do you care so much about who Iâm with? We arenât even dating, Franco," you said, the words harsher than you intended.
The silence on the other end was deafening, and you immediately regretted the way theyâd come out. But the damage was done.
Franco's voice was quieter when he spoke again, though you could still hear the frustration beneath it. âForget it, Y/n. Itâs not worth it.â
You could feel the weight of the conversation hanging between you, thick and uncomfortable, but you refused to let it drag you down.
"Fine," you replied, voice almost flat. "Weâre not dating, so what does it matter?"
âYeah, right," Franco said with a sigh. "Just... forget it, alright? It's not worth this."
He hung up before you could respond, leaving you with the feeling that, despite everything, something had shifted. You sat in the silence, your phone still in your hand, wondering what exactly was worth it.

Fragments (Mingyu, Seungcheol) Ë â©Â°Ëđ« âïœĄË

Genre: Slight angst, fluff, romance
AU: University!au, Coming of Age!au

Synopsis: Growing up with someone you love isnât easy, well at least for Seungcheol, he never expected to be a life-altering heartbreak for you either, and while he did wish for a second chance, that plan had only backfired on him when he received an invite to your engagement party with Mingyu.
Note: Iâm finally done with the long awaited fic! I kept pausing and got busy in between, but overall Iâd say that Iâm satisfied with it. Thank you all for waiting and I hope you like it! Donât forget to like + reblog as always to help support me and other writers, happy reading!
WC: 12k (exceeded my estimate omg)
Taglist: @nerdycheol @notevenheretbh1 (Thank you guys so much!)
Seungcheol remembered the first time he saw you. It was at his friend Jeonghanâs house, your nose crinkled adorably as you read some cheesy romance novel at sixteen on the cream sofa in the living room.
He had wanted to say something, but all he could do was smile as Jeonghan introduced him to your parents. Since then, he has been practically your familyâs newest son besides Joshua, their other best friend.
When Seungcheol had received his fair share of confessions from girls all over the school in his senior year, he had always declined them politely because he was just never interested in any of them, except this time, it was different ever since the day Jeonghan had introduced you to him.
In moments wherein he would receive a confession from someone, he would see you walk by and forget the girl even existed, opting to call out your name instead and jog after you.
He would even walk you to your class or visit you in your classroom, using the âprotective brotherâs friendâ excuse, when in reality, he was only scoping out the potential guys who were interested in you in your class.
âDude, do you like my sister? You look like a lost puppy following her around,â Jeonghan chuckles. Seungcheol raises his brow at his friend and turns to Joshua, who just shrugs as he agrees with Jeonghan.
âYou hang around Y/n so much that thereâs already rumors being spread of her being your crush or girlfriend,â Joshua says flatly.
âGuys, Iâm just looking out for her, you know we all care about her like a little sister. Come on, Iâm just a lot more proactive than Jeonghanâ Seungcheol whined.
It was half true, he did want to look out for you because he cared, but also because he wanted to ward off any of the guys who were admiring you.
âYou act like I leave her for dead, people probably think sheâs your little sister instead of mine,â Jeonghan says, bored.
âOh by the way, I honestly canât believe sheâs seeing this guy in the other class, his name was Jeon Wonwoo or something? He asked her out on Valentineâs Day,â Seungcheol whipped his head around and stared at Jeonghan, who was way too engrossed in his laptop even to notice the way Seungcheolâs brows furrowed.
Seungcheol felt his heart clench, no wonder you were starting to decline his invitation to walk home with him, Joshua, and your brother.
You had even started distancing yourself from them. It wasnât that noticeable at first, but you were definitely around them less, opting to spend more time with a certain boy that he had seen with you way too often.
âSo heâs buying her snacks and getting her flowers every morning? Thatâs crazy to me. I mean, Y/n is still so young, how are you letting this slide?â Seungcheol whined.
Looking back, he remembers you walking around hand in hand with a tall guy who had glasses on, and you were always smiling at whatever the guy said to you.
As Joshua was about to get another word out about how Seungcheol was probably going to cry about you growing up and becoming your own person with an identity, you suddenly walked into the living room and plopped onto the seat beside Jeonghan. Your brother scoffed and rolled his eyes as you accidentally knocked the laptop from his lap.
âI heard my name? Are you guys gossiping about me?â You say playfully.
Seungcheol felt his ears warm up at the sound of your voice, despite you being a mini version of Jeonghan, he still couldnât help but fall for you as a person because of how charming you were.
âYeah, I told them about the boy youâre seeing in the year above yours. Is he your boyfriend or is he just a crush?â Jeonghan runs a hand through your hair and you hum with a smile on your face.
âHeâs my boyfriend, a super sweet guy. I never expected him to ask me out or even feel the same way, but I like him,â Seungcheol could hear the love practically dripping from your voice, and he wanted the green-eyed monster to simply swallow him whole.
âYouâre so gross if he hurts you, weâll be after his head. Please tell him as a reminder,â Jeonghan then flicks your forehead and you whine.
Seungcheol could never get tired of seeing the way you and Jeonghan interacted, the way you reacted cutely, and how your nose scrunched in the most adorable way possible.
Turns out, Jeonghanâs promise was going to come around way sooner than any of you wouldâve thought.
As Seungcheol was there for your first boyfriend, he also ended up being there during your first heartbreak.
He clearly remembers the day you shuffled over to your older brother quietly and held onto his arm for support, Jeonghan opting to pull you close to his side instead. Your eyes were soaked with tears, the guys looking at you worriedly on the way home.
âWeâll head in, I gotta take care of the little one first. You guys go ahead,â Seungcheol and Joshua nodded, still worried about your current state, but decided to leave your actual older brother to it because he knew what to do.
That night, Jeonghan texted their group chat about how Wonwoo had broken up with you that day.
Some bullshit excuse like you guys werenât meant to be, when in reality, Wonwoo had been seeing a different girl behind your back and didnât know how to tell you that he fell out of love, something Seungcheol couldnât fathom.
How could someone fall out of love with you? You had so much to offer and you had so much love to give.
Seungcheol cursed the kid out in his head and texted that he would deal with him, but before he could do anything stupid, Joshua had to talk him out of it.
He knew it was a bad idea to even confront Wonwoo for breaking your heart, but he couldnât help it, not when he couldnât stand the look of hurt that graced your pretty face, the way tears welled up in your big doe eyes.
But, Seungcheol also considered the fact that you wouldn't like it if he got into a fight either.
Your first heartbreak felt like a blur after a few years, and Seungcheol had found himself watching from the sidelines again as you grew up to be such an independent and self-assured young woman. However, he couldâve never expected to become the face of your second biggest heartbreak.
Seungcheol, Jeonghan, and Joshua were now in their third year of college, and you had just entered as a freshman.
With him and Jeonghan studying business management and Joshua taking the psychology route, you were now added to their little family as well, this time majoring in fashion design.
âAre you guys proud of me? Iâm finally an adult! Canât wait to rot away for the next three to four years while you guys only have a year left again,â You joked as you settled on the seat beside Joshua.
Jeonghan had offered you a place to live that was in the same building, and it was pretty affordable, while still being near campus. Seungcheol thanked whatever deity was up there for giving you the opportunity.
Though you guys werenât apart for that long, albeit the guys visiting you during every break since they started living away from your hometown, it still felt like something was missing during their time in college.
You felt the same admittedly enough, and even though you enjoyed the solace that came with the silence of not having to have the guys around with their constant bickering and yelling, you couldnât help but miss them dearly.
So, when your brother offered up an apartment in the same building as theirs, once you got accepted into the same school, you took it immediately.
âHey, weâll still live here until we get stable jobs after graduating, baby. You donât have to sulk, you wonât be lonely and weâll make sure of it,â Seungcheol chuckled.
You felt your heart beat faster at the sound of his voice, youâve seen Seungcheol ever since you guys were teenagers, but you had to admit, college and becoming an adult was catching up to him.
Seungcheol looked broad, and it was the result of continuously working out and his efforts to maintain his body and health, but he also carried a different air around him, one that made you feel choked up and so small around him.
You held back from developing feelings for Seungcheol though, as he was your brotherâs best friend. It was strictly sibling code, but Jeonghan didnât seem to care if you dated any of his friends for that matter.
âIâll take it,â You smile at Seungcheol.
You couldnât help the fluttering you felt in your chest, but you also weighed your feelings for the man.
Seungcheol was handsome, and he had a charming personality to match, but would he date you? He most likely saw you as a little sister above all else, and he was Jeonghanâs best friend, your brother would never let you live it down.
You were so wrong though because not even a month after you had moved in, Seungcheol had asked you out on a date.
You were pleasantly surprised, not expecting him to ever look your way at all, but here you were as the man handed you a small bouquet, pink dusting his cheeks as he waited for your answer.
âYes Cheol, Iâll go out with you,â Seungcheolâs eyes lit up as he picked you up and spun you around out of excitement.
You laughed once he put you down, and on the way home, he couldnât help but announce it to both of his roommates. Jeonghan raised a brow at you, and you shrugged shyly under your brotherâs gaze.
One date with Seungcheol turned into two, then three, until you finally agreed to be his girlfriend. Things got serious quickly between the two of you, given how long youâve known each other, and Jeonghan and Joshua couldnât help but laugh at their friend who was finally experiencing a relationship for the first time.
You were both acting like lovesick fools whenever you visited the apartment and within a year, your relationship had progressed into something deeper.
Seungcheol opted to move over into your apartment on the floor above, and you both even decided to adopt a puppy and name her Kkuma.
Life couldnât have been better, especially when Seunghcheol took great care of you in all ways.
âHi baby, I picked up some things at the store that we were running out of. How was your day?â Seungcheol kissed your cheek as he placed the groceries on the kitchen island.
You were currently cooking dinner for the two of you, and you turned gratefully toward your boyfriend. He is the most perfect partner you could ever ask for.
Communication with Seungcheol was easy, loving him was easy, and being with him was easy, but it was as if he had become an entirely different person once you were about to reach the two-year mark of your relationship.
Seungcheol started becoming more closed off, he spent more time at his new job, and he started lashing out at you, causing huge blowup fights between you both, resulting in you having to sleep at Jeonghan and Joshuaâs place more often than not.
âI donât understand whatâs gotten into him, you know he seems fine at work, but now heâs raising his voice at you? Y/n, we know Seungcheol is our best friend, but his actions are already harming you, donât you think itâs better to break up?â Jeonghan looked like he was pleading with you.
Your older brother knew better than anyone, and you bit your lip softly. Even Joshua and Jeonghan had started to notice the change, it was how Seungcheol even refused to spare you a glance at parties, or how he had started to leave you alone more often, even during his day off.
What ticked Jeonghan off though, was the fact that Seungcheol had already raised his voice at you in front of them multiple times.
He couldnât stand to see his baby sister being taken for granted by someone who once cared about her so much, he wondered what on earth happened to the Seungcheol who vowed to take care of you.
The one who always doted on you and scolded Jeonghan for leaving you alone when you needed him.
âHey, take it easy on her. Two years is a long time Han, so itâs not like Y/n can walk out on him instantly just like that. I have to agree with your brother though, Y/n. This isnât healthy for you, and weâre willing to help you with whatever just to make things easier,â Joshua pulls you into his side on the sofa and you huff.
The Seungcheol you were with felt unrecognizable, and you just wished you could run away from him for once, so you decided to confide in the two about how your best friend, Mingyu, had offered to take you to Italy with him because he was going to model for a brand there, and how they loved your portfolio and wanted to take you under their wing as a senior fashion designer.
âDonât you think itâs wiser to take the opportunity? I know you love Cheol, but Y/n, you canât keep putting up with this. Heâs only hurting you,â Joshua says softly.
You shake your head and let out a deep sigh. What would it take for you to walk away from it all? Leaving sounded tempting, yet all you could think about was how Seungcheol would feel if you left.
He could still change, but how much longer could you endure the pain heâs been putting you through?
âLook, we understand that itâs easier said than done, but youâre still so young and have the whole world to explore. Donât chain yourself down to this relationship, Y/n. We promise to deal with Seungcheol if it makes you feel better, but for now, we think you should take the opportunity to go to Italy,â Jeonghan looks at you painfully, and the last thing you wanted to do was to hurt your brother, seeing as you being in pain was already doing just that.
âIâ'll go to Italy, but promise me that you both will take care of Cheol? I know he hasn't been the best lately, but heâll need as much support as I do. It's been difficult, but you guys are right, I still have the world out there for me, and whatever happens with Cheol will happen. Find our way back to each other or not, I think Iâm ready for a fresh start,â You declare.
Jeonghan and Joshua look at you fondly, as Seungkwan, their new roommate and one of your closest friends, walks into the room, eyes as wide as saucers.
âWait, youâre taking Mingyu up on that offer in Italy? Thatâs amazing, Y/n! Iâve been waiting for Seungcheol to finally get his grip off of you so you can flourish!â You laugh awkwardly as Seungkwan crushes you in his embrace.
âUgh, Kwannie! Mingyu said heâs supposed to leave next week, I think itâs finally time I give him the answer heâs been waiting for. Are you coming with?â You pout at Seungkwan. Your friend nods and gives you a wide grin.
âIâm coming along so I can get used to the environment, I canât leave these two just yet you know? Besides, Iâll go tell my sister once Iâm ready and Iâll be there with you both ok? Now come on, letâs head upstairs, Iâll help you pack!â Seungkwan pushes you out the door and you bid your brother and Joshua goodbye, promising to call them later.
You were happy you had Seungkwan to keep you company while packing your things, he kept your mind at bay knowing you still had to talk to Seungcheol about everything that was happening.
You couldn't just get up and leave without an explanation, it just wasn't who you were, and you felt like it wouldâve been unfair for your boyfriend.
Once you finally zipped up your last suitcase of personal belongings, you didn't have much, to begin with, and Seungkwan lugged the rest of your bags down to their apartment, you heard the door open. âHeâs home,â you thought to yourself.
You walk out of your room and see Seungcheol walk into the apartment, his body language seeming a bit more apprehensive than usual, but you know you have to say something.
You were already leaving for Italy the next week, and this was probably going to be the last time youâd be seeing Seungcheol in a while.
âCheol? Can we talk, please?â Your voice was timid, almost coming out as a squeak if Seungcheol didnât listen hard enough. He turns to look at you, his gaze suddenly soft but still somehow holding anger.
âCan you make it quick? I still have something to do so I wonât be in the house for long, you donât have to wait for me,â Seungcheol huffed.
Your heart broke at how you could barely even recognize the person in front of you.
This wasn't the same Seungcheol who constantly doted on you while growing up. The Seungcheol who was too scared to even raise his voice at you, knowing you hated it when people yelled at you.
How did his, âHey angel, donât wait up for me and get some rest, you had a long day,â turn into cold scoffs and constant eye rolls? Was he tired of you?
You finally gather enough courage to speak up about everything youâve held back from him the past few weeks.
This wasnât your Seungcheol anymore, this man was a stranger in your apartment, he was a stranger you once knew, a stranger whom youâve loved with your whole heart, only for him to throw it all away. You finally had enough, it was time for you to choose yourself for once.
âYou know what? Fine, I will. To sum it all up, Iâm leaving you Seungcheol, this isnât gonna be the same as some silly little sleepover at Joshua and Jeonghanâs. Iâm leaving, Iâve had enough of dealing with your outbursts and I barely recognize you anymore. Iâm sorry I had to end it like this, but Iâm choosing myself this time,â a stray tear makes its way down your face and you hold in the urge to sob.
This was for your own good, and if leaving Seungcheol and bearing the pain was what it took, so be it.
You knew it would be hard to move on, but you also knew that making a choice for yourself and choosing yourself for your peace was what you needed right now.
âIâm letting go, maybe we arenât meant to be, or weâll find our way back, but I canât promise anything. Iâm sorry, you donât have to tell me anything else because I leave next week. I have everything packed, and you can talk to my brother and Joshua about living arrangements, Iâll still pay the lease until the end of the month,â You choke out.
Your nose was starting to get stuffy and your vision started to blur, you couldnât even look at Seungcheol as you told him everything.
âY/n, please, donât leave. Iâm sorry, just give me time to fix everything, I know I fucked up. Why did you decide to drop all of this on me now? Iâ I canât, Y/n, please,â Seungcheol was pleading with you.
You knew it was unfair, but after countless months of giving in to Seungcheol and settling with being the same understanding girlfriend you are, you couldnât help it.
âIâm sorry, I canât let you fix everything when youâre too late. Iâve given you countless chances to finally pull yourself together, even going as far as to leave you alone because I know how much you hate being bothered when youâre stressed, and this is what I get in return. Iâve been too understanding towards you that itâs starting to affect me, please, just let me have it this once Seungcheol,â You were now the one pleading as tears cascaded down your face like a waterfall.
Seungcheolâs heart ached as he looked at you. You were such a self-assured, independent, and strong young woman, he knew that since the moment he met you.
Jeonghan made sure you grew up not needing a man to take care of you but also made sure you still left a part of yourself where you allowed someone to take care of you once you felt vulnerable enough.
This wasnât the same woman he had fallen in love with, instead, what Seungcheol saw in front of him was the same girl who had her heart crushed by a stupid teenage boy back in high school.
You looked so broken, so frail, as you tried to shield yourself away from him. Seungcheol couldnât help but feel as if the world was closing in on him, had he been too neglectful the past few months?
Did he let his emotions get the best of him when he had promised you that he would keep a level head around you? Hell, he even promised your brother he would never hurt you, and look where it got him.
Seungcheol couldnât even get another word out before you left the apartment, leaving him in the silence of a home that was once filled with the warmth of the love you had once before.
Ten minutes had passed and Seungcheol still couldn't believe that you had walked out on him, had he been too lax of a boyfriend already?
He knew he fucked up and he had been wanting to fix things between you both, but it ultimately ended in failure the moment you walked out of that apartment.
You hold the handle of your carry-on bag as Mingyu checks you both in while you are still taking in the atmosphere of the entire airport.
It felt surreal, a week ago you were in the apartment you once shared with Seungcheol, everything you withheld from him boiling over, and now youâre at the airport with one of your best friends in the entire world, ready to go to Italy and start life over.
âHey, I got our boarding passes, let's head in and get past security so we don't have to deal with the hassle later. Also, you look tense, lighten up a bit, you need this reset,â Mingyu smiles at you gently while handing you your passport.
You nod and let out a breath, Mingyu was right, your life had been stagnant for too long, and this was something you deserved.
âThanks, Gyu, for everything. Youâve been nothing but kind to me, I seriously feel like Iâm indebted to you,â You joke, and Mingyu lets out a scoff.
âNo need to thank me, youâre the most amazing fashion designer I know, and with the company liking your portfolio and telling me that they would like to take you under their wing immediately, you should give yourself more credit where itâs due. This was all from your hard work, Y/n,â Mingyu shakes his head and you both go through security while lugging your bags through the scanners.
After going through security, you and Mingyu bought food and chatted at the boarding gate happily while waiting for your flight to board.
âIâm glad you took the opportunity, I was starting to think youâd be stuck here forever, forced to live a boring life with Seungcheol. No offense, of course, it's just that youâre way too talented to not show your colors to the entire world,â Mingyu flushes and you grin at him sheepishly.
You met Mingyu through Minghao, who introduced you to the man because he knew you needed a male model because you ran out of options for your menswear class.
âLook, I know you love your brother and all, but this is our last final for the year, Y/n! Think about it, you already had Joshua model for the midterm, and Jeonghan modeled for us during the first semesterâs finals, and our second-semester midterms.â Minghao gave you a pointed look knowing you had to do this for your sake.
You were too familiar with your brother and Joshuaâs builds, and despite getting near-perfect scores on your projects, you still wanted to try something that was out of your comfort zone. Minghao then snaps his fingers and you look at him in confusion.
âI have this friend, you remember Mingyu right? He was my model during the first round of midterms last semester. I think it would be great if you practiced with him since you aren't used to taller and broader builds,â You raise your brows at Minghaoâs proposition.
âI mean, youâre right about that. Give me his contact, and Iâll shoot him a message,â You smiled softly. Minghao handed you his phone with Mingyuâs contact as you input it into your phone.
You met Mingyu once for his measurements, saw his sweet smile once, heard him speak in his soft voice, and the rest was history.
Mingyu had turned into your rock, your other cheerleader who was there whenever your boyfriend wasn't. Now, youâre traveling the world with your best friend who is everything you could ever ask for.
âI appreciate the sentiment Gyu, I couldn't have gotten here without you being by my side. I guess I thought I was destined to just, you know, wait until I get offered a boring job at some corporate office that has nothing to do with my degree, then live with Seungcheol until God knows how long,â You laugh softly, looking back at what you had thought would be the rest of your life, but change is inevitable and it was time you accept it.
âOf course, you know Iâll always be by your side. It's my job to take care of you as your best friend, even if you insist that youâre completely fine on your own.â Mingyu pouts.
You laugh at Mingyu and heave a sigh of relief. You finally felt free after all these months.
From being too depressed to get out of the apartment, declining every invitation from your friends, to moving to Italy with both of your best friends and starting life over from scratch.
Your brother and your friends were right, even if you did love Seungcheol, some people just aren't meant to be in our lives for so long once they impact you negatively.
âOh, by the way, did Seungkwan send you his flight details? I swear, he has do-not-disturb mode on more, these days,â You laugh as you come across a picture of you, Seungkwan, and Mingyu on your last trip to Jeju during Seungkwanâs birthday.
Mingyu hummed and nodded, showing you a screenshot that Seungkwan had sent to him.
âHis flight is still later tonight, so heâll probably arrive the day after us or like at night? I donât know, time zones are weird,â Mingyu gave up trying to understand time zones and you laughed again at how cute your best friend was.
âIâm sure Seungkwan will call us once heâs there, so we donât need to worry much. What we need to worry about though, is where weâre going to be staying once we get there first,â You laugh.
Mingyu shows you an email on his phone from the company, it said you were going to be provided with housing since Mingyu was a model, and you were a senior fashion designer.
âWhat? Theyâre going to provide us with housing? Thatâs crazy,â Your mouth gaped like a fish and Mingyu laughed at you.
âI know, thatâs why I chose this company over every other one. The others only ever put your portfolio and resume aside, while the one weâre being hired to right now provided us both with opportunities. I thought it was only fair to bring you along since I did get scouted by big shots after uploading myself modeling in your pieces,â Mingyu smiled softly, his tone laced with gratitude towards you.
You wave off Mingyuâs remark dismissively. âYou worked hard you know? I think my clothes were only a little bit of help when it came to your actual scouting, I think you should give yourself more credit,â You reply.
After an hour of talking, you and Mingyu were finally headed into your seats on the plane. Suddenly, everything felt so surreal as Mingyu lugged your carry-ons into the overhead bins.
âI canât believe weâre moving to Italy, never in my life would I ever imagine hopping on a plane headed to work in Europe of all places,â You say to Mingyu, who is settled on the seat beside you.
âI think you should finally start believing it because you still might feel as though youâre dreaming the moment we land,â Mingyu chuckles and leans his head on yours, an action that makes you feel warm inside.
It felt nice having Mingyu around, he was healing a part of you that wished it was Cheol doing all this, but you knew better than to think of your ex right now because you were on the path of moving on from everything he put you through.
The flight was a breeze, and thankfully nobody was in the seat beside Mingyu, because he could easily slip into the restroom at any time, a luxury he didnât usually have if he was placed in a window or middle seat on the plane.
âYou know since we are just a few minutes away from landing, did I ever get the chance to thank you for being a huge blessing in my life?â You laugh as the plane is making its final descent.
âI knew you needed this opportunity because I saw how badly he was treating you, I had to give you this much because you deserve way better,â Mingyu replies gently.
Your heart blooms and you grip his hand, you are ready to move forward, and you know you have the right people by your side.
âSeungkwan, can you go pick up groceries at the Korean supermarket across the street? Itâs your turn since you are mooching off me and Mingyu until you move in with Vernon,â You jokingly call out to your friend.
Seungkwan grumbles and you laugh before turning to him from the kitchen. âYeah, donât worry, I already know whatever is on the list before you need to tell me, Iâll be back in like twenty minutes,â he tells you on his way out the door.
It had been a few months since you had arrived in Italy with Mingyu and Seungkwan, and you all had settled into the country quite easily.
Starting work was a breeze because the company was very accommodating and everyone was friendly, and you found yourself moving on faster than you expected.
âSeungkwanâs finally moving in with Vernon huh? I canât believe itâs already been a while since we got here. Now tell me, when are you going to give in to me?â Mingyu jokes as he wraps his strong arms around your waist.
You were no stranger to skinship with your best friend, but the veil between friendship and romance was starting to wear thin after moving in together after a few months.
Mingyu was just a stark contrast from who Seungcheol was, and you were starting to give in to him despite your fears of commitment.
It didnât help that your best friend was just as hopeless a romantic as you are, so Mingyu naturally took his time with you. It was something you were immensely grateful for because he fully understood that you probably werenât even ready to pursue another relationship.
See, Mingyu was naturally a soft-spoken man. During the entirety of friendship not once had he raised his voice at you, or anyone for that matter, even when he was angry or agitated.
Mingyu rarely blew up on people. You used to fear being yelled at because with Seungcheol, it was inevitable, and it only planted a fear of everyone raising their voice at you the moment Seungcheol had let go of all his reserve during a fight.
Even if Mingyu did raise his voice from across the apartment, he made sure it was at a reasonable volume that didnât scare you, and on the rare occasion that you both would get into a fight, Mingyu would only communicate his feelings towards you in a calm tone.
Mingyu was also just full of love, he was always so considerate towards everyone around him. He made sure you and Seungkwan knew how grateful he was to have you both by his side because this was a big step for all of you.
The nights when the three of you would drink together, and Mingyu would pour out his gratitude towards you both, about how he felt so happy that the universe had given him some of the most amazing best friends in the entire world (also yapping about how much he missed Wonwoo, his old roommate, but that was for another time).
It was just a huge plus that Mingyu also willingly helped around the house, naturally because you knew it was in your best friendâs upbringing to keep the house in proper shape.
Even cooking with Mingyu was an experience because you both enjoy sharing recipes and want to try them out together, which meant Seungkwan was treated to a delicious meal every time you and Mingyu would find a new dish to try out.
Mingyu made you experience new things that you couldnât when it came to your ex, and slowly, the feelings between you both unfolded.
Seungkwan couldnât deny it to you either that you and Mingyu would make a great married couple, you both were pretty tame and low maintenance, something that was rare to find these days.
âI know youâre not ready to start a relationship or deal with feelings right now after everything youâve been through with your ex, but trust me when I say this, Mingyu is the one you should marry. You both look so perfect together, and itâs a plus that he already likes you,â Seungkwan whined, and you laughed as he threw your other best friend under the bus.
Mingyu was out for an event with Minghao that night, and he wanted to bring you along but he also knew you hated huge events or loud places, so he opted to leave you at home with Seungkwan, promising to come back at a reasonable hour and to not drink so much.
It was a small action but it was something you felt grateful for, it showed that Mingyu still thought of you while having fun and living his life.
âIâve never thought about dating Mingyu, let alone marrying him but, I mean, heâs not that bad. Iâm already way past my ex anyway, so youâre right on that. Donât throw Mingyu under the bus like that ever again though,â You giggle. Seungkwan clicks his tongue and sips from his wine.
âI wish you met Mingyu before Seungcheol or something, you two make each other so happy and you guys donât leave me out at all. I love you and Mingyu so much despite everything weâve been through,â Seungkwan smiles softly and holds your hand.
Moving to Europe definitely wasnât an easy decision for the three of you, but you all found comfort in each other and got through hurdles together.
There were fights, and misunderstandings, one time you even walked out on them, but you all knew that at the end of the day, you all had each other no matter what.
Seungkwanâs words from that night echoed in your head as you snapped back to reality, Mingyuâs arms still wrapped around you with a soft grin on his face.
You wish you had met Mingyu before it all, maybe then you wouldâve narrowly avoided one of your most life-altering heartaches, but now you were ready to move forward with Mingyu.
âWhat if I told you that you already had all of me?â You didnât stop for a second and kissed Mingyu, who froze for a second, but immediately melted into the kiss.
You werenât afraid to love anymore. Mingyu was all the proof you needed, knowing you deserve a second chance after everything.
When you both pulled away, Mingyuâs cheeks were dusted pink, his signature smile with his canines tugging at his lips.
âYou donât understand how long Iâve been waiting for you to do that,â he breathed out cheekily, chasing your lips for more.
âYouâre so annoying, you know that right?â You laugh and pull Mingyu in for another kiss, this time with your arms around his neck.
Suddenly, you both hear a crash by the doorway and hear plastic bags falling, only to find Seungkwan with his mouth agape and eyes as wide as saucers.
âI was out for twenty minutes, what the hell happened,â Seungkwan choked out.
Itâs been years since Seungcheol had heard from you, and he was still a mess, except he was finally starting to get back up on his feet to help himself.
About a month after you had left, he had moved back in with Joshua and Jeonghan, and he didnât understand why they still welcomed him with open arms, let alone Jeonghan of all people.
You were his younger sister, and he hurt you, shouldnât he be cursing him out and telling him to go to hell?
âIf youâre wondering why you seem like in our good graces, Y/n told us to take care of you until youâre back on your feet. Youâre still our childhood friend Cheol, and even if we donât tolerate what you did to Y/n, she told us to make sure that you werenât going to do anything stupid. You need as much support as her, and who are we to deny when we care about you both?â Jeonghan says firmly.
Seungcheol felt his heart clench, even after he hurt you, you still cared enough to tell his two best friends to care for him.
You were an angel, and he took you for granted. You even went as far as to tell them that it was okay for him to move back in with them (granted Seungcheol also did twice as much housework compared to Jeonghan and Joshua because of how guilty he felt).
Now, three years had passed since you had moved to Italy, and you usually visited during the holidays, but Seungcheol was never around because it pained him too much to see you.
He had eventually gathered up the courage to try to move on, and while he is stable in his career as a form of distraction, he still had feelings for you deep in his heart.
You were his first love, and it wasnât going to change any time soon because he wanted you forever.
Every day he wished he wasnât immature enough to push you away, he silently prayed to every God above for him to give your relationship another shot.
Seungcheol was a changed man now, and he was willing to do everything in his power to be with you.
Seungcheol was hopeful, until he wasnât, especially when Jeonghan had dropped the bomb that you had invited them to your engagement party in Jeju island.
âThis has to be a joke, right?â Seungcheol could only laugh at how ridiculous it all seemed.
Were you engaged? It had only been a few years since you moved to Italy, he was sure you wouldnât have found a boyfriend in that period, let alone a fiancĂ©e.
âNope, youâre hearing it correctly. Y/nâs been bringing home her boyfriend, well I guess fiancĂ©e now, for three years already. I understand that itâs been rough ever since we started living separately, you wouldnât visit as much as Josh whenever she was around, understandably so, but sheâs moved on and he makes her happy,â Jeonghan sipped from his mug, and shrugged, making Seungcheolâs brows knit.
âI know exposure therapy isnât the way to go, but Y/n means a lot to us despite everything, you know that. You can get the closure you need and you can finally move on, Cheol,â Jeonghan continued before putting his cup down on the desk, this was his second cup of coffee, he had to stop at some point.
Seungcheol was in an internal debate with himself, he realized that while he did need closure, was it worth all the pain of seeing you again?
He knew he had to, it was what he needed before he could fully move on, but something in him was still hanging on to what couldâve been between you both.
âIâll go, maybe it is time. Iâll consider it,â Seungcheol slumps in his chair and stares outside the window of his office.
All the time he had spent building his company from the ground up so he could prove himself worthy once you came back, only for you to be engaged with someone else.
âYou donât have to force yourself though, just take it easy. Y/n will understand, you know she always does,â Jeonghan walks up to Seungcheol and leans by his desk, staring at the same city skyline in front of them.
Seungcheolâs hard work was undeniable, and it was all because of the effort he put in to forget you, but he just couldnât, Seungcheol knew he needed proper closure instead to fully move on from your past.
âIâll be fine Han, I can handle myself now,â Seungcheol says as his brows knit once more, looking back at the events of the past year.
He had started his own tech company and now heâs the CEO of a huge corporation, his career is now a reflection of all his hard work and dedication, but what was the use of all that money when he couldnât share it with someone else? That someone who he desperately wished was you.
âI know you can handle yourself Cheol, but you were a wreck when you first moved in. Me and Josh had to pester you for you to get back on your feet for fucks sake, I wouldnât hold it against you if had second thoughts about going,â Jeonghan says softly. As much as he knew that his friend could handle himself, he couldnât help but worry.
Since then, two weeks had passed since that conversation and your initial invitation to your brother and his best friends to your engagement party.
Jeonghan calls you excitedly as they settle on the plane to Jeju, Seungcheol lugging the bags into the overhead bins, and Joshua already taking a nap as other passengers continue to board.
âAre you certain that we already have assigned rooms? Ok, I understand. Take care Y/n! Weâll see you at the airport,â Jeonghan hangs up before turning over to Joshua and Seungcheol beside him.
âYou guys are sharing a room at the resort, and Iâm going to room with Seungkwan. Y/n and her fianceĂ© will be picking us up, so no funny business,â he continued.
Seungcheol clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes. He's a jealous guy and he canât help it, but youâre no longer his girlfriend and he knew he had to behave himself.
He couldnât wait to see who your fiancĂ©e was, and he tried to make the most of it at least because you were still someone whoâs considered family to him.
The flight was short-lived and they landed in Jeju in no time. Joshua stretched as they carried their bags from the conveyor belt onto the cart, and Jeonghan had received a call from you saying you were outside waiting.
Traveling with three bachelors felt like a nightmare for Seungcheol, it wasnât like they werenât capable of getting girlfriends, but rather, they were too busy for the dating lifestyle.
Seungcheol wouldnât wish for it to be anyone else though, he was just happy to have Joshua and Jeonghan around as his support systems.
âLast bag, letâs head out so we have enough time to rest before the party tomorrow. Donât wanna go on the plane with a hangover and a fuck ton of regrets once weâre headed home, just so we can mentally prepare ourselves,â Joshua breathes out. Though this wasnât a wedding, it sure did feel like one.
The only reason you and Mingyu had even decided to have an engagement party was because you two were going to have your main wedding in Italy with your close family members.
The party served as a gathering for distant friends and relatives to congratulate you both since you couldnât bring everyone to Europe with you.
As they headed out of the airport, Jeonghan could spot your figure and hear you calling out to them by your rental car.
Seungcheol had also caught sight of you and felt his heart skip, you looked more radiant since the last time he had seen you, granted it was probably because three years had passed, and he just couldnât believe it.
You looked healthier now, you were no longer frail, and your smile had reached your eyes again, the same glint of happiness in them.
Seungcheol had forgotten why they were here the second he saw you, but it was only for a moment until he saw your fiancée standing right beside you, his form towering over yours.
Seungcheol recognized who this man was, it was Kim Mingyu, your best friend since college.
âHi, guys! Itâs been so long, I missed you all so much!â You say with a smile and hug Jeonghan.
Your brother grips you tightly while laughing, he missed you just as much, if not more.
Seungcheol smiles at the scene in front of him, he had always adored your interactions with Jeonghan.
Joshua then walked over to Mingyu as the taller man helped him with the bags. So this is who you were marrying, your best friend who Seungcheol had always worried about deep down.
âHi Cheol, how was the flight? You must be tired, Jeonghan told me you guys were up early,â You greeted him softly, a smile still gracing your features.
Seungcheol blinked in disbelief, he never expected you to be so welcoming towards him, but years have passed and he understands that youâre over it by now.
âIt was alright at most, Iâm honestly just excited to relax at the hotel. Howâve you been?â Seungcheol smiled.
He looks over and sees Mingyu talking to Joshua about something while helping him with their bags, still weary about him.
âIâve been great, Italy with Seungkwan and Mingyu was one of the best decisions I couldâve ever made. I know there were some things we avoided because of our past, but I hope you know that Iâve done some reflection since then, so no hard feelings on this trip ok? I want you guys to relax,â You lead Seungcheol over to the car and he sits in the back with your brother and Joshua.
The ride to the resort was comfortable, courtesy of you and Mingyu being easy going as conversations flowed naturally.
Seungcheol gauged that you were in good hands, but his heart was still calling out for you, something he wanted to keep at a minimum. You were going to marry someone else, there was no chance left for him.
âYou have always had a good eye Y/n, this resort is beautiful,â Joshua compliments.
You laugh and brush off Joshuaâs comment sweetly, but it was true, you always had a good eye for things in general (except boyfriends apparently, but Mingyu be damned because he did everything in his power to win your heart).
âIâll bring you over to Seungkwanâs room since heâs staying across from me and Mingyu. Baby, can you lead Joshua and Seungcheol over to their rooms?â You turn to Mingyu, and Seungcheol catches the way your fiancĂ©eâs gaze is full of love for you.
His heart could only clench, was it genuinely worth the pain to support you? Seungcheol secretly wished for the ground to swallow him up whole.
âOf course, remember we still have dinner with everyone later, donât forget to tell Jeonghan the details,â Mingyu reminds you.
You nod and wave them off, dragging your brother over to a happy Seungkwan, who stands by the elevator waiting for you both.
Joshua and Mingyu had been in their own world, talking amongst themselves while Seungcheolâs focus had been on his phone the entire time.
âHey man, how are you? Jeonghan told us you were working hard to build your company up after we left for Italy,â Mingyu says in a friendly tone.
âItâs been great, it gets pretty lonely here at the top since the breakup, but itâs nothing I canât handle,â Seungcheol says with a smirk, finding the entire situation so ridiculous.
Joshua eyes him and chuckles to alleviate the jab that Seungcheol had taken at Mingyu, but your fiancée takes it just fine and continues the conversation calmly.
âI hope you find someone to share your success with in the near future. I understand that we all deserve to be loved by someone. Itâs just that some people we hoped to end up with arenât meant to be, and itâs not our fault,â Mingyu replies, tone still friendly and calm.
Seungcheol felt ticked off but decided to behave himself as the elevator arrived at their floor.
âHereâs the key card, as I mentioned earlier, there is a dinner weâll be having with the rest of the guests tonight, it will be at the restaurant by the beach. You can just give mine or Y/nâs name for the reservation if they ask, Iâll see you guys later! Rest up since you guys mustâve had a long flight,â Mingyu makes his leave.
Joshua turns to Seungcheol and raises his brow while unlocking the room.
âBehave a bit, I know itâs been a while but weâre here for Y/n and itâs about her, you donât have to like Mingyu, but letâs not cause any fights. Mingyuâs good to Y/n, and you can talk to Y/n about everything tonight after dinner if you need to,â Joshua says firmly.
Seungcheol hangs his head low, Joshua is right, he promised to behave himself because he understands that he needs to move on.
You had every right to leave him back then, and he should accept it, he just needs his final bit of closure, even if it hurts.
âIâm sorry, Iâll be more friendly toward Mingyu. Iâll keep myself in line, letâs rest so we can get ready later,â Joshua nods and smiles at Seungcheol, he was finally getting somewhere and it made him feel like a proud mom.
On the other hand, you were already being interrogated in your room by Jeonghan, Seungkwan, and your beloved fianceĂ© because of Seungcheolâs appearance.
âYou guys said it would be fine! Besides, I donât have any hard feelings! Heâs still like family Han,â You whine to your brother as you bury yourself in Mingyuâs embrace.
âHe was already taking jabs at Mingyu when I told him to keep himself in line. Y/n, I need you to talk to him and give him the closure he needs tonight so that he doesnât go mad tomorrow,â Jeonghan sighs.
You pout and Mingyu pecks your lips before taking your hand in his and rubbing it with his thumb as a sign of reassurance.
âIâm willing to do that, as long as weâll be ok by the party. Iâm sorry for causing problems,â You say sadly, now feeling guilt eat at you.
Inviting your ex was such a last-minute decision, but Seungcheol had been in your life for so long even before the breakup that you still felt the need to have him at such an important event in your life.
âLook what youâve done, Jeonghan. Y/n, itâs ok to make these decisions, all he needs is to talk to you and youâll be fine, we know you and Mingyu trust each other enough for you to make this decision,â Seungkwan tells you.
It was your brotherâs turn to pout as Seungkwan jokingly slapped his shoulder. Seungkwanâs words instantly made your shoulders feel lighter and you looked up at Mingyu.
âI trust you. Look, you can talk to Seungcheol tonight after dinner and weâll make sure that nothing will happen, alright? Donât worry,â Mingyu says softly. You nod and look over at your brother, who gives you a smile and a thumbs-up.
Dinner rolls around and youâve finished your makeup, along with your hair, all thatâs left is your dress for tonight.
âMingyu? Babe, can you come help me with the dress?â Your fiancĂ©e peeks from the bathroom and you giggle at his appearance.
âI told you to make the design simpler so you can put it on more easily, but then again, youâre Y/n. My favorite fashion designer,â Mingyu jokes while he zips up the garment and ties the corset in the back.
The two of you look in the mirror, and you take in your form. The dress was designed by yourself and it looked stunning in every way possible.
The sleeves were flowy and the skirt ended right above your ankles, the bodice had a built-in corset and the neckline was a deep v, along with a slit ran down the side until your upper thigh.
âI may not be the luckiest man in the entire world, but my god does the knowledge of me marrying you cancel all that out,â Mingyu says, his jaw slack.
You blush and cover your face with your hands, despite dating for two years and now being engaged, you could never get used to Mingyu complimenting and affirming you constantly.
âI love you, so much,â You kiss Mingyu and wrap your arms around his neck.
The two of you had also had it hard during your dating journey together, but it was nothing a bit of communication couldnât fix, especially when you both put in the work to get to where you are today.
âI love you more than you could ever imagine, vita mia (my life)â Mingyu says in between your kisses and wraps his arms around your waist.
Before things could progress even more, Seungkwan slams the room door open and clicks his tongue.
âNice to see youâre brushing up on your Italian guys, now if you donât mind, we have some guests to get to. You guys have five minutes to go to the lobby,â Seungkwan huffs and shuts the door again.
Itâs silent, until you and Mingyu start laughing.
âShall we?â Mingyu smiles at you after a laughing fit and you take his hand in yours. It was going to be a long night, but youâre with the people you love and thatâs all that matters.
At the restaurant, you were elated to see your family members and friends all gathered to celebrate your engagement.
âMom! Dad!â You grin wildly and greet your parents, seeing Jeonghan following right behind you to greet them as well.
âY/n, you look so beautiful tonight. I guess being with Mingyu is rubbing off on you,â Your mother jokes softly.
She had always been a fan of Mingyu ever since you brought him home, he was the epitome of any motherâs dream son-in-law.
âSheâs always been so beautiful, mom, even more so since the Italian sun hit her skin. Itâs lovely to see you tonight, have you seen my mother by any chance?â Mingyu wraps an arm around your waist securely, whilst smiling at your mother.
You were surprised at the display of affection since you two had been holding hands prior, but your eyes caught wind of Seungcheol and it clicked.
âI was just with her, sheâs always running off to greet the rest of the family and guests. Iâll go look for her so we can settle at the table together,â Your mother giggles while dragging your brother away, who waves at you sheepishly.
It seemed like he had a few words of his own for you two, but it could wait apparently.
Mingyu led you over to the reserved area by the waist as you greeted guests who had also arrived. âCongratulations on your engagement you two, I wouldnât have expected it from a mile away,â Minghao jokes.
âWouldnât be here without you, so we have to give you most of the credit,â You reply softly.
Minghao takes his hand in yours and looks at Mingyu with care in his eyes, he admires how well you both complement each other as a couple.
âI never expected anything further, but you two surprised me by a ton. Give yourself some credit for the connection you developed with one another, and Mingyu, if you hurt her, I wonât be as pliant,â Minghao continues, this time letting go of your hand and giving way for you and Mingyu to walk through.
âWouldnât dream of it,â Mingyu gives you his signature smile, canines looking as sharp as ever, before finally letting you sit at the table that was reserved for the two of you.
The beachside hall was starting to fill up with the rest of the guests, and you kept your grip on your fiancĂ©eâs hand.
âHey, you seem tense. Breathe a bit, weâll just say a few words and mingle with our friends, but if you do end up feeling a bit sick just tell me and we can go back to our room,â Mingyu caresses your hand with his thumb, and you feel more at ease with his assurance.
âSorry, itâs been a while, I still havenât gotten used to the fact that Iâm your fiancĂ©e now and not just your girlfriend. I promise to ease up a bit, and Iâll let you know if I do end up feeling a bit under the weather. Now, donât worry about me, and let us enjoy the dinner,â You squeeze Mingyuâs hand and kiss his cheek in the process, wondering what you did to deserve him.
What you failed to realize was that Seungcheol was watching the entire interaction happen right in front of him, jealousy boiling in his veins.
Seungkwan clears his throat awkwardly, which catches the attention of Seokmin, who is sitting beside him. Seungcheol gives Seungkwan an awkward smile, realizing that he was being way too obvious with his distaste.
Joshua chuckles and taps Seungcheolâs shoulder as a sign of reassurance. âTake it slow, you still have to talk to Y/n to get all that awkwardness out the door. Youâre still just as important to her you know? Again, we wonât hold it against you if you canât take how uncomfortable it feels being here Cheol,â Joshua uttered.
âIâm fine Josh, I did choose to come here. Once this dinner is over and we can have the conversation, I can finally move on with my life,â Seungcheol sighs, noticing you and Mingyu standing up all of a sudden.
âHi everyone, a pleasant evening to all of you! First, me and Y/n would like to extend our warmest welcome and gratitude to everyone who has made it, we cannot thank you enough for your presence.â Mingyuâs voice boomed through the hall as everyone cheered.
âAlso, thank you all for coming to celebrate our engagement with us. We sadly canât bring everyone to Italy for the wedding, so weâre here in Jeju to see you all,â You were speaking with so much happiness in your voice, Seungcheol knew right then and there that he had lost. You were happy, he couldnât do much anymore.
Throughout the dinner, different people dedicated a toast to your engagement. Seungcheol had fun listening to both of your families and their anecdotes, along with a few friends making heartfelt speeches.
You were extremely loved, it was undeniable with the amount of praises and stories being said about you.
âIâd like to dedicate the last toast, this is for both Y/n and Mingyu, because I wouldnât be living my best life right now without their endless support.â Seungkwan stood up and held out his wine glass, catching everyoneâs attention.
âAs we all know, the three of us decided to move to Italy together for a fresh start, a new change of scenery. I went with the sole intention of a vacation, though, after a month of being there, I was hooked. There was only one problem, I hadnât found a job just yet, but Y/n and Mingyu stayed by my side. They helped me get up on my feet, they offered me a place to stay, made sure I was fed, and helped me settle in, which is something I am extremely grateful for,â Seungkwan turns over to you and Mingyu, his eyes now glossing over with tears at you stared at him worriedly, but you knew he was in good hands with Vernon beside him.
âSorry for becoming emotional, anyways, throughout the time I lived with them, I also watched their feelings for each other unfold. Mingyu was the first one to fall, he was head over heels the moment he saw Y/n cooking in the kitchen, it was so funny because I witnessed it all. He had to debrief how he felt, and I could feel Mingyuâs sincerity, it was sweet,â Seungkwan continued, this time Vernon holding his hand for emotional support.
Everyone swooned at the revelation of Mingyuâs feelings and how they had come to be, it felt different hearing it from someone who was there every step of the way.
âY/n fell right after, and usually this girl isnât someone who jumps to conclusions, so she was in denial, but we both knew Mingyuâs treatment towards her changed drastically,â the audience burst out laughing, Seungkwan was on point that was for sure.
âTo cut this story short, they were two idiots mindlessly pining after one another, but they finally got together after I left to grab groceries on a random afternoon. I came home and Mingyu was eating Y/nâs face off,â it was Seungkwanâs turn to laugh as he recalled that fateful day.
It was sweet coming home to see the two of you together, but he was not a huge fan of the PDA that was displayed in front of him like a platter.
âI was not!â Mingyu whined. You giggle at your fiancĂ©e, squeezing his hand and landing a sweet kiss on his cheek.
âAs I was saying, Iâm still so grateful to you both to this day, and I feel lucky to have been the one to help you navigate your feelings for one another. A toast to the beautiful couple and a marriage of a lifetime!â Cheers erupted once again and everyone applauded Seungkwan for his speech.
Dinner felt lighter once a few sips of alcohol were shared, and Seungcheol found himself mingling with old friends from high school that you had invited.
âI genuinely thought you would be the one over there with Y/n, but life works in mysterious ways,â a drunken Soonyoung slurred to Seungcheol.
Seokmin cringed from beside him and hit his shoulder to shut him up, but everyone knew that once Soonyoung was drunk, his mouth was relentless.
Seungcheol could only offer an awkward laugh, Soonyoung didnât know the details of your breakup three years ago, so he couldnât exactly blame the younger man.
âYeah, Iâm just glad heâs taking care of her. I canât offer much now, but sheâs still our friend. I have no hard feelings knowing Y/n and I are better off as friends,â he replied to Soonyoungâs drunken ramble.
âI hope you find someone soon man, you also deserve to be happy. I think Seok and I are gonna head first since weâre both starting to feel the alcohol kick in, weâll see you tomorrow,â Seungcheol offered a smile and nodded in acknowledgment.
Everyone knew of Soonyoungâs low tolerance for alcohol, it was understandable that he decided to retire himself before any chaos ensued.
Seungcheol was left at the table with Joshua, Jihoon, and Jeonghan until Minghao approached. He settled himself into the seat beside Seungcheol, smiling and greeting everyone.
âHowâs the evening? Everyoneâs been leaving slowly, but you stayed. I expected you to be one of the first people to leave, no offense,â Minghao started.
âI canât blame you, having to sit through your exâs engagement dinner sounds rough, but itâs been three years and we grew up together. Bonds like that arenât easily dissolved, if you get what I mean,â Seungcheol chuckled while shaking his head, taking another shot of soju that he poured for himself.
âWe can all sympathize, you are a kind man Cheol. Iâve seen you as Y/nâs boyfriend before Mingyu, and you treated her well. What I want to know is, why you started pushing her away last minute. Y/n had always confided in us with your problems,â Minghaoâs curiosity had gotten the best of him, but it was in your inner circleâs best interest to find out what Seungcheolâs true intentions were.
âI mean, I was insecure, scared. Y/n has a good heart, sheâs the best and if I could turn back time, I would, but I ran away because she deserved better than me. I couldnât give her the love she desperately craved, we all know about her and those rom-com books,â Seungcheol looked down at his hands.
He felt stupid, and he was stupid, but maybe it happened for a reason.
Minghao felt sympathetic, Seungcheol was afraid to tell you because you were one of the most understanding people anyone could have ever met.
You truly were swamped with attention by your peers, but Seungcheol couldâve handled his insecurity better because you were happy to offer any semblance of assurance.
âI didnât want Y/n to bend over backward to constantly adjust to my needs because she doesnât ask for much in return, but I ended up hurting her instead. Iâm just content with the fact that Mingyu can give her the love I couldnât,â Seungcheolâs eyes trailed over once again to yours and Mingyuâs table, only to see you whispering to each other.
You looked tired, but it seemed that Seungkwan had overheard from beside you and gestured over to where Seungcheol was seated.
You bit your lip in hesitation, and Seungcheol instantly knew what was about to take place. Minghao seems to have caught the small interaction as well, and he pats Seungcheol on the shoulder to comfort him.
You squeeze Mingyuâs hand for assurance and your fiancĂ©e smiles at you.
âYou can do this Y/n, trust that it will be over before you know it. Seungkwan and I will be right here, we can go straight to our room after if youâre too overwhelmed,â Mingyu says gently, holding your hand as if it were as delicate as glass.
âIâll be back, I love you so much, thank you for trusting me enough to do this,â You mutter just enough for Mingyu to hear.
âI trust you, vita mia,â Mingyu kisses your hand once again and youâre off to the beach outside the hall. Seungcheol didnât even need to get confirmation as he excused himself and followed you outside.
The cold air surrounds you, along with the sound of crashing waves, feet buried in the sand as you take in the salty scent.
You hear another pair of feet shuffle behind you, and you let out a breath. âSeungcheol,â You turn around and sure enough, you see the man behind you.
âYou can go ahead, I understand youâre engaged and you look happy with him. Iâm here to finally close the chapter that we never ended properly, and I assure you, I have no other ulterior motives,â Seungcheol is looking at you, his eyes only holding sincerity in them.
âIâm sorry I left, I poured it all out on you right after work because of my anger, I just need to know why,â You were avoiding his gaze and playing with your engagement ring instead.
It felt stuffy, and you were opening a dam that was locked up for three years, but you prevailed for the sake of your marriage with Mingyu.
âI was dumb, I was insecure and pushed you away because I was jealous. We were both so young yet successful, but you were surrounded by so much attention, specifically by men who I couldnât even compare a fraction to, so I started pushing you away because of the nature of the industry you were going to work in,â Seungcheol poured out his feelings, his heart aching as he recounts the number of times he constantly brought himself down whenever he saw you with men who were models or in the same industry as you.
âI know you wouldâve done everything in your power to reassure me, and I also know you would never ask for much in return, but I didnât want you to suffer because of issues I had with myself. Iâm sorry for hurting you, Y/n,â tears were streaming down your face.
All this time, you thought you were the problem, that you no longer made Seungcheol happy, but in reality, he pushed you away because he felt undeserving of you.
âI thought you no longer loved me Cheol, and I am apologetic you feel that way, but that was a thing of the past. We were stupid, and I hope you know that I loved you, yet I chose to leave because I allowed myself to choose my well-being. I wish you communicated to me that you felt that way,â You were open to communication, it was normal, and if Seungcheol wasnât such a coward back then, the two of you wouldâve been fine.
âThings happen for a reason, and I still love you Y/n, but I was a coward. I knew the love I gave you wasnât even a quarter of what you deserved, you love reading romcoms, and youâre a hopeless romantic. I wanted to give you that love and I held myself to such a high standard, but that was until I noticed that the people that surrounded you did that effortlessly, and I felt angry,â You felt your heart crack, all this time he had left you clueless, and you were now forced to take in all the pain.
âThatâs all I needed to hear, I canât believe youâd do this to me, Cheol. You left me wondering like an idiot, and what you did for me at the time was enough, but I was left a fool. Things do happen for a reason, and Iâd like to leave it here. Thank you for the closure we both needed, no hard feelings at the party ok? We throw all the negative feelings away, because we grew up together, and I donât want to lose you as a friend,â Seungcheol agreed to your arrangement.
He couldnât afford to lose you either, and after having the conversation with you, his heart felt lighter. The confession was long overdue, but getting it out is what matters.
âNo hard feelings, thank you, Y/n. I only wish for the best between you and Mingyu, I also donât want to lose you. This is overwhelming for us both, so Iâll head first with Joshua. Congratulations once again,â You and Seungcheol smiled at each other, and you turned on your heel to run over to Mingyu, who had been waiting for you the entire time.
Seungcheolâs heart felt lighter, and even if it did hurt, he was content with even being a fragment in each otherâs lives. You were in good hands now, and he could see it in the way Mingyu held you close.

Mercy's POV
I push the first set of heavy double doors. 'Why are they so heavy.' I groan. 'Whatever I'm on my own now. I have to fine my first class.' I put on my airpods then pull out my phone from my pocket. I click on my favorite song, 'Perfect!' (a/n: idk what song to put so just pick for yourself) I continue my search. '129' I repeat to myself hoping I wouldn't forget. I grip onto my schedule paper glancing at it occasionally. 'Mr. Gruff. What kind of name is that.' I giggle to myself. As I'm looking at my paper I bump into someone. 'Ouch.' I say surprised to find myself on the floor. "Oh my bad" A deep voice says. I shake my head hoping that know that I'm fine. I slightly look up and am greeted to an helping hand. I take it hopping back up on my feet. Just then the voice says "Are you hurt?" with concerned tone. I shake my head. I look up and see a handsome face. 'Wow' I'm left speechless. Not like I wasn't before. The handsome man speaks up "Uh are you sure you're okay?" He asked one more time. I nod. "Whew. I'm glad." He says in relief and gives my the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. I melt. 'I better get going.' I start to turn around, hoping that was the end of that interaction. "W-wait !" I completely stop in my tracks surprised, still facing forward. Feels like a minute has pasted with him just staring at my back. 'Omg why did he tell me to stop I was hoping to leave on a good page now I can't' I complain. 'Do I turn around? Or is he going to go in front? WHAT DO I DO??' I freak out. FINALLY he walks in front of me. 'OH THANK U GOD!' He starts "You dropped your paper." He slowly hands it to me. 'oh my i would've been lost.' I grab it softly. (a/n: idk how to put it js know it wasn't hard) I give him a thanking smile. 'hopefully he gets the hint.' I take a step forward still trying to go to class. Then he talks "I saw you're a freshman." 'OH MY LORD MAN JUST LET ME GO TO CLASS' I crash out in my head. I nod. "I can show you to your first class if you want." He says. 'is he nice or is he a weirdo?' I nod with a slight shrug. "Okay lets go." He gives me another beautiful smile. 'well if he is a weirdo, god sure did bless him with the most perfect smile.' We walk side by side. He makes small talk, I listen with the occasional nod. 'wow bro is quite the yapper.' I nod to myself. "Oh right I forgot to introduce myself." I says slowing down his pace and eventually stopping looking at me. "My name is Jaehyun. Jaehyun Myung." I puts his hand forward. I shake his hand with MY hand shaking. I panic inside. 'WHAT? NO! WHAT DO I DO CUZ I AM NOT BREAKING MY MEW STREAK FOR THIS FINE MAN.' I take out my schedule paper and point to the top of the paper. Confused he bends down a little so he can read the paper. "Mercy Luni?" He asks tilting his head a bit. I nod. "What a very pretty name." He looks up smiling. I feel the blood rushing to my cheeks and turn my head away. "Wait." He looks like he figured out something. "Your last name is Luni?" 'oh no please don't tell me-' Unable to finish my thought Jaehyun shouts "YOU'RE ASTER'S SISTER?" I groan. 'noo i thought no one would know.' I nod with a defeat expression. "Oh sorry I didn't mean to embarrass you." He says rubbing the back his neck. "It's just he's a really cool guy and so far you seem cool too." 'aw sweet guy' I give him an understanding and let out a small giggle. He gives me a shocked looked and gives me another smile with a giggle. "Let's continue." He says starting to walk forward. He continues to talk on the way and I continue to listen. We reach my classroom and I check my phone for the time. '8:50 am. 9 minutes till class starts. Oh will he make it to class on time?' We both stand to the side of the door and I go to my notes app typing something. He looks confused but doesn't question what I am doing. Once I finish I show him my screen which reads.
'Are you going to make it to class on time?'
He smiles and gives me a nod. "Yea, I'm good I know my way around here."He pats my head. 'what the filp. Shocked. Speechless. S-scared. I look up at him with a confused expression. He gives me his final breathtaking smile and says "Well I should get going now that you're here." While pointing at my first period class door. I nod with a smile and waving him bye. He begins to walk backwards and faces himself forward. Watching his talk figure descend into the hallway I turn to face my class when I hear a sudden squeak. I turn my head to where the noise came from and see Jaehyun's figure standing still. 'what the?' I was about to ignore it until Jaehyun had turned around and was heading towards me once again. I look behind me trying to see if he was going to someone else around me but see no one. 'wait please don't tell me he is-' Once again unable to finish my thought when Jaehyun says "If it's okay with you can I have your number?" He says fidgeting with his phone. I tilt my head in confusion and furrow my eyebrows together. "N-no not for anything weird-" He stops and takes a deep breath. "I just think you're really cool and ihopewecanbefriends" (i hope we can be friends) He blurts out fast. Stunned. I look at him and nod. He lets out a sigh of relief and hands me his phone. I proceed to type my information in and hand back his phone. He smiles and thanks me. Now he leaves while waving me goodbye. 'i guess he really is a sweet guy' I turn to face my class once more before stepping in. 'and i guess this is really happening' I take a deep breath in and step forward into my class while taking a deep breath out. 'now or never'

Mercy's POV
I step into class and scan the room. 'oh wow' Stunned. There is only 4 people in class not including me. 'is THAT the teacher?' Looking at the only adult figure in the room. 'not what i was expecting' A 6'0 male looking to be in his mid-twenties with black hair neatly combed. Interrupted with my thought my phone buzzes in my hand. Before I take a look at it I search for an empty seat. I take a seat in the middle of the room but more towards the wall. I get my stuff situated at my desk and I dig through my backpack for a paper. 'aw man i hope i brought. i remember putting it in here though,' I anxiously search through my bag. 'A-HA! nice i knew i did.' I happily pull out a piece of paper. And start to walk to the teacher. 'hopefully he understands if not then im going to kill myself' I stand in front of the teacher's desk. He is busy writing something on his notebook, so I wait to the side of his desk waiting for him to finish whatever he is doing. After a minute he finally looks up and notices me standing waiting for him. "Oh hello do you need something from me?" He asks in such a polite tone. I nod a little. He puts down his pen and gives me his full attention. "Okay what's up?" I slowly give him the piece of paper I was searching for. He takes it and reads it over. I stand there not knowing whether I should go back to my seat or wait till he finishes reading it. I stay standing there. It takes him a while to read the whole paper. Once he's finished reading it he looks up at me and just nods. Taken aback I nod back to him and go back to my desk.Â
"Give this to your teacher and it will explain everything. Even though we told the office this will further explain." Mom says handing me the piece of paper. I nod taking the paper from my mothers hand. I put it in my bag. I take out a blank sheet of paper along with a pen. On the paper I write, 'Does it talk about me being mute?' Mom sighs, "Yes, it does." I nod once and grab my backpack putting it on.Â
*RING**RING**RING*
The school bell rings pulling me out of my trance. People start filing into the class and going into empty desks. I pull out my phone from my pocket finally responding to the notification.Â
'what the filp?' I look at text with confusion and fear. 'who got my number?' I look at it more closely. 'wait is aster playing another prank on me? oh he is so dead now.' I began to start typing angrily.
'read? that was so quick.' I think for a moment. 'a little too quick.' Suspicious. I begin to type again. And as soon as I finish typing another reply comes in.
'WHAT?' I tighten my grip on my phone. 'NO I FORGOT' I turn off my phone in embarrassment and put my head down. I turn my head to face the wall. 'now he thinks a weirdo. i cant ever talk to that man again.' I whine in my head.Â
*tap* *tap* *tap*
I quickly pick up my head and look forward. "Class is starting already. Are you awake?' Mr. Gruff taps my desk. I nod while looking at him. A few people stifle their laughs. I feel my cheeks heat up, I quickly look down at my desk. 'dang it' Mr. Gruff claps, "Alright class! Welcome to your first period and first day of high school." He stands in front of the class scanning everyone. I look around the class looking at my new classmates. And seeing mixed emotions on peoples faces. Some excited, some nervous, and some sleeping? 'what the flip i wasnt even sleeping and he called me out but he wont call out those how are ACTUALLY sleeping. it must be because im a woman.' I think half joking. While looking around I see a couple of people already talking to each other. 'wow that was quick.' Then suddenly the door opens and a handsome looking man walks in. 'oh my lord.' I lock eyes with him but as soon as he looks at me, he look away. "Sorry for my tardiness sir." The handsome boy says apologetic. "It's okay I understand. After all it's the first day. Can't expect you to know every class when you're new." Mr Gruff says patting the boys shoulder. "Now go sit in an empty seat." He point to all the empty desk. "Okay. Thank you sir." The boy says. He takes a moment to scan the class and he once again locks eyes with me. Stunned. I quickly look away hoping no one saw. He smiles and walks towards my direction. 'NO WHAT THE FLIP IS HE DOING? I DONT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE.' I close my eyes for a second. Once I open them he's standing right in front of me. I flinch. He laughs, taking the seat in the row next to me. "Hi" He smiles. 'oh my what a nice smile.' I smile back, facing the front of the class. 'please please dont say anything else to me.' I pray in my mind. All of a sudden I feel a tap on my shoulder. 'NOOO LET ME LIVE IN PEACE T-T.' I turn to him. "What's your name?" He asks sweetly. 'SHOOT WHAT DO I KNOW?? OH I KNOW.' I pull out a blank piece of paper and write, 'Mercy.' I hand it to him. He takes it confused and reads it. "Oh what a beautiful name." He holds the paper and smiles at me. I take back the paper and write, 'What about u?' I give him the paper again. "My name is Leehan." 'what a pretty name.'

Mercy's POV
The light shines through the curtains. I struggle to open my eyes. I groan thinking 'I still want to sleep' and slowly sit up on my bed. I stretch as I sit at the edge of the bed. I let out a sigh as I stand up, I start to walk to the bathroom. I open my bedroom door and squint from the sudden bright light from the hallway. I reach the bathroom door as I hear another door opening. I turn around and see the devil himself, Aster. He looks as he's about to tackle me if I don't hurry inside the bathroom. I quickly go inside the bathroom and close the door, as I close the door I hear a thud. 'HA! serves him right' I think to myself as I smirk. I do my bathroom routine ignoring the pounding on the door with the occasional yelling. "HURRY UP MERCY YOU'VE BEEN IN THERE FOR AN HOUR ALREADY!" Aster yells. 'Liar it's only been 20 minutes' I think as I look at the time on my phone. 'Oh well I'm already done' I shrug. I open the door to see an angry looking Aster, as I look at him I stick out my tongue in a mocking way and hurry into my room. "YOU'RE SUCH A BUTT CY (sea)!" He yells as he hurries into the bathroom. 'That nickname. Why did he go with that?' I question rolling my eyes. I do my morning routine well listing to my soft playlist. Once I'm done I go downstairs to the kitchen to greet my mom, who's usually making breakfast. I walk in the kitchen and my mom spots me and pulls me into the biggest bear hug ever, 'she might be shorter but she is the strongest person ever' I think into the hug. I pull away softly and smile at her, she cups my face "Aw my sweet baby I can't believe you're already in high school." Tears are slowly going down her face, I frown at her sad state and pull her into a tight hug. And give her an understanding smile while wiping her tears away, I give her a small kiss on her cheek. I go sit down at the table eating a waffle and drink orange juice. Suddenly I hear booming footsteps and look towards the stairs to see bigfoot himself, Aster. I quickly try to finish my breakfast before Aster eat everything in his sight even if I'm eating. As he finishes his food (and even some of mine but whatever) and he says "You ready chicken butt?" I roll my eyes and nod, I go to hug my mom bye. Aster and I head to his car, once we get in he asks me "Are you ready for your first day of high school?" I slowly nod and a nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach. He chuckles "I know you're nervous but you're going to be fine. High school isn't as bad as everyone says it is." I giggle and sigh a breath of relief, nodding with confidence now. It was the longest but somehow the shortest 15 minute car ride. Aster parks and gets out. I let out a shaky breath as I slowly get out the car. 'Well no going back now.' Looking at the school with my fake confidence.

Warnings: Ghosting (if it counts ??), cold shoulders from both Franco and Y/n over the summer break, realizations
Note: Ohmygod we are almost done with the series đ„č Time really flies but Iâm so glad I started this smau as a way to kickstart my F1 blog. Thank you guys for the continuous support as always and donât forget to like + reblog!
DRS Masterlist. (PREV./NEXT.)
@thepaddockqueen y/nâs whole vibe during this break is NEXT LEVEL but like... where's franco? i thought they'd be a package deal by now, even though vegas says otherwise
@tracksidevibes is it just me or did y/n and franco go from this đ€ close to literally no posts? sheâs living her best life though but still⊠kinda odd
@f1fanatic_ okay but like⊠whereâs franco? y/n has been lowkey glowing after vegas but they're barely together?? kinda sus đ€š
The cool Monaco night wraps around you as you sit at a cozy table in a dimly lit bar, surrounded by a few of your closest friendsâJade, Kika, and Alex.
Tonight, it's just the four of you, trying to enjoy the quiet after the chaos of the summer break, and the drama surrounding you and Franco after Vegas.
The low hum of chatter and clinking glasses fills the air, but you feel the weight of a question coming. Itâs been the same one for weeks, and you know itâs only a matter of time before someone asks.
âSo," Jade begins, her voice playful but tinged with curiosity, "you and Franco still, like... doing the thing?"
She takes a sip of her wine, raising an eyebrow as if the answer is something sheâs dying to hear.
You let out a quiet laugh, feeling the familiar tension rise in your chest.
Ever since the Las Vegas GP, things between you and Franco had shifted in ways no one really saw coming.
There were whispers online, fans asking why the two of you werenât together anymore, and you felt the weight of all their speculation, especially when you barely interacted anymore.
You glance at Kika and Alex, both watching you with the same knowing look. Theyâve seen it all before.
âI donât even know anymore," you mutter, shrugging. "It was never supposed to be real, you know?"
Kika, whoâs been quiet up until now, leans forward, her eyes narrowing playfully.
"Oh, we know it wasnât real. But you two were so convincing!" She chuckles, glancing over at Jade.
"I mean, I was ready to start planning the wedding for you both after Singapore. Seriously. You had us all fooled."
You shake your head with a small smile, but it feels more like a grimace.
"It was way too convincing, right? Thatâs the problem. It wasnât real, but we made it look like it was. And I think I got caught up in the moment. At first, I thought it was harmless, but after Vegas... I donât know. Everything just felt off."
Alex, ever the quiet one at the table, finally speaks up.
"What happened in Vegas? You two were all over each other before, and then it was like... poofânothing. Was it something specific that went down?"
You hesitate. The memory of that weekend still stings, the awkwardness between you and Franco palpable, even if the public never noticed it. Though, you digress.
"Vegas was where everything started to feel wrong," you admit, your voice softer now.
"We fought on the phone because rumors of him being with another woman had surfaced. After that, we both just... drifted. I donât think we even knew how to act around each other anymore. It was so much pressure, and it started feeling suffocating to us."
Jade tilts her head, a sad smile playing on her lips.
"Iâll hurt him for even thinking of going off with some other woman. Y/n, you didnât deserve that, the way he treated you and the way he never thought of how it would affect and humiliate you. Fake dating or not, itâs still a low blow,â
âI know," you reply with a sigh.
"But it was exhausting to deal with the mess. At first, I thought it was something fun, but then it felt like we were trapped in a script, and neither of us was happy. We barely spoke after that weekend. I think we both realized it wasnât working, well mostly me because Iâ actually started having real feelings for him, but I didn't know how to step away without everyone noticing."
Kika, whoâs always the one to give it to you straight, raises an eyebrow.
"The fans are still buzzing about it, though. Iâve seen a ton of posts asking what happened. People are practically creating conspiracy theories, like âDid Franco and Y/N break up?â âWhere's Franco been?â and all that. Itâs kind of wild."
You laugh, but itâs more out of exasperation than amusement.
âItâs crazy, right? I mean, I get itâtheyâve invested so much in us, but it feels like weâre still living in this story that weâre both tired of. And now, no matter what I post or donât post, theyâre going to speculate."
Alex shakes her head, her voice full of that knowing sympathy.
"The fans will never let you off the hook, but honestly, babe, I think youâre better off without the drama. The whole thing was a mess from the start. You donât need to pretend for anyone. We all know youâve got enough on your plate."
âThanks, Alex," you smile, appreciating the support.
"Itâs just been a lot, you know? Like, I kept thinking I was doing the right thing, but now I see how wrong it all was."
Jadeâs eyes soften as she places her glass down.
"Honestly, I think you dodged a bullet. Youâre too amazing to be wrapped up in a fake relationship for the fansâ sake, and for Franco to humiliate you like that. Itâs just unnecessary drama."
You nod, feeling lighter with each word.
"Yeah, I just need to move on from all of it. The pressure, the expectationsâit was never about what I actually wanted. And now, Iâm just... ready for things to be real again, even if that means stepping away from it all."
Kika grins, her tone teasing. "So, no more playing the âfake girlfriendâ game with any other F1 drivers then?"
You roll your eyes, the humor lifting your spirits for a moment.
"Definitely not. If I ever do that again, someone can slap me."
Alex raises her glass with a grin. "To no more fake relationships, and to keeping things real from now on."
You all laugh, the mood shifting to something much lighter as the weight of the last few months begins to melt away.
The fans might keep wondering what happened between you and Franco, but for now, you're done with the drama. And thatâs enough for you.

Franco sits alone in his dimly lit room at home in Argentina, the soft hum of the air conditioning the only sound breaking the silence.
His fingers hover over his phone screen, but his eyes remain locked on the glowing display.
He canât stop himself from scrolling, from seeking out the posts, the stories, the pictures that capture youâonly now, it feels like he's watching someone elseâs life, not the one he used to share with you.
The latest photo catches his breath. There you are, framed perfectly in the soft light of Monacoâs famous streets, laughing with your friends.
The caption beneath reads, "where my heart finds peace" He watches as you lean into Lily, the two of you sharing some inside joke, your eyes sparkling in a way that used to belong only to him.
His stomach churns as he zooms in, looking at the way you carry yourself now, carefree, a version of yourself he never got the chance to truly know.
He swipes to the next story, and there you are againâboarding a yacht, Lando and Carlosâ arm wrapped you as you three gaze out at the sparkling Mediterranean Sea.
Another photo follows, this time youâre in a lavish cafĂ©, smiling at the camera as your friends clink glasses around you.
The words "mind and healing" keep popping up, over and over. He can almost hear your voice in his head, carefree, as if he never existed in your world.
His fingers tighten around the phone, anger and regret boiling inside him.
How did this happen? How did he get so lost in the shuffle of it all? Was it the distance? The misunderstandings? Or had he simply taken you for granted?
Franco doesnât know, but the pain of seeing you so happy, so free, while heâs left with nothing but memories, is unbearable.
He leans back, staring at the ceiling, frustration mounting.
The phone buzzes in his handâa text message from his agent. He ignores it, opting instead to swipe back to your feed.
The next post is a short video, and in it, youâre laughing as Lando and Alex attempt to teach you how to dance, your movements light and carefree.
The sound of your laughterâso genuine, so full of lifeâhits him like a punch to the gut.
âI thought we would become something real," he mutters under his breath, the words tasting bitter on his tongue.
Suddenly, a memory flashes in his mind.
Itâs of youâyour soft voice, your teasing smile, the way you would always brush his hair out of his eyes when you thought he was too serious.
He remembers the quiet moments, the late-night talks when everything felt possible, when the world was just the two of you. How naive heâd been, thinking it would last forever without the commitment.
Franco finds himself typing something, then immediately deleting it. He types again, but his fingers falter over the keys, unsure of what he even wants to say anymore.
Finally, he stares at the blank text box and closes the app.
What could he say to you now? How could he explain that he didnât realize what he had until it was too late? That all the things he took for grantedâthe way you cared for him, the way you were always thereâhe never truly understood them until he saw you living a life without him. Without even a glance back.
A new post from you flashes on the screenâa video of you tossing your head back in laughter because of Charles and Carlos.
His heart sinks.
The woman in the photo looks nothing like the one he once knewâthe one who would call him on quiet nights, the one who would share her deepest thoughts.
This version of you seems... unreachable. Far away in a world of glitz and glamour. A world heâll never be a part of again.
Franco can almost hear your voice now, soft but distant, as if you were speaking to him from another life.
"Why do you care so much about who Iâm with? We arenât even dating, Franco,â
He closes his eyes, trying to drown out the memory of your voice, but it lingers, mocking him.
"You never fought for me," he whispers to the empty room, his heart heavy with the weight of regret.
And as he stares at your picture once more, he realizes just how deeply heâs lost you.
Thereâs no going back.
Youâre gone, living your life without him, and thereâs nothing he can do to change that.
Franco tosses the phone onto the bed, the screen still glowing with your presence. He swallows hard, but it doesnât help. The truth is, heâs never felt more alone.
The cabin glowed like a beacon of warmth against the chilly autumn evening.
Outside, the forest was painted in rich hues of amber, crimson, and gold, leaves scattered across the winding path that had led you all here.
A crisp breeze rustled through the trees, carrying the faint scent of pine and wood smoke.
Inside, the crackling fire provided a cozy backdrop to the sounds of laughter spilling from the living room, where Max, Pietra, and the rest of the group were engrossed in a heated card game.
But you had sought refuge in the kitchen, the noise feeling a bit too much tonight.
The space smelled of cinnamon, apples, and sugar, the telltale signs of an attempt to bake something seasonal.
Lando had joined you not long after, claiming he was âcurious about the process,â though his clumsy attempts at mixing ingredients suggested otherwise.
âSeriously, who decided baking was fun?â Lando grumbled, glaring at the sticky mass clinging to the spoon in his hand.
He had flour smeared across his sweatshirt, a streak of it on his jaw where heâd scratched at his face absentmindedly.
âYou volunteered, remember?â you replied, a soft smile tugging at your lips as you carefully measured out cinnamon into a small bowl.
âAnd besides, itâs supposed to be fun. Youâre just overthinking it.â
âThatâs rich coming from you,â he shot back, smirking. âYouâve been lost in your own head all day.â
His words stopped you mid-motion, and you glanced up to find him watching you, his brows knit with concern.
You opened your mouth to deflect, to tell him you were fine, but the way his eyes softened made you pause.
Lando had this way of seeing through you, of knowing when something was wrong even when you thought you were hiding it well.
âItâs nothing,â you murmured, focusing back on your task. âIâm fine.â
He set the bowl down with a decisive clatter and crossed his arms, leaning against the counter.
âCome on, Y/N. I know that look. Somethingâs bothering you.â
You hesitated, the weight of the past week pressing down on you again. Your hands stilled over the dough youâd been rolling out, and for a moment, the only sound in the kitchen was the faint hum of the oven preheating.
âItâs Franco,â you said finally, your voice barely audible.
Landoâs expression shifted immediately, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face before he nodded. âWhat about him?â
You took a deep breath, the words tumbling out before you could second-guess yourself.
âWe had this⊠arrangement, you know? Fake dating, no strings attached. It was supposed to be easy. No pressure, no expectations. But Iââ You stopped, your throat tightening.
âYou caught feelings,â Lando finished for you, his tone gentle.
You nodded, avoiding his gaze. âYeah. And I thought⊠I thought maybe he did too. He started acting differentlyâmore thoughtful, more... I donât know, affectionate. I let myself believe it was real.â
Lando stayed quiet, letting you get the words out at your own pace.
âBut then, a few days after the Brazil Grand Prix, I saw videos of him circulating on twitter,â you continued, your voice trembling.
âHe was with someone else. They were laughing, touching, and he didnât even try to hide it. Like what we had meant nothing.â
You looked up then, blinking back the sting of tears.
âI feel so stupid, Lando. I knew what this was, but it still hurt. And now I canât stop thinking about how I let myself get so caught up in something that was never real.â
For a moment, Lando didnât say anything. He just looked at you, his blue eyes filled with a mix of sympathy and frustrationânot at you, but at the situation.
Finally, he pushed off the counter and stepped closer, his voice firm but kind.
âY/N, listen to me. Youâre not stupid. You cared about someone, and you let yourself be vulnerable. Thatâs not stupidâthatâs brave. And if he didnât see how incredible you are, then thatâs his loss, not yours.â
You swallowed hard, his words sinking in. âBut I shouldâve known better. I shouldâveââ
âNo,â Lando interrupted gently, his voice steady.
âDonât do that. Donât blame yourself for feeling something real. Heâs the one who messed up, not you. And honestly? If he couldnât appreciate you, then he didnât deserve you in the first place.â
You let out a shaky breath, his words chipping away at the knot of doubt in your chest. âYou really think that?â
âI know that,â he said with conviction. âAnd if you ever need someone to remind you, Iâll be here. Always.â
The sincerity in his voice made your throat tighten, and for a moment, all you could do was nod.
âThanks, Lando,â you murmured, a faint smile breaking through the heaviness in your chest.
âAnytime,â he said, his grin returning. âNow, letâs finish these cookies before Max comes in here and accuses us of sabotaging dessert.â
You laughed softly, the sound feeling lighter than it had in days.
Together, you returned to the task at hand, the weight of your emotions lessened by Landoâs steady presence.
The cabin mightâve been chilly outside, but in this kitchen, surrounded by the smells of autumn and the warmth of genuine friendship, you felt a little closer to healing.

@f1dramaqueen wait a minute, y/n has been with mclaren all weekend, and franco hasnât been by her side once?? whatâs going on there?? đł why is she hanging out with them instead of him?
As you scroll through your phone, you canât avoid the buzz around youâanother post from one of the gossip pages, this time with a headline that hits you in a way you werenât prepared for: âDid Franco Cheat on Y/N? Fans Speculate After Heâs Spotted with Another Woman Post-Brazil GP.â
Your thumb stills on the screen, eyes narrowing as you read through the comments. Most of the fans are speculating wildly, asking if you and Franco have broken up or if there was some truth to the rumors.
Theyâre piecing together the evidence from the Brazil Grand Prix, where he was photographed with a woman that isnât youâsupposedly a âmystery woman.â
The timing couldnât have been worse, with you and Franco having barely spoken all weekend. The atmosphere between you two has been tense, almost suffocating, with nothing but cold indifference when you cross paths after the encounter at the McLaren hospitality.
The worst part? Youâre still stuck in the middle of this fake dating charade. You agreed to it, sure. It seemed harmless at the timeâjust a way to keep the fans entertained and give Franco some space from his own public relations mess. But now, you canât shake the feeling that youâve made a massive mistake.
âCan you believe this?â Elena asks, leaning in to look at your screen. You quickly swipe it away, your stomach twisting. You don't want to deal with it right now. Not with her. Not with anyone.
âIâm sure itâs nothing,â you reply, your voice flat. You know thatâs a lie. Itâs everything.
Elena eyes you suspiciously. âYou donât look convinced.â
You glance over at the Williams garage, trying to distract yourself. But there, at the edge of the crowd, stands Franco.
Heâs not looking your way. He hasnât all weekend. You havenât spoken to him directly since Friday, and the silence between you two is deafening.
âI donât get it,â Elena continues, oblivious to your discomfort. âWhy are you still doing this? All of this fake dating nonsense. He clearly isnât treating you like someone whoâs âin a relationship.ââ
Her words sting more than you expected. Youâve tried to bury the doubt, tell yourself that it doesnât matter. It was just business, a little stunt to keep the media off your backs and for fun, since you werenât looking for anything serious.
But now, as you watch Franco interact with everyone else around himâlike thereâs no underlying tension, like thereâs no weight to your shared historyâit all starts to feel utterly foolish.
You glance back at the screen of your phone, the comments still coming in fast, asking if you and Franco are still together, if you know the woman he was spotted with, or if this is all just a cover-up.
Your mind spins, and your heart clenches, realizing that what was once supposed to be a simple solution to a complicated situation has turned into a mess. A mess you donât know how to clean up.
Elenaâs voice pulls you out of your thoughts. âY/N, you donât need this. You donât need him. If he really cared, heâd be here talking to you instead of hanging around with everyone else like everythingâs normal. I know we all thought this would be in good fun, but you actually started developing feelings for him,â
You want to agree with her. You want to feel strong, empowered. But instead, you just feel... empty. It was never supposed to feel like this.
You catch a glimpse of Franco again, still at the edge of the crowd. His gaze flickers your way, but as soon as your eyes meet, he looks away.
A bitter taste forms in your mouth as you think back to the last time you spokeâhow forced it felt, how nothing had been resolved between you two.
The worst part? You feel like youâve been left out of your own life. Your relationship with Franco, whatever it was supposed to be, now feels like itâs crumbling into something you canât recognize.
Elena presses on, more insistently now, âAre you really going to keep pretending this is fine?â
You look at her, unsure of how to answer. The truth is, you donât know what youâre doing anymore. The idea of a fake relationship seemed like an easy fix, but now itâs only made everything harder.
âI think Iâve made a mistake,â you admit quietly, more to yourself than anyone else. âI think agreeing to this was stupid.â
Elena doesn't push you further, but the silence lingers. You look at Franco one last time, wondering how long heâll keep pretending too. And just like that, you realize youâve been holding on to something that never had a solid foundation. The pieces of your fake relationship, the rumors, and now the betrayalâyouâre done.
Youâre finally ready to let go. At least thatâs what you told yourself, because whatâs the point of holding onto something that never existed?
As the last night of the race weekend progressed, Lando and you start spending more time together, both naturally slipping into a comfortable rhythm.
Heâs easy to talk to, always quick with a joke or an offhand comment to make you laugh.
You find yourself gravitating toward him without even realizing it, a distraction from the awkward tension thatâs been hanging around ever since Franco pulled away.
Earlier that night, as youâre sitting on the pit wall, Lando casually leans against the barrier beside you, watching the teams prepare for the race in a few hours.
His eyes flick over to you, catching the way youâve been fidgeting with your phone, checking messages that youâre probably not too happy with.
âYou know, I always wondered what itâd be like to be the one in the spotlight,â Lando says, glancing at you with a mischievous glint in his eye. âBut now that Iâm here, I think it might just be overrated. You guys are always under so much pressure.â
You smile slightly, appreciating his attempt to lighten the mood. âOh, yeah? You should try it sometimeâone day in my shoes, and youâll be running for the hills.â Lando laughs, nudging your arm playfully.
âI donât think Iâd make it. I like my peace too much. I donât think I could do the whole âall eyes on meâ thing. Itâs like, thereâs always someone watching, you know?â
You chuckle, shaking your head. âTrust me, I get it. It's not all glamorous. You get so used to it, though. Or you just... learn how to turn it off.â
âYouâre good at it, though,â Lando says, his voice a little softer now. âYou always seem so calm, like youâve got it all under control.â
For a moment, you look at him, surprised by the sincerity in his tone. You could have sworn you saw a flicker of something deeper behind his words.
âI try to,â you reply, trying to deflect, but his expression is warm, genuine. âBut honestly? I think Iâm just good at faking it.â
Lando shakes his head, a smirk playing on his lips. âI doubt that. Youâre a lot more than just a pretty face and a calm exterior.â
Before you can respond, thereâs a sudden tension in the air, a feeling that someoneâs watching. You glance up, and across the pit, you catch sight of Francoâhis eyes are locked onto you and Lando.
You quickly look away, but not before noticing the slight twitch in Francoâs jaw. Lando notices, too.
âSomething wrong?â he asks quietly, his voice more serious now.
âNo,â you say quickly, your heart suddenly racing, âjust... nothing.â
Lando raises an eyebrow, but he doesnât push further. Heâs smart enough to know when to let it go.
âAlright, if you say so. But, hey, if you ever need someone to talk to, or just... hang out and do something non-race related for once, Iâm your guy.â
You give him a grateful smile, feeling the weight of everything lifting just a little. âIâll keep that in mind, Lando.â
The two of you share a brief, understanding silence, both knowing exactly what the other is talking about. For a moment, it feels like the world has stopped spinning, just long enough for you to catch your breath.
As you watch Franco in the distance, you canât help but feel a strange mix of relief and regret.
On his end, Franco leans against the garage wall, his eyes trained on you and Lando, though he tries to keep his expression neutral.
Heâs been trying to focus on his own pre-race preparations, but the sight of you so effortlessly chatting with the McLaren driver gnaws at him.
He clenches his jaw, trying to ignore the dull, simmering feeling in his chest. He should be used to thisâseeing you interact with other drivers is part of the territory.
But today, with the tension between you both hanging thicker than ever, it feels different.
Landoâs laughter rings in his ears, and for a split second, he canât stand the way your eyes light up as you respond to him, like youâre truly enjoying the moment.
Franco takes a deep breath, his hand curling into a fist. He tries to tell himself itâs nothing, that heâs overthinking it. But itâs hard to shake the sudden, bitter thought that maybe heâs lost something precious.
Heâs not blind. Heâs seen the way Lando has been around you latelyâlike heâs trying to be there for you in a way that Franco hasnât been. And, hell, maybe heâs even started to wonder if thatâs exactly what you need now.
Someone whoâs actually there, not hiding behind excuses or pretending everything is fine when itâs far from it.
Franco shifts his weight, his gaze flicking to you as Lando leans in closer, something passing between the two of you thatâs both easy and intimate.
He canât help but notice how youâre laughing, how your face softens around him.
Itâs the same kind of laughter you used to share with him, the kind that made him think he was the only one who could make you feel that way.
Except now, itâs Lando, and that thought stings more than heâs willing to admit.
A wave of frustration rises in him, followed by an unsettling feeling of loss. Itâs not just jealousy, not just the nagging thought that maybe youâve moved on.
Itâs the realization that maybe, after everything thatâs happened between the two of you, itâs too late for him to even try and make it right.
The worst part? He canât even tell if heâs angry at you for letting it go or at himself for letting it slip through his fingers.
He forces himself to look away, but itâs like he canât escape the image of you and Lando standing there, talking, laughing, completely at ease.
A part of him wants to march over there, pull you aside, and demand to know what the hellâs going on.
But another part of him knows that itâs not his place anymore. Not when heâs the one who put distance between you both, not when heâs the one who let his own damn fear dictate everything.
As he watches you walk off, heading toward the paddock with Lando still by your side, a bitter taste lingers in his mouth. He should be focusing on the race, but all he can think about is how much he regrets not facing his feelings for you sooner.
The night was in full swing, with the music pulsing through the club and laughter echoing around the room.
The other drivers, their partners, and a handful of influencers and celebrities mingled in the dimly lit space, all wrapped up in the excitement of the event.
You were chatting with Lando, your smile wide as you joked about something that had happened earlier in the day.
The two of you shared an easy camaraderie, and the ease with which you laughed together didnât go unnoticed.
Franco stood at the edge of the room, nursing a drink in his hand, his gaze drawn to where you and Lando were standing. He couldnât help it. Every time you smiled, every time you laughed, something inside him tightened.
It wasnât just the jealousyâthough that was certainly part of itâit was the nagging feeling that he was missing something. That he was not supposed to feel like this.
His eyes flicked over to Elena, who had been watching him quietly for the past few minutes. She caught his eye and gave him a look that spoke volumes.
Without missing a beat, she approached him, her steps sure, and leaned in slightly, close enough for only him to hear.
"Youâre really into her, arenât you?" Elenaâs tone was playful, but there was an underlying seriousness to it.
Franco glanced back at you and Lando, his gaze lingering for just a moment too long. He opened his mouth to speak, but the words didnât come.
Instead, he took another sip of his drink, trying to shake off the feeling that had settled in his chest.
Elena raised an eyebrow. âItâs okay, you know. You donât have to pretend itâs nothing. Youâve been staring at her all night.â
âIâm not staring,â Franco muttered, though he couldnât stop looking at you, laughing with Lando like nothing in the world mattered.
âYou canât keep playing this game, Franco,â Elena pressed, her tone shifting. âYouâre not fooling anyone. Least of all yourself.â
Francoâs jaw tightened. âIâm not playing any game,â he said quickly, but even to his own ears, it sounded like a lie.
His frustration rose, but it was paired with something else. Something he didnât want to admit.
âThen why does it bother you so much to see her with him?â Elenaâs voice softened, but her eyes were keen. She was getting to the heart of it, and Franco didnât like it one bit.
He exhaled sharply, his gaze once again finding you in the crowd. You looked so carefree, so at ease, and yet all he felt was a gnawing discomfort.
Was this what he really wanted? Why did he care so much about who you were with?
Franco turned away, his grip tightening around his glass. âIt doesnât matter,â he muttered, but the words lacked conviction.
âItâs just... this whole thing. Itâs just fake dating. Nothing more.â
But Elenaâs gaze didnât let him off the hook. She watched him carefully, and though she didnât say a word, the unspoken truth was clear: Franco was fooling no oneâleast of all himself.
As the night wore on, Franco found himself lost in his thoughts, unable to shake the feeling that something had shifted.
Watching you laugh with Lando, the way your eyes sparkled when you talked to him, made something inside him ache.
It was as if he had been living in a world where nothing matteredâand then suddenly, it all did.
He wasnât ready to admit it, not yet, but it was becoming harder to ignore: he wanted more than what this fake relationship had turned into.
But for now, all he could do was watch from a distance, torn between wanting to be the one to make you smile and the cold reality that, for now, he was nothing more than a background character in your world.
