White ibis sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing.
My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch.
The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations.

White Ibis and Great Egret
This great egret and juvenile white ibis were at a pond in Georgia, November 2022.
"White Ibises gather in groups in shallow wetlands and estuaries in the southeastern United States. At each step, their bright red legs move through the water and their curved red bill probes the muddy surface below. As adults, these striking wading birds are all white save for their black wingtips but watch out for young birds that are brown above and white below. White Ibises nest in colonies in trees and shrubs along the water's edge, changing locations nearly every year." - allaboutbirds.org

The White Ibis is a staple bird of Florida and historically one of the most abundant wading birds in North America. Usually found foraging in the shallows along lakes, ponds, and streams, the White Ibis feeds on small crustaceans and insects.

As with most wading birds, the destruction of wetlands is the primary threat to these animals, as the expansion of housing developments increase in the state, added focus on wetland management, and regulation of building limits is required. Since 1950, the Miami area tide gauge has registered an increase in sea level by 8.59 inches. Without the state's wetlands, Florida would experience severe flooding and habitat loss.

"THE FLORIDA PANTHER AND WHITE IBIS:
A story of successful land conservation and scientific intervention"
by Chaya
Born in Miami and now living on Florida's Space Coast, Chaya Av creates colorful and free-flowing work heavily influenced by natural organic forms. In addition to creating work for galleries and corporate clients her spontaneous stream-of-consciousness style is well suited to live painting at music festivals across the state. When Chaya was born there was widespread fear that the official state animal, the Florida Panther, would be extinct by 2017. When 2017 actually rolled around and Chaya was given an opportunity to paint this mural at Sam Flax art store on Colonial Dr in Orlando, she highlighted the hard work done to save the panther. Chaya also added the White Ibis, representing the danger and optimism in Native American folklore and as warning that we must continue to value and protect our wildlife. @chayaav_/ @samflaxorlando/
