Yeah, this is one of the lords of the area when you fight in Adrestia.
Also, during this attack, none of the named characters are killed. Like, if anyone chooses to surrender and/or flee, they're not hunted down and killed (in complete contrast to Dimtiri fleeing in SB in Ailell and Edelgard literally saying outright that they were going to hunt him down). The Kingdom army lets anyone go who stops fighting. So, for all this NPC lord's complaining, they're only killing people who won't stop fighting.
Mind you, that's pretty damn generous of them considering Adrestia's forces attacked them in the first place and yet they're still letting people surrender with their lives. The implication is that if someone came after them in the initial invasion of Faerghus, who was now in this area during this chapter's attack, and had every intent on killing them in their own home in that initial invasion, Dimitri was still willing to let them live if they surrendered here. It's literally "you attacked us first in our own home, but during our attack we won't pursue people who are no longer fighting".
That's the not innocent people, for the record. That's just the people who have been fighting/helping in the Empire's unprovoked invasion efforts. Evidently this lord thinks they're all innocent simply for being attacked in their home, despite that all these people were still involved in the first place.
Either that or this lord is just absolutely idiotic and is making shit up to convince themselves of a reason to fight. No innocents were targeted by the Kingdom army, but innocents were being killed by the Empire's army. Thales was spearheading the chaos, but it was the (also) Imperial army itself that was ransacking and burning villages.
They literally explain that the Empire's army is out of control, implying if not outright expressing that they have no discipline. Even without one's leader in charge to keep things together, if soldiers are going to pillage because there's no leader to stop them, that speaks to the morality of the army's soldiers and what they'd do if left to their own completely free devices. If Edelgard is out of commission, her soldiers will feel free to pillage and destroy. So basically, the people in the army themselves are corrupt, just as badly as TWS.
The burning of villages sounds like TWS, which I'm just guessing based on the Duscur. They didn't specify who it was who actually straight up burned the villages (of, you know, innocents), but I'd guess that part was Thales and Friends. Dimitri and Friends, meanwhile, are completely disgusted at the sight of, wouldn't you know it, innocent people being harmed like this and losing everything.
But well, sure, yeah, it's totally the Kingdom army who has been doing all this for months now even though they just got here. Mm. Yeah. Point blank accuracy.
lmao... imagine if someone could talk to edelgard this way
and also lol
how dare you guys come in and attack us after our emperor we we all loyally follow and fight for attacked you first! how dare you retaliate just because we haven't attacked you particularly recently! there's a warranty on invasions! if you don't retaliate in a certain window of time, you can't anymore! you have to wait until we attack you again!
#Three Hopes#yeah the game always tries to say ''well there's the Empire's side of things too!''#like yeah their side is just unprovoked invasion that's literally it#this game ALWAYS frames the Kingdom as ''we're doing a bad thing let's not forget that''#I actually have another post or two drafted where they do that AGAIN#while not bringing the topic up at all in SB or at least not even remotely on that scale#and GW gets it from Hapi mainly who complains about what Claude and his army are doing#but for the most part GW also gets to avoid the really bad things#it's only when the Kingdom army does something in /retaliation/ to having smth bad done to THEM#that it gets brought up as a now really bad thing that the Kingdom army is doing#it just sends a /really/ awful message overall and like I don't even know if the writers meant to do that so much as#they just like Edelgard so much that they want to paint her in as best a light as possible#and in so doing while writing the villain in such a positive light ended up with this mess of a message#like. yes. it is a message. a mess age of fire emblem history.

Hey, super sorry for bringing this type of thing to your tumblr but your current living situation (being in Florida and being trans) are reflective of what could potentially happen to me and you're the only person I know of who could possibly help. I'm currently in a long distance relationship with my gf who's in Orlando and we're getting to a point where we were considering moving in together until Florida started all of the bullshit it's currently doing. Her moving from Florida doesn't seem...possible at all if I'm being real while I work remotely and have much more flexibility. I literally haven't even started my transition medically yet but I'm weeks away from starting. Is there any way that I could move to Orlando despite all the bullshit happening and find care there or continue my care? Is it really as lost as it seems for now? I really really love my gf but as a previous Florida resident who swore I'd never touch the state again when I left BEFORE this bs the thought of moving back has me feeling like my only choices while being there would be to be closeted for my own safety. Again, sorry for bringing this topic to you but I'm in a really bad spot right now and don't know what to do...
Absolutely not. Do not come here, if you are trans and you are in Florida, leave. SB 254 was signed into law yesterday with immediate effect. Trans adults throughout the state are already having their HRT prescriptions denied at pharmacies because the prescription was from an NP, which SB 254 newly prohibits for gender-affirming care only, requiring an MD or DO to prescribe. At least 80% of trans people on HRT in Florida get it through an NP and this has been the case for recorded history up until now.
Again, in Florida, today, trans adults on long-term testosterone or estradiol prescriptions are now unable to get those prescriptions refilled and have practically no means now of accessing that medication due to the onerous regulations. This is the state of Florida forcibly detransitioning its residents of all ages. This is not just a trans youth care ban. Any trans person who needs healthcare in Florida is not safe. Do not come here.
Do not come to Florida.

It's good that @crepes-suzette-373 made this post because I've been wanting to voice my thoughts on this topic for a while. Iti's nothing new, but I personally find the concept of 恋/koi within the story very interesting, as I think it's the word chosen to convey Sanji's feelings for Nami deliberately. I don't think it's a topic up for debate as there's no much depth in it, but anyway, I want to post my ramblings on Sanji, how he feels about Nami and women and the perception others have for that.
恋/koi (love) as a concept is significant, and I think it will gain weight later in the story. After all, it has been heavily present from the beginning, since Sanji first mentioned it in Arlong Park, going to Hancock and Gloriosa referring to a famous East Blue's poem (Hancock's love for Luffy reminisced Gloriosa to the same love that former Amazon Lily's empresses developed), and even going through Chopper on SBS.
It's a concept that I doubt will fall on deaf ears, as in this post, I believe too that it will potentially have a significant role in the future, be it for Hancock or Sanji's side (or both).
And when it comes to Sanji, it's always been in relation to Nami (except for that one time in Dressrossa, but it was the time he fell for Viola's lies when she still pretended to be Violet).
Indeed, 恋 is exclusively romantic, and in fact I have seen some translators choose to translate it as “true love". Furthermore, it connotes “desire, longing, wanting” and refers specifically to the “falling in love” part of it.
But all of this, the part in which the author 'lets us know' that this is how Sanji feels for Nami and that's when he brings up this 'East Blue poem', that hasn't been worded by Sanji, at least yet.
Bear with me. Back in Punk Hazard, Sanji used ホレち/horechi (from verb 惚れる/horeru) which means “to fall in love”. And then, in WCI, as we already know, he does indeed use the verb 好き/suki when Nami hugs him. Compared to 恋/koi or 愛/ai, it is a much more relaxed and informal verb.
Funnily, much, much later in the story, in chapter 1005 during the Wano arc, when confronted to Black Maria, he says "I want to love all the ladies" and he uses the verb 愛したい/aishitai ('I want to love', literally). And then, in the most recent chapters, when he fights S-Shark to protect Nami, he says 愛の力/ai no chikara (the power of love). What's different from 恋/koi? Well, 恋 is used only for romantic feelings, while 愛 (which he used to refer to all the ladies) is not necessarily romantic. In fact, it refers to a kind of pure and selfless love.
So, maybe, maybe Sanji still has to have some development to know truly what kind of feelings he truly harbors, and learn what he really wants.
Further in the analysis (and I'm aware this is already a pretty cheesy post) I went on to know how others perceive Sanji's relationship with Nami.
In Thriller Bark, Absalom said 妙 に 執着/myō ni shūchaku (deep concern and attachment) to how the Penguin zombie, with Sanji's shadow, felt for Nami (that “he was strangely obsessed over her”). Later on, he says that Nami is "the woman he wanted to protect"/守りたかった.
In Gyojin Island, 過剰 に 反応/kajō ni hannō is said by Hody's pirates, which referred to him overreacting to attacks on Nami.
Robin brings attention to the topic in chapter 1078 by saying "if Nami screams, someone is gonna rush in instantly".
And let's not forget the most famous:
This is part of my reasoning and why I believe that Sanji, despite him being the one in love with Nami throughout all the story and it being an idea very present in the manga and the characters in it, might not have yet figured out how he feels and what he wants when it comes to women and love.
#one piece#one piece spoilers#one piece shipping#sanami#sanji x nami#sanji#nami#luffy x hancock#luhan#kinda i guess#'love is a hurricane' oda is cheesier than all of us™#i love japanese so i really enjoyed making this post#i'm grateful for posts and bloggers that are so active and good with posts and theories and analysis

One Last Surgery
Spring Break Shadowing Part 5.1
Carlisle Cullen x Reader
Word Count: 2,043
Summary: You finally find out the reason for going to the children’s hospital, but you’re more distracted than usual today and Dr. Cullen can tell.
A/N: Tell me why part 5 of SBS takes up over half of the whole series? I’ve had this sitting in my drafts for 5 months because I keep adding more to it smh. Now it’s too long so I’ve decided to split it up into 3 parts (in addition to parts 6 and 7). I’m making the final edits the rest of this part now - 5.2 should be posted in like two days.
Anyways, this is technically the beginning of #1 and #2 on my headcanon list.
Masterlist
XXX
Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital is only across the street from Doctor Cullen’s office, but it seems to take forever to get there. You trail the doctor like a lost puppy through a skyway and a series of corridors before eventually reaching the right building. Different is definitely an understatement.
Gone are the linoleum-tiled floors, the abstract paintings lining the hallways, and the stark white walls. Instead, there are bright colors everywhere you look. Artwork featuring various galaxies and planets scatter throughout the hospital, and giant stars are imprinted along the floors; even the whole atmosphere just feels different.
You don’t get much time to analyze the differences though. Doctor Cullen is wasting no time to reach the destination, and his long legs aren’t making it any easier to keep up.
“Not that I don’t like surprises, but any chance you can tell me what we’re doing in the children’s hospital now?”
“Impatient, are we?” Doctor Cullen chuckles. He stops at an elevator and pushes the up button, only giving into your question once he catches a glimpse of your pout. “Alright, you win. Are you familiar with a cleft palate or cleft lip?”
The elevator dings, the doors sliding open with it. You shake your head no and get on the elevator with him. He presses the button for the floor and then leans against the wall, arms outstretched on the handrail, and gives you an explanation.
“A cleft is a gap or split occurring in the roof of the mouth, upper lip, or both. It is due to improper joining of the tissue during fetal development. There are no definitive known causes as of right now, but it’s believed that the environment and genetics can play a role.
The hospital has its own craniofacial team, but I was asked to join this particular case given its more complicated nature. Hanna became one of the first patients I treated when I came to Columbia,” Doctor Cullen finishes fondly, a smile gracing his lips.
“What makes this case complicated?” you ask.
“Hanna was born with a bilateral complete cleft lip and palate, meaning her lip cleft is two-sided and continues into her nose. It took quite a few surgeries to repair the lip, but now the next step is to repair the palate.”
The elevator reaches the floor and dings. You follow Doctor Cullen out and continue prodding him with more questions, which he is more than eager to answer. It’s incredible how knowledgeable he is. Granted, it is his job to know these things, but you couldn’t begin to imagine yourself being able to even scratch the surface of these topics, not to mention give a mini lecture on it.
You’re soon standing at the door to a patient room while the doctor asks Hanna’s parents if you can observe. They readily agree, and Doctor Cullen motions for you to come in.
Inside the room, you see an infant that can’t be more than a year old – Hanna. She’s sitting upright on the bed, leaning against who you assume to be her father. You notice two fading scars going up into her nose above her lip. Her mother is waving a stuffed toy around her, but Hanna’s attention is fixated on the blonde doctor.
“Y/N, allow me to introduce you to Hanna’s parents, Anthony and Linh Pham. And this is Doctor Giselle Adamou, who will be working with me on the surgery,” Doctor Cullen gestures to the older doctor in the room.
“It’s nice to meet you all,” you say politely.
Pre-op goes differently than what you’ve gotten used to observing this week. There is no case presenting given the lack of residents on the case. If anything, this is what you would expect out of a non-teaching hospital.
Doctor Cullen re-explains the procedures to Hanna’s parents, but halfway through, Hanna crawls to the end of the bed where Doctor Cullen is and attempts to stand, arms outstretched as if to say, “Up! Up!” Bewilderment is not a word you would have associated with him, and yet you catch the brief widening of his eyes that betray his usually calm demeanor.
“I think she wants you to hold her,” Linh comments.
“I can see,” Doctor Cullen muses. “Do you mind?”
“She’s all yours.” Linh picks her daughter up from the bed and hands her to the doctor. The sound of Hanna’s elated laughter fills the room, and you can’t stop a small smile from appearing on your own face. A cute baby and a gorgeous doctor? You don’t know who to thank for the sight.
Meanwhile, Hanna starts playing with various pens in Doctor Cullen’s breast pocket while Doctor Adamou continues where her colleague left off. You try to pay attention, you really do. Like Hanna though, your attention lies on someone else, and that someone else happens to be Doctor Cullen.
The more you study him, the more the minute features you never noticed about him before seem to pop out to you. Under the bright fluorescent lighting of the hospital, the dark purple circles under his eyes are more apparent than ever. How ironic for the preacher of health to lack sleep himself. His eyes, which you normally consider to be a vivid golden, are darker than you initially thought them to be. They are liquid pools of dark amber, speckled with dustings of gold and flecks of black. There isn’t a single blemish on his face that you can see either, further confirming your belief that this man is truly the most attractive person you have ever met. Either that or he must have one hell of a skincare routine.
It’s unnerving how young his appearance is. Skincare and diet can only do so much for a person, right? Doctor Cullen has to be at least 35 at the minimum, yet he could easily pass off as someone from your own school.
“Any last minute questions?” you hear Doctor Adamou ask and snap back into reality. By missing nearly everything the older doctor talked about, you already know you’ll be so screwed if and when Doctor Cullen decides to interrogate you on this case.
Neither parent has anything left to say, so Doctor Cullen gives a reluctant Hanna back to her mother. She lets out a cry and his expression softens.
“I know, sweetheart. I’ll miss you too, but I need to get ready for your big surgery, okay? I promise you’ll see me again in a few hours.” His soothing voice does wonders for her. In an instant, Hanna quiets down and her frown is replaced with giggles and smiles again. She waves the two of you off, and you both take your leave with Doctor Adamou trailing behind you. You’re not even halfway out the door yet when Doctor Cullen starts testing your knowledge again.
“Y/N, what procedure will we be doing to repair Hanna’s cleft?”
You do not have this one in the bag whatsoever. You wrack your brain for information that could help you, but Doctor Adamou interjects before you get a chance to say anything.
“Why does it not surprise me that you’re treating students like interns already, Carlisle?”
“I am merely advancing the education of next generation’s doctors,” he responds.
“Whatever you say,” she laughs. “Don’t scare off Y/N though, or we won’t have any doctors left in the next generation.” She turns to you after picking up files from a nearby counter and says, “You come running to me if he pushes you too hard, alright?”
You grin. “For sure.”
“Good. I look forward to seeing you both in the OR,” she says before heading off.
You like Doctor Adamou. Each surgeon you’ve met here so far has had such different personalities, yet each also has the charisma and confidence to take control of a room and command respect. You, on the other hand, could barely get your own friends to listen to your own words. How are you ever going to get on the level of all the amazing doctors around you?
“She saved you there,” Doctor Cullen comments, leafing through Hanna’s charts as he walks you into an empty elevator to the operating floor. Oops, it’s just your luck that he noticed your lack of attention during the pre-op. “It’s unlike you to be distracted. Penny for your thoughts?”
The elevator doors shut, and he looks up from the chart, his eyes falling onto yours. He has that twinkle in his eyes again – the one that brings warmth to your cheeks and could make anyone weak in their knees. You know it’s silly, but a single look from him could make you spill any of your deepest and darkest secrets, yet a part of you also knows that he would keep it. You’re not naïve – you know it’s dangerous to put so much faith into a man you only met this week – but there’s something about him that told your instincts to trust him from the very beginning.
Call it intuition, or maybe it’s just plain stupidity, but you sure as hell aren’t going to tell him about how you got distracted because of his pretty face.
You hesitate for a moment and let out a sigh. “How do you do it?” He quirks a brow, momentarily perplexed, and you attempt to find the right words. “How do you make all of this look so easy? How do you know what the right thing to say is? Or trust that what you’re doing is even right? How did you know if this was all meant for you? This is really dumb, but it seems like everyone here was born for this job, and then there’s... me.”
There’s a slight sense of dread starting to form in your stomach. You’re unsure if what you asked even made any sort of sense and wonder if you gave too much away. Giving any reason to second guess your abilities is like digging your own grave when it comes to this career. Expressing uncertainty is one of the biggest taboos of the cutthroat world that is pre-med because schools would not accept students that aren’t absolutely, totally, and completely sure about this path.
You’ve wanted this for so long, yet there’s still a part of you that doubts if you would be enough.
Rather than going straight to gowning and scrubbing in for the surgery, Doctor Cullen grabs your hand and leads you down to an abandoned hallway, only letting go once the two of you are hidden in an alcove away from any prying ears or eyes.
“What are you doing? Shouldn’t you be getting ready for surgery?”
“We have a few minutes to spare. Y/N, please know that I understand how you feel,” he says softly. “There was a time when I questioned my own abilities as well… whether my perseverance could overcome adversity. It took quite some time to reach where I am today. However, without enduring those trials and tribulations, I would not be here. With time comes experience, and it is that experience that allows me to perform my job the best I can.”
His voice reminds you of a gentle breeze, rustling the leaves of a tree on a cool summer night when he continues speaking in hushed tones. It brings a blanket of reassurance, a sense that things would eventually be alright.
“I have said this before, but I see enormous potential in you. You still have a great deal of time to grow and develop your skills. It’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself with others, especially given today’s societal standards, but I believe you are much more capable than you may think you are. Everyone’s journey is different and yours may not necessarily be as linear as you would prefer. In due time though, I have faith that you will succeed.”
What he says is exactly what you needed to hear.
The swell of tears pricks at your eyes and start blurring your vision, but you blink them away quickly, fighting the urge to wrap your arms around the doctor.
“Thank you, Doctor Cullen.” Your voice is barely above a whisper.
“You’re very welcome. Now, I believe there’s a little girl waiting on us.”

Why I think Bones animated the light novels in the order they have so far
Before I start, I will preface this by directly quoting Asagiri as he did say himself:
“...each of the plots in [novel] Volumes 1 through 4 are independent with their own timelines that follow different protagonists, meaning you can start them in any order.” (55 Minutes, Afterword, Yen Press translation)
This was of course written at the time of 55 Minutes being written (which was first released in October of 2016), but this has so far held true for all of the following light novels except for Storm Bringer. So officially speaking, you don’t necessarily have to read the bsd light novels in numerical/release order or chronological to the story order either, though you’d probably want to have read or watched 15 Years Old before Storm Bringer. Also, considering that 55 Minutes and Dead Apple are the only ones that take place during the main story, you may want to have at least finished season 2 or read up to the end of ch 37 in the manga so that you’re familiar with the characters (because these two take place shortly after where s2 left off).
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to why I personally think that Bones has decided to adapt the light novels that have been animated so far in the order that they have. Seeing as Dead Apple was pretty much requested by Bones for Asagiri to write (according to his afterword in the novel), I won’t really be going over it.
Anyway, my theory is that they chose to adapt Entrance Exam>Dark Era>15 YO because in that order the light novels are most relevant to which part of Dazai’s past and mental state are tied to the current main story arc being animated. This doesn’t make Dazai the protagonist in the main story, in fact he never has been as of yet, but this is how the audience is able to slowly uncover Dazai’s past and try to learn about how his mind works. Keep in mind that even the novels with Dazai’s name in the title and even what few scenes there are focused on Dazai and his POV in them, they are not actually from his POV and we are given the absolute minimal clues as to what he may be thinking.
In s1 we don’t know much about his past yet but Entrance Exam/Azure Messenger helps to highlight his eccentricities while also showing his cunning, but also addresses the question of how Dazai and Kunikida are able to work together. Atsushi himself starts the arc off by questioning how two people with seemingly such incompatible work ethics and personalities are able to work together and even became work partners in the first place.
This was cut out from the anime but the novel also shows how Dazai can act sketchy at times and acts on his own behind people’s backs. There were also a lot of overall changes from the Entrance Exam novel to the point that I find it more fitting to refer to the novel as Entrance Exam and the animated arc as the Azure Messenger arc due to how much was cut and changed, but that’s not the point here.
Next, Dark Era shows not only that Dazai used to work in the Port Mafia, but also some of his closest connections within it and why he left, which becomes relevant during the Guild arc. It also introduces us to the Lupin bar, which Dazai is later shown holding a match box from there as a relic of Oda, who he always thinks about/remembers in difficult situations. Dark Era is also where we’re introduced to Ango and what led to Dazai pretty much despising and refusing to forgive Ango.
15 Years Old mainly shows us the relationship between Dazai and Chuuya. This includes how they first met, the earliest instance we know of when Dazai can act his age, but also touches on the topic of Mori’s leadership. It takes place shortly after when Mori became leader, so the choices Mori makes during this time are crucial to both him and the PM. The importance of Mori’s leadership is later mentioned again during the Cannibalism arc, and we see Chuuya respecting Mori as a fellow leader at the end of 15 YO. We also see in 15 some of Dazai’s mentality as a strategist and leader when directly under Mori’s influence, and it is Mori’s teaching that got Dazai to a point that the only reason Fyodor was able to be found in s3 was because Dazai claimed that it’s how he would act in that situation. This is shown in some of Dazai’s unnecessary cruelty and use of excessive force during the arc (ie. continuing to shoot a dead body). 15 also shows not only how Dazai and Chuuya first met but also how they are both able to act their age around each other. Their constant bickering shows that they can both act like the teens or young adults that they are (depending on when we’re looking at) but also that they already have at least some respect and trust for each of them being their own person and each having their own strengths. They’re both being used as very important and powerful tools by their respective groups during 15, but they still realize that the other can each make their own decisions. Dazai is the one that tells the Sheep that Chuuya is his own person and Chuuya assures Shirase and Yuan of the captured members safety and he later realizes the extent of Dazai’s foresight after asking him to spare the kids, which Dazai mentions was part of his original plan anyway.
What’s interesting to me is how during the Rimbaud fight, Dazai claims that he’s started to become interested in living again yet only 1 year later in Storm Bringer, he is at his absolute worst in terms of what we’ve seen so far of his mental health. In regards to everything that went into Dazai’s mental health plummeting between 15 and SB and then improving again between SB and the Dragon Head Conflict, for now we can only hope to one day learn more about the DHC, how Dazai and Oda first met and what happened to Dazai during Chuuya’s first year in the PM. Also do keep in mind that 15 Years Old was originally written at Bones’ request (you can read the full afterword here).
In my opinion, when you think of these as some of the reasons for the order of the light novel adaptations so far, it makes sense to me. I do still question why we got Dead Apple instead of getting 55 Minutes animated, as they take place at around the same time on the timeline. However, if Dead Apple and even the Walking Alone OVA have proved anything, it’s that Chuuya’s mere presence alone brings in the money. Entrance Exam and Dark Era are respectively light novels 1 & 2 but #3 is Untold Origins of the Agency, which has a short story about Atsushi’s entrance exam being planned (A Day at the Agency) followed by the story of how Ranpo and Fukuzawa met and how this led to the need for the ADA to be founded. Personally, I don’t think Untold Origins is too necessary to the main story until Bones gets to animating chapter 71 onwards. In fact, if you want to look at the order of the Japanese release dates for the novels, Gaiden (January 2016) came out between Untold Origins (May 2015) and 55 Minutes (October 2016), yet with the official translations for the novels it’s been skipped over. But at the end of the day, the order Bones has chosen so far is by no means wrong or right. I’m not sure if the information regarding who chose which novel to adapt when is available to the public (if it’s in an interview or one of the guidebooks, hopefully there are translations available so please lmk if you know anything!), but hopefully Asagiri was involved in that part of the decision making as bsd is originally his story.
If you want to see my more in depth predictions for when the remaining light novel anime adaptations would take place (as in which order they’d be animated) and my estimated screen time for each, you can check it out here.
Also last minute thought/realization but they probably could’ve animated A Day at the Agency instead of Entrance Exam and achieved almost the same goal? I think I’ll revisit this idea later after rereading the novels eventually.

Putting all my thoughts on the 5.3 MSQ under the cut. Beware of course of spoilers! Overall I really enjoyed the patch. There were a lot of times where I sounded like an excited dinosaur.
So first things first, the way the patch started with the kids was so cute. I was expecting more with the Ardbert-esque kid, especially when he said he wanted to adventure with friends because he felt like he was missing something... but then they didn’t? I’m not sure what the point of that line of his was then. Ardbert’s soul is inside ours, and also has been shown to have moved on, but I wonder if some fragment of it--the part that is bound to the specific world’s Lifestream--can be reborn? Anyway. A bit bummed we didn’t get more with that train of thought but it was cute nevertheless. Also, apothecary. I was going “IS THIS A HINT?” the moment the kiddo said she wanted to be one as a WoL.
Also, I am totally writing a shortfic of the twins, Satella and Ryne hanging out in the Crystarium library with Moren bringing them books of interest while they sneak in tea and snacks. Ryne falls asleep and is eventually found by Thancred. Alisaie teases him for being a doting father. When everyone leaves, Satella is left cozily snuggled up as the evening turns feeling almost like home at the Arcanist’s Guild.
I really liked the bit where Alisaie’s desire to surpass the WoL and competitive nature is shown, and that some part of it is due to insecurity. I love the character depth and growth SE gives her over the patches. I just about had a heart attack when she started getting woozy with a noise in her head.
Elidibus feeling summoned by the WoL and seeing an Amaurotine in their stead gave me feelings, because it means we are whole enough now to form some sort of connection to the Ascians. Only sundered ones are left now though, so I wonder if that will still stay true.
I did have a heart attack at hearing Thancred collapsed. I was not expecting him to be okay when we got back to see him. Dawn’s Respite scene was very sobering and set me up for something entirely different than the ending we got (thank god).
Alisaie being stubborn and sullen with the Exarch made me wonder if she’s seeing the past with Louisoux in him, and Alphinaud’s comment about how she handled their grandfather leaving all that well all but confirmed it. That’s very sweet.
I made a very loud note as I was playing at the fact that a Rejoining soul must recognize its part on the Source as itself. Not sure if that was just for the Exarch’s case (though there are comments about how we and Ardbert fused very easily too) but I have Filed This Away.
Seeing Shtola collapsed gave me another heart attack but she’s definitely possessed of nine lives. The duty with Elidibus was fantastic, though the lack of voice acting caught me off guard (covid? are duties never voiced?). Fighting the baby Scions made me full of glee and then it got even better from there. Answers playing over the city, and then the HW theme, and then SB--fantastic. I especially paused when it started snowing. I appreciate a lot what Elidibus was doing, which was trying to show to us that the people who seem so ancient and recreated only as puppets had once meant something to him and his own. The fight was a lot of fun. I took a screenshot of berserk-Ardbert for kicks.
Also, the bit where he calls you by your name, and the name is switched from Elidibus to Ardbert. My heart. I have a lot of notes about this for future writing.
Elidibus as Zodiark’s heart and primal weren’t a big surprise as it’s been confirmed before (I think?) BUT he’s basically the primal for the idea of the Warrior of Light and I think that is magnificent. I still don’t have a full grasp on Elidibus as shown in this patch: his memories are fractured, whether by age or Zodiark; he’s driven both by his own ambition and Zodiark’s influence. He’s all over the place and I’m going to have to take better measure of him as I replay everything in NG+.
I have a note that says, “Ella why are you picking up random things off the ground that your enemies have dropped???” but it all turned out even better than okay. I don’t understand how he could have dropped all those Convocation crystals other than as a plot point but whatever. It was a great sequence. “All that remains is to pray. To pray that we will one day meet again, beneath a blue sky.” Made me tear up. The twisting of the Convocation from the gentle, kind Amaurotines to what they are today is brutally heart breaking.
I made a note of how the trees in Amaurot are starting to wither--I am not sure if we’ve always had that? But if not, definitely a small sign of Hades’ magic fading?
Bear with me now but I CAN’T STOP SCREAMING ABOUT AZEM. I of course didn’t get the title right (my 14th is Altima), but I got the duty/job so almost right. My Altima is the Shepherd, though to the souls on the planet living and departing to create and live alongside the Lifestream. The entire scene with Hyth had me shaking in my chair with excitement over how perfectly it described my headcanon 14th--down to her wandering the planet when she wasn’t in the city. Granted it fits with all our WoLs and is specifically made to be so, but I am so excited. Not sure what I’ll do with this when I write, whether I will alter my canon to fit the game or plow on ahead, but we’ll see. I’m just so excited. And the new TITLE fits my OCs to a T. God, thank you, SE. I also love that we are the “sun” and can’t wait for the future connections and theories about the 14th and Azeyma and Azim.
“After all, I cannot say whether I act of my own volition or by the will of my recreator!” Made me laugh-cry.
Scions confirmed that seeing Amaurot awoke a great grief in them, which was then supported by the random Eulmore NPC crying at the sight of it. So, it’s not even reliant on how whole your soul is: everyone who sees it feels something, a soul-genetic memory, maybe? I can’t wait to use this. Also makes me wonder if this is why in the patch the Scions are more wont to encourage you to talk things out with Elidibus, as in SHB they were pretty set against Emet-Selch.
The new dungeon was okay. I need to replay it again and look around more (is there a hint of Hildibrand there??). The Necromancer and Berserker class, though the latter may be Warrior same way Arcanists are called Ink Mage, made me pout a little. I want Necromancer. Also, THIER White Mages get Protect? Pffft.
I didn’t take any notes for the trial but. It was brilliant. The run through Crystal Tower with the Exarch was a wonderful callback (there were so many callbacks, it was great) and then when he told us to go ahead I was like, you better mean it that you don’t plan to play your trump card unless we’re present! The trial itself was breathtaking. When the Amaurotine first showed up I thought it was Azem, then when they snapped their fingers I was like cool we can do that too, and then they did the Emet-Selch wave and I lost it. HOW!? Shtola has a theory that even she admits is far fetched but. Wow. I am wondering which one it may be: Emet-Selch truly somehow having his soul live (we were just in the space where Ascians’ souls go between bodies) and assisted us; or was he called by Azem’s crystal as a memory; or was it a memory entirely? Just. That cameo. I miss you, Emet-Selch. For yours is the seat of the fourteenth broke me also and I’m just all over the place. Elidibus as the Warrior of Light was great.
I don’t understand why he went Baby in the end there. I can’t imagine the Convocation recruited and sacrificed a child. My headcanon is that it’s just meant to represent his childlike devotion and drive to his goals. He wanted to help his brothers and sisters so badly he detached himself from Zodiark. Seeing him sitting there cradling the crystals and talking about how it’s a beautiful day and they’re not there to see it was heartbreaking. The Amaurotines lost so, so much--and there’s no way to bring any of it back. I am glad the Unsundered have finally a chance to rest.
The goodbye scene with Ryne was a little lacking to me. I wanted Thancred to hug her, damn it. At least he told her he’s proud of her. She’s so brave with how she tries not to cry before them. She’s coming into her own, with her own ideals, but also so like Minfilia’s that it made my heart full. I will act as her post moogle to Thancred any time, kupo.
Also the one line she has in Twine about how Gaia is her friend who will be there for her is sweet and I laugh at the idea of Gaia’s reaction.
Okay, so, the ending. Probably the thing I did not expect at all. I expected death. No one died. The animations were beautiful, and Alisaie was such a joy to watch. Just. I don’t have words for it. I was so overcome with happiness at how perfect they all were: Alisaie sinking into her chain in a sulk, the Archons fondling their weapons, Alphinaud with tea and a book. Alisaie jumping off to go find a fight and Alphinaud’s brotherly exasperation. The banter between Urianger and Y’Shtola. My heart is so, so full.
On to the topic of the Exarch, which I did not expect to have this many feelings on: first of all, I expected him to die. We all did. How can one man survive SO many death flags!? When our WoL ran out of the Stones like a wound up mammet I was there with her, heart pounding praying for it to have worked. I am bummed that we didn’t get to experience him actually waking, but that means I can write about it... which I already did, actually. Because: I came out of this with a very unexpected, slowly unfurling Ella/G’raha ship. This was a surprise because ARR G’raha was not someone I even remembered all that well, as I played CT when it came out, but I remember thinking he was a bit too immature for romantic ships; and the Exarch always felt too distant and too much. I was fond of him in SHB but in a passing way, also because I was a little bitter that he put the Scions in such danger in the first place (though I understand all the good that’s come as a result, like uncovering the true Ascian plots). Seeing him at the end there, as a fusion of G’raha and the Exarch, somehow turned my view of him on its head and in that moment, I could easily see Ella and him running off and having proper adventures together. The driving attraction to all my ships is a form of shared experience, or at least understanding of what it’s like to bear a heavy burden on your shoulders. The Exarch was again, too much in his role, and I couldn’t see Ella feeling comfortable being close with him. But now, with this ending? Watching the two of them run off together? Oh, I am excited.
I even wrote four pages of fluff on how he got those bobby pins in his hair and I never write fluff. Please look forward to it being posted soon.
Lastly: Ardbert. If you’ve been around my blog long enough, you’ll know that I’ve been an Ardbert shipper since HW. SHB was so good to me in that regard. Personally, I got closure regarding him in the scene of him offering us his axe and was happy with it. I was overjoyed to see him get closure with Seto now, too. I’m not happy with Elidibus using his body and then tearing it apart as he did, but: it made for great angst and sometimes that’s actually okay with me. The confirmation that he can talk to and through us is interesting and I imagine that he does so rarely, as his soul is finally at rest with his friends--where it truly belongs. He lets us live our life, and a part of him is always with us, now. I imagine him and Ella at one point having a conversation about her burgeoning feelings for G’raha, as in my canon she’s never felt quite a strong enough connection or level of comfort with anyone but Ardbert, and him giving her his “blessing” and encouraging her that it’s okay to chase after the comfort and happiness G’raha can bring her. Especially since all of SHB she was in a very very bad place and this ending we got gives me such a sense of respite, no matter how fleeting.
Speaking of fleeting: Zenos and Asahi/Fandaniel. I am still hoping Zenos gets more interesting because I just can’t bring myself to like him, and seeing him destroy the Garlean empire before we even step foot into it is making me a little pouty. Fandaniel is interesting on a few accounts: he’s a sundered Ascians, so what will that mean? Clearly he’s been unhappy with the Unsundereds’ plans. He’s also pretty crazy for “the bringer of order”, if we follow the FF12 Espers. We didn’t get a lot so I am hesitantly interested. But also, Asahi? I hate that kid...
My last thoughts on this are: the Ascian storyline was meant to come to an end with this patch, but clearly we’re still getting content. So I am hoping that was for the Unsundered Ascians and we’ll find out more about the summon of Hydaelyn and all that. I... have exhausted myself typing all this. Wow.
BUT I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS PATCH AND WILL REPLAY THAT HAPPY ENDING MANY TIMES. I can’t wait for the future.

FFXIV Tank Ramble
Welp, I’m feeling a bit tired and I’m thinking about all of FFXIV’s tanks so I’ll just type some stuff on here for a bit. TL;DR: scared for the tanking balance. Main tank/off tank balance scares the crap out of me. Gunbreaker is looking really damn cool. Might switch to either it or DRK for my main job if they feel good in ShB
Let’s start with tanking balance. The balance for the tanks has always been rocky. Apparently in 2.0, double PLD was the preferred “meta” comp because of WAR being weird and pretty bad. Then in 2.1 they fixed WAR. Then double WAR become the comp with PLD being left in the dust. Then 3.x came around with DRK being added. Simply put: WAR went Super Saiyan, DRK was good because of mostly magic damage fights and PLD was... bad. Having Royal Authority combo off Savage Blade made it impossible for PLD to be the off tank and it didn’t bring enough to the table to be the main tank. With the end Heavensward (3.x), came Stormblood (4.x) and ooooooooh boy. WAR was kind of messed up, PLD went Super Saiyan and poor DRK. Of all the tanks, DRK definitely had it the roughest. This lasted until 4.2 where WAR got fixed and therefore became the best tank (mostly best main tank). DRK got fixed with 4.3 in which got the role of either main or off tank depending on your co-tank (with a WAR in the party, DRK would 100% be the off tank. With a PLD, DRK would 100% be the main tank). Also PLD got nerfed a bit because it was doing too much damage... party poopers.
So as we can see from that the tanking balance hasn’t always been the greatest and 5.0 makes me worried. Gunbreaker being a thing, which btw until we get official the short version revealed, Gunbreaker is GBR on here, is one thing. Nomura’s statement after EU Fan Festa about them considering the whole 2 main tanks and 2 off tanks thing makes me more worried. Apparently there is supposed to be a job adjustment patch before Shadowbringers about which my guess, if that it is true, is to give us at least a month or 2 to prepare before Shadowbringers with certain properties on skills or maybe even entirely new skills given.
Anyway, back on topic. Why? Why does it make me worried? Because this can potentially be HW PLD all over again, but then for 2 tanks. It also makes me worried because what the HFIL determines a main tank and what the HFIL determines an off tank? Currently the “main” tank is the one that can generate the most aggro very quickly and off tanks are essentially your 5th DPS that isn’t as good as a DPS, but they are disgustingly tanky and bring utility to the party, though tank swaps are a thing that exist. If they want to keep tank swaps as a thing, main tanks can’t be too bad at doing whatever the off tank needs to do and same goes for the vice versa scenario. Plus how will you explain in-game or through official means (like the job guide) what a main tank and off tank actually means? So my question again is why? Like, I get needing some base to actually balance them off from but I feel like main tank/off tank will only cause more pain then anything. I felt like balancing them on utility vs damage (more utility = less damage, more damage = less utility) is the better way to go about it. Well, not like this will matter in 3ish months when we actually get the 5.0 patch.
Also speaking about GBR... holy hell man. I’m hyped. While I will forever love the classic sword and board (even though I don’t really like many of the sword and boards in FFXIV, I’m sorry ;-;) in PLD, GBR and DRK depending on how they turn out could make me switch mains to be honest. DRK already tempts me a lot because of its lore actually existing (PLD’s really is shallow outside of “here, these are techniques I can teach you. Also this is what the Sultansworn do. You are a Free Paladin however. What do those do? Protect people and land. Neat huh?”) and because the gameplay is a lot of fun. I’m not fully committed to switching from PLD yet though, since I love PLD. I just hope the story for PLD is good this time around. Hell, make it a plot dump about how Free Paladins get their powers and why we should care about Ul’dah to begin with. I know, that is where we start but seriously... the whole point of the Free Paladins is that they AREN’T restricted by a master (in this case, the Sultana of Ul’dah), so why do we care about Ul’dah so much at this point? Why wouldn’t we move to Gridania and help people there? Or Limsa Lominsa? Ishgard? Ala Mhigo? Doma?
Anyway, rant aside, GBR is looking great from the 30 or so seconds of gameplay that we got. I'm hoping its lore is good and that it will play well. Honestly, ideally for me it would find a middle ground between SB PLD and SB DRK. If it does, I will probably main it, though that goes for any of the tanks tbh. Whether it is PLD, WAR, DRK or GBR, if it finds a sort of middle ground between SB PLD and SB DRK, I will main it. GBR is just the most likely since out of all of the tanks it isn't quite as expected to be covered in heavy plate armor from head to toe and I like that (especially in FFXIV where I honestly think most heavy armor doesn't look thay good).
Anyway, tank ramble over. I'm gonna go sleep. Bye!

Hey, I've been following you for some time now and at some point you disclosed the fact that you're in a long distance relationship. Lately I've been feeling a bit lonely and was thinking about maybe finding a partner and wanted to get some intell from your experience? Is it worth it? Is it hard?
Oi, this is the first (normal) ask I’ve gotten in months, thank you! And it’s so cool that you would come to me for questions like that, I feel honoured. I’m going to try and answer this as informatively as I possibly can; giving out some tips and advice. But first the questions:
Is it worth it and is it hard? - To put it short: absolutely for both of the questions. Without a doubt everyone in this world deserves to love and to feel loved and while this might be a little bit different from the “regular” relationship it is still as rewarding as any other one. It’s obviously MUCH harder than the “no distance” relationship as you need to put in a LOT of effort, you need to be able to trust your partner to stay faithful to you and all of that while there’s (usually) at LEAST a hundred kilometers between you two. There will be those troublesome days when you will be brought down by thoughts like: “oh no, I’m not good enough for them”, “do they really love me?”, “I don’t deserve this/them” and that will suck BAD but at the end of the day both you and your partner deserve this, both of you deserve each other, if it happens, it’s meant to be. HOWEVER! If you start feeling like the relationship is getting toxic (Here are some examples) you need to be ready to drop the person/be dropped yourself. (depending whether you or your partner is the toxic one)
(I’m being a bit inconsistent with my points, sorry about that, hopefully you can understand what I mean nevertheless)
Now for some advice. I can’t really give that many as I’ve only been in this since February/March of this year but I’ll try to think of some logically.
• Don’t hurry making it official, give yourself some time to get to know each other, rushing it might affect your relationship and it might end a month after it started. Of course, some people would say otherwise as it’s safer that way, because you don’t get to fully attach to the other person that well so it doesn’t hurt as much as it would if you would grow on each other but I personally think that that’s not the full experience of a ldr, you’re just going in so you would get the boyfriend/girlfriend of sb status and at this point, it would mean that labels matter to you more than the experience itself.
• TRUST EACH OTHER! This should be pretty self-explanatory, if you can’t trust one another, it simply won’t happen, you’ll be constantly brought down by thoughts like “what if they’re cheating on me?”, “what if they’re using me?” and that’s not the way to go. I understand that it might be difficult for some people to trust someone if they’ve had negative experiences in the past or someone stabbed them in the back but if you want this to work, you have to get over this fear and simply trust your partner. Trust will solidify your relationship.
• Start out as friends. (Kind of an addition to my first piece of advice) Don’t rush the relationship onto each other too fast, start off as friends, talk about your day, interests, get to know each other before making the big steps. You’ll know when the timing is right and it will be easy for you two to get into it.
• Don’t be jealous of the people they hang out with/they’ve dated in the past. The past is the past and you should focus on the present. NEVER bring up their exes, their past relationships are their business and you should NOT be nosey about that, speaking of which, next advice:
• DON’T BE NOSEY! Let your person of interest open up on things they want to talk about. Being nosey may lead to asking about something that they’re insecure/conflicted about and that will ruin the mood for the day. (Maybe even a week if it’s a hard topic for them)
• Don’t expect them to be able to respond at any time of the day. Understand that they’re a human being just like you and they have stuff they have to do, they have their life and you have yours.
• Give each other breaks. There will be days when either you or your partner will feel down or will want to be left alone, be understanding and let them have some time off.
• Respect each other! Respect them as a person, respect their beliefs, respect their time. Respect is one of the ingredients for the perfect relationship, without it, it’ll simply be a deformed ugly blob.
• Time gap. Try to find someone who is a few hours ahead/back so it’s not difficult to talk throughout the day, however, if both of you are ok with 8-12+ hour gaps, then go ahead.
• Don’t put yourself down. Something I am awful at. There are moments when I start saying stuff like “You could probably do better”, “I’m not worth Your love”, “if You find someone else, go for it”. That’s not the way to go about it, if you’re going to repeatedly tell them that they could find someone better then trust me, they will. This is basically me @ my dumb ass self - you’re currently the shit for them, they love you and will love you as long as you put effort in learning to love yourself, let go of the toxic “oh they don’t really love me” thoughts and take their word for it. They 👏 Love 👏You 👏(sorry for the claps)
• Make the most of it. Enjoy your time together because you can never know when it will end, appreciate each other’s “presence”, dream about the future and just be in love! Your relationship is an experience, make sure it’s a good experience and go have FUN. Don’t think about the end of your relationship, forget the “what if’s” and relish being in love!
I really hope this helped in any way, best of luck on finding the one!

NU’EST W interview with @Star1 Magazine
(Trans: Melodia_Muse | Original Article)
What are your thoughts on your photo shoot with Labiotte that took you through a variety of concepts from sweet to chic?
Ren: I had so much fun. It was quite different from our usual photo shoot concepts, so I thought of it as an opportunity to show a new charming side of NU’EST W. I think we were able to take on both the sweet and chic concepts very well.
Baekho: I’ve never had makeup applied on my cheeks before. Putting blush on my cheeks made me feel a little shy for some reason.
Aron: We’ve never done a concept like this before so it was a little difficult at first, but I simply thought of it as a new challenge to tackle. I was looking at the photos in between takes and they looked pretty good, so I felt proud.
JR: I’m happy because I feel like we’ll be able to show various sides of ourselves through this photo shoot.
With the number of male beauty models growing, what do you think are NU’EST W’s charms?
Baekho: People around us often tell us that each member has a very distinct personality. We often hear that each member’s individuality can be clearly seen within NU’EST W’s overall charms.
Ren: Our fans sometimes call us “cold and handsome men.” I think they like that cold and cool image.
Do you have any skincare tips to share with people?
Baekho: I try to use one facial mask a day. I realized it’s not easy to remember to regularly use facial masks. I’ll work on it really hard for two days and then forget on the third day. But I still try my best to use one facial mask a day.
JR: All of the members use facial masks if we have an important scheduled activity coming up. Of the members, Ren is the one who puts the most care into his skincare routine. While Ren is already taking care of his skin before any acne pops up, I usually take care of my skin after I have trouble with acne.
Ren: I’m usually very thorough with my skincare because I have the type of skin that is prone to acne. When I first started, it used to take me quite a lot of time to apply all of my basic skincare products, but now that I’ve gotten used to it, I naturally began investing less time on basic skincare. And my skin tends to worsen if I eat greasy food or a lot of snacks, so I’m careful about what I eat.
What have you been up to since wrapping up promotions for “Dejavu”?
Baekho: We’ve each been enjoying our personal hobbies. And going out to eat delicious food. Though I’m on a diet, I really like to eat so I work out to make up for the things I eat.
Ren: Baekho exercises a lot these days. There are times when he goes to the gym in the early hours of the morning, and even when our scheduled activities end late at night, he doesn’t skip out and still goes to the gym. Seeing him go to the gym without fail like that, I think he’s amazing.
Aron: I recently went on a domestic trip with my friends. I had a relaxing time with them and took some time to recharge.
Ren: I like to go on walks. My hobby is to just walk around the park in front of our house or around the neighborhood.
Do you have a hobby that you all share together?
Ren: We all have different hobbies but we have similar taste in food. We all like the same foods so it’s easy to pick a menu when we order food to the dorms or go out to eat. The food we like most is grilled meat. We like flour-based snacks too. We eat fried chicken a lot.
Seeing that you have different hobbies, all of you must have different personalities as well?
Ren: JR has a very strong sense of responsibility. He also has very strong leadership skills as the leader of our group. We’re always grateful because he’s very good at leading the other members. He’s overflowing with charisma on stage, but off the stage, he’s very innocent and cute.
JR: Baekho has this unvarnished innocence. He’s always very honest. When he sets a new goal, he never gives up midway and always works hard until he reaches his goal.
Baekho: Aron has a lot of things he wants to do and a lot of dreams he wants to achieve. And when he’s faced with a problem, he’s the type of person who tries to resolve it quickly. Though he’s the oldest in the group, he’s so cute that he feels like the youngest at times. He has a lot of aegyo. He also buys us food pretty often.
Aron: The members know a great side of Ren that not many other people know very well. He’s very thoughtful, and he’s the kind of friend who will listen to the troubles and concerns of the people around him and give them lots of great advice.
We’re curious to know what kind of leader JR is when leading the group.
Baekho: He doesn’t try to be at the front on his own and he prefers to create an atmosphere of "Let’s all work together to make the team better.”
JR: I’m the leader of the group but I’m also just one member. We’re all in the same team, we’re all standing in the same place, and we’re all walking in the same direction, so I don’t want to act like I’m above anyone else. I want us to walk together. I don’t find it hard to be the leader. I’m naturally a very responsible person so I don’t see it as a source of stress or pressure.
You were able to perfectly complete your missions on SBS funE School Attack without being caught by the students.
JR: I don’t think the students recognized us at all. Haha. They probably never imagined we’d be roaming around their school wearing their uniforms.
Baekho: Still, we were trying to be as discreet as possible while moving around so we wouldn’t get caught. Because it’s a program in which we have to carry out missions without getting caught.
Ren: It was our first time wearing school uniforms in five years and it was nice because it felt like we were going back to our days in school. All of the members looked really good in school uniforms. It made me think that we’d do well if we were ever picked for a school uniform CF.
Aron: This was my first time wearing a school uniform in seven years and it reminded me a lot about the past. Through the program, it felt like I was able to go back to my days as a student.
What kind of students were NU’EST W back in the day?
JR: I was a very quiet and nice student. One of those ordinary kids you see at least one of in each class. I was pretty good at studying too. Up till my second year of middle school, I received full marks on my math exams for midterms and finals quite often.
Baekho: When I was in elementary school, I was a really good student and even placed in the top 10 of my grade with my scores. I was even the student president in sixth grade.
Aron: I was the kind of student who would work hard and play hard. I liked to study.
JR: I was the kind of student who always volunteered if our teachers asked us to showcase our talents. Haha. I often did cover dances for dance moves that were popular at the time.
The dance practice video you made after winning first place with “Dejavu” became a hot topic. Is there a reason you went with such extravagant costumes for your promised video?
Baekho: Before “Dejavu,” we’d dressed up in costumes after winning with “Where You At,” but we felt that video had been quite lacking. When we were watching the video, we thought to ourselves, ‘It would have been better if we’d taken our costumes even further.' So we all agreed that when we made our promise about first music show wins [for “Dejavu”], we’d go all out for this one.
Each member dressed up as a different character, but who had it the hardest?
JR: I think it was me who struggled the most because I had to wear that dinosaur costume for the video. The costume was bigger than I expected it to be. The tail was long so I fell over a couple of times.
Aron: That’s right. When we were dancing, it was JR who had the hardest time because of his outfit but when it comes to makeup, I think Baekho becoming a chicken and Ren becoming a cavity had it the hardest.
Baekho: When you get makeup done, it’s best to stay still and not laugh to make it easier for the makeup artists. But it was so hard for me to hold in my laughter whenever I looked next to me and saw what was going on with Ren.
Ren: We all laughed really hard before we started filming. Even just meeting each other’s eyes made us laugh. Because we got all the laughter out, we were able to hold it in when the cameras were rolling. Haha.
Have you already thought of what to do if you win first place with your next album?
JR: I want us to go even further with our transformations than we did with this one. It would be more like actual cosplay than just dressing up. I think it would be fun if we set a theme for all of us to follow.
Aron: I haven’t thought about future music show win promises yet. If we do get first place, I want us to do something that will bring joy to our fans.
You’ve taken on a wide variety of concepts during your seven years of activities. What has been the most memorable concept?
Ren: We really like to challenge ourselves so we take on a new concept with every album. I grew my hair out once. I think for me, our debut song “Face” is the most memorable concept. We wore school uniforms and were representing the viewpoint of teens, and we had hairstyles and accessories that matched each of our personalities. It was a song that had a unifying concept, but also showcased each member’s individuality.
JR: It’s so difficult for me to pick just one because all of them are precious to me. Whenever we come back with a new side of ourselves, it’s actually us opening that part of ourselves that already existed up to other people. It’s not something we forcibly have to create, so each concept is memorable to me.
What is the concept that best represents NU’EST W right now?
Ren: I think there are charms that you can only show in your early to mid-twenties. That feeling of being in the middle, not too young but not too mature, that’s the kind of thing we want to show.
Baekho composes music and writes lyrics. Which member would you want to write a solo track for as a gift?
Baekho: Each member has a different charm and vocal tone. JR’s voice suits lyrical music really well. Ren is very expressive, so I think he'd do well with trendy music. For Aron, I would create a song perfected with a rhythmical tempo and cute and hopeful lyrics.
JR is currently appearing as an MC on Mnet’s Love Catcher and JTBC’s LAN Cable Life. Did you find adjusting to variety shows difficult?
JR: I’m the kind of person who doesn’t sugarcoat my words and I truthfully say what I feel. I’m learning so much while filming because I have such great seniors around me. The people who have helped me the most on my variety show journey have been the cast members of JTBC’s Night Goblin. I learned so much from them. It was my first regular appearance on a show, and I was grateful to be appearing on a program with such great seniors despite having no experience in variety shows. I learned so much from them. It’s thanks to the people I worked with on Night Goblin that I’ve been able to appear on variety shows till now.
Do the other members have variety shows you want to appear in?
Ren: I want to appear on MBC’s I Live Alone. Although I live in a dorm with the other members, we each have our own rooms so they can just install cameras in my room. I think I’d be able to show a more natural side of myself if I filmed something at home, rather than if I filmed something in a studio or outside. I can show people how I like to dance at home, or even ordinary things like what I look like when I’m eating.
Aron: I’ll be ready for any program that will invite me. I think I’d be able to show the more mischievous side of myself if I appeared on variety shows.
Baekho: I want to appear on tvN’s Three Meals a Day. I like to cook, and I find the concept of escaping the city and filming in nature to be quite charming.
Aron was accepted to study journalism at NYU but gave it up to become a singer. We’re curious to know why you chose to become a singer.
Aron: I studied hard because I wanted to become a reporter, but I didn’t want to give up singing. I thought long and hard about it and picked singing in the end, and I’ve never regretted it. I’m happy right now because I get to do something I like. I want to keep being a singer and be with the other members for a long time. If I ever get the chance to later on, I’d still like to attend college and study.
Do you have any plans for an album release?
Baekho: We don’t have anything set definitively, but we’re working hard to return and show a better side of ourselves as soon as we can.
Aron: We all talk to each other about the stage very often. We’re always thinking about what kind of performance our fans would like most.
JR: We’re so grateful that [our fans] are always supporting us no matter what stage we prepare. It’s thanks to them that we’re able to release better albums and enjoy more growth. We want to repay our fans for their love. We’re constantly thinking about what our fans will like most as we prepare for our next activities.
There’s such a thing as a “7-year jinx for Idols” but you’ve been continuing your group activities and are closer than ever. Do you have a secret to your longevity?
Baekho: I don’t know. We’ve just been focusing on working hard and doing our best in every moment, and we find ourselves in our seventh year as a group already.
JR: I don’t think there are any secrets or tips. We’ve just spent a long time together and grown affectionate of each other, and we like each other. We treasure each other and I think that’s what has helped us stay together for seven years.
Are there any goals you want to achieve as NU’EST W?
JR: I want us to be a group that always brings happiness to our fans. We’ve earned this great second chance to perform again and do photo shoots like this, and it’s only possible because of all the love our fans give us, right? It’s because of their love that we’ve been given this opporunity to do our best in every moment, so we’re going to work hard to always bring happiness to our fans.
Ren: I think all singers dream of winning a Daesang (Grand Prize). Haha. We will continue to do our best to become a group that can win a Grand Prize.
Aron: I want us to repay all the love we’ve been given. We’ll continue to work hard and keep showing a better side of ourselves in every moment.
What are your future plans?
JR: We plan to keep doing what we’ve been doing till now, doing our best in every aspect possible. Whether it’s acting, variety shows, or creating new albums, we will work hard in our respective places. We will keep making an effort to meet our fans more often and create spaces for us to connect. Please wait for us just a little longer.
