Because these two men were too busy fighting each other last time to notice that Joe got hurt several times yet neither cared since they were so blinded by their hatred of each other.

And here they are again! Joe is right beneath them, yet they are so consumed with hating each other that they don't even notice.

Thinking about Malarkey’s comment of Joe Toye being send to the coal mines by his father at 15, he probably was even younger. I’ll have to do a little more digging but mr Toye died in nov.1933, so unless he had it written in his will (which ???) Joe would’ve been 14 at the oldest when he started working. (He was born March 14th 1919 btw)

“No, no, and no,” the little old man answered. “Pacifica is the name of a great kingdom. A grand empire, right on the coast of this very state.”

“If it’s so great then how come we haven’t heard about it before?” Joe demanded.

“It’s under water,” the man answered simply.

“I still think we’d know about it.”

“No, you wouldn’t.” the old man stated. “And that’s by design. But that would be getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s start at the beginning. It’s sort of an origin story, you see...”
