i just wanted to say that the Butcher's Circus still has a lot of players! There's still a decently sized community for it too, which I find super cool (i love the Butcher's Circus ehehe)

At least it all starts the day AFTER the guapoduo wedding, so we have something nice before THAT chaos… I reckon it’ll be fun, the stakes are interesting and the rules are well thought-out. I’m just mildly stressed because of the Implications and possible divides when the server banding together is their greatest defense against the mysterious whims of the Federation (exactly what this is, a masterful power play and social experiment by them). My mind is REELING. There is also no way that the new president wouldn't mostly just be a puppet of the Federation - they get a few bonuses but everything's still overall controlled by the Census Bureau (who have to approve pretty much any changes the president wants to make; they lose pretty much nothing with this election, gain another in amongst the players, and have an opportunity to sow distrust/division between the islanders in the process), and centralizing power is an excellent way to get a scapegoat for their own plans/distraction from current issues the islanders are facing, like the code entity and escaping the island.

This may be a comic fan red flag to some but I have to say I genuinely do love Chuck Dixon's Ollie. Like yeah whenever I start thinking about it too hard I get pissed off about it and the way it goes against previous characterizations and important character beats presented in the same book etc etc but like by god is it funny. Like I'm sorry Ollie diehards I love him too but him calling Connor a bastard is probably a top 10 moment for me personally. I really do love it sm. Kinda interesting to think about the fact that Iris is significantly scarier and durable as a charred corpse, yet he... Doesn't give two fucks about that. He'd rather be weakened than stay that way, even though it'd give him the upperhand in most of the fights he gets into.

Generally speaking, the gender separation makes sense for all the reasons stated above, because it's a common denominator that commonly delineates these types of major body differences that provide different advantages which are "unfair" to people without those advantages.

It's when you have uncommon outliers that now you're suddenly unable to categorize them by the gender system, which results in intrusive measurements (testosterone levels would be one of them, actually).

Frankly, any time you're trying to determine a quality of a person's physical body in order to categorize them somehow, this is an invasion of privacy, and people should be asking why this has to be done at all. Why are you making it about someone's body, and not about their performance?

If the world decides that gender isn't good enough to provide the right "fairness" to the most amount of people, then banish all categorization for sports. Sports are competitive. People who play them should succeed or fail based on their own merit, and stacked up against everyone else, regardless of physical traits.

The end goal is to determine the best of the best. It is ultimately a judgment of the highest skill levels and the most applicable physical attributes. Lump everyone into the same pool and have them go at it, and who ever rises to the top is the true winner. Everyone else can be ranked accordingly. Stop giving participation prizes just because you can't compete in more demanding categories. If you're number 163 in the world because your weight and skill placed you there, then so be it. Success in sports will ultimately run up against very real physical and genetics barriers, and that's just the way it is.

Why do we segregate sports by sex?

Disclaimer: this video was intended as a fun look at the inconsistent logic of gender segregation in sports, but as a short-form video, it naturally does not go into much nuance. One thing I want to make clear is that I do believe we should be making sports more inclusive to trans and intersex athletes, and it seems to me that a great starting point would be to stop gender segregating sports that really don’t need it.
