Shifting proof, you're not wasting your time.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d9c837a096f51ca16daf8bd54ca823d5/cf383f2d52b86e84-86/s500x750/01d28f48e80fc5d6ee64da63d519000aa9c5248c.jpg)
"My beloved, the distances between us have been erased, I am here, I am here."
(If anyone is able to guess which song lyric I translated here I will love you for all my existence)
If you're doubting shifting, then read this:
Let's dive into your mind. Most importantly, into your dreams.
Have you ever realised why you dream? Dreams are just for your subconscious mind to reherse your current reality, in practice all its doing is to ensure you don't fall out of your reality.
No matter how insane of a dream you're having, it has some resemblance with the life you are currently leading. Have you ever tried to figure out just how weird the whole concept of dreams are? For example, it's common knowledge to everyone, even antishifters, that lucid dreams are a thing. Meaning you can literally play around in your mind. When you sleep, do you realise the passage of time? Sometimes your sleep stretches on for long and you don't realise you've slept that much, sometimes, dream cover a lot within a short cycle of sleep. So what proof of time could you possibly present to yourself during your hours of slumbers, where is this clock that's supposed to dictate your life?
Sometimes you don't even dream, although unconscious processes are going on in your human brain, but where are you? In the void, you're floating around somewhere in the void, without any care of your reality for once, this is called your common consciousness, or just the void state.
Whenever you wake up from a deep sleep, you feel disoriented and confused, you hear conversations and imagine things which didn't happen, there is no literal proof that these happenings are just caused by general grogginess. This confusion is your consciousness readjusting to the reality you're in.
Let's discuss what all of this science and physics is. It's essentially just a method your consciousness put up in order for you to not fall out of reality, and to not have to face thanos out of nowhere, therefore logic exists.
We are from our roots just souls floating around in nothingness, we're souls capable of creation of anything by thoughts, will, and energy. We need a medium for suitable existence, for all of the people existing alongside us, what we have in common is that our consciousness has chose a similar mode of existence for us, which is by living as human beings on this livable spherical ball, where we accept the principles of luck.
Why does a system of being ridiculed by your environment and people around you and the formation of unwanted doubts exist whenever you claim something "impossible" by human terms, for example, if you assumed and started claiming the sun rising from the opposite direction as the truth, that's going to become your base since you are creating reality, therefore you will break reality and to prevent it you yourself once put these limitations, just like how you script your DRs.
But once you realise the fact that all along this organised way of existence was put up by you in order to excite your consciousness by going through these experiences, you'll realise shifting realities, manifesting, or just going back to floating as a soul in the void is a known principle for you and easy, and you don't have to struggle to gain it, you've been doing it all your existence, then you'll shift on command.
Reality is just like a dough, which you have been molding and adjusting it accordingly.
Shape that dough into your DR
It's you. It's always been you, you've been the main provider and controller, you've just temporarily gone to existing in the form of a human vessel, breaking free is nothing difficult.
Anyways, belief in this is all you need to shift, it's freaking easy even if it's just you going to your DR to get railed. "But doubts-!!" Shush. If doubts are able to stop a process for you, you could also utilise them in a way which benefit you, from this moment do a complete uno reverse card on your doubts, you used to doubts your manifestations, go ahead and start doubting your existence being anything but perfect.
"I don't think I can be a common human being weeping over mere earthly problems, all ill ever be is a master manifestor who could do whatever I want."
...
I finished this draft at 5:55.
Now that I think about it shifting using doubts could be pretty neat, but I still have another 2 methods bending from the poll, so that's on my pending list I guess.
This entire post was a rant from my side so if there is anything confusing or out of place, just ask. Ask away until your little heart is satisfied and then go shift because what are you doing here when you could just go study at hogwarts where the stairs try to put you in your grave.

His name is Chuck - LN4
+summary: what do you get a man that can literally get anything he wants at a moment's notice? why a puppy of course! +pairing: Lando Norris x Reader +warnings: mentions a pregnancy scare, mentions cheating (no cheating happens), semi-edited. a/n: this was supposed to be out months ago... oops. I do not give my permission to have my work reposted. I do not give my permission to have my work translated. If I'm notified that you've stolen my work or claim it as your own, you'll be asked to take it down before I'll report you. End of discussion.
What do you get someone that can afford to get anything their heart desires? It seemed like nothing that came to mind was good enough. She could get him the same thing she did the first year they were together for his birthday, which was a brand new, muted orange, lace lingerie set. But repeat birthday gifts were tacky in her opinion. And it's not like she couldn't get him another one of those boudoir books because the last time she did, it led to a pregnancy scare.
Whenever his birthday did come around, they'd most likely wouldn't even be in Monaco, much less in England. It's sometimes hard to plan things around his racing schedule but she wouldn't have it any other way.
"What are you watching?"
Jumping, placing a hand over her chest, "Jesus Christ, Lando! What is wrong with you!"
Lando laughed as he walked around the couch and sat next to her, noticing she was watching the most recent video Mclaren posted of him playing with puppies. Y/n saw the corners of Lando's mouth turn upwards into a smile. It was at this moment she knew what she was going to get Lando for his birthday. Only problem was where she was going to get it and where she was going to keep it until his birthday.
"I had a lot of fun playing with those puppies," he paused. "It makes me wish we weren't so busy traveling to and from countries for races, you know?"
"I can rearrange and clear some things from my schedule so I could be with the dog at all times."
"There's no need to do that, love."
Y/n saw a flash of sadness in Lando's eyes before he rested his head on her shoulder. Despite him saying she didn't need to move things around; she wanted to because that's what you do when you love someone. So, when Lando went off to go stream with Max, she texted Alex.
y/n -> albonooo
how much do you love me?
albonooo -> y/n
what did you do?
y/n -> albonooo
it's not about what I did, but what I'm about to do.
I need a huge favor.
albonooo -> y/n
I feel like I'm about to regret hearing you out but carry on.
y/n -> albonooo
Lando's birthday is coming up and everyone knows that Lando is a hard man to shop for. Mclaren recently did a video playing with puppies and I wanted to get him a puppy for his birthday.
albonooo -> y/n
okay, so what does this have to do with me?
y/n -> albonooo
I'm glad you asked!
When I get the puppy, I need somewhere to put them until his actual birthday.
albonooo -> y/n
Why me though?
y/n -> albonooo
if you and Lily got another animal no one would question it. In case you forgot, you guys practically have a zoo.
albonooo -> y/n
fair.
Now that she had a place to put the puppy once she got it, the next step was to talk to someone over at Battersea. The first phone call she made, no one answered. No one answering wasn't that big of a deal since they were probably busy, and she'd just call back later. When she called back hours later, the woman she spoke to was less than helpful. In fact, she wasn't really directing her in the direction she wanted to go, and the frustration was growing by the minute. Her fingers rubbed her temple, wondering if getting Lando a puppy for his birthday was a good idea.
And the search for a puppy didn't get any better as the weeks went by. Every time she thought she had found the perfect puppy, something would happen, and she'd be back at square one. But just as she was ready to give up and throw the towel in, she had gotten a call from her aunt saying a friend of hers' dog had puppies five weeks ago and could come and pick one out.
There's just one issue.
This person was in England and she's in Monaco.
When she told Lando she wasn't able to attend the Brazilian GP because of a business meeting back in England, he had reassured her it was fine, but she could tell from his eyes he was a little upset. Seeing that look in his eyes made her feel guilty for lying to him since she's never lied to him about anything in their relationship. She had to remind herself that it's a gift for this birthday and it'll be one that he'll never forget.
Arriving in England, the drive to her aunt's friend's house was long since they lived pretty far out, but she didn't mind as she watched the landscape change from the bustling city where houses were stacked on top of each other to the wide-open meadows of the quiet English countryside.
Soon, the uber was turning onto the long rocky driveway leading up to a large stone home covered ivy. Standing outside was a man who she assumed to be her aunt's friend.
The man held his hand out for her to shake. "You must be y/n! My name is Richard."
"That's me," she smiled. Richard led them in the house and into the sunroom where the sound of puppies playing warmed her heart. "Oh, my goodness! They're all so cute!"
Richard stood off to the side, "If have you any questions, don't hesitate to ask."
"What breed of dog are they?" she asked, sitting down on the floor. The puppies surrounded her until she threw a ball, but there was one that didn't move from her side.
"Jack Russell Terrier." Richard smiled when the one dog that didn't move from her side crawled into her lap and fell asleep. "Seems like you've been chosen."
"Seems like it."
A warm fuzzy feeling washed over her body as she gently scratched behind the sleeping puppy. In her heart she just knew this was the dog for Lando. Pulling an orange collar from her pocket, she fastened it around his neck, making sure it wasn't too tight.
"You got a name picked out?" Richard said, pushing off the door frame, gesturing to her to follow him.
"No. I'll let my boyfriend pick a name since it's going to be his birthday present."
"A puppy is quite the birthday gift."
"Yeah, but when Lando did that video with those puppies, I could see that look of longing for a puppy, but with our schedules it was not practical for us to get a puppy. Now that things have settled a bit, I want to get him the puppy I know he wants."
Richard reached into a drawer and handed her a manila envelope. "Everything you need is in there."
"Thanks again for this. I was beginning to think I wasn't going to find a puppy in time."
"It's not a problem, y/n." Richard came from around the desk, "Let me walk you out."
The two quietly talked about how the season was going as they walked to the front of the house, but the feeling of anxiety was there. And that anxiety feeling was still there when she knocked on the door of Alex's apartment to drop the puppy and supplies off.
"Alex, please tell me I'm not crazy for getting Lando a puppy for his birthday."
Alex, who gently scratched behind the puppy's ear, "Oh! You're for sure crazy-"
From further in the apartment, Lily shouted, "Ignore him, y/n. I think it's cute you got Lando a dog for his birthday."
Alex watched as the woman shifted her weight from left to right, mumbling under her breath and waving her arms around frantically. "Y/n, listen. Lando has been wanting a puppy for the longest time, so this is a good gift."
"You think so?"
"Yes! Now head home before he finds out you've been here."
The reassurance from Alex made the anxiety she was feeling fall off her shoulders. And as she walked down the hall towards the elevator, she crossed her fingers' hoping Alex was right because at this point, there was no going back.
One of the hardest things she's ever done was keep this big of a secret from Lando. There were a few times were she nearly slipped but thankfully caught herself. But Lando clocked her nervousness and made a mental note of her odd behavior. It wasn't like y/n to act this way, so did something happen? Did she cheat and was hiding it from him?
As it got closer to his birthday, she got more fidgety, which again was not like her. Y/n wouldn't cheat on him, would she? No. She wouldn't. He knows her better than herself. Maybe it was something else, and his mind was just making things up.
Lando woke the morning of his birthday and instinctively reached over to the other side of the bed and noticed you weren't there. Instead, was a note.
If you wake up and I'm not there, I only went to pick up your birthday present from Alex. This is around the time you say, 'she didn't have to get me anything,' but I did. I wanted to. I'll be home shortly.
Love, y/n.
He laid there wondering what y/n got him that she had to go pick up from Alex. It had to have been something big that she couldn't have just kept at their place. But then again, if she did keep it at their place, he probably would've found it and ruined the surprise.
"Listen, when I left this morning daddy was still sleeping, so we got to be quiet."
daddy? what?
The door to their shared bedroom slowly opened and the head of his girlfriend peaked from around the corner to check to see if he was still sleeping and when he wasn't, the door quickly closed.
Lando tossed the covers back, walking over to the door. There stood y/n, but his eyes instantly went to the puppy in her arms. "Uh... who's dog is that?"
"You weren't supposed to be awake, but he's yours."
"Mine? What do you mean?"
"Remember when I said I had a business meeting back in England and couldn't go to the Brazilian gp? I did go back to England, but it wasn't for a business meeting. It was to go get this little fella."
"You got me a dog for my birthday?"
"Yeah," she nodded her head, handing the puppy over to Lando. "I could tell you wanted one when you did that video with puppies at MTC, so I went above and beyond to get you a puppy."
"Does he have a name?"
"I've been calling him Chuck because an actor from a tv show I watched as a kid and their name was Chuck Norris."
"Chuck. His name is Chuck."

âI still cannot believe youâre abandoning me.âÂ
Charles shoved another box of your things into the boot of your car rather huffily, as if to reiterate just how unhappy he was.Â
âIâm not abandoning you, Iâm moving out of your apartment.â You sighed, rolling your eyes playfully at him. You passed him the last box off the ground, wiping your hands off on your shorts before propping them on your hips.Â
âThat is quite literally the same thing.â He mirrored your stance in total seriousness, frown unwavering. âAnd itâs not my apartment, itâs yours now too. Your home.âÂ
Youâd been living with Charles for a while now, having been suddenly evicted from your own place three, almost four years ago. With nowhere else to go, youâd turned to your best friend, and Charles had welcomed you with open arms, giving you a home when youâd needed it most.Â
There were many good things about living with Charlesâhe liked to cook (which boded well with you, seeing as you were no master chef yourself. Except for when heâd gone through a questionable phase of combining cuisines that did not go well together.), he was respectful of set boundaries and agreed upon rules. You had the same taste in shows and movies, which made for little fighting when it came to deciding on what to watch.Â
But most notably, he loved to play the piano. It was a hobby heâd picked up during long days spent staying at home, and he was good at it too. An electronic keyboard when heâd first started out, just to see if it was something he was serious about, but as he zoomed through the basics with ease, heâd splurged on a gorgeous white piano that stood proudly in the living room.Â
Soon enough, it wasnât unusual for the apartment to be full of music, beautiful songs of Charlesâ own composing.Â
He played whenever he had the feeling. Whenever he had something on his mind, whenever he was bored, anything, heâd spend hours at the piano, playing, playing, playing. Some mightâve called it annoying, but not you. You found it rather soothing.Â
It had very quickly become a habit of yours to fall asleep listening to Charles play. Something about it seemed to always relax you just enough to the point where you could pretty much fall asleep anywhere if he was at the bench.Â
Your favorite spot was on the sofa with a big blanket, watching him get lost in the notes until you drifted off. More often than not, you could rarely get a good nightâs sleep without Charlesâ accompanimentâyour very own version of white noise.Â
But truth be told, this past year of living together with Charles had been trickier than the first couple. You couldnât pinpoint the exact moment things began to change, but something had definitely shifted between you.Â
Youâd been trying to write it off just the two of you being very close, but youâd been dancing on the line of close friends and more than friends for a long time. Falling asleep together cuddled on the sofa, lingering touches whilst you were in the same room and in passing, hugs that lasted a little too long to be considered normal.Â
The more your feelings for Charles grew, the more worried you became. Worried about what, you werenât exactly sure. All you knew was you didnât want to lose the longest and best friendship youâd ever had because you went and fell in love.
âI know. But I think itâs well past time I get out of your hair and try being on my own for once.â You said softly, stepping in to fold yourself into Charlesâ arms.Â
Most of that was true. You did feel like you needed to live by yourself for a chance, to see what it was like to be fully independent in your adult life. Youâd moved in with Charles when you were twenty two, and you were twenty five now. It was time for you to venture out on your own.Â
But the uncertainty of falling in love with your best friend was definitely also a contributing factor.Â
He made a displeased sound at your words, but tucked you under his chin nonetheless. âI donât want you to get out of my hair. My hair likes it with you here.âÂ
âI live fifteen minutes away, Cha. Iâm not moving across the country. You and your hair can come over anytime.â You scoffed, giving him a gentle poke in the ribs. âAnd Iâll come over here all the time too, you know that.âÂ
âFine, fine. I donât know what I am supposed to do with your empty room now, but Iâll figure it out. Maybe I will take up scrapbooking. Knitting. Needlepoint, maybe. Turn it into a craft room.âÂ
âMaybe you can turn it into a music room. Move the keyboard in there, your piano.âÂ
âAh, bien entendu, my piano. How will you ever fall asleep without my sweet, sweet melodies?âÂ
âI think I will manage just fine.â You chuckled.Â
Charles held you at armsâ length, dark brows furrowing as he scowled. âWhat Iâm hearing is you donât love me anymore.âÂ
Oh, if only he knew.Â
You smiled instead, patting his cheek good-naturedly. âCome on, you drama queen. I want to move in before the sun goes down.âÂ
Charles went full protection mode the second all your belongings had made it safely inside the apartment, intently checking every lock, window, door hinge, cabinetânot an inch of the apartment went uninspected by him. When he seemed fairly satisfied with his safety checks, he returned to where you were unpacking kitchen items over by the oven.
âEverything up to your standards?â You asked, pulling out a stack of plates wrapped in brown paper. Charles shuffled over, easing them out of your hands and unwrapping them to help put them up in the cabinet. âNo one is going to break in through my window tonight?â
âDonât even joke about that.â He grumbled, chucking the balled up paper at you gently. âEverything I checked is fine. You will be safe here.âÂ
Food was simple when it came time for dinnerâtakeout on the floor of your living room, because you hadnât had the time to go shopping for a coffee table yet. Or a dining room table. Or even chairs, really. All you had were some pillows and an overturned cardboard box to put the food on.Â
Charles had insisted on helping you furnish the whole place before you moved in but youâd declined, saying that you wanted to get a feel for the place before filling it with everything. The last time it would be this empty would be the day you moved out.Â
He seemed a little quiet the rest of the night, but you didnât press it until after dinner, whilst he was helping you with the washing up. Well, helping was a strong word.Â
âYouâve been drying that plate for ages now.â You observed, tilting your head at him thoughtfully. Charles inhaled sharply, shaking his head like heâd been snapped out of a stupor. He glanced down at the completely dry plate, then back up at you blankly. âWhatâre you thinking about?âÂ
âYouâre really going to be gone.â
âYou say that like I told you Iâve only got days to live. I wonât be gone, Cha. Iâll be around.â You chuckled, flicking dish soap bubbles in his direction. Charles responded by flinging his towel at you, cracking a smile. You liked it when he smiled, hated it when he frowned. He was still unfairly attractive, but it wasnât Charlesâ scowl that made you fall in love with him.Â
âWe can spend the day together anytime, you can come over whenever you want, and if it makes you feel any better, I will give you your very own key.âÂ
That seemed to put him a little more in higher spirits.Â
âWhat will you ever do without me?â He wondered out loud, feigning a thoughtful expression.Â
âProbably clean up a lot less. Be able to take a shower without running out of hot water halfway through. Oh! Have a bottle of shampoo last more than a month because someoneânot naming names, of course, wonât use it because theyâve run out of theirs. Not have to fight forââÂ
âAlright, alright, I get it!â Charles huffed, grabbing you by the shoulders and promptly shoving your face into his chest to stop you from talking.Â
You grinned against the softness of his hoodie. âShall I go on?âÂ
âNo, no you shouldnât.â His hold on you loosened, but you stayed right where you were, wrapping your arms around his torso. âJust admit it. Youâll miss me.âÂ
âI will miss you.â You said softly, pressing your cheek into the crook of his neck. If there was something Charles was unbelievably good at (besides literally anything heâd ever tried), it was giving the best hugs. Something about them made you feel safe, like nothing and nobody could ever hurt you as long as you were in his arms.Â
âYou already know how much Iâm going to miss having you around.âÂ
âYeah, I am pretty great.âÂ
A laugh rumbled through his chest. âYou are.âÂ
âYouâve been the best roommate I couldâve asked for. Thank you for everything.â Your words were muffled between the two of you, and you were glad for it, because he didnât seem to notice the waver in your tone. But he did squeeze you a little tighter, so maybe he did hear you. âI love you, Cha.âÂ
Charlesâ voice seemed to waver just a bit too. âI love you too.âÂ
âOkay, okay, you really need to leave. Go before I change my mind and make you stay.â You blurted, pushing him away playfully. It was better than letting him see you get emotional.Â
âIs that a promise?âÂ
âNo, itâs a threat. Go home. I will see you soon.â You gave his hand one last squeeze, nodding reassuringly to rid him of the crease between his brows. âDonât worry about me. Go, get some rest.âÂ
It was only then that he seemed satisfied enough to leave, but even then, he cast another backwards glance towards you on his way down the hall, as if he was waiting for you to beckon him back. You just smiled as best you could.Â
Youâd get over it. You had to. There was still a lot you needed to get done before you called it a night.Â
It wasnât until you were getting ready to go to bed that you started to feel lonely. You and Charles had your respective bedtime routines, but they always intertwined.Â
You never liked being the one to turn off all the lights in the apartment because the switch was at the end of the hallway opposite from your bedrooms, so he knew to do it because you hated running back through the darkness after flipping the switch.Â
He always filled a glass with water for late night sipping, but never remembered to actually bring it to his room until he was already in bed, so you always grabbed it for him so he wouldnât have to make the trek back out the kitchen. Â
The bathroom counter was where youâd find each other the most, terrible jokes and funny stories told muffled through toothpaste bubbles, even though you couldâve just waited until you were finished to tell each other. Youâd flick water at him as you washed your face because he took up too much space at the sink, heâd turn off the tap in retaliation, things like that.Â
Sometimes Charles would stay up later playing video games with his friends, or take some extra time to practice piano, so you wouldnât get to do your well oiled machine routine, but heâd always take the extra second to pop into your room to say goodnight when he heard you bustling around, even if he was in the middle of something.Â
The times you fell asleep on the sofa to Charlesâ playing the piano, heâd camp out at the other end of the sofa for the night, or at the very least made sure you were covered with a blanket if he went to sleep in his own room.Â
It was something youâd grown accustomed to over the years, oftentimes the well-needed end to a not so great day. Charles never failed to put a smile on your face, even with something as small and mundane as a bedtime routine.Â
But there was none of that as you ran through your routine this time.Â
You didnât hear him shuffling around over in the other room, the muffled sounds of his shouts as he played his games, and most of all, you didnât hear him and his piano.Â
Because there was no Charles. Of course there wasnât. You were in this new place that you hadnât had quite nearly enough of a chance to get used to yet, alone, and it was finally settling in.Â
Suddenly moving out and away from him seemed like the worst decision in the world.Â
You knew it was only the first night. You had to give yourself a chance to reacclimate, and that would take time. So you inhaled a deep breath, trying to get as comfy as you could for a long, probably sleepless night ahead.Â
It was nearing four in the morning when you finally decided to give up and call Charles. Part of you thought he might not even pick up the phone, because he was probably asleep. Any sane person would be sleeping right now.Â
Much to your surprise, he answered on the second ring.Â
âWhy are you awake?â You asked, maybe a bit harshly.Â
âUm, you are the one who called me? Why are you awake?â He replied, groggy voice still teasing. His accent always grew thicker when he was sleepy. You thought it was adorable. âYou cannot sleep, can you?âÂ
â...No.â Your voice grew smaller. You felt embarrassed at the fact that you couldnât even make it one full night without Charles around. âI justâŠI wanted to hear your voice, I guess. I miss you already, Cha.âÂ
Charles fell silent for a few moments, the only sound on his side of the line being his gentle exhales. âI miss you too. Do you want me to come over? I can stay the night, if you want.âÂ
âNo. No, you donât need to do that.â You said softly. âCan you just talk to me?âÂ
This was also something that had become somewhat of a ritual when either of you couldnât sleep.Â
Youâd tiptoe into each otherâs rooms quiet as a mouse, slipping into bed beside the other. Charles always stirred when he felt the bed dip under your weight, half asleep but still reaching out to pull you against his chest like it was second nature. On the occasions when he came into your room, youâd feel him tuck himself close to you, nosing against any part of you he could find with a content sigh.Â
There was no rhyme or reason to the things youâd talk about in those moments, but eventually, somehow, youâd both end up asleep, usually fairly quickly. Maybe it was the extra added comfort of each other that helped, you could never tell.Â
It wasnât unusual to wake up a jumble of limbs tangled together, and neither of you ever addressed it either. Just went on with your business as usual, never talking about it because it was just something you did. To help each other sleep, of course.Â
Another thing that really blurred the line between friends and more.Â
Charles hummed a noncommittal sound, soft and fond like he always was around you. âIâll do you one better. How about I play some music for you?âÂ
âYes, please. Thank you.â You sighed, relieved. He knew what you needed without you even having to ask.Â
You heard him get up, footsteps padding along until there was a thud and some shuffling coming from Charlesâ side. A few warm up scales in and you were already feeling a little less anxious, letting yourself get comfortable.Â
âAny requests from the audience?âÂ
âBeen working on anything new?â You yawned, nuzzling a little deeper back into your pillow.Â
âI have, actually. Itâs stillâfuck, how do you say itâŠa work in progress?â
âAnything you play is perfect.â
âYou flatter me.â He snorted. âAlright, here goes nothing.â Â
He began to play. You knew jack shit about music, so there wasnât much you could think of to describe how it sounded, but you could describe how it felt. You could almost feel the emotion pouring from his playing, even through the scratchy quality of the speaker.Â
It felt like something youâd hear in the background of a movie montage, lilting and delicate and warm notes swirling together to create a bright melody, and you couldnât help but let your mind wander.Â
Memories of good times with Charles flashed through your headâall the long days and even longer nights youâd spent together because you thrived in each otherâs company, cooking together, binging Netflix shows until you both passed out on the sofa.Â
Hushed laughing during dinners at fancy restaurants that Charles could get into by flashing his name, soft conversations accompanied with expensive food and even more expensive wine.Â
Day trips up the coast with the top down on the car, pushing the speed limit just to feel an ounce of the freedom that it could give you. Walking through Monte Carlo on late night gelato runs, switching flavors because you both enjoyed each otherâs choice more than your own.Â
Most of all, you thought of the love you felt for Charles, ever since youâd first met him. Youâd never been one to believe in the concept of soulmates, but fuck, it was so easy to think of him as yours. Never had you felt as much for someone as you did for him.Â
God, why were you even thinking of those things?Â
It would never happen. Any love that Charles had for you would be strictly platonic, limited to however much one could love their best friend.Â
Surely heâd drawn inspiration from something else when heâd composed the beautiful piece. You werenât sure if you wanted to know.Â
Soon enough, youâd drifted off like you always did when Charles played, coincidentally right before he came to a lingering stop.Â
Had you been awake, you wouldâve heard him say that the beautiful piece had been inspired by you. Instead you were fast asleep, still none the wiser to anything. Maybe it was a good thing. You might not have believed it if youâd heard him.Â
-------
Charles was on your doorstep first thing in the morning, coffee and pastries in hand when you opened the door for him.Â
âHello, good morning, your savior is here. And with breakfast!â He chirped, coming to just enough of a halt for you to slide an arm around his shoulders in a hug and grab one of the drinks out of the tray before he swept past you.
Bright morning sunlight poured into the open area, washing the whole place aglow. A warm breeze floated in through the ajar window, rattling the shutters only slightly, and you could hear the all too familiar sounds of the city in the morning coming from the streets below. It was a gorgeous picture of peace; one of the apartmentâs many fun quirks that convinced you to go for it in the first place.Â
The only thing that mightâve rivaled the beauty of the moment was Charles standing at the window, leaning against the sill drinking his coffee while the breeze ruffled his hair. His back was to you as he checked out the view, but even the mere image of him here was nice.Â
You sipped your own coffee, smiling to yourself when you realized Charles remembered exactly how you took it. You didnât even need to look inside the bag to know they were your favorite pastries from the bakery down the street from your former apartment that both you and Charles loved. He was always thoughtful like that. Things like remembering your favorite foods and drinks, and going out of his way to get them as a little pick-me-up.Â
It seemed wrong to ruin the moment, but you felt like you had to say something.Â
âIâm sorry for waking you up last night.â You sighed, taking a cross-legged seat on a pillow.Â
Charles turned away from the window, shaking his head quickly. He took a seat on the floor next to you, long legs stretching out towards your crossed ones to nudge a sneaker against your socked foot. âThereâs nothing to be sorry about, Iâm glad you called me.âÂ
âRight, but itâs kind of pathetic, isnât it? First time on my own and I didnât even last a whole night.âÂ
âNot pathetic.â He insisted, entirely firm in his words. He set his cup down as if it could strengthen his point. âIt is a change, definitely. You canât expect yourself to get used to such a big change immediately. It takes time, you know.âÂ
You messed with the lid of your cup, picking at the plastic with a scowl. âI know. But I canât always come running to you whenever I need help. Itâs not fair to you to have to keep rescuing me every time I need saving.âÂ
âOkayâŠâ He trailed off, stretching out the last syllable in confusion. âI feel this is about something more than just last night. We can talk about it, if you would like?â
âI donât know what it is.â You huffed. âI thought I was ready to be on my own, but maybe Iâm not. Maybe I donât know Iâm doing and Iâll never figure it out, andââÂ
âWhoa, whoa, slow down. Where is this all coming from?âÂ
âI donât know,â You repeated, bordering on a whine. âBut what I do know is that I canât always keep relying on you for everything. Itâs not good for me, or for you.âÂ
âYou know, you could always just move back home if youâre truly not ready to do things on your own.â Charles offered, taking a casual sip of his own drink.
Home. He said it so casually, like home was with him instead of this new place youâd chosen to make yours. In a way, Charles was your home. Safety, comfort, loveâall the things that made something home, you felt with him.Â
That was the problem. You didnât feel right relying on him for all those things, not without him being aware of how you actually felt about him. It seemed like too much of a burden to put on a friend, even one as perfect as Charles.Â
His eyes met yours over the rim and he shrugged. âI still donât know why you were so insistent on moving out in the first place.âÂ
You sighed, again. There werenât many ways you could make yourself any clearer. Other than telling Charles one of the real reasons why you had to leave, which again, was more of a last resort (hopefully not at all) type of thing. âIt was timeââÂ
âIt was time for you to venture out on your own, yes, I know. But it doesnât seem to be working out so well right now, does it not?â The last sentence seemed to slip out of Charlesâ mouth before he knew what he was saying, because his mouth snapped shut right afterward. âIâmâIâm sorry, I didnât mean for it to come out like that. I donât want to argue.âÂ
But what had been done was done, what had been said was out there for you to know. Your coffee suddenly left a bitter taste in your mouth, and the traffic from outside became glaringly loud. The once peaceful atmosphere had been shattered now that you knew Charlesâ true thoughts on it all.Â
You stood up, letting your feet take you across the room from him. âNo. Tell me more, Charles. Tell me how you really feel.âÂ
His nose wrinkled at the use of his full name. You never called him Charles unless you were upset with him, which wasnât that often. Even hearing it come out of your own mouth seemed foreign.Â
That seemed to change his reaction, because he stood too instead, doubling down on his words. âOkay. Yes, that is how I feel about you leaving. You barely even talked to me about it, and the next thing I knew, you were packing all your things into boxes! I didnât understand where thisâthis sudden desire to leave came from. I still donât.â
âYou donât have to understand it. Itâs already done.âÂ
âDid Iâdid I do something wrong?â
You almost faltered. Almost.
âDid you ever think maybe me wanting to leave had nothing to do with you?âÂ
âHonestly? No. It feels like it has everything to do with me. It feels like you moved out because you didnât want to be around me anymore!â Charles exclaimed. âAnd I have kept my mouth shut, Iâve been trying to be supportive of your decision, but I think I have a right to know. Am I why you wanted to leave so badly?âÂ
âThatâsâŠpart of it.â You admitted. Charles froze, brows flying up towards his hairline. âBut not because of anything you did. Not because of the reason youâre thinking of.âÂ
âI donât really see any other explanation. And I am sorry, but that is a shit excuse. I wouldâve thought that you of all people would tell me the truth.â He didnât sound angry, just disappointed and a little hurt. Somehow that felt worse. Youâd rather him be mad at you than hurt by you.Â
âI didnât want to move out.â You said firmly.Â
âThen why did you?âÂ
âI had to! IâI couldnât live there anymore.âÂ
âBut why?â He sounded desperate, begging for you to clue him in to any reason, anything at all that would help him understand. And god, as scared as you were of changing things by telling Charles how you really felt about him, you were infinitely more scared of losing him for good if you didnât.Â
âBecause Iâm fucking in love with you, Charles!â You blurted, finally. âI couldnât live with you any longer, keeping this huge secret all the time, because it truly made me feel like I was about to explode. I just couldnât do it anymoreâpretend like everything was alright when every time I looked at you, all I could think about was how I felt about you! How much I felt for you.â Your voice rose with every word, emotion lacing your tone.Â
You could feel the tears burning your eyes, threatening to fall no matter how much you willed them not to. âI just thought, maybe if we lived apart, if we didnât see each other all the time, maybe those feelings would go away.âÂ
Charles blinked at you slowly. He scrubbed a hand over his cheek, across his mouth, letting it disappear into the neckline of his hoodie as he continued the motion near his jaw. Still, he said nothing. You werenât sure if it was a good sign or a bad one, but still you continued.Â
âSo no, it wasnât because of anything you did. Or maybe it was, for making it so fucking easy to fall in love with you. I donât know. Iâm sorry if I made you feel like you couldnât say anything to me, but Iâm not sorry for making the decision on my own. It was for the best.â
There it was, out there in the open at last. It felt like a proverbial weight lifted off your shoulders, but at the same time like a thousand rocks sinking to the bottom of your stomach, because he wasnât saying anything. Maybe this was it. Maybe this was how youâd fuck up the best friendship youâd ever had.Â
Charles was silent for the longest time before he replied, and when he did, his voice was quieter than youâd ever heard it before. It felt unnerving. âYou couldâve just told me.âÂ
âTold you?â You had to fight the urge to let out a bitter, watery laugh. âTelling your best friend youâve fallen in love with him isnât just something you mention at the bathroom sink one night.âÂ
âIt is, if he feels the same way about you.âÂ
A coldness crept down your neck, shooting through your veins like youâd just had a bucket of ice cold water dumped over your head.Â
âNo youâre notâyou don't...you can't.â You whispered, disbelieving.
Charlesâ brows furrowed in confusion. âWhat, do you want me to prove it?âÂ
You couldnât give him an answer even if you wanted to. You werenât sure if you could trust yourself to say a damn word, just in case this was all a dream and you'd wake up any second, still alone, still without him there.
He mustâve taken your silence as a yes to his question, because he crossed the room in three strides, took your face in firm hands, and he kissed you.Â
Despite your utter shock, you managed to kiss him back clumsily, fingers curling into his hoodie tightly. Charles kissed you like he was afraid to let you go, like youâd slip through his fingers if he wasnât careful enough.
A guiding hand curled around the back of your neck, angling your head so he could deepen the kiss, but only for a few seconds before he broke away, panting. His forehead stayed pressed against yours, soulful green eyes boring into your own in total seriousness.
âDo you believe me now?âÂ
âMaybe.â You breathed, letting your nose bump against his gently. This was not a dream. Charles was real and here and one hell of a kisser (just as you suspected).
âI am in love with you.â He murmured, stroking his thumb over your cheek fondly. âI have been for a long time. And I never thought you would feel the same way.âÂ
âI love you, Cha.â You were suddenly brought back to last night, when youâd uttered the same words to him. Only this time, they had a whole different meaning to them.Â
This time, you knew Charles loved you in the same way you loved him.

SHIFTING ISN'T SPECIAL
please bare with me on this one bc it might be a bit longer than i expected (and excuse my very bad title-naming skills đ)
in this essay i will try to put down in words exactly what i realised today as i started my first day into reprogramming my mind, something that iâm doing while following reya singhâs method. what is that?
shifting IS easy.
yes, i know everybody says it, but itâs the truth and iâm not telling you this as someone who shifts regularly to her drs, because i donât (yet!). however, it did just click in my mind why people always say it and mean it. and i feel incredibly stupid for not understanding it waaay earlier than just now, 4 years into my journey.
now, let me walk you through the thought process behind this.
in reyaâs 4-day method for reprogramming your mind, she instructs to write a list of your beliefs and non-beliefs. this may sound really silly and kinda useless at first - believe me, i woke up this morning thinking âwhat exactly am i supposed to do after that?â - but thereâs a valid reason for it, which is to help you delete from your mind the idea that shifting is like a superpower thatâs simply not for everyone and very hard to reach, when that is not the case at all!
in my own beliefs list, iâve written âi am capable of shiftingâ right in between âi can speak englishâ, âi can write and readâ and âi can eat --â (and some other things like âi canât eat glutenâ, bc i have celiac disease, âi can dreamâ, we all do! and âi can lucid dreamâ). you see where iâm going with this? iâm putting shifting in the same category as things we all normally do, that we sometimes donât even think about doing since theyâre such a natural activity. to this list i could add âi can breatheâ, because we do it automatically, without even realising unless we focus on it. the same can be said for drinking or eating really, if youâre angry or thirsty you just go and get whatever pleases you the most and not dwell on it.
in the non-beliefs list, iâve written obvious things like santa and the easter bunny (which isnât common here in italy tbf but yeah) and sentences like âi canât swimâ, âi canât drawâ, âi canât eat strawberriesâ and in between them also âi donât fear shiftingâ. here, the point is that all these listed beliefs are stuff i know for a fact to be false: i can swim perfectly, i am an artist and i love strawberries + iâm not allergic to them or anything. by placing shifting there, i'm stating that just like i KNOW i can swim or whatever, i also KNOW i'm not scared of shifting.
youâre literally gaslighting your subconscious mind into believing what is real for a fact and what isnât.
after writing down this list, which can be done on paper just like on your preferred device, i reread everything twice explaining to myself why i chose these things and why they are beliefs or not. thatâs how i realised that shifting is easy. when people talk about it âclickingâ they werenât lying!
shifting isnât special, this is what the list thing tries to prove you. itâs not special because, just like breathing and eating and reading, we do it subconsciously everyday. take your own first language: you speak it naturally without having to doubt it, and if you know a second language well enough like i know english for instance (my mother-tongue is italian) then you can even start talking to yourself and think in that language without having to search up translations.
whatâs the difference with shifting then?
the difference is that shifting hasnât been taught to us in the same way as a language has been, all throughout school. the same thing goes for reading and writing: we read and write naturally because weâve been taught how to when we were young and itâs now engraved in our brains, just like with learning our first language, which is something we normally do thanks to our teachers, our families and the people around us, of course. this doesnât happen with shifting in most cases, as we all know, which means itâs normal for it to take a bit to grasp as a concept and existing thing/activity. itâs natural, most of us human beings just donât know about it, nor that weâre capable of doing it.
this is why i said itâs not special: just like breathing, everybody can do it (and so do you)!
going back to the non-beliefs list; i should also add that as a society we usually are taught what to believe in from a young age, and specifically what is believed to be a fantasy, a dream, or something real. as grown-ups, though, we have the right to believe in whatever we want, like shifting. as a realistic person, i understand that some people may have a hard time believing something as great as shifting could be true, because it genuinely doesnât sound like it! so yes, this is also a factor that can and does make it harder for someone to trust their guts and expect to wake up somewhere thatâs only fictional here.
shifting clicks for everybody at different times, but i hope this post will help some of you here understand it better and know that what more experienced shifters say always has a meaning, you just need the time to properly reflect on it to get it!
when it clicked for me a few hours ago i felt a huge rush of adrenaline and happiness bc yes, i can actually shift. iâm just overcomplicating it for no reason and so many of you are doing the same!
itâs okay though, weâll all get there <3
(psa: if you saw any grammar mistakes or anything NO YOU DIDN'T and also please don't mind if this rant doesn't sound logical, i tried my best to explain myself like i wanted to đ„Č)

ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
Nate had never been more pissed in his life. Ever. You'd blatantly disobeyed him. Well, not technically. No technically, you hadn't been told anything, but he'd have figured you weren't so dense as to go and visit Shane motherfucking Crestin in the motherfucking ER !
Honestly. It's like you had one braincell and all it told you was to piss him off.
And fuck him. He definitely saw that in your eyes the last time.
Or was that the molly?
Probably the molly.
But whatever. The fact was, you wanted to fuck him, and he wanted to fuck you, and he had no idea why you wanted him out of your life if that was the case. Wasn't that fate? Two people want something so bad, they should end up doing it, no? Not going and visiting the reason they couldn't do it in the ER.
Yeah, he decided.
Yes. They. Should.
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
He'd figured you would avoid him like the plague, anyway. So he didn't care if it reached you or not that he was helping McKay host a party. So imagine his surprise when, after about two months of no contact, you showed up at his party.
"Whoa."
You frowned. "Excuse me?'
"What happened to 'get the fuck out of my life, Nate?' What, were you just full of it?"
"Dude. If me being here bothers you that much, I'll just fucking leav-"
"Jeez, don't be a baby, short stuff.", he cooed, patting your head before slinging an arm around you. "C'mon, let's do shots."
"Hey, whoa, whoa, none of this friendliness."
He rolled his eyes, removing his hand from you. "Fine. C'mon. I missed you."
And the problem was, he did. He actually fucking missed you. Which was the weirdest thing to happen to him since... well, birth. It wasn't anything in particular, it wasn't even the fact that you were easy on the eyes.
He, like a fucking simp, just liked you being around him.
With as much trepidation as a sycophant scorned by his master, he gently, reverently, offered you a shot. "For old times' sake?"
You rolled your eyes, taking it from him. "For old times' sake? Like, the time you got me drunk at school?'
He smiled, his hand slowly back around your shoulder as he tugged you closer, kissing your temple. "We could always go back, y'know?", he murmured next to your ear. "Get high on the bleachers again."
"No."
"C'mon, we haven't hung out in two months. Ditch these fakes. I'm the fun one, anyway."
Jesus.
He took a long drag of his vape, the smoke bombarding your face. He proferred it to you and frowned when you declined. "Why not?"
"I don't vape."
"Are you one of those bitches that says 'smoke a real cigarette'?"
"No, I don't smoke at all."
He rolled his eyes. "We're going to the bleachers."
It was weird, to say the least, the air between you two back at the bleachers. You sat, looking up at the sky, the grass, anywhere but his eyes, and he sat with his head on your lap.
Silence covered the two of you until he sighed. "Can we just pick up where we left off?"
"And where was that?"
"With me almost eating you out."
You scoffed. You wouldn't have done that if you thought he was being serious. You wouldn't have done that if you were entirely sober. But you didn't and you weren't, so you scoffed. "Right. Yeah. Sure."
"I'm not joking. You're making this harder than it needs to be. There isn't any ulterior motive, this is just... boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Girl likes boy-"
"Debatable.", you muttered, but he ignored it.
"-Boy wants to fuck girl, girl wants to fuck boy, boy fucks girl. Why are you adding shit? Do you want drama? Is that what this is? Because we could do drama. I could do drama like you've never fucking seen before!"
In Nate speak, that meant he had a big dick and he wanted you to know.
"Look. It's just too complicated. You've- there's too much-"
"Forget it all. 'Kay? Just you and me.", he replied immediately, sitting up.
"Because you quote-unquote 'love' me."
"Exactly that." His lips found yours, and surprisingly, this time, you actually had a spine and pulled away.
"What the FUCK?"
Huffing, he rolled his eyes and stroked your cheek as he shifted and knelt down. "Can we skip the part where you scream 'what the fuck, what the fuck' and push me away and get to the part where you admit you want me? I've had a long day."
Seeing him down there did nothing to make you feel safer.
"Nate-"
"Jesus fuck, Y/N, please, just, for the love of god-", he muttered, as if you were being an inconvenience at the moment and not him, the asshat on his knees. "Would you just relax?"
"Look, Y/N. I love you.", he said, and his hands slowly slid up to the hem of your shirt, his thumb rubbing the skin right under it. "Let me show you."
"You don't love me. Stop saying that."
"Fine, then. I want you. And stop telling me you don't want me, like it's a mortal sin or something.", he warned, gripping the backs of your thighs.
Sadly, you couldn't entirely blame this on the molly this time.
It definitely contributed to the decision, but mostly to the fact that it made every single touch of his explode with a robust... flavour that you couldn't replicate even if you tried.
He smiled up at you so softly you'd think he was on his knees to propose. But no. Instead of opening up a little box, he opened the fly to your pants.
"Can you look at me, please?"
You sighed, looking down. "What?"
"You really don't look like you're against this. I'd even go so far as to say you want me, but you're too much of a pussy to admit it."
You did want him. BUT. You were against this. Because it was wrong. But you were letting him kiss up your thighs, bite at your lower abdomen.
Meaning it was the world according to Nate and it both infuriated you and turned you on.
FUCK.
Hums came from both your mouth and his, and before you knew it, your fingers felt nothing but the locks of his hair, pulling so hard there was no way he wasn't in pain. And he must have been, because gently, so seamlessly, he trailed his hand up to yours, removing it from his hair and interlocking it with his own.
But he didn't pause. His tongue continued doing... well, whatever the hell it was doing that made you want to stab the Earth for being able to produce Nate Jacobs as well as praise it for... well, being able to produce Nate Jacobs.
"You're a virgin?", he asked, breathless, raising a brow in incredulity.
You'd be lying if you said your brain even registered his question - registered anything but his tongue and lips.
"Are you a virgin?"
"Why? Don't tell me this is still a test to see if I'm easy or not-"
"It's not.", he assured, reaching up slowly, and then kissing your cheek of all fucking places. One of his hands trailed back down and into you while the other one immediately closed your mouth, though you had no idea why. It was a fucking desolate high school football field. No one was going to hear anyway.
He grinned, pressing his forehead against yours as he added another finger, curling them as he worked into you. "Shh, shh, shh.", he murmured, after probably feeling the results of you trying not to lose your shit beneath his palm.
"See? We go great together."
You screamed. But it didn't quite carry.
He frowned in confusion for a moment when you made a muffled noise and then muttered an 'ah' as he gently removed his palm from your mouth.
"That's not..."
"Hm? That's not what?"
You could have killed yourself right there, because he smirked is what he did. He smirked when you couldn't finish (and barely even start) your sentences.
"That's not even remotely..."
You were stalling. That was clear. Why? You didn't know. There was no logical reason. He was already fucking inside you, there was no point in backing out of this now.
But there was reason to hesitate.
He sighed, licking his lips and shaking his head in disappointment, brushing hair from your face. "Hey."
"What?"
"If you don't fuck me right now, I will lose my shit. I will cut myself. I will play Russian Roulette again. That work for you?"
Oh, this sick, sick, sick, SICK motherfucker.
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
Why you did it? Question for the ages.
You should've said no. You should've gone home. You didn't go home, though, not even after the fact. You probably should have.
Instead, you found yourself back at Fezco's store. Not voluntarily, either, it just seemed your car was as drained as you were, and you forgot to fill it back up.
"Rue?", you called out into what you imagined to be an abyss. Her voice appeared like light at the end of a tunnel. "Hey."
"You high?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"I need someone to pick me up."
"Maddy's not free?"
"I didn't check."
"Well.", she groaned, shifting around, clearly in some sort of drug-induced discomfort, "You should. I don't wanna kill you, y'know, you mean so fucking much to me."
The sarcasm in her voice was mildly hurtful, but hey. At least she cared enough not to kill you.
More than Nate had ever cared.
"Okay."
So, of course, you called Cassie. Because no fucking way were you calling Maddy to come pick you up from the store owned by the local dealer, which was suspiciously close to the party thrown by her ex.
The car ride with her was smooth and lovely and peaceful. Because she was smooth and lovely and peaceful.
"You think your car will be safe, out there, all night?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I told Fez. He knows what to do."
"Y/N, I... I've noticed you've been off, like, the last term or so."
You did not need her therapy session right now.
"Nah, I'm fine."
"You're not.", she chuckled, nervously, shaking her head as she slowed down at the red light. "You seem on edge. I think it's cause of him."
"Him?"Â WHAT? How the fuck did this ditz know?
"Yeah. Like, I don't know, maybe you're in love with him, and you think it's, like... forbidden, because he's a bad influence or something, but you just kinda look... strung out. Like there's a huge secret you're keeping."
She was supposed to be clueless about what was going on around her. Isn't that the thing they say about hot blondes?
"Love? In love? With who?"
"Fezco, of course. I get it, he's a dealer, but he's also hot, and I guess, let's face it, he's quite nice for a criminal."
Oh, thank god. The dumb blonde theory stands.
"I'm not in love with Fez."
"Then why are you so... off?"
"I...", you sighed, deciding to stick to the truth as much as safely possible. "I got in with some bad people during spring break."
The look of concern on her face made you want to apologize and buy her whatever she wanted, or maybe even confess to every fucking sinful thought you'd ever had.
"What? Oh, my god, what? Like, hard drugs and shit?"
"More like guns and shit."
"Y/N, WHAT?!"
"Yeah, it was fucked up, but I'm out of it now, though, so you don't have to worry, okay, Cass? I'm peachy. I'm great, honest! Hey, it's turning amber."
She frowned, turning back to the road in front of her. "You sure?"
You'd never been more grateful for Nate throwing the lamp to your right rather than your left.
You'd never been more grateful for Nate giving you a hickey on your right rather than your left.
You nodded. "Yeah. Thanks, though."
"So. Did you... you went to his party, right? Did you see him? Did you guys talk?"
It took you a moment to figure out that she was talking about her ex.
"McKay? Yeah. Yeah."
"How is he? Did he mention me?"
"He's, um... he's doing fine, I guess. He looks like he misses you, but you know him. He probably won't tell me."
"I just... maybe we... I just want to, um... fix things."
"You should."
"You think?"
You nodded. What the fuck else could you do to distract her from the fact that if she took one look down, she'd see Nate blowing up your phone? "Yeah, you guys were great together."
You instantly cringed. Because that was what Nate had said about you and him. "See? We go great together."'
"I don't know if I want him back, or what. What do you think?"
That I just fucked Nate Jacobs. And that the molly was only half of it. That I'm going to kill myself.
"I think... I think you broke up for a reason, Cass."
She nodded, and the rest of the car ride went in pleasant silence.
Then she dropped you home.
And Rue was waiting for you.
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
"You're pissing me off. What is this, blackmail?'
"Yeah. It is. I saw you two in the bleachers, and if you tell people I'm not sober, I'll let it slip that you let Nate Jacobs inside you."
Keep your calm. If you show even a tiny sign of accepting that she was right, you're dead meat. "It was a psych project. He had just finished a practice, so we sat there and finished some work."
"With tequila?"
Silence. Okay. She was not talking about tonight. She was talking about the gun-night. This was salvageable.
"Funnily enough, Y/N, according to what Lexi told me, there's been no 'psych assignment-slash-project.'"
"Rue-"
"So you've not only been lying to all of us, you've been betraying Maddy. And you've done Jules so wrong.'
"Look, you don't even know-"
"Then tell me."
So you did. You told her about the Instagram story, you told her about the Russian roulette, hell, you even told her about the dinner and the scar. What you didn't tell her about was the sex. The mind-blowing guilt-inducing sex.
"But I saw you kiss him on the bleachers."
"I was drunk, Rue. I'd have let the fucking janitor kiss me."
"Look, Y/N, those are my terms."
"You're asking me to lie to everyone about your health, your wellbeing! We're all looking out for you, Rue! Y'can't just blackmail me into not doing right by you."
"As nice as that is, the fact still stands that you fucked Nate."
FUCK!
"Rue, please-"
"He doesn't even fucking want you. He wants to get back at Maddy, and you're too fucked out to see it!"
"Rue, you're crossing the li-"
"I bet that fucking him was the only thing you've been doing this whole time. What, did you fuck him when Maddy was with him?"
Rue laughed after you slapped her and that definitely told you she was so high she couldn't even feel it. "C'mon. Grow up.", she scoffed, tucking hair behind your ear. "Girl code's not important anymore, is it? We're all eighteen - adults - now."
WHY must everyone always do that with your hair? So fucking condescendingly, too?!
"Rue, I didn't fuck Nate Jacobs."
"Then why is he blowing up your phone? Yeah, you think I didn't notice the name on your screen?"
"He blows up my phone because he's a psycho- I told you about the Russian Roulette thing and the gun and the slit wris-"
"Yeah, but you said you asked him to leave you alone and he did. Why would he break no contact? What could've happened?"
"Rue, I am not going to help you fake sobriety in front of your family- I- Rue, what is that?"
She frowned, looking down and following your line of sight. Her bag. The front zip. A needle. She looked back up, deadpan. "Fent."
"RUE! YOU CAN'T EXPECT ME T-"
"Look, Y/N, I like you, I do. There's no reason for you to worry, okay? If you could be quiet, your life will go on as it always does. No reputation loss, no guilt, no embarrassment."
"This will kill you! I can't do that to you, Rue, please!"
"But you can do Nate Jacobs?"
You were genuinely about to strangle this fucking trapper cunt.
"Think about it."
What, had she gotten lessons in blackmail from him?
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
That night, you were too fucking exhausted to even question why Nate was knocking at your window. You just opened it for him. You just let him kiss you. You just let him tuck your hair behind your fucking ear.
"I have a question."
"What?"
"Did you visit Shane in the hospital?"
Okay. No way he could have found out about that. You didn't tell a single fucking soul.
"Huh?"
"I beat him up for you. 'Cause he was saying you fucked when you didn't.", he said, his voice oddly calm for a man betrayed.
"I didn't ask you to!"`
"Please.", he scoffed, clapping sarcastically. "Biggest cop-out of the century."
"IÂ didn't!"
"He was calling you a slut, basically. As if you'd just give it up to anyone." What, like he knew you that well?
"Hundreds of people say hundreds of shit about me every fucking day! What am I, supposed to set you on them?"
"You could."
You scoffed.
"I'm being serious. You could say "'sic 'em' " and I'd beat them to a bloody pulp.", he informed, brushing hair over your ear again. "Say it. Tell me someone to beat up. I'll do it. No matter who it is."
"Nate. I didn't ask you to do any of this. I asked you to leave me alone, and you did the opposite!"
"You're acting like I showed up, fucked you, and then just left!"
He clenched his jaw, his grip on the piece of hair he just pushed behind your ear, now shifting to the rest of your hair. "No, cunt. I said 'I love you'. Or did you conveniently forget that?"
Oh. Right. THAT.
"What? You're suddenly acting like a pussy, baby, what's up with that? Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't remember. Don't be a pussy. C'mon, tell me. Oh, yeah, wait a minute, you can't."
"You didn't mean that. You wanted to get what you wanted, so you-"
"You think I say shit like 'I love you' lightly? You think I throw that word around?" Yes, he did, but you didn't need to know that. He decided to deploy the trauma card.
"You've seen what my parents are like. You think I'd abuse the words 'I love you'?"
"I guess not-"
"Yeah. EXACTLY."
Ooh, you were putty in his hands and he almost got a semi because of it.
"Look, okay, fine, Nate, that- that was out of pocket, but you can't expect me to-"
"But I do. I have never lied to you. Have I? I've blackmailed you and threatened you and, fuck, yeah, I've stuck a goddamn gun down your throat, but when have I ever lied?"
"So you're saying you 'love'Â me and I have to just accept it."
"I'm saying I love you, and you have to just believe it.'
And god help you, you somehow did.
"Rue's blackmailing me."
He mock-gasped. "You're cheating on me, then."
You couldn't help the chuckle that left your lips. Him being so calm in the face of danger should make him look foolish in your eyes, not admirable.
And the molly excuse was being held up by string the breadth of dental floss, honestly.
"Does she use firearms as well? Did you think about me the whole time?" He was clearly trying to make you laugh, and it was working.
He kissed your forehead. "What did she blackmail you for?"
"For or about?"
"Both."
"For : keeping her relapse a secret from everyone. About : the gun-night at the bleachers."
"Okay, so the choice is clear."
"What?"
Nate Jacobs had scared you when he'd said he loved you and when he'd said he'd kill himself for you, but he'd never scared you as much as he did with what he said next.
"We just sit back and watch that bitch OD."

Welcome to My Collection of Random Thoughts during my nth* rewatch of Good Omens Season 2
*only amazon prime knows the exact number at this point but Iâm fairly certain itâs in the double digits
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c19c9d2458a95f72ee5c2192a1be9ea6/9ed253e5c8bcc744-cd/s540x810/447fd8f5788b7a84f60eb4a68300ca11014c1509.jpg)
Episode 1: Gabrielâs fly lurking in the box when Aziraphale first takes it inside đ
Crowleyâs promise of âtwo minutesâ basically means that heâs been homeless and living in his car for the past 4 years strictly so that he can be within 2 driving minutes of Aziraphale at all times in case his angel needs him Iâm not crying you are
So here I think the key word is âfragile,â Crowley knows they are ostensibly safe from their respective sides but that could change at any moment so heâs basically spent the last 4 years in anxiety-ridden terror hovering as close to Aziraphale as he can to try and protect him from heaven, hell, and anyone else that would want to bring him harm after all that business they pulled in season 1 with stopping Armageddon
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ec2d9f4b60abd1c3b5ee66bdac1a5173/9ed253e5c8bcc744-15/s540x810/f74e7c822ff41f4f32a02f3fcc4c0f41deb5e3e5.jpg)
Episode 2: I just happened to pause the episode while Aziraphale is lying to the angels about his miracle and LOL Michael really outdid himself here (Sheen, not the Archangel)
Gabriel trying to swat flies and almost smashing the repository of every single one of his memories
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e4e70d1be2d2f4d153f9940dc4b4ae8e/9ed253e5c8bcc744-93/s540x810/8ca8ebfd428b0fccb3103b33dc3c662d966bc2ba.jpg)
Iâm cAckling
So if Good Omens exists in Good Omens, does that mean Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett exist in Good Omens?? Do you think they based their Aziraphale and Crowley characters on Aziraphale and Crowley??
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d42639f0a9155ad459c7ac89ddec5f1b/9ed253e5c8bcc744-70/s540x810/f39a72cfb642aa6f9b9f59247dcf14b463200b49.webp)
Episode 3: So Iâm trying to find any hints or foreshadowing of the Gabriel Beelzebub thing bc tbh I did kind of feel like it came out of nowhere which is really the only issue I have with them. I found this one scene where Beelzebub almost ?? seems to be concerned about Gabriel ?? But itâs blink and you miss it and there could be lots of other reasons why Beelzebub doesnât want to fail in locating Gabriel (pressure from/leverage over heaven, etc) so idk
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/485ce0a15df46859ea2b7f55a9496c9a/9ed253e5c8bcc744-b9/s540x810/33cf3f65a6fff9a2d2a79ce2f4b39156fbeaca62.webp)
More Foreshadowing Fly content đȘ°

Episode 4: So here weâve seen that Shax can just appear inside the Bentley bc she did it earlier to talk to Crowley. Shax only pretended to be a hitchhiker so she could be invited in because Azirpahale was driving so technically she needed permission to cross the threshold of an angel đ
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3e66b3ea4a0eb31fa17268cad04d551e/9ed253e5c8bcc744-0d/s540x810/272cdc98c129a92838bc22506a5708516489dfc9.webp)

This scene will never not destroy me the 1941 flashback is the absolute sOFTEST thing ever to happen on this show
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f173a3fb999d99fe616130a565dd1741/9ed253e5c8bcc744-d8/s540x810/49138eda34c24dc3df45423b30e2f31aa1f8a580.jpg)
We really need more context here I need to see the Crowley-Furfur Monkey Rides
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/addf4b952fc8ee486947992f060687d6/9ed253e5c8bcc744-3f/s540x810/18b27714e61694837c55e07f3931216c065c97e7.jpg)
Episode 5: ahahaha thank you google translate for absolutely destroying my sanity this evening
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a34717ffdb34b9508e92e7f118b4870a/9ed253e5c8bcc744-d2/s540x810/0f32ef2fac6145d0328df868571308fdb8176947.jpg)
POP goes the Ziraphale
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8d563d827b42a6eed3df6c25bfb1505c/9ed253e5c8bcc744-b0/s540x810/b94adee382115aff4aacdd793f1791e2f625cad8.webp)
Okay I know you canât hear it in the gif but just before Nina takes Maggieâs hand, thereâs a very quiet miracle noise, like Azirpahale literally MADE Nina dance with Maggie, he said Iâm writing a Mina Jane-Austen-Ball-AU and my otp will KISS godDAMMIT
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/dd87888db1d6f81fa0eb0d7ff913da45/9ed253e5c8bcc744-9f/s540x810/38e589373c312d7dfd0c1347c59c8de7f8e2f78b.webp)
Azirpahale seems lowkey kind of manic this whole scene tho, heâs controlling literally everyone to force Nina and Maggie together and whenever Crowley says anything that pokes holes in Aziraphaleâs Magical Jane Austen Ball Fairytale, Aziraphale just straight up denies it. He wants Nina and Maggie to dance and he wants him and Crowley to dance and he refuses to acknowledge anything beyond that.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5616af1f794d9889bd221569d62d4590/9ed253e5c8bcc744-b6/s540x810/a7b9df53b8fa39b4b4a69ba9859c42b7b8f22c3e.jpg)
Is this just Shax insulting Crowley for how much of a nuisance heâs been or a reference to his former status as an angel ???
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f0934dee50a395fb477d0d108ee22cc2/9ed253e5c8bcc744-e2/s540x810/7aea8833bf3a129b046b82c7d3871eed988b5275.webp)
Theyâre both completely dismissive of each other when theyâre trying to say something important and thatâs the main issue theyâve been having this entire season tbh
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e960f7e6e4056635e9366eb9019986a5/9ed253e5c8bcc744-91/s540x810/126e47ab79effcecc7b5f0f1cf5376cad5aaad5e.webp)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1eb790ee3634b1dbcfd95b4b94dfe0d2/9ed253e5c8bcc744-a7/s540x810/57169c2ba17e7ed5598aa654385ca73f52a90d4a.jpg)
Episode 6: I think itâs funny that Crowley describes the angels as bees here because in the book, Neil/Terry describe humans the same way. Guess we have more in common than we thought huh?
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/db2f099f8d341d32d35ef3e4f2f3a47a/9ed253e5c8bcc744-55/s540x810/d3e373a1e42af80286ddcca5156160ceb85bb3c0.webp)
So the metatron was the one who originally decided Gabriel would be memory wiped and not sent to hell, and he was also the one that decided not to sound an alarm about Gabriel for some reason and said âjust go find him yourselfâ instead. The metatron has definitely got his own agenda and you can bet he doesnât want Aziraphale up there in heaven because heâs a âleaderâ and heâs âhonestâ like thatâs exactly what Gabriel was and look where it got him đ
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3ae7075cc19efe8264861c70316ba1c3/9ed253e5c8bcc744-24/s540x810/c08c5aded85084c500cabf320c787275291cfc24.jpg)
Thereâs just something I canât quite put my finger on about the metatron bringing Aziraphale a coffee from âgive me coffee or give me deathâ and then asking Aziraphale if heâs going to take the coffee heâs giving himâŠ
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/eb1e0ea24f06a59c9b773f880a40eff1/9ed253e5c8bcc744-9f/s540x810/8c21f44dac5d439ec8c165d1d24082a846439e09.webp)
I have not seen a single person talk about this since s2 came out but Nina literally calls Maggie âangelâ because thatâs the term of endearment they hear Crowley using for Aziraphale !!!! Iâm still going fERAL over this and I canât believe no one else is eitHER
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/aa3eac3354ddca42f597cb2ac8c4d58b/9ed253e5c8bcc744-6d/s540x810/70ff371135dedc2aa3b5a582bfab97479ac82259.webp)
Something about this part of The Final Fifteen compared to this scene from the first episode is so representative of the entire season. Azirpahale keeps saying âmy way or get outâ and Crowley finally hits a wall and can follow Aziraphale no further. So he does just that. He goes.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7fb9fb83362e804993dc3b1444678d3a/9ed253e5c8bcc744-a5/s540x810/f632355f3442e654e9367352241aba1828104e5b.webp)
Iâm sure a lot of us by now have seen this post that brings up how Aziraphale literally pushes the remains of Crowley into his mouth and swallows and itâs the only thing I see when I watch this now
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/238a28df4aa27effa4f936714deedaec/9ed253e5c8bcc744-6e/s540x810/017cec6f466f72635971243a4cde4b28dd078ac6.jpg)
We still donât know for certain if Crowley queued up this song to play on their way to the Ritz or if the Bentley started playing it all on its own and itâs driving me insane
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fd3c1bb7f68cd6e3e21079a7d599efdf/9ed253e5c8bcc744-7a/s540x810/dd7debda34275da2eba5eca36aeef64f79529f94.webp)
Basically how I am doing after my Truly-Alarming-Number-th watch of this traumatizing episode/season. WELP hope you enjoyed this garbage dump of my thoughts and feelings time to go cry for a bit again BYE

Why is nobody talking about how cute this story is???
I'll write roughly what happened so majoorr spoillerr
Mind you that i used google translation so it's definitely not accurate
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6e8afa12c3f240bdb93603e883aaf481/023953d3b26f9330-8f/s540x810/d303c157cfb9fd54a29b2a6de8c594f036160b14.jpg)
It all starts with kid!Gil exchanging letters with his mother. He wanted to write her something other than the usual about what he does with his only friend Chevalier, which was reading books and eating at food stalls. He then suggests they play a rhodolitian game.
Gil can't play with other kids because he runs out of breath quickly + he's not good at walking or running so he couldn't play with them in the end. After countless rejections from chevalier, he suggests they host a tea party (a rhodolitan tradition) that's what he observed clavis doing with other kids.
The whole story goes on by chev saying to gil " I dont remember being your friend". He's being a tiny tsun tsun whenever gil calls him my friend.
On that day, gil keeps waiting until the sun sets. He senses something wrong because chev isn't the type to break a promise. Finally, Chevalier appears and Gil immediately notices that chev is sick, he has a fever, a poisonous one. He asks him how could nobody in his family notice! Well, we already know how everyone walks on eggshells around Chev (except for clavis). Gil asks he why he'd come if he is poisoned, chev replied by saying that gilbert would keep waiting for him until the morning.
Gil literally cried
So Gil decides ( while holding chev's hands) that he'll take care of chev and stay by his side while he rests since chev already reached his limits
Here's what he said
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cd8cf53cc67f0bcce6390cb389a0a1ee/023953d3b26f9330-09/s540x810/ac2b0a50e1c25b4fbff4e048937990e44a67b357.jpg)

![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/50ef6cd366faecbf06e52cd108c5a55f/023953d3b26f9330-c3/s540x810/453eb549cba3ec8831506dba86ea1a1225f059e1.jpg)

* I think they meant chev sweaty hands never left Gil's cold hands.
Now back to when they are adults.
Kind of the same thing happens
Chev notices Gil's fever from his irregular breathing and tells him indirectly to rest â "shut yourself in your room and be quiet I'm responsible if anything happens to our guests"
The story ends in a sad way where they talk about what changed ever since they were young
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b6fb53cae6d2dcc818df440a308bbd35/023953d3b26f9330-de/s540x810/b1b8fdf5706ade765b2f7be449f368f40395c268.jpg)

HOW DID RAPPA AND BOOTHILL END UP BEING SO SWEET???
Before 2.6 even dropped, they were being cute! In Rappa's Keeping Up With Star Rail, Boothill describes Rappa's creations as "high-tech ninjutsu" rather than equipment, or machines, or anything else that someone would have normally defaulted to. This is something Rappa is very proud of and insistent about in her work, and he respects that!
Even with those party join lines, he refers to her not as a Galaxy Ranger, but by her chosen title!
Rappa seems to get a lot of shit for how she talks, too, with people throughout the patch accusing her of playing around or not taking anything seriously. Boothill though is swift to correct that, that even if it sounds like nonsense, Rappa is someone to be respected and a force to be reckoned with. He seems to really admire her resolve, and especially her intellect! He has nothing but praise for her, it's so so sweet.
And the way she talks about him, too! Like there are. A lot of things you can say about a man like Boothill fjkdlsajk but she always speaks so admirably of him?
There's also the difference in nicknames- Rappa refers to every other person as "Ninja." And most of them are descriptions that you can pick up at a glance, or without knowing a person too deeply. Singer for Robin is obvious, everyone knows who she is. Gama for Reca means "toad," which is a reference to the assistant director he always has with him. Baseball Bat for the trailblazer is also obvious. Ruri for March 7th means "lapis lazuli" which is probably a reference to her Six Phase Ice, or even her appearance since she looks like if a Stellar Jade became human. Hiryu for Dan Heng is actually "flying dragon" but it's also a famous video game reference so I'm only willing to put so much stock into that one fjkdsjakd and besides, she could have easily heard about March 7th and Dan Heng from Boothill, since he talks about the dango trio to Rappa, too.
But Boothill! Rappa refers to Boothill as "Silvergun Shura," with Shura being a reference to Asura, a demigod of war. It's a name used to describe someone fighting a relentless, inhumane war and desperately seeking victory. It also refers to a level of hell, governed by anger and pain. Both interpretations suit him strongly. It's not really a title you could give just looking at someone. It's something you'd have to know them at least a little more deeply for.
Boothill also very distinctly lacks the common ninja title- instead, in the EN translation, Rappa calls him Lord. It's a highly respectable title even in the original Chinese, apparently akin to addressing reigning royalty.
She just. Seems to respect and admire him so much? It's so so sweet?
And despite how often it's stated that Galaxy Rangers tend to work and travel alone, it seems these two are at least fairly familiar with each other, which makes me really happy! In an instance of beautiful timing, just today Hoyo released a new text convo, and! When she wants someone to hang out with, Boothill was one of the first people Rappa thought of!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9b232ac48f83bb85efa95bef1e807fde/c3722a36f8bb7c06-42/s540x810/e0aca635cd1ee43983f307a6827449a7626310b7.jpg)

Rappa knew Dan Heng because Boothill talked about him. She knew about Clockwork. Boothill has spoken with her often enough and long enough to know how deeply her hatred ran, and to be upset for her when Primon got away.
They both speak so positively of each other, even when one is out of of earshot. They openly show a ton of respect and admiration for one another, and the way they talk about each other is more than just two people who happen to be part of the same faction. They know each other more closely than that. Boothill is only in Penacony at all because of Rappa, and Rappa trusted Boothill enough to seek him out for this.
My favorite, though? The part I considered the cutest?
Rappa literally went all the way to the Luofu just to watch Boothill fight in the Luminary Wardance.

Rambling thoughts of various Yuri manga Iâve read
1. Kase-San and Yamada (Morning Glories sequel series) by Hiromi Takashima
notice how Kaseâs name is first, which is representative of her being the main one to cause problems in their relationship
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/42683b9a784d164ffd400093afa7912d/1c6661ddd23403e2-2b/s540x810/5231a006cb1689971aa3f3599b2b11bee755bf1f.jpg)
If you asked me what my favorite yuri manga was like 2-3 years ago, Iâd say Morning Glories and Kase San everytime. Every avid yuri fan has either read or watched Morning Glories because, at the time in 2010, it was groundbreaking, and I stand by the fact that the original series still holds up to this day. It was cute, sweet, wholesome and only had a few obligatory âwe love each other but weâre giRLsđłđłđłâ moments. Most of all it wasnât a pseudo-incest-straight-male-porn-pandering-garbage-festâalso known as âCitrusâ. Was it cliche at times? Yes, but they all are lol. Did they add to the dumb ass âblonde femme and dark hair mascâ trope? Also yes. But it was adorable and it was my first ever yuri so it holds a special place in my heart.
And it SEEMED like it was only going to get better in Kase San and Yamada, the sequel. The girls would be heading to college and the story could theoretically focus on more mature topics while they navigate their new relationship. Keyword: theoretically. Unfortunately, instead of exploring interesting relationship dynamics and storylines, the plot of each story arc boils down to: Kase is insecure because a man breathed next to Yamada or Kase is being completely insensitive to Yamadaâs feelingsâŠagainâŠâ> âšmiscommunication drama âšâ>big over dramatic apology sceneâ>boring makeup sex or other romantic gesture.
Literally thatâs how every single plotline goes. Kase is so goddamn dumb and insensitive to Yamadaâs feelings and Yamadaâs a complete doormat who can only stay mad for 0.2 seconds before getting pussy whipped like a spineless ass bitch. And for all that Yamada sacrifices for Kase; her hometown, her dreams, her apartment, what does she get in return from Kase? Oh thatâs right; bare minimum romantic gestures and a neglectful partner who canât even call her âgirlfriendâ in front of others:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/71e7549f2bfabc6dadbd5e317d1b6837/1c6661ddd23403e2-e0/s540x810/3942863c10df12f9d0d24d709d264a62f3148c2b.jpg)
Like I thought we were over this shit. Itâs been THREE years of them together, a whole anime production, and god knows how many irl years and weâre going back to âwe love each other but weâre giRLsđłđłđłâ WHY???
And then Kase later goes onto bet her entire three year relationship over the ugly bitch in the next panel, so now Iâm questioning whether or not Kase even loves Yamada with the amount of bullshit sheâs put her through. Which COULD be an interesting plot point, but Kase never gets any consequences for her actions and the creator genuinely thinks this is romantic and full of tension so Iâm 10000% positive that this arc, just like all the others, will end with some makeup sex and weâll be right back to step 1. Sigh.
2. Tamen De Gushi by Tan Jiu
Tamen De Gushiâs problems are interesting but itâs NOT because of the Chinese governmentđ
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d977682d763e3c162c6f9d3f7232b64b/1c6661ddd23403e2-54/s500x750/238d8db3a1787abd2c39eff723dc77782ed090f3.jpg)
So todayâs dark haired masc and blonde femme of the day are Sun Jing and Qiu Tong, respectively. Their personalities arenât anything to write home about, if you read ANY high school yuri romance, then you know exactly what happens in this story beat for beat. But, BUT, however derivative it is, I find their dynamic very endearing and down to earth. Idk maybe itâs just the translation, but other yuri stories often have this very inauthentic âanimeâ vibe to it. Which is to say the characters act very cutesy, overly dramatic, and have this stilted, caricature-esque acting of how the creator thinks teenage girls are supposed act.
However, Iâm happy to report that Tamen De Gushi is a breath of fresh air in this regard. The characters and interactions they have are grounded and feel organic, which makes them feel like real people, not aliens pretending to be human. This really elevates the humor in turn, oh did I mention that Tamen De Gushi is super funny? Because Tamen De Gushi is super funny, hereâs one of my favorite panels and itâs all because of Sun Jingâs goofy ahh expression:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/50633910359484f9a2ae5c911bd3e5ea/1c6661ddd23403e2-a2/s640x960/d25f474236a523e6366a7049e9902238f9c70c40.jpg)
Like go girl give us nothing
If youâre wondering why I havenât spoke much about the actual romantic relationship between the girls, thatâs because there isnât oneđ Which, okay, thatâs not a fair assessment, they have a ton of romantic tension and they flirt a lot. Itâs certainly building to a great romantic relationship, but it canât quite get there due to legal/political reasons sadly. đ
Edit: I received new information in regards to what happened to Tamen De Gushi. While I reached my limit for posting pictures, I want to point out that the Chinese government had nothing to do with Tamen De Gushi getting censored, rather it was a dispute between the author and the publishing company. The prior information I received was false and I prob shouldâve looked it up more so sorrrry. The fact still remains though that after their big lesbian kiss towards the middle of the story and maybe a few other moments, thatâs just kind of it. Youâre stuck waiting for something to develop, but nothing really happens. The comic very quickly becomes a collection of slice of life segments and cute pictures that imply a relationship between the girls, but not really ;) ;).  Now things are just kind of left in purgatory for the foreseeable future and, well, thatâs Tamen De Gushi yâall.
Compared to Kase San and Yamada, the characters were much better, which is not saying much, but without an actual romantic storyline, thereâs just not a lot for me to comment on to be honest. Itâs really pretty though, look at this art :
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/018c513e81e0298a04bb7c04966025bb/1c6661ddd23403e2-31/s1280x1920/727bbcd779377d217f2b677cca2e4101a8e3835c.jpg)
3. Beauty and the Beast Girl by Neji
my personal favorite and the BEST yuri I ever read
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/397d1ae96b1e6a09f3860f4949bbf099/1c6661ddd23403e2-a1/s500x750/f8988df25cc54a165904942c509959bd38e66dd5.jpg)
So next on the list is Beauty and the Beast Girl (Iâm going to abbreviate to BatBG from here on) , which I already spoiled my feelings on the matter so this will basically be me gushing about this story for several paragraphs straight, enjoy.
Contrary to what the title suggests, it really has nothing to do with Beauty and the Beastâs story except in name. The main girls are Lily Blind, who is actually fucking blind đ and Heath the monster girl. Already Iâm happy because instead of blonde femme and dark hair butch, itâs blonde femme and of-course-you-have-purple-hair-and-pronouns masc. Lol, all jokes aside, Lily, unlike her blonde femme counterparts is quite assertive and voices her opinions all the time. In fact, sheâs the one who pushes Heath to be more open and communicate with her rather than the other way around. This is, in part, due to the story BatBG is trying to tell. I say BatBG is in name only to Beauty and the Beast because Lily isnât trying to find the âbeautyâ within Heath or learning to love a beast or whatever, sheâs fine just the way she is and her love for Heath is unconditional. Plus the only thing beastly about Heath is her appearanceâŠwhich Iâll harp on later, but her behavior is in no way different from a regular human except in very rare, specific moments.
At its heart, BatBG is a story about forgiveness (the creator literally says as much) , but itâs also about the cycle of violence that results from being outcasted and deprived of love. BatBG is set in a world of humans and monsters, where the monsters are outcasted and either have to stay away from human society like Heath or assimilate themselves by hiding away their monster like traits, which is a really queer narrative on top of an already queer story. I donât want to go into too much spoilers, but sometime before the beginning of the story, Heath in-directly hurts Lily before they ever meet. However, itâs not about Lily needing to forgive Heath, or trying to get over the pain she inflicted upon her, rather its Heath learning to forgive herself and in effect, learning to love herself as much as Lily loves her.
Another big aspect of BatBG is disabilities, Lily Blind is in fact Blind lol and while there are times she struggles with her blindness, she never views her disability as something she needs to be ashamed of and never, ever, blames Heath for it or holds it against her unlike what many, many, many, many other stories end up doing. Her blindness isnât treated like a super power either, itâs a legitimate disability. She just accepts that itâs a part of her and goes onto say that if not for her blindness, she wouldâve never met the love of her life, which I found to be an incredibly profound thing to say.
Now that Iâve gotten this far, I suppose I can add a bit of a disclaimer. So BatBG is waaaaay more explicit about the physical affection between the girls than in any of the previous stories I talked about. Heath and Lily are constantly kissing on, hugging, and almost always flirting with each other, and make no mistake, these girls do be fucking. The sex scenes are never perverted or gross, but genuinely super sweet and romantic, which makes it way hotter imo (huh imagine thatđ€). And aside from being hot, it also serves a purpose! Lilyâs pretty damn horny underneath all her nice girl antics and while itâs not a major part of her character, it does give a slight edge to her personality and, most importantly, balances out the dynamic between Heath and Lily. It wouldâve been very easy to fall into that boring trope where Heath is aggressively horny and Lily is the submissive blind girl, but by making Lily be the one to initiate the sexual encounters, it not only compliments Heathâs more reserved nature, but breaks the stereotype that people with disabilities are pure precious being who couldnât possibly have sex, which is ableist af btw. Many people think the existence of any sex scenes at all is superfluous, but in BatBG, it truly elevates the story, the characters, and the romance in ways that wouldnât be nearly as satisfying without it.
Now, with as much praise I gave BatBG, there is one criticism I have, but itâs a quibble really, and it can be explained in a single image:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4ede914cefeff9a70809f4fdbb8dfeba/1c6661ddd23403e2-60/s540x810/a1a3aa89ec3075f9855c7a78a21d39baeb353482.jpg)
There is a dissonance between the story and the art, the story says: âHeath is a big, ugly scary monsterâ
The art says:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/13ca0ff29e593a2743597338c4c1d42f/1c6661ddd23403e2-86/s540x810/89e7f5ef125d4fd2fcd796dd5c8bb516309956fc.jpg)
And like yes, it can be argued that Heath is simply regurgitating the things bigoted people have said to her, but at no point in the story is this ever challenged or brought up in any meaningful way. Lily is blind so she doesnât know what the hell she looks like and the other characters arenât any help either. Itâs not a big deal or anything, it just wouldâve elevated the story if Heath was actually kinda ugly/more monstrous and not incredibly beautiful because right now itâs giving skinny girl who calls herself fat all the time, and itâs like, babe, who tf are you fooling? đ
Other than that, BatBG is incredibly profound despite its premise being so deceptively simple and I love it to pieces so âŠyeah! READ IT.
4. Superwomen in Love! Honey Trap and Rapid Rabbit by sometime
Well, at least there are no blondes
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/57d236421523e20526f7b18fa2c2d2db/1c6661ddd23403e2-33/s540x810/2baf59a8665ae4f0c8129083e541f4189938715f.webp)
So imma just abbreviate to SiL btw
Alright, letâs get started. The premise is that a villainess falls for the super hero girl and then that plotline is dropped in about 16 pages. Iâm not even joking, the villainess falls for the hero, loses her job as a villain and then joins the hero all in one chapter. The REAL plot is actually about a council of evil alien-humans who want to destroy humanity because of generic super villain reason #434: the leader of the aliens is sad and misunderstood :( Iâm not even going to lie, I had 0 interest in âXâ (the generic ass name of the main villain) and her band of useless lesbians. They did literally nothing in the story except be a nuisance and contribute to Xâs incel breakdown at the end. Their inclusion actively made SiL worse because the story has this weird tonal problem where in one breath the villains are portrayed as complete jokes and then you turn the page and now theyâre shooting children like girl whatđ And these useless lesbians hog sooooo much of SiL that desperately needed to be given to Honey trap and Hayate to develop their relationship.
When the story DOES actually focus on Honey Trap and Hayate, itâs pretty good, even cute at times, there just wasnât enough time given to them to flesh their relationship out. As it stands, Honey Trap and Hayate donât have much of a dynamic, or personality for that matter. Honey Trapâs main gimmick is that sheâs extremely horny for Hayate and delulu:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0130977631e0d6e981aa2cabd7e1871c/1c6661ddd23403e2-29/s540x810/89518a2e08fc1e4e93e291d60d3e65dca22ab788.jpg)
Aside from that, sheâs a great value version of Heath, but even a watered down character is better than, like, nothing. All I really know about Hayate is that sheâs nice, heroic, likes wearing tacky clothes and âŠ.thatâs it. She loves Honey Trap becauseâŠâŠâŠâŠthey fought together a few times so why notđ€·ââïž Iâd say at least thatâs better than Tamen De Gushi, but actually itâs not because these grown ass women donât even kiss , all we get is a love confession and their gremlin love child and thatâs supposed to be satisfying I guess.
And the worst part is that SiL has the audacity to pretend the romance was something that it clearly wasnât:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4c5c13017f907ac5b0be2a5e7e29242c/1c6661ddd23403e2-78/s540x810/721aa61df7d44f877c6b045e964a790e53dd49ad.jpg)
GirlâŠyall were âââenemiesâââ for 10 panels.
Now, itâs stated they have been rivals for a while, but I guess Honey Trap forgot all of that because the moment she sees Hayateâs face, my good sis is pussy whipped for life. And thatâs in spite of apparently being the evilest one out of the evil group because Honey Trap has no grudge or baggage toward Hayate. She immediately turns good with no issues and Hayate is only distrustful of Honey Trap for 1 or 2 speech bubbles and then sheâs not. Anything else that happened was off screen, which means it didnât happen. Ironically, the very next entry on this list will do a MUCH better job at an ex-villain love story, but for SiL, thereâs just not much going on.
Another reading of this story is to call it a âparodyâ butâŠno, it isnât. SiL isnât a comedy, yes there are comedic moments that poke fun of the genre, but the rest of the story genuinely wants you to take it seriously. Except it canât. X and her league of dimwits are boring as piss and they oscillate between Saturday morning cartoon villains and child murderers seemingly on a whim. So I can neither be endeared to them nor take them as a serious threat. Honey Trap and Hayate are there, but I lament on all the potential lost from what couldâve been an amazing relationship.
5. Yamujiburo/Kianamaiartâs Hanamusa webcomic
This one is kind of cheating, but I also donât care let me talk about hot MILFsđ
So the final entry on this list is a webcomic series by one of my fave artist: kianamaiart! And itâs right here on tumblr so check it out!
I stumbled upon this webcomic a few weeks ago, fell in love and now I want to talk about it. This yuri pair thankfully has no blonde femme in sight and instead features two popular PokĂ©mon characters: Jessie from Team Rocket and Delia Ketchum, Ash Ketchumâs mom. What I love about this ship and the world Kiana creates around them is that itâs a very unconventional pairing. Thereâs just not many romances where a single mom falls in love with an ex gang member and the best part is, Delia being a mom is a big part of her character and she doesnât ignore Ash in favor of her new relationship with Jessie. She has time for both and doesnât prioritize one over the other, which many ppl fail to do even irl so good on you Delia!
Now, as for the romance it self, Jessie and Delia are a unique pair. Jessieâs overconfident, brash, drama queen personality doesnât automatically put her in the âdominantâ role and Deliaâs sweet, motherly personality doesnât automatically put her in the âsubmissiveâ role. Their dynamic in the webcomic actually plays out in the reverse, Jessie is the one who gets easily flustered and DeliaâsâŠintense, to say the least:
(But Tbf if Delia looked at me like that Iâd be at her beck and call toođ)
This subversion of these tropes creates a fun dynamic for the couple and itâs super adorable to see how their energies bounce off each other in each new situation Kiana puts them in. I also love how both Jessie and Delia inspire each other to live out their dreams and they become better versions of themselves by being together.
And one last thing, I donât have any smart commentary to go along with this, I just really like this drawing of Jessie:
no thoughts, head empty
Final Thoughts
Soooo yeah, thatâs the end of my dissertation on yuri comics. I know I ended up dragging a lot of popular yuri, but it wasnât my intention to make you guys hate any of things I talked about. These were just my thoughts as an avid yuri fan, so let me know your thoughts as well, especially if you read any of the yuri I talked about. And even though Iâm super picky about the type of yuri I read, Iâd still love to hear any recommendations. Who knows, it might dethrone the undefeated champ that is Beauty and the Beast Girl.

It's Just a Game, Right? Pt 8
Masterpost
"So I think they're using other languages," Tim says, the moment Bernard opens the door.
"Well hello to you too my beloved boyfriend," Bernard responds, kissing Tim on the cheek and pulling him into the apartment.
"Shut up," Tim says, following Bernard to the table. This is hardly the first time Tim has skipped past pleasantries like that, and Bernard seems to find it more amusing every time.
"Aw, I dunno if I can do that. I really like to talk to you," Bernard grins conspiratorially. "Plus, then I wouldn't get to tell you that you're half right."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, obviously other people noticed the comment, right?" Bernard, gestures towards the computer, where Tim can see the cryptic comment. It already has dozens of responses. "Mostly people are just freaking out about it, because this is like, our first instance of direct communication from them, but one of the people who saw it actually recognized what language it is."
"Just one?" Tim frowns.
"Yeah. It's called esperanto. I googled it and apparently it's a conlang from the late 1800s which is pretty cool. It was, like, invented to be kind of a universal language, I guess? It pulls from a lot of different languages, so that's why it looks like multiple languages."
"Huh."
"But! There's still the encoded portions to figure out, because the translation as-is doesn't really make any sense." Bernard scrolls and points to the translation that a commenter had offered. It reads To be fqzuhsx-ayccas is to be qtdkv-avnwkwkb; the veil afph-gqkduik but it is meant to igpmtwi-ocdq. Determination in the face of doubt.
"Huh," Tim studies the text, then notices something. "They've specifically encoded the verbs."
"Yep," Bernard shrugs. "I haven't tried anything for the encrypted stuff yet; figured i might as well wait for you."
"Okay, well I guess we start with the simplest? We know they've used caesar ciphers before, plus this is in response to what we did with the first caesar ciphers before, so we might as well try one of your decoder websites for that first."
"Seems reasonable," Bernard says, pulling up the website from before. He quickly copies the first word over and hits the button. "Well shit, that was quick."
"Only the first half, though." Tim mutters. "Do it to the rest of them." Bernard copies and decodes the rest. In short order, they have a the first half of each encryption decoded.
"To be gravity is to be orbit, the veil disk but it is meant to eclipse?" Bernard frowns. "That... doesn't make much more sense."
"What's up with the focus on astronomy, too."
"Oh, right, we haven't gotten that far yet. They keep referencing space stuff. There's like, a running theory about these messages being supposed to have come through a black hole?"
"Is that even possible? i thought black holes ate stuff forever."
"I dunno, I'm not really into space stuff. Besides it's like, sure there's evidence for it, and space seems to be narratively important? But the premise seems kind of contrived to me."
"You think they're doing something bigger than what everybody is seeing." Tim stares at the forum thread. If anything was going to give Bernard's theory some credence, it would be what literally just happened.
"Exactly." Bernard posted on a forum arguing that he thought the game ran deeper than people realized. And the creators, who so far hadn't interacted directly, had responded to that post, with a triple-encrypted message.
"Each shift was one further away than the last," Tim thinks rapidly. "It started with language, which could be either a part of the effort to encrypt it, or a part of the intended meaning. Possibly both. Then, they used caesar ciphers for the first layer of encryption, the same thing they used in their first post. How did they encrypt things in the second post?"
"I think I kind of mentioned it before, but the second post used a vigenere cipher. The names of the people in the first video were the keys, if I remember right."
"The first is the key to the second."
"What-"
"Take the second part and decode it with the first."
"Dude your mind is scary sometimes," Bernard laughs, but moves to do as Tim says, revealing the first encrypted word. "To be seen. That works..."
Tim starts writing down the full message, as Bernard decodes the rest. Finally, they have the full text of the message the creators intended to send.
"To be seen is to be remembered; the veil distracts but it is meant to hide. Determination in the face of doubt." Tim reads.
"Huh," Bernard says, leaning over to read it for himself. "Well, now we know what it says. Now we just need to figure out what that means."

theorizing
It's still early in the event, but I'm already trying to think about what Hot Topic Issue this year's Halloween event might tackle (assuming it follows the precedent set by GloMasq and Playful Land). Here's the theory I present to you: the conflict will be about escapism and where to draw that divide between fantasy and reality. Why do I think that? Because there are lots of parallels between our shiny new guy on the block, Skully, and us, Twst fans.
Book 7 presents a similar idea when Lilia and Malleus discuss the life cycle of Gao-Gao Drago-kun, how short it is, and how convenient it would be if the virtual pet could live forever in a fantasy world. In the same book, Yuu has finally found a potential route home... meaning an end to their story and their time in their current world. Read another way, it can be said that we, the Twst fans/players, are like Malleus, not wanting anything about our lives in Twisted Wonderland to change. We want to stay here among these characters we have come to love and grow close to, not return to our boring mundane lives in our original worlds... in reality. Likewise, similar points of comparison can be drawn between these themes and Lost in the Book with Nightmare Before Christmas, even as early as part 1.
Now in this allegory, Skully represents us, the average Twst fans. Here's the parallels I noted:
Skully is notably a first year, which matches up with the grade level that Yuu (the player self-insert/POV character) is assigned to
Skully attends a school where his peers donât understand him or his interests. This mimics the experience of some Twst fans, who may be misunderstood even within the anime fandom. How many times have people joked âOh, you like the Disney dating sim?â/assumed that Twst is cringe? Can you talk to fans of traditional Disney about Twst? Twst may be somewhat niche in your immediate area. Chances are, you have to retreat to online avenues to find like-minded fans. In this way, Twst fans may feel isolated or not understood.
He does not like to talk about school because he doesn't have many people who understand him, perhaps due to his eccentricities. Again, this may not directly translate to all Twst fans, but rather it can be very relatable to those who lack social connections and seek to fulfill that through fandom or escaping into a fantasy world.
Skully is an otaku for Halloween. And what are we, as Twst fans, if not also otaku?
He looks mysterious but has excitable reactions. The behavior reminds me of someone who can be very sociable online or in special circumstances but might come off completely differently in real life or initially due to how their face looks and how they dress.
The strongest parallel, however, is the fact that he, like Yuu (again, the player self-insert character) ALSO gets isekai'd... into the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas. And what happens in this world that Skully gets isekai'd to? He... 1) meets lots of new people--people that don't know him in the "real" world, so he is free to act however he wants around them, maybe even befriend them, 2) gets to meet his Halloween idol, Jack-sama, 3) gets to be praised by his idol, and 4) (presumably) helps out his idol with putting together this year's Halloween. THESE LINE UP ALMOST EXACTLY WITH WHAT YUU DOES WHEN THEY'RE ISEKAI'D INTO TWISTED WONDERLAND... Yuu, who represents you, THE TWST FAN. You, as a Twst fan, 1) meet and potentially befriend these new characters (and maybe even explicitly made an OC to act however you like in your place as the one meeting these characters), 2) hone in on your favorite(s), 3/4) hyperfixate on the intimate voice lines and the moments you have with your favorite(s). It's total wish fulfillment for both Skully and the average Twst fan. In other words, Skully will get lost in living the fantasy that is literally being transported into the world of his Favorite Thing Ever, just like we, the Twst fans, escape to Twisted Wonderland. In the book/Twst, you can be yourself or whoever you want to be. But what happens when that peace and comfort is about to be taken away? Perhaps that's when Skully will snap đ€ refusing to return to his old life, where he was awkward and misunderstood... wanting to stay in this endless Halloween night forever and ever. Maybe he even tries to prevent the NRC students from leaving too, since he has now formed a friendship (?) with them? Like, he's trying to keep them trapped in this fantasy of his (very Malleus-core of him, honestly). Then it would be up to us to try and knock some sense into Skully, reminding him that there are things in the "real" world to look forward to as well.
Looking back at previous Halloweens, the conflicts presented usually tie back to something relating to the Disney counterpart's own identities. For example, Frollo (in the stage version) lost his younger brother to sin and pinned the blame on an entire group of people. Rollo lost his younger brother to sin and now seeks to eliminate that sin (magic) from the world. Honest John and Gideon worked for a shady guy and lured away children, even though they themselves were terrified of what would become of those kids. Fellow and Gidel are similarly forced to do this dirty work because they are so impoverished they need the job, even if their boss disrespects them. I think my theory about what Skully's whole conflict will be could work from this angle too. The character he is twisted from, Jack Skellington, is known to be somewhat naive and an idealist. Jack pursues Christmas with all of his undead heart, sure that it will return the "spark" that Halloween has since lost. This could be reflected in Skully, our twisted!Jack, in his desire to pursue Halloween--or, more specifically, this novel world where his passion is reinforced and he has a place in it. He would be naive to the world he snubbed in favor of this new one, deeming this new world superior (like how Jack thought the "new" Christmas would enhance the "old" Halloween).
as3gro8yvq ;ngqemf; KJLBFIsIFSLFS ANYWAY, that's my game theory đ Not sure if it'll actually be this, but figured I'd throw my guess out there since my previous "lmao Skully will kidnap Crowley" crack theory ended up being shot down...

May 15th Heppenheim, Germany
âY/N, remember that you need to be careful with what you say to Seb. I know you want to tell him about Emily, but also consider whether today is the right time. Imagine ifâŠâ
You stop listening to Hanna the moment her lips utter your daughterâs name. Instead, your mind started creating a thousand different scenarios about what could happen when you saw your ex-boyfriend today. Your gaze remained fixed on the mirror in your room.
You only returned home five days ago, but it felt like an eternity.
You knew perfectly well why, or rather, you knew perfectly well who was to blame for your distorted sense of time: Sebastian Vettel, of course.
The trip to London felt like a fresh start. While the main reason to go was your meeting with Capital Records to discuss what your near future might hold, you considered it as an opportunity to rethink what you wanted to do with your life from now on.Â
You had just turned 30, and the only thing you longed for was to start this new decade with a clean slate in every possible way. That, of course, included facing your past mistakes and recognizing your faults, one of which you might be about to commit today.
Hanna acted as some sort of mediator between you and Seb because, no matter how hard you tried, you couldnât bring yourself to send him even the simplest of messages. The driver seemed to understand, as he told Hanna not to worry, that he understood, and that all you needed to do was show up without standing him up.Â
Despite having agreed to meet at your house, you decided to dress up a little to present yourself in the best way possible. After spending far more time than youâd like to admit choosing what to wear, you settled on a light blue knee-length dress and white Converse sneakers, with a bracelet your daughter made (or better said your mother made, just Emily took credit for).
"Y/N, are you even listening to me?"
The reflection of your best friend in the mirror startled you. You turned towards her, trying to maintain the calm youâve lacked since returning from London. Exactly five days that have felt like five years.
Like the five years since you last saw Seb.
"Hey, cat got your tongue or what?" insisted the blonde. "Seriously, Y/N, I want you to be speechless, but preferably when you and Seb take the conversation from the couch to the bed and he makes you scream his name again just like he used to do when..."
"Hanna, for God's sake, shut up! Seb and I are only going to talk about..."
"I know, I know, I was just trying to make you laugh. You know I like to..."Â
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
If you were restless before, pacing back and forth in your room, checking that there was no trace of Emily in the house for Seb to find, now you were frozen like a statue.
You looked at Hanna, and she looked back at you. You shrugged, but Hanna just put her exaggeratedly unfriendly faces.
"Hanna, no..."
"It's Seb, Y/N! It's just Seb, for heaven's sake," she interrupted, and you cut her off just as fast.
"It's the Seb I haven't seen in five years!" you stammered, feeling the anxiety taking over. "Seriously, Hanna, this was a very, very bad idea. I donât even know why I asked you to tell him to come and..."
"Because he's the father of your daughter, and your only goal is to tell him!" she yelled, trying not to raise her voice too much but failing miserably. You hoped to God Vettel didnât hear that.
"Hanna..."
"Since I know you're not going to open the door, I'll do it myself. Stay here or come down, do whatever you want, but I'll tell Seb to come find you because clearly, you can't handle welcoming your guest," she declared.
Without saying anything else, she strided out of your room. You could only follow her, practically tripping down the stairs, legs trembling like a teenager on her first date. Your pulse was pounding in your temples, while your mind kept screaming at your body to calm down.
As soon as you stepped onto the ground floor, you saw Hanna opening the door. Her cheerful voice broke the silence, asking Seb how he was and, to your surprise, inviting him in.
You inched closer, not quite enough for them to notice you. Then you stopped, inspecting Seb from head to toe, as if you didn't already know every inch of his body by heart. Even though you were used to seeing him on TV and social media daily, it felt like you havenât seen him in all this time youâve been out of touch. He was wearing a slightly worn-out white t-shirt and jeans. His hair was perfectly trimmed, though a bit longer on top, and his beard, probably several days old, was what caught your attention the most, looking just the way you liked it.
But what really captivated you was the bouquet of yellow tulips he was holding, just like he used to bring you for dates or whenever it was a special day for either of you back when you were dating.
You swallowed hard, guilt washing over you as you thought, for a fleeting moment, about him handing you a flower bouquet before you told him you were having his baby.
"Hi..."
You thought your whisper was too soft to be heard, but it was quite the opposite.
Both Seb and Hanna turned to look at each other, then focused on you, still standing in the entryway. Your best friend tensed up slightly, but you tried to reassure her with a slight movement of your hands. The expression on your ex-boyfriendâs face seemed to light up at your small intervention, even if it was minimal.
âWell, Seb, I'll leave you with Y/N. I have a few errands to runâŠâ Your friend tried to excuse herself, though both of you knew it wasnât true. âSee you later for a drink guys!
She winked and quickly slipped out, shutting the door behind her before either of you could even say goodbye.
Now, it was just the two of you, alone.
Seb looked at you again, and you couldnât help it but get lost in the blue of his eyes. The situation felt strange. You used to cherish every moment of being alone together, but now you didnât even know how to say a simple "hello."Â
You once trusted him completely, and now you were unsure whether to offer him a drink or tell him that you have a four-year-old daughter.
âHi, sunshine,â he said, breaking the silence.
âHi, Seb.â
He took a step towards you, slowly moving closer. You noticed how his gaze shifted from the flowers to your eyes, as if he was searching for some kind of answer from you. His eyes reflected a mixture of nervousness and tenderness, stirring a whirlwind of emotions inside you.Â
He didnât have to say it, you could see it in his eyes. He was afraid of how youâd react to this gesture, this little detail that used to drive you crazy, but now⊠you didnât know how to feel about it.
You, on the other hand, were utterly stunned.Â
How, after all this time and how cold you ended things, could he still do this? How could he still remember?
âThese... are for you,â he finally said, his voice low and shaky. He handed you the bouquet, his hands trembling.
You met his gaze, and the way he looked at you was filled with fear, insecurity, and maybe, just maybe, a bit of tenderness. He didnât need to say it out loud because you knew him too well. He was afraid of how youâd react to this gesture.
âThank you,â you managed to say, taking your time to smell the flowers.
You couldnât hold it in. Tears began to blur your vision, and a wave of embarrassment washed over you.
He noticed. Even though you didnât want to, even though you didnât feel capable of getting close enough to give him a kiss on the cheek or maybe even a hug, Seb did it anyway.
âIt's okay, Y/N,â he whispered. âItâs okay...â
But it wasnât okay⊠it was far from okay.
Sebastian Vettel was here, once again, standing in front of you, and possibly back in your life. The boy you once considered your best friend, the best friend you fell in love with, the driver you always supported, and most importantly, the father of your child, was back in your life in such an unexpected way that it still felt surreal.
âI donât know...â you tried to speak, but the words wouldnât come out. âIt feels surreal that after everything, after such an empty goodbye, here we are, together again,â you confessed. âItâs weird seeing you in front of me in the flesh and not as pixels on a screen.â
âY/NâŠâ
âIâve missed you, Seb. So much.â
You knew your honesty didnât catch him by surprise, because he felt the same way. Thatâs what hurt the most.
âI missed you too, Y/N. I really did...â he said after a moment, wrapping his arms around you, and you pressed your face against his chest.
âSebâŠâ
âDonât overthink it, really,â he interrupted gently. âIâm not here to talk about the past or blame anyone,â he paused, letting out a breath before continuing. âI just want us to go back to who we were before we were together. But, if Iâm being honest, weâve been in love with each other for so long that I canât remember a time when you werenât my everything.â
Your lips trembled. The weight of his words was too much for you to handle, at least today, in a first encounter where you havenât even spent ten minutes together.
You felt awful. You felt shattered inside knowing that if you were in this situation, it was because of you.
âWell, Y/N, tell meâŠâ
âNo, no,â you quickly interrupted, grabbing his arm and guiding him to sit on the couch. Immediately after, you rushed to the kitchen to grab the drinks and snacks you spent all morning preparing. âYou tell me first. Even though Iâve seen you on TV, I know youâre very private about your life, you know... You never share anything with the media, and well, you donât even have social media so⊠How are you?â
He let out a short laugh as he picked up a bottle of water and a cheese-and-salmon toast.
âWell, to be honest, Iâm doing much better than when you left me,â he revealed. It didnât surprise you. After all, it was what you expected him to say. âYou must have had your reasons for breaking up with me, and after all these years, Iâm not going to ask why you did it. But I wonât lie to you⊠you left me shattered, Y/N.â
âSeb, Iâm sorry. I didnât mean toâŠâ
âI know,â he cut in softly, making a gentle gesture with his hand to calm you down. âLike I said, Iâm not looking for an explanation or an apology. I just want you to know how I felt. Mentally⊠damn, Y/N, you broke me, and I completely lost myself, but at the same time, thatâs what gave me the strength to win the championship in 2013,â he looked away from your eyes, shifting his gaze to the wall. Nervously, he started playing with his fingers. âAll I could think about was you and that, maybe, there was a chance you were watching...â
âOf course I was, Seb,â you said softly, trying to hold back the tears and keep your composure. âNo matter what happened, I never stopped watching or supporting you. Iâve always been, and will always be, your number one fan.â
He nodded, a bittersweet expression crossing his face.
âThat year, everything I did was with the thought in mind that you were watching and, somehow, it helped me move forward. But⊠2014 was when everything fell apart,â he admitted. âRed Bull wasnât the same anymore, or at least, I didnât feel the same way. I wasnât winning, Daniel was beating me⊠I felt like I had lost everything, including you and, with time, I started to feel like I had no reason to stay with the team or maybe even in Formula 1. Until Ferrari offered me the contract.â
You remembered it like it was yesterday. Unlike any regular sports fan, you found out through Heike when you were out for a walk with Emily.
âWhen I was given the chance to sign with Ferrari in 2015... Y/N, really, thatâs when I realized it wasnât the end. Thatâs what I needed to move forward. I think I mentioned it to you on WhatsApp, but I donât know if you rememberâŠâ
You swallowed hard. Of course, you remembered. He told you just before the news became public, before his mum told you, but you didnât know how to answer him or if you really should do it. The demons in your head made you think it was a joke, even just an excuse to get closer to you. And you also felt that if he did sign with Ferrari, it would open a door you had closed because you werenât ready to face the truth.
Just like you were doing now.
âI remember, yes,â you murmured, unable to look him in the eyes.
âWhen I didnât get a reply from you I decided not to push it. Thatâs when I realized you didnât want anything to do with me. Yet I kept sending you stuff as you might knowâŠâ
âThatâs not itâŠâ You could barely speak. You were as broken as he was. âI read the message, Seb, but⊠I burst into tears and didnât have the strength to reply. I didnât want to give you false hope when I wasnât ready to⊠I didnât want to hurt you more than I already had,â you confessed. âI knew that if I spoke to you again, Iâd hurt you again. And Iâd hurt myself too. I couldnât do that to you, Seb.â
He nodded, looking for some kind of affirmation in your gaze.
âAt first, I felt really out of place on the team, you know? And I felt that way for a long time,â he revealed. âIt was completely out of my comfort zone, and I felt like Iâd never fit in. But little by little, Kimi, Maurizio, and the team made me feel like family. Itâs strange to think about it now, but I canât imagine being with any team other than Ferrari.â You agreed with him, from what you had seen on TV, it was clear he felt that way. âFighting for the world title with them this year and having a real shot at beating Mercedes⊠I never thought Iâd get to this point.â
You looked at him with a mix of admiration and nostalgia. This was the Seb you knew, the Seb with ambition, who always desired more and more. The Seb who never gave up.
The Seb who didnât break down, even when he had every reason to.
âIâm so proud of you, Seb. Iâve always been, and I always will be. Donât forget that.â
âOf course, Y/N,â he looked uncomfortable. Quite a bit, actually. âWell⊠enough about me. You know I donât like talking about myself⊠What about you? What have you been up to all this time? My mom told me a bit, and Iâve seen you a few times, butâŠâ
More than not knowing what to say, you sensed he didnât want to intrude too much into your life.
You swallowed, trying not to get more nervous than you already were, because now, you supposed, was the moment to tell him about Emily.
âWell, not much has changed, really,â you started, unsure of what to say. âIâve been in Heppenheim the whole time, except for a couple of trips to Berlin, but nothing unusual,â you tried to smile, but your mind kept circling around the fact that you had to tell him you had a daughter. âIâve been working at the bar and writing music. To be honest, since we broke up Iâve had a lot more inspiration.â
And since I gave birth to Emily, you thought.
Seb didnât say anything. You figured he understood. After all, he had thrown himself into his career to cope, while you had poured your emotions into writing songs about the story you shared to cope with grief.
âNow things have changed a bit,â you continued, trying to sound more upbeat to push away the painful memories. âEver since Red went viral⊠I swear, I uploaded it without expecting anything, but the reactionâŠâ
âThe song is amazing, Y/N. Of course it went viral.â
âIâve been offered a record deal,â you blurted out. âA few years ago, I met Niall Horan at the bar. You know, the guy who was on that band, One DirectionâŠâ Seb nodded, his eyes wide, encouraging you to continue. âHe told me he was traveling to find some inspiration for his solo career, and I guess Heppenheim seemed like a good place for him to visit.â
âWait, wait⊠a record deal?â
âApparently, Niall told his label that I was the voice behind Red, and, well⊠Capital Records offered me a contract,â you explained. âThey called me to have a meeting in London, which is why we couldnât meet up last timeâŠâ
His face was calm, unreadable, though his mouth had curved into a big smile. He didnât seem surprised, and you knew there was a strong chance Hanna had told him everything.
If that was trueâŠ
âI hope you accepted, Y/N.â
âWell⊠actually, I didnât. I turned it down.â
His smile faded for a moment, and his expression became completely serious.
âYou turned it down? Why? Sunshine, this is an opportunityâŠâ
âYes, I know itâs an amazing opportunity, but I canât accept it. Not right now.â
You figured this was the moment you should tell him the real reason behind rejecting such a big deal, which included a tour if you sold a certain amount of CDs.
Sebastian kept staring at you, which only made you more nervous. You tried to gather your thoughts, searching for the right way to tell him you had a four-year-old daughter, but you couldnât find the moment.
You couldnât just drop it on him now, after all, this was your first real conversation in almost five years.
âY/N, darlingâŠâ
âI canât take the risk when the only thing Iâve managed is to get one song out of all the ones I sent to the label to go viral,â you half-lied. It was true that you didnât want to talk about it yet, but you were also insecure about your music. âAs much as Iâd love to have an album, to fill stadiums and have people singing along to my songs, I canât take that risk.â
âBut, Y/NâŠâ
âIâm not sure all the songs on the album would be successful, Seb.â
âY/N, you have no idea what youâre going to regret if you let this go....â
âNo, Seb, I know exactly what Iâm doing, really,â you shook your head, firm in your decision. âThis is the best thing for me.âÂ
And for Emily too, though you didnât say that out loud.
Seb remained silent for longer than you would have liked, as if trying to process what youâd just told him. Then, he stood up, crouching down to your level, and taking your hands in his, he said:
âAlright. If you think your songs arenât good enough, sing one of them to me.â
âWhat?â you asked, confused.
âIf you turned down the record deal because you think your songs arenât good enough for the world to hear, sing one of them to me.â
His tone, though calm, was direct and insistent.
âSeb⊠I canât. Iâm too embarrassed,â you laughed nervously.
âCome on, Y/N,â he said, gently rubbing your hands with his thumbs, just like he always did when your anxiety was at its worst. âItâs just me. Iâm still the same after all these years.â
You sighed, knowing he wasnât going to let it go until you gave in. It was Seb, and he always got what he wanted from you, even when you didnât want to. In the end, you gave in, carefully standing up from the couch and heading towards the piano at the back of the room, gesturing for him to follow you.
You carefully slided the bench back, lifting the lid as you sat down. You positioned your hands, starting to play the first few chords to warm up, ensuring your memory flawlessly recalled the piece.
âThis is song number 5, like your driver number... It's called loml.â
You continued playing, finally giving way to the song.
Who's gonna stop us from waltzing  Back into rekindled flames?  If we know the steps anyway  We embroidered the memories  Of the time I was away  Stitching, âWe were just kids, babe.â  I said, âI don't mind, it takes time.â  I thought I was better safe than starry-eyed  I felt aglow like this  Never before and never since.
Your voice shook as you began to sing, but you kept going, holding on to what your ex-boyfriend had told you about how he knew it was about him. As you settled into the song, you started feeling more comfortable, just like you did when you used to sing for Seb. Though you couldnât look at him because you were absorbed in the key, your fingers delicately moving over it, you could feel his eyes on you.
You shit-talked me under the table  Talking rings and talking cradles  I wish I could un-recall  How we almost had it all  Dancing phantoms on the terrace  Are they second-hand embarrassed  That I can't get out of bed?  Cause something counterfeit's dead.
Tears started falling from your eyes as you approached the final part of the song. Memories of your shared history flashed through your mind like a movie. Your vision was completely blurred, and you felt a tightness in your chest that was overwhelming, making it hard to breathe, almost impossible to keep singing. Somehow, though, you fought to hold it together, just as you did the day you said goodbye to the man now sitting beside you.
Oh, what a valiant roar  What a bland goodbye  The coward claimed he was a lion  I'm combing through the braids of lies  âIâll never leaveâ... âNever mind.â  Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire  Your arson matches your somber eyes  And I'll still see it until I die  You're the loss of my life.
Silence filled the room as you played the final notes. With your hands still resting on the keyboard, you looked at Seb. Once again, you didnât know what to say to him, and you knew he didn't either. He was motionless, running a hand through his hair, probably trying to process what he just heard.
Y/Ni, this song... itâs about us, isnât it?â
âIt might be,â you admited, unable to lie to him, at least not about this.
He sighed. You could tell he was affected; you knew it the moment his tears began to form, just as yours continued to flow.
âYou should rethink the contract,â he said firmly. âThis song deserves to be heard by more than just me, your parents, and Hanna.â
âI canât, Seb. I just canâtâŠâ
âCan I sit next to you?â
You looked up and saw him gesturing to the bench. Confused, not sure what to do or say, you shifted a little, making space, and he sat beside you. Seb didnât hesitate to wrap an arm around you, offering a comfort that felt wonderful but also caused you to crumble a bit more inside.Â
You surprised yourself by resting your head on his shoulder.
âWhy are you so determined to convince yourself you donât deserve this opportunity?â His tone was soft, just like the way he stroked your hair. âDo you really think you're not good enough to be a successful singer?â
âItâs not about being good enough, itâs that Iâm not,â you whisper,ed your throat tightening. âIâm not a good person, Seb, and itâs only a matter of time before I screw up again and hurt someone, just like I hurt you.â
âDoes this⊠have something to do with the second date in your YouTube channel username?â
You stood your head up, staring at him in confusion while trying not to panic.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âYour username,â he repeated, moving closer. âI figured out that the numbers represent two dates. I know for sure that one of them is June 15, 2006, the day we started dating, but the other one⊠I donât know what January 12, 2014 means for you because we werenât talking by then, but it must be important. And based on what you just saidâŠâ
Your eyes widened in shock. You were paralyzed, not knowing how to react.Â
How could he have noticed something so⊠insignificant? How had he connected the dots and figured out the dates you had in mind when you created that account?
You thought this would be the perfect moment to tell him that the second date marks the birth of your daughter, the daughter you had together; that on that day, while you were in labor, he was at the hospital waiting for some exams results and he was talking to your dad, who couldnât contain his excitement about his granddaughterâs arrival and had to keep it a secret from him.
But you couldnât. Not yet. You need to regain his trust first. You and Seb needed to rebuild the kind of relationship you had before you became the love of each otherâs lives.
âSebâŠâ you trailed off, unable to continue. âI swear, on everything that matters to you, Iâll tell you, but right now⊠I just canât.â
He looked at you for a few seconds that felt like an eternity. You knew him better than you knew yourself, and you knew he was persistent, that he needed an answer, but you also knew he was respectful and wouldn't push you.
âThatâs okay,â he said finally, a bit resigned. âI understand, itâs fine. Iâm not asking you to tell me now if youâre not ready, but I want you to know that when you are, Iâll be here to listen.â
You looked at him, grateful, and nodded without saying anything else.Â
You both sat at the piano bench for a while, in silence, listening only to the sound of your breathing and the melody of the song replaying in your mind, as intrusive thoughts overwhelmed you.
âIf I waited almost 19 years of my life to be your boyfriend, I can wait a little longer, it doesnât matter the time you need, for you to tell me,â Seb finally spoke, and his words broke you a little more than you already were. âLetâs be friends again, what do you think?â he offered, giving you a small smile. âLetâs take things slowly, like maybe we should have done when we first started dating. You knowâŠâ
âSlowly, no problem,â you repeated, smiling back at him.
You felt a weight lift from your shoulders at his words. Maybe you were not at the peak of your relationship, and maybe youâd never got back there, but at least you were working together to turn your story into something new.
âYou know what, Y/N? Iâve always felt like our story wasnât over. I donât just mean that romantically, but in a broader sense,â he said quickly. âWe have a whole lot of history, and now is when weâre going to start writing our second book.â
âI know, Seb. Iâve been thinking the same thing ever since I said goodbye to you,â you confess. âThat day, goodbyes were bittersweet, but I knew it wasnât the end and that Iâd see you again.â
Before the year ends. Iâm telling Seb Emily is her daughter before December 31st.

In Which Space Orcs are Men
[AO3] A "what if humans are space orcs" take on Dagor Dagorath. (Aka the prophecied apocalypse of Middle Earth. Scifi story accessible to non-LotR nerds!)
Elves weren't really supposed to leave Earth. That's what they told usâthe Elves, that is, told people thousands of years ago, when Elves could still be found here and there. When I was born, elves were nearly as much a fairy tale as theyâd been on Ancient Earth.
Elves weren't supposed to leave Earth, the Elves said in the fairy tales, and in a few old scraps of records scattered around known space. They literally weren't made for it. They could only do it if they brought Earth with themâArda they called it, leaves or dirt, water or a rare bubble of air, perfectly preserved in a white crystal. There are tons of tales about Elves losing their lifeline jewelsâtheir hearts, their silimirsâand roping people into epic quests to get them back before theyâthe Elfâfaded to nothingness.Â
Even the jewels weren't enough, though. That's why there are also stories about Elves who fell in love with a person or a place and stayed there until they faded, or Elves who charmed someone into following them back to Fairyland on Earth...because whatever they said, Elves didn't really live on Earth. Humans have maintained their home planet as a monitored nature reserve since like the 40th century, open only to vetted research teams and serious Human religious pilgrimages. The most confirmed accounts of Elves that exist are of their ships appearing out of nowhere, with no trace of any tech that would enable it, at random, always-changing points within 100 miles or so of Earth.
Nobody ever came back from trying to follow Elves home. Mostly Elves tried to dissuade people from trying. But there are always crazy and curious peopleâand Elves usually attracted those, because any Elf who left the home they were "made" for was usually crazy and curious themselves.Â
Those were the stories I grew up with. There was a cave near the orphans' creche which was supposed to be haunted by a faded Elf. I didn't really believe itâlike I said, the last confirmed Elf was last seen like 5,000 years ago, and not even on my planet. People have met two dozen new sentient races since then. We've discovered that reincarnation is probably real (just functionally untrackable), prompting the Pan-Religious Reform Wars. The last person to see a live Elf was still traveling via natural wormholesâthey literally didn't know that you could loop pi.
.
When the Human natal sun started to turn really red, it wasnât that big a deal at first. Itâs a very important, very sad event for any species, but it happens to everyone eventually. It happened to the Hectort just after we invented interstellar flight. There were some unusual gravatic waves around Earthâs Sol, but nothing worth noting to anyone who didnât already care for personal reasons.
Then the Elves sent us a message.
The local Parks Service picked it up, of course. I bet the Humans meant to hush it up at firstâthough the Centaurian government still wonât admit anythingâbut someone leaked it immediately on the intergalactic net. It shouldâve only been famous as a joke of a hoax, butâŠ
It was basically just a metal box with rudimentary fire-thrusters soldered on the sides. It contained two things. The first was a recording/replaying device so antiquated that the only way they got it working is that it was already playing on loop, and didnât stop until someone disconnected it from its power source.
The message was in Ancient Bouban, which some folklorist soon announced is the latest language an Elf could know, since the last known Elf went back to âArda.â The voice somehow sounded melodic to every species with a concept of music, from the screeching Vesarians to the deep-sea sub-sonic Thinkers, even when translated through cheap, staticky speakers. And to most species, the speaker was audibly distraught.
They said,
This is the final message from the Firstborn of Eru to the Secondborn, and everyone else. The Battle of Battles has come, and weâŠare losing. If there are any who remember the ancient love and loyalty which bound our peoples, if there are any heirs remaining of Thargalax the Magnificent, of Nine-Fingered Frodo, of the noble Houses of Haleth, Hador and Beorâ
The speaker drew a sharp breath, there.
âby great oaths and greater friendship I bid you now to raise your swords and ride to our aid. Ride as swiftly as you can!
We will hold for another year. We will, they said determinedly. After that, it is unlikely thatâŠ
Another, shakier breath. A smile forced into a voice which would rather weep.
FĂ«anĂĄro and Nienna believe there is a way to destroy the Straight Road. If we must, if it comes to it, we will do so, and trap the First Enemy here in this dying world with us. Though I donât know aboutâ
Hair-aristocrat! a more distant, slightly less perfectly melodious voice called, in a language so dead that they needed computers to decode it. The walls are falling, we need to go!
If you never hear from us again, and no sudden discord arises among you, you will know we succeeded, the first speaker said quickly. If otherwiseâŠI am sorry. Either way, I bid you all only, remember us! Oh beautiful flames, remember us, as we have ever remembered yâÂ
There was a sudden screech of tearing metal, a defiant, musical battle-cry, and a jarring silence. Then the message restarted.
And that wasnât even the strangest thing in the box. The strangest thing was the recorderâs power source, which was powering the whole tiny rocket mechanism as well. It was an Elf-jewel right out of a fairy tale, a fist-sized, translucent not-quite-diamondâbut instead of rock or water or a much-loved scrap of plant, the only thing it held was light.
...Kind of. It isnât normal light. It arguably isnât light at all, as we know itâscientists now think itâs technically some sort of plasmoid aether, except it only acts like a plasmoid aether about half the time.Â
It has no detectable source within the jewel. It fully illuminates whatever space itâs in, no matter how big. Its visible radiation is a frequency, the scientists say, that matches a hyper-accelerated version of what the universe mustâve sounded like in the split second after the Big Bang.
It makes people remember things, when they see it in person or sometimes even across a holo. Some remember a similar light in a strange travelerâs eyes. Others, dreamily enchanted valleys where spring never faded, or tall castles, bright swords, and stern and glorious lords and ladies. And some of us got hit with a whole lifetime of memories in one go: an identical gem on the brow of a sober forest king, friends who slipped through trees like shadows save for their merry laughter, an impossibly beautiful gold-haired maiden dancing in a glittering cavern...
(And all the pain and loss that came with them.)
And some people just remember the sight of a distant starâin another world, in another lifetime.
Reincarnation was provable but untraceableâŠuntil now.Â
The Thinker ambassador on Astrolax Station 5 was the first to kick up a fuss. Most Thinkers never leave their home planet, they're too huge and aquatic. But like I said, there's always crazy and curious people. The ambassador started bellowing the second che heard the message, without even seeing the light, because, "I know him! My Wisdom! We must send aid!" That made some news, and random other people shared their own, less dramatic revelations, and soon a compilation swept the net with timestamps showing that most of them were organically independent, not just jumping on the bandwagonâŠ.
Even that might've gotten written off intergalactically. The Thinkers are big in reincarnationist circles, on account of how they claim that deep in their planetary ocean they can hear echoes of their past lives. But being mostly planet-bound means they're not really influential on a big political level. Or it would've sparked another surge of the Reform Wars, and everybody would've remembered the rock, but not the recording. Or there wouldâve been a fight over this potentially infinite energy source (though that is so last giga-annum)âŠ.
But first it was shown in person to the current Director of the Admiralty of the Astral Alliance, President of the X-ee Empire and Matron of the House of S,sh, Châees/iâi S,sh. I was actually thereâI was Captain of her ceremonial Alliance guards, in a last-ditch attempt to salvage my career after Zanzibus. Very ceremonial, considering the X-eee have laser-proof shells and pincers and I have, what, opposable thumbs? Vestigial tusks?
I wasnât paying attention at first, too busy being suddenly assaulted by all my own memories. So I missed the President freezing mid-step and gasping (in X-eee), âMother.â I also missed her rising alarm call of an attempt to speak Ancient Elvish without an Elvish tongue or lips.
I sure didnât miss her snap back to X-eee for a sharp call to attention, and everything that followed: the call to arms! The rousing of the Alliance! A tour of the galaxy, to find anyone and everyone else in whom the Light could awaken ancient memories! And for the love of X'eeh, why had nobody figured out how to get back to Fairyland with this thing yet, and every warship in the quadrant?!
If I believed in the One Behind, or in any other creator god or godsâI'm not saying I do, but if I did, if there really is something out there all-powerful and all-kindâthen it'd be because out of every soul in the entire universe, the probably one in the best position to act on the Elves' message turned out to have, from a past life, two parents and a much-loved twin still in Fairyland. Like, that's insane, right?
I stayed with the Director's ceremonial guards for the whole tour, actually more than ceremonial for onceâit was the weirdest mission of my life, and I've been on a lot of weird missions. Or supposedly routine missions that got weird (and usually disastrous). My friends joke that I'm cursed. S,sh requisitioned an Inquiry-class ship, so the science boffins could study the Light and jewel along the way, and we started wormholing at weft speed, hitting a new planet every week. Sometimes every day. In each major spaceport and ground-city, S,sh stood with the jewel on the highest available point and gave a recruitment speech for going to save the Elves and fight the oldest enemy of all reality.Â
Honestly, it seemed a little redundant? The Astral Alliance was made for this sort of rescue mission (and for escorting trade convoys). But I was...if not happy, then sure as hell more self-certain with my ancient memories restored, and most people who joined up seemed to agree. It was mostly people who remembered, when exposed to the Light, who joinedâso before long, we had a whole tag-along trail of mostly civilian ships, trying to get up to Alliance Fleet standard on the road in less than a year.
Three different religious sects tried to kill S,sh for "profaning the mysteries." Five others tried to steal the jewel because we were apparently appropriating a holy object. The boffins announced that, bar the can't-prove-a-negative possibility, the evidently sourceless Light should be counted as an infinite energy source, and at least seven different groups, ruthless financiers and sustainability idealists, immediately tried to steal it for that. And I still don't know what the rival thief-queens of Likkiliani were about, except that I got tied up upside-down from a palmdar tree for two hours trying to stop one, the other paid me 700 cron then threw me off a cliff, and in the end they recognized each other from past lives and just made out on worldwide live-holo before joining our growing fleet.Â
It turned out they were the Director's past life's great-grandparents, and a Canid pop princess was her niece. The Thinker ambassador was some sort of ancestor, too. Crazy extended family.Â
Most people who remember just remember the sight of a star in the sky. A buddy of mine from Fleet Academy remembered looking up at it as a Human sailor. The historiansâand youâd better bet we picked up some Earther historians on this mission as well!âsay this jewel or one like it was probably astrologically conflated with the planet Venus by early Humans.
(The more time I spent around the jewel, the Silmaril, the more I remembered, of my first life and more. Lifetime after lifetime with bad luck dogging my steps, killing loved ones in my arms, destroying cities I was supposed to save⊠One restless, haunted night, I met a Rigilic in the cafeteria whoâd been awake with some of the same nightmares, whoâd been my dead older sister once.)
The tour was cut short when word came from the Earth system that there was a black hole growing in the center of their reddening sun.Â
No, the sun wasnât compressing into a black hole millennia ahead of scheduleâone had just spontaneously manifested within it, like itâd teleported in. No, not literallyâthat was impossible. We were pretty sure. No, the sun wasnât falling into itâŠsomehow. Yet. The black hole was only 17 quectometers wide, but it was growing at an erratic but unceasing rate. If their best estimation of the pattern held, it would consume the sun 2 months before the Elvesâ deadline, and the Earth 4 to 950 minutes later.
We pulled back to Earthâwell, to the dwarf planet Eros, on the edges of Earthâs star system. Thatâs where the nearest shipyard of any note was, and we were gathering the whole Astral Alliance. This is exactly the sort of thing the Alliance is for.Â
I was released back to ship duty. Zanzibus was still a black mark on my record, as was Jorab, and really everything on the AAS EndeavorâŠand that thing in third year of Fleet Academy⊠But no matter how bad my curse, I was an experienced captain and one of the best pilots in the Alliance. For this, we needed all the best.
The boffins had pretty quickly mastered limited manipulation of the Light, using modified aetheric resonators, and every day they came up with something new for us to test. They focused the Light into a laser cannon like no one has seen before. They laced it through plasma shields until a fully shielded ship glowed like a distant star. They managed to nearly replicate the Silmarilâs crystalline structure, so they could make âcopiesâ that shone like the original for first a few hours; then, with refinement, a full weekâŠ
The one thing they couldnât pin down with any real confidence was how to get to Fairyland. The frequency of the Light resonated with large bodies of Earther saltwater in a particular way, and models suggested that if the Light source moved horizontally along the water within a certain range of distance and velocity, the resonance would create a wormhole-like ripple in spaceâbut wormhole-like, was the key word, and models suggested. The closest anyone had seen to that spatial distortion was in a logbook of dubious veracity from the Delta Quadrant, four hundred years ago. Alteia, my Academy buddy whoâd been a Human sailor, took the Silmaril in an M-wing on a series of highly monitored test flights above the Atlantic Ocean, and space did repeatedly start to hollow in front of bomâso bo had to stop every time, rather than risk vanishing with our single, maybe-one-way ticket.
Then Earthâs moon stopped shining in the sky. Its albedo just dropped nearly to zero, from one night to the next. There was nothing wrong that anyone could figure outânothing with the orbit, nothing with the surface rock, nothing with the artificial atmosphere. Inhabitants reported feeling colder by several degrees, but no measuring equipment recorded anything.
The black hole slightly off-center in the middle of Sol was now 844.9 zeptometers, and growing more steadily.
We didnât have time to keep testing. We needed to raise our swords and make our ride, even if we only got one shot at it.
I was given command, for seniority, skill, and because I was the one who managed to talk S,sh out of leading the fleet herself. (If my lives had taught me anything, it was the importance of having someone, anyone, ready to be emergency backup.) Ironically, I was back on the Endeavor, with most of my old crewâthough we got permission to rename the ship, in honor of the mission. A lot of people did. Alteia was now commanding the AAS Elendil on my right flank, star-friend in Ancient Elvish. That Canid pop princess had taken over a hospital ship and renamed it Rivendell. An Earth Park Ranger, of all things, remembered being my dadâbrieflyâand he was leading the Rangers plus my Rigilic drinking buddy on the EPSS Elfsheen.Â
We werenât sure if any ship but the one with the Silmaril would get through. The fleet numbered in the hundreds in battleships alone, not counting scouts and scuttlers. Twelve races had sent ships on top of their typical Alliance Fleet tithe, and S,sh had brought about half the full force of the X-ee Empire. We all just locked tractor beams and hoped.Â
I was piloting as well as captaining, with the Silmaril between my forehorns. It was held in place by about a dozen wires and other connectors to the ship, like an old-timey pilotâs headset. We took off in orbit around Earth, as close as possible to the surfaceânot very close, in warships of Class S and higher, but within range of the oceanic resonance. A Likkilianian thief-queen stood at my shoulder, ready to advise if anything âMusicalâ started to happen.
Think about what youâre trying to get to, and why, the boffins had advised, so I didâbright-eyed kings and dancing maidens; lost friends, families, cities, planets and all. The jewel got warmer against my skin and shone brighter with every pulse of the engine, brighter than we shouldâve been able to see through.
The silver-gold Light twisted and diffused as space did around us. But there was no familiar rippling wormhole boundaryâinstead, spacetime thinned to a curtain like driving rain, like Vesarian silver-glass.
A ghost appeared next to me. She looked like the oldest, grumpiest writing teacher at the crĂšche, though I knew that was only in my head.
âThere you are,â she said, impatient and relieved like Iâd been hiding in the sandbox again, rather than coming to class on time. Her sewing scissors went snip snip snip as she darted them around my bodyâand a chain on my soul faded into guiding threads.
Before sheâd even disappeared again, I punched the engine and blasted through the silver-glass curtain.
Fairy tales said thereâd be a peerlessly beautiful land on the other side, green with eternal spring, full of endless light and laughter. They said thereâd be sunlit shores and shimmering waves, with welcoming docks for sea-ships, sky-ships and space-ships allâŠ
We flew into the worst battlefield Iâd ever seen, in any lifetime. It was more desperately vicious than Jerusalem V at the height of the Reform Wars, more ruined than Glaurungâs wake, more desolate than Zanzibus after the nuclears fell.
Either a massive supercontinent or a small moon had been shattered, leaving nothing but a roiling debris field. The brand-new meteoroids ranged from pebbles to rocks the size of a small space station, and included space-frozen corpses, forests, and what might have once been city blocks.
I gave the helm back to my Pilot Officerâzer had, I can admit, slightly better reflexes for dodging debrisâand focused on captaining.
Most of the life signs were clinging to the larger rocks. There shouldnât have been atmosphere for them, but walls of thunderstorm wrapped around every shard with even a single life signâwind and water desperately hand in hand to safeguard the last of the Elves. The only thing visible through the impossible storms was the Light of a second Silmaril, on a meteoroid shaped like half a broken eggshell.
A corpse lay at the epicenter of the explosionâwhat mightâve been a corpse, if it wasnât also shattered. The broken pieces of a massive stone humanoid, taller than my ship if itâd stood beside her, still bleeding lava so hot that it burned even in frozen space. Another titan knelt at the shards of its head, a figure of towering bark and leaves, wailing with grief even worse than the end of the world.Â
A slimmer tree-woman stood with one hand on her shoulder, comforting, and the other wielding a skyscraper-sized club spiked with incandescent wildflowers. Guarding her sisterâs heartbreak, she fended off a swarm of bat-sized monsters with wings of darkness and whips of flame.Â
Bat-sized relative to the gods of Elves and ancient Humans. About the size of an M-wing, in flight.
Countless more of the bat-things flung themselves at the storm-bubbles, like carnivores chasing the prey hidden inside. They were fended off by an equal army of creatures with wings of light and swords of lightning, led by a towering figure who seemed to dance from one bloody battle to the next.
The biggest battle by far was the farthest away, over where the sun had been. In this dimension of stories over science, Sol was another woman-shape, smaller than the others but burning just as brightly as her star. Also just as blood-red. The light was centered on a fist she kept clenched at her chest, and instead of containing the black hole, the unseeable thing that it was here surrounded her, striking at her with a thousand hungry jaws and grasping legs, and she had only a one-handed whip of a solar flare to fend it offâ
But she didnât fight alone. A warrior tore at the Darknessâs spidery limbs with his fists, image on the cameras flickering impossibly between every hero Iâd ever heard of. A snarling figure bit at it with jagged teeth, gored it with horns, shredded it with claws and talons, and generally made every ancient prey-instinct in me scream. And a queen with a crown of stars, a shield like the night sky and a sword like a streaking comet, stood dauntlessly at the sun-holderâs side.Â
With all that, and with the speed of even her most exhausted strikes, I thought the sun-holder could probably have gotten away if sheâd tried. But I knew how a person fought when they werenât willing to leave a friend, and a smaller, silver figure lay at her feet, unmoving and drained of light.
But even the battle for the sun wasnât what grabbed my eye. Noâall my attention, all my guiding threads of fate and the quick temper that always used to get me in trouble, before (and sometimes after) I learned to leash it in an Alliance uniformâ All of that took me straight to the fight happening orthogonal to the stone giantâs corpse.
It was another one-versus-many. Morgoth, the First Enemy of Elves and Menâ Master of Lies, Maker of Chains, Sonofabitch Curser of Bloodlinesâtowered over even his fellow gods. His shape changed constantly, sickeningly, but it was always black-armored with eyes like dying stars that hated you personally. His maul dripped with lava and every other kind of blood.
He fought against three great gray figures who moved as one. The tallest wielded a star-studded scythe with swift, efficient strokes, and wore the dark gray of corpse-shrouds. The shortest shimmered with more colors than even a Stamotapadon could dream of, and his weapon shifted likewise. The third was the clear, clean gray of skies after rain or tears run dry, and fought with only a shieldâand hit harder with it than either of her brothers.
Around their heads darted the only Elves on the battlefield, in small fliers more like sea-ships than aircraft. But they moved fluidly, pestering the Dark Lord like flies, pricking his skin and threatening his burning eyes.
Until Morgoth swung his maul with a roar of fury that traveled even though soundless space. My ship and heart both shuddered. The gray gods all staggered back, and the Elves fell from the no-longer-skyâall but their leader, more fire than flesh, who wore the third Silmaril. Morgoth caught him in one massive black hand and with sharp claws plucked the jewel away, as easily as a ripe berry from a treeâ
âAll power to fore-cannon and fire,â I orderedâand the jewel on my brow shone bright again as several stored monthsâ worth of infinite Silmaril-Light slammed into Morgothâs chest with all the force that the best scientists in the Astral Alliance could engineer.Â
He stumbled. He dropped both the jewel and the elf-king (whoâd been trying to bite him). The Lady of Mercy tossed her shield to catch them, staying low and out of sightâthough she neednât have bothered. The so-called âLord of Allâ had already found his next enemy.
âAll ships, move forward and join shields,â I ordered, and met his burning stare though the viewscreen. âThen broadcast me on all external frequencies.â
The wires on my forehead shimmered as we shifted Light-flow to the shieldsâand to my right, so did the Elendil, and to my left, the Cosmian Blade, and all around us the Minas Tirith, the Elfsheen, the Muse, the Rivendell, the Heart of Zanzi, the Longbottom Leaf⊠They were still soaring out of the silvery distortion behind me, tractor- and Silmaril-towed: sleek Rigilic eels-of-prey and Centaurian cruisers full of Humans eager to fight for their homeworld, Betan mine-ships and Canid X-M-wings and my own Hectoan starlighters, a full third of the X-ee navy with their X-eeeâshaped six-engine dreadnoughts, and hundreds more.Â
âThis is Captain Pel Cinia, once TĂșrin Turambar, of the Astral Alliance ship Gurthang,â I said. My words were broadcast from every ship on every frequency in every language that the people of Arda might know, as the Fleet assembled from forty-plus different worlds flew into position. Our Light-infused shields blazed and locked together, until we formed a seamless wall right in the Enemyâs face, with the Elves and their other allies safely behind us.
Iâve never felt more proud to recite the most clichĂ© line in the Fleet:
âWe got your distress call. Weâre here to help.â

On a more serious note regarding the "Solas is like the devil on your shoulder constantly trying to make you make bad decisions".. I think @corseque made a good point, in that Fen'Harel in Dalish legends is known for giving cunning advice that, in true trickster fashion, may lead to a helpful outcome, but always at a cost or in a twisted way. We talked about how Solas might try to prevent Rook from trusting their companions because of his own issues/experiences with betrayal or that he might try to use Rook as a piece on his own "chess board".
But I think this also goes back to the mage origin in DAO and you being tested by Mouse, a pride demon, and how the greatest danger of the Fade is, after all, careless trust. I'm also thinking back to this banter between Solas and Vivienne, in which she literally said that he "sounds like a pride demon" trying to tempt you to "leave the path". Or Cullen saying that no demon will ever possess him because he is "too much like they are". Given that Solas literally translates to Pride and the Dread Wolf itself being described as a pride demon, this "devil on our shoulder" might end up being like one big test for us to pass throughout the story, much like the Harrowing in Origins. And building on that, there's also still this crucial piece of dialogue from Solas himself, talking about the perception of spirits and demons:
"The Fade reflects the minds of the living. If you expect a spirit of wisdom to be a pride demon, it will adapt. And if your mind is free of corrupting influences, if you understand the nature of the spirit, they can be fast friends."
In DAI, Solas was already a reflection of how you treat him. If it's true that, what the devs seem to be hinting at, we actually get to learn and see what happened in the ancient past and who Solas was before he "called himself Pride" (keeping in mind that Rook doesn't know anything about Solas as a person at the start of DA4), and we come to "understand his true nature"/original purpose/true name, then the above quote might be an analogy for how the relationship between Rook and Solas can develop and how we can influence Solas' character arc (on top of the relationship between him and the Inquisitor already having a huge impact on him?).
And if you think about it, it's so brilliant how they seem to put a spin on the whole thing now, by having the "pride demon" be the one who needs to trust the one who dreams. Or rather, expecting the pride demon to be a spirit of wisdom, and not the other way around.
The idea that Rook challenging/rivaling Solas by going against his "devil on our shoulder" advice/proving him wrong/"pass the test" and not expecting him to be that pride demon after Rook comes to understand his true nature/original purpose, could lead to him being more likely to "adapt", open up and learn how to trust again is so beautiful to me, but that could also mean a challenge for us Solas fans if we have to (at least in the beginning) bump heads with him in order to see that development. đ„Čđ Either way, Solas is truly in for the most intense kind of therapy session.
#today on another episode of ''me reading way too much into one off hand comment by the devs'' lol#solas#da4#datv#datv spoilers#speculation time

Wait An/Kohane have outright stated romantic interest?
poor wording on my end bc they never actually say "an and kohane like each other romantically" but the evidence it very much there and it is clearly depicted and phrased in other ways. for example: the shoujo sparkle effect that is used for An from Kohane's POV.
This effect is often used on Haruka in Minori's imagination, which, well, let's just say it doesn't disprove that Kohane is attracted to An. While the effect is also used to show a character being cute or having a strong "idol" aura without any attraction attached, it's prettly clear the intent was to show Kohane's attraction. Also she was blushing.
Bonus points to the fact the wedding event has a underlying message (they say it on screen) about how marriage should be equal regardless of the genders of the couple [because gay marriage currently isn't legal in Japan].
There's also literally everything in Buddy Funny Spend Time. While almost all of the interactions in that event can be read as platonic if you really want to, they're written so you can interpret it as romantic if you choose to. And considering the featured pairs in this event were Minori/Haruka, An/Kohane, and (briefly) Shizuku/Airi, it's not like that reading isn't supported by the writers lol. There's one part where Minori and Kohane get jealous of how close Haruka and An are as childhood friends and aren't sure if they can amount to that, but they want to try. Doesn't necessarily have to be romantic but can be if you choose to read it as such.
When Kohane is visibly attracted to Haruka, An gets slightly jealous and says that her singing should be the only thing that makes Kohane react that way.
Haruka also points out that although An has always been super friendly she's never been like this with anyone until Kohane came into her life, and still keeps this behaviour Kohane-exclusive. An says it's because they're partners, which, kinda friendzones them, but kinda doesn't.
The word for partner used in the story - "aibou" - means, to put it in incredibly basic terms, coworkers. It's like the cowboy or detective word for partner, though I believe it comes up in shounen every so often (the genre vbs story is based on). In itself, aibou has no romantic connotation. But 3 of the partnerships we see in VBS' story have lots of interactions that easily read as having romantic undertones, so basically in the context of VBS story the nature of said partnerships becomes a little more ambiguous. The word is still platonic and that doesn't change, but you get the idea. Oh and VBS has recurring romantic soulmate imagery more on that later.
continuing on BFST, yeah they went on a date. which is strongly suggested to be a romantic date unlike how it's sometimes used platonically. like the other characters say An is "seeing someone", at least in the English translation, which is very much associated with romantic interest. Also the original Japanese for the "do you know who she's going out with" line uses the phrase ăăŒăăźçžæ which is the Japanese equivalent for the word "date" (as in a person/your date), so it's not really any different. they go on another one in Kick it up a notch and An's card story for the event. their relationship is never labelled or anything (probably bc this genre avoids that sorta thing for fan-related reasons) but this very much was a thing that happened.
(also when ken says partner he says aibou. so not partner /r but anyway it does clarify that this date is to do with their relationship on a different level to partners /p. ie: an's going on a date with kohane because she's cute not because she's her partner. language is fun)
Lastly back on that thing I said I'd come back to. The Walk on and on costumes have romantic soulmate symbolism included on them. The wings on the backs of the outfits are based on the mythical hiyoku bird, a one-winged bird that could only fly after meeting its other half. Kohane's costume has pink accents, one of the variants has accents in An's image color and the wings on the backs of those variants match up to each other. The card illstrations themselves also feature crows, which mate for life. While the symbolism is mostly associated with Toya, the Whip the Wimp Girl! cards take place in the same location as the woao cards which is pretty neat, and makes sense given the themes of both events. I've put both their gacha logos above as well. Oh and An's card for wtwg was. Something.
And Kohane got the valentine event this year and it was about her entering a contest to win limited edition chocolates for An I forgot about that until just now.
Have fun with that.
#asks#there's a lot more romantic tropes and other subtext-y moments this is just like. the main ones#someone wrote a really long list of it all on tvtropes. if you go on prsk's page there's a subpage called homoerotic subtext n it's there#idk some of it might be a bit reach-y i didn't read the entire thing lol but it's there for anyone that's interested
