It just occurred to me that we've not had an in depth portrayal of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour since the Tudors. Or just, Jane Seymour in general. So I am really curious to see how Mirror and the Light/Wolf Hall is going to handle them.
We get to know about her family, we'll learn about Elizabeth Seymour as well, and how important she is.
#and maybe we have I just haven't seen#most of the portrayals of jane are very much her being viewed as the 'other woman'#which isn't at all fair#she is never truly given her own type of spotlight#at least until like i said#the tudors#and there is either over pacification of her or over villainization of her#and by pacification - i mean people just portray her as a mindless doe like character#who has no type of motives or goals of her own#when it was her who worked tirelessly to introduce mary back to court#and it was her who was sympathetic to the catholics and the pilgrimage of grace#anywayzzzz#can't wait to see how wolf hall handles her#and if this is going to be a type of portrayal that is everlasting - like the tudors#jane seymour#wolf hall#henry viii#mirror and the light#i do know that most of the focus in the new series is going to be Thomas Cromwell - whom I am obsessed with to the point of#I think it's best not to talk abt him or y'all would look at me weirdly#but what I'm saying is i'm not going to expect *too* much#because the tudors was really focusing on the queens and not the courtiers#and mirror and the light's main focus is certainly the courtiers

The Lamb is malicious in a funny way and the Goat is funny in a malicious way. No, I will not elaborate.
Anyway, everyone give thanks to the Lamb for interrupting what was sure to be a very boring and patronizing PSA from their grouchy cat hubby. Truly, they are doing God's work. Granted, the Lamb canonically is God now, so, uh. Mostly they're just doing their own work.
Speaking of their grouchy cat hubby, yes this is absolutely still Narilamb, Narinder is 100% into his goofy-ass spouse always no matter what and we all know it, he just wasn't expecting his brand new adopted kid to share the same single goofy-ass brain cell as the Lamb. :)

Something kinda tasteless about the way that alongside the concerns of "Batman needs someone to rein in his aggression/edginess" (mostly a meta concern,) "Robin is a symbol of undying hope right alongside Batman, Superman, and the police system," and "now that the thought's crossed my mind I think being Robin would be pretty sweet actually," one of Tim's points for why he should be Robin at the end of A Lonely Place of Dying is "we need to show the criminals of Gotham that they can't just kill Robin and expect to get away with it!" Because. They can. That's exactly what happened.
Using that line of reasoning, Tim makes the claim that the idea of Jaybin's life as disposable and inconsequential is heinous and bad, his killing something impermissible, but instead of disproving said idea they allow it to become true and devote their energy to making sure it doesn't become widely known as such. By covering his death up, they actually are permitting his murder to go unaddressed and deeming it acceptable, even taking away the opportunity for it to be consequential to anyone outside of Bruce's inner circle by not spreading the news. As much as we say "oh Bruce was a great dad because losing Jason crushed him" and "he almost considered trying to kill the Joker one time," he in all tangible areas did not do anything about Jason's death. Setting aside the question of killing the Joker or not, it's still shown in Batman Year 3 that Bruce's reaction to Jason's death in the time til Tim showed up was to hide away everything Jason owned and carry on with business as usual, a little angrier. Bruce didn't make any changes or actually evaluate anything in a significant way after the warehouse and Jason's death didn't warrant any tangible consequence, that's evident from reading the comic. I know some may disagree, and I acknowledge the room for interpretation, but in order to discuss Tim's reason we have to concede that it is explicitly written into this specific comic as something Bruce and Tim both recognize as fact, because it serves as the foundation that this reason is built on: there is good reason for the criminals to believe there would no punishment for killing Robin based on the actions Bruce did or didn't take in response. The concern about the public realizing there are no consequences for killing Robin wouldn't be reasonable if it wasn't true, if there actually were.
While they recognize that Jason's death came to pass largely without consequence, the fact itself is less of an issue to both Bruce and Tim than letting criminals actually find out that it doesn't have consequence. They know it's unjust, the notion that Jason can be killed without repercussion (and in making an effort to minimize his murder confirm it to be true,) but their concern isn't for what actually happened to Jason or the lack of proper response. At least on the vigilante side of things, the problem is public perception and continuing to uphold an image of Batman as just and diligent while permitting him to ignore injustice against those close to him. There's no efforts taken to actually disprove the idea that killing Robin would lack impact, what Tim proposes is just making it harder to prove right.
I think the best way to word what comes across tasteless for me here (aside from the side commentary on the unstoppable might of the institution of police and how it's an exemplar of heroism) is that beyond Tim's victim-blaming of Jason during his stint as Robin, (discussed in more depth by people who can word it better than me,) in the base text of a Lonely Place of Dying, it is foundational to the initial premise of Tim as Robin that part of his motive for being Robin hinges on accepting what happened to Jason as something that cannot be allowed in their pursuit of justice or go unaddressed for reasons completely unrelated to the actual harm, and then intentionally erasing the event and the way in which it was allowed and did go unaddressed. No matter how much it's claimed in later comics that Bruce was faultless and Jason doomed himself, Tim's Robin came to be at least in part (in-universe) as a cover-up for the lack of action taken about Jason's death, and by extension as an effort to overwrite his time as Robin and an individual entirely. And thought it wasn't the way his character viewed it, Tim wasn't passively complicit in it or going along with a poor grieving man, the intentional and deliberate erasure of Jason as a murder victim and the injustice of his posthumous treatment was part of his opening pitch.
#truly just “we can't let them think we do the thing that we do” at its core#because the thing that we do is bad and not fair like we want to look fair and would have consequences we don't want. so they can't know."#i see too much of people saying Jason took Dick's mantle so he shouldn't be mad at Tim when 1. he wasn't mad at Tim for it. didn't happen#and 2. Jason became Robin because Bruce was lonely and Jason was homeless and Tim became Robin in an effort to minimize Jason's death#Jason worried Dick wanted his job back (implying he would give it up if he wanted) and Tim shamed the dead kid he was hiding the murder of#can we spot the differences?#you can't really say Jason's gripe of “my death changed nothing” was off-base#when one of tim's first points on panel was that they should be giving the consequences of his murder the landlord special#i feel like all of the ways in which they made tim “more likable” were just leaning back into the status quo they branched out from#like “Jason doesn't like cops and believes they fail victims? well Tim thinks they're the good-hearted models for what a real hero is”#“Jason has conflicting opinions about cases with Batman? Tim is trying to bring back the true Batman who works exactly like he always did”#“Tim is nice and sweet and comes from a good family and has been there from the start. he respects what Batman is”#he's nice enough but his character is (meta not in-universe) rooted in a return to the safe classics that bring us good sales#idk why fanon props him up as the sad shunned outsider of the batfam when he is fr designed to maintain the norm and not rock the boat#also it's immensely funny to see Bruce accuse Jason of being needlessly violent over his emotional state as Robin#when not only does Bruce do exactly that and only that when Jason dies but he was doing it BEFORE too!#Oh No! he went from brutal to criminals and forgoing proper investigations to being brutal to criminals and forgoing proper investigations!#jason todd#batman#bruce wayne#robin#dc comics#discussion of tim drake#again not using the character tag because this isn't the most nicies#but i honest don't hate him that much

Controversial opinion: Vox's design sucks
...
Because he should be wearing a NORMAL TIE. not a BOWTIE. It would:
Add to his businessman persona
Give a place for that wifi symbol to go that isn't awkward
Be a good opposing design to Alastor's bowtie
Potentially give the idea he's moved away (or attempting to) from Alastor. Especially if they had it that Vox USED to wear a bowtie.
Also, we joke about it but seriously, why does everyone have a bowtie when it doesn't make sense for some characters like Husk--
I rest my case your honors.
...
Rebuttle:
Vox having the bowtie could signify him latching onto his past with Alastor and not being able to move on
#DAMMIT. FOILED BY MYSELF ONCE AGAIN#Oh don't mind me just having a two way debate with myself#We all know the bowtie was just cuz Viv happens to like that on her characters#which we all have a sort of favorite go to design element so can't blame her#(even if on a professional level maybe that shouldn't be the case but I digress. She's fair to live her bowtie dreams)#But think of the SYMBOLISM that isn't actually there#Which fair. This is 100% one of those things fans might look more into than the creator and the creator is justified not thinking it#Bowties are deep and complex now#Vox like a cat or dog not wanting to get clothes put on them when Velvette tries to put him in a normal ass tie is a fun visual at least#Vel: “Vox if you want a more professional look you need to get rid of the bowtie.”#Vox: “No. I refuse. I must prove I wear a bowtie better than Alastor.”#celtrist#cel rambles#hazbin hotel#hellaverse#hazbin hotel design#hazbin hotel critique#hazbin vox#hazbin hotel vox#vox the tv demon

(Basic context is that AU of Duel Desinties where the phantom impersonates Phoenix to get him found guilty of Clay's murder, I talk more under the cut abt it jkhlj)
-Basically meant to be a parallel to turnabout trump, cause if you can have ONE boss get found guilty of murder, why not a second one?
-OK basically: everything in DD happens normally until like- a day before clays murder, Phoenix gets yoinked by the phantom somehow (he is still alive, just being held captive), Phantom is still Fulbright, but they've decided to be silly goofy (target Phoenix and get him found guilty of murder, escape police custody and then murder phoenix and make it seem like Phoenix accidentally died while on the run, thats why they didn't kill phoenix right away unlike the real Fulbright) there is an imposter amo-
-I dont have the logistics as to how this affects solving Metis's murder, and how it effects what evidence is used n whatnot and turnabout for tomorrow as a whole, so im just going nuts HGJKHLJ
-Originally I was actually imagining this taking place during turnabout for tomorrow and I wanted that case to be apollo v klavier instead of phoenix and edgeworth and thats why klav is in here instead of Simon (I decided that Simon got badly injured and couldn't stand in court for the retrial, so klavier was asked to step in)
-The courtroom bombing still happens the same way it does normally, but Apollo decides to take up the case again instead of taking a leave, instead of like, you know, healing from the traumatic event that just happened, turnabout countdown still happens as well
-Apollo and Athena do not find out about the phantom's existence until well after this trial, so they have no idea that Phoenix could've possibly been replaced, though simon, after hearing about the trial, might be suspicious about whether or not that was the real Phoenix
-The Phantom had been not only keeping an eye on Simon for a while, but was also stalking Phoenix and Edgeworth after they both started looking into UR-1, so they were able to impersonate phoenix so well that not even his own daughter thought that anything was up (though while Trucy did find him a *little* bit off, but she figured that it might've been the bombing that caused him to act ever so slightly weird, so she didn't pay much mind to it until she heard about his confession in court and realized it might've been because he possibly, ya know, killed someone)
-it's pretty much just switching Athena being framed for murder with Phoenix, and instead of the trial ending on a cliffhanger, it continues on (probably with Klavier insisting on it) ending with soloman being found innocent and Phoenix being declared guilty
-There's a couple days inbetween the end of the cosmic turnabout and the start of turnabout for tomorrow, so Athena, Apollo and Trucy all get a little bit to process the fact that "oh god my boss/my dad killed someone" (simons execution date is pushed back a bit in this au) and they probably get to talk with Klavier and eventually a lil bit with Simon after he gets out
-Im not sure how it all winds down in turnabout for tomorrow (Phoenix escaping and being at large is basically the perfect cover for the phantom to resume being fulbright for that trial) but they do eventually realize that the phoenix who confessed wasn't the real one and now there's a search on going to find out where the real one is being held captive, hes fineeee just ready to take a week long nap and a good vacation (along with every other waa member)
-I dont have anything else to add on rn but if you want to add something or just throw in a scenario feel free to!! this idea has been bouncing around my head for like a month now and Im very happy to finally show yall it
#ace attorney#ace attorney dual destinies#apollo justice#athena cykes#klavier gavin#phoenix wright#copycat au#indys art#apollo faints like- 0.5 seconds after the verdict is called which is very understandable#Apollo and Athenas horrible no good very bad court trial#and klavier isn't fairing any better tbh HJGKHL#no one is doing well at all and it gets worse before it gets better hjgkhl#Im both very excited but also TERRIFED posting this#I rarely try to actually write actual serious dialogue for characters cause im not a writer-so im hoping it's like- halfway decent HGJKH#I may be anxious as hell but Im going to be very brave and post this instead of- not doing that HJGKHL#I also tried to push myself a bit with this one so I included more panels to work on and coloured it#I like how it came out though!!#I hope u enjoy <3#also if something doesn't make sense blame it on the fact that I wrote the caption and these tags at like 2:30 am

I wish every time a cultural figure was outed for having done horrific things or having deplorable views there weren't the resulting 20 thousand opinion articles and video essays about "How to deal with your fav being a horrible person" like we can't just grow up and face that it's a fact about the world and have compassion for any victims and try and learn from it
#It just feels grifty ig. This isn't the first time any of us have experienced this. Why cant we just be adults#It feels coddling too. Like aww so sad I'm sorrty the thing you liked is ruined :(#Which I think it's fair to lament that the legacy of something you enjoy is tarnished but it's all feels tina too much......#There is a well of that kind of article that already exists. following the portrayal of the grey wardens through the games you can really see them going from this obscure culty group to full-on army. and while technically the wardens have always been supposed to be a military order, this really is not the experience for hof during the game. duncan who brings the warden in proceeds to die barely managing to spare any time for your joining. but hey at least you found some treaties in the ancient ruins in the forest. then the warden and alistair, the only remaining wardens in ferelden to their knowledge, go on to interfere in thedasian politics left and right in some roundabout ways and accept suspicious individuals into their merry band because it's apocalypse times and you might just become friends along the way. you cross the entire ferelden on foot more than once. the money you've looted off corpses is barely enough for a steady supply of health and lyrium potions. you find one blood mage warden doing some highly unethical research in an abandoned castle who might help you. you find one more warden in a torture dungeon (you have not been looking for him) who tells you you are going to die and then also dies himself. and this is what shaped the warden's idea of what the wardens do in general.
and then they make hof the warden-commander. just consider. the warden vanishes for a week. upon their return they ask the warden laying out a hundred gold on the table "i take it the trade in the vigil's keep is booming?". "idk but the darkspawn carry a lot more coin on them than in denerim, i wonder what it says about the economy" says the warden.
or
"the nobles do not like you, warden-commander"
"would procuring some mythical holy relic make them feel better? or i can just sneak into their cellars"
"um just talk to them in the hall during this important ceremony, warden-commander"
no wonder the warden quits soon after the events of the awakening and goes on to research the calling. they don't have work experience in training an army, but they certainly have the skillset for a dangerous and mysterious search quest.
#to be fair this isn't equally true for all backgrounds like cousland would likely have a better idea of what to do as a commander#my surana certainly didn't though#i also think the warden due to all the origins experiences is privy to most of the shadiest stuff the wardens get up to#which makes them some of the most qualified people to research the calling#dragon age#dragon age origins#dragon age awakening#dao#the warden#hero of ferelden#dragon age headcanon

the thing is you can have the nicest dude as a coworker who'll agree that you're gonna handle your boss in a way that means you both get to do the specialised and paid for degree for a promotion, but when it comes down to it you'll still have to walk into the damn meeting and make sure yourself that you won't get sidelined. it does not matter how progressive your workspace or how nice and chill your boss
anyway guess who's going back to school at the end of the year, at the cost of my employer, to eventually become head of their department. and guess who made sure to get that in writing because fuck that shit. respectfully 😌💅
#*mine#mona rambles#tales of an office job#like i don't even think it was malicious or even on purpose but like#if i hadn't just invited myself to that meeting as if obviously i was meant to be there#I'd absolutely would've been passed over/gotten a oh we can talk about this later kinda attitude and like. no#we're talking about this now amd you're gonna give it to me in writing because that was the deal under which i agreed at all#to be the one who sits back for half a year. because i haven't finished training yet and that's fair and reasonable#but then you /will/ let me do that. peace and love 🥰#like man sometimes I'm so glad people-pleasing isn't one of my many issues. sometimes I'm so glad I'm a bit of a bitch 🫶#anyway now i do have to go back to school. the quencies alas

rdj the (whitewashed) electric boogaloo
This is a reminder to everyone who's excited about RDJ's casting as Doctor Doom that this casting is whitewashing. Victor Von Doom is a Romani character and has been a Romani character since his introduction in the 1960s. (Fantastic Four Annual #2 [1964]) Not only that, but his Roma identity and the persecution he and his family faced due to it is integral to his character, it is what forms his identity. (Books of Doom by Ed Brubaker) Even if on the off chance this casting is meant to not be Victor but instead be some variant of Tony or whomever else becoming Doctor Doom, it is damaging to the character to rob him of that important cultural background. Doctor Doom does not exist without that history. Fans have been pushing hard to cast Doom as a Romani actor for years, especially since the MCU has whitewashed other Romani characters. (Wanda, Pietro, etc) This casting is not a celebration moment, it's fucking heartbreaking that the MCU repeatedly ignores the important and nuanced cultural backstories of characters.
I know I can't change anybody's mind on whether or not you want to be excited about RDJ's return to the MCU. But I do think at the very least you should be mad that the MCU is baiting us all and destroying nuanced and interesting characters for the sake of self-referential easter eggs and nostalgia bait. Because that's what it is. Feel how you'd like to feel about RDJ's return, but personally, this is soul-sucking. I had such a deep love for the MCU as a teenager, it was obviously something incredibly formative to me, especially Tony Stark. This isn't recreating what I fell in love with the MCU for. This is turning a well-planned and artistic storyline of adaptations into cheap cash grabs and fan service. Because, I think we're past the point of being able to call the MCU an adaptation of anything. They can use existing characters' names and powers, but to say they're being properly adapted is laughable.
This is not an adaptation of Doctor Doom. This is RDJ the Electric Boogaloo because Marvel's fear of losing the interest of dedicated MCU fans overrides their willingness to tell stories that are genuine to the characters. I don't know what there is to be excited about that. The MCU has lost its authenticity and aside from a few projects, feels heartless. Every movie is a copy of a copy. This announcement isn't something celebratory, it feels like a death knell of a cinematic universe that's so desperate to cling to relevancy it's resorting to nostalgia for a character/actor who hasn't even been dead for a decade. We're not getting anything new, we're just rinsing and repeating the same song and dance.
I get it. I love Tony Stark, his death destroyed me and I to this day, rue the ending he got in Endgame. It misunderstood his arc and it robbed him of a satisfying conclusion. But the solution to that isn't dragging the corpse out of the grave five years later to whitewash an existing character with rich and interesting nuance, just to forcibly tie his existence in the MCU to Tony. Whether he is a variant or not. Why would you want someone else's fave's legacy to be destroyed simply so your fave's legacy can go on? Hell, if we were really all so hellbent on the return of RDJ and/or Tony to the MCU, we have the multiverse for a reason. There were other ways to do it that didn't whitewash and ruin someone else. This just. Isn't something to be happy about.

"It's normal for siblings to fight" Okay well it's not normal to be extremely classist and look down on your sister for being non-conforming. Or to go to the woman who ordered the death of your pet to tell her about your father's plans, when he specifically warned you against doing so, because you want to marry the boy you saw attack your sister and her friend (contributing partially to said father's death and your sister being unable to escape on the ship he chartered). Or to think of your sibling as unsatisfactory in comparison to another when you believe her to be dead. I notice that none of the "Sansa and Arya are going to reunite and instantly have no issues" crowd ever acknowledge any of this, which makes it seem like they don't actually believe what they say about their relationship being normal and easily reconciled. People wanting them to have no issues simply because they're siblings is another example of how fandom likes to flatten complex characters and relationships. They get reduced to being bickering siblings when their conflict runs deeper than that. If the author is telling you that they have "deep issues" to work out [X], I don't understand being so adamant about ignoring said issues. I also get the sense it's about ignoring the capacity for a certain character to be flawed, but that isn't going to change the fact that her "slip of the tongue" is very likely to be revealed and a source of further conflict 🤷🏾♀️
#arya stark#sansa stark#house stark#asoiaf#also if it's so normal for siblings to fight then why are you guys losing your minds over us theorizing they won't get along??#the amount of condescending /that's just how siblings act/ takes I see 🙄#sorry I guess? that we read the book and don't just delete parts of the story because we find it convenient?#it's not even like takes about them being enemies is widespread the most I see is that they aren't instantly bffs when they reunite 😭#some people theorize they'll never be close but guess what? that's a completely fair and valid assumption based on their relationship!#personally I think they'll have a sweet reunion before the issues they have inevitably surface again because while they've been through#a lot they haven't fundamentally changed as people or the values they hold#and I think that's going to be very interesting to read about!#I can't figure out why people always take the most boring bland route for how things will play out#mostly because people seem to be unable to swallow the concept that Sansa is a flawed character who isn't perfectly sweet all the time#and the fact that their conflict is instigated by Sansa's classism#which is funny cause in the grand scheme of things her being mean to Arya is such a mild thing that opens the door to a ton of growth#never seen anybody but stansas equating her being a bully to her sister to her being evil/a villain#all we do is point out that it exists in the story...people in this fandom have no concept of nuance I stg 😭#anyways they're both complex characters and their conflict is interesting and I hope we get to see how it plays out#cause it's definitely going to be better then that trash d&d came up with 🙏🏾
