Okay I’m sorry to be so critical but literally Dustin was very close friends with Max and at one point had a big crush on her, so why are we deprived of him acknowledging her death/hospitalization??? I know he got the scenes mourning Eddie bc he was like an older brother figure but he should be mourning Max as well considering their long history together. I mean people are talking about how Steve, Nancy, etc. didn’t mention Eddie’s death, which is kinda crappy on the writers side, but imo it’s infinitely worse for Dustin to not have a single care in the world about one of his best friends. Like it’s actually ooc bc??? He cared so much for her???

Every time I see someone complain about the wealth of monologues in Midnight Mass, I just want to shake them and whisper, “It is a direct reference to Catholic homilies. It is. It is a direct reflection of the heart of a Catholic sermon.” Every character is granted the ability, regardless of what they believe, to offer the audience their own sermon. Science. Experience with abuse or addiction or bigotry. Hopes for the future. Forgiveness. Every character is given the chance to reflect back to the audience, via a homily, the heart of what’s going on in their world.

It is intentional, y’all.

Not to side with the terfs, i hate transphobia as much of the next person, but this news is unsettling to me. You're always talking about boundaries yet have sex with your fiance even though you're asexual? As someone who loves this blog and cares about you that feels concerning. You should be respecting your own boundaries, too.

I am respecting my own boundaries. I honestly think the notion that my consent isn’t valid because I’m asexual isn’t great.

Asexual doesn’t mean “sex is gross and bad”. That’s sex repulsion. And I am not sex repulsed. (Sex repulsed asexuals are valid, but don’t assume all asexuals are sex repulsed.)

I’m answering this because it does seem sent in good faith. And I’m hoping that I can word this in a way that makes sense.

While I don’t enjoy sex on the physical level people expect (and some asexuals do honestly! Asexual means we don’t feel sexual attraction not that we can’t enjoy sex), I do enjoy it on an emotional level with my partner. I enjoy it the way I enjoy cuddling my partner. I enjoy the closeness and bonding.

I realize you meant well, but please don’t invalidate my consent. I am freely giving my consent. And suggesting that because I’m asexual my consent isn’t valid just feels really wrong to me on so many levels (and this might be me feeling sensitive but it kind of feels like I’m being infantilized and not capable of making decisions like that which I definitely am.)

In all honesty, you invalidating my consent genuinely upsets me. Having sex with my partner? Doesn’t upset me at all. I think that’s an important perspective to have.

The more I think on it I have exactly 0 qualms with Rue’s actions

Like they didn’t know Hob’s mission until ep 6 at the end, and there was that moment of surprise that it was his victories that led to the almost engagement - that was an interesting moment, especially as they tell him he was used. Rue knows plenty about being used

Also the conversation got cut away from right as Hob asked if Rue or Binx knew who had done it, likely for dramatic effect

Rue’s letter after the masquerade ball talks about wanting to KNOW Hob - what would’ve happened if that letter had actually been delivered? Would they have had a version of this conversation then?

And seriously like why THIS engagement? Why was this the one they had to break up? What was different about it? There had to be something, right??? I suppose it could just be a “straw that breaks the camel’s back” sort of thing, and it seemed like they were maybe thinking of revealing themselves at this Bloom anyway and meeting Hob tipped the scales, but I gotta know what sparked it

But no matter what it was - this is a being who was ripped from their home and made to be what this court wanted them to be, and they contorted themself into that box for millennia, working painstakingly to ensure everyone else around them might know love, or happiness, all the while being kept at arm’s length in their own court because of their origins

And something, whatever it was, finally made them go, “enough!”

And it happened before the engagement was even officially announced. Still scandalous, sure, but at least gives the goblin court plausible deniability

The whole season has had significant themes of This System Sucks so I’m just not overly Concerned about the reputation of the courts

Particularly not of a court that has been happy to use and abuse a member to the point where he gets so close to almost DYING because he won’t remove the DAMN ARROWS FROM HIS BACK out of his misguided sense of honor and service (that they knowingly take advantage of)

Hob, who has also been an outsider, who has dealt with that by fully sublimating his own sense of self, a full on trauma response

Who danced with someone 6 or 8 times and could only think “how nice of them to take pity on me”

But god forbid someone inadvertently make his terrible court look bad lol

And that’s the point, isn’t it - they’re all terrible

Love and happiness are not important, only perception, and power, and influence

The only one not obsessed with power and status is Binx’s court, and they got consumed, an easy target that wasn’t even trying to fight back, was just trying to do their own thing

Years and years and years of do this, say that, smile here, play nice, don’t upset the system, most too entrenched in their own survival mechanisms to do anything but go along

Which is fair enough, but let’s not hold the person trying to change things responsible for the failures of the system they’re trying to change

If people don’t feel like they have a choice, that’s the courts’ fault

And dismantling the courts is the only way out

Rue might be one of the only ones capable of that

Why do authors do this thing where they make a great hilarious wonderful delightful protagonist for the first book- and then never make that a character a POV character ever again for the rest of forever. Like-

The Locked Tomb Series by Tamsyn Muir

The Montague Siblings Series by Mackenzie Lee

The Queen’s Thief Series by Megan Whalen Turner

And I’m sure there’s more. But like…why do they do this?? 😭 I know they get disappointed when the following books gets less hype- once the POV character is revealed anyway- but surely they knew that was inevitable?

Authors should absolutely write what they want and I get that. But damn does it suck when the first book is like, the best meal you’ve ever had, and for the rest of the books you have to like, lick the plate for scraps of whatever’s left of your favorite thing from the first book.

(That’s not to say that there aren’t other good things about the following books. But there’s a lot of good books with good things in them. But each of the first books in the series above introduce such a fantastic protagonist that the readers fell in love with that character and- for me and a lot of other readers- those characters is what pushed those books from “good” to “favorites”. So like, yeah the following books may be good wonderfully written books, but when you take away what made Book 1 a favorite, its only natural that your reader’s investment is going to fade.)

EDIT: I failed to mention when I wrote this that I gave up on Harrow the Ninth early. This was apparently a Mistake because I’m being told that finishing the book might change my mind about including it in this list. So I’m gonna do that!

Dustin: “So, if you two get married, whose last name are you taking?”

Will: “What?”

Dustin: “Like when gay marriage becomes legal, are you gonna be the Wheelers, or the Byers?”

Will: “…It's a moot point, because we can’t get married.”

Dustin: “Just, hypothetically though? Because either Mike is gonna be Michael Byers, or you’re gonna be Will Wheeler.” He gasps suddenly, excited. “Or, you could be the Hoppers!!”

Will snorts. “Mike would never agree to have the same last name as Hop, Dustin.”

Dustin laughs. “Okay, that’s true. But then we’re back to the original question: Byers or Wheeler?”

Will sighs. “Byers-Wheeler.”

D: “Huh?”

W: “Byers-Wheeler. Then Mike could be Michael B. Wheeler and I could be Will Byers-Wheeler.”

D: “So you have thought about this?”

W: “Of course I have Dustin, I had a crush on him for years! I didn’t want the love of my life going around with a name that sounded like an axe murderer.”

D: “And you didn’t want the alliteration.”

W: “Of fucking course I don’t. I’d sound like a cartoon character.” A pause. “Don’t tell Max I said that.”

D, smug: “I accept bribes in the form of candy.”

Catching him in the pink and white hello kitties that were part of a 5 piece set??? I’m not sure whether the right response would be finding it cute or getting mad he was stretching them out with his big ass feet.
