☕️ Honestly, he calls you too many affectionate names, ranging from his mother tongue over to whatever language you speak. It almost seems as if he has forgotten your actual name at times. Though, when he does call it out, it probably frightens you a bit. It becomes such a rare occurrence that you expect something bad. Lysandre sees no need to change what he refers to you as in public or not, too. The only time he may drop it all together was for anything related to business.

☕️ He tends to lean towards things like “my love” or “my dear,” but “darling” and even “my angel” when he is feeling oddly emotional. Sycamore gives a laugh at all the endearments that he counts whenever you both visit. It is genuinely loving when coming from him, as he rarely feels so strongly and lovingly towards another person.

☕️ In bed, nothing changes too much. He prefers to lather on affection and love wherever he can. Though, oddly, the frequency in which your actual name is spoken increases in more intimate moments. It seems he finds the use of your actual name something deeper than most of the affectionate terms be usually spills out.

“My love,” Lysandre's deep voice called out to you while you were slipping on your shoes to leave. You were shocked to see him home so early. He rarely came home near the midafternoon, often inundated with work or whatever else came up in his professional life. An arm came around you warmly as he pressed a kiss to your cheek and then to your lips. “Where are you going?” You sighed slightly. No where now, you supposed, while leaning into the warmth of his embrace.

🪨 He struggles a lot with endearments. It honestly is a bit embarrassing how he feels trying to think of what he could possibly call you. Maxie felt there was no need for such things. Despite that, however, he found himself with a few to use in private with you. In public, he was much too formal to even dare call you anything but your name. He did not wish to seem overly soft. His reputation as the leader of Team Magma was important.

🪨 Though, as soon as you both are alone, a “beloved” escapes him. He prefers more “formal” affectionate terms. “Dearest” and “my love” are also not so uncommon. Yet, sometimes he does drift to something softer, like calling you “Numel.” He always catches himself after that one, gets flustered, and denies that he even said it. It is a real compliment, rest assured, as he finds the pokemon utterly adorable.

🪨 Maxie does not really use different terms during sex. (Though, “Numel” certainly does not make an appearance there.) There is something a little bit funny about his flustered face and moans mixed with the term “beloved” escaping his lips. Since sex falls firmly in his private time with you, there is no reason for his choice of endearments to change, he feels.

You heard the door click open as you laid on the couch, bored. “I'm home, beloved,” Maxie's voice called out as he entered the room. He had been away all day, busy with whatever his group was doing nowadays. You perked up at the sight of him and rushed over immediately. He flinched as you squeezed him into a tight hug, nuzzling into the knit texture of his sweater. He was so warm. “My, what's this?” the Magma leader chuckled. Shifting out of his work mindset, he allowed himself to embrace you in return. He had come to love you greeting him after a long day of work. “I missed you, too,” he sighed and pressed a gentle kiss to your head. When you gazed up at him with lidded eyes and a tired expression, he had to bite back, mumbling out a “Numel.”

💧 How many marine and pirate terms can this man use to refer to you? It truly is a mystery as to where he finds all of these terms in his head, but you suppose he was nothing if not obsessed with the ocean. Archie honestly prefers endearments to your real name, clearly a sign of his affection if his calling a certain kid scamp was anything to go by. He nearly always refers to you by some pet name or endearment that has crossed.  Worries do cross your mind that he has actually forgotten your name. (You test him to make sure he has not. Archie was extremely confused by this afterward, but he passed it with ease.)

💧 “Luvdisc” is his favourite term to use overall, clearly enchanted by the association with the pokemon to long-lasting relationships. “Treasure” is another favourite, but somehow gets outshone by the fish. There are also a few “darlin's” that come from him when he tries to change up hos dialogue a bit. Maxie gags at his gratuitous use of the terms around him, but everyone else thinks it is pretty run-of-the-mill for Archie. He is just an affectionate guy, so why would that not reflect in what he calls his lover? You certainly do not mind.

💧 Within the confines of sheets, he does tend to lean more towards the use of “treasure.” He feels a bit to overcome to really even say Luvdisc. Besides, you clearly are a treasure, somehow even more precious than his beloved ocean. There may also be a few more easier terms tossed around, like just straight up “love.” His brain power is going elsewhere in those moments, please excuse him. Though, if he ever uses the term love and you are not heading in an intimate direction, rest assured that you are now.

“Luvdisc,” Archie's voice travelled across the beach with a near terrifying volume. You peeked up from your phone as he rushed to your side. His grin was bright and his form as caught in the hot sun beautifully. His favouritism for a certain nickname for you was always apparent. He squeezed you in a tight embrace, even spinning you around for a moment. “Ah, there's my treasure. Thought I'd lost for a moment,” he let out a sigh. You nearly let one out, too. You were just about to call him, but that was clearly unneeded now. A kiss was shared between you both before settling down on the sands to enjoy the afternoon.

☄️ He refuses to use terms of endearment when literally anyone else is around. Cyrus is not one for allowing himself to seem influenced or emotional. While he may love you dearly, there is not a chance he would express that in the sight of other people. It almost becomes expected for your name to called out by the blue-haired man when he wants your attention. It would be a bit depressing if you were not already aware of how restrained he was. There are a few rare moments a more affectionate term slips from him with people around, but that usually is reserved for when he is in distress.

☄️ But, he does allow himself a momentary escape when alone with you. “Beloved” is his go to and typically the only one he ever seems to use. It fits him oddly. Though, he also uses other terms more sparingly. A “dear” and “wife/husband/spouse” are generally used, too. It may seem a bit stiff, especially when paired with how standoffish Cyrus could be, but it was clear from how he unconsciously shifted to them that discreetly showed that he truly cared. No one else gets called by anything but their name by him, after all. You are even allowed to call him whatever you please with people around. His soft spot for you is more than apparent.

☄️ As for in bed… He barely uses different terms. Beloved does seem to be ditched in favour of the convenience that “dear” provides in his stricken state. His brain is not working as he intends it to. He struggles to say a lot during sex usually, anyway, so it is a bit invigorating to hear the affectionate word escape his lips. Though, if he does say your actual name, that either means he is truly overcome with feelings or upset. It is pretty easy to find out which it is.

⭐️ Truthfully, he uses endearments extremely sparingly. There is something that he finds about referring to other people with a term that shows how much you feel about them very uncomfortable. Though, with you, it is quite unfortunate how easy the terms slip off his tongue. Volo supposes a part of it is how obvious he wants to make your relationship to any observers. He would admit he does have a slight jealous schism internally. Of course, he does it for you, too. The blond is fully aware of how much you enjoy hearing him call you such sweet terms.

⭐️ He usually falls into the camp of things like “love,” “dear,” and “darling.” Traditional time-tested things. There is a certain mocking tone he may take after everything is said and done by calling you a “chosen one.” That falls somewhere between a genuine endearment and him being cruel, however. Most people will also get sick with him referring to you as his partner/girlfriend/boyfriend. It is clear to most people paying attention that it some strange from a claiming on his part. Of course, you can only stare at him in adoration whenever he uses them.

⭐️ Alas, Volo definitely drops a lot of his loving facade in bed. His tone can be that of someone filled completely with love or malice, depending on the situation. The terms are the same, but he may also lean more towards sneering out a “chosen one” to vent out some of his frustrations. Just be happy it is with his dick consensually this time and not trying to have Giratina kill you this time around. He may also use a bit more degrading terms, but telling him off usually makes him stop.

“Oh, if it isn't my love,” Volo's voice was recognisable, but especially so when you two met while you were out doing research tasks. His smile was nothing but friendly as he approached you. “Can I interest you in some more pokeballs?” his tone was teasing now. You sighed as tugged on his bag's strap to pull him down to your height. These random run-ins have become more common since you started dating. It was more than obvious he likely had an eye out for you… And was neglecting his merchant duties once again. You could not complain when he pecked a quick kiss to your lips. It seemed you both would be spending a decent amount of time along together in the wilds of Hisui.

□ This big, bad boss loves calling you whatever pet name he can think of. He literally probably only says your name if he is asking someone else for you. Guzma just does not really see a point in not doing it. He basically calls everyone by nicknames. Except for Kukui, but he is an exception, not the rule. He does not care about whether it is socially acceptable or not, he just does what he wants and isn't concerned with the looks he gets for saying “babe.”

□ He leans towards more casual, modern terms. “Babe” is one of the bigger ones, but he will occasionally bring out a “cutie” or “sexy.” The latter often gets him a few side eyes. A rarer one that seems to only used when he is certain no one else is around is “love-bug.” You try not to laugh at it because you can tell he is trying his best to combine his love for bug-types with his feelings for you. Though, you saw Plumeria choke out a laugh when she heard him say it to you once. It was a bit funny seeing Guzma say such a thing while trying to keep up his edgy appeal.

□ In bed, he does not really change what he says too much. Cutie may not rear its head, but sexy and babe are certainly a plenty. He may even combine if he feels so inclined. Though, it may also be a product of him losing his mental focus in the throes of passion. Your name is occasionally blurted out within the brain-mush of words, too. He is a bit of a mess, honestly.

“Hey, babe!” Guzma's voice stood out among the crowd of people that had taken over the usually quiet route. Rumours about some rare pokemon apparently drew them in, making it annoying to navigate despite needing to. His hand caught your arm as he pulled you under his own, determined not to get separated again. You heard him mumble something about annoying tourists under his breath as both managed to get out of the crowded place. “What the hell is so great about that many Meowths?” he complained, “If they wanna see a collection, I'd be happy to point them to that Kahuna's house.” You chuckled at the thought. Guzma only pressed you more into his side while walking down the route. It seemed like showing you the Wimpod nest would be on hold for today.

Some snippets of a longer meeting I found fascinating. (I don't know if Yuyama has social media, but I hope he doesn't because because OOF. Like, it's okay that he has his own vision for the character and and everything, but said vision of that eternal adventurer was why I dropped the series as a kid. I just had burnout. 😅)

So, a bit of context from my personal experience with the old Ash anime, and sorry if it is a little rambly. I had originally started watching from early OS (the first episode I ever saw was when I was 6, and it was the one where Ash catches Bulbasaur), and stopped following it in mid-Hoenn (when I was maybe 11 or 12), which was when I caught onto the loop they had Ash in, that he'd never really reach a conclusion to his journey and it was really just meant to be an eternal adventure rather than something to make real progress in. (I would watch episodes if there were characters I liked, or if it just happened to be on, but I couldn't get invested in Ash anymore. I would watch for pretty much everybody else.) To me, it felt like you were just supposed to watch until you matured and were expected to leave, so that's pretty much what I did.

I tried coming back in Unova after playing BW, because I really loved the games and was excited to see Team Plasma in the anime, and it had a very promising start with the quicker pacing, but then came the earthquake and the cancelled two-parter, so I pretty much dropped the series again because there was no Plasma in sight until roughly two years later. I watched the league, but Cameron and the way Plasma (sans N) was handled pissed me off enough that I dropped the series entirely until TSME reeled me back in with Lysandre, and I joined Tumblr close to the time XYZ came out, so I just started watching the anime as a weekly thing from the Flare Arc on because it seemed like a fun thing to do for this blog. (I was also getting caught up on what I missed around this time.)

But even despite coming back and doing that, I still wasn't particularly invested in Ash, tho I was happy when he made big strides in his journey, like when he won the Alola League. I was here for the Aether family in SM, and all the returning characters in Journeys. When it came time that they were announcing their plans to retire Ash my literal reaction was YELLING, "We're finally FREE???"

It's pretty much one of the biggest reasons I gravitated to Horizons, besides being interested in the new cast. It seems to have a clear ending in mind with the way the plot is headed. Like, because the main mysteries are centered around Terapagos and the Explorers/Lucius, I really don't think we'll continue following them after everything's resolved. It might be risky changing casts, but that variety makes things way more interesting. (It's just more fun that way, having more characters to talk about, discussing favorites and least favorites with people.)

A Quick Chat About AZ

Which won't be quick at all.

I've talked for a little about coming to understand Lysandre, and now I'd like to talk about AZ, who is still somewhat of a mystery to me. We know of his backstory, but what I'm missing is what defines his personality. We don't speak with him enough in game to know it, so I had to do some digging around so I can form some assumptions. Most of this post will be me using Canon and Non-Canon [But still official] sources to get a grasp on what kind of man AZ is, just in case we don't get more information about him in Legends ZA.

-I want to know what he's like, because I want to make more artwork with him. ^^'-

Before I get into what I've found, I want to first talk about a character who I think is clearly defined, by his sheer simplicity. That's right,

It's Larry.

Larry, for example, has very clear likes and dislikes. He's an overworked, professional, brooding, middle aged man, who has respect for rules and simplicity. He dresses plainly, and uses relatively ordinary or normal type pokemon. He's vocal and assertive of his preferred lifestyle, to the point of stubbornness [ of which is only thwarted by his desire for his paycheck]. He also loves food and the pursuit of an extraordinary meal. Despite his introvert-like demeanor, he's shown to be friendly, deeply contemplative, and hiding a quirky, dad joke-like sense of humor.

With all of this, I can extrapolate what kind of decisions Larry would make if I were to put him in a new non-canonical situation. And, I can also define where I'd like to bend or add on to his personality in my own form of fandom play.

Now, back to the main topic. All of this to digest with a grain of salt. I also apologize in advance if I hop around a little between sources.

AZ, I can only assume is underutilized because of his grand age. 3,000 years old, means 3,000 years of knowledge or a direct eye witness of history. He wondered in search of his best friend, gradually witnessing the world transition from ancient to modern. Chances are, he can answer regional mysteries that gamefreak wouldn't want to touch upon. So, he's here one moment, and then gone the next after serving his key purpose in the game narrative.

Which brings me to all of the other official items I looked into and some thoughts on his intelligence. I watched his appearance in the Pokemon Generations Episode 18: The Redemption. [ no one asked but i think i prefer the japanese voice much more ] And I also was given a data bank to look through Pokemon XY game script.

AZ build the ultimate weapon. Though, if he had any assistance with it, it's unspecified. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, in the recent XY development leaks, Sycamore, Lysandre, and AZ were all the same character, before the role was properly divided into three. Still, I'm under the impression, that AZ wasn't just a king, but a well respected researcher.

There’s research material on the bookshelf [In Lysandre Labs] “The king was proud of the technology he had used to bring Kalos prosperity, but he couldn’t help but use it in a way that had never been intended... AZ, the man who was king, disappeared.”

I think, AZ being keenly intelligent, is an easy assertion to make. He could build and operate complicated machinery, and probably still can. There are even more side notes I can make about his more complex understanding of pokemon. I don't think I have the clarity of mind to pull out even more examples, so I'll use just this one:

AZ does have a Golurk of unspecified age on his small team. I wonder...is it possible he built his Golurk himself? There are many pokadex entries stating the creation of, and ancient use of pokemon in these old cities. AZ appears to understand the infinite energy that dwells within pokemon well enough to contribute to the society he ruled over. I don't think 'artificial' pokemon construction is beyond his understanding, if he knew well enough that he could bring one back to life.

Moving along.

After building the weapon to revive his friend:

"...his rage still had not subsided."

I absolutely love this flashback sequence. I love how they portrayed the rawness of AZ's emotions. The unnerving look in his eye as his horrific choice forms. You get the sense that he truly did just...snap.

Which Makes Me Wonder: How tethered is AZ to his emotions? Is he like Lysandre, who appears to allow himself to freely feel his own anger and frustration, letting it drive him to obssession. Does he have a slight sense of entitlement, too? Entitled to take the world's problems and other lives in his hands. If so, did he leave that wicked part of himself behind?

AZ is royalty. He's a former -literal- king during a time of war, unlike Lysandre who's a more metaphorical king during a time of general peace. That may be an excuse for him easily taking on, beyond important, harrowing decisions. I wonder if this was the most difficult point in his reign. That aside, AZ doesn't seem to be concerned with that title living in modern day.

He doesn't demand that he should be treated like his former title. I'm going to make another assumption that he has let that go a long time ago. He struggles with being forgiven, maybe even struggles with caring about himself. He's traded his old royal regalia, a robe, golden arm cuffs, and golden neck piece, for old, worn, patchy clothes. He doesn't care about his royalty, or his clothes, and AZ never makes any mention that I can remember about his own height.

None of it appears to matter to him. Only "where is she?"

Speaking of.

AZ's ability to hold on to hope is...something.

When yeh know for certain sure yeh ain’t never gonna meet again... Well, yeh can give in and accept it. But if yeh think there might be a chance, and yeh wander the world for 3,000 years tortured by that flicker of hope... I tell yeh, sprout. I couldn’t have stood it.

I don't think I could have stood it either. To not give up on his Floette for 3,000 years, to muscle through that torture until finally you meet again. What would you call the kind of 'grit' that would make you endure something like this? In the XY manga, he's plagued by nightmares of his past. He described his ordeal officially in the game as 'endless suffering'. Is it a certain kind of stubbornness? A kind of unconditional love? I'm not sure... AZ, in another one of my opinions, has got to be one of the series' most strong willed characters. You can't survive 3,000 years with weak resolve. He can't die of old age, but..well...

...

Despite the horrors he's capable of, he's got a gentle quality to him. I like the contrast, between a giant and a pokemon so delicate and tiny. I'm sure the juxtaposition of AZ and his Floette is purposeful, and in itself helps inform of his character.

This is from the Pokemon Adventure XY Manga, and isn't canonical, but...look at him. I found him greeting Trevor's Flabebe so sweet. He's respectful to the children also, and doesn't belittle them in the slightest.

His smile. He calls her beautiful, and she is! He has some stony expressions, but also some very softened ones in Anime, Game, and Manga. He hasn't lost his ability to smile after all this time. Which is nice...

OOF, I've been writing this for a long while, so I'll wrap things up. I can't trust myself to write a comprehensive summary, like Larry, at this time, but I hope to have one later. Again, I'm hoping Legends ZA will provide more before I start my true 'blorbo madness'.

Here are all of my assumptions in a list AZ is:

Extraordinarily Intelligent, capable of making and operating dangerous technology. I believe he wasn't just a King, but a contributing engineer/ researcher.

Deeply emotional, allowing himself to openly cry, feel anger, and sorrow. Despite his intelligence, his emotions can cloud his judgement. THOUGH, he may have much more emotional maturity now. [ i find it interesting both he and lysandre are allowed to shed tears ]

Strong of will, or is a person of unwavering conviction.

Stern, somewhat of a languisher, but gentle.

Whenever I tell people that I draw, they typically ask me what it is that I draw. And that becomes somewhat akward for me. Because everything that I do draw is Lysandre and/or Sycamore. So it usually just comes out as "Oh you know, uhhh... just two guys from Pokémon?" To which the person I'm talking to usually just nods at. But that's where my brain starts going into panic mode like: Do they think it's childish that, I, Kat Ursem, a person who is supposed to be mature and smart and so on likes Pokémon?? Or do their Pokémon knowledge only extend to that one time in 2016 where they played Pokémon GO, and in reality they think I'm some kind of lunatic that just made up two guys in my head???? Or do they really know what I mean by 'two guys from Pokémon'??? I mean there are a lot of 'two guys from Pokémon' out there. Do they know that I mean two very specific characters from a very specific set of games that got realsed over a decade ago, that everyone in the community either hates or loves??? Am I crazy???

hiiii i will do my best to give tips!! o7

first of all if you want to get a feel for blinkie making without diving in directly i recommend using a site like blinkies.cafe which lets you just add text to premade blinkie templates! i think it's a good way to get an eye for the blinkies "aesthetic" especially regarding the actual blinking part, the borders, all of that. and ofc the size (which for the record is traditionally 150x20px!)

if you want to actually get into Real Custom-Made Blinkies, studying ones you like up close is a great idea because it'll help you see what works and what doesn't. obviously everyone will have different design sensibilities, but that's why it's always good to take inspiration from things that you personally like!

here are things that i like, as an example:

dotted/dashed borders that blink between two colors

shadows

outlines

pixel art

keep in mind that blinking can be upsetting to the eyes for some people! i always try to not overdo it, but at the same time, they are blinkies, so it seems kind of like a waste when they don't blink at all...

traditionally, blinkies include two things: a picture, and text. they don't always! sometimes there's only a picture, and sometimes there's only text. for example, this blinkie i made of lysandre only has his card art and little hearts. this is once again going to depend on your preferences. but for the sake of explaining, let's say you want one or two simple pictures, and some text.

i find pokémon to be a pretty easy thing to make blinkies for, because you have a large panel of pixel art to choose from! for example, i made this blinkie for my blog using one of the mini scyther sprites. a lot of them are animated, too, which is fun. i can't really advise you on what program to use for animated stuff because i use really old ones LMAO but i've always had a good time using ezgif! you can just feed it your frames and use the website to put them together into an animation.

the text imo is the trickiest part. the blinkies you find on blinkies.cafe use pixelated fonts, but i've had a really hard time using them outside of that context. it's hard to get them to look good imo, especially at the small scale that blinkies end up at... so what i've been doing is making my own little pixel art alphabet. it's very fun for me and i don't think it's as difficult as it sounds, so i definitely recommend it because it gives you a lot more flexibility imo. i handdrew the text for all of my PSS blinkies, as well as the aforementioned scyther one, and this trans rights one. i actually have the trans rights and PSS alphabets completed and saved in a file for later use in case i need them, lmao:

you can see what the process is like: i make a rectangle, draw one letter, and then copy the rectangle to draw the other ones at the same size and in the same style. it's very, um, vibe-based, i guess? you just have to figure out what looks good for your Vision. but i find it super fun... so it's easy for me to do, i guess...

if you want to see the scyther blinkies text closer up, here it is at 500% size:

uncapitalized letters are more difficult than capitalized letters imo, but i think i did an ok job! maybe i'll make a full alphabet for that one too at some point, lmao. for the "tumblr" text i just copied the style of the logo (hopefully that comes through...)

i'm not sure what else to say, so feel free to ask more specific questions if you'd like! i think a lot of the other stuff is more general art/graphics advice, like color theory and the likes, which i'm not sure is worth going over LOL. but as a parting note, i'd definitely suggest not going overboard on the color palette. blinkies are pretty small at their default size, and too many colors will make them really hard to look at, let alone understand. in general, keep in mind the final size when working on something like blinkies, and make sure to zoom out periodically to double check you've got something readable!

TEAM NEO FLARE PLANS PT. 2 (electric mommalu)

HELLO ONCE AGAIN, this is Sable, the player behind Ren and entirely too many others! We're getting closer to the date of the real meat of this plot getting started, so I figured I'd put out some feelers again just to see who still wants to take part/who else would wanna join in! This is a plot that is open to anyone who wants to partake; as long as I don't have you blocked in one manner or another, feel free to jump on in.

This plot is going to be pretty damn high stakes, and while part one of this plot is going to be the worst of it (cws for that: mind control, abusive mother behavior (emotional), murder of an adult, kidnapping of multiple adults, attempted kidnapping of a teenager, violence against a teenager), the second part will be very player determined! Though it will have some cws by default; namely endangerment of a child/teenager, the murder of two adults, the mentioned mind control of one of the admins, and a fair bit of violence. Though if you do wanna do something to your character, ask me first and I'll see what I can do. :|b And as a fair warning: part one has to be at least partially a scripted loss for the good guys, and I'm not willing to budge on this, and I would prefer minimal legendary/overpowered stuff interacting with this plot. I'm going to try not to godmod, and I'm going to ask for the same from y'all.

But anyway! I'm going to put this poll up first, since it'll be the main thing that decides when things are gonna happen. This is for part one of the plot, so feel free to vote which timeframe would be good! Other details below~ (also sorry for the pings in advance! i will need to check with peeps to see statuses on stuff)

Anywho! Let's go into the basics.

Part 1.1 of this plot is going to kickstart with Madison and Jacques being on the blog and leaving some little ciphers that are optional elements to be solved; mostly just letters and the like that Noriko exchanged with Lysandre at one point. The real meat of this will be taking place on one of the dates to be voted on, where Mads/Jacques will be getting kidnapped by Iori, a character who's been spying in Zapapico for Noriko for a while. She'll take over Ren's blog for the day for questioning and the like, and Ren will likely be reacting on Carmine's blog (along with the girl in question) while this all goes down, which is going to prompt Ren to escape BBA to save their friends, with the help of Millie/@porygonlover2009! Carmine will also be fleeing the academy, though shortly after Ren to try and tail them. This IS going to result in Millie herself being a boss encounter to fight against for anyone who wants to tail further, and while no pushover, she will try to prevent anyone from going after them and will need to be beaten. This much can be handwaved if needed!

Part 1.2 is where shit gets SPICY, and will take place on the voted upon date. This'll be taking place at the ruins of Cinnabar Island, where Ren and Carmine are going to meet Noriko, Camille, Iori, and a bunch of Neo Flare grunts. Try as Ren and Carmine might, they're going to get beaten both figuratively and literally, and will need some backup. Keep in mind: this is a scripted loss. If solely for Ren to fall under Noriko's thrall and kick the next leg of the plot under way. Carmine's own kidnapping is influenceable, but if I recall right, this'll be taken care of by the girlfriend, so help here will be appreciated to prevent anything from happening to anyone else who partakes!

From there, part 1 comes to a close, and we enter part 2: Neo Flare tries to end the world. I've actually got a blog getting set up (@team-neo-flare), but I want to encourage people to find them, and y'all are free to bring different skills to the table to do so! While Noriko is an amazing hacker and very good at keeping her location a secret, I fully intend to let people counter hack her or find where she's currently holed up, and this is the part where everyone can go as ham as they want.

There will be a few major fights in part 2: primarily, three against the admins of Team Neo Flare (Camille, Lotus, and Iori), and one final battle against Noriko and the Yveltal that she's kidnapped to do her bidding! I do have ways to help fudge a win for the good guys, but all in all, I'm leaving it very much up to y'all on how the story ends. :3b This leg of the plot will take place anywhere from October to December, depending on how my IRL job affects my energy, and while I'm hoping to get it done before the beginning of the new year, I can extend this out as much as needed.

So anyway! That about covers it. Here, I'll be outlying what I need here, and this'll be where the pings for the previous post will happen:

Patient File: Lysandre

It's the 4th of July.....so naturally I'm analyzing a Frenchman.

In public, Lysandre is the head of Lysandre Labs, a charitable philanthropist responsible for the Holocaster technology used across the Kalos region. In secret, Lysandre is the boss of Team Flare, a criminal group that wants to wipe out all life in Kalos, and then the world, save for a chosen few that will restore the environment to its original natural beauty and purge all perceived ugliness from life.

The difference between Lysandre's public perception and his true self is quite stark. What led a man of privilege like him to such extreme, misanthropic beliefs? And is there anything that can remedy it?

To start with, it must be noted that Lysandre is descended from ancient Kalosian royalty, being the brother of the infamous King who built and activated the Ultimate Weapon of legend. This status warped Lysandre's view of people early in his life. It made him believe that certain people are inherently better than others, that they are "chosen" for greatness. This belief also placed a great sense of burden upon him, as he made it his life's mission to live up to that greatness. He saw it as his duty to provide for his region, to give to those less fortunate, to help shape a brighter future for everyone.

But Lysandre's ideals ended up clashing with reality. For everything he provided, there were people who misused or squandered it. For all he gave to the poor, he couldn't single-handedly solve income inequality meaning there were always more poor people in need. And for as much as he tried to create a better future, he ended up seeing signs everywhere of a worse on. Some signs may have been legitimate, many likely just in his own paranoid mind, but whatever the case it left him devoid of satisfaction and fulfillment. Being a man whose emotions burn fiercely, Lysandre began to feel deep hatred. Hatred for people who didn't notice or care about how they were affecting society. Hatred for the poor whom he saw as "parasites" who didn't fight hard enough to advance themselves in favor of taking from those who worked for their fortune. And hatred for things like deforestation, pollution, crime, war, and general lack of decorum. Lysandre became a misanthrope, seeing fault in everyone but himself and "chosen ones" that he deemed respectable like himself.

While Lysandre does feel remorse for the lengths he is willing to go to in order to cleanse the world of all that he perceives to be ugly, knowing it to be morally wrong, he keeps himself on this path anyway because he feels it's the only solution and that as a chosen one it is his burden to bear - that he has come too far to turn back now. Despite this, Lysandre is pathologically hypocritical. He wishes to be someone who gives, and yet his ultimate plan is to take the lives of many. He hates selfish, greedy and frivolous people and yet many such people make up the ranks of Team Flare all because they had a lot of money which Lysandre automatically thinks makes them self-sufficient workers who benefit society. And he considers himself to be an idealist even though his view of everything and what must be done about it is so deeply cynical. It's to the point where he can manipulate and threaten and do unimaginably cruel things while still insisting it's other humans, including his victims, that are the problem. In one famous instance, he wept for the Pokémon of the world that he felt he had no choice but to kill, saying as long as they exist humans will be tempted to abuse them as tools, making them and others suffer. He says this while he is enacting a plan that is abusing Pokémon as tools, making them and others suffer! The depth of his delusion and utter lack of self-awareness is stunning to behold.

Diagnosis: Lysandre suffers from a triple whammy of Paranoid Personality Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder, and Narcissistic Personality Disorder, with sociopathic tendencies as well even if he lacks the criteria to be a full sociopath. Treatment will be exceedingly difficult, but one aspect of his warped psyche can be used to the advantage of this end: his respect for fellow "chosen ones". Lysandre is not narcissistic enough to believe that only he has value, as he takes the views of other chosen ones seriously even if he disagrees with them - a prime example being his friend Professor Sycamore. If such people keep working with Lysandre to show him better alternatives to the problems he sees than his genocidal aims, it is possible that he will calm down and adjust to a safer way. It will take a lot of time and effort, but it is recommended as the only way to save him. For if he isn't saved, then the likelihood of self-destruction is great, and unfortunately Lysandre is a man with the will and power to take many others down with him.

This patient is sometimes dangerous. It depends on whether or not he views you as among the "chosen" or not. If he does, you may engage with him intellectually. If he does not, avoid at all costs.

We're getting Rika and Poppy in Masters before our boy Arven, that MUST mean they are plotting something big with him right? RIGHT??

There's no way they don't put him in at all, he was voted best character in 2022, he's extremely popular... And I'm wondering if they are going to release him together with Sada and Turo (the human ones, pulled from a timeline right before they die... We already have alternate timeline Lysandre and Rose so really anything goes), maybe with a little story event connected to him.

And that puts him in an interesting position, because he will have to come from either the Scarlet or Violet timeline.... They gave Nemona the Scarlet uniform and most media shows Arven in the Violet uniform, so it could be interesting to have Nemona reference events from a Scarlet timeline (if she comes from post game like most characters seem to do) while Arven is getting confused because "What do you mean my MOM??? I??? Don't even know who she is???"

However it happens, he's basically going to have ANGST with one of the professors while going "And who the fuck are YOU?" to the other.... While BOTH professors will come from "their" timeline where they had him as a son and didn't leave.

Also I hope they give him the "Complicated family" theme skill because it would be darkly hilarious.

(My copium dream is the three of them get a unique theme skill called something like "Paradoxical family" since they literally can't exist as all three together in the same timeline)

I’m curious, what’s your opinion on the Treasures of Ruin from like, a conceptual standpoint? I think they’re the best “Minor” Legends we’ve gotten in a long time.

They're a very interesting concept and over all, the designs I do really like.

Honestly, my only gripe is I wish they were saved for a different game. For me, they are one of the more forgettable new legendaries in Gen 9, which they are a nice surprise, but they're just overshadowed. And eyeing their set up and origins, I feel like an interesting story could've been done with them if they were the focus of a different game.

Can you imagine, you're living in a region that has that dark history, one of few that has more hostile legendaries than the benevolent to neutral most regions have. And these four are sealed away, and you become a trainer to start your journey just like so many others, just as an evil team arises to work at releasing these four. And potentially, you come in way too late. These things are awakened, and released, and the evil barely has control over them but just enough.

And the map you were presented with at the start is being changed by these guys and pokemon are relocating, and what was supposed to be a normal journey is no longer that.

And no one knows what to do, only thing is for sure is for someone strong enough to step up to try and catch these guys and stop the evil team. And while you're not there yet, you are determined.

And potentially, there is a legendary that can reverse the damage done, one tied to restoration. It could be a preexisting legendary or mythical that needs more attention or something new. Finding them could be the key. For preexisting, could maybe be Jirachi, playing off the wish aspect, and they feel like a bit of a forgettable legendary/mythical.

And possibly, post game saves exploring the region as it was before; or it could be that mid game you explored all of this small region, then the rest of the game is exploring the changes to it that the Treasures of Ruin caused.

So, that's what I would want for the Treasures of Ruin. Interesting in concept, but I feel like they're overshadowed and easily forgotten. At least, I can easily forget about their existence. And they're just one of many legendaries/mythicals I feel should get their own game that tells their story and allow them to be the focus point, or saved for something later that they could work off another game's plot better.

Like, take the Swords of Justice, I don't know why they're in Unova as they're not really tied to the plot, BW2 I just remember them just showing up and that's it. But something could've been done with them in XY, and it's story and lore. Like, they could be the servants of Xerneas, protectors of life. And by XY's present time, they started to be aggressive towards humans for reasons unknown (it could be due to Flare or it could be Lumiose City building that plant in the desert, disrupting pokemon habitats). Their aggression could've backed Lysandre's idea that, yeah, humanity is the flaw.

And there could be scripted events where through your journey, they attack you cause you're at the wrong place at the wrong time, and these are events you're not set to win, and they only back off and leave you alive because your pokemon are so determined to defend and protect you. And that loyalty and love just has them keep an eye on you, wondering why your pokemon are so devoted to you. Could even be that young Keldeo comes up as a semi gift pokemon to observe you and see for himself, and after a short bit of time, he understands too.

And you play a role in winning over the Swords of Justice, helping them learn humanity as a whole isn't evil, and work with them to stop Lysandre. And you can get a special moment with Xerneas, thankful that you helped open their knights eyes as Xerneas isn't just the creator of pokemon life, but human life too.

And, idk what yet, but something could be done as a reverse with the dangerous bird trio, they could've been tied to Yveltal. Maybe they're acting out cause their master got taken by Team Flare.

Either way! ToR are one of the legendaries/mythicals I feel could have a story done with them, and potentially should've been saved for a different game that could give them the attention they deserve. They are neat in concept and I do like their designs, but atm they're more forgettable for me.

We ported over most of Scarvio's Academy faculty over and made them professors at the college--fits em pretty well! Hassel is one of the faculty heads of the visual arts department and one of Jaden's main professors while he's still clinging to his Art major (he ends up switching to Undecided later on)...I think they have a good relationship, Hassel kind of helps Jaden come to grips with "you don't need to make art your career if that isn't going to make you happy," which is something that had been stressing him out A Lot.

☕️ A man like himself saw nothing to be jealous or envious over. He had vast wealth, connections, and a social circle that fulfilled him wholly. With you, there was even less reason. He trusted you entirely, too, and truly felt that your relationship was something you both treasured. Yet, the painful feeling seemed to ignite within him when he saw you with an unknown man in the streets of Lumiose. You stood too close to a man dressed in a trench coat tucked away in an alley near his café. Your expression was unreadable due to your position of facing away from Lysandre, but he could see as the man leaned forward. He had enough at the perceived intimacy.

☕️ His strong voice called your name, making you jump. Your wide-eyed expression became apparent as you turned around from the man. Lysandre came to stand at your side with an arm firmly around your shoulders as he stared at the admittedly well-dressed man. He was not an idiot, however. It was obvious the career of the stranger at a glance. Jealousy mixed with a possible betrayal in his heart as you stood in silence. What was going on here? The man politely excused himself from the situation. He made only one last glance at you before he vanished into the busy streets of Lumiose. Lysandre felt mild annoyance and relief at the change.

☕️ “… You know I despise people who take things that aren't theirs,” his hand came to hold your chin, “My love, could you please explain what that was?” While a kiss upon one's cheek could be a platonic greeting, he simply could not shake the feeling of seeing such an exchange in a place away from prying eyes. Had he been too busy as of late? Were you so lonely you took a lover in some detective? His head hurt. The perceived reality crashed against the trust that he held in you.

☕️ “He was whispering something in my ear, Lysandre,” you explained, “It was some madness about your plans needing to be stopped. I had tried to explain that I had no idea what he was talking about when you showed up.” Your hand came to gently try to remove his own from your chin. He relented to your will. Was that detective aware, then? That could be a mess if left alone. The Team Flare Boss would handle it later. “Were you jealous, darling?” you smiled playfully, “Come on, I'd be a fool to even think of another man with a lover like you.”

☕️ He nodded along with your words. Yes, you would be, but Lysandre should have known you were no fool by this point. However, your beauty was something beguiling and unfortunately would draw those with disgusting intentions towards you. They were the dangers, not you. Just as that detective had proven himself. His hands cupped your face instrad as he gazed into your eyes tenderly. “Forgive me, my dear,” he spoke in a softness reserved solely for you, “I allowed myself to be overcome with doubt. I should have known better than that.”

☕️ You leaned into his touch, even resting a hand over his own. The amorous look which you returned to him made him feel even more cruel for the assumption. “It's alright,” you reassured him, “You did end up helping me, after all. I wasn't sure where that interaction was going to go if it kept up.” He leaned down to peck your lips. Perhaps, you needed a guard. People attempting to use you against him was simply a horrifying scenario. Another thing to consider later.

☕️ “And I will always help you if that should be required,” he moved away from the intimate moment to be aware once more that you were still both standing in an alleyway, “My love, let us head into my café. We should talk at once about what baseless claims that detective espoused to you.” Lysandre needed to see what all he knew and settle any possible seeds of doubt it might have sown within you. You nodded and followed at his side as he walked. Jealousy was long forgotten and replaced with worry and concern. The last thing he wanted was another delay in his plans.

💧 Jealousy felt foreign to Archie. It was extremely rare that he even felt that way. Well, so long as it did not involve a certain redhead. Really, the only thing that ever made him feel jealous always seemed to be related to Maxie. Otherwise, he could not think of a time jealousy had really bothered him. That was probably why he instantly felt upset upon seeing you at the market in Slateport with the Magma Leader. His feelings were like a raging sea when he saw Maxie hand you something and you gasp excitedly.

💧 Archie ran over in a obvious fit, scaring both of you. He immediately felt a bit bad at seeing how he upset you but confused by the harsh look the redhead sent his way. Seriously? Maxie went on a date with his partner and has the balls to act upset with him? Before Archie could pick a fight with the other man, the Magma Leader readjusted his glasses and politely bid a farewell to you both. He only gave a second look at you, to which you hid whatever he had given you away from Archie's sight. This only upset him more.

💧 “Luvdisc!” he pouted at you, “Of all people, you'd go with Maxie over me?” You looked horrified at his words. It made him reconsider his accusation again. Would you even do that? It was not like you at all, but it was also weird to see you out with him, too! His brain felt fried. And, really, what gift you given by Maxie? You were clearly hiding it. He crossed his arms. “Ah – sorry,” he corrected himself, “Why are you out with that guy?”

💧 You looked away nervously, clearly unsure how to respond. The item was still hidden from him. You cleared your throat. “I don't think I've ever seen you get jealous before, Archie,” you tried to change the subject. He was not going to let you and attempted to look at what you had, which made you hide it more. What was it? This was really going to bother him. He now felt the jealousy coming back. What if it was some romantic gift?! Chocolates, flowers… maybe even a ring?!

💧 “Don't tell me… Yer actually in love with him?” Archie gasped, “Is that some gift of his undying affection?!” You looked mortified at those accusations. In trying to hide whatever it was, you only drove him deeper into the worries that you were really in some weird affair with Maxie. You felt distressed by his sudden fit of jealousy and the fact he was not going to stop until he knew what the item was. Sighing, you revealed it to him. This uncomfortable back and forth needed to end before it became a scene that attracted onlookers.

💧 Archie gazed at the Sharpedo plush doll in your hands as you frowned at him. “I asked Maxie to help me find you a birthday gift,” you explained, “I know you two are hot and cold. But, he was your best friend at some point, so I figured he'd know best. This was the choice we picked out together.” He gasped and felt his stomach twist. Between accusing you of cheating and ruining a surprise from you, he almost deflated. Scratching the back of his head, he looked away from you in shame.

💧 “I - I see,” he nodded, “Er, I'm sorry for accusing you of cheating.” Archie was not sure how to make it up from here. “When it comes t' stuff involving him, I just don't think straight most of the time,” he admitted. You sighed and let out a weak laugh. What happened, happened, you supposed, and you held out the plush to him as an early gift. He took it meekly. “I'll treasure it,” he promised, “He can hang out on my work desk. No, wait, Matt might want to take 'em then…” You laughed brighter this time at the thought. In the end, you both managed to move past the moment of jealousy.

⭐️ He wanted to claim he was not a jealous man. Volo desperately wished to say feelings of envy did not swirl inside his chest at a variety of things in his day to day. The feeling of jealousy was an unfortunate friend to the blond's lonely existence. He did feel justified in this case, however. The annoying leader of the Diamond Clan had his arm disgustingly wrapped around your shoulders while he let out a laugh. You smiled back at him and leaned slightly into the hug. It was maddening to Volo. He was your lover – him, not Adaman.

⭐️ Putting on his amicable smile, he approached you both. You pulled away from the affection to approach Volo, expression too innocent for the indulgence he had just seen you engaged in. He caught your wrist in his hand as he pulled you into an embrace. Arms locking around your back. Envy still ate at his heart, even with you returning the affection and no matter your surprise at the suddenness of it. His eyes bore into Adaman, who seemed indifferent to the scene before him. He bit his tongue until it drew blood.

⭐️ Soon after the situation, you both bid your farewells to the clan leader and headed back towards a base camp. His hand was tight around your hand as the scene would not leave his mind. It kept eating at his brain enough to cause him to stop in the middle of the marshlands to turn his attention fully to you. His eyes were not the usual ones, filled with a strange curiosity as his hand came to cup your cheek. “Just what were you and Adaman doing earlier?” he asked with a cold tone.

⭐️ You almost wanted to flinch at his behavioural shift. Volo did not quite seem like the friendly man you had come to know. His demeanour seemed almost entirely different; something desperate and feral. His touch was not one with a usual affectionate kind, but something possessive and demanding. You sighed. Was Volo jealous? He did not really strike you as the type. “He was thanking me for battling him,” you explained, “The hug was just him wanting to show his appreciation for saving Hisui.” Volo's suspicious look did not subside.

⭐️ “... Do you really think he wouldn't want more from you?” he tilted his head, “You're a hero to everyone here. Many people would want to court you for the prestige alone.” You grabbed his hand that was on your cheek. Did he think you would just leave him the second another opportunity made itself known? Volo usually seemed so confident in himself. You leaned closer to him and gazed at him lovingly.

⭐️ “And why does that matter when I love you, Volo?” you told him, “I don't want anybody else.” His gaze finally softened at that, appearing to go back to normal from whatever had possessed him. He pressed his forehead against your own and pulled you into a tight embrace. It was nearly suffocating and consuming, but you preferred to him spiralling in jealousy. Seriously, why would you want anyone but him? He arguably was the best bachelor in Hisui, just from his descendant alone.

⭐️ “Good,” he mumbled out, stormy eyes piercing into your own, “I apologise for my odd behaviour. I simply hate the idea of anyone else having what I believe is mine.” You wanted to roll your eyes at his wording. Well, if you were his, then he was yours. Pressing a kiss to his lips, all the tension seemed to fade in the now setting sun. Whatever had come over Volo was gone when you arrived at the base camp, instead replaced with eager chatter about our of the old verses you had found and graciously allowed him to read.

🧪 Jealousy… It was a strange thing for Colress. Not common at all. Mostly because he was too busy with his work to really focus on things like that. Yet, somehow, seeing you on the beach of Alola with that bug-obssessed man made him feel strangely upset. The way you bickered with him in a strange familiarity made his brain surge with odd thoughts. He knew they were untrue, yet for some reason he felt certain that you were interested in the other man. His typing on his keyboard came to a halt when you leaned into his shoulder to laugh.

🧪 His feet carried him over to you both with little thought. You nearly jumped up at the sudden appearance of Colress, his face eerily serious. Your conversation partner, Guzma as he introduced himself, was unsettled by him. The scientist found himself asking endless questions about this white-haired man, and even challenged him to a battle to observe more data for his research. This all culminated in the blond effectively chasing off Guzma and leaving you alone with him.

🧪 You looked at him curiously after he sat beside you on the beach, taking the place of where his apparent rival had been. With Guzma gone, Colress seemed to have finally processed his feelings and felt even more confused by them. You tugged on his blue stand cruelly. “Col, what got into you?” you tilted your head, “I don't think I've ever seen you act like that. You just kept going on and on about your research and were clearly trying to chase him off.”

🧪 Colress took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. Why had he become so jealous? Was it because he had not expected to see you with another man? Or was it the way you leaned into his shoulder and laughed that reminded him too much of your time spent cuddled up with him? He wanted to say he felt embarrassed, but he really did not. Mostly, he was confused and curious about what brought out those emotions. “I was jealous,” he said plainly, “I'm not even sure why I was.” You let out a laugh at his words.

🧪 “Wait, really?” you were honestly a bit amazed, “I thought you only had like… three modes. Research, happy, and, uh, 'playful'.” You were mindful of the children on the beach and monitored your language. Well, there was also hate, but that was only reserved for a certain someone. Otherwise, he mostly was predictable, excluding a few specific circumstances. He chuckled at your words and put his glasses back on.

🧪 “How did you meet him?” he asked curiously, “I know you've been running around Alola while I've been busy with my work, but I hadn't thought you had become close with anybody.” You just shrugged. Guzma was someone you just kept running into when his grunts annoyed you. It eventually became something amicable between you both. Certainly, nothing romantic. Colress just sighed at the end of your explanation. Perfectly normal and expected, honestly. It made his strange fit of jealous feel even more confusing. Your hand came to grasp his gloved one. “How interesting… You've brought forth a new side of me,” he laughed lightly.

🧪 You laughed, too, and leaned against him to watch the Alolan sea in all its grandeur. You both had gone to such a romantic place, and neither of you had done anything all too romantic. “Well, let's make sure you don't have to bring it out again soon,” you looked into his bright yellow eyes, “Why don't we have a date? It's been a while. Maybe that's why you got jealous.” His expression brightened at your words. It seemed that he believed that could be exactly it.

☄️ Jealousy was a rare thing for him to experience, like most feelings. Cyrus believed he had mastered fully suppressing his spirit, yet, somehow, you continually proved him wrong. Why did his heart ache at the sight of you eagerly chatting with that Gym Leader? The blond had your full attention while you sat on the bench that Cyrus was supposed to meet you at. He was unfortunately familiar, too. A reminder of that painful place. It stung even more when you laughed at something Volkner said and his lips twitched into a playful smile at your reaction.

☄️ You, however, noticed Cyrus before he had to disengage and calm himself down. Waving at him, you called out his name with that tone he failed to resist. Volkner even turned his head to gaze at the blue-haired man, a bit stunned to see him again. With his hands locked behind his back, he approached you both. Minor, polite conversation was exchanged with the Gym Leader as he questioned what Cyrus had been up to, but he seemed to catch on as to why you two were meeting up and excused himself away. Cyrus felt his brain surging with unfortunate thoughts.

☄️ After he had gone away, it remained just you and Cyrus in the secluded area of the park. The blue-haired man took a seat beside you and attempted to realign himself. He was not a jealous person. Envy was a useless thing that caused pointless strife. Yet, the thought of you becoming charmed by Volkner and choosing him over Cyrus was disgustingly consuming. The Gym Leader had charms and was someone that caught many people's eyes, he knew well. His grip on his knee became painful as he tried to force the nightmarish scenario from his head.

☄️ Your sudden touch on his shoulder grounded him back in reality. A soft smile was on your lips. The sun captured your beauty perfectly, making his heart ache even more at the thought of losing you. Your kindness and affection were the only things that held him back from fully dedicating himself to his plans. “… Are you jealous?” you asked curiously, “Cy! That's adorable.” He glared at you for your word choice, which only made you laugh. Everything felt a bit lighter after that sound entered his ears. He would never admit that it was jealousy, however.

☄️ “I… I simply was confused as to why he was here…” Cyrus lied, “Amity Square does not seem to be a place that would attract him.” You tilted your head and nodded along with his words. Volkner really did not seem like the type to want to go to a place full of cute pokemon. You moved to lean your head against his shoulder and hold his hand. Cyrus gripped your hand in return. Why did you even choose him? He was someone who was difficult to get along with and clearly unwanted by most.

☄️ “Who cares? I was just chatting with him to pass the time,” you reassured him, “He said he was the Gym Leader of Sunnyshore, so I got curious if he knew you.” His stomach dropped at that. What had he said about him? Had it been about his isolation in his youth, or how his parents had been utterly disappointed with him? Jealousy had been replaced with dread. “He said you always seemed like someone with a lot of potential,” you turn to look at him sweetly, “When I said you were interested in how power was generated, he said he needed you to return to Sunnyshore.” He wanted to grumble at his lie getting even bigger than it already was.

☄️ “Now, Cy,” you pulled him up from the bench as you stood up, “There's no need to be jealous! You're the only one I love. I doubt I'd ever meet anyone like you again, so don't worry about anyone else stealing me away.” Your arms came around him to squeeze him into a tight hug. His cheeks burned with heat at everything you did to him. He brought a single arm around you and patted your back awkwardly. You just laughed again at his hesitance. And with that, his worries were put to rest. Somehow, you did truly only want to be with him.

☀️Maxie🌋

🪨 The Magma Leader would admit he had moments of jealousy. He was no saint above human emotion, but he prided himself on his control of his feelings. Maxie rarely let them cloud his thinking. Rarely, being the key word. However, a certain anchor wearing man seemed to have this effect on him that caused his train of thought to crash hard and explode. Which is why he nearly screamed at the sight of you at the Lilycove department store with Archie. His hand was resting on your back as you both leaned over to look at something. Envy instantly stabbed directly in his heart. Why were you with Archie?!

🪨 A loud 'ahem' from him brought both of your attentions away from whatever you had been looking at and up to him. You gasped while Archie shot him one of those grins that just made his blood boil. His face barely reflected it, but both of you could read him with unfortunate ease. Sensing his upset, Archie quickly gave 'bye' and left you alone to handle the upset redhead. You rose up to your height and smiled as kindly as you could at Maxie.

🪨 “May I ask just what you were doing with Archie, of all people?” he questioned with a cocked brow, “I hope you know that he and I are rivals. I thought it was fairly obvious.” His scrunched his face up as you scratched your head. If you were going to have an affair with anyone, did it have to be him? He would have preferred it being Tabitha or that rock-loving champion to Archie. You looked completely guilty, too! Frustration was boiling inside him.

🪨 “… Maxie,” you finally replied, using a soft tone, “I was just… looking for something, and I asked Archie for help.” He felt ready to erupt. His hand came to rub his eyes while pushing his glasses up. Your phrasing was not easing any of his concerns that you had decided to run off with the Aqua Leader. You nervously looked away from him. Maxie felt strangely vulnerable and hurt by that idea. Archie was not an unattractive man, nor was he without his charisma. It would not be the first time someone chose Archie over him, and he was certain it would not be the last.

🪨 “… Fine,” he felt too hurt, “I understand if you want to be with Archie, but at least end your relationship with me first.” Your shocked expression got him off guard as he gazed at you. Instantly, you were close to him and holding his hand tightly in your own. You shook your head at his words. Was that not it? Then, why on earth were you here with him in such a position. He did feel the urge to hear you out with how hurt you looked by his accusation.

🪨 “That's not it,” you shook your head again, “I asked him to help find a gift for you… I asked Tabitha but he was not sure, and I didn't think Courtney would want to help me. The only person I could think of was him…” Maxie looked at you suspiciously. A gift… for him? His birthday was coming up. He suddenly felt a bit mortified himself. Gazing at the shelf finally, he saw Numel themed merchandise on it. Oh, no. You were not lying. Archie's hand on you made sense with how touchy he was. His face dropped. The situation had been completely misunderstood by him.

🪨 “M-my dear,” he awkwardly shifted to grip your hand back, “I apologise. I shouldn't have made such a callous accusation… especially while you were doing something so nice for me.” Archie had unfortunately led you right, too. It appeared you were both looking at a large Numel plush before he had interrupted. His cheeks were nearly the same colour as his uniform. “… Doubly so for ruining your surprise,” he wanted to give himself extra paperwork as a punishment for this. You seemed at ease, happy that he had stopped thinking you were cheating on him. The both of you agreed to put the moment behind you, thankfully.

It's a good thing the whole Team Rainbow Rocket thing happened before gen 8 because trying to picture any of the Yell grunts meeting with any of the other evil teams is hilarious. @pidgeonpostal said they'd probably bring snacks to the evil team meetings and I know in my heart it would go something like

Giovanni: [looks at the snacks] [looks at Team Yell with perfect, dripping disdain] [Yell is completely oblivious and eats all the snacks themselves]

Archie: Cool Ranch? Bwahaha! You simps got taste! [cheerfully grabs fistfuls as he talks]

Maxie: [sneering disgust and contempt, mostly at Archie] I believe we have... other matters to attend to. [wincing in agony every time greasy cheese-dust-covered hands touch his files]

Cyrus: [empty stare. Decides to pretend it doesn't exist] [contents himself by imagining the world in which these idiots don't exist, either]

Ghetsis: Bah! [smacks it off the table. One of the Yell grunts goes ":< mah sherbet" and dives to catch it] This is what you're trying to convince me I should ally myself with? Fools! This insolence has no place in Team Plasma! [Grunt: But we're not in Team Plasma.] No. Which is why you need... a firmer hand. [tries to indoctrinate them with cult tactics. Yell is just happy to be included for a bit before they walk away, cartoonishly unaffected as Ghetsis throws a stomping tantrum. N just isn't as cute as Marnie.]

Lysandre: This is what you offer for your companionship? I see. [turns around, folds hands behind back] There are those who deserve their positions, who merit the power they command, and those who do not. Who beg and swindle every meter of it, and then delight in the ill-gotten gains. I see now where you fall in this matter. [Grunt: Yeah, we brought the crisps!] ...Indeed. I believe we're done here.

Lusamine: [waving off their chatter like a disaffected mom] Yes, yes, that's very interesting. Now, I believe we can come to a bargain that should appease both of us. How would you like to do a very important job for me and investigate this Mantine Racing spot? [Yell: Whoa, foreign sport? D'you think Marnie'd like it? (everyone pictures Marnie in a swimsuit and experiences various degrees of nosebleed and/or cute aggression)] [Guzma: Hey, you're cheating on my boys with These idiots??]

Star: [Ugh, sports people. ...The snacks are nice, though.] (Penny probably gets into a surprisingly insightful discussion about idol culture)

Quick Chat about Lysandre

Or really, a long winded chat about my coming to understand him.

I've decided to buy and play XY in anticipation of Legends ZA arriving sometime next year. My initial reaction to the Team Flare Boss, was 'what is this idiot talking about. i'm going to strangle him.' I still am going to strangle him, but at least now I do get where he's coming from.

Also, keep in mind I played pokemon X, not Y, so I live in the universe where Lysandre's goal isn't to cull the population.

Before I get into Lysandre as a character, I have to discuss Pokemon XY in the general way it pinches out information, and dialogue for the player to grasp the plot. I'm very late to the party, since I have played this years after it came out, but I'm positive I'm not alone in saying the game is awkward.

Pokemon XY, feels like it had a plot too involved for the format it was delivered in. It's, in my humble opinion, a clunky transitional game. From the traditional format of main generation games, and into the more robust pokemon games of the future. I'm also aware that the development was rushed, which adds to the disconnect I felt between mechanics, characters, and plot. That being said, I still enjoyed it! [ And I'm happy we're going to get a chance to revisit it on a grander scale]. Talking again about the awkwardness of the game, I think I didn't understand Lysandre's issue, because there wasn't enough dialogue or supporting context for me to really grasp what he was talking about. I made sure to talk to everyone I could, every manner of key character and NPC. But I couldn't sense the desperation he was feeling in the slightest.

You play the game as a child [which annoys me now as an adult but I digress lol] , so everyone you interact with talks to you like one. I've always considered the world of Pokemon somewhat utopian...but that's what it is, somewhat utopian. I think it feels that way, simply because you roleplay as a kid in an era of peace. The world is beautiful, the towns are jolly, there are a few ruffians here and there, some people are at a disadvantage [ like Emma] , but what is there to worry about? Everything right now is just fine. Why are you trying to ruin it?

I decided to look into some of the supplemental items for Pokemon XY, and was met with this in the Pokemon Evolutions shorts.

This scene...was all it took for things to finally click.

A room full of stuffy executives, huh? They're his own board, but I'm sure he's sat down at many tables over the years with equally stuffy suited people.

Running in the background of this make believe world, are things that resemble more of reality. I was immediately reminded, that often times, the fate of millions of people rest in the hands of a few. Lysandre is a well known philanthropist with a genuine love for the world he lives in. People and pokemon. I'm going to make the assumption, when Lysandre talks about those who 'take' being filth, he's not just talking about a couple of subway ruffians snatching pokeballs out of a tourist's purse. I assume, he's talking about other powerful people. Probably companies and government.

As his bloodline would dictate, Lysandre is a modern day king, who has the high vantage point of being able to see destruction on the horizon. Chances are, he's met the kind of wealthy, powerful people who 'take' on a grand scale. Something else to note, is that Lysandre's company has created something capable of eavesdropping on millions of people. He probably has even more access to information that the public, and certainly not a child, would have. I'm in a way, happy that I'm playing the game now as an adult, so that I can process all these implications.

AZ, made his choice in the middle of war. The conflict was all immediate, and plain to see. Something was taken from him that was too great to bear.

I wonder...what did Lysandre see specifically, that told him the world was on a path to similar destruction. What does he know that urged him to 'kill the demon before it could be born', so to speak. Or, nip it in the bud? That's a more on theme phrase, ain't it...

I have this same question.

Here's a screen clip from the Wiki page for "Floette Returns". It summarizes what happens in the Pokemon Adventures manga. While this isn't considered canon to the game, I found this interesting, and it supports my assessment of Lysandre well. I think the manga is allowed to go into topics that the games aren't always able to explicitly discuss.

"As the group watches AZ depart, Trevor guesses that Lysandre must have lost himself in despair after years of philanthropy in a bid to help the disadvantaged, and his bitterness led him to founding Team Flare in the first place."

So okay, Lysandre. I understand where you're coming from. But, I don't think destroying everything is the answer.

Seriously, who was he talking to that made him raise those hackles so high? My last thought, is that I find him incredibly interesting, now that I understand. I do think he's entitled, though, and a brat. In the same way I think N can be a bit entitled to fixing the worlds 'problems'. But that's probably a symptom of how they're both raised.

That's all I have for now. I'll discuss AZ in the future. I have a lot to say about him, too.

Hilda and Hilbert are twins and attended BB Academy before officially going on their journey (they broke off around Nimbasa,Hilda traveled with Iris while Hilbert remained with Bianca and Cheren)

Hilda is one of the co-founders of Driftveil's PWT since she convinced Clay to fund the project to draw in more people to bolster Unova's economy (Draydon,Alder and Grimsly are also co-founders)

Hilbert runs the PokeMusical building in Nimbasa along with historical preservation efforts in the city (ie the Ferris Wheel and the old gym)

Caitlin swaps between fairy and psychic on a bi-yearly basis along with Shauntal having a partial specialty in ground

Alder became champion on complete accident and when Iris took the title he went back to Floccesy Town to become a full-time teacher since that is his passion outside of battling (Benga got his Larvesta from him on his 7th birthday as an egg)

Unova is the 2nd oldest league with the oldest being Kalos (Kalos' was originally founded as an annual festival in celebration of the war against Paldea ending,Paldea holds a similar festival which lines up with Uva-Naranja graduations)

Central and Northern Sinnoh is very cold year around which extends to nearly the whole region in the Winter aside from Sunnyshore and Canalave which are actually quite warm

As lax as Hoenn seems it's actually one of the more volatile regions to travel to,the populace compensates for that by making the towns and cities as inviting as possible (ie Slateport's massive seaside market,Lilycove's regular hosting of national Contest Finals,ect) along with having a shockingly high happiness rate

Kalos has a charming tradition of all their fairy specialists taking up a partial dark type and vice versa with it originating from how deeply the region cherishes Xerneas and Yvetal (dragon specialists in the region also usually end up having either a dark type or a fairy type on their team)

Johto funnily enough is still mostly rural despite having the strongest economy on the continent (Goldenrod is a major hub)

And now for some not so world building blurbs

Nobody actually knows where Brock came from and the only thing really known about him is that he is loosely related to Bruno (the Pewter Mining Company adopted him when he was a toddler since he didn't have any parents,turns out he's from Orre and has family in Alola)

I've actually been toying around with the idea of giving Steven an older brother who never became a trainer and instead is a member of the Hoennian Navy (the Navy is actually quite small and mainly functions as a much more well funded coastguard along with reporting to the Ranger Corps),he would be 6 years older than Steven and would take over Devon after their father gets ousted since Steven wants nothing to do with any of them anymore (still trying to come up with a name for him and leaning towards Silas or Abram,he's much more on the stern side with a serious nature and rarely ever smiles)

N and Ghetsis are fully related (reading through the Underwater Ruin's text again with the story of the king gave me an idea what to do with N's character),N is the one who inherited the King's Blood whereas Ghetsis didn't,it was Ghetsis who wiped out his bloodline (N was an infant,the pokemon who raised him belonged to his Mother and Father and the Zorua having hatched around the same time that he was born),N is 19 at the time of Unova Arc

Sycamore and Lysandre aren't officially together but they do flirt with each other on occasion with the professor bringing him his favorite strawberry macarons and Lysandre taking Sycamore out to dinner in Annistar during the meteor showers

The Eternal Flower Files - Flowers of the Fleur de Lys

Eternal Flower Floette is likely inspired by the fleur de lys, an ancient trinity symbol used by French heraldry and Christianity.  The story goes that the first King of France, King Clovis, adopted the fleur de lys as the symbol of France after he was given a lily by the Virgin Mary during his baptism.  King AZ inherited Eternal Flower Floette from his late mother. 

The fleur de lys is where Lysandre, the descendant of King AZ's brother, gets his name. In fact, lots of prominent Pokemon characters get their names from flowers associated with the fleur de lys, as we'll see.

"fleur de lys" means "flower of the lily", and yet the flower it actually depicts is surprisingly more subjective.  Let's look at four flowers connected to the fleur de lys: the iris, the lily, the gladiolus, and the red trillium.

The Iris

The iris is the national flower of France.  Despite being called the fleur de lys, the symbol is widely agreed to be an iris for a few reasons. Visually, the shape of the fleur de lys is the biggest evidence. Like the iris, the fleur de lys has three upright petals, or "standards" and three hanging petals called "falls".

Irises have a wide range of meanings depending on the color, but there are no natural red irises like the Eternal Flower.  Irises like the Apostle Iris, Copper Iris, or Japanese Iris all resemble the Eternal Flower.  In Ancient Greece, irises were planted at graves (and are still used as funeral flowers) to signal Iris, the goddess of light and rainbows to guide them into the afterlife.  This symbol of "light" comes up a lot in Fleur de lys symbolism.

Did you know that not only does Champion Iris get her name from the flower, but also her counterpart Drayden, and his Blueberry Academy son Drayton?

The Lily

The Eternal Flower looks a lot like the Asiatic Red Lily, or more specifically the Asiatic "Blackout Lily".

Lilies are one of the oldest cultivated flowers, so their name and symbolism has spread to many similar flowers over time. Lilies are incredibly important to Christianity. It is said that liles sprung from the tears of Eve as she left the Garden of Eden. Lilies are used to represent a lot of elements in Christianity, but mostly the Holy Trinity and the Virgin Mary.  In a sense they are a trinity symbol themselves, symbolizing light and rebirth, tying into that familiar theme of "life, death, and rebirth".

Both lilies and irises flowers represent light in different ways.  While Iris is the Greek goddess of light, the lily represents light in Christianity, and an archaic name for the Fleur de lys and the lily is "fleur de luce" or Flower of Light.  These light symbols are likely where Eternal Flower Floette gets her "Light of Ruin" attack from.  The attack has an connotation of authority and power, which is not surprising given the connection between "light" and many authoritative, ocassionally wrathful gods associated with light like the Abrahamic god, Zeus, and the Egyptian Goddess Isis.

This light symbolism might point to Eternal Flower Floette being the "lambda Pokemon" in the logo for Legends: Z-A.  The symbol has a leafy pattern at the bottom reminiscent of flowers.

 (L)ambda is used as a constant for (L)ight wavelengths.   Floette in general use light and wavelengths to share power with flowers, but clearly the Eternal Flower has exceptional power of its own  Maybe the "ominous power", the light within the Eternal Flower allowing Floette to use "Light of Ruin" - is Infinity Energy. 

The Gladiolus

The Gladiolus is in the iris family, but it has the nickname "Sword Lily" for its long pointy stalks.  I think the Sword Lily inspires the black spikes on the ends of the larger petals on the Eternal Flower.  The Sword Lily is said to symbolize the Virgin Mary in Our Lady of Sorrows, represented with swords piercing her body.  This reminds me of the black spikes on the Eternal Flower, which look like they're piercing the bloodred petals..

And yes, the Aether kids Gladius and Lillie get their names from the Gladiolus and Lily!  Notice that the Arceus crest on Type: Null's helmet makes it look like it has swords locking the helmet to its head.  Of course, that's a larger discussion about Arceus and light/god imagery, but there are so many important Pokemon characters named after lilies and irises that it's hard to ignore that GameFreak was paying special attention to them.

The Trillium

The Red Trillium most likely inspired the Eternal Flower - so you may be wondering why I saved it for last.  Unlike the ancient European history of the lily and iris, the Trillium was found in North America by European settlers.  I say "found" and not "discovered" because Native Americans already used it medicinally.  Since then, this relative of the lily has inherited a lot of European lily symbolism. 

The symbolism of the Trillium seems to be a mixture of these two traditions.  Native Americans used Trillium, also known as birthroot, as a female medicine for menstrual disorders, childbirth, and menopause.  Midwifes would wear a trillium as a symbol of their work. (Source: Get to Know Trilliums - The Midwife's Medicine)  It also has an antiseptic property, and was used to stop bleeding.  This is where the trillium gets its symbolism of the divine female, blood, birth, and recovery.

Floette is a female only species, and notably Eternal Flower Floette seems to be connected to a lot of symbols of femininity, like the Virgin Mary, the Greek Goddess Iris, and the Triple Goddess associated with the triquetra.

Trillium is also called the wood lily, western lily, and the three-parted lily.  In fact, the European symbolism of the lily isn't too different when you get down to it - it's associated with a mother figure, it symbolizes life, death, and rebirth, and both flowers are used to symbolize the Holy Trinity. Today the Trillium can be associated with a lot of these European trinity symbols like the Fleur de lys and the triquetra, because everything about it is triplicate.  Three petals, three sepals, even the leaves grow in threes.

Like AZ's Floette, the trillium is a deceptively delicate flower that will disappear if you take advantage of it.  Picking a trillium flower might endanger the plant's life.  Eternal Flower Floette's story is a tragedy of a beautiful life exploited for war.  First she was kidnapped and died being used as a weapon, and then after AZ resurrected her, she left him after witnessing him kill thousands in her name. 

But if there's one thread that bonds these flowers together, it's the theme of rebirth.  After 3,000 years, Eternal Flower Floette returned to AZ.  While flowers wilt and die, they come back and blossom again in the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.  I think it's incredibly likely that we too will be reunited with Eternal Flower Floette in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
