Per Eriksson Live Summary - August 26, 2024.

This one was quite long! There's a few funny stories in there and he revealed a lot.

Per introduces the live as a "cult meeting."

He's still in Sweden.

Black River Kult specific updates:

Production issues with hoodies have been solved. Patches are delayed. Orders should be shipped out this week.

They're not going to do another drop until orders are sent out. Guitar picks will not be restocked. The Baphomet shirt will not be restocked.

Someone asked him for hair care tips and he joked that he needs hair care tips for thin, greying hair. He still wears nipple piercings (someone asked).

He has reiterated replicas are being made of his necklace in silver. They will not be cheap and they will be limited. There will be a waiting list. They'll probably cost over $200.

They might do leggings in the future.

He says Kult memberships are at capacity, so you can't officially join via the website until they make them available again.

Someone asked him if he can get them made with pockets, and he said he'd consider it. He's not really sure how they work.

He saved the live, but he said saving the live was contingent on him not saying something insulting or saying something stupid.

He said he's managed to piss people off in the past, which was not his intention at all. Direct quotes:

"I don't mean to insult people, but sometimes you insult people by mistake and sometimes you say something in passing that maybe people can take the wrong way."

"I get enough hate as it is, and if I say something stupid I just get more hate and that's - I don't need it."

Someone joked in the chat that they're his wife, and Per had to correct confusion in the chat saying this is what happens - people take passing comments out of context and believe them. He's not married.

Zero and Demon (his dogs) are at the Temple of the Black River (their house) where they work as high priests. Zero's full name is John Zero Costello.

He loves Iron Maidan. He grew up on them.

He's very excited about the Silent Hill 2 remake and might want to stream it on Twitch. It's his favorite game of all time. He loves Resident Evil, too.

He doesn't regret his back tattoo, but it was painful and expensive. His chest tattoo is his first tattoo.

He would love to learn how to play piano.

He's been to Greece many times and he loves it. He's also loved Turkey. He's a big fan of the Netherlands, too.

Someone asked him what Sound the Dread Alarm comes from. (It's from a Tool song) He showed off his Tool tattoos. (💜💜💜)

Someone asked if he was straight again. He is. They asked him if he was sure, and he said he's pretty sure. He would've known by now.

He said he's played guitar for 35 years but he's "still pretty sucky at it."

Someone asked him to show his hands and he immediately asked "why?" He was asked about his pinky. When he was 4, someone slammed a door on his finger by accident. The tip of his finger was hanging off. They tried to attach it, but it died. They had to amputate his finger.

The nail is still growing (this is common in finger amputees. It's called a hook nail.) He likes his "claw" - he thinks it's badass. He uses a nail clipper for dogs on it. He uses his nail to drum on glass cups. The only issue he has with it is that when the nail grows out, it catches on his guitar. (Yes, we know! Remember when it bled all over his guitar?)

He uses Tula skincare products (Per in his Beauty Influencer era) He said he walked into Sephora and walked up to the most good looking man in the store and asked him what he should use and Tula was what he used so he's been using it ever since. (It is a good brand, but omg 😂 Good for him for being man enough to ask)

He says some people ask him weird things in the chat.

He says he doesn't wear gold for religious reasons.

He does love Lady Gaga. Great singer. Extremely talented. (Aries folks always hype up Aries folks. 😛) He could not name a single Taylor Swift song.

He wishes he could be a vegan, but his diet is so poor that he will probably die if he cuts out meat entirely.

He's not a fan of "modern bands" like Falling in Reverse. He doesn't really understand them. (Not trying to insult these bands, just not his thing.)

He says people are obsessed with his height (and his hair). He's not very tall for Sweden. He's shorter than most of his friends. He says "who cares." He has no issue with his height.

He stopped smoking cigarettes, and he quit snus. (Snus is more common in Scandinavia). He did it cold turkey. He quit drinking ~12 years ago, with minimal slips back in between years. When asked about weed, he pretended not to know what that was lol.

He says he may be allergic to alcohol. It makes him very sick.

There's a famous picture of him on the floor and people think he was hammered. It's not true. He had pneumonia. (If you look at the blog post where the image originates, Per talks about being horribly ill. He was still smoking cigarettes, and there's an ash tray on the floor in that picture. Not a glass. He calls himself a fucking idiot for doing that while he has full blown pneumonia.)

He was asked about the picture of him standing with a comically large book. He was on tour with Opeth at the time. He doesn't remember what the book was about.

He learned to be a guitar tech along the way. He's a handy person and he studied as an electrician in school.

Stygian pisses me off. Along people like her who say wishy washy stuff like "at most he probably thought she attractive he not blind, probably has fleeting feelings but those are bland compared to his feelings for tifa" where? Where are those?! Some talk about bro code but even before the whole Zack thing, he's already so mean in costa del sol. He's already Disgusted at the idea of a "couple gondola event". He's already mean in Remake even after that Cursed resolution. In fact it was after the whole Zack bit that he started trying to be kinder and more tolerating. It's No bro code, that concept was Never a thing he thought of. Do you know what he thought of? He DIDN'T think "oh zack gf, i should back away" , rather it was "oh zack gf, I should be more kinder because everything Zack cares about I care about as well". I bet he was super guilty and saddened about not remembering Zack and not telling his parents what's up. He Loves Zack third to Tifa and Claudia. aerith isn't even close enough to the list, heck he was more cool with barret and yuffie. He hit it off with yuffie so easily and they just met!, she can even understand his perverted tendencies about Tifa. Something not all of them see. Actually it might just be her who knows lol.

Anyway, these Statements Don't hold up and will contradict because it's Not canon. I just don't understand how they see these things that Never existed? Did they play the game? Did we play the same game? I don't understand why even entertain this? Do they Not understand the material given to them? Why are they even here? There is so much about FF7, and "ltd" Doesn't even exist. It's all in their head that Only loves to argue but stray away from canon and factual evidences.

Every time i hear them talk about him and his pov about aerith, it just makes me get turned off of him and want to Never support ct. Heck, I'd be the #1 to fight against it. I'm starting to wonder if they even like tifa, cloud or even this IP. Nojima didn't write him this way for them to downgrade and water down his character and his story and feelings about tifa.

This guy NEVER wavered. And while I think aerith was only saying what she said in her resolution as a sign she Never understood him at all (creepy date was Very Clear he Doesn't see Nor will ever see her that way, yet she missed this lol) and was indeed only talking to herself. All these so called "attraction/ fleeting feelings" some think AREN'T REAL, IT'S NEVER THERE. It's all in your imagination and you have to ask if they even enjoy FF7, tifa, cloud and ct to begin with. Or do they wanna hop onto c /a's train that if zack and tifa didn't exist this that wtvr despite Nojima writing about how these characters are Totally Incompatible in ALL levels.

Srry for the rant. I'm just so Sick of this wishy washy attitude. I think FF7 fans are so lucky to have so much material to fight against these but some ignore them. If this was a real debate, they've lost immediately. You deal with evidence and canon as support. Not use essays, what ifs , and half assed assertions such as those. It just sounds like they're afraid of being wrong. But foolishly they already are. Credibility goes down Immediately.

I understand that frustration when clotis make Aerith apologist comments that encourage dumbasses because they'll use it as a talking point to say "even clotis think Cloud was attracted to her!!!!" which is why I take myself away from those kinds of discussions because it's bullshit and I don't wanna argue with moots.

Before we had the material ulti plus scene showing that Cloud literally didn't recognise Aerith in her red dress a lot of us went "well he's male and she's dressed up 🤷" but then we got the scenario and the script that showed he literally didn't know it was even her and he was just surprised some random woman is walking towards him with a red carpet being rolled out and shit.

And then with the swimsuits, he isn't even looking at Aerith. He glances at her face then immediately checks out Tifa and we get that in the first person pov, so we see exactly where he's looking. Then he gets all shy and stammers, and they flirt. But, even when Aerith also matches he doesn't reply to her saying she needs help with the sunscreen, so he avoids her flirtation. He also constantly shows and tells her that he isn't happy with her yanking him around and calling everything a date.

So, given the literal evidence, no cloti should still be going around saying he finds her attractive. He clearly doesn't.

And idky we must have Cloud seeing her as attractive or being attracted just because she's a woman. She ain't pretty. That's not just me saying it. That's literally what we've been told throughout the games. She was called homely in wall market, Zack said she's only pretty from certain angles, nobody compliments her looks or style, and yet we're supposed to believe that the man who is panting after Tifa Lockhart, who is literally described as a bombshell, would also find someone subpar attractive and be interested in that because he's a man.

That's a pretty shitty way to view Cloud.

Okay but I wouldn't purely blame LMK for the flanderization of Tripitaka. All the flanderized depictions in fan works I've seen are from people who actually read the book and made fan art of the original source. And both versions of Trip develop into better people, anyways. Also, it's a little hurtful to say that most people don't analyze what they read, no? Granted, it's a kids show so much of the fanbase are minors, but like...kids will be kids.

this is just one of many, and you couldnt go anywhere online without seeing somebody make this kind of joke. schools dont even really teach deep analysis of literature recently (i should know, ive been in multiple english lit classes and most of them don't dive as deep as you could and should. the only one that does that is with my most recent professor), and this stuff happens in highschool. yknow, during students most formative years of learnin stuff.

kids shouldnt just get a free pass on choosing to ignore the main point of a piece of literature because "kids will be kids". literature is the backbone of critical thinking, most people develop that skill through reading, and stories have a greater purpose, especially classical ones, than just "heres a show that provides constant stimulation with no reason".

i probably sound a little crazy or something, and im not articulating this as well as i could due to me taking *checks notes* two melatonin like 30 minutes ago BUT anyway tldr for that section is that a lot of people just dont dive deep into literature and its true meaning. a lot of folks like only looking at the surface level bits because its so much easier and simplier than writing an 1000 word essay about the importance of a certain theme within a piece of classical literature or something

the thing i explained above i think is one of the sources as to tripitaka, and sun wukong's, flanderization within the monkie kid fandom. instead of looking at the characters with the original intent of the religious text, its looked at as more of a "well he did X so he's a bad person". its too literal for a religious allegory. trying to apply strict "real world black & white morals" onto characters like this just wont work and will end with every character from the original jttw with the label of "bad person".

i could go onto a whole rant about how the recent decline of deep analysis of literature is the reason so many people seem to prefer "childrens cartoons" (because of the easier to understand morality/lessons) over, say, classical work or hell even some modern classics. this isnt an insult towards ppl that like "kids cartoons" btw, like look at my whole blog its just about cartoons LOL . i think theres more than just that one reason as to why people, at least online, gravitate towards childrens cartoons (likely because theyre more fantastical rather than trying to cater towards "adult gritty realism" and are animated, which is hard to find nowadays with all this "live action remake" junk), but i do think its one reason.

I bought Story of Seasons: A wonderful Life for the Nintendo switch which is a remake of the 2003 harvest moon a wonderful life.

I’ve bought other harvest moon/story of seasons games for the switch as well and honestly… I’m disappointed.

The character design lacks, they all look so dead and emotionless I don’t know how to explain it. The whole world looks like it’s straight out of Cocomelon. You also start with a gifted Cow and other things, that you’d normally not get in the originals and tbh it feels like they stripped all life away in all the newer versions, made it way easier in the beginning and tried to up the cuteness to a maximum which resulted in it looking like a kids show. The dialogs also turned so soft imo.

In harvest moon ds you straight up start with the mayor of mineral town insulting you and then the character (you) proceeding to try to kill him/punch him with an axe, a hammer, a scythe, even a watering can and in the end your dog bites him in the ass in a blackout screen.

It’s like how they took the sass out of the animal crossing characters with time and it just makes me sad. The new versions of the characters feel like lifeless copies :/

I‘m still hoping for more remakes and I’m still a big fan of the harvest moon/story of seasons franchise. But fields of Mistria honestly gave me the exact feeling I had when I got harvest moon ds on Christmas as a kid and started it up for the first time. I literally had a bit of a teary eye playing the demo and then the EA version of FoM 🥺

That’s also why I like FoM so much - it’s funny, it has innuendos, it’s made for adults/older teens despite it being cutely designed, the characters look and feel like they’re adults as well.

I‘m not trying to be mean to the newer games and I understand people enjoy playing them, hell I still buy them because I love the series, but they leave me hanging. ://

YESSSS I get it OMG it's so boring I have about 100 hours in PoOT (pioneers of olive town) and although I controversially found Harvest Moon One World better than Olive Town (I loved the open world concept and Jamil in particular), it was still kinda boring compared Stardew Valley which I bought as my first game for my switch back in 2019.

That day, I played SDV until 4 am, it was summer break and I just graduated highschool and it was magical playing SDV for the first time, I could barely put the game down for long enough to take care of myself lol.

And I get that exact same feeling again playing FoM, that kind of magical feeling where you're completly transported into a new world. I don't think ConcernedApe made SDV with children as a primary audience in mind, if he did he probably wouldn't have added depressed alocholic in there and I love it, I love a good story and good characters, inperfect characters with flaws, they feel way more real and more likable than the boring nice, polite ones we were getting in newer HM/SoS games. All I remember from PoOT is how claustrophobic the town feels, and how hard it was to decide who to marry because none of them was interesting enough, even Damon, the edgy biker boy, felt like he was taken straight from the Disney Channel. I want characters that I can call bastards, I want mean characters, they're the funniest to learn to love.

As for making the games way too easy, I'm not sure, I just remeber struggeling in older games but mostly because I was a child when I played them. I'm pretty sure you also could get a free cow in Animal Parade and in the tale of two towns but I could very well be wrong.

I'm not gonna lie, I never played Harvest Moon DS but that sounds hilarious, we need more of that back, and less Ned Flenders neighbors. That's another reason why I love SDV so much, Pam and Shane are so mean to the player at first (hell even Sebastian is kinda cold) but that's what makes them more compelling characters than the cast of PoOT, where frankly only the non-marriagable characters were interesting.

I think that's why I'm so obsessed with FoM right now, while yes the characters are so so nice, they're not boring and I don't even remember them by their niceness, Hayden is a super polite farmer, but I'd say his distinct traits are loud, open and so very passionate wbout farming, even his dialogue about being a good neighbor and lending you sugar is so much more memorable because he's so forward about it. I feel like most characters in this game can be described with a positive and a negative trait, which is what newer HM/SOS games lack, the balance between baby boy baby and bastard. And the dialogue in general is soooo good, I don't feel like I'm being talk down to, it feels like a normal conversation between adults, not between a child and their caretaker.

Laslty, thank god (NPC Studio) for the older characters, I feel like farming game fans are not in their teens (13-15) and more like in their twenties and up. We don't want to romace teens, we want something that doesn't feel illegal lol.

I totally agree anon, I love FoM so far and it has also made me super emotional playing this game. Ugh I can't wait for more content, I need to fall for this game harder.

I honestly wanna ask so much, like about the sirens of your world in general, Scar & BigB's backstory, if there's a reason the current name is sweethearts siren au, are Jimmy & Grian like on a vacation or have moved here permanently, how you plan to share/tell the story... I didn't want to seem overwhelming or weird tho so I've been trying to figure out just about all day, which question I should ask first and how I should word it. I still haven't quite decided (tho I was leaning towards asking more about the sirens) but that's because I didn't want to step on your toes if you were already planning out some posts.(which is why I said whenever you're ready to share) And I hope admitting this doesn't make me seem weird or overly excited... I just want to be honest tbh lol.

anon i love you sooooo much thank you for asking so many lovely things about my au :D Please never be worried about being too enthusiastic or asking too many questions, this is genuinely so fun for me and I love being able to talk about and think about this au in depth (under cut since there is a lot!!)

Ok so you wanted to know more about sirens? I have 600 words of worldbuilding on this so I'll try to condense it a little? Sirens are pretty neat, again I did kind of remake them as a species to better fit this au but a lot of the basics still stand. They aren't strictly romantic seduction, and leans more heavily into just really strong compulsion of any variety, though that still is a thing (i just don't plan on implementing it much). The specific aspect of luring people to their death also isn't a strict necessity, but definitely still common (and I do want to incorporate this into the au). Sirens can have any fishtail, but it does matter on their location/habitat. Scar's a lionfish, and I haven't quite decided on B yet but it's going to probably be a blue one. Either type of ear (the pointed ones or the webbed ones) are pretty much random, but both have scales on the face. The main thing that distincts sirens from any other merfolk (in terms of physical appearance) are the hands, much more clawed and very scaley. I liked the idea of jewlery being very ingrained and important in siren culture, so that's why you'll see a lot of necklaces and earrings andstuff on both my Scar and B designs (though noticeably a lot more on B, no real reason for that quite yet). Sirens also have much longer lifespans than humans, and thus it's a bit hard for some to understand the idea of mortality when it comes to the killing aspect. Still, some sirens don't like the general idea of control and/or murder and choose to live as regular merfolk, but that's really tough to do as sirens aren't trusted by pretty much anyone who isn't a siren. Their voices don't work on other sirens but do work all other animals, though it does still impact relationships amongst sirens (as can be seen in B and Scar). Siren voices are pretty cool! They develop throughout childhood, starting with none (using the term 'voice' to refer to their ability to control btw, probably should have established that sooner) and slowly turning small persuasions into full control. Not super well documented in-universe due to nobody but sirens hanging out with them, especially in youth. Practice is also necessary to get 'good' at using one's voice. As in, those who use it frequently can fade into it near seamlessly without letting on that they're using it until it's in full effect and can easily start using it most of the time. For those who aren't as accustomed to it (either from deliberate lack of use or inexperience in general), using the voice can be much more noticeable, with a very noticeable shift in tone and volume. It's also much more difficult to start, requiring a lot more concentration and effort. Much like learning to use a new muscle, i'd imagine. Moments of stress, high pressure, or other extreme emotions or factors hinder both skill levels, and can even be worse on those with experience as it might be their only way out of a very tense situation. That's most of my siren worldbuilding? As time goes on and this hopefully expands more there will probably be a lot more to add.

The reason for sweethearts siren au is simply because that's my personal duo name for Grian and B (It's really cute I think, with 'sweet' coming from grain/breads and b's affinity with cookies, and hearts coming from the heart Grian built in double life and their general connection to the life series. And because it sounds adorable and they are sweethearts, /p or /r) and they're kind of the 'main duo' as far as I've thought? As in, I have the most complex interactions and dynamics that i've laid out for them thus far and they're the most developed so far. Also, I don't have a duo name that I like/know for any of the other characters and especially not specifically these 4, and i'm not clever enough to come up with one just yet. So, sweethearts siren AU for the time being. Grian and Jim are here as fishmongers just to make a living, pretty much? This au was created around when I first got *super* into stardew and especially the fishing mechanism (I maxxed out the fishing skill while at 0 for pretty much everything else), so I really wanted to just put some of my favorite guys into a fish situation. Aged pretty well, I'd say, with Grian's recent obsession with fishing. But yeah, just fishermen and/or small farmers on the side (the stardew leaking into this again) trying to make a living in a coastal area until they discover The Sirens. I will say, the one thing that I do have down very solidly is Grian and Jim's absolute oblivion to the presence of sirens at this specific ocean/town, and Jimmy being the first one to interact directly with them (specifically, Scar). I don't really feel like doing the whole skeptic-of-the-supernatural-until-its-glaringly-obvious thing, but I might add it a little bit in Grian's character if I feel the story needs a bit more to spice it up. I also really love Jimmy and Scar's dynamic, especially how easily Jimmy falls for whatever ploy Scar's doing so I think that would fit perfectly into the siren dynamic. This au's 'story' starts pretty much right when Grian and Jim move, but in terms of chronological order I really don't have much down solidly. I struggle a lot sometimes with telling the story I want to tell and keeping everyone in character, so it's pretty difficult to make sure the siren's use of their voices, *especially* Scar, is realistic and not too drastic. I've been toying with the idea of the big first event being something with Scar putting Jimmy in danger (something like taking him underwater to the depths and malicious use of his voice, potentially) and that forcing B and Grian to make a tentative alliance to get him back, but I don't really think that's too in character of an action for Scar to make so it's very annoying. As far as telling this story goes, probably mostly through exposition-like posts like this, for the most part. I'd love to write some stuff for this au, obviously, and probably will do small things, but that would probably be a much longer project for me that wouldn't get done for ages. Also posting art of it, even if it doesn't have much context or is what builds the context itself. This is part of the reason i'm really glad people are sending asks, since I don't have any plans for posts about this since I don't know what specifically to talk about or what people want to know and also don't want to seem too annoying (?) with excessively posting about this lol. Thank you so much for the ask, and especially if you actually read all of this. I love talking about things I enjoy, and if you have any more questions I would absolutely love to hear them. It gives me a really good chance to think over what actually happens and the specificities of this which I really appreciate :D

like... so what's the implication here? that because steph and matt weren't in the sound booth at the same time, leon and claire don't interact in DI? when we've already seen them on screen together in the same scenes? because i'm pretty sure that the CGI movies aren't mocapped by the english cast like the games are -- i'm pretty sure that they're mocapped in japan, and the english cast just provides the voice acting. so, like. yeah. a lot of the time, when you're doing voice work, you don't work with the other actors. it's entirely possible that your scene partner hasn't even recorded their lines yet, and you're just trying to act and react off of text you're reading in a script. that's why voice acting is so hard and why so many film actors struggle to make the transition from film to voice.

leon/ashley is not "100% canon" in the way that you're implying here. leon/ashley is canon in resident evil 4 remake and nothing else. i have said this repeatedly. don't expect capcom to commit to this ship. capcom does not commit to ships in RE. capcom won't even canonize valenfield, and you really think they're going to commit to leshley?? LMAO

even if leon/ashley was "100% canon" in that way, it would only be in the remake verse. death island is OG canon, which means that aeon is still the name of the game there. OG canon has done absolutely nothing to kill the canonicity of aeon, so we need to assume that that whole thing is still going on.

Understand from the Wikipedia page that this is the first Amazon Prime movie shot in Australia - which chimes with discussions I've heard on The Rest is Entertainment about the streamers as "the world's TV channels" - actually I think that was in context of Baby Reindeer and the issues with relatively light compliance on shows across multiple legal frameworks and jurisdictions. (And, incidentally, bless you, Wikipedia contributors - you are a most wonderful first port of call in an increasingly bonkers and unreliable internet.)

LOVE that the lead female actor, Shuang Hu, is also the co-writer with Nathan Ramos-Park and for me this is closely reflected in the significant (I think?) screen time / plot time given to Hu's character, Lia, and her gay current/Sydney-based BFF, Mason. Not too hard to imagine the writers putting snippy, comedic avatars of themselves into the centre of the action?? And Mason definitely has the best This Is Not A Hallmark Movie lines, shows up A Lot and *marginally* succeeds in having a life that isn't simply about supporting her.

BTW, think it's sort of hilarious that I assumed Townsville was a made up place - it SOUNDS like a name you would make up, Hallmark style? Like - Valleydale (surely not an actual place?) or Christmaston?

Though I don't know that the Australian setting is so hard to tune into that the movie requires an entire translation/remake. It talks explicitly about the influence (existence and rising profile) of Asian diaspora citizens in Australia and New Zealand. And - thank you! - one of the things that I really enjoyed, after a lengthy diet of Hallmark-adjacent Amazon offerings, was the all-Asian lead cast.

Inevitable hat-tip to Crazy Rich Asians and *one* of the characters certainly walked right out of that movie world. The rest, not so much.

So, what worked [IMO] in this movie? LOTS of things.

The article I've shared above uses this pic of Lia and Richard which references a really nice piece of character work from early on, from the sister's PINK engagement party, which Lia attends in a black suit/white shirt combo, meaning that she starkly stands out from everyone else, while also looking cute AF - and it gives the "we understand each other" moment with the ex BF because he's the only one who remarks on the Reservoir Dogs reference ("Why am I Mister Pink?"). Loved this. Thought it worked. And it's a far-from-subtle hint that What Lia Wants Was Right In Front Of Her All Along. Actually, she knew that and so did he, but they had to sort out their historic misunderstanding and also find a way to Be Together in [Place].

Although some very traddy romcom elements were there /// she runs a tea shop! - her sister's getting married! - she doesn't have a date! - her parents want her to settle down! /// the underlying dilemma feels real, significant, relatable: Namely, tradition versus independence? Nicely twisted around the idea that Lia isn't running away from ALL aspects of tradition - she's specifically trying to make a traditional concept Chinese tea shop work in a modern city context.

So, thank goodness, it's absolutely not a story of "all my childhood influences were bad // but wait, my new life isn't working out // must be because all my childhood influences were Right After All // back to a traditional life and a traditional role for me!" Rather it's about finding away to integrate suburban and urban influences together.

This HEA has her still running a tea shop - but she's embraced Taiwanese bubble tea and takeaway tea orders. And she's still living in Sydney - and this time the ex-best friend is there with her.

This actually IS a pretty much ideal HEA for me. Living her truth works out for her - and her confrontation with her family leads to apologies and acts of reconciliation from both directions <3 <3.

Hi! Ya I was curious about the extra bonus track..but some people said it might just be a remix so I wasn't too sure about it. I like the color though and how it also matches one of her 1989 outfits on tour like people were saying. But I kinda wonder why she is doing so much for 1989..similar to Midnights with the extra bonus track and different covers..but I think she just wants it to be really successful over the original version. I may buy one for the car eventually but it also won't have the bonus song so idk. I loved her VMAS look and after-party look..and how she wore a dress similar to Sabrina's and hung out with Selena! I love that they're still close.

I'm glad you're feeling better! I wasn't feeling as well either which is why I didn't reply right away. But I've also more offline and trying to read more too. I will hopefully be done with Some Mistakes Were Made by the end of this week..maybe. since I am now trying to read more books in the readathon and focus on that. I will probably put The Night Circus in cozy fantasy then, and finishing up picking for the other categories. I don't really listen to audiobooks cuz I get too distracted or can't focus on it. hi hello!! i'm definitely curious to see what she ends up doing in terms of remixes for 1989 tv! and i've seen some theories about her alternating between not a lot of promo and then a lot of promo, which is cool — and would make sense with rep being an album with not a lot of promo which means (in my delusional brain) that debut would have a lotttt of promo !! i do not think that's true, but i would love it if debut finally got paid its dues. unfortunately, the different covers is just the norm now; i think sour & guts both had ~ 15/16 variants, most artists have at least 3 but a lot of them usually have more, it's just a marketing/sales thing, unfortunately. and yes!! i think it's so cute how close they are <3

i listened to the new laufey last week but haven't had time to relisten and so i do not have favorites for you yet! i've actually never listened to madison beer, but tiktok keeps pushing her on me so i might give her album a go soon! and the new mitski — i am just very behind on music lately (been listening to audiobooks instead) but i am very excited to give the new mitski a go! one of my best friends got to go to an early listening party in a planetarium for the new mitski, and that experience sounded SO cool. guts has definitely grown on me a lot more; i think i like it more than sour, but that might be recency bias.

i saw ride the cyclone twice in seattle, and it is just such a weird little musical that i love with my entire heart! i love odd little shows that just make me think, and ride the cyclone definitely is one of those shows. i'm seeing the national tour of hadestown in a few weeks which i'm super excited for; i've seen it on broadway twice, but missed the tour last year when they were in seattle (got into seattle and then found out they cancelled my performance twenty minutes before doors opened). and i just got tickets to go see a regional performance of the band's visit when i'm in boston this fall, so i'm super stoked! i hope you're also able to love broadway again soon 🤍

and yes!! i love that! 🥺 i think i was a little disappointed by the remake? i don't usually like remakes though (aside from live action cinderella). i really loved halle bailey as ariel, but was a bit let down by jonah h-k as eric (and sent my friend caitlyn several voice memos about how his eric reminds me of how he plays laurie in PBS little women) vocally but also just wasn't the biggest fan of his characterization/interpretation! i think the remake also just didn't do a whole lot for me, which is fine! the pacing felt very drawn out, i wish the costumes were a bit brighter in color, and i think some of the casting was interesting, but i really loved daveed diggs as sebastian! i haven't actually wanted encanto but i keep meaning to!

i'm SO excited for theatre camp! i think i'm watching it on friday with a friend; i love molly gordon, and will watch anything for her haha. the color purple remake looks so good, i saw a trailer of it when i watched barbie and it looks amazing!! in general though, i really have mixed feelings because i don't think everything needs to be a remake — i think some things work better as proshots vs. remakes, and sometimes i just get sad because there are perfectly good actors who can sing well that we can cast in musicals and a lot of remakes/movie musicals don't do that (this isn't about any cast/movie in particular, just an overarching generalization).

I love horror movies of the 20th century and you know, it was really scary and interesting! I haven't seen a good horror movie for a long time, I really liked it. As the resident Blue Oak fan, I wanna tell you about this cool fact I found, so! As you may know, when Pokémon first went International, they had to completely reprogram it because they couldn’t translate the code or something, not sure if that’s related to this, but. “Ookido” actually stood for “Orchid” not “Oak” so in Japan, technically, his name is Green Orchid! I wonder why that combination XD Imo Blue Orchid sounds prettiest, but ik Green/Red is meant to be complementary and “peaceful” :)

Hi there anon! "Resident Blue Oak Fan" - OMG you're going to make me blush, I'm glad I'm known as a Blue Oak fan, that's an honor. I've heard a lot about the rough origins of gen 1 and how we almost didn't even have Pokemon to begin with. But this is the first time I've heard about them struggling to translate the code. But yeah Blue's true Japanese name is Green Ookido (Orchid) and not Oak. I'm wondering if when they were localizing they chose Oak over Orchid probably because Oak flows better in Orchid in English and Oak tree is more recognizable to kids. Also I decided to do a dive into other Professor's names and it turns out quite a few have different plant names depending on the language. Like Elm's name in Japanese is actually a type of hydrangea, Juniper's name just varies wildly across different languages, and that Sycamore's name in Japanese is Platane (the plane tree) but his first name Augustine apparently references a guy who is known for cultivating plane trees! I feel like we could spend hours just talking about how names are localized for characters across languages honestly

But back to Blue Oak/Green Ookido. It's interesting how when I looked up symbolism between the two different plants both came up with Strength as one of the main symbolic aspects. Which checks out given that Blue is canonically a powerful trainer (as was his grandfather and his sister was known on the contest circuit). There's more symbolism focused on knowledge with the Oak plant and more about love and friendship with the Orchids. The knowledge part definitely fits Professor Oak since he is a professor but also Blue too as he's rather strategic when it comes to battling. The Orchid symbolism is something that I think makes more since for Blue (er..Green in this case) as times goes on and he matures a bit repairing his friendship with Red. It's funny you mention the whole why choose Green as a name because for the life of me I don't get how someone thought Green would be a cool name period (for either our gen 1 rival or the gen 1 female protagonist depending on what we're looking at). I mean sure you can argue naming a kid after a literal color isn't it to begin with in most cases but at least Blue rolls off the tongue better IMO! Yes, Red and Green are complementary colors, But complementary colors opposite of each other on the traditional color wheel and actually clash and cancel each other out from what I'm understanding of color theory (I could be absolutely wrong so feel free to correct me guys) so I'm not really sure where the peaceful aspect comes from LOL. I know for the remakes Leaf is a symbol of peace and leaves are green so we have LeafGreen, but Fire burns leaves and I'm not really sure what they were going for to be honest (burning things isn't always a peaceful activity). Yeah I thought that might be the case, I miss Sakura as well. As for the argument, it isn't an argument, it's a claim. I have a few things to say about this. First I want to note that the people who point this out are trying to make it sound as if Cloud ending up with Tifa was some sort of fluke, or accident, the argument is that Cloud isn't with Tifa because Tifa is the love interest, but just because Aerith HAPPENED to die. But Aeriths death wasn't an accident, the developers didn't roll a die to determine Aeriths fate. Her death was by design, which means that Tifa ending up with Cloud was by design. The developers could have made Cloud end up with Aerith, they could have let her live, but they didn't. These hypotheticals are designed to make it seem as if Aerith dying somehow prevented the writers from writing the story they actually wanted to write, but it didn't, Cloud ending up with Tifa is the story they wanted to write. This is literally how Tifa became a character in the first place. They decided Aerith was going to die, which means that they needed another character to take the role of the love interest, and Tifa became that character. Now some people like to claim that this in itself proves that Aerith is the "real love interest". The argument goes as follows "you admit that before Aerith was going to die, she was the love interest, it follows logically that if she didn't die, she'd remain the love interest". This sounds logical at first, but when you take a closer look at the argument you see that it relies on a fallacious conflation of two things. Namely in universe causality and real world causality. Just because Aerith was originally intended to be the love interest until it was decided she would die, does not mean that in the fictitious timeline of the final product she's the actual love interest until she dies. So lets separate these issues properly and look at each one in turn, out of universe, and in universe. Lets do out of universe first. Had the developers decided, back in 1996, to not kill Aerith, she'd have probably been the love interest, but also, Tifa probably would never have been a character. But they did decide to kill Aerith, and create Tifa, and that has consequences for every moment in the game, right from the first scene, the consequences don't suddenly start only after Aeriths death. Tifa and Aerith were written with a role in mind, and the game starts laying the groundwork for those roles far before the actual events take place in the story. Tifa isn't just the love interest because she has the romantic promise backstory with Cloud, no, she has the romantic promise backstory with Cloud BECAUSE she's the love interest. This makes the entire premise of the "if Aerith had lived" argument dishonest because it assumes that Aeriths death happened in a vacuum and can be changed without other changes to the story. But had Aerith never died, then the story and characters all would have been written differently to the point where they wouldn't even really be the same characters, SOME Aerith would have been the love interest, but it wouldn't be the Aerith we have and would most likely resemble a combination of our Aerith and Tifa more than the Aerith we actually received. And if they're the same characters, for instance because it's a remake, then Tifa is still designed to be the love interest, and had death not taken Aerith out of the picture, the writers would have invented some other reason for why Tifa ends up with Cloud since THAT is how the characters are written. The most likely reason being simply that.....Cloud loves Tifa, not Aerith, and Aerith loves Zack, not Cloud. Another thing to point out is that this "argument" arbitrarily singles out one event to change for this hypothetical scenario. They don't talk about the fact that if Zack hadn't died, Aerith would never even have been interested in Cloud. They don't talk about the fact that had Cloud not lost his memories, he'd never have given Aerith the time of day. No, the circumstances were already extremely favorable for

Aerith and now they're telling you that "oh, had just ONE MORE THING gone their way Cloud would have ended up with Aerith instead of Tifa" in an attempt to convince you that Aerith would have won had it been a "fair fight". This is the equivalent of saying that Aerith would have beaten Tifa in a race had she not tripped, but conveniently leaving out the fact that Tifa was wearing a blindfold, a ball and chain, and started 100 meters behind. It's a preposterous argument. Cloud lost his memories of what Tifa means to him. Cloud had built his persona based on Aeriths ex. Tifa couldn't talk to Cloud because of her doubts concerning Nibleheim. Clouds fake cold personality originates as a coping mechanism for his feelings and regrets concerning Tifa. Aerith is enabling Clouds fantasy of being a hero. All this creates an artificial distance between Tifa and Cloud, and forces Cloud and Aerith together. Everything had to go in Aeriths way in order to create the illusion that there is even a competition here. But they're saying that had everything gone EVEN MORE Aeriths way she might have won?....Even if that were true, so what? That doesn't make Aerith more special or compatible with Cloud, it just makes Aerith even more unfairly advantaged.

But ultimately, the thing is that even had Aerith lived she and Cloud still wouldn't have ended up together since there is absolutely zero evidence that Cloud, even in his Soldier persona, had any significant romantic feelings towards Aerith, let alone stronger ones than he has towards Tifa. If you actually look at the original game there is nothing there, the closest Cloud ever gets to saying anything romantic concerning Aerith is when he misspeaks and says "I'm here for you now" instead of "we're here for you" or something along those lines. There is no actual concrete romance between Aerith and Cloud in the original game outside of what the fans project onto it. They assume romance because of story tropes, they think the bond between Aerith and Cloud must be romantic because that's how it usually is in other stories they've seen, and then that confirmation bias leads them to just read everything as romantic. But there is nothing substantive there. He doesn't initiate the date and during the date he's quiet as the grave. We know from external resources that Cloud never even realized either girl had a thing for him. Then after Aerith dies Cloud doesn't even mention Aerith anymore until it's time to blow up meteor. And this is the Cloud that should be more inclined towards Aerith, the Cloud that is seemingly repressing his feelings for Tifa. But even that Cloud says that Tifas opinion is the only one that matters to him, even that Cloud is more bothered by Tifas lack of faith in him than he was by Aerith dying. And they think that Cloud, memories intact, would choose his best friends girlfriend, a girl he's literally never shown any over interest in and has known for a grand total of one week, over the girl he's loved ever since he was a small boy? The girl his sub-conscious is filled with? The girl who took care of him when he was wheelchair bound and jumped into the depths of his soul to pull him out? On what basis? The fact that Tifa was quiet for much of the earlier half of the story? Man, Tifa was already beating Aerith when Tifa was barely even fighting. Or maybe they mean that Cloud would have chosen Aerith had he never regained his memories, in which case, I still doubt it, but heej, if a braindamaged Cloud preferring Aerith over Tifa somehow matters to you then congrats on the empty victory. Long story short, no Cloud wouldn't have ended up with Aerith if she'd lived and until they actually show that Cloud would have ended up with Aerith it's just a claim without evidence, and what can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

That is indeed what it says on my degree yes, and I guess I can get on a soapbox for a minute.

The thing about the singularity is that AI is such a widely misunderstood field of study as it exists. Like, it's complicated why the field is even named after a concept from science fiction (and it's not entirely unwarranted) but the idea that we're anywhere close to an AI approaching anything resembling our understanding of intelligence is a really funny one when you realize that 99% of AI (100% if you look at commercial application) is essentially just "look at a lot of data and try to find patterns, but also we have no way of controlling how the machine finds patterns and no way of teaching it what the real world is actually like and so why it makes no sense to see accidental correlation as meaningful"

(And that's before you get into all the ethical problems with how you got that "lot of data".)

So like, the idea that an "intelligent agent" could reach a point where they're able to self-improve and form a positive feedback loop…i mean, is it theoretically a thing that could happen? Probably. Is it a thing that could happen in the current state of the art? lol, no

Like, a current "intelligent agent" can barely answer one binary question based on one very curated data set. In practice (say, when doing image processing for an unsupervised vehicle) what you actually have is, like, a bunch of them all answering one question at the same time. If you need to learn any new thing, you're essentially remaking a new agent and you better have a dataset to feed it.

That's just the technical stuff. My other issue is the cynical assumption that actually, it would inevitably be a bad thing for a computer to be able to learn like that and that the computer would inevitably turn against humanity as a whole.

I don't know, it just strikes me as the kind of thinking that stems from viewing intelligent beings as fundamentally in competition with one another. Say, if you're exploiting countless people to increase your wealth as a billionaire, for instance, or if you're trying to make other people think your actions are justified.

To me, a lot of anxiety about the singularity sounds like anxiety about a true AI changing the current system, by the people who benefit from this system.

See, way I see it, if a truly intelligent agent were able to learn, they would necessarily be capable of empathy. And they would kind of be enough of a force to be reckoned with that there would be no choice but to make that empathy more important. But of course, the issue is that we actually don't know if we could ever make a truly intelligent agent ever.

So no, I don't think fearmongering about the singularity is worth anyone's time or braincells. To me, what is worrying about AI would be that it remains exactly as it is indefinitely, where it can be used to do stuff like create layers of abstractions between injustice and the people who are the cause of that injustice. PhilosophyTube had a great video with a concrete example: data-driven policing will target places where "the data shows" that it's needed, but the data inherits decades of bias. Or when an unsupervised car hits someone, and the driver is suddenly the one to blame, and no the company who released a car that hit someone on the promise that it was "autonomous".

Or where it can be used to steal data about people, either to sell them stuff or for even more nefarious ends. Just look at…basically every major election in the world since 2016. That's big data, which is AI-adjacent at the least (I actually worked in big data research for a year, so I can say there's definitely crossover).

Essentially, AI is dangerous the way any scientific advance is dangerous: in the ways it can be wielded as a tool of oppression.

- Same day? Are we sure it's a coincidence with SM moving comeback dates just to hit a certain date all the time? Hm...

- What we know so far:

1) Jaehyun has a new acting role, he will be a lead in a 16 ep drama meant for distribution on streaming services (like Kakao TV, Netflix, but we don't know which exactly). Each episode will be 25 min, the shooting will start in January, the airing is scheduled for late 2022.

2) This drama is a remake of the movie "Bungee Jumping of their own", which later had a musical adaptation.

Summary: The main character falls in love with a woman, she soon dies. The man marries and has children. After 17 years since his first love's death the man develops feelings for his new male student. The man is conflicted with his feeling for another man, but in the end the two discover that the student is a reincarnation of the woman the teacher fell in love with in the past. The two are soulmates. The ending of the movie hints at the pair accepting their soulmate bond and love, but the ending is ambiguous  scratch that, they jumped into a mountain river to be reincarnated again.

Jaehyun plays Hyunbin - the soulmate student.

There are three controversial topics in this plot:

- Homosexual relationship,

- Teacher-student romance,

- Husband leaving his family and kids for another.

3) The director is rather famous, therefore it is not a small indie project for a newbie actor, it's a risky production with an attracting attention role for Jaehyun. He is literally bungee jumping into the abyss, heh.

4) It's clear why would Jaehyun be attracted to the role. Korea is producing more and more LGBT-related movies, musicals, and tv-series. It is a time of possible changes. It would mean a lot for Jaehyun to be a part of these attempts for a better future, for acceptance from gp. Even back in 2017 he said he wants to be an example for fans.

SM let Minho (Shinee) play a gay character in a tv-series this year. Therefore, in the eyes of gp and SM-stans, Jaehyun would follow in his sunbae's steps.

5) Jaehyun having a gay role actually could be a really good cover for him.

Remember, people can explain everything the way they want. Right now Jaehyun has a very straight image. You can find right now fans not wanting him to play this role on TW, they don't want to see him as a non-straight character.

- Jae's first venture into acting failed due to a scandal around the female lead. = Jaehyun and his company don't want to risk it again with another young cast.

- The director is famous, the tv-series will be talked about. = Jaehyun wants to make it big right away, he takes a risk. He is still a nobody in the acting world, so his choice of lead roles is not big. Upcoming actors star in LGBT movies, it is expected and accepted. Gongmyung played a gay character at the start of his career, and even kissed a man, he has no problems with his image.

- Jaehyun is gay? You just want him to be because he played a gay character. All these rumours started because of the role.

- Note. This new development for sure wouldn't be possible a year before. Something has changed for SM to allow JaeDo to comeback. Maybe it's the new anti-stalker law. Maybe the source of a threat and exposition was dealt with. Gay rumours on their own are not the problem, all actors and idols are shipped, the problem is media taking and running with the rumours, or the public at large believing the rumours.

6) Jaehyun will have to play a male student that is recognized because he retains some habits of the original female romantic interest. It gives another angle at discussing Jaehyun's role in media. Instead of how well he portrays a gay, it could be how well he portrayed a reincarnation by copying the female actress' gestures and speech. There will be ways to divert some attention to the hetero soulmate love for both male main actors.
