sometimes i look at CoS analysis essays and think man. are you actually reading the source text or are you just substituting what a creative DM can do with it for what’s actually there.

#this is a problem across the board actually #ppl mistake a favorable interpretation for something that's actually Present In The Text #and they end up allegory-of-the-cave-ing the whole thing #where the shadows on the wall are a better story than what's actually casting them #which i guess is a broader problem than one dnd module hghdfhg but like #i see ppl bending over backwards to praise the book about things that are patently not in there!#don't give wotc credit for what a good DM does with their material #give the DM credit instead ffs
