Would you take a job with 1.5 hour commute every way?
It depends on the job, as in I'd only consider it if it was a dream job that I felt was a really promising, or one that I needed to take for my overall career path, and how well I was getting paid (it should definitely not be unaffordable transportation costwise to do the commute, especially if it's going to add an extra 3 hours to your every workday to get there and back). Otherwise I'd personally try to find something closer to home. I also live somewhere that an hour commute is considered extremely long to get to most places and where you have to take your own vehicle most times to get around, though.
#like people where i live are not used to much commute time at all and generally you can get anywhere in about half an hour#of driving yourself there#i also live in the biggest city where the most jobs are#people from more rural parts are more willing to commute#one time i took a job where i drove an hour both ways but it wasnt the best decision financially#i did it because it was a museum job actually related to my fine arts degree though#which are hard to come by in my area#generally just weigh the pros and cons of it#see what other people in your area consider reasonable#and also make sure you could afford to make the commute#financially and time commitment wise#ask#anon#p

#ugh the amount of trust this dog has in me absolutely breaks my heart#I had to shave the area under his chin some more before starting the steroid cream#since the vet wasn't able to do a proper job of it#so i put Røst on his placemat where we usually do our wound care stuff#i flicked the clippers on and he immediately start trembling#like SO BAD#which he's never done before#so it's pretty obvious yesterday really left a mark on him#despite literally shaking with fear though he let me touch the clippers to him over and over again until the area was clear#he jerked away from it within a handful of seconds every time#but he took treats and listened when i told him to wait#and just let me come back with the clippers to get the job done#by the end he'd stopped shaking and was back to his happy self as soon as i switched the clippers off#I love him so much#this must have been SO hard for him#he's so incredibly sensitive and he holds onto negative associations really hard#so the fact that i was allowed to continue to clip him without any kind of retraint is purely down to his trust in me#and his need to do a good job for me#i do not deserve this dog

#borderlands is good and i have yet to see criticism that actually tracks#well much. Yo! Don’t mean this to be anything spooky I love your art and the story you’re curating! I am someone with non correctable progressive vision issues and have noticed a lot of ppl in the ffxiv community using shadowbringers as an in to make their characters partially sighted or unsighted. The only thing I wanted to point out is that eyes generally only cloud with direct injury, infection, or something like cataracts (which is treatable). I don’t know your background and assume you have done research into how to handle displaying a disability like that, but wanted to point out that lightening eyes as a visual indicator of vision issues can be challenging. I have had people come to me and others in my life saying that since the disability isn’t visual as depicted in media that we couldn’t possibly be disabled or have any physical differences. Totally understand why people do it totally understand why it’s interesting to introduce to a character. Just something to be aware of. Visual impairment specifically I think gets handled really poorly in general media (side eyeing ‘shtola). Not upset or trying to be nitpicky! Idk your experience or background so you might be well aware. Just wanted to share my personal lived experience in case :,)

Yes I have done someeee research though obviously im no expert on the subject (and I wanted to directly address what happened to Sesame later in his story, I kept it a little vague on purpose currently) but so far I did intent for some kind of cataract to be on his eyes and def doesn't have complete vision loss however it def is impaired at the moment.
However !! In any case I will do my best to depict it as properly as I can but of course if something comes up I would love to hear any feedback/guidance!

Discovered that two of the femme books I'd been wanting for a while (that JUST arrived) were written by femmes who actually live in my state. Is. #archivist talk#also very glad i am putting a pause on book purchasing for fixing the subaru budget reasons#because since i posted those photos of my current collection for example#more than a dozen books have come in#and i'm still waiting on a couple more arrivals#a few of them are black lesbian anthologies i've had my eye on for quite a while so i'm really excited EEEEEEE#if i had $300-ish to spare i think i could probably clear out the niche on my book list that is black/southern usa/sapphic#i think wrapping up the rest of the femme collection might take $400-ish but god i am willing#the butch collection .... is gonna be a real doozy for a fat minute i need to find somewhere that even has copies of certain books to sell#which will also be hard because in my two years of looking i am still looking for books that i have never seen pop up#worst comes to worst i'm going to scout every bookstore in my area#maybe go through the whole state if i'm feeling plucky#and then definitely go to chicago because i love chicago and miss their bookstores#also i have found a few really good finds in chicago bookstores before so i hope my luck holds

even though i feel like i can confidently tell when a piece of art is generative A/I, i really don't feel inclined or really even justified calling someone out for it due to the precedent it sets - especially when artists who DO make their own pieces get caught in the crossfire for being inexperienced or making the choice to be more free-form when it comes to character design / consistency...
#i can't even really put into words how I can Tell#other than like... random blurry details in areas that would not logically have those details blurred - for styles imitating digital art#what i mean by this is: you can kind of tell when and where a type of tool has been used when it comes to digital pieces#if it looks like an artist grabbed the smudge tool and used it in a small area surrounded by crisper details ... it seems like an arbitrary#- and thoughtless decision#especially when it comes to character design pieces#this blurriness is also present in a type of style that wouldn't see much reason to use the smudge tool at all .. such as a cell shaded -#- toon style with thick outlines#i think what bothers me about this whole debacle is how we're setting up an environment where people feel inclined to lie about using-#-generative tools... part of the problem is the foundation of a/i art to be using people's work without . permission. im sure a good amount#-of artists wouldnt have minded MAKING pieces to be used solely for these type of tools#since generative art has been used as an excuse to replace artists in an attempt to render their work unnecessary or obsolete ... it's -#- become politicized and viewed as anti-artist. which. fair enough. it was pitched and sold that way#but even if like... these initial problems were addressed i feel like there'd still be a lot of stigma associated with generative art#since a lot of people's beef with it is the fact that it feels soulless. and i feel like that has to do with how the generated works are -#- being passed off as completed full pieces and not have any transformative work done upon them#i always joke about like 'they should invent art that's easier to make' ... but i don't want the hard work on my end replaced#just some help really. or guidance on completing my own work. A/I could have -possibly- been used as another form of reference#(if it were more competent. i think it's sloppy as hell in its current state)#but before it was uh... hugely controversial and right when generative A/I got more competent? i actually saw it as a toy.#i wanted to play with it and see what would come out... im honestly just more-so frustrated that it's viewed as on-par or better than-#-work done by human beings. what makes something art to me is if it's been transformed by human intention and connection#and i don't get how it's snobby to dislike A/I art for that reason. why do y'all think artists love when people dissect and examine their-#-work ? art is about human connection. we have ancient monuments and abandoned cave paintings we know nothing about-#- but are captivated by because we want to know WHY they're there. WHO made them. and for what reason#and i think a/i art is a painful reminder for a lot of artists that to a lot of people art is only valued through aesthetic merit#no acknowledgement for an artist's hard work .. their life .. all the personal intention behind their work#it's the commodification being thrown back in our faces tenfold#another tag essay by me. shiloh

listening to octopath music and drawing and writing stuff for my octopath pmd au so The Horrors(tm) dont get me
#i am getting WAY too in depth with these character profiles but if i dont hyperfocus on it i will implode .#like. we got species (including fusions/variants) types (may differ due to species) (plus an extra type bc of mixing in octopath mechanics)#also bc they can have up to 3 types at once i calculated everyones weaknesses and resistances which is actually kinda fun w tri-typed mons#also movesets up to 9 moves including 8 from their species(es.?) and 1 from their extra type . bc octopath#and abilities which everyone can have up to 2 of bc of how the older pmd games worked#tho each start with one and gain one in a similar way to octopath which allows for more mismatching#and also making it easier to choose fitting abilities for everyone they otherwise woildnt have access to#their IQ groups (tho. i am mildly tempted to scrap that and make my own groups. no yeah thats my next task now)#held items and general/single use items theyd most likely have#and any other individual notes i have on them 👍 like therion being unable to evolve further bc part of his lineage is a 2 stage evo#ohhh i also need to note where everyone comes from. except maybe therion bc we dont know his hometown at all#thats gonna be kinda hard bc each continent has pretty much all the biomes but psmd changed that up a bit..... hm....#and the sand continent is straight up from psmd only unlike the rest so i need to check if theres anything besides deserts there#bc i could theoretically put 2 travellers per continent and go from there.. I think being autistic does actually make me inherently better at animal handling because I, too, have been yelled at for growling and biting when everyone ignored my previous warnings and didn’t set clear boundaries
#my roommate’s always like Wow my dog responds so well to you!#yeah bitch I set clear expectations and consistent rules and I don’t yell at him#and I pay attention to his body language and the rituals he creates#literally it’s not that hard#ya she got him to train as a service dog LMAO#she doesn’t have the money to send him to a trainer and the time to do it herself#when I recommended she pull from the emergency fund (because his reactivity is getting BAD to the point of borderline aggression)#she was like ‘who has an emergency fund for their pet :P’#BITCH IDK IM NOT MAKING $30+ AN HOUR WITH A 401K AND FULL INSURANCE PACKAGE#THATS WHY I DONT HAVE A DOG??#just an in-the-works shrimp tank that I do in fact have a small emergency fund for#it’s your job as a responsible pet owner to attend to your animal’s needs. if you can’t do that you shouldn’t have a pet#and she fucking undermines the training /I/ give#like I was teaching him to find a toy when someone knocks at the door to redirect his energy and prevent barking#but now whenever he barks at the door she YELLS at him to find his toy#so I had to stop training that area because like. what the fuck am I gonna do???#notably I am the only person who can consistently get him to stop barking at the door#completely unrelated to the fact that I’m calm and give him treats when he stops barking#and comes over to me and chills out#goddddd I hate her she shouldn’t have any animals ever#anyways what was I saying.#oh yeah I’m the only person in this apartment who should ever be allowed to have a dog#this is also why I dont plan to get one! #welp they lowered us to 5-8 last night but uh…#I woke up to 6 inches already on the ground with it coming down hard#and they upped us to 6-12 when I first checked#but we’ve been upped again to 8–13#the roads were never treated here and it’s not plowed and my ride said nah fam so I called out of work#which like mild anxiety about that but also I’m glad#my sister in law texted me to be like pls tell me you don’t have to go out and that roads are horrible and she slid everywhere#this is wild like two days ago they were lol we’re not gonna get anything#love that the weatherman is always fucking wrong anymore#reminds me of the storm a few years back where they were like ‘maybe 1-3?’#but we kept getting more and they eventually just gave up and slapped us with a blizzard warning#we got 33 inches that time which was the highest recorded ever for our area lol#this ain’t got the potential to do that it’s not a big enough storm#but get a little anxiety when it seems like they don’t know how much and keep upping it#but also sNOWWWWWW! :D#I will be so upset when I have to shovel later but ssssnnnnnoooowwwwww o:

#Candela Obscura talk in the tags#I'm just. this map isn't labeled so I'm going off vibes but. the Steel is on the other side of the river from South Soffit?#South Soffit's blue collar population being largely dock workers--sure. but who's working the factories?#the Steel as part of recent urban sprawl because of the advent of electricity and industrialization--fine.#the Steel's obvious proximity to the Red Lamp--great. clock out and ____ out :)))#I just think they painted themselves into a corner with this map#swap that area with Briar Green. expand the Steel and Red Lamp all the way to the rail line#and put the second rail station on that side of the river. feels organic you know?#I just have a hard time accepting the whole city could be *that* class-integrated and enlightened#when South Soffit is literally beneath the Eaves#that tells me there are a lot of folks in Newfaire who would prefer to keep a river between them and the folk who keep the lights on#anyway it bugs me. finished lanks' route!! I would kill and die for liam one thousand times
#hes so. spins around#hes so silly but soooo full of horrors hes like the universes punching bag#his route was. so quick holy shit#like i could just PLOW through ALL the enemies in a couple turns. the boss fight with hart was a joke#emotional overload is mad op during fights w multiple foes#and triple fireball is like. INSANELY op in 1v1 fights#lanks is NOT FUCKING AROUND!!!!!!!#also i got locked onto beltboys route just now. yay <3 < i will cry and scream and suffer so so much#beltboys route is gonna be sooooo emotional and i will explode by the end. and then come back to do rod's route#i feel confident enough to do pain mode methinks. the savepoint thing is gonna be the worst i think handling combat wont be that hard#but im an avid saver i save my progress always constantly and forever#so getting to use savepoints once is gonna be. um. UM. UH. UM. yeah#but im sooooooo curious abt how rods route is gonna look. also i just wanna see more of rodriguez!!!!#he seems like such a fun character ok#also i can recruit yogurt so. yay <3 yogurt my best friend yogurt#im gonna try recruiting reginald as well which you can apparently do in the normal routes which i did NOT know#maybe someday ill replay the game from the beginning [and actually get to explore area 3] and try recruiting him then !#yay. lets go babey

So it turns out the pro strat to beat white palace is to spend an entire year not playing hollow knight at all
#I FUCKINGGGHGGHHHGJGHHH I DID IT#I RAGE QUIT LAST YEAR MIDWAY THROUGH WHITE PALACE AND THEN IMMEDIATELY WENT TO COLLEGE AND WHEN I GOT BACK#IT WAS JUST MORE COLLEGE SO I COULDN'T PLAY#IT HAS BEEN. A YEAR#I DID IT#DIES FOREVER#The bit that made me rage quit wasn't even late in the area which I think is super funny#It was that alternating spike hallway on the right (?) path#Like I just could NOT get the timing for the life of me#It took me five minutes. This time#I DID however get stuck in the last hard area#With the sawblade parkour that turns into dodging the spikes and then BUGS#That KILLED me killed me. End of that part I was sobbing and crying and screaming. Real gamer here#I was on call with my partner and the second I got to that little platform I turned into snapcube Eggman#The door's open... I can finally leave..... Martha I'm coming home sweetie...... And then I jumped and died#Anyways now I'm free I can die to traitor lord thirty times!!! today's botw session involved calling off the plan to go do a bunch of towers in a row, heading towards the coliseum because I'm scared of it and I want to go check it out now instead of after it gets tougher, wandering around the big tree stumps in Crenel Hills, shooting a bunch of wizrobes and being shot by a bunch of wizrobes (the lightning one was a last minute choice to fight and also the worst idea to fight), looping a bit to the east so I didn't get too close to the castle, saving a bunch of people I'd already saved because they won't stay off the fricking road (Leekah) or stay out of the ruins (Mina and Mils), seeing my first falling star and running like hell for it, getting chased and lasered multiple times by a roaming guardian while getting to the star fragment, warping the fuck away from the roaming guardian after getting my star fragment, learning that special weapons have colorful & loud sparkles when they're dropped, realizing I'd previously explored all the way around the coliseum but just never actually crossed the bridge, and stopping right outside it for now.
#charlie babbles#I do not expect anyone to read these I just like journaling about it lol#I can't not get scared that the game is getting 'too hard' too fast which is dumb but it's where my brain is at#so I partly wanted to come back to early game areas and make sure there's still red bokoblins out here#and also I accidentally saw that the coliseum lynels get worse and worse as I get through divine beasts and I am already SO BAD at lynels s#we'll see how it goes (it will go badly)
