What’s New In Python 3.11 & Python 3.11.3 ?
Tumblr media
The Python 3.11 changelog is a seemingly unending collection of bug fixes, improvements, and additions, the majority of which you may never discover. However, a few crucial new features may significantly improve your Python process when the stable release arrives.
Here’s a rundown of the most significant new features in Python 3.11 and what they mean for Python developers.
1. Increased Speed
The first big change that will thrill data scientists is an increase in speed—the usual benchmark suite now runs around 25% faster than in 3.10. According to the Python documentation, 3.11 can be up to 60% faster in some cases.
2. More Informative Error Tracebacks
Another immediately useful feature in Python 3.11 is more detailed error messages. Python 3.10 already had better error reporting, thanks to the new parser used in the interpreter. Now, Python 3.11 expands on that by improving error message that pinpoints the specific location of the fault. Rather than returning a 100-line traceback that ends with a difficult-to-understand error message, Python 3.11 points to the expression that produced the error.
Tumblr media
In the preceding example, the Python interpreter refers to the x that caused the script to fail due to its None value. Because there are two objects with the ‘x’ attribute, the error would have been unclear in current Python versions. However, 3.11’s error handling clearly identifies the faulty expression.
This example shows how 3.11 can identify an issue in a deeply nested dictionary and clearly identify the key the error belongs to.
3. Exception Notes
“Explicit is better than implicit.”
The preceding text is the second line of the Zen of Python, which is a list of Python’s 20 design principles. This is an example of the rule that Python code should be as expressive as feasible.
Python 3.11 includes exception notes to emphasise this design approach. (PEP 678). When you raise an error, you may now call the add_note() function inside your unless clauses and give a custom message.
Tumblr media
If you have written a custom exception class like below, you can add multiple notes to the class inside the protected class-level attribute __notes__:
Tumblr media
4. Exception Improvements
Multiple exceptions can be raised and handled at once with the new except* syntax and the new ExceptionGroup exception type. This allows the elegant handling of issues where multiple errors can be raised together, such as when dealing with asynchronous or concurrent methods or when dealing with multiple failures when retrying an operation.
“Zero-cost” exceptions: Exceptions now have no cost to a program unless they are actually raised. This means the default path for a try/except block is faster and uses less memory.
The time needed to catch an exception has been reduced by around 10%.
Exceptions can be enriched with contextual notes, separate from the text of the exception itself.
5.New Typing Function: Self
Statically typed languages aid in the readability and debuggability of your code. Defining the exact kind of variables, function inputs, and outputs can save you hours of debugging effort and help others read your code more easily. Adding typing annotations will also allow modern IDEs to display function definitions as you enter their names, making your functions easier for others to understand.
Until now, Python’s strong typing module provided classes for almost any data type, except for classes that return instances of themselves.
Tumblr media
However, Python 3.11 provides the Self class, which you can include in the declaration of a function if the function’s return value is self or a new instance of the class itself.
6. Upgrades to the Standard Libraries
There are a few other quality-of-life improvements to the standard libraries. First, two long-awaited functions are added to the math module. It’s remarkable that it took Python 28 years to include the cube-root function, but as the phrase goes, better late than never.
A new feature in the fractions module allows you to build fractions from strings:
Tumblr media
As you can see, the fractions module is useful for some arithmetic operations. I particularly enjoy how you can get the fraction that is closest to the supplied float. You can go one step farther by specifying a denominator limit:
Tumblr media
There is also a new tomllib module for parsing TOML documents. Tom’s Obvious Minimal Language (TOML) is a common file format for creating human-readable configuration files.
Python uses TOML, or Tom’s Obvious Minimal Language, as a configuration format (as in pyproject.toml), but doesn’t expose the ability to read TOML-format files as a standard library module. Python 3.11 adds tomllib to address that problem.
Conclusion
A new release of Python is always cause for celebration, and acknowledgment of all the effort that’s been poured into the language by volunteers from around the world.
In this blog, you’ve seen new features and improvements like:
Several new typing features that improve Python’s static typing support
Native TOML support for working with configuration files
Better error messages with more informative tracebacks
Faster code execution due to considerable effort in the Faster CPython project
Task and exception groups that simplify working with asynchronous code

Birds Through an Opera-Glass, by Florence A. Merriam (aka Florence Merriam Bailey)
I first heard about this book a few years ago, before I first became interested in birding, but was intrigued by it because of the history and context. Birding in a Western context originated with the approach of going out into the field to shoot birds, and then taking the dead birds home with you to analyse in detail for identification. But in the late 19th century there was a movement to change this, because enthusiasts all going out to kill birds is not actually good for the well-being of birds. And this book was written with that agenda in mind: to convince readers that it is worthwhile to examine live birds in the field, and then leave them be.
When I tried reading it at the time I first heard of it, though, I very quickly became bored of it and gave up. But recently it occurred to me that the book might read better to someone who has an intrinsic love of birds properly installed, and gave it another try - and it was so worth it!
It's fascinating to compare this book to modern field guides. Its approach is so different! Of course, due to the type of printing available at the time, detailed full-colour images of every bird can't reasonably be included, so there are just a few black and white drawings here and there. But also the information provided in the text itself is so different! This is where your can really see its agenda. It earnestly takes its time to tell you personalized individual little stories about times the author has encountered these birds, and what an interesting and charming experience it was. It also spends a lot of time describing the birds' personalities, in very human-like ways! But of course it does. It wants to convince the reader that the birds are worth keeping alive.
The other information it provides is more haphazard. It nearly always takes the time to discuss habitats, nesting habits, and something of appearance, but the level of detail is wildly variable, and it's rarely sufficient that I would feel confident in identifying a bird based on the description. Sometimes the author attempts to convey what the bird's songs and calls sound like, but it's hopeless to give meaningful information on this through the medium of text, though it's clear when the author thinks it's particularly important for a bird that you know what it sounds like, and is really earnestly trying to help you out. Too bad the Merlin app didn't exist in 1889!
And it makes some very odd choices about how to organise its information. For example: its discussion of the different orders and families to which birds belong is.....in the section on chipping sparrows, more than 60 pages into the book. Then the classifications are mentioned on and off, inconsistently, until they're summarized as a whole in the section on thrushes at page 195. What the heck! It makes it clear that the expected use of the book is to read it front to back, rather than just to pick it up as a reference to figure out a particular bird you're seeing. Though the back does have some....mildly useful appendices for looking up birds by specific characteristic.
But the nesting habits and behaviour descriptions are actually nice to have (even if they're couched in flowery victorian nature-writing language) because modern field guides don't seem to tend to include that information, just details on appearance and a brief suggestion of habitat, with only occasional additional info. Modern field guides want to fit as many birds as possible into as pocket-sized a book as possible, and so they keep their text very short, and I do think this is too bad!
I also loved getting the insights into some of the old or more regional names for some of the birds, instead of just the official name you get in modern field guides! "Bee martin" for kingbird! "Chippy" for chipping sparrow! "Crow blackbird" for grackle! "Yellow hammer" and a whole collection of other options for the northern flicker! (in fact I had to go look this one up in Merlin using the description given for the yellow hammer to determine for sure which bird was being referred to, because "northern flicker" isn't among any of the names given for the bird in this book!)
It also has fun little bits of sass (for example, when it talks about the chipping sparrow's song, it says the bird has a "cheerful perseverance that would grace a better cause," lol) but sometimes in its efforts to personify the birds it's pretty mean. The author clearly doesn't think highly of flycatchers for example, and I felt very indignant. "All the disagreeable qualities of the flycatchers seem to centre in this bird," it says about the kingbird, and I'm just like HOW RUDE. HOW DARE YOU. YOU'RE SO WRONG.
At any rate I'm very glad that this book was written at the time it was for the purpose it was, and it was an enjoyable look into a different era of birding, despite its foibles!

The Flying Saucer Mystery
Hey do you like camping? Do you like aliens? Do you like treasure hunts? If you said yes to all three than this might be the game for you! @nancydrewnetwork
Inspired by The Flying Saucer Mystery(duh)
Mystery
Nancy and her friend’s all-expenses paid(by Carson Drew) camping trip is quickly derailed by rumors of strange encounters and long-lost treasure hidden deep in the Shawnee National Forest. Hopefully Nancy can solve the case before she gets abducted (and maybe she can have a fun vacation for once).
Friends
Ned Nickerson: Nancy’s boyfriend. Chemical Engineering major and star athlete at Emerson. This time he gets to help in person. His experience as a camp counselor and first aid will come in handy.
Bess Marvin: Longtime best friend and always reliable. She’s good at keeping the campers happy in tough times and knows more cutesy camp recipes than Pinterest. Actually, she might’ve stolen them all from Pinterest.
George Fayne: Other longtime best friend and outdoors enthusiast. She’s a useful friend to have both on the trail and for when your gadgets fail on you and you don’t know why.
Burt Eddleton: Best friend of Ned. Biology major at Emerson who seemingly can’t choose what to focus on exactly. He knows a lot about both wildlife and plants. Pretty good athlete and pretty chill dude. Kind of a Himbo. Proud duck Dad (Don’t worry Sparkles is with a chickensitter).
Dave Evans: Other best friend of Ned. Archaeology major at Emerson. He knows a lot about artifacts or at least he’s mostly talking about artifacts because Bess gets freaked out by the skeletal side of his interests. Pretty chill guy also might play Wonderwall if presented with a guitar.
Suspects
Blake Wilkinson: Co-owner and head guide of Happy Trails Camping Company. She’s the trail guide helping the group get through this vacation. She seems nice enough but she is way too serious about her job. Well maybe not too serious. How else can you explain the buyout offer she’s hiding from Amani? What else could she be hiding?
Amani Wilkinson: Blake’s wife and other co-owner of Happy Trails Camping Company. She prefers nature over business. In fact, she doesn’t seem at all interested in the company (Does Blake know?). She’s happy enough to show you around the forest. Hopefully she doesn’t leave you all alone out there. Just kidding, she would never do that. Right?
Shay Hernandez: Assistant trail guide and aspiring park ranger. Or so he says. He claims to be a college student at a local university, but won’t say what his major is. That’s okay, maybe he’s still deciding. However, he talks a lot about science. Not just biology or even ecology like you might expect from someone who spends most of his time in the outdoors. He talks about computer science and robotics too. Is it just the sign of a budding scientific mind? Or is it a sign of something else?
Sonny Joon: Nancy knows Sonny’s here for the aliens, but does she really know him enough to say that’s the only reason why he’s there? Or is she in for another.....adventure with him? I’m sorry Sonny fans but it fits.
Soffi Ziririan: The only one of the campers (besides Sonny) that doesn’t know that much about the area. Again or so she says. She’s an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast. She loves challenging herself with new challenges. Strangely, she didn’t give that much information to Blake or Amani when she signed up for the trip. She might just be a private person because that happens all the time...
Kole Morse: He’s a local, so it’s strange for him to be going on a guided trail experience. He knows the forest like the back of his hand, so why is he here? He claims it’s just for fun, but no one knows for sure. One thing that is for sure is that Kole is a true environmentalists. He doesn’t believe in the aliens, he thinks all the sightings are fake and going to negatively affect the environment. He not too keen on “people who don’t truly understand the forest” being in the forest. Whatever that means. How far is he willing to go to protect what he refers to as ‘his forest’?
Joseph “Old Joe” Austin: Native American man from the local Shawnee tribe, One of the oldest residents from around Shawnee National Forest. He lives in a cabin with his brother Sam and his dog Trixie. He’s also a shoe-in for the friendliest resident of the forest award. He’s welcoming and kind to all the campers that come through. He says he’s given up on finding his father’s treasure. Or has he?
Samuel “Sam” Austin: Old Joe’s younger brother. Unlike his brother, he’s quiet and likes to keep to himself. Old Joe just says he’s shy. Really, Nancy figures out that he’s deaf. Luckily she remembers a bit of sign language and that online dictionary the Hardy Boys text is a great bonus. He’s actually trying to find his dad’s treasure again. Although he seems innocent enough, Nancy doesn’t know how far he’ll go to get his dad’s treasure.
Phone Friends
Frank and Joe Hardy: They were supposed to go on the trip with the group, but Frank broke his leg during their last mystery so Burt and Dave took their spots. They are super bummed. Luckily Nancy can call them so they can live vicariously through her.
Dagny Silva: There’s treasure, here’s Dagny. Not actually there because she has better more certain treasure to track down, but she owes it to Nancy to occasionally answer her phone.
Ranger Maia Chikovani: A ranger of the national forest, asked Nancy to figure out what’s going on. She believes in aliens, but is a bit more worried about the impact their UFO may have on the environment.
Locations
Forest Trails and Clearing: There pretty straightforward. Trees and plants and stuff. There’s quite a few different locations, but can all be summed up by this title. Nancy has a map to keep track.
River appears next to some of the trail but not all of them.
Old Joe’s Cabin: It’s where he lives with his brother and dog.
Swamp: Where the UFO has been spotted. Coincidentally, the treasure is rumored to be near this location
Treasure’s real location: It’s not actually near the swamp. This location is only revealed after Nancy figures it out.
Time
Day/Night cycle. Time keeps on moving so your week may be more than a week depending on how long it takes for you to solve it.
Transportation
Horseback riding: For longer distances along the trails
Walking: For shorter distances and areas that the horses cannot go. Also for like around the camp and stuff. Nancy’s not riding the horse for a week straight that would just be weird.
Puzzles/Mini Games
Pitching a tent
Fishing
Building a fire
Cooking camp meals
Roasting marshmallows and making the perfect s’more
Mushroom picking: I’m enby I can’t not include mushrooms.
Decoding/Solving the clues Old Joe and Sam’s father left for them: This is a series of different puzzles, all at different times and with different purposes. They all fall under the same category so they’re being lumped. I imagine they would be a mixture of logic and clues that you find about the two brothers and around the forest itself.
Opening the treasure box: Simply one of those weirdly over-complicated puzzle boxes that everyone seems to have. You know the type.
Fixing the radio: The radio gets trashed with the rest of the camp and it’s up to Nancy to fix it
Lockpicking other campers’ locked private possesion: The usual
Flying the Spaceship: After Nancy and Ned get trapped in the spaceship, Nancy needs to figure out how to fly it before they crash!
Alien Dream World: Nancy and Ned are transported to an alien world by the spaceship. It’s so amazing it’s like a dream.
Finding Arrowheads: there’s a few old arrowheads scattered around. They’re old and don’t belong to anyone (at least not anymore). Mostly collected for fun.
Second Chances
Riding your horse into the swamp: Why?
Drown in the swamp: At least the water’s warm....it’s not worth it
Radio explodes: You shouldn’t have connected those wires
Crash the spaceship: Should’ve used the turn signal
Bear attack: like the alien attack but with bears
Alien attack: like the bear attack but with aliens
Setting yourself on fire: Stop, drop, and roll!
Ate the wrong mushroom: you clearly picked a toadstool, not a mushroom. (It’s a joke don’t get technical lol)
Additional Features/Notes
This is only loosely based off Shawnee National Forest. I cannot guarantee the presence of small swamps or aliens. Also the pictures and everything might not be perfectly accurate. It’s just aesthetic, it doesn’t have to take place in Shawnee. I just needed a name. It can change.
Communication is different with Sam than with the other characters due to the fact that he is deaf. He uses sign language (that is automatically translated). Nancy’s speech is silent for his conversations, she’s using sign language too but you can’t see her hands (because you’re not really supposed to talk when you’re using sign language. Also Sam only “speaks” to people who can also use sign language.
Speaking of communication, I know we all like our phone friends, but cell signal is unreliable on this trip. Nancy won’t always be able to get in touch with her contacts so she’ll have to rely on her in-person friends. This time they can be assigned to certain tasks as well as provide hints. Everyone has their own specialized hints that the other characters won’t know a thing about.
Just for the sake of clarification, most people in the area do know about the treasure left by Mr.Austin. Most people don’t believe in it anymore, some believe that it belongs to the brothers (if it does exist), and other think it’s finder’s keepers.
P.S. Sorry for breaking Frank’s leg but Joe gets hurt the twice as much as he does so it’s only fair that he sometimes it’s his fault that they can’t go camping. tbh with their mysteries they camp like once a week, they have nothing to complain about.

Young Justice: Deathly Weapons  - Prologue: For Humanity as a Whole

Prologue: For Humanity as a Whole
On the surface the meeting would seem to be quite above board.
It was late afternoon.  The sky outside showed the faintest trace of gold, the sun traced its way towards the horizon.   Light seeped through the glass windows, illuminating the meeting room high among the skyscrapers of New York.  A plate of pastries and two emptied coffee cups occupied the centre of the table, surrounded by immaculately laid out manila folders, business contracts and blueprints. Plans were discussed, prices negotiated and deals made.  Advanced access to a prototype for a discount on a large software package.   A contract for the transfer of staff members between the research and development laboratories of their respective companies.    A 10 percent share in a company in exchange for additional project grants.   Polite small talk.  A recent win by the Green Bay Packers.  Coming and goings in the city of Metropolis.
All in all it was a typical meeting.  Just two powerful businessmen with the potential for joint projects.  All completely above board.
But anyone who kept their eyes and ears open to the whispers of the respective underworlds would know that this meeting was definitely anything but ordinary.
As they regarded each other across the conference table, both men understood that the charade was drawing to a close.   Signing off the final contract, the older of the pair decided to broach the topic.
“I must admit to being surprised Mr. Luthor. While I am honoured that you would deign to meet with me in person, New York seems quite aways for someone as busy as yourself to come for mere bonds and shares.”
“Not that much further than a trip from Wisconsin, Mr. Masters.   And I always value a chance to meet my esteemed colleagues.”
“But of course.”
A short expectant silence gathered in the room before the other man continued.
“Now that you mention it, I do have one more… proposition, before we finish.  Outside of my own personal businesses, I belong to a small, selective cohort of… influential individuals.   My colleagues and I wish to benefit mankind.   We envision an evolved, enlightened humanity.  A species fit to stand tall, to take our rightful place in the greater cosmos.”
“An admirable aim indeed.  And where does a mere man such as I belong in this grand vision?”
“You see, Mr. Masters, throughout history few things have puzzled humanity more than life itself.   The mystery of our own mortality and… what comes after.  What say you?”
“‘The last enemy that shall be defeated is death’. But I’m unsure as to why you think I can help with this puzzle.”
“From what I have heard you are somewhat of an expert in this… particular field.”
“I dabbled a little.  It intrigued me when I was younger, but after an… unfortunate accident… I decided that I would be best served turning my attentions elsewhere. A profitable choice, as you can see.”
“Quite understandable.   But you do have information.”
“And?”“And we’d like to propose a deal.  A contract of sorts.”
From the briefcase at his side, Luthor withdrew a thin black file, sliding it delicately across the table.   The elder opened it curiously, raising an eyebrow at the contents.   A photograph of an attractive woman with cropped auburn hair featured prominently.  He carefully examined the text that accompanied the image, eyes widening slightly before he regained his composure.
“You are a lucky man Mr. Masters. Blessed with opportunities that come to only a rare few.   But there was always one opportunity that evaded you - the greatest of them all.   We would offer you that opportunity.   A second chance… with a few undesirable variables removed.”
The grey-haired businessman frowned thoughtfully as he contemplated the contents of the folder.  It was a hugely valuable offer.  Once in a lifetime perhaps.
“And in return?”
Lex smiled thinly. “Information”
Masters nodded to himself, seemingly reaching a conclusion.
“The beings you seek are… elusive.  Powerful and mysterious, but difficult to find.  They reside within their own plane and the rifts that form between our worlds are few and rarely last more than a moment; hardly long enough to support an expedition.  But there is another option.”
From his breast pocket Masters withdrew a slim smartphone, calling an image of two humanoid figures onto the screen.
“A rare breed.  These are the only two I have encountered; possibly the only two in existence.   Perhaps more useful to your research as they closely resemble humans and favour life on our side of the veil.   Needless to say they can be energetic, powerful, wilful and supremely uncooperative. I can provide you with some of the equipment needed to take them into captivity.  The government’s paranormal investigation unit may also be of service.   Not the field agents –they are notoriously gung-ho – but certain members of the research division might be persuaded… for the right price of course.”
“And we will have your full co-operation in this?”
“Naturally.   I will provide you with whatever you desire, be it within my power.”
“Then we are agreed.”  Luthor extended his hand, smiling as Masters clasped it with a firm cool grip. “To a successful endeavour.”
The elder man smiled thinly in return before pausing. “If I could ask a favour?”
Luthor raised a brow at the request.
“It’s nothing serious.  Forgive an old man’s sentimentality but once you have the beings in your custody…   You may do whatever you wish with the female, I have no interest in her. However, the male was the first of his kind that I encountered and, though he is wild, I will admit to having developed a certain fondness for the boy.  So I would ask that, once you have discovered what you need, you would allow me to take possession of him; that is, if he is still in serviceable condition.”
Lex nodded.  “An interesting request. We will consider it.”
“That’s all I can ask, old friend.”
Luthor’s phone chimed gently.  “I’m sorry, but I have another appointment to keep.”  He smiled apologetically at the older man as he placed files back into his dark case.  “It was a pleasure meeting you Mr.. Masters. I’m sure we’ll be in touch soon.”
“I assure you Mr.. Luthor, the pleasure was mine.”
Vlad turned towards the window as his enhanced hearing detected the departure of the elevator from his floor.   The view was truly spectacular.  Looking down at the black folder in his hands, Masters had to admit that the pieces had fallen into place perfectly.  Only three things in life had escaped his grasp and within the space of a business meeting two were practically in the palm of his hand.  Not that everything was guaranteed to work out. He had no illusions about Luthor’s capacity to double-cross him.  But while Lex may stand on par with Vladimir Masters, and occasionally be capable of outwitting a certain blue boy scout, he was a far cry from playing in the same league as Vlad Plasmius.  It really was too bad that the existence of a third ‘rare ghost’ had slipped his mind during their talk. And as for his little badger…
He smirked.  Luthor and his ‘associates’ were playing exactly into his hands.  No doubt Daniel would eventually come to him seeking protection from his pursuers.  And if not, well there was a high chance that his new colleagues would agree to relinquish the boy into his custody.   After all, he could be very persuasive.
The sun dropped below the horizon, sending red and orange rays across the city.   Taking in the skyline, Vlad allowed a true, cruel smile to claim his face.  No trick of the evening light could disguise the scarlet glow in the businessman’s usually blue eyes.
Now, if only he could get the Packers on side.

YouTube SEO: Tips to Optimize Videos to Gain Top Results
Tumblr media
Not more than a decade ago, inbound marketing was introduced as a brand new concept. Marketers were starting to realize that they just can’t go publishing a sheer amount of content online – they also need to produce high-quality content and then optimize it in ways that made it as visible as possible across search engines.
There was also a time when content was confined to a text-only format, which of course isn’t the case anymore.
Today an all-encompassing content strategy comprises text-based content such as blogs, articles, and eBooks to multimedia such as videos, podcasts, and other visual assets.
However, the first one, i.e., the videos, are still flourishing. In fact, as per reports, approximately half of the marketers around the world have begun investing more in YouTube compared to all the other marketing channels available to them.
As the other content formats continue to grow, the need to optimize them for search is also on the rise. And when it comes to videos, YouTube, the second largest search engine and a top-rated video distribution platform, is one of the most influential places to start with.
That being said, a major question arises – how does YouTube SEO work?
How can YouTube channel owners optimize their videos to rank better on the search and gain top results?
That’s precisely what this blog will discuss. Here are a few proven YouTube SEO tips that will help you get started. Let’s begin!
Insert a Target Keyword in Your Video File
Just the way you use an SEO tool to pick out the target keywords that you want your written content to focus on, video content is no exception.
As soon as you identify your main or primary keyword, the first place where you should insert it is in your video file name, even before you publish it on YouTube!
Why? Because YouTube can’t literally “watch” your videos to determine their relevance to your target keyword(s). And as you continue to read this blog, you will find out that after publishing a video, there are hardly any places where you can safely enter your keyword on your video’s viewing page. However, YouTube can read your video file name and all the code that accompanies it once it is published.
Keeping that in mind, change your “video_ad_Final004.mp4” video file name and rename it by adding your target keyword in it. There’s nothing to feel awkward about; almost all of us have been there, done that in the course of post-production.
For example, if your main keyword is “cooking tips,” then your video file name should be “cooking-tips,” accompanied by your chosen video file type. Some of the most common video file types compatible with YouTube are .mp4, .mov, .wmv, etc.
Include Your Keyword Naturally in the Video Title
When users perform a search for videos, the first thing that they see is the video’s title. Usually, that’s what determines whether the user will click on your video to watch it or not, which is why your video’s title shouldn’t be just persuasive but also clear and succinct.
Even though your target keyword plays a significant role in your video’s title, it would be a lot more helpful if the title is a close match to what the user wants to see. As per recent research, videos that have an exact keyword match in their title only have a bit of an edge over videos that don’t.
Therefore, inserting your target keyword in your video titles might help it rank for that particular keyword. Still, the relationship between keyword-rich titles and search rankings is not invariably a solid one. Nevertheless, optimizing your video titles for your target keywords is a good idea as long as it fits naturally in the title and conveys what the audience will be seeing in this video.
Last but not least, try to keep your video titles as short as possible to avoid them from getting cut off in the SERPs. The best practice is to keep it within a 60-70-character limit.
Optimize Your Video Description
While YouTube provides a video description limit of about 1000 characters according to Google, and it’s fine if you decide to take up all that space, using it all doesn’t really make sense. Because the viewer probably came there to watch your video, not to read an article.
However, even if you decide to go with a longer description, remember that YouTube will only show the initial 2-3 sentences, roughly estimated to approximately 100 characters. If a user wishes to read the rest of the description, they’ll have to click “show more” to expand the section. Therefore, it is highly advisable to include all the crucial information, call-to-action, or links in the initial lines only.
Now considering the video optimization, it won’t hurt to include a brief summary of the video, particularly for those users who can’t watch it with sound on. Having said that, as per a study, there is no definite connection between a description optimized for a specific term and the rankings for that keyword.
However, this doesn’t mean you should discard optimized descriptions at once as they help your videos to show up in the “Suggested Videos” sidebar, which is a prominent traffic source for many YouTube channels.
Tag Your Videos With Popular Keywords Relevant to Your Topic
YouTube Creator Academy itself recommends the creators to use tags to tell the essence of their video to the users. However, by doing so, you aren’t just passing on this information to the users but also to the platform itself. YouTube uses tags to comprehend your video’s content as well as context.
In this way, YouTube deciphers how to connect your videos to other similar videos, which thus helps expand your video’s reach. However, be wise in picking your tags. Do not use an unrelated tag just because you assume it will help you acquire more views. This is frowned upon, and Google can even penalize you for it. In addition to this, just like your video descriptions, start with your main keywords and use a good mix of common and long-tail keywords.
Categorize Your Video Content
When uploading a video, besides the other options such as adding video titles, descriptions, and tags, you can spot a section “Advanced Settings.” Click on it to categorize your videos.
Categorizing your videos is just another way of grouping them with similar content on YouTube so that it lands up in multiple playlists and gets more exposure to more viewers that fall within your target audience.
However, it may sound simple now, but in reality, it is quite tricky. YouTube Creator Academy advises the channel owners to put some thought into this and follow a thorough process to ascertain which videos belong to which categories.
Tumblr media
Upload a Custom Thumbnail for Your Video’s Result Link
Thumbnails are the images that users see beside your video’s link on the results page. Together with the title, the video thumbnail also conveys to the users what the video is all about; therefore, it impacts the total clicks and views your content receives.
YouTube also offers auto-generated thumbnail options once you upload the video. While you can find it pretty easy just to choose one of those, it is highly recommended to use a custom thumbnail image for your videos. Moreover, reports also suggest that most of the best performing YouTube videos have custom thumbnail images. The ideal thumbnail images should have a resolution of 1280×720 with a minimum of 640 pixels width and 16:9 aspect ratio and should be saved under the 2MB limit and in the .jpg, .png, or .gif formats. Following these guidelines will help make sure that your thumbnail shows up as the same high-quality image across different viewing platforms.
However, keep in mind that you can only upload a custom thumbnail if your YouTube account is verified. Therefore, be sure to complete your verification process with YouTube right away if you haven’t already to unlock additional features.
Add Subtitles and Closed Captions Using an SRT File
Similar to the most text-based optimization we have discussed earlier, adding subtitles and closed captions can help boost your YouTube SEO by highlighting the main keywords.
To insert subtitles and closed captions in your videos, you need to upload a supported text transcript or timed subtitles file. However, for adding closed captions, you can also enter the transcript directly into your video so that it auto-syncs with it.
The process of adding subtitles is also quite similar; however, you get the option to limit the total amount of text that you want to show up. To add either, go to your “Video Manager” then click on “Videos.” Locate the video to which you want to add subtitles or closed captions, and then click on the drop-down arrow present beside the edit icon. Click on “Subtitles/CC” and then choose how you want to add subtitles or closed captions.
Boost Your Channel’s Viewership With Cards and End Screens
Cards
Have you ever noticed a tiny white circular icon with an “i” in the middle displaying in the corner of your screen or a semi-transparent text bar asking you to subscribe while watching a YouTube video? These are called cards.
Cards can be described as preformatted notifications that get displayed on desktop and mobile devices, which you can set up to advertise your own brand and other videos published on your YouTube channel.
YouTube lets users add up to five cards to one video. There are six types of cards – channel cards, Fundraiser cards, link cards, fan funding cards, video or playlist cards, and poll cards.
End Screens
Just like cards, end screens also show similar information. However, as you might have guessed by now, these aren’t displayed until the video is over. Plus, end screens are a little more visually detailed inherently.
Adding end screens will depend upon the type of platform you want to design them for and the multiple content types YouTube has allowed for them.
The important thing to keep in mind here is that YouTube is continuously testing end screens in an attempt to optimize the user experience, so there may be times when the end screens you have nominated don’t show up. Therefore consider all these factors before determining whether you should use cards or end screens.
Conclusion
Although these tips might appear a little too complex and time-consuming, you need to remember that over the past couple of years, people have increasingly started spending more time watching YouTube, whether, on their TVs, laptops, or mobiles, and this “time” has more than doubled.
There is an audience present there yet undiscovered waiting for you to tap into, so when you optimize your videos for YouTube, you are actually increasing your chances of getting discovered by them.
So keep creating engaging videos, take time to perform thorough keyword research, implement these tips, and promote your videos as much as possible to boost its reach. You may also take the help of some free or paid YouTube SEO tools available online.

There are three core metrics that search engines evaluate to determine the quality of a site and how it should rank, however:
•Links - Backlinks utilizing websites play an integral purpose in pinpointing the being ranked of an internet site in Google along with search engines. The main cause truly being, a hyperlink is visible to be a vote of excellent from other online sites, seeing that site owners are improbable to link to other websites which are usually of sub-standard. Web sites that receive back links from many other places build expert (recognized as "PageRank" in Google) inside the eyes of engines like google , specifically if the sites which are backlinking for them are itself authoritative.

Stop shaming recipe bloggers for writing a lot
Tumblr media
Every so often, someone will act very angry online because a recipe they clicked on has "too much text." They wanted to make mushroom ravioli, but instead had to scroll through a bunch of words about what mushroom ravioli means to a blogger's family. Boring!
It's true that many (if not most) food bloggers write long narratives preceding their recipes. Sometimes, they explain how they developed the recipe. Other times, they share why they chose to post this particular food, or explain the modifications they've made to accommodate family members with dietary restrictions. They might share a story about the dish providing them comfort in a difficult time, or how cooking the dish with a loved one healed a broken relationship. Food is personal, after all; it comes with stories.
So why do so many people rush to mock them?
Cadry Nelson, a food blogger who runs the vegan website Cadry's Kitchen, includes narratives with her recipes regularly. (She's also written an essay about recipe narratives.) This is partially because she wanted to document her transition to veganism, the context in which she developed much of her work. In doing so, she'd create a reference point for readers curious about going vegan themselves.
"I was trying a lot of produce I’d never had before, as well as re-creating old familiar flavors but without meat, dairy, and eggs," she explained in an interview. "I didn’t have many other friends who were vegan at that point."

This summer it will have been 9 years since we loaded up all of our belongings into a U-Haul & moved across country from Los Angeles back to Iowa, where David & I were born & raised. On the way, we stopped at FUD restaurant in Kansas City. The restaurant is gone now. But they were known for their raw dishes & jackfruit recipes. I especially loved their jackfruit Reuben. I figured it was high time I made my own version. The jackfruit is pink from beets. It’s topped with homemade #vegan Thousand Island dressing, @goldminenaturalfoodco garlic kraut, and beautiful marbled rye from @newpioneercoop. Get the recipe on the blog. Sharing this information doesn't just benefit her readers, either. It also helps her secure a place in the saturated food blog realm. "Through these posts, I’ve gotten to know bloggers’ flavor preferences too," Nelson said. By sharing stories on blogs, people get to know the types of foods [and] flavors that specific recipe creators enjoy. You figure out who is a good match for your own palate."
So why do people have such an issue with people writing about their own food? It seems to come down to convenience. Generally, perturbed readers complain that it takes too long for them to scroll down to the recipe itself.
Historian Kevin Kruse, for example, tweeted his disdain for recipe narratives last weekend: "Hey, cooking websites?" he wrote. "I don't really need a thousand words about how you discovered the recipe or the feelings it evoked for you ... I'm trying to feed my family. No need to curate the experience for me."
SEE ALSO: Why the '15-minute recipe' sets you up to fail
"GIMME THE RECIPE HON MY SCROLL FINGER HURTS," tweeted Chelsea Peretti last November.
Admittedly, it is irritating when anything is difficult to find on the internet, especially when we've come to expect an easy-as-pie user experience from every app and every website. It can feel like a slog to scroll through paragraphs of text when all you want is a list of ingredients.
But the thing to interrogate here isn't necessarily whether blocks of text are annoying — it's why people think these particular blocks of text don't deserve to exist.
Nelson thinks there's an element of sexism to the critiques she sees about recipe writing. Home cooking is still a deeply gendered pursuit, and writers whose work centers on home cooking are still perceived as less professional, less valuable, and less worthy voices.  "The feeling seems to be that they don't think these writers have something of value to offer," Nelson said.
There's been high-profile backlash to the backlash against recipe narratives. After Kruse's tweet, Smitten Kitchen creator Deb Perelman tweeted a thread on the matter, encouraging recipe writers to "write as long and as in-depth as your heart desires about recipes and anything else they drum up in your mind and ignore anyone who says you shouldn't."
1. These websites are free to read and free to not read. /3
— deb perelman (@debperelman) February 16, 2019
2. It's mostly women telling these stories. Congratulations, you've found a new, not particularly original, way to say "shut up and cook." [I just don't see don't see the same pushback when male chefs write about their wild days or basically anything. Do you?] /4
— deb perelman (@debperelman) February 16, 2019
3. Not that you asked, but I love context, both in the recipe's development and the way it knits into your life. I wish more people who cooked got to tell their stories. /5
— deb perelman (@debperelman) February 16, 2019
Like Nelson, she also called out detractors' casual sexism. "Congratulations, you've found a new, not particularly original, way to say 'shut up and cook,'" she tweeted. "I just don't see don't see the same pushback when male chefs write about their wild days or basically anything. Do you?"
"I wish more people who cooked got to tell their stories," she added.
There's also a more technical element at play where recipe narratives are concerned: search engine optimization (SEO). Recipe bloggers want to catch the attention of the illusive Google algorithm —  and, ideally, land their recipe on the coveted first page — so they must demonstrate "authority" in their field. This means more comprehensive content, which is really hard to pull off with a concise recipe alone. (Tons of people will be using the phrase "apple crumble," for example, but only you can write your own story about it.)
"When I’m writing, I try to tell a story that has a hook as well as please[s] the Google algorithm," Nelson said. "I do keyword research ... I see what kinds of questions people have around the topic, and look for ways to anticipate their problems, and answer their questions, so that they will have a successful cooking experience. Lately, I’ve been adding more step-by-step pictures of how to make dishes, as well as videos, because Google says that readers want that."
Even though she's noticed people criticizing lengthy posts, Nelson maintains that writing a lot — authoritatively, of course — is what's going to get eyes on her recipes. "People say they want shorter posts, but Google values information," she said. "It’s hard to give information without using some words along the way."
SEO and marketing experts agree that Nelson's approach is a smart one, especially in such a saturated landscape. "Because a recipe usually consists of a listing of ingredients and steps, it’s often very difficult for a search engine to discern what this article is trying to convey," Pete Herrnreiter, who is the VP of digital strategy at The Motion Agency, explained via email. "By developing a richer upfront with background on the dish ... it [helps to] define the post."
Content strategist Abby Sanders, who works for Von Mack Agency, also emphasized the advantages of differentiating one's recipe from the pack. "These days, search engines are pretty effective at determining whether a page can serve as an 'expert source' on a specific query," she said. "So any additional content that includes certain keywords, as long as it's coherent and well-written, will improve that page's ranking."

Who'd have thought two such aggressively wholesome ingredients could taste so exceptional together? To be honest, not me. But we come back to this again and again whenever we are looking for a hearty vegetarian meal because it tastes like a luxury, not a compromise, especially heaped on grilled bread. [Spinach and Chickpeas on smittenkitchen.com or linked in profile]
A post shared by smitten kitchen (@smittenkitchen) on Feb 19, 2019 at 9:10am PST
As a caveat, Sanders mentioned, there are "plenty of other factors that play a role in rankings, such as domain authority, links to that page, and the list goes on. But from a sheer content standpoint, it does make good sense for a food blogger to write some extra, interesting copy around their subject."
So, fine. Finding a list of chili ingredients would be easier if we didn't have to scroll. But recipe bloggers are writers, and they have stories to share that are poignant, funny, and valuable — even if you (and I) don't love every single one you read. And if you really don't like the narratives? There are plenty of places for you to find story-free recipes online, though you might have to pay for a subscription to see some of them. Also, cookbooks exist.
"My food blog is my own. It’s my creative space. I spend a lot of time testing the recipes, taking photographs, making videos, and writing my stories," Nelson said. "If people aren’t interested in any aspect, so be it."
"My blog is Cadry’s Kitchen. It’s literally the place where I cook," she added. "I don’t know why I would write myself out of it."

Original Post from Talos Security Author:
Vitor Ventura authored this post.
Executive summary
Cisco Talos has uncovered a new Android-based campaign targeting Australian financial institutions. As the investigation progressed, Talos came to understand that this campaign was associated with the “ChristinaMorrow” text message spam scam previously spotted in Australia.
Although this malware’s credential-harvest mechanism is not particularly sophisticated, it does have an advanced self-preservation mechanism. Even though this is not a traditional remote access tool (RAT), this campaign seems to target mainly private users. Aside from the credential stealing, this malware also includes features like the theft of users’ contact list, collecting phone numbers associated names, and files and photos on the device. But that doesn’t mean companies and organizations are out of the woods. They should still be on the lookout for these kinds of trojans, as the attackers could target corporate accounts that contain large amounts of money.
The information collected by the malware and the control over the victim’s mobile device allows their operators to perform more complex social engineering attacks. A motivated attacker can use this trojan to harvest usernames and passwords and then reuse them to login into the organization’s system where the victim works. This is a good example where two-factor authentication based on SMS would fail since the attacker can read the SMS. Corporations can protect themselves from these side-channel attacks by deploying client-based two-factor authentication, such as Duo Security.
One of the most impressive features of this malware is its resilience. If the command and control (C2) server is taken down, the malicious operator can still recover the malware control by sending SMS messages directly to the infected devices. This makes the taking down and recovery of the network much harder and poses a considerable challenge for defenders.
The campaign
The malware’s primary infection vector is SMS. Just like the old-school mail worms that used the victim’s address book to select the next victims, this banking trojan’s activation cycle includes the exfiltration of the victim’s address book. The trojan will receive instructions from the C2 to spread.
Spread command from C2.
The victim receives the command sendSMSMass. Usually, this message targets four or five people at a time. The body contains a message and URL. Again, the concept is that new victims are more likely to install the malware if the SMS comes from someone they know. When a victim tries to access the URL in the SMS body, the C2 will check if the mobile device meets the criteria to receive the malware (see infrastructure section). If the device does not meet the criteria, it won’t receive any data, otherwise, it will be redirected to a second server to receive a copy of the malware to install on their device.
The domain on this campaign was registered on Jan. 19, 2019. However, Talos has identified that was used at least since November 2018. During the investigation, Talos was also able to determine that the same infrastructure has been used to deploy similar campaigns using different versions of the malware.
Distribution of victims.
Talos assess with high confidence that this campaign is targeting Australian financial institutions based on several factors. Our Umbrella telemetry shows that the majority of the request comes from Australia and the majority of the phone numbers infected have the international indicative for Australia. Finally, the specific overlays are designed for Australian financial institutions, and Australia is one of the geographic regions that is accepted by the C2.
DNS queries distribution over time
The campaign doesn’t seem to be growing at a fast pace. Our data shows, on average, about three requests per hour to the drop host. This request is only made upon installation, but there is no guarantee that it will be installed. This data, when analyzed with the number of commands to send SMSs that Talos received during the investigation, lead us to conclude that the malicious operator is aggressively spreading the malware, but that doesn’t seem to result in the same number of new infections.
Examples of the overlays available to the malware.
Above, you can see examples of the injections that distributed to the malware as part of this specific campaign.
While doing our investigation we were able to identify other malware packages with different names. Some of these might have been used on old campaigns or where already prepared for new campaigns.
Malware technical details
During our investigation, researchers uncovered a malware known as “Gustuff.” . Given the lack of indicators of compromise, we decided to check to see if this was the same malware we had been researching. Our Threat Intelligence and Interdiction team found the Gustuff malware being advertised in the Exploit.in forum as a botnet for rent. The seller, known as “bestoffer,” was, at some point, expelled from the forum.
Gustuff advertising screenshot
The companies advertised in the image above were from Australia, which matches up with the campaign we researched. The screenshots provided by the author align with the advertised features and the features that we discovered while doing our analysis.
Admin panel
The administration panel show the application configuration, which matches the commands from the C2.
Country selection
The administration console screenshots also show the ability to filter the results by country. In this case, “AU” is the code shown, which is Australia.
Based on this information, Talos assesses with high confidence that the malware is the same and this is, in fact, the Gustuff malware.
Design
In the manifest, the malware requests a large number of permissions. However, it doesn’t request permissions like BIND_ADMIN. To perform some of its activities, the malware does not need high privileges inside the device, as we will explain ahead.
Permissions in the manifest
This malware is designed to avoid detection and analysis. It has several protections in place, both in the C2 and the malware’s code. The code is not only obfuscated, but also packed. The packer, besides making the static analysis more complex, will break the standard debugger.
Manifest activity declaration
Class list inside the dex file
The main malware classes are packed, to a point where the class defined in the manifest has a handler for the MAIN category that does not exist in the DEX file.
Error when trying to debug the malware using the Android Studio IDE.
One of the side effects of this packer is the inability of Android Studio IDE to debug the code. This happens because the IDE executes the code from the Android debug bridge (ADB) by calling the activity declared in the manifest by name. Since the class does not exist at startup, the application does not run on the debugger. Although Talos analyzed the unpacked version of the code, the packer analysis is beyond the scope of this post.
Check code for emulators
As part of its defense, the malware payload first checks for emulators to prevent analysis on sandboxes. It checks for different kinds of emulators, including QEMU, Genymotion, BlueStacks and Bignox. If the malware determines that is not running on an emulator, it then performs additional checks to ensure that it won’t be detected.
Code to check the existence of SafetyNet Google API.
It also checks if the Android SafetyNet is active and reporting back to the C2. This helps the C2 define what actions it can do before being detected on the mobile device.
List of anti-virus packages that are checked.
The payload goes a long way to protect itself and checks for anti-virus software installed on the mobile device. The trojan uses the Android Accessibility API to intercept all interactions between the user and the mobile device.
The Android developer documentation describes the accessibility event class as a class that “represents accessibility events that are seen by the system when something notable happens in the user interface. For example, when a button is clicked, a view is focused, etc.”
For each interaction, the malware will check if the generator is a package that belongs to the anti-virus list, the malware will abuse another feature of the Accessibility API. There is a function called “performGlobalAction” with the description below.
Android documentation describes that function as “a global action. Such an action can be performed at any moment, regardless of the current application or user location in that application. For example, going back, going home, opening recents, etc.”
The trojan calls this function with the action GLOBAL_ACTION_BACK, which equals the pressing of the back button on the device, thus canceling the opening of the anti-virus application. The same event interception is used to place the webview overlay when the user tries to access the targeted applications, allowing it to display its overlay, thus intercepting the credentials.
The beaconing only starts after the application is installed and removed from the running tasks.
Beaconing information.
The ID is generated for each installation of the malware, while the token remains unique. Some of the checks performed previously are immediately sent to the C2, like the safetyNet, admin and defaultSMSApp. The beaconing is sent to the URL http:///api/v2/get.php with an interval of 60 seconds.
Answer from the C2.
The C2 will check the country field, if it’s empty or if the country is not targeted, it will reply with a “Unauthorized” answer. Otherwise, it will return a JSON encoded “OK,” and if that is the case, the command to be executed.
List of available commands.
The command names are self-explanatory. The command will be issued as an answer to the beaconing, and the result will be returned to the URL http:///api/v2/set_state.php
Example of the command “changeServer.”
The commands are issued in a JSON format, and the obfuscation is part of the malware code and not added by the packer. It is a custom obfuscation partly based on base85 encoding, which is in itself unusual, in malware. Base85 encoding is usually used on pdf and postscript documentsThe configuration of the malware is stored in custom preferences files, using the same obfuscation scheme.
Activation cycle
As we have explained above, the malware has several defence mechanisms. Beside the obfuscation and the environment checks, the malware also has some interesting anti-sandbox mechanisms.
After installation, the user needs to run the application. The user needs to press the “close” button to finish the installation. However, this won’t close the application, it will send it to the background, instead. While the application is in the background, although the service is already running, the beaconing will not start. The beaconing will only start after the application is removed from the background, ultimately stopping it. This will be the trigger for the service to start the beaconing.
As mentioned previously, the beaconing is done every 60 seconds. However, no command is received from the C2 until the inactiveTime field (see beaconing information image above) has at least the value of 2000000. This time resets every time the user performs some activity.
After the checks, the malware becomes active, but first, it goes through seven steps, each one calling a different command:
uploadPhoneNumbers: Exfiltrates all phone numbers that are in the contact list. Aside from the natural value of phone numbers associated with the names of their owners. Using the SMS has an initial infection vector is another possibility for the exfiltration. One of the purposes of the exfiltration of the contact list is to use them to attack other victims using SMS as an initial vector.
checkApps: Asks the malware to see if the packages sent as parameters are installed. The malware contains a list of 209 packages hardcoded in its source code. However, the C2 can send an updated list.
List of packages received from the C2.
adminNumber: Setup of the admin phone number. In our case, the administrator phone number belongs to a mobile network in Australia.
Phone number for administration.
changeServer: At this point, the malware changes the C2 to a new host, even though the API and communication protocol continues to be the same.
Change server request.
The URL’s for the new server is obfuscated, preventing easy network identification.
changeActivity: This command will set up the webview to overlay any of the target activities.
changeActivity command.
The webview injects are not hosted on the C2, they are hosted on a completely different server.
params: This command allows the malicious operator to change configuration parameters in the malware. During this stage of the activation cycle, the malware increases the beaconing time to avoid detection.
Command to change the beaconing.
changeArchive: The final command of the activation cycle is the download of an archive. This archive is stored in the same host has the webviews. The archive is a ZIP containing several files, which is protected with a password.
Change archive command.
After this activation cycle, the malware will start the collection of information activities and dissemination.
Malicious activity
Once the activation cycle ends, the trojan will start its malicious activities. These activities depend on the device configuration. Depending if the victim has any of the targeted applications, the anti-virus installed or geographic location, the malware can harvest credentials from the targeted applications, exfiltrate all personal information or simply use the victim’s device to send SMS to spread the trojan
The malware deploys overlaying webviews to trick the user and eventually steal their login credentials. These are adapted to the information the malicious operator wants to retrieve. The first webview overlay is created on step 6 of the activation cycle.
Pin request overlay.
This overlay asks the user to provide their PIN to unlock the mobile device, which is immediately exfiltrated to the C2. The last step of the activation cycle is the download of a password-protected ZIP file. This file contains all HTML, CSS and PNG files necessary to create overlays. Talos found 189 logos from banks to cryptocurrency exchanges inside the archive, all of which could be targeted. The archive also contained all the necessary codes to target Australian financial institutions. The overlays are activated by the malicious operator using the command changeActivity, as seen on step 5 of the activation cycle. In this case, we can see that the HTML code of the overlay is stored in the C2 infrastructure. However, since the archive that is downloaded into the device has all the necessary information and the malicious actor has access to the device via SMS, the malicious operator can keep its activity even without the C2 infrastructure.
Infrastructure
The infrastructure supporting this malware is rather complex. It is clear that on all stages there are at least two layers.
The infrastructure has several layers, although not being very dynamic, still has several layers each one providing some level of protection. All the IP addresses belong to the same company Hetzner, an IP-hosting firm in Germany.

Best Business Cards in Town
Your business cards is the first point of contact with the organization; you need to feel connected to it and  urge the receiver to find out more about your products and services. One of the best approach is to get a simple and well-designed business card created. Here are a few tips to for creating stunning business cards:
1) Know your objective:
You  need to filter the data that has to be added to your business card. Ensure your name, designation, tag-line and logo plainly shown. You need to provide sufficient details in the card without making it look clumsy. The web address, email, and phone number are fundamental. If you are running out of space, you can remove the address from the card.
It must be Readable
If you have too much of data to add, you might think of reducing the font size. However, small font might be difficult to be read. It is better not to go below 8pt. Additionally, bear in mind about the text style itself: allow it to look simple and professional, don’t be tempted to use Comic Sans, or opt for calligraphic textual style which is difficult to unravel.
QR Codes
Another method to save space is to design a QR Code for your business card. You can add a great deal of information on a business card, without influencing it to look jumbled. You can generate QR codes online without spending a single penny.
Brilliant or Plain?
The dark colors when used effectively can influence a business to look more prominent.  This trick is majorly used by creative businesses  to come out with uniques and attractive designs. However, a simple card is always acceptable and looks elegant.
Embossing:
5) If you’re worried about a high contrast card looking dull, try to emboss the words. It gives a 3D look that will uplift the look of your business card and make it look more elegant.
Embellishing additionally makes the card more tactile. Research has demonstrated that connecting with more than one sense at any given moment can enhance review of a question, so individuals would probably recall your business.
The colour choice:
It’s vital to design your business card that syncs with the company’s branding. If you do not have any rules to be followed, you can go ahead with your creativity and use the colors as you want. In any case, be mindful so as to pick corresponding hues – contrasting colors might look silly on a business card. If everything fails, you can take the help of color matching tools or seek experts’ advice.
7) Images talk louder than words:
This rule is applicable to business cards as well. AGreed, you need space to fill the data, however, you can spare some space to add visuals too. The image could be of your product or anything that is relevant to your business. Or, on the other hand, put your organization logo on the back of the card. Whatever you do, don’t leave it empty. It is assumed that people don’t look at the back of the card however, it isn’t true. Simply consider how frequently you’ve been handed  a card, and you turned it to check…
Borders and bleeds:
Avoid using borders in your card:
This is for a simply handy reason – regardless of how much attention is given, printing is never 100% totally precise. A flawlessly symmetrical verge on your screen may turn out unbalanced, on account of moment developments in the printing machine. Printers suggest leaving a 3mm Bleed – a zone an indistinguishable shading from the foundation – around the edges of your card.
Paper Thickness
10) Thicker cards are said to be more costly, influencing your business to look more professional. A business cards printed on paper more slender than 300gsm look and feel rather thin, which can influence them to feel tasteless and shoddy. Take a stab at thinking about your card as you would a handshake – no one enjoys a limp handshake, so for what reason would they like a limp business card?
Keep it Simple
You may have the urge to use a different material for your business card but, that may kill the look of your card. Individuals frequently compose additional subtle elements on business cards –, for example, where they secure the card. This is considerably more hard to do on wood, metal, or even meat.
A business card is important for all the businesses. Whether you are a freelancer or a full time employee, a business card adds a lot to your profile. If you are into networking business, a sound business card will help you to make contacts in no time. You do not have to introduce yourself to every individual that you come across, an official card will serve the purpose. It is also associated with trust. A business card is a proof that a person belongs to a particular company and is representing a particular brand. If you are yet to design your business card, contact  www.bestlabel.com.au and get it created. If your design is ready, all you have to do is just place an order.
These few tips are sure to give you the best business cards ever. You can use these tips to design your own business cards or hire the professionals to craft your card. How Do I Rank Higher in Google Local Search? Our Checklist for Local SEO
How Do I Rank Higher in Google Local Search? Our Checklist for Local SEO was originally published on BruceClay.com, home of expert search engine optimization tips.
The good news: Showing up in Google’s search engine can be extremely beneficial to your local business.
The bad news: Google doesn’t care if you rank high or low. It cares only that there are quality results that answer the query to the total satisfaction of the searcher.
So the pressing question is, how do you rank higher on Google Maps and Google local search results? Improving your local search rankings is possible, and the results are very real. A Google study found that:
4 in 5 consumers use search engines to find local information.
50 percent of local smartphone searches lead to a store visit in less than a day.
18 percent of local searches on a smartphone result in a sale within a day.
If you’re asking, “How does Google local search work, and how can I rank higher in local search?” then this local SEO checklist is for you!
I first presented these 41 factors that contribute to local search ranking at Pubcon earlier this month (see my slide deck at the end). Here, I list them executive summary style, to help you understand how you can increase your local search rankings.
Disclaimers: Each of these topics could be an article in itself, but I’ve tried to give brief explanations and links for further reading, in keeping with a list format. This is not an exhaustive list of local ranking factors. It’s not in priority order either, but grouped into general categories which you can jump to as follows:
Housekeeping signals
Keywords and content signals
On-page signals
Linking signals
Local Pack signals
Social signals
Success signals
Housekeeping Signals
1. Branding Being a respected business in your community will increase your local search visibility. Google pays a lot of attention a brand’s perceived trust and expertise. Even if you’re just starting out, aim for happy customers and consistent quality to attract traffic and mentions.
2. Domain name Your website’s name should accurately represent your business or brand. It’ll be in every URL, so make it something appropriate and easily remembered. Don’t use a keyword phrase alone (e.g., http://ift.tt/2kaBMXA) to avoid an exact match domain (EMD) penalty. On the other hand, including a keyword as part of your domain (e.g., http://ift.tt/2kaBNuC) can help you as a local business if it’s tied into your brand name. Search algorithms are getting better and better at weeding out low-quality results, so make sure your domain doesn’t look like spam.
3. Hosting When it comes to web hosting, think about speed, availability, and maintained software. Choose a host that ensures your content is served up quickly, since page load speed is now a factor in Google’s algorithm. Beyond the hosting platform, there are many ways to speed up your web pages. Using Accelerated Mobile Pages and/or Progressive Web Apps may be worth considering, as well.
4. Content management system (CMS) Above all else, your CMS should be easy to use. Here, WordPress is king, consistently the top CMS used on the web. Consider how you can improve your system’s functionality with plugins — WordPress.org lists 1,864 plugins for “local” alone. And, don’t forget about a WordPress SEO plugin, too.
5. Compatibility We’re in a mobile-first world, with the majority of searches happening on smartphones and Google evaluating sites based on their mobile friendliness. Check your site to make sure it’s mobile friendly and optimized for mobile devices — otherwise, your rankings and visitor counts will suffer. Voice search is the next big area of compatibility.
6. Email Use your business’s domain in your email address (@bruceclay.com) rather than @gmail or another generic provider. It’s a small point, but worth putting on the housekeeping checklist to increase your professionalism and perceived trustworthiness.
Keywords and Content Signals
7. Keyword and content gap analysis Identify the keywords working for you in terms of hitting key performance indicators and bringing in revenue. Use keyword research to find additional phrases that can serve your personas/community, and examine your competition online for their keywords. Wherever you find a gap in your own content compared to the top-ranking sites, expand accordingly.
8. Detailed competitive review To get a more in-depth look at your competition, you’ll need to perform a detailed review. Examine their performance in every area in this checklist, then outdo them. The goal is to be the least imperfect with your local SEO.
9. Content creation Content that informs, educates or entertains readers improves your engagement. We recommend siloing your web content based on the themes your business is about. Set up your navigation and internal links carefully to create a hierarchical structure for the content on your site. Doing so will strengthen your site’s relevance and expertise around those topics.
10. Content variety Many different types of content can be “localized” to pertain specifically to your community. The list includes images, news, events, blog posts, videos, ads, tools and more. Having a variety of types of content indexed also gives your site more opportunity to rank, since they can appear in the vertical search engines (e.g., Google Images, YouTube, etc.).
Local content types diagram by Mike Ramsey
11. Content creation strategies To establish yourself as a local authority, tell local stories and express your opinion about the topics your business and your customers are focused on. Excellent content can become a strategy for attracting search traffic and also local expert links.
12. Local videos When you create videos that are appropriate to your website and region, you’ll soon discover that people will share them more on a local level. Build landing pages for your videos on your site to attract links and mentions. You can do this by uploading a video to your YouTube channel first, then embedding it on your page (copy the HTML right from YouTube’s Share tab into your page’s code).
13. Long-tail rankings Use locally relevant content to rank higher in searches around the Local Pack. Examples would include posts like “The 5 Best Restaurants in Las Vegas,” which could answer long-tail queries such as, “What are the best restaurants in Las Vegas.”
14. Local relevance Having content that’s locally focused can improve your reputation and reach in your area. This requires more than doing a find-and-replace on the city name to create hundreds of basically duplicate pages. You can start with templates, but make sure you’re including enough customized text, images and data to be locally relevant.
15. Landing pages For the best local results, create optimal landing pages. For example, if your brand serves a wide region, you might have a different landing page for each city in that region, like “dog grooming Simi Valley” and “dog grooming Thousand Oaks.”
16. Schema NAP+W Schema markup is code you can add to your website to help search engines understand your various types of information. According to Searchmetrics, pages with schema markup rank an average of four positions higher in search results.
Local businesses need schema in particular to call out their name, address, phone and website URL, also known as NAP+W, as well as hours of operation and much more. As an example, here’s what schema for our NAP+W would look like in the page code:
Local business schema markup example (in Google’s preferred format, JSON-LD)
Google is planning to expand its use of schema, so be sure to take advantage of all the structured data that applies to your content. Check out Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool to confirm you’re implementing schema correctly.
17. Information in the Local Pack Search engines want to make sure local business information is valid before presenting it in the “Local Pack” (the handful of local listings Google displays at the top of a web search results page, with addresses and a map). A business’s proximity to the searcher heavily influences whether it shows up in Local Pack results, so your location matters.
Keep your NAP+W data consistent across all sources. This is a local SEO priority, as it improves the search engines’ confidence in your business listing’s accuracy.
Be sure to include your business address on your own website. You can do this in the footer so it appears on every page, or at least show it on your contact page.
18. Google Map embedded By adding a Google map to your contact page or footer, you can quickly show searchers and search engines exactly where you’re located. Using an embedded map rather than a static map image provides extra functionality and reduces friction — a human visitor can just click the map and grab directions. On our site, the embedded map shows in the footer when a user clicks [Location & Hour Information]:
Embed a Google Map to add an interactive element to your site.
19. Testimonials To boost your brand’s credibility, you’ll need to get some local reviews or testimonials. Earn them (here’s a list of SEO-approved ways to get local reviews) and then add them, localized and with the author identified whenever possible. Testimonials, especially on a local level, can have a big impact. Seventy-three percent of consumers say that positive reviews make them trust a local business more.
20. Hawk update In the past, Google filtered out local listings that shared the same address or that were on the same street (part of the Possum update) under the assumption that those sites belonged to one business trying to get multiple listings. But since the August 2017 Hawk update, Google seems to have removed “same address” filtering for organic ranking.
On-Page Signals
21. Technical on-page SEO On-page elements are critical to get right for organic SEO on any web page. In addition to the standard optimization items (see our always-up-to-date SEO checklist for a list), a locally targeted page should have:
City in the title tag
Schema markup (as appropriate to the page contents)
Do not stuff keywords
Do not simply find-and-replace city names
Appropriate reading level and complexity (compare top-ranking pages to find your sweet spot)
22. Local keyword optimization Be sure to mention local keywords on your web pages (such as the name of your city, state or region and other geographical/local references) to help solidify Google’s understanding of your location and help you rank for local keyword queries.
Linking Signals
23. Local link building You cannot rank in a city without having local links. When relevant, quality websites within your city link back to you, it shows you’re a trusted local brand. Only links coming from unique IPs, unique domains and unique WhoIs for your geographic area will help you rank, so don’t fall for link schemes. The anchor text (clickable text) used in the links also send a signal to search engines. (See more link building guidelines.)
24. Local directories To make it easier for searchers to find you, you’ll want to be included in geotargeted directories for services, such as Yellow Pages online, a local restaurant database, or other. These citations add more weight to your site in the local search ranking algorithms. (This interview with local expert Darren Shaw gives helpful information on local listings, including a directory list.)
25. Social and web mentions Are people talking about your brand online? Even if they don’t include a link, brand mentions on social media platforms show engagement and interest in your business. These linkless mentions (and also “nofollow” links) help your business by attracting new customers and reinforcing your brand’s reputation, which can even influence local search rankings. Use a tool like GeoRanker to identify local citations and social media tools to keep tabs on the conversation.
26. External links Boost your credibility by linking to local expert resources that would be useful to your site visitors. Choose external web pages that are relevant to your subject matter and region. Remember that in order to be viewed as a local expert, you should visibly network with other local experts.
27. Competitor backlinks If someone is linking to your competition, they might link to you as well. Start by looking at the backlink profile of your top-ranked competitors (using a backlink analysis tool such as Majestic, Ahrefs or other). Identify good candidates — high-quality and relevant sites that don’t already link to yours. Then see if you can earn links from those same sites.
Local Pack Signals
28. NAP+W consistency As mentioned earlier, NAP+W refers to your business name, address, phone number and website URL. The goal here is for your NAP+W to be consistent across the board — wherever it’s listed online. For local optimization, you don’t want to have various versions of your address and phone number out there, such as:
NAP inconsistencies identified should be fixed (via Yext)
To see if your NAP+W is consistent, try Yext’s free test.
29. Google My Business (GMB) optimization Having a Google My Business listing is critical for businesses with service areas and physical businesses. It’s a free business listing to start building your visibility in Google Maps and Google Search.
In addition to ensuring NAP+W information is accurate, here are some optimization tips for your Google listing:
Add a unique description about your business. Make it long (400+ words), formatted correctly, and include links to your website.
Add your open business hours.
Select the best categories for your business (use Blumenthal’s Google Places for Business Category Tool).
Include a high-resolution profile cover image, plus as many additional photos as possible.
Use a local phone number (not a toll-free number).
Encourage reviews from your customers.
Use Google Posts to enhance your brand’s Knowledge Panel with upcoming events or special news. Your post displays only temporarily (usually for seven days), but will remain visible to anyone looking up your brand using Google mobile search, so make each post unique.
Secondly, create and optimize your business listing on Bing Places for Business.
30. Check your site on Google Maps Your Google My Business listing and schema also help get your business to show up in Google Maps. Since navigation systems and customers may refer to Google Maps to find you, make sure the pin marks the correct location for your business. Here’s how to add or edit your site in Google Maps.
31. Local business listings Increase your visibility by including your business on sites such as Yelp, Thomson Local, Angie’s List, Yellow Pages, TripAdvisor, Urbanspoon, OpenTable, Merchant Circle and Foursquare, as well as local travel and news sites — choose the sites that fit your type of business and customer base.
32. Better Business Bureau (BBB) Boost your credibility by ensuring that your business is listed with the BBB. Monitor your ratings there and display your BBB rating on your website as a trust signal for visitors. As with all local directories, make sure your location information on BBB matches your NAP+W.
33. Citation building and reviews Reviews will usually reflect absolute happiness or absolute misery. So it’s important to monitor the quantity and sentiment of your online reviews so you can actively manage your reputation.
Review sites to monitor include: Facebook, Google, Yelp, Bing, local chamber websites and more.
Sites where citations and mentions may occur include: Reddit, Quora, news media sites like WSJ, etc.
Consider adding a page to your website with instructions on how to provide reviews and feedback.
34. Location pages It’s recommended that you have one or more pages on your site dedicated to each location your business is in. Dedicate a page to each keyword, for example, “real estate agent, Simi Valley” (services, then city). Design this to be a good landing page for anyone searching within that area, and make the content unique. Avoid laundry lists or simply doing a wild card replace for the city name. Search engines can spot that type of duplicate content a mile away. (See our tips for dealing with thin content on your site.)
35. Press releases Press releases can be a great way to let locals know that you exist, especially if you have breaking news. Opening a new location? Hosting a charity event? Be sure to publicize it, and include the local geo references (city name, etc.) in your text. A press release published through an online PR site might catch the eye of a reporter who will publish a news article about your business in a local publication.
Social Signals
36. Social profiles Being active in social media and sharing your content (think content marketing) contribute to keeping your business top-of-mind. On social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google+ and Pinterest, your profile pages matter — make them consistent with your brand voice and informative. Be sure to include your contact information. Engagement with your brand is a social signal, such as when something you’ve posted is shared or liked. It’s also a way to engage with current and potential customers.
37. Touch your followers Help customers stay in the know. Social media can be an efficient way to spread news, local deals, alerts and updates to your customer base as well as get the word out to others. Interact with them one-on-one, and you may develop a brand advocate for life.
38. Become the local expert Make yourself known as a trustworthy business by building local expertise and authority in your space. For example, you could teach a class or speak at a local event. Brainstorm presentations that bring value to an audience while showcasing your expert knowledge related to your business.
39. Local discounts Attract local customers by offering discounts for locals. For example, you could offer members of a local organization $x or x% off your products or services, accept AAA discounts, or other.
Success Signals for Local SEO
40. Online and offline conversion tracking/analytics Stay on top of your conversions — actual results and dollars earned from your website — through analytics. (If you haven’t yet, set up Google Analytics for free.) Pay..
