"Waffles."

That was what awakened Lando early in the morning. You had been sound asleep, laying on your back with one hand above your head and the other one over Lando's back. Turning slowly, he was met with one of his favorite scenes ever. You were still asleep, and judging by what he had heard, you were dreaming about waffles, one of your favorite foods. At your feet, nestled cozily, was your playful puppy, Milo, his tiny paws twitching as he slept.

A small smile found its way onto Lando's sleepy face. He rubbed his eyes to shake away the sleepiness, deciding to enjoy this quiet and lovely moment by admiring the peaceful state you and Milo were in.

It was a Saturday, so that meant the two of you had the day off, and Lando planned to spend every single minute of it with you and Milo.

"You love your waffles, don't you, baby?" he whispered as he watched you sleep peacefully, still unaware that he was awake and watching you.

"I'll get you waffles." he added before carefully leaning over your sleeping form and pressing a soft kiss on your squished cheek, which made you slightly stir in your sleep. Thankfully, that was all you did, turning on your side and diving back into the land of dreams. Milo shifted slightly but remained blissfully asleep, his tiny snout twitching.

Letting out a sigh, Lando got up and threw on a pair of joggers that were lying on a chair near your bed. He glanced back at the bed, taking in the serene sight of you and Milo. With that, he quietly headed downstairs, where he began the process of delivering the waffles that woke him up. It was quite early, 7 am; he usually never gets up before 10 on a weekend day, but today was an exception.

Lando never cooks. Even during the time he lived alone, he would usually order takeout whenever he wasn't traveling so thay he wouldnt have to bother with cooking and doing the dishes afterward. However, ever since you entered his life, it became his mission to at least be able to make the food you'd agree to sell him for, waffles.

Around forty minutes later, the house was full of the smell of freshly made waffles and strawberries. Lando grabbed a tray from one of the cupboards, placing on it a plate stacked with waffles covered with syrup and cut-up strawberries. Next to the plate, he put a small bowl filled with more fruits, as you liked to snack on something after eating breakfast. He finished everything with two cups of coffee on the tray.

With that, he headed up the stairs, balancing the tray in his hands, trying not to miss a step and miserably fail in his attempt to give you a nice morning. Using his elbow, he opened the door to the bedroom, and with the help of his back, he pushed it fully open and entered the room. Seeing that you and Milo were still asleep made him let out a thankful sigh, happy that his surprise wasn't ruined. He set the tray down on your bedside table and sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Wake up, pretty girl," he whispered, inches away from your forehead as he leaned in and left another small kiss on it while stroking your soft cheek with his thumb. Mili stirred as well, opening his eyes and wagging his tail slightly at the sight of his daddy.

The gesture made you slowly open your eyes, a smile immediately placing itself on your face as the first thing you saw was your lovely boyfriend smiling down at you and the smell of freshly made coffee and baked waffles filling the room. Milo, now fully awake, stretched and let out a tiny yawn before snuggling closer to you.

"Well, that's something I could easily get used to waking up to," you murmured with a groggy tone, making Lando smile once again.

Stretching yourself up, you lazily sat up and propped yourself against the headboard of the bed while Lando set the tray down on your lap and went around the bed to settle on his side so that the two of you could share a nice breakfast in bed. Milo climbed into your lap, sniffing at the delicious spread.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of receiving a breakfast in bed, Mr. Norris?" You asked as you made a kissy face, asking for another kiss, which you received in no time.

"Well, sweetheart, given the fact I was woken up by your sweet voice, talking about waffles while asleep, I thought, let's give the lady what she wants." Lando explained as he blessed your morning with more kisses down your exposed shoulder.

"Remind me to get you a big trophy with the words 'best man ever' engraved on it for your birthday." You smiled after hearing how they ended up where they were now.

"You're my biggest trophy in life, sweetheart, there's no need for anything else. Now, let's enjoy a nice breakfast in bed before spending a nice day together outside." He said as he took hold of the waffle that was on the top of the stack and took a bite of it. Milo eagerly watched him, hoping for a tiny piece of waffle to fall his way.

You wasted no more time, grabbing another one along with a few pieces of strawberry. The two of you spent the next hour in bed, enjoying your amazing breakfast and coffee, exchanging kisses and hugs, all while savoring the moment. Milo settled comfortably between you, enjoying the attention and the occasional treat.

You were still amazed by your boyfriend, who usually liked to sleep as much as possible on his days off, and today he suddenly decided to get up early in the morning and make you exactly what you’d been dreaming of a couple of minutes ago. Milo, too, seemed content with the extra love and attention.

Soon after though, the small dog get out a loud bark, announcing that he was now expecting his own breakfast and either mommy or daddy had to hurry up before another pack of dog food ends up being demolished on the pantry floor.

All the Hours and Minutes In Between

The commute to Harbor from Evan’s apartment is fifteen minutes shorter than it is from Tommy’s house. If they stay at Evan’s place the night before a shift, they get to have fifteen more minutes together: cuddles in bed, unhurried kisses, quiet conversations in the kitchen over cups of coffee.

It’s why most of the nights they’re together, they’re spent at Evan’s.

And while those fifteen minutes add up day after day, they only leave Tommy wanting more.

One morning, Evan stops Tommy on his way out the door. He hands Tommy the lasagna pan he used the week before when they had dinner at his house. The pan looks brand new and not at all how it looked in Tommy’s cabinet—of course it does—because Evan always leaves things better than he found them.

“You can keep it,” Tommy says. “I prefer your lasagna any day.”

Evan tilts his head and laughs quietly. “That’s sweet, but I already have four. I think I’m good.”

Tommy accepts the lasagna pan and a lingering kiss on his lips.

He spends the whole walk to his truck wondering why he feels so rejected.

Tommy hasn’t been to his house in over a week. Evan’s schedule and his matched up perfectly and even though they wouldn’t have time or energy to do much more than eat and sleep between shifts, when Evan texted him: come over after work? Tommy did each time. And at the end of their work week, one date night somehow turned into three. 

They’re lying together, Evan squished between Tommy and the back of the couch, watching Pretty Woman when Tommy shivers. Evan holds him closer. “Do you want a hoodie? You left a few here.” “Yeah. Where are they?” Tommy moves to sit up, but Evan stops him.

“Stay. I’ll get it,” Evan says as he climbs over Tommy.

Tommy smiles as he watches Evan walk away. He wonders which one he’ll bring back: the one from the Muay Thai gym he goes to or any one of the alarming number of LAFD hoodies he owns. 

When Evan returns, he sets a laundry basket on the floor and picks out a navy hoodie that says Kinard on the back. He smiles sheepishly at Tommy. “I was—uh—doing laundry and found a bunch of your clothes so I threw them in with mine. Figured you might need them when you go home. You can just bring the basket back whenever.”

Tommy stares down at the full basket and can’t quite remember how or when he’d squirreled away so many articles of clothing, but he desperately wants to tell Evan to put them all back where he found them. He doesn’t even have a drawer of his own in Evan’s dresser but still he wants more, more, more .

Evan shifts his weight and clutches the hoodie to his chest. “Was that—okay?”

The hitch in Evan’s breath shakes Tommy out of his daze. He tugs at Evan’s shirt until he’s standing between Tommy’s legs. “That was very thoughtful of you, sweetheart.” 

A small smile tugs at Evan’s lips. Tommy kisses Evan until the light returns to his eyes and a soft blush settles on his cheeks.

Evan unfolds the hoodie. “Now put this on so we can start Runaway Bride . Lift up your arms.”

Tommy asks, “is this really necessary?” but he does as he’s told and lets Evan slide the hoodie over his arms and head.

After they’re back on the couch, Evan—curled against Tommy’s back—says, “I love taking care of you.”

Tommy places his hands over Evan’s, where they’re settled on Tommy’s stomach, and laces their fingers together. 

He really loves Evan taking care of him too.

Tommy has to park in a space that couldn’t be further from Evan’s apartment, but it hardly fazes him anymore. Soon he’ll have Evan in his arms and it’ll be more than worth the trek.

When Evan opens the door, he frowns. “Did I forget we had plans?”

Tommy sighs and shakes his head.  “No, we didn’t. I just drove here after my shift out of habit. I wasn’t thinking.”

Evan smiles and opens the door the rest of the way. “Well you’re here now, so come in.”

Tommy takes off his shoes and lines them up next to Evan’s, drops his keys in the bowl right next to his. “Actually, that’s a lie.”

“What?”

“I said I wasn’t thinking, but that’s not true. Coming home to you—it’s all I can think about. It’s all I want to do. I want to wake up with you and go to bed with you. I want all the hours and minutes in between.”

“Tommy—”

“I don’t want you to send me back to my house with clean dishes and laundry.”

“What are you saying?”

“I want more than just a drawer in your dresser and a key to your place.”

Evan takes Tommy’s hand in his. Like so many times before, they’d gravitated toward each other without realizing it. “Babe. I really need you to spell this out for me.”

“I want to move in with you.”

Evan smiles. “Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Tommy, I wanted you to move in with me six months ago.”

“Well, a lot has happened since then. I didn’t know if the offer still stood.”

Evan squeezes Tommy’s hand.  “It stands.”

Tommy sighs. “Okay. Good. Does that mean I can stay the night?”

“It means you can stay forever.”

Turtles Catches Up With Old GMMTV: The Eclipse OGMMTVC Rewatch to Reexamine "Genre BLs," Along With a Critical Take on Branded Ships

[What’s going on here? After joining Tumblr and discovering Thai BLs through KinnPorsche in 2022, I began watching GMMTV’s new offerings -- and realized that I had a lot of history to catch up on, to appreciate the more recent works that I was delving into. From tropes to BL frameworks, what we’re watching now hails from somewhere, and I’m learning about Thai BL's history through what I’m calling the Old GMMTV Challenge (OGMMTVC). Starting with recommendations from @absolutebl on their post regarding how GMMTV is correcting for its mistakes with its shows today, I’ve made an expansive list to get me through a condensed history of essential/classic/significant Thai BLs produced by GMMTV and many other BL studios. My watchlist, pasted below, lists what I’ve watched and what’s upcoming, along with the reviews I’ve written so far. Today, I take a look at my very first GMMTV series that I ever watched, The Eclipse, to examine its prowess as a "genre" BL, and to take a critical stab at the branded ship model vis à vis a successful narrative.]

HELLO. Due to BIG SUMMER LIFE (!!!) (WOW -- work trips, work changes, new projects, the regular family stuff, so much travel!), I've been a couple months delayed on getting some words down on my recent rewatch of The Eclipse for my Old GMMTV Challenge project, but I'm glad to take some time now to talk about this show.

I'm at a point in the project where my syllabus (pasted at the bottom of this post) will take me into the territory of many shows that I've already watched since starting my Thai BL journey in the fall of 2022, shows that I watched while they were airing, such as Moonlight Chicken, Bed Friend, Be My Favorite, and others. (I will be offering short, non-rewatch notes on some of these shows as I go along in the chronology.) The Eclipse is one of these.

I wanted to specifically give The Eclipse a full rewatch for a couple of reasons, the biggest one being very personal, in that The Eclipse was my very first ever-EVER GMMTV series (!!!). And, the only Thai BL I had watched, in the late summer and fall of 2022, prior to The Eclipse was KinnPorsche.

So! At the time of my watching The Eclipse in 2022, I had nooooo idea who First Kanaphan or Khaotung Thanawat were; I didn't know about the existence of branded ships in Thai BLs yet; I didn't know about the prevalence and regularity of side couples in Thai BLs, as VegasPete had been my first exposure to that; I didn't effing know about the fabulousity that is Neo Trai, none of it.

I simply just watched the show on the recommendation of a dear mutual. And, fuck, man, I totally had expected WAY more salacious material in The Eclipse coming off of KinnPorsche! At first, I was like, Thailand is WILDIN', and then it was just the GMMTV-PG FirstKhao smooches, which was fine, they were great, ha! I wasn't disappointed, but lmao, that was my mindset and understanding of my very brief introduction to Thai BLs at that very moment -- I thought it was all guns and butts and mafiosos and pool sex.

Besides rewatching The Eclipse with my now-very-experienced Thai BL glasses on to fix ALL of those past assumptions, I also wanted to rewatch the show in the understanding that filmmaker and former politician, Golf Tanwarin (the first transgender member of parliament in Thailand's House of Representatives) was addressing homophobia and leveraging their screenplay to talk about themes of stifling conformation in Thai society vis à vis the fictional environment of the Suppalo boys school. I want to demarcate this moment as an important one: at this point of my syllabus, the late summer and fall of 2022, the Thai BL landscape exists still mostly within the no-homophobia bubble, with only a handful of shows (He's Coming To Me, Secret Crush On You, etc.) stepping out of that bubble to grab the theme of homophobia and really wrangle with it frontally by way of familial and social acceptance.

However, I have to admit something as I write this review. During this recent rewatch, I had the benefit not just of my past historical chronological viewing of old shows behind me to judge The Eclipse's success as a show and as a messenger of deeper themes past straightforward romance; but I also had the benefit of foresight into the future, seeing how First and Khao served as a branded couple again in Only Friends, a series that, I believe, flopped in its narrative end due to the show prioritizing happy endings for its branded couples, rather than taking the time and the risks to break the branded ships up (or, at least, rock their foundations) to offer sophisticated social commentary on casual sex, as the initial marketing for Only Friends had initially promised.

In other words, I had critical glasses on for FirstKhao's performance, not necessarily for the actors themselves (well, kinda, lemme be for real), but I also wanted to understand better how The Eclipse centered THEM as an IT, a tangible IT, the branded ship, either against and/or vis à vis Golf's underlying critical messaging on social conformity and homophobia.

Unfortunately, through that critical lens, what I gained out of this rewatch of The Eclipse is a confirmed judgement that the common Thai BL structure of very much CENTERING a branded ship, especially emanating out of GMMTV, the central home for branded ships in Thailand, will almost CERTAINLY render a show attempting to make higher messages a weaker one in the end.

I found myself FULLY enjoying The Eclipse out of the FirstKhao sequences. When I first watched The Eclipse in 2022, I was a Thua hater, and I engaged for the very first time with @respectthepetty and others on subsequent defenses of Thua's outing of Akk and Ayan in the context of Akk and Ayan acting like loose-cannon-dillholes themselves. (This was a fabulous intro to my engaging with others on Tumblr, by the way, and I remember this discourse fondly!)

This time around, with the blessing of hindsight, I fully appreciated Louis Thanawin's FANTASTIC performance at the end of the series, as an overly frustrated and overwhelmed student wrangling with his sexuality, his attraction to Kan, and watching Kan's own struggles with his own sexuality, along with dealing with an overbearing stepfather -- and all of that happening while he was watching the hypocrisy of Akk slowly warming to Ayan, while Akk simultaneously punished The World Remembers gang. Louis, as Thua, fucking nailed it, and was an utter cutie at the end with Kan (including in Our Skyy 2, swoon). And forget about Neo Trai: Neo as Kan was one of the best performances I've seen of Neo's, as a student struggling literally to the second to manage his outward displays of automatic attraction to Thua for the sake of maintaining a façade of "order" for the Suppalo environment.

How does all of this impact my thoughts on FirstKhao as a branded ship, and AkkAyan as a fictional couple in The Eclipse?

There was so much great commentary on mental health, on social pressures and conformity, and on the reliance of history to contextualize and engage in suppression, in this show. The show hit hard and impactfully on these themes. As I just mentioned, the story of Thua was a welcome inclusion of the various ways in which homophobia impacted the Suppalo environment on micro- and macro-levels. The story of Dika is also gutting, and I appreciated The Eclipse for never turning an eye away from Ayan's continued suffering at losing his uncle so traumatically. (I also understand that there was quite a lot of conservative protest against The Eclipse in Thailand, and that the show being shortened by two episodes may have been related to this, along with the show airing during ongoing student protests.)

Unfortunately, I believe The Eclipse tripped on itself when it stepped away from these themes to move to more lighthearted moments with AkkAyan. I think the centering of this ship led to a number of key unfulfilled narrative moments, including a key factual skip later in the series, when Ayan indicates to Akk that Akk had made a promise to reveal his work against The World Remembers, a promise that did not have prior reference in earlier episodes.

This isn't to say that a budding couple can't have sweet moments. And we saw a tremendous amount of trauma coming from both Akk and Ayan, with Ayan's ongoing anger at Suppalo, and Akk's fear of rejection for his and his family's financial state, leading him to embody Suppalo's culture of suppression for the sake of his own survival at the school. These very-deeply messed-up fictional boys absolutely deserved and needed love.

But I found myself taking the most notes on this show when I felt the tones of previous scenes of protest, trauma, or attack were juxtaposed against getting Akk and Ayan together for a subsequent scene, especially later in the series, when their flirtation continued to grow. I felt this particularly during the outdoor Twitter scene in the bleachers, when Akk and Ayan were using tweets as a means of finding out who was running the counterprotest Twitter account, which was placed right after a particularly brutal attack against The World Remembers. I needed to flip my emotional attention back to a practiced GMMTV routine of watching a ship continue to warm up to each other for memorable and meme-able moments, and I found that juxtaposition jarring.

As opposed to Not Me, GMMTV's first "genre" BL that played with a sandbox outside of romance, The Eclipse was on steadier feet. While Not Me really tried to play around de-centering a shipped pair in OffGun, it truly stumbled in rushing back to inject romance throughout the storyline, particularly with DanYok taking up unexpected and discordant room (ACAB, YOK). And outside of GMMTV, we've seen many "genre" BLs actually work really well, most notably to that point in 2022, the crime-driven Manner of Death (MaxTul, my beloved), which balanced a developing romance with a legitimately interesting and unwinding mystery, all with a sharp and solid screenplay that didn't stray from its intended purpose. (Maybe I'm getting my hopes up too soon, but we're seeing "genre" BL doing well right now with 4 Minutes, and GMMTV has another, riskier, "genre" BL coming up in its crime-driven series, Kidnap.)

GMMTV, however, demands something economically from its shows, a sellable final product that can be transmogrified into fan meetings, branded items, and most of all, enduring and memorable legacies for the branded ships that center most of its BLs. At the time of The Eclipse's airing, both First and Khao had been previously paired with others (First with Gawin Caskey in Not Me; Khao with Podd Suphakorn in Tonhon Chonlotee), and the sao wais had been eagerly awaiting the debut of FirstKhao, and were fed nicely.

I can't say, quantifiably, if the majority of the global Thai BL fandom, or even the majority of the GMMTV fandom, are sao wais who only watch GMMTV shows for branded ships and guaranteed happy endings between shipped actors that only partner with the same person over and over again. I also believe that at this moment in time (in 2024), that we may be seeing differences in preferences emanating from fandoms based in Thailand, China, elsewhere in Asia, and globally, particularly in Europe and North and South America, between fans that will willingly support branded ships through very bad narrative shows, versus fans that prefer well-scripted shows above all else.

I think, after the economic earthquake that was the airing of 2gether in 2020, that GMMTV made a hard-turn decision to prioritize series that centered repeating branded ships above all other kinds of investment in other shows, including excellent screenplays.

I say this not to bemoan the opportunity for Thai filmmakers to have economic success. If these shows are making coin for Thai creatives -- maybe even the kind of coin that will allow these creatives to have more artistic freedom in their futures -- then I cannot begrudge that at all, and I wish these artists economic success.

But from a critical viewpoint of artistically narrative success, I'd argue that the last truly great narrative show of GMMTV's portfolio is 2021-22's Bad Buddy, featuring a branded ship in OhmNanon that I'm sure the network wanted to use again, one that both Nanon Korapat and Ohm Pawat knew they didn't want to repeat. Since then, while we've had a small amount of storytelling gems out of GMMTV like Moonlight Chicken, Cherry Magic Thailand, and Cooking Crush, most of what's come out of that studio has been mediocre for the past few years, with some aching stumbles having been had in shows like 23.5, Wandee Goodday, and My Love Mix-Up Thailand, which is airing now.

A major complaint across social media right now about My Love Mix-Up Thailand, centering Gemini Norawit and Fourth Nattawat, is that the show rushes to create meme-able moments between them, which is more in line with GMMTV's bottom line of engagement first. My Love Mix-Up/Kieta Hatsukoi is an utterly beloved Japanese manga and dorama. While G4 fans are drumming up the level of social media engagement that GMMTV judges "success" on, many other general BL fans have been left disappointed by the show's pulling back from honoring certain moments of hilarity and connection with the original Japanese source material (how could Fourth NOT go into the trash can?!).

I posit that it was 2gether's 2020 airing that encouraged GMMTV to make the pivot from investing in well-crafted screenplays, and taking risks to split ships up -- as the network did with Tay Tawan in 2019's 3 Will Be Free -- to center the branded ships.

And I think 2022's The Eclipse is an excellent example of the result of this decision-making: that while The Eclipse's core ideas within its screenplay were admirable, and much of the acting and romance outside of the branded ship were great to watch, that the show's needing to leave the central path of the narrative central story to spotlight the FirstKhao ship to create engagement-worthy moments ultimately took power away from the show and its message.

Only Friends -- a late-2023 show that initially marketed itself on breaking up ships and celebrating casual sex -- came back around in the end to scold any of us fans that wanted to see the ships sink. The dynamic between First and Khao in Only Friends was incredibly similar to their dynamic in The Eclipse: First acting as a tough-guy character who couldn't help being simp-ly swept away by an overpowering character played by Khao. I'm afraid the same will be repeated again in Jojo Tichakorn's next show, The Heart Killers, and I'd like to be proven wrong there, but.

It's incredible for me to reflect on what I know now about The Eclipse, and how this otherwise-excellent show was, in my eyes, economically impacted by the casting decision to prioritize a branded ship over the narrative cohesiveness of a screenplay. GMMTV has only committed even more to this path since The Eclipse's airing.

For the sake of excellent actors like First, and especially Khao: I hope they can have the future opportunity to spread their wings and act with other actors (as the very extreme majority of actors in entertainment get to enjoy), to shake off the economic prioritizing of branded ships in order to access better screenplays and stories. They deserve it, as hard-working creatives, and I'll certainly support them outside of the branded ship model, one that I believe is showing artistic wear and tear as more branded ship shows keep narratively sinking.

[Alright! So, where am I on the OGMMTV list? I've actually already finished the next show on my list, GAP The Series, this summer, and I hope I can pen that review in short order to get this series back on some kind of timely track.

HOWEVER, HEH HEH, that's actually going to be a bit difficult for me as, per the recommendation of a couple of BL elders, I am backtracking chronologically and tackling 2022's The Miracle of Teddy Bear, Thailand's first queer primetime, broadcast channel-level lakorn, which consists of 16 90-minute episodes, which, woof. Despite its hefty length, I am terribly excited to watch a show (a lakorn, EEEE!) out of the usual Thai BL bubble, one that I understand has been potentially misunderstood and/or mis-marketed to BL fandoms over the years. For the sake of its primetime airing alone, it holds an important place on the OGMMTVC syllabus. And I can't wait to take a crack at a Thai major channel's first attempt to make queer content and BL-genre-influenced content a primetime offering.

This means that, once again, My School President has been held at a delay, but I will get to MSP soon, I SWEAR! (And....oops. I'm thiiiiiinking that I might watch My Love Mix-Up after MSP at literal warp speed, literally 1.5x, to do another piece on branded ships vis à vis G4 and Au Kornprom in 2022 vs. 2024. We'll see. I may not wanna do that to myself, but... but! For science?!?! Maybe.)

There was a surprising amount of sex in Be Mine Superstar! I really wasn’t expecting it…. Similarly, Love Syndrome had a LOT less sex than I was promised by the trailer…

Are there any BLs that had either many more or many less NC scenes than you were expecting before you started watching them?

BLs that exceeded (or underperformed) sexy expectations

Interesting question. So far, not that many Thai BLs. But I think that's just because I pay attention to the pairs and the actors in Thai stuff, and you sort of get a feel for what they will (and won't) take on. So in your examples: I know JaFirst did high heat so I expected the producers to lean into that advantage as part of BMSS because, frankly, it didn't have much else going for it.

I haven't watched Love Syndrome III yet but knowing Frank I wouldn't expect it to go super high heat in terms of actual physical contact.

I guess the ones that have surprised me are mostly out of Thailand are pulps that I knew nothing about going in. Let me see...

Thai BL that ended up being way hornier/better than I expected

Secret Crush On You - such a weird show but BillySeng brought IT, whatever IT is, they got it.

Love in Translation - yeah, what happened in that sauce isle boys? Very saucy. Whatever pun, more please.

2 Moons 3 - about on par with ForthBeam from 2 Moons 2 but nothing else in the previous 2 series would lead one to expect the horny we got in this show on the main.

Second Chance - yeah it was a throw away pulp and this studio is hit or miss on chemistry but it had one of the best kisses of its year.

Big Dragon - I don't know what I expected form the trailers, but it wasn't as good as it turned out to be. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the show is naff, but the chemistry/heat levels are scorching.

Ghost Host, Ghost House - generally the horror stuff doesn't do chemistry well, but these two have some of the best chemistry EVER put into a pulp. I really hope we see more of them.

KinnPorsche - It's no secret I'm not as wild about this show as most, but I did think the VegasPete stuff was unexpectedly killer in all ways.

Oh My Sunshine Night - yeah it was exactly what one expects from OhmFluke but THE SIDES!!!! I mean... WHAT? I'm not mad, just pleasantly surprised.

TharnType - Okay but remember at the time what we'd had from Mame was LBC (relatively low heat) and other Thai stuff I was familiar with at the time was Make It Right, Love Sick, SOTUS, and UWMA. TT was way higher heat that I'd seen from Thailand before. And then...

Why R U? - ZeeSaint's "away trip to the beach" full on sex scenes plus repping for verse was just crazy at the time. Especially since Saint played Pete in LBC before this and Zee was new to BL. Add that to the very odd and disjointed (and miss-matched) SaifahZon counter story and WRU? was this insane all over the place viewing experience, including the heat levels. There was this "what will they do next?" kind of tension over the production. Not the story (because who was following that?) but the PRODUCTION. At the time, it was welcome, but truly bonkers. What a way to drive narrative tension... pure high heat chaos.

Thai BLs where chemistry failed meet my (relatively low) expectations

My Ride - honestly, if they had just gotten the kiss right this might even have earned a 10/10 from me

Unforgotten Night - ugh

Bite Me - double ugh

Friend Forever - I know I'm the only person who watched this but why could we not have gotten ONE kiss from the leads?

Nitman - studies have since shown us it is entirely not Noh's fault... see Oh My Sunshine Night

Wedding Plan - the leads were fine, but Mame usually fails me in every way except chemistry, so "fine" is not up to her usual standards. Those standards being predominantly "they hawt together" and nothing else. There wasn't even a side dish couple to pick up the slack noodle... so to speak.

Korean BL

For most of 2022 I was consistently getting surprised by Korean BL's chemsitry when it was good but now I've settled into half expecting it yet still being delighted when it happens and is well done.

I do think Semantic Error was a bit of a seed change for them.

The problem is, now we know they can do it, we are starting to get pissed when it's bad or entirely absent.

Taiwanese BL

Taiwan is the opposite of Korea.

I expect good chemistry and almost always always get it. I struggle to think of a time when they've disappointed me (in this arena). Maybe a few? But I tend to cut Taiwan more slack than other countries because they have so few BLs and they are generally so consistent. If they falter at all, at least the side couple will pick up the slack.

Japanese BL

I have no expectations of Japan. Life as a BL fan is a lot easier that way.

M/N watched as his 3 children kept chanting that weird name, now he wasn’t familiar with anyone with that kind of name unless they were talking about Kakashi Hatake which the name “Ninja mime” fits him.

To M/N, he looks like any old-rich- white-dude so why are his kids are so fond of him suddenly? “Woah there little children! Don’t make a scene out of me.” Johnny Cage said with a snarky grin making M/N stoic expression turn firm a little.

“Come on kids, let’s not disturb the gentlemen.” M/N voice had a bit of sweetness mix with irritation as he began to push the cart full of food but it seems like his children didn’t want to leave.

“Aww, but dad. Look this may sound surprising to you but could we at least hang in the store for a couple of hours?” C/N one said, “This is like the only one time we actually might be grateful towards you if you do.” C/N three said

“Couple of hours? No, we have to get home early, cook dinner, go to sleep and take you kids to school.” M/N rebuttal and his three children pouted before looking up at Johnny with adorable-dejected-looking-faces.

“Looks like we can’t know each other yet Ninja-Mime.” C/N two with sadness. Johnny looked down with a half-smile. Looking up at their father who was beginning to walk away. Johnny crouched at their height “How about I..go to your house?”

“You can do that?!” C/N one question with excitement and Johnny just gave them a playful wink.

“Children!!” M/N yelled, the 3 kids jumped at their fathers voice and scurried away from Johnny to their father who was already 6 feet away from them from the aisle.

Around 5, at home. Biyu was out of the house again to work dead-paying job meaning the children own the house now to do whatever they want.

“He should be here any minute now.”

“You sure? Someone like him has way too much on his hands” C/N two replied to C/N one. The two youngsters head downstairs and stood in front of the door, C/N one was tapping their shoes on the wooden floor impatiently before the doorbell was heard. The children immediately yanked the door open and had nervous smiles on their faces with Johnny cage looking down at them with wide eyes when seeing their nervous expression.

“You kids okay? I know I’m a celebrity and all but- you guys don’t seem like-“

“Oh no! We do want you here! Come! Come in.” C/N two nudged their small hand out for Johnny to come inside. The two looked up with creepy smiles but they were just shy and nervous since a big star came inside their little home. Johnny entered their small house, it was homey but very clustered as their were toys on the floor, and colored pencils laying around with papers drawn. A fish tank sitting on a dresser and kitchen just a few steps away.

The children began to pick up and tidy the living room up a little for their special guest and they did it pretty fast, C/N puts a towel where they accidentally spilled orange juice on the cushion and led Johnny where to sit which he oblige. “So this is where you guys sleep, not particularly my taste but for a normal family such as you guys.” Johnny looked around before he heard something moving and he adverted his eyes to see the three kids of M/N just staring at them. “Do you want anything sir? We got water, Thai tea or orange juice?”C/N one question with a nervous smile

“No need for the hospitality kids, just call me Johnny.” He interjected, “ok! Johnny?! How was your day?! What did you ate?!” M/N children energy were high! Johnny could understand where M/N stoic personality came from (If M/N came back and spot Johnny with his children it would drop his energy already.)

“I haven’t really ate anything today, but I did snuck out during a meeting for a movie just to see you kids.” Johnny replied, “awh, we were that important even we just met..well I know you..but you don’t know me-“ C/N one continued before C/N two smack them on the head for their sibling to not reveal the stalkings they did on Johnny’ daily life.

“So kids..do you guys have any games to play?” Johnny cage asked as he leaned back in the small couch, his legs had to be out stretched on the floor since he was tall.

“We can play (Your favorite game) on the PS5!” C/N one suggests and C/N two opens a cabinet under the TV to reveal the many games they had before picking the game C/N said they could play. The kids brought out their controllers and tossed one to Johnny who caught it in ease. The three began to play the game on the TV, making loud noises in the process making the toddler in the house awake

“CAN YOU GUYS BE QUIET?!” C/N three shouts from the nursery room, the older kids and Johnny quickly shut their mouth but later snickered in response. The three continued to play the PS5 until the clock strikes at 7pm. The sounds of keys rattling against the door heard before opening-

School was canceled the day after the villains attacked the USJ Facility. ━━━━ Teachers felt the students needed some time to relax, though it was quite hard too.

“Elder Sister??” Izuna called out as he searched for Y/N in their traditional mansion. The home was quite large considering their father was both the number five pro hero and the Uchiha’s clan leader.

When first entering the Uchiha compound, the main families houses stayed at the back on the compound as they were much bigger than the others. Being multi-leveled with two floors.

The entrance consisted of a wooden gateway that connected to concrete walls having the clan symbol embroidered on them. While when entering the gateway a path was shown leading to the houses front door.

The house was square shaped without including the training ground that was on the right side connected to the home.

The traditional home was made out of wood and supported by wooden pillars. The home was quite luxurious as the front of the house was designed as it also had a garden courtyard area in the centre of the home. It was where Y/N often found herself.

He had walked outside to the training grounds seeing Y/N throwing kuani’s at targets that hang on the tree. He frowned as a worried expression was casted upon his face.

After the USJ attack, it has been confirmed Y/N Uchiha had strained her sharingan due to overuse. Leading to her needing to wear bandages around her eyes, being used a type of eye mask.

“Y/N, Father was looking for you…And do you really think you should be training?” He voice unable to hide the worry he felt.

“I’ll be fine..” She stated sounding quite angry. She continuing to throw the kuani at her targets. Until stopping for a moment and turning to Izuna with a cunning smirk in full view. Making her younger brother nervously laugh.

“hey Izunaa….” She muttered while her younger brother only shivered knowing all about the mischief tone in her voice.

He walked down the two wooden steps of the training grounds stairs as he now was on the same level as his older sister who kept giving him a manic smile.

Although he already knew what she wanted.Her smile only kept her younger brother sweating as he swore he could see black Aura surrounding her.

“Y’know it’s been quite a while since I beaten some sense into you. How about it??” She laughed quite villainously.

Izuna only trembled knowing even there was no point if he denied, she would most definitely put him in the ground.

Watching his older sister slightly spread her feet out the same distance as her hips up. She then put her left foot back and lifted her arms having a slight turn in her body.

Y/N was now in a Muay Thai stance giving Izuna an evil smile that only scared her brother even more. He knew how most spars with Y/N usually ended. Now as she kept her stance steady he could only do the same.

“Right..” He mumbled as he charged towards Y/N, ready to throw a hit at her. As he closed their distance he was struck on the face with Y/N’s elbow taking him aback.

When stepping back he had earned high kick to his stomach making him fall forwards landing on his elbow and knees. When looking back up he was shocked to see she was no longer in front of him.

He looked to the left and right trying to catch sight of her while pressing onto his stomach where he had gotten kicked. It only then came to him as he felt her presence behind him.

He slightly turned his head to see his older sister behind him holding a kuani inches away from his nape. Although to Y/N’s surprise he soon dispersed making it known the Izuna she was fighting was only shadow clone.

“Well done, Izuna.” She praised hearing the footsteps of his real body come from behind her. She turned her head and lifted her fingers, putting it in a motion signaling him to come closer to her.

Even though her eyes were covered by the bandages limiting her eyesight. She could feel her younger brother’s childish smile grow as he ran towards her.

His taller figure approached her the girl poked his forehead as Izuna rested his hand on where the girl poked.

“ouch..” He muttered not expecting it, even though she had done it multiple times. Especially if they were younger. It was a small way Y/N tells someone that she cares.

“I’m surprised you were able to copy the Senju’s jutsu.” She said going off to sit on the training grounds engawa.

“I managed to copy it, from our last warring states fight. Y’know I’m glad there’s no more battle..” Izuna explained following behind her excitedly.

“But still I’m nothing compared to you, elder sister. You can’t even see and you took down my clone.” He beamed happily watching his sister drink from her water bottle.

They were soon interrupted as the sound of their doorbell echoed throughout their luxurious mansion.

“Oh right, the Todoroki’s are here.” Izuna told her then remembering the whole reason he was looking for her in the start was to tell her that.

“Todoroki??” She said slightly stunned. She had completely forgotten about the meeting they were supposed to have.

“Have you forgotten?? Endeavour organised the meeting with Father to be earlier, after what happened with the USJ.” Izuna reminded.

“Oh right..” She whispered, already hearing the voice of the number two hero and her father. Izuna watched her get up slightly struggling as she was unable to see.

He only watched his older sister silently make her into their home to bring tea to the guests as she was told.

Shoto Todoroki on the other hand was walking around the home looking the girl who he had not seen since the villain incident.

He was now walking through the hallways before pausing and catching a glimpse of the Uchiha’s long, spiky flowing behind her as she walked into a room on the other side of home.

It didn’t take long for him to rush over to the room he had just seen her walk into.

“Uchiha.” Y/N was caught off guard to hear Shoto call out her last name. He was now stood behind her inside the kitchen, watching her perfect figure pouring tea into multiple yonomi cups.

His eyes widened and his jaw slightly dropped watching the girl turn to face him, now being able to see the bandages that wrapped around her eyes.

He was unsure what to say as now he could only stare at the girl completely stunned. She a wore a black kimono top that was open at the chest.

He came to realise that most clothing he had seen her in was traditional and open at the top. Taken note that it was probably her thing.

The Kimono top was long tightening on her waist by using a thick, white, cloth belt. She paired it with matching black trousers.

“I can’t even see your face, yet I know what you’re thinking.” She said. Turning herself back around towards placing the cups on the trap before picking it up and heading towards Todoroki.

“Sorry..” He apologised before continuing to silently look at her as she stood in front of him.

To be fair she didn’t want an apology for his staring but one for what he had told her on there first meeting. To be fair after their first conversation she didn’t even know he was capable of apologising.

He came out the doorframe waiting for the girl lifting the tray to walk in front of him as they now both made their way to the room their parents were.

“Do you know, when it might heal??” He asked. Y/N only raised her eyebrows at his question, wondering why he wanted to know.

“I doubt it’ll be soon, Though It shouldn’t be a problem.” She answered not giving him a specific answer as she herself didn’t know. Although she could tell that wasn’t the only thing he wanted to ask her about.

Now that they were finally walking up to the room where both their parents were they only remained silent, not bothering to even make a sound.

Todoroki opened the sliding door as the attention was turned on the two that had just walked in.

“Oh Y/N, I’m glad to see you. I heard what happened, how are you feeling?” Endeavour asked giving her what seemed to be a fake warm smile.

Watching her kneel down and place a cup of tea on the small, black, square coasters on the tatami table they sat. It didn’t take long for Todoroki to join and sit by his father.

“I’m fine, thank you.” She said before turning and sitting down beside her father.

“Actually Y/N, why don’t you take a walk with Shoto. Enji and I have some things to discuss?” Y/N’s father, Tajima asked his daughter his soft smile in full view.

She only responded in a nod as she had gotten up from her spot and headed outside once again with her finance following behind like her was told.

He was quietly following her, leading them both at the training grounds her and Izuna were at before.

“Uchiha, when did you obtain your sharingan?” He questioned suddenly not wanting to admit that he had been thinking of what Kurogiri said during the USJ incident.

She paused surprised at the sudden question he had just asked. Though truth is she wasn’t quite sure why he even cared about knowing.

She then stepped down the engawa and headed to the middle of the training grounds turning back to him.

“Alright, let’s have a little wager.” She said as it sounding more like a statement than a question.

“A wager??” He tilted his head unsure and quite curious of what she spoke of.

“A little competition, A hand to hand combat battle. You win I’ll answer.” Seems like it was clear that she wasn’t satisfied with her and izuna’s fight.

Then again, she really could be doing this to see the use of the number two heroes son. She had heard of him possessing two quirks but his psychical combat skills were never spoken of.

“I see, and if you win?” He interrogated not wanting to agree to something he might horribly regret.

“I won’t answer.” She responded, rolling her eyes under the bandages. She didn’t bother, not wanting to hear another word as she once again got in her Muay Thai stance.

The instant Todoroki had gotten in a fighting stance the Uchiha rushed running to him not allowing him any time to prepare.

She started off with a fake hook which distracted the male allowing her bend her knees to level change then closing the distance.

She placed her left shoulder under his underarm as her right arm was above his left shoulder. Closing the distance between her hands holding it there for control purposes.

She then stepped through and kicked the back knee of his left leg which then picks Todoroki up and lands him to the ground. From here Y/N continued to use the Kata Gatame to control Todoroki but not strangle him.

While being pinned down and basically strangled by her he was able to see her the sleeve of her shoulder slightly slip down.

His eyes widened to see a type of three tomoe tatto similar to her sharingan that was on the end of her neck. Specially on the left side of her body.

He was brought back to reality as she instead chose to stay on top of him, putting her head on his head, keeping the inside knee to his hip. She only now tucked her elbow under his head making an angle.

“Well that’s surprising, this technique is supposed to be used for humans. Not beasts like you.” She smirked with her grip only tightening as they stayed in the Kata Gatame hold.

“You’re one to talk..” he muttered his fingers digging into her right arm trying to get her arms off his throat since he was now slightly struggling to breathe.

She then rolled off of him getting up from the floor and letting him lift his back of the floor as he stayed seated on the ground using his hand to rub his throat.

“I defend myself assuming you’re coming at me with. everything you got. Otherwise, what’s the point?” She started placing her hand on her hip.

“Though, you’re definitely better than me with strength. I’ll give that.” She added before turning around and grabbing a spare water bottle that was kept in her home’s training ground.

“If strength is a factor, then why am I on the ground and you’re still standing?” He complained seeming rather irritated.

He now watched the girl come back with the water bottle before handing it to him. Accepting her gesture and getting up from the ground to drink the water he was given.

Although he couldn’t see Y/N’s eyes he could feel her stare as he drank the water with his eyes shut.

“I didn’t throw you using my strength.” She muttered gaining the full attention of the male as he wiped the drop of water from his mouth.

“It’s a technique used to protect yourself against an opponent stronger than you.” She added before getting into Muay Thai stance once again.

“If I were you, I’d think about learning it.” Y/N finished letting Todoroki actually prepare himself this time and not catching him off guard.

“I’ll preform it one last time, you better take notice of every detail about this.” With that time began to pass quickly soon finding themselves training together.

Since Todoroki had gotten the hang of it quite quickly she had let him take a break as he now sat down on the engawa taking heavy breaths.

“You asked about the sharingan, right?” Y/N asked, not only him but herself too, was surprised when she brought it up again.

“Yeah..” He whispered, though since he lost their little ‘wager’ he doubted him finding something interesting she would tell him.

He drank from his water bottle while his eyes traced Y/N who stood on the ground of him as she picked up rocks from the ground and threw them against the targets that hung from the tree.

He was quite impressed with everything the girl had done today. She wasn’t even able to see but managed to take him down and get most of the rocks to hit her targets.

“When I was younger, specifically during the Uchiha warring states period. I awoke the sharingan, after cutting ties with my best friend that was a Senju.” She explained.

His eyes widened upon hearing this. Didn’t the Uchiha and Senju have a long history of battle?? Yet her best friend was a Senju.

“I met him at a river, I usually found myself training at or going for fresh air. When he first introduced himself, he didn’t mention he wasn’t a Senju and I didn’t mention I was an Uchiha.” Thinking of the man she respected more than ever.

“That allowed me to be vulnerable and develop a relationship with him.” Todoroki could tell she was actually being sincere which was something he indeed did not expect from her.

“With each time we met, we became closer.” She said while Todoroki drawls, eyes flitting around her.

“I only found out he was a Senju when both my father and brother had looked into him and told me. Then planning a way to Conner him and gain intel.” Uchiha recalled as the memories were quite clear to her.

“On the same day the Senju had coincidently planned the same thing wanting to use us for intel aswell.” The ruthless chill of being utterly traumatised plagued her.

“On that day my younger brother; Izuna was almost killed. With that my sharingan was awakened.” She muttered. Todoroki paused thinking back to what Kurogiri said about the clan’s curse and sharingan activation.

“Then coming to realising all dreams and visions we had planned were only childish thoughts. Soon we had ended our friendship now only seeing each other when it was on the battlefield.” She finished throwing her last stone on the target not wanting to look at her future husband. Only giving him a view of her side profile.

Realistically she surprised herself since she revealed so much, after all she was known for being quite intimidating and hard to approach.

“The Uchiha and Senju’s war history is practically gone now right? Don’t you think you could see him again?” Todoroki asked, feeling sorry for her. Also from the sounds of her story the Senju boy she spoke off seemed like he deeply cared for her.

“I won’t forgive anyone who hurts my brother. No matter who they are.” She sighed. Little did she know Izuna was indeed laying her head against the shut door listening to there conversation.

She now turned Todoroki signalling for him to get up and head back inside. Not finding a need for any more training. Walking into the home and going back to the room where Tajima and Endeavour sat.

As they walked in the homes hallways they saw their parents walking around as well catching them by surprise.

“Oh Shoto and Y/N, great timing. We were just about to leave.” Endeavour smiled. The two Teenagers stayed behind the adults with Tajima guiding them towards the home’s entrance for their leaving.

Before leaving the house, Todoroki turned to the girl who bowed at him. Although his father only angrily sweatdropped seeing his son not bow back and only walk out their home heading to the car.

Todoroki was now sat in the car with his father not bothering to look at his dad as he instead just looked through the window ignoring him as per usual.

“Y’know Shoto, Y/N is a honourable child that belongs to the Uchiha clan.” Endeavour started as he continued to drive knowing whatever he might say will most likely not change his son’s opinion.

“I’ve not only been told but been shown that she is a genius born with inherit shinobi talent. Being able to take down capable adults without any trouble.” His father added. Now that he thought about it. She was something else being able to do so much blindfolded. Not to mention she stayed standing longer than him even though she was the injured one.

“I’m not saying that you should praise her. But at least a small amount of respect is necessary.” He finished before the two of them stayed quiet for the rest of his car ride.

❗️ Actor Jes Jespipat was announced as the replacement for Build Jakapan in the upcoming Be On Cloud BL 4 Minutes. B. previously withdrew from the project after a defamation lawsuit involving him and his ex girlfriend in 2023. The project is now in production and will likely air towards the end of the year.

❗️ Actor Maiake Kandis announced his withdrawal from the upcoming BL Red Peafowl. He was originally cast as one of the leads, being paired with Dollar Patchara. He later came forward saying his statement was fake news and that he is in fact not withdrawing. He also said he does not know if or when the production will start.

❗️ Former GMMTV actor Fluke Pusit (The Shipper, The Warp Effect) was announced as the lead actor in the upcoming BL Your Dear Daddy. He will star alongside Poonpun Jitaboon, an air date is unknown.

❗️ Domundi actors TutorYim (Cutie Pie, Middlemans Love) were announced as the leads in the upcoming BL Battle of the Writers. The show will be produced by Hydroindus Entertainment and is based on the Chinese novel "The Great Battle of Games". ❗️ Lay Talay and Perth Nakhun (My Engineer) reunited for a mini series called Your Tie is Crooked, consisting of 3 episodes à 2 minutes. It was released on the Japanese streaming platform TVer on March 11th.

❗️ The premiere of the upcoming BL Wuju Bakery has been postponed to September. It was originally scheduled to air in March, though due to an increase of the episode length and general production upscaling, the original air date is no longer realizable, according to the production.

❗️ Change 2561 (Pit Babe) announced an upcoming original BL called This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans. Sailub and Pon (AlanJeff in PB) will star as the lead couple, alongside GarfieldBenz and others. A first trailer was released on March 20th.

❗️ Actor Yoon Phusanu revealed that he has left his management under Y Entertainment, following a dispute about his appearance in the 2023 Thai BL For Him. In a press conference he stated that the production cut his part completely and refused to pay him in the process. Main actors Dew N. and Tor A. later disclosed that they also encountered the issue of not receiving payment for their work from the company, along with accusations of se*ual assault from members of the production team. In an official statement Y Entertainment clarified they would transfer the actor's salaries as soon as possible.

WIP Wednesday

(I was tagged by @beanarie and @bidisasterevankinard thanks you two beautiful, wonderful people!) - here’s a little sneak peek at just one part of this chapter 🥴

One hour later and one hour until showtime and the guests start arriving. It’s a full house. There are so many people who love his babies. Tommy watches as each arrival seeks them out, grabbing them up and hugging them. The twins squeal and laugh, and his heart is absolutely overflowing.

Bobby and Athena come in with arms full of gifts that match his mom’s pile, and he sees Evan groan and grumble— again not willing to actually complain to the culprit but Tommy is sure he’ll hear about it after the party.

Chris, Denny, and Mara take charge of keeping the younger kids occupied, with May and Ravi keeping a close eye on them all from where they are having a conversation on the couch. (It was one time! Chris argues— but a one time Baby Muay Thai Battle was more than enough.) So they are reduced to letting Jee and Ro dress them up; Jee teaches her little apprentice how to clip the barrettes in their hair and by the end there is a room full of princesses— plus King Ravi and Queen May. Tommy makes sure to snap plenty of pictures of the royal crowd from where everyone else is talking in the dining room while the food gets brought out.

Yeah man when people started slamming that Thai zoo it kinda set off alarm bells for me regarding the zoo around the place I grew up in the gulf. The zoo I used to go too would rehouse exotic animals seized from people because there was a huge exotic pet problem in the area, and the place was trained in rehabilitating, training, and housing them, and had tightly supervised animal interactions where you could buy treats from little stands and toss them into the enclosures to watch zebras gobble up grass or what have you. They also have restaurants where you can interact with the apex predators, where one half of the table was behind the glass so they could hop up and watch you eat if they wanted, and the tiger enclosure had these little nooks in the glass where you could sit with them without them being able to get to you.

They also had this grizzly bear, who was 40 years old. Now, grizzlies live for about 20 years, so he was an old boy. He was slow and a bit lethargic and they built him his own separate enclosure with enrichment toys that were easier on his old joints so the other bears wouldn't play so rough with him. He loved to sit like a person and watch the people who came to see him, he reportedly loved people watching and was content to do it all day, so they made the platform more visible for him to see everyone and put up a sign saying that he loves to "talk," so say hi! And when you'd wave and shout "hi!" he'd happily call back to you.

On a school field trip once the keepers told us that they crush up bear painkillers in his food and mash it up a bit so it's easier for him to tear up and chew, and his old joints don't ache. They also told us that he must be very happy and well taken care of to live for so long, and we could all tell how much love they had for him and how much special attention they paid to him.

And then an american tourist took a photo of him and spread it around, claiming he was an abused animal who should be euthanized. And everybody just believed them because the zoo was in the middle east, saying that his enclosure was "too small" (it wasn't, it was specially built for a bear with limited mobility), that he was being forced to interact with people (he wasn't, the zoo responded to the social behavior he willingly participated in), and their proof was the photo of him sitting and looking up at them. And I suddenly had to see a bunch of westerners who would probably call the entire gulf a dangerous war zone calling for him to be put down for his own good, acting like this bear was so hard done by and knew nothing but suffering and likened him to a circus animal being forced to perform for human amusement. And acted like anyone who visited could full on pet adult tigers with no supervision because of the animal interaction aspect

Pre-Relationship

They become fast friends, they hang out a lot, they call each other at odd hours.

Reid gets Morgan into Star Trek by making him watch Deep Space Nine. Morgan would fight god for Captain Sisko.

They fall into bed sometime in season 1, and keep doing so on and off for years while their feelings brew.

Reid wakes up alive after the events of Amplification with Morgan by his bedside, and they have a conversation full off feelings. They become "official" here.

Newly Established

They can both cook; Reid looked after his mother and went to college young, Morgan's dad cooked, and Morgan followed his example.

Nobody proposes moving in together officially, Reid just spends less and less time at his apartment until the lease runs out. He mentions it to Morgan quite matter of factly, and Morgan shrugs, smiles, pulls his pretty boy in for a kiss. "Most of your books are here already."

A morning where they don't have to work goes like this: Morgan gets up early to go for a run with Clooney. By the time he's back, Reid is making is making them breakfast. They eat, and then shower together.

Morgan has a decent vinyl collection and likes to listen to them on chill evenings. Reid is a musical sponge, and if he gets a chance when they're on cases, will seek out record shops for something interesting or rare.

Their favourite takeout is Thai. Reid is one of those "white guy with spice tolerance" outliers.

Well Established

It takes some time for them to switch to using first names in private, Morgan takes significantly longer. It's not a problem, they've known and loved each other a long time with these names. Neither of them shorten each other's names.

Clooney is a K9 dropout, and highly trainable, and Reid teaches him a lot of silly tricks. He likes to show Clooney magic tricks.

One of the properties Morgan buys has a decrepid grand piano in it. He gets it restored for Reid, who's dabble with learning on and off. He plays the piano every day.

Morgan thinks Reid doesn't really believe in marriage as an institution, and is okay with that, they don't have to get married, even if they could. Reid proposes to Morgan one morning in shower.

Reid never gets an official autism dignosis, wanting the plausible deniability while working for the goverment. They talk about it. Morgan starts packing a weighted blanket in his go-bag for him (people often ask why his go back is so heavy).

The Future

They get married once it's legal, a simple ceremony but all their important people are there.

When they leave the BAU it's a joint decision. They're both ready for a new adventure, with less actual threat of bodily harm.

Morgan goes into property full time, flipping houses and rent-to-buying them to local people/families, instead of selling them to landlord who will end up pushing locals out of the area.

Reid goes into research/lecturing.

They move to Chicago to be closer to family. They move Diana to be close them them too.

As Reid gets older, he has to use a cane more. His migranes are mostly under control, but eventually he experiences migralepsy (migraine seizures). The dog they get after Clooney passes becomes Reid's service dog.

The Future (with kid)

Reid carries (he's trans). It's an unplanned pregnancy, but they go for it. Reid is terrible at being pregnant.

They have a daughter they name Sam after Morgan's dad (bc I chose this fanon name years before CM bothered to give Morgan's dad a canon name and I am sticking with it out of spite).

Morgan's sisters teach Reid to do Sam's hair.

Morgan is very involved when sam becomes a Girl Scout, and coaches her softball team.

Reid teaches her piano. They read together every day.

They struggle not to intefer when she's a teen and it becomes apparent the girl she keeps bringing home is her first crush.

The thing is that i have just finished my internship at a hospital, i was there for a full year, barely existing at all and without seeing my family nor friends, but now i'm a doctor yay. BL recs from July 2023 to now

A lot of things have happened. There's so much BL out there that you'll have to pick and choose what to see. So I'll give you my favorites and I'll highlight some that have gained attention and praise

Laws of Attraction

You might recognize them from the bl lakorn Khun Chai. They had a very nice comeback with this legal adventure (or however you wanna call it) show. It has a righteous mourning uncle, an unhinged and shameless lawyer and a very nice grandma. Nice side couple too. A crazy lawyer works together with a righteous man to get justice for the killing of the righetous man's niece.

Be My Favorite

You might already know this one. We were all pleasently surprised by Krist's BL comeback. A great show overall. It was one of the interesting ones that stood it's ground until the end from GMMtv. A man gets a time traveling decive and ends up getting a partner.

Taikan Yohou/My Personal Weatherman

One of my favorites of 2023. To this day I'm still obessing over them. A Must Watch. Japanese BL with BDSM dynamics between the leads. Great and amazing overall. If you don't know what to start with, start with this one! A porn manga artist cohabitates with a weatherman. He takes care of the house chores in exchange for not paying rent. And they have sex whenever it's sunny outside.

I Feel You Linger In The Air

This one has become a classic. It's historical, it has angst and it makes you feel things all the way through. An architect gets thrown into the past and falls for an aristocrat. Time travel and reincarnation stuff is happening.

Love in Translation

The first series that gave us the amazing pair that is DaouOffroad. Lakorn vibes with some iconic NC scenes. A chinese immigrant needs a Thai patner to open his conveniece shop, but they don't really like each other. Shenanigans ensue.

Kimi to Nara Koi wo Shite mo ii / If it's with you (aka NaraKoi)

A nice and warm Japanese mini series. These two are the sweetest and cutest babies. They deserve everything. It's once again Japan doing its thing. Teenager love in a very fluffy way. A young gay boy moves to his grandmother's house and gives a chance to love when he meets the nicest local boy.

Utsukushii Kare Eternal - The Movie

If you're a fan of UtsuKare, know that the movie was released for international audiences. It was a great watch and a nice ending for this series.

7 Days Before Valentine

This one I think you might like. It's has the same director as 180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us. Similarly not a lot of people watched it, but those who did had quite a treat. A supernatural being appears in front of our protagonist when he's heartbroken and tells him he can erase whomever he likes from this earth.

Ossan's Love Returns

Talented, Brilliant, Incredible, Amazing, Show stopping, Spectacular, Never the same, Totally unique. We LOVED this show. No need to have seen the first season to watch this one. Just about people and their relationships, and loving each other. Big BIG recommendation. Haruta and Maki have trouble adjusting to living together as a couple and end up getting a helper in the house, who just happens to be Chief Kurosawa.

Love for Love's Sake

Lately Korea has been doing great things. This was tiny show that broke and healed our hearts. Pain and happiness hand in hand, with a happy ending. Very deep messages about loving oneself and others. A guy enters a game where he has to make the main character happy.

Unkown

I haven't seen it yet but everybody was loving it on tumblr. It seems to be a solid show that nails the landing. We say "thank you Taiwan". The love story between two brothers (not by blood) who struggle with their feelings for one another.

25ji Akasaka de / At 25:00 in Akasaka

Another Highlight form Japan (am I biased?). It's got 2 emotionally stupid men feeling big feelings and hiding them constantly. Misunderstandings of the good kind and a satisfactory ending. It's so good. Two actors that used to be in the same Uni are now playing lovers in a show, and decide to pretend to be lovers to get into the roles.

Century of Love

We got DaouOffroad back at it again. Giving us a great lakorn-y fantasy show. With some iconic side characters and everything one can love and get from a reincarnation love story plot. A young man's lover dies protecting him on the night they were escaping her imposed marriage, so he uses the power of a goddess to stay alive for the next 100 years vowing to find her again and fulfill their love. Or he dies. But when he finally founds her, she is now a man.

Mr Mitsuya's Planned Feeding

Another Japanese highlight. We got a great cast, great food, great characters, and a great plot. Great stuff overall. We have an age gap romance with a charming middle aged man and an earnest young man. A newbie magazine reporter gets to eat the food made by the renowned cook who's articles he's publishing. Feelings ensue.

4 Minutes

Another iconic show. It was the latest Be On Cloud project. Great production and interesting premise. The ending was a bit weak but it did give us some unforgetable scenes. Involving Bible's things. Pretty nice. A rich brat suddenly has the power to see 4 minutes into the future. There's also muder mysteries.

Happy Of The End

Japan being great again. Another one to the pile of unforgetables. This was such an amazing show. Sad hopeless people finding one another and giving each other a reason to live. A guy who sleeps around to live in his lovers's houses get beaten up by another dude and ends up deciding to follow him.

Jack & Joker

The long awaited return of YinWar. It ended recently, so you might be aware of it. Based on an MV they did a while ago they finally got to produce the series. Despite it not being perfect it was great and a fun time. Joke is a thief and cons naive Jack in his youth. Years later after getting out of prison he want to make it up to Jack, but he wants nothing from him and is now a ruthless debt collector.

Let Free The Curse of Taekwondo

The new series from the one and only Hwang Da Seul, Korea's bestest (to my star, etc). A show that had us stuck to the screen for weeks. Here we have a painful love story between two flawed people who despite their surrounding dificulties manage to find their little bubble of peace with each other.

Love In The Big City

This one is a rare thing from Korea. Based on an (almost?) autobiographic novel of the same name it shows us the love life of a gay man in Seoul, and the hardships that come with it. Pretty groundbreaking.

Other remarkable series from Thailand

Wedding Plan: a series from Mame, that has a very different vibe from her usual stuff.

La Pluie: A great show with an interesting side couple. I didn't love it all the way throught but it was a great production and has been widely discussed on tumblr. 🌟

Only Friends: you probably know of this one in one way or another. P'Jojo's show about messy gays. It gave a lot to talk about and everybody has different opinions on the ending. But, for me, the particular highlight was Neo's character, Boston. 🌟

Be Mine Superstar: If you're a fan of JaFirst, know that they did another show. It was cute but not as intense as their other stuff, with very different characters.

Naughty Babe: The long awaited story of MaxNat's couple from Cutie Pie. It was exacrly what was expected and had some iconic CGI and plot points xD

Twins: A less-known and smaller production. FrameRyan gave us great chemistry in a volleyball court with some questionable plot points. But hopefully we will see them again in something else. (also height gap)

Last Twilight: P'Aof's latest project. Looked very promising but the ending was very unsatisfactory. It did the rounds on tumblr but we were all left with a bitter taste in the mouth because of some plot choices.

The Sign: An ambitious project with fantasy and the police. Genres that require a thourough planning and might not have been totally up to the task. However, no other BL has had this type of mythological fantasy before and we got a lot of iconic characters, good and evil, and iconic butts in showers. BillyBabe are now a well know ship. A great watch too. 🌟

Pit Babe: The 1st live action Omegaverse! Wow, what a ride. It was a lot. The omegaverse traits were tweaked enough for it to work out. Unforgetable for many reasons. Pretty good. 🌟

Playboyy: This show was about sex workers and sex. And a dissappearance. I ddin't get to watch it but it was another one of those shows we won't forget for a while.

Cooking Crush: One of the 2 OffGun shows we got. It was cute and fluffy. Not my cup of tea but a lot of people seemed to like it.

Cherry Magic Thailand: The return of TaiNew. It was a great success and they managed to tell the story in a very Thai way, with some very funny scenes.

Dead Friend Forever: Be On Cloud's other project that was released. It shares a lot of its cast with 4minutes and we got a bunch of interesting pairs and actors from it. Drugs, murder and revenge. Interesting to say the least. 🌟

1000 Years Old: Another small production. Featuring a very nice vampire that only wants to find love and show off his umbrellas. It was very cute. Similar to IWKY in vibes.

Knock Knock Boys: Another show that made the rounds around tumblr. The couples were cute and we now love Almond and Latte. Recomended if you want nice fluffy times.

Love Sea: The show that features FortPeat (from LITA) as the main couple. It's adapted from a Mame novel so it has her usual tropes. I think it was overall liked.

The Trainee: The 2nd OffGun show we got this year. It was a great ride with a somewhat ok closure. Very nice way to learn about filming productions.

Two Worlds: Another show made by MaxNat, parallel dimensions, incurable sicknesses and gangsters. It was fun but also confusing. Had a bunch of nice parts.

I Saw You In My Dream: Small production with a bit of a supernatural plot. I haven't finished it yet but what I saw I liked.

The Hidden Moon: Another small production, that I think only one person I follow was posting about it. It has ghosts and supernatural stuff, and it seems to have been pretty great and emotional.

Monster Next Door: This show is a very traditional boys in uni type of show between an introvert and an extrovert. It gave us the pair BigPark who are now getting a second show.

Every You Every Me: Also finished recently it's a show that tells a lot of different love stories but with the same actors. Pretty interesting watch.

Other remarkable series from Japan

One room angel: A heartbreaking story of 2 people finding each other. An angel with no memories and a lowlife. It made us cry, and holds a special place in my heart. 🌟

I Became The Main Role in a BL: Cute, short and fun. Lots of pinning. The happy comedy version of At 25 in Akasaka

Perfect Propose: A cute show about an overworked salary man and his childhood friend who's crashing at his house. It was cute.

Cosmetic Playlover: The story between 2 make up artists and their rivalry turned love story. It had some nice moments, but isn't the best ever.

Takara's Treasure: This one also made the rounds on tumblr. Hiking, a social awkward junior in love with his cool senior. Cute overall, with some deep feelings as Japan knows how to do.

I Cannot Reach You/ Kimi ni wa Todokanai: A guy discovers his closest friend is in love with him and panics, but might also be ok with the idea. It was very cute and emotional. 🌟

Living with him: Two childhood friends who move in together to attend university. One has been in love since forever and the other is discovering feelings. Similar vibes to I Cannot Reach You. 🌟

Hidamari ga Kikoeru/I Hear the Sunspot: Had a solid start but kinda fell apart towards the end, sadly.

Other remarkable series from Korea

Sing My Crush: I haven't seen this yet, but I've seen it be praised over and over. Teens and music. It looks great. 🌟

Love Class s2: This one is not related to its first season, and it has a bunch of couples and a lot of iconic scenes. It is also pretty short.

Why R U Korea: I haven't seen this one yet either, and despite the low buget it seems it's pretty good.

They also have been doing a lot of reel format miniseries, and webseries like Blue Boys and Grey Shelter.

Other remarkable series from Taiwan

Kiseki: Dear to me: This was pretty talked about, the second couple ate.

First note of love: Cute, seen before faces making a comeback.

The on1y one: Made everyone insane. The ending was open, hoping for a second season. Some people were pissed.

Things that have happened since July 2023

I recommend checking the tag doreen's monthly bl breakdown where you will find, at the end of every post, the news of the month related to the BL industry. But here are some news I think are pertinent to recent days...

Big unforgettable stuff

The same sex marriage law passed in Thailand!

We're getting a second season of Pit Babe! And everyone is equaly curious and worried.

Minato's Laundromat Season 2 started as a very nice season until halfway through it went sideways because of an amnesia plot.

In a surprising turn of events Tul (from MaxTul who left for the US) and Mew (from TharnType) revealed they were dating and recently got engaged.

GMMTV actors stuff

JoongDunk (who I'm assuming you know of), our guys from Hidden Agenda (which was an ok show with some great scenes but a bit forgetable) have been getting a lot of traction are getting a lot of series. I am loving them in The Heart Killers.

There was a sudden transfer of most of the WabiSabi actors to GMMTV. BounPrem, Ohm and Sammy are there. GMMTV also took charge of some of their projects, like the vampire BounPrem one.

The couples in My Rommance Scammer are Ohm (form uwma) and Fluke (from My Ride), and JuniorMark (whothe side couple in Cherry Magic Th and are starring in Perfect 10 Liners.

Dangerous Romance looked promising but it got lost in itself and not even Chimon and Perth could save it. Unfortunately a disappointment. Also, Chimon is on leave for mental health issues, so now Perth is paired up with Santa (from My Only 12%). They're starring in Perfect 10 Liners (where Chimon was supposed to appear but not anymore) and have their own show for 2025: Love You Teacher.

The mains in GMMTV 2025 Head 2 Head, SeaKeen, debuted previously on Only Boo this year. And it was particularly well received, hence why they got a second show.

The main leads for Memoir of Rati are GreatInn who previously starred in Wandee Goodday. Solid start. Weak end. The highlight was the side couple with ThorFluke. Fluke is also starring in one of the stories of Mu Te Luv.

GeminiFourth, from MSP, did the Thai adaptation of My Love Mix Up Th but I think most of us dropped it halfway through.

Recently the show Kidnap ended, featuring Ohm with his new partner Leng. The show was silly and unserious but I think a lot of people dropped it. I didn't watch, but I think it had some success. They appear in GMMTV 2025's OF: Dream on and Mu Te Luv.

Singto is back in GMMtv and scheduled to have a show with Krist again called the Ex Morning.

P'New has made a bunch of show that were disappointing and for GMMTV he had made to ensemble shows: We Are and Perfect 10 Liners. Featuring a lot of couples. In We Are we had PondPhuwin, WinnySatang (from MSP, also have their own show in GMMTV2025), AouBoom, and MarcPoon. In Perfect 10 Liners we have BookForce, PerthSanta, JuniorMark and MarcPoon. Marc got paired up with Poon after the Pawin got accused of physical abuse.

We're still waiting on a lot of shows that were announce in GMMTV 2024's event, so I'm sure you can check the trailers of the ones that haven't been released yet. Or wait until we get the official trailers.

Domundi's stuff

Bed Friend was a success and we got the ship NetJames from it. Until James decided to pursue other things and Net is now with a new partner and they will appear in The Next Prince (the new ZeeNew show, with european royalty looks we're all looking forward to. Also Jimmy is back with a new partner too)

Middleman's Love and Battle of the Writers are 2 shows that starred TutorYim, who were a side couple in Cutie Pie. They've gotten pretty famous.

Other news

We were all hyped for the show Shadow, starring Singto and Fluke (from uwma). The first half was promising but iirc the second part was a little disappointing. I couldn't finish it due to Real Life interruptions.

Ohm (from uwma) starred in a show called Bake me Please, with Guide (who played a side character in I Feel You Linger in the Air) which was ok. In that show we also got to meet Poom, as the rejected second lead.

Poom was the main character of a show called My Stand In, paired with Up (from Lovely Writer) and they play the toxic love between a stunt man and a selfish rich guy.

Tunku Shower no longer exists, it became a different project. No we get our montly japanese bl throught different companies.

China dared to do Wuxia BL with Meet You At The Blossom.

Derived from the succes of Pit Babe, the side couple got they own show in This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans. It was okey.

Thailand did some more adaptations of other countries BL like Addicted Heroin Th. And a remake of Lovesick is still airing.

Ending remarks

Since you've watched a lot of kdrama, what are common things you've seen in kdrama that have been consistently ported into K-BL, and what is your assessment of that approach?

Ooh, interesting question. So first, let's acknowledge a few things:

Korean bl is short format, with even the longest shows (Light on Me, The Eighth Sense) not even half the length of a standard kdrama (16-20 hours), and most clocking in around 2-4 hours

Kbl operates under much smaller budgets and significant constraints around casting as compared to mainstream kdrama

Kbl often draws from webtoons and manwha and mostly does not have the kind of auteur writers and directors behind it that you get in kdrama (Hwang Da-Seul is the most consistent creator in genre with Where Your Eyes Linger, Blueming, To My Star)

All that said, there are a few features of mainstream kdrama that have definitely ported over into kbl despite these constraints:

Slick production values and strong use of setting and color: even the cheapest kbls still look decent, and there is always intentionally behind the setting and use of color palettes to set the tone and feel. Korea has a very well-developed film industry and it shows. Color Rush, Semantic Error and Blueming were fantastic examples of this: even within more familiar school romances, the settings felt specific and the use of color to communicate character and themes was striking. I also think often of Our Dating Sim and Choco Milk Shake and the very effective characterization work achieved through design of the apartments.

Sound production and music on point: the home of kpop is not going to be caught sleeping on the OSTs. Nearly every production has original songs and given the leads of these shows are usually idols, they're often the ones on the tracks. And when they use music that is not original, like in The Eighth Sense, it's a very intentional choice to set mood and tone. Korea is not going to let a boy who can't actually sing take the mic (*side eyes Thailand*). To My Star is a great example of memorable OSTs even in a fairly low budget production, and Wish You and Sing My Crush showed us what kbl can do when it decides to bring the full kpop treatment to bear.

A keen understanding of the international audience: kdrama production is a big part of South Korea's explicit goals to take the global media landscape by storm, and kbl is included in that. It's not a coincidence that Korea decided to step up its game in this arena shortly after Thai bl exploded (shoutout to 2gether and pandemic lockdowns). Kbl follows trends and explicitly caters to international audiences in a way jbl does not. The Eighth Sense was basically a case study in marrying kdrama sensibilities and western aesthetics for maximum international attention.

Second leads and valorization of unrequited love: you and I have discussed this one a lot because this is a feature of kdramas that will never die and that kbls also clearly love. Korea loves a one-sided love story and culturally, there is a certain dignity afforded to owning your feelings and being honest with the object of your affection, even when there is no hope of reciprocation. Often second leads don't get the guy/girl because they hesitate or hide their feelings until it's too late: the trope is used to underline the important of honesty and effort as well as providing a catalyst for the main lead to make their move. In Korean culture, the trying is what matters much more than the succeeding. We are meant to like most second leads and see them as honorable and dignified for their sincere feelings toward the protagonist. Second lead syndrome is a thing for a reason. It's also just a cheap and easy way to create drama so you'll often see it in the lower budget kbls. Second leads showed up recently in kbls like The Tasty Florida, Jun & Jun, Oh! Boarding House, Bon Appetit, etc. We also sometimes see kbls playing with the idea of unrequited love in the main pairing that is actually requited, like in Our Dating Sim.

Love triangles: relatedly, Korea loves them a love triangle, and they are uniquely good at doing it well when they want to. Light on Me is a fantastic example of a narrative where you can legitimately see the protagonist liking and ending up with both the main and second lead. And that is rooted in the way the narrative treats Daon with dignity even as it punishes him for his hesitation in reciprocating Taekyung's feelings (see above). When you have a strong second lead who engenders real sympathy with the audience, love triangle excellence is achieved.

Workplace romances: kdrama loves workplace romances, and we have seen kbl start to move into that space recently with shows like Roommates of Poongdock 304, Love Mate, Our Dating Sim, Jun & Jun, and The New Employee. Kdrama workplace romances run the gamut, but they often feature chaebol characters paired with a "normal" aka not wealthy person, and we are starting to see that more in the bl genre as well, as we discussed a bit yesterday. I believe @nieves-de-sugui commented on your post about how the rich/poor romance fantasy trend in recent bl may be coming in from kdrama. I think there's some truth to that, but really it's a foundational romance trope that predates kdrama by literal centuries, and is absolutely rooted in heteronormative patriarchal dynamics that assume men are breadwinners and caretakers for women (translated to seme/uke dynamics in bl). Often in kdrama the chaebol character is unable to live an authentic life due to the demands of filial piety and the expectations tied to their wealth, and I do think that dynamic is ripe for enrichment when you layer on gay identity in a homophobic society. But that requires shows leaving the no homophobia bubble, which few kbls have done.

Physical intimacy squarely in the middle space: comparing to heat levels we see across the spectrum of dramas, I think kdrama and kbl are pretty consistent in that they tend to land right in the middle of the spectrum. It's rare to see straight up dead fish kisses from romantic leads anymore (though it still happens, wincing at Unintentional Love Story), but they are also not going to be serving authentic sex scenes. What you get instead is very pretty open-mouthed kissing that feels more realistic than, for instance, the pure jbl lane, but still polished and aesthetically pleasing. Think Semantic Error, Blueming, Roomates of Poongdock 304, Love Mate, To My Star 2, Jun & Jun. This seems to be where the genre is landing and I don't expect heat levels to get any higher for kbl, as this is right in line with mainstream kdrama. The Eighth Sense offered a less polished version of intimacy that felt right in line with its grittier sensibilities.

So, after that long list, on to your second question: my assessment of this approach is that kbls are doing fairly well for themselves when you consider the constraints they are operating under. Look at a show like Love Tractor stacked up against something like Hometown Cha Cha Cha. These are both based in the classic romance trope of a city slicker coming to the country and falling in love with a humble working person. But where HCCC has 16 hours to build a quasi-enemies to lovers narrative with a rich community of side characters, LT has 3.5 hours to achieve the same thing. So it makes sense that it would fall back on well-worn tropes and story beats it knows the audience will recognize to help save time. These shortcuts help the audience ground themselves and get invested in the stories quickly.

One thing I'll say is that kbl mostly stays in the romcom lane with very occasional ventures into melo, and despite what casual observers think, kdrama actually has a lot more to offer than that. It's a giant world with stories based in every possible genre, tone, and style, and Korean media is particularly adept at embedding romance plots that actually work in all kinds of stories including action thrillers, horror, crime narratives, mysteries, supernatural and fantasy epics. I'd love to see kbl try this, though of course it would require the resources and runtime to do it successfully. Here's hoping they get the chance.

PREVIEW IS SHOWING THEIR FAVORITE EPISODE

I've just watched an interview where Jimmy and Sea told that episode 9 is their favorite. Well, then it's a perfect moment to analyse some hints for the episode. Let's go!

1. The mind-blowing symbolism in clothing!

We've seen Day and Mhok sleeping together twice. First time it was after tennis club party and drunk_but_curious Day was wearing this white t-shirt you can see in a scene from the preview! The second time was when Day stayed overnight at Mhok's house and maybe you can't remember, but now, when they're having another night together Day's wearing pants Mhok used to wear back then at home!

So we basically have Day being quintessence of their previous bed sharing moments and I love it so damn much.

2. Sightseeing and the book

I also have some questions for these book scenes. As we already know Day and Mhok (oh, sorry, Danainat and Methas all of a sudden haha) gave this book as a present to P'On and P'Pla, but here Mhok is reading it again. Also he's reading last pages.

Could it be that Day's father have the full version of the book? It would be interesting.

I remember when I was younger I've found a book illustrated with portraits by my father. Of course it's not a coincidence and my mother just took this book with many others from their once shared home library. But what impressed me the most is that I also used to draw portraits in my uni years and it turned really good (not my words). And I have never ever learned how to do it, but even my friend who's really into art and can draw anything complimented one of my work.

I'm curious what Day can have from his father he can't even remember.

3. Fading reality

It seems after having some sweet moments Day is going back to black to vision issues. This leads to him asking Mhok to go to the mountains and see that last twilight in reality. The whole series is already bittersweet and so is episode 9.

4. P'Aof and mountains

Everytime we talk about P'Aof coming back with another iconic mountain scene I remember Mix (who played Tian in a masterpiece named A tale of thousand stars) wearing a winter coat and crying behind the scenes, because they had a very emotional scene at night and it was cold in that mountains. Glad Mhok and Day have a plan to see twilight and not meteor shower haha

Studying Language

Sorry I've been rather inactive, I'm slowly trying to get back into the swing of things!

This is something I’m actually qualified to talk about! I speak three languages fluently, albeit in need of a little practise, and I’m learning one more currently, with one on pause due to time constraints. Nevertheless, I feel pretty confident in my information lol. I’m also a qualified TEFL teacher and have worked abroad teaching English!

Full immersion is the best option. The best thing you can do is spend your time in a country that speaks your target language and force yourself to learn, once you have the “Hello,” “Goodbye,” “Where is the bathroom?” all mastered. In Ireland, there are places called Gaeltachtanna where you go for different lengths of time depending on the course and live in a town speaking exclusively Irish, usually staying with an Irish-speaking family, and going to classes for the language and for games and dances. Of course, that’s not an accesible option for everyone, so you could try going to places like your nearest Asian market, Eastern European market etc, and any areas in your city with a lot of immigrants that might speak your target language. If you have friends who speak that language, natively or just to a better level than you, ask to meet them for coffee and chat as much as you can in your language.

Immersion Part Two: Culture. The people who speak your target language natively do so not just becaus that’s the place in which they exist, but because that’s the place that they live- they get their groceries there, they go to school there, and their language developed because of the day-to-day, as well as unique aspects of their culture such as dances, music, and especially food. Learn about the culture of the country or countries that speak your target language. Eg, fold a paper crane or eat sushi if your language of choice is Japanese, watch an telenovela or go to a salsa class if your goal is to learn Spanish.

Watch TV shows in your Target Language. If you can’t access the locations, and even if you can, watching TV or movies is great because it’ll help you understand the cadences of natural speech that you can’t get from a textbook or formal class situation. Start with movies you might be familiar with like Disney movies (I will die on the hill of “Mother knows Best” from Tangled is better in Spanish). You can also combine your subtitles and audio, using subtitles in your own language at first, and challenge yourself to changing the subtitle.

Similar to the above points, use YouTube or Twitch to your advantage too. That’s probably a lot easier if your target language is English, but there are creators that speak in their non-English native language too. My friend watches a Mexican Minecraft YouTuber called Quackity who has a Minecraft server modded to feature a live translator between Spanish and English, which is very cool.

Read books in your Target Language. We don’t love The Chronicles of the Boy Wizard in this house, but the books are available in 85 languages. The Hobbit also has a tonne including Cornish, Thai, and Ukranian, and Twilight has about 37 translations, just to list a few well-known examples. Learn especially about books written originally in your target language.

Consume Media Originally from the Country or Countries that Speak that Language. Read the Witcher, watch Física o Química, join the dubbed vs subbed anime bloodbath. It can be so beneficial to your understanding of a language to see how those who speak it write it themselves, not just for localisation purposes. It can especially be useful for slang and dialects.

Duolingo and other apps. I’m swiftly approaching my 365 day duolingo streak,* and I fully intend to celebrate with pierogis and a green cake. But there are other options out there, and all of them are great for beginners. I can only speak about Duolingo as its the one I use, but I’m having a lot of fun with the layout of it. However, I do need real practice if I’m going to become actually fluent.
