countries and cities i've been to that i think the lost light crew will enjoy (vol. i)
i think ratchet would like switzerland. snowy alps, open green fields where purple and yellow poppies littered across the grass dance with the northern wind. he enjoys the secluded valleys and will spend hours just driving past the topaz lakes. he likes the quiet of it all, the serenity, the closure. he makes drift join him in their holoforms to walk, taking in the traditional log houses and brightly-colored buildings, shops, and restaurants surrounded by lush woodlands, upland meadows, and snow-capped cliffs. grindelwald because drift is fascinated by humans and their winter sports, ascona for when it gets warmer and the boats are out by the docks. in a first contact au, ratchet would most likely end up working in either zurich or geneva, working closely with earth's international bodies like the united nations to facilitate human-cybertronian relations. i can also see the medic crew stationed there as well; running the first cybertronian medical facility on earth.
drift, predictably, would prefer japan more. osaka and tokyo for its entertainment, where he and rodimus would spend hours exploring the nightlife in their disguises. at times, they would even go as their alt-modes. rodimus gets ahead of himself with all the attention he's getting. he'd travel through many prefectures, driving past the borders to clear his head — perks of having a conjunx that works closely with human organizations is that he gets exempted from all the paperwork — but always end up somewhere private, tranquil. the shrines, the forests, the mountains — he would even be bold enough to dream of settling down there. one time ratchet flew in to visit him at a resort by the foot of mount fuji, and his husband was neck-deep inside the natural saunas. content and purring, sinking into recharge against the stones.
i have a feeling brainstorm and skids would stir up trouble somewhere in the netherlands. most likely in the infamous lecture halls of leiden university, where great minds like descartes and rembrandt once walked in. they'd hate the weather, where the sun becomes optional the moment it hits autumn (even before, apparently.) the roads are small, so they'd have difficulty navigating at first, nearly driving into a canal because of how fast people bike. direct, with just the right amount of witty, the pair are glad to enjoy the company of dutchies without having to rely on their (human) food because nothing that they've seen looks appealing or digestible. getaway is also there, most likely in amsterdam, where his holoform is most likely to get cornered in an alley and have his bike stolen.
nautica would love the sea, the vast, great open oceans of southeast asia would be the perfect place for her. ever the adventurer, she would drag riptide and velocity with her to explore the islands of the philippines & indonesia. where she'd learn how to dive and swim with the animals past the coral reefs. sweet girl nearly cried when she saw a group of whale sharks. anode and lug are content sitting by the beach, sipping on their latest invention — coconut-infused energon. bali is where i imagine the girls ( and riptide ) would go for a nice getaway. the people are all smiles, warm and friendly, and passionate about their culture. even if the two are more inclined towards the sciences, the flourishing art and spirituality of the balinese people made them feel at home again. ( if not nostalgic for caminus.)
i know rodimus is living his life in spain. maybe it won't be his designated home on earth. but with the lost light stationed in geneva, where ratchet, minimus, and megatron are with the rest of the united nations council ( because there is no way they can park the ship anywhere in the new york branch ), barcelona was his first solo trip on earth without straying too far from his co-captain's watchful eye. it was the peak of summer and there he was under the sun. the people were only initially surprised, but then again, they'd probably seen weirder things than a sixty-foot-tall robot asking them if he could join their game of volley by the beach. he bumps into krok and his rag-tag team — who's also trying to get away from minimus — so that's how he and misfire end up nearly drowning after a competitive game of water tag.
#i hope these are accurate let me know if i should fix something !#dutchies i'm speaking from the heart when it comes to the food i cannot anymore live off bitterballen & haaring#nee bedankt#transformers#maccadams#drift#misfire#nautica#mtmte#skids#idw mtmte#mtmte x reader#mtmte imagine#lost light#idw transformers#transformers lost light#tf headcanons#tf imagines#tf idw#transformers headcanons#transformers hc#tf hc#lost light x reader#lost light au#getaway#brainstorm#imagine#transformers imagine

PARTIES: Ingeborg LOCATION: Wicked's Rest TIMING: Current SUMMARY: Inge leaves town
Going away had become a staple in her life from the moment she separated from Hendrik and found her way west, to Amsterdam. In the four decades that had followed, Inge had left place after place, turning her back on cities and countries with increasing ease. But it was never really easy, no matter how lackadaisical she pretended to be. It was especially hard when it didn't feel like much of a choice.
She'd been considering changing Wicked's Rest for a different city for a while now, admittedly. But the walls were closing in faster than she liked and the bloody bitemarks on her legs were just more proof of that. The amount of hunters who she figured were just lying in wait was too large as well and besides, what was there to do in this town that she could not do elsewhere? The teaching position was so-so, but it ate away from her time spent creating art. There were friends, but she had friends elsewhere too. There was the gap left behind by Debbie, a festering wound even more painful than those left by Wyatt's teeth.
It was time, the way it was always inevitably time.
It had been time, back in Antwerp, when Inge had witnessed a hunter chopping off Sanne's head. She had ran into the astral that time, rushing to a plane of existence where no axe could get to her. She had played it over and over again, that image, and only returned to their once-shared appartment to gather her most important belongings before fleeing south, to the crowds of Paris. In that capital she had stayed no longer than three months before there was the hot breath of hunters in her neck, so off to Nice she went. Bordeaux, next. Across the ocean to England and then across a larger ocean, to the Americas. In Mexico she'd enjoyed her time until her neck had been marred with the scar left there by Elena Cortez and she'd fled north again, with few belongings but her life. That was always the most precious thing to cling to.
The years had continued on, as had the places she'd come and gone. Switzerland, Venice in 2003, and then copious of European capitals as she moved through them as Nika Beinhacker, famed sculpturer. That identity had to be destroyed eventually, though, and soon enough she was herself again. Inge de Jong, returning to the Netherlands, to the hospital and running away from the scene as soon as the funeral of her only daughter was concluded.
She tried to collect something from each city, but it was not always an option. Sometimes she ran with just the clothes on her back and the few belongings in her bag, and memorabilia were discarded. These days she was clever enough to have a few storage boxes scattered around with some of her things, but even so. Things got lost in the wind.
This time, though, she was doing it right. Quick, but right. She was gathering her things, ordering a moving van to drive the most precious materials up to New York, where she'd move in with Mona and delve into the vibrant nightlife that Dance Macabre could never claim to imitate. She was trying to say goodbye, though it was never really goodbye — at least not for those who would live as long as she did. It was a good thing, that most of the people she'd learned to value in Wicked's Rest were as undead as her, but there were a few she knew would come to grow old and pass while she remained unchanging. Maybe, then, it was best to leave now, before she grew all the more fond of Anita and her mourning would weigh even heavier than it inevitably would.
And Inge intended to return periodically, she really did. As a mare it was easy to come and go as one pleased, but she needed her homebase changed. There were things lurking behind corners here. Crocodilian dreamers, hunters whose brothers she'd hurt or who'd deceived her, ghosts that killed indiscriminately. Wicked's Rest would just become a place she visited from time to time, making reappearances in the lives of Anita, Leila and Ariadne as she pleased.
So her things were packed by the movers. Her appartment was empty. Her studio sold. Her contract at the university ended. She'd seen the people she cared for one last time as an inhabitor of Wicked's Rest and left them her forwarding address. All that was left to do was get in her car and drive off.
In her car, Inge felt a level of uncertainty that came with saying goodbye. There was also, more dominantly, a feeling of concern. What if someone was to stop her from leaving now? If all her intentions to not die in this godforsaken town were for naught, and she'd still be caught underneath someone's axe or between someone's teeth or even that same sword once more? If she'd still had a functioning heart, it would have been hammering all the way through her drive out of town, but it remained as still as it always was.
It wasn't until she'd moved past the Maine stateline that she felt comfortable enough to turn up her music and sing along as loud as she could, the next destination on her horizon a mirage full of promise and potential.

Introducing: The Malevolent Tides
A Post-TLH Story - synopsis below!
Please note: The worldbuilding, TID, and TLH characters all belong to Cassandra Clare. I took the liberty to make up the children of the TLH characters (partially based off of the inaccurate Clockwork Princess family tree, but mostly from my own imagination). This story will contain spoilers for Chain of Thorns!
September, 1929: Coming of age during the mundane’s Great War and the Spanish Influenza, the young Shadowhunters of London are no strangers to demons and despair. In fact, compared to the hordes of demons attracted to Earth by the mundane conflicts of their youth, things have been relatively calm as the children grew from a troubled youth into a tentatively hopeful adolescence. Things are looking up… but little does this future “lost generation,” know, their light-hearted, wild youths are about to come to an abrupt end, as darkness and violence comes to claim the mundane - and shadow - worlds once again.
New York City, USA: Elizabeth Herondale has finally left her family’s home… and her drama with her brother, Owen, and his fiancée, Lydia, behind. Elizabeth is eager to forget her troubles in the vices that make New York City the center of the modern world; touted as a place where anyone can arrive a pauper and leave a millionaire, where women are free to move through the streets unaccompanied by men, and where illegal vices - booze, cards, jazz - are easier to find than avoid, Elizabeth is ready to relocate for good and reclaim her future. Accompanied by her intrepid parabatai and cousin, Margaret Blackthorn (who is more comfortable behind the lens of a camera than onstage in a flapper hall), Elizabeth has no plans to return to London any time soon. Then comes October, and the infamous crash of Wall Street that plunges the entire globe into economic recession. Elizabeth does not want to return home, but her and Margie might not have a choice in the matter…
Athens, Greece: Edmund Blackthorn was supposed to return to London and his family eight months ago… and he did, but something drew him back to Athens once more. Picking up his Uncle James’ love for the ancient classics from a young age, Edmund always knew he wanted to do his travel year in the center of it all: Athens, Greece. While he expected his year abroad to be full of research and sightseeing, he did not expect it to be entirely thrown off course by the witty, brilliant Cadia Sedgewick. Together, the two have uncovered an ancient mystery; while other Shadowhunters are urging them to focus on the rapidly-approaching and grim future, Edmund and Cadia are drawn further and further into the past. All the stories are true, after all, and this mystery might just be the key to aid the present and save the future.
Berlin, Germany: Owen Herondale didn’t plan to fall in love with Lydia Kingsmill… but Herondales love only once, as his father and grandfather told him from the time he was young, and Lydia was the only one for him. The Treaty of Versailles that ended the mundane Great War has thrust Germany into despair, and the Shadowhunters of the German institutes are feeling the side effects; indeed, as the churches and government are no longer able to tithe, many Shadowhunters have packed up and left for more lucrative cities, or returned home to Idris. Owen desperately wants Lydia to come to London with him, but Lydia doesn’t want to leave her family - and the institute she grew up in - behind.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands: Vienna Fairchild was determined to embark on a grand voyage like her father, and she wasn’t going to let the fact that she was a woman stop her. At the start of her travel year, Vienna ran to the last city full of glittering nightlife and wild parties in Europe - and indeed, Amsterdam is the last European stand of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ as recession grows over the continent like a shadow. Planning to pack her trunks and flee for the Americas with her best friends Lizzie and Margie, Vienna is stopped when the local institute desperately needs help. Their issue, however, is much larger than Amsterdam itself…
Alicante, Idris: The youngest of her siblings and cousins and friends, Alaina Blackthorn is thrilled to finally have her turn at Shadowhunter Academy. The Academy is, after all, a legendary place for life-changing bonds… it’s where her Uncle James and Uncle Matthew decided to become parabatai, and where her brother Theodore and Graham Fairchild first became friends - and now they, too, were parabatai. Flanked by her friends Raya Fairchild and Taron Carstairs-Lightwood, Alaina cannot wait to finally experience freedom - until the world starts to fall apart, and all their parents summon them back to London.
London, England: The adults of the London Enclave are certain the worst is behind them - they defeated Belial when they were teenagers, and the mundane world has finally calmed down after over a decade of war and pestilence. But the wicked never rest, and dark forces are gathering - and their target is London, the city that started it all.
#would people want to read it 🥹 let me know!!#there are SO many characters not in the synopsis#this is just a sneak peak hehe#but don’t worry all of our tlh faves have kids in this story!!#the last hours#tlh#the malevolent tides#james herondale#matthew fairchild#lucie herondale#cordelia carstairs#thomas lightwood#alastair carstairs#jesse blackthorn

Mario Kart Tour: Oxford Foray
Told you this page would be random.
I think an underappreciated aspect of Tour's city track design is their atmosphere. They don't just tour recognisable landmarks in a believable layout, they really capture the city's character! From New York's dazzling nightlife to LA's casual appeal, Singapore's extreme extravagance to Sydney's energetic simplicity, Vancouver's splashes of colour and natural beauty, Amsterdam's effortless harmony with canals and nature alike, Rome's ancient architecture with comfortable life on top, Madrid's modern bustle with impressive history underneath, Athens' proud (and hilly) past and Bangkok's humble yet hopeful future, and Berlin's seamless integration of all eras: they're all accurate as far as I can surmise. There's only a few that I think don't quite hit the mark. Paris’ modernity is smothered in quaint romanticism, though what else could one expect, Tokyo has little of its maximalist flair, but perhaps the graphics limited that, and then… London.
I'm certainly biased, it being my home country and the only city on the list I've seen for more than a day, but it seems to only hit the beats of its most recognisable icons: laudably no doubt, but the city isn't just its imposing imperial riches! What strikes me about London is its fast-paced mishmash of cultures that fill in all the gaps between the great British statements like water running over cobbled streets: history and novelty around every corner! The course gives me the impression of the former but not the latter.
I'm not sure I'm qualified to rectify this, but I can make up for it with another English icon! My hometown has its history, but not enough to base a tour around. My current homestead, however, is undeniably culturally significant, and it's not just that. I hope I did well to convey the place as storied and not just interesting, but inviting, a genuinely fun place to stay for a day or a year. That's how I feel about it at least.
HERE WE GO
1: Our foray begins on the left side of the picturesque High Street, between Queen’s College and the Examination Schools. It’s a noticeably wide street (and a noticeably wide gothic limestone starting gate with a waving chequered flag to boot), with a cobbled dividing strip, and plenty of buses to crowd the way! As the road narrows and items are collected, there’s a right turn into the Covered Market, which has three narrow lanes to choose from, and a few opportunities to weave between.
Out of the market is a sharp right turn down a walled alley, with the lovely Exeter and Lincoln colleges adjoining. This is before a huge 180 turn with another item set around the Radcliffe Camera, an impressive dome in the middle of a big communal square. Having lost its fence, at that, so if you’ve got a mushroom and are prepared to miss out on items, the shortcut is worth it! Racers continue north past All Souls College and the Bodleian Library to reach the roundabout connecting Broad Street and Holywell Street. Remember the Bridge of Sighs to your right.
The route continues up Parks Road, a leafy avenue with plenty of boost panels, before splitting around Keble College! If you continue straight forwards, you get an easy wide road, and a view of both the Natural History Museum and University Parks. However, if you take that subtle sharp left, you can find a potentially faster cut-through that’s a bit tougher to navigate. I didn’t even have to design this one!
Both options reconvene at the apex of St Giles, where a patch of off-road leads to an optional ramp, and the road broadens to quite a degree, leaving room for a ridiculous row of coins. The abbreviated straight ends at the Martyr’s Memorial, which now has just a humble patch of grass behind it instead of an entire church, just to improve the flow.
A quick left turn introduces Broad Street, which, you guessed it, also widens out, somewhat narrowed by some of the city’s numerous bike racks. However, this one has its right half covered in short wooden ramps, for the first half! These can be useful for some trick boosts, but more coins lay the other way. Items are given at the halfway point. Before reaching the roundabout at the end, there is a conspicuous diversion past the Sheldonian Theatre (which has no fence, to make way for the race) and through the library complex towards the Bridge of Sighs. Racers may either run straight through the gate (tricking as they go) or take the grated glider ramps to make it over the bridge!
The return to the start line via New College Lane and Queen’s Lane is a winding, narrow path, walled in by the historic namesake colleges. You’ll have to forgive them for not having karts running through their grounds. Nonetheless, navigate those chicanes and a final left turn (with a sneaky cut over the pavement) brings you back to the line. It’s a long one alright!
2: As in track 1, we begin on the High Street, though this time we forge ahead past the Covered Market, the traffic turning off before the Carfax Tower, until the course swerves into the Westgate Centre. In a strikingly similar manner to Coconut Mall, the route has two walkways either side of an optional drop with escalators, before a right turn into a more open area where the drop and escalators are forced. I swear it’s coincidental! The decor is distinct at least.
After grabbing items wherever you may encounter them, exit the mall via another sharp right turn onto open road. Make use of its breadth before you have to navigate the Castle & Prison, which is exactly what it sounds like! A couple of narrow turns later, there is a brief anti-grav uphill to wind up the Castle Mound to a big glider ramp, from which one must avoid the dreaming spires of Nuffield College and St Peter’s College some random church, or grab some of the revolving coins if you’re daring…
Though you could just drop onto the street, the Ashmolean’s grand ionic forum is a perfect landing place, where one can drift around to jump down the stairs and find themselves heading onto Broad Street once again! This time, the route heads past the theatre and turns at the roundabout, so the other lot of ramps, this time occupying the left half, can be made useful. The lap ends the way you’d expect after turning at the roundabout.
3: Unlike both 2 and 1, we start our race on Cornmarket Street (under a long hanging sign of oil paints on wood, the closest I can get to putting a pub in a kids’ game), a place I would be remiss not to include, along with its clutter of bicycle parking. If there’s one thing you notice about transit in Oxford, it’s how many bicycles are in the way. However, if you can dodge around the racks, you may find some coins or even dash panels…
Anyway, Cornmarket is a simple, if not uninterrupted, straight, which racers take south, spying once again the Carfax Tower and then the Town Hall and impressive Christ Church. You know, the big one. The road continues down St Aldates with all its traffic, but soon turns left through the open gates of Christ Church Meadow! The next half of the lap takes place in greener pastures, first down a puddle-ridden southward straightaway with sparse items and Moo Moos spectating, then when the course meets the Thames and Folly Bridge, a more wide open snaking route with grass shortcuts abound! The riverside path remains intact, but still off-road.
After doing this eastward a while, the course drastically narrows as it winds its way northward strictly following the meanders of the Cherwell. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from driving through the river itself, but the bumpy terrain and drag force balances any advantage of breadth. A wiser path is found by jumping onto a series of punts, which can be quite hard to aim for, but offer a trick each time. They’re not hard to come by in Oxford. This continues all the way to the Botanic Gardens, which can themselves be snuck through via a gap in the fence. Those wishing for a complete row of item boxes and, of course, the exquisite surroundings, can find themselves jumping over the pond in the south section before reaching the north, where a quick right around the fountain directs you between the greenhouses to reenter the river. The river, of course, does continue past the gardens, but who would want to miss out? Especially when that part of the bed gets so muddy…
When you’ve finally made it to Magdalen Bridge, you need only drive under it to find a wide slope up to the roundabout, which is drifted around before crossing the bridge to witness the lovely Magdalen Tower! We then cross the line - the line from the other versions, that is - before sneaking past the University Church to reach the road past the Radcliffe Camera. The Bodleian Library can now be dashed through for a guaranteed double box, if you can find the narrow entry! The rest is obvious: take Broad Street one last time, westward now, to reach the top of Cornmarket Street.
So how might these all fit together if they were given the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe treatment? Honestly, probably better than the individual courses! Lap 1 takes version 1, of course, but stops short of Broad Street, instead cutting through via Cornmarket to start lap 2, with version 2 taking over by way of a right turn at Carfax Tower. Lap 3 simply commences from the High Street and doesn’t bother with the whole Broad Street diversion: we’ve already seen it!
Oh right, I also made the music for it! You'll have to forgive Musescore's playback engine, they try, bless 'em.
It too had to be truly emblematic of Oxford, and besides the obvious historical, academic, fancy vibes, no sound reminds me more of this place than the echoing of church bells! And there are choirs in every college. So I ended up with a rather baroque piece, arpeggiated bass, change ringing, suspensions and all, which certainly suits the locale, but does NOT typically suit Mario Kart's encouraging energy. Heck, they almost always rely on synths, too, let alone their melody-first composition style that is entirely unfamiliar. How did I fit the mould? By focusing on intensity of Biblical proportions! If there's one thing choirs and organs can do, it's a ramp-up of DRAMA. With enough build and release, it's got the natural energy. Slap on a drum-beat and it ends up shockingly fitting. With all the zero inspiration I had to go on, I seriously surprised myself with this one. Judge for yourself!
Oxford is quite a convenient place to work with: most cities are so massive that you have to smush all the landmarks together and the layout doesn’t quite come naturally. But this place is already so compact, and packed with unmistakable buildings! Also, I know they’re trying to be flattering, but can you believe London saw not a drop of rain?! I think Oxford should be partially cloudy by contrast, providing a gentle rainfall, but with enough streams of sunlight to pierce the depressing grey… it could make the meadow look positively angelic!
Perhaps one day I’ll try my hand at Hong Kong Hustle to address Tokyo’s plight… or Shanghai Streets, I can’t decide! And then there’s one that is so easy to make that it’d be kind of funny just to do for the sake of it. We’ll see.
If anyone wants to take the names Rio de Janeiro Jaunt, New Delhi Journey, Moscow Scoot, Stockholm Swing, Cairo Cruise, Geneva Chase, or best of all, Brussels Bout, be my guest. And if any modders feel like 3d-modelling most of Oxford for me, I would love to give it a look :D

Another random and short thingy that came to my mind the other day. The morning after the night out in Amsterdam:
Despite he hadn't slept much, Trent Crimm was smiling while he was sitting in the hotel's lobby stirring his tea when he spotted Ted Lasso walking in with a cup of coffee in his hand. The coach's lips curled up as he saw the former reporter and walked to him.
"Good morning, Trent," he said.
"Hello, Ted," the ex-journalist nodded his head. "How was last night?"
"Inspiring," he replied. "What about yours?"
"Good," Trent answered with schrunching his nose a little. He felt an urge to tell Ted what had happened but he knew it wouldn't be right. Not because of himself, but he definitely didn't want to out Colin, especially not to his manager. Even though Ted probably would handle this situation with kindness, it still wasn't safe. Plus, he didn't want to talk about it without Colin's consent.
"Where have you been?" Ted wondered.
"Just dipped my toes into the local nightlife," Trent told him, and that way he didn't have to lie to him. "How about you?"
"Well, paid a visit to the good old Vincent and his Sunflowers and then got a taste of home," the moustached man told him.
"Oh, you went to the museum night?"
"Yeah, thanks for the tip on that," Ted said with a nod.
"Anytime," the former reporter smiled at him. They talked about it on the bus the day before, and originally, Trent was also planning to visit some museums, but that was before he witnessed Colin opting out of going to the live sex show. Or was it that party in Groningen? Never mind.
"Also," Ted continued, snapping the other man out of his thoughts, "I got high and I'm not hungover at all."
Now Trent raised a brow - of all the people in the club, he wasn't expecting Ted to try one of Amsterdam's treats. Perhaps he wanted to do something he had never done before. It still worried the ex-journalist a little bit.
"What did you take? Space cake?"
"No, tea with something in it," the coach told him. "Really, shouldn't I be wondering what the hell happened last night without remembering anything?"
"Honestly? I have no idea," Trent shook his head. "I've never had a special tea before."
"Me neither," Ted let out a small sigh.
And before Trent could have said anything, Dani Rojas stepped to them, with a wide grin on his face and a tulip in his hand.
"Coach! Look at this! I've got a tulip!" he chirped, beaming at Ted who checked the flower out then nodded in appreciation. "The florist was giving me weird looks for buying only one of these, but it is so beautiful!" - he told them, then noticed that Trent was there as well, so after saying a quick good morning to him, Dani walked away.
Trent's gaze shifted to the bouquet of tulips placed in the hall and he let out a small laugh.

One of the things I thought about a little, while in Amsterdam, was one of the short stories I'm working on to go with the Shivadh novels -- it's a flashback to 2012, where Gregory is at the London School of Economics and not doing well mentally. He calls up Jerry, currently living in Amsterdam, to see if he can come over and hang out for the weekend.
What I was thinking about was that Amsterdam is visually dense in a way I'm not sure I can vocalize properly, and after the Rijksmuseum and then wandering a while, I asked myself, could Jerry handle LIVING here with rampant undiagnosed ADHD? I'm medicated and my diagnosis is milder than his and I'm not doing super well with it. I thought perhaps I should move him to some other city with good drugs and nightlife, which is his whole reason for being there.
But then I turned off the main road near the market because I was a block from Sarphatipark, where I had placed Jerry's flat overlooking it, and wanted to see it. The second I got off the main roads it felt like someone just muffled all the noise and chaos (most of which was likely in my very tired mind in any case). The streets around the park are lovely and quiet and I had three or four people make friendly conversation with me -- one clocked my Roma jacket and wanted to talk football and his buddy joined in -- and then I spent a few minutes in the park and it's absolutely delightful.
So Jerry gets to stay in Amsterdam and oscillate between loud nightclubs and afternoons on pretty tree-lined streets bullshitting with strangers.

Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a beautiful city that is rich in culture and history. It is one of the most visited cities in Europe and for good reason. Amsterdam has a lot to offer visitors, whether it's the architecture, museums, parks, nightlife, or food. In this article, we will take a look at why you should travel to Amsterdam, what you can expect to find there, and provide some tips to make your trip more enjoyable.
Why Travel to Amsterdam
Amsterdam has a long and fascinating history that dates back to the 12th century. It was initially founded as a fishing village and has since grown into a bustling city with a population of over 800,000 people. The city is known for its picturesque canals, cobblestone streets, and beautiful architecture. Amsterdam is also known for being a progressive city, with a liberal attitude towards things like cannabis and LGBTQ rights.
One of the most significant reasons people travel to Amsterdam is to see the city's museums. Amsterdam has many world-renowned museums that are home to some of the most significant art collections in the world. The Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Anne Frank House are just a few examples of the museums you can visit in Amsterdam.
Besides museums, Amsterdam is also known for its vibrant nightlife. The city has a diverse range of bars, clubs, and live music venues that cater to all tastes. Whether you want to party until the early hours of the morning or enjoy a quiet drink by the canal, Amsterdam has something for everyone.
What to Expect in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a city of contrasts. It has a rich history, but at the same time, it's a very modern and progressive city. The architecture of the city reflects its history, with buildings that date back centuries mixed in with modern skyscrapers.
The city is also famous for its canals. There are more than 100km of canals that run through Amsterdam, and they are a major attraction for tourists. You can take a boat tour of the canals to get a unique perspective of the city or explore them on foot.
Amsterdam also has a reputation for being a hub of creativity and innovation. This is evident in the city's thriving art and fashion scenes. There are many galleries and boutiques where you can find unique items and support local artists.
One thing that might surprise visitors to Amsterdam is the number of bicycles on the city's streets. Bicycles are a common mode of transportation in Amsterdam, and it's essential to be aware of them when walking around the city. You can even rent a bike to explore the city yourself.
Tips for Traveling to Amsterdam
If you're planning a trip to Amsterdam, there are a few things you should know beforehand to make your trip more enjoyable.
Firstly, the best time to visit Amsterdam is between April and September. During these months, the weather is mild and pleasant, and the city comes alive with events and festivals. However, this is also the most popular time to visit, so expect larger crowds and higher prices.
If you're on a budget, consider visiting Amsterdam between October and March. Although the weather is colder, this is the best time to find cheap flights and accommodations.
When it comes to getting around Amsterdam, the best way is by public transport. The city has an excellent tram and metro system that can take you anywhere you need to go. You can also use Uber or taxi services, but they are much more expensive.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Amsterdam has strict laws and regulations when it comes to drugs and alcohol. While it's legal to purchase cannabis from licensed coffee shops, it's illegal to smoke it in public places. The same goes for alcohol, which is not allowed in some public areas. Always be aware of the laws and regulations and respect them.

Top Places to Visit in the Netherlands: A Must-See Travel Guide
A country with so much history, culture and nature, the Netherlands has more to offer than just tulips and windmills. Whether you walk through the charming streets of Amsterdam, cycle along the canals or explore the modern architecture of Rotterdam, the Netherlands has something for everyone. If you’re going, apply for a Netherlands Tourist Visa first and the process is made easier with the online Netherlands Visa application.
Here’s a list of top places to visit in the Netherlands along with some tips on how to get your visa for a trouble free trip.
List of top places to visit in the Netherlands
1. Amsterdam: The Netherlands
Amsterdam is the most famous city in the Netherlands, known for its canals, world class museums and nightlife. Whether you’re a history buff, art lover or just looking to soak in the local culture, Amsterdam has something for everyone.
Rijksmuseum: This iconic museum has an extensive collection of Dutch art and history including works by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh.
Anne Frank House: A historical site where Anne Frank and her family hid during World War II, the Anne Frank House is a moving tribute to courage and hope.
Canal Cruise: No trip to Amsterdam is complete without a boat ride along the canals. It’s a relaxing way to see the city’s beauty from a different perspective.
Vondelpark: If you want to escape the busy streets, Vondelpark is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Amsterdam where you can take a stroll or have a picnic.
Amsterdam is a good starting point for any trip to the Netherlands. But before you go, get your Netherlands Tourist Visa through the Online Netherlands Visa application to make your entry hassle free.
2. Keukenhof Gardens: The Biggest Flower Garden in the World
If you’re visiting the Netherlands in the spring, Keukenhof Gardens is a must visit. Located in Lisse, this massive park has over 7 million flowers blooming including the famous Dutch tulips. The colors and flower arrangements are truly breathtaking.
Keukenhof is only open for a few weeks a year (usually mid-March to mid-May) so plan your trip accordingly. Check your visa requirements and get your Netherlands Tourist Visa in advance to avoid last minute troubles.
3. Rotterdam: A City of Modern Architecture
Rotterdam is different from other Dutch cities with its bold and innovative architecture. Most of the city was rebuilt after World War II so it’s a display of modern design, creativity and cultural life.
Erasmus Bridge: One of the city’s most iconic landmarks, this futuristic bridge connects the northern and southern part of Rotterdam.
Markthal: This indoor market is a foodie’s heaven and an architectural wonder with its giant horseshoe shape and colorful murals.
Cube Houses: These yellow cube shaped houses are a quirky piece of architecture and fun to visit.
Rotterdam’s arts and modernity makes it a great destination for travelers interested in culture and design. Apply for a Netherlands Tourist Visa early, especially if Rotterdam is part of your trip.
4. The Hague: Seat of Government and Culture
The Hague is not the capital but it’s the seat of the Dutch government and home to international institutions like the International Court of Justice. The city has an elegant and stately atmosphere but also has plenty of cultural experiences for visitors.
Mauritshuis Museum: This museum has a collection of Dutch Golden Age paintings including the famous “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Vermeer.
Binnenhof: A medieval complex of buildings, Binnenhof is the heart of Dutch politics. Take a guided tour to learn about the history of the Dutch government.
Scheveningen Beach: If you’re visiting in the summer, head to Scheveningen, a beautiful beach resort area just a few minutes from the city center. It’s perfect for relaxing by the North Sea.
The Hague’s mix of politics and culture makes it an interesting place to visit. As with all destinations in the Netherlands, get your Netherlands Tourist Visa sorted out before you go through the Online Netherlands Visa application.
5. Giethoorn: The Venice of the North
Giethoorn is a unique village where there are no roads, only canals and footpaths. Often called the “Venice of the North”, this peaceful village is perfect for a break from the city chaos. You can rent a small boat, called a “whisper boat” and drift through the quiet canals surrounded by thatched roof houses.
Giethoorn is a slow paced and peaceful experience compared to cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Whether you’re visiting for a day or longer, make sure to have your Netherlands Tourist Visa before your trip.
6. Utrecht: A Historic and Beautiful City
Utrecht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands with a history dating back to Roman times. It’s known for its medieval architecture, charming streets and vibrant student life.
Dom Tower: Climb the 465 steps to the top of the Dom Tower, the tallest church tower in the Netherlands for panoramic views of the city.
De Haar Castle: Located just outside Utrecht, this fairy-tale-like castle is one of the most beautiful and largest castle in the Netherlands.
Oude Gracht (Old Canal): Utrecht’s canals are unique because of the wharf system. Walk along the tree lined Oude Gracht where you’ll find cafes, shops and historic buildings.
Get your visa sorted before Utrecht. Online Netherlands Visa application is easy but apply in time.
Visa Tips for the Netherlands
If you’re from a country that requires a visa to visit the Netherlands (including the UK) you’ll need to get a Netherlands Tourist Visa before you go. You can do this through the Online Netherlands Visa Website which makes the process easier.
Documents needed: Valid passport, travel insurance, proof of accommodation, financial statement showing you have enough money for your stay.
Processing time: Apply at least here 3-4 weeks before you go. Processing can take up to 15 working days.
Appointment: Our Executives will assess your documents and after ensuring everything is correct, an appointment date at the Visa centre will be booked.
You will have to visit the Visa Centre at the appointment date with the documents. After that it should take 14 to 15 calendar days for your Visa to arrive via courier.
Summary
The Netherlands is a country of contrasts, from city to village. Whether you’re exploring Amsterdam’s cultural highlights, admiring Keukenhof Gardens or wandering Utrecht’s streets the Netherlands has something for every traveler.
To make your trip stress free apply for your Netherlands Tourist Visa in advance. The Online Netherlands Visa makes the paperwork easy so you can get on with enjoying the country.
