it's like this stuff runs on some mysterious, moon-based schedule.
At least my face doesn't feel like a warning light anymore. “I see it,” Dooku says. Sifo-Dyas tilts his head. Dooku draws circles in the air over his cheekbones. “Like that doll that old woman on Dekien wanted you to exorcise. She thought her … her mother-in-law was possessing it, or something like that.” “Great-grandmother-in-law, actually. The family made artisan dolls and one of them had gotten it in their head that he should make ones of his entire family. Because,” Sifo-Dyas looks at me, “making poppets of your nearest and dearest is always a good idea.” “Did you really exorcise a doll?” Sifo-Dyas scoffs. “Of course not. I recited the Jedi Code in Ryl while making mysterious hand gestures at it.” “Are you going to exorcise me?” “Are you possessed?” I shrug, uncomfortable with the notion that I may have shoved whoever the original inhabitants of this body was off to one side until they were crushed out of existence. I might be the possessor. I'm beginning to recognise the shift in the Force that happens when Dooku raises his eyebrows in mild alarm at Sifo-Dyas but doesn't actually say anything out loud. A brushing past sensation, a reaching out to pluck at Sifo-Dyas’s edges like a tug on his sleeve. “No one's been possessed for hundreds and hundreds of years,” Sifo-Dyas says earnestly. “I know you think that's reassuring but the Jedi Order can be securely dated back to being at least a myriad old, with archaeological evidence on Tython going back almost two and a half times that.”

Lunch in the Kenobi-Skywalker-Tano-and-secretly-also-Fett quarters
(not pictured: one knight Skywalker, a togruta padawan, and a good dozen clone troopers in a variety of jedi clothes playing space-mariokart at increasingly high volumes)
[image ID: a digital drawing centred on Jango Fett, a Maori man in his late thirties, in matching mauve sweatpants and cropped shirt adding chilly powder to a big pan filled with a mushy red rice dish. His hair is greying at the temples and he is smiling slightly. On the left behind him is Obi-wan Kenobi, a pale ginger in his late thirties, wearing a blue cropped shirt and beige wrapped pants, who is walking past Jango while smiling at him, a hand on his arm. At the bottom right of the frame there is Boba Fett, a child looking like Jango at about twelve years old, in a matching blue pullover to Obi-wan's, holding up a flashing datapad, taking a photo. He is scoffing softly at his father. In the background, which is slightly blurry, there is a glass teapot and cups, a hanging multi-tier fruit basket and cabinets. Sunlight is flooding the room. end ID]

Should I still be working on my NaNo project, yes. Have I sufficiently distracted myself that you all get this brain dump so I can go back on track?
Also yes.
~...~
"Boba, we're leaving."
"But I haven't finished eating!"
Jango stopped to glare at his son, who was glaring right back as he shoveled cold leftovers from last night's dinner into his mouth. Which were apparently good enough his son was refusing orders.
"We're out of time, we've gotta--"
There was a crash, and a shout from upstairs. Jango was sprinting before he'd realized he was going in the wrong direction. From the clatter behind him, Boba was following.
Which meant as soon as he threw open the door and found the correct target, Jango fired. Just in time for his son to thud into Jango's legs.
"You killed a man in my bedroom."
Shmi Skywalker was holding a long staff with a degree of proficiency that was frankly concerning give that when she walked, she showed no sign of ever having held a weapon. The fact that it was one of the oversized gungan style monstrosities didn't seem to phase her either.
"Bounty hunter," Jango said. "Not a lot of safe ways to deal with those."
Shmi looked at him. "Is it legal?"
"Pretty sure Naboo has standard self-defense laws."
He was also pretty sure that Shmi, who had connections to the damn palace, and the Republic Senate, would never see a hint of trouble over something as meaningless as a hunter corpse.
Her stance relaxed and she put the weapon aside. "You're leaving."
He was dressed in full armor, minus his helmet, and had a pack slung over his shoulder. "I did my job."
She'd paid him to stand in front of a legal body and sign his name to a few forms so that she could try and get custody of a whole damn army. It was stupid and it wasn't going to work. It was the easiest job Jango had ever been paid for.
He still didn't know why he'd done it.
"You did," she said, in a way that implied he had not, in fact, done any of his job at all.
But maybe that was why he'd agreed. Because she did that thing, where you looked into her eyes and something was looking back at you. Something more than just her. And she'd said just because he wasn't interested in being their father didn't matter because they were her sons. All one million of them. Even the ones she hadn't met.
Lady was crazy. The kind of crazy Jango had learned on Alderaan that you just didn't mess with, because that thing that was behind their eyes wasn't something you said no to.
At least Jedi pretended to be normal people. Most of the time.
"Have you had breakfast?" she asked, brushing her nightgown. "Do you need a lunch?"
"Yes please," Boba said, before Jango could refuse for them.
"Then I'll be down in a moment." Her stare said she was waiting for Jango to get the hell out of her room and close her door.
"Thanks Mom," Boba called as Jango did just that.
"She's not your mother," Jango growled as they marched down the stairs. He wanted to just march them right out the door, but Boba had been promised lunch and might not be packed. Too much effort.
"She's your wife," Boba said, like this was still the funniest thing he'd ever heard. Which, it might have been. "And she said I can call her Mom."
"It doesn't mean anything," Jango growled. "She didn't do it for yo--for me."
And he hadn't done it for her. He'd done it for the money. That he didn't need.
No, he'd done it for the crazy. So it wouldn't eat him or whatever it was those Skywalkers did.
It wasn't his problem. Not anymore.
~...~
Three days. He'd been in a cell for three days, and in all that time he hadn't seen Boba.
Which was the real problem. Jango could get out of the cell. It wasn't even hard. He could get out of this prison. He could get anywhere in the galaxy.
But some sort of social services had taken Boba, and Jango didn't have the first clue where they'd put him. If he was in juvenile detention. If he was in some home. He hadn't come for Jango, not yet, which meant he might not be able to. That was always the plan. Get to Jango, Jango gets them out.
This was the problem with having a child. This was why Jango hadn't wanted one. This was why he almost hadn't had one, even when he knew he needed one, needed a future. They were such a damn liability. They made you soft. Gave you a weakness.
"Dad!"
Boba's voice echoed in the narrow space outside of Jango's cell as he ran into view, making no effort to hide himself.
Which made horrible sense when Shmi fucking Skywalker walked in behind him, closely trailed by--oh fuck--Leia. Who looked even less happy to be here than Jango was.
Boba was sliding a hand along the field between them and Jango pressed his own palm against it, ignoring the faint sting.
"What's this?" he demanded.
"Well, you got arrested, so I called Mom. 'Cause they asked if I had any other legal adults to watch me, and I did. Dunno why she brought that though."
He'd used a few different languages to answer, but apparently Leia was fluent in all of them, and had caught the insult. She was looking at his son in disgust.
"We're here to see that you're correctly transferred," Shmi said calmly. Like being in front of a cell that held her sort of husband was just...not interesting to her. "We can't get the charges dropped, but you've been processed to be extradited to Naboo."
Which was the last place Jango wanted to be. Oh well, transport was as good a time as any to escape. "I'll bet Naboo is thrilled."
"They're arguing with the Republic over custody," Shmi said. "But your Naboo citizenship does give us priority."
"I'm not--"
But he was. Because he'd married Shmi Skywalker, who was a citizen of Naboo, and signed all that damn paperwork.
"You're coming with us," Shmi said firmly. "And you won't do anything to worry your son."
"You look just like your daughter," he grumbled as he watched their frowns.
"Leia calls me her grandmother," Shmi said, which was not the same as saying Leia wasn't her daughter. Jango wasn't stupid.
"Does that make me her uncle?" Boba asked, earning a horrified look from Leia.
"Legally, I suppose so," Shmi said. "More or less."
Leia groaned.
"How soon until they execute me? On Naboo?" Jango asked. Because it was all well and good to demand that he didn't worry his son, but Jango had made sure Boba knew what would happen if Jango were ever arrested. Senator Amidala wasn't the first political target he'd accepted.
"I've asked for leniency," Shmi said. "Queen Jamillia has approved, but they are still deciding on what the reduced sentence is. And arguing with the Senate."
He might owe her his life. She'd paid him a damn pittance, and now she was taking in his son and maybe saving Jango's life.
"Why?" he demanded.
"You are my husband," she said. "So I can. And it would distress Boba."
"How many men have you married so you can steal their child?" Leia asked, rolling her eyes.
"I steal nothing," Shmi answered, and her voice was actually angry. She looked between Jango and Leia. "I am their mother. They come to me." She stared hard at Jango, that thing moving behind her eyes again. "I will see them all free."
my dumb brain had a dont look back prompt of Obi going hey Leia fake marry me so I can adopt all the clones and get legal case on the citizenship, and hell throw in Anakin and Padme into it and now the crack thought wont leave me alone. Like I know that legally its too chancy a concept but various fake marriage for legal nonsense are in my brain. fake relationship turning real / legal shenanigans. also that Lando 36 marriages to mess with tax nonsense so everyone in a convoluted marriage chain.
Friend, if we're talking fake marriage/legal nonsense, you're sleeping on the best one.
Shmi Skywalker hunts down Jango Fett, drags him before the nearest legal authority, names him the father of her one million children, and gets them married so she can have custody of all of them, including Boba. The entire GAR are now citizens of Naboo. So is Jango. Palpatine is having daily fights with Queen Jamillia over the legality of it all and we must have our army back. Jango is fending off assassins that are coming after his new wife, not because he likes her or appreciates her interfering in his business, but because if he lets her die it's a professional smear he will never be able to live down.
Leia, Anakin, Padmé, and Obi-Wan are all enraged. Jango cannot be in the Skywalker clan. He has committed Offenses against them.
Shmi is undeterred. It is his penance. She is looking after her boys.
(She and Plo work out shared custody of the 104th. Eventually.)

Gather 'round, all ye fuckers. It's time for another AU, let's go.
Time-travel. Obi-Wan from post-RotS (could be early in the Empire, could be as late as ESB, doesn't quite matter) wakes up in the past, as a 12yo, on that fateful trip to join the Agricorp.
He has a few short minutes to think it over, and then scams his way out and towards nearby Mandalore to find Satine.
(Her ghost was hanging out with Qui-Gon's when he was sent back in time, tethered by the Darksaber, and so Obi-Wan is pretty sure she's also somehow in the past?)
(If Qui-Gon's interested in helping, he can track Obi-Wan down. No need to make things easy for him.)
tbf even if he goes back to the Jedi when Qui-Gon comes to fetch him, he needs to plot and scheme with Satine first. Because reasons.
@threebea: Qui-Gon: we were literally five minutes from meeting Obi-Wan: sounds like a you problem Qui-Gon is not having a good mental health day. Like yes he's older and wiser but still.
Tumblr media
Satine and Obi-Wan have been busy getting in the way of the Galidraan situation (the Duke is out of his mind with worry because his daughter and heir randomly disappeared in the night.) Obi-Wan figured Qui-Gon could handle Xanatos on his own for a bit
Qui-Gon, suspicious: Have you been kissing? You're twelve. Obi-Wan: On the cheek, sure. Satine: He looks a third of my actual age at death. I look a fifth of his. We are neither of us comfortable with more. Obi-Wan: Also I've been told I need to worry about cooties.
The three of them speed run Jedi apprentice problems since they can't just leave the problems they need to fix unsolved, but way easier when you know who and what the solution is. Like yes they could get someone at the temple to catch Xanatos, but a twelve year old smacking him in the face and getting him in a headlock, and then later saying Xanatos tripped on his cape and knocked himself out oh dear. Also Bruck lives and is weirded out with how Obi-Wan gives him old man advice later.
They're also eager to get to the Real Problems Of Deadly Sith. They can't just SKIP the problems, but man. They sure are hitting fast forward.
Bruck definitely tries to goad Obi-Wan about his "secret girlfriend" that is in no way a secret.
Everyone knows about Obi-Wan having a "pen pal" that he has stated on more than one occasion that he'd have gladly married if not for the tragedy of their stations.
"Padawan Kenobi, you are twelve." "And yet, I shall live my life yearning for the lady who owns my heart, star-crossed as we are."
There's at least one meeting in those early years where Jango is present at an interaction and is abruptly concerned that he's going to have to figure out how to prevent a teen pregnancy without making everything weird. Does he just throw condoms at them? He doesn't know what size they need. Maybe tell their parents? He should tell the parents. He is not qualified to cockblock the 14yos.

Refresher for the people still confused about this...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a galaxy far, far away, EVERYONE has midi-chlorians in their blood. The Force resides in all living things. It binds the whole galaxy together. Midi-chlorians are what allow beings to commune with the Force. The more midi-chlorians you have, the more potential you have to RESPOND TO and WIELD the Force. But notice that Asajj couches her statement with the line that those with a higher m-count were "believed" to be more capable of wielding the Force. There's a correlation, but it's not necessarily the only factor (see Sabine Wren).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the moment where the clones literally become stand-ins for the fans.
"What? If you can use the Force, you're a Jedi!"
No. If you can use the Force, you can use the Force. To use it as a Jedi uses it, you have to train as a Jedi. To use it as a Sith uses it, you have to train as a Sith. To use it like a Nightsister, you have to train as a Nightsister. Or you can get some rudimentary instruction and decide how you want to use it.
Tumblr media
Jango Fett didn't have a high m-count, so his clones didn't either. But Omega and the rest of the Batch were special cases. As Cut said, the Kaminoans create with a purpose. Their deviations were intentional. Hunters abilities have always suggested he had a higher m-count than the others. But Omega's ability to perceive things before they happen (her bad feelings are nearly always spot on) and her affinity with animals have always been hints that her m-count is a little higher.
(Will update with screen grabs when I get them)
At the end of the episode, Omega asks Ventress if she has a high m-count.
Ventress: *looking at her nails* From what I've seen...no.
Omega: Then why is the Empire after me?
Ventress: Believe it or not, I don't know everything. But seeing as how a high m-count would make you a target, consider yourself lucky.
Omega: But I'm already a target.
Wrecker: Don't worry about it, kid. We'll figure it out. C'mon, let's get some chow.
Omega: *sigh* Thanks for trying.
Once they're out of earshot...
Crosshair: You're lying.
Ventress: About which part?
Hunter: You tell us.
Ventress: If Omega did have that potential, she'd have to be trained. Which would mean leaving you behind.
Hunter: That's not happening.
Ventress: What you want is irrelevant. The fact is, the Empire is after her, and they won't stop. If I were you, I'd leave this place. You're not as safe as you think you are. Our business is done.
Crosshair: I still can't figure out which side you're on.
Ventress: My own.
Okay, so Ventress is clearly not telling the truth about the m-count, which we know, because we've already seen Omega's charts. I really don't understand why people keep taking Ventress at her word here. We know better, and so do Crosshair and Hunter. My guess is that she's trying to protect Omega because she knows firsthand what it's like to be taken from your family and trained as a young girl.
We know that when Omega was at Tantiss, she was receiving transfusions of blood with midi-chlorians the same as all the other clones (harvested from the dead Jedi they're undoubtedly holding in the vault). They were taking her blood samples, but Nala Se kept throwing them away because she knew Omega would retain the higher midi-chlorian levels and she didn't want Hemlock to know that. The Emperor needs a clone that will maintain a high m-count so he can eventually get himself a new body. We know he does get that body, but not for decades - presumably because a) he never gets Omega, and b) the Batch is gonna take the fight to them at Tantiss and blow up their entire supply of midi-chlorian donors. Think about it - they're still working on Project Necromancer in The Mandalorian (24 years after The Bad Batch), but their resources are severely limited. The Empire has been all but wiped out, the Emperor is hiding out on Exegol, Dr. Pershing is clearly no Hemlock since he keeps killing his test subjects, and Grogu seems to be the only m-count donor they can get their hands on. The Emperor's cloned body is also deteriorating rapidly in TRoS, which suggests that even 25 years after The Mandalorian, he STILL hasn't figured out the right formula for cloning himself (which is good news for Grogu and Omega).
Which brings us back to the question, "Is Omega Force sensitive?"
The answer is, "yes", she is sensitive to the Force due to her elevated m-count. We've seen this all along. Hunter most likely is, too, and maybe some of the other Bad Batchers, to varying degrees. Tech could riot race, which takes incredible reflexes. Hemlock said that Crosshair didn't have a high m-count, and we don't know where Wrecker's abilities stem from. Omega can't wield the Force because she is untrained, but the potential is there. A person's aptitude to wield the Force seems to be strongly correlated to their m-count, but we've seen others with low aptitude eventually open the door to the Force with years of training and a decent dose of impending doom (we see this clearly with Sabine in Ahsoka, but it was also a topic in Legends).
Omega being Force sensitive doesn't mean that she has to leave her brothers. She can choose to pursue her training or not. She'd also have to find someone willing to train her. I'm not convinced Ventress is looking to take on any apprentices at the moment, but she could possibly connect Omega to Quinlan Voss (imagine the trouble those two would get up to).
But I don't think Omega will choose that path. One, it would just make her a bigger target. Two, I don't see her prioritizing power over family. She's a clone, and clones are ALL about family. They're Mando coded, not Jedi coded. Screw the space Buddhist lifestyle - clones parade their attachments around like trophies. Omega goes around collecting attachments like most kids collect rocks..."Hello, stranger trying to kill me, let's be besties."

I think I have read many fics where, to bridge some gaps, the clones exist but the DNA was stolen from Jango, or his body was stolen, and this is a terribly offensive thing to do. I propose we let Jaster go a little nuts for once. Let him clone his dead son and have five Jango clones living in his house. Let him get carried away and make way too many of them. Let him just run right off the rails and make an army for mandalore. Let him get caught in a loop of exceptionalism and buy into his own hype, and become a problem for everyone (including his dead son's clones) . Jaster villain arc 2k24

In honor of me not having any more bangs on the schedule for the year, here's part 1/2 of my 2023 cover collection! This portion 100% star wars. The next bit will be up tomorrow. I've started a cover collection tag for the compilations like this, but you can always look through all my bang art in my big bang tag. Though, not all of these were for big bangs. Eh, whatever.
Links and summaries below the cut!
Cover collection 2023
So There's this Guy by @catbuirs-alt & @elsaanna007 (art) (with more art by @anstarwar)
The war is over!
Jesse, Kix, Echo and Fives live together in an apartment on Coruscant.
Echo finds himself in a new romance with a beautiful woman named Hehna. After finding himself lacking in experience, Fives offers to help him out with advice and practice.
Unfortunately for Fives, this awakens some feelings he thought were buried deep and he doesn’t know what to do about them. He decides to put them aside and be happy that Echo has found someone.
Fives’ advice does help Echo become more confident with his new girlfriend, but something is holding him back. His thoughts keep returning to his best friend and he’s not the only one who notices. Will Fives keep his role as the best friend, or will Echo realize that his attraction to Hehna pales in comparison to his feelings for Fives?
Keep by @tallnegotiations (art)
Vader is a technical genius, it is a well-known fact. So, following his defeat at the hands of his old Master on Mustafar and the rise of the Empire, Vader executes his greatest act of genius to prove his dominance: he creates an artificial intelligence modeled after Obi-Wan Kenobi.
After the rise of the Empire, nothing remains of Commander Cody except for CC-2224, just another rank-and-file stormtrooper among many. He goes where he is told to go, shoots where he is told to shoot, and doesn't question it because good soldiers follow orders.
A droid told to be human meets a human told to be a droid. They meet somewhere in the middle.
(Tooka) Cat-Scratch Fever by @pebblish (art)
Luke is lonely, and instead of joining space bumble decides to cure the problem with a tooka cat. When he visits a shelter, he stumbles upon the most unadoptable feline there- a scarred, jet black, mangy creature that tears apart the homes of any who dare to adopt him.
Darth Vader has been turned into a tooka cat by his former Master, Darth Sidious. And now, he's been adopted by some blonde brat who has no idea who he's dealing with.
The pair of them are in for some startling revelations, and each will have to learn that what you want isn't always what you need.
I Wear My Sunglasses at Night by Trillium Orchid (art)
Force Osik can make things difficult and decidedly strange. Sith versions of Cody, Fox, Thorn, Thire, and Stone get switched with the bodies of their alternate selves that are from a near-cannon timeline…
They decide to Help Things- and manage to kill the Chancellor. Meanwhile, the vod’e that they switch with is trying to get back home and hop a few universes before getting switched back… after the Sith versions kill the Chancellor.
Ripple in the Universe by @darthtarvera (art)
Jango Fett has done many things in service to Mandalore. Tricking a couple of Jedi so he can use them to get to the heart of a conspiracy seems simple enough to add to the list. Get the Jedi, get to Mandalore, and find the traitors. One more step to take on his path to fix the mistakes from the last time he did this.
Ripples on the water can have longer-lasting effects than you might think. Jango Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi meet years before they were supposed to.
This changes things.
An Hourglass in Hand by @ecarian (art) (with more art by @blog-o-randomness)
“I thought daemons didn’t eat,” Rex noted once, during a celebration feast, as he and Cody watched Boga devour her meal with some fascination. Varactyl she may be, but she was a tiny one. There wasn't much interior space for the truly momentous amount of meat she was ripping into. Boga daintily rubbed her beak against a folded serviette that looked kind of like a bird, and said, prim, “I can do anything a human can do.”
“Oh?” Obi-Wan said mildly, from where he’d been tapping at a datapad. “Shall I save you a portion of these reports then?”
No Trophies, Only Prisoners by @diviluscorner (art)
Jango’s life took a wrong turn somewhere around Geonosis and spat him out years later to haunt one of his clones.
Or perhaps Jango doesn't realize the Force has other plans for him.
Every Shadow by @kenobster (art)
The days on Kadavo were long, but the nights moved quickly. Hundreds of pairs of wide, sleepless eyes haunted the space of the holding cells. Droves of terror clogged the heavy, sweaty air, and every sound, however faint, was like a physical ripple across the crowd. Every sound. The jingling of keys, the clicking of locks, the thudding of boots, and that’s how the nights on Kadavo started—with a gradual increase in the degree of quiet.
OR—during the mass casualty event following Kadavo and Zygerria, Obi-Wan and Anakin seek ways to cope with trauma.

Clone File: Morbs (YukiPri OC)
Basic info:
Name: Morbs Number Designation: CC-4413 Generation: 1 (0.9) Rank/Title: Chief Mortician of the GAR, Kamino Chief Mortuary Trainer (former) GAR Affiliation: Entire GAR, primarily stationed with the 212th Attack Battalion Character status: YukiPri Original Character
Disclaimer: Morbs' story will likely make more sense if you've read The Prime Override, as he's introduced with context in this fic. He will also make more sense if you've read about the other 2 clone medics mentioned in this file, Ashe and Stabber.
Backstory beneath cut!
Overview:
Clone morticians are specialists even among medics. Every clone medic knows the basics of how to care for the deceased, but in war, priority must always go to the living. As such, it is common to find only one clone mortician per star destroyer or permanent GAR base, with greater numbers stationed in Tipoca City or various Republic medical centers.
Morbs, or CC-4413, is considered the Chief of this group of medical specialists. He is the originator of the division, and was assigned to develop both the position and the training curriculum of clone morticians in tandem with Ashe’s primary medical training.
Prior to the start of the Clone Wars and through the early war period, Morbs oversaw the Tipoca City Primary Clone Morgue, which processed all clone bodies. There, he managed biopsies, distribution of cadavers, and the care and processing of all of the bodies of his deceased brothers. He also trained other clone morticians who had completed general medical training prerequisites and were approved by Ashe, as well as future Chief Medical Officers who were required to have completed hands-on training time in the morgue to earn their certifications.
Morbs would have been content to remain in this morgue for life, but as the main body of the GAR prepared for deployment, it became clear that the number of bodies being processed on Kamino would plummet. Morbs was reassigned to the front lines, where his expertise would see more active use, leaving his morgue behind in the hands of his assistants. He primarily travels with the 212th Attack Battalion, but frequently visits medical centers and goes where he is needed.
Background:
Morbs was one of five Generation 0.9 CCs selected by Nala Se to begin the development of the clone medical track. While all subsequent medics are CTs, the Generation 0.9 CCs underwent manual age acceleration, putting them physically ahead of their Generation 1 peers in chronological age. Morbs and his fellow CCs were test subjects used to establish the start of the medical specialization path before their younger brothers were of age to begin that training.
As CCs, they are overqualified for the general medical training that Nala Se is building, and Nala Se quickly turns to using them for other experiments as well. Their unique position as the first experimental medical clones gives Nala Se more oversight over them than any other clones, with far less supervision as well. They are “her” clones to test as she pleases.
In the depths of her labs, Nala Se conducts experiments that she had been banned from conducting on standard troopers by the contract with the Prime Clone, Jango Fett. Morbs later learns that these tests would be considered “torture,” and are illegal in the Republic. He and his brothers are tested for the physical limits that clones can reach, including tolerance for exposure to various stimulants such as heat or chemicals, as well as sensory limits such as their maximum threshold for pain. She also experiments with the potential for building up tolerance and even immunity to various drugs and poisons. She takes all of the data she gains and incorporates them into the medical training for the clones—thus, ensuring that her tests still fall under the scope of “developing medical training.”
Two of the five CCs perish as a result of these experiments. Ashe is ordered to decommission the third when he fails to meet Nala Se’s standards. This leaves Morbs and Ashe as the only survivors of their initial group. They cannot speak of their experiences to anyone else, as Nala Se is the only other witness. Not even Kote knows what they experienced. Between the two of them though, they can never forget that their senior medical positions were earned with blood.
Morbs has always been a quiet but keen observer, and knew from early on that Ashe has reasons for wanting to be in the medical track, and that this is a path that he’s chosen and is motivated to push through. Morbs is brought into the Ghosts’ plans relatively early, and having had the most first-hand experience seeing just what Ashe’s position entails, he wishes he could do more to help his brother. However, Morbs is also realistic, and knows that he doesn’t have the same passion and dedication driving him. He does what he can, but he can’t see himself being the medics’ leader that Ashe is. He feels guilty for not being able to offer to take Ashe’s place, when he’s the only one in a position who could. He tries to make up for it by loyally following him, and doing what he can as a supporter.
In addition to not having the drive, Morbs also feels he is cursed with misfortune. While he excels as a medic and not even Nala Se can find anything lacking in his record, most of the patients that Morbs touches seem to end up dead for reasons unrelated to his skills as a medic.
He’s assigned to oversee a group of cadets, who end up having a fatal genetic mutation that gives them all heart attacks while he’s on observation. The wing with patients that he oversees collapses due to an architectural problem, and they all die. He’s conducting a surgery, when the power goes out, and he’s unable to save his patient with the tools he has available. He tends to some brothers, who leave his exam room fine, but are killed in a training accident a few hours later. He’s assigned to take over a simple check up, and finds his patient already dead before he enters the room.
Every additional incident makes him increasingly uncomfortable with working with living patients. He knows he has the skills, but it doesn’t seem to matter, because most of his patients end up dead anyway. Statistically, it’s not impossible, but after a certain point it’s certainly improbable, and yet it continues to happen. Clones are rarely superstitious, as they have no cultural basis for it, but Morbs feels that there’s something absurdly wrong with the amount of death that seems to follow him everywhere.
He only feels that he’s safe for his brothers when working with those already dead. He can’t kill them if they’re dead before they’re even assigned to him. When Nala Se announces that a new mortuary sub-track will be added to the primary medical track, Morbs dives for it because he can’t think of a better position for himself. If death follows him, he might as well embrace it.
As he and Ashe are given more access to resources including those from outside of Kamino to help them develop their respective training curriculums, Morbs finds himself increasingly interested in not just the practical aspects of death, but also the more cultural and spiritual elements as well. It’s sparked by his own unluckiness and wondering if others have experienced the same, but is fed by his curiosity when he realizes that most nat-born cultures have different ways of processing death and grief that are deeply engrained in how they handle their dead. Nat-born lives are for the most part extremely foreign and utterly irrelevant to anything clones will likely ever experience, but death is almost universal. Morbs finds this fascinating.
The clones are brusquely told that they “march on,” when they die, as Mandalorians do. But why? Where do they march to, with whom? What is waiting there? If that is the inevitable eventual fate of all of them, regardless of Ashe’s or Kote’s efforts, shouldn’t it perhaps be Morbs’ job as the Chief Mortician to at least consider what happens after?
While Morbs has no answers for the afterlife, he certainly has many thoughts, which he shares with the silent cadavers who he works with. It seems like they can hear him, he thinks, for all that none of his words are spoken out loud.
While sitting in on a Ghosts meeting as they develop code words for their growing underground organization, Morbs mentions off-hand that their brothers who are dead, but aren’t, are, “Marching on to join Kote.”
It’s not his fault that their overseers failed to really explain what “marching on” means, nor really instill any true understanding of “glory” either. So if they choose to define it for themselves, with “marching on” meaning to join their other brothers (who may or may not be dead), and “glory” as fighting for their brothers, something tangible that they actually understand and care for…well. They are, after all, supposed to die for the glory of the Republic anyway. No one will question the language.
While most of Morbs’ brothers are exceedingly practical, and must be, Morbs finds his niche in thinking about the not practical. If having ways of respecting and mourning the dead helps all other sentients, why shouldn’t it help them too? Morbs experiments with how he thinks their dead should be treated, and the bodies in his morgue are, as always, his silent audience.
He grows to consider the dead bodies in the morgue “his men” in “his army.” After all, those who are also marked dead, but are actually just with the Ghosts, are also allowed to “consider serving” despite being equally dead on record. And are not the bodies that he repurposes to hide the missing bodies, the dead whose organs and limbs save the lives of their living brothers, not also serving their brothers? Just because they were unlucky, like Morbs, doesn’t mean that they aren’t still being helpful, aren’t still actively saving their brothers. Because that’s all what any of them want to do: help each other.
Morbs assigns himself their Commander, as he is in charge of them, cares for them, and directs their “campaigns.” The rows of cold lockers that house their bodies are “barracks.” He talks to them, praises their missions, and grieves for them when they finally march on to their second deaths via cremation, only after which they are truly gone.
While none of Morbs’ students go to quite the same level as Morbs himself in humanizing their deceased brothers, he makes sure that all of them leave his morgue with a firm understanding that even when dead, their brothers are still their brothers. Pieces of his ideology and treatment of bodies linger in all of the medics who handle their dead.
Morbs treats the dead as his men because he wants them to be able to live on just a bit longer, but admittedly that’s not all. It’s something that also helps with his guilt over not being able to assist Ashe in his decommissionings. He can’t stop those deaths any more than Ashe can, and he can’t even share in the pain of murdering them. But he can promise them, and can promise Ashe, that once their bodies leave Ashe’s blood-stained hands, that Morbs will welcome them gently to his morgue. That they’ll be treated tenderly, with humanity, and that their existences won’t mean nothing. That if they’re capable of it, Morbs will do whatever he can to ensure that they too can serve Kote before their bodies are gone.
Morbs likes to think it offers Ashe some comfort.
General Info:
Most clones have only ever heard of Morbs, who is extremely elusive. Even after deployment, he rarely leaves the morgue wing attached to medical. Whereas Ashe feels a complicated mixture of self-loathing and knowing that he’s unwelcome in other spaces because all other clones loathe him too, Morbs is simple. He likes being with his men, they’re his favorite group of clones. The living get plenty of attention amongst each other. He just is happier with his own men, and prioritizes giving them his own attention.
He’s eccentric and more than a little creepy, but his reputation means that many of his brothers are very curious about him. He has a strict “no one alive past this line” rule at the entrance of the morgue, with very few exceptions, so not even those who try to catch a glimpse of him while visiting medical have much luck. Spotting him outside the morgue is both like an exciting cryptid sighting, but also potentially a bad luck omen. Morbs is oblivious to the excitement his presence causes, as he’s usually just in a rush to get back to the morgue.
Morbs is so mysterious that only a very limited handful of his brothers knows how truly odd his habits are. He has an assigned bunk, but ignores it and sleeps in a specially padded cold locker so that he can “sleep in the barracks with his men.” He calls it his favorite bunk, and tells the other medics he wants to rest there when he one day inevitably dies. He will sometimes forget to take care of himself, ignoring his own living needs to eat, drink, exercise, hygiene, etc. until a medic, usually Stabber, drags him out of the morgue to handle it. Stabber thinks Morbs is an example of how truly unfair their genetic enhancements are, because Morbs somehow maintains his solid CC-class physique with essentially zero effort on his part.
Unlike Ashe, who wants to be out in the field, Morbs never wants to leave his morgue for anything. Once he has been relocated into the morgue on the Negotiator, he only steps out when absolutely necessary. He doesn’t want to see the sights of the outside galaxy, doesn’t want to see the people or try the foods. He thinks all air outside of the morgue that is not optimized for the preservation of clone bodies is distasteful. He especially hates heat, sunlight, and humidity, insisting that it will “cause us to decay faster.”
The one exception to this is if there is a morgue, funeral, cemetery, or something else death-related going on. He learned about other cultures’ death practices, and he’s admittedly still curious about them too, mostly in the context of whether there’s anything else he can do to improve the experience for his men. If the ship is planetside and there’s supposed to be a famous cemetery, he might be seen quickly slinking outside, face completely veiled to avoid exposure to the elements.
Relationships:
Morbs maintains a close relationship with Ashe, though it’s one he’ll rarely show in front of others, always maintaining a professional distance if they have company. But Ashe is the only living person that Morbs will seek out for company, always while Ashe is alone. Morbs is the only one who knows the extent of what Ashe suffered during his early training, and had experienced much of it with him. He is concerned about Ashe, but doesn’t offer medical help, as he feels Stabber does that enough, and he doesn’t trust himself to think of Ashe as a patient; that never ends well. He will instead offer Ashe silent company.
Morbs claims to despise Stabber, especially since he’s the one responsible for taking him away from his morgue on Tipoca City and forcing him onto a star destroyer. Because Stabber is the CMO of the 212th, prior to Ashe joining them, Morbs is forced to interact with him the most. Morbs doesn’t like Stabber because he considers the other medic, “far too alive.” Stabber’s high energy, movement, and noise levels all grate on Morbs’ preference for stillness and darkness. Still, he reluctantly respects Ashe’s former assistant’s skills as a medic, and will follow his orders.
He also won’t admit it, but Stabber was the one who gave him his name. Stabber had a habit of announcing that Ashe’s work buddy “has the morbs,” a phrase he’d picked up from one of Ashe’s training resources that he claims means “has emo vibes.” Stabber liked the sound of the word so much that he began shouting it every time he encountered Morbs, and it ended up sticking. Morbs pretends he doesn’t care, but secretly thinks it’s fitting.
On the other hand, Morbs has a surprisingly amicable relationship with the Jedi he interacts with most frequently, Obi-Wan. He was very leery of letting Obi-Wan come anywhere near the morgue, not trusting an outsider with his delicate men who are unable to defend themselves. However, Obi-Wan found Morbs’ ruminations and philosophies fascinating, and was easily able to bait him into a conversation by expressing interest. Despite being surrounded by war, Morbs often seems strangely detached from it, preferring to speak less about the realities of war and the gears that move it, and more about why various cultures frame death and the afterlife in certain ways. While the conversations are often melancholy in nature, Obi-Wan appreciates the strange normalcy of it, knowing that Morbs would likely have these same questions regardless of whether there was a war. Morbs likewise is invested in hearing about death traditions from an outside perspective.
While the other clones aboard the Negotiator were at first both morbidly fascinated by Morbs, they were discouraged from actually interacting with him because he says things like, “You should not be in here, unless you are dead. Unless you would like to be dead, in which case I can help you,” or, “Oh, well you don’t look like you’re dying. How unfortunate.” However, they gradually realize that Morbs is not as aloof as he first appears.
He isn’t opposed to speaking, as long as it’s about his men. They realize that while Morbs refuses to let any curious bystanders or unqualified personel enter the morgue for no reason, he’s always eager to learn more about those in his care. Clones who have lost brothers can always count on him wanting to hear about the deceased, and if they’re present in his morgue, Morbs may even allow them to visit. When the first clone brings Morbs some flowers, because he saw that some nat-borns planet-side were laying flowers by the graves of their lost loved ones, Morbs is tickled by the action. Clones are not granted proper graves, and those in Morbs’ morgue are still “on duty.” But Morbs creates a little sterilized shrine in a corner of medical close to the morgue, where he collects these offerings and allows his brothers to visit. If the tablet Morbs laid there is turned a certain way, Morbs knows that one of his brothers wishes to speak to him about someone deceased, and he slinks out of the morgue to listen to them.
Because Morbs is the Chief Mortician, he not only processes the bodies that pass in front of his own hands, but he obsessively goes over the reports sent to him by all other clone morticians and standard clone medics, who are in charge of marking all final fatalities. As such, he has the most comprehensive knowledge of all deceased clones. On the rare occasions that they are able to conduct larger, collective remembrances, if Morbs is available, he will often be called to lead them.
Obi-Wan observes that Morbs is acting almost like a priest or other religious leader, but Morbs scoffs at the idea. He has no intention of leading a religion; he just cares about his men.
And all of the clones will join his army, one day.
Appearance:
Morbs wears a modified version of the clone mortician uniform, a black version of the standard softshell white medic uniform. As the Chief Mortician, Morbs wears a longer knee-length version of the uniform, along with a black kama over it to signify his CC status. He also has a rank bar, and red shoulder pieces to show his personal training from Nala Se, like Ashe and Omega. He technically has armor, but he’s never worn most of it since his fitting, and he doesn’t plan on wearing it either. His men serve without wearing armor, so why should he? If the ship is ever boarded, he intends on going down with his men in the morgue, a plan that no one will allow him to follow through on.
The one piece of armor he does occasionally wear is his helmet, which is a black version of Ashe’s. He must occasionally process bodies that have been exposed to hazardous conditions, and in these cases, he’ll don his helmet for its filtration and advanced sensors. He is so utterly uninterested in his own armor that it was left unpainted, and Ashe decided to paint it black for him, so it can match Morbs’ aesthetic preferences. While Morbs never acknowledged the gesture, he shows his appreciation by not protesting when he’s told to wear it.
After leaving Kamino, he grows his hair long and wears it loosely tied back, because as a non-combatant, he isn’t limited to practical hair styles. The exact length changes constantly as he uses his own hair to create wigs and patches for any of his men who may have had their own hair damaged. He refuses to share his hair with anyone who isn’t dead.
He also gets tattooed, two dark lines dripping down his cheeks from his eyes. He saw nat-borns with the look in some funerary documentaries he watched as a cadet. He doesn’t know that what he saw was nat-borns with running makeup, but he likes the look because it looks like a trail of permanent black tears on his face. He takes it to be a metaphor that he is always thinking of his men.
Morbs also has deep permanent bags under his eyes. This is due to a mix of him constantly forgetting that he needs sleep, along with him not wanting to sleep because he has so many thoughts to ponder.
While he usually just wears his uniform, he has a veil that he throws over his head whenever he has to step outside of the ship or Republic medical facility for any length of time. He also has an ornamental headdress he’s fashioned for special occasions, such as when he has to welcome an exceptionally large number of men to his army, is conducting a field cremation, or is leading a remembrance. The headdress is created from shards of plastoid armor he’s had to pull from his men.
Note:
Morbs’ designation, CC-4413, was chosen because the number 4 means “death” in many Asian cultures, due to how it sounds similar to “death” in many Asian languages, including but not limited to my own Japanese/Chinese cultures. Tetraphobia, or the fear of the number 4, is a thing! The number Thirteen is an unlucky number in other cultures. The number “4413” felt fitting for this character who is so immersed in death and bad luck!

Spoopy (... mostly Monsterfucker-y) Codywan Fic Recs 🌕🐺
This is not a conclusive compilation, just my round-up of faves! Happy Halloween, everyone!!!
[Rated E] Full Moon Blues and the Warmth of the Sun by @anaclastic-azurite
Lovely AU where Cody is a sun elf and Obi-Wan is his werewolf boyfriend who is going through a rut. There is also another work in the series that's rated M :3
[Rated E] Es gibt Wölfe im Wald by @brigittttoo
Super atmospheric magical two parter in which Cody lives in a cabin in the woods and Obi-Wan is a werewolf that lives there.
[Rated G] at the breakers' edge by @wrennette
Nice and atmospheric fic where Cody moves to a cottage by the sea and his neighbor is a wolfman/wulver. Forever lives rent free in my head.
[Rated E] Thicker than water by @galateagalvanized
Look. If you haven't read this already, you need to complete your life and read it ASAP. It's canonverse but Obi-Wan is a vampire. The push and pull between need, want, and denial is delicious. Also, it contains my favorite codywan art ever.
[Rated E] what dreams may come by @biscuityskies
Cody is ass over heels for his PhD advisor, Ben. A spicy encounter at a bar and they decide to hook up. Oh, and did I mention Ben is a vampire? 😏 This is one for my fellow sub Cody, bottom Cody AND monsterfucker Cody enthusiasts
[Rated T] make a choice by @inkformyblood
Cody wakes up a newly turned vampire. It's in the same 'vers as the next fic rec. Also, though this fic is rated teen... Obi-Wan and Cody definitely start fucking nasty as soon as it fades to black. It is so deeply homoerotic, as every vampire story inherently is.
[Rated E] drink you down by @cillyscribbles
They're vampires. They're grossly in love. They're fucking and sucking. Blood kink galore muwahahaha
[Rated E] Thirty-One Sons, Thirteen Moons by sual
Jango is cursed to keep having children delivered to his doorstep every year. Obi-Wan, a witch, believes he can solve his problem. It only includes um. Fornicating with one of his sons. Cody volunteers. So they move in together. They fall in love. Amazing vibes.
[Rated G] A Taste Of... by @skybreakprimeonao3
More fairytale than spoopy but Obi-Wan is a witch and Cody is a prince. There's a whole series but the first fic is my favorite.
[Rated E] A Hunter For Dinner by @snowywinterevenings
Obi-Wan is a sex demon, the Fetts are hunters. Obviously Obi-Wan and Cody hook up. Vaguely inspired by Supernatural.

The Happiest Ending
Summary: Of all of the possible outcomes of the war, Bacara never once considered that he might get a happy ending. He’s never been happier to be wrong in his life.
Pairing: Commander Bacara x F!Reader
Word Count: 694
Warnings: None
A.N: This story is brought to you by the fact that my 8th Anniversary was on the 16th and I couldn't celebrate it because I was so sick. I hope you all like it~

It’s late.
Bacara can see the full moon peeking at him through the windows, and the chrono next to the bed shows that it’s well past midnight.
It’s late enough that he should be asleep.
He has a long day coming up, and he needs to be rested for it.
But as he lays in the impossibly soft bed, covered in thick comforters that smell faintly of flowers, and the soft sound of rain filling his ears from the white noise machine on the other side of the room, Bacara finds himself unwilling to drift off to sleep.
It hadn’t been so long ago that this life was impossible for him to even imagine. Bacara had been convinced that he would die on some cold planet far away from the core, just like so many of his brothers.
But he didn’t.
In fact, the war ended just as suddenly as it began. The only people who know what really happened are the Jedi Council and some politicians. But one day all of the clones returned to Coruscant to learn that they were free men and that they had choices now.
Some of his brothers elected to remain with the Jedi. But a large number elected to go to school to learn a new trade, or just move away from Coruscant. Fox, Bacara knows, took the former Coruscant Guard and moved into Mandalorian Space to become Journeymen Protectors.
It had been a tempting offer, when Fox reached out to him and offered him a place on Concord Dawn with him, but, at the time, Bacara had been so tired that he turned his younger brother down.
Looking back now, Bacara is glad that he did.
He elected to move to Mandalore. He settled in the North, inheriting a small parcel of land that once belonged to Jango Fett.
Bacara had been unable to convince the people living here that he wasn’t Jango’s son. No matter how many times he explained that he was basically just canon fodder, the elders were adamant that Jango created him, which made him Jango’s son.
In the end, he couldn’t convince them, so he, somewhat gracelessly, took the Fett surname and allowed them to teach him how to tend to the land that he inherited.
Jango would be rolling in his grave.
It was a thought that made the whole situation more tolerable, at the time.
Bacara pulls himself from his thoughts when the warm body next to him stirs and presses against his side. His gaze drifts down to regard the sleeping woman, a small smile lifting his lips.
She’s managed to pull the blanket high enough that only her hair is visible. Carefully, he pulls the blanket down so it’s not over her face, and he brushes a strand of hair off her face.
Her pretty face scrunches up and slowly her eyes flutter open, “‘cara?” Her voice is rough with sleep.
“I’m here, riduur.”
She yawns, cutely, and slings her arm across his chest, “Dreamed you went away.”
“That’s silly, where would I go?”
She shifts slightly so she’s able to rub her nose against his neck, “Dunno. Just…away.”
Bacara rolls to face her, his arms wrapping tightly around her, “I’m not going anywhere. I’m afraid you’re stuck with me for life.”
A tired smile lifts her lips, “Mm…forever?”
“Forever,” Bacara confirms as he kisses her forehead, and then trails his lips down to kiss her properly. “Go back to sleep, riduur.”
She hums and presses closer to him, “Why’re you awake?”
“Was thinking about you.”
“Good things?”
“Only the best.” He kisses her one more time, “I love you.”
Her smile becomes almost bashful, but she reaches up and wraps her arms around his neck so she’s able to press her forehead against his, “I love you more.”
“I don’t think that’s possible.” His voice is light as he tangles his legs with hers, “Happy Anniversary, Riduur.”
“You remembered~”
“How could I forget the happiest day of my life?” His arms tighten around her and smiles as her eyes drift shut, and then a peaceful look slides across her face. “Good night, riduur.”
“Good night, ‘cara.”

four and a half hours later, i have finished 'republic commando: hard contact' for the first time.
inchresting tidbits. not my usual speed but overall enjoyable. definitely made me coil up sometimes with tension of 'oh god what's gonna happen next on this shitheel OP' lmfao. some thoughts and highlights below.
highlight (or. lowlight? kal what are you on about): kal apparently calling jango a sociopath as a weird way of telling his boys about fear.
Tumblr media
also a highlight:
Tumblr media
i am Thrilled by the framing of mandalore as a dead empire. 'museum-piece uniform' like they are already a dead people, that there are people like hokan seemingly grasping at a glory mandalorians haven't had in *four thousand years*. love the brief implication of long history.
also i am choosing to interpret this as a kotor reference so i'm Inhaling it of course.
Tumblr media
people talk about kal feeding his lads uj cake but i rarely see people talk about kal being like "read this childrens book about what it means to be mando". Also, despite never physically appearing in this book, Kal sure is mentioned fucking EVERYWHERE. KT we know who your favorite guy is. to be fair he is also my favorite guy. love how his spectre haunts this book. the three skirata trained lads are thinking about him constantly.
I'm not screenshotting all the truly horrendeous bits about how the clones were treated on kamino. but holy shit. there's a bit where Niner talks about one of his squadmates *blowing his own head off* in a training exercise. others talking about live fire at the equivalent of Eight. droids hovering around them even while they're eating and 'correcting behavior' intensively enough no one ejver disobeyed for fear of the droids.
god what the fuck. can't wait to read Triple Zero.
(PS. darman and etain's whole thing is still weird. i don't Wike it.)

For modern Star Wars AUs, you could explain Jango Fett having so many kids if it’s like that movie, delivery man, where he donated to a sperm bank then 20 years later finds out he has over 500 kids. Jangos just living life with his only child, boba, then finds out some scientists were trying to affect dna in the womb so they chose him from the list and made a couple hundred fetts

as much as i enjoy legacy of the force and overall don't mind its retcons of previous boba fett media, the one change that i just can't stand is a tiny alteration karen traviss makes to boba fett's childhood as told in the junior novels. in the junior novels, jango keeps a pet eel in his apartment, which needs to be fed live rodents known as "sea mice." boba does not like the eel at all because he empathizes with the feeder mice, to the point where, when jango tries to make him feed the mice to the eel himself, he starts feeding the eel his own food and trying to smuggle the mice to freedom. and when the eel is eventually killed in the story (not long before jango's own death), boba's only thought is "good riddance."
yet, when karen traviss retells these events in legacy of the force, she says boba was fond of the eel, not the mice. which is just!!! such a huge missing of the point!!! like, yes karen, making boba fett fond of the predator in the equation rather than the prey makes more sense on a surface-level reading, but it totally eliminates all of the tragic, ironic weight of that contradiction in his childhood: that this little boy, who idolizes his bounty hunter father, can't stomach the thought of an animal killing something else to live and despises that animal for it. the point is that he's naive and doesn't fully grasp the horror of what his father does and what he's being raised to do, the point is that we know that this is boba fucking fett and that this innocence tragically will not last, and the point is that one of the most notorious killers in the galaxy started out as a kid who literally could not even stand to harm a mouse.
like for kark's sake, karen, how's it feel to be out-nuanced by a novel for nine-year-olds
