arrowfam week day three: winter
--
"I don't know how you all do this," Mia mutters.
Connor huffs a laugh. His breath mists in front of him, a tiny white cloud that makes Mia shudder all over again. She nudges him with an elbow.
"Shut up."
"It's not my fault you opted for a bodysuit over something more sensible," Connor retorts, still smiling. "Even Dinah has a sweatsuit costume, somewhere. She's even used it for winter patrol before."
Mia rolls her eyes. "Well, fine. Tomorrow night, I'll be sure to wear that."
It doesn't do her much good right now. She didn't even know this was something she had to worry about at all; winters in Star City are usually so mild that this freak storm has brought pretty much everything to a halt, anyway. Criminals in the area must have some kind of rule for no crimes when the temperature hits below 55, right?
Roy and Ollie had walked out the door in their tank tops and tactical leggings -- Ollie calls them pants, but Mia knows athleisure when she sees it -- like it was no big deal. But Connor wears layers all the time, so while Mia's poor fingers are turning blue, he's all toasty and warm in his rejected-monk-core regalia.
Mia pouts. "Can we at least find a gas station for hot chocolate or something?"
"Mm," Connor leans gently on his bow and tilts his head, apparently mulling it over. "It has been pretty quiet. But Ollie did tell us to keep an eye out, you know."
"Are you telling me you've never played hooky before?" Mia presses. "Come on, it'll take five minutes."
"Why don't you go, and I'll stay up here?"
Mia rolls her eyes and gestures to herself. "Where, exactly, do you think I have a wallet in this getup?"
"Jeez." Connor rolls his eyes back at her, but there's a hint of a smile there, too. "No one ever told me having a little sister would be so irritating. Do I have to teach you how to tie your shoes, too?"
"Nope. No pockets, and definitely no shoelaces, dummy."
A stiff wind blows at them both, then, strong enough to send Mia stumbling. It's a little closer to the edge of their assigned rooftop than she'd like, and without Connor's hand immediately grabbing the hook of her elbow, she gets the feeling she might've been in for a rough night.
It probably makes her look pitiful. Sensing an advantage, Mia scrunches her face and turns to hide her nose in her free hand.
"A-choo!"
Connor sighs. "That is the worst fake sneeze I've ever heard."
"You're supposed to say 'bless you.'" And then, for good measure: "A-choo. Again."
Mia isn't sure if she actually looks that pitiful or if she's somehow managed to annoy a would-be saint, but either way, something about her whole schtick seems to have moved Connor. He slips his cape-scarf-robe thingy over his head and wraps it, nice and tight, around her own cape and shoulders.
The heavy fabric smells like Christmas and feels like a blanket; Mia tucks her cold nose into it immediately.
"Hot chocolate?" she prompts, the words muffled by her newfound outerwear.
Connor closes his eyes and lets out another lengthy sigh. "Sure. Come on, I know a place nearby. Do not tell Dad, though."
"Scout's honor!"
"There is absolutely no way you were a girl scout."
"Hey, fuck you. I know how to sell cookies."

Y/n’s POV:
It had been the absolute shittiest day. Work had been so hard lately with overtime and barely any holidays. I always came home feeling worse for wear. But today was the last fucking straw.
I woke up in a daze, tired. I got dressed for work and just as I was leaving, Dodger bumped into my legs. Hot coffee dripped down the front of my shirt and staining the white a dark brown. I quickly changed into a different shirt and left the coffee behind which made me cranky.
Three deadlines were slapped down on my desk for the next fucking week along with so much work, my head started to throb. My eyes started to burn with how close to the screen I was sitting which started to result in a small migraine as I was driving home.
And now here I was, looking for my house keys which I had seemed to have forgotten. Fat tears started to spill down my cheeks while I slid down the front door and just sat there for a while.
Hearing Dodger’s barks, I wiped the tears of my cheeks and got up of the floor before Chris could see me. He rounded the corner while Dodger raced forward toward me. I leaned down to pet him and ended up burying my face in his neck. Dodger seemed to sense my distress and started to lick my face while I tried to push him away with a smile.
When I looked up, Chris sported a concerned look on his face. His hand wrapped around my upper arm and helped me up. As soon as I was standing, I was cuddled into his chest with his hands stroked my back. He moved me to one side of his body while he opened the door.
As soon as we entered, I dropped my bag on the first chair I saw and flopped down onto the sofa. Chris walked over and sat down near my legs. His hands started pull me onto his lap where he drew my legs across his lap and my head was nestled into his chest.
He laid back on the sofa and undid my hair tie. I sighed in the momentary relief it provided. His hands drifted to my hair yet again and started to massage my hair with one hand while he used the other to play with my fingers.
My eyes shut in content and I nestled further into him but I realised I couldn’t do that without physically becoming a part of him. He must’ve realised the same thing because he released a deep laugh in my hair.
I whined at his teasing and pulled away from my very comfortable position with my lips pulled into a pout. Chris grinned knowingly and leaned to kiss me.
His arms slipped beneath my shirt and worked their way upwards. I squealed into his mouth at the temperature change and sat. up straighter to deepen the kiss.
His tongue ran across my lower lip and I opened up to him immediately. He went on to stroke the roof of my mouth with his tongue while I moaned in delight. We pulled away breathlessly after a while of just making out and I had the biggest grin on my face.
“You feelin’ better now?” he asked as he went back to stroking my spine with his slightly cold hands.
I nodded with a sigh and pulled myself up to my feet. I pulled on Chris’s hand and he got the message and got up immediately. I padded up the stairs with Chris and Dodger in tow.
As soon as we entered the bedroom, we stripped our clothes off. I pulled on one of Chris’s t-shirts while he got was only in his boxers. I stepped into the bathroom to start wiping my makeup off when Chris came up behind me and took the micellar water from my hands while instructing me to sit down on the counter.
I gasped when the cold marble touched my skin. Chris snorted at me and proceeded to rub the back of my thighs with his hands. After we’d settled down, he poured some of the micellar water onto a cotton pad and started to gently wipe it across my face getting rid of the makeup and in turn the whole day.
After he finished, he walked over to draw a bath but I shook my head no and dragged him back to bed. He lifted the covers with a flourish and a bow. I giggled at his silliness and instantaneously cuddled into the covers. He giggled and slipped in beside me and pulled me flush to his chest. My head rested on his shoulder with his arms wrapped around my waist and our legs intertwined.
“Wanna talk about it?” he asked while stroking my back in soothing, circular motions.
“There’s really nothing to talk about. T’was just a bad week,” I said as my hands absentmindedly stroked the soft hair on his chest.
A sad sigh escaped his lips as his arms around me tightened a tiny bit providing extra warmth and comfort.
I leaned up on my elbows and placed a kiss on his nose while he scrunched his face up in delight.
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine after a good night’s sleep with you, ok?” I said as I ran my fingers through his hair.
“I know you’ll be fine but I want you to take care of yourself too, baby. You work yourself ragged most of the days and it’s not good for your health,” he said with a little frown.
“You’re right, I guess.” I said, embarrassed to admit my mistake.
“How about we just do nothing for the whole weekend, huh?” he asks with a giddy smile on his face, excited to just be in bed.
“I can think of one thing we can definitely do and we don’t even have to leave the bed.” I said with a smirk.
A blush covers his cheek so he hides his face in my neck, trying to will away the red. I laugh and pull him closer by his neck and he happily settles on my chest. His hand grip my waist as he places kisses on my neck and then my chin and finally my lips. I can’t wait for the weekend!

The Winter Solstice Ball was a newer tradition at Hogwarts. Before the Battle of Hogwarts, there hadn’t been anything resembling the ball that would happen. The closest you knew of was the Yule Ball, but that only occurred whenever there was a Tri-Wizard Tournament.
Something that hadn’t occurred since the unfortunate events of 1994, when poor Cedric Diggory had been murdered by the dark wizard Voldemort. As expected, it had been mutually agreed that the tournament should no longer continue to ensure there could never be another event like Diggory’s death.
Admittedly, that had been a rather unique set of circumstances. The inclusion of the wizard, Harry Potter, in the Tournament had been arranged by dark wizards on the behest of Voldemort, meaning that Diggory’s death had been even more tragic as he wasn’t meant to be there.
In an attempt to bring more cheer to what should be a happy holiday, Hogwarts had started the Winter Solstice Ball tradition. Unlike the Yule Ball, all years were invited to attend and it also wasn’t on Christmas Day. Instead, it was held on the last day of term and was just a fun event for everyone to enjoy and let off some steam after their first semester back.
You’d always enjoyed it as a student; feeling like a grownup during the first few years and using it as a great way to flirt with boys when you were older. There hadn’t been a year that you hadn’t loved going to it.
It felt a little odd this time though as you were attending as a professor, which meant you had the job of chaperoning all the excited students for the evening. As such, you were excited for an entirely different reason as you would get to watch the First Year’s experience of the ball.
The House Elves had gone all out when decorating the Great Hall today, bringing the feeling of winter inside and taking your breath away. Standing by the open doors, you look around cavernous space with wide eyes and a bright smile. Chaeyoung was next to you, a dress of starlight gracing her body and highlighting just how beautiful she is.
You’d already complimented her as soon as you’d spotted her, admiring the elegant design of her dress and how the tiny crystals are sewn into the fabric reminded you so much of sunlight hitting frost on a winter’s day. Her long black hair was curled into soft waves with her fringe pinned away from her face with a delicate snowflake.
Where she was all light and ice, you were the sumptuous darkness of winter. Your dress was a sumptuous royal blue around your chest which slowly blended into deep midnight by your feet, a shawl of the lightest chiffon in a dark blue around your shoulders. Silver glinted occasionally, threads of it woven through the fabric of your dress and adding a little sparkle alongside the dainty silver necklace around your neck.
The two of you made a striking pair and the combination of a full face of beautiful makeup combined with the jaw-dropping dress made you feel like the prettiest girl in the room. Whether that was true or not, you didn’t care.
The hall itself matched the colour scheme of you both with long swathes of gauzy fabric in rich lavender, crisp white and shimmering silver decorating the tall windows and streaming from the ceiling. Tonight, the ceiling had been enchanted to show clouds backlit by a full moon and tiny flakes of snow fell. They didn’t reach the ground though, melting away a few metres away from the tallest person in the room.
Candles lit the room in all corners, hovering in the air and situated around the room and the tables. A large open space in the centre of the hall was reserved for dancing while a raised section before it hosted the musical entertainment for the night. Small tables surrounded the floor, each only big enough for six people and with white cloths embroidered with tiny snowflakes in silver.
Platters piled high with finger foods dotted the tables alongside empty goblets and jugs of pumpkin juice and butterbeer. A few of the ghosts that haunted Hogwarts floated through the tables, greeting the formally dressed students with cheer and getting into a few conversations with some of them.
Already the hall was filling nicely, students greeting you happily as they rushed inside to meet up with friends and a few of them had already begun to dance. Some of them danced together, trying to figure out how to ballroom dance with the typical awkwardness of teenagers discovering their hormones, and others danced in friend groups. The latter seemed to just be having fun, shaking their bodies wildly to the beat of the music.
“I remember doing that.” Gesturing towards a group of mixed house Fourth Years, you grin at Chaeyoung before chuckling at the memory of dancing like that with Jisoo, Robert and Candace. That had been your ‘group’ of loyal friends throughout your years at Hogwarts, though only Jisoo had remained a close friend once you’d all left.
“Merlin...me too. I had no rhythm back then. Still don’t. Dancing is not for me.” Chuckling, you lean into her and push until she staggers away from you a little before returning the gesture. Glancing around the hall, you note the more introverted people sitting at the tables and sipping at drinks. They don’t seem to be uncomfortable but you resolve to check up on them throughout the night to make sure they’re okay.
“One thing I do love about working with such handsome men here? They make the ball so much better to enjoy.” Chaeyoung hums over the top of her goblet of butterbeer, her refined brows rising in amusement as she looks across the hall. Following her gaze, you have to hide a smile as you take in the sight of some of Hogwarts most eligible bachelor professors and how well they smarten up.
Park Jimin is standing next to Kim Taehyung, his silver hair styled even more elegantly than normal while his dress robes look to have been perfectly tailored to his slim body. A white bow tie adorns his neck and he’s smiling at whatever Taehyung had told him. The Gryffindor Head has his usual boxy smile and you note that he scrubs up just as nicely. Together, they make a lethal pair in terms of looks.
“Now, now,” You muse lightly, looking over to Chaeyoung with mischief on your face. “We’re here to chaperone, not to swoon over good looking men like the teenagers we teach.”
A derisive snort is the only response she gives you, but you see that she’s not taken her eyes off the two younger men. Idly, you wonder which would make the perfect partner for her. You’d consider Taehyung to be a good candidate as their fun-loving natures would get on well, but there’s something about Jimin that makes you think he’d be an even better pick.
She wouldn’t even have to change her last name.
Any more thoughts you have on the subject vanish when the newest professor walks through the door. Black hair made darker from some kind of styling gel is swept up from his forehead, a strand or two falling stubbornly and giving him an almost charming appearance. Deep black robes sweep from his shoulders, covering up a suit that highlights his body in all the right ways.
Unlike Jimin and Taehyung, his outfit was completely black and you swallowed instinctively as you let your eyes run down his frame. Hoseok pauses at the doorway, pink lips moving as he talks to Nayeon, the divination professor. She looks pretty in a floaty dress of bubblegum pink and fizzing lilac, her smile genuine and eyes sparkling as she looks up at him.
Lips twisting, you turn away from the sight and don’t even notice the way Chaeyoung is watching you closely, her lips turning up in a smile she tries to hide. Looking away from you, she catches Seokjin’s questioning expression across the hall and nods at him subtly, enjoying the way the astronomy professor gets a determined look on his face.
“Speaking of men who are too beautiful to be real, Jung Hoseok always looks so good at these events. How is a man like that allowed to even exist?” There’s a breathy note to Chaeyoung’s voice, causing you to frown at her a little before looking back over in his direction.
Nayeon is still standing there, a forlorn expression gracing her face as she watches Hoseok move away from her. It’s only then that you realise he’s walking towards you, causing your eyes to widen in surprise. Confusingly, you’re a little unsure of what to do or how to act.
Not when he’s looking like that. This is not the shy and awkward Hoseok with his dress robes too big for him, the only memory you have of him at the Winter Solstice Ball. He couldn’t be any further from that teenager and you don’t know how to handle that.
Especially when he gives you that breathtaking smile, his cheeks rising and dimpling while his dark eyes shine in delight. You should’ve known the Jung genes would result in him growing into an attractive man; his sister was one of the most beautiful people you’d ever seen.
“Y/N, Chaeyoung,” He bows his head to you both, that smile just as prominent and you nod back to him a little awkwardly. “You both look beautiful tonight. Winter is personified with your colours, it’s nice.”
For a moment, you’re a little lost for words on how to respond to him. You couldn’t recall the last time you’d been so casually complimented, especially from a man. A man as attractive as him. It causes you to swallow wrong and you cough loudly, pressing a hand to your throat.
“Thanks, you’re looking pretty fine yourself tonight,” Chaeyoung teases him, causing that smile to become a little more bashful. “Anyway, I’m going to leave you two alone for a moment, okay? I need to go talk to Seokjin about something.”
You watch her go with wide eyes, noting with suspicion that she’s moving a little faster than you’d expect and you wonder if she’s up to something. But then you realise that you’re being left alone with Hoseok, who’s casually looking you up and down while you’re attention is elsewhere.
It’s only when he catches your eye when you look back, a brow raised, that he realises you’ve caught him. Hoseok turns his head quickly, probably giving himself whiplash and you have to hide the snort at the soft blush on his cheeks.
He may be all grown up now, but he still reminded you of that shy boy who never quite knew how to talk to you.
Reaching out, you poke at his chest and grin at him.
“She’s right, you are looking good tonight. Cleaned up very well.” Hoseok gives you a droll stare and you laugh, feeling any awkwardness rushing away as you both fall into the easy-going nature of your friendship.
The rest of the evening goes by in much the same manner with the two of you separating on occasion to handle issues with students or just to do a walk around. Apart from that though, you both end up spending more time with each other than with anyone else. Conversation flows easily like a fast-moving river and you find yourself laughing more than you have in a while.
You only have to break up one fight between two young boys; the culmination of weeks of tension between the two finally bubbling over. It starts with raised voices before escalating to blows, resulting in you escorting the two to Madame Pomfrey to check for any injuries. After that, you leave them in the hands of Park Jimin to discipline them given their house.
When you get back, you look around for Hoseok or Chaeyoung. You can’t see either of them, causing you to take up a place at the back against the wall to observe for any fallout from the fight. Thankfully, the mood seems to have picked up and you wonder if that’s got anything to do with the more upbeat music that’s being played.
It was never nice watching your students get into fights with each other or lose friendships, but you knew that was part of growing up. The thing about teenagers, and kids, was that they were incredibly resilient. You did not doubt that they would both be back to being friends within a week or so.
“All sorted?” Comes a deep voice to the right, the sound closer than you expected and causing you to jump slightly. Turning to look, you note that Hoseok has turned up out of nowhere and you relax at the sight of his familiar face.
“Yeah, no injuries to each other apart from wounded pride and friendships.” That causes Hoseok to snort and roll his eyes, leaning back against the wall alongside you. Suddenly, you recall how many times Jisoo complained of having to comfort her brother when he’d had yet another fight during his tenure at Hogwarts.
“I’m sure you know all about that, Mr Jung. I remember Jisoo having to deal with you. You were shy but a firecracker.” He sighs deeply and you lean into him, giggling as you regale him with some of the tales she’d told you. Thankfully, he takes it all with his usual good nature and you end up segueing into other memories of your time at Hogwarts.
The exams and the studying, the professors back then and your favourite subjects. It’s something he already knows as you’ve both discussed it previously, but he indulges you and listens amiably while keeping an eye out.
You’re stopped though when he suddenly interrupts you, straightening slightly.
“Would you like to dance? There’s not as many people out there now and you haven’t danced once tonight.” His question is abrupt, causing you to falter in your conversation. Narrowing your eyes, you look him over closely and wonder if he’s being serious. And you conclude that he is.
Looking over at the dance floor, you contemplate for a moment and chew your lip before nodding. Now it’s your turn to feel shy, avoiding his gaze and trying not to catch the eye of anyone else in the hall as he leads you carefully to the floor.
There’s probably a few statues in the British Museum that are less stiff than you as you turn to him, feeling his hand as he settles it on your lower back. You’re hyper-aware of that hand; how hot it feels against you even with the fabric of the dress between you. But that pales in comparison to the feel of his hand against your own, the way he holds it almost tenderly.
Logically, you know that he’s doing that because that’s how you’re supposed to dance like this. A light touch, but it makes you feel a little strange. You’re not sure why it makes you feel like that and you find yourself staring at his long fingers, wondering if he kept up the piano he’d been taught when younger.
The music leads you both in the dance, each beat dictating where you move and you’re vaguely aware of the students dancing around you. None of them are staring or looking confused as there had been many professors who had danced together tonight. But you couldn’t help but feel like this dance was a little different.
This was the closest you’d ever been to Hoseok and his body is so close to your own that you can physically feel the heat coming from him. Every breath you take brings the smell of him into your nose, the familiar mix of rich wood and lemongrass that is so, undeniably Hoseok. And underlying all that is the smell that’s unique to him.
“Is this okay?” He asks quietly and you stare at the black button-up covering his chest, avoiding his gaze given how close the two of you are. It’s probably not the best thing to do when you realise that shirt is straining a little and you can see the outline of his torso from the light of the nearby candles.
Swallowing hard, you look over his shoulder and try to ignore the sudden knowledge that Hoseok is buff beneath his clothes. Which doesn’t help, because you find your eye trailing down his chest as you consider. It’s only when you reach his belt buckle that you suddenly look away, taking a deep breath and wondering what was wrong with you.
You’d had one too many butterbeers tonight or something, which was a terrible excuse as it had such little alcohol content that it didn’t even matter. This was Jisoo’s brother, her little brother. Not someone you should be thinking about half-naked.
Right?
Finally, though, you register his question and nod quickly in response. You’re not sure that you can talk to him without saying something inappropriate as your brain isn’t working very well right now. Not when you’re so confused about...well everything.
“Are you sure? You’ve gone a little weird. Quiet.” Hoseok murmurs, his voice low to avoid any of the students overhearing it. Sighing, you stand a little straighter before looking at him directly and giving him a firm smile. It takes a little more effort than you’d like to push away those errant thoughts but you do so.
“Fine, just worried about those students. I hate seeing their friendship ruined and them angry at each other, you know?” It’s not a lie as you are still concerned about them, but he doesn’t need to know everything going on in your head. Which is why you’re thankful when he nods slowly before spinning you around.
“They’ll be okay. I’ve been doing this job long enough to know that they’ll be back to being friends sooner rather than later. They’ve already got some of that testosterone out by punching each other, which I’d rather they didn’t do but Jimin will talk it out with them. Don’t worry too much, they’ll be fine.” It’s sweet how considerate he’s being and you can hear how genuine he is in his voice.
You don’t get to say anything else though as the tempo increases when the song switches over, causing Hoseok to twirl you away from him with a laugh. All around you the dances start to get a little more energetic and you can’t help but shriek with joy as he matches the student’s enthusiasm, listening to them as they cheer at two of their professors getting involved in the frivolities.
Neither of you notices the way Seokjin and Chaeyoung watch you both closely before smirking at each other.
-
Glancing around the room, you note how most of the students had already left and gone to bed for the night. The clock had struck midnight a while ago and you had to press a hand to your mouth as you yawned, turning your head away to be polite. A few remaining students were still dancing on the floor but even as you watched, some of them started to walk towards the exit.
Looking over at Chaeyoung, you caught her eye with a wave and smiled with relief when she nodded and made a shooing gesture. Turning to Hoseok, you tried to hide another yawn and almost giggled when you saw that he’d caught one from you, his mouth wide as he didn’t even try to hide it.
“I think we can go now. Chaeyoung gestured that we can leave so I think they’re going to hustle the last students to bed. Something which I’m also very excited to do because I feel like I’ve been awake for two days right now.” Blinking and almost trying to stretch your eyelids by widening them as far as you could, you almost missed the way Hoseok laughed at your antics.
“Tired? It’s not even two in the morning, I expected better of you.” He teases, gently pushing his elbow into your arm before avoiding your hand as you try to swat him. You’d admit that he looked a lot more awake than you did, which you’d say wasn’t fair but you don’t think you’ve ever truly seen him look tired.
“Well, you’re still young and spry. You’ll learn when you get to my age.” Moving off towards the doors of the Great Hall, you grab a tiny triangular sandwich from one of the remaining platters on a table as you pass by.
Light pressure on the small of your back causes you to arch slightly, your chest moving forward and you tilt your head to look at your companion. There’s no expression on Hoseok’s face, nothing to indicate he’s affected by touching you and you frown slightly as you wonder why it’s affecting you.
“You’re not old, I don’t know why you keep thinking that.” He murmurs, voice deep and quiet.
Neither of you says anything more for a few minutes, instead just walking quietly through the hallways. It’s a comfortable silence and you muse for a moment on how much you’ve come to enjoy spending time with him. You would happily say that he was your closest friend here at Hogwarts; something you would’ve never thought would happen when you were studying here and he was just your best friend’s little brother.
That makes you think of how defensive he always gets whenever you, or anyone else, seems to imply that you’re old. Huffing out a laugh, you bite your lip as you contemplate that for a second. Maybe he doesn’t like the implication that you, and by extension, his sister, are considered ‘older’ by the students. Or that he’s also approaching thirty.
The student’s opinions have never bothered you as they think anyone over the age of twenty is old. Nor have you been concerned overall, given the extended lifespan that witches had compared to muggles. You were finally feeling content with your career and your life, something you attested partly to growing older and becoming more at ease with yourself.
But he always got so defensive of it, so maybe he was concerned about himself.
“You don’t have to keep defending my age, you know,” Apparently you were going to query this with him and you blamed the butterbeer for loosening up your tongue. “I’m okay with it, honestly. Which means I’m okay with joking about it.”
Hoseok stiffened slightly and you spotted his expression looking a little uneasy. Frowning, you placed a hand on his arm and pulled him to a stop. Your quarters were only a few corridors away now and the two of you were given a warm glow from the candles lit nearby.
“I’m not defending...I mean, okay maybe I am. I just...I don’t want you to feel like it’s an issue.” Now you’re giving him an amused look, lip quirked up on one side as you try to hold in a small giggle.
“It’s not an issue. Have I made it seem like it was?” Tilting your head, you watch as his eyes dart across your face in an almost shy manner.
“No...well, not in the way you might think,” He looks uncomfortable and you’re about to tell him it’s okay, that he doesn’t have to continue but he does so before you get the chance to speak. “I’m just made every aware of our age difference. You know, the whole ‘you’re her best friend’s little brother’ thing.”
“Hey, I don’t do that, do I?” Now you’re a little concerned.
“No, not really. Not for a while anyway. You did when you first got here but I understood that. We hadn’t met in a while and everyone was curious about how we knew each other. But now...I don’t even know what I’m talking about. Honestly, it’s not important. You’re right.” Hoseok’s babbling a bit but you decide to let him change the conversation. You’re not entirely sure why it truly bothers him, but you’re not going to press it anyway. He deserves to have his feelings and they don’t need to be analysed.
“Okay-” Before you can say anything else, you hear the quiet chiming of bells and frown in confusion. The sound echoes a little in the empty corridor, simultaneously creepy and also ethereal.
Hoseok looks around as well, his brow knitted in confusion before he suddenly spots something about you both. Following him, you note the odd plant that’s grown from the ceiling out of nowhere. The green branches are still growing and you note with interest the small white berries that seem to be forming and familiar leaf shapes appear at the end of each branch.
A red ribbon is delicately wrapped around the stems and you see the little golden bells that let out tiny chimes as they rock from side to side in a non-existent breeze. Now you’re the one frowning as you look around you both, trying to spot who’d set a mistletoe charm to grow when someone walked beneath it.
“Mistletoe?” Hosek whispers, reaching up with one hand in an attempt to touch it. He can’t reach it and you sigh, shaking your head and crossing your arms over your chest.
“Someone has thought it’d be funny to put mistletoe charms around the castle for the ball. Certainly adds to the Christmas spirit. I’ve seen these popping up all night above couples on the dance floor. I think it’s a seasonal Weasley thing, seems like something they’d sell to annoy people.”
The mistletoe is suddenly snowing, letting tiny snowflakes drift to the ground around you both and leaving fluffy snow to settle on Hoseok’s hair and dress robes. How very romantic, you muse to yourself.
“Does it just disappear on its own after a while?” He asks, running his fingers through his hair to try and get rid of some of the snow. Smiling at him, you gently brush at his shoulders only to decide it’s a losing battle as more snow lands.
“Nope. You gotta kiss, that’s the whole point of mistletoe, right? Otherwise, it follows you around.” Hoseok sighs deeply and rolls his eyes.
“Of course it does. Definitely a Weasley thing.”
Looking back up at the mistletoe, and having to blink to avoid getting snowflakes in your eyes, you purse your lips before looking back at Hoseok. You’d long since come to terms with the fact that you find him attractive; anyone with eyes can see that. But you hadn’t planned on doing anything about it, not given who he was and who his sister was to you.
His words from earlier play through your mind though, and you wonder if he hates having to constantly know he’s given the best friend’s little brother status. Even now, months after you’d arrived and you considered him a friend, you knew that there were still people who thought of that as the most defining characteristic of your friendship.
Letting out a little sigh, you straighten your shoulders before reaching out and taking hold of his dress robes. Fuck it, you’re not one to waste a perfect chance.
Pulling him closer, you watch as his eyes dart to yours and widen when he realises that you’re moving towards him as well. And then those same eyes flick to your lips, the movement so fast that you’d almost miss it if it wasn’t for the fact that he did again only seconds later.
Combined with the zero resistance he was giving, you came to the solid conclusion that he wasn’t going to reject you. Not when you were giving him plenty of time and reason to back out if he wanted to.
Tilting your head to him, you felt his warm breath as it caressed your face, the smell of butterbeer strong. And then your lips are pressed together, neither of you sure who made the final move and neither of you gives a damn at that exact moment.
The pressure of your lips against each other is gentle at first, almost hesitant as both of you try to figure out where to go from here. All that was required was a kiss, which was what you were both doing right now. But you didn’t quite want to let him go just yet, not when you knew he probably had so much more to offer.
Shifting, you manoeuvred your way into a position that made the kiss a little more personal and no longer like two teenagers who’d never kissed in their life. Letting go of his robes, your arms move to wrap around his neck and you run your fingers through his hair, enjoying how soft the black strands feel against your fingers.
A quiet noise leaves Hoseok, his arms sliding around your waist to pull you a little closer to him while he kisses you more forcefully than before. It feels...you can’t even find the words to describe how it feels, only knowing that you’re not entirely sure you want him to stop.
Any hesitation has disappeared between you both and you simply lose yourself to the delightful feeling of Jung Hoseok against your lips, against your body and how he feels under your fingertips. It’s only when he moves a little further, his tongue asking for entrance to fire up the kiss even more, that you suddenly come to your senses.
Pushing back from him, you stare with wide eyes and only just realise that the bells have stopped. A glance up shows the mistletoe is gone and you breathe a little heavily, not realising that you’d kissed him that forcefully until now. Hoseok looks just as out of breath with an odd look in his eyes that you can’t quite figure out.
Licking at your lips, and trying to ignore the knowledge that you could probably taste him right now, you run your hands down the front of your dress robes before giving him a slightly awkward smile. Coughing, you turn your eyes away from the strangely intense gaze he’s giving you.
“Erm, well it’s gone now. So...we’re not gonna be followed by mistletoe anymore,” Playing with your fingers, you wonder if you made a very bad decision tonight. “I, erm, I’m gonna go to bed now. It’s late and...well...yeah. Thank you, for walking me here and spending time with me, you know, dancing and all that. It was nice, I had a good time and thank you. Yeah, I already thanked you. Err...get to bed safely, okay? I mean, I…”
Hoseok reaches out and takes hold of your nervous hands. It makes you jump nervously, but he just gives a reassuring smile while rubbing the back of your hands with his thumbs.
“Y/N...it’s okay. I’ll see you tomorrow. Go to sleep and have good dreams.” There’s no annoyance in his voice, no anger or outrage that you’ve gone from initiating that kiss to acting very strange in only seconds.
“Yeah...I...you too. You too.” Frowning as you walked away from him, you wondered what in Merlin’s beard you’d just done.

He had been sitting there for at least forty-five minutes--or longer--you didn’t quite know, seeing as you had only been there for forty-five minutes yourself. In the time that you had spent waiting, watching him had become a bit of your routine; he wasn’t watching, so it wasn’t like you had been disturbing anyone.
You couldn’t imagine why someone like him would be sitting alone on a night like this.
Someone must’ve been a fool to think that they could leave him at that table by himself, for at least forty-five minutes, to read over the menu for the tenth time like you had watched him do.
Granted, you had also been sitting there for at least forty-five minutes.
Perhaps the world was much crueler than you had expected...especially on this holiday supposedly all about love and connection.
He had perfect posture: the kind that made you assume he must’ve been a businessman or someone else important who had to train themselves to keep a strong composure. The suit that he wore was plain, although it looked as if it had undoubtedly cost him a small fortune. Every corner and pleat of the fabric had been pressed professionally and not a speck of dust or dander seemed to cling to it. His raven black hair too looked effortlessly tussled with the stray strand here and there that must have been planned. Those slender fingers of his pushed up his wire framed glasses now and then. Under the dim lighting of the restaurant, his eyes of a dark brown reflected a color of dark obsidian: both cold and testing.
To his side, he had a tall glass of wine that he had barely touched: you thought to yourself maybe he just liked how it looked here; like he really was just waiting, and not sitting alone.
“Have you decided if you would like to order while you wait miss?”
Your waiter with a wispy beard leaned in to speak to you over the noise of the room.
“Ah-no. Not yet. I think I want to wait a little longer. I think that they should be here soon.”
“Of course,” He bowed.
Across the room, his waiter approached him as well, likely whispering the same question. He nodded, and shooed him with the wave of his hand. Lithe fingers toyed with the stem of his glass, he he rose his head.
In your surprise, he had turned his head over to your direction of the room, and you suddenly became much more interested in the small assortment of white and cream colored roses on your table. You could feel his gaze, but you couldn’t bring up the bravery to meet it.
Under the table, your watch ticked tiny and nearly silent ticks as you waited for the minutes to pass by even farther.
How long is it acceptable to wait until you accept that they’re never coming?
In many ways, you felt pathetic and crinkled like the browning edges of those very flowers in the glass vase before you. Who in their right mind would stand someone up on Valentines Day? Out of all days of the year?
You thought to yourself that it must’ve taken some kind of evil and unfeeling person to do so...and you were the fool to think that you would’ve thought they would have showed up. For a moment, you had thought that perhaps it would be better if you left, marched right out of that door into the winter cold, gotten a taxi to the grocery store to buy discounted valentines day candy and cherry cola, then ate it all until you gave yourself a headache. As the night drew longer, that didn’t seem like the worst idea.
“Ma’am? I’m sorry, but we ask that if you are going to sit that you order an item...we have a waiting list still and we would prefer if you got your money’s worth.”
You could see the remorse in your waiters eyes. Even he felt bad for you.
Your eyes drifted to the lobster bisque that you had assumed you would have ordered had they showed up.
Discount candy? Or lobster bisque?
“--One order of the Burrata please.”
He had slipped into the chair across with you as swift as a shadow, and you hadn’t even seen him coming. From this close, he was even more breathtaking. His broad shoulders seemed to take up the whole space of the seat before you, and his creeping smile held a type of mystery that was intriguing and terrifying.
The waiter himself looked a bit surprised. “One...order of the Burrata then.”
The man sighed, then took off his glasses with finesse.
“It looks like you and I are in the same predicament.” His tone was deep, but still gentle. “I don’t think its fair to be alone on a night like tonight. I hope you don’t mind that I invited myself over.”
“N-no. Not at all.” Your throat felt dry.
Rather than respond, he smiled out in a grin that made you instantly enthralled. Even though you didn’t know him much, you knew him to be the kind of man that could wrap you around his little finger. Had it been any other day of the year, you wouldn’t have given him the time of day, but, today wasn’t any other day of the year.
“I assume you already know what you’d like to order?”
“Mm. Yes. I think I’ve looked over the menu just as many times as you have.”
He folded his arms over his chest with a little chuckle.
“I’m Jeon Wonwoo. And you are?”
“Y/n.”
“Seems like it there’s a reason that we’re both here at the same time, and...by ourselves.”
“Not...anymore.” You took a sip of your own wine with heart racing.
“You’re right.” He rose his own glass into the air which he had taken from his table. “To being alone...together.”
»»————- ♡ ————-««
Your heeled shoes fell to the hardwood floors of his apartment with a clack. His whole home seemed to be swelling with the same energy that he held about himself. It was simple, minimal, no room for anything that looked sentimental or unbecoming for someone as proper as him. The layout was mostly open with each of the rooms connecting to the other. Every item in the apartment seemed to be either gunmetal grey, or black. His kitchen was large for a relatively small apartment, and had a centerpiece of a large black marble island.
“Espresso?” He offered as he pulled at his shirt collar and tie.
“Sure.”
You wondered about you, tracing your fingertips over the leather couches and spotless upholstery of his dining table chairs. The far wall of the apartment was made of floor to ceiling windows that gave a magnificent view of the city in all it’s nighttime spectral glow. Millions of lights made up the cityscape and twinkled like faraway stars from the height of his 17th floor home. From here, you could take in the whole city fully and it filled you with an unknown sense of tranquility.
Behind you his stainless steel espresso maker made a little humming sounds, and then the air was filled with the nutty aroma of the coffee. You walked over, feeling the cold touch of the wood under your pantyhose. He placed the small cup on a saucer and presented it to you. The smell filled up your senses and it was perfectly foamy on the top. From the quality of the brew, you assumed this must’ve been his hobby.
The both of you drank your shots in silence, and you waited to feel the caffeine rush though your body.
You placed the cup down, “Thank you.”
He chuckled a little, then rose his finger to wipe a bit of the foam from the corner of your mouth. Instinctually you licked your lips after with the ghostly touch of him lingering there. He licked the remnants off his finger. All at once, you felt yourself grow weaker under the weight of his obsidian eyes. A tension too held in the air as he leaned his body lower and lower...
He tasted like coffee, much as you had expected yourself to taste as well. It was startling, but he was still gentle in the way that he had pulled your frame into his body with fingers splayed across your back. On your teetering tip-toes, you struggled to keep your balance returning the heat of his mouth. He had been smiling devilishly too as his hands explored your whole body: from the curves of your hips and your shoulder blades, all the way down to your ass which he grabbed at in handfuls. It was no mystery that he had hardened against your stomach and the feeling made you keen even further in his arms.
A deep groan vibrated his chest when your own hands explored the width of his back and clawed lightly at the fabric of his suit jacket hiding the rippling muscles underneath. He told you to continue by kissing a trail down the side of your cheek to your jaw, then to your neck where he sucked and kissed wet little reminders of adoration into the skin. Slowly, your hands snuck under the jacket and to his crinkling shirt.
In one motion, he lifted you by the back of your thighs to the stone counter which felt startlingly cold under your nearly bare legs. Here, you were allowed a better angle to throw your arms over his shoulders and push off the thick fabric that kept you at bay. You granted yourself one little peek between the kisses to take up the way that his arm muscles flexed the white cotton. He did the same with hasty fingers going to untie the thin bow that held up your blouse. His fingers tickled you as he tore the shirt up and off your head to throw it somewhere you had no idea where. After, he set to work unclasping your bra with ease, and the same needy hands cupped at your breasts firmly, tweaking your buds in-between his index and middle. Further, he traversed down your chest to suck harshly at your hardened nipples, not even caring when his teeth had grazed them slightly.
Your arousal had become painfully obvious in your underwear constricted by your tights. You couldn’t help but squirm feeling yourself getting wetter by the second. His teasing gaze never left you while he looked up at you with your perky nipples on his tongue. Shameless moans and breathy gasps from you filled the wide and open apartment, and got lost in the empty corners of the room.
You felt dizzy and breathless once he had decided to stop and opted to tear his tie off his neck.
“Can I tie your hands with this? Please?” He kissed the words into your neck and nibbled them into your ear.
You let out a little whimper saying “yes” and offered your wrists to him.
You would have never imagined it, but the blue silk looked even more lovely than you would’ve guessed. His eyes darkened too seeing how helpless you had become like this. It as as if he couldn’t help himself: he held your tied hands up to his lips where he kissed at your fingers and palms, giving them gifts of his pleasure to them.
He lowered you back to lay flat on the marble counter and the cold sensation made your whole body shiver wonderfully.
“Just relax.” He cooed while kissing down your stomach and fiddling with the zipper of your skirt.
The heat of your core had become unbearable waiting for him, and each of his teasing touches against your inner thighs and on your sides sent you spinning for more.
You were colder without your clothes, but soon he had granted you the rub of his thumb on your clit over your panties and a mischievous smile spread across his lips.
“God, you’re gorgeous.” He said, pulling your thin panties to the side to take a peek. He granted one more finger to rub over you directly and mix with your slick.
“Mm-fuck.” Your hips twisted with each of his touches and your hands writhed in the knot of his tie.
Wickedly slow, he removed your panties from your legs, then stopped to let his hot breath swirl over your twitching clit.
“Such a good girl.” He permitted you one kiss which elicited pathetic and needy moans from your mouth.
Wonwoo began his tantalizing lapping: thick and slow stripes with his wetted mouth that made you tremble. It was criminal how wet he had made you, and it was obscene how each of his kisses sounded against your clit. His cat-like eyes tested you further as if to say watch what a beautiful mess I make of you.
The mixture of cold stone on your back and the heat of your waist was terribly confusing, but you couldn’t help but get lost in it.
“Don’t you look so pretty like this?”
Your voice wavered and you lost yourself further in him while he continued. Your hands did feel trapped--you wanted nothing more to mess up that hair of his, and make it all yours to take in sinfully...but he didn’t grant you that pleasure.
It didn’t take him long to build up your orgasm, and each flick over your bud, he drew you closer and closer into melting into a shaking mess over his mouth. He built you up until you were painfully sensitive, then smiled with his gorgeously white smile when you came on his tongue, even grinding slightly to ride your release which he reveled in.
“Did you like that sweetheart?”
Airy chuckles shook your chest and you tried your best to calm your trembling body.
“Y-yes.”
“Here, sit up.”
Wonwoo grabbed you by your arms to help you up, and admittedly, you felt a bit dizzy yourself.
“Grab on.”
He prompted you to wrap yourself around him, which you were a bit hesitant of, but his now warm smile assured you that all would be well.
“Don’t worry.” He simply soothed.
You did so, even getting a little embarrassed over your arousal that must’ve been rubbing off on his clothes.
He walked the two of you over to his velvety looking couch, having you sit on his lap. Even after this while, he was still as hard as before. He returned his mouth to paint kisses into yours once more, filling your mouth with adoring comments in between each one.
“I can’t believe that you’re all mine tonight.”
His hands returned to your breasts to kneed over them more carefully this time.
“Would you like to ride my dick princess?”
It had been absentminded, but you had been grinding into his lap and against his swelling dick.
“Y-yes. Please. I-I want to.”
Wonwoo carefully helped you off his lap to remove himself of his own pants, then guided your hips over his hardened length which was much longer and girthier than it had appeared to be hidden under his pants.
“Take it as slow or as fast as you want, okay? We have all night.”
Once more his smiling kisses peppered your mouth, then you lowered yourself over him, and it was near euphoric how tightly you took him in. It was effortless in the way that the tip of his head would graze your cervix just like this. Both of you groaned out your symphony of pleasure.
“Oh fuck--” His eyes rolled. “You’re unreal.”
Wonwoo’s fingers dug deeply into your lower back, guiding the return of your hips over his length all the while giving love bites to the soft nape of your neck. Connected with him like this, the stranger that you barely knew, you felt a sense of closeness unlike anything you had felt before. He must have put a spell on you from the way each one of his kisses and the pull of your lip by his teeth made you fall deeper into him.
Your thighs straddled him harder in all of your want: you wanted to make him one with you, to have him all to yourself even though you knew he wasn’t yours to keep. The way that his faint grunts wavered in your ears was too much for you to handle. You weren’t alone. On the night that you thought you hadn’t been wanted, he made you feel as if you were the only one there was.
He hushed into you, “Cum for me, beautiful.”
Your hands now untied, you raked them though his hair just as you had wanted, chasing your orgasm roughly while you made a mess of him just as he did for you. It tightened in your core, and you used every last shred of your energy to maintain your speed over him. It was exhausting, and your legs shook the closer you got.
It flushed over your whole body, and dripped down your legs: it was electricity through each of your extremities, and then it was heat, warm as the sun that ran from the tips of your ears to your neck still throbbing from his lips pulling there, hard, as he reached his own orgasm that was left throbbing inside your walls.
A wave of exhaustion swept over you while you clung to him and he to you. He really was unimaginably handsome this close. The side of his hand caressed down the side of your dewy face.
“Would you like to be alone together...more?”

"Ice Cold", a Leon Kennedy x reader fanfiction
As an Art and Design student all you want to do is just knuckle down and finish that one goddamn piece you've been working on for months. Too bad your time is constantly stolen by your Waiter job with minimal pay, but hey, at least the tips are good if you unbutton your shirt that one more time.

Chapter 4: The Party
This chapter is intended for mature audiences (18+).
While the main core of this chapter is gender neutral and SFW, the ending is written for a general female reader. The male reader part will be in the next post separately. If you would like to read neither you will be notified when to click away and when to start reading again.
A few weeks passed after you finished your “passion project”, as Alex and Jordan lovingly called it. You went to visit Leon a few times after that again but he was often out for work, which made it hard to stay in personal contact. You never found out what he did for work and where he went but as soon as he was away from home you felt him changing a little. Even though you mainly texted each other, he sometimes even called you. When this was the case he often was drunk and you wondered if he really went out for work or just to party. As soon as he was back you never had the chance to ask him if he's keeping anything from you. Whenever you tried to talk about the calls or messages he left for you he changed the subject. So you just learnt to live with it because you didn't want to make him mad or be annoyed by you.
Since it was your birthday in only a few days you wondered if Leon forgot his idea of partying at his place. Maybe he wouldn't even be home by then, you thought to yourself.
You were just eating dinner with your roommate Jordan as your phone lit up again. “Let me guess, Leon again?” You checked your phone just to confirm their premonition. You let out a small sigh. “What is it this time? I don’t know about you, but I think he's acting kinda odd lately and I never even met him!”
“Yea, I don't really know either. Maybe he's just overworking or something, I don’t know. I mean, he always liked to drink so maybe too much work doesn't really help with that.” You lay your phone to the side, eating the rest of the food you prepared earlier. It was nothing compared to Angel’s food but it was all you could afford to buy this week. It made you think about that money Leon offered you back then. Maybe declining it wasn't your best idea.
After Jordan and you finished eating and cleaning you went back into your small room and Jordan left the house to meet with a friend. You unlocked your phone again to see what Leon was up to this time. You noticed he had sent multiple messages already, asking if you were ignoring him or whatever. You quickly answered and reassured him that you weren't ignoring or pissed at him. He then asked about your day and what you were up to the next few days. You let out a small laugh. “Hmm, I don´t know.. Maybe celebrate my birthday or something like that.” You were unsure if he was just messing with you or actually forgot about it. You tried to respond calmly but it didn't really work as you hoped it would. Instead you sounded wayyy too ironic and pissed and you were angry at yourself.
You wanted to throw your phone away but Leon answered once again before you had the chance to do so. “I’m just messing with you, Buttercup ;) how could I ever forget your birthday? - Leon”, the message said. You couldn't stay mad for too long, especially not after Leon sent a picture of him after it. You hadn't seen him in so long so you weren't really prepared for what's gonna come. And even if you had seen him before, nothing could have prepared you for this. He sent a picture of himself, probably after working out. He was looking at the camera, his face in bright red and sweat covering his whole upper body. And he wasn't even trying to hide his muscular body. You were unable to move, you didn't even know what to do or say right now. You were happy that Jordan was out of the house right now, that meant you could have some alone time to yourself and that picture…
Another few days flew by and before you knew it, it was your birthday. You were woken up by Jordan, who came into your bedroom singing “Happy Birthday” as loud as they possibly could. You looked at them tired but soon had a smile resting on your face. After Jordan finished singing they came over to give you a nice hug. “Happy 21st birthday! I got us a small cake, we can eat it now if you want. And.. I also got some presents for you!” They pushed you out of the bed and into the small living room.
On the small table was a cake and a few small presents, but the biggest was seated on the old couch. “Leon!”
You had a big smile on your face and practically ran into his arms. “Happy Birthday, Buttercup. I hope my little surprise worked.” You nodded as hard as you could and sat down besides Leon. You opened the presents from Jordan and thanked them for it. Then Leon reached down into a bag that was laying next to his feet. “I also got you something. You’re probably gonna need this today.” You looked at him confused, took the wrapped present and opened it. You felt some kind of fabric on your fingers and pulled it out.
You spread it out before you and realized that Leon had bought you your own suit. You actually remembered a similar one in Leon’s closet back then. “Wow, Leon! This is so pretty, I don't even know what to say!” You went back to hug him again.
“Don't worry about it. Angel actually got you something for it as well. Here.” He gave you another small bag. In it was a purple bow-tie, the exact purple you painted the living room with. In the bag was also a fake clematis, which you could put into your suit jacket pocket.
“This is so nice! Thank you guys so much! I can't wait to wear it.” Jordan and Leon had to laugh because of your excitement.
“Let's eat some cake first, birthday kid, before you mess that new fancy suit of yours up!” Now it was your turn to laugh. You nodded in agreement before sitting back down. Jordan cut the cake in three pieces and each one of you enjoyed their piece of it.
After eating and drinking some tea you gave Jordan your dirty plates so they could clean them up. While they were doing that you grabbed your new suit and went to go into your room. “I'll be back in a few. Please make yourself comfortable and if you need anything, just ask.” You told Leon before leaving the living room and going into yours. You got rid of the pyjamas you were still wearing and put on some fresh underwear.  You then lay the suit on your bed and looked at it in detail. It contained black pants, a white collared shirt with shiny buttons, an almost blackish purple vest and jacket with the fitting bow tie and flower from Angel. You began putting on the pants, followed by the shirt and vest. You then put on the bow tie and went to leave the room with the jacket and flower laying over your arm. Before stepping outside though, you realized you didn't have any fancy shoes that fit your outfit. You decided to just put on some white sneakers, hoping it would look at least kind of okay.
As you left the room you almost walked into Leon, who was standing in front of your door. “Oh, I’m sorry. I just wanted to see if everything was alright..” He looked at you from head to toe. “Wow.. You look wonderful, Buttercup.”
You felt your cheeks heat up once again as you tried to find the right words to thank him. “Thank you so so much, Leon. I don’t think I've ever worn something so fancy and expensive, I really like it.” You looked up to him, a big smile covering your face.
Leon then reached out his hands, fixing your bow tie a little. “I just gotta make sure you look perfect. Now, put on your jacket so I can add that flower and I think then we should be ready to go.” You nodded and he helped you get into the jacket. After that he added the clematis into your chest pocket. He then took a step back looking at you. “This is perfect. Well then, should we go?” He held out his hand for you to take before going to the front door. You grabbed your phone and keys and then left together with him. Jordan was already waiting outside, also wearing a shirt covered by a black vest and some jeans. The three of you then left the building and went to Leon's car.
As you arrived at Leon’s home you already saw multiple people putting up signs or preparing stuff. You looked at Leon shocked, since you didn't think it would be this big of a party. Even Jordan couldn’t stop themself from letting out a surprised “Wow.” You nodded in agreement, unable to find any words. The moment Leon stopped on the driveway you could see Angel coming closer and then opening the car door for you. You thanked her and got out of the car, also thanking her for the presents she got for you. For a short second it seemed that she had a tiny smile on her lips but it happened so fast, you weren't sure if you just imagined it.
You felt a light tap on your shoulder taking you back to the now. “Come with me. I actually got another present for you. But it wouldn't fit in your home.” Leon took your hand and led you through the crowd of people. He then let go of you, standing behind you and covering your eyes. “Do you trust me?” He asked to which you answered with a slight nod. You felt him start walking so you also started going forward. After a short while of walking and taking turns he finally stopped you. He slowly lifted his hands from your eyes and added some dramatic sound effects with his mouth.
As soon as your eyes got used to the light you looked around. You were still outside near the house, but somewhere you never went before. In front of you stood a black car, already showing signs that it wasn't completely new. You turned back to Leon, looking at him confused. “What..What am I supposed to do with this now?” You asked him kind of dumbfounded as if you missed something.
Leon let out a small chuckle while walking to the car and unlocking it. “This, my dear, is your own new car. I mean, not really new, I used it before and it's actually kind of old, but I don't have any use for it anymore.”
You looked at him, still unsure on how to react. “You do know that I don't have a driver's license, right?” You slowly walked toward the car and checked it out.
“Of course I do. But I took care of that as well. A friend from work will be your teacher for a few weeks. You’re going to be getting driving lessons every day and before you know it you can drive all by yourself. I promise you, everything is gonna work out just fine.”
You still looked at him, raising an eyebrow. “I- Leon, this is really nice of you but-”
He stopped you before you had the chance to finish that sentence. “-Nope, no buts. I'm giving this to you now and I don't want you to return it to me like that money a few months back. You hear me?” Before being able to argue he threw the car keys over to you, leaving no room for discussion.
You sighed and had to chuckle. “Alright then. Thank you, Leon. I mean it. I don't know how I deserve all this. There's no way I'll ever be able to repay you.”
“That's the reason all these things are gifts, Buttercup. I don't want anything in return. I just like to help you out a little.” He winked at you before taking your hand and leading you back to the main party.
From a few meters away you could see Angel talking to another woman and a man. You recognized the man as the one who was with Leon at that bar a few months back. He was also wearing a fancy suit. The woman next to him was wearing a yellow dress, making her an eye catcher when combined with her pink hair. Leon and you walked right up to them, unfortunately interrupting their conversation. Leon cleared his throat, making your presence known to them. The three of them turned to look at you, realizing who you were. “Happy birthday!” The small woman with the pink hair pulled you into a hug, resting her head on your chest as she rocked you back and forward. “Angel has told me a lot about you!” She said as she pulled away. “Leon’s friend!”
Leon introduced them to you. “This is my colleague Chris and his assistant Daisy.” He pointed toward the two people and gave you a smile.
You let out a small “Hello” before you started talking some more. “It’s nice to meet the both of you.”
“It’s nice to meet you properly.” Chris held out his hand for you to shake and you gladly accepted it. “It’s weird to think that just a simple dinner between Leon and I allowed for the two of you to meet.” He chuckled. Chris then began to talk about how long he and Leon had known each other and that they often go out for “jobs” together. You tried finding out what kind of jobs they were, but never got a serious answer. At one point it was just you Daisy, Angel and Leon. They began to tell you about their relationship and how long the two of them had been together. You had never seen Angel so happy.
After you guys warmed up, Leon left you to stay with them to change as well. The three of you went to the backside of the house to see the preparations that Leon and Angel made. Eventually you ended up sitting down at one of the patio tables with Chris and the two of you drank a glass of champagne together.
You and Chris chatted for a while as you began to see the courtyard fill up with people. You barely recognised anyone and wondered who invited them all. There were college kids and older adults.
After a small while Leon came back to you and Chris, now also wearing a suit that looked identical to yours. You looked at him and couldn’t hide a smile. “Looking good, Mr. Kennedy.” You said to him jokingly.
“I can only return that compliment.” He winked at you. As the last guests arrived, Angel allowed for people to get the fresh food that was just finished up for them. You also got a plate and went to get something nice to eat. You and Leon went up together and he helped you pick out some food, although it was plain you just went for some meat and cheese. After getting your dinner, you and Leon sat down next to Chris on a small table. Soon after, Alex and Jordan also joined filling all your glasses with some champagne they found on their way through the house. You didn't even want to ask where they were sneaking around and just thanked them. Like always, Leon added some ice into his drink before clinking your glasses together. You all then ate and drank together, enjoying each other's company and having a lot of fun. This time you didn't really worry too much about how much you or even Leon had drunk. You were just glad to have a big birthday party with all your new friends.
Once it hit around midnight most of the guests began to leave, leaving only a handful of you left. The evening was really great, you met some new people and also drank a lot. Now you and Alex sat at the edge of the pool with a bottle of beer in each of your hands. You must have been there for a while because at some point Leon came over to tell you to get away from the pool. “C’mon, you’re going to get cold over here.” He held out his hand for you to take but rather than accepting it like always you simply looked at it.
“No.” You replied to him as you looked out towards the pool and you took your shoes and socks off, placing them behind you on the floor. “I’m having a grand ole time over here!” You dipped your feet into the water.
“I don’t want you to fall in.” He crouched down beside you and looked at both you and Alex. “The pair of you are pretty drunk and I’d rather you stay with the adults.”
“I am an adult, Leon.” You turned to scoff at him, pointing your finger in his face. “I’m pretty sure I know how to look after myself. I can make my own decisions, I don’t need your help!”
“Fine.” He stood back up. “Just be careful okay? I’m surprised that no one fell in the pool and I don’t want you to be the person who does it.” He turned around to head back to where he was originally sitting with Chris, beside the giant heat lamp that sat on the patio.
“Oooo, I don't want you to be the person who falls in the pool…” You rolled your eyes at Alex as you mimicked what Leon said. “I won’t fall in.” You chuckled to yourself as you began to take your jacket off. “I’ll willingly go in!” You tossed your jacket over to your shoes and you pushed yourself off the ledge and straight into the freezing cold water. Alex looked at you surprised, then jumped in after you. You could see Chris trying to hide his laugh while Leon looked at you shocked. This wasn't what he expected to happen. He didn't exactly have a plan for his next step, so he just decided to let it happen. So now you and Alex were acting like little kids playing in this big pool. After a while however you were getting bored, deciding to get out of the cold water and drinking another glass of whiskey that stood on one of the tables, just waiting for you guys. You sat down on the garden chair, your new suit completely wet, leaving you freezing cold. Leon already went inside to get you two some towels to get at least kind of dry.
You tried to hide your shivering but after a few minutes Leon noticed it anyway. "You know, I told you it wasn't the best idea to get into that pool, right?" He gave you a smirk, showing that he knew exactly that he was right. You just shook your head, letting some water fly through the air and wetting Chris who was sitting next to you. Leon let out a sigh, standing up from his chair. "Follow me. I'll get you some dry clothes." You let out a groan, feeling like a child the way Leon treated you the last few minutes. Nevertheless you stood up from the place you were sitting, slowly following Leon. You suddenly felt the alcohol you drank in your body making you walk unsteadily. Leon seemed to notice and even though he wasn't exactly sober either he helped you walk. Together you went inside the house and into his bedroom. You tried not to touch anything fearing you would make it dirty, but as soon as you went into his bedroom you couldn't keep your balance anymore. You lay down on his bed, muttering a quiet 'sorry'. Leon didn't seem to care and just went into his closet and grabbed out a single black t-shirt. It was heavily oversized but you still accepted it. It was a combination of you being soaking wet and all of the drinks you’ve had throughout the night but you instantly began to unbutton your shirt and you tossed it to the side of the room, the wet fabric beginning to create a puddle on the carpet. You slid the shirt over your head and then took off your trousers, throwing them onto the pile. “You could have just given that to me. I could have put it down the laundry chute…” He raised his eyebrows as he picked up the wet clothes and threw them into the laundry bin. “C’mon.” He placed his hand on your lower back as he walked you out of the room and back downstairs.
“You’re mad aren’t you?” You looked up at him, the embarrassment from you jumping into the pool only just kicking in.
“Why would I be mad, Buttercup?”
“You told me to come and sit with you and Chris, but noooo I wanted to be stupid and be annoying.” You rolled your eyes at yourself, disappointed that you might have ruined the night.
He let out a small chuckle. "The most important thing is that you have fun, you hear me?" He stopped walking and looked you deep in the eyes. "That's all that matters to me." You instantly got red, unable to move or answer anything to what he just said. “I’m happy if you’re happy.” He placed his hand on the side of your face and stroked your cheek.
As you came back to where Chris and Alex were waiting, you noticed Angel and Daisy had joined them as well. They were talking a bit, well mostly Chris and Daisy anyway. Alex seemed too tired and drunk to even add anything to their conversation. When you were sitting down again Chris just got up to leave. "It was really nice getting to know you. But Daisy and I will go back to our hotel now, we have something to do tomorrow. Maybe we can have an evening like this someday again." You gave Chris and Daisy a goodbye-hug and they went to leave. Angel accompanied them to their Taxi they must have called when you were changing your clothes upstairs. After that she went inside, already cleaning up some parts of the house. Alex decided to also go inside, not helping Angel but rather to get some sleep. That was probably the only good idea they had in that state. You sat down on the garden bench taking another sip of your drink. Leon placed himself next to you, also drinking another glass of whiskey.
FEMALE VERSION (starting now)
MALE VERSION
It was just the two of you now. “Thanks for the party, Leon.” You looked up and smiled at him and he looked down and did the same. You weren't sure if it was the alcohol or maybe the hypothermia sitting in but you felt so hot looking at his face so closely. “I’ll be sure to remember it.”
“Are you sure you’re not too drunk to remember?” The smell of whiskey from his breath filled your nostrils and sent a warm feeling down your spine. Even though your soaking wet hair was keeping you cold, you felt so warm next to Leon. You simply let out a small chuckle at his little joke.
Leon held his arm around your waist, pulling you more onto his lap and allowing for you to lean on his chest. Your hair drenched his shirt, his fancy branded dress shirt. Once you realised what you had done you pulled away from him and apologised. “Oh god. I’m sorry, Leon.” You pulled the towel off of your shoulders and began to dab it on his chest, only making it worse. All you were doing was spreading it and making his shirt even more see-through, you would have been lying if you said you didn’t like what you saw.
“It’s fine.” He chuckled at you. “I’ve been wanting to take this shirt off all evening, it’s starting to irritate me.” He slightly leant forward so that he was no longer leaning on the back of the chair but also making sure that you stayed on his lap. With one hand he undid the buttons on his shirt while the other was placed on your hip, making sure that you didn’t fall. You watched him closely as he undid his buttons, even helping him with the very few that he struggled with. The only time he let you go was to allow for him to slide the sleeve off of his arm, but he instantly put his hand back, with slightly more grip than before, making your ass go slightly numb. Yet again, you’d be lying if you said you didn’t like it.
“Can I ask for one last birthday present?” You were shocked with yourself when you said that. The words came tumbling out of your mouth without any thought.
Leon placed his drink on the armrest of the chair and then placed his hand on your thigh. “And what is that, Buttercup?” He asked.
“I-” You swallowed hard, not being able to stop what you were about to say, it was like you were possessed. “I want you to fuck me.”
“Huh?” He answered. You knew he heard you, he just wanted to be a complete asshole. “I’m getting old, my hearing isn’t quite what it used to be.
“I said. I want you to fuck me, Leon.” You repeated yourself.
“Oh really?” He raised his eyebrows at you as he smirked. “Where’s your manners, Buttercup? I mean you’re going to have to ask a bit more politely than that.”
You were a bit taken back by Leon’s response, you were half expecting to be thrown onto his driveway and being told to never come back. But you were excited that you got a different reaction. “Please Leon. I want- I need you to fuck me.” You stuttered as you talked due to him sliding his hand up your thigh, playing with the fabric of your short mini dress. “I’ve been wanting you ever since you sent me that photo of you while you were away.”
“Did you touch yourself to that photo?” He asked you, correctly thinking that you had. You simply nodded at him, unable to get any words out as his hand was completely under your oversized shirt, fiddling with your skimpy underwear. “And you didn’t even think to ask for any more photos?”
“I didn’t want to overstep.” You admitted, shyly looking down.
He whistled at you as he didnt want to move either of his hands. “You could never overstep, Buttercup.” He hooked his finger around the side of your underwear and pulled it down your legs. “If you want anything from me, you can always ask.” He gave you a wink as he twirled your underwear around his finger, followed by him then throwing it onto the table in front of you. “What can I say?” He let go of your hips and placed his hand on the back of your head, slowly pushing you towards his face. As he was doing so his other hand felt like magic to you, his large fingers slowly caressed you and massaged your inner thigh. “I'm a giver.” He winked as he kissed you heavily. The both of you letting out the stress that neither of you knew you had, both of your shoulders untensing and collapsing. Your entire body had melted around him, you were like a puppet being played by his strings.
“Go on.” You heavily whispered to him.
He chuckled as he continued to kiss you, his stubble tickling your face. As you were preoccupied with his face, his fingers slowly but surely inserted their way into you, gracefully pumping in and out of you. “Are you alright?” He asked after he noticed your face was a little uncomfortable.
“Yes, yes.” Your breathing was heavy and you did feel uncomfortable, not because of Leon, but because you were anxious. “I- I’m just nervous.”
“What’s there to be nervous about?” He asked as he pulled a strand of hair out of your face.
“I’ve never done this before.” You admitted to him, but he didn’t seem phased, if anything he was excited.
“And?” He stroked the side of your face. “That doesn’t mean anything.”
You felt relieved at his response, and you began to relax, letting Leon do his thing. As he slowly moved his fingers in and out of your body his thumb slowly ran circles on your clit, sure you had done this by yourself when your roommate wasn’t home but Leon was making you feel things you had never felt before. It felt different with another person doing this to you, you were used to knowing exactly what was about to happen as you were the one in control, but now? Leon has you by the strings.
Leon kept the slow pace, not speeding up and not slowing down. He wanted for you to orgasm but he didn’t want you to do it too fast. As your breathing became heavier, so did Leon’s, you could feel his cock aching under your leg. If his pants weren't such high quality you wouldn't be surprised if he would have ripped them right then and there. You leant on Leon’s shoulder as your stomach began to tie into knots, your head was buried into his neck and you quivered on him as you began to orgasm, cum absolutely drenching both his finger and his leg. Although you were a little embarrassed at the mess you had made, Leon assured you that it wasn’t a worry. He slowly pulled his fingers out of you to make sure that he wouldn't hurt you at all. “Are you okay, Buttercup?” Just that nickname alone made you want to orgasm all over again. You simply nodded, and once you opened your eyes you saw him pull his fingers out of his own mouth, then putting them back under your shirt and drenched his fingers yet again but this time he put them in your mouth. You tasted your own cum and you weren't sure what it tasted like, you just wanted to lick his fingers not your own cum.
He eventually pulled his fingers out of your mouth and smirked at you. “Do I get to give you a handjob now? Is that how it works?” You asked him, earning a small smile and a laugh.
“No.” He simply replied as he scooped his arm under your legs and the other one on your back. “It’s your party, and I'll make you cry if I want to.” He placed you down onto the seat where he was just sitting and he knelt down on the floor.
“Wha-?” He interrupted you by leaning forward and kissing you, as he did so he spread both of your legs open using your knees. “Oh!” You chuckled as he went back down to his knees, giving you a smirk as he went down. Leon kissed his way up your thighs, sucking and biting every inch of you while he made his way towards your clit. You couldn’t help but fidget as he tickled you from his light stubble, causing him to laugh and him tickling you even more. Eventually you calmed yourself down as the only thing you could focus on was Leon’s tongue and his large nose. You looked down at him and the only thing you could see was the top of his head, his hair slightly moving back and forward. As Leon worked his magic you didn’t know what to do with your hands, you kept one on the arm of the chair, gripping it around the glass that Leon had placed there earlier, your other hand moved down your own body and you tangled it in Leon’s hair, grabbing onto it hard.
“Be careful.” He pulled away and breathed heavily. “You’re going to pull all of my hair out.”
You were taken back by his heavy breathing. “Can you even breathe down there?” You asked, genuinely concerned for him.
He chuckled and brushed his nose with his finger. “I’m fine. If I can’t breathe I’ll just pull away.” You nodded at him and he gave you a small smile before going back down, you made sure to loosen your grip a little on his hair, you sufficed to just slowly running your fingers through his locks.
You tilted your head back, banging it on the chair but you ignored it. Your body was too focused on trying not to suffocate Leon as he made you feel special. You shuddered, and flinched forward, holding both of your hands in Leon’s hair. He chuckled at your reaction and the small vibrations that came from his mouth were what sent you over the edge, your body continued to shake, wave after wave as you came on his face. You felt his tongue licking up all of it.
He pulled away and sat back, leaning against the coffee table. “How was that?” He asked. He looked at the watch on his wrist and then to his left at the sky. “How about we continue this in the bedroom?” He suggested as he stood up and held out his hand for you. “Angel wakes up at the same time everyday and I’m sure you don’t want her interrupting us.”
You couldn’t help but smile as you accepted his hand, standing up on your own two feet felt a little disorienting, from the combination of how much you had drank throughout the night and what Leon just did to you, but he made sure that you could walk. He led you up to his bedroom again, making this a night to remember.
BACK TO THE MAIN STORY
The next morning you were already sitting downstairs in the kitchen, drinking a cup of coffee. Your hangover made your head pound with every move and you thought you were just gonna end up vomiting on the kitchen floor. Leon was still in a deep sleep when you got up that morning so you didn’t want to disturb him by telling him your issues.
You were sitting there, wondering what's gonna happen next. You let the past night play through your head a few more times, wondering if it was a one time thing or meant something more. You let out a deep sigh, instantly regretting it and massaging your forehead.
You didn't notice Angel coming into the kitchen, asking if you were alright. You told her about your headache and severe nausea and she reached into a tall cabinet, pulling out a pill bottle. “Here.” She passed two of the pills and a bottle of water. “This should help, but be careful because it’s going to make you kind of tired.” You thanked her and swallowed the pills without question, followed by downing the entire bottle of water.
You sat beside the window with a large mug of coffee that you made for yourself, looking at the heavy rain that pelted against the window, just thinking about the possible outcomes now. It wasn't like you were regretting the past night, you just never had an experience like that.
Just after hearing a deep cough from behind you, you were taken back to reality. "Angel told me you were feeling sick, is everything alright?" You turned around, seeing Leon stand in the door frame. You took a deep breath, trying to find the right words.
"Yea.. it's just, well.. I don't really know actually." You took another sip from your coffee and felt Leon taking a seat next to you.
"Is it because of what happened last night?" He looked at you worried, scared that he might have taken it too far back then. You tried explaining it to him, failing miserably. “Are you embarrassed to be with an old man like me?” Leon put himself down. You shook your head, too hard making you feel sick again but you tried to ignore it.
"That's not it.. I'm just.. I don't want this to be just another one night stand to you. I don't know what I want but-"
“I won’t abandon you, if that is what you’re scared of.” Leon looked at you seriously and took your hand in his. You weren't really sure if there was still some alcohol inside your body controlling your actions, but you brought your head closer to his. You weren't really sure what it was between you and Leon, but you knew you were way more than just friends.
You felt Leon's hand on your cheek, also getting closer to you now. You closed your eyes waiting for him to take the next step. And before you realized it, you felt his soft lips resting on yours sending butterflies through your entire body. You smiled into the kiss, leaning closer to him.
“This is just like the movies huh?” He chuckled.

People never look up in Gotham.
First of all, it's practically always raining. Heavy, slanting sheets of rain which more often than not sting the eyes in a way that pure water really shouldn't do. Secondly, you're likely to look up and see some supervillain cackle as they ready their death ray and then what? Better not to look at all.
All this means that a vigilante not long returned from the dead can observe the city go by beneath him in relative peace. Jason Todd, at twenty two, finally finds a sense of quiet he hasn't felt in a long time when he's perched up high on one of Gotham City's ubiquitous gargoyles, rain soaking his hair and the white streak the Pit gave him (that still surprises him in the mirror), watching cars drive past and Gothamites go about their business. The whole event makes him calm enough to finally give some thought to you (as if he hadn't thought of you every day since he'd come back, even when he was too raving with Pit madness to know who the girl in his mind was.)
                                                            ~
After some digging, he'd discovered that you were studying at Gotham University, just like the two of you had planned at age fourteen, perched on the roof of the manor and staring at the stars, revelling in the moment before Alfred inevitably found you and made you get down where it was safe. Jason had always planned to major in English literature and minor in creative writing, and even today he feels the tug of need unfurl deep in his heart whenever he thinks of hurrying between lectures, scribbling lines into his notebooks, losing himself in the university library. Your plans had always been more hazy, swinging wildly between dreams of ancient philosophy, or sustainable development, or Asian cinema,  or climate science. He wonders what you've settled on. He could easily find your transcript and know for certain but he still harbours a dream of making up with you, having you tell him your major and your plans and your dreams like a friend again.
Three nights a week, he discovers, you sing and occasionally play bass in a four piece band, performing in bars across South Gotham. You've been together since junior year of high school (after him, after he'd left you alone and gone and got himself blown up, a poisonous voice whispers in Jason's head as he hunches over his phone, reading your Spotify bio) - you the beautiful front woman with three other men on guitar, drums, and keyboards. Looks like she forgot you quickly enough, the voice suggests slyly and Jason can't find any way to argue. The few songs posted on your page reveal a dedication to the 80s retrowave, synth heavy music you'd loved back when he first knew you, a love shared by Dick. Jason remembers sitting in roiling jealousy as you and Dick excitedly swapped recommendations, as you sat up in the front seat of Dick's car while the two of you blasted your favourite tracks, Jason forgotten in the backseat. Just one more thing Dick had that he didn't.
 The videos he finds under your tagged mentions show you in smoky, dingy bars, tall in platform sandals and wide, high waisted jeans, casually stunning in tiny strappy tank tops and dark eyeliner. His breath catches high in his chest as he watches these videos, heart hammering in his ears as he sees how you've grown up, hears your sultry, magnetic voice wind through his thoughts. The secret crush he'd always harboured rears itself with a vengeance at these moments, torturing him with images of what could've been, with the reminder that he really never had got over you.
 Eventually Jason leans into the inevitable and turns up to some of your regular spots, nursing a surprisingly cheap drink and lurking towards the back of the room, where he can watch you but you can't spot him. Not that you would, even if you thought he looked familiar - your Jason was dead, wasn't he?
 You look like a dream, hair loose, eyes sparkling in the dim lighting of the bar. The pink and blue neon lights flicker across the lines of your face, catching on the gold of your jewellery and dazzling him. Not just him, he quickly realises, as he hears the man to his left order a drink 'for the gorgeous singer' and he can't help but look. Blonde, well dressed in suit and tie even though his top buttons are undone and his hair is askew. He just screams 'financial district' and there's a smug surety in the way he stares at you, like he's confident you won't be able to resist him. Jason grits his teeth as he watches the barman catch your attention. You lean down to hear what he says into your ear as he hands you the glass, hair falling over your shoulder. As you straighten, your eyes scan the bar and Jason instinctively sinks lower into his collar. Your eyes slide right over him. The banker asshole raises his glass at you and you smile sweetly.
 "Thanks for the drink Darren" you say, eyes crinkling at the edges, and "Darren" visibly puffs his chest, eyes trailing over your body shamelessly. Jason notices however that you only take one sip of the drink before setting it aside and not touching it again, and his shoulders release a little of their tension.
The bar closes at around 2am, and the band packs up just before this. You hop down off the stage, retrieving your bag from behind the bar, your platforms already swinging in your hand as you jam your feet into sneakers. You drag a huge grey hoodie over your tiny, spaghetti strap top, an old red jacket following quickly after. It's not until Jason's fifth or sixth time watching that he recognises the jacket as the one he used to wear everywhere as a fifteen year old, and his heart clenches a little at the realisation. A Styrofoam box of leftover bar food is pushed into your hands as you swing your bass over your shoulder, and you grin at the old barman as you wave to your bandmates, pausing at the door only to pull the hood up over your head as you run to catch the last night bus heading north towards 24th and Fairway. From the rooftops, Jason observes as you drop into a window seat, leaning your head against your bass and watching the raindrops slide down the glass for the forty five minutes it takes to get to your apartment building. He knows it’s weird to watch you like this, but panic claws its way up his throat every time he even imagines telling you he's still alive. Better that you never know, better you remember him as he was than be confronted with how he's changed, better that Jason never has to see Bruce's look of disappointment as it manifests on your face.
 Far, far too early the next morning you emerge again, this time with sweats replacing your jeans and a backpack replacing your bass. Earphones jammed in your ears, you nod your head absently as you walk to class. There are dark circles under your eyes, and your hair is still wet from the shower and pulled into a hasty braid, and Jason can never bring himself to look away.
                                                            ~
 Some days he indulges himself, tucks one of the battered paperbacks he's swiped from the library at the manor into his back pocket, walks around the campus like he's a student. It's stupid, really, and the shame he can't shake makes him a little awkward, but none of the other students look twice at him, even on the hot days when he's still in long sleeves and jeans, keeping his hands tucked into his pockets to hide the thick bands of scar tissue across his knuckles. He's not even the biggest guy on campus, considering GU's mediocre football team, and generally Jason finds that an old ballcap to cover the white tuft in his hair and keeping his head bowed prevents anyone's gaze ever resting on him longer than a second.
 It's useful, being so invisible, but lonely, and inevitably Jason gets too used to it.
 He gets a fright, one day, when he's reading alone under a maple tree in the middle of the quad (Ray Bradbury, an old favourite) and suddenly hears your voice, loud and laughing, only a few feet away. He jumps, eyes flicking to you in panic, before he remembers himself and tucks his chin, lifting his book slightly to cover the bottom half of his face. His caution is ingrained but unwarranted; you never even glance at him. Safely unnoticed, he watches with an ache in his chest as you hurry across the grass, kicking your flipflops off as you go until you're barefoot, casual in a big white t shirt and cycle shorts. The man walking besides you carries your backpack, and hands it to you once you flop down besides a group of people just over from Jason (unlike him, they bask in the sun). He recognises your bandmates, young, handsome, confident, as well as some girls he's never seen before. They heckle through their laughter as you hug your companion goodbye, and the two of you grin good-naturedly as he says his goodbyes and continues across the quad. The chapter heading squiggles and winds across the page, and Jason can't keep his eyes off you now, however pathetic he feels. He notices everything, from the way you giggle wildly and whisper to your girlfriends to the way the boys grab at your bare legs and pinch your sides trying to find out what you're saying. You look comfortable and relaxed and so, so happy, as you pull your ponytail loose and flick the hair tie at the dark skinned boy besides you, that he almost can't stand it. He breathes through it, slowly, like Alfred showed him so long ago, and the lump in his throat lessens, and he's able to return to his book, even if the appeal has worn off slightly and he can still feel your presence burning in his peripheral vision.
That day, when he returns to his bare, empty apartment he resolves to at least try to stop torturing himself. It doesn't stop him dropping in to your shows at least once a week, but he's working on not wanting to cry every time he sees you. He cuts down on campus visits too, and squashes the disappointment when he doesn't see you in the quad again. Mostly. It's hard being dead.
                                                           ~
"This is a new old song" you say one night, just before closing. "I wrote it a while back but I've never felt comfortable to sing it before now."
 You pause for a moment, eyes casting down, and the blonde man in the denim jacket, the guitarist on your right, pats your arm gently. Jason recognises the longing look in his eyes as he looks at you as an expression he himself had worn most of his teen years. Hell, he's probably wearing it right now.
 "It's about loving someone you can't have" you say, looking back out at the crowd again determinedly, "and it's called Jason"
 Jason starts at this, his drink sloshing over the edge of his glass and onto the bar in front of him. Distracted by the heat curling up over his cheekbones, he almost misses the next words out of your mouth:
 "Jason in this song is a bit of an asshole" you say, your lips quirking on one side, "which is a little unfair to the real Jason, who was wonderful."
 Your eyes are soft as the band counts in and Jason stares unabashedly as you start to sing.
 You were right, this Jason is an asshole, and it stings a bit to hear you sing  'he'll only let you down', but it's nothing compared to the ache he gets when you reach the chorus -
 oh, Jason, tell me what you're chasing,
because the night will never give you what you want,
oh, Jason, and if you can't escape it,
I hope you find whatever you've been looking for'
- because even though there were never any other girls, not for him, it was true that he'd left you, ran out of your life calling something about finding his real mother and never came back...
Lost in his memories, his blood is rushing in his ears and he's rooted to the spot. Normally he's long gone by the time you're heading out but this time he's still sitting at the bar and you hurry past close enough to touch, close enough for him to briefly feel the warmth of your skin on his back. Luckily for him your attention is focussed on your phone screen, cursing as you see the time, and you pass by without noticing him. His breathing is unsteady as he grapples with the realisation that all that time he'd spent silently loving you, you'd been loving him right back.
Go after her! Something whispers to him, in a voice that sounds suspiciously like Dick.
Yeah. Yeah, maybe, Jason finally thinks, breathless.
 Maybe.

Henry Cavill Master List
This was it.
Years of waiting.
Years of heartache, joy, and more love than he knew was possible.
Henry sighed and rubbed his hands against his slacks, licking his lips nervously, he rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet. Oh god. Oh god! He bent forward, fighting the urge to vomit. Why the fuck was he so nervous? It's not like this was anything new. He'd been madly in love with her for years, even when they weren't together he had held some sort of twisted hope for this very day.
Not to be that man, but Henry had been somewhat in love with her from the first week he'd met her. All of those years ago, some days it felt like an entirely different life.
“Dad,” Ivan laid his hand on Henry's arm.
“Hmm?”
“Are you okay? Do I need to get Uncle Charlie?” His blue eyes watched his father with great concern.
All morning the house had been consumed in chaos. Henry had taken up residence in the office, at the opposite end of the house from where Nell had been getting ready upstairs. His brothers – and Nell's, fathers, mothers, Ivan, and Kal had been in and out of the room a hundred and one times. Until his mother had the sense to ask them all to get out. With the exception of his best man and his dog.
Henry was thankful for the bit of silence, before the actual ceremony.  Evidently he wasn't hiding his nerves as well as he had hoped to.
“No, wild boy, I'm fine. Thank you.” Henry forced a smile to ease his son's worries. “Have you seen your mum?” Henry hadn't set eyes on her since this morning, when he was woken by Ivan jumping on their bed and urging his dad to hurry downstairs.
Ivan smirked, his eyes sparkling as he nodded eagerly. He had never seen her look so pretty, he may have even cried a little. “Dad, she looks like a princess! But without all the stupid frills and no singing mice.”
Henry laughed at Ivan's details. Leave it to Ivan.
With some tradition, Henry had yet to see the dress that Nell had picked. His only hint had been that it wasn't a traditional wedding dress, although she was confident he would love it all the same. She was head over heels for her dress. The delicate blue and white beading at the top gave way to a flowing emerald satin skirt. She'd found it while looking for bride's maid dresses.
Since they were getting married in their own garden, Nell felt that a relaxed look would be acceptable. Besides, she had no interest in putting on a big poofy, over the top dress, only to take it off an hour later and never wear it again.
Unconfirmed, Henry had a sneaky suspicion that her dress in some way matched the attire she had found for him. Nell had convinced him to go with a dark green waistcoat and slacks,  who was Henry to argue. She had been dressing him long enough to know what he would look good in. Ivan looked adorable in his matching attire.
A soft knock on the door, with something mumbled through from the hall, indicated that it was time for Henry, his best man, and his dog to take post in the garden.
“Coming,” Ivan called back, smiling like the cat who'd found the canary.
“Kal,” Henry whistled, the big dog lifting his head and huffing. Slowly standing with a yawn, Kal licked his lips and sauntered over to big Henry shaking his head. This silly blue bow tie that they had put on him was beginning to get in the way of a good nap. “Come on, bear. It's time to roll.”
“Dad,” Ivan walked beside Henry, his hands in his pockets.
“Yes?”
“Are you happy to be marrying mum?”
“I have no words to tell you how happy I am, wild boy.” Henry beamed. “Are you happy about this?”
“I guess,” Ivan shrugged and smiled. “If it makes you and mum happy. Why not?”
“Always the supportive one,” Henry rolled his eyes, chuckling at Ivan's passive demeanor.
The groomsmen looked smart, well put together, and turned out better than Henry could have imagined. Ivan stood straight, his hair styled to match his dad's, with Kal at his side. One bride's maid, then two, a third, then fourth, by the fifth Henry was again feeling like he was going to vomit. Deep breaths. Hands sweaty, he wished he'd asked to see Nell before hand. He would have been able to tell her how spectacular she looked while crying like a baby, in private.
No use wishing for that now.
As the music began, he could feel his hands shake. Kal whimpered beside Ivan and nudged his nose into Ivan's side, moving him closer to Henry. Smiling at his dad, Ivan reached out, taking his hand.
Nell had spent the morning fretting over every tiny detail of her day. Was her hair the right way, her make up as she had sampled? Did her dress fit and fall the exact way it had the moment she'd fell in love with it? Would Henry be pleased? Would he be as shaky as her? Crying and trying to catch breath.
More than once, Nell had felt like she was being sat on by an elephant. Only to be filled with sudden excitement and wanting to scream in pure delight. Her sister and mother had barely left her side since she'd woken. Ivan had come barreling into the room before dawn, jumping on the bed and shouting for Henry to get out. Leave it to their son.
Her father had assured her that Henry looked every bit dashing and handsome as she had wished. Perhaps more, now that she saw him in his perfect wedding suit. They couldn't have planned this better. The weather was amazing, for a mid November day. Nell had worked hard on her garden, since they'd moved in a few months ago, making sure it was perfect for the day.
“How is your dad?” She'd asked Ivan a few hours ago.
A mischievous grin, the wild boy shrugged. “He looks like a prince, but without the stupid Disney animation.”
Cheeky. Like his father.
Taking her father's arm, Nell inhaled and exhaled slowly. Her hands trying to steady the bouquet that she held in her left hand. Around her the music began to play, when asked about music for the ceremony Nell had casually mentioned how cool it would be to have an instrumental version to one of her favourite songs. What she hadn't been expecting was Henry to deliver.  One bride's maid...two...She closed her eyes, willing herself not to cry before she got down the aisle.
“Deep breath, Nelly.” Walt winked gently patting her hand. Nell nodded and smiled. “You're going to knock him dead, sweetheart.”
“Thanks, dad.” Her voice barely cracked above a whisper.
“Ready?” Walt looked at his youngest, smiling wide.
A slight nod, Nell took her first step forward, humming to the music to soothe her. The distance from the back door of the house to where Henry waited in the garden was exactly 152 steps, at the pace she would be going. She had practiced a time or two, while she had been home alone – using Kal as a stand in for Henry. In the garden a few chairs were placed, along with a delicate arrangement of lights. Who would have thought she'd be able to pull this all together in less than four full months.
60 people, all who were close and meaningful, around the garden to share in the day. Nell could feel the tears welling. At the end of the meticulous stone walkway, Henry stood with Ivan clutching his hand. Neither one of them did a very good job at keeping the tears at bay. Ivan reached up, wiping his sleeve across his eyes. Henry swallowed the lump in his throat trying not to sob loudly.
Ivan had been right when he'd said Princess. Nell was somehow more spectacular than Henry had imagined. Walter stopped, giving Nell a kiss on the cheek and Ivan a quick wink. Stepping forward to meet his bride, Henry let out a breath and a low whistle.
“Thank you,” He gave his father in law to be a quick nod.
Muttering back a quick congratulations, Walt took his seat in the front next to his waiting wife. Kal leapt forward a little greeting Nell with an affectionate “boof!”.
“Kal, sit.” Ivan quickly hushed the big dog.
Giving the couple a quick moment to sort themselves, Michael smiled and patiently stood. Henry had asked him to marry them, off the cuff, since he and Nell couldn't agree on anyone else to do the job. A soft laugh from the crowd when Kal tried to wiggle free from Ivan, again.
Ignoring the bit of commotion around him, Henry was lost in the sight before him. The soft, gentleness was Nell through and through.
“Oh, my darling.” Henry cooed, holding her hand tightly. Kissing the back of her hand, he smiled warmly. “You look,” he swallowed the lump in his throat. “You,” he sniffled. “Janelle, my darling.”
“Dad,” Ivan nudged him with his elbow in the back, Kal contained by his uncle beside him. “Tell her she's pretty! Don't just stand around and cry.”
A camera flashed and a few chuckles filled the air, from those close enough to hear Ivan's commentary. Rolling his eyes, Ivan sighed and gently shook his head. Adults.
“Shush, you.” Henry chuckled at Ivan, tears on his cheeks. “Nelly, you are...wow. Absolutely wow!”
“I love you,” Nell smiled, kissing his cheek. “And you, wild boy” she peeked at Ivan, “stop teasing him.”
“I love you all, and I hate to rush this moment, because you look fantastic.” Michael shook his head, trying to stop his own flood of tears, his baby sister looked absolutely stunning. “But...” He gestured to the crowd.
Nell giggled and Henry laughed. “Of course, of course.”
“I love you,” Nell mouthed quickly to her big brother.
Reciting vows that they had written for one another, exchanging their rings, and listening as Michael recited some words about love and marriage – no doubt something he had found when he went online to become ordained, Nell couldn't help herself as she became lost watching Henry. A time or two she had heard their guest chuckle, which prompted her to giggle along. Words lost to her, as she admired the man before her.
The crinkles on his eyes, the soft dimples when he smiled, or the smoothness of his voice when he read her the vows he'd written. God she had been so lucky.
“You are now husband and wife.” Michael happily announced, “Henry, I know she's my sister, but...this once I'll encourage you to kiss her.” he teased, slapping Henry's shoulder. Everyone sharing in their happiness.
Rolling his eyes, in typical Cavill fashion, Ivan groaned as his parents stood in front of everyone kissing like a couple of teenagers. His uncle shielding his eyes, Ivan giggled loudly. Thanking him for the help. He was bound to have nightmares over that kiss. Gross!
Kal wiggled and bounced on his leash, trying to convince whoever had a hold of him that he could be a good boy. He had spotted a squirrel earlier, on the east side of the house, in his duty of wedding dog, he didn't have a chance to properly investigate.
Around them people clapped, cheering the happy couple as they turned to face their guests, for the first time, as husband and wife. Nell wiped a few more tears away, sniffling. Henry smiled softly, his swiping his thumbs across her cheeks.
“Mum, momma, mum.” Ivan broke their moment, gently tugging at Nell's arm.
“Yes?”
“I love you. And I think you look really pretty. I told dad you looked like a princess, but I don't think he believed me.”
“I didn't say that.” Henry rolled his eyes, taking Nell's hand to step forward to join the guests waiting to mingle and personally congratulate the couple.
“You two are something else.” Laughing, Nell snagged Ivan gently pulling him into a hug. Kissing the top of his head, he was nearly as tall as her. Catching her mother's eye, she smiled, “I think they're waiting for us.”
“Do we have to take photos?” Ivan groaned, walking beside his parents, glancing around to see where Kal had gone off to. As best man his duty was to see his dad didn't freak out and to keep Kal out of trouble.
“Only a few, then we're having lunch and you are free to do whatever you want, for the day.” Nell instructed. “It won't be that bad. We're taking some photos here, so we don't even have to leave.”
She had opted to do as much as she could at their house, the property allowed for space to set up and still have room to wander off a little. If one didn't want to be directly in the crowd, they were welcome to take a walk around the few paddocks and wander down the small lane.
This was certainly not the lavish and large wedding that one would expect from a well known celebrity. Henry had snorted and groaned when Nell had informed him, a few days ago, that people were speculating about their upcoming wedding. The only people who mattered were those invited, as far as Henry was concerned. They had made a proper announcement about their engagement a few weeks ago, although their family and friends had known days after they had initially discussed it.
“Don't forget, tomorrow morning Bridie and Joe are coming round to take you for the afternoon.” Henry chose now to remind his son of his former Nanny's visit. “And you owe Sophie a dance.”
“I won't forget.” Ivan had been waiting weeks to see his friends from his former life in Ireland. He had marked off the days on a calendar in his room, even. He was excited not only for a party, but to see those he missed and didn't often see with his parents' work schedule.
“And you, Mrs. Cavill.” Henry winked, “Need to be ready by noon, tomorrow.”
“I will be, but I wish you'd tell me where we were going.” Nell pouted.
Henry had set up a four day escape to Rome, since they would be traveling for The Witcher press in a couple of weeks the honeymoon would be short. They had agreed to take Ivan along for the press tour, spending a few weeks together as a family. Between interviews and appearances. Easier said than done. But Henry wanted them with him, it would be nice to retire to a hotel room and have his family.
“Sorry, no can do. But I have things packed for you, Sadie helped me. I will tell you this, you're going to love it.” He kissed the back of her hand.
“Fine,” Nell sighed. “Since you're not going to tell me, shall we go around to the front and find the photographer? Before our mothers come over here.”
More than once, she had spotted their mothers watching, allowing them a few moments alone as husband and wife. Yet, keeping track of time.
“You're right, let's go around.”
The Cavill and Stewart clan were vast. Multiple siblings, spouses, and children. Trying to wrangle everyone, Kal included, into one or two large group photos had been a task. Nell was glad that the photographer was gracious and understanding. Attempting to get that many people in a space and all looking the same direction, succeeding in the second try – miracle or possibly witch craft. Nell wasn't sure, but she was in awe.
Henry's favourite photos would no doubt be the ones of his own little family. The three – four with Kal – of them together, happy and content. Nell sighed and shook her head, when Henry and Ivan went about their usual antics. Nobody else was bound to have a photo of their husband with their son thrown over his shoulder, while their giant dog jumped up trying to get in on the playfulness.
After photos and lunch, as promised, Nell gave Ivan the go ahead to do as he pleased. As long as he didn't retreat to the den and spend all day playing video games with his cousins. He had to still be around, if needed for more wedding activities. Like watching people Ooh and Awe over silly things. Did that many people need to cry over his parents dancing? His dad often looked like a wounded duck, although it never stopped him. Ivan could watch his parents dance to that nauseating Thomas Rhett song any time. His dad said it perfectly described how he felt about his life.
Whatever.  After his dance with Sophie, who he was gaining height on, he disappeared with a couple of Henry's nephews and Kal. As long as they didn't set anything on fire, they were allowed to roam and play on the property.
After a dance or two, Henry and Nell agreed to split ways for the moment. Mingling and enjoying their guests. It would be rude of them not to engage. Taking a little break, Nell stood at the back of the garden, enjoying the last bit of warmth from the day before the cool evening set in. She'd hugged, kissed, and thanked so many people that her head was beginning to swim a little.
“Has anyone told you that you look an absolute vision,” Nell's older sister, Sadie, approached extending her arms and embracing her little sister, kissing her cheek.
“I have heard that a time or two, but I think they were only saying it to be polite.” Nell winked and laughed. Gently fanning herself with her hand, it was far from warm outside, but the commotion was enough to make anyone sweat a little. Fanning herself, she blew out a breath, her cheeks hurting from all of the smiling. How could she not? If there was ever a day to walk around with a perma-smile, it was today.
“Let me guess, Hen can't stop complimenting you.” Sadie teased.
“He's said it a few times, too.” Winking, Nell beamed.
“You know, Nelly,  I'm just happy that you are happy. Cliche, yes, but as your big sister that is my job.” Squeezing her sister's hand, Sadie smiled fondly “It hasn't been easy, but what good romance is?”
“Looking back, I think we had to grow and excuse the corny, if it's yours then you need to let it go.” Nell shrugged, stealing a quick glance at Henry across the garden. Standing with one of their guests, chatting happily. “Had we not been apart, I don't think I would have realized or appreciated how much I need him. Or how much I love him.”
Henry had asked her to marry him several times in the past, getting shot down each and every one. Looking back, had she agreed, surely they would have been facing divorce by now. At the very least angry and bitter with one another, trapped in a loveless marriage with kids they resented as much as they did one another.
Life worked out for a reason.
“Sweetie,” Sadie hugged her sister, holding her tightly. “I'm so glad this worked out, because honestly, I can't think of anyone better for you. He loves you, so much.”
Hugging her sister tightly, Nell sniffled, trying to hold back another flood of emotions. Thankful, when she heard Henry gently clearing his throat, asking to steal his bride away for a moment. Hugging him as tightly as she did Nell; Sadie smiled waving them along.
“So, Mr. Cavill, what's the urgent task?” Nell linked her arm in his, leaning her head on his shoulder.
“Don't be mad,” Henry smirked, glancing around, nobody seemed to notice them escaping. “I wanted to have a moment with my wife, nobody else around.” He chuckled when Nell looked up, she'd been following his footsteps allowing him to lead her.
Around the other side of the garden, she giggled and hugged his arm tightly. “You rascal. Leading me astray, well I'll be.” She joked.
“I love you,” He whispered, kissing her temple.
“I love you, too.” Nell smiled, leaning into him. “So, this is it huh? Married life?”
“It looks like,” Henry beamed.
“I'm glad you accepted my proposal. Despite how awkward it was.”
“I would have been crazy not to, my darling.” Kissing her softly, Henry sighed happily. “I feel as though we've barely seen one another today. Would it be rude to say good night and sneak upstairs?”
An advantage and disadvantage to spending their wedding night at home. They could call it an evening anytime they wanted, but then it felt forced and rude. As if demanding guests to leave, which is not what they had intended. Nell had made it very clear that she wanted people to stay and enjoy, having car service to take people wherever they needed to go after.
“It's only 7pm.” Nell smiled, leaning into Henry, shivering slightly. “Do you really want to go in?”
Smiling mischievously, Henry wrinkled his nose. “Maybe? Is it wrong that this is our wedding night, but all I can think about is going to bed and snuggling with you?”
“Snuggling?”
“Among doing other things.”
“Ah, yes. Of course.” Glancing around, Nell furrowed her brow. A few spots had fresh dirt and Kal tracks. “Have you seen Kal lately?”
“He was with mum and Simon.”
“Hmm, well before we do anything tomorrow. We need to fix these flower beds. Someone found another squirrel it seems.”
Laughing, Henry looked at Nell for a moment, a sly smirk playing on his lips. “You are something else, my darling wife.”
“What? The dog tore apart my garden, I can't leave here with them looking like...”
“Nell, we can worry about that tomorrow. I can have Ivan and dad fix them, if you want. Or we can hire someone. I can't allow you to spend the morning of your honeymoon gardening. Which, by the way, I think we should discuss.”
“That top secret honeymoon? Are you going to tell me where we're going?”
Henry shook his head. “No, but I will tell you that it's been a while since we've been there, together,” Nell frowned. That could be just about anywhere. “We land and check in, then I have dinner reservations. The next morning, late morning, because I intend to keep you in the room as long as possible.” He bit hit bottom lip, “I have made us a booking for a couple's massages and then...”
“You have this all planned don't you?” Henry nodded, Nell winked, “what if I don't want a massage? What if I want to stay in our hotel the entire time and...”
“But we did that last time, this time...” Henry paused, eyes wide. Shit.
“Are you taking me to Rome?”
“I didn't say that.”
“You didn't have to. I think you gave it away pretty well. The only other place we've stayed in a hotel the entire time was the second trip to Jersey. Unless we're honeymooning in Jersey. Which if we are, I am fine with that, but Rome? Oh my god, Henry! Ugh, I love you! I love you. I love you! That is the perfect honeymoon.” Nell bounced eagerly, and she wondered where Ivan got it.
“I suppose you would have found out at the airport, anyway.” He teased, “So? You really like it?”
“Oh my god, of course! Henry! This is amazing. I could not have picked a better place.” She flung her arms around his neck, kissing him softly. “You are a fantastic husband. Have I told you that, today?”
“I don't know that I am as fantastic as my wife, but I certainly try.”
Take Us Home – Alan Doyle, is the song I had in mind for Nell’s entrance

Perfection
Pairings: Poppy x MC (Bea Hughes)
Warnings: None
Word count: 1900
Bea Hughes was not a spoiled brat like most of the young people of Belvoire and with the successful completion of her schooling she went straight into police work. Ever since she was a child, she had fought for her own, without any tariffs and faced human envy and selfishness. That's why when she got the job as an officer, she was determined to make this town perfect.
Perfection is a relative term. She knew she couldn't bring Belvoire to that state on her own, but she still hoped that her hard work would bear fruit. She was used to failure, but she did not allow herself to be broken. Just once. God, only once had she bowed to the pressure of her own demons and failed. So shamefully that nothing but a stone mask had graced her face ever since.
Unaccustomed to balls and parties, Bea was faced with a difficult choice: whether to follow society's acceptance and wear a frighteningly beautiful and sweet dress that completely did not suit her, or a simple, elegant suit whose graphite color matched her feelings. With a touch of distrust, she ran her fingers over the delicate material of the dress and held her breath in her chest. The coolness of the material irritated her fingertips, which were warm compared to the silky material, scratching her every now and then with the sewn-on sequins. This was not what she wanted. Not the sweetness and extravagance, but the passion and simplicity the suit would provide.
She had never needed society's approval so much, so with a sigh of relief she reached for the graphite material and nimbly threw it on. With a simple and careful movement, she tied the tie around her neck, which tightened like a noose against her pale rosy skin. Later today, people would hang her with words for this outfit, just as they had done in the past.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the gun holster that rested lazily on the elegant white bedside table. Taking that object in her hand, a shiver ran through her body, one that she always felt when touching the cool metal of a gun. Pure adrenaline, it was a feeling she so needed, and at the same time, didn't want to have. Tonight was all about perfection.
In front of her house stood a perfectly polished Ford Crown, its black and white hues exuding a sleek look. Tonight, however, because of the required elegance of the show, Bea brought along her beloved Ford Mustang that she inherited from her parents. It was the last thing they had left that would always have an important place in her heart and life. Slipping into the driver's seat, she let out a shaky breath. She was getting closer and closer to disaster. A sea of piranhas that were ready to tear her apart on the spot and, as usual, with stoic, even irritating, calmness, she would let them.
Keep calm. Be perfect.
Entering the monster's liege, she adjusted the tie one last time to make the noose let go, at least for a moment. She knew it was worth trying, even with poor results. Complete failure was never an option.
With uncertain and cautious steps, she glided deeper into the darkness. The smell of cigarettes and expensive alcohol irritated her nostrils and her face bent in an unnatural grimace. And although she herself sometimes did not shy away from alcohol, today it seemed extremely irritating. After all, spoiled brats are allowed everything, which disgusted Bea at the very thought.
After making her way through the dark corridor, a bright light flashed across her eyes, like passing through a magical portal, where a completely different world awaited her on the other side. The smell of alcohol intensified as the ballroom appeared to her eyes, bursting at the seams with an overwhelming amount of people. Most of them complete strangers to her, they were carelessly prancing to the beat of simple, primitive music, feeling none of the dangers of adulthood.
"Bea Hughes!" she heard a drunken yell behind her and let the air out of her lungs loudly.
Zoey Wade, her closest and pretty much the only friend she had spoken to in her school days. The complete opposite of her, a complete lack of perfection. Still, Bea felt a strong attraction to her, a need for adrenaline that her friend's behavior always satisfied. In her younger days an unknowable curiosity, today it is familiar and damned by every possible layer of society.
"Zoey Wade," she replied with an undisguised wince. This girl continued to be a harbinger of trouble. The brunette tilted her head gently to the side to carefully examine the silhouette hiding behind her friend.
A young girl with a radiant smile caught her eye. Her hair glinted like gold every now and then, shimmering in waves of colored lights. Bea thrust her hands into her pockets and shamelessly fed off the sight of this beautiful creature. Low and petite in stature, completely vulnerable and innocent.
Perfect.
"Who is this beauty you brought yourself?", she asked nonchalantly, directing her gaze back to her friend's eyes. Zoey cringed, and her eyes popped wide open. The brunette was taken aback by this reaction and shifted nervously from foot to foot.
"Are you talking about my cousin Poppy?", her friend's eyes flashed in semi-darkness as she corrected her posture after that unfavorable reaction.
Bea's lips tightened into a straight line, and soft wrinkles appeared on her face as she became lost in her thoughts. She thought back to the carefree days when she and Zoey would play in the backyard together, paying no attention to the different level of social classes they came from. It was not easy for a simple girl to play with the mayor's daughter. The black-haired girl adored Bea so much that her parents allowed them to hang out, but they made no secret of their disgust with the lower class, reminding her at every turn that she was beneath them.
Finally, one day the cup overflowed and Bea decided to take revenge for all the mental harm done to her. She took away their perfection. After that incident, she was no longer the same carefree person. She closed herself off and put on a stone mask, becoming a merciless jerk.
"If it was your cousin, I would remember. Believe me", she shrugged her shoulders. Her hungry gaze, once again, returned to the blonde, who was dancing with some boy just as she once had, free of her demons. Her movements innocent, made the blood boil in Bea's veins. She licked her parched lips with the tip of her tongue and struggled to swallow the growing lump in her throat.
"She didn't live near us. She's been in New York most of her life because her parents didn't want a simple life for her," she paused for a moment to wet her tongue in the percent golden liquid. "She's a lawyer."
"And everyone's favorite," Bea's throat went dry as she heard the angelic voice of young Sinclair gracelessly slung over her cousin's shoulder. The strong floral scent of her perfume, beat down the bitter stench of sweat and alcohol. The brunette's chest tightened, unable to rise or fall any further.
Get a grip on yourself.
„We don't know each other yet”, she flashed her an overly sweet smile. „Poppy Min Sinclair, lawyer, cousin to that dolt and future Mrs. Jackson.”
Bea lowered her gaze to the small and delicate hand with perfectly filed and painted nails that was extended toward her. She reciprocated the grip and when her thumb wrapped around the top of the blonde's hand, she froze. Her gaze traveled from her tiny, long fingers to the milky white skin of her exposed arms.
Adrenaline.
She needed it.
No.
She needed her.
And she always got what she wanted.
***
After several hours of constant talking and faking any interest, Bea stopped for a short break at the snack table. The atmosphere was so artificial that, for a brief moment, she even felt like she fit into this environment. As if no one there was judging her. How naive that trajectory of thinking was.
It was time for the worst part of the show: the dancing. She preferred to dance with men, although even this was not without a few indiscreet whispers. Because how is it possible for a woman and a man to dance both in a suit. It was so imperfect. Moments passed and so did the partners. Bea felt tired of listening to the stories of everyone she danced with. The most she could think of right now was to sit in her favorite chair with a glass of scotch. That was her wish until someone tapped her gently on the shoulder.
"Hey stranger, care to dance?", the wide smile on Poppy's face softened her heart, not even allowing her to refuse. As a police officer she stuck to the rules, but for this girl she was able to break them.
She returned the smile and found them a free spot on the dance floor. She felt soft hands wrap around her neck and the girl's forehead fell against her chest. Surprised by this closeness, she uncertainly placed her hands on her slender waist, but without moving closer so that their bodies were at a relatively safe distance.
"You intrigue me", she whispered innocently, swaying lazily to the beat of the music. Bea's throat became dry and before she could get anything out, the girl continued. "You show up here in the middle, trying to sit in the dark, and you look quite unhappy", boldness in her words earned her some respect from the brunette. "You seem to be completely different from everyone else here. Why?", Poppy lifted her head and found Bea's mysteriously gleaming eyes in the semi-darkness.
If the blonde had only known why Bea didn't belong here, she would have fled in terror like everyone else. Poppy was a lawyer, a fiancée, her life must have been so perfect she surely never experienced a blemish on her porcelain skin. Skin whose emanating warmth she could feel with every scrap of her taut body.
"So it seems", she replied indifferently, shoving all incorrect thoughts to the back of her mind. "Is it appropriate for you, the lawyer and future Mrs. Jackson, to maintain such closeness with a stranger?", she changed the subject turning the attention away from herself
She watched carefully as the girl's face changed expression, and only for a moment did she feel the need to close the distance and seal her lips in a kiss.
"I...", Poppy was about to say something, but she stopped at the beginning of her sentence. Any trace of a smile disappeared from her face. "I have to go now.", she said mysteriously, sounding like a completely different person, which drew interest from the brunette. She stood on her toes and innocently brushed her lips against the other girl's cheek, stopping near her ear. "Come tomorrow with my cousin to the wedding dress salon for my fitting. The more the better."
Bea nodded, watching the blonde's silhouette disappear among the rest of the dancing partygoers. Automatically her hand went to the place where Poppy's mouth had been and she sighed heavily.
This couldn't end well.

“Here is where you will be staying indefinitely. You have an hour before your etiquette lessons start. They will be held in the library on the first floor at exactly 10 o’clock. Please do get settled; your uniforms are hanging in your wardrobe. You are expected to wear them every day unless told otherwise,” Olive opened the door. I gave her my thanks for showing me around, and she took her leave. Once she was gone, I stepped into my new room.
It was better than I’d expected, honestly. I had assumed I’d receive a bed and wardrobe, and while the room did have those essentials, it certainly wasn’t limited to them. There was a dark wooden desk in the right corner; a matching wardrobe leaned against the wall next to it. The room was lit up by two glass doors leading to a balcony. I instinctively took a step towards them and found myself standing on a cream-colored rug. It was perfectly circular and looked very expensive. I hastily shuffled off of it, not wanting my dirty shoes to taint its color.
I proceeded to the balcony. There were two pots of blue flowers in each corner, as well as a bench sat in between both doors. Despite my aching feet, I found myself at the railing, clutching it firmly. I ignored the discomfort of the chilly autumn air nipped at my skin. From where I stood, I could see rooftops and people moving through the city, albeit they did look like dots from this height. I tried to look past the walls, tried to see home. Of course, all I could see were fuzzy blobs vaguely resembling trees. I couldn’t help but think of Jasper. God, I hope he’s okay. I wonder if he’ll be upset with me when I come back.
Reluctantly, I shoved Jasper from my mind and retreated into my bedroom, kicking off my shoes as I sauntered over to my wardrobe. Upon first glance, I could tell it was handcrafted. However, it had undeniably seen better days. The wood was chipped in numerous places, and one of the knobs was dangerously loose. I gingerly opened its doors to reveal several white dresses. I pulled one out and held it up to my chest; it looked as if it’d fit me well. I stood in front of the vanity adjacent to the wardrobe to examine it further. The dress was quite simple, just a flowy frock paired with a dark blue corset and green apron.
I made sure my door was locked and got undressed. I then slipped into the corset and attempted to tie it on my own. I thought I had done quite well, but when I examined myself in the mirror, my eyes widened at the sight. The ribbons were twisted, wonky, and overall atrocious, barely acceptable. Yet, it was the best I could manage. I had never been a fan of the restricting garment.
I went back to the wardrobe to hang up Ginny’s dress when I was dressed. Upon getting close to the closet, my eye caught sight of a loose panel in the back of it. Quickly, I pushed the dresses to the side to get a better look. “Huh,” I mused aloud. The board had a slight bend in the corner of it as though it had been forcefully yanked from its place on more than one occasion. Curiosity got the better of me, and I reached out my fingers and grasped the corner, testing the waters, seeing how much it would give. Surprisingly, it resisted my gentle tug. Although this should’ve deterred me, I was too interested now. I planted my foot firmly in front of me, bent my knees, and yanked on the panel. It remained stuck. I tried again; this time, it gave way so easily that I toppled over onto my back with a loud thud.
“Fucking hell,” I muttered under my breath, examining the board in my hand. Then I looked up from the ground; my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw it. Behind the panel was a tight crawl space. I hastily got to my feet and leaned my face towards it. Cold air fanned over my face, carrying the smell of dirt and dust particles with it. I reeled back, coughing violently. “What on Earth…”
It looked as if the channel had no end. It was fully dark, but my room's light highlighted all the numerous cobwebs covering the walls. Hesitantly, I stuck my hand inside it, feeling the rough stone walls as I did. Where could this possibly lead? Surely, it’s not a secret passageway. There’s no way Ron was right... Fuck, what if he was? I pulled my head out of the wardrobe and scanned my room for a clock, locating one on my bedside table. I picked it up and looked at the time: 9:30. My eyes drifted back to the wardrobe, then to the forgotten panel on the floor. Fuck it. I hiked up my dress and clambered into the closet. Yet, once I got inside, my feet hesitated as I faced the dark abyss.
My heart pounded in my chest. This could lead anywhere. If I was lucky, it could lead home. Yet, I had no way of knowing how long it was, whether or not it was safe, if I’d be able to turn back. Tick, tick, tick. The unmistakable sound of time passing reminded me I had a mere thirty minutes to spare. I decided to go through with my decision, putting my head down and crawling into the hole. It was only when I got my entire body inside that I realized how truly tiny it was. The floor of it felt unpleasant against my exposed elbows, and I could feel fear beginning to set it, but I was in too deep now; I had to keep going.
I trudged forward and, at some points, dragged my body through the crawlspace. It wasn’t getting any brighter, and the cobwebs were only getting thicker. Nevertheless, I kept going until my hand reached forward, only to find that the floor had, inexplicably, ended. My heart stopped, and I quickly curled my toes and pulled my body backward, away from the edge. Once I had calmed my pulse, I picked my hand up and felt around. My fingers found the ledge, as well as a wall beneath it. Wondering if there was anything else, I extended my arm downwards. As I did this, my hand brushed up against something firm. Hastily, I curled my fingers around it. It seemed to be a wooden pole of sorts. Upon further exploration, I discovered I was touching a ladder. Excitement stirred within me, and I reached upwards, trying to find the ceiling. I waved it around wildly in the dark; I couldn’t feel anything but air.
Time was still ticking, so I extended my arm backward and latched my fingers around the edge of the crawlspace’s ceiling. Then, with wobbly legs, I got to my feet and stood up. “Okay,” I breathed a sigh of relief. Slowly, I turned myself around and lowered my right foot. It found the first rung of the ladder, then my left found the second. I climbed down it until my feet met the floor. An echo sounded when they did, and I whipped my body around, startled. I couldn’t see anything, I couldn’t hear anything, but the scent of mildew and mud was unmistakable. However, my curiosity was only growing, and after a few moments of standing with my back against the wall, it overpowered my fear. Tentatively, I stepped forwards and stuck out my hands.
As I moved them around, my left pinky finger came in contact with something sturdy; another wall. I ran my hand up, down, and across it in every way I could manage. Just as I was going to try the opposite wall, my hand hit something cold. I yanked away with a gasp but then reached out again; this time, I felt something smooth. As I ran my fingers up, I felt little bumps and then a rough stick. I pinched my fingers onto it and felt some sort of crust smear onto them. Puzzled, I brought my hand to my nose and sniffed. Ash. It smelled of ash. This was a candlestick, I realized. My heart leaped; this meant I could return with a flint striker to light the tunnel. That’s just what I’d do, I’d return, but at that moment, I knew I had very little time left. I went to the ladder and crawled back through the hole, this time with light shining from the end of it.
Once in my bedroom, I picked up the panel and jammed it back into place. Then I pulled the dresses over it to hide it and shut the doors of my wardrobe, letting my hands rest upon it as I caught my breath. So many emotions were running through me, confusion, exhilaration, shock, but then my eyes found the clock. 9:50.
“Shit!” I cursed as I started for the door. However, as I was taking my leave, I caught sight of my reflection in the vanity mirror. It showed a dirty woman, her hair covered in spiderwebs, definitely not someone who could roam the castle halls. Frantically, I rushed back to the closet and took out a new dress. There was no way I could show up to lessons looking like how I did. As fast as I could without tearing it, I disrobed my soiled uniform and tossed it into the basket beside the wardrobe. I then donned the new, clean dress and jerked open my vanity drawer. I spotted a hairbrush and frantically ran it through my tangled hair, ridding it of any debris. Once it was clean, I twirled it into a bun and pinned it.
After a final once-over in the mirror, I deemed my appearance acceptable, slipped on my shoes, and fled my room. Since Olive had already given me a tour of the castle, I knew the library was located at the back of the palace. My feet carried me down the hallway and down the staircase. I was nearly running, terrified of being late. Upon turning a left corner, my body ran into something firm. “Oh!” I yelped.
“Watch where you’re going,” a familiar voice hissed. I looked up to find the prince glaring down at me, a scowl etched upon his face.
“I apologize, Your Highness. It won’t happen again,” I told him while bowing my head.
“It better not,” he spat. I nodded curtly and took a step forwards, aiming to walk around him and continue down the hall. As I was passing him, a hand abruptly and firmly grabbed my wrist. Without hesitating, I wrenched myself from his grasp and took several steps backward, my heart speeding up. Draco stared at me bewilderedly, his hand still hanging in the air. Obviously, he was wondering why I’d reacted in such a way. His eyes were narrowed, but even from the distance I had put between us, I could see the confusion in them. Curiously enough, despite emotion being at the forefront, the look of vacancy from that morning was still there, buried beneath it all.
Before I was able to properly calm down and further study him, he snapped out of it, lowering his arm and clearing his throat. “When you’re done with your training, stop by my study. We have things to discuss,” he instructed me. I nodded, watching as he side-stepped away from me and continued on his path, wherever it may be to. As my heart began to slow down, my eyes drifted to a nearby clock. 9:58. “Motherfucker!” I whisper-yelled, then broke into a sprint that carried me all the way to the library doors.
When I entered, a tall, grey-haired woman peered at me through her oval-shaped glasses. I swiftly straightened my posture, suddenly aware of my disheveled appearance. She carried herself with elegance and maturity; I could practically feel her judgment from where I stood.
“Y/N, I presume?” I nodded. “Next time, arrive early. You will address me as Lady McGonagall, understood?” she asked. Her voice was high pitched and steady. This woman wasn’t one to fool with.
“Yes, Lady McGonagall,” I replied. A smile formed on her lips.
“Excellent, let’s get started.”
--------
I closed my door behind me, finally inside my room. Exhausted, I let myself sink to the floor. Mother of God, had my first lesson been rigorous. McGonagall had high expectations, to say the least. She berated me the entire class.
“Spine straight, chin up, shoulders back.” I must have heard that phrase nearly twenty times. When I made the decision to try for this position, I had no idea it would be this exhausting. I couldn’t help but wonder if my mother had gone through the same thing. She hadn’t worked for a member of the Royal Family, of course, but being a maid for Lord and Lady Greengrass surely meant she had to learn proper etiquette. If only she could see me now. What would she say? What would she think? I like to think she’d be proud of me for getting off my ass. The thought of it made me laugh.
I picked myself up and walked over to the balcony. I knew this would quickly become my favorite spot. I knew Jasper would love it. The thought of him made my heart squeeze. I’d only been gone eight hours and I missed him terribly. However, I suppose it made sense that I was feeling this way; I’d never been gone from him this long. Releasing a sigh, I rested my head on my arms that were propped up on the railing. I can’t be thinking like this. I’m here for a reason; I’m here for Jasper.
Reluctantly, I went back inside and began cleaning myself up in my mirror. I already stopped by the kitchen after my lesson to get a small snack, so the only things left on my agenda was my meeting with the prince and dinner. McGonagall told me I’m on waitress duty for tonight’s dinner. This meant I’d be one of two servants present in the dining room. I’d only be able to eat once the Royal Family was finished.
I deemed myself presentable and once again headed out of my room. The North Wing of the castle housed all the family’s private quarters, so I made my way there. I was unsure of where exactly Draco’s study may be, but I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.
When I reached the correct corridor, I slowed my pace, examining each door as I went. Some had signs hanging over them, but others remained unmarked. None were open. Well, I’m not going to find it by standing here, I thought. I went down the hallway, knocking on every door and trying the handle. One after the other, locked, locked, locked. My hand was hovering over the final door when I was startled by a soft “ahem.”
I whipped my head to the left to find Draco standing in the middle of the corridor. The look on his face made my stomach churn; he didn’t look pleased. He strutted towards me, fists clenched and chest puffed out. His stance reminded me of Jasper when he was trying not to throw a fit. Was the prince about to have one?
“Rule number one, don’t attempt to get into rooms you haven’t specifically been instructed to enter,” he spat as he reached for the doorknob in front of me. The door swung open easily, and he gestured for me to go inside.
“But, Your Highness, you told me to go to your study, how was I supposed to-” He held up his hand, silencing me.
“Go inside, don’t make me repeat myself,” he ordered. I did as he asked and stepped into his study. The curtains were drawn shut, making the room extremely dark. I watched Draco walk over to a desk, presumably his, and open one of the drawers. He pulled out an object. I couldn’t quite make out what it was. It made a clinking noise as he held it in his hand. The light from the hallway illuminated the room just enough for me to see Draco approach a wall-mounted candle holder, and sparks emerge from his hands. The tinder took flame, and from its light, I could see the object in his hands were actually two—a flint striker paired with a piece of steel.
He used the tinder to light the candle, then used that to light the others until every last one was lit. The study was now easier to examine. A large mahogany desk sat in the center of the room. To the left of it were green sofas and tall bookshelves, packed to the brim with various novels. To the right, a round table surrounded by dark green armchairs. A vase of white, wilting flowers sat in the center of it. It seemed as though Draco had noticed me staring at them, my feet subconsciously drawing me nearer to them.
“That’ll be a job of yours, replacing those flowers. They’re appealing at every stage of their short life, but the stench of rotting sweet pea is not one I find to be very pleasant.”
I turned my body towards him. He was standing by his desk, hand resting on the edge of it. Neither of us said a word; we simply looked at one another. He was trying to figure me out. I was doing the same. Suddenly, he seemed to come to his senses and broke eye contact.
“Shall we sit? Perhaps you should grab parchment and a quill? To take notes of what will be expected of you,” he suggested, placing the flint, steel, and tinder back into its case on his desk and reaching for a piece of parchment. My hands found each other behind my back, and I walked right past his desk and straight towards the sofas. I could feel his eyes on me as I took a seat.
“I’ll remember, Your Highness,” I told him, my voice soft. He raised an eyebrow, doubting me.
“Are you sure? Maybe you should just-”
“I said, I’ll remember.” My words seemed to anger Draco, but he said nothing. Instead, he took a seat on the emerald couch across from me, his eyes still searching. I wondered what they were hoping to find. If it was obedience, submission, he wouldn’t find it in me. Yet, I think he understood that when we met. I think it’s why he chose me.
“Very well. I assume Lady McGonagall has already informed you of many of your duties. Such as weekly tidying of my bedroom-”
“Your study, the kitchens, the guest rooms, the sitting rooms…” I trailed off as I saw Draco give me an unamused look. Nevertheless, he nodded and cleared his throat.
“It seems you do remember well. Good, so you know your chores. Now I can go over my personal rules for you. We’ll start with this room,” he said while gesturing around the room. “I spend the majority of my days in here, thus it gets messy quite quickly. While you must clean it, you shall never clean my desk. I don’t care if its entirety is covered in parchment and books; they are not to be touched. Neither are the drawers.”
My eyes followed his fingers as they pointed towards his desk. The flint striker shined with the light from a nearby candle. It was calling my name, but patience was going to be the key to snagging it, so I turned back to the prince as he stood up from the couch. He walked towards a series of display shelves. Numerous peculiar items sat atop it. The one that caught my eye the most was a small glass ball with a golden ring around its middle.
“None of these items are to be touched under any circumstances, understood?” he asked. His voice had turned dark. Seems as though these objects held quite the meaning.
“What if one of them is about to fall onto the floor?” I asked, purposefully trying to irritate him, just to see how far I could push him. He pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance but did inform me that should an item be falling to its doom, I could catch it.
Draco continued going around the room and telling me what I could and could not mess with. Some of these things seemed completely arbitrary, like the crooked picture frame above an end table. Others made sense, like the ring on display. According to Draco, it had been passed down through eight generations.
Once Draco finished going around his study, he headed to the door, ready to lead me to his bedroom. Before joining him, I walked by his desk and pretended to look at the portrait to my left. It was of the prince and his father. Draco saw this, and instinctively followed my gaze; it was all I needed. My fingers swiped the flint and steel case right off his desk and slid it into my apron pocket. When his eyes returned to me, confusion evident on his face, I was already heading towards him. He said absolutely nothing about the now missing item. What a shame, he really had been just angry this morning.
As we entered the bedroom, I felt my eyes begin to widen. His room was magnificent. Not only did he have a dark green canopy bed, but he also had couches, a fireplace, a floor-length mirror next to his enormous wardrobe, and another desk. I noticed from the open door that it even had a washroom of its own. I must not have hidden my surprise well enough because I heard a soft chuckle beside me.
“Biggest bedroom in the palace,” Draco gloated, his hand on his hip. I disregarded him and instead began walking to the windows. When I got to them, I peered out to see a relatively big fenced-in field. There looked to be some stables in one corner. Do they have horses?, I wondered. Unable to quell my excitement, I turned to Draco to ask but stopped short when I found him giving me a hard stare.
“Do you have no manners at all? You cannot just wander around my bedroom as if it is your own! I’ve been tolerating your nonsense only because it’s your first day, but one more foolish act of disrespect, and you’re gone, understood?” he lashed out, his teeth barred and chest heaving. I gave him no reply, only watching as he seethed with anger. However, that soon got boring, so I turned my head back to the window. His little tantrum didn’t phase me one bit; I knew his words were empty threats.
“Do you have horses?” I asked, breaking the silence and meeting Draco’s eyes again. His eyebrows were knitted together, and his nose was scrunched.
“Seriously? You’re not going to acknowledge what I just said?” he questioned, his anger still strong. I said nothing, my eyes blinking at him with false innocence. He stared at me, waiting. When he realized I wasn’t going to back down, he threw up his hand halfheartedly. “Yes, of course, we have horses. What kind of a question is that?” he berated me. “Whatever, just sit down, and I’ll show you what else you’re forbidden to touch.” I decided enough was enough, and I did as I was told, taking a seat in one of the nearby chairs.
As Draco roamed about his room, I couldn’t help but let my eye be drawn away from him again. This time, it wasn’t the window that interested me. It was the sword hanging above his nightstand. The handle of it looked to be made of jade stone. It had silver snakes curled around it, hovering, almost. At the base of the blade was a dark, black gem. Not until Draco waved his hand in front of my face was my gaze torn from it.
“Forgive me, Your Highness,” I apologized. However, the prince didn’t look upset. He smirked at me as he walked over to the sword and gently lifted it from its shelf. His right hand gripped the handle as he began lightly swishing the blade through the air. I watched, mesmerized as he handled the weapon with ease. I’d be lying to myself if I said it wasn’t attractive. There’s something inherently captivating about a man who’s good with his hands.
Without warning, Draco twirled the sword around then upwards towards the ceiling before slowly bringing it down until the tip of the blade was nearly grazing my nose. My heart pounded in my chest, but not from fear.
“Do you know how to use one?” he asked. I shook my head. Of course, I didn’t know how to swordfight. “Didn’t think so,” he replied, lowering the blade from my face.
“Why do you ask, Your Highness?” Draco didn’t answer. He seemed to be in deep thought. Surely he wasn’t thinking what I was thinking.
The prince toyed with the sword for a moment before looking at me and asking, “Would you like to learn?” His expression remained blank as he stared at the floor. He was nervous.
“Why would I? And why would you want to teach me?” I asked him. There was no point in beating around the bush. Draco shrugged his shoulders and glanced up at me briefly before breaking eye contact again.
“Protection,” he stated as if it were obvious. “Sure, you can wash my bedsheets and clean my room, but knowing that I can have you as some sort of secret weapon, should anything ever happen, is good insurance.”
He wasn’t wrong, I suppose. Teaching me to fight would be a good thing to have in his back pocket. If anything were to happen, like a neighboring kingdom attacking Sithrawl, not one member of their army would consider me a threat. Furthermore, not many get the chance to learn the art of wielding such a dangerous item. I’d be stupid to deny his offer. I pushed myself up from the chair and clasped my hands together.
“I accept your offer, Your Highness,” I said confidently. There was a mocking undertone, but of course, Draco didn’t pick up on it. Him and his big head.
“Wonderful. We shall meet in the dungeons every Friday at, let’s say, nine o’clock.”
“In the morning?”
“Evening,” Draco specified. I nodded but went on to ask another question.
“May I ask why the dungeons? That seems like an odd place. Surely a ballroom would be better suited?”
“Well, if you’re to be a secret weapon, we can’t exactly have you swinging a sword around in one of the main rooms of the castle now, can we?” Draco smiled, waving his sword back and forth as he spoke. I didn’t like how cocky he was with that thing in his grasp.
“Of course, you’re right.” A moment of silence passed. Draco continued playing with his sword while staring at me, his eyes cloudy. “Am I dismissed, Your Highness?” I spat out, eager to leave the tension-filled room. Draco nodded and gestured to the door. I bowed slightly, showing my thanks.
As I was reaching for the handle, Draco cleared his throat behind me. I spun around to face him, wondering if he was going to change his mind. Maybe there was something else he wanted to go over. However, his next words surprised me.
“Forgive me. It’s just occurred to me that I haven’t asked for your name.”
I felt my eyebrows raise and the corners of my mouth lift, despite my best efforts to retain a straight face. You shouldn’t be blushing because he’s doing the bare minimum of asking your name, I chastised myself. Truly, Draco had been nothing but a spoiled brat since I met him this morning; however, there was something about him that drew me in. He just seemed so intriguing, so puzzling. I wanted to figure this man out.
“Y/N. Y/N Y/L/N.”
“Well, Y/N,” Draco started. He then took a few steps towards me, swinging his sword. He seemed to like fidgeting with it. “I will see you at dinner.”
I swallowed. He had gotten close enough that I was able to smell his perfume. Despite the sword in his grasp, I looked up at him. Once again, a staring contest arose. This one didn’t last long, though. “Until then, Your Highness,” I said softly. Then I pulled the door open and hurried out, not bothering to look back and see if Draco was staring. I didn’t have to. I could feel his eyes on me.

Far From the Shallow Now
Synopsis: Caroline needs to get her head on straight after the ball and is still awake when Klaus drops by.

A tiny pieces would be part of the random snippet series. Just a bit of a what if Caroline had been up when Klaus dropped off the drawing. You can read it here on A03 if you prefer.
                                                       -
The kitchen smelled like her childhood. Warm brown sugar and melting chocolate, the memory of afternoons spent baking with her dad were precious moments that still ached. Pre-vampire Caroline has really hated cooking, and she’d found her opinion hadn’t changed much over the past few months. But baking? With its necessary precision and attention to detail, even the most finicky of recipes soothed her. It had been her dad that had first put a wooden spoon in her hand, who had sighed at her scrunched nose and red face and smoothed her bangs.
“Come on, Care Bear. Let’s try a new recipe today. I’ll let you pick.”
But those memories had been filled with afternoon sunshine and the blare of a radio, and they had been a long time ago. Long before the silence between her parents had grown cold and Bill’s business trips had taken longer and longer. Her childhood was bittersweet and it clogged her throat to think of all the things she’d lost.
But that was for another night.
Tonight, all she had was the silence of her home and the shadows of the neighborhood around her. With her mom working the graveyard shift, she had the house to herself. It had been a relief to come home to shadows and silence after the noise and color of the ball. A chance to process and detox, push away the memory of Klaus’ hands on her skin, the boyish, curling smile on his face and the anger as she’d walked away from him. Breath shuddering in her throat, she stirred the cookie dough a little more thoroughly.
A little pre-baking cleaning had helped calm her juggling nerves and here she was, getting worked up again. The fridge was stuffed with sympathy casseroles, and she’d thrown out dozens of wilting flower arrangements. The cards were neatly stacked and organized in piles alphabetically and according to whom she still needed to reply to.
Her mom probably wouldn’t even notice.
Tomorrow’s project would involve freezing what was left of the food that her mom would eat, she’d already packed the leftovers into Tupperware so she could return the pans to her neighbors. But her dad had taught her to never return a dish empty, so at least her midnight baking would have a purpose. Absently licking at a smear of cookie dough, Caroline watched the clock on the oven click over past 3 AM, and mentally counted her blood bags. She’d need an extra tomorrow, to offset her lack of sleep, but her mind couldn’t stop spinning.
Is it so hard to believe I fancy you?
She’d showered as soon as she’d gotten home, needing to remove Klaus’ lingering scent from her skin. She scrubbed herself pink with her favorite soap, and stood in the shower far longer than needed. The dress was already folded and packed in the box it had arrived in, her bra and underwear at the bottom of her dirty clothes hamper. Now she was sitting in her kitchen in old cheer sweats, and surrounded by two dozen cookies while she worked on the next batch.
And nothing had managed to stop the wheels spinning in her head.
Running a hand down her face, Caroline tried again to decide how she felt about the fiasco that had been her night. The dancing, the hunger and lust in his gaze, those falsely boyish smiles and the rage that had burned when she’d flung his diamonds back at his face.
Klaus had meant every word he’d said and none of it. That was the game he played. Perfection and coercion, falsely sweet words that clung like poisoned honey. It’d been easier to push aside her curiosity, that niggling fascination for how his brain worked before he’d turned his gaze towards her.
Klaus was a monster. But he was a smart one, always steps and steps ahead of his enemies. She didn’t want him, she needed to not want him, and she was pretty sure he didn’t want her either, and it stiffened her shoulders to think he saw her as the distraction Damon insisted she play or his very own potential Trojan horse.
She would never betray her friends.
But Caroline didn’t want to die.
Eyes closing at the thought, she took a careful breath. The games Damon played were dangerous. Esther, Bonnie, all his siblings were spinning on a course that could only lead to collateral damage, and she was sick of it.
Tyler too sometimes only saw her as useful. Her dad had died helping him and still the last time they’d talked he’d wanted her to play more games. As if she wasn’t drowning in grief and what if’s, as if her world hadn’t been twisted as violently as his, as if she wasn’t trapped in a spiderweb she had no idea how to escape. Her fingers tightened on the wooden spoon, and she exhaled slowly.
She and Tyler hadn’t chosen what had been done to them but they could choose how they responded and she was starting to feel less and less comfortable about the bitterness he carried. The hard edge of rage. Whatever had happened when he left and found Hayley had sharpened parts of Tyler she hadn’t known were there and she wondered what he saw when he looked at her. If what he saw made him as uncomfortable as it made her.
Lips flattening at the thought, she reached for the bag of chocolate chips and froze at the sounds of her front door opening. Eyes snapping up, body going taut at the potential threat, her stomach knotted at the sight of Klaus stepping into her home.
For a long moment, they just studied each other.
In the hours since she’d left the ball, he’d ditched his jacket and bow tie, his white waistcoat nowhere to be found. His hair was no longer so perfectly arranged, he’d rolled his shirt sleeves to bare his forearms, and if that wasn’t enough to spike her blood pressure, he still wore his suspenders. Hidden behind the counter-top, her nails dug reflexively into her palm. He’d been stupidly good looking earlier at the ball with his sly smiles and dimpled promises, but this? Rumpled, lips bitten red, his gaze dragging along her body with a slow perusal that set her nerves of fire was something else entirely.
Klaus smiled slow, cheeks creasing, all of the anger from before tucked beneath charm and guile. “I’m surprised you’re still awake, love.”
“Your family is exhausting,” she agreed tartly, straightening her spine. “But of the two of us, I’m the only or who is expected to be here at all. Kind of rude, just bargaining in, don’t you think?”
He gave an elegant little shrug and strolled closer. Her jaw flexed, and he reached into his pocket, pulling out a velvet box and setting it on an empty space on the counter. “I do have an invitation. And perhaps it is also just as rude, don’t you think, to return gifts?”
Shoving the wooden spoon back into the cookie dough before she was tempted to smack him with it, Caroline settled a hand on her hip and faked her bravado. “It’s way ruder to offer gifts with so many strings in the first place.”
An amused glance from beneath his lashes before he peered at her cooling racks of cookies. “Most women enjoy apology jewelry.”
“I must have missed the apology.”
One dimple peaked high on his smile and he snagged a cookie. “I didn’t realize you baked.”
She narrowed her eyes as he took a bite, his clear dodge. This entire conversation felt surreal, a little bit domestic, and a lot concerning. Wasn’t she just thinking about how dangerous he was? This, this charm, only highlighted that danger. He slipped so easily from mood to mood, as mercurial as the wind and she needed to remember that.
Promises or no.
“It’s not like we really exchange small talk. And that’s the only cookie you get. I have a dozen dishes to fill and I need this done before mom gets home.” She tipped her chin towards the dining room table where the clean dishes and tinfoil were waiting for her. She was willing to bet he'd already noted the dishes, but so what. “So why don't you get to your point and leave?”
Klaus made a thoughtful noise as he finished the cooking, dusting his hands of crumbs. “Need help?”
“From you? Absolutely not.” The words slipped out before she could catch him and find something politer to say. This was her grief, her method of coping. He didn't get an opinion and he didn't get to pretend they were friends. Not when he wold kill all of them if he thought it necessary. This? This mess and this grief and this small thing to help her mom was hers.
The smile died on his face but she didn’t flinch. She didn't know what he read on his face, but his head tipped in a silent acknowledgement. Instead of baiting her more, his hand returned to his pocket, and this time he produced a rolled up piece of parchment.
Caroline looked at it warily. “What is that?”
“Part of the apology,” he murmured as he set it delicately on top of the box holding the diamonds. “The bracelet is yours love, no strings. Do with it what you will. As for the rest.” He paused, blue eyes narrowed as he studied her, a hint of gold burning the edges of his iris. “The games my mother plays are not kind to her pawns. Be sure you don’t find yourself in over your head, Caroline.”
She lifted her chin to hide her tremble. “Threats?”
“Call it a warning.” Klaus said. “Likely the only one you’ll get.” Just as quickly, that sense of danger melted under another smile and he snagged a second cookie before turning and sauntering away at her protest.She slid her tongue between her teeth at the sight of just how well his pants were tailored and the way the suspenders highlighted the length of his back. The image was going to be burned behind her eyes for days.
As if he could sense her gaze dragging down his spine, he cast one more boyish smile at her as he opened her door. “The cookies were delicious, love. I do so look forward to learning what other secrets you're keeping.”
She watched him go, barely breathing, a mix of alarm and arousal mixing with adrenaline. So many layers. The hidden threat in his words, the reminder that he could walk into her home whenever he wished. The return of the bracelet, that little bit of claim he’d laid on her life.
An apology.
Swallowing, she wiped her shaking hands on her sweats and reached for the parchment. It unrolled to show the familiar lines of her face and the perfect image of a horse.
Thank you for your honesty.
Swallowing, she set the drawing down and didn’t know what to think.

Unbidden - Epilogue 3
Masterlist | Previous | Next
Content warnings: none, this is fluff city
Morgan was deep in concentration. He was worrying his bottom lip between his teeth as he picked at his hair, untangling it carefully. It was slow going, it seemed, and based on his expression he wasn't having a great time of it. The sudden onslaught of wind and rain had taken both of them by surprise this time, and made an absolute dog's breakfast of his hair.
"It's easier for me to get the snarls out of my hair when I start at the ends and work my way up," Blaise said. "Want some help with that?"
He hummed a vague assent and she took up a position behind him, starting with the part at the back of his head that would be the hardest for him to reach. He didn't seem to mind her touching his hair, generally, and she enjoyed it.
"If you braid it," she suggested after a minute or two, "it might help it keep from getting all knotted up like this."
"I don't know how to do that," came the response after a moment.
"Oh, it's easy! I can do it for you. And maybe teach you, after!" Was it weird to be so excited about this? No, she decided, it wasn't. He knew all sorts of stuff and taught her new things all the time. It wasn't often she got to return the favour.
"All right," Morgan said, and Blaise grinned to herself as she moved on to the next section. It went a lot faster with both of them working on it. Gods, it had been a long time since she'd braided anyone else's hair. Or her own, for that matter. It was faster to just tie it back. But it was the sort of activity you didn't just forget how to do, and she tried not to bounce with excitement once Morgan was ready.
"Here," she reassured him, "I'll keep it nice and loose so it doesn't pull." It went faster than she would have liked, but braiding was one of those things her hands liked to do almost on their own. In only a couple of minutes, Morgan's hair was tamed into a neat plait, secured with a nice little bow in the leather hair tie. "All done," she announced, and peeked around to see his reaction.
He ran careful fingers along the length of it, taking the tail over his shoulder to peer at it in wonder. It suited him, having the hair pulled back from his face. He wasn't traditionally handsome, not by a stretch, but he had a good face with features that were interesting to look at. His eyes were bright and clever, widened now as he examined her handiwork, not squinted as they often were when it was sunny or when he was trying to see something that was a little further away. The lashes framing them were longer than they seemed at first glance, probably because they were white like the rest of his hair, and that made them harder to see. The high lines of his cheekbones were striking without a curtain of hair blocking them off, accentuating the natural sharpness of his other features. She staunchly avoided thinking too long on the tiny white scars that littered the skin of his face irregularly, some on his cheeks, some by his eyes, some by his mouth. They weren't as stark and shocking as the big ones on the rest of him, but they were just as new. And she still hated them. They stood out against the otherwise reasonably smooth texture of his skin. That was a little weird - she'd never seen him shave, but he'd never had facial hair, either.
Oh, fuck, he was looking at her now. He'd said something. She went back over the sounds in her memory, but they didn't resolve into anything like words. Shit. "Sorry, what? I, uh. Started daydreaming. Didn't mean to."
"That's all right. What were you thinking about?"
"Not a lot," she dodged the question. It would definitely be weird to say she was just… enjoying looking at his face. Actually, that wasn't too far off from what he'd said, that first uncomfortable night on their way to Tristram. Maybe it would be fine. "Just taking a good look at you. I like your face. Have you ever grown a beard?" she added quickly as doubt started to settle on his features like a cloud crossing in front of the sun.
"I… no," he said, bringing his hands up to touch his cheeks in a motion that seemed almost like he was trying to hide. "I've never… had facial hair. It doesn't grow."
"I don't think you're missing out on anything," Blaise reassured him, looking up at the ceiling of their temporary shelter just to take her gaze off of him. "It's probably not very comfortable. They sure are scratchy, anyway. I can't imagine having something like that on my face all the time." That mental image took her by surprise, and she laughed aloud. Morgan looked at her questioningly. "I just thought how funny I'd look with a little moustache, like Telash," she explained.
Morgan tilted his head a little. "I think a style like Devak would suit you better," he said, the tiniest hint of a smile playing around the corner of his mouth. Devak had a massive bushy beard that had gone halfway down his chest and tickled unbearably between her thighs. The thought was even more ridiculous than the one she'd come up with, and she laughed so hard it brought tears to her eyes.
Morgan didn't laugh with her, but the smile stole more fully onto his face. He shifted a little to lean up against her shoulder. That was really nice, how comfortable he was getting.
"Thank you for helping me with my hair," he said. "I like it very much." Then, more quietly, "It doesn't bother me, you know. Being ugly. You don't have to pretend like I'm not."
Blaise bit her tongue. You aren't ugly, she wanted to say, but that wasn't going to go over well at all. He was going to think she was lying to him. "I'm not pretending anything," she said instead. "You're interesting to look at. And the only time I've really seen you with your hair back was that one time in Kurast. But if you don't like it, I won't, like, stare or anything."
"I'm used to being stared at," he said. Of course he was. He looked like a kid and an old person at the same time, small and white-haired but not wizened or bent. He wore a hood sometimes, but even then he still stood out.
"And I'm used to sleeping on the ground," she shot back, "but that doesn't mean I like it. You can tell me if you don't like when I do something, Morgan. I need you to tell me, or else I won't know."
"I know. I really don't mind when you look at me. I just… wasn't expecting it. Earlier. When you said you… like my face. I'm not… I don't… one moment," he said, and closed his eyes briefly. Blaise felt a little bit bad about how flustered he seemed to be. Maybe she'd have to take it easier on the compliments, avoid commenting on his appearance if he was going to be so sensitive about it.
"You need me to tell you when I'm uncomfortable," he said after a moment. Blaise nodded. "I need you to tell me things plainly as well. There are a lot of things I don't understand." He paused. "Especially interpersonal things. Like attraction. You… say that sort of thing to your partners, the flattery," he clarified, and it clicked.
"I'm not - no, I'm - all right, okay. I'm not attracted to you," she reassured him, which was one of the weirder things she'd ever had to reassure someone about, but he relaxed noticeably. "And even if I was, I know you aren't interested. I'd never push you into anything."
"I appreciate that, thank you." Morgan looked at his hands, fidgeting a little by pressing his fingertips together. "How do you know?" he asked next, quietly. "When you're attracted to somebody? What does it feel like?"
Blaise considered her response. Morgan was clearly serious about the question. He was always serious, pretty much, although apparently he also knew how to be hilarious and just hadn't been using that skill. It was just a weird thing to ask about, for a man who was probably older than she was. But hey, if this meant another opportunity to teach him something, great.
"I've never really thought about it," she said before the silence could get too long. "I know it when it happens, though. It's kind of like when you're hungry and you smell something really good cooking, and you just want to eat until you're full. Except it's not food you want, it's a person."
Morgan frowned a little, thoughtfully. Blaise had thought it had been a pretty good explanation. "Think about the prettiest person you've ever seen," she tried instead. "Or handsomest, or whatever."
"All right."
"Now, you picked someone, right? That's a kind of attraction, thinking someone looks good."
"I think I'm doing something wrong," he said, brow still furrowed. "I've never felt… hungry… about a person."
"Not even the prettiest one? You didn't want to touch her, or kiss her, or anything?"
"No. I don't like those things. I just wanted… I suppose I just liked to look at him," Morgan said softly, and holy shit, he looked so sad all of a sudden.
"Well, for me," Blaise said, maybe a little too quickly, "it's like an urge. Like an itch where the only way I can scratch it is to be touching the person I'm attracted to. Ideally in, uh, a sexual way." Hopefully this wouldn't be too weird. It felt like it might be getting weird. Why did she always have to make it weird?
"I understand the… mechanism of sex," Morgan said, looking more perplexed than sad now, which was a step in the right direction, "but not the desire. Do you really just look at a person and feel that you want to couple with them?" Blaise tried to keep a straight face. He just sounded so skeptical.
"I mean, I like to get to know them a little first, usually, but basically that's it, yeah. Not everybody feels it the same way, or at all," she added. "Some people get that feeling all the time, like me - you've seen some of my partners, you know I'm not picky. But some people only ever have eyes for one other person. And some just aren't interested at all, and I'm pretty sure that's normal too. The smith by our house was like that, when I was growing up. Never married, never had kids. Didn't want to do much of anything other than work her forge. She was gorgeous, too, could have had her pick. I guess she did, though, in a way."
That last little bit had been calculated to set Morgan at ease. It was interesting to know a little more, but it had been fairly obvious since Lut Gholein that he didn't have the same experiences as she did. After all, he'd been faced with a flock of beautiful, highly skilled courtesans and immediately tried to flee, then set up a deal with one of them to keep the rest away. Blaise tried to observe him without being incredibly obvious. He seemed very deep in thought for a while, and she did her best to let him sit and digest but the urge to move around started to creep under her skin. She freed her hair from its ponytail one-handed and raked her fingers through it.
"Thank you," he said eventually. "For explaining. I think I understand a little better now."
"Any time," Blaise replied, and she meant it. "Now. You ready to learn how to braid?"
"Yes, please."
Blaise moved to give him a good view of the back of her head. "All right. Let's start with the basics, nothing too fancy. You need three sections, like this." She separated her hair simply, starting low on her head like she'd done for him. "Then you just take turns putting the pieces on the sides into the middle. Left, then right. Left, then right. You can cross the pieces over each other or under each other, just so long as it's always the same."
"Oh, that's… could you do it slower?"
"Sure." She raked the braid out of her hair and started again, slowing the movements of her hands so he could see more clearly as she manipulated the sections. There was a lot of flipping of her hands, she realized, and little movements with her fingers she hadn't really been conscious of doing.
"Didn't have any sisters to teach you how to deal with all that hair, huh?" she asked, hardly thinking. Morgan was silent. Shit. Her stupid mouth. He hadn't ever really talked about his family, had he? Probably a touchy subject. Maybe they didn't like that he'd decided to join the Order of Rathma. Couldn't blame them, really. She kind of hated it herself. Time to steer the conversation away a little. "How come you keep it so long, anyway?"
"I don't like having it cut," he said quietly. "It feels better when it's long."
"Oh. That makes sense." It would certainly feel weird for her to have short hair. She listened to the rain beating down outside. It was making her a little sleepy. "Rain's making me kind of sleepy," she said. "Might grab a nap until it lets up." Morgan gave a soft hum, the small little noise he did to let her know he'd heard her but didn't have anything to add. Blaise sat back against the wall of the shelter and raised her arm in invitation. "Come on," she encouraged. "If you want."
He only hesitated a moment before moving in to press against her side. Blaise smiled to herself. This was perfect, finally, not having to worry about making him too uncomfortable with her casual touches. He knew he didn't have to accept it, she'd made sure that was clear. But she was glad he did anyway. He deserved more affection, more comfort. More everything. She let herself drift off in the steady patter of the rain, embracing her closest friend. Yes, this was perfect.

20. [9:40 am]
28A… 29A… Ah, 30A! You thought to yourself as your eyes glanced over the seat numbers slightly above your line of sight, your feet finally coming to a stop beside your reserved seat.
Much to your dismay, it was a window seat, facing in the opposite direction of the train’s movements. It was also one of the few face-to-face seats on the entire KTX train, with a table between the two pairs of seats which were facing each other.
You groaned internally. As much as you liked having a proper surface for writing or doodling in your journal, you didn’t like sharing. You much preferred having your own privacy while glancing out the windows, watching the greenery and the countryside pass by in a colourful blur, with soft tunes to accompany you on your journey. It’s fine, you reminded yourself, trying to stay positive, it’s only two hours, no big deal…
You hauled your backpack over your head and into the overhead compartment with practiced movements. Pulling out your travel necessities, which included your fully-charged phone, a pair of wireless earphones, a large, ice-cold Americano and your trusty journal, you settled into your seat for the rest of the morning. A part of you wished that the seat in front of you wouldn’t be occupied, while another part of you contemplated whether it was better to just try and fall asleep for the remainder of the train ride to Gangneung.
You quickly dismissed the latter thought, as the scenery throughout the train ride was too good to miss. You could deal with a couple of awkward silences and accidental glances with the unlucky stranger who reserved the seat opposite yours. Besides, it was your first time visiting your parents in two months – you weren’t going to let anything sour your mood.
The last-minute trip to Gangneung, your hometown, was planned just two days ago, as you were graciously granted two days of paid leave by your manager. After finally submitting the last tax return for your clients, your manager had treated the entire team to a congratulatory dinner and gave everyone a few days of leave to make up for the never-ending client meetings and late nights spent slaving away at the office desk during the tax busy season. You were overwhelmed with joy once your manager announced the news, pulling her usually stoic self into a tight embrace under the yellow glow of  the pojangmacha, a tent bar selling alcohol and street food, due to the heightened levels of alcohol within your system.
Giggling to yourself at the memory, you reached out for your phone and typed a message to your mother to inform her that you were about to depart Seoul. It was a message that she read and replied immediately with her usual “Be careful, dear, and have a safe journey.”, which you missed dearly during the busy season. On off-periods, you would make the effort to visit your parents once a fortnight. You moved to Seoul for university a few years back and found a job in the bustling city, leaving your parents and the family’s bicycle store behind in the coastal neighbourhood. Sometime in your early twenties, your father experienced a mild health scare and had to close the store during his month-long recovery. This made you realise that as the years went by, your parents were not getting any younger. With that in mind, you tried to clear your hectic schedule to spend as much time with your parents as possible.
“This is the 10:01am number 811 KTX train bound for Gangneung. The train will be departing shortly.”
The familiar female voice flooded the carriages of the train and distracted you from your thoughts. The seat in front of you was still unoccupied. You held on to the tiny glimmer of hope that it would remain that way for the rest of the journey, despite knowing very well that the summer holidays were approaching, turning Gangneung into an ideal weekend getaway for tourists and locals alike. The prospect of spending the next few days basking in the summer sunshine, helping out at the bicycle store and frolicking in the sea excited you to no end. After long hours cooped up in the office, you were looking forward to spending your break in the great outdoors.
“28… 29… 30, 31! Here it is, Mark, 31A and 31B. Dibs the window seat!” A cheerful voice spoke in English, pulling you out of your delightful daydream. Before you could turn your head to face its owner, a bright streak of reflected rainbow dancing across the table caught your eye.
“Okay, Bella,” A deep chuckle originated from the man standing beside your seat. “Wait a sec, pass me your bag, honey.”
Your eyes traced the source of the deep timbre notes of the American-sounding voice. What you found was a man, dressed in an oversized white shirt and black ripped jeans, who was placing the girl’s pink Barbie bag into the overhead compartment. Even though he was wearing a cap, you could make out his cherubic features and the gentle smile he directed towards the girl.
The thought that he was a bit too young to have a daughter crossed your mind for a split second, but you quickly shook it off to return the little girl’s excited smile with a polite wave. She was wearing a cute pink dress and looked to be about six or seven years old. The pair got comfortable in their seats, just as the announcement informed the passengers the doors were closing.
The man sitting diagonally opposite of you took off his cap to reveal a head of blonde hair. He met your gaze, and you watched as a surprised look flashed across his face. As the two of you exchanged polite greetings, you couldn’t shake off the thought that you had seen him somewhere before.
A phone chirped, signalling an incoming call. It was a call for him. He answered it, and you looked out the window to give him some privacy and not seem too nosy. You wracked your brain for answers. Did he work at the café I frequented? Or was it the Chinese restaurant that I ordered takeaways from? No… You mused silently. Maybe he’s the cashier at the convenience store near the apartment… But that doesn’t seem right either. Wait, is he-?
“Bell, your Mummy wants to speak to you.”
“Yes, Mummy! Mark said…”
You drowned out the rest of the conversation to refocus your thinking. You sneaked another glance at the man in question, only to find half of his face covered by his laptop screen as he tapped away furiously. It seems like it’s him… You adjusted your position several times to get a better look at his face without seeming too suspicious. Blonde hair and shiny helix piercing, it must be him.
The person you were referring to was someone you’ve only ever seen from afar. There was usually a safe distance between you two on your morning subway ride to the office, with him leaning casually against a pole and you standing steadily in the middle of the crowd. The closest you’ve been to him was when you were running late, and you happened to share the elevator with a blonde-haired man from the eighth floor of your apartment. He always had the top button of his crisp button-up undone, a tie hanging haphazardly over one shoulder and his headphones sitting snugly atop his blonde head, while munching on a piece of burnt toast. You had never encountered this strange gentleman until mid-May, so you assumed that he had recently moved into the floor below you. The two of you never exchanged words either, as he was always busy shoving down his breakfast, but you would always bow politely to each other. Unbeknownst to him, you were intrigued. Not many office workers were brave enough to sport such a striking hair colour, and you had to admit, it suited him perfectly.
You just never expected him to have a child.
“Mark!” The girl, Bella, whined while grabbing his hand. Your ears were still getting accustomed to hearing English after so long. The last time you were surrounded by native speakers was during your six-month-long secondment to the New York branch of your company. “Do my hair, pretty please! I want two braids.”
The man, Mark, sighed in fake annoyance, playfully poking her cheeks. “Yes, Your Highness. Hand over your other hair tie.” A part of you wasn’t used to how the girl didn’t address him with honorifics, but you busied yourself with your phone, pretending that you weren’t eavesdropping on their conversation.
“I thought you took them for me when we left your house.” She huffed, clearly unsatisfied.
“Nope, I only have one with me.”
Your fingers reached for the simple, black hair tie around your wrist. “Here, you can borrow mine.” Smiling, you handed it over to Bella, who accepted it with a grateful smile.
Mark leaned down to whisper in her ear, unable to hide the surprised smile on his face. “Thank the pretty eonnie in Korean.”
“Thank you, eonnie!” Bella chirped, so excited that she was practically bouncing in her seat.
“You’re most welcome.” You said in perfect English, intrigued at Mark’s earlier interaction with the girl.
He proceeded to divide her hair into two even halves, combing her dark locks with long, thin fingers. Expertly, Mark separated the first half into three parts and began to braid. He stuck out his tongue cutely in concentration, trying his best to not mess up.
“Don’t move so much, Bell.” He scolded lightly when the girl pulled out her colouring book and painted the sky a light shade of blue with large strokes of her coloured pencil.
“You’re pretty good at this. Mark, right?” You commented.
“Yeah, guess it comes with practice. I’m Mark, by the way. We never got to introduce each other properly. Your name is…?”
“Y/N.”
“Ah yes, Y/N. It suits you well. Always so prim and proper in your blazer and kitten heels. I must seem like a fool to you, with my tie undone and all.”
You laughed at his self-deprecating humour. This man is funny, and he can braid hair. His wife sure is a lucky woman, you thought. “No, not at all. Where do you work?”
Light conversation regarding your respective careers ensued. You found out that he was also working at a company close to yours, which explained the frequent encounters on the train. He moved in about a month ago from another side of the city because of his new job. When the conversation about work dwindled, you shifted the topic to the girl.
“How old is she?”
Mark secured the first braid with your hair tie, smiling to himself, satisfied. “Bella, how old are you?”
“I’m six, Mark! How could you forget?” The girl sat up from her position to shoot daggers with her eyes at him.
“I’m sorry, kiddo. Come, turn to the other side so I can finish this up.” He moved her to sit facing the window instead and starting on the second braid. “She’s six,” Mark turned to you and answered with a sheepish expression. Before you started to wonder what kind of father would forget his daughter’s age, he continued, “Bella doesn’t visit very often.”
Your eyebrows quirked upwards in response. Does that mean he was… divorced?
Mark saw your confused expression and hastened to add, “She’s my niece.” You let out a breath that you didn’t even realise you were holding. “My sister and her family came over from LA to visit me.”
It all made sense to you now. “Right…”
“Her parents wanted some alone time so I’m taking her to Gangneung for a day trip cos she wants to visit Jumunjin beach and take some pictures.” He paused, and went on to mouth, “She loves BTS.”
“The bus stop near the beach? The one on their album cover?” You wondered, knowing exactly which photo spot he was referring to. “It’s about a bit of a drive from my parent’s bicycle shop. I took a couple of days off to visit them.”
“You’ve seen the bus stop? That’s so cool!” Bella’s ears perked up.
“Sit still, honey.” Mark reminded sternly as he got closer to the end of the braid.
You nodded eagerly. “Yup! They’ve got a map of a BTS bus route with their album names as the bus stops.”
“Don’t encourage her, Y/N…” Mark groaned as he tied the second braid. He inspected his handiwork and seemed very proud of himself.
“Well, I have a suggestion,” You started carefully. “How about this? I can be your local tour guide for Gangneung today. I can show you the best photo spots, the most popular places to get your daily coffee fix and even get you a discount for bike rentals so you can cycle around the beach and the lake!”
The two of them nodded eagerly at your proposition.
//
It was a long, eventful day. The three of you had visited a hanok café, took way too many pictures at the Jumunjin bus stop and breakwater where they filmed Goblin, dipped your toes in Gyeongpo Beach and cycled around Gyeongpo lake. Your parents had immediately taken a liking to your new friend Mark and his cute niece, even insisting on packing them a container full of kimbap and banana milk for their journey back to Seoul.
“Thank you so, so much for today, Y/N.” Mark whispered as the three of you sat at the train station, waiting for their train. Bella had already dozed off with her head on Mark’s lap. It was an adorable sight. “We both had a lot of fun.”
“Not a problem at all. I enjoyed showing you around and visiting touristy places. I got to see my hometown in a different light.” You faced him, giving him a sincere smile.
He returned you with an equally bright smile that showed off his cute, pointy canines. “Let me take you out for dinner or something. You know, to make it up to you.” Mark’s ears began to heat up and were painted in a faint tinge of red. “Let’s exchange numbers.”
“Sure!” You replied. Was he asking me out on a date? You wondered. “I’ve been craving sticky barbecue ribs since I left the States.”
“I know a good place. How about next Saturday night?”
“I’m free.”
“Great, it’s a date.”

Chapter 3: Misunderstandings
Genre: slight Angst to Fluff
Warnings: appearance by Tetsuro Kuroo
Word Count: 1.6k
Tumblr media
It was like all the air and sound was sucked out of the room as Daichi and Nozomi stare at each other from across the restaurant lobby; both arm in arm with someone else.
The woman Daichi has his arm around is a beauty; fair and tall with perfectly curled hair wearing a stunning red dress that clings to every curve. She matches the man she’s clinging onto; Daichi dressed in all black with a crimson tie, looking all kinds of handsome. Nozomi feels childish with her own baby pink floral dress that just flares out; making her look like she should still be in high school. She clutches the fabric of said dress when she sees the other woman lean over to whisper something in the officer’s ear.
Daichi knows Kuroo is smooth, charming, and treats any woman he courts respectively. To see sweet and pretty Nozomi, with her starry eyes and soft pink cheeks, shower the once Nekoma captain with blinding smiles and twinkling laughter when they had strolled into the restaurant made Daichi clench his fists in jealousy; they look so… prefect together.
“Oya? Sawamura? Isn’t this a pleasant surprise?” Nozomi bristles as the air and sound come rushing back when Tetsurou addresses Daichi, the soft jazz and small clinks of cutlery almost deafening now. The taller man waves at his captain buddy and pulls the figure skater along with him. Her legs feel like lead as they make their way over to the other couple and her heart is in a jumble of emotions; nervousness, jealousy, dejection, sorrow… Daichi’s stare starts to get more intense the closer they approach that it makes Nozomi look away in shame. She grips Tetsurou’s arm tighter and wishes she was anywhere but here.
Daichi’s heart aches when Nozomi looks away from him and his fist clench tighter. He greets her and Kuroo through a strained smile and clenched teeth then introduces his date. The other man smiles appreciatively and returns the introduction with his own and Nozomi’s. Daichi HATES how smooth the figure skater’s name rolls off his rival’s tongue; It sounds like it belongs in his mouth. “Nozomi…” he tries under his breath and frowns at himself. It sounds rough coming from Daichi; too rough. He watches her lift her head to look up at him when she catches him calling her by her first name. It’s always Miss Hoshikai; even when he’s off duty or texting her, he addresses her as such. Hearing him say her name so softly has her heart yearning to hear it again. Daichi and Nozomi stare at each other while their dates chat beside them; not knowing what to say but wanting to say everything. ‘My colleagues set this up on me.’ the police officer thinks. ‘Tetsurou’s just a friend…’ the figure skater tries telepathically.
“Table for two for Kuroo-san?”
“Ah, that’s us. Well, we’ll leave you two love birds alone. Let’s go, Zomi?” Kuroo purrs. Nozomi tears her eyes away from Daichi. She wants to tell Tetsurou, no… That she’s no longer hungry or in the mood to be out. She wants to tell him to take her home and let her cry about how much it hurts seeing Daichi with such a beautiful woman. She wants to tell Daichi that this thing with Tetsurou is just a dinner; That she’s not into him at all and she’d pick the kind police officer over and over again. But…
“Yeah… Okay…” Nozomi responds softly and walks along with the taller man. She spares a glance back at Daichi and her heart breaks when she thinks she sees hurt and dejection set on his face. Or was it just the lighting? She has to bite her lower lip to stop a sob when she watches Daichi turn to his date with a smile and a chuckle.
“ - a friend…” Nozomi hears and she whips her head back to keep walking away, clinging to Tetsurou like her life depends on it.
---
Daichi enters the skating arena and scans the rink for Nozomi. He couldn’t shake last night from his mind and when he parted ways from his date, he spent a good hour or two staring at his phone; contemplating what he should say to the pretty figure skater. It hadn’t been long since they’ve exchanged numbers and they were still getting over the awkwardness of it all. While Suga commended him for getting her number, he still berated Daichi for not taking the chance to ask her out. “What are you waiting for? You like her, she likes you! Ask her on a date!” the silver haired teacher nearly yells at him from the other line. Daichi would tell him and Asahi that he doesn’t know why he’s hesitating, but deep down he knows why. There was something about Nozomi that made him feel a tad vulnerable. He’s usually so composed around strangers; people can see and feel his authoritativeness by just his posture alone. But the moment he met her, he had been nothing but a bumbling mess. He wonders how a girl like her can fall for a guy like him?
His heart does a flip when he spots her sitting on the rink’s sideline; skates still on but swinging her legs idly as if in thought. He slowly makes his way towards her, a bunch of questions he wants to ask her running through his mind. How long have you known Kuroo? Are you dating him? Is he your type? Do you know how pretty you looked last night? Do you know you look pretty all the time? Daichi stops just a few feet away, unsure of how to greet her. The last time he came looking for her at the rink, he’d been on duty. Today is his day off and he’s got on a varsity jacket over a plain white shirt and jeans; looking plain compared to his uniform he thinks. Sensing someone behind her, Nozomi turns from where she’s sitting and Daichi watches how her eyes light up and how her cheeks turn a pretty pink shade. His heart does another flip.
“Hi.” He greets weakly.
“Hi.” She responds back just as much. They stare at each other for a moment searching the other’s face for the answers they needed.
“About-“ “How was-“ they both try to speak at the same time. Nozomi bites her lower lip and gives a bow of her head as an apology while Daichi motions with a hand for her to continue.
“How was your date?” Nozomi asks hesitantly, unsure if she wants to hear the truth or not. Daichi reaches up to rub the back of his neck before he answers her,
“It uh… It was okay. She was nice.” The figure skater bites her lip harder and looks away, so he won’t see her eyes starting to mist over.
“Don’t think there’ll be a second date, though.” He continues. Nozomi sucks in a tiny breath at that, hoping filling her chest.
“O-Oh?” is all she can utter as she looks at him again. Daichi’s reassuringly smile is what greets her.
“Yeah. I… She’s not my type. The guys at the precinct set me up with her. They mean well but… It just won’t work out.” He confesses, recounting last night on how he couldn’t pay attention to the woman across his own table and his eyes kept glancing over to where Kuroo and Nozomi sat. In fact, he cut the date short: not in the mood to entertain someone he didn’t fancy and his thoughts and feelings in disarray.
“How about you?” How did the date with Kuroo go?” Daichi decides to bite the bullet and ask. Nozomi, finally riding out the wave of relief when he confided to her about his date, looks at him with determination.
“We were celebrating me getting a big sponsorship. Tetsurou is a friend of mine and he’s been helping me find companies that would sponsor me for the nationals.” Nozomi admits; finally clearing the air once and for all. Daichi takes in all that she said and replays it in his head once or twice more. The skater watches him process his thoughts while a smile makes it was across her lips.
“I see…” Daichi let’s out a sigh he didn’t know he was holding. It was like the sky over their heads cleared of any rainclouds that brewed from last night. Both of them could feel that something else was on the horizon; something good. Daichi takes a step… Then another… Then another until he’s standing next to where she’s sitting on the rink’s sideline. He’s staring at the ice, remembering the first time he saw her; gracefully gliding over the ice and enchanting him with her smile and blush alone.
“So… Just a friend you say?” he verifies, still staring into the rink.
“Yes.”
“Is he… Uh… Is he your type?”
“Mmm… Not really.”
“What is your type?” Daichi inquires. There’s a pretty long pause as Nozomi takes a while to answer so he peeks at her from the corner of his eye. Her head is tilted, and she has a finger to her chin as if she’s mulling over his question. He’d be nervous if it wasn’t for a playful smile she’s got on.
“Well… There is a very handsome police officer that I keep running into. He’s definitely my type.” She finally responds. Daichi’s face burns in red while the figure skater giggles at his reaction.
“I-Is that so?”
“Mmhmm.”
Daichi ducks his head to hide his red face and wide smile. Nozomi leans over to nudge his shoulder gently with hers.
“Maybe this police officer can take me out for coffee? If he’s free right now?” she suggests. Daichi’s head shoots up and he gives her a hopeful look. Her face is a pretty pink and there’s hope too dancing in her eyes.
“Do you… Do you wanna go grab some coffee with me?”
“I’d love to.”

Love me for me (2)
"If you're so great how come you don't know how to tie your shoes properly, doo-doo head ?" I shot back, taking a step closer with my chin up, finger pointing at his untied basketball shoes. Jungkook scoffed "why am I even here arguing with you? You sure talk a lot but you forget that your last name is Mcniplecocker. Thats an instant L"
he towered over you, chest looking larger than usual thanks to the tight white shirt that stuck to his body with sweat. Your eyes darted to his nipple and before he could even muster another insult, His nipples were firmly grasped between your thumbs and index fingers, twisting away with all your might.
Your lips tugged upwards in satisfaction when he let out a yell of surprise and pain.
"What the actual fuck?!" He backed away, freeing himself from your hands. You smirked "Now you know why my last name is Mcniplecocker. Because I twist nipples and I certainly do have a cock!"
You were shameless as you said theses words. Jungkook couldn't even bother thinking of something else to say other than "okay I'm leaving." As you watched him walk away from you in the empty classroom. You saw him turn the doorknob but he did not move.
Was he maybe going to say something?
The tugs at the door knob became more violent with each twist and you could see Jungkook losing patience. His shoulders slumped, "We're locked in."
"W-what?"
[THREE HOURS BEFORE BEING LOCKED]
"W-wow." You looked at the school in amazement, boxes in your hands, you watched as the other male students buzzled around campus with their parents and installed themselves into their dorms.
You didn't have the luxury of being here with your dad. Imagine one of the most wanted criminals in the past setting foot into a place filled with lawyers. Your plan would be immediately dead but most importantly, you'd be behind bars.
This school must of been as old as Harvard. The building resembled the ones they would teach about in history class -You know the medieval ages- only the inside had been done up.
They were the only University that didn't open its gates to every gender which only lured more male heirs from all over the planet.
Parents thought that no girls meant no distractions but what they failed to know was that in 2018,some boys didn't just like girls.
"Hey, do you want help? You seem lost.." startled at the sudden deep voice coming from your right side, you jumped a bit.
Turning around to take a look at who had the audacity to initiate a conversation with your lonely ass. To be completely honest, you had just been standing around, mouth agape, looking at boys passing you by.
Holy shit he's hot
Instantly, you felt blood rush to your cheeks, you hoped that he wouldn't notice. He stood tall compared to you, nose long and eyes almost rectangle-ish. The sun and the ore gold were both jealous of his heavenly skin. You watched as he ran a large hand through his chestnut hair.
"Uh-huh" was all you could muster. A frown draped itself on your features, realizing how dumb and un-dude-ish you just sounded. Maybe you shouldn't be so hard on yourself, nothing could prepare you to the fact that a freaking model would be here speaking to your thirsty ass.
"Are you perhaps looking for your dorm? I had tricky time finding mine too in my first year." His voice god his voice.
"Am Taehyung, by the way." He smiled, a smile so adorable you couldn't help but smile back too.
"Am Bob, yeah I think I need help."you smiled sheepishly, holding your box closer to your chest.
"Alright, ill need the number of your dorm."
"67-b"
"Ahhh, that's the law dorms. So you're a law student huh? So am I." He seemed excited. Long legs already taking the lead to find your dorm.
"Are you a third year student or ?" You asked, now entering the dorm you presumed to be yours.
"No, just a second year." He smiled.
You both walked in a comfortable silence until he stopped infront of a door. "67-b is here." He said with the nod of his head, leaning against the wall near the door.
"Do we usually have roommates?" You read that since it was such a prestigious and little school, they would give you your own room but you needed to be sure. You didn't want any surprises. "Yeah it'll just be you in there." He affirmed with his usual dashing smile.
"Official classes start in two days but if you want, you could still go check out the classrooms. There won't be any teachers so make sure you leave the door open or else you might be surprised."
"Oh okay." You didn't bother dropping your voice a couple octaves, sure that in the near future where you could be possibly drunk or inattentive, It'd royally fuck you up. You found it to be a better idea to stick to your normal low but warm voice and let the guys think that "oh, his voice sounds slightly feminine!"
You took a step back, hoodie floating around your body and hiding your womanly curves the best it could, you bowed slightly "thank you so much. I hope I'll see you around school!" You actually did hope to see him around .
Not only was he devilishly handsome but very sweet. You wouldn't mind spending time with him all while gawking at his beauty greater than the Greek gods. "If you want, in about three hours I'll be able to hang. I would've been available way sonner if it wasn't for the fact that we both need to unpack a little bit. We could meet up at your new law class? What do you say?" He pointed finger guns at you, only making you blush more.
Fuck he doesn't even know I am a girl and here I am blushing like a schoolgirl just because he invited me to hang out.
"I'd love to I-I mean yeah, that be cool dude." Awkwardly, you raised a fist in the air which he happily bumped. "Okay I'll be off now!"
And just like that, the chestnut haired boy was out of your feet with hop of his own. Leaving you to unpack with the sound of 90's music from your cellphone.
Your room was a decent size, a simple bed on the left with a desk on the right, a tiny kitchen area and out and down the hallways were the shared bathrooms.
You took out the basics, some clothes, toothbrush, the frozen goods your dad had cooked you and bedsheets. You'd finish up your room later,after seeing Taehyung.
Yeah, I'll do this as soon as I get back!
[thirty minutes before being locked]
Your room looked neat. There were still some boxes here and there but you promised yourself to unpack them as soon as you got back.
Now you had changed into a comfortable black t-shirt and joggers.You made sure to duck-tape your breast, of course.
You stepped outside, the sun hung lower but still shined and the wind blew, giving you a comfortable breeze. The other students also seemed to take this evening as a chance to explore the campus more.
You watched as two boys ran, almost bumping you on their way. The shorter one with plump lips turned and blurted a bunch of apologizes before his taller lean friend dragged him by the collar. "Cmon Jimin, we need to get him !" And they were gone, leaving you to wonder exactly who they were going to get.
You continued making your way to the class, eventually finding it.
It was spacious just like in the movies about college life. You quickly found yourself a the front where the teacher desk was but before that you made sure to keep the door open, starring into space and waiting for the young man. You heard foot-steps and a smile already adorned your features.
You turned around, waiting to be met with the chestnut haired boy but you were just met face to face with a chestnut haired boy, that wasn't your chestnut haired boy.
"Erm, sorry." You squirmed away as the buff boy with the angular nose reached to grab something behind you.
"Were you really trying to steal the notes professor had prepared for me?" He took out a sheet of paper almost out of thin air and you just stared in amazement until it hit you.
Hold on, did this guy just accuse me ?
"W-what? I didn't even know that was there. I don't even know who you are!" Brows twisted together in confusion, you couldn't help but dart your eyes to the paper and to his piercing gaze, examining me like a corpse.
I gulped when he crossed his arms over his chest, oblivious to his flexing, he stood about one head and a half taller than me.
"You're lying. Everyone knows me." He scoffed, confident in the words he spoke as I blinked away, still In confusion.
"Come again?" I tried, I really genuinely had no clue who this dude was. I mean yeah he's kinda cute or whatever but with an attitude like that, I don't see him having any friends.
"Of course you would play dumb, well you are dumb for trying to steal my notes. Maybe you should take the initiative like me and ask teachers to prepare you notes of everything you'll have to study for the semester." His thin upper lip twitched upwards, his eyes trailing over my body, probably judging.
"I wouldn't be so quick to judge lil punk, school hasn't even started yet and to inform you, i am the smartest student here, I don't need your bitchass notes to be able to catch up on class before class has even started."ooooh I burned his bunny looking ass!
A smirk adorned my full lips when I noticed the blush spread across his cheeks like wildfire. I watched as his confident facade slowly broke when he took a step back.
"I guess you really don't know me then, my name is Jeon Jungkook." Now he was the one with the smirk.
I deadpanned, "Uh, yeah I totally know you. Omg I cant believe I didn't realize sonner!" Arms crossed, I rolled my eyes.
"Think harder dumbass. Jeon Jungkook, doesn't that ring any bells?"
I thought hard, past all the cat memes, gta on PlayStation 2 cheat codes, my club penguin password, the pin of my first iPod. Past all the unnecessary things my brain stored I finally found what he has hinting.
All boys : Great Jeon University
It couldn't be, no .
Or could it be ? With my luck it could. His smile grew larger as he saw my eyes widen in shock. "Don't tell me this is some crappy wattpad plot where your family happens to own this school?" I already dreaded the answer I knew I would get. "Yes it is." His chest proudly rose.
"Well I couldn't care less , dumbass." I stated, indifferent.
"I just told you that my family basically owns this place and you don't give a shit?" Index pointed at my face, he asked dumbfounded. Not sure if my lack of respect for him should be a good thing or not. "You have a lot of guts for saying that to the great Jeon."
Thats an instant L" Your eyes twitched confused, how did he know your name? Then your orbs wondered down to your shirt who haired had gifted you as a joke with your fake name written just above your left tit.
he towered over you, chest looking larger than usual thanks to the tight white shirt that stuck to his body with sweat.
[taehyung pov]
I don't remember the building being so far... I entered the law block, nothing but the sound of my sneakers against the wood floor could be heard. Hallways were clear and so was the sky this evening. I smiled thinking of the new friend I had made.
Pat pat pat I whipped my head around st the sudden running noise "Jimin? Namjoon?" My brows arched in confusion, I watched how they frantically started shouting my name.
I looked back to the front
The class where I had so kindly asked you to meet up with me was maybe twenty steps away
I couldn't just blow you off, no that wasn't something I'd want at all.
But with a blink of an eye and a stumbling Jimin, we we're passed the door and left behind a loud clacking noise. In fear of having accidentally closed the door shut, I twisted my neck to look back all while running with the two grown man looped around my arms. "J-Jimin, the d-door!" I let out breathless, heart thumping
"Guys -wait there's someone-" Jimin quickly interrupted "Yoongi snuck a girl on campus!" I looked back again, wishing that my gut feeling was wrong, wishing I hadn't just locked someone in a classroom.
She might be late, everyone comes late nowadays! I reassured myself.
With a aggressive tug of my sleeve from Namjoon, I realized that I didn't have a choice.
I'll come back later, I promise.
[Narrator pov] You were shameless as you said theses words.
"W-what?"

Prom
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hinata x Female Reader
Genre: Fluff- A tiny tease of smut >~<
Warnings: N/A
Word Count: 3,040
Summary: You going to prom with Hinata.
A/N: First Tumblr story. I’ve been working on this foreverrrr, @peaxhcringe finally made me finish and of course helped me when I got stuck because she’s cool. I hope you guys enjoy it! Let me know if you want a smut part two. ;)
~~~
“No, I have no idea what I’m going to wear!” You said disappointingly to your best friend and Karasuno’s team manager Kiyoko.
She pushed up her glass on the bridge of her nose and stared off in concentration.
“I know what you’re thinking, don’t worry it’s a not a money thing! I just can’t find one I really like.” You hated lying to her but if she knew you had been running low on funds she’d never stop until you let her help.
She sighed before pointing at the boys who were currently preparing for their practice game against Nekoma next week with a group of guys you hadn’t seen before.
“You idiot!” Kageyama yelled chasing around your boyfriend of 6 months, Hinata.
Hinata squealed bolting across the gym fleeing the scene of the crime. His eyes locked with yours as he had made his way towards the entrance which inevitably caused him to lose his focus and fall flat onto his face.
You giggled covering your lips as Hinata’s bright red face stayed buried on the floor.
“It’s no fun when you punish yourself,” Kageyama said before throwing a volleyball at the base of his neck.
“Hey!” Hinata’s voice echoed as he turned around scowling as Kageyama walked further away.
You walked over to him helping him get off his feet before rubbing your thumb across his cheek that had started to bruise.
You smiled pressing a soft kiss against it before saying, “You really have to be more careful, that’s the third time you’ve fallen this week when I come by.”
He blushed while rubbing the back of his neck, “I know but you’re distracting.”
His arms wrapped around your waist pulling you into a tight hug before pulling you across the shiny wooden floor.
“You know Y/N there is only less than a week left until prom, have you found a dress?”
He sat down on the bench and Yamaguchi’s eyes lit up as he was called in and the team switched positions letting him serve.
You sighed as Hinata raised his water bottle chugging down the rest.
“I can’t find one I really like.”
Kiyoko looked at me sadly a few feet from the bench. She knew you had been hiding something as you weren’t the kind of person to not be satisfied with all the dresses I had seen.
Hinata’s face dropped and he laid his head on your shoulder looking up at me with puppy-dog eyes. “You’d tell me if something was wrong wouldn’t you?”
You swallowed hard before saying yes and trying to change the subject.
He continued to frown and grabbed your hand in his before sitting up and scooching closer to you as they continued the game. We watched as Yamaguchi hit his serve and the ball flew across the court. I watched as Hinata’s eyes followed the ball’s every movement his hand gripping yours tighter as the opposing side knocked it back across the court.
“You know, I’m gonna be the ace one day,” he whispered his eyes focused on his team scattered across the floor, “and I want you to be there to watch!” he finished his eyes locking with yours.
Your face turned a bright red and you hid your face in his shoulder, mumbling “I know you will be” while Kiyoko let out a small chuckle from behind us. You just wish you were someone worthy enough to be by his side.
~TimeSkip 3 days before prom~
“Y/N! It’s beautiful!” Kiyoko gasped as you stepped out of the dressing room.
Your h/l hair was pinned back its h/c waves contouring your face as you spun around in a cyan floor-length gown. The top was a strapless heart shape design connected to the long straight bottom with a variety of rhinestones in between.
“I love it.” You whispered staring at yourself in the full mirror across from you. Your e/c fluttered as you looked yourself up and down admiring the design.
Suddenly, your eyes stopped as you reached for the price tag.
“Maybe I should keep looking…” You said rushing back to the changing room before Kiyoko moved in front of you blocking your way.
“Absolutely not.” Her hands ran across the pricetag before nodding in approval. “I’ll buy it.”
“What!” You shrieked grabbing it from her hands. “There’s no way I’m letting you buy this it’s too much!”
She sighed pushing up her glasses before saying, “Y/n I can afford it, you never let me do anything for you and I want this night to be special, I remember my first dance and I want you to remember yours.”
Your e/c eyes started to tear up as you jumped forward wrapping your arms around her.
“Thank you.” You whispered sniffling against her uniform.
“Of course, Y/n.”
~TimeSkip 3 hours before Prom~
Kiyoko pulled back your h/l h/c slowly curling the edges and letting them fall against your soft s/c skin.
As the final hair fell, the door to her apartment swung open with a smiling Tanaka holding a bouquet of lilac flowers to match her long lavender dress with a medium slit tracing the edge of her pale thighs. He matched by wearing a purple tie against his dark tuxedo. Behind him popped out Nishinoya in an orange tux with a black-tie smiling followed by Asahi in a regular black tux with a white tie.
“Oh, hey we just finished.” She said unplugging the curler and walking over to Tanaka whose face lit up as she smiled taking the flowers.
“Woah Y/n you look great!” Noya said followed by Asahi who hovered over him smiling as Noya’s excitement filled the room.
“You think so?” You said spinning around in front of the wooden vanity where Kiyoko had done your hair.
“He’ll love it.” Asahi said seemingly reading your mind.
You smiled whispering a “Thank you” before following Tanaka and the rest of the gang to the car.
“A limo!” You squealed running up to the shiny exterior.
“I know a guy.” Tanaka’s older sister said, rowing down the dark window on the driver’s side smiling as we gathered near the door.
“Big sister is the best!” Noya said excitedly.
We smiled getting in the limo, its red seats stretched out before us.
“How did you guys afford this?” You whispered picking a seat further away from them letting the couples sit together.
Tanaka smiled pointing to himself “I worked out a deal!”
His sister turned around with an eyebrow raised, “A deal to do my chores for the next 3 months.”
“Why would you say that!” Tanaka whined, hiding against Kiyoko, who rolled her eyes hiding a small smile.
By the time we had got there, Sugawara and Daichi were already by the doors waiting for us and they both had on matching blue suits with black bow ties.
“Welcome to the party!” Suga said, smiling as we all shuffled in.
“Have fun tonight, but don’t stay out too late. We have our practice game against Nekoma tomorrow, now let’s have the time of our lives!” Daichi’s voice rang out loud, a sense of pride behind it.
You smiled walking over to the punch bowl where Yamaguchi and Tsukishima were.
“Y/n!” Yamaguchi excitedly leaned forward in a yellow suit with a white bow tie while Tsukishima leaned against the table in his coral-colored suit with a white bow tie to match Yamaguhci’s.
“Hey.” Tsukishima said
“Hey, guys!” You said, pouring a glass of crimson-colored punch into one of the clear cups nearby.
“Tadashi, I’m bored, can we leave.” Tsuki said, laying his head on his shoulder.
I giggled as Yamaguchi a.k.aYams or Tadashi for Tsuki started to lecture him before a flash of orange in the distance caught your eyes.
Hinata walked in through the gym's doors his hair spiked in its normal fashion but his skin was covered in a black tux with a bright red bow tie and in his hand was a single red rose matching the flush behind his cheeks.
Following behind him was Kageyama in a white suit with a dark black tie who stood next to Yachi who was in a short, ruffled black dress with a white flower tucked behind her ear.
Hinata’s eyes locked with yours from across from the room and his mouth dropped to the floor as his eyes started to move up and down your body. You made your way over to him through the crowd stopping a few feet in front of him.
“Hey-”
“Y/n,” he said, cutting you off, “you look b..eau..tiful…” His speech came out in fragments as he looked at you. Your face grew a bright red as your hands laid against the edges of your dress that trailed slightly behind me.
“Thank you.” You whispered looking down at your matching heels in embarrassment.
His hand swiftly moved to your chin forcing your eyes to meet his again. His other hand pulled yours forward putting the rose in your hands.
Your breath hitched as he started to smile and leaned forward pressing a soft kiss against your lips.
For a moment your eyes were locked on each other before Kageyama waved his hand between us.
“Shouldn’t the newest couple be heading over there?”
We looked over as Daichi and Suga who were making their way to the dance floor soon followed by everyone else.
You both hadn’t noticed the slow song that had begun to play.
“May I have this dance?” He asked, kissing your free hand.
You laughed pulling him to the middle of the floor.
Being the same height as Hinata was probably the easiest part of the relationship as your arms wrapped around his neck the rose hanging delicately between your fingers. His arms wrapped around your waist as you moved slowly in sync with the beat.
“It’s beautiful.” You said pulling one hand between you both, twirling around the rose.
Hinata blushed as you and him watched the rose spin between you. This Town played behind you as Hinata’s face grew into a bright smile before he started to bite the side of his lips.
“Can I kiss you?” He whispered.
You nodded a pink flush under the skin of your cheeks.
He leaned forward, his lips even with yours as pressed against them. The soft and delicate touch, as if not to break you, caused your heart to swell.
His hands moved to the sides of your arms his fingertips leaving goosebumps against your skin. The kiss grew darker as the song started to change the beat speeding up as the new lyrics replaced the empty sound.
He looked at you differently as he pulled away.
“Hinata?” You whispered, concerned, never seeing this side before.
He suddenly leaned forward pulling you into a tight embrace.
“Y/N…” he whispered, his breath dancing on your neck.
A familiar feeling washed over as you ached to get closer to him. You didn’t want this moment to end. You could stand here, dancing forever in Hinata arms.
Kageyama walked over to us as Hinata pulled away, Yachi’s petite figure racing to keep up with him. Hinata groaned aloud as you both were interrupted.
“King and Queen of prom pick are about to start, if we miss it Daichi will make us run around the school fifty times let’s go short stacks.”
You stuck out your tongue at his ‘clever’ nickname grabbing Hinata’s hand in yours.
“He’s right, last time I made you late to practice Daichi threatened to make me run with the team, regardless of me just visiting, imagine what he will do if we both miss this.”
Hinata’s eyes grew wide and nodded letting you drag him to the corner of the gym where a makeshift stage was small enough to leave plenty of room throughout the area.
Since the room had darkened it was no surprise when a small spotlight lit up the stage, the music faded into the background and you held Hinata’s hand tightly, anxious to see who had won.
“Good evening Karasuno High!” Takeda yelled in excitement, accidentally so loud the microphone screeched.
He scratched the back of his head, his cheeks warming as a few students giggled from the crowd after the sound had stopped.
“I-I my bad guys...anyways who’s ready to give away some crowns!”
The crowd cheered as the nominees stepped forward. So many couples stood on the stage it was hard to see who was who.
“As you know voting took place over a month ago but today these students finally get what they’ve been waiting for!”
The band walked into the gym, a drumroll set to play as Takeda clumsily ripped open the envelope containing their names.
His face grew brighter as his eyes scanned across the card now in his hands.
“For the first time in Karasuno High history, the prom kings are Daichi Sawamura and Kōshi Sugawara!”
The team and you screamed at the top of our lungs as Tanaka and Noya ran on stage jumping on the two as they entered from the back of the crowd.
Kageyama smiled and Hinata jumped up and down screaming at the top of his lungs. Yachi and Kiyoko giggled and clapped while Yam’s face grew into excitement while Tsuki turned his face slightly away, hiding the small smile forming on his face.
Your smile took over your face as you watched Daichi and Suga hug on the stage, the team and your cheers drowning out the rest of the gym. Takeda places the larger crown on Daichi and the smaller on Suga, Daichi leaned over and kissed the brim of his cheek smiling brighter.
“That’s gonna be us one day.” Hinata says smiling, causing the butterflies in your stomach to flutter.
The rest of prom went by quickly, Hinata and you were growing closer every second of the night.
The gym started to slowly filter out, more and more students leaving, as we slowly helped Takeda clean up the mess.
You looked up and realized the clock was already half past twelve. Daichi and Suga left first, beckoning the rest of us to leave soon as well. Next was Tsuki who was being dragged by Yams towards the entrance after saying something about ice cream. Noya and Asahi left with Tanaka and Kiyoko, taking Kageyama and Yachi with them when Hinata insisted on walking you home since he lived only two blocks away and your house was much closer to the school than Kiyoko’s.
As we walked out, Hinata grabbed your hand, holding it tighter every time someone else looked at us.
“You’re so protective.” You say before sticking your tongue out at him when his cheeks flushed.
“It’s your job.” He said innocently before noticing how you had slowed down.
“What’s wrong?” he said quickly jumping in front you, stopping you from going further without telling him.
His eyes instantly flew down to your feet as you moved one behind the other.
“It’s nothing, really my feet are just a little sore.”
His eyes stared at your feet for a moment, contemplating before leaning down, pulling them off of your feet.
“Now hold these.”
You quickly grabbed the shoes, your feet resting softly against the pavement before Hinata motioned for you to climb on his back.
“Hinata I-”
“I insist, Y/N”
You sighed before climbing onto his back, his arms tucked under your legs.
“You don’t have to do this.” You say muffled against his hair.
He chuckles, his laughter rumbling against your skin.
“I really want to Y/N.”
Your face flushes and he moves forward his feet dragging across the ground slowly as he watched them as if he were afraid he’d drop you.
Your house was getting closer now, just at the end of the street, right across from the next streetlight making your path bright ahead. You watched as Hinata’s feet grew even slower on every step. He finally stopped in front of your house, he gently put you down, the streetlight shining bright enough that you could see the dark cricles starting to form under his eyes as he stared at your front door.
“I don’t want to leave.” He whispered, looking back at you before his eyes shifted back to yours, his face suddenly bright again. “You’re coming to the practice game tomorrow right, I’ll save a spot for you next to Kiyoko, and I’ll win for you!”
His sudden burst of energy made you smile as you nodded leaning forward and wrapping your arms around him, your face buried in his chest.
“I had a lot of fun tonight.” You say muffled against his soft tux.
“Me too.”
He went quiet for a minute, the pavement growing cold against your bare feet. You looked towards your door which was under a small roof protecting the entrance knowing you’d eventually have to go in.
“Y/N.”
Your face turned back to his, his eyes staring at you, dark like they had been after we kissed.
“Yes?” You say in a whispered voice.
“I-I love you.”
Your face instantly turned a smoldering red as he stared at you, waiting for a response.
“I’m sorry-”
“I love you too.” Your voice was louder this time as you leaned forward pressing your lips against his soft pink ones locking with yours.
He hugged you tightly his mouth smiling against your lips. You felt his heartbeat quicken the closer you got, making you suddenly wish you were closer.
His arms started to trace the edge of your dress, his finger moving slowly against the material around your waist before following it to the bottom of your hips. You both had started to move out of the circle of light around you, where the street grew darker. You had only been together for six months but you felt closer to Hinata more than anyone in your life, even if you weren’t the best at expressing it.
His kiss slowly stopped as he breathed heavily against your neck. “Nekoma suddenly doesn’t seem so important.”
“What does..?” You whispered against his jaw.
He groaned, his eyes growing darker than you had ever seen them before.
“You.”
