Navigating Deep Space by Starlight
On August 6, 1967, astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell noticed a blip in her radio telescope data. And then another. Eventually, Bell Burnell figured out that these blips, or pulses, were not from people or machines.
Tumblr media
The blips were constant. There was something in space that was pulsing in a regular pattern, and Bell Burnell figured out that it was a pulsar: a rapidly spinning neutron star emitting beams of light. Neutron stars are superdense objects created when a massive star dies. Not only are they dense, but neutron stars can also spin really fast! Every star we observe spins, and due to a property called angular momentum, as a collapsing star gets smaller and denser, it spins faster. It’s like how ice skaters spin faster as they bring their arms closer to their bodies and make the space that they take up smaller.
Tumblr media
The pulses of light coming from these whirling stars are like the beacons spinning at the tops of lighthouses that help sailors safely approach the shore. As the pulsar spins, beams of radio waves (and other types of light) are swept out into the universe with each turn. The light appears and disappears from our view each time the star rotates.
Tumblr media
After decades of studying pulsars, astronomers wondered—could they serve as cosmic beacons to help future space explorers navigate the universe? To see if it could work, scientists needed to do some testing!
First, it was important to gather more data. NASA’s NICER, or Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer, is a telescope that was installed aboard the International Space Station in 2017. Its goal is to find out things about neutron stars like their sizes and densities, using an array of 56 special X-ray concentrators and sensitive detectors to capture and measure pulsars’ light.
Tumblr media
But how can we use these X-ray pulses as navigational tools? Enter SEXTANT, or Station Explorer for X-ray Timing and Navigation Technology. If NICER was your phone, SEXTANT would be like an app on it.
During the first few years of NICER’s observations, SEXTANT created an on-board navigation system using NICER’s pulsar data. It worked by measuring the consistent timing between each pulsar’s pulses to map a set of cosmic beacons.
Tumblr media
When calculating position or location, extremely accurate timekeeping is essential. We usually rely on atomic clocks, which use the predictable fluctuations of atoms to tick away the seconds. These atomic clocks can be located on the ground or in space, like the ones on GPS satellites. However, our GPS system only works on or close to Earth, and onboard atomic clocks can be expensive and heavy. Using pulsar observations instead could give us free and reliable “clocks” for navigation. During its experiment, SEXTANT was able to successfully determine the space station’s orbital position!
Tumblr media
We can calculate distances using the time taken for a signal to travel between two objects to determine a spacecraft’s approximate location relative to those objects. However, we would need to observe more pulsars to pinpoint a more exact location of a spacecraft. As SEXTANT gathered signals from multiple pulsars, it could more accurately derive its position in space.
Tumblr media
So, imagine you are an astronaut on a lengthy journey to the outer solar system. You could use the technology developed by SEXTANT to help plot your course. Since pulsars are reliable and consistent in their spins, you wouldn’t need Wi-Fi or cell service to figure out where you were in relation to your destination. The pulsar-based navigation data could even help you figure out your ETA!
Tumblr media
None of these missions or experiments would be possible without Jocelyn Bell Burnell’s keen eye for an odd spot in her radio data decades ago, which set the stage for the idea to use spinning neutron stars as a celestial GPS. Her contribution to the field of astrophysics laid the groundwork for research benefitting the people of the future, who yearn to sail amongst the stars.

Nezha frowned at the scroll before him. One of the few unedited copies of the Book fo the Dead that had escaped Wukong's graffiti centuries past. Whilst digging through archives in the Diyu on the behest of his father, he'd come across it. It was an unofficial copy, one that held all the information of its official counterpart, but none of the power. A draft copy so to speak.
And right there was his name, listed hundreds of years in the past, with a cause of death being a stray blast of the Samhadi Fire. One that was somehow averted by a certain monkey tripping at exactly the right time. Wukong had inadvertently saved his life during the Samhadi Fire ritual, and he had never known about it.
Connected to this previous idea of Wukong accidentally changing the recorded fates/ends of others.
Nezha has accepted that he's considered... well dead, by most Underworld definitions.
According the the official Book of the Dead; Nezha's death is listed as the very day he sacrificed his body to spare his family from the wrath of Ao Guang. The lotus-root revival by his mentor isn't really mentioned in the official document.
But in the Draft Copy which holds a lot more details and dates...
Nezha: (*picks up his Scroll, sees Projected Dates of Death in one of the headings*) Nezha, curious: "Ok, I'll bite." Nezha's Draft Scroll: "LI NEZHA first death; Self Sacrifice. Revived through Lotus Root by Taiyi Zhenren." Nezha: "No surprises there-" Nezha's Draft Scroll: "Second Death; Accidental Self-Immolation by True Fire." Nezha, pauses reading: "...what." Nezha's Draft Scroll, in bold lettering: "Fate averted."
Nezha reads the second entry carefully and pales when he lines up all the details.
Celestial and Infernal timekeeping isn't entirely accurate to Earth, but if the date mentioned on the scroll is correct then Nezha was supposed to die for good a long time ago.
Namely-
Tumblr media
Nezha's mind immediately shoots to that night.
Tumblr media
He was the first one hit by the Samadhi Fire when it split into four.
If Nezha had not been prepared mentally and spiritually, no doubt it would have been a serious injury.
But why hadn't he died that night as the Draft Scroll suggests?
Everything had gone mostly according to plan; The Samadhi Fire had been successfully extracted from Red Son, sparing him the chronic pain and early death carrying such a power entails. And the Fire had been sealed in Three-
No, Four Rings.
Ao Lie shouldered a quarter of the True Fire after that night. Even as a dragon, he was still a being of water and air, and the burden took it's toll on him physically in his remaining years.
Nezha's breath catches as he remembers why the Fire was split into Four instead of the intended Three...
Tumblr media
Wukong.
Wukong had tripped during the Ritual, accidentally severing his tie to the Fire long enough for it to split once more.
If they had each been hit by a full Third of the True Fire as opposed to a lesser Forth then Nezha's lotus-root body would have...
Nezha rolls up his draft scroll and puts it back in it's place.
He has thanks to give. And an apology long overdue.

Y'all so it turns out if you click on the little clothes hanger icon on the character's profile you can see their alternate art when they reach a high enough insight level and —
Tumblr media
Something about this makes me so sad???
Like it's Click. But he's alive. He's solid and corporeal and this might be the last time he was solid and corporeal.
The bandage on one of his arms, his face being nothing but calm and probably only concerned about the angle the shell is coming in for his picture is just tragic. I don't know what happened between when he dies and when he meets the timekeeper or if they're even gonna touch on that but like, man, it's so sad.
How did he get so obsessed with recording what was happening to the point of losing his own sense of self preservation and for said obsession to continue even in his 'afterlife'.
Can you imagine if he got to live until the end of the war? To see the war finally come to an end?

Reset Vertin and Timebreaker Sonetto
This is an Au heavily inspired by the song "Would you fall in love with me again" by Epic the musical, specifically the chorus and ending.
Reset Vertin who's been desperate for one true end with her friends and her deskmate turned assistant whom she'd try and live every reality with and Timebreaker Sonetto who has been looking in each reality, timeline, for a glimpse of the familiar blue hat that fate had tried to keep hidden in its chaos.
Vertin:
Due to a life changing battle with Arcana, the storm managed to distort the time enough to blur Vertin from her timeline and onto another, but it was replayed when she was transported in assistance for Regulus's recruitment. It may rewind to the same beginning but each return is a new different timeline, and each person she meets is slightly off from what she once knew.
Every time she reaches her end, whether it was a good or bad ending, she always ends up back in the very beginning, but not to when she was born but to that very specific point in time. It doesn't matter whether she dies by the Manus or by natural causes, she always comes back to that specific point in time and her memories remain, some colliding with others.
No matter what she does, no matter the choices she makes, she just keeps returning to that same beginning. Her hope slowly chipped away as she can't seem to find any means of escaping her fate. There were outcomes where the storm finally ended, where the reversal of time ceased and the Manus were eventually defeated but she could never escape, even when she died by her own hands.
She's fallen for the same girl each and every time, even when that girl was the one who put her to peace or when she led her to an unfortunate end. Her deskmate, the ever so loyal hound of the foundation, her assistant, her partner, Sonetto- only her. But she yearns to see the one she's familiar too the most, the one who was the first to hold the frog she's given, the first who held her hand with the utmost care, the first who draped a blanket whenever she fell asleep on her desk; She was the first and she'll be the only one residing in her heart.
Though as much as she wished to see her once more, she fears it all the same as well. Vertin feels as though she hasn't been strong enough for Sonetto, as she goes through the same yet different reality. She's done actions she'd regret and gained scars that added gaps to her stoic facade. If Sonetto saw her, would she still see the ever reliable Timekeeper that she adores or would she just be a cowardly sheep who tried to escape easy from the pointed fences.
Sonetto:
In Vertin's original reality, she has nearly been erased from her traces to the memories she created for her companions. All but one remembers her fully, the loyal hound remains with the fleeting memories and acting out her own volition for once, she chased after her. She ends up like Vertin, but rather than staying at one point of time, she's brought through different realities of where she and Vertin existed. But each reality is different, most times, she's failed to save her, or the other would be nothing but a fading ghost, some they haven't even met. It's the fact that Sonetto has gone beyond her beliefs that the foundation has taught her since she could hear, she acted through her own accord and what her heart has been begging her to for so long.
She broke the rules of the foundation, time and herself, even at times her own morals just to have another chance of finding or even catching a glimpse of a girl she loves. She's failed her, so many times, in so many ways yet she pushes through.
Doubts linger of the moment both gazes meet, if she's still the same assistant who'd cover her with a blanket every time she fell asleep on the desk, the same deskmate who'd hand her notes she could understand, the same girl she fell for that Sonetto never understood why. Or would she now just be a memory to her as well.
She's broken a lot of rules she once followed so diligently, even her own beliefs and morals, but for the sake of finding that fleeting memory, she'd break time if she had to. And she has.
She'd crossed lines she never thought of crossing, made choices that led her hands to be stained with red and tears, her once white and pristine uniform has been stained with blood and regrets but also a hint of determination.
For peace shall be with her when she sees the familiar moon she howled and cried to.
Would you fall in love with me again
If you knew all I've done?
The things I cannot change
Would you love me all the same?
I know that you've been waiting
Waiting, for love
I will fall in love with you
Over and over again
I don’t care how, where, or when
No matter how long it’s been
You’re mine
Happy new year everyone!!!!:DD

Piecing together: The current timeline in Reverse 1999
CN SPOILERS up to Chapter 5 and Interlude. Long post.
The new Chapter 5 and Interlude for Reverse 1999 has shed some light on the Storm and its timeline. With all the new info, I've tried to piece it together as accurately as possible. Here's the timeline I have put together:
Tumblr media
Let me break down my findings.
First of all, let's look at the IDM Computer with 37's Mother's prediction.
Tumblr media
37 mentions "From 1999 to 2007, the emanation has taken place seven times". Here's how I interpret what the years mean in the Phenomenal column. It's like calling the effect of the Storm: for the first row, the 1996 Storm reverses the era 1999 to 1996. So the "1996 Storm".
The IDM only shows 6 Storms, so the 7th is the Storm that reversed to 1929. I wonder why she didn't include the 8th Storm (1929->1913), but that could be because it was the anomaly 2-day emanation that ruined the model prediction.
Here's a table I have made attempting to fill in the blanks of the IDM computer.
Tumblr media
Let's analyze it Storm by Storm.
The 1st Storm (1999 -> 1996)
When: 23:59. December 31, 1999
Reverses to: 1996
Many sources for this, from the IDM showing 1996 to Greta, the writer of the letters in the interlude, mentioning it in her letters.
The 2nd Storm (1996 -> 1985) [Original: 2000]
When: 1996-1997.
Logs don't explicitly say when, but from the IDM we know it takes place ~1 year after the first Storm.
Reverses to: 1985.
We know this from Greta.
"Things remained unclear until time was reversed again. This time, we all witnessed that rain in the 80s. That was 1985."
She was safe in the Headquarters, witnessing the Storm reverse.
The 3rd Storm (1987 -> 1976) [Original: 2003]
When: On a 27th evening, 1987.
Greta: "The Storm in 1987 was predicted. "…but the prediction was not accomplished by LAPLACE. The captive from Manus Vindictae names the precise date of that Storm."
In Chapter 3, we learn the Foundation captured a Manus Vindictae member who gave them the date of the next Storm. Greta also mentions a captive from Manus predicted it.
Thus, this is the Storm that took place in the breakaway incident, where Vertin was 12-years old and witnessed the Storm for the first time.
Reverses to: 1976
Greta: "Finally, I made up my mind to write to [37's mother]... ... ... She died. On the same day, the first and only timekeeper who just took office, the 12-year-old child returned alone from the Storm. She told us the time in the outside world at that point." "...The last two digits in the number of the year after that Storm were exactly her name and her number: 77".
This was a bit hard to understand. I concluded the year it reversed to was 1976, as Greta said "the year after the Storm" was 77.
Original Year: 2003
Two years has passed from the 2nd Storm (1985) as this Storm took place in 1987. This fits with the year 2003 in the IDM computer. Also, when Sophia talks to Sonetto at the geometry graveyard:
Sophia: "Four years ago, my father was restored to a geometric body on his way back to the island. So was 37's mother who was also on that ship".
We know (or can at least assume) 77 is 37's mother who perished in this Storm. The current time is 2007, so four years ago is 2003.
The 4th Storm (~1976 -> 1930s) [Original: 2004]
When: 1976~1977/78
Reverses to: Some year in the 1930s
Original year: 2004
37: "In the initial four years, the emanation [Storm] has a pattern. First it brought us back to the 90s, then the 80s, and then the 70s. After that it suddenly leapt to the 30s."
When is the initial 4 years? 1999-2003, and this fits with our current pattern thus far from 90s -> 80s -> 70s. So the 4th Storm takes us to the 30s.
Sophia: "We miscalculated the impact area of the emanation. We thought the ships would be safe in the [...] current."
This confirms the Storm has a limited area it affects, where places hit by the Storm reverses to that particular year. The timeline of R1999 isn't going backwards linearly. This opens a lot of possibilities and eras we could visit.
The 5th Storm (~1930s-> 1912s) [Original: 2006]
When: Sometime in the 1930s
Reverses to: 1912
Original: 2006
37: ".... After that it suddenly leapt to the 30s. In the subsequent 3 years, [the emanation] took place twice."
When are the three years? The Storm that took us to the 30s was 2004. So the subsequent 3 years 37 refers to are: 2005, 2006, 2007.
Tumblr media
The IDM jumps from 2004 to 2006. You can (very vaguely) make out "1912" from the year 2006. At least I think it's 1912. So the 5th Storm takes us from the 30s to 1912.
The 6th Storm (~1912s-> 1966s) [Original: 2007]
Here's where it gets interesting, and where I start to theorize things because there isn't much info yet about this Storm.
When: Theorized: 1912~1914
Reverses to: 1966
Original year: 2007
In 2007, there is a 6th Storm. This is likely the Storm before the beginning of R1999, which takes us to 1966 where Vertin meets Regulus.
Here's why I think this Storm fits with the IDM model and happens in 1912~1914, more possibly 1914.
In Chapter 1, Vertin lists down people she has met to Regulus.
Regulus: "Huh? It's Lewis. I know him!" Vertin: "Yes. I took this photo several days ago. He was selling the Hoover Upright Vacuum Cleaners in the West End, and thought photos would help his business, so he gladly took this." Regulus: "Why did you take a photo of him? How's he..."
Vertin's response is to take a deep breath.
Tumblr media
This interaction was very interesting. Why is Regulus so surprised Vertin took a picture of Lewis? "How's he..." How's he what? Alive?
Now I'm not very familiar with historical figures named Lewis, so I could be very (and hilariously) wrong, but after researching who could be related to a business involving Hoover Upright Vacuum Cleaners, I speculate Lewis is John Spedan Lewis. His father, John Lewis, founded John Lewis, a British brand of high-end department stores.
In 1914, John Lewis hands Spedan Lewis control of a store named Peter Jones. Where is Peter Jones located? Sloane Square, London, which is in King's Road.
Vertin: "Yes. I took this photo several days ago."
This fits with the London location and timeline we know so far.  So a few days before Vertin met Regulus, she was in an area of 1914s where she met Spedan Lewis trying to get his store [Peter Jones] going.
Judging from her reaction, he got reversed by the Storm that took them to 1966. Spedan Lewis died in 1963, which is why Regulus is confused why Vertin has a picture of him taken several days ago, and why a wealthy Founder of high-end luxury stores needs a photo taken to help his business.
I thought this was a nice clue that Vertin was in ~1912s era before the 1966s, though this is all just speculation. Feel free to add your own theories who Lewis could be.
The 7th Storm (~1966s-> 1929s) [Original: 2007]
When: June 3rd, 1966.
Reverses to: February 14th, 1929.
Takes place in Chapter 0, where Vertin and Sonetto meets Regulus.
The 8th Storm (~1929s-> 1913s) [Original: 2007]
When: February 15th, 1929.
Reverses to: 1913
Takes place in Chapter 2, where Vertin meets Schneider, Druvis, and Sotheby. Manus Vindictae escalates the Great Depression to cause an earlier Storm. This era only lasts for two days.
These two Storms are straightforward since we witnessed them in game. I won't go into details about them. We're still in the year 2007 according to 37.
The Current Year in Ch 5: 1914 [2007]
Chapter 4 takes place from August 26th to October 10th 1913. The new Chapter 5 begins in 1914.
Tumblr media
Eight storms have taken place thus far. Here's a summary with the timeline for reference:
Tumblr media
1st Storm (1999 -> 1996)
2nd Storm (1996 -> 1985) [Original: 2000]
3rd Storm (1987 -> 1976) [Original: 2003]
4th Storm (~1976 -> 1930s) [Original: 2004]
5th Storm (~1930s -> 1912s) [Original: 2006]
6th Storm (~1912s -> 1966s) [Original: 2007]
7th Storm (~1966s -> 1929s) [Original: 2007]
8th Storm (~1929s -> 1913s) [Original: 2007]
The Current Year in Chapter 5: 1914 [2007]
Random thoughts:
I hope this post helped paint a clearer picture of the Storms and the possible timeline! Cause, whew, the reason I made this whole timeline was to make sense of it myself. So much lore was dropped in the new chapter.
A question that remains unanswered:
Tumblr media
How do people predict the Storm? How can they tell the time in the outside world?
Moissan: "Since Timekeeper hasn't reported the time of this era to the Foundation, you two, as the Foundation investigators, shouldn't know what year this is."
We know 37's group predict them through patterns and math, but what about the Manus Vindictae and Vertin? Vertin just seems to... innately know through her pocket watch and Storm countdown timer on her bracer, perhaps related to her great sense of arcanum. I'm really curious about that.
Biggest Takeaways:
The Storm isn't going backwards linearly and it has a limited impact area. So that means some places not hit by the Storm remains untouched, while others get reversed to whatever era the Storm brings. The first Storm probably had the widest impact.
This means an era in the 1912, for example, could be "reversed" to 1966 if it was hit by the 1966 Storm. That's what I'm getting from all of this. Anyone in the Storm impact area just... poofs, and arcanists/humans in that time era spontaneously appear with the buildings and such. I really love this idea-story wise we could jump around eras.
Then we have places that are completely immune like the Headquarters, Suitcase, and 37's island. They are the only ones who can consistently keep track of time as they're unaffected like spectators viewing the outside world. For the Foundation, Vertin is their way of tracking time in eras: what era did a Storm reverse a place to.
Again, some of these are just speculations and my theories. If you noticed any information I missed out or a mistake, feel free to let me know whether through tags, reply, or even my asks if you're shy. Or if you would just like to talk theories or about Reverse 1999 I'm more than happy to :>

Knowing our Arcanists 12: Pavia
Welcome to entry twelve of my series: "Knowing our Arcanists"! This is a series in which I introduce and tell the stories of our fellow characters in Reverse: 1999. Today's character is the one and only: Pavia!
Tumblr media
Disregard my previous post about Зима being the first one hit with the yaoi beam, he was the meat shield before him. I think I'd want to have his accessories even if they're horribly cheap. Lets get started.
Pavia is a mixed individual born on July 24th in Rome, Italy. When he was young, he was sent to Piedmont and lived there for many years before moving to Sicily. Pavia's arcane skill is a physical manifestation of his trauma with isolation, turning into a pack of wolves molded by darkness.
He's a mercenary that is currently active in the 90s, known for doing jobs left and right. He's an excellent mercenary, but tends to lack collaboration skill and is adamant in working independently.
As a child, Pavia was born from both arcanist and human parents. His mother, who came from Piedmont, moved to Rome to be with his father. At one point after Pavia was born, his mother had been sent to an asylum whilst his father went missing, leading him to be sent to Piedmont to be raised by his aunt.
Likely unbeknownst to him, his mother died back in Rome, and his aunt was overcome with grief. To her, Pavia looked a lot like her sister, and he was a troublesome child. Being taken over by such grief and hate, she confined Pavia in the basement for a long time as he grew up.
Confused and enraged, Pavia did all sorts of things to try to get out of the basement. Cry, fume, attempts to yield and apologize to his aunt, but the door never opened for him.
At first, he had access to the outside, being able to see passersby who crossed Piedmont to travel to different regions in Italy, even meeting a traveler who talked of film to him. But over time, natural light ceased to exist in his world, leaving him in the dark.
Out of that isolation came his friends, the wolves that gathered around him and allowed him to rest easy in the endless night. Like imaginary friends who never seemed to fade away since daylight never reached them. They became family to him, ones who would never leave him behind.
When he became older, he gained that strength to break out of that basement. What became of his aunt is unknown, but he became the infamous mercenary afterwards, traveling from Piedmont to Sicily. With quick and straightforward work, he gained his hard earnings, and
At one point, he worked with a man named James Burton, who published a book named Reminiscences, who described Pavia to be a "madman" and a "punishment." Many jobs later, he found himself hired by the Timekeeper in the Foundation, but didn't realize 'til way too late that he can't back out of it now.
Pavia can be described as a very aggressive and prideful individual. He uses threats to keep people distanced from him and to allow him to work on his own. This resulted in a lot of complaints about him, but he was never one to care.
When he does make friends however, his aggression can become affectionate; while he puts little trust in those around him, he'll always be open to talk of his gore-y and violent fantasies.
He's also an avid enjoyer of art and sweets, wearing cheap and handmade accessories, even wearing patterned shirts and sporting tattoos. He's often found eating gelato and tends to be very specific about its refrigeration.
The trauma coming from long-term isolation runs deep, often making Pavia uncomfortable when working with others. He shows great aversion to collaboration and affection from those around him unless its his close friends: the wolves that grew up with him.
All with names, they're who Pavia can put his full trust in to walk through the cold and dark nights across the world. He'll rarely ever sleep, instead taking the time to admire the dark skies and the guiding moonlight from above.

Another Narrator design who appeared in here
Tumblr media
This is Benjamin, Timothy's Narrator and although he is turned into a damn statue he is still conscious, and while he can't move, speak or see, he can feel everything around him, so yea funsies
For context vvv
He was locked into the Parable because he was different from the others, and by different I mean he was infected with a type of program, also known as The Solver I may or may not have shown before, and if you're not familiar with Murder drones you pretty much don't know what that is all about. So, he has that Solver, and with that he can create things and destroy them, and that's when he made the Parable, Stanley and Timekeeper, also known as Timothy I've shown in a few of my arts (1, 2, 3, 4), and with making those two he "passed" the Solver to both of them, giving Timothy the ability to go into the void, teleport and gain ability to the settings. Similar thing goes to Stanley, but he only gained the ability to gain access to the player settings.
So then how did he turn into a statue? The skip button ending happened, he 'died' and then the Parable itself started dying with him. And because of that, the resets slowly died too, therefore there were no resets and well Stanley slowly went insane. He got back into the Parable and after realising there wouldn't be any resets he decided to do the zending one last time
Boom, drama! Although Stanley did die there, Benjamin is still alive, just in a state of coma where he can't move his body. His Curator is trying to find a way to bring him back, knowing it is possible, while Timothy gave up on him completly, unaware he didn't actually die. Tim started going through different dimensions, where he met Sebastian, who Timothy wanted to take advantage of at the start, but decided to keep his head because well he can't survive for long in other dimensions. He used Sebastian's body to keep himself alive, and by that yes I mean he got into Seb's body like Venom from Venom and with that, Timothy subconsciously spread the program to Sebastian and now he can do fun shit like lift things up with a hand movement, rotate them, destroy them, fun stuff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, just watch Murder Drones if you want context for the Solver

For the one word prompt: Ghost
<3 went with lawlight. this takes place in an "L change the world" continuity (where L writes his own name in the death note for 23 days later in order to defeat light, light dies first, and L wears his broken watch).
--
Lately it's just been jingling. A bit of clanging. It tends to ease a bit when L closes his eyes, but somehow the quiet is disquieting still.
His wrist tugs to the right again. The chains jingle.
It does seem to get more persistent the higher the moon creeps. Next time he needs cuffs like this, he's going to find the padded ones, stop the bruising on his ulnar head and the cold feel of the metal on... well, actually, it's a bit of a moot point, now.
"I want to go to sleep," Light says plaintively. "Hurry up."
Look to two timekeepers:
Down: it's still just a broken watch.
Up: 8 days to go.
L touches the shattered glass on the watch's face. It's of a fine make. Stainless steel resting gently, snugly, against the bones of his wrist. The band is warm to the touch, or warm-ish, warm enough, as warm as it can get from his dubiously low body temperature.
L shakes his arm. The watch doesn't move. He looks away and shakes it again. The cuff jangles against his wrist, chilled and ill-fitting. The chain jingles. Someone breathes behind him.
"L," says Light. "Hurry up. I want to sleep."
The chain tugs him again.
Look to two out of time: 8 days to go and there's no light in the room. The moon crawls a little higher, petulant.
"I'll come soon," says L.

𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗫
a/u: im overdosed of manhwas and this is based on pure whim. you may know me from other blogs, or not. tee heeeeeeeeeeee. i dont support the company btw, they can go suck my dick as stelle blows my back :3
summary: you, an omnipotent and supreme being that transcended beyond mere concepts, were utterly bored, having spent most of your existence overseeing multiple timelines. one day, you detected an anomaly in your realm, marking the beginning of an unheard comedy.
warning: basically timekeeper cookie but more fucked up. slaughter, mentioned death, insanity.
Tumblr media
your earliest memories were the praises of people around you.
"such an amazing kid!"
"you are destinied for greatness!"
a quintessential example of geniuses, your hyperintelligence made it hard for you to enjoy things. you were perfect, as flawless as a human could be, you didn't need to prove anything, for people had already been on their knees at your mere presence.
it was so boring.
a thought occurred to you upon stumbling across a tragedy about two lovers, who were bereft of other's existence because they were stuck in different timelines.
for the first time, in your aimless and doomed to meet an end somewhere else mortal coil, you found something that exhilarated you. frankly, it wasn't an original idea, for generations of forebears had failed in attempts to look into the concept of time as a whole. your goal in this project, however, was not only to explore the untapped potential but also to open a new way to utilize it. at that moment, time was considered taboo, a flow of nature that mortals and alikes were forbidden to meddle with, thus the extreme backlash you were subjected to. you had never once cared for the crowd's opinions, they served to slow you down, so why should you listen to them when you had discovered a new toy to waste time on. your arduous journey led to the creation of the 'sonic embroider', the most powerful and controversial invention from mankind. it allowed the users to wield a small portion of time, not enough to control it, but enough to cause a ripple throughout the universe. some said this marked an unheard era, while others were prone to fear and distaste.
you weren't satisfied.
your belief in the item's full power had resulted in the many disappearances of volunteers, one by one, vanishing into thin air without any traces left.
well, one did return.
she, #14, was reported as the sole survivor of your merciless experiments. her mind was fractured, always mumbling incoherent words, and her tendencies to flinch at the smallest noises and vacant faces were annoying, to say the least.
after all, you were exasperated by humans' feelings in general.
her death didn't deter you, causing you to spiral farther into an abyss of insanity, one that you had never regretted, not even when your power, which was that of a being transcending beyond concepts, allowed you to turn back.
one day, you decided to ride on the 'sonic embroider' yourself. it was a much faster and more effective solution, but its consequences were to be warned.
the exposure to views of all ruined and refracted timelines, accompanied by the horror of constant dreadful loops, happened because an ambitious person dared to explore its endless cruelty was enough to wreck your mind. it brought irreversible havoc and chaos within your quiddity and you embraced it.
you welcomed the madness, for it helped dissolve any resemblance left of human nature inside you.
in the end, you remained the head of the organization, your personality had never changed, for there was no difference between the divinity and mortality. there was a thin line between a genius and a madman, and how you thrived off of it.
when they passed away, you took it your cue to reside in your realm, not before bringing forth more unnecessary entropies and messing with other timelines. the realization that you were now a sovereign of time itself didn't bother you, especially not when the waltz of discord and consternation, of divinity and mortality, mixed so well together, a symphony of your actions.
recently, you had been hanging out with a past version of yourself, a timeline where you were more caring and more lenient towards others. you took it upon yourself to convince 'her' to become a second you, as you were bored of observing without a 'friend' to gossip with. since upon 2¹³⁶ ²⁷⁹ ⁸⁴¹ − 1 timelines, there was only one you that succeeded in ascending to godhood, you chose to play an unpredictable gamble with yourself, turning off your ability to view the future for fun temporarily. you were glued to her since then and always bothered her with irrelevant ideas, not to you.
today though, you had to cut on your stay a bit. a time distortion was spotted in a nearby future, which was extremely rare. it indicated that this specific timeline had been kept clandestine from your keen eyes. as a typical bored god, you decided to give this time distortion a little push.
grass gasped underneath the footsteps of people, as the once cheerful ceremony now tainted with the ugly high-pitched screams. amid the chaos, was the one who caused it all, you, sitting on the golden embroider. a smile was plastered on your lips, like it had always been there. your one single eye swirled in a wicked excitement, revelling in the delicious desperation of residents. it wasn't the voices nor the blood that delighted you, but rather how they pushed each other back, willing to leave behind their loved ones to secure their lives. some begged, on their knees, foreheads clashed against the floor, for a salvation from you. with a mere flicker of fingers on their noses, you casually granted them the ability to wind back in time. your eye, the one that hadn't covered by the eye patch narrowed ever so slightly at their joy, giggling to yourself for your knowledge of their future.
you felt quite tired of having to do it by yourself. hadn't it been for that precise requirement, you would have 'borrowed' a mechanical armor from a fallen empire. wiping clean your trustworthy weapon, you rode away into a hole. it was an entrance to a time pocket, which you usually randomized. a comfortable place, except for those who were sick of the constant ticks from the clocks, or the hypnotizing movements of swirls. with a loud bang, an anomaly crashed onto where you usually sat, the sonic embroider.
"hello there!" you cooed, speeding up its disorientation. gloved hands gently wrapped around the small creature, as your smile widened ever so slightly.
"look like you are going to be stuck with me!" you exclaimed, examining its cog-like appearance.

Raymond Leon x Reader ask? Leon doesn't seem to have many friends, real friends in the movie. Maybe he once did but they're all gone now, timed out or killed because they couldn't get out of the ghetto like he did. Can you write a drabble where he makes an arrest and criminal/reader winds up being the only kid of one of his old friends and he feels protective because she's the last piece of a life he left behind? And of course he catches accidental romantic/naughty feelings!
i absolutely adore raymond, thank you for requesting him 💖
lonely (raymond leon x afab!reader)
warnings: age gap (obviously, raymond is ???? and reader is in her 20s-30s), mentions of death, slight nsfw/mentions of smut (just raymond’s thoughts, nothing actually happens)
author’s note: we as a society need more raymond leon fics 🙏
wrote this at 1 am so i apologize if it’s not the best
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it wasn’t uncommon to see raymond taking late night walks by himself or sitting at a restaurant table alone, his apartment was too big; too quiet. outside of his work, raymond was lonely. he’d never admit it, but it was a loneliness that dragged on along with him, creating an empty, clouded space in his life.
once upon a time, raymond wasn’t so lonely. he had people he considered friends, people he cared for.
some would say that he was the last of his kind. that he was the lucky one, the one who got out of the ghetto and was able to make a life for himself, unlike those he had to leave behind. his memories of them were distant and scattered, replaced by the loneliness that had started to consume him after their deaths.
when he’d first met you, you’d been caught for time theft.
you hadn’t meant to steal time- in fact- you didn’t steal it. you’d run into a man in a bar and he offered it to you. it wasn’t until after he’d transferred 50 years to you that he began exclaiming that you’d stolen it from him. drunk or insane, you didn’t know. you figured both.
raymond looked at you as he took your arm, transferring the “stolen” time, and cuffed you. your face was familiar, your eyes holding a familiar light that he once saw in someone else. he shook the thought out of his head, leading you to his car.
when he asked for your name, you told him. he immediately stopped walking, freezing in place. he told you about how he’d known your father.
your eyes widened as he spoke. you’d never met anyone who knew your father- your father had died when you were young. your memories of him were just as distant and scattered as raymond’s.
“you did? but you’re a timekeeper-”
you looked at raymond for the first time. his hair was black, slicked back and his pale blue eyes staring into yours, his hands gripping your arm so tightly you swear you could see the white in his knuckles.
“i grew up in the ghetto. i got out.”
raymond was short with you. it was obvious to you he didn’t like talking about his past, or maybe he’d just never had anyone to talk about it with. you understood, though, that he’d lost people. you didn’t push, going silent once again.
he loosened his grip on your arm, carefully transferring the time back to you.
“when your father died, i’d lost the last of everything i knew. why waste such a pretty little thing like you?”
-
eventually, you’d started staying with him. he was gone most of the time anyways. when he returned home at night, he’d find you asleep on the couch. he’d gently pick you up and carry you to bed, laying you down.
raymond always thought about you. his thoughts plagued him, distracting him from his work and making it hard for him to focus.
when he laid down in his bed and closed his eyes at night, he could only see you. the way you’d look underneath him, your body exposed and just for him to feel, to kiss, to hold as he thrusted in and out of you.
on top of all of this, he had an unyielding feeling to protect you. to protect this last piece of life he had, this last reminder of his past.
he let you stay with him because he knew it was dangerous for you to walk around with that much time. you didn’t mind, you figured if anyone was skilled enough to protect you it was him.
but, you gave him something so much greater than all of the time in the world could give him. for the first time in as long as he could remember, he wasn’t lonely. his apartment was no longer too big and too quiet for him. and, for the first time in his long life, he felt something else: love.

Raymond Leon x Reader (In Time)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Time Between Us
In the dim glow of the streetlights, Y/N sat on the cold pavement outside the old diner, legs pulled to her chest, arms wrapped tightly around her knees. The clock embedded in her arm blinked steadily. 24 hours. She breathed slowly, trying not to waste the precious seconds. It was a routine day in the ghetto. Life wasn’t kind to people like her.
Her mother had died three months ago, her time drained to zero, and Y/N had inherited the same fate: a relentless fight against the clock. She had no illusions about how little she had, but she was a survivor, scraping by through odd jobs and careful decisions.
Inside the diner, she overheard rumors of Timekeepers moving through the sector. She heard the name “Leon” mentioned more than once, and though she’d never seen him, she knew enough to be wary. Timekeepers were to be feared in her world. They didn’t care about the poor; they enforced a system designed to keep people like her barely alive.
Y/N knew she didn’t have time for fear—not when every second counted. She rose, brushing dirt from her jeans, her mind set on where she’d get her next few hours.
---
Raymond Leon stepped out of his sleek black car, his sharp eyes scanning the dimly lit streets. This part of town felt familiar, though he hadn't grown up here. He'd spent too much time chasing criminals through alleys like these, watching people beg for minutes, hours, anything to buy them more life. There was no mercy in his line of work.
His suit, perfectly tailored, felt out of place in this sector, but he wore it like armor. He moved with purpose, his long strides cutting through the crowd without hesitation. People scattered when they saw the badge, his rank unmistakable.
Today was no different. He was looking for a time thief, someone who had disrupted the careful balance. But there was something different in the air-an awareness of him that hadn't been there before. People were afraid, and fear always bred desperation.
As he walked past a crumbling diner, his eyes fell on a young woman stepping onto the street. She didn’t run, didn’t look away like most others did. Her gaze met his, and for a fleeting second, Leon felt an unfamiliar tug of recognition. But he shook it off, his attention returning to the task at hand.
---
Y/N knew better than to make eye contact with a Timekeeper, but her curiosity got the better of her. His face was stern, his posture rigid as if he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was certainly older than 35, but in their world, that meant something. Timekeepers, with their infinite reserves, were some of the few who could afford to live so long.
She turned down an alley, her heartbeat quickening. She wasn’t a criminal, but poverty made everyone look guilty. She had barely made it a block before she heard footsteps behind her, deliberate and measured. She cursed under her breath. Of course.
“Stop,” a voice called out, low but authoritative.
Y/N froze, biting her lip. Slowly, she turned to face him, eyes wide but defiant. She expected him to demand her ID, to ask how much time she had, but he didn’t.
“You were watching me,” Raymond said, his gaze never leaving hers. It wasn’t an accusation, more like an observation.
Y/N’s heart raced. “No more than you were watching me,” she shot back before she could stop herself.
His brow furrowed, but there was no malice in his expression. “What’s your name?”
She hesitated. What good would it do to lie? “Y/N.”
He stepped closer, just enough that the light from a nearby lamp caught his face. Up close, he looked different—tired, maybe. Older than she expected. The Timekeepers always looked invincible from a distance, but standing in front of one, Y/N could see the weariness in his eyes.
“Do you have enough?” he asked quietly, nodding toward her arm, to the clock ticking steadily down.
Her throat tightened. She didn’t want his pity. “Enough for now.”
He nodded again, his eyes darkening with something unreadable. “Get home safely.”
It wasn’t until he walked away that she realized she hadn’t been breathing. She waited a full minute before moving again, her head spinning with confusion. Why hadn’t he stopped her? Why hadn’t he demanded to see her time? The questions clung to her as she hurried through the streets, back to the small, rundown apartment she called home.
---
For the next few weeks, Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. She hadn’t seen the Timekeeper again, but something about their brief encounter stuck with her. She found herself walking different routes, avoiding the diner where they had crossed paths, but it didn’t matter. His presence lingered in her mind.
Meanwhile, Raymond Leon found himself returning to that sector more often than his duties required. There was no logical reason for it. Y/N wasn’t a criminal, wasn’t someone on his radar, but something about her sharp wit and defiant gaze stayed with him.
He wasn’t used to being noticed—Timekeepers operated in the shadows, feared but invisible. But Y/N had seen him, really seen him, and it made him question things he hadn’t allowed himself to think about in years. He knew the system he protected was flawed, but he believed in order. It was the only way he knew how to live.
Weeks turned into months, and their paths crossed more frequently, though never directly. He would catch glimpses of her in the market or walking through the crowded streets, always with that same determined look in her eyes. She was surviving, but barely. And for reasons he couldn’t explain, he began to care.
---
One evening, as Y/N was walking home, she heard footsteps behind her again, faster this time. She turned, expecting to see someone desperate for her time. But it was Raymond.
“Why are you following me?” she demanded, her voice steadier than she felt.
His expression softened, just slightly. “I’m not.”
She didn’t believe him. “Then why are you always around?”
For a long moment, he didn’t answer. He wasn’t sure himself. “Because I shouldn’t be.”
Y/N stared at him, confused. “What do you want from me?”
Raymond hesitated, torn between duty and something he couldn’t yet name. “I don’t know.”
They stood in silence, the world around them continuing as if nothing had changed. But for them, something had—an unspoken connection, fragile but undeniable. Y/N took a step back, her hand hovering over her clock.
“I don’t have time for this,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion she didn’t fully understand.
Raymond’s eyes dropped to her wrist, and for the first time, he allowed himself to feel the weight of the system he upheld. Without thinking, he reached into his pocket, pulling out a small capsule of time. He held it out to her, his face unreadable.
Y/N looked at it, then at him. “Why?”
He didn’t answer. Instead, he placed it in her hand and turned away, his back straight as he walked into the night. She stood there, frozen, staring after him, the cold metal of the capsule burning in her palm…

okay, i will be the first to admit that I STRUGGLE with keeping comic timelines straight.
But Dick is here in Batman #436 saying that it's been two years since he left.
If I remember everything correctly.
Post-Crisis version of Jason hit in #408 and apparently trained for 6 months at least before he was allowed out as Robin.
Jason meets Dick in #416 at which point it's said that Bruce and Dick haven't spoken in 18 months.
Jason has one at least a few missions as Robin at that point, enough to get noticed by the news... I am again a bad judge of time, but lets say he's been doing the job at least a month for the news to make its way back to Dick via newspaper?
So it's maybe fair to say that he might have joined Bruce ~11 months? after Dick left??? Maybe a little earlier depending on how long you think it took for the new to make it to Dick.
Jason died in #428. I cannot judge how much in-universe time is supposed to have passed.
Then here in #436 Dick says it's been "two years", which we can read probably as "two years and some months" rather than "exactly two years".
Comic Time =/= Real World time, of course... but exactly how long does this mean Jason's tenure as Robin was supposed to be??? Because this feels like it could be measured in months as easily as years?
Like if we go with~11 months? after Dick left being his starting point (11 months of Bruce alone + 6 months of training + 1 month for the newspaper to get word to Dick= the 18 months Dick mentions)
Jason's been dead for at least several issues when Dick says it's been two years in this issue? again, taking the two years as rounding for anywhere from "exactly two years" to "two years five moths" (since Dick doesn't say "two and a half years")
This is definitely set at least a little after the show down in the cave in New Titans 55. Dick went back to the Titans for a while after that issue. He's in Kory's apartment with her worrying over him going to Gotham to see Bruce and in a therapy session thinking about his relationship with Bruce in New Titans #57. He tells the therapist that he can't "keep" avoiding the issue with Bruce, so it's definitely been more than a few days. We see him pull up to the manor in that same issue. He's talking to Alfred in New Titans #58, which is said to be set after Batman #437.
I'm gonna guess Jason's been dead a few weeks to maybe a little more than a month based on that?
So let's say two years really means "two years, 5 months ish" at most, subtract a month for Jason to be dead bringing it to 2y4m, so 28 months. And if Jason started as Robin around 11 months after Dick left, that would mean he had something like 17 months on the job? Or rather, 1 year, 5 months, slightly more than a year and a half.
Again, that's with the most generous windows I can think of for time passing, allowing for rounding and casual timekeeping. You could say that if we want to take Dick exactly at his word, only 6 months have passed since #416 and #436, which if we still think Jason was Robin for about a month before Dick met him would mean that Jason was only Robin for less than a year.
And I don't even want to do the math for how soon that makes Tim take Jason's place, honestly. Tim becomes Robin over the course of #440-#442. Out of universe, it's been slightly less than a year, but in universe??? 😕
(And before anyone brings it up- I don't think whatever the timeline for Tim in universe can necessarily be used to divine characterization for Bruce or Dick because it is very much a Doylist, editorial-driven decision. It isn't necessarily fair to treat it just as a character decision when the sales and marketing side probably played a heavy role.)
But yeah... this may be a waste of time given how many times the timeline has been reset since this point. I have no idea how much of this even is still standing or still counts. AND! It's also a timeline that is somewhat warped by Infinite Crisis.
But it's personally weird to me because I always got the impression from fandom that Jason was Robin a lot longer than he was.

In a special event hosted by the British Film Institute and Vanity Fair at the BFI Southbank on Wednesday evening, Chalamet and Ronan reflected on making 2017’s “Lady Bird” and 2019’s “Little Women,” both from a pre-“Barbie” writer/director Greta Gerwig.
While the two hadn’t me prior to “Lady Bird,” Chalamet recalled being told about Ronan by Emery Cohen, who had worked with her on the 2016 hit “Brooklyn.”
“I kept hearing this name ‘Saoirse, Saoirse’ and didn’t put two and two together when I saw the name spelled out, because I’m an ignorant American, but then we got to work and I was just blown away immediately,” he said.
Added Ronan: “We were very lucky that we clicked straight away and we had Greta, who from day one seemed to be so excited about what was happening between the two of us.”
While not her first major role, “Lady Bird” would further cement Ronan’s leading lady status (and land her her 3rd Oscar nomination). For Chalamet, his supporting role in the film, coupled with his Oscar-nominated lead turn in “Call Me By Your Name” that was released around the same time, would dramatically boost his profile.
“Everyone was sort at a genesis, especially on ‘Lady Bird,” Chalamet said. “It was a small production and I feel like we had no clue how well received it was going to be.”
It was while doing the press tour for “Lady Bird” that Ronan recalled having to pitch herself to Gerwig for her next feature, “Little Women.” “I sort of had to tell her that I was going to be in it,” she said. “She hadn’t sort of landed on me yet, and were in the middle of promoting ‘Lady Bird’ and I was like, ‘By the way, I’m going to be Jo, right?’ And she was like, ‘I guess, sure.” For Chalamet, meanwhile, he said Gerwig simply asked him to play Laurie, but while he was shooting “The King” in Budapest (and also while he was “chasing” “Dune,” having already “met with Denis [Villeneuve] a couple of times”).
During the shoot for “Little Women,” Chalamet recalls getting a vital lesson in timekeeping from Ronan. Promoting “Beautiful Boy” — “which was basically the second ‘biggish’ movie that I was in” — around the same time, he got caught up in his trailer on the phone arranging tour dates, meaning he was late to get to the hair and makeup and was holding the production back.
“I was on the phone trying to do this thing, and I get this bang on my trailer door, like really intensely so I was thinking someone had died,” he said. “And I opened the door and there was Saoirse in a bald cap and she was like ‘get your fucking ass to the trailer right now.'”

Been wondering, how lovebug would affect aroace characters 🤔
Yea both aromantism and asexuality are spectrums, so I guess lovebug could strengthen for some romantic or sexual attraction or make them feel it more often. Or their aroaceness could be a shield that make them harder to get infected.
But, what about someone who have zero for both. Would they be completely immune, or would love bug just completely mess up with them and make them feel things they have never experienced and cause some internal crisis.
Or it would make them the best rizzer, who make lovebug spread to more people. Kinda like a villian with a curse that they tamed for their own use. Chaos and all that jazz.
O! O! Or lovebug that is developing and acting similar as hanahaki disease! But with different stages if development, and outcomes if not treated. Some that went mad, some that died and a very small group that for unknown reason transforms into hideous monsters with new powers.
Like for example, let's slap aroace Employee 432 who has no romantic and no sexual attraction. Unknowingly infected with lovebug and completely confused and scared by the new feelings that came out of nowhere they slowly went mad. As madness mushed their brain, they slowly and painfully started changing on the outside just to one day become something completely different. And when clarity finally came back, aftaid of destroying The Parable they had found a way to hide in the settings, thus becoming The Setting Person aka TimeKeeper.
Aaaand i will stop myself here cuz if I yap about it more I would sound like a mad man ⊂(・▽・⊂)
