~ Summary: Summer vacation was right around the corner. Being in a program that required you at the beach every day was a big pro. After seeing Jeon Jungkook at the same beach as you everything was ruined. Jungkook was the school’s heartthrob. Girls throwing themselves at him left and right, going to parties every other day, and coming in and out of those parties with different girls. Not to mention he’s the biggest dick you’ve ever met. Avoiding him was in your best interest. His being there threw avoiding him out the window. Summer can’t be that bad. Right?

For the past thirty minutes you sat staring at your suitcase still trying to figure out what the hell to pack for the next months. The program that you joined had asked everyone if they wanted to go on a trip for extra credit to work for the beach down by Busan for junior year. Not that you needed it, you had zero plans made for this summer.
Niki’s out of town visiting her family for the summer and Sohee’s out doing what Sohee does, probably out exploring abandoned places or getting high somewhere. Who knows? You decided to get up and start packing. You walked over to your closet to skim over your outfits and carefully picked out a few outfits for the next few months. After two hours of packing, your phone dings with a notification from Niki
Niki: omg can’t believe it’s summer already! have fun on your little trip down to Busan. If anything happens call or text me right away! Luv ya!
You smile down at your phone. You and Niki have been friends for years, you first met in your freshman year of high school. She taught you everything, from how to do your make-up and style your clothes and all that fun stuff. Funny how you both got into the same college and ended up sharing the same dorm. She’s gone around the campus having different guys in and out. You would say you guys are complete opposites. You would rather stay in and watch a movie or something instead of going out and partying with drunk college students and grinding my body against sweaty skin.
After finishing up the last of your packing you respond.
Me: heyyy, omg I know! The school year went by so fast, say hi to your mom n dad for me and give Nani kisses for me! And of course, you’ll always be the first to know everything! Luv u too! Enjoy your summer ♡
Putting your phone down, you check when you are supposed to leave and meet everyone at the train station. The ticket said 8:00 am. You set your alarm for tomorrow and get ready for bed. Checking your phone for the last time you turn the lights off and drift off to dreamland.

Waking up to your alarm clock blaring in your ear. It’s near 6:00 am, you get up and start getting ready. Walking into the bathroom you bring out your skin care routine. After finishing up and brushing your teeth, you go back to where your vanity is and start with your makeup.
Choosing what to wear was easy, you chose a simple outfit. An oversized black hoodie, black parachute cargos, and white gamma forces. You come out of your room to the living room and take your bag off the counter and get the rest of the bags for the trip. The drive to the train station took longer than expected. Traffic was horrible. The ride was said to be only about 30 minutes, you ended up getting there about an hour later.
After blasting music on the way there you had finally arrived, you see a few of your classmates from previous classes and walk up to say hi. “Yunjin!” You shouted her name, catching her attention.
She waves at you and starts making her way over. “Oh my god hey girl!” She goes in for a hug and starts talking about the next two months. “This is so exciting! I’ve been waiting for this trip for so long, I hope we get free time because I’m too exhausted from all those tests.” She says with low shoulders. Out of nowhere she gasps and turns to you “You’ll never fucking guess who I just saw” You look at her with a curious face “Who?” she leans in closer “Jeon Jungkook”. Your face had gone red. Hearing Jungkook’s name coming out of her mouth left you shocked. Not forgetting the history, you and the boy had.
It all started in junior high in the 7th grade. You had finished your final tests of the year, and the scores were finally out for everyone to see. As you walked up to the board, expecting to read your name first as it always is on top of the board. Standing behind a tall boy with dark raven hair you moved to the side to peek at the score you had got.
Before you could even take a glance at the highest score the boy yells close to your ear. He jumps in the air and says “LETS FUCKING GO” he turns around and notices you, he looks you in the eye before walking away. You go up to the board and look for your name. Right above your name is Jeon Jungkook.
You couldn’t believe your eyes that he out of all people managed to score above you. You glare at him and say “Hey! Did you cheat?! There’s no way you have the highest score after me when you couldn’t even place last year!” He scoffs at you and looks at you with narrowed eyes “I’ve earned that spot being last doesn’t feel good right? Stop being such a conceited bitch and learn how to share the board. Accept you're not the smartest in the school” he snares and walks away. You had felt a surge of anger towards that day and couldn’t stand to be around him for the rest of your life. You promised yourself to avoid any contact with Jeon Jungkook and to make sure he never topped you again.
After staring at him for atleast five minutes you snap out of your thoughts. Looking over at Yunjin you say “What is he doing here? I’ve never seen him attend any of the meetings or give any interest in the program” she looks back at you after looking at him “Yeah, he and Yuno are close friends. I guess he brought it up to him and took it upon himself to ask Jungkook to the trip” she shrugs. You glance over at him again and see him talking to Yuno. You never noticed his pretty features. You hadn't seen him since you bumped into him at the café all those months ago. His hair got longer, he has more piercings, and a lot more tattoos on his right arm. Has he always looked this good?
No, thinking like this is wrong. You needed to remember all the cruel names he called you. You decided to look away after hearing the announcements on the speaker. “Train number 7 now boarding.” is heard. Going to grab your things a hand is placed on top of one of yours. You look up and you're met with those same eyes that looked at you with hate.
“You need help with that?” he smiles at you “No thanks I got it”. You quickly take the bag from his hand and board the train. Luckily, you had moved quickly enough so you could get a shared booth with Yunjin. You place your bags in the overhead compartment and get settled. It would take you about 3 hours to get there. Now settled in your seat you lay back with your head resting on the head rest and blast your music. Just as you became relaxed you felt your hoodie become wet with liquid.
“Oh shit, my bad” he says
You look up at the voice. Of course, it’s him. Jungkook looks up at you and rolls his eyes.
“Nice going dumbass” you say under your breath.
Yunjin grabs tissue from her purse to help and says “God, what the hell is his problem? He really had the audacity to walk away and not even apologies.” she said.
After heading to the washroom and putting on an extra T-shirt you had in your bag you walk back to your seat but not before you look up to see Jungkook, watching as you walk past him, you turn your head forward and sit back into your seat. This is going to be a long ride.

Arriving at the dorms was a hassle. Taking everyone's stuff off the train was a breeze but sorting everybody into two buses was more difficult than it should have been. Surprisingly enough you and Yunjin ended up sharing a bigger dorm with two other girls, Irene and Jini. You and Irene shared the same economics class and Jini had recently signed up for this program.
You walked around the building and noticed a pool and a hot tub placed in the back. The kitchen area was big enough for atleast fifteen people. Walking back to the common area, everyone went their own ways into their rooms and decided to meet up around one for lunch. After opening the door to your home for the next two months, you were met with the most beautiful window view. Looking out to the beach you could see the waves crashing against the shore and people enjoying their time with their families and loved ones.
After taking in the view, you walked over to your bag to pick an outfit out for lunch. You lift up one of the outfits you had picked out while packing. Touching up your makeup and getting your shoes on, you all leave to head down to meet everyone in the common area. As you walked out of your dorm, you were (yet again) met with the sight of Jungkook as you looked at each other. His dorm is right across from yours. Great! You had thought, this summer couldn’t get any worse. He looks at you up and down, smirks and walks away.

You walk down the stairs to see a few people waiting. As you were waiting, you met up with Irene and Jini, Yunjin was still getting ready as were a few other people. Looking around the room you catch Jungkook taking a glimpse of you with his hands in his pockets. He wore a fitted T-shirt with his arm full of tattoos on display along with cargo pants. You make eye contact with him for several seconds before looking away to find Yunjin.
Finally, everyone in count went into separate cars and explored what the city had in store for them. Busan was a big city; there was so much to do. An option you had was to look around for places you could eat at while you spent your time there. You decided to walk around and look at the stores. A small old lady had her hand out waving you over to her stand. “I have a beautiful bracelet that has your name written all over it,” she said.
“It’s really pretty but I'm not looking to buy anything right now” you kindly declined her offer
“Please have it for free, it compliments you so well” she raises her hand with the bracelet
It was decorated in white shells and blue starfish charms. You took the bracelet from her hand, and you thanked her. Finished figuring out where to settle you chose a restaurant that wasn’t far from where the car was parked.
Finding a table wasn’t difficult. The place wasn’t packed besides a few of the other students that chose the same spot were empty. The empty space was filled with the noise of the bell at the top of the door, you look up to see where the noise had come from and that’s when you see Jungkook. He stood there with Yuno and the rest of his other friends. He goes to sit at a table near yours.
You made eye contact, and he scoffed. You roll your eyes at him, and he speaks up
“Are you following me or something? You seem to be everywhere I am.”
You glare at him “Are you sure it's not the opposite? Every time I look up you happen to be where I am every single time”
He looks at you like you're mental “I think someone’s a little stalker we chose this place before you guys walked in” he sneered at you.
You look up to him and cross your arms, “I think the one obsessed is you, every damn time I look up there you are literally staring into my soul, what the fuck is your problem.”
“No problem here like you said I just happen to be here when you are” he shrugs
“Asshole” you mumble
Walking back to your table you feel his stare burning into the back of your head.
When you excuse yourself to the bathroom you couldn’t help but look up at Jungkook. He was laughing with his friends with his hands on his lap; manspreading. “God, damn it does he have to be so fine” You mumble under your breath
After freshening up you walk back to the table, and you see a girl next to him. She’s touching on his tattooed arm and giggling at what he said. You felt this weird sensation in your stomach. Was it jealousy? No way, but he can’t possibly be that funny she’s holding her stomach.
Walking back to the girls and sitting back down. Irene notices something off about your mood.
“Hey, are you okay?” Irene placed a hand on your back.
“You look a little red” You take your phone out to check your face. You needed to calm down.
“Oh, it’s just getting a little hot in here is all.” She gives you a soft smile and nods her head
After lunch was over, you decided to take a walk around the city to look around and find something to do to pass the time. Jini had found a photo booth near one of the stands selling handmade pictures “Guys!” she exclaimed “Let’s take some pictures!” Ten poses later, Yunjin found a bakery and got something to snack on while you looked around. After waiting for Yunjin and Jini you all decided to hang out and look at the scenery.

Walking back to the dorms it was sunset hour. The walk back to the dorms was breathtaking. The sun was setting low over the horizon, and the sounds of the waves crashing were soothing. When you got back to the dorms everyone filed to their rooms to relax and figure out the plan for what to do for dinner. You ended up texting Niki and telling her about today.
Me: Omg Niki, today was our first day of the beach program. We went out and explored Busan. It’s so beautiful over here I wish you could see for yourself.
Me: But you’ll never guess who I’m spending the next two months with
I wait for her to respond. It only takes a couple seconds until I see the three grey dots pop up on my screen.
Niki: Aww I miss you so much we should take a girl's trip soon! But pleaseeee tell me it’s not who I think it is
Me: Jeon Jungkook
Niki: NO YOURE LYING
You chuckle at her response
Me: I’m being serious
Niki: I thought he was stupid and didn’t show up to the meetings how did he know about this trip?
Me: Supposedly he’s friends with Yuno’s group and Yuno told him about the trip.
Waiting another few seconds until the three dots appear again.
Niki: Of course, he’s friends with them they all fuck around especially Jungkook
Me: You’re right, I should’ve known they were friends. Anyways I gotta get ready for dinner soon, I’ll update you if anything else happens.
This time she takes a few minutes
Niki: Alrighty! Enjoy your dinner and you BETTER tell me everything! I love you and stay safe!
You smile at her last text. Putting your phone down you start to get ready for tonight. The mentor wanted everyone to have dinner together so they could discuss the plans for tomorrow. Deciding to take a shower to wash off the sweat from today’s adventures and redo your makeup in a different style. You curled your hair and chose different shoes, deciding to go with low pumps to make walking around easier. The dress you had picked out was a simple little summer dress with small flowers decorated all over.

Walking downstairs you see Jungkook with Eunwoo talking. He’s cladded with a black blazer with a white shirt underneath paired with black dress pants and white shoes. In all honesty he looked handsome tonight. His hair is slicked back and he's wearing a chain around his neck with rings on his fingers.
As you make your way down the stairs, he looks up from Eunwoo to you. He looks back down and finishes his conversation with a smile.
“He looks like he’s about to eat you alive. I don’t blame him; you look so good” Yunjin says
You smile at her and compliment her back “Oh my God, are you kidding? You took my breath away the second you walked out of the room; I love your makeup” you say giggling. The mentor comes up and introduces himself when everyone seems to be present.
“Hello everyone, my name is Mr. Kwan I will be in charge of everything that goes on around here and I will be announcing our activities for the next month or so.”
You look around and your eyes land on Jungkook. He’s standing next to Yuno now with his arms crossed. He must have felt your stare because he turned his head towards you and then to the floor. You can make out a faint smirk on his lip. You look away with a confused expression and take your phone out to check if you have something on your face. Not seeing anything you shake it off and turn your attention to Mr. Kwan
“Tomorrow is when we start your tasks. I will assign each of you to a job and that’s the task you must do for that week, every other week each group will switch tasks. You will get to have a day off as a break. Do I make myself clear?” Mr. Kwan says.
There's a mix of yeses and head shakes. He takes out a clip board and tells us what to do next. “Okay, I have two boards with the list of names, please take turns finding your name on either one of these” He places them down on a table and asks, “Any questions?” One of the many students, Vernon, raised his hand and asked, “Can we go out after hours?”
“No, everyone should be in their rooms with lights off, no sneaking out or bringing outside guest” As you walk over to the beach cleanup board and find your name nowhere to be seen. Finally walking to lifeguard duty, there your name was. But right under it say. Jeon Jungkook.
This means you’d have to spend the next two months in the presence of Jungkook. Shaking your head, you turn around back to Yunjin to figure out what she had gotten. But instead, you're met with a firm chest. Looking up to meet the face of the person you see him; he has his hands on your elbows to stabilize me.
“Watch where you’re going.” he says with furrowed brows.
He lets go of you and walks over to the clip boards. You hear him chuckle.
“What’s so funny?” You asked him.
He turns around to face me and says, “I have to spend my days at the beach with you? For two months? I’m going to die if I even spend another minute with you.” he shakes his head pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Yeah, well I’m not so fond of you either Jeon. So, stop bitching about it, I’m not excited about it either” with that I roll my eyes and walk away.

At the restaurant everyone picked their own tables. You see Jungkook a few more tables down from where you’re sat, thank God. You took your seat next to Yunjin and talked about the events for the upcoming week.
“What did you get for this week?” I asked her.
“I have clean up duty. I heard the weather’s supposed to be nice so I’m not too worried” You clear your throat and sit up in your seat. “I have lifeguard duty and guess who I’m with.” You look over to Jungkook and he has a grin on his face with his arms crossed and his head tilted down.
“Oh no.” she says placing a hand on your arm
“I have to spend the next two months with him every single day. I don’t know how I’ll survive” you say rubbing your head.

Nearing the end of the dinner everyone gets up to leave and go back to the dorms. The restaurant was only a few minutes away, so some decided to walk. Those ‘some’ being you and your group, Jungkook and his, and a couple of other students. As you’re walking, you see Jungkook walking aside Yuno.
He has his hands in his pocket and he’s looking out at the beach. It looked beautiful tonight, the moon lit up the sand and the stars were beaming. Not looking at where you were stepping, you had tripped over your feet and waited to hit the floor. But you never made contact.
Instead, you feel a strong set of arms around your waist, and when you open your eyes; you see Jungkook looking down at you. You stayed still for a few seconds before he lifted you back up. His hold tight around you tight
“Be careful, idiot” he said before letting go
I stared at him. You had question why he didn’t just stand there and let you fall. He turned around to catch up with his friends and continued to walk back to the dorms like nothing happened

Back at the dorms everyone goes to their respected rooms and gets ready for bed. As Irene went to turn off the light, she heard a knock on the door. You get up from the bed and check to see who it is. When you open the door and you’re met with Jungkook and Yuno. Yuno speaks up and says, “Were going out, if you wanna join us you can.” Irene and Jini walk up to me
“Who’s at the door” Irene and Yuno meet eyes. He smiles at her.
“Um, were just gonna go out and hang, I was just saying that guys can come and join us if you want.”
“Uh yeah sure” she says.
“Alright, cool meet you guys down there in a few” You go to look up at him, but Jungkook had already had his eyes on you looking you up and down smiling. That’s when you realized you’re in a Hello Kitty pajama set. Looking down you quickly push past Irene and Jini.
Yunjin was fast asleep already, quietly making your way to the bathroom to get the stuff you need and change out of your clothes. You end up wearing a plain gray T-shirt with black baggy sweats
Finally done putting makeup on, only putting on some light foundation and lip gloss, you put on some white sneakers and start to head out with the girls. Closing the door softly, you walk out and see Jungkook with his arms crossed and back against the wall next to his door. He looks up and says, “Where are your Hello Kitty pajamas?” he chuckles. you stopped to glare at him and walk away. Before you could reach the first step, you felt his grip on my arm.
“Aren’t you scared were gonna get caught little miss goody two shoes” he raised his eyebrows.
“Go away, I’m only going out because YOUR friend invited us, and all my other friends are going out with you guys. I don’t want to be stuck in the dorm not doing anything.”
“And don’t judge my Hello Kitty pj’s I saw the big ass plush sitting on your bed when I went to go downstairs earlier”
He stops for a minute as he watches you ascend down the stairs. Hearing his loud footsteps following close behind you. Reaching the bottom of the stairs you see your friends waiting for you.
“What took you so long?” Jini asked
“Ask him” you point at Jungkook
“So where are we going?” you asked
“There’s a bonfire my friend is hosting. There’s gonna be so much we can do, I can’t stay in that tiny ass dorm all day” Yuno exclaimed. As you’re walking to the beach you feel someone walking next to you. Jungkook looks straight ahead as you make your way down to the bonfire. His hair is still damp from the shower he took, he’s wearing a gray crewneck with black shorts. His hands in his pocket he speaks up “Why are you on this trip?”
“I could be asking you the same thing. I haven’t seen you at a single meeting yet now all of a sudden, you’re interested?”
“Oh? So you pay attention to me now?” he looks down smiling
“No, it’s just that you never cared or even bothered listening to what anyone said about this program so now do you feel the need to participate in it?”
He looks everywhere but you.
“I don’t know, I heard someone was going to be here and decided fuck it and signed up.” he shrugs with his hands behind his back. You look up at him with a curious look on your face. As you were about to speak up you hear Yuno’s voice
“Yo, JK we could use a little help over here”
Jungkook looks back at you and says “Gotta go, don’t go tripping when I’m not here to catch you” he winks at you
He runs down to help the guys and you’re left confused.

Everyone was surrounded by the fire, drinking, and having a good time. Jungkook is across from where you’re sitting and he’s laughing about something his friend said. He looks up and meets your eyes and you quickly turn your head to look away. From the corner of your eye, Jungkook stands up to walk to the cooler next to him. He picks up a cool beer and makes his way over to you. He hands you the beer and sits next to you.
“How do you like it so far?” he asked
“Why are you being nice to me? You acted like you hated me the whole day” your eyebrows furrowed
“What are you talking about?”
“You know what it’s getting late, and I don’t have time to deal with you right now”
He stands up as the same time as you and grabs your arm “Wait”, you stop and look at him
“At least let me walk you back to the dorms”
Hesitantly agreeing, he lets go of your arm and you both make your way back to the rooms.

It’s the first day of your tasks. Everybody separates into different cars. The beach you’re working at is only a 30-minute drive. All the seats are taken except for the one next to the person you prayed you wouldn’t have to see until you got to the beach. Jungkook looked at you and looked down on his lap. You finally went to sit down next to him. You put your earphones in and blast your music so you wouldn’t have to hear him talk.
You wake up with your head heavy against something. When you open your eyes and feel Jungkook’s head on top of yours and your cheek against his shoulder. Immediately you raise your head –waking him up in the process- and hop out of the car.
Taking in a deep breath you walk over to the ledge of the hill the cars parked at and look over the edge. You close your eyes for a moment to take in the salty air of the sea. The wind is blowing your hair out of your face. Little did you know Jungkook was staring at you; admiring the way you looked so relaxed. After a few more seconds you turn your head and walk over to the car to grab your stuff
You already had your swimsuit on under an oversized T-shirt and some shorts. It was an open back black one piece you had bought the day prior to coming on the trip. You carry your bag down the sand but feel it lift off your shoulder. You look up and see Jungkook carry it all the way down to your stations.
“Okay everyone, listen up” Mr. Kwan yelled
“I have assigned everyone a partner to work with for the next week, please come up to me and tell me your name”
As you walk up to Mr. Kim you tell him your name and he tells you who he paired you with. Surprise again you’re with Jungkook. He calls him over and tells him what he told you. Jungkook looks down at you and you look up at him. He smirks and walks back to where he set your things. Following behind him you unpack your things.
You grab your sunscreen, squeeze a dollop into your hand, and you rub it all over your body; starting on your front. Jungkook stands next to you as he takes his shirt off, showing off his body. You stare up at him and admire him for just a second. He looks down and catches your eyes
“Are you staring at me?” he chuckled
Looking away quickly you say “No, I wasn’t”
“Sure, whatever you say, you need help with that?” he says as he points to you struggling to get your back.
“Yes, please” going to hand him the bottle he squeezed some on to his hand and moves your hair to the side. He glides his hand across the span of your back. He starts at your shoulders and works his way down to the middle of your back. His hands moving slowly, getting closer to your lower back.
You clear your throat, and his hands are to himself now. You lay your hair in it’s original spot and you stand to look at the beach full of people. It was only 9:00 in the morning yet the beach was packed. Walking over to your stand you climb the steps and take a seat. Jungkook walks over next to the stand, and he has a floaty in his hand. A couple of minutes pass by in silence before he speaks up.
“When do you want to switch spots?”
“When we see someone drowning”
He sighs and sits down.

After nearly an hour later a group of girls walk up to him, and they giggle as loud as they can staring at him. He looks up at the noise and stares at them. “Excuse me?” one of the girls says “Yes?” she extends her arm out “Do you mind taking a picture of us?” Jungkook grabs her phone and angles it. “One, two, three” he takes the picture. The girl reaches for her phone and pauses to look at him.
“Hey, are you free tonight?” she asked him
Watching the interaction between the two you roll your eyes. What you don’t notice is that Jungkook looks up at you and back down to the girl
“Uhm, no actually, I do have plans for tonight sorry.” He rejects her offers and hands her phone back to her.
She has a disappointed look on her face and a sad smile plastered on her face. “It’s okay, I hope you have a good rest of your day”. With that she walks away.
Now at the end of the day and the sun getting lower, you and Jungkook switched spots through half of it. Taking turns every so often. He would try to make small talk, but you always managed to find a way around it. He looks up at you and calls your name
“You wanna jump into the water real quick” he says as he watches you make your down from the booth.
“No thanks, I wasn’t planning on getting wet unless I needed to.”
“Oh c’mon just real fast. The weather is nice around this time” he begged
“Jungkook I sai-”
Before you can finish your sentence, your body is being carried over his shoulders. You throw soft punches at his back and yell at him.
“Jungkook put me down! I’m not playing with you right now!” you screamed in his ear.
He ignores you and laughs loudly. His feet meet the water, once he's deep enough into the ocean he plunges you till you're soaked.
Emerging from the water you pull your hands back over your hair. Jungkook stops and stares at you. Admiring your beauty, when you catch him staring, he doesn’t look away this time. This time he stares into your eyes. It’s that has to look away.
“What?” you said
“Nothing” he clears his throat and looks down at the water
“We should probably head back to the car. The sun is starting to set”
You nod quietly and make your way to the shore. After one last glance at Jungkook, you walk over your things.
The walk back to the car was silent. He offered to carry your bags for you. You had rejected his offers repeatedly, but he insisted on carrying them up the steep hill back up. The way back was anything but smooth. The road was bumpy which ended with you and Jungkook bumping arms after every bump, it was summer which meant humid air. Your skin is slick with sweat. Wishing you were back to the dorms so you could soak in the hot tub.

When everyone got back to the hotel Mr. Kwan let everyone roam freely. You decided to head upstairs to your room to relax before going to the backyard spot of the building. When you open the room, you’re met with Yunjin and Irene.
“God, the sun has me so exhausted I could crash right now.” you said as you lay on your bed, body spread into a star fish.
“I know, who knew the beach would be full of that much trash” Yunjin complained
“Atleast we get to switch off, so we feel as equally as drained” you told her
“Yeah, lifeguarding was so easy. All we did was sat there in the sun and waited for someone who needed help in the water” Irene added
“Well lucky you guys, I literally took laps around the whole beach and still managed to find a piece of trash in the place I was already in.” Yunjin rolled her eyes playfully
“Well if you guys aren’t tired, you wanna join me in the backyard area?”

After you close the door, you walk over to the other girls and ask them if they wanted to go out with you.

“I was thinking maybe we can go out today and we can hang out in the city. We haven’t been here in a while; I want to see if they changed anything.” 
This was Jungkook’s hometown. He basically knew everyone. When he finished cooking your breakfast you both sat together in comfortable silence and ate.  
Finishing up your meals, you volunteered to clean up the dishes, but he was persistent in doing them himself. After fighting for about ten minutes, you give up and walk upstairs to get ready for the day. The outfit you chose was perfect for the weather. Your makeup was simple, and your hair was casting down your shoulders. When you finish putting on your shoes you hear a knock on your door. 
Walking up to open it you see Jungkook wearing a big puffer jacket, white tank top, and light blue jeans. His hair slightly covers his eyes. The chain around his neck and his piercings does something to you. You look up at him and smile.  
“Hi” looking at him with stars in your eyes.  
You look so undeniably cute. With little bows in your hair and your soft cheeks looking at him. He looks down at you and leans in to peck you on the lips.  
“C’mon, let’s go”  
The weather today wasn’t as harsh as those other sunny bright days. It’s a bit colder than the last few weeks. It was a good thing you brought an extra jacket just in case. You cand Jungkook walk down the streets hand in hand. Looking around for the places you used to hang out at with your friends when you were still in grade school. 
When you found the –now small- playground you and Niki used to play at, you let go of Jungkook’s hand and ran to it.  
Gasping out loud you say “Oh god, it’s so much small than I remember. I haven’t been here in years.” amazed by how time flies by so quickly. Jungkook watches you with a fond smile as you reminisce on the old times. You sit down on the swings and gently swing your legs back and forth. Jungkook stands next to the swing as he watches you. The sun was shining on you and he looks at your eyes they’re glowing as you look down the sand with a smile on your face.  
He goes to stand in front of you and holds on to the chain and stops you from swinging. You look up at him when you see his shoes appear in front of you. His hands over yours and he leans in close to your face.  
His lips locking with yours in a soft kiss. He pulls back and he says “You’re so beautiful.” he places a hand on your cheek.  
He looks into your eyes and he makes a promise.  
Saying your name in a low voice he says “I promise you, I will to take care of you for as long as you let me. I promise I won’t hurt you. I promise to stay” 
You look up into his eyes with tears laying on your water line. Moving your head to lay on his forehead. 
Then, you pull him into a kiss.  
“I promise, I don’t hate you Jeon Jungkook”

I never considered myself a lucky man. Life had proven time and time again that no matter how many four leaf clovers I set out to search for, how many pennies on the ground faced heads up I stumbled across, luck was never on my side. I’ve learned to live with it, accepted my fate as the world’s smartest punching bag long before I was even in college.
But then I met her, and as cheesy as it sounds, I didn’t need luck that morning.
The second I woke up, the universe seemed to have it out for me specifically. I swung my legs over my bed, and in my half asleep daze stepped on my glasses, successfully breaking them. Unable to see on my short trip to the bathroom, I stubbed my toe… twice. Once I finally finished my morning routine more methodically, I walked out of my apartment only to bump into a stranger, sending the coffee she was holding all the both of us.
I had tried to apologize so many times, cutting my words short when they didn’t feel right. I had gotten through a series of “I’m, uh, oh, I, you,” before her smile interrupted my thought process, leaving me awestruck instead.
“That’s okay, but you owe me a coffee now.” She giggled, actually giggled, even with the scorching liquid causing her shirt to stick to her body. “Maybe… together?”
I didn’t hesitate to agree, taking her up on the offer that weekend and never looking back. Even when a loud crash, followed by a quiet, harsh ‘shit’ woke me up in a startle, there was no regret. Maybe just a little concern for my girlfriend who now that my eyes have adjusted to the darkness, can be seen holding her knee on the floor of our bedroom.
“Hey, I didn’t mean to wake you,” she whispered out, grabbing onto the dresser to stand straight again. Once she was on her feet, she came over to sit on the edge of our bed, immediately running her fingers through my hair. If I wasn’t so worried about her knee, I probably would’ve fell asleep again.
“Are you okay?” She giggled at my scratchy morning voice before nodding her head. It’s then I realized how the sun hasn’t even begun to rise, the room still pitchblack. “What are you doing up?”
“Getting ready to go to the city, sleepyhead,” she said as if it was the most obvious answer, but truthfully, it left me with more questions.
“At... 5 am?” I sat up, glancing at the alarm clock three times just to make sure I was reading it right. She may have always been a little strange, but usually at a reasonable hour.
At this, she stood up to continue getting ready for the very early morning. Now I notice why she fell, the piles of clothes leading to the closet had to have at least half of her outfits compiled together.
“Well, yeah. I want to get there before noon.” Even in my perplexed state, I rose from the bed and carefully tiptoed around haphazardly thrown clothes to reach her.
While wrapping my arms around her waist still hidden under my t-shirt, I questioned. “It’s right outside? You have 7 hours.”
She turned to look at me funny as if I wasn’t the one digging through clothes and waking up before dawn to walk literally 5 minutes to my desired location. My eyebrows must have subconsciously furrowed at one point, because she brought her hand up to stroke her thumb on my forehead. Immediately, I felt the tension melt, no longer caring to correct my confusion. She still did it anyway.
“Not DC, silly. New York!” I wish it were untrue, but my heart dropped at her words. She was leaving, going to a city I wasn’t familiar with beyond reading about, solving cases, and memorizing subway maps. Is this how she feels every time I board that jet?
“W-what? You’re just going to New York City?” I inwardly cringed at how desperate and sad I sounded, but I really didn’t want her to leave.
“Mhm,” she mumbled, turning back around to return digging in her closet.
“For how long?” Please change your mind. Please change your mind. Please change you-
Realizing that I was fully awake, she let out a boisterous laugh, allowing the way it bounced off our four little walls to return back to us. It was a sound most treasured. “I was hoping to get back around 9.”
“What?” I leaned back to look at her like she was absolutely preposterous. I mean, she was!
“Roadtrip!”
That’s how I found myself in the passenger seat of her car, no coffee in my hand because I wasn’t allowed until I have “a real cup of coffee.” Whatever the hell that means better happen soon, because as much as I loved watching the way she concentrates on the road in front of her, my eyes were starting to droop.
“It’s going to be another 4 hours. You can sleep, my love.” How she knew me so well, I will never be able to figure out, but I was out before we even made it across state borders.
That however, didn’t last very long. My girlfriend may be short and sweet, but behind the wheel? That’s a different story. The horn to her car is a very familiar sound when I’m jolted awake by a sudden stop.
“Really, asshole? Go!” She yelled, slamming her hand against the top of the steering wheel before looking over at me. “Hey, I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to wake you yet. I forgot how awful drivers are here.”
“Where is here exactly?” I questioned, sitting up from my slouched position to find cars practically on top of each other on a road not wide enough for two lanes.
“New Jersey. We’re 10 minutes away.” Wow, I didn’t realize I slept for that long, and I have to admit I’m a little surprised I wasn’t woken up sooner.
“How are we 10 minutes away? It’s at least another 30 to get to the tunnel.” Looking at our surroundings didn’t help me determine our exact location. To the left of us, there were dozens of graffiti murals on the side of what I assumed was another elevated highway. To the right, sidestreets with local businesses ranging from auto repair shops to fast food joints to gyms.
“Nuh uh, stop analyzing mister. You’ll know when we get there.” She waved a finger in my directions, putting a pin in my scrutinization. I pouted right back, successfully playing along to the theme of her scolding me like a 5 year old.
“I don’t like surprises you know.” It was the truth, but her contagious laughter that filled the car made me slightly less disinclined to stop asking questions.
“Oh I know, but trust me, you’ll like this one.” She went to go reach over to grab my hand from where it was resting in my lap, but stopped short and retracted in favor of slamming the horn. “Oh, come on!”

“So you drove to a train station... in New Jersey?” I asked while she was… attempting to park the car.
“Well, yeah. I’ve been taking this route since I was a little girl.” Once she finally figured out how to evenly space a two door convertible in a very spacious parking spot, she unbuckled her seatbelt, and was quick to grab her bag from the backseat. “Well, come on mister, we’re going to miss the train.”
To be quite honest, I have never been so lost in my life. I could probably pinpoint our exact location on a map if I wanted to, granted I was given any sort of information, but part of me didn’t want to. Scratch that, all of me didn’t want to, because my entire life has been planned out in front of me before, but right now, I get to be spontaneous with the most beautiful girl on the planet.
“Don’t let go of my hand,” she told me, lacing our fingers together and pulling me forward. “Don’t stop to look around, you will get pushed.”
We made it inside, and if I thought the DC transit system was bustling with people constantly, this place was so much worse. There were hallways left and right, all packed with people in a rush. It seems everybody had some place to be and zero time to get there.
“Upstairs.” We walked up two flights before reaching a platform, buying our tickets and making it just in time for a train to arrive. “I know they come every 8 minutes, but thank god we made this one,” she said as she sat down.
The cart we were in wasn’t too crowded, and once I finally found a map on the wall across from us, I saw that it was a direct ride to the World Trade Center.
“You said you took this train when you were little?”
“Yeah, I went to the city a lot as a kid. This was the easiest, and the cheapest way there.” A small smile played at her lips, obviously the product of some childhood memory. “I used to hop it.”
“Of course you did,” I laughed back with her, thinking about how an innocent looking child would be the first person to get away with sneaking onto the train.

“I said it before, I will say it again. Do not let go of my hand.” This time it was more stern, and if I were being honest, I would say that it got me the slightest bit nervous. She must have noticed, she always does, because she continued. “Don’t worry, it just gets congested and I don’t want to lose you.”
She was right about that, it indeed was very congested, but that was okay because she was holding my hand, and I would follow her just about anywhere if it meant she kept looking over her shoulder and smiling when she saw me. Once we made it across the way, and in front of heavy looking glass doors, she turned to me and started walking backwards.
“You okay? This is definitely not off to a great start.” She was wrong, it was off to a perfect start.
“Yeah, I’m okay, but you might want to watch where you’re going,” I said before her back hit the door.
“Please I can get here with my eyes closed.” And then we were outside, and all 5 of my senses were hit immediately. The sun was shining down on us, and before I could complain about not bringing my sunglasses, she handed them to me. My heart fluttered at the innocent act, taking the sunglasses with such gratitude even though she had already moved on to retrieve hers. “Do you smell that?” She asked.
“There are a lot of answers to that question,” I told her, not knowing if she was talking about the smell of the construction happening at the corner, the permanent garbage smell or something entirely different.
“The hotdogs, silly. Come on, there’s nothing like ‘em.” This time, I laced our fingers together, not because I was scared of losing her, I was, but I just really wanted to be closer to her. She didn’t mind, in fact, she let out a content hum and leaned her head on my arm as we walked to the stand.
“Can I get four hotdogs with sauerkraut and two grape sodas,” she asked the vendor, who politely nodded before moving on to prepare our food.
“You’re going to have a heart attack by 35,” I said as I nudged her with my shoulder. She gave me a small push back before answering.
“Is that a doctor’s diagnosis?” She asked as she took our now ready food into her hands, after paying the man before I even had time to blink. I just grabbed the two cans of soda and followed her where she was making a beeline for a park bench. “Watch out for skaters.”
“Yes, it is indeed a doctor's diagnosis.” I unwrapped one of the hotdogs before taking a bite. I closed my eyes and let out a content hum. “It may be a little worth it.”
“Exactly.” We sat there quietly, enjoying the warm weather and sounds of wheels against pavement. At one point, she rested her head against my shoulder, and I am convinced wherever she went would be Heaven.

“Are your eyes closed?” We found ourselves with both our hands interlocked, my eyes closed while she walked backwards. I gave an ‘mhm’ before she continued. “We’re here, just keep them closed, and…” her words trailed off. “Okay open.”
I opened my eyes to her holding her arms out in the middle of the largest bookstore I’ve ever seen. “Surprise!” My eyes were bouncing everywhere. It wasn’t too crowded, the large stairwell across the store catching my eye first. There were bookshelves tens of feet high, all loaded with different genres and authors. To the right of us, tiny knick knacks and pins and socks. It was beautiful.
“Wow,” I whispered out, still stuck in my place admiring our surroundings. She was beaming up at me, a hint of pride at her successfulness to drag me 6 hours away to the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.
“The Strand has always been my favorite place in the city. Come on, let’s go explore.” She grabbed my hands again, pulling me deeper into the store towards a shelf labeled adult fiction.

Six books, three pairs of socks and a postcard later, we were back on the busy streets of New York, aimlessly walking and admiring the tall buildings and different attractions. Well she was, I was admiring the way she was looking around like it was her first time here. Maybe I should have been paying more attention to our surroundings, but no amount of skyscrapers or fountains could possibly ever match up to her level of beauty. 
“Have I ever told you how much I love you?” I asked randomly, startling her into jumping a tiny bit before giggling. She stopped us, turning to face me fully before reaching up to grab my face in her hands.
“Once or twice.” The kiss we shared on the New York streets were no different than the ones before, but this time, it felt like a silent promise. A passing between two lovers that no matter where we are, our love is the most beautiful thing there is. “I love you too, dork.”

"Let Me Explain"

I was unbelievably excited for this date. Ian and I had been talking for months, and finally, we had decided it was time to go on an actual date. He finally had a day off in Chicago and was free to meet for dinner. I had spent the whole day making sure I would look perfect and that the date would be good.
It had started to rain on the walk to the restaurant we were meeting at, but there was nothing in the world that could stop how happy I was. I was practically skipping as I rounded the corner through the doorway of the restaurant. Scanning with a smile, I looked around at the bar to the left of the door since that's where Ian told me he'd be.
My smile and my stomach dropped as I saw him talking to a woman. They stood close, much closer than two people that had just met. He was laughing and smiling at her as she was doing the same. He leaned on the bar with his arms crossed as she reached out, putting her hand on his arm. He smiled and blushed, dropping his head looking at her hand.
Tears welled in my eyes as my heart sank. I knew there was no way he wanted to date me. I took a shallow breath, trying to push the tears away as Ian looked up to see me. He froze and pushed her hand away, I turned back toward the door moving toward the exit.
He called my name as I pushed the door back open. It was pouring, and between the rain and the traffic noise, I couldn't hear if he was still calling. I trudged back toward my apartment. My night and mood were ruined; the rain-soaked my clothes as I turned each corner till I got there.
I was freezing; my hands shook as I pushed my key into my door, unlocking my place. Pulling my phone out of my water-logged jeans, my screen was full of calls and messages from Ian. I didn't bother even looking as I undressed, standing in my kitchen. I tossed all of my soaked clothes into the washer before getting into the shower.
The shower was more to heat myself back up than anything else. I sat on the tile floor, pulling my legs to my chest as the hot water cascaded down on my skin. My tears mixed with the water, and by the time I got out, my skin was red and burning, and I was numb. I dried off, combed my hair before pulling on some sweats, a sports bra, and falling into bed, exhausted.
Thankfully I had the next day off of work as I woke up a few hours after I got home, wide awake at 2 am. Pulling on socks, I padded through my apartment toward my phone that was on the kitchen counter.
It was dead, I sighed, moving to plug it in, letting it charge a little as I opened the fridge illuminating the kitchen with the bluish glow. I grabbed a bottle of water and a few cheese sticks looking over as my phone lit up. It charged a little, leaving me to lean on the counter next to it to use it.
There were 15 texts from Ian and a few missed calls. I shook my head, starting to read through the messages.
"That wasn't what it looked like"
"She is someone I used to work with, and we ran into each other while I was waiting for you."
"Where did you go?"
"Come on; it's pouring. Let me come get you so I can explain."
"I'm sorry, please let me explain."
The rest of them consisted of him apologizing or asking where I was or if I was okay. I read all of them; then I listened to his voicemails; they were all the same content as his texts. His voice brought tears back into my eyes. I didn't respond or call back. I had nothing to say. Making my way back to my room, I took my water and laid in bed in the silent, dark room.
I drifted off the sleep at some point and woke up to the sun coming in from my windows. I sat up, rubbing my hands over my face before pulling my hair up and sighing.
Ian POV
I went home after driving around for a few hours, looking for her. She never answered any of my calls or texts, and as I walked into my apartment, I realized how bad I had messed up. I kept checking my phone as I showered and went to bed. I laid awake for hours, practically praying to fall asleep as I repeatedly checked for her to either respond or post something on social media. She never did. Eventually, I fell asleep and was woken up by my alarm. A few of the guys and I had scheduled batting practice at the field, so I got dressed and left doing everything I could not to think about the night before.
When I got to the field, I left my phone in my locker, heading out onto the field, hoping to take all my emotions out on the ball. I set my bats down and found Anthony, Nico, Patrick, and Zack, who was in town for a few days.
"Fellas," I walked up.
"Hey, how did last night go?" Nico asked.
I had told the whole team about the date with the girl of my dreams.
"I um don't want to talk about it."
"What did she stand you up?" Anthony joked.
"No, I screwed up" I put my hands on my hips, looking at him.
"What happened?" Zack asked.
"I was waiting for her, and I ran into Taylor, and she was kinda flirting, and I was trying to be polite, and she walked in at the wrong time; I haven't heard from her since."
All of the guys were silent, looking between the ground and me.
"I fucked up potentially the best thing that could happen to me," I sighed.
The guys were about to start giving advice when our hitting coach showed up, and we got started. While Anthony was batting, Nico came over and stood next to me. Since there were five of us, we had a lot of time just to stand around and talk.
"You okay?" he asked.
"I have no idea. I fucked up, and I have no idea what to do."
He was quiet as we watched Anthony launch a homer toward the center. I took a few deep breaths as Nico looked over at me.
"Have you even talked to her?"
I shook my head.
"I called, and I texted, trying to get her to hear me out, but she hasn't called or texted back. I don't blame her either; I want her to hear me out."
Nico nodded as Patrick walked over.
"Buy her a ticket to tonight's game," he said, stopping in front of us. "Make it somewhere you'll be able to see her, and then have security get her and explain yourself. If she shows up, it means she's willing to hear you out at least; if not, let her go" Patrick looked between us as Nico nodded a few times.
"The man has a point"
After batting practice, I went to the front office and bought a ticket for a few rows up from the on-deck circle.
pov change
"Hey, it's Ian. I know I'm the last guy you want to hear from but, I got you a ticket for tonight's game if you want to come. It's at the main entrance, and all you have to tell them is your name. I want to see you, and I want to have a chance to explain. I understand if you don't come, but I'd like it if you did"
I listened to his message twice from where I laid on my living room floor. I set my phone on my chest, sighing before looking at the clock. It was a night game, and it was already 4 o'clock. I forced myself to get up.
"You have to at least give him a chance," I whispered, heading for my bedroom. "If the explanation isn't good enough, at least you got a free baseball game." I chuckled sadly as I flicked the light on in my bathroom.
I washed my face, did some light makeup, and curled my unruly hair before pulling on a pair of black jeans, a real bra with a tank top. With the base of the outfit started, I walked to my closet. I knew it wasn't warm out, so instead of a jersey, I opted for a Cubs sweatshirt. I added my grey Vans before collecting my things.
I had an hour to get to the field as I got into a cab. I sighed, debating my choice as the cabbie pulled away from the curb. Resting my head back, I looked out the window, watching the city pass on the way to the stadium.
"You okay back there, honey?" The cabbie asked, breaking me out of the nothing box I had gone to in my head.
"Um yeah, I'm fine," I answered politely.
"Come on, you're going to the Cubs game; try and cheer up a little," He tried.
I offered a fake smile and was quiet the rest of the ride. I thanked him and paid as I got out, joining the crowds on the street filing toward the historic stadium. When I got to the main entrance, I found a lady that worked there and approached her with the same fake smile I used in the cab.
"Hi, I'm so sorry, one of the players left me a ticket, and I have no idea where to go to get it," I stated.
"Oh honey, come with me."
She put her hand on my shoulder, leading me back through a few entrances to the inside of the stadium.
"You must be the one," she said with a smile.
"Yes, ma'am," I said with a smile.
"Well, you are good to go," she handed me a ticket with my seat number on it. "If you wanna just head out that door right there, you'll be on the concourse, and you can find your seat from there," She said with a sweet smile.
"Thank you," I said politely, walking out the door she had pointed at.
I got a beer before using the numbers on my ticket to find my seat and settle in. The first pitch was only a few minutes away as I did what I could to prepare myself for seeing Ian again.
Ian POV
"Have you checked to see if she's here?" Nico asked as we stood next to each other in the dugout.
I shook my head, biting the inside of my cheeks.
"I don't want to. I think it's going to be bad either way."
Nico pat my back a few times before walking away. I took a few deep breaths before grabbing my glove and running out onto the field with the rest of the guys. I made sure I didn't look at the seat I'd gotten as I made my way out to centerfield, knowing I would be too far away to see her.
I was the third in the lineup that night, so no matter what happened, I would see her in the first. Pushing the thought of her out of my head, I focused on the inning at hand. All of the outs were on the infield, leaving the outfield just standing there.
We all ran back in, switching out gear as Joc headed to the box. I hid in the dugout while Joc singled to deep left. Kris was on deck, and I stayed in the dugout as long as I could before making my way to the on-deck circle. Pouring over my bat, I looked for any imperfections that could take me back into the dugout. It took some searching, but I found a crack in the barrel and headed back to grab a different bat. Nico came to stand next to me as I reached for one.
"She's here," He said.
I took a deep breath holding it in my chest for a second. Choosing not to respond, I headed back for the on-deck circle standing there as Kris got a single to left-center. My music hit, and I walked over to the batter's box, taking a deep breath before glancing at her seat.
We made eye contact; she held a beer and offered a half-smile at me as I set up with runners at the corners and no outs. I focused on the at-bat and took two pitches down the middle before stepping out and adjusting my gloves.
I took the next pitch deep, basketball out in right field. Rounding the bases, I kept my head down; as I crossed the plate, I tipped my helmet, then high-fived the guys as we ran back toward the dugout. I glanced up, seeing her clapping and smiling. She seemed happy, which was a massive weight off my chest. I walked through the dugout celebrating and putting my gear away before taking a seat on the bench; Nico and Patrick joined me.
"You talked to security yet?" Nico asked.
I shook my head, watching Willson get a base hit. Patrick stood up, looking over at where she was sitting.
"She's still here, Ian; you gotta talk to security before she clears out" He sat back down. I got up, walking down the hall toward the head of the security desk, stopping in front of the desk.
"Hi, Ian," One of the guys said.
"Hey, I was wondering if you could do me a favor" I leaned on the desk.
"Name it"
"There's a girl I need you to get before the game ends and bring her to the clubhouse."
He nodded.
"Of course"
I gave him the information he needed then headed back to the dugout. I sat back down between Nico and Patrick.
"Got it taken care of," I sighed. "Do you think I should get her something to eat or anything?"
Patrick shrugged.
"She already has a beer, so it depends on what she likes for ballpark food."
"I know she likes pretzels and stuff."
Patrick nodded.
POV change
Settling in after the inning, I watched the other team bat as I took in the ballpark atmosphere. After two outs, a few people were walking up and down the aisle next to me; I moved to stand before I felt a hand on my shoulder.
He was wearing a locker room attendant shirt showing he worked for the organization.
I was confused.
"Ian sent these" he smiled, handing me a giant soft pretzel and a second beer.
"Oh, thank you," I smiled, taking them settling back in, getting looks from a few of the people sitting around me.
The next few innings were filled with baserunners for each; by the top of eight, the Cubs were up 8-2. I had finished my pretzel and both beers and had gotten a bottle of water, watching Patrick Wisdom walk up to the box. I moved as a few people filed in and out of the row before security appeared next to me.
"Ms.?" He asked.
"How can I help you?"
"Would you mind coming with me?" He asked.
I shook my head, knowing what this was about. Standing up, I moved out of the row, following the security guard up the stairs and through the stadium. He led me through the common areas before we took a few turns heading deeper into the stadium. The tunnels under were a maze; I had no idea how everyone didn't get lost. I made sure to follow close to security before we stopped near the clubhouse. There was a small couch with a tv in the hallway near the entrance.
"You can wait here; I'm sure you know who asked us to get you," he chuckled as I moved to sit down.
I nodded, smiling, setting my water at my feet.
"They should be down soon, and Ian knows you're here, and he'll come find you."
"Thank you"
"Do you need anything else, or do you need someone to stay?" He asked.
I shook my head with a smile.
"I'm fine, thank you."
"Have a good night," He said with a smile before walking away.
"You too"
I sat back on the couch watching the last few outs of the game and then watched the guys celebrate on their way off the field. It was a few minutes between when they got off the field and heard them come down the stairs and file into the club house. I listened to a few voices I recognized as I stared at the corner waiting for Ian to come around. I stood up, hearing his voice grabbing my water bottle. He came around the corner, looking at me.
"Hi," He said.
"Hey," I walked around toward him.
"Thanks for coming"
I nodded a few times.
"Look, I wanted to explain," He started.
I shook my head.
"I don't need you to explain anything, Ian. I took some time to think, and I don't know if we would have ever worked. With who you are and who I am, we have different lives, Ian."
He nodded.
"The first few weeks we talked, I started bragging about you," He explained. "To the guys in the clubhouse to Dakota and Zack to everyone, even my mom," he chuckled, leaning on the wall. "The guys started calling you the dream girl."
I chuckled, shaking my head.
"I don't know about that."
"I do" Ian looked up at me. "They were right."
I swallowed hard, looking at him.
"I understand why you think what you do and why you feel how you do. But I just want a second chance. I don't want to force your decision right now, so take a few days, a few weeks if you need, and I'll wait to hear from you. I want to have this conversation in person, so I'll text you my address and then wait for you to reach out; leave it all up to you since you know what I want."
I nodded a few times, taking a deep breath.
"Okay"
Ian nodded with me.
"Just take your time, okay."
"I'll see you soon, Ian" I smiled as I started to leave the tunnel.
"Do you need someone to walk you out, or do I need to get you a cab?" He called after me.
"No, I'm okay; I remember how to get out of here."
I kept walking till I got outside the stadium heading down Addison heading for my apartment. I walked for a few blocks thinking through everything Ian said and everything I had felt since I saw him with someone else. I called a cab and caught a ride home while my mind spun.
The next few days, Ian and I didn't tal. He sent me his address the night of the game, but we had no contact since then. My days were dull; I had gotten so used to his texts and his little check-ins, not having them felt weird.
It was four days without talking to Ian and at four in the morning when I made my decision. Getting up, I pulled on a pair of jeans with a sweatshirt, pulling on a pair of vans. I grabbed my phone and a bomber jacket on my way out the door. I found Ian's address and put it in the maps on my phone. His place wasn't far, but it was still a good walking distance, and as I climbed the stairs toward his place, I wasn't sure if I should have waited till a more appropriate time.
Licking my teeth, I knocked on his door then stepped back. It was a few minutes of me standing there when I started to debate coming back in a few hours. Just as I was about to walk away, the lock clicked, and the door swung open.
Ian stood on the other side in a pair of underwear and a t-shirt he just put on. His hair was a curly mess. I smiled as he blinked hard.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked.
"I made my choice," I breathed.
Ian nodded and stepped out of the doorway, silently inviting me in. I walked in, looking around at his place; it was just like I had imagined. Turning, I watched Ian close the door and take a few steps toward me, crossing his arms.
"The last few days have been weird. You are not checking in on me, making sure I'm taking care of myself."
Ian nodded.
"I've missed it, and I missed you a lot. I think I want to try and make this work."
"Do you want me to explain?" he asked.
I nodded slowly.
"She's a co-worker, she works on the field doing sideline stuff, she had a few too many and was flirting with me. I was trying to be polite, and you walked in at the wrong time."
I took a few steps forward, getting on my tippy toes. I put my hand on the side of Ian's face pushing my lips to his.
Ian grabbed my hips, pulling me against him, kissing back softly. His lips were soft and full; I kissed a few more times before settling back on my feet.
"Let's make it work," he said.

Jin was awake that morning, he'd heard your alarm going off and decided to get up with you but you hadn't heard him and went straight into the bathroom. He was going to go and cuddle you from behind but he heard you crying on the phone to someone and he frowned to himself, he had no idea you were upset over anything and wanted to know what was wrong. Raising his hand up to the door he went to knock when he heard a broken sob,
"I can't tell him, he'll think I don't want to be here. I love it but I miss you all so much." His hand lowered as he realised the time, you were probably talking to your parents back home in the Philippines since they were an hour behind you.
"I'm sorry, I'll call you later. Love you." You hung up and he heard the shower running so he grabbed his phone trying to plan something nice for you. He had no idea you'd been missing home so much or he would have done something before now. Last month you had a family wedding that you couldn't go to because you couldn't get the time off work and neither could Jin and now he felt awful.
When you'd first moved to Korea to be with Jin - your boyfriend  - you'd planned on going home at least three times a month just to spend time with your family. You had a large family and being without them felt strange to you but after the first couple of months of living in Korea, you and Jin were finding it harder and harder to get away and go home to the Philippines.
"You're up early." You said as you came out of the bathroom rubbing a towel on your hair to dry it,
"Yeah, me and the boys are doing some extra work today." He walked over to you and gave you a loving kiss, you smiled against his lips and he walked away telling you how much he loved you as he left.
"Bye! Love you too!" You called out, once the front door was shut you sighed and laid down on the bed staring up at the ceiling. It wasn't that you didn't love living in Korea because you did, living with your boyfriend the one you loved every day was the best but nothing could compare to being at home with your family.

"You're sure she has no idea about this?" Namjoon asked as they worked around the small lounge in the BigHit building they'd pushed the sofa back against the wall and replaced the giant photo of Jimin on the wall with a giant photo of you and Jin instead.
"I still don't like that I've been replaced," Jimin mumbled as he and Taehyung laid a table cloth over the table they'd brought in, they were in charge of laying the table while Namjoon and Jin were in charge of cleaning up and ordering the boys around. Yoongi and Jungkook were decorating the rest of the room with photographs of you and your family that your mother had sent Jin and Hoseok was waiting for you outside the building. You'd finished work early and Jin's plan was going great, he was inviting you over for dinner - which normally would mean take out in the studio with the rest of the boys but tonight was different. He'd spent all morning cooking traditional Filipino meals with a dessert, he wanted to make sure tonight was perfect for you. It wasn't the best solution for you feeling homesick but it was something to do until he could surprise you with the second half of the night.
"Hoseok? I thought Jin was meeting me." You pulled your bag over your shoulder as you walked over to Hobi who was smiling at you, he'd never been good at hiding things but he was doing his best right now.
"He's just a little busy so I'll walk you up, how was work?" He questioned as you both walked into the building together. You sighed thinking about your day, it was only half a day but it had been one of the longest days of your life.
"Awful, I swear if I have to hear one more Karen complain to me that her coffee has been made wrong I might jam and spoon in my ear." You laughed along with what you were saying, you loved your job but somedays it did just do your head in.
"I'm glad we don't have to deal with that." You smiled as you stepped into the elevator together he was being unusually quiet for Hoseok and it made you think that something was going on instantly. Then when you got off on the fourth floor instead of the sixth you knew something was happening,
"Right this way Ma'am." Yoongi said as he stood in front of the lounge door in a suit and tie, you smiled at him and walked through the door. The lights were all off and the room was lit up by candles, there was a table in the middle of the room covered in a white table cloth with two plates sitting opposite one another.
"Jin?" You questioned watching as he came in from another door holding a bouquet of your favourite flowers, you started tearing up when he walked over to you and pulled you into a hug taking your bag from your shoulder and setting it down on the sofa.
"What's all this for? Did I forget our anniversary?!" You panicked thinking the worst but he started laughing and shaking his head at you.
"Can't I do something nice for you?" You relaxed and he sat you down at the table pouring you a drink before sitting across from you.
"How was work?"
"Stressful, how was work for you?" You asked not wanting to get into your day and ruin the evening,
"This was my day." The door opened and Jimin walked in with Namjoon both of them dressed in black waistcoats and white shirts carrying a tray each.
"The first course," Namjoon said placing the tray down in front of you and removing the lid from the trays to reveal Seasame pork appetizers sitting there waiting. You breathed in the familiar scent and smiled, it smelt like home. Whenever your mother knew you were having a rough time she would make this as well as your favourite meal.
"You did this?" You questioned looking away from the meal to Jin who was starting to eat,
"I did, eat up. I have another surprise once we've finished eating." You held hands from across the table while finishing the appetizers.

"You didn't have to do all this." You were both laying on the sofa in the lounge, he was laying behind you drawing patterns into your arm and kissing your shoulder. You were both stuffed from all the food you'd eaten and you felt like you were going to slip into a food coma at any moment.
"I did, and the night isn't over. Wait here," He kissed your cheek and got out from behind you going over to the table again and taking something out from under his placemat.
"What's this?" You questioned as he handed you the envelope with nothing written on the front, he nodded for you to open it so you peeled it open and to reveal two plane tickets inside.
"They're one way?" You questioned looking at the tickets that had your hometown written across them for next weekend,
"We're going to spend as much time as you want there, I've already spoken to your boss and he's fine with this...Not that I gave him a choice." Silent tears rolled down your cheeks as you thought about going home to your family, spending time with everyone.
"I heard you on the phone this morning, why didn't you just tell me?" His hand was on your cheek wiping away tears from your face as you looked away from the tickets to his face.
"I didn't want you to think I don't love it here because I do, I adore it here but I just-"
"Miss your family, you could have told me." You sighed and nodding knowing that you should have gone to him first and it was silly for you not to.
"I promise next time I'll go to you if I feel homesick." You kissed him softly on the lips and then once more, putting the tickets down on the coffee table and kissing him more passionately this time.
"I love you." You whispered bringing him back onto the sofa next to you and sitting on his lap, he ran his hands through your hair and smiled against your lips.
"I love you too." He mumbled holding you closer to him and never wanting this to end but he knew that he would have to start cleaning up before someone walked into the room.
"Let me clean up and we'll head home." He kissed you once more before moving you from his lap and getting up to clean everything up. You followed behind him wanting to help him after everything he'd done for you tonight.

Of Birthdays And Binders
Ship: Agender!Aziraphale x Genderfluid!Crowley x FtM!Reader
Content Warning: Gender dysphoria, mention of transphobia, reader had been disowned and kicked out prior to the story (brief mention, but might as well throw it out there.)
Summary: His birthday, and only two people cared. Not even people, two beings cared. No people. Don’t question why a legal adult with his own apartment can’t afford a new binder...? Convenient plot device. This can be read as FtM OR masc!nb. I use he/him the whole time.

He woke up alone. Not only in the literal sense of being alone in bed, but no one had made any attempts to contact him. The street was unusually quiet too. It was like the one day where he wanted to be surrounded by people, he was…
Alone.
His second alarm rang, and he rolled himself off of his bed and onto his pile of plush pillows. His phone buzzed. Twice. Reaching for his phone, he yawned, expecting it to be a notification from Twitter or Instagram. So naturally, it wasn’t.
It was two texts.
‘Hello, darling! Happy birthday! I have a surprise for you, so if you could pop on by the bookshop at noon, that would be lovely. I love you, (y/n)!’ Azi’s texts never failed to make him wiggle with joy. They were full of gentle, affectionate words, oh so different from what he was accustomed to.
‘Someone told me it was my favorite baby goat’s birthday today. <3 So I figured I’d stop by in 30. You don’t need to do anything, just be in your flat. Love you, handsome ;)’ If someone walked up to (y/n) and said that the demon Crowley invented emoticons, he would believe it. Nonetheless, his texts were always flattering and made him feel appreciated.
He sent them both a heart emoji, and went to get dressed. Dressing didn’t really require much effort. He slept in his clothes, with the noteable exception of his old, beat up binder.
He had bought it in secret when he was sixteen years old. Had it shipped to his friend’s house, and paid for it with his birthday money. He almost got away with it, too, until his parents walked in on him washing it.
They were quick to start yelling at him. Calling him a sinner, a disgrace. They told him that if he was going to be a tranny, that he would do it far, far away from them.
So he packed his duffel bag, bought the cheapest ticket to London that he could find, and he left Massachusetts for good. Cut all ties with his blood relatives, and texted his friends goodbye.
Now, four years later, he had two loving boyfriends, and his life was getting back on track. Every weekday he worked a nine to five job at a diner, which paid just enough to pay rent, buy food, and pay his cell phone bill. He had some money set away for education, and medical expenses. But he still only had his old, beat up binder. It didn’t bind very well anymore, it was so stretched out. He couldn’t really afford to spend so much on one thing, no matter how happy it would make him. Money was tight, but what did he expect, being a high school dropout? He would give anything to have completed high school back in his hometown, but life didn’t work in his favor.
He sighed and shrugged it on, then pulled his oversized T-shirt back on. Five minutes until Crowley said he would arrive. Then, three knocks. Quick, sharp raps on the thin plaster door. (Y/n) rushed to open the door, and his boyfriend blew the birthday song on a tacky kazoo.
He laughed and opened the door wider so that the redhead could step in, playfully slapping his ass as he sauntered towards the couch.
“Happy birthday, hot stuff!” Crowley smirked, the pointed tips of his tongue showing slightly. He pulled out a small box. There was wrapping paper on it, but he could hardly call it wrapped. An attempt at wrapping was most likely made, but that’s really the extent of it. “I think you’re gonna like this.”
(Y/n)’s eyes softened. “Oh, you really didn’t have to.”
The look on Crowley’s fact could only be described as offended. “Oh, baby goat, I know I didn’t have to. But I wanted to. It’s your twentieth birthday, and the first birthday since we started dating. This is special. Now, take the box and open it, hm?”
He laughs and grabs the box, pulling it sharply and sending the demon flying into (y/n)’s arms. “I love you, my love.”
The tape was slowly peeled off, and the box flaps popped open. Inside was a full-tank, nude binder. In his size.
He stared in silent shock, eyes wide and teary. “Oh my God.” He pinched himself twice, before tackling his boyfriend into the old couch. He tenderly kissed the tip of his nose, smiling widely. “You got me a new binder. You actually got me a new binder. Oh my goodness.”
Crowley ruffled his hair affectionately. “Well? Go try it on!” His smile only got wider as (y/n) sprinted into the bathroom to put it on. After a couple minutes of silence, (y/n) yelled from the bathroom.
“Erm...sweetheart, darling, sweetcheeks, pretty boy, love, sexy ass, hottie, aha, erm…” he trailed off, and Crowley knew immediately that he had done something stupid. “How would you respond if I said I was stuck?”
Biting back a laugh, Crowley started walking towards the bathroom. “I’ll come help, hot stuff.”
He was indeed stuck in the new binder. It had been quite a long time since he had put on something so tight, and while he was euphoric, he had forgotten how difficult it was. Most of the binder was on properly, except for his arms. Somehow, he managed to get his arms stuck along his torso, and it was too tight for him to wiggle them out. Crowley’s face scrunched in a snicker that was met with an indignant pout.
“Oh poo, love.” He sticks his tongue out, and attempts to cross his arms (this doesn’t go well).
Crowley mock gasps. “So you don’t want my help?” Immediately, (y/n)’s eyes switch into a very persuasive puppy dog impression.
“Please?” He wriggles pathetically, in an attempt to invoke sympathy. “Pretty please?”
Crowley deadpans. “The physical appearance of the please has no effect on me.” But with a snap of his fingers, (y/n)’s arms were through the proper place, and he wasn’t stuck anymore.
Immediately, he ran up to the demon and tackled him. The twenty year old peppered his face with gentle pecks until he was breathless, finally pulling away to bury his head in Crowley’s shoulder. “Thank you, Crowley. Thank you so much.”
They spent the next couple hours cuddling on the couch, spooning with Crowley whispering sweet nothings to his boyfriend. Before they knew it, it was a few minutes to noon. Crowley pulled him up, and snapped his fingers. Instead of being in a small, musty flat, they were standing in an alleyway next to an even mustier bookshop.
A. Z. Fell & Co. Antiquarian and Unusual Books. Where his other darling boyfriend lived. As the clock struck noon, Crowley burst into the bookshelf and held the door open for his more timid boyfriend.
His eyes lit up when he saw a cake, and three mugs of cocoa. By no means was it small, in fact, it was the size of a traditional wedding cake. Large and extravagant. Aziraphale burst out of the back room and jogged over to his boyfriends. “Oh, happy birthday my darling boy!” He reached over (y/n)’s shoulder and pulled him into a tender hug and kiss on the top of the head. “Now come, else the cocoa will get cold.”
The three of them sat at the table. The angel pulled out a daintily wrapped, but rather large package. It was covered in a creamy white paper, and tied with little blue bows. Crowley nudged (y/n), prompting the boy to blush and tug the box from his boyfriend’s hand. “Gosh, you guys, you really shouldn’t have done all of this stuff.” He carefully untied all of the bows, and peeled the tape away. Everything was perfectly intact, except Crowley’s patience. “Honest, I don’t deserve any o-” (Y/n)’s eyes widened as Crowley leaned over and kissed the human until he had to pull away for air.
Wordlessly, the redhead poked the brown box, and his boyfriend got the message. He opened the box eagerly, and his eyes widened once again. Tears welled in his eyes and an infectious smile spread across his face. The box fell to the floor as a trans flag emerged.
Aziraphale’s eyes closed in a giddy giggle. “Look in the box again!” His bright eyes opened, and it was clear that watching (y/n) open gifts brought him joy. He did what he was told, picking the box up, only to drop it again.
“Oh, wow!” He cooed, awestruck. A hand-knit throw blanket, that doubled as a rainbow pride flag. “Oh, I love it! Did you-?”
Aziraphale cut him off with an excited hug. “Oh, I did hope that you would like it! I learned how to knit right before we began courting, and the day we, er, performed coitus, I knew exactly what to do!”
Crowley’s mouth dropped. “You didn’t use miracles? When you said you were going to make a blanket for him, I didn’t think you would spend a year making it.” Aziraphale blushed, and twiddled his thumbs. (Y/n) kissed both their cheeks lightly.
“I love you two, so much. I don’t deserve you, honestly.” He tugged them over to the plush couch and threw the blanket over the trio. Safe, warm, and happy. Just how life should be.

It’s so romantic in Paris Chapter 2
Demyx finished up breakfast and got himself ready to leave Axel's house, he idled in his friends hallway. “Are you sure you don't want me to come with you? To take down the pictures? To make sure he's gone? Whatever you need.” The blonde looked at the ceiling trying to fight back tears. I should try and handle this by myself... Tears spilled over his cheeks and Axel grabbed his coat. “That's it, I'm coming.” “I'm sorry Axel...” The redhead looked at his friend like he was insane. “You've just been cheated on and your relationship ended... You need support, there's no shame in that ok?” Axel handed him a tissue. “You ready?” Demyx took the tissue and nodded. “Okay.” He set the alarm on his house and locked the door. They arrived at Demyx's apartment complex by two o'clock, he looked visibly uncomfortable entering this building again. Remembering yesterday and how raw he had felt as he left. “I'm not sure... Axel maybe we should just go... What if he's up there with...” The redhead steered his friend towards the lift. “It's your home and while I get it's hard, you will have to return here at some point... Why should you be the one to run from your home? You did nothing wrong... And if he's up there with anyone he'll fucking regret it, I promise you that.” The lift dinged open and Axel walked inside. “Come on Demyx... It's going to be okay...” He walked into the lift after his friend. Floor after floor went by on the led screen, Demyx could feel his heart pounding as they got nearer to his one. “I'm not...” Axel put his hand on his friends shoulder. “You'll be okay... I'm here... Give me your keys I'll go and check it out first ok?” He nodded and handed Axel his keys. “I'm not going to let anything bad happen ok?” Demyx nodded tears flowing freely down his face. The doors dinged open at his floor and they stepped out of the lift, Demyx led Axel to his apartment. “You're going to wait here, and I'm going to go inside and check that everything is okay. Ok? Then I'll come get you and we'll go from there alright?” “Yeah... Ok...” Axel slid the key into the lock and opened the door. The curtains were all closed, so he flipped on a lightswitch and looked around the main room. It was a little messy, like Xigbar had left in a hurry but nothing was out of place otherwise. He stepped forward and heard something crunch underfoot, he lifted up his foot quickly to see a broken picture frame, a picture of the two of them during happier times. He picked up the frame and put it on the counter top and cleaned up the glass. Axel moved into their bedroom. This was a good bit messier, drawers were left open, their contents hastily taken out. It looked like they'd been robbed. I guess he took Demyx's warning seriously... Axel closed the drawers, and threw any stray clothing that looked like it belonged to Xigbar. There were bare patches on shelves, where Xigbar had pictures or possessions and had taken them away in a hurry. Axel checked what he presumed was Demyx's side of the closet, it looked untouched. He closed Xigbars side did a quick tidy up, took down any pictures he spotted of them together and closed the bedroom door. The redhead walked to the front door taking down pictures of them together, he piled them up and put them down next to their TV. He approached the front door and popped his head around. “Okay, all clear. You coming in?” Demyx took a deep breath and walked in, his breath hitched as he noticed all of their pictures were down, there were a lot of empty spaces where their things had stood side by side. He let himself fall onto his sofa and cry. They spent the day turning the place into a more 'Demyx-centric' haven. Moving furniture, dumping anything left of Xigbar's. Putting their photos away until Demyx had decided if he wanted to keep or dump them, Axel put them well up out of his reach so he couldn't just grab them in a moment of weakness. Finally Axel changed the bedsheets... He didn't feel it was right for Demyx to have to face possibly soiled bedsheets that his ex had fucked some stranger on. The redhead washed his hands as the washing machine whirred to life, getting rid of the last evidence that Xigbar had ever even lived there. Axel collasped down onto the couch next to Demyx. “You okay?” The blonde shook his head. “No... But I know it had to be done...” He laid his head on Axel's shoulder and the redhead put his arm around him resting his chin on Demyx's head. “It'll get easier... I promise...” He gently stroked his friends hair until he drifted off to sleep. Demyx awoke it was still dark outside. He checked his phone. 2 am... He gently woke Axel who'd fallen asleep sitting up. “Uhmmm?” He blinked awake. “Let's get to bed...” Axel too tired to argue, climbed into the bed beside Demyx and settled into a deep sleep. The blonde too was so emotionally and physically exhausted he fell straight into a comatose like sleep. Demyx awoke at 6 am the next morning, he looked over at Axel who was still dead to the world.   He relaxed back and stared at the ceiling, golden sunbeams spilled through the light curtains and danced across the wall with the light shift of the curtains in the light breeze. He thought about his drunken want to go to Paris, he got the flight details up on his phone, they were in a few days, he'd even booked a hotel, it looked big and luxurious. He knew work wouldn't have an issue with him taking some holidays off, especially after all of the overtime he'd been working. He groaned into his hands. It's so costly... But... I did only save that money for me and Xigbar... But what if... Are you going to take him back after catching him balls deep in another man? No... No I'm not... He looked at the ceiling again blinking drifting back towards sleep and whispered. “I guess I'm finally going to see Paris...” He hazed in and out of sleep for a few hours until Axel got up at 9 am. “Good morning sleepy head!” The redhead offered Demyx a cup coffee. “Oh thanks Axel.” He closed his eyes taking a sip. “Did you sleep ok?” The blonde nodded. “I think the last couple of days caught up with me, I pretty much fell unconscious. Good thing it happened on a weekend I guess...” Axel rolled his eyes. “Yes, how considerate of him...” Demyx took a deep breath. “...I'm gonna go to Paris...” The redhead open his eyes wide and grinned. “Seriously?” He ruffled his friends hair. “Way to go! You deserve a break after all this, and who knows...” He waggled his eyebrows and put on a terrible French accent. “What might happen in the most romantic city in the world!” Demyx shoved him. “Nothing. That's what will happen. I'm going to get over a guy... Not get under another one...” Axel grinned. “There's nothing to say that you can't do both.” Axel left before midday. “Now look you need anything, anything at all, you call me or text me. Okay?” Demyx nodded. “You have both sets of house keys?” He held them up. “You have the number of the local police station?” He nodded. “You know the number for 911?” He half nodded then rolled his eyes and smiled, Axel hugged him tightly. “You will be fine... Alright?” “Yeah... It's just gonna be hard...” “Be good, and if you need me for whatever just call or text alright?” “Yeah.” “Promise?” “I promise Axel.” “Good... I'll you soon.” The elevator dinged open and with that Axel was gone, Demyx took a deep breath and closed the door of his apartment behind him. The next few days went by in a haze... He just kind of fell through them like a mist, nothing felt quite real or normal, everything seemed to have a slightly dream like quality to it, like he wasn't quite there, wasn't quite present anywhere or in anything he did...   Work had given him two weeks off without question, he was 'well ahead of his workload' and 'seemed like he needed a break' they'd said, they had no idea. He drifted until he was standing at the departures gate with Axel when the fear of what he was about to do dragged him back into himself. “But how do I know I'm doing the right thing?” Axel shrugged. “You don't, but you're going somewhere you've always wanted to go... A beautiful city with new sights, sounds, smells, food and most importantly new people. You're not getting the cash back now. So why not just give it a shot and if you hate it that much, you can book an early flight home... I'll pick you up from here.” Demyx nodded. “You're right, I'm just nervous I guess. I just need to go.” Axel nodded and hugged his friend tightly, then he pulled back and looked in his eyes wiping away a stray tear.   “Now you're gonna go and have an amazing time and you're gonna come back with a tonne of amazing, scandalous stories to tell me, right?” He smiled at Axel. “I can try...” The redhead nodded. “You better go before you miss your flight. Be safe and I'll see you in arrivals when you arrive home ok?” Demyx nodded and waved at his friend. “See you in two weeks!” He took a deep breath scanned his ticket and stepped through the gate into departures. The airport was busy and buzzy with people. He made his way through security quickly and checked the screen for his gate. Gate number... 06Z... He double checked the gate and flight number against his ticket before walking in the direction of where his flight would be boarding. His thoughts were rushing like crazy as he walked. I wonder where Xigbar is Did he go and stay with the guy he was screwing Are they together How long was he seeing him behind my back Did he ever really love me...? He ran into the gents toilets and slammed the cubicle door closed, he sat on the lid of the toilet and took deep breaths. It doesn't matter... None of it matters because none of it was your fault. He continued to breathe and dabbed the tears from his eyes with a tissue. “I'm okay... I'm okay...” One more deep breath and he stood up and left the bathroom and continued on to his gate. They were already boarding by the time he joined the line. “Ticket and passport please?” Demyx handed them over. “Thank you!” He walked down the tunnel towards his plane feeling a mix of panic and excitement as the crowd slowly boarded. When it came to his turn the air hostess looked at his ticket and pulled the curtain open for him into first class. “Huh?” “You're first class sir, you'll find your seat on the left hand side at the very end of the cabin, have a nice flight!” Demyx grinned to himself as he walked through first class. I guess drunk me was feeling bougie... He settled into his big comfy seat, feeling pretty pleased with his decision when he was handed a complimentary glass of champagne and giggling to himself wondered how much he'd blown on this flight.

Home for Christmas (Part 3 of 4)
Summary: Every year Dan goes to a ballet performance of the Nutcracker around Christmas (he even starts to enjoy it after a while), but what he’s really waiting for is the nights he gets to spend with one of the lead dancers after the show.

Start at the beginning
As the new year crawled by Dan found himself tempted to google Phil’s name more and more with each passing day.
When university started back up after Christmas break and he found himself surrounded by the people who had to get used to seeing him without Rosie he caught himself just before pressing enter multiple times, erasing the words he’d typed and turning off his phone screen before he could change his mind again. He tried to avoid running into her, sometimes going as far as skipping dinner because she was sat in the kitchen, until he no longer felt his phone burning in his pocket watching her tending to her pans at the stove. Until he no longer had the pressing urge to get out of town every chance he got, visiting Eleanor on the weekly.

Final exams rolled in way too fast and left him feeling wholly unprepared. No matter how many study dates and trips to the library he set up, it never seemed to be enough. Law books were big and heavy, pulling on him with every step that brought him closer to the exam halls. Eleanor, whose exams didn’t start until the day after his, stayed with him and made him a full fry for breakfast the morning before his first test. It was her way of trying to offer her support when she knew that as a neurosciences student she was completely useless when it came to helping him study.
Although he liked to think he was fully over Rosie by May, it still gave him some sort of satisfaction when Eleanor gave a resolute “yes” to his ex’s polite “you alright?” as they sat at the kitchen table.
He wondered how she would greet Phil if she knew the ins and outs of their agreement. His phone lit up, signalling a new Snap from Davis.

Summer was a gift from god.
After missing their November weekend together Dan and Eleanor spent a whole week exploring Rome in early August, completely avoiding the topics of love lives and university and focusing on sunshine and gelato and the ancient history they were walking around in on their flipflops. They held hands the way they’d done in primary school, before they hit puberty and girls and boys weren’t supposed to do that kind of stuff anymore. Before they cared about what anyone thought of their relationship.
Dan neglected to mention to her that on the last night, when she went to the bathroom as they were having a couple of drinks at the hotel bar, an Irish boy slipped him a napkin with a string of numbers on it accompanied by the words, “if you’re not interested feel free to bin this, but otherwise, text me”. Dan shoved it in his pocket, where it stayed until he got back to his parents’ house in London and he unpacked his suitcase. He stood with the paper in his hand for a minute or so, and then another few minutes staring at the new contact in his phone.
Sat cross-legged on the bed he carefully crafted a message. As he was typing it took everything from his willpower not to close the app and go to google. To just type in that one name that he’d put into that bar so many times before. Instead, he resolutely tapped the ‘send’ button and then proceeded to put his phone under his pillow to leave it there for the next couple of hours.
When Nicholas replied he was almost surprised. They spent the next couple of weeks texting and although Dan had initially been sceptical, the more he learnt about Nick, the more he felt that there might be something and he might not need to be stuck on his Christmas dates for the rest of his life.
Nick was nice. Genuinely nice. He was a good listener, made jokes at the right time, and had an intricate knowledge of all kinds of animals as he was studying to become a vet. Dan found himself looking forward to the evenings when Nick got home from placement and the two of them could Skype call before they went to bed. Long nights were spent lying on his back on the carpet, feet propped up against the side of his desk, phone tucked comfortably between his shoulder and his ear. He could hear the Irish boy smile through the phone.
He liked Nick. He really did. But when in early October he asked him that dreaded question, “so, what are we?”, Dan couldn’t stop his fight or flight response from kicking in. Unsure of whether he feared commitment to a boy or commitment to anyone at all, he broke it off.
From there on, things went downhill. Fast.
One of the boys Dan lived with dropped out, meaning they had to either find a new flatmate or a new place, and the others’ half-hearted search for a house stressed him out. University was pulling on him like a ball on a chain and the words danced before his eyes on the nights he tried to catch up with the stacks of work accumulating on his desk. Eleanor’s ugly selfies sent over snapchat were only doing so much to put a smile on his face, their effects diminishing with every day.
Two weeks after Reuben had left, Dan sent in his student withdrawal form.
Three days later, he found the courage to tell his parents, sat on Eleanor’s bed with one hand in hers and the other hand clutching the phone held to his ear. Everything was falling apart, but the one constant he could always count on was his best friend always being right by his side.

Dan moved back home hesitantly. His old bedroom felt too small for him and his hometown was full of eyes watching him, knowing he didn’t belong there anymore.
What did he actually want to do with his life? He had no idea, really. His new job at an electronics shop was not it though, that was for damn sure. It had him drifting through the days, every week feeling like the last, endless and exhausting. To pass the time he messed around with the products when he got bored, feeling professional when he pressed buttons on the DJ sets knowing what they did, and adjusting camera lenses with expert eyes. In those moments he felt for a moment like he was on the right path, just not knowing where it would lead him yet.
In mid-December Dan used his first wages to buy one of those fancy cameras. He spent hours in his bedroom sat cross-legged on the floor adjusting settings and filming little test videos, the reality of his world forgotten for a precious while.
Four days before Christmas Dan planted the camera up on one of his book shelves, fixed his hair in the mirror for exactly two minutes longer than necessary, and then pressed the record button.
He filmed his first video in one go, with rambling tangents and awkward pauses to edit out later, which he did the day after, when he got home from work. He was tired. After a nine-hour day the last thing his eyes wanted to do was focus deeply on something for another couple of hours. One by one his family members went to bed, the sounds of their bedroom doors closing reaching Dan even through his headphones. In the morning, when his alarm would go off at half seven again, he’d hate himself for this, but that felt well worth it when he clicked ‘upload’ and watched the bar load up to a 100%. It was two in the morning when his first ever YouTube video went live.

Dan and Eleanor had bought tickets for the ballet in early December almost out of habit. There had been no discussing it, just Eleanor asking if he’d already bought them or if she should. On the day before Christmas Eve she picked him up in her car, blasting Mariah Carey so loud Dan could hear it the moment he stepped out the front door. She was wearing a beautiful silver dress and had her hair braided back so her elegant hoop earrings were clearly visible. He complimented her as he plopped down in the passenger seat of her Volkswagen.
He tried to play it cool, but it was difficult to do so when he’d been looking forward to this night for months. It felt on the verge of pathetic, but his monotonous job left him with plenty of headspace to contemplate all that could happen and might be in the future. He’d lived this day and the next dozens of times over in his head stood behind the counter smiling artificially at customers as he rang up their purchases.  
They knew their way around the theatre by now. They knew where to find the coat room, and the fact that it cost 50p per coat, and they knew the quickest route up to the balcony and the toilet closest to it. Dan ran his hands over the balustrade as they walked to their spots. The place was still fully lit, giving him a view of the seats and the stage below. Two little girls were on stage in front of the curtains, doing pirouettes and falling out of them with big grins decorating their little faces. He stood and watched them for a moment, until he felt Eleanor demonstratively lean over the railing next to him. “You excited?” She asked.
“Yeah, I guess.” He said without tearing his gaze away from the kids.
“Have you spoken to him at all since last year?”
Dan shook his head, “I don’t even have his number. I don’t know his last name or anything.”
“Really? I thought you had a somewhat regulated plan.”
“If we’re both single by Christmas, we spend the night together. That’s it, that’s the whole plan.”
She laughed, “You’re a bit of a disaster, Dan.”
“I know.” He said. He sighed deeply, leaning further down until his chin came to rest on his hands. “I’ve given up trying to sort this out, I’m just along for the ride now.”
She didn’t respond, but without needing to look over Dan knew she was rolling her eyes at him.
They watched the girls dance until they were ushered off the stage and the lights started to dim. The hall had filled up quite a bit since they’d turned their back on the balcony, and they had to shuffle past grumbly chic people annoyed they had to move their legs to let them past. It was Dan and El’s third year. They were used to the rich people by now.
The lead dancers had all changed. He recognised the previous lead as one of the background dancers, along with a couple of others who’d had big roles the years before. Phil was nowhere to be found. Dan had a heavy feeling in his stomach as he watched them float across the stage. Eleanor noticed too, taking her best friend’s hand in hers and squeezing it tightly. They exchanged a short glance, but Dan couldn’t bear looking her in the eyes for too long, too embarrassed about his situation and the hope he’d displayed before the show. She knew he’d been excited for their meeting and Phil’s not being there made him feel ashamed, naive almost. His eyes absentmindedly followed the ballerinas, not really taking anything in.
Eleanor kept a firm grip on his hand, pulling him downstairs to the bar and pushing a glass of champagne into his hand. She wasn’t sure what to say either, clearly. Dan could see the radars in her head spin as she tried to come up with a way to comfort him.
“Dan?”
He saw Eleanor’s eyes light up before he turned and faced the person who’d said his name.
Phil was wearing slacks and a button-down shirt, his hair neatly swept to one side. He looked older, more mature. Dan was glad Eleanor had made him dress up that year, so he knew he looked good. He subconsciously reached up and tugged on his tie a bit as he looked the dancer up and down.
“It’s good to see you.” He managed to say.
“You too.” Phil said.
“I thought you might not be here this year.”
“I’m not on the team anymore. Not as a dancer, at least. I’ve taken up that coaching position like I told you I might last year, I’m assistant coach now.”
“Wow, congratulations.”
Phil laughed, “It’s not that spectacular, I’m not sure if it deserves congratulations.”
“Well, you’ve done better for yourself than I have.” Dan said. It was out there before he could stop himself, and the moment he’d said it he was afraid he’d enclosed too much information about his personal life.
“You can tell me all about it after the show,” Phil said, “I have to get back to the team now. I was just coming to say hi and make sure you knew I was here. Backdoor?”
“Yep, see you there.”
“Perfect.”
He watched Phil leave before turning around to face Eleanor, who had a smug look on her face. “See, it’s all fine.” She said.
“You say that now, but you were afraid he wouldn’t be here too.”
“Maybe.” She admitted. She touched her champagne glass to his, “Cheers to another fun night for you.”
“And cheers for hopefully one for you. You deserve one.”
He meant it. After Nicola cheated on her six months into their relationship she’d stayed away from boys for a while, but a week earlier she’d said she might try and pull on the 23rd of December, for the first time in months. He watched her eye a guy standing behind them as she nodded and took a sip of her drink. “I sure do.”

Dan couldn’t help but break into a smile when he watched Phil approach. He was stopped a few times along the way to shake hands and receive pats on the shoulder, but eventually he made it over and to Dan’s surprise he leaned in and kissed him right in front of everyone. “Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah, can you just leave?”
Phil nodded. “Let’s walk.”
The moment they stepped out into the cold Dan glanced over to see if Phil would change his mind about walking, but he didn’t. They both put up the collars on their coats and bowed their heads against the wind. Dan had his hands shoved deep into his pockets until he felt Phil’s fingers brush against his wrist. Wordlessly, their fingers intertwined and fell between their two bodies.
“It was a good performance.” Dan said eventually.
He saw Phil nod from the corner of his eye, “They trained their little hearts out. The lead got sick three days ago, so this was the understudy performing. She’d never had this big a role before and was so nervous, bless her.” He smiled to himself.
“When did you start coaching?”
“With the start of the new schoolyear, this September. I still dance too, just not on this team anymore. I’ve stopped competing too, I’m just doing it for fun on the side now.”
“That must’ve been a transition.”
“Yeah, I struggled with it a bit. Still do, really. I miss it, but I know this is where I need to be and what I need to be doing.”
Dan stayed quiet. His mind drifted to his own situation, how he was far from where he needed to be. He bit his lip, face numb with the cold.
Phil squeezed his hand. The only comfort he could offer without asking too much about his life outside of their Christmas dates.
The hotel was a twenty-minute walk from the theatre, and when they finally stepped into the lobby Dan’s whole body started stinging as the warmth from inside hit him. Next to him, Phil rubbed his hands together and blew on them. His cheeks were bright red, shimmering in the bright lights. Dan couldn’t help remarking in his mind that he looked cute and kissable.
They took the lift up. Hand-in-hand once again, eyes shyly meeting through their reflections in the mirror. The third time and still it felt new and exciting.
There was only one big, king-sized bed in the room this year. Phil’s suitcase was on the floor by the desk with a couple of items strewn over the chair.
“So, I have a suggestion. You can say no if you want.”
“Okay.” Dan said, raising his eyebrows.
“I brought a really nice bath bomb. From Lush. The bath is fairly spacious.”
“Yes?”
“Yes?”
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Okay.”
Phil grabbed him by his tie and pulled him in, their lips touching together gently.
They got undressed as the bath ran in the other room. Phil was still as toned and gorgeous as he had been the years before and Dan’s fingers itched to reach out and touch him. He had to have patience. Soon enough, they’d be bunched up in the bath, with no other choice but to touch each other.
The bath bomb fizzed and coloured the water a pale, glittery blue. Phil lined up the little hotel shampoos and soaps on the side, his muscles flexing under his taut skin as he moved. Dan’s eyes were glued to him, mesmerised.
“You good?”
“Yeah.”
Phil got in first, settling in comfortably before beckoning Dan over. The latter was hesitant, trying to be elegant about it and almost slipping in the process. A small tidal wave splashed over the side of the bath as he steadied himself on the tap. Phil laughed. He was relaxed, with his head resting against the wall and his arms stretched out over the sides of the bath. The hot water made Dan want to relax, but the situation was so foreign and new to him that he was struggling to keep his composure altogether and was happy enough when he finally settled down with his knees pulled into his chest.
The bath water being blue obscured most areas Dan was insecure about from sight, and soon enough he was relaxing his legs, stretching them out alongside Phil’s. “So, how was your year?” Phil asked.
He was good at asking those questions that could be answered by pretty much anything, leaving the decision as to where to draw the line with Dan once again. “Good,” the latter said hesitantly, “it was a ride.”
Phil laughed, “Yeah, me too.”
“I’m- I was in university before. I dropped out.” Phil didn’t seem to judge him, just nodding encouragingly for Dan to go on. “So, I work in a store now. Trying to, you know, sort out my life and all.”
“What do you want to do when you’re older?”
“I don’t know, die maybe.”
“Okay, that’s valid. But before that?”
Dan shrugged, “I don’t know, honestly.”
Phil decided not to press anymore, and Dan quickly took the opportunity to ask about his year.
“It was good. I went on my last Europe tour as a member of the team instead of a coach, so that was a bit bittersweet. I’m excited to coach though. Oh, I finally moved out, too. Was about time.” He laughed, the water moving off him in little waves.

Dan put on his underwear before he dried any other part of his body. Phil had no such inclination, stood in the middle of the hotel room stark-naked while drying his hair. The bed looked cosy and inviting, and although the room was warm enough Dan longed to curl up under the covers for a while.
Wearing just his pants he crawled into bed and pulled the duvet up to his chin. While he waited for the other to finish up, he grabbed the remote control off the bedside table and turned the TV on to a radio station that was playing Christmas songs. The only thing this atmosphere needed to be perfect was a little scented candle, but Dan would settle for this.
“So, I’ve been waiting pretty much all year to make out with you. Do you mind doing that for a while before we decide what to do with the rest of our night?”
Dan grinned, “I think I’m alright with that.”
Phil slipped under the covers with him and pushed him down onto his back. Dan laced his fingers through Phil’s mildly damp hair as they kissed. Maybe his flight response to Nicholas’ question had had less to do with the question of commitment to either a boy or anyone, and more to do with the fact that he was already committed to something. Phil’s hands were a bit cold roaming his sides. They sent shivers down his spine, but he did nothing to stop them.

“We can go to sleep now, if you want.” Phil’s voice came from the other room.

Phil returned, putting his underwear back on and slipping back under the covers with Dan, “If we go to sleep now we’ll have loads of time together tomorrow. I’m not leaving till the evening. If you want that, of course.”
That woke Dan up. He opened his eyes and raised his head, but Phil had turned the light off and the room was dark. “Of course I want that.”
“Okay. Okay. Sleep now, then. We’ll have a lot of time tomorrow.”
Dan turned around, picking his underwear off the floor and wiggling into them under the duvet. When he was done, Phil crawled up beside him and wrapped his arms around him from behind. “This okay?” He asked. His warm breath stroked along Dan’s neck, making his skin raise into goosebumps.
“Yeah.” He whispered back.
He fell asleep with Phil’s arms tightly wrapped around him, soothed by his even breathing against his skin.

When Dan woke up Phil was still fast asleep. He snuck out from under his arm and tiptoed to the bathroom, where it still smelt like fruit and mint or whatever the bath bomb had been. After peeing Dan put a bit of Phil’s toothpaste in his mouth and sloshed it around for a bit; it would have to do.
“Morning.” He was greeted by Phil, lying on his back with one arm thrown over his face to protect his eyes from the sunlight, when he walked back into the bedroom.
“Morning.”
“Want to order some room service and chill in bed while we eat?”
“Sounds good.” He leant down and kissed the top of Phil’s head without really thinking, not realising himself until he met the other’s eyes. Phil pulled him down with a hand on the back of his neck and pecked his lips.
They ordered room service on the hotel website, Dan getting pancakes and Phil some vegan waffles. While they waited for it to arrive Dan got dressed, splashing some water in his face and attempting to bring his hair to some kind of order. He startled when he felt hands touching his belly. Phil had appeared behind him, wrapping his arms around Dan’s waist and now resting his chin on his shoulder. “What do you want to do today?”
“Anything. I wouldn’t mind staying in and just hanging out.”
“What, just talking, getting to know each other?” Dan asked. It was meant as a joke, but when Phil shrugged he nodded, “Alright, sure.”
They ate their breakfast sat cross-legged on the big double bed. Soft Christmas music played on the TV as they started chatting, carefully at first but quickly becoming more free in their questions and stories.
In the middle of one of his stories Phil suddenly called his dad ‘Mr Lester’, bringing the hand that was just about to put a bite of pancake into Dan’s mouth to an abrupt halt. Phil hadn’t noticed, his lively storytelling not stuttering for even a second.
But Dan had a name.
He had a full name to plug into the Google search bar rather than just the name of the ballet company. He wasn’t sure whether to try his absolute hardest to forget it as soon as possible, or whether to save it to his long-term memory and tattoo it onto his brain.

At about half two, when Phil was lying flat on his back with Dan’s head resting on his belly, both staring at the ceiling and half at the other’s hands gesturing in the air as they spoke, Dan’s phone started ringing. They both raised their heads, disturbed.
It was Eleanor. A picture of her and Dan as little kids in a playpark illuminated the screen.
“El?”
“Danny-boy, where are you?”
“Uh…” Dan glanced over to the bed, where Phil had grabbed his own phone and was scrolling through some missed messages.
“I told your mum you’re hanging out with a mate, but I can’t hold her off forever.”
Fuck. Christmas crafts.
“I hadn’t realised the time.”
It was quiet on the other end for a moment, “Bring him.” She said finally.
“No, it’s okay, I’ll come back.”
“Really, Dan, bring him.”
It was a weird crossroad to be at. He had 24 hours with Phil, but he also had a best friend and a mum waiting for their Christmas tradition, and he’d already let them down by being late. Last year in November he’d been at the same fork in the road, he realised, and he’d made the wrong decision then. He’d chosen Rosie over Eleanor and he still hated himself for that. It was clear-cut, really.
“I’m sorry for forgetting the time, I’ll be over as soon as I can. Get the crafts ready, I’m feeling the creative juices flowing.”
Eleanor laughed, the sound sending a relieved warmth to Dan’s heart. “Alright, alright. See you soon. Love you.”
“Love you, too.” When Dan turned back to the bed he wasn’t sure how to break the news. He bit his lip and sat down, awkwardly.
“You have to go?” Phil asked.
“I have a Christmas tradition with my mum and my best friend. It’s bad enough that I forgot about it.”
“It’s okay,” Phil nodded. His smile said that he meant it, “My bus leaves at ten, we can have dinner together if you want?”
“I’d love that, yes.”
“Meet me at the hotel entrance at seven?”
“Definitely.”
“Okay, all good. Have a good day, Dan.”
Dan bit the inside of his cheek. This was the right thing to do, and he was looking forward to crafts, as he did each year, but this still felt bittersweet.
When Phil opened his arms he happily fell into them, “I’m sorry.” He said.
“It’s okay, don’t worry about it. The day after is not usually a part of our tradition, after all.”
“I know, but it would’ve been nice.”
“Yeah, it would’ve been.”

Eleanor hugged him when he came in. Her arms were familiar and welcoming, and decidedly not upset with him. “How was your day, huh?”
He grinned, “Most excellent, thanks for asking.”
“I want to hear all about it. As soon as we’re not with your mum anymore, that is.”
“Are you kidding? You know about my thing, I want to hear about your night.” She winked at him and spun on her heel, walking to the living room. “Eleanor, you bitch, you can’t do this to me.”
“I can, and I will.”
“Dan, there you are! Did you have a good time with your friend?”
“Oh yeah, it was lovely.” Dan said, doing his best to hide the grin on his face that was mirrored by his best friend to his left.
Eleanor, always right beside him.

Scrolling was a bit more difficult than usual after the Glue Accident, but Eleanor managed it as she showed Dan Facebook pictures of a boy with blonde curls and a toned dancer’s body. They’d done two hours of crafts with Dan’s mum and then quickly retreated to Dan’s room with two steaming mugs of hot chocolate, now stood forgotten on the bedside table.
Cam seemed nice enough, but it was clear that Eleanor didn’t care much for his niceness: he’d given her his number at the end of the night, but when Dan asked her if she’d put it into her phone she said she didn’t even remember where she put the note. The night had but a content grin on her face that was enough for now. A reminder that she still had it and that Nicola was a stupid idiot who was missing out, like Dan had been telling her for the past couple of months.
“So, what about you? Why were you still with him?”
“He’s here all day. Not leaving till nine tonight.”
“Wait, you were going to spend the day with him?”
“Yeah.”
“He’s still here?” With every word she was sitting up a bit straighter.
“Yeah.”
“Then what are you doing here?”
“Bros before hoes. Mums before- I don’t know- bums? You know what I mean.”
“Okay, crafts over. Go back to him, God. Your mum and I will still be here tonight and tomorrow and all the time after that.”
Dan was quiet for a moment. “El,” He said then, softly, “I’m sorry about last November.”
He didn’t need to explain what he meant. She gave him a sad smile and a playful push against the shoulder that meant more than it led on, “I know.”
“I really am. I shouldn’t have prioritised Rosie over you, and that was so fucking dumb of me.”
“Yeah, you were an idiot. Still are, really.” Eleanor agreed.
Dan grinned, “Yeah, alright, alright, calm down.”
“You deserve it though.” She said, laughing along. Her hand, still on his shoulder, shook him gently, “Go. It’s okay, we’ll hang out tonight and watch Home Alone. After he’s left.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. You came to crafts, thank you.”
“I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it.” He scrambled to his feet and kissed the top of her head. “Love you.”
“Love you, too, idiot.” She shook her head at him as he left the room.

It was six o’clock when he made it into the hotel lobby and the realisation that he had no way of getting upstairs or contacting Phil to let him in. He stood, probably suspiciously, next to the check-in desk for just a little too long, before his stupid foggy brain finally thought of something to do.
“El?”
“Why are you calling me? Go have sex or something.” She whispered the last part, probably still at his house, near his mum.
“I don’t have his phone number. Can you see if you can find Cam’s and ask him for Phil’s number for me?”
“Really? You want me to ask a guy I slept with last night for one of his friends’ phone numbers? Do you want me to break the guy’s heart?”
“Tell him it’s a gay emergency.”
“A gay emergency, huh?”
Dan’s face flushed red, “At this point, I can’t really deny anything anymore, you know?”
“You’re gay?”
“Oh my god, this is not what I called you for, El.”
“I know.”
“I’m not gay. I’m just- not straight. Bi, maybe.”
“I’ll find Cam’s number. Tell him it’s a bi emergency.”
“You’re an angel.”
“Yeah, and you’re so lucky to have me.”
After they hung up the phone Dan spent another couple of awkward minutes hanging around the check-in desk, giving the lady behind it a nod that he hoped was reassuring and friendly.
Just before his standing around started going from ‘weird’ to ‘scary’, Eleanor texted him. Just a string of numbers. Presumably Phil’s phone number. Phil Lester’s phone number.
What was he even supposed to say? What did you put in a first text to someone you’d known for two years but had only really seen three times?
Hey, it’s Dan. I’m back at the hotel if you want to hang out now? Am in the lobby.
His finger hovered over the ‘send’ button, and after a glance at the clock – twenty past six – he pressed it.
The lady behind the desk was really starting to give him looks now, so he moved to near the lifts, which was maybe even more suspicious. Thankfully, a minute or two later, one of the lifts opened and Phil appeared, now dressed in some casual jeans and a T shirt. “Hey.”
“Hey.”
“How were your crafts?”
“Excellent, I’m a master.”
“I’m sure you are. Want to go straight to the restaurant?”
“Sure. Where are we going?”
“Well, it just so happens that I know of an exquisite Pizza Hut around the corner.”
“Hm, really? How did you become acquainted with it?”
“Ah well, I just Google Maps-ed it a minute and a half ago.”

It was a short walk. Five minutes, maybe. Dan felt some weird sense of pride walking next to Phil, boasting with the cute guy he’d managed to get to… take him on a date? He wasn’t sure what this was, until fingertips touched his hand palm and fingers intertwined with his. He glanced to his side and the two boys made eye contact, grinning at each other, each content with what had just occurred between them.
Dan’s secondary school had had a pizza hut right around the corner, meaning he was very, very closely acquainted with how things worked in there. Phil, who’d been on a ballet diet most of his life, had only stepped foot inside a Pizza Hut maybe three times, had no idea what was going on from the moment he walked in.
“The salad bar is free?” He asked quietly, “Dan,” he did a little jog to catch up with the other, “Dan, it’s free?”
“Yeah. The bacon bits are vegan, too.”
“The bacon bits?”
Dan was enjoying being the one with more experience on something for once, albeit with the workings of a cheap pizza place.
He didn’t need to look at the menu, knowing his order by heart. Amusedly, he watched Phil study his options with his finger tracing the letters as he read them. “Is this one any good?”
“What, the pan? Sure. I’m a classic fan though.”
“I think I’ll be adventurous and get a pan.”
After they’d ordered Dan got some more entertainment from watching Phil squint at the salad bar options, carefully picking up some tomatoes and then loading up on bacon bits. “You’re sure?” He asked, by which time it was already far too late to dump the whole lot back into the bowl.
“Yeah, they’re vegan. My friend who’s vegan has them all the time.”
“Okay.”
Phil made the classic mistake of overloading on the salad bar, so he couldn’t finish his pizza. Dan gladly made use of this by eating the last 3 slices.
The boundaries had been moved, and for some reason instead of making it more awkward, as it had been before when they weren’t sure where the lines were drawn, they spoke more easily and fluently. Phil even opened up about his childhood, and how he’d started dancing.
Dan had to try his best to not stare at him fondly, leaning his head on one hand, while he listened.

It was a quarter to eight. They had exactly an hour and fifteen minutes to get Phil’s stuff packed up and get him on the bus, yet the moment they left Pizza Hut, they headed in the exact opposite direction of the hotel.
Their fingers were intertwined, hands swinging between them as they walked.
They got ice cream at a place Dan loved, sitting outside on a freezing December night despite the odd looks they were getting. By the end of it Dan couldn’t feel his tongue, but it was worth it to see the happy smile on Phil’s face, and the way his cheeks had gone red and rosy from the cold air.
Eventually they had to reluctantly make their way back to the hotel. Hand in hand once again.
Dan watched him throw his things into the suitcase on the floor and zip it up with the effortless movements of someone who’d done this many times before.
“I’ll see you next year?” Dan asked. He felt hope and hurt burning in his heart at once.
“I’ll be here. I hope you will be, too.”
“I’ll see if I can find the time to pop by.” Dan said. A weak attempt at a joke while he felt like a small part of him had just been zipped up into a suitcase headed north.
Downstairs by the bus, the other dancers greeted Dan like a friend with pats on the back and smiling nods. “See you next year, Dan.” One of them told him.
A fair assertion, or so Dan hoped.

Worry was evident on your face as your boyfriend, Oh Sehun sat on your toilet with blood pouring from various places on his face.
You didn't know what to say as he blankly stared ahead at the cream colored wall.
You grabbed a rag and tenderly began cleaning the blood off.
He would wince and hiss occasionally but not a single word was said.
When you cleaned his face off and found the origins of the wounds you began putting the cheap off brand Neosporin you could afford on them so they hopefully wouldn't get infections and placed bandaids over the small cuts.
"All done." You mumbled softly.
Sehun stood up and removed his jacket, his white shirt was painted with blood and you gasped. You went to go remove his shirt to check for worse wounds than the ones on his face and he put his hands up.
"It's not my blood." The first words he uttered since entering your apartment.
"Sehun.. What's going on?" You asked softly.
"Nothing. Will you please just go lay down. I need to shower." He said and turned his back to you and removed his shirt.
You stared at the deep purple bruises that painted his muscular back.
You sighed and exited the bathroom shutting the door.
You went to your room and grabbed a t-shirt, sweats and some boxers Sehun had left here.
You entered the bathroom quietly and grabbed his bloody clothing leaving him the fresh clean ones.
You did your best to soak the blood covered clothes before putting them in your sketchy washing machine you were sure was installed when the apartment building was erected in the early 80's.
Only after you started the load did you notice the blood that stained your hands.
You clenched your jaw and went to your sink and furiously began scrubbing the red off of your hands.
"Do you have anything to eat?"
You jumped at the question not realizing Sehun had exited the bathroom.
You blinked a few times trying to tame the heart that beat wildly in your chest. You went to your fridge and sighed at the nearly barren appliance.
"Um I have some leftovers or fruit." You stated.
"Fruit sounds fine to me." He said.
You picked an apple from your counter and got out a cutting board and began slicing the apple.
You put them on a plate and handed it to him. He sat at the table and you got out two glasses filling them with water. Had you had some alcohol you would have much rather preferred that at the moment.
You gave him a glass and he smiled softly.
"Thank you." He said and took a big gulp of the water.
You sat across from him at the small uneven table.
You were staring at your glass of water trying to process everything. This was the third time this has happened in short amount of time and he still wasn't opening up about it. You tried to be supportive no matter what but your patience was wearing thin as you swear you found a gray hair at the ripe age of 20 because of the stress and worry this man puts you through.
"Y/N?" Sehun's voice broke through your train of thought and you saw as he held an apple slice up for you to take.
You took it and gave a small thank you before taking a bite of the sweet fruit.
"Are you okay?" He asked as you began spacing off again.
"I should be asking you that." You didn't mean to snap, you didn't want to but you couldn't help it.
Sehun's gaze dropped to the nearly empty plate. He began to speak but his phone could be heard ringing from your bedroom.
Sehun looked at you apologetically before he got up to answer it.
You clenched your jaw as unwilling tears made their way to your eyes.
You couldn't make out his hushed talking but you knew he would be leaving again.
You turned to face him as his footsteps made their way back to the cramped dining room/kitchen.
He had on a pair of black jeans and black t-shirt, he had slowly been leaving more and more of his stuff over as way of moving in, in a slow comfortable pace.
"Y/N, I have to go. Thank you for cleaning me up and for the fruit." He said, his voice was indifferent.
You turned toward the table and clasped your fingers together tightly.
"Don't bother coming back." You stated in an even tone.
"Y/N.. It will only be a couple hours. I promise I will-"
"Sehun I said don't come back. Please. I can't take this anymore."
"Once I walk out that door, you won't ever see me again." He said, he was hoping you would break and fight for him.
"Live well, Sehun." You said glad you chose to be a coward and not face him so he wouldn't see the streams of tears that cascaded down your cheeks like a waterfall.
Silence enveloped the room.
Sehun grew annoyed and stomped out slamming the door.
You covered your mouth as a sob escaped your lips. You could no longer hold back all the anger, frustration and sadness you felt inside.
You laid your head on the table and cried until you couldn't open your eyes.
When you came to you were awoken by your phone going off.
You groggily rubbed the kink in your neck from the awkward angle you slept in on the table.
You finally registered your phone was ringing and looked at the clock on wall that read half past eleven a.m
"Fuck." You mumbled and ran to your phone, sure enough the caller id was your manager.
"Hello, I'm so sorry." You stuttered out.
"You are nearly an hour late- you never are so I'm more worried than mad but get your ass over here it's nuts." Your manager finished and you promised you would get there as soon as possible.
You threw on your disgusting uniform for the diner that barely covered you and put your hair up in haphazard ponytail slipping on your comfy work shoes before bolting out the door and running all the way to the small diner. You entered through the back and clocked in throwing on your apron and grabbing your ticket book and immediately found your manager to figure out which group of tables you would have for the lunch rush.
You were on autopilot as you took orders and brought food out to your regulars and those who popped in for their lunch break.
Since you were late you got stuck closing up the diner with the other closers.
"You won't be late tomorrow, right?" Your manager pestered for the millionth time as she cashed out the register putting the money in the safe.
"I promise. It was a one time deal and I sincerely apologize." You said exhaustedly.
"Good, otherwise I will have to demote you back to the smaller areas." The manager threatened and you nodded.
After closing the diner you walked defeated by the day hoping last night was a nightmare. But you knew better.
When you got home you noticed something was different.
You noticed the various coats belonging to Sehun were absent from the rack at your entrance.
You went further in and noticed the little things of his that began to clutter your apartment making it a home you shared were gone.
You went to the washing machine hoping that the forgotten load from last night was still in there.
Your heart dropped as you opened it and it was empty.
You checked every nook and cranny of the apartment. No reason for him to come back, for you to apologize and get to the bottom of his mysterious lifestyle.
You went through the motions of taking a shower and prepping for bed, you set your alarm and curled up on your bed emotionally exhausted.
You wished the earth would just swallow you so you didn't have to feel this way you were feeling.
You tossed and turned, the small clock on the dresser informed you it was nearing 2 and you had little to no sleep. You tiredly grabbed your phone and hit Sehun's contact. You pressed the call button and held the phone to your ear.
You were immediately disheartened as an automated voice informed you the number had been disconnected.
Once again you cried yourself to sleep.
That was five years ago, a relationship you had tended to for numerous years had ended in one short night.
You had quit the shitty job at the diner and applied somewhere you could get lots of money rather than scrimping by hoping for raises and trying to better your life.
You started out as a hostess welcoming guests to the gentlemen's club. You were soon moved up to waitress and delivered drinks to all sorts of men.
You can't remember when your boss approached you and offered a better paying job within the establishment.
You were timid about it at first, being a private dancer for the highest paying customers.
But once you tried it out you found a thrill in it. Pretty soon you were out of your dank little apartment and could afford a much nicer one with beautiful appliances and comfy furniture as opposed to the hard old ones you had been accustomed to your whole life growing up on the wrong side of the tracks.
You didn't worry about food anymore or what you could or could not afford.
It was exhilarating.
The only thing missing was someone to come home to. Someone to hold you and would love you.
You craved that, but not enough to try. You used men for your own selfish pleasure. But you weren't sure you could love anyone like you loved... You wouldn't go there, it wasn't worth it.
It was a normal night for you at the gentlemen's club, you were dressed in a pair of jean shorts that your ass hung out of the bottom and a tight black tank top with no bra.
You waited for your customer to come in as music played in the background.
"Hello, Cherry."
You looked up and smirked at the regular who entered, he was by far the most generous. Even more so than the politicians who venture in.
This is a no questions asked kinda place so you are not sure where his money comes from but frankly you don't care.
"Hello, Suho." You purred and stood up, you strutted over to him and kissed the edge of his mouth. He was the only one to get a bit more intimate with you.
He grinned and sat down on the couch. You studied his features and sauntered over and sat on his lap grinding onto him to the beat of the music.
"Mmm. Do you have time to talk tonight, Kitten?"
"Do you really just wanna talk?" You pouted, Suho chuckled and rubbed your bare legs.
"Just a little bit." He said and you got up turning the music down.
You sat beside him and he placed your legs over his lap and absentmindedly ran his fingers over them.
"So what did you want to talk about?" You asked as you snuggled into his side as if you were a couple not a man paying you for your time.
"I've got a friend. About your age, he has been a bit uptight lately and if he keeps having his way with whatever pair of legs walks by and is willing he is going to end up with the clap. Would you be interested in having him as a client?" Suho asked.
"Make sure he doesn't have the clap yet and send him my way. Will he pay good?" You asked. You didn't take just any customer who walked through the door and wanted a private room you built up a good client list and only take on others of their caliber.
"If he doesn't, tell me and I will make sure he does." Suho said and turned to you to caress your face. You smiled.
"You're too good to me." You said and nuzzled your head in his shoulder.
You could feel the vibrations as he chuckled. Sometimes you wished you had met Suho somewhere else far away from this place.
"Anything else you needed to talk about?" You asked.
"Nope, I will make an appointment for my friend within the next couple of days."
"Sounds good." You replied and got up. You turned the music back up and gave Suho his show.
In this time you had bettered your life in what ways you could, Sehun had completely shut off any feelings he had for anyone and everything.
On his missions for the mafia he became more reckless, he didn't have anyone or anything to live for, who cared if he died?
The mafia organization he worked for was small and they were all close. He knew the men who had become his brothers were worried but he had shut himself so off he didn't seem to care.
"Sehun.." A girls voice cooed from his bed. He stared out at the rainy darkness as thunder rumbled off in the distance. She used to love these storms, he thought to himself.
"Sehun." The voice said again a bit louder.
He turned from the window to face the girl he brought home from the club.
"You're still here?" He asked in an annoyed tone.
"Well yeah, round two and cuddles after?" She smirked.
Sehun's face stayed stony as he turned back to the window.
"You should leave." He said.
"What! I thought we-"
"We fucked, it's over. Leave." Sehun said not even giving her glance as she hastily got dressed and left his apartment slamming the front door.
Sehun rolled his eyes as he gathered his sheets putting them in the wash. He put on fresh sheets and laid down staring at the ceiling unable to sleep.
The rain and thunder brought back too many memories for his mind to be calm.
He closed his eyes and could feel her lying next to him. Her head on his chest listening to the steady rhythm of his heart. He went to pet her hair and was hit with realization she wasn't there.
Sehun's eyes opened and he got up pouring himself a glass of strong alcohol.
His phone began ringing and he looked at it. Sehun sighed and picked up.
"Hello Hyung." He answered.
"Given anymore thought to seeing Cherry, at the gentlemen's club?" Suho's voice came over the receiver.
Sehun took a deep sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Hyung, why pay to have a woman tease me when I can meet a girl and have a one night stand?"
"You're running out of girls to sleep with." Suho said.
"That was so funny I forgot to laugh." Sehun snapped.
"Just once. If it's not your cup of tea you can go back to getting an std or a baby."
"Fine. Tell me when to be there." Sehun sighed.
"You won't regret it. Cherry is a real peach." Suho said and Sehun could tell he was grinning, proud of his horrendous dad joke. Sehun remained silent.
"That was good come on."
"No Hyung. It never is." Sehun said.
"Whatever. I will text you the details. Don't be late to the meeting tomorrow to go over our next project."
"I won't. Goodnight Hyung." Sehun said hanging up the phone before Suho could say his farewell.
Sehun downed the rest of his drink and went back to bed falling into a dreamless sleep.
You checked your burner phone as Suho set up an appointment for his friend.
He didn't give a name, only the initials, OS.
The appointment was late in the evening. You went through your day as usual. Prepping to look your best for your customers.
This was never how you pictured your life, you had dreams of being a teacher but didn't have the option of college. Sometimes you thought of going to school as you could now afford it, but the longer you did this the more it grew on you. It paid well, you lived better than you ever had.
You sighed and pushed out the thoughts of the dreams you once had of the life you envisioned for yourself and headed into work.
You wore your usual jean shorts that showed your ass and a flowy white tank top with no bra.
You put on a few different shows for a couple of your customers.
After they left you sat and waited for the arrival of Suho's friend.
From the way Suho described his lifestyle you wouldn't be surprised if this OS was a no show.
A few moments later you were brought out of your thoughts. You stood to greet your new customer.
Your breath caught in your lungs as you stared wide eyed at the man who had walked out of your life five years ago.
Sehun looked around the room before his eyes landed on you. When they did his eyes widened as well.
"Y/N." He was the first to speak. His voice was unsure. He felt like he was in a dream.
"Hi.." You said unsure of what to say.
"Y/N are you Cherry?" Sehun asked
"Yes and if you would please just refer to me as the latter I would appreciate that. I can't have every John knowing my name." You said sharply.
"Why are you.. Why this?" He asked confused.
"Pays well, isn't that why you do whatever it is you do? Killing people or something?" You said, you were bitter. You imagined running into him a million times but it was never like this.
"I guess you could say that." Sehun laughed uncomfortably.
Silence took over and you studied him, his hair was black, it was parted slightly and fell over his forehead. His features were pretty much the same just older.
"You look good." He said breaking the silence. You rolled your eyes and looked away from him.
"Do you want a show or not?" You asked.
"Might as well." He shrugged.
No. You wanted him to say no and leave.
Your heart hammered against your ribcage as he made his way to the couch and sat down.
You turned the music up and began getting a feel for it. You did your best to turn your thoughts off as you swayed to the rhythm and made your way toward him. You danced in front of him suggestively and then sat on his lap teasing as you moved up and down.
Sehun groaned and you could feel him harden beneath you.
You swallowed and turned around. You straddled his lap.
Sehun's head lolled back and you instinctively placed wet kisses on his neck and throat.
"I missed you." He mumbled. You froze.
Sehun looked at you and you immediately got off.
"Y/N- I mean Cherry. Are you okay?" He asked getting up.
"Leave." I said.
"No. I mean you don't have to finish that but I want to talk." Sehun said reaching for you. You put your hands up.
"What is there to talk about? It has been five years." You said.
"Please." Sehun begged.
You clenched your jaw and looked away.
"Fine. Meet me at the cafe on 5th in an hour." You said.
"The cafe on 5th in an hour?" Sehun clarified and you nodded.
Sehun left after you didn't say anything else. You turned the music off and changed into the clothes you came to work in which was a pair of jeans, and a sweater.
"You have a couple more appointments." Your boss said as he chased you through the crowd.
"Cancel them." You replied.
"The loss is coming out of your paycheck!" He called as you exited the building. You didn't care. The only thing on your mind is what you were going to say to Sehun.
You arrived to the small cafe a bit early. You spotted Sehun in the corner already sipping on a drink.
You ordered your usual and made your way to Sehun.
You sat in front of him still unsure of what to say.
"Hey." He greeted.
"Hi." You replied.
"How have you been?" He asked.
"I've been well, and you?" You replied.
"I've been okay." He said and took a sip of his drink.
"So you know Suho?" You questioned.
"Yeah, he is my boss." Sehun answered.
"Has he been your boss since you entered whatever it is you do?" You asked and he nodded.
"I'm sorry I snuck in to take my stuff. If you had been there, I don't think I could have left." He said and your heart rate picked up. You looked at your drink, everything you wanted to say bubbling at the surface. But you knew once you started you wouldn't be able to stop the words vomiting from your mouth.
"I meant what I said, I missed you." Sehun said.
"I'm not the same person anymore, you miss the memory of me, not me." You stated. Sehun remained silent.
"I'm sorry." You mumbled.
"Huh?" Sehun questioned not hearing you.
"I'm sorry. I never wanted you to leave. I wanted you to talk to me, to let me know what was going on. But you didn't, I should have said that instead of just telling you to leave and for that I'm sorry." You said and looked up at Sehun.
His gaze was soft, you missed looking into his deep brown orbs.
"I wanted to tell you. But it was risk, it was a risk being with you. But you were worth it. I loved you." Sehun said. He used the past tense, what you said made sense to him. He doesn't know you, he knew you.
"I'm going to be completely honest with you, I haven't had a relationship since we broke up." You admitted to him.
"I haven't either." He replied.
"I guess a small part of me hoped we would run into each other and patch things up. It's been a few too many years for that now huh?" You teased softly, it was true you had hoped for that. But fate obviously had other plans. Sehun chuckled and looked down at the table and you began to memorize his features unsure if you would see him again.
"Do you think we could be friends? I mean like we were before." He asked.
"We kinda have to start at square one but I don't see why we couldn't try?" You said in a hopeful manner.
Sehun smiled at you and you couldn't help but smile back.
"Well then, hello, I'm Oh Sehun." He said stretching his hand toward you.
"Y/F/N Y/L/N." You replied back shaking his hand.
"Okay first things first drop Suho as your client." Sehun said and sipped his drink.
"Excuse me. Suho is my best paying customer! No way in hell am I dropping him." You argued.
"I will pay the difference in your salary to make up for the loss. Or I could become your highest paying customer." He smirked.
"As if!" You crumpled your straw wrapper and tossed it at him as he laughed.
The sudden change in the atmosphere was welcome as you started a new friendship with the man you held so dear to your heart.

For the past thirty minutes you sat staring at your suitcase still trying to figure out what the hell to pack. The program that you joined had asked everyone if they wanted to go on a trip for extra credit to work for the beach down by Busan for junior year. Not that you needed it, you had zero plans made for this summer.
Niki’s out of town visiting her family for the summer and Sohee’s out doing what Sohee does, probably out exploring abandoned places or getting high somewhere. Who knows? You decided to get up and start packing. You walked over to your closet to skim over your outfits and carefully picked out a few outfits for the next few months. After two hours of packing, your phone dings with a notification from Niki
Niki: omg can’t believe it’s summer already! have fun on your little trip down to Busan. If anything happens call or text me right away! Luv ya!
You smile down at your phone. You and Niki have been friends for years, you first met in your freshman year of high school. She taught you everything, from how to do your make-up and style your clothes and all that fun stuff. Funny how you both got into the same college and ended up sharing the same dorm. She’s gone around the campus having different guys in and out. You would say you guys are complete opposites. You would rather stay in and watch a movie or something instead of going out and partying with drunk college students and grinding my body against sweaty skin.
After finishing up the last of your packing you respond.
Me: hey girl, omg I know! The school year went by so fast, say hi to your mom n dad for me and give Nani kisses for me! And of course, you’ll always be the first to know everything! Luv u too! Enjoy your summer 💞
Putting your phone down you go to check when you were supposed to leave and meet everyone at the train station. The ticket said 8:00 am. You set your alarm for tomorrow and get ready for bed. Checking your phone for the last time you turn the lights off and drift off to dream land.

Waking up to your alarm clock blaring in your ear. It’s near 6:00 am, you get up and start getting ready. Walking into the bathroom you bring out your skin care routine. After finishing up and brushing your teeth, you go back to where your vanity is and start with your makeup.
Choosing what to wear was easy, you chose a simple outfit. An oversized black hoodie, black parachute cargos, and white gamma forces. You come out of your room to the living room and take your bag off the counter and get the rest of the bags for the trip. The drive to the train station took longer than expected. Traffic was horrible. The ride was said to be only about 30 minutes, you ended up getting there about an hour later.
After blasting music on the way there you had finally arrived, you see a few of your classmates from previous classes and walk up to say hi. “Yunjin!” You shouted her name, catching her attention. She waves at you and starts making her way over. “Oh my god hey girl!” She goes in for a hug and starts talking about the next two months. “This is so exciting! I’ve been waiting for this trip for so long, I hope we get free time because I’m too exhausted from all those tests.” She says with low shoulders. Out of nowhere she gasps and turns to you “You’ll never fucking guess who I just saw” You look at her with a curious face “Who?” she leans in closer “Jeon Jungkook”. Your face had gone red. Hearing Jungkook’s name coming out of her mouth left you shocked. Not forgetting the history, you and the boy had.

Prompt: Honeymoon Spread
Summary: Ichigo. Rukia. And the beach.
Ichigo sighed in exasperation. When his father had called him telling him he had tickets to go to the beach, he had thought they were all going to Okinawa to have a nice family vacation. When Isshin had asked him to ask Rukia to tag along, Ichigo hadn’t thought much about it. They had been dating for four years after all, and Rukia had been invited to all family excursions ever since. So, naturally, he had asked her. His girlfriend had been worried at first. With Captain Ukitake gone, it was up to Rukia to lead Squad 13. Thankfully, Kiyone and Sentarou had come to the rescue. With their squad taken care of, both Shinigami had left work on a Thursday night and went straight to Karakura.
He really should have known something was amiss when they arrived home, and he noticed his sisters were nowhere to be found. Ichigo should have known his father was being fishy when he assured them everything was ready for the next day. He should have noticed by the way goatchin insisted in them going to sleep early that night. And he really should have known there was an ulterior motive to their vacations when Isshin left them at the airport, with their bags and IDs, and disappeared from sight.
Great, just great.
It was good that Rukia was one to go with the flow. She didn’t even blink when Isshin left them by themselves. Instead she took a look at the tickets and told Ichigo there were only two hours left for their flight. They documented their bags and had something to eat before getting on their two and a half flight. Once in Okinawa, they went to the hotel Isshin had reserved for them. That was when Ichigo finally noticed something was completely out of place. The room only had one bed, as he had expected. What was weird was that the whole bed was covered in rose petals. There were two wine bottles waiting for them at the only table in the room. There were heart-shaped pillows on the bed as well. Something in Ichigo clicked then, and he realized with horror they were in a honeymoon suit.
Once again, either Rukia was oblivious or she didn’t care, for she simply thanked the bell boy for his help. Then, she began exploring the room. The closet was big enough for their clothes, she announced with a grin. The bathroom had a tub, and they had left behind around four towels for them to use. There was a mini fridge filled with soda, water bottles and peanuts ─Ichigo had to warn her not to eat anything, otherwise they would be charged for them. Finally, she went to the balcony, from where she called Ichigo excitedly.
“Look! The view is beautiful!”
It really was. You could see the ocean from there, and the beach below. It was such a peaceful sight. But that didn’t change the fact they were in a room meant for newlyweds. Ichigo’s mind was constantly setting off alarms which said abort abort abort.
Suddenly, a loud beeping noise interrupted Ichigo’s panic attack.
“It’s your father.” Rukia said, looking at her cellphone. “He says we look inside our bags.”
Ichigo felt a cold shiver run down his back.
His father had packed the bags for them. Last night he hadn’t thought much of it for he was exhausted after long days of making sure things were ready before their vacation. But now, after everything and seeing they were in a honeymoon suit, Ichigo was sure his father had packed something embarrassing. He quickly opened his bag and rummaged through its contents. Aside from clothes which were more elegant than he was used to, he didn’t find anything out of the ordinary. Except, when he looked deeper in it, he found a huge bottle of lube and no condoms. Instead, there was a note, handwritten by his father, which read,
Ichigo, you turned 24 this year, which means you’re a man and it’s time for you to give me grandchildren. I understand that you’re a busy person, which is why I planned this three-day vacation for you and Rukia to be all by yourselves. Don’t worry, son, your daddy’s got you! Enjoy my little present, if you’re gonna make babies with my third daughter, you’re gonna need it.
Love, dad.
P. S. don’t worry about Byakuya-kun, I’ll handle him.
He quickly destroyed the note, throwing its remains in the trash can, while vowing to pummel Isshin to death once they got home. The old man was gonna get it. He, then, looked at Rukia, who was reading a note as well. Ichigo’s blood ran cold. Just what kind of depravities had his crazy father written her? What if he told her that they had planned this together?! He felt like throwing up.
“Hey, Rukia?” He called her.
“Yeah?” His girlfriend said, eyes still focused on the note.
“What did dad write you?” Ichigo asked, fidgeting where he stood.
“Oh, he was telling me he reserved a private part of the beach so that no one would bother us. He also said he packed us clothes for the evening. Kurosaki-san was very thoughtful, don’t you think?” Rukia said, smiling.
“Right.” Ichigo sighed in relief and thanked the heavens his father had enough sense not to send such things to his girlfriend.
“So, we should start getting ready. They’re getting us dinner there.” She added, grabbing a white dress from her bag.
Ichigo nodded, pulling black pants and a white shirt which seemed to match for their violet accents. They, too, reminded him of Rukia’s eyes. He also found black swimming trunks that would do if he wanted to take a dip later on. Meanwhile, his girlfriend left to the bathroom, taking with her the white dress and a bag he knew had such necessities as body lotion and deodorant she kept in his father’s house for whenever she visited. Knowing she was going to take a while, he started changing into his clothes, making sure he looked presentable. He also put on a beige belt, a chain and a bracelet. Yuzu had probably packed those for him, which made him believe his sisters had also been part of his father’s plan. While he waited, he also put their luggage in the closet. They could always sort out their clothes after dinner.
Suddenly, the door opened and out came Rukia, wearing the dress. It reached below her knees, letting her smooth legs show. She had put a golden chain belt around her hips, accentuating them. She was also wearing a red necklace, a gold bracelet and a comb kept her now long hair from falling over her face. He could also tell that she was wearing a bit of makeup, her lips looking impossibly rosy. Ichigo felt all air leave his lungs. She looked stunning. She certainly was the most beautiful woman in the world. He wanted nothing more than to pull her close and kiss her until neither of them could breathe anymore.
“So, how do I look?” Rukia asked him sultrily.
“Uh…” Ichigo gaped. “You look… amazing.” He finally said, stumbling through his words.
“You don’t look bad yourself.” Rukia said, smirking. She had the nerve to smirk at him! The vixen knew the things she did to him. “Shall we go?” She asked.
Ichigo simply nodded. They grabbed a wine bottle and a bucket with ice the hotel had kindly given them, and they set off. The receptionist told them the way to their private beach. It was a bit far, but when they arrived they knew it was worth it. The ocean looked so clear, sparkling under the sun. They quickly took off their shoes, and started walking around. The sand was soft and warm under their feet. Rukia found a nice place under a palm tree, where she lay down, a white rock supporting her back. Ichigo put the bucket between them and sat down, admiring the view that was in front of him.
“Your father was very kind for gifting us this vacation.” Rukia said. “He really shouldn’t have.”
Ichigo was now starting thinking about how much money his crazy father must have spent for his wish of becoming a grandfather to vome true. Still, it had been nice of him to send them here. The hotel was very elegant. The view from their room was phenomenal. And the private beach was a nice touch. All in all, he was probably going to thank his father when they came back.
“You know how the old man is.” Ichigo said, shrugging. “He would’ve found a way to get us here even if we had refused.”
She smiled. “Your whole family’s very kind.”
He snorted. “Yeah, when they’re not complaining or making a fuss out of nowhere.”
His girlfriend laughed. “They’re very lively too. Meanwhile, you’re very grumpy.”
Ichigo glared at her. “Ha, ha. Very funny, Rukia. Like you’re one to talk.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She said, getting defensive.
“That if I’m grumpy, you have a bad temperament.”
“At least I have a normal hair color.” She said, sticking her tongue at him.
“Take that back!”
“Never!”
They continued glaring at each other, until they burst out laughing. Even after four years of dating, bickering was as normal as it had been when they were younger. The only difference was that, right after fighting, they always either laughed or shared a tender moment. That day it was both.
“I’m glad I came here with you.” Rukia told him.
“That’s my line.” He added, smiling softly at her.
God, he was so in love with her he had grown soft.
Then, Rukia gave him a look that had his toes curling and his heart beating fast. “You know, we’re alone here, in a private beach, by ourselves.” She started saying.
Ichigo merely nodded, his mouth feeling dry.
“I was thinking…”
“Yeah?”
“We should enjoy our time together. We hardly get to be completely alone.”
Hypnotized, he only nodded again. “What did you have planned?”
“Well… I’m not wearing a swimsuit underneath this dress.” And with that, she stood up and pulled on the straps of the dress, until it fell down and pulled on her feet.
Ichigo didn’t say anything else. He immediately jumped to his feet, and pulled her close, his mouth hot against hers, hands already wandering to where he knew Rukia was aching. As he made out with her, he silently thanked his father. It seemed his plan had worked. Well, only half-way through. Rukia always took her pills. It wouldn’t do if Byakuya found out they were having sex before marriage. Although, one day for sure they would get married and give Isshin a grandchild. Just not at this moment. Right now, they were far more content spending time together at the beach.

The ride to the farm was probably one of the longest hours of your life. (And the most expensive. You hadn’t thought through taking a taxi all the way there, but you’d been in kind of a panic, so... You would deal with the financial consequences later). You cried the whole way there, and your taxi driver kept glancing at you in his rear view mirror. He’d asked if you were all right, and you’d done your best to explain to him your pet had just...
You couldn’t even think it. You wanted to believe it wasn’t true. You imagined yourself getting out of the taxi, running into the stables... And Mickey would be there, his tail whipping and his head nodding when he saw you. It had been a false alarm or something.
Because you didn’t know what you would do without him.
So when you actually got out of the taxi, your heart shattered into countless pieces when the owner of the farm met you just outside the stables, her forehead etched with worry and grief.
“I’m so sorry,” she choked out, putting her hands on your shoulders.
You fell into her, even though you only knew her as the owner of the farm where you kept Mickey, letting out the gut-wrenching sobs you’d been just barely holding back in the taxi.
“I -- I had him out for a bath, and he just -- he just sort of fell over,” she told you, rubbing your back. You could tell she was crying now, too, and you felt terrible she’d been the one to witness it. “I called the vet immediately, and they said it happens to horses sometimes. Something about the heart. Their aorta bursts and just --”
You were glad she stopped because you didn’t think you could handle hearing anymore. 
The vet came out of the stable then, frowning as he approached you.
“I’m so sorry for your loss,” he said, putting a hand on your upper arm as you pulled away from the owner.
You nodded, wiping your eyes even though there really was no use. Your tears wouldn’t be stopping anytime soon.
“Would you like to see him?”
You took a deep breath, moving your arms to hug yourself. “I... I don’t know,” you squeaked.
You’d never been able to bring yourself to say goodbye to someone once they were gone: your family pets, your grandfather... even your mom. You didn’t think you could stand seeing someone you love just... lying there.
“Well, we can take him back to the clinic if you’d like. And we can send you the ashes.”
You simply nodded because you knew it was the easiest option.
“We’ll give you a little while to decide if you’d like to go in and see him,” he said softly. You nodded again before realizing you should call your dad. You needed a ride home, anyway.
You managed to get the words out over the phone, and he promised you he would be there as soon as possible.
The owner took you inside the house, sitting you down at her kitchen table and announcing she would make you some tea. You sat there, listless, thinking about the last time you’d been in this house. The day you’d decided this would be Mickey’s home.
So, of course, you started crying all over again.
When your dad arrived, you had just managed to dry your cheeks. But seeing him only started the waterworks. He took you into his arms, hugging you so tightly you thought he might actually break one of your ribs. He murmured comforting words in your ear, and you could hear his own tears in his voice.
Once you had both calmed down, your dad talked to the vet as you went to sit in the car. You checked your phone, even though you knew Joo Hyuk would still be sleeping... You probably wouldn’t hear from him for several hours.
Not only did you feel awful about the fact Mickey was gone, you felt awful you weren’t currently on a plane to Korea. You would have to do some research and see if you could get your plane tickets switched, but... how long would it take for you to want to actually do normal things again?
Because right now, you felt like going home, burrowing under your comforter, and sleeping for the next week or so.
The ride back to your apartment was mostly silent, though you did tell your dad you’d had to leave your luggage at the airport. He told you he would take care of it, and you started crying all over again because he was such a wonderful father. 
“Are you sure you’ll be okay?” he asked when he dropped you off at your apartment.
You shrugged. “I guess so. I’m just going to distract myself somehow.”
“I’ll go get your suitcase right now. Do you need anything else while I’m out?”
“No, I don’t think so.” You leaned over and gave him a hug, squeezing your eyes tightly to stop even more tears from falling. “Thank you, dad. I love you.”
“I love you, too, sweetie. Everything will be okay.”
He kissed your cheek before you pulled away, and you promised him you would call him if you did need something.
When you arrived back in your apartment, the first thing you did after shutting the door behind you was change into your pajamas. You knew you wouldn’t be leaving the house at all today, so there was no point in staying in your normal clothes. 
You put on a movie - a happy movie where no one died - and just... sat on your couch. You mainly stared off into space, and the next time you even moved was when your dad knocked on your door to drop off your suitcase.
Your dad also stopped by later on in the day with your favorite fast food meal, wanting to make sure you ate something, even if it was something unhealthy. You managed to finish about half until you’d lost your appetite.
You spent the day crying on and off, watching but not really watching movies, walking around your apartment in sort of a daze... The hours seemed to go by quickly and slowly at the same time.
And...you didn’t hear from Joo Hyuk. You waited for a phone call or a video chat around the time he usually woke up, but you never got one. You never even got a message.
You started to worry when it was almost noon Korean time; he never slept that late, and he surely wouldn’t just not get in touch with you.
When it came to be 10 o’clock, you found you were actually getting sleepy. You’d tried to take naps earlier in the day, but you just couldn’t calm your mind down enough to actually fall asleep. So now you sluggishly got ready for bed, brushing your teeth and washing your face.
Just as you turned the light off in your bathroom, you heard a knock on your door.
Your brow furrowed, wondering why your dad would be here so late at night. You shuffled out of your bedroom and to your front door, unlocking and opening it.
Your heart almost burst out of your ribcage when you saw Joo Hyuk. 
But he didn’t even give you a chance to do or say anything because he immediately stepped up to you, enveloping you in his arms.
“I’m so sorry,” he murmured. You let go of your door, hearing it shut softly behind him, and you brought your arms around him. 
“What are you doing here?” you asked, breathless as you clutched at the back of his shirt, more tears starting to roll down your cheeks.
“I couldn’t be with you after your mom died. I wasn’t going to leave you alone now.”
“I thought you were ignoring me or something,” you admitted, starting to sob.
“I’m sorry, I know I should’ve told you, but I wanted to get here as quickly as I could. There was one seat left on the flight, and I just barely caught it in time.”
You pulled away, bringing your hands up to frame his face. You sniffled, gazing at him and studying him. “You’re really here right now?”
He nodded, his expression one of deep concern as he returned your scrutiny with one of his own. “You shouldn’t have to go through this alone. I know how much he meant to you.”
And there went the tears again. You buried your face in his neck, basically collapsing in his embrace, your body wracked with sobs. You felt him pick you up bridal style, carry you into your room and set you gently on the bed. He immediately laid down beside you, pulling you close to him and stroking your hair and back.
“I didn't -- even -- get to say -- goodbye to him,” you sobbed. “I was going to go up yesterday after work, but it got too late, and I left too early this morning. I should’ve gone. I could’ve ridden him one last time. And now I’ll never get the chance to again.”
These were all things you’d thought to yourself multiple times throughout the day, but it felt so much better actually saying them out loud.
“I’m so sorry, baby,” Joo Hyuk murmured, kissing the top of your head. “Mickey knew you loved him, though.”
“He did?” you mumbled.
“Oh, yes. Every time we went to see him, he was so happy to see you. He loved you just as much as you loved him. He was a lucky horse, and he knew it. He lived a very good life.”
You agreed, nodding slightly against his chest. “Yeah, he did. He was a racehorse for three years, and then my parents adopted him for me for my fourteenth birthday.”
“You had him a long time, for most of his life. He probably didn’t even remember when he was a racehorse.”
“I hope not. He wasn’t treated very well. He was so shy when we first got him.”
“So that shows you how great of an owner you were. How great of a friend you were. He was the friendliest horse I’ve ever met.”
“You haven’t met any other horses,” you pointed out with a watery chuckle.
“Well, you’re right, but still. He was a very, very good horse.”
“He was.”
“And maybe one day you’ll have another horse who is just as special to you. Nobody will ever replace Mickey, of course,” he said softly before placing a kiss on your forehead. “He was there for you through the toughest times in your life. But there’s room in your heart for more than one horse.”
You hummed, though you weren’t sure about that just yet. You loved horses, so you knew you would definitely get another one someday... You just weren’t sure when that day would be.
“I’ll scoot over and make room if I have to,” Joo Hyuk chuckled.
“No, that’s not possible,” you sniffled. “You take up too much room in there.”
You pulled away then, resting your head on the pillow beside him and furrowing your brow. Joo Hyuk reached up and tucked some hair behind your ear, a slight frown pulling at his lips.
“I can’t believe you’re really here,” you whispered. “And I can’t believe I’m not over there.”
“Things don’t always work out the way you plan, huh?”
“No,” you sighed. “Hardly ever.”
He leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on your nose, and your heart actually fluttered a little.
“How long are you staying?” you asked. “Do you even know?”
“I’m not sure... I didn’t really think too much before I just started packing and headed to the airport.”
“You just bought a one-way ticket?”
He nodded, placing a hand on your cheek and caressing your skin with his thumb. “So, really, I could stay here forever if I wanted to.” Which he did.
“Don’t tease me,” you said with a slight smirk.
“...But what if I did?”
“What if you did tease me?”
“No, what if I... just stayed here?”
“Joo Hyuk, you can’t just not go back.”
“Well, I mean, I would go back... but what if I quit my job and then came back here with the rest of my things?”
“You can’t be serious,” you breathed, your brow furrowed deeply.
“So, you wouldn’t want me to?”
“What about your family?”
“Maybe I can convince them to move here, too. Or, if not, I can always go back and visit them.”
“You would quit your job?”
“I work in trading, there are so many job opportunities all around the world. I could easily find something here.”
You opened your mouth to say something else, but you found the words got stuck in your throat.
“Yes, I am willing to quit my job and leave everything I know back in Korea to move here. To be with you. I don’t want to go another three months without seeing you. I want to already be here if something like this happens again. I want to see you every night before I go to sleep and every morning when I wake up. I want to go grocery shopping with you, I want to beg your forgiveness when I leave the toilet seat up for the thousandth time, I want to get passes to Disneyland so we can go whenever we want, I want you to be my daily life. Not just calling you, talking to you on the phone. I want you.”
Of course, you were crying again. You were emotionally all over the place.
“I want you, too,” you choked out. And when Joo Hyuk pulled you back to his chest, you repeated your words through your sobs, clutching at his shirt and never, ever wanting to let go.

Why I haven’t updated recently...
I don’t share a lot of personal trials or tribulations, stresses or doubts on social media. Generally I’m not good at it as a rule. I don’t find my life particularly exciting or dramatic to make it worthwhile to share with others. I only tend to post highlights.
However, Friday, April 13th of 2018, I had perhaps the lowest of the low. I felt the need to get the sorrow and grief off my chest, out into the world… and to hopefully find some relief or ounce of healing in it.
I adopted a kitten at six weeks old, quite a number of years ago. I visited my local pet shop on an odd Saturday out running errands. This pet shop usually had puppies and bunnies in the window on the outside, depending on the season. A note was posted on the door advertising free kittens with a $25 purchase. I had two cats at home already, and not looking for another one. I walked by the window, a litter of four or five sat in a cage near the floor.
One tiny gray tabby looked at me and yowled. He chose me. In an instant, I knew he was for me, and I was for him. I made my $25 purchase, and adopted my free kitten along with my bag of litter and brand new water bowl and food dish. I didn’t have a name for him right away, because I wanted to find something that reflected his personality. Reflected his personality, and highlighted something I was particularly passionate about.
For the first few days, he was kitten. Little kitten. I remember that I locked him away in my room while I went to work. I wanted to be around to integrate him in with the other two cats. When I returned home after a particularly long day at work, I came back to a room of pandemonium. Belongings and clothing and bedsheets were strewn about the room, and not as I left it nine hours earlier. But my little gray kitten sat perched in the middle of the mess, looking regal and proud… and shamelessly responsible.
He hit my room like a hurricane. My little hurricane. It somehow worked out that I was particularly keen on the band Kane at the time. Thus became his name: Kane.
For years, he was my constant companion, my friend, my family, and my passion. Where I lived revolved around him, as he was mine. I couldn’t leave him behind. I had a responsibility to this feline, and I would do anything to make him happy and see that he was provided for. Even when I went overseas for a few months to visit England, I searched and searched for the right catsitter to care for him while I was away. I wanted to be sure that he would be calm and fed and watched after.
His personality emerged soon after I got him. Independent as he was… he determined most things, most times. He was boss, he called the shots. A grumpy child he was, and I loved him to bits for it. Dominate, assured, regal, everything you would see in a tiger. And he was…  he was my tiger. Long, lean, muscular…  he would stalk back and forth in the living room watching a bird in a tree outside the living room window. He’d grumble and growl if I dared rub his belly when he didn’t want it. He’d randomly go into a distant room and yowl to himself.
I loved him with all my heart. The best kitty… even in his grumpy state, I adored every whisker, every furry bit. As he got older, he mellowed and he became a love. A drool baby that would purr and purr and purr. He’d follow me into the bathroom, hop up on the vanity to jump on my back as soon as I sat down. He’d share kissees…. Kitty kisses that is. Licks to my forehead and my hair to show his affection… occasionally, on his terms.
When I curled up on the couch to binge watch a show, he’d join me to doze on my legs. He sat on top of the refrigerator and survey over his domain. He would sleep under covers and duvets. I never knew whether the lump in the bed was him or my lack of straightening the bed.
I wish I could outline and put down into words all the things I loved about him. His head butt against my leg when he felt particularly affectionate. His lean into my tickle. Or his habit of licking my fingers so I ‘cleaned’ his head and ears when I tickled him. His rules, he always called the shots.
About a year ago we noticed that he was losing weight. The vet originally wasn’t too concerned. He was a big brute of a cat… 16lbs of muscle. And at first, it wasn’t so concerning. Fast forward a bunch of months, and he looked like he was losing more weight. He didn’t fight the other two for his place at the food bowls. We took him to the vet. All his levels were relatively normal, his kidneys were borderline high. He had a heart murmur, which they didn’t feel needed treatment. Older cats sometimes develop these health concerns but they aren’t scary serious.
But then my Kane stopped eating. The vet suggested everything from changing his diet, to providing real chicken, boiled and raw, human baby food. They rechecked his xrays and couldn’t find any actual blockages. His rescans of his levels showed elevated stress on the kidneys. This is natural if the cat is feeling sick and won’t eat.
The vet suggested fluid injections daily for a week, and a twice daily oral medication to restart the kidneys. And it worked! After running to the vet daily for ten days for his fluids. The stress on the kidneys fell back within normal range, but Kane still refused to eat. The vet suggested steroids and an appetite stimulant while Kane’s weight continued to plummet.
The steroids helped, and Kane began eating again. He felt well enough to finally eat. But the steroids were a bandaid. After the fluids and the steroids, we still couldn’t be sure that he was pooping as he should. We tried desperately to feed him a laxative concoction that the vet gave us….  But Kane wouldn’t eat what he didn’t want to.
We were in last Sunday, when the vet prescribed the steroids, and he said that he wanted to see us again on Tuesday. On Sunday, Kane weighed 7lbs, 12 ounces. On Tuesday after the steroids and eating tons of food, Kane weighed 7lbs, 6 ounces. That’s when the vet told us that it was the worst case scenario.
Kane had lymphoma. He felt a swelling of his intestines that he couldn’t feel before. This disease was eating away at whatever nutrients we fed him, burning it away before he could gain any real benefit from it. Because the disease was so aggressive, he, the vet, couldn’t in good conscience prescribe or treat it with chemotherapy or anything else. This evil disease would claim my kitty and there wasn’t anything we could do. Not even really to prolong his life.
The steroids would help for a spell, but not very long. And we were looking at the possibility of choosing when to do the kinder thing of putting him down or let the lymphoma eat away at him until he succumbed. How the hell do you make that choice? How do you choose to part with a loved one, a family member? The impossibility of it shook me to my core. I never had to choose before.
I’ve had cats all my life, and I never had to make the choice. All my previous cats lived until old age, and they knew when their time came. This was different. I was watching my tiger baby disappear before my eyes and it was only a matter of time before this awful, awful disease took him away from me.
Kane became lethargic and depressed in the days that followed. It was almost as if he understood what the vet said in that room, and he gave up. His legs became weaker and he became frailer. Because of the steroids, he was still getting up and eating, but the rest of the time he would just lie prone on the floor or roomie’s bed. It was heartwrenching. Absolutely heartbreaking to see my once proud man reduced to a sack of skin and bones.
I knew it was a matter of time and it was becoming a quality of life issue. So I took Thursday off from work and spent the day with him. Napping with him. Snuggling with him. Burrowing under blankets with him. He still grumped at me when I got too affectionate, so I knew my Kane was still there. He climbed on me at one point and did his best bear hug. He used to do this a lot in the mornings. He would crawl on top of me, and collapse himself over me like a blanket, his paw curled around me.
He licked me and let me clean his ears. But I knew he was tired, and his little body was giving up on him. I was also facing a weekend away with roomie. We had booked tickets for a weekend of theatre in New York City long before Kane got as sick as he did. We both didn’t want to leave him, because he could hurt himself. He had no muscle mass left and if he jumped on the counter or off the counter, he could break a bone or strain himself too much.
I woke up wicked early on Friday morning, knocked on roomies door before her alarm to visit with her and Kane. We had talked about putting him in the vet’s boarding house for the weekend, but as we cried it out with Kane between us, that he wasn’t going to get better. How could we ask someone to watch over him every minute? How could we ask someone to keep him alive, administer his steroid treatment, only for him to lie there?
And the fucking awful choice made itself clear. I was keeping him alive for me, because I didn’t want to live without him. But he wasn’t really living anymore. He was crashing and fast. I read article after article after article. One thing stuck me in my research. Cats are a proud animal, they don’t show pain in the same ways that humans do… or at all.
My Kane could’ve been suffering. I couldn’t let him suffer. I loved him too much for that, I couldn’t even fathom that as an option for him… just for me. I couldn’t ask him to live in pain for me. He was for me, but I was for him. In being for him, I had to do what was best for him. I had to set him free.
I wish I could put into the words the torture and the agony it was to carry him out of our apartment, load him in the carry and into the vets for the last time. There simply isn’t an expression to watch your animal perk up on stress to watch traffic, and see his personality emerge again, knowing that he only had minutes left. But when we got to the vets, Kane wilted again. He laid on the examination table, the life completely drained from him because of this terrible disease that had raided his body.
I signed the papers, asked for a private cremation, requested a clay paw print, and gave the vet permission to put my baby to sleep. I couldn’t stay there and watch. As a pet mommy, I wanted to be there to the very end. But I honest to God couldn’t watch the life leave his body. I just… couldn’t. I loved him, and will love him still.
I wasn’t there when he was born, but I was his mommy. I chose not to be there when he died, so that I could always remember him the way I want to, because I was his mommy.
Donna, my roommate, and my sister, shared mommy responsibilities. She’s been there for so much of Kane’s life. So when I refer to him as my baby, and my tiger, and my handsome man, she has her own version of him too. She very much had ownership in him and she helped me and more importantly she helped him. I don’t mean to discount or reduce her role in his life. These are merely endearments that I called Kane and will continue to.
I just hope that Kane had a good life, that he felt comfortable, and that he somehow knew how incredibly loved he was… and is!

ARKANSAS
2021 Apr 24 (Sat) – Did some errands today.  Got fuel, picked up groceries, and bought pet food.
    Vanleigh had a catered breakfast this morning.  Following that, they had a Q&A with Leigh Tiffin.  We left early because we had an appointment with techs to make some repairs on our RV.  Our appointment time of 9:30 a.m. came and went without anyone showing up.  At 10:30, Paul went over to find out what was happening only to be informed that they were waiting until after the Q&A. That infuriated me!  I wanted to be there for the Q&A but had to leave for the appointment that never happened.  The techs showed up at 12:30 and worked on our Magic Fan for about an hour. They even wound up reprogramming the Spyder Control Panel.  But, they were not able to make the repair.  They are going to send us a new fan.
    After our catered dinner tonight, they played Survey Says, a take-off on Family Feud.  It was cute but a little irritating.  We left after the first group challenge.
 2021 Apr 23 (Fri) – Paul brought the truck to the garage at 7 AM this morning. He had to take a taxi back to the campground.  The mechanic called later and said the truck started several times with no problem. He sees no sign of starter problems. Paul instructed him to change the starter any way.  With his years of working with heavy equipment, he’s got an ear for trouble with engines.  
    The weather is forecast to be crappy for most of the rally.  Thunderstorms are due in today and tomorrow.  Sunday is supposed to clear up but that’s when the rally ends.
    The seminars started at 8 AM. There was one scheduled for each of the first 3 hours, then lunch, then 3 seminars in the afternoon, then dinner and more singing.
 2021 Apr 22 (Thu) – The Vanleigh Owner’s Rally started today.  We went over at 1 PM to sign in and get our goodie bag. Some goodie bag.  The rally schedule, two pieces of advertising from vendors at the rally, a bag, a lanyard and ID card.  Activities will be taking place in an large open-air pavilion.
    At 5 PM, we went over for dinner. A caterer was set up in a tent where came in and they served us as we moved along the line.  There was BBQ pulled pork and pulled chicken, cole slaw, beans, corn salad, potato salad, and a scrumptious brownie.  After dinner, there was entertainment by Nick Dover and an employee of Vanleigh who played guitar and sang.  It was fun but the temperature really dropped.  It was cold.
    While getting propane, Paul had trouble restarting the truck.  He thinks it’s the starter going bad.  We called the local Ford dealership but as usual, the earliest appointment is not for at least a week.  So Paul called a local garage and arranged to bring the truck in tomorrow.
 2021 Apr 21 (Wed) – It was 36 degrees this morning.  Brrrrr!  We had a minor disaster overnight.  Paul heard the water leak alarm in the basement go off around 2:30 a.m. this morning. He got up and went outside to see what was going on.  There was water dripping into the basement.  It was coming from the bathroom area.  He came back in to the RV to check it out.  The floor had about a half-inch of water on it and the throw rugs were soaked.  He lifted the toilet seat and saw that the toilet bowl was overflowing.  It turned out that a piece of toilet paper had not fully flushed but got stuck in the valve closure.  Because it wasn’t fully closed, the water kept running and filled the tank.  After it filled with the water, it overflowed.  Fortunately, we dumped the tanks this morning so they were not full of waste.  It could have been so much worse.  Paul emptied the tank and I scrubbed down the bathroom.  We took the wet rugs from the bathroom and in the basement to the laundry room and washed and dried them.
    We went to the Red Oak Fillin Station for lunch.  It was a cute café with a woodland decoration (stuffed animals and grasses around the room) and full.  There was only one table left when we walked in.  The food was very good and the waitresses very attentive.  
    After lunch, we went to Garvin Woodland Gardens.  It is a botanical gardens that covers about 100 acres of flowering shrubs, trees and plants.  The Children’s Garden was delightful.  There were lots of large rocks and water treatments among the trees that made it nice to walk among.  There was an amazing chapel in the woods.  The Anthony Chapel has clear glass walls that make it look like you are sitting outside among the trees.  It was like the chapel we toured in Bella Vista.  The same architect probably designed both of them.  I took a fall walking along the “natural” path and banged up my knee.

    After dinner, Linda (another Vilano owner) came by and invited us to join a group over by her trailer. We met Linda and several other folks who were around the campfire tonight at the Tampa RV Show in January last year.  There were also some new Vilano owners at the campfire as well as an SOB couple (Some Other Brand).  
 2021 Apr 20 (Tue) – We packed up and left Little Rock AFB FamCamp at 9:30 a.m.  It was an easy hour and a half drive to Catherine’s Landing in Hot Springs.  The campground is a resort. All the sites are paved with barbecues, fire pits, and picnic tables.  The pool is open, heated and very inviting.  They have a disc golf course and lake activities with Kayak and canoe rentals.  We are here for five nights for a Vanleigh Owner’s Rally.  The rally doesn’t officially start until Thursday but we’ve been watching Vanleigh’s coming in all day.  There will be about 100 rigs here, I think.
2021 Arp 19 (Mon) – It was cool when we got up this morning – in the low 40s. I can’t believe it’s still this cold. It’s just 2 weeks to Memorial Day and we’re putting the electric blanket on at night.  And there’s a freeze warning in effect for tomorrow.  What. Is. Going. On???
    We did the laundry this morning.  They have 2 washers and 2 dryers at $1 apiece. Unfortunately, one washer’s spin cycle did not work.  So we had to rewash one load.  The dryers worked fine.
    After the laundry was put away, we went into town.  We bought propane at Camping World.  The cost was double the normal price.  Why in the world would propane prices have gone up??
    We ate at the Whole Hog Café.  It was a barbecue place and the food was pretty good.  On the way back to the campground, we stopped at a plane display on base.  There were several aircraft on static display in a park. We walked around and read the plaques describing each aircraft, its origin, cost, and history.  It was interesting.

 2021 Apr 18 (Sun) – We watched church service live stream on FaceBook this morning. Then we ran errands – got fuel, picked up groceries at Kroger, bought some wine at the BX, and parts at Lowe’s. When Paul was repairing the seat on the toilet bowl, the washer fell into the hole.  He had to pick up another nut and washer, which also fell into the bowl. After some cussin’ and fussin’, he wound up using the old hardware.
      We searched for places to have lunch. We have to keep in mind that down in the bible belt, most stores and restaurants are closed and the one or two that are open are usually packed.  After going through a number of options (all closed), we found an Italian restaurant with a 20 minute wait.  The food was very good and we bought leftovers home.
     For dinner, we enjoyed shish kabobs. However, they were overcooked. We’ll have to experiment for the right amount of time to barbecue them.  Having never cooked them before, it’s a learning experience for us.
2021 Apr 17 (Sat) – We stayed in the campground all day.  It was cold and overcast.  Paul worked mostly on trying to get our route laid out from the rally next week to Washington, D.C.  The internet is slow and it is frustrating.  I made reservations for a flight back to New York on May 16.  My sister, Susan, used her points to pay for my ticket.  That was very nice.
 2021 Apr 16 (Fri) – We stayed in most of the day.  It was a cold, dreary, drizzly day.  The fireplace was on all day.  I don’t think it went over 60 degrees today.  At 5 p.m. I took Paul to Barnhill’s Steak and Buffet.  The place had a very extensive buffet selection. We were surprised since all this kind of thing was stopped with the pandemic.  But this place had a robust buffet with all kinds of delicious foods.  
 2021 Apr 15 (Thu) – We went to Papito’s Mexican Grill for lunch.  The place was very colorful with beautiful tile work all over the restaurant.  The employees were Spanish and the food was good.  It all felt very authentic.
    After lunch, we drove to Camping World. Paul is still looking for parts to permanently install the cell phone booster antenna.  They did not have what he wanted.  He couldn’t find the parts online either.  Looks like they just don’t make what he wants.  He’ll have to jury-rig something.
    Since we were out and about and the weather was pleasant, I suggested we take a ride over to the State Capitol. We had not seen it the last time we came through this area.  We don’t know why.  It might have been a weekend and the building was closed.  It was open and we went in.  There were four floors open to the public.  The House of Representatives was in session and we sat in the gallery for a little while, watching the proceedings.  One rep would get up, describe the bill he wanted to present, questions would be asked, then a vote was taken with the reps voting AYE, NAY, or VISITING (meaning they are present but not voting).  Out of three proposals made, two passed and one did not.  It was interesting.  The building was nice, but not spectacular.  The rotunda was four floors high with a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling.  It can be lowered all the way to the first floor.  That’s a looooonng cord!   After exploring the building, we walked around the outside looking at the statues on the grounds.  One exhibit represented the Little Rock 9 with statues of nine students. This is in honor of the black students who were bussed to the Little Rock High School at the height of the civil rights era.

2021 Apr 14 (Wed) – It rained most of the morning until about 11 a.m.  At least it wasn’t thunderstorms.  I called the office this afternoon and complained loud and long about the lack of electric.  A staff person in the office overheard my call and came over to see what he could do. He couldn’t solve the problem so he returned to the office and related the issue.  His boss suggested we plug into the 30-amp outlet rather than the 50-amp outlet.  The staffer returned with the suggestion.  We did it and voila!  We have a 30-amp hookup.  Not as good as a 50-amp hookup but better than limited electric.
    We went out to the Fried Pie Shop for lunch.  Paul read about it online.  It’s like a pot pie you hold in your hand.  I got a chicken vegetable pie and Paul ordered a beef vegetable pie.  We got a blueberry pie for dessert.  The wait was long.  *sigh*  When our order finally arrived, it was very hot; fresh out of the fryer.  I burned my mouth and my tongue was numb for the rest of the day.  The pies were OK; kind of bland.  Oh, well.  We tried something new.
    After lunch, we went to Lowe’s so Paul could pick up a connector for the antenna to the cell booster.  They didn’t have what we wanted.  We then drove to True Value.  They didn’t have the part either.  Then we went to Camping World and they also did not have what we wanted. So Paul changed what he planned to do. When the weather clears up, he’ll install a permanent connection.
     On the way back to the campground, we stopped at the base exchange looking for some wine and liquor.  It turned out to have a limited selection and we couldn’t get everything we wanted.  
2021 Apr 13 (Tue) – We packed up and left Memphis, TN at 9:30 a.m.  After a stop at the dump station and a hearty good-bye to the awful smell hanging over the campground, we drove 3 hours to Little Rock AFB FamCamp.  It is a small but pleasant campground.  Most sites are paved except the few in the tree line, of which we have one.  Our site is one grass.  After set up, I noticed we didn’t have any electric.  Paul checked the stanchion and found that one of the legs is not working.

    We drove over to Outdoor Recreation to pay and point out the lack of electric at our campsite.  The ditsy girl behind the counter said a work order had been put in and the problem would hopefully be fixed soon.  No indication when that would happen.  Paul rigged up an extension so we could have some electric in the trailer.  The fridge and TV are working and I have a plug for the computer.  We grilled steak on the barbecue since the toaster oven is not working (the toaster oven is the most used appliance in our rig).  At least the stove is propane and I was able to make side dishes to the steak.
    We are at a new phase in our relationship.  Paul has begun to speak in low tones.  I am often asking him to repeat what he said.  He is also losing his hearing.  Many of our conversations are filled with “I thought you said …” or “I heard you say …” I guess it’s kind of funny but it sure can be frustrating.

In a nutshell: It all happens in one day, so it’s gonna be quite a long journey ahead. Follow the Belle Epoque girls’ journey in celebrating their loneliest, to the most memorable Valentine’s Day of their lives.

After dropping Jiwon off at Belle Epoque, Sungmin went back home to rest. 
When he laid himself on the bed, the conversation he had with Chungwoon last year came to his mind.
5th October 2017
Chungwon: Hyung, you like Jiwon-sunbae, right? Then why aren’t you guys dating?
Sungmin: Is being in a relationship better than being friends?
Chungwon: Eeey, Hyung, what happens if Jiwon gets herself a boyfriend? It’s not that you don’t like her, but you’re scared of confessing to her, right?
This statement really made Sungmin’s blood boil, he cursed at Chungwon for lecturing him on his love life. 
Sungmin pretended to sleep, but he was kept awake all night, thinking about the possibility that another guy might really like Jiwon and take her away from him. 
Honestly, some of the things Chungwon said was right, but his pride and ego as a guy refused to agree to it.
Sungmin himself is a motae solo. He doesn’t exactly know how to approach the opposite gender, and he’s THAT awkward when it comes to romance and love.
 He does watch a lot of romantic films, dramas, and even read the most cliché romance novel out there, but theory and practice are two drastically different things. 
So, putting all the things he learnt through watching all those cheesy romance on screen together with his current state of friendship with Jiwon, is challenging.
For the first time, Sungmin actually put much thought on his feelings, even though it stays as a monologue, at least he’s being honest with himself.
Jiwon is my precious friend. I honestly don’t know how she feels about me. I’m afraid that she’ll reject me and we can’t get back together as friends. Even if she accepts me and be in a relationship, what will happen if we breakup? Can we stay as close friends again? I’m so afraid to lose her. More than being selfish, I’d rather have her beside me as a really close friend.
Sungmin paused his monologue as a notification came out on his phone screen. He opened it and saw messages from Jiwon.

‘Is this even real?’ Sungmin thought to himself. Sungmin was startled and he hesitated a lot, but he agreed to go anyway. ‘It’s in a 5 Star restaurant’. The place itself is already suspicious, ‘oh well… Maybe she really wanted to thank me.’
14th February 2018, Morning at Belle Epoque
8.00 a.m.
Yeeun woke up to her morning alarm she set at 8 a.m. She reached out for her phone and swiped the off button to make the alarm stop. She sat down on her bed and stretched her body with a smile on her face. 
She saw Jiwon who’s still fast asleep on her bed and quickly grabbed her towel and clothes she has prepared the night before, and went to the bathroom to get ready. 
Yeeun wanted to doll herself up cause she’s looking forward to her date with Hochang. She doesn’t know where he’s gonna take her, but she does have high hopes.
As Yeeun did her makeup, Hochang messaged her to meet him at the subway station, in which Yeeun replied: Ok ^.^
9:33 a.m.
Back at Belle Epoque, Kang-eonni called Jiwon early in the morning that she has set her up for a blind date with an acquaintance.
Jiwon: Hello?
Yina: Annyeong, good morning!
Jiwon: Why are you calling me so early in the morning?
Yina: I’ve set a blind date for you today with my acquaintance
Jiwon: Is he handsome?
Yina: More than handsome, I think he will suit you perfectly.
Jiwon: Arasseo. Where is it?
Yina: Villa Sortino, 8 p.m.
Jiwon: That 5 star restaurant?!
Yina: Eo, what’s wrong?
Jiwon: Ani, I’m super excited! Kang-eonni, yeokshi… you’re the best!
Yina: Arasseo, have fun! Thank me later. The table is reserved under your name okay?
Jiwon: Hm…
10.00 a.m.
The doorbell rang as Jo Eun who just went out of the bathroom after brushing her teeth, opened the front door without looking at the monitor. 
She almost fainted as she realized who’s standing in front of her. It’s Seo Janghoon in his military uniform and cap.
Before Janghoon could say a word, suddenly the door in front of him was slammed hard and it closed. 
Eun who’s inside didn’t know what to do when she found out her boyfriend is standing just outside. She rubbed her eyes to check if she’s actually dreaming, but she’s not. 
She opened the door again and asked coldly,
Eun: Why are you here?
Janghoon: Is that the first thing you have to say to your boyfriend who’s been gone for 5 months?
Eun: I freaking missed you. You! Why didn’t you call me? I was waiting for your call day and night.
Janghoon who couldn’t stand looking at Eun who was sulking, tip-toed to kiss her lips.
Janghoon: I missed you too. Should we go on a date today?
Eun’s expression instantly brightened when Janghoon said that, showing her excitement for their Valentine’s day date.
Janghoon: I’ll wait for you downstairs. Call me when you’re ready.
Eun: Arasseo. See you later!
Subway Station
11.25 a.m.
Yeeun sped up as she saw Hochang waiting in front of the station, looking more stylish than usual, still with his glasses on, though. 
‘He looks great,’ Yeeun thought silently.
Yeeun wrapped her arms around Hochang’s and asked
Yeeun: So where are you taking me?
Hochang: It’s a secret. Let’s go eat first! What do you want to have?
Yeeun: Anything!
Hochang: Wanna have beef stew? I know a famous place people have been recommending.
Yeeun: Hmm, okay, we can have that
Hochang led Yeeun to go down the subway station as they head for the restaurant.
Restaurant
12.08 p.m.
As it’s a very famous place, all the tables are occupied, but luckily Hochang and Yeeun secured a table.
Hochang: Eat it deliciously, okay? I wanna see you eat a lot today, it’s gonna be a long day.
Yeeun: Since when did my boyfriend become this caring? Arasseo, I’ll eat well!
‘Forget about diet,’ Yeeun thought. ‘When I eat with Hochang, I never had a problem enjoying whatever’s in front of me.’
As Yeeun ate from the bowl of beef stew happily in front of Hochang, he smiled…
After lunch, Yeeun initiated that the two of them watch a movie
Yeeun: Can we go watch a movie? I’ve been wanting to watch this movie.
Hochang: Of course we can, let’s go!
Movie Theater
14.05 p.m.
Hochang: What movie is it?
Yeeun: The new movie of 50 shades.
Hochang: What?! Are you sure? (Hochang asked as he felt awkward watching that kind of movie with his girlfriend)
Yeeun: Eo, I’m sure. You’re an adult already. There’s no need to be so scared
Hochang: (He tried to give in, as all he wanted to do that day is to make Yeeun happy). Arasseo, I’ll buy the tickets and snacks.
Theatre Room
14.30 p.m.
The lights went off as the screen started to play advertisements for a long 15 minutes….
The scene in the movie showed the main characters’ passionate lovemaking. Hochang swallowed his saliva and clenched his fist hard, as he’s not used to it (well, actually who doesn’t watch that kind of movies? But Yeeun is beside him, so he’s oddly nervous).
Yeeun who saw what Hochang did, quickly grabbed his right fist and held it to assure him that it’s not a big deal and that he’s gonna be okay. Hochang who realized Yeeun’s gesture loosened his fist.
16.40 p.m.
Yeeun and Hochang walked out of the theater, and when Hochang became aware that it’s still 4.40, he thought, ‘oh shit, it’s only 4.40?! What to do…’
Yeeun: What are we gonna do now?
Hochang: …
Yeeun: Mwoya, I thought you had everything planned?
As Yeeun criticized him, he scratched his head and got a little nervous.
Hochang: Yeeun-ah… Actually…
Before Hochang finished his words, suddenly someone called Yeeun and Hochang from afar.
Yeeun: Eunjae-ya! Eun-ah!
Eunjae: Sunbae! What are you doing here?
Yeeun: We just finished watching a movie
Eunjae: aah, okay…
Yeeun: What is this? Now you guys are having a double date together? Janghoon, how come you’re here? I thought you’re in the army?
Eun: Eo, Yeeun-sunbae, Janghoon received a 5-day off holiday. Isn’t it so cool?
Yeeun: Wah, you’re so lucky!
Janghoon scoffed: Hahahahah, I know. She should be thankful that her boyfriend is working so hard so that he can go home to meet her before the 2 years period.
Eun glared at Janghoon for his petty statement.
Chungwon: anyway, Hochang-hyung and Yeeun-sunbae, do you want to follow us? We’re going to the amusement park.
Hochang: It’s a great idea. Yeeun-ah, do you wanna go with them?
Yeeun: well, alright!
Eunjae: Let’s go!
Maybe God is with Hochang this time. Without meeting the two couples, Yeeun’s mood could’ve gone down in a slope now.
Amusement Park
17.20 p.m.
While the girls walked in front hand-in-hand, being excited with the occasion, the guys walked together behind, staring at their girlfriends’ backs.
Hochang: Hey, what to do… I have a reservation dinner at Namsan Tower today at 8 p.m.
Chungwon: waa Hyung, you prepared a lot for today, huh
Janghoon: Gwaenchana, you can stay here for about 1.5 hours and just take taxi from here. It won’t take long, 30 minutes I guess. Check the map.
Hochang: But isn’t 1.5 hours too fast to spend in here?
Janghoon: don’t worry. We’ve got your back.
Chungwon: Eo, anyway Yeeun-sunbae would be tired already since she already watched a movie with you, no?
Hochang: Arasseo. I’ll rely on you, ok?
The couples rode so many attractions at the theme park, and Yeeun couldn’t believe the awkward Hochang that she knew is actually an extreme-ride maniac. He’s so fun when it comes to amusement park activities.
Chungwon and Eunjae came back wearing couple head bands, those cute ones that could pass a children’s accessories. Eun and Janghoon stared at the sight with total awkwardness, as they both thought those matching things are cheesy and childish. But what to do, they’re inexperienced when it comes to dating, so they don’t know exactly what to do.
By now, the couples have separated from each other and are now doing their own things..
Janghoon grabbed Eun by her hand and said,
Janghoon: Eun-ah, let’s go ride that (while pointing up)
It’s a ferris wheel. 
Eun nodded and held Janghoon’s hand tight as they walked past the sea of couples who seemed to be enjoying themselves at the amusement park too.
The sun has set and the sky has gone darker at 6.30 p.m.
Eun and Janghoon queued in line, waiting for their turn to hop on the ferris wheel. As they reached the front line of the queue the operator told them to be careful as they step onto the capsule, because it’s not gonna stop.
Finally, It’s just the two of them. For the past hours, they’ve been hearing loud noises of people in the amusement park. People screaming, laughing, and talking casually.
Eun: It feels nice, and the night view from here is so pretty.
Janghoon: are you happy?
Eun: hm…
Without them realizing, they’re reaching the top of the ferris wheel, and without notice, Janghoon told Eun earnestly,
Janghoon: Eun-ah…
Eun kept her eyes on Janghoon, waiting for what he’s about to say.
Janghoon: Saranghae.
Janghoon leaned towards Eun who was sitting in front of him, and kissed her as the capsule reached the highest peak of the wheel. 
It was delicate and pure, reminding Eun of their first kiss outside Belle Epoque.
19.00 p.m.
Hochang: Yeeun-ah, are you tired?
Yeeun: A little…
Hochang: Actually, I still have something I wanted to do with you
Yeeun: what is it?
Hochang: Let’s go.
Hochang and Yeeun rode on a taxi outside the amusement park, heading to their last destination of the special day.
19. 45 p.m.
Yeeun: Namsan? (she asked with a big smile on her face)
Hochang: Hm…
Hochang held Yeeun’s hand and headed towards n.Grill, a French restaurant located at the top of Namsan Tower. 
Hochang made a reservation in this restaurant from a month before. That’s how much he put his thought to give Yeeun a nice Valentine’s day experience.
As they reached the restaurant, the waiter showed them to their table. The view was so breathtaking. Yeeun’s face was bright in awe of the night view of Seoul, she couldn’t feel any happier.
Yeeun: Kwon Hochang…
Hochang: ?
Yeeun: I’m delighted. I didn’t expect you had prepared this much for today. I’m sorry if I hurt your feeling today after the movie.
Hochang: Yeeun-ah, no, you don’t have to feel sorry for anything.
The food that has been ordered in advance by Hochang came out not long after they arrived. 
Eating in a fancy restaurant isn’t a rare occasion for Yeeun, but that night was special, because she could be herself in front of Hochang. She doesn’t have to suppress her desire to eat, unlike when she had to do it in from of her mom. 
Moreover, Seoul’s night view and the dots of lights painted the glass window beautifully, as Yeeun and Hochang had their first and most romantic dinner.
19.40 p.m.
Yoon-sunbae was about to head home when she had the time to check her kkaotalk messages.
Jaehwan:
I’m sorry.
I can’t go to Seoul today,
I know it’s a special day
I’ll visit on the weekend.
Love you ❤
Jinmyung understood how difficult it is for Jaehwan to visit her in Seoul. The last time she met him was during New Year’s celebration over a month ago, where they went to a countdown show together in the cold, cold winter. She missed Jaehwan so much, but she knew distance is there to halt them from meeting.
Jinmyung types on her phone before finally sending her reply:
Jinmyung:
Gwaenchana-yo.
See you this weekend ❤
Jinmyung kept her phone back in her blazer pocket and forced a smile, before walking outside the office to go back home.
Villa Sortino, Seoul
19.45 p.m.
Sungmin arrived at the restaurant first. He parked his car on the side of the road and went in.
At the reception
Receptionist: Yes sir, how can I help you?
Sungmin: There’s a reservation under the name Song Jiwon?
Receptionist: Yes, there is… For two people? But you came alone?
Sungmin: Ah, yes… She’ll come later
Receptionist: Okay, let me take you to your table.
Sungmin sat down at the table while waiting for Jiwon. He turned his head left and right to observe the restaurant.
10 minutes later, he saw a figure he couldn’t recognize approaching the table with the receptionist earlier.
As they got closer, Sungmin couldn’t believe his eyes as the girl he’s known for his whole uni life is standing in front of him, probably looking the prettiest in the course of her life. 
Her hair was straight with waves at the bottom, and the dress she was wearing was pink, decorated with delicate floral embroidery. Not to mention, she smelt so damn good.
Sungmin’s zoning out moment stopped as Jiwon exclaimed
Jiwon: Ya! You! Why are you here?!
Sungmin: Me? You’re the one who invited me here. What do you mean?!
Jiwon: What? What are you talking about? I never— Aish! Kang-eonni!
Jiwon grasped that Kang-eonni must’ve set her up with Sungmin. ‘Why?’ Jiwon thought hard to herself.
Sungmin: are you disappointed?
Jiwon: I don’t know.
Sungmin: Just sit down.
Jiwon followed Sungmin’s words as he told her to sit opposite him.
Sungmin: What do you want to eat?… Steak?… Pas-
Sungmin was about to say pasta, when he remembered what Jiwon said about pasta last year when he caught her outside the restaurant, spying on him.
‘Do you think pasta is just a meal? What is pasta? It’s a meal for a couple.’
Jiwon: I’ll just go with Pasta.
Sungmin gulped in nervousness as Jiwon decided on that. But in the end, Sungmin ordered pasta too, for don’t know what reason.
In the middle of eating…
Jiwon: Well, since we’re here already, why don’t the both of us just do what people do during blind dates?
Sungmin, who doesn’t know what people talk about in blind dates (as he never went to one), responded,
Sungmin: What do people do during blind dates?
Jiwon: Well, they ask about each other’s interests, hobbies, what kind of food they like, what countries they’ve been to… Things like that? But for me, I like to make it extra special. Drinks!
Sungmin: Forget about those background checks. Think about this. What do I not know about you? and what do you not know about me? Can you think of any?
Jiwon: (Jiwon hesitated a lot and said), well, we’ve known each other enough to know everything about each other.
Sungmin: Right? Okay, let’s go get some drinks, then.
Jiwon: ooooo, Im Sungmin, did you get striked by a lightning? you’re so lively now.
Sungmin just smirked as Jiwon commented nonchalantly. 
To be honest, he just wanted to spend Valentine’s Day together with Jiwon for a longer time, that’s why he asked her to go have some drinks.
As they both finished eating their pasta, they headed to the cashier to pay the bills. 
Sungmin grabbed his wallet from his pocket and paid their meals in full. Before they left the restaurant, the receptionist commented.
Receptionist: You two look good together. I hope you’ve enjoyed your date on Valentine’s Day. Hope to see you again on your next visit. Thank you!
Jiwon thought, ‘Valentine’s Day?’
Jiwon: Today’s Valentine’s Day?! (Jiwon asked Sungmin as she just realized the date).
Sungmin: eo, why?
Jiwon: Then what am I doing?! I should be doing something romantic with a guy now.
Sungmin’s heart plunged as he heard Jiwon’s statement. But he quickly brushed it off.
Sungmin: Let’s go have some drinks. And what’s with that pout? You look ugly.
Jiwon followed Sungmin as they headed towards the car.
21.58 p.m.
Sungmin parked his car in the basement of a high-end apartment complex. 
Jiwon: Ya, where are we?
Sungmin: It’s my place.
Jiwon: are you rich?
Sungmin: no, my parents are.
Jiwon, who just found out about this, nodded in acceptance. 
She thought she knew everything about him, but no, actually, she doesn’t. It made her realize just how mysterious Sungmin is.
Jiwon: But why are we at your place? Aren’t we supposed to have some drinks?
Sungmin: I have lots of soju and beers at home
Jiwon: You brat, why did you never ask me to come have a drink at your place?
Sungmin: Molla. Let’s go.
Sungmin and Jiwon went inside the apartment building’s lift, and Sungmin pressed the level number ‘25’.
Sungmin entered the passcode to his apartment door, and when the door opened, Jiwon was in awe at Sungmin’s luxurious apartment. 
Jiwon: Do you live alone in here?
Sungmin: Hm...
She put her bag in the living room, walked around the open space, and even went inside every room she could find in that enormous apartment.
Jiwon: Ya Im Sungmin, how come you never had a girlfriend? If you told them you live in an apartment like this, girls will line up for you everyday.
Inside Sungmin’s heart, he thought, ‘you dense girl, it’s you that I like. How am I supposed to be with another girl?’ 
Sadly, he couldn’t say it out loud. Yet.
Sungmin left Jiwon to wander around the apartment, and prepared the drinks and glasses from the kitchen counter. Sungmin put the bottles of soju and beer on the coffee table in the living room.
Jiwon came out of one of the rooms and joined Sungmin who was already sitting down on the carpet in the living room.
There was silence between these man and woman as they realized that they’re the only ones in that place now, isolated from any other human beings and disturbances.
Sungmin poured himself a shot of Soju. 
Seeing this, Jiwon gave him a word of critic.
Jiwon: ckckck, how old-fashioned. Here, I���ll make you the best somaek (soju + beer) you’ll ever taste in your life.
Sungmin kept quiet and let Jiwon mix it for him and herself. 
The two hit their refreshing glasses of somaek before gulping it down in one shot. They let go a sigh of satisfaction from the burning sensation.
Sungmin: You’re good, (while smiling).
Jiwon: See? What did I tell you?
Sungmin: hey by the way, how long have we known each other for?
Jiwon: We first met during orientation, so 4 years?… It’s been 4 years already?! Why is it so fast… I feel like I just met you a few months ago.
Sungmin, realizing that they’ve known each other for 4 years, thought about how long it’s been since he literally never landed another woman except Jiwon in his heart.
The two kept drinking and drinking while at the same time sharing so many stories they have yet shared in those 4 years. 
Maybe it’s the magical effect of alcohol, but Sungmin never felt this comfortable in his life. He never shared so much about his experiences with anyone, no one but the beautiful woman who’s sitting next to him now.
For every glass of somaek Sungmin drank, he became more and more honest each time. 
Jiwon, who’s quite a strong drinker, laughed as she witnessed the rare sight of her quiet friend acting funny.
Jiwon: Im Sungmin, I didn’t know you’re capable of making jokes like that, Jiwon complimented Sungmin with laughter.
Sungmin who heard Jiwon, gazed at her eyes. 
‘And it happened yet again…,’ Jiwon thought. Just like the day before.
Flashback
In Sungmin’s car after the trial
Jiwon was thankful towards Sungmin who’s been there to support her in investigating Mr. Han’s case.
Jiwon: Sungmin-ah… Thank you.
The car stopped as the traffic light turned red. Sungmin who was looking at the road now has his eyes on Jiwon’s. 
As they’re both now locking their gaze, Jiwon felt a weird feeling she’s never felt before. She tought, ‘what the hell is this? Why does my stomach feel funny? And why is my heart beating like this?’
Luckily, there were sounds of cars honking at the back, so the two got back to their senses. 
When Sungmin dropped Jiwon off at Belle Epoque, she touched her heart to feel it. She laid herself down on the sofa and murmured to herself.
Jiwon: Do I… like him?, while staring at the ceiling.
Flashforward
Sungmin’s Apartment
The two are still gazing at each other’s eyes. At that moment, both of them totally forgot what’s happening and what they were even doing in the first place.
Sungmin who’s a little tipsy and Jiwon who’s completely awake approached each other’s lips at the same time. 
As their lips touched, Sungmin cupped his right palm on Jiwon’s left cheek and his left palm on Jiwon’s neck. 
He felt their lips and tongue danced in synchronization, as he let his suppressed feelings for Jiwon all out. He couldn’t hold it in any longer, as this long overdue kiss was all he’s been longing for.
Jiwon got more and more immersed in the intimacy, and squeezed Sungmin’s loose shirts around his waist. 
She could feel Sungmin’s soft lips playing with hers gently and full of passion. Honestly, it felt so damn good. It’s as if the world belonged to her and Sungmin.
Sungmin pulled out his warm lips and detached it from Jiwon’s, stood up from his position, and carried Jiwon’s light figure, heading towards his room at the end of the hallway.
While Jiwon was carried by Sungmin, she thought, ‘so this is how a real kiss feels like. I want more.’ 
Sungmin pushed the door to his room with his back, and closed it with his feet as he approached his bed to lay Jiwon down on the mattress, caressing his lips once again on Jiwon’s soft lips that he’s gone familiar with now. 
The burning passion of the two equally lustful man and woman continued. As the rhythm got stable, Sungmin unbuttoned his shirt one by one, with the help of Jiwon who’s in the mood. Sungmin then dragged down Jiwon’s dress zipper in a moderate speed and pulled the dress off her body. 
Jiwon switched her position, and now she’s on top of Sungmin, who has his back on the sheets. 
Jiwon who’s left with her matching lacy black underwear on, kissed Sungwon’s neck and traced her lips down to Sungmin’s hard chest, all the way to his sculpted muscles on his belly part. Both Sungmin and Jiwon could feel the sensuality created by their strong affection for one another.
As Jiwon reached his lower body, Jiwon said.
Jiwon: Wait, where’s my bag?
Sungmin: Outside, why?
Jiwon: Protection.
Sungmin: Thank God. You carry it with you?
Jiwon: Of course. Who knows when I’m ever gonna do it, right?
Sungmin: Ah, sorry I’m so bad at this
Jiwon: ssshhhh. that’s not important now.
Jiwon hurriedly ran towards her bag in the living room, took it with her to Sungmin’s room and reached out a packet of condom. She jumped back to the bed and instructed Sungmin,
Jiwon: Take it off, (while pointing at his pants)
Without further ado, Sungmin removed his pants and tossed it to the side of his bed.
Sungmin: Jiwon-ah, are you sure?
Jiwon: Shut up.
Jiwon who couldn’t resist Sungmin’s charm, pulled his body up such that her legs are now wrapped around Sungmin’s waist. 
As they gazed at each other’s eyes for a moment, they attached their foreheads together, put on a subtle smile and let their lips lock again. The kiss was deeper this time. 
Sungmin’s fingers reached out to Jiwon’s back to unclasp her bra and reached her lower waist, as he removed whatever was left on her, Jiwon did the same to Sungmin as she helped him take off his boxer. 
Jiwon tore open the packet she took earlier with her teeth and gave him the night’s savior, the protection she’s been keeping in her bag for the longest time.
As they’ve reached this state now, there’s no going back. 
Sungmin and Jiwon continued on as the night of privacy and intimacy between them developed into a dangerous yet romantic moment they’ve never experienced in their life before. 
‘So this is how it feels,’ Jiwon thought to herself. It’s so good, and it made her happy. ‘But I’m sure, I can feel it this way only because it’s Sungmin.’
As they reached the peak, they laid themselves facing each other and covered themselves with a warm blanket.
A moment of silence was created as the two locked their gaze, Jiwon’s eyes was shining, and it was focused at Sungmin, whose eyes were full of his affection and love for Jiwon. 
Without them realizing, they both closed their eyes in sync, lips hooked while letting their gut feelings and reflex guide them to the deepest French kiss they’ve only witnessed in those Western movies. 
They weren’t exactly sure how much time has passed, as they both tried to catch their breath from kissing. They stared at each other for a moment with sweet smiles on their faces. 
They gave each other one last goodnight peck before getting into a comfortable cuddle position – Jiwon placing her head on Sungmin’s broad chest, and Sungmin hugging Jiwon tight in his arms, as they both head over to dreamland.

Not Alone Ch. 1
Love: an intense feeling of deep affection
This is something Jen Dahl never feels, and according to her, never will. It seemed as if the world was always out to get her and to punish her for things she never did. Her life has been hard since day one and she thought that running away from her abusive, alcoholic father to New York to get a fresh start would be a good idea. So at the age of 18, she got herself a solo plane ticket to the big city. Jen got to enjoy three fabulous hours of newfound freedom in the big apple before she was cornered in an alley by men in all black, almost resembling ninjas. 
The rest was a giant blur that was broken up into a few parts. 
Kidnapped.
Needle.
Transformation.
Cage.
That was five years ago. 
Jen was the only one (that she knew of) that was mutated and was continuously treated like a dog. Chained up in a dirty cage, cold and hungry and she always felt so, so tired. Her hair was in long, thick, messy dreads that she made one year after being captured. She rarely got to wash her hair and thought it would be easier to just dread it. 
“The Secret Weapon” That’s what they called her. And by god, she truly was made into a weapon of mass destruction. After a few years of terrible, torturous experimentation, Jen was able to conduct electricity. She was able to control electronics and was also able to shoot powerful bolts of lightning from her fingertips. 
So she was chained up even tighter and those twisted scientists at TCRI took extra precautions so she couldn’t escape or attack anyone. 
Jen woke up to the evil looking Japanese woman, whose name was Karai, banging on her cage. She growled and looked at Karai menacingly through her dreads, looking almost feral. 
“Don’t give me that look. We brought you a friend,” Jen’s eyes widened and she raised her head a little to look at what the hell this woman was talking about. What she saw nearly made her scream out of pure anger. 
These monsters have kidnapped and mutated another innocent girl and she looked to be around the same age as Jen (early 20s). She also looked, well, a lot like Jen...except without the long dreadlocks. This girl had short brown hair and dark green, scaly skin and a scaly dark green tail. She wore a grey hoodie with a black. leather jacket over it. She also wore faded blue skinny jeans with dark red converse. She looked more pissed off than scared and Jen liked that. This girl was tough, so maybe an escape wouldn't be as hard as she had thought. 
Jen knew the schedule and she knew her strength so she was going to use these two things to her advantage. Tomorrow at precisely 8am everyone will be fed a shitty breakfast then Jen will be taken for her first round of shots and the usual horrible things. They would return her to her cage then they would be fed a shitty lunch and several hours later Jen would be taken out of her cage again for more rounds of testing. This is when she’ll attack using what she knew how to do with that electricity she could now conduct and hope she could at least provide enough of a distraction to rescue the girl and get her, as well as herself, out of there.
So, the day came and Jen went along with everything that she was told to do. Never did she look at the other mutant to even give smalls hints that she was plotting a great escape because in the back of her mind, she didn’t want to get her hopes up in case she failed.
At the end of the day, Karai walked up to Jen’s cage and opened it up. Thankfully, after five long years of not showing any resistance, Jen no longer had to have her chains around her wrists so everyone in the building would never expect her to attack and try to get away. This means she had to wait for exactly the right moment to attack.
Jen followed Karai to the usual lab room where she would be getting her second around of shots for the day and to run the usual tests so see how their “secret weapon” was doing.
“You know what to do,” Karai said firmly and Jen sat on the cold, metal table and let the scientist, whose name was Baxter Stockman, apparently, stick her with large needles with strange looking ooze inside of them. He hadn’t been there long, only about half a year now, but Jen thought he was incredibly...weird. She would smirk a bit to herself, already knowing that Stockman must have been one of those super weird, nerdy, socially awkward boys in high school. He would have never survived in her poor little, crummy school in the ghetto. Jen was snapped out of her thoughts by a painful pinch in her upper arm. Stockman was using a particularly large needle today and it was filled with a neon blue liquid. It almost made her nervous about the side effects.
“Now, stand up and show me that amazing thing you can do.” said Baxter, stepping back so Jen could stand as he laughed in that weird way he normally did. Jen got off of the table and shot a wild bolt of bright blue lightning at a target they had set up for her. The next time they would ask her to do it...she would shoot the lights and some gas tanks so she could get to the others quicker. 
“Again. Harder. More power.” said Karai simply but sternly, standing several steps behind Jen. Jen looked over her shoulder at Karai for a moment before slowly turning her head back around to face the target. She hid her nerves and that daring smirk that threatened to spread across her face. She got in her stance...left foot behind the right, legs slightly bent...she charged up and right before she was about to hit, a loud alarm went off, startling everyone. 
“Freeze!”
“You’re under arrest!”
“Secure the area!” 
At least fifty police officers stormed in, along with what appeared to be some higher ups. Jen could only stand and watch in shock and disbelief as everything that happened in slow motion right in front of her. Baxter Stockman was arrested and Karai, of course, managed to slip away without a trace. 
“Go into that backroom, our primary objectives are in there. I’ll take care of this one,” Jen heard a blond woman say to another police officer. Jen stiffened when the powerful looking woman started to walk towards her and Jen almost thought about attacking her and making a run for it, with or without the other mutant. She was sick and tired of being here. “You,” Jen was snapped out of her thoughts when the blond woman spoke to her. “Are you okay? Come on, you’re coming with us.” she said and made a move to grab Jen’s hand. 
“Where are you taking me?” Jen asked then looked back to the other cage. “....us.” The other mutant looked up, 
“Well, allow me to introduce myself first. My name is Chief Vincent, Rebecca Vincent, and from now on, the four of you are safe.” she said, offering Jen a kind smile, especially since Jen had also finally allowed the Chief to take her hand while a couple of other officers worked on getting the other mutant out of he cage, who’s name happened to be Eva. 
“That...that sounds wonderful, but...the four of us? Aren’t we the only two?” asked Jen, gesturing to herself and to Eva who had just walked up next to her. Chief Vincent just sighed and looked behind her at the back room where the group of officers had went in. 
“We wish it was only the two of you, but...” she looked behind her again and saw the group leaving with two large pods. Inside of each pod...was a mutant, mutants like Jen and Eva and they seemed to be...frozen? Jen was in shock as she watched the men wheel the pods away to their large vans. In her five years of being here, Jen never had a single clue about what had been in that back room this entire time, nor did she really care. But now, more than ever, she wished she had.
“Come on you two, we’ve got warm beds and plenty of food waiting for you back at headquarters. You two, and the other two once they’re thawed out and conscious again, will be living in the ‘apartment’ at the back of headquarters.” Jen and Eva looked at each other with raised brows.
The ‘apartment’ Chief Vincent was talking about was kind of a chill space for the officers for when they were on break. There was a kitchen, a living area with two couches, a coffee table, and a large tv. In the back were two bedrooms with two beds in each for when some officers have night shifts and want to take a nap and one small bathroom with a shower. Jen and Eva had zero complaints, Jen especially. She had basically lived in a cage in a lab for the past five years and before that, she lived in a crummy apartment with her abusive father. So this was heaven. Jen couldn't help but smile widely at the little place. Compared what she was used to, this was luxury. 
“This will be your temporary living space until we figure something else out...but I have more supplies coming your way. Blankets, clothes, food, entertainment...anything to keep you comfortable.” she said. She smiled at Jen a lot, almost like she knew the hell she’s gone through, like she was trying to make up for finding her five years after she had been mutated. 
“Thank you, Chief Vincent, we really appreciate you rescuing us from those monsters and for providing us with a safe place to stay. If there’s anything we can-”
“No, no. Please, just relax. When the other two are awake and are healthy, they will be moving in with you.” said Chief Vincent. Jen and Eva nodded and smiled at her. After a couple more thank yous the Chief left the girls alone so they could get to know each other. 
The chief walked quickly to her office and she shut the door. She sat at her desk and dialed the number she had come to know very well.
“O’Neil? It’s Vincent. I need you over here ASAP.”
