im currently playing a fun game with my sister where we're just watching everything on this list that said 'rate analog horrors' (which is my least favourite genre) it is so tedious and horrible. highly recommend. as you can see, the mandela catalog received its own little section because while it is better made than a lot of these, it ruined the genre so entirely through its popularity that i cannot forgive it (its also gauche as shit so i don't feel that bad). this list is also funny because it only contains stuff made in the past 4 years so i dont get to put my old favies on it.

if you want 'so bad its funny to watch it' the classics of the genre like mandela and walten are always a go to. a couple of extras i would include for you are grub and snitch and the boiled one phenomenon (not listed). love it its so cute

When I say Angel hare is the best analogue horror I do realise it's perhaps not as 'scary' to lots of people (I'd agree it's more eerie, a mystery story) but it NAILS the analogue part so perfectly.

It's not just some shitty VHS filter over creepypasta OC's and a story about yet another dead kid. It's not about cop cameras or PSAs or Emergency broadcasts, which by themselves can already be unsettling without needing to be part of a horror series. The East Patch team invented AT LEAST 3 different pieces of animated media (2 different TV shows and a game) to build their mystery and the whole project is a love letter to VHS technology, glitchy game tech and the decay of physical media.

They managed to make a cute little moral cartoon about a hare and her badger friend unsettling without having to draw the main character with a warped face or blood dripping eyes. That alone is a mark of quality writing and world building for a series like this.

As someone old enough to remember the golden age of VHS Angel Hare is the ONLY analogue horror series (in my experience) which has absolutely captured the magic and surrealism of that era. And sure I will praise the likes of The Mandela Catalogue, Monument Mythos and Mystery Flesh Pit for what they do so expertly, but Angel Hare still holds it's head up high for the sheer amount of work put into making it feel real and substantial. It feels like a series made by people who lived and loved the VHS age, not a bunch of kids trying to capture a feeling they've only experienced second hand.

I guess, either the US government hid parts of the Gun Devil in the Statue of Liberty or the monument itself was corrupted by Yoru using the worldwide fear and love of guns (writing wise, it's Fujimoto using a Japanese homophone pun that was used when Gun Devil fully appeared in Part 1: Gun Devil in Japanese is Jū no Akuma, which sounds similar to Jiyū no Akuma. The Freedom Devil. ...And of course, it's another critical jab at the US' culture of guns and overall weapons of mass destruction, imperialism and its violence).

Ngl I might make a finished piece of some character within wonderland. There isn't really any connection between the two works, but boy howdy did my bird brain see Maize and immediately made a connection that wasn't there.

I know the Stone Ocean gang existed, they weren't simulations like the contestants, but when the universe reset it basically made it so they and the previous events never happened in the first place.

I know people were super bummed and disappointed by the ending, but it doesn't really diminish the stories that everyone enjoyed when watching/reading. Like you still felt something when experiencing the work the ending doesn't take that away. Sometimes you can even gain a deeper appreciation on a revisit, even if you know what's coming.

I hate when monument mythos gets boiled down to just "Scary Monuments" because it is so so so so much more than that it is such a good commentary on American imperialism.

Modern Day gets such a bad rap (which honestly ill say is not good imo all that matters is season 1,2, the nixonverse, 3) because of the SUDDEN POLITICAL STANCE.
