Posts through no fault of the op make me go insane because YES. YES EXACTLY. YOU NAILED A MAJOR PART OF THE SHOW'S TRUTHS DOWN EARLY. No, no stop, stop. The show isn't being hypocritical or badly written, it isn't unaware! You have discerned what it is laying out! Please, stop assuming the writing is already foolish and ill-thought simply because it hasn't been spelled it out by one of the characters yet (and just because it's an anime for teens).

Kaz and Eva would make Being Sunny's Favorite Grandparent™©® a competition. they have a board with each one's points n everything. they tease the other when one of them is earning the kid's favour. they also make plans for the three of them though, and they forget who's winning who, because at the end of the day all that matters is that Sunny's having a blast

Vera: Witch of Identity and Introspection
Tumblr media
Finally got around to making a witch OC! I had gotten an OC designed by Lati Oni (https://bsky.app/profile/lati-oni.bsky.social) which I named Vera (Veh Ruh, short for Veronica), and she kinda became a bit of a self insert (though has her own self indulgent lore as well). During my second Umineko read-through, when I saw some others had repurposed old OCs for Umineko OCs, I finally figured out what to do for a witch OC! Actually got Lati to design an outfit for Vera to fit in with the fashion of the other witches, and probably went overboard writing a little bit kbdbkfbkd.
Between writing this excerpt and posting, I actually finished that read-through and my partner has finished their first read-through and are starting with the Higurashi vods! So I also wanted to add an additional thank you for creating an accessible entry point for the When They Cry series (again, I don't think I ever would've engaged with the series due to the reputation the Deen anime gave it and my proverbial weak stomach), and with performances of such quality to boot! I also met some cool people and made some more friends here so an additional thank you for fostering such a lovely community! But that's enough rambling, onto the OC Lore™©®!
...is what I would say if I hadn't written 6 paragraphs lyclhckchjh. Condensed version: Vera, Witch of Identity and Introspection, was once furniture. She found herself trapped in a logic error by a transphobic witch, and only by looking deep into the pieces and reinterpreting them was she able to escape. She helped Kaida solve her logic error, Indigo acknowledged her core through the gameboard, and now Vera and Kaida travel the sea of fragments together, being very gay all the while.
Full lore under the cut
(CW: transphobia)
Formerly one piece of a pair of furniture, Vera ascended to the status of witch. Using various spells, she can shift her own appearance at will, but tends to settle on an average height woman with fox features. Her first summoner originally hadn't intended to summon her, and had ignored her for a long time, but found her to be a source of comfort after she became exhausted from the other part of the pair, one that she has since discarded due to the damage it was doing to her and others close to her.
As furniture, Vera specialized in creating and recreating identities. If a gameboard called for a disguise, she was one of the best at it. However she would try to only lend her skills to witches that wrote their tales charitably towards those who needed disguises. The one time she didn't, she found herself just as trapped as the gameboard's culprit was.
There was a string of logic there, but one she would never acknowledge for it was a cruel one to anyone like her. The witch who summoned her abandoned that game shortly after Vera found herself deep in its inner workings and refused to help further, too deep to be able to leave. Forced to sit with this tale, she looked deeper into the pieces, probably deeper than that witch ever had, and found something she recognized. Whether these were pieces the witch had crafted or borrowed from another board, they clearly hadn't been loved enough to be fully understood. It is from there that she took this gameboard and began to tweak a few things. The culprit remained the same, but the motive, how other pieces treated her, and her actions differed. The other pieces, she had found, had other aspects that were never explored; relationships, personas, and identies that had never been considered by the witch. One of these was a piece by the name of Kaida, a relic of a game written before Vera was involved.
It took some time, but it was through this reconstruction that she found more of herself. She found an opponent, that same witch that abandoned the game, and challenged her to solve it. The witch was taken aback by the gall of this 'furniture', thinking 'he' could take her game and make it 'his' own? Despite it originally being her gameboard, the witch failed to solve Vera's rework. She didn't truly engage with the heart of board, scoffed at these reinterpretations, leaving her clueless to what truly happened and why. Vera, disappointed but unsurprised at this outcome, went to find more opponents. She searched and many opponents didn't engage fully with her board, always failing. That is, until she came across Indigo. Due to her circumstances, she too could easily see to the heart of the game and the core of these pieces.
Delighted that someone had been able to solve her board, she created another, and another, and another, exploring the different possibilities for these pieces identities. One by one, her newfound opponent solved each one, with her acknowledging Vera's core each time. She became excited that someone could acknowledge her as she acknowledged the possibilities for these pieces, so she set out to find more who could understand.
Now she has been acknowledged by several witches, she continues to travel the sea of fragments with the promoted piece Kaida, the Witch of Heart, looking for other witches to acknowledge not only her pieces, but herself. Surely the owner of a certain catbox would understand.

Good news on the Mass Effect Andromeda front: I am finally Figuring Stuff Out™ (Fast travel, learning how to toggle the objectives and realizing THERE’S A MAP have made things soooooo much more fun) and am vibing with the game at last!
Tumblr media
One thing that was kinda stressing me out? Every time the game reminds me THE CHOICES YOU MAKE WILL EFFECT LATER OUTCOMES!!!!!! which triggers this anxiety in me that I’m Doing Things Wrong© and often results in me freezing and not wanting to make any choice because I don’t want to make The Wrong One and not be able to correct it later. 😬
But once I realized I can just play the game again and make different choices, it felt less ominous and universe destroying to potentially make choices I don’t end up liking later in this run. I wish there was a faster way to play through the game, though, but I’m going to definitely replay it on the story/narrative mode where the fighting is minimal. Anyway, I want to play again as Scott and explore some of his options (okay, so I’m probably going to date Cora if she’ll have BroRyder!me, lol) but I’m still weighing my current romantic options as Sara.
I did a bit of research (*points to my anxiety about Doing Things Wrong® which definitely outweighs any Not Wanting To Be Spoiled* 🤷‍♀️😉) to see which optional romance characters I haven’t met yet and that seems to be Jaal and Reyes. Now, I have to say that Jaal seems to be firmly in my character preference wheelhouse (his voice and style of speech reminds me a bit of Vincent from 1987 Beauty and the Beast who I still to this day ADORE with my entire fangirl soul, what can I say? 😍💗), so he’s probably going to be a big contender for Sara’s heart on this playthrough.
However, up until now, I’ve been trying out the flirt options with any character it’s been offered for and, so far, Suvi and Peebee are currently in the running for the title of 💖Love of Sara’s Life💖 However, I was unexpectedly charmed by Vetra’s reaction where she got all tongue-tied and was practically stammering when I asked if she had anybody special in her life. I admit... I found that adorable, considering she’s this big alien warrior woman who looks like she could break me into itty-bitty pieces and then I swear she was blushing at me asking her one simple little question.
Tumblr media
Anyway, here’s Vetra, if you don’t know her.
Tumblr media
Also... Peebee!
Tumblr media
Annnnnd Suvi!
Here, I’ll round out my other potential love interests for Sara...
Tumblr media
Jaal
Tumblr media
annnnd Reyes! (I don’t know much about Reyes yet but he’s giving me some scoundrel vibes and I’m always here for that. 😎)
I mean, honestly? I’d kinda love to playthrough with each of them but that’s a HUGE commitment of time so we’ll have to see how that goes. I definitely want to replay as Sara at least one more time, though, with whoever ends up coming in second place this time around. 😉
Tumblr media
Here’s my girl Sara for reference once more. 😉
I still suck at driving the NOMAD but I feel infinitely better since I’ve had several people tell me that it’s not just me. Also, at least I haven’t caused us to get burned up by radiation or gotten stuck on a big rock in the middle of enemies until we get shot to death again, so... IMPROVEMENT!
Tumblr media
Anyway, for any of my Mass Effect Andromeda peeps out there... who do you typically play as and who do you choose to romance, if you choose anybody? I’d love to hear about your experiences, see how you’ve customized your character, all that fun stuff, if you’d like to share! 😎
That’s it for now. Love you, frens! 🤗🤗🤗

The Y-7 Psychopath - Cowardice or Humility
Don't know if anybody cares about some juvenile "media analysis" from me, but why not, especially on a idea I had in my mind, and finally think it is prudent to put it out there, to see how people feel about it.
So you know western cartoons? And Im not talking about "adult animated sitcoms" or the recent surge of "totally mature and bloody!!!" cartoons that in the end are the same juvenile superhero stuff lol just with exploding heads and awkward animated sex scenes lol.
Yeah, just the standard cartoons that people get really insecure about liking, and make video essays about how "actually it is a masterpiece of mature writting". But instead of me mocking this fact to try to hide my own anxiety over being somebody who makes a fanfic comic, lets go with this
So lets circle back to the title of this "essay" - and start with an example - Everybody loves Zuko from Avatar, I watched the show as a kid, you did, probably kids today do it when all their influencer idols force them too.
Perfect for exploring the point then: And that is the point, people claim how realistic and satisfieng Zuko's arc is, how the redemption is both earned and not without hurdles, not without fallbacks. So where is the issue?
Well I remember sometimes smugly thinking "Well what a coincidence that Zuko never actually on screen killed anyone so he never is really a bad guy...' And this I interpreted to be mostly the case of the rating - basically without the restriction the show would probably include Zuko killing what is at best combatants of the defending side or at worst even civilians. And this would probably kinda derail the arc or leave a bad taste in everybodys mouth...
But the question is left unanswered - is it at the end better, that Zuko gets redemeed in a way that is setup to leave out this elephant out of the room? Hell even I felt kinda weirded out about how nonchalant everyone was about the fact that Zuko hired an assassin, like it was kinda played off for laughs, but maybe that was to show "see we are redeeming him without writting out realistic evils like murder!" - still there is a difference between killing civilians and hiring some copyright free terminator.
So no answer? Well maybe lets look at the opposite case - anime, the cartoons that can kinda go away with showing unscreen murder and atrocities. And to bring it back, lets go with Soul Eater (and no manga spoiler this time cause Im generous and because this would open another can of worms, and I'll save that for the future)
Everybodys favorite charachter that gets reduced to one trait that ironically would be kinda problematic if one really was thinking about it in a certain way - Crona. Also know for killing people who were pointed out to be "not evil enough for it to be ok©®™"
So here we have this charachter, with a whole arc of being abused, having the famous trauma™, doing bad because of a parental figure and wanting to make that figure happy even if its in a twisted way, not getting what real love is...
Basically Im saying Zuko and Crona share a lot of simmilarities looked at this surface level. But only Crona has the problematic aspect of "mass murder". And even I kinda felt it being pushed under the rug no matter how I'll defend Crona from slander on the net while being sick both in body and soul lol.
But here is the thing - atleast I see Crona (atleast in the anime) as mostly some kind of child soldier - I dont think anybody thinks that some african boy that was forced at gunpoint to snort coke and kill his parents while being abused all his life, is "guilty" of the crimes in a way that an adult who does it for a less extreme reason.
Still, even if for me that is mostly justification enough (even if I kinda problematise the whole guilt thing in my comic), I still get it - even if explained it still leaves a bad aftertaste
Like even the most goodhearthed person would probably be weirded out if the person next to them would go "Thank God I was saved, cause till I was 14, I was forced to go from village to village and shoot everyone that moved!". One can say neither person is really at fault yet still it is a sticky topic.
And maybe thats where Im going with this - the problem isnt about depicting the redemption or whatever of killers, but if a story is mature and "deep" enough to handle it. So with my Avatar example I think that in a back handed way, it was good that Zuko wasnt a killer - becaue even if everybody loves the show (I mostly do to, shit was fun) - its kinda clear that in the end the writting and themes etc were on a level of a kid show - enough for kids, but not complex enough to actually deal with some things that other works could (and not even talking about something being grimdark or complex, cause nah everybody hates DBZ but that shit was so.good everybody felt Vegeta turning good and dont make essays about how bad that was, anyways that is why DBZ is too complicated for most western fans💅💅💅 ((but thats a topic for another day))
So to come back to the Crona question - was Soul Eater really prepared to deal with the topic of mass killing inocent people (mostly)? Especially when Ohkubo says himself that it was "a show where death isnt taken seriously"?
Cause I think, with Cronas struggle being mostly about abuse, doing bad things because of parental abandonment, fear etc, was it really necessary to add this baggage? Especially with a show that has that many visual metaphors?
And one example that I would use kinda proves my point and maybe implys that Ohkubo also kinda started backpedalling - the second time we see Crona, there are no wannabe gangsters, just souls of already killed people by another kishinegg which is just a wacky bad guy who isnt even really alive himself (and eve. comically survives)
Basically what I'm entertaining, is if wouldnt have been better to have Crona absorb souls that other Kishinseggs had collected, in this way preserving that they do something wrong (but reversible as later shown with the confiscation) yet never having to go to the extreme of "haha check out this wacky outfit our new friend Crona is wearing! Also twenty people were murdered in that church, shit was crazy"
But am I really basically saying 4kids Crona is the answer. Putting it this way lol, I dunno, I mean I like the pirate rap, but just sanitising everything seems off to me to. So yeah I dont even know.
And that is what leaves this whole question like the socratic dialogs, without any real answer with more confusion than before. But maybe it could "start a discussion" or whatever. But in case it was just a waste of time, without going anywhere:
Yeah... Sorry
Also quick manga spoilers as a bonus
This would aslo avoid making Cronas fate feel so cope-outish, cause that seemed to be the real reason - Ohkubo neither felt comfortable ignoring the whole message of overcoming fear and connecting no matter what, while also just saying that killing more people in Ukraine than in the last 2 years was just a big uppsie - hence the paradox of the non ending "I dont want to hurt. anybody, but actually I am evil.and care for Maka only or maybe Im just guiltu or maybe not and Im crazy xddd"

curating your experience with any kind of pornography by avoiding things you know you aren't into is extremely basic and common. the people who get off to "the freaky crap" ALSO do that. when you say shit like this it really sounds like you have some very strong judgements about certain kinks, to the point where you can't interact with a post about all kink in general without emphasizing to everyone that YOU only watch the Normal Stuff™©® (how can we tell normal from freaky? well, You Just Know i guess)
like, okay. You know what you like and don't like, you know you have a right to not watch or read or listen to porn you don't like, and you take steps to only engage with porn you do like. why do you feel the need to make a big statement about it? cause it seems to me like you are still very much judging other people's kinks.
in order to not succumb to sex negative conservatism you have to accept that people will get off to things that are upsetting to you. and you cannot assume anything about what they have or have not experienced, what they do or do not believe, and how they act based solely on what gets them off. even if it's extremely confusing and disturbing to you. there are people who have only ever had heterosexual vanilla sex in missionary with the lights off, who actively contribute to more real world harm than your average fetish artist. kink is not a reliable source of information on someone's moral standing. it just feels good to think that way.

Borderlands 2 Locations rated by how well I would fare there as an ice cream truck driver, sorted by worst to best
DLC locations excluded because I'm a broke bastard and the list is long enough as it is.
19: Caustic Caverns
There's nothing there! The only customers I would get are Threshers and Varkids, both of whom I have a boiling, seething hatred for, and there's acid lakes everywhere! That'll ruin my truck! All I'd have for company would be Elyse Booth's severely depressing echos and the (frankly bangin') ambient track.
Most requested flavour: Varkids love the taste of soft, tender ice cream vendor.
18: Southern Shelf
Have you ever looked at a glacier and thought: Yes, that's the perfect place to have me some of that cold sugar cream? Me neither! And given Captain Flynt's propensity for torture I don't think it's the safest turf to drive a truck through. My one (1) customer would be Sir Hammerlock way up on Liar's Berg, and he'd mostly buy my stuff out of a sense of obligation and pity. Also Claptrap is there.
Most requested flavour: Minty Chocolate, by Sir Hammerlock and Sir Hammerlock only.
17: The Bunker
I bet Angel's never had ice cream. I bet Angel's not allowed to have ice cream. I bet I'd just make myself sad trying to describe the taste the different flavours I have to her, knowing full well she'll never sample them.
Most requested flavour: Berry Mix, most requested but never eaten as again, Jack won't let me through to the control core.
16: Wildlife Exploitation Preserve
Not only do I have to listen to the screams of victims of torture and experimentation, I also have to contend with all manner of starving and mistreated beasts attracted to the smell of my truck. And as cute as they are, I'm pretty sure having a puking skag try to get into your freezer is unsanitary.
Most requested flavour: All of the contents of my truck, after it's been flipped over by hungry skags for the third time this week.
15: Arid Nexus
Now that's just a depressing locale. Nobody sees the ruins of their former home and thinks man, I could go for some soft serve right now. And once again, my clientel would consist of mostly bandits, so I get to be vaguely sad and constantly fearing for my life and cream.
Most requested flavour: Pistachio, a sad flavour for sad people stuck in the past.
14: Sawtooth Cauldron
Is a bitch to navigate even on foot, you think I can get my ice cream truck through there? I get hopelessly lost there even when I can somehow get myself from Point A to Point B situated 100 feet below without shattering my ankles along with every other bone in my body, you think my truck can handle these stunts?
Most requested flavour: Rocky Road - nuts to crack a bandit's teeth and marshmallow to pull them out.
13: Opportunity
Now initially, Opportunity scores some points by being a clean environment filled with workers who have experience with the process of exchanging money for goods and services. Naturally, these workers only have a five second break to work with, so I would probably have to invest in some kind of ice cream cannon to immediately transfer that milky goodness into the workers' waiting mouths. All that's left is to become a class traitor and completely sell out - and become an asset of the Hyperion corperation for life and after death.
Most requested flavour: Hyperion's™ © ® Handsome Jack's™ © ® Butt Stallion's™ © ® Glitter Cream.
12: Lynchwood
We have canon evidence that there is a demand for ready-to-eat cuisine in Lynchwood, given their grilled skag stands. With my truck, the Lynchwoodians don't even have to cross the street to get their fix, I'll come straight to their doorstep! My only problem is Nisha, and the iron fist she rules her kingdom (sheriffdom?) with. Do I trust myself to run an ice cream truck without breaking any laws? Given that while writing this I am literally listening to the Borderlands UST which I priated I absolutely don't.
Most requested flavour: Malaga (rum soaked raisins). It's Nisha's favourite. All other flavours are illegal.
11: The Fridge
I know that the general code of conduct when you see someone shoplifting is to ignore it, but when there's a tunnel rat up to their elbows in a tub of soft serve, I've got a health code violation on my hands - or rather, on theirs. On the plus side, I just know these rats are always, always hungry and Laney has proven that with some kindness shown they're ready to act like a person and consider alternatives to cannibalism.
Most requested flavour: That One Fucked Up Old Bay Seasoning Ice Cream From The Brian David Gilbert Video, You Know The One.
10: Eridium Blight
I have one customer and one customer only: Mal the Human Man. That's alright, because Mal the Human Man is aching for the normal human activity of shoving frozen sugary udder juice into his facial orifice and making uncomfortable small talk. Also, you can't beat that Eridium Blight view. And it's got a place called Lover's Leap - what a romantic location to enjoy a sweet treat!
Most requested flavour: Cosmopolitan, the most average flavour.
9: Hero's Pass and the Vault of the Warrior
Close your eyes and imagine with me: You're about to enter the vault, taking the final step in your fight against the man exploiting and aiming to eradicate Pandora. All of a sudden, you hear it - a jaunty little jingle. Why not have a last ice cream before facing your destiny?
Yeah, I don't get a lot of repeat customers.
Most requested flavour: Y'know when people were convinced the world was going to end in 2012 and ordered food with gold flakes on them because they thought they weren't going to have to pay? Yeah, I don't think I'll see them again.
8: Frostburn Canyon
Now I readily agree that it is far too cold to sell ice cream in Frostburn Canyon. However, the cult of the Firehawk politely disagree - no cold confectionary treat is too cool to douse the flames of passion in their hearts or something. That's fine by me - I'll just make sure to slap on a temporary firehawk tattoo to avoid getting human sacrificed.
Most requested flavour: Dark chocolate and flamin' hot chili.
7: Three Horns
The high rating of these locations (yes, I combined Three Horns Valley and Divide, what are you gonna do about it) hinges on one locale only: Bloodshot Stronghold. If I play my cards juuuust right, I might become a Marcus-like figure to them, a deity to be praised and sacrificed to because I'm the bitch who brings the ice cream. If I play my cards wrong I'll just get shot on sight, of course.
Most requested flavour: Flanksteak seems like a banana ice cream kinda guy to me. Banana ice cream enjoyers DNI.
6: Thousand Cuts
You can't tell me the Slab King wouldn't like ice cream, and buckets of it. Bet he has a real sweet tooth. My wellbeing of course hinges on his slabs recognizing the jingle of my truck and remembering not to shoot me in the face.
Most requested flavour: Strawberry with a little waffle and a tiny umbrella.
5: Tundra Express
Is it unethical to exploit the sugar addiction of an unsupervised child? Absolutely. Am I still gonna sell all of my ice cream to Tiny Tina? Again, absolutely. Am I terrified of what will happen if I cut her off for having had enough sugar for the day? AB-SO-LUTELY.
Most requested flavour: Blue (whatever that tastes like) with lots of sprinkles. Like, covered in sprinkles. Eclipsed by sprinkles.
4: The Highlands
The entire concept of an Ice Cream Truck was made for the people of Overlook. No need to leave your house, the food comes to you! I'll even write a little get well soon message on the napkins! And it's always a pleasure to serve a town where 99% of people are aware of transactions that don't involve bullets and/or expletives.
Most requested flavour: Cherry and cream, a fun flavour, if a little tame. Old Reliable.
3: Sanctuary
The people of Sanctuary need some cheering up, and pronto! These folk must have an appetite for sweet treats, and once I get my top surgery I won't even have to be afraid of encroaching on Moxxi's territory of big boobed gastronomy. Alas, Claptrap is there.
Most requested flavour: Some fruity mango-melon to shake off that pre-apocalypse blues.
2: Any of the arenas
I'd have to refurbish my truck into a concession stand, of course, but I really think business would be booming! Who doesn't want put some supremely unhealthy stuff (ice cream) inside their body while watching other people put some supremely unhealthy stuff (bullets) inside each other's bodies?
Most requested flavour: Salted caramel with popcorn bits.
1: The Dust
It's hot as ass, you've got the Hodunks who I just know would go googoo gaga over needlessly sugary artifical flavours in frozen cream, you've got the buzzard academy that play volleyball all day and will most definitely want to cool down with some iced cream, and should I ever get into engine trouble, I have Pandora's best and best looking mechanic right there!
Most requested flavour: Refreshing lemon-lime for the volleyball players, but you know I always hold back pint of cookies and cream for (Borat voice) my wiiiife Ellie.

Random 6am thought but I’m really torn on the Young Justice decision to make the New Genesis Bugs look like actual bugs. On the one hand I do like the way the YJ universe has really set itself up as a very unique and self contained universe, and the new Bugs really reflect that. But on the other hand I feel like it kinda misses the point of the Bugs. Or at least what I’ve always interpreted to be the point of the Bugs. (Please correct me if I’m wrong about any of this)
For reference, Forager from the show and Forager from the comics (with and without the mask):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The New Gods and the Fourth World were created by Jack Kirby during the late 60s early 70s (relatively) shortly after WWII and during the height of the Cold War. That historical context is really evident in the set up of the canon (I mean it is called the Fourth World after all). Apokolips is very clearly supposed to be a Nazi Germany/Soviet Union stand-in. With the one clear tyrannical and totalitarian leader, the work/slave camps, the one uniting phrase used to declare allegiance (Darkseid is.), etc.
So in opposition of the Nazi Germany/Soviet Union Apokolips we have the Allies/United States New Genesis. New Genesis is, on paper, the opposite of Apokolips. New Genesis New Gods seemingly only care about equality, technological advancement, and helping lesser beings. Except then you look closer and realise that New Genesis also has a pretty totalitarian ruler in Highfather, and they also want/have stakes in the eternal war with Apokolips, and hell one of their mission statements is helping “lesser beings”. You quickly realise they are just as totalitarian and supremacist as the Apokoliptans, they just have better branding.
And a large part of this, for me at least, is the Bugs. Just like in the YJ show the Bugs of New Genesis live on the planet while the New Gods float above them in the sky. Also just like in the show the New Gods use the Bugs for what is essentially slave labour and treat them as… well… bugs. The difference is that in the comics the Bugs aren’t actual bugs. They look like human beings, they are just called Bugs because that’s what the New Gods see them as.
To me it seems like the idea was for the New Genesis New Gods relationship with the Bugs to be a reflection of the Allies/United States relationship with their colonies. It was supposed to say sure they might not have slave/work camps like Apokolips/Nazi Germany/Soviet Union but New Genesis/the Allies/the US still have colonialism and (New God/white) supremacy. They might be The Good Guys™©® but they’re not actually good guys.
And while, again, I like the fact that the YJ universe is creating their own unique take on DC canon. And I do fully understand that getting into the whole World War II/Cold War comparison would be too much for what is essentially a children’s show. I still don’t really like how it almost gives the impression that the Bugs being human is “lazy design” or the same thing as all Star Trek aliens looking the same, when it was (as far as I know) a very deliberate choice made to make a very pointed criticism of colonialism, imperialism, and white supremacy.
Edit: Correction, Forager is the only one who looks fully human cause he’s actually a New God who still gets treated like dirt by all the other New Gods (especially Orion) because he was raised by the Bugs (I was under the impression the Bugs looked like that too, my B). That being said the other Bugs are all still very humanoid, so I still think everything I said applies. And the fact that Forager is an actual New God both makes the supremacy comparison even more poignant with the New Gods looking down on not only the Bugs but anyone or anything that they perceive as a Bug or as related to the Bugs. I also think it makes the decision to make Forager in particular an actual Bug… weird, and kinda erases the entire basis of his comic book character (from what I can tell). I can’t find a solid reference for what the bugs actually look like out of their suits (gotta be honest Forager is “the big one” and even he almost never appears in comics), so if someone has a good reference pic please send it my way.

It's sometimes helpful to point to a few core ideas and then build outward from those.
That φ thing, that mathematicians and "mathematics is the secret code of nature, and the Golden Ratio is the secret code" underlies a lot — like, A LOT — of temple construction around the world. Even five hundred years after England's era called "The Dissolution of the Monasteries" when Henry VIII stole most of the wealth and all of the land from 95% of England's abbeys and friaries and nunneries, it's often possible to identify the site of old churches by the shape of the courtyard left behind after the building was completely removed. It's easy to lay out a Rectangle in the Golden Section, and thus to make a Rectangular Prism for a temple... or a tower... or a dome... but other shapes are possible, like nested octagons (Dome of the Rock) or nested hexagons and triangles (common in a number of shrine types across the Bantu regions of Africa)
So does the Golden Rule, phrased differently in different religions, but usually the same basic core ideas: "do to others as you would have them to do you." Or, phrased negatively, "Do not do to others what you would find hateful when directed at you."
These have been used in the past to advance the cause of something called Perennialism — the idea that all religions, everywhere, are simply variations or fallings-away from the One True Religion -- that there is some True Religion that underlies all these others, and that all the other religions are simply efforts to capture, or re-capture, those essential truths. This is a blog post, and really a response to someone else, so there isn't much cause to go into why Perennialism is a Bad Idea™ in modern cultural and historical studies... but it's enough to say, for the moment, that certain elements of Mathematical Precision ("these proportions are beautiful and useful") and certain elements of Cultural Meaning ("be nice to each other") are found in every religion.
You can also take a leaf from astrology. Your world has a time-keeping system of some sort, with a Sun and maybe a Moon, and maybe 4-8 visible planets. If you reach far enough back in your world's time, there was an era when humans or elves or dwarves looked upon those moving bodies as extraordinary phenomena... and each of those planets (or two of them together) may have captured religious attention to launch a religious movement. In shorthand, here's what each planet might contribute to that conversation:
Saturn: Death, Solitude, Austerity, self-reliance
Jupiter: Generosity, Law, Abundance, Wealth, Gifts
Mars: conflict, contention, battle, war, force,
Sun: excellence, glory, light, leadership, rulership
Venus: beauty, love, aesthetics, women, delight, music, dance
Mercury: expertise, business, trade, fraud, communication, LGBTQ issues, debate, argument, medicine, money
Moon: children, motherhood, imagination, storytelling, community
Every religion is going to have Opinions® and Theology™ and Scripture/Doctrine© to cover these topics... so you can use the planets to make a kind of "checklist" of things each religion feels.
Related to this, Saturn and Jupiter have a conjunction with one another every 20 years, and for about 240-280 years those conjunctions take place in signs of the same element — Earth, Air, Fire, Water. We're all familiar with the idea of eras of time in which one Great Power is dominant over others, of course — Avatar, the Last Airbender has got some of this idea, right?
But... both for out-of-world planning, and in-world consciousness, some astrologers and wizards may be aware of this cycle, known as the Great Conjunction Cycle — and know that when a Fire Age begins, (called the Grand Ingress), that a period of wars, conflagrations, and unseasonable heat is upon us, and mountain nations thrive. When the era shifts to a Water Age, then naval powers predominate, whirlwinds and waterspouts and tidal waves and sea-quakes trouble the oceans; and exploration and trade are common. When an Earth Age follows, infantry forces from the rolling hills conquer territories and build roads, and earthquakes cause terrors and collapse cities, while volcanic activity buries them. In Air Ages, horse-lords from the steppe sweep out of the northern realms to raid and pillage and collapse the land-claiming empires of the Earth nations; and the tundra expands southwards into grasslands, while windstorms and tornadoes shake down palaces and cities. Many ancient astrologers were of the opinion that many forms of magic became abrogated or obsolete after one Elemental Age ended and another began — and that the start of a new cycle meant that new magics had to be learned and studied; and that new prophets and new gods would be born into the world as old ones passed away.
Two cycles of 240-280 years is nearly 2000 years... Four such cycles, or 4000 years, is more than the lifetime of the oldest elves in Tolkien's framework or in Dungeons and Dragons... and provides an elegant plot hook. If your world is right at the transition point from one age to another... or even at the Grand Ingress when one Air Age ends and a Fire Age begins ... the world is about to get a lot more tumultuous, and your players (or protagonists) are in a good position to slow down the change, or speed it up, or be themselves the heralds and creators of the change.
I get a lot of questions about religious world building. I tend not to answer them (because I charge by the word) but lemme give y'all some advice:
Make sure your religion would still be interesting if gods and magic weren't real. The real-world Catholic Church is interesting because of how social and political power flows through it. Judaism is interesting because of the history and culture it represents. Islam is interesting because of the non-religuous innovations that it fostered. Et cetera et cetera. Real world religions are varied and complex in a thousand different ways.

⭐ We know the importance of tech and the opportunities on taking advantage of it, but there's an issue that must be pointed on times that we are passing through: the essential requirement of strenghten our selfpower. Let's be aware that, when tech development raises, we must ensure that human intelligence keeps on top. saw some discussion of majima's Mad Dog Persona©®™ on twitter and thought itd be nice to put down my thoughts on it somewhere. spoilers for y0 and y4, sorta. i get a little emo so this is kinda long and unnecessarily wordy
if you ask me it's all about control and being used. in 1985 he and saejima are used as pawns, small part of something so much bigger. they thought they knew what they were doing, what their purpose was but they didn't. they didn't know the truth of their actions and what they were really being used for. the truth itself is something i don't fucking understand tho lol, the plot of yakuza 4 is such convoluted nonsense and my least favorite of all the games so far because of it. idk what happened all i know is that they were both used
and he's used in the hole, cause god knows that his torturers weren't doing this shit out of just duty but for fun, blow off some steam and frustration by going into the hole and kicking the poor dude's teeth in.
and in the grand he's used, like a donkey with a carrot dangling in front of him, always being told oh, make a few million more and we'll let you back into the clan. and when he reaches that goal, it's a few million more, actually. of course no one's gonna let go of this cash cow.
and oh my God. the entirety of yakuza 0 he's used and he's used in the worst most heart wrenching way possible oh my fuck.
im coming to that part of this post where i lack the energy to articulate my thoughts both cause i simply am tired and because im being EMO!!!!!!! but that entire scene.
shimano revealing that he KNEW that he sent majima to kill makoto because he KNEW that he couldn't kill her, and would instead protect her.
it's not just "following my orders without realizing their true purpose" anymore. it's "going against what ive been told to protect who i love, thinking i was doing something right, only to be told i was following the plan." imagine thinking you were saving someone, only to be playing into the hands of the people who wanted to hurt that someone.
how heart shattering and humiliating that must've been??? to realize that your actions were not your own!!!!! and the words that really fucking hammer that shit in and made me lose my mind a little, "i know ya better than ya know your damn self."
not just his actions but his feelings too. i have my issues w majima and makoto's relationship but the idea that even something as intimate as their love and trust was just a stepping stone to a bigger goal, something like that just being used for shimano's reach for power, that shit hurts.
EVERYTHING about majima was used. predictable. i cannot imagine how it feels to be seen through like that. it must be so fucking dehumanizing, again the actions you thought were your own were not your own. you were just being used for something else bigger than you. feeling like a puppet.
that entire series of events is the crux of his mad dog persona for me, his breaking point. this persona has changed and developed over the years, shifting to fit new needs like a dinosaur (because dinosaurs were CRAZY successful and versatile, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, you'd fucking go extinct if a big ball of fire hit you too) but its foundations really lay here.
it's born out of the sickness of being used again and again. your body is used and your FEELINGS are used, all actions that you thought were your own were not your own. everything about you is calculated.
but you can't be used if you're unpredictable. if you're nuts. the mad dog persona evolved, imo, to save majima from being used. he shows the world a fake, exaggerated version of himself keeping his true self hidden so no one knows what he's thinking or what he'll do next. now he can't be controlled, he controls himself, and he's no longer afraid to do what he damn well pleases. no one's going to tell him what to do.
as i said before, this person changes over time as he meets kiryu and co, reunites with saejima, etc...but that's for another time i think.
BEFORE i end this post i should definitely say; i think people ignore lee and sagawa's role in inspiring him to live the way he does. it's always nishitani nishitani nishitani, which yeah he did but lee and sagawa were a big impact on him too and i love that. i could write a whole lot on sagawa and majima's relationship but i'll say that the fact that majima learned a lesson (tenacity, in particular) from his literal abuser and captor is part of his adaptability. this man has done horrible things to him yet he was still able to...learn something from him. he makes do with what he has, learns whatever tricks life can give him, even if it's through pain and torture at the hand of some piss drinker.

I'm very yes and no on this opinion. Like, yeah, it's kinda a requirement for the main character of a kids show to be a Good Kid™®©. It's good and important for kid-protagonists to be uncomplicated with simple Good and Bad as a base that can become more complicated and nuanced later. But it's not spesific to Danny Phantom, like in Avatar The Last Airbender, Aang is a Good Kid™®©. And at first there's simple good guys and bad guys, the fire nation and everyone else, but eventually the audience is slowly introduced to good firebenders and bad water- and earthbenders. And Aang never stops being a Good Kid™®© despite being a trouble maker and distractable - though I will admit, Aang is more feral Danny.
The problem shows up when people, creators included, start to think that being a Good Kid™®© makes a character boring. And that's where I think the tendency to increase Danny's feralness comes from, combined with not being able to write a character consistently (both on purpose and accident) and for the plot.
And "goodie-two-shoes are boring" is a very big problem in superhero criticism - like in the DC live action movies. Nolan and Snyder both felt the need to make Superman and Batman less "goodie-two-shoes" and more "interesting", completely missing the point of their characters.
I feel like people forget that Danny isn't actually feral. Like, I love feral Danny, but, even at the height of his "feralness", his room is spotless, he's sad when he can't study, and he cleans to relieve anxiety (though yes, only when he's alone). He only started not doing his chores, getting bad grades, and missing classes when he stopped having time for it and he hates it! He wants to be a good boy! AND! He loves being a hero and helping people, and I'm tired of people being like "no, actually he hates being a hero and wouldn't do it if he wasn't forced to". No! You are wrong! Danny Fenton loves helping people and being a hero. (I thought we all agreed that Phantom Planet was Out of Character!) He's not a dirty little gremlin child. He's a responsible, well organized teen, and tries to still be that even when he's at the end of his rope and stressed to hell and back.

hi bestie I have come up with an amazing plan (that I hope I can one day carry out) that gives us both equivalent satisfaction:
I come and visit you: +2 points on the satisfaction scale™®© for me getting to see you, +1 for you getting to see me, and another +1 for you for not having to travel for a god-awful amount of hours only to end up in a place voted one of "the worst to live" in the country
you follow a youtube tutorial and give me curtain bangs: +1 for you for getting to cut hair and not be screamed at by me, +2 for me getting a sick new trim
you show me the andrew garfield spiderman movies: +1 for you getting to watch some movies you love, another +1 for forcibly subjecting me to marvel media (which I previously vowed never to do), and +1 for me for getting to watch new movies and write a letterboxd review which gets 1 like (the like is from you)
final scores: pablothefrog - 5, concerto-roblox - 5
I look forward to your answer telling me how smart I am
Bestie I think that this is an amazing idea. We can watch spiderman movies while I give you bangs that may or may not end up terribly. We can also do this at quantum's place, because they have a bigass room, or at least it's much bigger than mine. Also, you say that where your university is is one of the worst in the country, but my hometown was also voted one of the worst. Very romantic.
When do you think you'll come down 👀👀
