#when legends and lore collide
Text
Colin from Team Arctic still hasn't noticed that he left my hands untied, lol. I'm just recording his little rant about the artifacts and trying to control legendaries-
...
Did this guy just say he wants to make a clone army of the legendary trio???

There a 2 news Leslye Headland interviews on starwars.com and Collider that are very good.
I love this bit:
Beyond the other film influences, Headland has infused her love of the original films, current books, and Legends lore into the story. “There were certain things that I really wanted to do. You'll see a half Theelin, half human Jedi, Jecki, played by Dafne Keen, which was always a dream of mine,” Headland says. She first fell in love with the species when Rystáll Sant joined the Max Rebo Band in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi. “There's also some EU lore that I decided to put in because I thought it was so cool and no one told me I couldn't,” she adds with a laugh. The series will introduce a Zygerrian Jedi and canonize one species that’s yet to be seen, Headland reveals. “There are a couple of really big EU ideas that are utilized both early on in the series and later in the series,” she hints.

This is a ridiculous thought but now I can't unthink it 🤣
I often seen one of two things:
Az and Elain as rulers of the Dusk Court
I don't agree with this because I honestly believe Elain is meant to live fully in the light, not to have that light dimmed by someones darkness and that's what Dusk represents.
Az and Gwyn as rulers of the Dusk Court
I don't really see this either. I think Gwyn and Az will be well matched and each powerful in their own way but rulers will always be in the public eye. Neither Gwyn or Az strike me as two characters who will ever prefer to take on that front and center role. They both prefer their space and you don't really get that when you're in charge.
Day Court is full of Light and I could absolutely see Lucien and Elain thriving there. You have one character who craves sunshine and has remained hopeful even in the face of adversity and another who is still genuinely good and kind despite the many tragedies that have befallen him. They are Day Court through and through but how is that going to work? I can't imagining SJM taking out Helion.
But......one way for Lucien and Elain to rule over Day is if Helion were to rule over Dusk.
Helion definitely seems to have a "darker" side than Lucien which would befit a High Lord of Dusk.
Helion let out a dark laugh. Dangerous—he was utterly lethal, this High Lord
capable of kindness and wrath.
And somehow—somehow colder than Kallias.
Also, Helion's prized Pegasus come from the island where the Prison was located and there are hints this all ties into the possible lost people of the Dusk Court that might be trapped under the Prison.
"Rhys told me once that this island might have even been an eighth court.”
Fae screamed, pounding on stone that hadn’t been there a moment before, pleading for their children’s sakes, begging to be let out let out let out—
According to legend, the pegasuses had come from the island the Prison sat upon—had once fed in fair meadows that had long given way to moss and mist. Perhaps that was part of the decline: their homeland had vanished, and whatever had sustained them there was no longer.
Lore held that there had once been far more of them before recorded history, and that most had just vanished,
But perhaps the most poetic reason of all for Helion to be High Lord of Dusk?
What Causes Fire in the Sky?
At sunset, the light travels through 10 times the amount of distance in the atmosphere, colliding with numerous air molecules along the way. By the time the light reaches your eyes, all the blues and violets have dispersed elsewhere, leaving behind a trail of warm colors such as red, orange, and yellow.
Who is a combination of Sun and fire?
Helion and the LOA

Some retake trickster lore and fun facts please? :,33
YOU ACTIVATED THE SPOOKYMAN GET READY HAHAHAHFJGJFHDGS THIS IS GONNA GET LONG BABY
@justafriendlystranger enjoy the food eheheheeee~
-------------
Facts and bits of lore on Retake Trickster!
They're both based on the usual ancient entities like Hades and Kitsunes and a spanish urban legend called La Llorona, in terms of appearance. Also Hog and Scorched, EXEs that have this split personality trope, seen in... Well, the split personality! And also that one time Boiling Potato made that forest deities version of Trickster where she's like... A siren, in a swamp, seen that and went "lmao dead body in a swamp... WAIT I CAN WORK WITH THIS"
Trixie is strictly a pacifist, absolutely no murder allowed in her vicinity, she's literally afraid of the concept and wants nothing to do with it. She will fight but never kill. Enjoy the angst food~
Trickster (the ghost) is selfish, a very egocentric bitch, narcissistic (she doesn't have this disorder, she's like that), overall not the best person in the world. What playing around with god-like magic for years does to a person, amirite? Fucks you up
Trixie, although she seems like a very shy girl... Actually isn't all that much! She's friendly and all, very caring, sorta the mom friend at this point lmao, and also a bit of a gremlin at times. Yes she'll prank you and call you names and flirt for the fun of it because lmao you got a red face cutie hahaaa. She's not shy, whole opposite, just not as strong and confident.
Trixie is canonically a lesbian and can't take compliments despite her confident persona, BRING IN THE FLIRTIN' HAHAHAHAHSHAHAHFJFJFBDH
In light of this, Trickster is canonically pansexual in the retake! She thought she was straight (she died in ye olden japanese days) but there were a few women here and there that really wanted her. Because of this, she convinced the entire japanese area to mind their business because hey who are you to question a god*? Fuck off let her seduce women she can pop your lungs like balloons lmfao
Also this Trickster can take compliments, she's not shy lmao she's the one that lured in guys and gals like metal to a magnet
Their fusion (which i'm nicknaming The Deceiver) is only ever unstable when the two of them are crammed up in the same body, causing them to enter a very feral and angry state
In light of this... I'll just explain via what Trixie thinks of this "fusion" process~ ——— what she feels is a fusion, her soul colliding with mine, but what i feel? I feel her hands grabbing my soul and throwing me away, replacing me, i feel like i dissociate and watch my body cause a bloody mess knowing i can't do JACKSHIT. I want her gone, for good, i really do, i wanna punt her cocky self-centered ass into the fucking SUN.
Adding onto this, Trixie and Trickster don't have a great relationship. As i said, Trixie is a strict pacifist, and Trickster is a shitty bitch that thinks her better than everyone, so you can guess how fast and strong shit went downhill the day Trickster came back from the dead...
Trixie is a bottom unlike Trickster, her confident mischievous persona doesn't match her composure in a full-blown relationship, can't even take little jokes that alude to... That Stuff That Mustn't Be Mentioned But You Know Very Well What I'm Talking About (by Fall Out Boy). Trickster will gladly pin you down lol.
Trixie is in the 7 foot area, prolly 7'3, while Trickster is in the 6 foot area, maybe 6'7. When they fuse, Trickster's height mixes with Trixie's, making The Deceiver... 8 foot~? Eheheheeee enjoy~

(All answers are given in a way that better corresponds to draft 2, just a heads up for those of you who already read draft 1)
Worldbuilding:
The distinctive thing about my worldbuilding is that it makes it impossible for me to find a genre label
The distinctive thing about the worldbuilding in this story is that it's very very very distantly post-apocalyptic, namely it takes place 1000 years after a cataclysm, and of course, in many ways, the people living in this age are not affected anymore, but in other ways, they are obsessed with their lost past (especially given that they celebrate said 1000 year anniversary). What I'm going for with this is mostly a reversal of the usual past=regressive and present=progressive paradigm. (But of course I know that in and of itself is a trope, much like the legend of Atlantis. It just happens to be a trope I like better).
Another thing I was going for was creating a sort of winterland that was not Scandinavian coded (this is actually the very first idea I had back in May 2019 when I wrote draft 0). Obviously a Scandinavian coded wonderland does co-exist, being Ingrid (the main character's wife) country of origin, but the main country is mostly based on 18/19th cent Russia. Now, this fact, namely a vaguely 19th century Russia coded winterland + the fact of it being 1000 years post apocalypse, with the older civilisation bring more technologically advanced, I'd be inclined to label this a sort of steampunk. I'll see where I go with the tech related worldbuilding.
The climactic moment:
Well you asked for this, so spoiler warning. But I will try not to give the biggest reveals away.
The idea hinted at from the beginning is that Anatoliy killing the neighbour king Vaidas was not at all an isolated act of revenge, but, much to his horror, Anatoliy had played right into the hands of a much bigger conspiracy, which for whatever reason would've benefitted from Vaidas' death. Anatoliy, while having willfully killed Vaidas, was a completely unwilling pawn in this larger scheme. Over time, more and more conspirators get revealed, each (usually) a bigger villain than the previous.
Anatoliy's personal family conflict + his crime + the conspiracy + the three ongoing revolutionary movements somehow (using this word not out of uncertainty but because that's a huge spoiler) collide and some actually end up having to put aside differences to fight a greater evil. The climax thus is the reveal of the one who started the conspiracy in the first place, and the others having to fight against this newfound evil.
All I will say, thematically, is that the conflict in worldview shifts from revenge vs forgiveness to thinking you can change the world vs accepting it as it is and just living right.
Random lore dump:
Idk for sure what piece of non spoiler lore I haven't shared yet hmm. As I mentioned on my other sideblog @the-tzarina-alexandra-paracosm , the title The Land of Eternal Winter is a reference to one of the novels I wrote as a teen, namely a chapter with a similar name, in which one of the characters ends up at Stalingrad and has this whole flashback sequence/ internal monologue about his childhood in pre-communist Russia. I really wanted to steal the name from that chapter, seeing it more appropriate in the setting of this current novel.
I chose the word eternal too because it just sounds better and more spiritual, but that doesn't mean the winter is 1. Actually never-ending. Like they do get a summer but it's pretty mild. Their climate is just kind of subpolar/ tundra + taiga type of terrain. 2. A symbol of a spiritual realm such as Heaven or hell. It absolutely is not Heaven because look at how sinful these people are for real. And it absolutely is not hell either because first of all let's be real you know me, I love winter and see it as a good thing, so I would never characterise hell as a beautiful snowy place. If I tried to imply it was hell I would straight up name it the land of eternal fire or whatever. I would say winter, if you take the spiritual connotation, is earth. As in the condition of man, but most of all, it is neither Heaven nor hell, it is earth and earth cannot be eternal and guess what happens when humans think their earthly existence is eternal? Yep. And of course you are free to extrapolate all sorts of meanings from this title given the many symbols of winter etc. I just know that winter sometimes symbolises death and I only wanted to steer clear from the possible "eternal winter = eternal death?? = hell??" interpretation. In-universe the country has this nickname because their climate ofc, but their culture too is a cold one (as opposed to a warm friendly culture). They do have quite the negative reputation.
Colour or texture:
Cool tones, especially blue, but of course yhe works itself is colourful enough. I just think of images such as the one below when I think of colour + texture associations of this story

"The Celestial Key" plunges its readers into a realm where ancient lore and modern reality collide, crafting a narrative so intricate and compelling that it demands attention from the first page. As the latest offering from an acclaimed author known for weaving threads of myth into the fabric of contemporary life, this novel emerges as a beacon for fans of fantasy and intrigue. Within its pages lies not just a story, but an excavation of truth told through the eyes of a protagonist who finds themselves holding what might well be the linchpin to humanity's understanding of the universe—a literal key to the stars, bridging the gap between the forgotten past and the untapped potential of the future. At its core, "The Celestial Key" grapples with age-old questions that have long haunted humankind: What if the myths and legends we've relegated to the confines of storybooks held insights into the workings of the cosmos? The narrative resolution the book provides redefines the very fabric of mythological understanding. For the seeker of knowledge and the lover of lore, the book is more than a mere fantasy adventure; it is a guidepost illuminating the intersections between the celestial and the terrestrial. With characters that resonate with depth and authenticity, the novel addresses the underrepresented need for mythic consciousness in a world seduced by the mundane, offering a vision that could very well unlock the enigmas of existence and inspire a renaissance of wonder. Plot The plot of "The Celestial Key" revolves around the protagonist, Astraia, a young astronomer who discovers an ancient artifact that resembles a star map. This map leads her on an epic quest across different realms, both terrestrial and celestial. Throughout her journey, Astraia encounters various obstacles, such as deciphering the cryptic language inscribed on the Key and eluding a secret society that has sinister plans for the artifact's power. As the narrative unfolds, readers are drawn into a complex web of political intrigue and treachery, as different factions vie for control over the Key. The stakes rise exponentially when Astraia realizes that unlocking the celestial secrets of the Key could either herald a new era of enlightenment or bring about an apocalypse, depending on who wields its power. The plot thickens when Astraia's personal history intertwined with the Key's origins is revealed, adding layers of emotional depth to her character's motivations. Characters The cast of "The Celestial Key" is diverse and well-developed, each bringing their unique perspectives and backgrounds to the story. Astraia, the main character, is a prodigy in celestial mechanics, possessing a rare blend of scientific genius and spiritual sensitivity. Her mentor, Master Corvin, is a seasoned astronomer with unspoken ties to the Key's ancient lineage. On her travels, Astraia gathers a group of allies, including Lysander, a rogue archaeologist with a thirst for adventure, and Neoma, a priestess with mystical abilities that challenge Astraia's empirical worldview. Antagonists such as the enigmatic Lord Arcturos, head of the secret society known as the "Nightshades," provide formidable challenges and complex moral ambiguity. The characters' interactions and growth are central to the narrative, with individual backstories and secrets that gradually surface, adding surprising twists and rich emotional texture to the story. Writing Style The writing style of "The Celestial Raw Key" is notable for its lyrical prose and intricate attention to world-building. The author employs a descriptive narrative that paints vivid scenes, from the bustling streets of an ancient city to the ethereal beauty of a nebula seen through the Key's lens. Dialogue is crafted with authenticity, reflecting the diverse cultures and epochs from which the characters hail. The narrative seamlessly weaves together scientific concepts and magical elements, creating a blend of fantasy and science fiction that is intellectually stimulating and wonder-inducing.
The pacing is deliberate, allowing readers to absorb the complex layers of the plot while maintaining enough momentum to keep the pages turning. Flashbacks and prophetic visions are used to provide context and foreshadowing without disrupting the narrative flow, enhancing the overall sense of mystery and discovery. Setting The setting of "The Celestial Key" spans a rich tapestry of locations, each meticulously described to immerse the reader fully. The physical environment ranges from the tranquil observatory in Astraia's home city, where the night sky is a canvas of constellations, to the desolate and treacherous terrain of the Shadowlands, where the fabric of space and time behaves unpredictably. The story also delves into metaphysical realms, accessed through the Key, creating a multidimensional experience that defies conventional geography. Temporal settings are just as varied, with the narrative touching upon ancient civilizations that once wielded celestial magic, juxtaposed with more technologically advanced societies that have since lost touch with the cosmos. The interplay between these settings underpins major themes of the narrative, such as the cyclical nature of history and the enduring quest for knowledge. Unique Aspects What sets "The Celestial Key" apart are its unique aspects that blend cosmic mysticism with hard sciences. The book explores theoretical concepts such as wormholes and time dilation, grounding them in a way that is both accessible and integral to the plot. A distinctive feature is the Key itself, not just a MacGuffin but a symbol of knowledge, power, and the interconnectedness of the universe. Throughout Astraia's quest, cultural and philosophical ideas from various civilizations are interrogated, from alchemy and astrology to quantum physics, challenging readers to expand their worldview. Additionally, the book emphasizes strong female representation in STEM fields through Astraia's groundbreaking research and achievements. Layered within the fantasy narrative are subtle commentaries on environmentalism and the societal impacts of technological progress, making "The Celestial Key" a timely read that addresses current global issues through the lens of speculative fiction. I want to write my poem just like how they wrote their legends
Every frickles of my pen have a slight tilt of wonders inside.
Rows of letters, tellings of whispers in the night. The news brought by the wind blows.
Those tellings of celestial beings above our heads, or old tales of those who have been travelling alongside the Davy Jones.
Stories of 'what ifs' the stories of 'almosts' and the stories of 'always'.
Mighty beings with powers to shaken the universe, having the mountain lord bows to their knees.
About ocean's rage when they've taken her children out of her hold, and her weep leaving everyone drown in her tumble.
I woven my words brings out mystics to every sentences, in hope to entrance whoever dares hooked their eyes upon my stacks of lores.
I let my wonder and hunger get the best of them.
How it collides and coalesce in each other. How it brings the feelings of giddy and mirth to the surface.
And when I feel it, I won't trample the pride when it arises.
Not this time around. As It deserves the rightful place in where it stand.

I just got off the phone with Professor Maple! Willow had woken up from a surgery! She had a fucking EVERSTONE embedded into her body so she couldn't evolve! And she came to rescue me because I don't know I guess she really wanted to evolve!?
(A photo is attached. A Water/Ghost type feline Pokémon is held by Saph, who's crying tears of joy. Ash the Meowscarada is looking intently at the Pokémon in question.)
She evolved into a Spectide!

I knew Trill was fired and stripped of Champion status for Pokémon abuse, but why'd he join Team Arctic?
PC dive done... there's a Pokémon that I didn't think I'd ever see in his team. A Mapleon.
That shouldn't be possible with his treatment of Pokémon though. Not unless he did something extremely unethical.
He did. I'm taking his Pokémon to a center first to get the damage assessed.
And the damage here is insane... no wonder I saw a Sylveon throwing Trill at a wall. He knocked out a Mewtwo with something.

about:
This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. Please direct IMs there, since it's easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. It's also easier to start interactions with me there, where I regularly post open starters and meme prompts. For a full list of rules, see my main. Honesty hour questions will largely be answered IC and treated as anonymous unless signed by a muse.
All details vary based on verse, but in general I pull Constantine from DC/Vertigo comics, with a bit of Arrowverse thrown in if those connections are needed. I'm not that familiar with Legends of Tomorrow, but I'm happy to read up on it if you want to include events from there. If you prefer one of his faceclaims over the others, feel free to request!
Please note that he's not my easiest muse. I enjoy writing him, but true to character, he only talks when he wants to, and it may take me a bit longer to get back to his replies than it does for my other muses.
wanted connections:
This is by no means a comprehensive list, and I can roll with most muses as far as basic interactions. I’m happy to ship Constantine with other DC/Marvel comics characters and OCs/fandom crossovers based on chemistry, but unless they’re on my OTP list, they need plotting and interaction first. There is never any pressure to ship with me, even if they’re on my list.
OTPs: Zatanna Zatara, Oliver, Desmond, comics/Arrowverse Chas Possible Ships: Nick Necro, Lucifer Morningstar, Harley Quinn, Dean Winchester NOTPs: film Chas (too much of an age gap), Rachel Roth (same + daughter vibes), most muses with a significant age gap (he may be an asshole, but he's not a fucking asshole) Other: Any DC/Marvel comics muses. Any muses or crossovers from other horror/paranormal fandoms (e.g., Supernatural, Stranger Things, Welcome to Night Vale, Good Omens).
Tumblr media
default verses:
canon (+/-): Any verses that take place more or less in the DC/Vertigo comics timelines.
arrowverse: A mix of comics lore and headcanons that more closely follows an Arrowverse timeline, where John helps retrieve Oliver's soul.
multiverse!madness: Various comics universes collide, whether Marvel/DC/etc. have always existed on the same Earth, or other-dimension shenanigans are at work. Duplicate friendly!
horror!verse: Any crossovers with horror fandoms like Supernatural, typically where John is working paranormal investigations or scams.
Tumblr media
verses by request only:
I'm happy to write these, but since they're more specific AUs, I don't default on them for asks/memes. Please feel free to request them.
college!verse: A college backstory verse where John attends university to study magic, play in his band (Mucous Membrane), and generally fuck around. (fc: Alexander Calvert)
dad!verse: Any AU where John is being an absolute disaster of a parent. May also apply to canon muses like Rachel Roth or Lucy Quinzel.

I'm your detector I'm your sniper and your spy And I'm your disciple And the keeper by your side Oh I'm your apprentice I'm so hungry for your warmth And if ever have the choice I'll die here in your arms

happy ffwf!! what will your first posted fic of 2021 most likely be? what project are you most excited to start/continue working on? feel free to drop a snippet of one or both! (- thinkingisadangerouspastime)
Happy *ignores calendar* FFWF!😅
I honestly have no idea what the first will be. I have bits and pieces of so many, and I really need to finish them up and get them out.
The fic I’m most excited to “start” (I say that in quotes because a lot of it is written, but it’s not posted yet because I still have to tie everything together) would probably be “But You Called Me Here”. It’s an ATLA/LOK crossover that’s become my go-to comfort-writing fic at the moment ngl.
Here’s a snippet!
Mako sighed. He tugged down Aang’s headband so it was wide enough to cover both his arrow and his eyes. “Just sit still and look pretty, will ya? Let them handle this.”
Aang, blinded and grumbling, crossed his arms and slouched so hard into the booth’s cushion that he nearly disappeared into it. “I hate not being able to do anything…”
“Tell me about it.” Mako thumbed through the next file, careful not to keep anything face-up on the table that might raise suspicion. Without looking, he passed Aang another handful of photos. “Hopefully, we won’t have to.”
Aang grumbled some more, but, nonetheless, he took the offered stack of photos and police sketches and flipped through them. He only uncovered one eye, though, and he didn’t stop bouncing his leg even when Mako’s signature sigh reached beyond the limits of I’m-too-tired-for-this.
Aang stole a glance over the top of the next police sketch, and he would have jumped out of the booth if Mako hadn’t insisted they sit so Aang was situated between the wall and the detective. Across the room, the thug with the tattoos let his arm fall from Kya’s shoulders to, assumedly, her waist, and she laughed at whatever he said next.
“Easy, now,” Mako pried the crumpling photos from Aang’s fingers. He tugged Aang’s headband down to again cover both eyes, and Aang would have blown fire into his huff if he could still firebend. The furious blow of air that escaped him nearly whirlwinded the papers from their table, but Mako held them down just in time. “Would you cut it out already?” he hissed. “Or would you rather us be kicked out because you can’t blend in for more than two minutes?”
“Sorry...”
It’s given me quite a challenge since there are so many characters (especially characters that I’ve never written before), but I’m loving all of the fun times and feels that are coming from it🥰

yo, tell me about arcane. what the hell is it? lol it looks cool but ????
i just think of that mobile game
LOL Yeah, so it's an animated series on Netflix based on that mobile game (League of Legends), but speaking as someone who knew shit all about League before watching, it's pretty beginner friendly and is sort of like... adjacent... to the game, the characters/lore don't line up 1:1 etc.
Specifics of the plot would be kind of convoluted to explain without spoilers because it's one of those shows with a large ensemble cast whose individual motivations all collide to create the episode-to-episode events. The general set-up is that there's a rich scifi/fantasy city built overtop a much poorer slum and the two segments of the city are veering towards civil war. The main cast includes characters from both sides, from poor orphans to the richest woman in the city, etc, and I thought it did a pretty good job of presenting a cast of characters who are behaving understandably or sympathetically even as they're making objectively terrible decisions lmao.
The animation is the strongest part of the show, it's incredible. In addition to being very beautiful I don't think I've ever seen the level of detail, facial expression, etc in an animated series before (especially one for adults... god). Every character has so much personality in how they move, react, etc, even when they're in the background of a scene. Not tryna drag other animated shows because I know it's mostly a question of budget and time but like... the difference between this and She-Ra for example is unbelievable. The nuance to character performances feel more like I'm watching something live-action.
I think the story itself takes a little while to get going -- you really gotta hold on until episode 3 lol -- but once the pace picks up in the later episodes it's pretty breakneck. I liked or was interested in basically every character by the end and found a lot of the relationships compelling, including ships and familial ones and ones I didn't expect to care about. I watched most of it like "This is pretty good I guess" and then since the finale I've thought of little else and immediately started rewatching, lmao, so it was a sleeper hit for me.
Also Imagine Dragons is there for some reason
tl;dr I'd recommend giving it a shot if you like animation at all, or if you like scifi/fantasy ensemble casts. There's a lot of cool varied characters and there's women over the age of 25 etc. Also everyone is hot.
