            “Alright, everyone, you have your teams!” said Enid, standing proudly at the front of the dorm. “Get ready, get set…Time of gingerbread houses! Best theme wins the right to choose the star of our dorm tree!”

            She was instantly running to grab candy and ice cream to make her gingerbread house into the cutest thing ever (and Ajax was more than happy to help her). She had gumdrops, glittery sprinkles, and a hell of a lot of icing.

            Bianca, Xavier, and Eugene (they had been invited and shoved into a team since Enid wasn’t letting Xavier get paired with Wednesday when she could play matchmaker instead) got some supplies and sat down. Bianca and Xavier instantly began arguing over what to make the theme, and Eugene quietly started cracking cookies apart to make a beehive.

            (Y/N) got a combination of a bunch of candy and instantly popped some into their mouth. When Wednesday levelled a look, they grinned impishly.

            “What?” They shrugged.

            “We need our supplies,” said Wednesday, organizing walls of the gingerbread house.

            “You’re into this?” (Y/N) smiled. “That’s so cool!”

            “I want to win. The sweets and colors and ‘Christmas spirit’ have nothing to do with it,” said Wednesday.

            “Whatever you say,” said (Y/N), not offput by any of Wednesday’s “attitude.” “Want me to cut the head off of these gummy bears so they’re dead?”

            Wednesday paused and raised a brow. “Murder on Christmas?”

            (Y/N) grinned. “It would be fun.”

            “Destroy all the peace on earth and goodwill to men with murder,” mused Wednesday. “I approve the storyline.”

            “Great,” said (Y/N). They held out a handful of gummy bears. “What color is the killer?”

            “Red. Blood on the green ones with contrast better to highlight the gruesomeness,” said Wednesday.

            “Got it,” said (Y/N), grabbing a plastic knife and cutting off a tiny gummy bear’s head. (They also may or may not have popped another one into their mouth).

            While they did so, Wednesday created the house and began to splatter blood across it. With toothpicks and some incredible ingenuity with gingerbread, a tiny guillotine sat in the yard of the house. (Y/N) happily added heads to one side and bodies to the other.

            “We should put ‘Redrum’ on the side of the house so it’s spookier,” said (Y/N).

            “Cliché but on theme,” said Wednesday. That was her way of complimenting the contribution, so (Y/N) hummed and opened a candy-cane. Wednesday didn’t even comment and just snapped another one into a spike for the yard. (She knew that (Y/N) had a love for all things sweet, which made their friendship that much more a mystery).

            “Times up!” called Enid. “Everyone front and center with your gingerbread houses!”

            She and Ajax were first up to put theirs on the counter. It was a sparkling castle of gumdrops and gingerbread. M&Ms made tiles for the roof, and sparkling sprinkles made the snow shine in the light. It was a lovely, classic gingerbread house and totally Enid and Ajax.

            “It’s so cute, Enid,” said (Y/N), smiling.

            “Full-on Christmas,” said Bianca.

            “I’m going to choose to pretend that is a compliment,” said Enid.

            “Watch it, Bianca,” said Ajax.

            “Try me, Beanie,” said Bianca.

            “Can we not?” groaned Xavier. It was bad enough working with her, but he had to stare at Wednesday and (Y/N) being so seamless together that it drove him up the wall, and this was the terrible icing on the cake.

            “Come on, show yours,” said (Y/N), eager to stop the conflict.

            “Here,” said Eugene, smiling. He put his (What did Bianca and Xavier have to do with it?) creation on the counter. It was a beehive of gingerbread complete with icing as honey and gumdrops as bees. Candy-canes were makeshift flowers that the bees landed on.

            “It’s so you,” said (Y/N). “I didn’t even realize you could cut these into hexagons.”

            Eugene smiled. “I know bees.”

            “(Y/N), Wednesday, your turn!” said Enid.

            “Tada,” said (Y/N), gesturing to it.

            “Slaughterhouse,” said Wednesday. “Or as I like to call it, home.”

            “You turned innocent gingerbread houses and gummy bears into a murder scene?” said Bianca. “Weird, even by our standards.”

            “At least we had fun,” said (Y/N) “innocently.” Wednesday was tempted to smirk as Bianca glowered and (Y/N) just grinned happily.

            “I hate to say it, but I think Slaughterhouse wins,” said Enid, staring at it. “It’s so…detailed.” She smiled. “You really got into the Christmas spirit, Wednesday, (Y/N)!”

            “Thanks,” said (Y/N).

            “Take that back,” said Wednesday, offended.

            “Congratulations, you two get to choose the star for your dorm’s tree,” said Ajax, smiling.

            “Can it be flames to burn the monstrosity?” said Wednesday.

            “Hey, I let you put a voodoo doll of your family memory handing from a noose on the tree,” said Enid. “No disrespecting the tree.”

            “I like this star,” said (Y/N), picking up a silver snowflake. “Wednesday, what do you think?”

            Enid wiggled her eyebrows at Wednesday as Wednesday’s attitude melted away.

            “The edges are like daggers,” said Wednesday. “We can put it up.”

            (Y/N) smiled happily, and Wednesday’s heart thumped. How unfortunate, she was still alive. At least (Y/N) was there.

            “I’ll put it up. Come and see our tree, guys,” said Enid, pulling the others to see all the ornaments that had been put up in the dorm. (She wasn’t joking when she said she’d let (Y/N) and Wednesday add whatever ornaments they wanted. It was a little…grim, but, hey, it was also familial with everyone making their additions).

            (Y/N) watched the tree light up with the silver star on top. They smiled. “Thanks for making the gingerbread house with me, Wednesday. It was a lot of fun.”

            “Murder seems to be our specialty,” said Wednesday.

            “A lot more fun when it’s candy,” said (Y/N), chuckling. Reaching over, they picked up Hershey’s kisses and held out a hand. “Kiss?”

            Wednesday paused and looked at (Y/N). “What?”

            (Y/N) flushed slightly. “Chocolate? For a job well-done? It’s not dark chocolate, but it’s good.”

            Wednesday hesitated before reaching out and taking the candy. “I like sweet things. Occasionally.” She glanced at (Y/N)’s face.

            (Y/N)’s heart fluttered, and they smiled. “I’m, uh, glad.” They had no idea what that meant, but they could hope, right? Clearing their throat, they looked back at the tree and their friends. “Merry Christmas, Wednesday.”

            “Merry Christmas, (Y/N).”

• johnny's getting on in years, and you often poke fun at him for falling asleep in his comically large recliner, or his complaints about the younger generation when he gets a little too nostalgic. as famous as he is now, he defends his prime like a religion. this includes a movie night every week, and you half-protest to his own films each time. unfortunately for you, you caved when he gave you his world famous puppy eyes. damn him and his manipulative pleading stare!

• he was eerily silent about halfway through, lips sucked in firm and brows furrowed, hips adjusting ever so slightly every few minutes. he looked feverish, a little offputting, and his radiating heat was hard to ignore.

• the sighs and borderline whines were enough to fully grab your attention. "everything alright over there?" you glance at his form, his pajamas even still flattering his form beyond belief. he returns a side-eyed look, like a dog caught eating plastic.

• "mmh?" his exhale has a pathetic hum to it, lids low and pupils blown out. you'd been with johnny long enough to know that look, the one of sudden arousal. his sex drive was incredible for a guy his age, you were truly blessed, weren't you?

• you hum back, chuckling at his neediness as your hand snakes along his pajama-clad thigh. slowly gliding your hand up to his yes-yes zone, you catch a feel of his meatstick.

• he puts a hand to his chest with an offended gasp. "what are you saying?"

• "i'm sayiiiing," you pull lint from his shirt. "that we need to just keep it down and stop the funny business if you want me to actually watch your movies."

• "you love it," he beckons toward you and you cuddle up to his side, the blanket discarded as the heat would have left you two sweaty after all that's happened. "so... should i rewind, orrrr...?"

• jasper’s werewolfness! I’m thinking that the more he can accept that he’s a werewolf, the more control he has over it. however he’s not really doing a great job at the whole “accepting I now might be a monster and everyone might hate/be scared of me because of it” thing so his transformations are much more sporadic. and since he was bitten not that long ago, he’s still a little out of control when he transforms. a little more feral..? it really depends on his emotional state when going into his transformation. it’s not so much an alter ego/separate state of mind like hyde is in canon but more like a uncontrollable release of his emotions, so I don’t think he’d be able to see his wolf form in mirrors (that would be funny tho lol). he would definitely enjoy snacks and enrichment when transformed tho. puppy behaviour.

(I don’t have this entirely fleshed out and if someone else has a better idea, shoot!)

• rachel still bakes!! I’m not really sure if she’s still the society’s main cook or not but she definitely still likes to make snacks and treats for everybody.

• lanyon tried flirting with a cute guy he saw only to end up with a surprise two for one deal lmao. he initially went in just trying to woo Henry for shits and giggles but slowly gains more of a real interest/fascination with him over time. lanyon likes jekyll but is *definitely* offput by hyde. however, I think he eventually comes to like them both (in their own very separate ways). i think Robert finds it fun to try and see what tricks work on who and what traits carry over and which ones don’t. learning to love the entirety of his bf thru his two halves <3

• jekyll/hydes transformations i think are a mix of randomness and emotional shifts. they almost have a reverse arc as they do in canon? like they’re super unstable at the start but as they develop the potion and learn to work with one another better they start to have more control over it.

have you ever done a kiko review?

Kikos are one of the more unique Neopets, working as kind of a counterpoint to the Jubjub by having a round body with clawed hands and arms but no legs, and being smooth instead of furry (they're also aquatic, though that doesn't factor into the design much). Oddly enough they also have a pair of bandages on their heads, which has never been explained in-universe and I don't think was ever really explained out-of-universe either.

In terms of base colors, Kikos just have one solid color for their bodies with blue eyes. It's simple, but it works, and most of the hues they picked out are pleasant.

As for the rest of the design, Kikos are weird because they are very detail-specific—how good they look depends entirely on the following:

Defined muzzle/nose vs completely round

Larger pupils/highlights vs smaller

Mouth length

Eye spacing

Kikos can look very, very cute when they're portrayed with no nose, big pupils, close eyes, and a small mouth. When they're not, they tend to look offputting. How does the current design fare? Not... great.

With the original, the eyes were close together, there was no muzzle, and the mouth was small, making them look much more appealing. Don't get me wrong, they were in bad need of a redraw—the old art was dated, with bad shading and a poor sense of depth—I just don't think the direction they choose was the best. Here's an attempt at a combining the designs; it's obviously not perfect but it's maybe a bit closer?

Another thing that I dislike about the customized version is that the bandage was always the worst part of the Kiko's design, so you'd think they would make it a wearable, which would make sense. Nope! Outside of paying for Antenna & Horns Be-Gone! in the NC mall, you're stuck with that bandage. What a strange choice.

Favorite Colours:

Coconut: A new release, the coconut Kiko is super fun! I like the choice of making it a drink instead of just a normal coconut, and stuff like the leaf arms really go the extra mile (though weirdly enough they're wearable, while the umbrella isn't for some reason). The texturing on the body is realistic but not over-bearing, and the bandage blends in so you don't have to look at it too much. I do think the semi-transparent eyes are a little odd, but overall this one's pretty great.

Halloween: Making the Halloween Kiko a pumpkin was an obvious choice, and it works very well with the Kiko's round body shape. It also plays around with the head hair in a cute way by making it into the pumpkin's stem. My only issue is that they kept the head bandage for some reason, and if you remove the outfit in customization, you end up with... a second, smaller bandage underneath. What?

Both versions on this one are good; the customized version lacks a muzzle and thus is better-looking than most other converted Kikos, and the sense of depth and ability to take off the costume is nice, while the unconverted looks a bit more like an actual pumpkin.

Maraquan: Based off a user design, the Maraquan Kiko is both pretty and fun. A clam was a great choice, and the colors used for the shell are beautiful. Also really like the use of a starfish in place of the standard bandages. I just wish they dropped the hair—it's already a bit weird on the regular Kiko, but it looks even more out-of-place here.

BONUS: I have to give the transparent Kiko a shoutout for having to answer the question "what is a Kiko's anatomy" and not doing a terrible job at it. The head and body make about as much sense as they can, and the transparent bandages are a nice touch. For extra fun, you can also apply mouth-be-gone for a slightly creepier look.

sinclair got a lot of fun moments with ryoshu + heathcliff & ishmael. it was really nice to see all four of them getting along!! he's really becoming a part of the gang rather than just a punching bag/translator

dante's being really chill with killing people now. hooray!

MY COMPASS WAS SWALLOWED BY THE SEA- (ishmael makes a comment that donqui pesters her with questions about her "adventures" as she's the only other fixer on the bus which is really cute)

...now if i said she was kind of hot in this outfit. um. with. the cane. outis.... outis give me a chance...

i might just be gay but i gasped when rodya came on screen. and also i'm so glad we got don's full ego outfit in the regular style especially bc she's lying down in her ego and we cant see shit.

also the casting in the play was... interesting. i think while yi sang's play spoke a lot more to the internal factors of the sinners, sanson's play was like. WAAYYY more surface level to the point of being a little... offputting? like: rodya is poor. outis is old. gregor is an animal. heathcliff is a beast. sinclair is. a guy. like it’s so surface level it’s almost obnoxious. which is interesting, to say that what we're seeing is only the surface level don quixote and nothing deeper like when we actually go into the fathoms through other means.

and some more stuff:

dante talking to faust and charon during charon's "checkup" is really cute. they keep on thinking about life after working at lcb where they're still with everyone 😭😭😭 also so glad we're getting more charon content

"I always have so many questions floating around in my head, but whenever I stand in front of this man, my brain seems to forget them all" can they kiss already

vergilius not stopping don from declaring a duel against the cinq director because she acted like garnet 😭😭😭 really hoping for those two to have a genuinely good interaction this chapter

really liking the variety in emotions in don's voice... excitement, rage, determination, mix of range as well, high when she gets excited and low when she gets pissed. i really like how her flashback voice is just... softer than her regular voice, not particularly "lower" like warp express implied

speaking of voice acting, ishmael??? gregor?? they sound so tired... not sure how i feel about it, but it is a bit like ishmael being more relaxed around the sinners and then speaking more professionally when the p corp director steps in.

i really like how ishmael is more confident to banter back with vergilius, and vergilius is... "warmer" with the sinners

OH RIGHT MOSES AND EZRA! moses has some sort of connection with outis..? what's that about.

one more thing is that very very very few people in the pmooniverse have last names, but we do know that earnshaw/edgar are last names, and jia is definitively hong lu's family's last name. so a: i'm assuming last names are only for REALLY RICH people, and b: why is hong lu's name... not jia baoyu? it doesn't sound like he was disowned in the story, as his brother and cousin still hold jia as their family name... so... what's up with that

so theory time:

so don quixote created la mancha land, right? like. that's where this thing's going? someone who wanted humans and bloodfiends to live in peace? someone who wanted to protect humans and sustain bloodfiend lives in a non-violent way?

would be fun to have her parallel yi sang as in she still wants to destroy the person who created la mancha land (i.e. kill herself) but is unable to because of her contract with dante. i love angst

i first thought the man with the red text in the flashbacks was the real don quixote, and our donqui is actually sancho, but the Barber referred to sancho by name/in the present tense so. not sure.

we do hear vergilius a lot in the flashbacks, and we don't know the time between leviathan and don's recruitment. would it be possible he was trapped in la manchaland between its appearances, fighting bloodfiends for a year with his blood manipulation ego before he and donqui struck a deal with each other. hm. we'll find out

also (based off of canto v and vi) i can't wait to see either whatever gay ass parallel dante has with donqui's ex, OR what narrative parallels they have with each other... and they have a LOT in common (amnesiacs, relationships/emotions being their driving force, extremely powerful to their own self-detriment, strong moral code that goes against the laws of the city...)

Ok I wanted to talk about this on my twitter but realized it will appeal to no one so its going here. Being autistic about critter character designs. VERY LONG

Pim/Charlie/Allan/Glep have interesting designs to me like they are some of my favorite character designs possibly in any cartoon cause they're all very well balanced - easy to draw, cute, but slightly ugly also. Well maybe not ugly but certainly not Conventional.

(Glep applies slightly less there, he's just straight up a cute lil guy, how plushies don't exist of him yet baffles me)

I like their slight offputting quirks, like, Allan's spine is visible, Pim's Teeth. They are just strange creatures and I enjoy that. Of course there's also the fact all of their frontfacings (maybe slightly excluding pim's) are just kinda goofy and bizarre looking.

Its just, the choices being made here are really good, okay. They're very appealing lined up, yknow.

The fact they are just kinda cute sometimes makes the expressions being pushed and the weird quirks funnier. If pim was an ugly lil freak all the time it would be less effective when he does that weird awkward toothy laugh. Which brings me to my next "Point" which is like, I really enjoy that they are some of the only critters that arent.... fugly as hell

There are some few exceptions with BG/side characters (just look at amy, shes a pretty gal) but like, most of the side critters that have gotten screentime are very very strange. Allan's landlord is a prime recent example. Look at that guy. Jesus christ.

This is not to say the uglier designs are Bad, quite the opposite, I love when they are hideous <3 But the whole thing is, if the main characters we see every episode were on the same level as them appearance-wise it would get very tired. This is probably like, entry level design stuff for a cartoon, and not very interesting to anyone lol, but with adult cartoons it feels like it can go way too hard on the ugly scale.

Onto the next thing thats been on my mind lately when it comes to critters - I enjoy that their appearances truly are pretty random. Its fun to make things like crittersonas cause like, you can almost do whatever the hell you want lol

I like that some of them just dont feel like wearing clothes, this was talked about by Michael on twitter at some point a few years back I think.

Their hair is a topic that kind of mystifies me lmfao like we see the wiry sparse hair a lot (gnarly, filmore, etc) but then there are characters like amy, pims dad and duncan that have more full human-esque hair. This makes me wonder if its like, randomly possible for some critters to get full heads of hair, or if wigs/hair transplants are a thing, or even if hairloss is just more common which results in the wiry hair later in life. Really NOT important or compelling to anyone but me but I seriously do think about this. Critter Hair Essay coming soon (i'm kidding ............. or am i?)

Also just like, the concept of what critter beauty standards or smth could be sort of interests me, but this is getting incomprehensibly long and stupid anyway, and I would have to be going into heavy Speculation Mode there. so BYE Goodbye

like i only did it, cause i wanted to do all the job quests at relatively appropriate points in the story. but frankly very few of the job quests benefit from that approach storytelling wise so. yeah.

ranking the quests

dark knight. it gets off to a bit of a rough start, but its intentionally confusing nature works in this instance via returning to the jobs roots so to speak with soul partition. in this case, instead of the wol's repressed anger at always having to save the world, its the wol's repressed grief at the destruction and death that follows in their wake. and well the details could stand to be hammered out a bit, the quest on the whole handles itself quite well and has a show stopper ending that neither feels too overwhelming nor too easy and understated. ive heard it said that having the wol feel guilty over some of the figures myste summons is a lost cause, but thats rather missing the point. the point is not whether or not the wol is bad for killing them, so much as it is highlighting the very real sense of guilt that comes from such an action regardless especially when the humanity of these figures is constantly blasted into the wol's face.

samurai. solely because it makes me sad over what could have been if we actually got to play around in a hinagashi plot as opposed to it's kiddy pool in kugane. sadly it is also not a story i would cite as particularly memorable, which is a dire sign for the rest of the list frankly.

bard. the gay adventures between twink bard and twink lancer continue. another glimpse into "what could have been", in this case the fascinating world of geopolitics and cultural clashes between ala mhigo and gridania. blah blah, another example of how gridanias a lot more flexible and open minded then fans tend to make it out to be sure, but mostly i just find the subject of the autumn war fascinating as well as the topic of ala mhigo annexing land from gridania. theres a lot of story that could be built from that! that just isn't! fun! anyways, bard questline works and is also functional if understated.

astrologian. kyokashu is fun, and i'm always a sucker for the more weird supernatural side of things. its issue is that the front halfs offputting for no reason, and that its ending is just kinda eh despite some interesting mechanical play.

ninja. karasu continues to be the most fun character in these stories, and i like how the questline got ya doing more ninja stuff again. its ending definitely feels halfbaked though, if appropriate for something karasu would do. the thing holding it back is that theres not proper sense of escalation, even if all the cameos of previous npcs is fun.

dragoon. usually a highlight for me, sadly it was entirely inoffensive this time. not bad, just this is otherwise a kinda filler fluff kinda deal about helping a dragon kid get his mom and dad back together. cute dont get me wrong, and understandable given heavensward was "dragoon relevant story material, the game". just... kinda sad in relation to being the last proper dragoon questline.

warrior. i thought about putting it above dragoon cause i actually like it more overall. but then i thought about it in relation to the rest of the warrior questlines and remembered "oh yeah. this mess has been all over the place". so pretty good for stmb, but getting nocked down a point for "contexts" sake.

summoner. allagan robots and sentient tomes oh my. not a bad questline, but also kinda empty of anything interesting. everything the allagans show off is about per usual for what we've seen of them, and the sentient book is perfectly well adjusted and approaches everything that happens in a calm level headed fashion. this needed some kind of substantial dramatic hook, or to otherwise lean more into the fluff.

black mage. gets knocked down this far cause i feel it spins its heals on its interesting premise creating a dull overall story. on the other hand, it does salvage things by having some cute character writing all around.

machinist. getting to hang out with hilde sounds kinda fun, but it ends up being an aimless mystery plot that never gets off the ground. plus its final battle was weirdly annoying, and is just bizzare as a whole cause the lady randomly turns into a dragon and then is just not a dragon in the post battle cutscene.

red mage. left me with no strong feelings one way or another, and i feel it was a mistake to get so tied up in all this stuff on magic night freaks cause the story does jack shit with it. you had vampires, and you completely wasted it!!

monk. we are belabouring the fuckin point really, as this is all pretty much shit we've done before but with a new coat of paint.

white mage. normally im an advocate for the white mage questlines, but this one annoyed me in particular, mostly because i found the mother largely unsympathetic in her actions which mostly read as selfish, reactionary and controlling. at most i think her initial actions are understandable if impulsive. afterwards she just annoys me, not helped by her daughter being written as a "perfect lil angel who can do no wrong" kinda stock kid that hacks use when they dont want to write an actually interesting lil kid but still want you to care for them. everyone else is written pretty darn well, see the bard questline rankings about gridania, and i would rank this higher if the emotional heart of the story, the mother and her daughter, were at all written in a competent or compelling fashion.

scholar. made me realize that well i dont mind the nym characters, i actually kinda hate the lil glasses marauder whos attached to you the entire time. its an irrational hatred, but it remains all the same cause i find him both annoying and boring at the same time. another questline that feels like retreading old ground, but at the disadvantage of not being able to pick a lane which means the story runs out of steam by the time it gets anywhere. i always like learning more about adampor, nym and the magi city states however. just... this isn't a good questline.

paladin. suddenly we vear hard back into the gladiator stuff, cause i guess the paladin omegaverse just wasn't hooking anyone. the biggest sin this one commits is that it half assess its premise and has nothing interesting to provide. the actual plot is so inconsequential it gets wrapped up off screen, and we speed our way into a final fight with the blade of naid that was so easy and boring i felt genuinely kinda insulted. combine this questline with the heavensward ones sections about raising that lil elezen dude into a free paladin, and we might actually have something worth a damn.

and as a special side note for anyone who got to the bottom here. general thoughts on the gunbreaker and dancer job intro quests, which i am including separate and leaving unranked cause arbitrary reasons.

gunbreaker is... eh. its the samurai plotline but the teacher doesn't die and generally less emotionally investing. got me interested in whats gonna come up in shb though.

dancer made me think the plot was gonna go in a completely different direction at the start, but instead it just ends up being a pretty stock generic "the power of dance to move peoples souls and exorcise evil spirits" kinda deal. i do enjoy peoples reactions to the wol picking up dancing though, thats genuinely funny.

He’s actually going to be pretty excited! If he didn’t know, it was a pleasant surprise. He thinks that glasses make everyone look cuter (including him-) so you’re that much more adorable.

Also, he might steal them and put them on over his glasses. Just to make you laugh. And then he’ll always say “wow, you’re so blind!” even if your prescription is super low. 

Cannot stop staring at you. If you hate eye contact, it’s gonna be really annoying for a bit. But he just thinks you’re sooo cute… he can’t help it!

“You look absolutely lovely today, dear. I should’ve worn mine today, then we would’ve matched!”

Arthur is not that surprised. He would’ve asked if you wore contacts earlier, so he’d know your vision was not perfect. Neither is his! But he mostly wears glasses for uh… fashion reasons.

He might make fun of you a little bit, but he knows not to push it. He doesn’t want to annoy you too terribly. But maybe sometime he should move your glasses somewhere else… just so you have to ask for his help. Wouldn’t that be cute? No? Ah, well…

He might ask you not to wear your glasses very often if yours look like America’s though. It’s just… a little offputting. He might even offer to buy you a new pair in that case.

“Mon ange… have you been hiding this from me? You’re so adorable!”

He’s rather taken aback. He wasn’t expecting you to look so different… can you wear them all the time now? They make you look so modern and put together! 

If you ever put them down, he’s trying them on immediately. And then bothering you until you tell him that he looks cute in them. Just so he can say you look even cuter-

He’s definitely teasing you about it though. Even when you’re not wearing them, he’ll talk about you like you are. You’re gonna be on the receiving end of a lot of “you’re so blind!” jokes. Sorry!

He doesn’t really care that much, but he does get a little excited. In a very juvenile way. But if he didn’t know you wore contacts before, he’s just the tiniest bit surprised.

Immediately, he asks to wear them. He’ll laugh at how terrible your vision is and tease you about it for longer than you care to deal with, too. 

Specifically, he’ll call you old. Just because he’s so ancient and still doesn’t need them (yet.) This may not be funny to you, but it is hysterical to him. Just walk away and act mad, and he’ll apologize.

“What a lovely surprise! Are they new?”

As soon as he sees you, he’s giggling and blushing. He just can’t get over how different you look! It makes you look even cuter and dorky… he just loves it!

He won’t ask to try them on, but he will try and get you to ask him to. Just being like, “They look so cute on you, I wonder how they would look on someone else. Someone… um. Not short like you.” Please give in, he would be so excited.

He won’t tease you too much, but he can’t stop himself from commenting on it. Not too embarrassingly though, more just like “You should wear them more!” No comments making fun of how terrible your vision is-

“Why didn’t you tell more you wear glasses before?! Awh, you look like Germany!”

He’s very excited! He’s immediately fawning about how cute you look,  which comes off as a little insulting because of his insistence on how different you look.

Asks if he can take a photo of you. Why? He tells you he needs this moment to be immortalized. It’s not that big of a deal… but to him it is. For some reason.  

He’s also gonna have his eyes glued to you the whole time. If you compliment him, he blushes way more than normal. It’s like it put him under some spell! Hopefully, he learns to control himself soon…

He just thinks you look so fancy and adorable!

“So… do you normally wear those? Because they uh… they fit your face. Wait… I mean they fit well!”

Ludwig is going to be a little taken aback at first. You look… different with those on. Your glasses may just be a little piece of plastic, but he thinks you’re so much cuter with them on…

But he doesn’t want you to be so embarrassed about it, so he doesn’t comment on it. Other than a quick “Oh!” when he first sees you, and a stifled “You look nice today….” later.

Whenever he wears his glasses, he hates people's reactions. So he won’t subject you to any unnecessary staring. Even though he really wants to-

Kiku doesn’t really react very strongly. Unless your glasses are super dorky. Then he’ll giggle a little bit at your nerdy appearance. But other than that, he won’t tease you about it.

The most he’ll do is just mention the change. Maybe ask if this is a permanent change or just for now. But mostly, he doesn’t care. He has to wear glasses sometimes as well, so if anything, it’s just another thing you have in common.

i hesitate to reblog my comic pages a whole bunch of times because i have a lot of personal gripes and things i dont think look very good or i wouldve done differently or reworked if i hadnt been so fed up with it ESP. the dialogue im so bad at dialogue and i worry that reblogging it a bunch is gonna let other people notice that especially so long after ive made it. but also there are a few panels tjat ARE so so so cute

these first ones especially look good and i KNOW thats because the entire comic was just to give justification to THIS SHOT i LOVE this shot i was havign DREAMS avout this shot i have 5 different abandoned attempts to write it out in a fic i spent days thinking of nothing except how badly i wanted to cut his hair and run my hands over it and kiss him on his stupid head and i think it REALLY shows. esp the angle of his head when its turned away from the camera like that looks SOOOO good to me.

this bits fine i think it couldve been laid out better and i wish i was good at lettering but the drawings themselves are fine. i DONT think i figured out how to draw this hairstyle like i dont think it comes across well unless you already know what hes supposed to look like. but its fineeee i like how square i made his head and i like the ideaaaa of making fun of him for being old so i think the interaction is cute enough to justify the jank

JUST SO CUTEEEEEEE theres a lot of jank w proportions and shape but again the interaction is everything to me i like the idea that he isnt really comfortable being looked at like that? like in my head hes not an insecure guy and clearly hes very very confident in himself and his appearance but i just dont think hes comfortable being. treated affectionately in that way ? if that makes sense? i know some people disagree with this but i just dont think he really dates or even really does hookups so i think hes just easy to fluster. hes a confident guy but the attention he gets is usually more people being scared or finding him weird or offputting or gross. scary dog. so i just like the idea that he gets embarrassed when they look at him or call him pretty. and also i like when he shrugs it off by being a dickhead.

i wish i liked the panels on the second page more but it was a huge struggle to figure out and id been working on it for like 8 hours and i was so annoyed and none of the panels were turning out and i couldnt come up with anything better than the PLACEHOLDER DIALOGUE. and the panelling is ROUGHHH like the layout is just not good and i dont think it communicates what i wanted to.

but THIS panel is so cute to me I LOVE THEMMMMMM my friends my best friends. you can actually see on the hand here and a few other shots on this page i was STRUGGLING w my lines and was trying out a different technique that my best friend nini suggested where you block in a sillouhette and then erase out the middle chunk. and it looks really cool i like the look of it but i think you can clearly tell which things are done that way and which ones arent so its a bit jarring. but i DO wanna use that more because it looks good it just kind of conflicts with my normal process so i have to find a Project. it doesnt work well w an undersketch so i tend to use it when a pose just is NOT coming together or when i can really see it in my mind and just cant get the structures to work out.

this shot is ALSO REALLY CUTEEEEEEEEEEEEE I LOVE HIS FACE. this comic was fun because i usually use his long hair to cover his face (because i think its cute and cheeky to not show his face as much as possible and esp. when hes younger i just like the idea that he sort of hides it even before he had the mask.) so i dont have to worry about his expressions as much so it was FUN to get to draw his whole face. but also it changes the balance of what details i have room for? idk if you guys have noticed but i try to keep my shapes really distinct and my art not too busy so there are pieces where i will fully leave out details i think are there especially his facial piercings (youll notice he doesnt have them in this comic) and sometimes even his scar if the piece is too busy in the head/torso region. and a lot of times between his bangs and the way i do his facial hair i just end up leaving the scar out or leaving it as light implication. but it is always there. so because his hair is out of his face i got to consistently include it (though not every panel - see the one i talked about earlier? i leave it out there because i think itd make the blush lines not read as well and i was trying to stick to black and white.) and that was interesting to proportion. BUT ANYWAYS. this panel is so cute i think everything came out really well and i kind of nailed the style i was going for with it like the tooneyness is just totally there. i struggle sometimes with figuring out the right way to do his jawline and i think this one just clicked so nicely and its exacltly what i wanted it to look like.

although if youll permit me to ramble EVEN LONGER i worry sometimes that going so cartoony means he doesnt look "like roadhog" like ovw has such a semirealist style which i hardcore struggle with sometimes (and u can tell in this comic when i do try for that it doesnt looook as good) and i worry that im abstracting the realness out of him and not communicating it as well as some of the artists i really look up to who are SUPER good at striking that balance btwn cartoony exaggeration and expression and realistic weight and proportion (im not gonna namedrop but youve certainly seen me gush about their stuff before). it wouldnt bother me so much if he had like a canonical face like i dont sweat it with rat everyone knows what rat looks like but this is a guy i made up in my mind so i REALLY WANT to be able to communicate what i think he looks like so i get nervous doing these abstractions. but ultimately i think those abstractions are the better half of my work they just look better and i basically only draw for me anyways so leaving details implied works fine for me (ie: when i see his face in my head i think he has a lot more signs of age. but i leave them out because it would clutter the place too much)

anyways sorry for the impromptu directors commentary i just think SO MUCH abt my art and every decision i make has like 900 years of thought behind it and i like to talk. thanks if you read this far i love you 🫶

i had a bit of an idea when I saw some posts about that one terrible Disco Elysium take where someone said the game would have been better if it was about a lesbian witch in the Alps in a cozy/cottagecore setting, which i've seen sparked off discussions on how cozy and wholesome visuals (especially those that refuse to acknowledge how their homesteading fantasy doesn't address colonialism or past crimes done against indigenous peoples, and especially those that get HOSTILE over it) and it gave me an idea:

an antagonistic faction based around the cozy and wholesome cottagecore aesthetic, specifically in terms of how they clash with my primary character groups, who are by definition a bunch of weirdos; gross and deliberately rebelling against tyrants (to the extent of probably having trophies of body parts taken from slain villains) and being obnoxiously weird and offputting on purpose, reveling in rebelling against norms and restrictions because its fun, and therefore clashing with this type of enemy at a fundamental level?

the idea of living entirely on your own, or with a small group of friends and family, is more tenable in my settings; in real life you NEED some kind of organization at least at a local level to provide you with everything you need, making the homesteading fantasy not logistically sound, but here that kind of lifestyle IS possible. Everyone can instinctively use magical abilities, and it is more than possible to directly conjure up stuff you might need, though this requires rare magical substances normally found through great works of wild magic as a kind of reusable resource... or from the bodies of other magically powerful beings and monsters.

So a hypothetical group dedicated to the idea of living cozy lifestyles free from what they consider the unpleasant barbarity of the world they know (or fleeing disastrous or tyrannical regimes) may survive by cultivating magical disasters on purpose to reap the rewards, by hunting monsters of sufficient power to get those resources, or killing other magical beings to harvest their body parts. This last point can be used to combine the basic concept for a particularly unflattering take on the basic concept by conflating them with the 'spooky family of cannibals in the woods' style of horror, contrasted by the people doing this having a big fixation on elegance and wholesomeness.

off the top of my head a few ideas for this group might have:

They're a decentralized group that barely qualifies as a faction, being a large number of groups who have taken territory and rule of it as small fiefdoms. They tend to be at most small families and groups of friends, though disagreements cause them to split apart (and have a lot of bad blood and feuds between them, which can be a story hook as their schemes and plots cause problems for other people who in turn come to take retribution or make them knock it off). In general its a few people, often in romantic relationships for the whole 'living on a homestead with my wife' kind of thing.

They share common aesthetic interests and philosophies, mostly fixated on wholesomeness and cuteness. They see themselves as harmless, cute and sweet, and dislike things they see as gross, monstrous or rough. (Which describes many of my characters.) They will probably aid each other if required, but they're not a group in a traditional sense.

So how do they provide a threat? They are all well-versed in enough magical skills to produce figments: living imaginary friends and constructs generated from emotions and ideas invested into a semi-autonomous thing. These beings are not sapient, functionally being magic chatbots, and they can be created in just about any form and with some basic magical powers built in. Normally they maintain themsleves with a bit of investment, allowing people to make a LOT of them, entire armies, over a long enough period. So these homesteaders have created huge groups of workers, guardians and yesmen to do the hard work of actual farming, assuming they're not just generating fancy feasts from thin air and play-acting at the pastoral life.

This means that they can command quite powerful armies of monsters in whatever form they can imagine, based on their own personal interests, so they're likely to be fae-themed walking trees and the like, rather than anything you can really converse with. They're just powerful enough to be a problem, but not smart enough to deal with complex situations and therefore likely to go hostile or attack other people considered to be intruding upon them, making it VERY likely that they will start expanding that territory without realizing that's what they're doing.

This can also include these homesteaders driving off neighbors on purpose, resenting the intrusion (as they think of it), and anyone doing... say, dungeon exploration, or examining ruins, is likely to set them off. This faction is likely to be EXTREMELY territorial, even if they have no real interest in conquest; they're spiteful, self-centered and have a victim complex, meaning that long term feuds with people who run afoul of them is quite likely. Their emphasis on coziness also is a source of hostility; they require their neighbors to be STRICTLY regulated to keep things nice and uncomplicated, and they will drive off anyone introducing undesirable elements into their territory.

They can also serve as a warning of more organized, dire threats. Their magical powers are somewhat more complex than is common in the setting, so they may be from a more established and magically learned area that is no longer functional. This may be because they were scattered by a powerful, militarily ambitious faction that will prove to be a far more potent and direct threat, and encountering these homesteaders is a precursor to a far more dangerous peril.

They may also be a threat through the use of magic to terraform what they consider as unpleasant environments without regard for the ecological impact. My default group of characters tend to prefer swamps and wetlands for their territory, but these homesteaders dislike the stinking, insect-populated wetlands full of foul smells, bog mummies and rot, and have no interest for how their attempts to warp the swamps into forests will have terrible consequences for the land, motivating the characters to take an offense against them because the homesteaders magic is spreading, warping the environment and damaging their homes, and the homesteaders refuse to stop and won't even speak with outsiders.

(Also as I write this it occurs to me that there's some unpleasant similarities between what I'm describing and pre-civil war romanticizations of plantations, particularly that of chattel slavery, in the American South. In this case, these antagonists are making an imaginary society around them to maintain their lifestyles without any real concern for the effect on the world around them... or in particularly malevolent cases, they may attempt to warp the minds and wills of other people to force them into becoming a part of their fantasy and thus enslaving their minds, and viewing it as doing them a favor, because now they're part of something so CUTE and pleasant, and whatever rationalizations they want. This gives an obvious story hooks; these self-centered people are literally enslaving others and driving off anyone near them, so they need some good FACE PUNCHING NOW.)

I said at the start of my rewatch that it was really cute and sweet when aang and katara would just do things together and have fun, like they were friends who liked each other, and then grew to see each other as a real family. Unfortunately the writers of atla decided kataang needed to be oblique and endgame, and shoehorned romantic moments that dont flow and make zero sense, and it actively ruins the romance for me. The characters dont really grow or mature in their relationship, it just stagnates, and you feel like theres no real consequences to anything. Its to the point Katara is written really strangely, and her character is very inconsistent.

Heres an example: in season 1, bato of the southern water tribe, aang steals the message that says where hakoda is. When aang reveals he did this, obviously feeling horrible and guilty, katara and sokka are rightfully horrified and leave. Aang feels like an idiot, and doesn’t see them again until the confrontation with zuko and his crew. Aang then recovers katara’s necklace, and the gaang rejoins on appa and escapes. Sokka then say theyre aang’s family now and are with him, katara doesnt say anything but agree, and Aang gives katara her necklace back. At this point, it would make more sense if Katara were a typical teenager, that she would accept it and say that she needs time, but shed forgive aang eventually. Honestly katara should probably still be angry, because aang really hadnt done anything to make it right with sokka and her yet, but instead she kisses him. Its so awkward and out of place when i saw it in the episode i actually gasped out loud.

Katara actively goes from just Aang’s friend, and someone who yells at him multiple times for being a show offy jerk, to someone who is just there to be a mom. She just coddles him all the time. Its really weird. Aang should probably be getting told off for treating everyone like crap and agreeing that they should abandon hope, but instead everyone just walks on eggshells and just hope he doesnt blow up again.

I really dislike the dynamics this season for that reason. I feel like in any other show the protagonist would be held more accountable for their actions, but aang always gets a pass and its really wrong. It especially feels offputting when you see Zuko eat it over and over, and know hes actively changing for the better in front of you. Zuko has more rewarding and engaging character development, and hes not the protagonist, but at times in season 2 of atla, i really wish he was.

I... am about to do something silly and stupid when I'm very busy but it also kind of feels like it's been a while since I've watched a show at a very inopportune time so uhhh maybe it's like going back to my roots and my university days lol

Saw @/absolutebl's This Week In BL for Dec 14 and I've been out of the BL look for a couple months, so decided to look through it and "I did really enjoy the twist that the uke character (who is not in love) was more into having sex than seme character (who is in love). That was fun. And quite modern." caught my eye like oh? That's fun. And then ended up looking through a few edits on Tiktok and it seems so fun?

So I don't know how I feel about starting an ongoing show when I already have Spare Me Your Mercy going + this one is sooo long and will go on till like April next year + this one is far from one of my anticipated shows, I didn't even plan on watching it at all (the plot/actors didn't interest me from the mock trailer). So... why am I suddenly itching to watch it right now? Makes no damn sense. I'll give it a try and if I like it, I'll binge 8 eps for the ForceBook arc (bro I don't even feel any affection for this ship but maybe this will change it) and then binge the next 8 eps next year etc. or maybe I'll be like wtf and DNF it. we'll see.

7. i think people have a very high inertia when it comes to change. people can change, of course, but they often won't unless they see the consequences of Not changing as dire or catastrophic. when it comes to friendships or interpersonal relationships, i don't expect the other person to change very much (and in fact i kinda tend towards cynicism— i think most people will actively resist change), and the person i befriend will be the same at their core for the forseeable future. it's a matter of whether or not they have significant motivation to change beyond superficial aspects.

i feel like i'm required to give you a much longer analysis based on the length of this reply but like HONESTLY this screams Alien/Otherworldly Love Interest to me but like in the way of like Alien Lum or like a CatGirl or like Robot Guy not cuz i think anything you're saying makes you strange, in fact I think it's very human and organic what you're saying, but because there's a very honest, and earnestness to your answers that's kind of beautiful and would stay persistent even in a fish out of water situation, yk?

GMMTV 2024 part 2

As I expected, for me part 2 wasn't as satisfactory as part 1, almost everything I wanted I got in part 1 so there wasn't much left to impress me with. The only two series I'm actually very excited to watch are The heart killers and Us. I'm happy all the same, this event is always so fun to watch and there's plenty of series to look forward to.

These are all the series in order, the first one being the one I'm most excited about:

The Heart Killers: talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, etc. Once again GMMTV looked at my brain and decided to make exactly my ideal series. I was so excited watching the trailer the first time I couldn’t even understand what was happening but I saw Dunk finally being allowed to show us his gigantic biceps and I knew this show was made for me.

Us: this looks great, and this was only a mock trailer. I had hoped we get some more veteran actresses but the plot actually looks very cute and they seem to have great chemistry

Thame – Po: Heart That Skips a Beat: an interesting new couple, a compelling plot, it’s a solid win for me

Revamp: The undead story: they had me at vampires, plus Santa, also a must watch

Friendshit Forever: worst title of this lineup award. Mook and New as leads, they have me hooked already. The plot is kinda meh but it deserves a chance

The Ex-Morning: they gave KristSingto the exes to lovers and they kept talking about relinking flames through the entire trailer, and they were siping pink milk! I love GMMTV for this. Not a fan of the trope or the couple to be honest, but despite that the trailer felt compeling, and it will be very interesting to watch how they have grown as actors and how that affects their dynamic. Let’s see how the kissing goes tho

Sweet Tooth, Good Dentist: I love Mark and even though I prefer him with Neo he also has great chemistry with Ohm and I’m excited to see them work as a couple. But why dentists? I don’t think I can think of a more unappealing job for a romance lead. There are at least three series about dentists, WHY?? And the whole plot revolves around him and his job ???

Perfect 10 Liners: this was actually last in my head while I was watching the live but then I read that it’s 30 episodes long, 10 for each couple, not intertwined. So I’ll watch the PerthChimon one only, the plot seems cute at least. I’m not interested in ForceBook or JuniorMark enough to get through another two engineering students series.

Hide and Sis: best title of the lineup award. The trailer felt a bit off but I love a cast full of women so I’ll probably watch it. The plot could be interesting if done right.

Leap Day: I’ll probably watch too, if only for Gun in what looks to be a great role. I feel like both Pond and Dew have grown as actors so let's pray for that.

Scarlet Heart Thailand: I know what the original series is about and it’s not my cup of tea (period series, lots of drama) but the cast is a 9/10 (sorry but what is Win doing there) so if the trailer isn’t too offputting for me I’ll probably watch it.

Dark Dice: Gem and Prim and a bunch of kids I don’t know. Could be something, I’ll decide when the final trailer is out.

Ossan's Love Thailand: I usually love Thailand’s silly humour but not this time. I’m fond of Earth but kinda tired of him and his acting, I can’t help it. I didn’t even smile watching the whole trailer so probably not for me

Break Up Service: happy for Off but I don’t care about this.

I fully support the cause, would join the strike if I didn't just cook and clean for the family, but I come to tumblr to get away from the weight of the world, and share stuff to reflect that (though sometimes some more serious stuff gets in my queue, I admit. It's just that I learned a long time ago that I, personally, do not have the emotional structural integrity to keep up with the news. I used to keep up, but my own bleeding heart made me unbearably miserable 24/7, for a lot of years, when I already had other things making me miserable in my life. So I try to focus on fiction and fandom and blorbos and brainrot for my own mental health, and hope that spreading some (mostly) fun and cute vibes helps others get through whatever they're dealing with. More power to you if the righteous anger fuels your fire! It's just... for me, it burned me out. Big time. And I hope that isn't a problem between us. fake dates and mooncakes by sher lee: fake dating (obv) premise between a cooking boy and a rich heir! book that made me realized im honestly just not that interested in ya romance anymore LMFAO. pretty sweet and a decent read, but landed more heavily on the expository end of uhh i guess diaspora fiction? than i really prefer. i think i picked this up bc the author got mega cancelled on tyk twitter lol??

bird by bird by anne lammott: book about how to write. i love to read about how people do stuff :3 some of the advice applies pretty universally to creative efforts i think.. made me want to write more too

john dies at the end by jason pargin: DNF. comic/horror about this loser guy who discovers stuff. sigh i tried so hard to like this book its supposed to be pretty 'mecore'...talked about this with alena a bunch but its like hm... i know the sort of casual offensiveness sort of goes in hand with being poor and white and in the midwest and i appreciate how its like that creates its own doomed narrative or whatever. but also i feel like the protagonist would call me slurs or something. also the lowgrade but pervasive orientalism is kinda offputting. probably fun for some other guy! i did enjoy the horror elements though

the goldfinch by donna tartt: literary coming of age about a boys relationship with a painting (the goldfinch). also he flops a lot and its sort of homoerotic i guess? a movie was made of it. so something to note is that ive had this book out on loan since literally december. neil kept on being like hey man just stop reading it LMFAO. thoughts cp'ed from discord:

the bodyguard by katherine center: romance novel about a woman bodyguard who lives for her job. fresh from a breakup, shes given a new undercover assignment with a handsome actor, recently withdrawn from society. will they be able to break each others' shells....? my mom recommended this to me LMFAO we kind of have different tastes in romance.. ive read a book by this author before i think her platonic scenes are very strong? i wish there had been a couple more of those. also i like how she always includes a life affirming section at the end about how important it is for us to open ourselves up to love etc etc cute but not especially memorable

kiss quotient by helen hoang: (reread) a shy, autistic econometrician decides that she needs to get better at sex, and so hires an escort. helen hoang is one of my faavorite romance authors i really enjoyed this reread although i kinda forgot that both leads say, think and do some pretty embarrassing things. but you know a little embarrassment is endearing and all that.. i still prefer her other book (the bride test) but this one is pretty good too. vivid characters 👍

sisters of dorley hall by alyson greaves: web fiction - a trans woman infiltrates a secret force-feminization program. ok im just cp'ing my thoughts from discord again but i enjoyed it a lot:

my thoughts are that the first like, third? is really really good. it like idk takes the very real trans fears of like discovery and passing and all that and fictionalizes them a bit. but like its still grounded and swag. sooo tense once The Reveal happens n things w steph are pretty normal it gets kinda meandering? which i dont really mind bc i love interpersonal drama even if i miss how tense and scary it was. but also theres only like two major plot threads going on rn and theyre both pretty slowburn. a timeskip would probably benefit tbh like the point rn is kinda like. the 7 year meteor? yeah sorry

like it used to be sort of psychological thriller? and now its sort of more character focus and also surprisingly fluffy.. im surprised that the author has said they have a complete outline bc it doesnt feel very focused atm? but also like i suppose things are snowballing a bit re: revealing the sisters to the outside world

an unauthorized fan treatise by lauren james: a fangirl trying to prove her rpf ship is real uncovers a greater conspiracy. to me if something is able to capture a specific age/vibe from the internet its automatically pretty good. however more and more people are learning how to do that so maybe i should change my standards... i was never involved in All That re: rpf or even fandoms of live action shows until kamen rider? but like i definitely knew people in hs that were sort of like this LMFAO so it felt very familiar. i appreciate the author trying to make that $$ but i dont know if it really needs an expansion/sequel.. the ending is better off with some ambiguity imo

impossible us by sarah lotz: literary romance? a man and a woman fall in love online, but encounter difficulties when they try to meet. ok im just pasting my thoughts here again (spoilers btw):

xo kitty: kitty goes to a school to connect with her online boyfriend, but all is not well. yall this was not good. i guess my standards shouldnt have been that high but to all the boys ive loved before was so cute!! (havent watched/read the others). but like.. the writing was bad and the main actress just wasnt very sympathetic or charming? characters waste time saying "i can explain" until time runs out for them to actually explain, additional (and nonsensical) romance plots are added for no reason, and the male lead isnt even that hot. sorry. also kitty deciding to move to korea to connect with her mom but not bothering to learn a speck of korean and insisting that everyone else speak to her in english really sucks honestly. not even my mom liked it so thats how you know its bad 👎

succession season 1: yesss succession. greg is my favorite cant wait to see him become evil. makes me stressed

shin kamen rider (hideaki anno): reboot of the first kamen rider by the guy who made evangelion. this guy kinda makes the same thing over and over but it looked sick as hell so i wasnt complaining. like stella obstinaterixatrix said, kinda more introspective or even insular to the point of kinda ignoring the usual kr theme of justice but it was still very fun :3 kinda want to watch the original now

ready player one (movie): my parents made me watch this movie. aggressively mediocre.

kamen rider revice and live and evil and demons: pretty fun if you have the disease that makes you think revice is good, but mostly made me miss revice. i think they should have gone more into the clone thing but i always think that so

kamen rider juuga vs kamen rider olteca: two-parter special for kr revice. i forgot what happened in this pretty much immediately after but karizaki was hot

roman holiday: a princess touring in rome escapes her duties for a day, and meets a dashing young reporter. classic romance!! i actually liked this so so much like it actually is very romantic and funny and like deserves the hype. didnt expect it to be in black and white even so audrey hepburn is really hot. (spoilers) more romances should have bittersweet endings though like it hit

kamen rider ryuki: a young man is inducted into a battle royale between those fighting for their deepest wishes, and decides to try and stop the rider battle once and for all. hey guys ryuki is so fucking good for those who have watched madoka magica a lot of it is very heavily based off of/inspired by ryuki! but ryuki does it better. pretty much The kamen rider has so much to say about justice and love and what it means to be a hero and sacrifice and *runs out of air and falls over* also it made me cry. if you ever try kamen rider try this one <3

EDIT OH i forgot about across the spiderverse 100/10 obviously groundbreaking in animation nice take on generational trauma and also like the nature of adaptation and being in a multimedia comics franchise and all that. really hope the sequel doesnt get crunched too bad. oh but copaganda not great 99/10

video games:

twisted wonderland: gacha game where random disney villains are bishie high schoolers instead. ill play chapter 3 sometime soon i swear. gameplay is terrible as with most gacha games but the characters are cute? i feel terrible guilt for being involved with a disney franchise. honestly pretty compelling character writing sometimes though sorry

apico: stardew-like about raising bees (in beta). sooooo cute and the devs obv care about bees a lot in real life. the gameplay loop + breeding systems are a little bit punishing right now though i really hope it gets adjusted. took over my life during finals (woops) and i got like half the bees and then burnt out. multiplayer is fun though!

legend of zelda tears of the kingdom: the next zelda game, now featuring building + vertical elements. yeah this took over my life for two months like it did for a bunch of other people i finished the main story a couple days ago! i might go back to do a couple more of the shrine puzzles, but other than that i think im done. LOVE the vertical elements and also all the little sidequests there are to do and how the world has changed since botw. dragons tears was really good and OMG PROVING GROUNDS. would be a 10/10 if zelda was the protag stop damseling her you guys cmon

paper mario origami king: newest paper mario game, which is a spinoff of the main series where theyre all paper (duh). im about halfway through this, i think? tried it out because of the dunkey video lol and also bc it was free at my library. very charming and inventive, has a really good soundtrack and really funny writing! i know the gameplay was controversial, but im enjoying it a lot (and theres a lot of room for error). might 100% it

it feels like this month i tried a lot of things that i didnt really like LMAO. also a lot of romance. im very happy about finally finishing the goldfinch! the only holdout on my libby is slaughterhouse 5 :P i did find some things that i really liked though! anyways this one feels a bit more scattered but if you got to the ending, congratulations! thanks for reading :3
