i'm thinking about that one post where someone was talking about how shook they were when they found out catholic churches just have little bowls of holy water by the door for everyone to stick their hands in and do the sign of the cross.

and while i find it funny that this is considered weird to non catholics, i also think it's important to remember that this is the same institution that gives 8 year olds wine in public as part of their initiation into the church. the holy water by the door is the least weird thing about the catholic church.

#'oh but isn't it grape juice?'#no. at least where i live it is wine regardless of age #when i had my first communion i drank wine #granted it's slightly watered down but some priests add barely any water #like yeah we've got holy water everywhere but we're also giving children alcohol #(i saw we as if i'm practicing. i'm far from a practicing member of the church but that's a conversation for a different day.)#catholicism
