thinking about malenia ferin again. may doesn't even make sense as a nickname for her. there is no /e/ in there at all. it's an /æ/. and i know weirder shortenings of names exist. but with the context of the ferins all naming their children so there's an 'ey/ay' somewhere in there it's... she gave up her name! she lost it! it was taken from her!! and there's no convention for taking a spouse's last name in mana (confirmed by grizzly in their discord) so she lost her name TWICE. malenia i'm so sorry. i'm so so sorry. she was sixteen when she had ava. she was a kid. she has all the excuses to be horrible and cruel and hardened but she's just tired. she's still kind and open-hearted and so caring. thinking about her makes me so sad
