🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?

I think I started writing fanfic in my senior year in college. I was in the midst of a very traumatic breakup and something about jumping into a different reality was very appealing at the time. I'd always loved to write, and been unhealthily obsessed with HP, and so it flowed from there. Now I just really enjoy it as a hobby, though there's always a bit of escapism in it, I think.

I think my fanfic reading gateway might've been TLAT? I read that and was like omg, people are posting these masterpieces for FREE?? Still feel that way tbh.

Oh wow I love this question, diving into my AO3 inbox is such a joy. It is my greatest shame that I am NOTORIOUSLY bad at responding to comments, so if you've ever left me a comment please know it was read and so very appreciated.

This will sound absolutely silly, but whenever I need a pick me up, I come to reread this (spoiler alert: I've lost count of how many times I reread it). This fanfic is, for sure, my favorite Harry/Ginny AU of all time. I adore how you describe every single of the characters, their friendship, how they fall in love, and everything. Really, everything. I don't have enough words to say how amazing this is and how thankful I'm that you shared it.

The idea that people would return to something I've written for a pick-me-up brings me so much joy - it makes me think of all the ways we affect one another without even knowing it, and all the times that other people have made me feel better with their writing.

He really is and it’s amazing seeing these two get to this place together <3 The piggy back rides had me absolutely feral ohmyfuckinggod. These kids are too much!! My heart is bursting with love for them!! They’ve been on such a journey!! And it’s so lovely seeing them end up where they belong :’)

You know when you tinker over a few lines to try to get them just right, to try to capture the exact feeling you want to portray? And then you secretly love those few lines, and hope that they affect people the way you wanted them to? And then some queen goes and hand picks those exact lines to tell you how much they loved them? Inject that feeling into my veins.

Guess what, guess what? My tenth anniversary of posting fic is coming up on May 24th! To celebrate, I’m planning a 10-day Tumblr party, but I need your help! I have a collection of fic and writer memes that I’ll be sharing, which means I need y’all to submit questions! I made some mistakes in queueing yesterday, so there a couple on my blog already--thanks to @whatthefawkes, @narukoibito, @whizzfizz, and Nonny for being so quick on the uptake :D

I’ve been working on a new fic for the occasion, but it’s not ready yet since it unexpectedly expanded from a scene to a long one-shot to a multi-chap. I may still be able to scrounge something out of my WIP collection, though. I also plan to chat fic in general, my fic in particular, and share some highlights of this amazing decade-long(!) adventure as well as my plans for the next six months or so. (Although those of you who’ve followed me for a while will know I’m much better at planning than follow-through.)

Posts will be tagged #ktoo turns 10 so you can follow along (or not). 

This is not about bragging or self-promotion (okay, maybe a little self-promotion); I’m just a big believer in celebrations. I think it’s important to recognize milestones and accomplishments, and sometimes you can’t wait for others to do that for you. Not to mention this has been a horrible year for me; the second-worst year of my entire life. I need some good and happy things, and other than my friends and my cats, there is not much in my life that consistently brings me as much enjoyment as fic.

Fic Writer Interview

Name:  I like a bit of mystery, but you can call me SK (my real life initials) 

Fandoms I write for: Harry Potter ⚡

Favorite two-shot: Flirt, because it’s how my OC Craig was born and I adore him 

Most popular multi-chaptered fic: If you don’t count my Craig collection ( a series of three two shots), then its Thankful, the first fic I ever wrote (and its only got three chapters). I write mostly one-shots- long multi-chapters are very daunting to me, so hats off to those who write amazing long fics! 

Actual worst part of writing: Actually writing something instead of just staring at the doc- I’m going through a bit of a block when it comes to writing these days.  

How you choose titles: One word that is a theme in the fic.  I’m terrible at titles and this is the lazy way out, I know.

Do you outline: Nope. Hence all the one-shots 😂 I think I would try to if I ever wrote a longer multi-chaptered fic (but would probably never manage something terribly detailed)  

Ideas I probably won’t get to but would be nice: I’ve got a lot of barely written WIPs languishing in my drafts these days. I’ve got an idea for a series of missing moments from Ginny’s POV that I would love to finish one day.  I also want to write a little backstory for Craig of when he was still at Hogwarts. 

Callouts @ me: Maybe one day you’ll write grown-up fics with actual plots and feelings and not just little bits of fluffy moments or cringe humor.   

Best writing habits: I don’t think I have any. Seriously, I’m terrible. I write exclusively on my phone. I tend to do my best writing when I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep. I can’t really write anything halfway decent unless I’m really inspired by an idea, so I’ve got loads of WIPs that I start and never finish (and the ones I finish tend to be fluff or humor, because that’s typically what I’m inspired to write). I’m working on writing more and trying to challenge myself to go outside of my comfort zone.

Spicy tangential opinion: I think this is my own personal issue (I can be an insensitive person sometimes and I’m not particularly touchy-feely), but angst in some post-war HP fanfic is often too much for me. I love the characters, they’ve all been through so much, they’re pretty resilient (especially Harry), and I just want them to be happy and enjoy their lives!  I like fics that show them addressing what happened to them in the past, but I’m not emotionally equipped to handle heavy angst.
