my bf and i made a jesskas stardew valley au and we have been playing like crazy nonstop like it’s all i think about right now so here’s a bunch of doodles for it 😍

in the au jesse is the farmer who moves into town from the city and lukas replaces a character named penny, basically living her life (they both share interests in a few things and both have such kind, caring personalities so it fits trust me bro). for those who don’t know… penny’s life in game is kind of horrible. if you are familiar with the game, i’m sure you know what penny’s deal is and the dark reality she is living with her mother who happens to be an emotionally abusive alcoholic. so lukas deals with that, along side a few other things that kind of make his home life way worse (i’m so sorry lukas) but finds solace in the new farmer that he hadn’t met until about a whole year into jesse already living in beacon (pelican)town.

Tuned in to a livestream from Books of Wonder a few weeks ago that featured a bunch of middle grade fantasy authors: Mia Aruajo, George Jreije, Anne Ursu, Pari Thomson, and Jessica Townsend. It was supposed to be recorded but technical issues caused it to move to Zoom, so I tried to write things down the best I could.

I was one of 2-3 viewers so I got to have my questions answered! Only recorded what Jess said, but everyone gave interesting answers.

If you didn't write your books and had to read another author's vision of it, what author would you like to see tackle your story?

Richard Osmon, because she’s been reading so many murder mysteries lately. Would love to see 919 as octogenarians.

If your books had an animated adaptation, what style would you want to see most? 2D, 3D, stop motion, or something else?

Ghibli! Didn’t grow up with them though, and only discovered the movies recently.

There wasn’t much else because Silverborn hadn’t come out yet in the US so she couldn’t really discuss it in detail, but here are some little tidbits I wrote down:

— Mentioned how she “knows quite a bit about a lot” of the 27 boroughs in the city of Nevermoor, which gives me hope we’ll see more sometime.

— She loves taking fantasy things and fusing with the mundane things in the world and the bureaucracy of how things work.

—— Specifically with dragonriding: she wanted to make it dirty, like horseracing with all the money flying around and corruption.

— Her favorite characters to write are always the random little side characters.

—— Her favorite with Hollowpox was Nurse Tim and she “can’t wait to write more of him.”

— “Really, really, really,” enjoyed writing every scene of Squall in this book, our view of him is rapidly evolving.

— She has no specific writing process or routine.

— She said “I don’t know if it’ll ever happen” about the movie which cracked me up, but she just means it’s being developed but has yet to be actually greenlit.

— Lot of things “set up to fall down” in Book 5.

LMAO. look. is it my fault that charlie has chemistry with everyone on the team? no!!! heart of the team etc etc 😌 idk, i just love love. i love the idea of different types of relationships with different types of people, and the possibilities that come with each type of love. i love the idea of finding a 'true love' in different people (platonic or romantic). and i just love exploring different dynamics!!! like, for ex. charlie/jesse is a completely different dynamic from charlie/adam, so it's fun to be able to write that. HOPEFULLY i'll add to my growing charlie/duck collection in the future

more Severen making Caleb's afterlife hell:

they're fighting in a hotel room (could they afford it? no. did they eat the finance bro and his girlfriend who were staying there and then just keep the room? yes.) over a game of poker that quickly went south, Severen's citing a rule that absolutely does not exist, and Caleb knows he's lying, thinks he's cheating, and has about had it.

Mae is sitting back weighing the odds of Caleb surviving an actual fight with Severen because she thinks an actual physical fight might get it out of their systems (she has also considered suggesting the two fuck and get it over with, but they might not be there yet). Homer is watching TV (bad at cards, never takes risks) and has since claimed the fold out bed that Mae and Caleb had called dibs on two hours ago.

Mae tells the boys she's going for a walk right around the same time Diamondback shouts from the other side of the bedroom door that they need to shut up or hotel security is gonna wander up (the leftovers are still in the bathtub, so that's a bad idea).

Caleb shuts up and gathers up the cards, tries to deal them again, and Severen slides card out of his sleeve--if Caleb had a little less rage and a little more brains, he'd have realized that if Severen wanted to be subtle, he would have been. He calls him out on it, Severen denies it, half-assing Mae's accent in a falsetto, and now he's done it, now he's insulted the girlfriend, and Caleb's this close to throwing a punch.

Severen backs off with a laugh, and grins: "Why don't you go tell Mama on me?" Caleb sits down. He's grown. He doesn't have to run and tattle but. Well Diamondback once pushed Severen off a balcony for crossing a line while joking round, she might even know if the play from earlier broke the rules or not.

In Caleb's defense, the door wasn't locked, but. But oh no. The poor dumbass opens the bedroom door without knocking, barges in, already asking after the rules, but doesn't get half of a sentence out before a) he realizes what he walked in on, and b) the occupants start yelling at him, less in embarrassment, and more in shock what the FUCK are you doing?! Caleb does his best to stumble back out the door without taking his eyes off the floor, stuttering apologies, he is BRIGHT red and Severen is on his back on the floor laughing so hard he's crying."I was just jokin', boy; if they get a room with a door, you don't want to open it."

Mae comes back, sees the looks on their faces, asks them what happened, and then turns to ask Homer what happened, "Severen sent your boyfriend into their room, they're probably going to throw him out in the sun before the end of the day."
