It's not everyday that I post something about babies, so read up! Author Cory Silverberg and illustrator Fiona Smyth has created a wonderful new children's book called What Makes a Baby. Before you freak out about what may potentially be in the book—don't worry, everything's safe for work. In fact, it's better than that: it's safe for everyone, because it's a children's book that explores what makes a baby for everyone. It's a book for every kind of family, with every kind of child.

Geared to readers from pre-school to about 8 years old, [What Makes a Baby] teaches curious kids about conception, gestation, and birth in a way that works regardless of whether or not the kid in question was adopted, conceived using reproductive technologies at home or in a clinic, through surrogacy, or the old fashioned way (you know, with two people and some sexual intercourse), and regardless of how many people were involved, their orientation, gender and other identity, or family composition.
