     there’s a second, when emil casts down his eyes, where tom fears he has changed his mind about dinner. it subconsciously makes tom chew at his bottom lip as he sucks in his breath. emil might just make him forget how to breathe altogether - that is, if they proceed how they have been. “i fear i’ll need all the time i can get to brush up on my technique,” he says, well-knowing that he probably will not: the in-person practice with emil has far more benefits anyway, if he is not mistaken. “a rain cheque it is.” tom looks down at the fingers that run along his skin, wondering if he would mind it very much if he put his hand over them and held them still against him. he imagines leading them back up and down his arm and maybe onto his chest. tom has to shake his head not to get lost in the thought.

     it feels stupid to him that he continues to just stand there while emil moves to get something wipe himself down. his eyes follow him around, taking in as much of him as he can before he comes back over. he is creating a terrible habit of gawking at him whenever there is a chance. it takes him awhile to realize that he’s talking again, “sorry?”  his brows knit together just above his glasses, “yes, you are welcome to it - as long as you don’t burn the place down and get me in trouble with the landlord. he’s suspicious of me as it is.” he’s not sure what his landlord will feel about the guest either, but he is willing to take that chance.

     as he is talking he spots a little sweat running from emil’s brow and down his cheek. without thinking he reaches for his rag and wipes it away like it is nothing out of the ordinary. “there,” tom says, giving a small laugh, “we should probably get going”. 

     he leaves little time for the other to react before he is off to find the rest of his clothes and his jacket. he is eager to leave, and since it feels like home is ages away, he needs the fresh air to cool down. a bit of ice might more so do the trick, but he’ll make do. “there’s is a grocer on the corner of my street, maybe you can find what you need there? i think you’ll find my stock quite lacking,” he says eventually as they are headed towards the door, “i think i have a bit of cash on me.” 

truth be told he wouldn't mind another round. it's been a while since he has sparred with anyone and a part of him is antsy for it, like his muscles don't know how to relax without a fight. it builds at times. an itch he can't scratch. an itch he doesn't want to need to scratch, but it's there all the same. even still, when he looks at tom he knows he is hardly the sort of person he should be using to fulfill that need. anything more intense than this playful mockery of combat would feel cruel. emil isn't even sure he would have the heart for it no matter how much healthy competition might stir between them. there are far better urges he could satisfy with him.

amusement settles in his demeanor, finds a home in lines upon his features which are used to frowning and warms parts of himself he long thought cold. he only lifts a brow, not denying the lighthearted accusation. his expression subtly shifts when tom leans close, however. something in his eyes darken with desire and he is lucky that they're downcast when they do, gazing blankly at other man's hands, down his legs. ❝ okay, ❞ he says lowly, nodding. ❝ guess i'll take a rain cheque on that rematch. ❞ his hand slowly moves away from behind his back and he allows his fingers to just lightly graze tom's forearm.

there's a smirk still pulling at the corner of his mouth and he suddenly feels as if there are too many eyes on them. too many people to invade their privacy. he is anxious to be rid of the world. ❝ might have to get some supplies first, ❞ he notes as he lifts his eyes up to meet tom's. if he were home, if he were where he belongs, he could take him to a beautiful apartment filled with luxury. he could cook him the finest foods with the most delicious wines. but he has none of that here. his place is small and the wallpaper is atrocious. finding fresh ingredients that meet his standards is more difficult as well. everything is harder here. everything except this, at least. for no other reason than to shield his own emotions, he turns away to find a sweat rag. his forehead is barely even moistened at all but he picks one up all the same and turns with a second one to offer out to tom. ❝ my place is still a work in progress, ❞ he says sheepishly. ❝ i might have to commandeer your stove. ❞

I don't think I really have any really solid headcanons and also canon keeps validating me left and right (FLUFFY DOMESTIC DIAFAM IS REAL). mostly just kind of...impressions and general thoughts, if that makes sense! lately though I've been kind of obsessed with thinking about Lilia's hair, and specifically when/why he ended up cutting it. (l-look, we're bouncing around the timeline and I gotta make decisions about these things when I draw, it's relevant) (I mean I would probably be weirdly fixated on this anyway, but.)

I think I've settled on the idea that he kept it long until he went to NRC, partly because 1) I like drawing The Ponytail, and 2) I think he thought of NRC as a chance to reinvent himself a bit! he gets to go and be a wacky carefree teenager for a few years and have fun! (officially he's there to keep an eye on Son #1, but how much trouble could he get into, really.) so he gave himself a Cool Teen Haircut to go with his fresh new Cool Teen Persona!

also maybe he had some reflection on his hair's troubled past with three kids...

...and had to weigh his vanity versus the fact that he was going off to be around hundreds of kids on a daily basis, and. the choice suddenly seemed obvious.

seriously though, this turned out to be harder to answer than I thought! I did actually manage to pull Stitch Lilia (THANK YOU TWSTFEST for the free bonus keys!) and he's absolutely adorable, I've literally been doing random battles just to watch him surf around and high-five Stitch. a fine addition to the Lilia collection!

in terms of proudest/most unbelievable achievement, that is 100% when I somehow managed to pull every single Scary Monsters card except one (only missing Rook!). I think I used up all my luck on that one, but at least it was for the Halloween cards! (after Scary Monsters and Glorious Masquerade, I'm so afraid of what this year's Halloween event is going to be, what if they look amazing how am I supposed to save my keys nooooo)

if I REALLY have to pick one, though...there is actually one card that I think I would call my favorite! he just makes me happy every time I look at him. :>
