This is specifically re: journeys which are undertaken by a physical body outside of a vehicle - obviously in Left Hand of Darkness they were using sleds, etc, but in all of these they weren't traveling by enclosed powered vehicle like car or space craft, and their physical bodies were very much involved in the travel, as well as the danger of the slow degeneration of flesh and mind by the journey (the main danger not being like a spaceship blowing up or being shot at).

The origin of this was just me going like "which isnt a lot but it's weird it happened 5 times!" meme, but then was like actually that maybe IS a lot, and then considered: Damn. I feel genuinely insane when youre looking down at zevran after he tried to assassinate you and is asking for his life while you could very much kill him and you ask him, sort of offhandedly, why he joined the crows and he immediately starts defending them. he tells you they bought him to raise as an assassin and he goes don’t worry about that. its fine now because i have everything i could want. and then he very subtly says, well, everything but my life. and THEN even MORE subtly says, well, not that its even mine. just a life, would be fine. i feel like poolverine easily could’ve been one of those “they’re flirty but it’s mostly unserious” situations, and for most of the movie yeah they were extremely gay, but wade’s been like that with other guys and it was never treated as a serious type of relationship before. they’re willing to die for each other, but even then the romantic aspect of their relationship could be glossed over because it’s a superhero movie, that’s just what they do, and they’re working together to save a whole timeline—it’s not just about them. but then the movie doesn’t end with them saving the day and moving on. i think this’s really the part that sells poolverine as a genuine relationship to me… logan’s leaving, and wade calls for him. he can’t stand to let him go. then he introduces him to his family, and logan stays. he doesn’t really need to stay, but they’ve both decided they’re better off with one another than without

Why are people mad at the barbie promo?

it's not a standard promotional cycle for a film that happens to involve mattel's famous toy. it is a massive brand push to revitalize a product for a new age, and the movie is the commercial. it is not normal to have promotion that includes collaborations with: airbnb, hair tools, many makeup companies, rollerskates, forever21, canned lemonade, ruggable, toothburshes, skincare, shoe lines, gap, pacsun, OPI etc etc etc............... like i'm going to go see the movie! it will in all likelihood be fun and enjoyable. but this rollout is explicitly mattel's first phase in what they hope is a HUGE endeavor to make "cinema" out of every one of their products, as a way to get more people to buy these products. regardless of how the barbie movie turns out, it is not actually good for anyone to have a failing film industry turn to self-cannibalizing commercial products for story. i hope everyone has a good time! i don't give a fuck if you want to buy a hot pink dress and go with your girlfriends and revel in your #womanhood or whatever. but the degree to which mattel has already had input in the actual movie + made people think that their massive push of product is some sort of cool innovative trendy Promotion (while having plans to do this to. 45 other producuts) is like. lol oh boy.
