What's hemoglobin doing in the skin? Is defences' roots awareness really "skin deep"?
Researchers have shown for the first time that hemoglobin, a protein found in red blood cells where it binds oxygen, is also present in the epidermis, our skin’s outermost body tissue. The study, which appears in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology provides important insights into the properties of our skin’s protective external layer. This research was driven by a curiosity about how the…

Iran Placed Terrorists In US With Access To Surface-To-Air Missiles To Take Down Trump Plane: Report
The Secret Service also shot down a drone last year that was following Trump's motorcade around.
Tumblr media
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s efforts to assassinate President Donald Trump were far more extensive than previously reported, as was the president’s fear of having another attempt on his life.
In his new forthcoming book, “Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump’s Return to Power,” Politico reporter Alex Isenstadt says that he was given “extensive access” to Trump’s inner circle during his campaign.
“Law enforcement officials warned Trump last year that Tehran had placed operatives in the U.S. with access to surface-to-air missiles,” he wrote in a report published at Axios. “Trump’s team worried that the Iranians could try to down his easily recognizable personal jet — better known as ‘Trump Force One’ — as it was taking off or landing.”
Their concern that Iran would try to shoot down his airplane intensified after he survived a foiled assassination attempt at his golf course in Palm Beach, Florida.
The threat was so serious that at least on one occasion Secret Service made Trump fly on a different plane rather than his own.
Trump’s plane was flown as a decoy with a number of his aides on board.
There was another incident that had not been previously disclosed in which Secret Service shot down a drone that had been following Trump’s motorcade using an electromagnetic gun that disabled it.
The threats from Iran come as Trump threatened last week to unleash all hell on the country if they dared to assassinate any current or former U.S. officials.
Trump said last week that he has left behind instructions for the U.S. military detailing what they will be ordered to do if he is assassinated by Iran.
“And that would be a terrible thing for them to do,” he said. “Not because of me, because if they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end. I’ve left instructions — if they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left.”

We’re in the Second Cold War. Those thinking otherwise have probably been living under a rock. Unfortunately, that rock won’t save anyone and we know it by the change in rhetoric. Namely, in previous decades, nuclear war was a mere hypothesis in the minds of most people, an extremely unlikely prospect that we could casually discuss, theorize on, contemplate as to how it would play out, etc. It truly is meticulous work, involving an enormous amount of moving parts and it could even be argued it’s fun, as evidenced by numerous mass media that use it as their main trope. Whether it’s a post-apocalyptic scenario, a modern war that got out of control or something along those lines, it’s quite prominent in movies, TV shows, video games, etc. Now, imagine fan favorites such as the Mad Max franchise, Fallout or Metro series, certain Call of Duty titles, etc. suddenly becoming a reality. It’s certainly a scary thought.
Well, thanks to the warmongering oligarchies in Washington DC and Brussels, this is exactly the scenario we’re facing. And if you think it’s too far-fetched or even impossible, think again. Leaders and top-ranking officials of the most powerful NATO countries openly support long-range strikes on Russia using Western-sourced missiles, operated by American, British and other NATO personnel. This comes despite President Vladimir Putin’s crystal clear warning that Russia would consider the world’s most vile racketeering cartel a party to the conflict and that it would respond accordingly. Worse yet, even after Moscow used a conventionally armed ICBM/IRBM in response to these NATO attacks, the political West only keeps escalating. The purpose of this text is to understand what’s at stake and that if the warmongers, war criminals, plutocrats and kleptocrats have their way, the world will pay the ultimate price.
Let’s imagine that Russia decides it’s sick and tired of over three decades of NATO’s lies, deceit, crawling invasion and now nearly three years of direct attacks and total war. The Neo-Nazi junta keeps launching these Western-sourced missiles and the Kremlin knows who’s behind it. Do you think Russia would use thermonuclear weapons in Ukraine, a land that has belonged to it for over 1,200 years, against the people it considers ethnic Russians (even though they reject this notion)? Even if we ignore these basic facts, the answer is no, as it would be suicidal to fire a nuclear weapon at an area so close to home. The fallout could easily reach any Russian and/or Belorussian territory. Thus, it can be expected to see Moscow use more “Oreshniks” and similar missiles. However, Russia’s updated strategic doctrine also allows the use of such weapons against targets beyond NATO-occupied Ukraine.

Washington folks!
Here is the Stranger’s election guide! What I like about the Stranger’s election coverage is that they’re a lot more honest about why they select the candidates they do, even in cases I don’t agree with them personally.
A lot of folks rose-tint their candidates (which again is why I don’t like the Vote Blue campaigns, and they could do better to get votes) but the writers here call out the candidates’ flaws openly and admit to when they’re using strategic voting for a particular race.

PROFILE.
Unassuming and reserved, [𝐶𝑂𝑊𝐵𝑂𝑌 𝐺𝑅𝐸𝐸𝑇𝐼𝑁𝐺]’s record of service can, at best, be described as consistent. However, the origins of this operative’s connection to the Foundation are strikingly non-standard. As a child they survived not only direct exposure to an apocalyptic Apollyon-Class SCP that manifested at their hometown [DATA EXPUNGED], but also the contingency plan enacted to avoid a K-Class Scenario. Despite administration of Class B Amnestics to target [𝐶𝑂𝑊𝐵𝑂𝑌 𝐺𝑅𝐸𝐸𝑇𝐼𝑁𝐺]’s memories regarding the real reason that half the population of [DATA EXPUNGED] disappeared overnight, medical reports indicate the operative has persistent dreams involving the incident. So it was quite serendipitous that [𝐶𝑂𝑊𝐵𝑂𝑌 𝐺𝑅𝐸𝐸𝑇𝐼𝑁𝐺] ended up working for the Foundation in adulthood. Whether this result can be chalked up to coincidence or this operative’s connection to researcher [𝑇𝑅𝐸𝐸 𝐻𝑈𝐺𝐺𝐸𝑅] is yet to be seen. In any case, the Ethics Committee is certain that their participation in MTF Chi-00 will lead to a future breakthrough on synthetic amnestics, and will be supervising their growth within the team. — Internal Memo from the Ethics Committee.

JR.  RESEARCHER;  Site-169, Anomalous  Entity  Engagement  Division,  studying  behavioral  interventions  in  improving  anomaly  cooperation.  Former  site  evaluator,  worked  with  Rho-7,  Nu-3,  Delta-4,  and  Lambda-12.

INTERRELATIONS OF NOTE.
𝑂𝐿𝐷 𝑆𝑃𝑂𝑅𝑇. In contrast to you, they seem able to remain calm under any sort of pressure. It’s admirable and comforting. But only kind of, because it’s hard not to compare yourself to them. Insecurities about whether or not you should be here are starting to spill over and taint the work you’re doing. Thankfully, it seems that 𝑂𝐿𝐷 𝑆𝑃𝑂𝑅𝑇 has noticed and has decided to watch over you. Or are they merely just watching?
𝑇𝑅𝐸𝐸 𝐻𝑈𝐺𝐺𝐸𝑅. You’d follow them to hell and back, but… you’re starting to think this latest venture might have been a mistake — for both of you. You’re hoping you’re wrong and it’s just stress over the new position. Plus, you can tell how excited 𝑇𝑅𝐸𝐸 𝐻𝑈𝐺𝐺𝐸𝑅 is by all this. But like with everything else, doubts have started to creep in and you’ve have always wondered if they really understand what the purpose of the Foundation is. Still, you’d never leave their side if you have any say about it.
𝐸𝐿𝐸𝑉𝐴𝑇𝑂𝑅 𝑀𝑈𝑆𝐼𝐶. You find yourself in their office on the regular lately. You’re not even sure why, half the time; maybe you just need somebody to talk to. Somebody who doesn’t know you like the back of their hand…. Y’know, maybe it’s time that you moved out of your comfort zone and made new friends. 𝐸𝐿𝐸𝑉𝐴𝑇𝑂𝑅 𝑀𝑈𝑆𝐼𝐶 seems like a good choice in that regard.

What is the current year the fic is set in? I know it’s been 10,000 years since the last Warden appearance, but I’m assuming it’s some time after that for society to pick itself up enough to start counting years ago, and I’m curious how long that was. Is the year like 8217, or like 5742, or even as recent as 3108??
Also what’s the calendar like? Is it basically similar to Earth with 12 months of about 30 days each or like. Is it different??
And back to the years thing again - do we get to know how long ago/how long after the Warden was it when Grian and Jimmy (and Gem 👀👀) parted for the last time? I’m assuming it’s somewhere between 3000-7000 years ago/years after the Warden but I’m curious to hear if we get a more specific time frame.
Thanks so much!!
I need you to know I have a whole ramble on this in my drafts where I'm trying to figure everything out. I shot myself in the foot by making everything super vague hgfhjjk SO BEAR WITH ME AS I RAMBLE ABOUT THIS
So Mumbo was born in 3998 and it's been ALMOST five hundred years since he was born, but not quite. I did a lot of math that is incomprehensible now and both Belle and I landed at the current year being roughly 4487 at the start of Midnight in which Tubbo is still 17; he turns 18 during Midnight Lies, still in 4487 a few months after Grian meets Mumbo, and 20 during Midnight Alley, which means a little more than 2 years has passed, so the current year is placed in ~4489. (this also means at least one year has passed between Midnight Lies and Midnight Visit, since Tubbo was 19 in Visit lol). This means they started counting years again nearly 5,000 years after the Warden happened.
So, remember; Boatem was founded 2,000 years ago (roughly 2400's), and the Hermetian kingdom was founded four hundred years later, around the 2800's. Yet Scar describes Boatem as being one of the oldest settlements on the continent, with the people from Boatem having come from across the sea. Yet they've been counting years for nearly 5,000 years, and we know the Ancients were settled on this continent 10,000+ years ago, and there were people who survived the Wardens...
So what happened to the survivors' settlements? Why is it that in 10,000 years, one of the oldest settlements on the entire continent is only two thousand years old? Well...
Strongholds are above Ancient Cities. Desert temples, jungle temples, ocean monuments, the ruins Drowned are often found around... well, where did they come from? They're all younger than the Ancient Cities, yet older than current society. These were all once marks of civilizations that no longer exist
Something happened in those ten thousand years that reset society again :) And whatever that was is what people are counting from. It wasn't as big as the Warden, ofc, but it was bad enough that few cities or villages or settlements from before it survived, and those that did were often abandoned for the even older, bigger, stronger cities that would prove to withstand time.
ANYWAY I GOT SIDETRACKED BY SOMETHING THAT ISN'T EVEN IMPORTANT TO THE PLOT um-
So I know while they age the same way we do in line with their years (for example an 80 year old Hermetian looks like an 80 year old person from Earth) their years are longer than ours, and their seasons are fucked because their world doesn't work like ours (for example, their moon moves just like the sun, always opposite of it. Makes you wonder where the moonlight comes from *coughGodsarerealcough*) so they can't even judge the years by the seasons. The only thing that changes, besides the phases of the moon, are the stars, so they have to judge their years on the stars (is Midnight heavy in star imagery? Yes, yes it is). Where is this constellation now? and that sort of thing.
NOW HERE'S THE REAL PROBLEM. I basically already established that their days run on a 24 hour clock. So there's 24 hours in a day. How many days are in a week? How many weeks in a month? How many months in a year?
... These are things that I never established, even to myself. I know I want their years to be longer than ours, but not significantly. I just need to figure out where the extra time comes from, and how it's broken down into smaller units. Like we know Scar's rounds took him 2 weeks when he was still delivering blood, and he would deliver to Mumbo once every three months. I already established once every three months is roughly 4 times a year, so the extra time can't have more than ~14 months in it or much less than 12, but we don't know how months are broken into days and weeks and stuff so. I need to. Figure that out. I'm leaning towards a 13 month system just because I think it's funny to use 13 but I could just stick with twelve with each month being longer, base ten is a very common... well, base, so maybe a system of 10 days per week, which if we kept at 4 weeks in a month would be ~40 days and if we add a week ~50 which at 12 months a year would be 480-600 days in a year bUT-
As for how long after the Warden it was when Jimmy and Grian and Gem left the Alley, well 👀 That will actually be revealed in the next chapter.

I had Bosnian friends when I was a kid. They came to the US having escaped what was the Bosnian genocide in the 90s.
"In July 1995, forces of the Army of the Republika Srpska, the VRS, invaded the town of Srebrenica, in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. In a few horrific days, more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim boys and men were taken to places of detention, abused, tortured and then executed. As their bodies fell into mass graves, the machinery of denial of those crimes was set into motion." [1]
A total of 25000-35000 Bosniak civilians were murdered between 1992-1995. [2]
You probably never heard of it.
"They stripped all the male Muslim prisoners, military and civilian, elderly and young, of their personal belongings and identification, and deliberately and methodically killed them solely on the basis of their identity. The Bosnian Serb forces were aware, when they embarked on this genocidal venture, that the harm they caused would continue to plague the Bosnian Muslims." [3]
And you probably didn't hear about Israel's involvement in a European genocide against Muslims either.
And especially not how the Israeli supreme court, "ruled that exposing Israeli involvement in genocide would damage the country’s foreign relations to such an extent that it would outweigh the public interest in knowing that information, and the possible prosecution of those involved." as covered by the Israeli magazine +972:

Riding on the wave of conservatism that has overtaken the US with the Republican’s victory in the November elections, US President-elect Donald Trump is putting pressure on Justin Trudeau as his popularity continues to plummet. With Canada just days away from entering an election year, Trump described the liberal Canadian Prime Minister as a “governor” again after outlining the so-called benefits of Canada’s inclusion into the United States.
“Merry Christmas to all,” Trump began his address on the Truth Social network. “Also, to Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada, whose Citizens’ Taxes are far too high, but if Canada was to become our 51st State, their Taxes would be cut by more than 60%, their businesses would immediately double in size, and they would be militarily protected like no other Country anywhere in the World.”
Trump is ramping up pressure on Trudeau, an ideological adversary who lambasted the billionaire many times during his first term, now that the Canadian leader’s popularity is declining. Elections in the North American country are scheduled for October 2025, and Trump is evidently attempting to influence the outcome by mocking and berating Trudeau.
Trudeau has begun what will almost certainly be his last election campaign, seeking a fourth consecutive term in office. This is despite falling support for his government and the Liberal Party, which, according to polls, are disapproved of by three-quarters of voters. Interest rates, the fall in inflation, and the respite of the vertiginous rise in house prices have done little to stop the fall in support for Trudeau.

Hurston’s article in The Negro Digest ‘What White Publishers Won’t Print’1 (April 1950) bemoans the dearth of novels that depict Negro and other ethnic minority characters with emotions and rest content with the stereotypes of the ‘exceptional’ Negro and the ‘quaint’. Taken on its own account, it is a vindication of minority rights and argues for a true reflection of what American society was like in the 1950s. It is an appeal to fight racist ideology precisely by undoing racist and sex- ist stereotypes, such as the idea that the black American cannot love, but can only exhibit ‘the passion of sex’ (Hurston 1995, p. 953).2 In this text, Hurston does not limit herself to the depiction of black life. She is indignant about the way in which Jews, as well as other ethnic minorities, such as the Chinese, are maligned by authors supported by contemporary publishers. These texts, she argues, serve to glorify the image that the white Anglo-Saxon intellectual elite have of themselves, and promote. She advocates novels in the vein of the naturalist school embodied at the time by Nobel Prize novelist Sinclair Lewis and his best-selling Main Street (1920).3 When Hurston wrote that essay, her publishing years were over, the productive decade of the 1930s a thing of the past. She was aiming at placing her new work with white publish- ers who were working with the major modernist authors of the day. Her anti-communism was just as fierce as her desire to be true to the variety and the breadth of Negro experience.
