Yuto is the boyfriend to accidently say "I love you" to Ruri before hanging up on a call. He didn't mean to, they've never said those words to eachother yet, but he was really happy and they just slipped out. Yuto realizes what he has done and panics, he doesn't wait for Ruri's response, he just hangs up and places his phone down on his dresser next to his bed. The screen is facing down so he can't see calls or texts.

Yuto is just absolutely panicking and so embarrassed that he curls up in his sheets and pulls them over his head to hide. His heart is pounding and he can't calm down. "why did he say that?" Yuto says to himself, "What if she doesn't feel the same way and he's embarrassed himself?" "What if Ruri thinks its weird?" Ahh, this is terrible, and he meets up with Ruri every morning before school, the next day will be so awkward.

Meanwhile, in the Kurosaki household, Ruri is sitting up on her bed and clutching his phone close to her heart and is blushing so much. Ruri is also smiling and replaying Yuto's sweet words over and over in her head. "Yuto loves her, did she hear that right?" Ruri loved him too, but he hung up so fast she didn't get a chance to respond. Ahh, she was so excited to see Yuto the next morning so she could hug him and return his feelings. "Yuto is so cute, he's probably feeling so shy right now." Ruri giggled to herself and laid down in her bed, she was so excited for morning to come.

~ Yuto WAS NOT happy the next morning, because he explained his problem to Yuya for advice and the worst two people overheard their conversation and had to butt in. Yugo and Yuri are absolutely no help, they teased and gave Yuto horrible advice and he wanted to punch them both. But thank goodness for Yuya being so kind and offering him a smile and words of comfort. ~

ARC V MONTH DAY 18 - D/D/D - Different Dimension Day

A kind-of manga-inspired AU (but not rlly? Idrk) Just a lil over 800 words.

A/N: HEADS UP i haven't read all of the manga (literally like only some chapters in, and I forgot reading abt it for a long time. Yeah I should go finish reading that soon… (from what I've heard, excluding that one scene, its good anyway. And it did pique my interest for a bit).

And bc of that, this doesn't take place in any part of the Manga (& only contains some elements from it if ud even count em) so its literally an AU. Also, Yuya & Yuzu aren't here. Let's say they're just sleeping somewhere in their head for this one.

This is kinda inspired by this post & one of @/tetsuya04's (not sure if I should tag u :,)) recent b-girls in the manga art!

Relationships: Light Yuto/Ruri, everything else is platonic (I'm getting bored of writing that lol...)

‘Over there, Ruri,’ a voice whispered into her mind. ‘That's him, right? Or at least the brother of the guy—the one we knew traveled from the past to this timeline, like us.’

‘Yes, Rin. That's him alright,’ Ruri thought back, peering at a certain boy from the corner of the small bar she was in.

‘Oh good, we finally got him,’ another voice whispered within her mind. ‘One of those Sakakis… Quick, we should get that USB from him while he's just sitting there.’

Ruri sighed. Serena, impatient as usual. ‘Yes, yes. I'm going.’

She stepped out of the shadows unnoticed.

‘But Yuri,’ Yuto thought as he drank some chocolate milk. ‘We're doing this for Yuya, remember…? It's for his sake.’

Things have been a bit complicated recently for Yuto and his brothers… And there was the possibility of Yuya knowing the truth and getting caught by Reiji…

Somebody accidentally fell onto him, making him spit some of the chocolate out.

He looked at the floor to see who it was, but he couldn't make out who they were as they sported a midnight blue cloak.

“Ahh, sorry…” The person apologized, kneeling to try and regain themself. By the tone of voice though, he made out that the person was female. “My mind has not been functioning correctly recently… and maybe I had a little too much drinks.”

Yuto smiled at them. “That's alright, ma'am. Do you need help?”

“Oh no, I'm alright. Thank you, though.”

When the person got up, Yuto saw some purple strands of hair spill from the hood of their cloak.

And when the person looked down on him, he was met with the most gorgeous pink eyes he's seen.

Something about them rang a bell in Yuto's heart and mind, almost enough to make him fully remember a memory…

A certain, small memory from a long time ago, one that seemed to be felt with joy and laughter.

It's been a long time since he's recalled something like that that didn't include his brothers.

‘Yuto-nii?’ Yugo called. ‘Why're you frozen? Are you okay?'

‘I'm fine, Yugo.’ “Well then ma'am, suit yourself. Be careful next time.”

“Will do.”

Another chord was struck.

That voice… He hadn't noticed it before, but it was… Familiar.

‘Hey guys… Does that person look familiar to you? And her voice, too?'

‘Well, it certainly made me feel something…’ Yugo mused, his metaphysical self seen only by Yuto and the rest of the brothers observing the woman with wild interest.

‘Yes, I agree with Yugo here. She sure does ring a bell, at least for me, too,’ Yuri agreed. That person sure caught their interest, and in an unusual manner, too.

Yuto decided to try and see who it was. He got up. “Excuse me, ma'am, but can you—’

‘Do you mind me asking about your name?’ Yuri interrupted. ‘Sheesh, know how to be polite, brother.’

“—do you mind me asking about your name?” Yuto quickly corrected, as even if it wasn't necessary, Yuri would continue to insist anyway.

“I do, actually,” she responded, although rather gloomily. “Why'd you want to know my name?”

With the other person, voices raced in her head.

‘Ruri!’

‘Oh come on, there you go again, falling for his charms.’

‘Says the one who keeps teasing her for crushing on him in the first place.’

‘Oh shut up, Rin. And that was years ago.’

‘Girls! Stop it,’ Ruri interfered. ‘I'll try my best… Gee…’

“Just out of curiosity,” Yuto shrugged.

Ruri looked down. “My name…” She paused.

‘Ohhh no…’ Rin said, clearly unamused. ‘Don't—’

“Ruri. Ruri Kurosaki.”

‘Ah, shit. Get ready for the chase.’

That was all it took for Yuto.

Suddenly, it was like a locked chest had suddenly been opened in his mind, causing a plethora of memories to rush their way into his—and his brothers’—brain.

‘What is all this!?’ Yugo exclaimed.

‘Memories, Yugo…’ Yuri clarified, also amazed at the sudden remembering. ‘Memories hidden and abandoned, left to decay and be forgotten because of the mission we set for ourselves to get Yuya out of this mess.’

“Ruri…” Yuto muttered.

If he recalled correctly, he was the sister of a dear old best friend of his, someone named Shun Kurosaki.

And also… His long lost crush. Her… Occasionally, he does think of her and her family… But to see her in person…

“Well, I'm off now,” Ruri nodded, pulling the hood of her cloak to her face, “...Yuto.” She walked to the other side of the bar, where another door was.

She knew his name!

‘Wait, if they're here too...Yuto, the USB, is it still there?’ Yugo asked, floating around him in search of it.

Yuto himself checked his pockets, but the USB wasn't anywhere in them. “Oh, shit…!”

He then looked at Ruri. “Wait, Ruri, how-how'd you get here!? And the USB—”

But before she could answer, she had already left the room.

Ending A/N: uhhh i wanted to post this on manga day but decided eh and posted it now.

Now this is just and idea, but I'm thinking of idk maybe writing one one day (don't hope on this too much ill prolly give up on the thing) myself? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ def with more emotion, influence of backstory, & other plot-related things when I may plan the thing.

But if someone else wud/cud do it, I might (emphasis on might) give it a read ;))

Day 5: Action Magic – Overpass @arcvmonth

I kind of like the idea of swapping some of the Resistance fighters with some of the Academia soldiers. Yuto being with Academia is an interesting premise. Despite not being childhood friends with Ruri, I think that Zarc's influence didn't really affect Yuto as much as it did with Yuri largely because Heartland was always presented as this idealistic and happy place to live prior to the invasion. Putting Yuto in Academia and separating him from Ruri would probably make him much more aggressive, especially due to his relationship with Shun. Honestly, one of the reasons I started to think of this premise is because of how angry and aggressive Shun already is during most of the series. That is understandable after struggling to survive against Academia for so long, but I think that if he was with Academia instead, it would be more intense and he'd probably start to enjoy hunting against Xyz users just like most Academia students tend to do. It would also create a different kind dynamic between Yuto and Shun. Academia isn't really the place for people to develop friendships in the first place, so they might have developed more of a rivalry with each other. It's possible that Yuto would be too isolated and focused on his orders from the Professor like what happened with Yuri to develop any kind of connections, but I kind of like the idea of Yuto becoming more aggressive through a combination of being raised in Academia and his relationship with Shun.

With Ruri, I think being isolated and not having connections with characters like Yuto, Shun and Sayaka would be the biggest changes. That was a big reason why she came off as pretty happy and gentle in the flashbacks prior to the Dimensional War. I don't see her becoming as full of pride as Serena, but she would be more aggressive and would still want to join the front lines of the Academia army.

As for Yuri, I think he would be more laid back growing up in Heartland, but he would still be pretty smug since that's practically built into his DNA. I could see him being more sarcastic among friends prior and during the Heartland invasion. Being able to connect with Serena would be huge for both of them. They were both isolated from each other in the series and that clearly affected them. Serena would still have a bit of her aggressive attitude, but not have the need to prove herself. She'd be able to call Yuri out whenever his smug attitude would go too far or could pick up when something was actually bothering him. They're already a great example of a “What if” kind of pairing, so putting them in a setting where they have a bond prior to the events of the series would be perfect. They would still struggle against Academia forces, but I think fighting back would just intensify Serena's aggressive personality and Yuri's smugness while toying with his opponents more so than anything else. Yuri wanting to get Serena back would be an interesting contrast to how he didn't really pay much attention to her in canon.

ARC V MONTH DAY 18-  D/D/D - Different Dimension Day

Thorough these days I’ve been posting lots of AU related content,and today I’ll go over them! :3 So let’s get started! I don’t have any Big artwork, but doodles will accompany <3

Facility AU

A horror based AU. In which various charactes live in a facility- a place that works like a n orphanage, mostly, but with the quirk that only older children are adopted out.

The story starts a month or so after the facility has burned down. Characters have mostly found places to live- Yuya in particular has been adopted by the Sakakis. Now, former friends are trying to connect back together.

After recieving a strange disk from Akaba Reiji, the son of the facility’s owner. The disk contains a game- and that game appears to present a reconstruction of the facility- or, a memory of it.

As he plays, many odd things happen and he finds himself trying to piece his flakey memory so as to understand the things that happened there, the wounds his friends carry- and to stop that nameless girl from coming back.

Projmoon AU

A crossover into the universe of Project Moon games, happening concurrently to the events of Limbus Company.

This AU pertains to the bracelet girls, yu boys and Sora, mainly, and they have had different upbringings in the City, even if they do know each other online.

Yuzu, a girl living on district 11 with her dad, Syuzo. As far as she knows, they used to live on district 1 and, naturally, must have had their memories erased when moving out. Her dad’s hypothesis is that her mom must have lived with them there, and after some kind of fall out, the two of them had to go, without money to afford staying there.

In short, Syuzo is schrodinger’s divorced dad. He takes it in stride, though.

Rin and Yugo are backstreets inhabitants of district 10. Yugo has a great fascination with machinery, especially bikes and weapons. With Rin’s sharp wit and eye for pieces, the two of them make weapons from discarded things and sell them under the name “Clear Wing Atelier”. The weapons are plenty serviceable.

While Yugo is friendly to a fault, Rin has great contempt for the City...

Yuya, or Chaos Sway Carnival is a distortion residing in district 10. It would love to see people happy and smiling, which makes it a very reasonable distortion to talk to- But the more the audience cheer for violence, the closer they unwittingly come to a massacre by its hands.

He was friends with the others before distorting and thanks to only talking online with people, his friends have not yet learned what happened to him...

Yuto, Ruri and Shun were residents of nest L before the fall of Lobotomy Corporation. As feathers who had been living a relatively comfortable life, the sudden chaos and warring, followed by the happenings surrounding the Library turned their lives upside down.

In order to maintain and protect his friend and sister, Shun joined a syndicate- followed closely by Yuto, despite his protests.

Ruri, however, had her whole view of life changed. She wants to understand the City now, rather than just going with its flow. Combined with the fact that Yuto and Shun are staunchly against her joining them, she’s decided to leave and investigate the former L corp branches on her own terms...

Yuri, Serena and Sora have a thing in common: They are R corp products.

Part of a small run of soldiers meant to be sold rather than borrowed, their young ages are a little surprising, but chosen to make sure they have personalities easier to handle than other R corp members, which is important for selling.

Yuri has been sold to a private individual as a body guard. He’s lonely and craves affection, but settles for a “good job” and never questions his duties. In short, he’s a destructive, but well behaved weapon.

Sold to a member of the Zwei association, Serena is meant to protect targets in high risk missions. She’s not used very often and is extremely eager to prove her worth. The story starts when she runs away. dead set on acquiring one of those Golden Boughs as a way to show she can be useful.

Sora had a rough bit of a start- first sold to an association, then ending up with the Ring and finally, being sold to the Cardinal Art Atelier, a group of severely messed up artists often comissioned by the Ring. Sora is basically a living artwork. He hates artsy types for it.

Magikids AU

Imagine ARC V. Now add magical girls to the soup.

In short, monsters are a recurring problem across dimensions. They are tough to beat, and some even have dueling forms!

There is one particular kind of monster, however, that is called a Pact Beast. These are creatures that feed on emotion and the “monster coin” dropped by monsters when they are killed.

To help with feeding themselves, Pact Beasts make pacts with (usually) children and teens, granting them a wish and powers based on that wish, witht he caveat that they must now work under the Pact Beast to help feed it.

Pictured above is Sora’s current magikid tf form and Partition Doll, Sora’s beast and one of the seven that serviced Academia.

GOD AU

What started as a loose mangaxanime crossover wound up as a whole other thing, influenced by the SCP foundation. You can read this here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/36509278/chapters/91042687, though the ending is due to a rewrite.

When Yuya was young, something bad happened.

Everyone spreading word about the God, the god of random numbers, the god inside outside, the god that everything changes.

And change everyone did.

People stuck halfway on the ground. People screaming their hearts out. Pieces twisting or combining. Explosion, implosion, eversion. The sky began shimmering. An infection of god, spread by “knowing about god”.

Miraculously, LDS managed to isolate the afflicted region in a solid vision dome, declaring it to be a “restricted zone”.

And that’s where Yuya has been living, dealing with his own form of infection. To make it simple... the world abhors information about Yuya and simply erases it.

It’s a sad life. With his dad having been missing since a couple days before the incident and his mom unable to recall him through the night, needing to be reintroduced time and time again, Yuya leads a rough life, doing his besht.

But, things go off the rails one day. One day, when the card holding the God that infected this world is stolen...

How long had it been since she had been taken? Ruri couldn't tell. The passage of time in the Fusion Dimension seemed forever stagnant. Perhaps that was due to the fact that she has been trapped in this tower overlooking the sea ever since her arrival, not once being allowed to leave. Instead, she's had a few reoccurring visitors come in to provide her anything she should require. Anything but her freedom that is.

The most frequent of her visitors was the soldier who had been assigned to guard her tower. He was known as Yuri, a terrifying duelist who shared the face of her dear friend and ally Yuto who was the one who kidnapped her to begin with. Just seeing him sent a mix of fear and anger down her spine, despite how polite he was with her.

During his visits he would often request a duel, something about wanting to alleviate his boredom. In exchange, he'd offer her a prize of her choosing if the XYZian managed to defeat him, a feat that was close to impossible considering their difference in skill level. He was a trained soldier. She was a duelist who dueled for the fun of it or out of self-defense. Her lack of strength was what allowed her to be taken originally to begin with, as he often reminds her of.

His taunts only made her try harder however, and with every game, she got closer and closer to victory. She studied his patterns and strategies in the same way Shun would always do when preparing for games, planning counteracts and defenses to shut down any advantage. Ruri never thought she'd get into a mindset like his, one that went against her own dueling philosophy, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

And her hard work over this period has paid off, with Yuri's life points all but dropping to zero in a single beautiful turn of power from her Lyriluscs. Defeating her opponent in one turn, otherwise known as a OTK, was not something she enjoyed doing. But considering his raw power, beating him as quickly as possible before he can bring out his ace monsters was the only path to victory open to her that she had to take.

"Yuri." Ruri says with a tired breath, staring at him with fuchsia eyes that burned with a bright determination. "You said if I won I could ask for anything in your power, right? Well, what I want is...to see Yuto!"

Her request might sound strange at first, but she is well aware he knows what she is referring to. "I've...I've sensed him when you're around lately. I don't know how or why...but I know you two are connected somehow! That means you must know where he is! So, please bring him here! Right this instant!"

Bonds of the Soul, Chapter 22: Medicine

Sora came for a visit after school at Yoko’s request. He was joined by Shun and the Bracelet Girls, who had figured out how to defuse about a week after the boys did.

“So, I hear they’re sick,” Shun said when Yoko invited the visitors in. “Have you had to tie Yuto to the bed yet? That’s the only way I’ve found to make him stay in bed when he’s sick.”

“I think he’s actually willingly staying in bed right now to make sure Yugo doesn’t have nightmares from his illness,” Yoko said. Shun blinked in surprise, but before he could respond Rin said, “Poor Yugo… his fever dreams get so bad that he wakes everyone up in the middle of the night from his screaming.”

“Well, I’m hoping that some medicine will help, but apparently none of the boys are willing to take it,” Yoko sighed “And Yuri told me to ask Sora how to get them to take it.”

Sora looked shocked. “Wait… does this mean he knows?! I thought I was being sneaky getting him to take his medicine!”

“How do you manage to get him to take medicine?” Ruri asked. “Seriously, Yuto will fight tooth and nail to avoid medicine, and we literally have to pin him down and force his mouth open to pour it in and then cover his mouth to stop him from spitting it out! It takes five people to get him to take it!”

Sora shook his head in disbelief. “I… I just mix it with orange juice and have Yuri drink it,” he said. “He’s never given any indication that he notices the medicine in it, so I thought I was tricking him…”

Suddenly the call pager beeped, signaling that one of the boys was calling Yoko. The mother hurried upstairs to check on them.

“Mooooooom!” Yuri whined when Yoko opened the bedroom door. “I’b dirs’yyyyyy!”

“I’ll get you some orange juice,” Yoko reassured him. She went back downstairs to make some fresh-squeezed orange juice.

“And it begins…” Sora muttered.

“What begins?” Yuzu asked. Sora shook his head. “Yuri’s neediness. Whenever he’s sick, he needs a caretaker to take care of him like a princess, and he calls them every five minutes or so with a new request. He’s hot, cold, thirsty, his pillow is too lumpy, his pillow is too soft, his pillow fell on the floor, he needs more pillows, his pajamas are sweaty, his head hurts… But it’s really hard to get annoyed with him, cuz you can see how miserable he is and you actually feel kinda bad for him.”

Serena nodded in agreement. “I’ve had to take care of him once. I couldn’t even get annoyed with his neediness cuz he was crying from his fever and headache half the time. But he still wouldn’t take his medicine.”

“Yeah, I was assigned to be his regular caretaker when he was sick after my first time because of how easily I was able to get him to take it,” Sora said.

Yoko finished squeezing the orange juice and poured four cups of it. Then she added a dose of medicine to each cup and mixed it into the juice, before carrying the cups up to the boys’ bedroom on a tray. Sora, Shun, and the girls followed her, stopping in the doorway and peering inside so they could watch without getting close enough to catch the boys’ cold.

“Here’s some juice,” Yoko said, handing out the cups. Yuri, Yuto, and Yugo were very thirsty, and immediately drank their juice. Yuya, meanwhile, was fast asleep. As soon as Yuri finished his cup, he began trying to wake Yuya up, shaking him gently. “Yuya. Yuya, wake up and have sobe juice. Wake up, Yuya!”

Yuya was next to impossible to wake up when he was sick, as Yoko knew very well from fourteen years of taking care of him. But that didn’t stop Yuri from trying. After shaking the tomato a bit more aggressively, the cabbage-head pulled Yuya’s pillow out from under his head and began smacking him with it. “Wake UP!”

“Le’ hib sleep,” Yuto scolded Yuri. Yuri scowled. “No. He needs his juice.”

He continued smacking Yuya with the pillow until the tomato-haired boy whined. “S’ooooop! Yuriiiiiii!”

“Drink your juice,” Yuri insisted, still pillow-smacking him. Yuya whined some more. “Don’ wan’ juice!”

“Yes you do,” Yuri said stubbornly. Yuya groaned. “If I drink da juice, will you S’OP SBACKING BE?”

“Yes,” Yuri said immediately, ceasing his pillow-smacking at once. “Drink your juice. Now.”

Yuya groaned and reluctantly sat up to drink his orange juice. Yuri watched him intently, making sure Yuya drank every drop of the juice. He gave Yuya the pillow back when the tomato was finished with his juice.

“Why you wan’ us to drink da juice so buch?” Yugo asked, before sneezing. Yuri just responded with a simple, “Ask Sora.”

“Oh shoot…” Sora whispered. “He does know…”

“Yeah, I know,” Yuri replied smugly. “You’re no’ as sneaky as you dink.”

BIRD TIME

Why I like this character/why I don’t

It’s kinda strange thinking back on why I love Ruri so much, one spring night, like 2 years ago, I was thinking how unfortunate we only know a little bit about Lulu and Rin, I then thought, hey why not expand on the basics we know about them? It was then I started on making some headcanons for em. My brain then started to get really attached to Ruri, by thinking of her more I started to appreciate and care about her more. Thinking of how she probably was, thinking how her bonds were like, before I knew it I went from being neutral on the gal to being one of her biggest fans, hell I even build her deck irl, and when she came to duel links, I almost immediately started studying on how her deck works, and what combos I can pull off.

Deadass she’s also the main reason I love birds so much now, birds are one of my favorite animals and I get excited at the mention of them.

In terms of stuff outside of that, I LOVE her design, both pre and during war fits go so hard. I also love the bits we got to see of the real her. She’s very kind, loves dueling for fun but still a tiny bit competitive, outgoing, has a special interest in birds, and just wants everyone to be happy! :)

What I like about their appearance?

she’s pretty tall for her age! She’s taller than most girls her age, and she’s the tallest bracelet girl and overall counterpart!

She’s a very affectionate person, she loves hugging her friends, resting her head on their head, picking them up (she will especially do this to anyone shorter than her) (despite being shorter than him, she’s also does this to Shay) She just wants to show her affection to people she loves :)

I could never again stomach the idea of seeing Heartland rebuilt- I would avoid it like the plague. I don't think I could explain it clearly to Shun or Yuto...

This is going to be a bit long so I'll put my answers under the cut here:

1: the character everyone gets wrong:

It's a bit hard to narrow it down to just one character when I think there are a lot of interpretations of characters or developments in Arc V from a lot of fans that I really disagree with. That being said, Yuzu probably gets the worst of it out of the cast. I've seen a lot of people say that she was given the woman in refrigerator treatment or that she exists just to be motivation fuel for Yuya. While I do wish that she got a chance to duel more as much as the next person, I really think people ignore or undermine Yuzu's connections to other characters, most of which still help to advance the plot even as late as the Zarc battle. Without her bound with Sora, Shun would have been carded, Serena probably would have been captured during the Battle Royal and I don't know if Sora would have been able to abandon Academia without their friendship. Yuzu still saved the universe twice, even if she was unaware of it the first time, and I don't think she gets enough credit for that because she wasn't dueling. Yuzu's relationship with Yuya is important. It's arguably the most important relationship in the series, but there's more to Yuzu than just her connection to Yuya and it shown multiple time through different characters and events throughout the series. It never really felt like Yuzu existed just for Yuya's development. They inspired each other throughout the series. Even when Yuya was trying to save Yuzu during the last stretch of the series, she already helped to save him from Zarc, so this felt more like returning the favor as opposed to just being a damsel in distress.

I'll also throw in a mention about Shun since I really don't agree with the notion that he'd be sad and lonely post-finale. I think at least part of this comes down to some fans misinterpreting his duel with Yuya. The episode started with the theory that all of the counterparts were gone forever, which made Shun lash out at everyone there. But through their duel, Shun could feel Yuto's presence in Yuya, making him realize that Leo was wrong. If Yuto still exists in Yuya, which he flat out said was the case, then that meant Ruri still exists too. He didn't accept that they were gone forever like he said he would at the beginning of the duel. He finally had hope that he would see them again, something that Shun never really had despite fighting against Academia all this time. It may not be ideal, but he knows that his best friend and sister are still alive and exist within Yuya and Yuzu. Even putting that aside for a moment, Shun still has other friends like Crow, Kaito, Allen Sayaka and Yuya, so the idea that he'd just be sad and alone forever without Yuto and Ruri physically being next to him always felt too angsty to make sense to me.

7: what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?:

While I don't think it got to the point where I actually hated him, Sawatari definitely came the closest. I was so annoyed about fans praising him over Yuya for his own Entertainment Dueling style. While I could understand finding him entertaining, the way Sawatari wanted the spotlight on himself made his dueling looked too self-centered for my tastes. There was an element of selfishness with Yuya's dueling too given that was a major development in season two, but it was arguably more subconscious as opposed to something more deliberate compared to Sawatari wanting to get all of the attention for himself initially. There were a lot of comments after his duel with Yugo that especially were annoying to me, calling him a better Entertainment Duelist than Yuya. I think it became less of an issue as the series progressed, but it also probably helped that I eventually avoided most of the online community after the Heartland arc too, a decision I wish I had made much sooner during the series' run.

While I didn't hate him either, the fanbase overhyping Yuto also turned me off on him for awhile. I think fans put him on such a pedestal because he was this cool and mysterious character initially. I remember his early appearances in season one would get a lot of people excited and once we learned about the dimensional war through Yuto, he was effectively gone for a good chuck of the series. I think my issue was that it felt like fans were projecting what personality or story they wanted from Yuto instead of seeing what story the show was actually trying to tell. It was not uncommon to see people wishing that Yuto was the main character instead, going as far as to call Yuya the Standard Yuto. While I still liked Yuto, he felt like the most overhyped counterpart during the series' run. Fortunately, after rewatching Arc V without constantly seeing both characters on pedestals, I find it easier to appreciate both characters, especially Yuto. I'm not a huge Sawatari fan, but it's easier to enjoy him as well.

25: common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing:

Unsurprisingly, I'm sick of hearing people complain about Arc V's ending. To be clear, I'm not saying that people have to like it. People are entitled to dislike the ending as much as I am entitled to like it. I really love the ending in fact. It's one of the few endings I can recall where I appreciate it more over time and I was pretty happy with it when it first aired too. I just get tired of seeing it in the tags after all these years. It certainly doesn't help that the backlash to the ending itself was largely excessive in my opinion. A lot of people were afraid to say that they like Arc V after the finale aired. Plenty of people who make fan fics or fan art, including some of my friends here, would get comments complaining about the ending in their work. So many people were told to not watch it or to stop watching it because of how other people felt about it. There was already a lot of annoying backlash after season one, but the backlash towards the ending made it even worse, especially when it can feel difficult to make a post about the series without people using it as an excuse to hate on the series or complain about the ending even more.

It doesn't really help that the majority of the complaints basically come down to the counterparts not getting their bodies back, which I find kind of boring at this point. I understand this to a degree. The counterparts were fan favorite characters with most of the pairings being fan favorite too. People wanted them to umerge and live together. I just think fans were so set on what they wanted to happen that they didn't realize that the series never made unmerging into a goal or really indicated that it could be possible without the En Cards. That doesn't mean people have to like it. I certainly can't blame for people assuming that it would still happen. I thought it would happen for most of the series too, but I think fans were too set on what they wanted to happen that they didn't recognize that Arc V was going in a different direction until the finale. I wouldn't have been against the counterparts magically getting their bodies back after Yuya defeated Reiji, but I don't think it would have drastically improved the finale either.

This also now includes comments about how Duel Links is fixing the ending or it is leading to the true ending of Arc V or anything along those lines. I've been enjoying the Arc V World events in Duel Links, but I find it kind of annoying people use these events to complain about the ending more, especially when I highly doubt that people do that for any of the other events for other worlds. I don't think that the ending of the Z-One event in Duel Links will suddenly make fans want to negate his actual death in the series proper. I don't think people will say Bruno's death in 5D's doesn't count anymore now that he exists in Duel Links either. To be clear, I'm not saying people are wrong for wanting to get the kind of closure they wanted from the ending in Duel Links. I just get annoyed at people trying to use a mobile game to negate the actual ending to the anime when that seemingly only applies to Arc V's events. If I wasn't already annoyed of the complaints about the ending after all these years, maybe it wouldn't bother me as much. It's also one reason why the concept of the counterparts magically getting their bodies back doesn't really do much for me. Obviously the counterparts will be playable in Duel Links, but with the framing so far in the Yugo event in mind, it feels too much like fan pandering, even if it hopefully has more to do with building up to future events or Zarc's eventual Duel Links appearance instead of using these events to change Arc V's ending. Besides that, Duel Links is its own continuity with its own lore. Considering any of the worlds canon to their respective series just does not make sense to me since it has to ignore a lot of details. It makes more sense to see Duel Links as approved fan fiction than official continuation of any of the series.

While this doesn't come up as often as the ending, I also still see people using the DSOD movie as a scapegoat for their problems with Arc V. The issue isn't really that the movie couldn't have had an effect on the series' production. It probably did to a degree if what happened with My Hero Academia's third movie was any indication. My issue is that people still think that multiple people were working on both Arc V and DSOD at the same time. From what I could tell, only one person from Arc V's staff was involved in the movie and that was the same person who has been writing duels since the franchise began. None of the writers from Arc V were involved in the movie. DSOD being written by Kazuki Takahashi was a pretty big selling point. It still could have had an impact on the series' production, but they had two different production teams and I assume two different budgets. I saw people during and after Arc V's run put the blame on the writing problems they had with the series on DSOD. Given that the series had the same head writer for the entire run, I don't think that DSOD affected the writing as much as some people think it did. It always read to me as people putting the blame on DSOD for their issues with the series instead of just admitting that they didn't like the direction the series went to instead.

Hi there. Yeah, while I generally like the Xyz trio, I definitely agree that they’re overhyped among the fanbase. Yuto was put on such a pedestal throughout most of the series that I remember more than once people saying that he should have been the protagonist instead of Yuya. Changing really any protagonist would change the entire story, but that feels especially true for Arc V. It wouldn’t have the same weight or meaning if they put Yuto and Ruri in Yuya and Yuzu’s positions. Even though Shun is also pretty overhyped, I don’t think it bothered me as much as it did with Yuto, possibly because I had more negative experiences with Yuto stans by comparison. I’m probably more annoyed with fans missing the point of his duel with Yuya and acting as if he’s sad and alone forever post-finale at this point too. Although, calling Shun Yuya’s rival is a new one on me. Yuya and Reiji don’t have a traditional kind of rivalry, but they’ve dueled more than once. It feels especially weird when their one duel was so close to the end of the series too.

Every time I rewatch Arc V, I’ve often thought to myself “Man, Reiji, I am so sorry. The fanbase was way too hard on you and we do not deserve you.” He’s so refreshing as a rival and a terrific character on his own to boot. I can understand why people would initially misinterpret his personality. His reserve and calm demeanor can easily be taken as being cold and heartless, but it really should have been clear by season two at the latest that he was never going to be a secret villain. He’s a great foil to Yuya, has some really solid character moments during his confrontation with Leo in particular and I like how he and Yuya became friends through mutual trust and respect for each other too. Reiji really deserves a lot more attention and love than he gets.

I’ve heard people say that Yuzu was fridged before, but not Reira. I don’t think that some fans understand what terms like plot device, woman in refrigerators or deus ex machnia mean. Either that or I have a different understanding of those terms and tropes. I almost forgot about the eago cult nonsense. That was weird to say the least, especially when Academia is right there. It’s also weird that Yusho gets treated as the worst father when Leo actively abandoned his family in order to chase after the ghost of his daughter, undid her sacrifice and basically caused the chain reaction that led to Zarc’s revival in the first place. Even after Yusho realized the truth about Yuya not being his biological son, he still did everything he could to protect him, which is more than what Leo would be willing to do for Reiji.

10.- Worst part of fanon

Man, this is tough choice, and I feel like depending on how the fandom behaves my feelings on which is the worst one changes periodically, but I have top 3 fanons that I hate, in no specific order:

The dimensional counterparts are as whole the protagonists of Arc V: I feel like I don't need to elaborate much on this, but I will anyway just because: Yuya is the protagonist, Yuzu is a deuteragonist and REIJI not anyone else is the Tritagonist, anyone who thinks any of the counterparts have some sort of claim over these spota just for being a counterparts earns an automatic eye roll from me, do me a favor and stop giving them credit for things that were done by Yuya or Yuzu.

Shun/Ruri/Yuto/anyone from the xyz dimension/resistance were the best or most badass characters!!: People who have followed me for a while know my stance on this, but yeah, no, not only this isn't true, like in the slightest, Yuto's saving grace was being absorbed by Yuya early on and as such deified by fandom, Ruri was ultimately used for Shun's brother manpain, and Shun who was arguibly the most "developed" had such a sloppy, contradictory and derailed development that people need to reshape him into another person to actually fit the image they have of him, no, I'm will neither elaborate or change my opinion, sorry, but also, not sorry.

Yuya is the worst YGO protagonist EVER!!!: No, this one pisses me off so much for how dumb it is, that I won't even try to rip it to shreds, because that would imply it's an actual argument and not just a hater statement. If you "like" Arc V but hate Yuya, then you didn't understand Arc V at all, period.

12.- The unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

REIJI, REIJI, REIJI, REIJI, REIJI, REIJI....

Seriously people it's so weird that people have had something against him since day 1, took at face value the antoganist mask he wore in order to keep his true intentions under wraps and called it a day when it came to his character, he's like the antithesis of Shun in the fandom, because not only will people straight up make up things to make him fit the distorted negative image they have of him, and more than a couple times I've found people actually crediting his acomplishments on Shun of all characters (like calling him yuya's rival, wtf??) which puzzles me so much, I even forget to be angry about it.

Why should more people like him? Um, because his character is the perfect foil/rival for Yuya? The rational to his emotion, the caution to his impulsiveness, the one with his feet on the ground to his dreams and ideals and a long etcetera, but they're also two boys who suffer from abandoment issues and the weight of expectations placed on them who were forced to grow up too soon and become friends through cooperation and mutual trust rather than some dick measuring contest.

Because he's refreshing take on a cliche character in the franchise, and the traits that would make him so get turned into true traits and flaws; he's a teenage genius alright, but he's still 16 so his ideals can still get in his way, he's callous and calculating and it makes Yuya antagonize him and distrust him, he's very guarded but he's also responsible and intensely protective of the people who work with him.

I could go on, but yeah, people should like him more, he deserves it.

I was gonna rant about one, but after realizing I have too many and this post is already too long I'm just gonna put this list:

The ending is shitty (this includes 99% of the individual complains of it)

The Synchro arc is filller (this one is just a boring take at this point)

Sawatari should have won a duel (say it with me: winning duels does not equal character development)

Yuzu is useless after season 1 (...🙄)

The egao is like a cult (I seriously hope you never encounter a RL cult recruiter, you wouldn't recognize them tbh...)

x character should have been carded (no they shouldn't, shut up)

Ray is a mary sue/deus ex machina (...go sit in the corner and read what those are okay?)

Reira was fridged (Wtf???)

Reiji should have been evil and working with Leo (refer to my previous answer...)

They ruined [inser legacy character here] (you're legacy character is fine, chill)

Yusho is the worst dad evar!!! (Did you miss the other dad training child soldiers??)

Pendulum summon sucks (Again, did you even like Arc V?)

If you genuinely believe any of these, well, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but not only I don't wanna talk to you, if you shove it in my dash or the main tags constantly, you earn a free ticket to my block list.
