i never seen much about squid game on this app but im watching the second season now (NO SPOILERS IM LITERALLY ON SECOND EPISODE PLEASE) (this does not apply for my post rn, this has 1-2 ep spoilers)
but the show has created a simulation in SUCH an immersive way that borders hyperreality lowkey i literally gotta pause the show and just sit there staring for a second
a lot of media texts try to be immersive now, it helps to keep the audience's interest and is overall much more impactful that way, especially when its relatable, not just realistic.
here, the second season is set in 2024, late 2024 at that, this is our timeline. this was "happening" a few weeks ago. it isn't the past, it isn't the future, it's the present. that already is quite immersive and quite chilling tbh, it makes the audience question how fictional it is in the first place, as a joke maybe think ahahaha what if that was happening right now actually that would be crazy. especially that the show already reflects our world almost perfectly by fashion, pop culture, social issues, people's lifestyles, etc, its the same world just with a twist of "what if there was a secret organisation creating a reality show where players get killed for losing for the rich to enjoy !" so there's that part of immersion, chilling, its familiar, it is set in our timeline. simulation, quite hyperreal but we aren't quite there yet.
now, another thing to note, when the show came out, people got obsessed with it, it became mainstream, people dressed up as the soldiers, frontman, the players, literally anything for halloween. this happened in real life and its normal and expected, people dressed up as a show that they liked and was big that year. when you saw those people you would just think about the fact that they saw the show, they aren't real staff that work for a very illegal game competition that is used as a tv reality show for the rich. that is already happening in the world in a diff way but that's a conversation for another day and plus that metaphor and connection has prob been talked over so many times since the release
but. the same thing happens in the show. gihun gets an invite to the club to meet the frontman ON HALLOWEEN. in the show that makes perfect sense, it lets the squid game staff keep their identities hidden under the pretense of being dressed up for halloween. but to us, to the audience (at least me) its SO much more impactful and so much creepier because we know them, we know who they are. and we saw this in OUR OWN LIVES. PEOPLE DRESSED UP AS SQUID GAME AND NOW THERE IS A SCENE WHERE DURING HALLOWEEN, THE SQUID GAME STAFF IS "DRESSED UP" AS SQUID GAME. THEMSELVES.
a squid game show doesn't exist IN the show's world, no one knows how they look like or anything, the civilians in the show see them and just think "oh weird costumes, must be from a show ive never heard of". but to us, it exists, as a show. i literally don't know how to fucking explain this but that's SUCH a weird parallel and it was creepily immersive and felt like a deja vu to see the staff walk through the crowd, just like we saw in real life.
I've never seen a piece of media take a reference from life and implement it like this ????????? or at least don't remember anything similar,, it was a very weird immersion. it isn't a hyperreality per say because we have the original (our world) to link reference, but that has merged the two realities, ours and the show's into one reality SO realistically for a second. In our world, people were wearing those constumes before 2024 and seeing that in 2024 just created a link between the years and even tho in the timeline of the show, people wearing those costumes didn't happen before their 2024, IT HAPPENED FOR US! WE HAVE SEEN IT BEFORE! OUTSIDE THE SHOW AND NOW IT HAPPENED IN THE SHOW. IT LINKED THE TWO DIFFERENT REALITIES AND MADE THE SHOW SHOWS REALITY DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO A HYPERREALITY
maybe i am making this to be much more impactful than it actually is but i wanted to say it GRAH
#im trying to articulate it so i can talk to my media teacher about it. even tho it prob isn't as exciting and creepy of an idea#than it sounds in my head. idk idkidkikdikd#THAT WAS JUST LOWKEY MINDBLOWING YO REALISE OK#squid game#rumaiq rambles

My Squid Game season 2 personal review (incomprehensible sobbing) (for fun)
Warning for spoilers!!!!! :3c
AHAYUAFAHAGAFHAGGAHSGHSBAVAHRAHUAJYAJAYAIAGAUHAGEUEYAUSHWFARSHEIAUHAUAODJFYWUATWTQIAGWUABMDJFYXYSIZHSOXJEPSHISKEBATQUAHAHIAJDUWKXNEHJAA
That. Was so good. OH MY GOD?
I loved it so much but I'm seeing people say it's not that good or it was a letdown BUT I WHOLEHEARTEDLY BELIEVE IT IS PEAK.
It was so entertaining and EXTREMELY NERVEWRACKING that even after over an hour of finishing it, I was STILL shaking and I didn't even have the space to cry or mourn the ones who died. Everything was so shocking and every parallel from season 1 kept flashing throw my brain as I watched it. Don't even get me STARTED with the characters oh my god.
HYUN-JU??? TRANSGENDER REPRESENTATION??? I AM IN LOVE WITH HER PLEASEE ADOPT ME. I literally cried when she started talking about her experience and her dreams! She better not fucking die.
The mother and son duo 😭😭😭😭 i totally understand the mother's side and how pissed she was at yong-sik the whole time cause he got me gritting my teeth and balling my fists too but I love both of them.
I FELL. SO HARD FOR IN-HO OMG. Especially in the tracksuit... omfg HEY I CAN BE YOUR NEW WIFE PLEASE ONE CHANCE 😭🙏🙏 No but seriously the look in his eyes whenever he was thinking violently or murderously was so WOWUWOIWOWB I LOVE IT. He's fucked up and I'm all here for it.
GI-HUN. HAS CHANGED. SO MUCH. All in all I love the contrast between season 1 him and season 2 him. His survivor's guilt really destroyed him as a person and I love watching him lose his shit and also the realisation that hits him when he sees in a broader, much wiser perspective that people will literally do anything for money because unfortunately greed trumps longevity. I love his character this season and like.. the way he doesn't flinch at a gunshot or even a gun pointed to his head. He doesn't shake violently when he's on death's doorstep for the millionth time. It's also the way he tries so hard not to smile or be happy because I'm sure he hasn't been happy in a long time and when he can't fight that urge, it's the most bright smile ever in the whole show. I love to see his torture and I need to see his victory. I wonder if we'll get a glimpse of all the people who died in the games when it's all over? Or will Gi-hun himself die in the end?
ALSO GINHO 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
I DON'T HAVE TOO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THE OTHER CHARACTERS BUT I REALLY LOVE THEM ALL except for... 333..... Idk he pisses me off..... Idc what he does or what he did he just.... I don't like his vibe 😭😭😭 he's okay I guess...
Also 100 looks like Tun Mahathir Mohamed HAHAHAHAHAH
But seriously. I thought they wouldn't have too many good ideas to match up to season 1 but they actually did such a good job with this. I'm excited to see where all the storylines go and how they all end, especially Gi-hun, the Hwang brothers, No-eul and Ga-jeum and Yong-sik. I need season 3 to release at least middle of next year or I'll die omfg.
10/10 will definitely watch again. Episode 5 is my favourite.

H Universe Awards 2024
Potential Lifesaver Award
Baby Reindeer [United Kingdom]
Care is not an invitation for possession. Self-hatred may get in the way of justice.
Most Meaningful Character
Squid Game Season 2's Player 120 Cho Hyun-ju [South Korea]
Discriminated people are more than their discriminated statuses and traits. Femininity does not lessen a person's capacity for toughness or leadership. We often don't fall neatly into one box or another conceived by society. So. Stop. Treating People. As. Little. Categorization. Games.
Hyun-ju cannot be mentioned without mention of the silver-haired mother, player 149 Jang Geum-ja. The ignorant elderly woman frowns upon gender transition yet she tenderly looks after the much taller and well-built Hyun-ju more than many trendy young people around you and I care about marginalized individuals in their midst.
Most Thought-Provoking Series
Hellbound / Hell Season 2 [South Korea]
Human hubris manifests not in defying divine forces, but in knowing that which you do not truly know.
Best Ending
Self-love-themed finale of Eternal Night Star River / Eye-Rolling Official English Title [Mainland China]
You're capable of tapping your full strengths to give important people in your life your all only if you are comfortable in your own skin. The other side of the coin, though, is Murder Mindfully. Ziqi's problem is not that he is a demon in the conventional sense of the term, but that the him beneath it all wrongly identifies as one.
Geekiest Series
Avatar: The Last Airbender [United States]
Diverse cultural elements and martial arts galore.
Best Aesthetics
Blossoms Shanghai / Luxuriant Blossoms [Mainland China and Hong Kong in relation to the cinematography]
youtube
Wong Kar-wai did not compromise for the small screen. The question is whether any scene is overdone. It's also a pity he could not get the color grading perfected in time for the CCTV broadcast. A "director color-graded version" with richer colors in at least various scenes was later released.
Best Music
What Comes After Love [South Korea and Japan in relation to the soundtrack]
What comes after that? Fragrance notes-like music that takes you places, of course.
youtube
Notes
There is plenty of online discussion revolving around acting, directing and writing, so awards in those areas are unnecessary. The acceptability of acting, moreover, is perhaps particularly vulnerable to cultural differences. Also subjective is the weights and combinations of factors that should go into the assignment of any Best Drama award. On a gut level, the drama that worked best for H this year is China's beautifully-shot sci-fi adventure series Tibetan Sea Flower / Adventure Behind The Bronze Door, but why should it be important to anyone reading this? Is it as thematically meaningful as various dramas above? Is its adrenaline-pumping, breathtaking directing and writing close enough to flawless, given its repetition of a certain trick and choosing to tell instead of show when unveiling the secrets to certain mysteries? How important is it for everyone to accept like H does that some choices can be justified by its place in a larger network of stories (the Lost Tomb franchise) apt for Easter egg hunts and jigsaw puzzle games? A more level-headed personal pick in any event would be any drama conferred the honor of Potential Lifesaver Award.
Beware of sampling errors that may contribute to the appraisal of shortlisted dramas. This unspecified shortlist, in turn, is subject to marketing prowess and social media reach.

Squid Game: Best of the Cast’s Shows and Movies to Watch
https://ift.tt/39n8nzK
This Squid Game article contains some spoilers, though not the outcome of the game.
There are so many things to like about Squid Game, Netflix‘s Korean-language series about a group of desperate people competing in a deadly game, but one of the major ones is the stellar cast. Featuring some well-known Korean actors, as well as some relative newcomers to the acting scene, Squid Game‘s ensemble is more than ready to elevate the clever script and sharp direction. If you’re interested in checking out other projects from this cast after finishing Squid Game, here are our recommendations!
Lee Jung-jae (이정재) as Seong Gi-hun
Squid Game character: Leading the cast of characters is Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun, a man who has fallen on tough times after losing his job and his marriage. We are first introduced to Gi-hun in the context of his gambling addiction, as he desperately trues to get out of crippling debt in order to be a better father, son, and friend.
What to watch next: Lee Jung-jae is a 48-year-old actor who began his career as a model before transitioning into TV and later film. Notable projects include Il Mare, the 2000 film on which Hollywood’s The Lake House was based and 2013’s historical drama The Face Reader, in which Lee has second-billing as Grand Prince Suyang.
Jung Ho-yeon (정호연) as Kang Sae-byeok
Squid Game character: Jung Ho-yeon plays Kang Sae-byeok (aka the one who looks like ENHYPEN’s Ni-ki), a North Korean defector who decides to play Squid Game in order to get the money to get her mother out of North Korea and to create a stable life for her younger brother, who is currently living in an orphanage.
What to watch next: Jung Ho-yeon will no doubt be one of the breakout stars of Squid Game. The 27-year-old actress is a successful model, and has previously appeared on Korea’s Next Top Model. Squid Game is her first on-screen role, so we’ll have to wait to see what she does next. In the meantime, you can rewatch Squid Game or check out Season 4 of Korea’s Next Top Model.
Park Hae-soo (박해수) as Cho Sang-woo
Squid Game character: Cho Sang-woo grew up with protagonist Gi-hun, and is the success story of his neighborhood after going to a prestigious university and making it big as a businessman. Unbeknownst to Gi-hun and Sang-woo’s mother, Sang-woo has stolen money from his clients and is wanted by the police. He enters Squid Game in an attempt to make back the money so that he can save his mother’s business and house, both of which he risked to back his illegal activities.

Squid Game: What Could Season 2 Look Like?
By Kayti Burt
What to watch next: Park Hae-soo is a 39-year-old actor who is perhaps previously best known, especially to international audiences, for his starring role in 2017’s Prison Playbook (one of our Best Korean Dramas to Watch on Netflix). In the drama, Park plays a baseball player who unexpectedly lands himself in jail days before his major league baseball debut. The show follows his life within prison, along with the lives of other inmates and guards, including his former best friend, who is now a corrections officer. Prison Playbook is one of the most popular K-dramas ever.
Wi Ha-joon (위하준) as Hwang Jun-ho
Squid Game character: Wi Ha-joon plays Hwang Jun-ho, who is a bit of an outlier character in a series that mostly features characters in the game as protagonists. Unlike Gi-hun or Sang-woo, Jun-ho is a cop who is investigating Squid Game after finding one of the game’s calling cards in his missing brother’s apartment. He does a pretty good job too, infiltrating the operation in diverse ways.
What to watch next: Wi is a 30-year-old actor with a solid filmography. If you’re a horror fan, check out Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, a 2018 found footage horror film that takes place in the former Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital, considered to be one of Korea’s most-haunted places. You could also check out Midnight, a 2021 thriller in which Wi plays a serial killer. If you’re looking for something a bit softer, Wi has a supporting role in 2018 romantic drama Something in the Rain, in which he stars as one protagonist’s younger brother and the other protagonist’s best friend.
Oh Young-soo (오영수) as Oh Il-nam
Squid Game character: Oh Young-soo plays Oh Il-nam, the oldest contestant in Squid Game, and someone Gi-hun feels some responsibility for as the game progresses.
What to watch next: Oh Young-soo is a 76-year-old actor with a filmography that mostly includes monk roles. His previous work has mostly included playing supporting roles, but if you want to see him in something else, check out 2003 feature film A Little Monk, about a generation of three monks living in one temple, or Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring, a 2003 film about the life of a Buddhist monk.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Heo Sung-tae as Jang Deok-su
Squid Game character: Heo Sung-tae plays Jang Deok-su, a gangster who enters Squid Game to settle his gambling debts, and who refuses to trust anyone in the process.
What to watch next: Heo Sung-tae is a 43-year-old actor with an extensive filmography. If you’d like to see him in a very different project, check out Racket Boys, a recent Netflix K-drama in which he appears as the coach of a boys badminton team in Episodes 10-12. If you’d like to see him in another dastardly role, check out 2021’s Beyond Evil, in which he plays a cold-blooded businessman.
Kim Joo-ryung (김주령) as Han Mi-nyeo
Squid Game character: Kim Joo-ryung stars as Han Mi-nyeo, a woman who will say or do whatever she has to in order to find her best chance at winning. Originally introduced claiming to be a new mother, we never actually learn that much about Mi-nyeo’s life outside of the game.
What to watch next: Kim Joo-ryung is a 45-year-old actress with an extensive filmography, though mostly in supporting roles. (Hopefully, her impressive turn in Squid Game will lead to more opportunities for the actress.) If you’d like to see her in a minor role in a successful drama, Kim appears in Episodes 16 and 17 of 2018 historical drama Mr. Sunshine. If you’d like to see Kim in a central role, check out 2012 feature Sleepless Night, in which she plays one half of a married couple working to get through daily life.
Tripathi Anupam as Abdul Ali
Squid Game character: Tripathi Anupam plays Ali, a 33-year-old Pakistani man who joins the game in order to get the money to support his family, including his parents and brother back in Pakistan and his wife and baby son, who traveled with him to Korea.
What to watch next: Tripathi Anupam is a 32-year-old Indian-born actor, who is another standout in Squid Game and a rare actor of non-Korean descent in the Korean TV and film industry. Anupam had a small appearance in Netflix’s Korean sci-fi feature Space Sweepers, in which he appeared as James Sullivan’s secretary. Most of Anupam’s previous roles have been minor, with Squid Game being a breakout role for the actor.
Lee Yoo-mi (이유미) as Ji-yeong
Squid Game character: Lee Yoo-mi plays Ji-yeong, a young woman who we find out entered the game immediately after having been released from prison for the crime of killing her abusive father. She becomes close with Sae-byeok, who recruits her to join her team for tug-of-war.
What to watch next: Lee Yoo-mi is a 27-year-old actress who has appeared in many TV shows and films, mostly in supporting roles. If you’d like to see her in another drama, check out 365: Repeat the Year, a time travel drama that sees 10 people given the chance to travel back a year to “reset” their lives, only to find themselves in danger.
Gong Yoo (공유) as The Salesman
Squid Game character: Gong Yoo appears in a minor role as The Salesman, aka the man who recruits Gi-hun into Squid Game by playing a game of ddakji with him on the subway
What to watch next: Gong Yoo is a very successful actor in Korea who is also known internationally. The 42-year-old actor’s most well-known movie role is Train To Busan, in which he stars as the divorced father and businessman protagonist trying to escape the zombie apocalypse on a high-speed bullet train. His most well-known TV role is in the uber successful Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean TV history. In it, he stars as a 939-year-old immortal goblin and protector of souls. Longtime K-drama stans, however, probably know Gong from his starring role in Coffee Prince, a romance about a woman pretending to be a girl in order to get work and a young food empire mogul, played by Gong.
Lee Byung-hun as The Front Man, aka In-ho
Squid Game character: Lee Byung-hun plays the Front Man, aka the masked man who runs the day-to-day operations of Squid Game. He lives in a fancy apartment within the game’s facility, and maintains contact with the game’s supervisors via a landline.
What to watch next: If you’re looking to see more of Lee Byung-hun’s face than Squid Game offers, then you have a lot of options. The 51-year-old actor and singer has been a part of the Korean entertainment industry for decades, and has been one of the most successful Korean actors in that time, with five films on the 50 highest-grossing domestic films in South Korea list: Joint Security Area; The Good, the Bad, the Weird; Masquerade; Inside Men; and Master.
Lee is the only Squid Game actor to have some substantial Hollywood credits on his filmography as well. American audiences may recognize him from his role as Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe franchise; he has also appeared in Red 2, Terminator Genisys, and The Magnificent Seven. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he was the first South Korean to present an Oscar at the Academy Awards.
Which Squid Game cast member were you the most impressed by? Let us know in the comments below…

Squid Game
Yes. I will be sharing my thoughts on this infamous Netflix series because why not? I did not sacrifice my sleeping hour and potentially missing assignments deadline just for me to not share it with you guys. But seriously, binge-watching a series with academic pressure hits differently. As I am sure this series won’t need an introduction, I’ll just provide the background a little bit. Squid Game is a 9 episode Korean series that went viral on social media literally a few days after the release.
I do understand the hype to be honest, it really does deserve all the hype. The contributing factor of it is the fact that the actress is a super-hot model that made her first debut in acting; Jung HoYeon. A fun fact, she is a best friend of Jennie from the global Kpop girl group BLACKPINK. She’s been the “It Girl” of South Korea since forever anyway and now she is getting the global recognition which is well-deserved by the way!
As much as I try to keep my reviews with no spoilers, sometimes I can’t help myself. I babbled way too much. It's like I write every thought that runs through my mind – yes, I guess my writing skills are that way. That explains the constant topic derailments since I mostly talked about myself instead of the reviews.
Also, can we talk about how at this point it’s technically impossible to not watch any spoiler about this series? I’ve probably learned about the series more on Tiktok and Twitter than by actually watching it. Lucky for me though, I watched the series on the release date so if anything I could be one of those spoilers but I didn’t.
It is a thriller series and I think the scariest part of this series is on how realistic it is. I just know there are people that will willingly go if they had the opportunity to, considering how today’s world is run by capitalism. The first episode shook me because I obviously didn’t read the description of the series before I started watching it because when I tell you the way I gasped when the first killing was executed..
Essentially, the series is about a bunch of debtors or people that are struggling financially are contacted to join a series of games with a huge amount of money on the line for the winner. This series definitely shows you the human nature for survival and what money does to people when they are desperate.
The oxymoron of the series is the fact that they are playing children's games but it has deadly consequences, literally. People are dying from playing childhood games. What a way to ruin South Korean childhood memories. The seemingly innocent simple games are now being tied to violent deaths and that unexpected juxtaposition made me curious to watch the series until the end.
The lead character, Seong Gi-hun is an unemployed gambling addict who is portrayed as a kind and compassionate character to other players he is playing with. But I disagree. Because he could’ve been a good father to his young daughter but he chose to play deadly games, voluntarily?! He already lost custody of his daughter because of his incompetence and he can’t even be there for her daughter? I understood the tragic backstory of him being chased by loan sharks but that does not excuse risking his life to play games, if he died his daughter will be fatherless forever. Not that he was ever there for his daughter but his little daughter still sees him from time to time in the series.
Another character that caught my attention is Ali. Ali is a Pakistani underpaid laborer that is working in construction, and he came to South Korea with his wife and daughter to provide his family a better life. Long story short, he ended up dead playing in one of the games because he was tricked by another player that he trusted and respected. He even called his killer “Hyung” which means Brother. I lost my marbles when he died. If you watched the series, you will get my reference. But what messed me up is the fact that when Ali left his family to play the games, he didn’t inform his wife and daughter. Now that he ended up dead, his family will assume he abandoned them when he is literally the sweetest character ever and that made me so mad, and sad.
It is a well-paced and mesmerizing series in each episode with its emotional sentiments, dramatic and even comedic at a few scenes. The storyline ending is hinting towards Season 2 as there are unanswered plot points shown for the audience to look forward to. This series will keep you invested and on edge throughout all the episodes that you just couldn’t wait to watch all the episodes just to find out the ending is a cliffhanger.
In case you didn’t get it yet this series is not family or children friendly because the scenes are violent and gore. I even flinched at some points watching the series and that’s coming from me, an avid viewer of Final Destination and SAW. If you’re into suspense or thriller shows and you have been looking for a sign to watch Squid Game or not; this is your sign to watch it.

Okay, yall seemed to like my last minecraft opinions post so here's another one: my thoughts on the Caves and Cliffs Update Split ᵃⁿᵈ ᵇᵉᶜᵃᵘˢᵉ ᵗʰⁱˢ ⁱˢ ˢᵘᶜʰ ᵃ ˡᵒⁿᵍ ᵖᵒˢᵗ ⁱᵐ ᵍᵒⁿⁿᵃ ᵖᵘᵗ ᵃ ᵗᵃᵇˡᵉ ᵒᶠ ᶜᵒⁿᵗᵉⁿᵗˢ ⁱⁿ ᵇᵉᶜᵃᵘˢᵉ ʷʰʸ ⁿᵒᵗ
Table of contents:
1. The Split Itself
2. 1.17 Part 1
3. 1.17 Part 2
4. Archeology Postponed Further
5. Real World Problems
6. Speculation
7. Conclusion
(Post under the cut because this one is larger than most of Grian's Chest Monsters on Hermitcraft)
1. The Split Itself
I don't get why or how world generation is so much more difficult than adding/changing anything else to the point where the update itself has to be split in half but I don't know anything about coding (which is going to be incredibly annoying when it comes to.. uhh my personal life) so take this opinion with a grain of salt.
2. 1.17 Part 1
I haven't had a chance to play 1.17 at all yet (because I play on the Switch), but from what I've gathered, it looks like the best update yet by a LONGSHOT. Even without the new caves/mountains/everything else generating in worlds, I am still super excited about the Sculk Sensor new blocks and mobs.
3. 1.17 Part 2
I don't really have much to say regarding part 2, other than survival worlds of mine are about to get a whole lot better, but I do have a project planned for once the world size increases; a full sized (or maybe just more detailed than the ones I've seen) Super Mario Galaxy map, complete with teleports and possibly some way to simulate planet gravity if I can figure that out so :)
4. Archeology Postponed Further
I have 2 things to say about archeology being postponed even longer than the world gen:
1: does this include Bundles?
And 2: Does this 𝗺ean that 1.18 is going to be the Archeology Update? Because I was kinda hoping for an End update, but I'm not really complaining.
Other than that, l wasn't really focused on it, as I just kept on repeating "Warden. Sculk looks cool. Y = -64. C A V E U P D A T E ." in my head the Entire Time and was unable to process most of the other stuff until way later and even now I'm still a bit overwhelmed with information
5. Real World Problems
I completely understand why the devs did something in the way of postponing c&c because, well, COVID. (And the fact that June is in LESS THAN TWO MONTHS at the time of posting) as they just didn't have enough time to deliver something as gigantic as 1.17 is, that isn't infested with bugs and glitches by summer. But why split it in half? I really don't understand why they would do that as opposed to just postponing the whole thing a few months or so? When something is due, but you haven't finished it, what do you do? Postpone it. Not go "ah crap I've got no time uhhhhh here's half of the project other half coming soon".
Yes, I was expecting a postponed release date. Nobody's perfect. But using another analogy here, when you have a YouTube channel that posts daily, but This Particular Video is talking longer than the rest to edit, make a community post saying "Sorry, no video today, this one's taking a long time to edit." not "Today's video is taking a while to edit, so here's half of it lol. other half tomorrow"
6. Speculation
In the Announcement Video about the split, Henrik mentions blocks and mobs being the focus of Part 1. He mentions the Axolotl, Goat and Glow Squid, but there's no mention of the Warden. This could be taken in one of 2 ways. 1: there was no need for Henrik to mention the Warden because it's obvious that, since the Warden is a mob, it would be included in Part 1, or 2: The Warden is difficult enough to code into the game that it has to be included in Part 2.
Honestly, I believe number 1, as the c&c First Look video back in October of last year featured it in gameplay footage, so it's not likely that it will be pushed back to Part 2, unless the devs want to throw all of their personal growth at a cactus and push it back for suspense. That's honestly all the speculation I could get from the video, other than the obvious "what features are coming in what part" and "what are the release dates" but, on the topic of release dates, I have a theory for each of them!
Part 1: Sometime in June, if I had to take a wild guess, it would be the 14th.
Evidence: According to a Google search, "Effective in June 2021, Minecraft will no longer be updated or supported on FireTV Gen1, FireTV Gen2, and Android KitKat OS v20 and below." June is a summer month, so it would make sense for Mojang to update those platforms one last time before ending support for them. The 14th is just a complete guess though.
Part 2: Christmas Day (December 25th)
Evidence: Yeah there's not much other than "it would be a cool Christmas present for minecraft players everywhere" and the fact that most people who celebrate Christmas associate the phrase "Holiday Season" with it.
7. Conclusion
I'm excited for 1.17 no matter how long I have to wait for everything, and I honestly think the 2 release dates is for the better. Plus the Holiday Creator Features toggle will probably do something by Part 1's release, right?
#minecraft#1.17#minecraft 1.17#my last mc post aged like a fine milk so i hope this one will be... not as completely incorrect#not a meme#not a shitpost

'Star Wars' Actor Debra Wilson Is a Prolific Force Among Video Game Performers
The 'Mad TV' alum stars as exiled Jedi Cere Junda in the new action-adventure game.
Mornings don't seem to affect Debra Wilson. The star, perhaps best known as an original cast member and the longest-serving performer on Fox's sketch comedy series Mad TV, exudes a vibrant energy in the early hours, an effervescent positivity that is contagious even over the phone.
While Wilson made a name for herself in comedy, starring on Fox's answer to Saturday Night Live for more than eight seasons, in recent years she has become a prolific presence in gaming, building a resume with roles in more than 40 titles over the past five years alone. It is her latest project, EA and Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, however, that has brought her work in the medium into the spotlight in a new way.
"I believe I'm the first black female Jedi as far as video games are concerned," Wilson tells The Hollywood Reporter of her role as Cere Junda, an ex-Jedi living in exile following the passing of Order 66 by the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. Cere serves as a mentor to the game's protagonist, Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan), and is one of the game's lead characters.
"To be a part of the Star Wars universe in this regard is amazing," she says. "Growing up with Star Wars from a very early age — well, not that early because I’m a little older — it had a very powerful impact on me."
Fallen Order is not Wilson's first brush with the franchise, as she recalls a commercial she shot a few years ago ("which never ran") in which she played a Twi'lek, the tentacle-haired race of aliens that populate George Lucas' universe. "That was monumental in and of itself," she says, adding that becoming a Jedi for the new game is a "meteoric jump."
As Cere, Wilson is not hidden under a head full of squid-like appendages. The character was modeled after her, using performance capture technology to render her likeness into the game, a decision she says she is "grateful and deeply humbled" to Lucasfilm (which consulted on the game) for making. "It’s the first time I’m on a game box," she exclaims.
The project was shrouded in secrecy from its earliest stages (Fallen Order had two separate working titles, Rowboat and Bird Dog), but Wilson picked up on a few hints throughout the audition process that pointed toward what type of game this would eventually become. "I had early inklings, because the one thing they did tell you was the character’s name," she says. "It didn’t feel like an average name, and they weren’t telling you to do an accent. I thought, this feels like it’s otherworldly."
Playing an exiled Jedi knight during a time period that has not been explored as much as others in the Star Wars universe, Wilson had a lot of blank canvas to work with when crafting her role as Cere (pronounced "sear", not like Apple's Siri, though Wilson does do a spot-on impersonation of the AI). When asked if she took any inspiration from past entries in the Star Wars pantheon, she says she relied on only one guide: "Truth."
"You’re part of a franchise that requires something of you," she says. "You have to do the work as a performer to bring that organic truth to the table. That’s the thing you have to bring in your arsenal more than anything. You can do the research, but you’re not there to mimic."
Wilson credits the gaming industry for continuing to offer strong roles to female performers. "I’ve been blessed to play female characters who are not just side characters, who are powerful and rich and deep and have journeys," she says. "I’m very grateful that the industry allows that and welcomes it, because on the outside, as me, no one cares about my age, my looks, my race or my gender. It’s all about capturing the performance from the inside out."
In 2019, Wilson has starred in ten games, many of which are the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful releases of the year, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, The Outer Worlds, Gears 5, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Rage 2, Days Gone and Far Cry New Dawn.
Wilson sees games (and performance capture) as a new frontier, offering roles to a wider range of performers from more diverse backgrounds. "I’m finding that what I do as I move through this creative space is more viable than when I was younger. Back then, when it was just in front of camera, it was based on your look," she says. "Here, the only thing that's necessary is bringing your A-game, because we’re going to ask you to do the work from the inside out."

@dxmedstudent delivered a tag unto me and I’m using my day off to lounge super hard
1) If you could ban one thing from the world, What do you choose?
Hypocrisy. I mean, no one’s perfect but it’s been a ride watching people say one thing and then act another way throughout my entire life.
It should have tangible consequences.
2) If you could bring one thing into existence which doesn’t exist (or no longer exists). What would it be?
Personal flight craft, at an average consumer level. Not an airplaine or a helicopter, but something I can fly out of my backyard.
There are tons of prototypes announced, but nothing there yet. It would be like the electric bike/scooter for flying. 3) What flavours do you particularly enjoy? Anything you really detest?
I’m really strong on coconut. I would run a political campaign on a pro-coconut platform.
I’m still not good with black licorice. 4) What’s your least favourite colour and why? Is there a texture you can’t stand?
That weird burnt orange metallic paint I see on cars. So gross.
I have a thing about the chewiness of squid. Very seldom have I enjoyed it, and in those cases it was usually well-seasoned and cooked tender. 5) Share a song you’ve discovered recently that you enjoy listening to.
Anderson Paak started off as Breezy Lovejoy, which is the name he released his first album under. I can’t believe I never knew, but the entire OBE Vol. 1 album is phenomenal. 6) Share a fact that you’ve learned and are quite chuffed with.
Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cells.
Wait, no. Clonidine, traditionally a medication for blood pressure control, has evidence for a role in anxiety/ADHD management. 7) Tell me about something you’ve discovered and enjoyed recently, and what you like about it. It can be a book, TV series, anime, video game, etc.
I haven’t really had time for new pleasures. Right before intern year I started watching Atlanta (w/ Donald Glover) and loved it.
I finished Master of None and really liked that too. 8) What’s your favourite mythical creature? And if you were a mythical creature, what would you be?
The Nightman, to both questions. He has eyes like a cat and does karate. 9) Share a favourite quote that means something personal to you.
I was trying to remember a quote from An Imperfect Offering by James Orbinski, still one of my favorite books. I found it, but in my search through my old posts I found one much more timely: “If they don’t know you personally, don’t take it personally.”
I know this quote is about letting stuff go, but in my current surroundings I take it in a different light. I’ve made it a point lately that when people are giving me feedback and asking if I have any background problems going on, they get the story.
Every time I’ve started, I’ve been stopped with “oh, that’s okay you don’t have to tell me.” No. I need you to know, because you’re sitting here riding me and dumping expectations on me but you suddenly don’t want to know the depth of what’s holding me back? That doesn’t help you and it doesn’t help me. It allows you to say “well I went through some shit and I did just fine” which, again, doesn’t help me. And it perpetuates the stigma behind mental health. Out of sight, out of mind.
If you are going to level vague criticism at me, I want you to be painfully aware of what’s going on in my life, what’s affecting your resident’s performance. Once I’ve forced you to track on it, then we can move forward. 10) Share an app that makes your life better. Could be a game, something that organises your life, whatever you choose.
Sleep Cycle. It’s not the most accurate by nature of how it works, but it correlates extremely well with the quality of my sleep.
For anyone mucking about with sleep issues, I recommend it. The alarm function is dialed into the measurements and tries to wake you up within a window of time (for which you set the latest time) so you can get up at the lightest part of your cycle. And it’s free. I’m too lazy to tag anyone or rewrite questions, I was not the best candidate for this lmao

Scrapbook for the second half of 2017, because tumblr doesn’t like it when you have a million links on one post.

Goals are: read thirty-five new books this year (yikes, way behind), finish four video games (definitely on track here), finish writing and publish the Sabriel AU (eh heh), and write something original (does coming up with the idea count?).

June:
Running on Air by eleventy7 (HP; Drarry; 75k; Draco Malfoy has been missing for three years. Harry is assigned the cold case and finds himself slowly falling in love with the memories he collects.)
Slithering by astolat (HP; Drarry; 27k; Draco found the nest down in the Manor’s cellars, while he was clearing them out.)
Bitter Honey, Green Night by Faith Wood (faithwood) (HP; Drarry; 14k; An inn, an Auror, a criminal, a mystery.)
Hermione Granger's Hogwarts Crammer for Delinquents on the Run by waspabi (HP; Drarry; 93k; 'You're a wizard, Harry' is easier to hear from a half-giant when you're eleven, rather than from some kids on a tube platform when you're seventeen and late for work.)
Stately Homes of Wiltshire by waspabi (HP; Drarry; 57k; Malfoy Manor has mould, dry rot and an infestation of unusually historical poltergeists. Harry Potter is on the case.)
stranger things than polyamory by trepan (Stranger Things; Jonathon/Steve/Nancy; 3.5k; Somebody spray-paints NANCY WHEELER HAS TWO BOYFRIENDS on a wall she walks by on her way back from school in May. There are a couple of other students watching her as she passes. Nancy gives the sign a long look, then smirks at them politely.)
the heart its own rough animal by trepan (Stranger Things; Jonathon/Nancy/Steve; 21k; “Where’s her daemon,” says one of the boys urgently. “Guys, she doesn’t have one.”)
in the bone by patho (ghostsoldier) (Dishonored; Corvo/Outsider; 2.8k; It all began when Corvo started kissing the Mark for luck.)
The Sea and Stars Are Yours, My Dear, But the Moon Would Not Cooperate by NeverwinterThistle (Dishonored; Corvo/Outsider; 25k; The Outsider explores the murky seas of human courtship while Corvo watches in bemusement, and in the background Emily draws, Callista takes charge, Piero sulks, and Cecelia accidentally becomes indispensable. There's also a plague, a vase of asparagus, and about a hundred singing whales who randomly showed up in the harbour one evening. The squid is still wriggling.)
apocrypha by aerynlallaboso (Dishonored; Corvo/Outsider; 95k+; WIP; The Eighth year of the reign of Empress Emily Kaldwin, First of her Name, the second year without a whisper from the Outsider, is the year the Void chooses to mark the end of an era.)
a small soft death by patho (ghostsoldier) (Dishonored; Corvo/Outsider; 2.8k; “The finest steel,” the Outsider says, “is forged with true purpose in mind. Elements that enhance the strength of the weapon are carefully chosen, and those that make the metal brittle and weak are burned away. It is an exacting process. The most beautiful dagger will be of no use at all if the steel is not properly tempered. Do you understand?”)
in·car·nate by bygoneboy (Dishonored; Corvo/Outsider; 21k; The Void’s Chosen have loved him before.)
The Crown of the Summer Court by astolat (Merlin; Merlin/Arthur; 24k; "The king sent me to get you," Merlin said, with a tone that implied strongly that he wasn't rolling his eyes where Arthur could see, but just wait until his back was turned. "He said you're to get changed into formal clothes and meet him in the Great Hall, there's a delegation coming from the Summer Court.")
the king of oak by saltpans (HP: FBAWTFT; Credance/Percival Graves; 38k; The first thing Percival Graves does after being released back into the world is buy a new wand.)
Hi, You Were My Husband in Another Life, Professor by littlebirdtold (Star Trek; Spirk; 48k; Um, hi. I'm Jim. Jim Kirk. You don't know me, but I know you. Well, sort of. It's a long story.)
Bluebird by waldorph (Star Trek; Spirk; 7k; Jim whipped around so fast most of his drink ended up on Spock, who was reaching for the phaser that wasn’t there. The Enterprise crew was parting like the biblical seas before Moses, and Jim could feel the temperature dropping. “Mom,” Jim croaked.)
Misethere by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 46k; Emhyr was looking at him for once, with a strange expression. “I have misjudged you,” he said, sounding irritated actually: how dare Geralt surprise him.“I get that a lot,” Geralt said.)
Blooded Crown by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 24k; “You need not thank me,” Emhyr said. “I have an ulterior motive.”It annoyed Geralt to be surprised. He should’ve known from the start. “Yeah?” The words came out with a little bite. “Have another daughter you need me to track down?”“If I wished to hire you, I would hire you,” Emhyr said. “No: I want you to come to my bed.”)
Cursed by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 8k; Geralt was reasonably sure this was the worst damn day of the worst damn month of his life, and it hadn’t hit bottom yet.)
July:
The War of Silver and Ash by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 15k; He hadn’t come here with a contract. He’d come here to get the faces out of his head: the bloodless dead sprawled in heaps through the streets of Beauclair, the morning after the rampage Detlaff had unleashed; the blank eyes of the boy in the orphanage tilting his head to let Orianna drink from his throat, with the lullaby she’d been singing him still hanging in the air.Wasn’t working that well so far.)
A Year In Toussaint by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 30k; Geralt had no damn idea what to do with a vineyard when Anna Henrietta gave him Corvo Bianco, but he figured it couldn’t be that bad.)
circling by xpityx (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 5k; Emhyr sighed, as if Geralt’s lack of immediate understanding was a fundamental failure of his character.)
Running Behind by Asidian (FFXV; Prompto/Noctis; WIP; There's a tag hanging on his storage pod, instead of the clipboard that documents his progress. On that tag, there's a single word stamped in red: defective.)
Toys by astolat (Lucifer; Lucifer/Chloe; 2k; “You want to fuck me!” he said gleefully.)
Emblazoning by astolat (Merlin; OT4; 19k; Morgana turned away from the high, barred window and rubbed her arms, chilled and bare. Arthur was sitting in the dirty straw at the very limit of his chains, which kept him a few inches too far away to touch Merlin's limp body. Outside they were putting up the stake.)
Redemption Merry Go-Round by astolat (Lucifer; Lucifer/Dan/Chloe; 8k; Dan was deeply sorry for whatever he’d done in his life that had landed him in this mess, and also reasonably sure that despite all the shit he’d pulled in the last couple of years, he still didn’t deserve this.)
wild peaches by notbecauseofvictories (The Labyrinth; Sarah/Goblin King; 3k; The morning after Sarah Williams defeats the Goblin King, she gets up and makes toast.)
where the weeds take root by beenghosting (Supernatural; Destiel; 30k+; “Are you happy? Y’know. Just—being here,” Dean says, gesturing to the yard with his beer bottle. “Being with—I mean, you used to fight in celestial wars and—and save the world. Now you’re growing vegetables and talking about chickens.”)
damnatio memoriae by temporalDecay (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 12k; “May I walk the estate?” Emhyr repeated, and his nose crinkled in that familiar twitch of displeasure that Geralt had always secretly delighted in causing, despite how downright suicidal it was to invoke it on purpose. “I'm not going to run away,” he added, with a slight glare. “I'm merely bored.”)
Heart and Home by lc2l (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 97k; In an alternate Paris, werewolves occupy the majority of the ruling classes, making and adjusting policy to suit their interests. The punishments for a human attacking a werewolf can be brutal, unless they have the protection of a wolf pack. How this translates to 'claim Grantaire as your mate to get him out of prison' is something Enjolras is still trying to get his head around, but he's never been one to give up on a cause even when it's sleeping on his sofa.)
August
How the Future's Done by barricadeur (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 12k; "Grantaire," he says slowly. "What do you have in that box?")
vocal ink by sarahyyy (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 3k; “Officially, we don’t have a leader, everyone here is equal,” Courfeyrac says, keeping his voice low as Enjolras starts his speech, “but if we did, and we don’t, it would be Enjolras.” He looks over to Marius. “Do not approach him. Let him come to you, let him be the first to initiate conversation, and for the love of God, do not mention soulmates.”)
Years Since It's Been Clear by lady_ragnell (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 10k; Grantaire really doesn't expect Enjolras to force him to move in with him when he hears how shitty Grantaire's apartment is. And he definitely doesn't expect Enjolras to want him to stay, or how easy it turns out to be, or the way Enjolras has a habit of doing his studying in the sunshine on the living room floor ...)
Tolerable (Inuyasha; Sesshomaru&Miroku; 30k; “The scent is not entirely unpleasant.”)
Silence Is the Speech of Love by lady_ragnell (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 50k; Grantaire's life has a pattern: he pays his respects to Aphrodite, he goes to work, he loves Enjolras and provokes him because he can't bring himself to do otherwise.)
The Five Year Plan by Neery (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 16k; Enjolras loses his memory. Thankfully, nothing unexpected seems to have happened to him in the five years he can't remember. Well, except for the boyfriend. The boyfriend's kind of a surprise.)
dance this silence down (the emergency room remix) by Fahye (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 54k; He's sitting in a car with all of his belongings in the back seat and his hands wrapped around the steering wheel, admitting to himself that a stupid, dizzy firework of a one-night-stand with a man he'd barely known is one of the only bright memories he has right now.)
World Ain't Ready by idiopathicsmile (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 185k; Enjolras presses his lips together. He already looks pained, and Grantaire hasn't even opened his mouth yet. That's got to be a record, even for them."I need a favor," he says at last)**
The Ghost of You by luchia (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 25k; Grantaire moves into an apartment inhabited by a poltergeist. Enjolras haunts him, and Grantaire should really win an award for most complicated relationship status ever.)
box of secrets by nightswatch (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 53k; Grantaire leaves his doodles all over the place. Enjolras collects them without knowing who drew them.)
Yes, Sir by mikkimouse (Voltron; Sheith; 8k; "Are you all ready to get started?""Yes, sir!" twenty voices answered in unison.Shiro's stomach flipped at the words. Oh, no.The soulmark on his right wrist burned, confirmation that his soulmate was one of the twenty people who'd just uttered the phrase.)
despite what you've been told by caseyvalhalla (Yuri On Ice; Yuuri/Viktor; 14k; When Victor falls, he goes down hard.)
these things take time by sonhoedesrazao (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 63k; He’s always wary of making assumptions; even more so when Grantaire is concerned. He knows he’s not the easiest person to deal with. People either like him or can’t stand him, and it’s easy to respond to those reactions, but Grantaire—Grantaire is hostile and mocking, Grantaire scorns his beliefs, and Grantaire stays.)
In the End We Have Each Other by samyazaz (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 50k; what startles Enjolras the most is that he manages approximately half a step through the door into the back room where they all meet before Grantaire rattles his glass down on the table in the back that he's taken for his own and drawls, "Is there something you forgot to tell us, Apollo?"That silences the room, predictably enough. Everyone breaks off their conversations and swivels to stare at him. At him, and at the baby carrier that he's got hooked over one arm.)
True Colors by lady_ragnell (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 4k; The first thing that catches Enjolras's eye when he enters the Musain Cafe for the first time is the walls. They're a dull black that it takes him a moment to realize must be chalkboard paint, because near the tables there are words and doodles, and all over, even the erased sections are stained with faint colored marks like the walls have soulmarks.)
Hit Me With Your Best Shot by tellthemstories (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 10k; Fourteen times Grantaire tried to kill Enjolras. And one time he fell in love.)
RSVP (+1) by tellthemstories (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantire; 21k; When Enjolras is invited to Marius and Cosette’s wedding, he fully intends to ignore the ‘plus one’ on the invite. He’s busy at work and he has a lot on - he doesn’t have time for relationships. What he doesn’t expect is for Grantaire to invite himself along and then hit it off immediately with all of his friends.)
always there to remind you by estora, taywen (Dishonored; Corvo/Daud; 8k; Later, after he had killed a number of people for coin, but before he killed so many that he lost count, Daud was glad he had no mark. No soulmate deserved to have his words marked on their skin.)
( Watercast by Fishwrites (Voltron; Lance/Keith; 96k; WIP; Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!))

Let's Switch it up!
So us you probably all know I like Nintendo products. There are couple of reasons for that, but I think nostalgia has a lot to do with it. I liked playing games like Contra or Mario in my younger times, because those games were simply fun. Nintendo still has some great ideas when it comes to game designing. I think Splatoon is one of the prime examples here.
(You’re a kid, you’re a squid now!)
For those of you that don't know about what game am I talking now Splatoon is a team based platforming arena shooter about squids. Oh and paintball... You win by covering map with your team colour, and by turning into a squid you can swin in your paint for higher movement speed and longer jumps. If this very brief explanation doesn't seem exciting for you it's okay, because I really think you need to play it or extensively watch to understand. This whole bizzare concept for a game came from young team of game designers in Nintendo. In the world of really violent shooters like Titanfall 2, Doom or Battlefield the non-violent route seems risky to say the least. Nintendo is known from this high risk high reward move or in other words cheese.
(Triforce... cheese joke...)
Nintendo's whole bussines relies on three fundamentals let's call this a Triforce for humour purposes.
Zelda
Link started his adventure on Nintendo Entertainment System with Legend of Zelda and it quickly proved everyone that he is here to stay. There is something magical about all those games starring Link. Maybe it is everyone's dream for the grand adventure where you save a princess. You know the one that takes place in a kingdom far, far away. You just pick up a sword and charge into unknown. Is it safe out there? Of course not and that is why you have a sword. Maybe it is the fact that Link is just another random noname boy and he simply believes that what he is doing is right. By the way this is courage App... back to the point. I know that this seems like a typical story in typical world by lazy writer, but I don't know it just works. It is simple and it is fun.
Mario
Platformer about a plumber who saves a princess, but in Mario defense those games actually have very little story to it. This game is all about precise jumps and last second decisions. Nobody actually cares who Mario is, why he is here or why the hell he has a mustache. He just is here to beat King Koopa and his minions and free princess Peach from her prison. Ridiculous? Of course it is, but again this a game about story. Everyone plays Mario for great level design and interesting mechanics or power ups. Thanks to the succes of the first game Mario became an icon for Nintendo. So much so the company venture into other genres with him like kart racing or RPG. He even was briefly considered as a playable character fo Splatoon and thank Jim they went with squids. Mario is on the front line for gaming not just for Nintendo.
Gimmicks
Wait, what? Yes, I think that trying to be as innovative as possible with every product is the fundament of Nintendo and it is the most important one for them. It is at the same time a blessing and a curse for them. I mean just look at the Wii succes versus Wii U failure. Yeah the marketing for the latter was just so painly bad that it is hard to even comprehend, but it is also showing the mentality of Nintendo “Play big or don't even bother”. They create hardware that relies on some new interesting idea and then they will try to build a game that use it to its fullest potential. Most of the times this approach really works and we receive a well balanced gameplay that is just fun to play around. The problem appears when N will try to reinvent a wheel and gameplay will suffer because they refuse to use schematics that simply work. Nintendo is Nintendo biggest enemy in this situations.
youtube
(That was actually very good)
Okay so with all that in mind let's talk march 3rd and the upcoming release of Nintendo Switch. Brand new hybrid of handheld and stationary console which was, for a very long time, known under a codename NX. As, hopefully, you can see the premise is simple but actually really exciting. Play your games on a TV and when you need to leave your home just snap Joycon's on the console and take your game with you. Even the click sound is something that still sits in my head and does not want to leave. I don't know this console just spoke to me when on october 20th this clip saw the light of day. It was awesome till like 5 minutes after the clip realeased. It went only down for me after that.
(My excellent hype versus time line)
I think the biggest problem for me is the attitude that Nintendo presented after that. They simply refused to say anything about their shiny new console until January 12th. They didn't want to comment on anything, not even a confirmation that Skyrim would be ported for the device. Why would you show gameplay of a game if you aren't ready to acknowledge it will be on your console. You could say that they wanted to avoid drowning in sea of mud that is christmas, but for me this just shows that you don't believe in your product. You don't have anything new this holiday season so why in the hell you go silent? Okay so maybe this is just my gamer ADHD speaking. Maybe the January presentation will be awesome and it will be all fine.
youtube
(I feel kinda meh..)
Well... yes and no. The price is actually quite nice and of course the games are actually really interesting. Of course we already knew a lot about Breath of the Wild and it actually looks really good from gameplay perspective. There is of course new Mario game which looks really weird and awesome at the same time. The hat throwing in particular seems like a mechanic that can provide really hard and really satisfying manouvers. Splatoon is coming back with some more splatting and while it looks like just more of the same it is fine, because this game is just that good. Of course Nintendo wouldn't be itself if it didn't introduce something entirely new to the table.
(Arms a new IP)
Arms is game about putting on some boxing gloves and stepping on a ring to fight 1on1 with some absurd enemy. Oh and your character is also absurd just to let you know. I mean the over stylisation is fine, because at this point you just don't expect anything else from Nintendo. Not to mention that they are the company that actually can deliver when it comes down to simple fun from gameplay. So actually while Arms may as well seem really stupid it can actually work pretty well.
(Series of mini games.)
1-2 Switch is actually series of mini games that tries to show off what an actual hardware can do. In most cases you don't even need to look on the screen to play. There are games like cow milking, wizard fight, cowboy quick draw... Simple stuff that will entertain your guests for like an hour and it will be put back to the box and never shown again. In their defense Wii Sports is on the second place when it comes to copies sold, but it also was bundled to Wii for a very long time. 1-2 is not budled it is a stand-alone product with MSRP 49.99. This is a lot I don't care how many mini games are there.
(Those are of course included in base console, but additional cost...)
I think this is the problem I have with Switch the cost is low, but not as low to reason day one/year one purchase. It may seem like there is a lot games coming to Switch now in March, but no. Mario will be released in holiday season. Arms will be month or two after Switch and the same goes for Mario Kart. Splatoon 2? Summer 2017. Of all that games only Zelda and 1-2 Switch is coming day one. No, wait Bomberman R... wait no... Do I want to count it? Well early adopters sure as hell will need to do it because there is nothing else they will be able to do with this device.
(Wii U got crap for too big controller. How is it any different?)
There will be no video apps available for them at launch and before you ask. No, not even Youtube. Meaning that you are either happy with Zelda or will use Switch as shiny statue on your shelf. I don't expect Zelda to suck as the matter of fact I can safely claim this will GOTY for 2017, but some choice would be nice. Surely we can compromise I mean Wii U had some awesome internet browser and almost everything worked there. There is only one small exception for this Nintendo Switch will not feature aa internet browser on launch. If and when it will appear remains a secret. Not that you could use internet on the go. Switch will not have sim card slot for 3G or something like that. So maybe let's turn to third parties, indies of this world.
(The indies)
So there will be World of Goo on day one, great. Except people that would want to play this game already did on other devices. We have Binding of Isaac great game that will debut on march 17th, but wait currently only for NA region. Despite claiming on the presentation that will not be region locked we still need to jump through hoopes of company own regional politics. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't sometimes pissed on Sony for the very same thing, but I swear Nintendo is worse. We also have Shovel Knight great game... here actually have a list and sort by date here. It seems like a lot but keep in my mind that most of those are just rereleased products. Please don't exactly believe people saying something along the line of “X game is amazing I bought it on y, z and t, and I will buy it for Switch”. I mean maybe believe them, but are you seriously consider them sane? For comparison PS4 here, and of course sort by date and look at day one/month one anything after that is pointless.
(JoyCon)
Remember when I said that the biggest enemy of Nintendo is Nintendo? I think the villain strikes again. Aside the horrendous accessory prices for Switch. Single Joycons that presumably are perfect for a grown-up. Like hell they are... There is the problem of power. There is reason as to why specifics about GPU or CPU can be found only in rumours and leaks. Official specifications here basicly says “Yes, we have a GPU here.”... Well I hope so. The internet got mad about Mohammad Alavi comment "No. F*** no. No you're not going to be able to fit Titanfall on it. That's the same Zelda from the Wii U [laughs].". This is Respawn Entertainment senior designer saying no to prospect of porting TF2 to Switch. Just to let you know they did exceptional optimisation for PS4 in my eyes. You receive nice 60 FPS and I swear sometimes I blinked and missed the load times for couple MP matches. The amount of work needed to downgrade a game like this so it will work like this is absurd and not worth the money. AAA developers would need to create games specifically for Switch and they will not create games for a platform that doesn't sold well. It didn't sold well because people are not especially keened on buying Nintendo only exclusive device... I mean I have Wii U, but I am not entirely sane... exactly... So the playerbase will stay low and... You see where I am going here? Okay, but you could say Wii and try to shut me down this way.
(Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii)
Well the whole premise of motion controls simply worked for everyone. Gramma, granda, mother, father, uncle, three year old sister, that cousin that hate games. Pretty much all of them know how to swing a tennis racket or play golf using Wiimote. The stereotypical housewives played Wii Sports to stay fit and it was a perfect sell. I mean if there was one thing that nerds don't do is exercise. So no I don't think Switch even remotely compares to what Wii have to offer. Not to mention that those housewives does not have any reason to buy a new shiny box. At this point I am fairly convinced that Nintendo hardware would endure atomic bomb, napalm strike, Cyclops laser beam, dropping from 100 meters and Hugh Jackman.
youtube
(That’s right!)
As always only time will tell if Nintendo is a genius or they will need to live through another generation of weak sales. I wish I was wrong. I wish that Switch will be a great game changer, but at this point I think there only be one true game changer. Pokemon. If there ever was a franchise that literally moved consoles and people bought a device only to play one game it is this one. It would also need to come with the news of killing New 3DS. It is possible, but when?

Assassination Classroom Anime Review
Title: Assassination Classroom Genre: Comedy, Action, Slice of Life Studio: Lerche Original Release Date: 2015 Based On: Assassination Classroom Manga by Yūsei Matsui Length: Season 1 is 22 episodes, Season 2 has 25 episodes, for a total of 47 episodes. There is also a spin off series called Koro-Sensei Q and several animated and live action films and OVAs. There’s even a game (only in Japanese) by Bandai.
Where to watch: Crunchyroll has season 1. But they do not have season 2 Funimation has seasons 1 and 2. You can subscribe to both Crunchyroll and Funimation – and some other anime/scifi networks for $9.99 a month in a new service called VRV at https://vrv.co/. They both also have Koro-Sensei Quest. From what I can tell neither of them have the movies or OVAs available.
Overall: 60/70 86% B “Very Good Anime for Girls”
Geeky: 5/5 The comedy and action in Assassination Classroom will appeal to fans of any gender. The animation and character designs are unique, and there are a number of pop culture references and jokes that will appeal to fans of geek or super hero culture.
Sweetie: 5/5 Surprisingly, this may not seem like a “sweet” anime at first glance, but Koro-Sensei is adorable, and also a very good, thoughtful, kind teacher who loves his students. This anime is full of just as many heartfelt moments as it is full of comedy and action.
Overview: 10/10 Assassination Classroom is first and foremost a slice of life anime. Each episode focuses on a different student or faculty member and how Koro-Sensei helps them with whatever turmoil they are experiencing while at school. Assassination Classroom is also very much a comedy anime, as if you can’t tell by just looking at the design for Koro-Sensei. He is a murderous demon lord with a sweet tooth, love for super hero movies, and kind heart, but that still doesn’t mean he won’t destroy the earth. Although Koro-Sensei may be a villain that the other students must defeat, it is hard to not fall in love with Koro and his classroom. Each episode does have action, with the students trying to defeat their teacher, but each episode also is full of tender sweet moments, and lots of very wtf moments and comedy as well.
Story: 8/10 Koro-Sensei destroyed 75% of the earth’s moon, and his next target is to destroy the earth. Koro has made a deal with the government, he proposes that he be allowed to teach a classroom of students and that the students be given special weapons and special training in order to kill Koro-Sensei. If the students fail to kill Koro-Sensei before graduation he will destroy the earth.
Koro-Sensei is not such a bad guy though. He earnestly wants his students to succeed in defeating him. He also takes interest in each of his students, wanting to ensure they have a happy school life. The students he is teaching are part of Class-E referred to as the “Garbage Class”. The lowest scoring students, as well as delinquents and trouble makers of their school.
No one believes these students will amount to anything, and the principal even believes these students must not be encouraged to succeed because it is imperative to make an example out of them to motivate the other students to perform better or else they too may end up like the students of Class-E.
This is where Koro-Sensei disagrees. He absolutely believes that his students are smart, talented, capable, and just as deserving as the other students in the school. While many other students and faculty members seek to make life harder for the students in Class-E, Koro-Sensei seeks to make their lives better.
Koro is joined by additional faculty members, appointed by the school or by the government, to further train the students to kill Koro before the deadline. New students also come to the classroom as well. They all begin to get along and begin to experience a happy school life under Koro’s guidance.
Koro could best be described as a squid like creature. He makes (ridiculously cute) squishing sounds when he walks, has a sweet tooth, and unique super powers. He can travel at mach 20 speeds, regenerate his tentacles, clone himself, change forms, shed his skin, and other unique abilities that make him nearly impossible for his students to kill.
Little else is known about Koro-Sensei. As the story goes on, more is revealed about his past, his connections to the school, and the real reason why the students must defeat him before graduation. Note: I haven’t finished watching this anime yet, but that’s basically what the synopsis from wikipedia explains as the story. I’m up to episode 16 out of 47, so there’s still a lot to learn.
Wanting to learn the real reasons behind Koro-Sensei’s request to teach at that school, and learn more about Koro Sensei himself keeps the story moving, and keeps the viewer interested with morbid curiosity.
However, the story does at times move a little slow, like most slice of life anime. There are a lot of filler episodes, and after awhile, it becomes a bit predictable. My friend also likes to point out how unrealistic the story is, because if the moon was destroyed it would have a major impact on the Earth, and thus make Koro’s threats to destroy the Earth a moot point. This in no way detracts from the enjoyment of the show, but in trying to be objective, I would say those are the flaws of the show.
Characters: 10/10 One really unique thing about this anime is how each episode highlights a different character. You come to know the back stories of all 27 of the students, faculty members, and Koro-Sensei. There clearly are 2 or 3 students that are more “important” than others, but overall, each of the characters are given a chance to shine, and each of them are fleshed out in detail with their own troubles and school-life struggles which Koro guides them to overcome. Each character is so unique that they even (very slightly) alter every single opening theme song animation to include the new students. You get a sense that the classroom is like a close family. Koro begins doing exceptionally nice things for his students, taking them on trips, planting a garden, building a swimming pool, and of course encouraging them to stand up to the other students who bully them in the school. Character development is one of the key things that keeps this anime moving, watching the students in Class E begin to believe in themselves, and come together with a common goal (to kill their teacher.).
Art: 6/10 – Some of the character designs seem kinda wonky… but they are actually done in a style similar to the manga. Koro is super cute, and most of the students look distinctive. The animation style is clean, but simple, and not overly detailed. There’s nothing mind blowing about the animation, but it is still modern, clean, and fresh.
Voice Acting: 10/10 – Koro Sensei alone has one of the best voice actors, with a very distinctive evil laugh, that is more cute than it is terrifying. The other cast members are also very talented, but less memorable than Koro.
Music: 6/10 – The music is a bit hit or miss. The first opening and ending themes are really catchy. I’m not as much a fan of the 2nd themes. Background music is good, but not overly remarkable.
Overall: 60/70 86% B “Very Good Anime for Girls”
