My current top 15 Anime and why
Because why the fuck not. I'm doing top 15 so that I have some variety behind it. Otherwise I would just be gushing non stop XD
Apparently numbers go big now - AND THEY GO SMALLER IF YOU TRY TO TYPE IN THE SAME LINE AS THEM???
comparison:
15
15 -
DA HECK????
(Edit: I was going to colour all the numbers because I wanted a rainbow. WHY THE FUCK FOR THEY CHANGE TO SMALL WHEN YOU COLOUR THEM??????)
Guess the titles of the anime get a small heading. Anyways. Onto the actual list!
15
Technoroid OVERMIND
Ayo. Starting out with a really random one. So if anyone were to look at my Anilist then they might be a bit confused. I decided I'd keep movies out of here as well as anything I haven't specifically finished. Also takt op. Destiny needs a re evaluation.
Anyways. This premise is so sick and I feel like they managed it really well. The characters were all really fun and the music was fantastic which is honestly the most important thing about Idol shows. I really like idol shows but often struggle with the stupid drama in them that just leads to seasons upon seasons that didn't need to happen or wouldn't actually happen.
In this they're just androids. The fantasy twist works so well for the genre and I honestly don't know why it isn't done more often. This way they can bullshit the drama and it actually makes sense.
Honestly my favourite character was Kite. He was great and his voice always gave me shivers. Especially his piece in the closing. Damn.
I don't want to go into full reviews with this, rather just gushing about things I like and stuff. I really don't think this got the recognition it deserves - probably because of it's deviation from the norm - but it would be cool to get some sort of sequel.
(Edit: There's a manga releasing apparently. Imma check that out.)
14
UniteUp!
Continuing on with the trend of idol animes apparently. UniteUp! was so good. As I mentioned in my Reviews while I watch of the show, it felt so grounded and real that other idol shows just don't seem to capture. These were all real people with real problems dealing with real life.
I also like how we had such a large cast of characters but it never really felt overwhelming as they focused on group dynamics and specific individuals rather than trying to cram every single person into their own arcs.
Once again the music was fantastic and by god was this show pretty gay. Honestly I don't know what the sentiments of others are, but the Anela duo definitely weren't straight and neither were Akira and Daiki. That bath scene says it all.
Anyways. If you want a fun time with a really solid idol anime, please check it out. I saw earlier that we're getting a season two soon. I am so looking forward to it.
13
Trigun Stampede
Damn! I don't even know what to really say about this one. The visuals are absolutely stunning - there is no doubt about that. The score and the characters are excellent. And how dare they leave us on that cliff hanger.
I have absolutely no history with this story and still need to watch and read the originally but I am really looking forward to seeing how the story adapts between the three.
You can ask my partner. I've already said we're watching everything trigun related as soon as we are done with our current show.
I'm really looking forward to season two. And especially seeing how this all pans out. Apparently there will be tears according to the fandom. Concern.
12
Re-main
Damn this show came out of nowhere for me. I watched it quite awhile ago and have been meaning to rewatch it again.
The premise is definitely a sports anime but honestly so different. All because of one thing. The fact that he is an amnesiac is such a fascinating concept to work with - especially with how he was before (trying not to spoil - can't remember when this comes up in the anime)
And then the ending?? Damn. They seriously set up that cliff hanger and I really hope this show gets a sequel.
I really can't say too much about it without giving away some spoilers but damn does it change up the formula and do it so fucking well.
11
Given
Given is great. Such a pure but heartbreaking portrayal of love on one side with such conflicting but also nurturing views on the other. Having the different realtionships throughout this is really well done how they all bounce off of each other. Especially when they entertwine it with the music.
As it is said. That is how they communicate - through the music.
I'm busy catching up with the manga and really hope the anime continues with it.
Also the fucking is just fucking gorgeous. It has no write to hit you that hard.
Also - something else that shouldn't be allowed to hit you that hard. Damn Mafuyu has had a difficult past. We love how he learns to heal and grow with Uenoyama at his side.
Anyways, moving on.
10
Bakuten!!
Okay. Who said a sports anime could be this pretty.
I love the art style and the music throughout all of this. I love the portayal and the evolution of these character - seriously all their arcs are great. The interactions of the team is so tangible and real.
I watch a lot of sports anime and I often struggle with some of the drama used within the sports - it feels like the only thing that ever fuels the story is the matches. Whereas in Bakuten - the character seriously fuel the story. You can understand their motivations much more than just - I want to play this sport and be the best!
I also feel like they really captured everything really well in the movie. The whole concept of wanting to sore is great and really well executed.
I also love the interactions they have with the other team. It's not just a once off competition or practice match that they face each other. We actually get tangible characters for the whole team and see how much they two teams are similar to one another. It's a very healthy rivalry that isn't normally this expanded on in sports anime.
9
Sasaki and Miyano
Yesssssss. These two are just absolutely amazing. Their whole story arc and relationship is just tooth rottingly sweet. They bounce off of each other so well.
And I love the fact of how slow the actual story is. They meet at the start of Miyanos first year (from what I know - I still need to read the novels) and sasaki's second and they only end up confessing just before graduation happens. It really plays out well and is so healthy.
There is no problematic elements like in so many BL stories which is such a breath of fresh air. And the fact that sasaki is very specific about making sure to maintain boundaries to ensure that miyano is comfortable is also excellent.
On a slightly different note - I still need to see the Hirano and Kagiura movie. Been dying to watch it. I've been keeping up to date with both manga and both of these stories are amazing. I love the dichotomy of the two stories and how they are coming to their own realisations of their feelings in honestly very different ways.
I also recently watched the dub of the anime due to some videos on tiktok. Fucking hell it is absolutely hilarious. Kellen Goff as Sasaki has no reason for being that good. Seriously. Damn.
8
Link Click
On a completely different note. Damn this one makes you questions your own morals and reality as you know it.
I really don't want to get into this one much as I do believe watching it blind is the best way to go.
The art style is fantastic and that opening hits like a truck it is so good. The characters just click (pun not intended) and you just understand their motivations and don't know which side to side with most of the time. It brings about such high moral dilemmas that will seriously mess with your brain sometimes and there is one episode that will likely make you cry.
Anyways. Season 2 has just started airing and I am so ready for it.
7
Buddy Daddies
Why did a show about two queer platonic dudes who adopt a child while beings assassins hit so damn hard.
The show jumps between episodes with backstory and episodes with them just being good dads and it is balanced so well. This anime won't end up getting a sequel most likely with how it ended but damn I wouldn't say no to one.
Rei is my favourite character and I relate to him far too much. His interactions with the world are so fascinating and his whole arc with Miri is honestly some of the best media I've seen.
I absolutely loved watching this show weekly and it always brightened up my day when I realised a new episode would be up.
If you would like further thoughts on this one then check the Reviews while I watch on it for more chaos.
6
No Game No Life
So. This was the first ever anime that I ever watched. It was a random recomendation from a friend. Look at where we are today.
This show is honestly just so fun. The characters are silly and the whole plot is just absolute chaos. I really enjoy the games aspect and how it was all incorporated into the world.
I can't even really say much about it. It is just a guilty pleasure of mine and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Also. Please can it just get a second season already.
5
Assassination Classroom
So. Unlike everything else on the list - this one I only finished really recently. My partner and I were watching it together. And to put it out there straight away. I cried. That ending was far too emotional.
I really enjoyed the humour throughout the whole thing as well as the constant underlying dread of the whole situation.
They also really played out Koro-senseis backstory really well. The teasing to it was excellent. I must say though that one of the twists seriously came out of left field. Like damn.
I've just recently bought the boxset and am reading through the manga. Once again. It's absolutely amazing.
Also the openings of them all jumping are absolutely fucking hilarious and you can't tell me otherwise.
If you want to know what officially sold me on the show was just in the first episode. (Note we watched in dub)
Don't ask me why but I found this to be the most hilarious thing ever. The absurdity and the line delivery was magnificent. I annoy my partner by quoting it atleast once a day.
4
Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan
Speaking of comedies. This show has no right to be this good. The absudist dead pan comedy in the middle of whats meant to be a TV show is such a random premise but just works so well.
Due to the nature of the show, the characters are extremely relateable. I especially love Kumatani and Kikaku.
If your on the same side of anime tiktok that I am then you have definitely seen/heard snippets of the dub.
I think this was the first anime that I originally watched in sub and then tried it in dub and actually enjoyed it. (I often find that whatever I originally watched it in is the only one I can watch it in - it's very difficult for me to change it)
The voice acting on both sides just works perfectly for the show. And that final episode and how they did it was the best thing ever.
Please just give it a try.
3
Angel Beats
Okay. Time for a hard hitter. This comedy like assassintaion classroom is fucking excellent but will make you cry, like damn.
In complete and utter contrast to No game no life, this was the second anime I had ever watched. I had found a video that gave some suggestions and thought I would give this one a try. When I say it destoryed me, I mean it literally. I constantly think about the end of this and I absolutely love revisiting it.
The twist and turns along the way are fascinating and I love how each one alters the characters and the narrative. Each of the characters feel unique - even the lesser developed side characters - with fascinating and complex backstories.
The whole thing just makes you question your own place in life.
2
Moriarty the Patriot
Another one I just randomly tried because I saw a video on tiktok. The first episode immediately pulled me in. I thought it was just going to be some simple detective story (At the time I didn't know much about Sherlock Holmes and who Moriaty was so I didn't have any of that to guide me into this story.) But nope.
I keep saying this but in this one I really mean it. The characters are built so well. The dichotomy between William and Sherlock - as the fandom would probably agree - is just amazing. How they bounce off of each other - i don't even know how to really descirbe it.
Honestly just go watch it.
And if you enjoyed the anime - please go check out the manga too. If the anime was done well - then the manga is done to lamost perfection.
This show was what got me into reading and then eventually buying manga. I now have every single one that is out.
1
Yuri!!! on ICE
Did I make the title gay? Yes.
Okayyyyy. This is just going to be me going on about how much I love this show. Bare with me.
So I was in an anime watching slump just before I picked up this show. I had been seeing some videos popping up talking about it and decided to give it a try (this was in 2020)
I immediately fell in love with this show. Literally everything about it. I ended up rewatching it three times over the course of a week. It got to a point where I was so upset that there wasn't more content for it that I just cried for half a day. (Ask my partner - it was chaos)
This show is the reason I now read fanfiction - all because I found a way to technically have more content for it.
This show holds such an important place in my heart that I sincerely cannot express it properly.
If you've never watched it - go give it a try. It would mean a lot - and hopefully one day we might get a season two.
----
Thanks for reading, if you managed to get to this point. I find it interesting how my explanations managed to slowly get shorter throughout the list as I just started becoming more emotional than factual.
I hope you enjoyed it and maybe grabbed a recommendation or two. If you'd like to know more or hear me ramble on more about anything in particular then please let me know.

Recurtains on Assassination Classroom
I first watched Assassination Classroom 6 or 7 years ago. All i remembered from it was an overwhelming feeling of bitterness. As i rewatched it yesterday, i found myself thinking "hey, this is not that bad" and "i've seen more anime now, there's a lot i wasn't able to appreciate back then". And yet, now that all is said and done, i don't feel any less bitter. The "overwhelming" part is what's changed, i've seen more premises squandered, more endings pathetically fumbled, especially in shonen. This sort of stuff is just par for the course now. But the bitterness didn't go away.
I actually think Assassination Classroom has good themes and overall narrative. Really good themes, in fact. Too good themes. "Children need to grow up and be educated in a safe environment where they feel they feel valued and are motivated by their own intrinsic interest", the whole "prepare them for life, don't throw them into it", it's great. It's incorporated in unique ways in most characters throughout the entire show. But… The show is called "Assassination Classroom". I came here to see assassination, not just some kids being overprotected by a benevolent omnipotent giant octopus. The entire reason why the show happens is that Koro decided "I'm going to stop killing and try to use my skills for good instead". If the kids are put into danger or risk too often, at some point the viewers would ask "aren't they going through this much danger only because Koro decided to teach them?" and at that point the themes would shatter. So the kids are only allowed to ever really use their training in a few select arcs, otherwise Koro or Karasuma are always there to single handedly save the day. By the second half of season 2 the kids are completely pulling their punches and aren't even trying to kill Koro anymore. So where is the Assassination at that point? They should've just called it "Classroom".
This ultimately culminates in the ending which goes by with the kids doing absolutely jack shit for the whole arc. Koro is cool, but he wasn't who the story was about. It was about the kids, about them getting picked up from a bad spot, discovering themselves and finding their path in life. And yet in that final arc they did absolutely nothing. Actually, they took down the japanese military, who were literally just guarding the perimeter and then they just watched as Koro battled a giant monster all by himself. They didn't even cheer for him or anything, just stood there, mouth open, thinking "damn, we suck". The only one who tried anything was Kaede who went "yo, watch this" and then immediately got impaled with almost comedic timing. Congratulation Kaede, you at least tried. The bad guy's entire motivation was just being an asshole, and then, when he got beat, Koro just laid down and let himself be killed. Just so the kids can say "we did it". I think it makes a lot of sense for his character that he would just let himself die, but the problem is for the kids who've been complaining the whole time that "it just ain't right" if someone else kills him without them getting to prove themselves, only for him to die with basically no effort of their own. It's a disgusting ending.
Despite this rather shitty finale, overall Assassination classroom was... fine. It did well characterizing such a large main cast in the time it had, even if a few slipped through the cracks. The animation was efficient, the OPs were unique. I watched the dub and the voice acting started a bit scuffed, but quickly improved to be pretty good. It seemed to have a lot of rewriting work behind it and didn't hesitate to drop some "fuck"s and "shit"s and a lot of "bitch"s, which is always a pleasure to my swear-loving ears. Also, the principal was super funny. One of his teenage students said "you should be nicer to your son" and he answered by taking off his vest and saying "fight me". Bro is a riot.

Assassination Classroom Season 1 & 2
Genre: Action, Comedy, Sci-fi
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review:
“Assassination Classroom” is a science fiction and comedy manga series created by Yūsei Matsui. Lerche produced the anime, which aired from January 2015 to June 2016. It follows the daily lives of a mighty tentacled alien creature, known as Korosensei, working as a junior high homeroom teacher and his students, who are dedicated to assassinating him to prevent Earth from being eliminated (Yerramaneni, 2020).

Spoiler alert: If you have not seen the anime yet, please exit this post now, as the following paragraphs will unveil the synopsis for both season 1 and season 2.
Season 1 of “Assassination Classroom” has a very engaging plot, and the characters are likeable. The series starts lighthearted and simple but becomes a rollercoaster of emotions as the story unfolds. The show tells the story of these junior high kids as they sharpen their assassination skills to confront their life problems, the oppressive school system, and, one day – the undefeatable Koro-sensei. I believe this season hits close to home, especially for those still studying in high school. The reason is that it shows the discrimination last class students faced. They were expected to be violent and slow-witted, while first-class students were featured as intelligent yet arrogant. Besides, the school also prioritized and praised first-class students while assigning the ones in the last class to do the dirty work of assassinating Korosensei.
Fortunately, my experience, in reality, is not as bad as the anime depiction because I did not recall any last-class students from my high school committing murder or any crime. Yet, I like this season as it encourages me to make friends with individuals, including my teachers, with different interests or personalities from me. As such, this season is a catalyst for inspiring me to come out of my shell and interact with others.

Next, I think season 2 of “Assassination Classroom” is even better than season 1. All the strengths of this series are still here, but they are greatly amplified - great humour, highly lovable characters, great chemistry between said characters, and a thrilling plot. The collection still contains all the best elements of the first season: good-quality animation mixed with equally good voice acting. Assassination Classroom does not fall into the old trap of only focusing on one or two students, but all the students get their chance to shine.
However, season 2 is the one that made me cry with tears of joy and sadness. When Class 3-E students' graduation was around the clock, the deadline for their mission to assassinate Korosensei was also near. Given how deeply the students have gotten attached to Korosensei, especially Nagisa, the top assassin in the class, it was even painful to watch the scene in which Korosensei comforted all of them and said his final goodbyes before Nagisa reluctantly delivered the final blow. Tears were streaming down my face nonstop when the music played.
Despite the iconic heartbreaking moment season 2 had, “Assassination Classroom” is my ultimate comfort anime series. Whether you are a fan of action or comedy, this series always has a place for you.

Omg Cupid Parasite!! That's one of my favourite otome games because of how funny and unhinged it can be. If you do get around to playing it please tell us about your experience as much as possible(lol).
I love, love your writing Mera!! I am lowkey obsessed with your blog and the way you manage to come up with so many ideas and execute them so nicely. I'm very curious to know how what your journey was to becoming a writer. What pieces of fiction inspired you to start writing? Do you have any favourite novels? Also, do you think you'd ever want to publish your own novels someday? If so, what genre would you most want to delve into? Hope I'm not bombarding you with questions😭😭
You can count on it, anon!!! (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ I will gladly share the full experience once I buy and play through it. >w< Meraki Game Review!!!!!
AAAAA thank youuuuUUUU!!!! T^T <3 I'm so happy you enjoy my writing and blog!!!!!!! Also,,, thank you for being curious about my writing journey!! :D you're not bombarding me with questions at all!! I love to ramble about writing hehe.
✧ what pieces of fiction inspired you to start writing?
A lot of fantasy and adventure novels! I used to read those genres obsessively when I was little. The first story I ever wrote was an adventure plot for a school assignment. It was 17 pages and even illustrated by yours truly lol. The page limit was 1-2, but eight-year-old Meraki couldn't tell a story in such short page length! I remember I used a piano bench as my table and I didn't stop writing and drawing until I was finished. I would snack on cucumber slices during the process. Even though it's such a random memory, I cherish it dearly because it was the first time I realized I was genuinely passionate about storytelling.
Anime/manga was also another big inspiration! In my early teenage years, I loved shows like Assassination Classroom, Black Butler, Watamote, Owari no Seraph, Pandora Hearts, Danganronpa, HETALIA. Omg,,,, what an era that was.........
Reading yan oc stories also inspired me to write yandere fics!! Before writing yan fandom, I wrote a lot of yandere ocs. They are my most beloveds. I adore my ocs. ( ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ഒ
✧ do you have any favorite novels?
I do! I love the Red Eye series. It's a collection of various horror novels. I read them a lot in my early teenage years. They're all wonderfully written. So much atmosphere in each one! I really enjoy YA literature, especially YA horror. There are plenty of other novels (lots of horror classics), but I can't seem to recall all of them at the moment. ;;;; orz too many to keep up with...
✧ do you think you'd ever want to publish novels someday?
YES. OTL it's been my dream ever since I was little. I've always wanted to publish a novel.
✧ what genre would you delve into?
Definitely horror/thriller! I'd also like to write a fantasy/adventure series. I have plenty of novel plots/concepts and wips, so there is definitely plenty of material to work with.

I know you write little reviews for the manga you have finished, but can you explain a bit what bothered you about the manga you won’t continue as well, pls?
Haha, sure. I don't do that normally just because I feel it might be a bit of a buzzkill thing to do, particularly to the people who rec'd some of the series to me. I sincerely don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, and please know that I'm always grateful to hear about and to check out new series, even if they don't end up being for me or are simply not my personal taste.
I think my reason for DNFing a manga usually boils down to either (1) the premise/characters just weren't hooking me enough to invest the time in finishing it, or (2) I felt too old for it in some way... I'll quickly run down the ones I've crossed out so far + why I DNF'd them, though :
The Heart of Thomas: it was just a bit too melodramatic and depressing to me to want to read the whole thing, I believe
Dear Brother: I have a bit of a squick/hair trigger cringe reflex when it comes to flirtatious and romantic vibes between siblings and other family members in fiction, and this manga seemed to be based almost entirely around that, so I just didn't want to finish the whole thing haha
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: I read quite a bit of this one before DNFing it, actually. There are lots of things to love and appreciate about it and I definitely see why it's iconic. but it's just SO LONG, and a bit too heavily based purely on silly fighting to interest me very deeply
Yu-Gi-Oh!: I just wasn't super interested in the premise, and it felt a bit too little kiddish for me to be getting into it freshly right now (I never watched it growing up)
Revolutionary Girl Utena: Love the aesthetic and the idea of it, but the execution just left a lot to be desired story-wise for me for some reason? I didn't really fall in love with any of the characters that much, and my squick about romantic dynamics between family members was coming into play a bit too much as well
Haru wo Daiteita: the translation I was reading wasn't great and the premise itself was just a bit uncomfortable for me, I think? Like dub con type stuff was going on that just wasn't enjoyable for me to read
Fruits Basket: I found the main character a bit overly perfect in a boring way, I also felt a bit too old to be getting freshly into it now, and the premise with the Zodiac animals and such just didn't really grab my imagination in any big way
Ouran High School Host Club: Another one I felt too old to be getting freshly into now, and the premise was just not one that captivated me
Tokyo Ghoul: I thought the way the main character became a half-ghoul was really lazily written in the first volume, which made me lose interest in continuing with it
Assassination Classroom: It wasn't bad or anything, it was actually pretty funny, but I simply found it too young for me and a bit too completely goofy to feel like reading the entire thing
Moriarty the Patriot: I found the Victorian setting a bit too fake and unbelievable, thought it felt a bit too young for me as well, and just wasn't hugely into the vibes of the whole thing
Vampeerz: The art was really cute and the premise was something relevant to my interests, but I found the writing and tone a bit too inconsistent and the characters a bit too young for me to really want to continue reading that far in

daiya no ace anime reflection/review
**spoilers!!**
im at a point in my life where i have a lot of free time at the end of the day and i find myself filling that slot with anime.
for the past two weeks, ace of the diamond has taken up a big portion of my mind as i found myself falling in love with the team and its players.
about a month ago was when i started a roll on watching sports anime. i caught up on haikyuu, binged blue lock and ao ashi, and finally spent another good chunk of time on free!!. ace of the diamond was no new title to me, yet for some reason i kept it on the back burner. i dont know why; whether it was the art style, the then-seemingly long list of episodes, or the fact that it was baseball. maybe it was all of them. when i burned myself out trying to find another anime, i finally settled on giving DnA a chance.
today, as i have finished all 176 episodes (no OVAs yet!) i confidently say it's one of my top, if not the top, anime ive seen so far.
i noted a few things as i progressed through the series: strong points, cons, favorite characters, and a few personal thoughts.
i will start off with the cons head on. daiya's is, i guess i could say, notorious? for its "annoying, loud, benchwarmer" MC. one genuine complaint i do have is the lack of animation quality in the third season. there were many still shots with voice overs, though i felt a little more satisfied with the animation towards the end. also, to a smaller extent, the anime is not as complete as the manga.
anyway, i think the slow burn is actually a strong point, as many others point out. indeed, it is the very low lows that make the highs so high. don't get me wrong, i love a stupidly powerful MC, such as mob psycho 100 or OPM, but the realism gives DnA its charm and relatability. when others say "season 1 is bad, season 2 is good, season 3 is amazing," they are not lying.
DnA's charm not only lies in its realism, but also its character development and character interactions. brotherhood, leadership, and teamwork are all themes throughout the anime. the way the third years cared for their juniors and the way the juniors fought to elongate their seniors' summers was beautiful, heart-wrenching, and gut-punching to me, a recent college graduate. these types of moments are not uncommon in sports anime, but something about DnA's execution made it so much more..emotional? relatable? whether it was due to convenient timing or the fact that the sheer amount of episodes made me feel like they were actually my own friends, i just felt so much more compelled when watching daiya.
on the topic of my personal emotions, as i said, the themes of graduating/retiring really hit home for me. but that made daiya all the more special to me. both personal relatability and just watching everyone's hard work made it so easy to sympathize with their determination. maybe it was the countless scenes of them heaving and gasping for air; or the scenes where TJ made their frustrations so visible and vulnerable. as a watcher, i did not see myself rooting for some characters in a show; normally, i'd take a normal stance with the expectations that the "of course, the MC team will win." i saw myself rooting for my friends. in addition, knowing TJ, we can never be too sure on how seido's games will actually go. everything comes down to the realism. it's daiya's realism that made me feel their passion, made them so relatable, and made it feel like they were actually at high stakes. i truly, rarely never cry when watching an anime. besides assassination classroom, no other anime has made me so emotional. not only that, but daiya made me cry several times. the amount of immersion is insane.
to no surprise, my favorite character is miyuki. he was the know-it-all. he was essentially the rock of seido with his calls. i often found myself wondering how strong seido would be without miyuki. no disrespect to ono; as he proved, and as kataoka also believes, ono is also reliable. but miyuki was just built different bro. anyway, i appreciated his character for not only baseball iq, but his rapid maturity into the captain role, and his flexibility with his juniors. i found his personality very admirable and his logical approach to situations both relatable and reliable. other characters i particularly were fond of were chris and kuramochi. if okumura had more screen time, i could also see him climbing up my list. as someone who had no prior baseball knowledge, daiya/seido as a whole, but particularly chris and miyuki, gave me a newfound respect for and fundmental understanding of baseball.
i think one last thing i wanted to note was that i really don't read manga. but for daiya, im definitely gonna pick up the manga now. i have never done this before for an anime, even others i really liked--hxh, haikyuu, one punch man, etc. i just never felt compelled to read the story further beyond the anime. but for daiya, this is something im willing to do. i just love it that much.
if you are having second thoughts or are debating on watching DnA, def watch it if you do not mind slow burn and can take a realistic approach. on the other hand, i do not recommend if you want to see an OP MC.
~
i am truly a nobody, especially not a professional anime critic LMFAO but i just wanted to vent my thoughts of daiya somewhere :) these are just my personal opinions

My Review of Ascendance of a Bookworm
Okay, time to hit up another isekai. After watching a heart-wrenching anime like 86, I need something light-hearted to watch. No…I’m not reviewing 86. Sorry. Okay, let’s get to it!
This is Myne. But not really! You see, Myne was once a librarian named Urano Motosu with a love for reading books. But an earthquake struck and she was crushed by a mountain of books. With her last breath, she wished she could be reincarnated again and read more books with her new life. Now she is reborn in a frail five-year old named Myne. Myne is in a new world, new time, and with a new family. Only thing is, she cannot obtain a single book. Books are hard to come by, especially if you aren’t a noble. And in Myne’s case, she’s at peasant level. Even materials for writing are hard to obtain.
Before one can walk, one must crawl. Myne will go through a lot in order to preserve stories on the printed page. Will this bookworm survive without reading?
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: This one strictly belonged to Crunchyroll and the dub was filled with a lot of people I don’t think I ever heard from before this. So, hearing many of these folks is kinda a new experience for me since I decided to watch the entire thing dubbed. My experience with it was okay until I hit season three. I felt a little thrown off with the pronunciation of one of the characters. Myne’s mother Effa. We clearly hear her name being pronounced as “Eva” in the first 2 seasons. Now all of a sudden, they’re changing her name’s pronunciation. Okay, sure. Why not?! Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
JAPANESE CAST: *Myne is played by Yuka Iguchi (known for Crusch on Re:Zero, Tsukihi on Monogatari, Mine on Fruits Basket 2019, Mea on To Love Ru, Yuu on Sakura Trick, and Index on Railgun/Index)
*Lutz is played by Mutsumi Tamura (known for Kobayashi on Miss Kobayashi, Kanamori on Eizouken, Ermes on Jojo’s Pt. 6, Young Jintan on Anohana, and Young Ali Baba on Magi)
*Ferdinand is played by Show Hayami (known for Juan on Pokemon AG, Aizen on Bleach, Wolfwood on Trigun, Azami on Food Wars, Gakuhou on Assassination Classroom, and Ichiya on Fairy Tail)
ENGLISH CAST: *Myne is played by Reba Buhr (known for Nikaido on Dorohedoro, Cattleya on Violet Evergarden, Aoi on Demon Slayer, and LLENN on SAO: GGO)
*Lutz is played by Jeannie Tirado (known for Norman on The Promised Neverland, Riko on Love Live Sunshine, Fana on Black Clover, Kanae on Tokyo Ghoul :re, and Zera on Fairy Tail)
*Ferdinand is played by Armen Taylor
DISLIKED CHARACTER: I think it goes without saying that I hate that high priest with a holy passion. After his unsavory debut in the first season, I wished he could have died from his injuries when Myne’s mana went haywire. Sadly, he’s still around. And whenever he shows up, nothing good can come from it. He’s the reason why Myne wound up with disrespectful retainers when she started her apprenticeship at the church. I know the high priest is the go-to punching bag for most people. I am inclined to agree. It’s mostly a bias I have against certain individuals that claim to be a servant to the lord and do shady-ass shit. Yeah, he’s right up there with the Catholic Church, Mike Pence, and Judge Claude Frollo. He’s that bad!
I would have let certain things slide in season two like giving Myne unruly retainers or petty vandalism in the library. But then season three happened and there’s just no forgiveness for what this fat fuck did. I’m just happy he’s finally going to get some much-needed comeuppance.
SHIPPING: Myne x Lutz.
*sigh* I know it’ll never happen for many, many spoilery reasons. And I know it wasn’t canon or official or anything like that. I just want to enjoy their moments in season one and somehow ignore what happens at the end of season three.
AN ANNOYANCE: At the end of each episode, there’s like a chibi/4-panel style short that airs. I wouldn’t call it a preview for the next episode as there is never any mention of what happens next. It’s just random fluff. That doesn’t bother me all that much. Yes, I realize the first season had Ferdinand shown in those moments and we were never properly introduced to this character until like 10 episodes in. What bothered me the most came during the third season. There was one of these segments where Gunther and Myne were talking and he brings up that Myne’s mother had several miscarriages prior to having Tuuli and Myne. Okay, I feel like this sort of thing could have been said during the episode and not put in the passing fancy with the end of the episode LOL fluff. That’s my take on that matter.
END OF SEASON ONE: Throughout this season, Myne has been creating certain items and catching the eye of several key people. Semi-nobles like Frieda and her family have caught wind of Myne’s hair accessories. And a gentleman by the name of Mr. Benno decides to give Myne a chance with items she creates (for the right price). Unfortunately, there’s only so much Myne can do in so much time. Myne has been sick from day one and when really sick, she’ll spend days or even weeks in bed. Mr. Benno seems to think that she has mana (that is only reserved for nobles) and it’s eating her from the inside until she dies. It’s called “the devouring”. Meanwhile, Lutz has been becoming suspicious of Myne. It’s been bugging him for quite a while, but he finally confronted her. Without letting him know about her past life, she does reveal to him that she’s not really Myne and was only Myne for over a year now. Thankfully, Lutz accepted this fact and continues to help Myne pursue her dream and current ambitions.
Myne has been revolutionizing the world she’s living in with products she was able to easily make like hair shampoo, cute hair accessories, and even sweet treats. She did sell those invention ideas, but was able to keep some for her own. On top of which, she’s inching closer and closer to getting her paper goods to be successful. It’s just that her sickness (the devouring) is getting worse and worse. Her friend Frieda was able to suppress one of her attacks one night with the use of a magical item. It’s temporary, but it helped prevent something tragic from happening this time. There’s no guarantee for next time though.
With the way things are, Myne only has one year at most to live. It was a lucky break that Myne was able to get an item because her friend is semi-royal. Unfortunately, all Frieda gets are knock-offs because she isn’t really a noble. But that can all change once her coming of age ceremony comes and becomes a concubine for a noble. Myne’s coming of age ceremony is coming up and being married off to a noble might be her one solution to surviving the devouring. For now, Myne just wants to stay with her parents and if there’s time, set up her paper-making studio with Lutz and Mr. Benno.
The day finally came for Myne to have her coming of age ceremony. At the church, Myne got intrigued by all of the ancient books, scrolls, etc. We also meet Ferdinand outside of the preview setting. He is the head priest of this church. Myne was ready to jump ship and join the church just because they had many books. Let’s just say nearly everyone in Myne’s inner circle objected to that tenfold. Her employer Mr. Benno hates to lose Myne to anyone, especially to the church. And Myne’s parents worry that being in the church can be detrimental to her health since she couldn’t live at home anymore and won’t get a steady income since only nobles in blue robes obtain that and everyone else is just a gray orphan.
Things get a little more complicated when the church learned of Myne’s devouring disease and wanted her even more. Myne is full of overflowing mana and this is something the church wants. This could work to Myne’s advantage if she gets the church to agree to her own terms. Mr. Benno told her to prioritize letting her continue with her studio works, live with her parents, and help with her health. Meeting the high priest of the church went really bad. He didn’t like the fact that Myne’s parents were not of nobility and threatened to take Myne from them by force. This led to Myne’s father beating up church guards. And then Myne went demon-possessed on them all!
Throughout this season, there were moments when Myne’s eyes would go rainbow and has this anger aura surrounding her. This would usually occur when she would get really upset or angry, like in the early episodes and she would try to make clay tablets and they got destroyed. This of course is because of the devouring. Her mana is overflowing and controlling her body. This time, this power affected the high priest by almost killing him. Ferdinand helped calm Myne down and de-escalated the situation that just went down. He agreed to all of Myne’s terms and agreements. In return, Myne will become an apprentice priestess at the cathedral. She will dawn the blue robes meant only for nobles and when she’s not doing that, she will continue to help Mr. Benno. And best of all, she could stay with her family.
Ferdinand will be there quite a bit to keep Myne in check at every moment. Especially, when she gets angry and her mana goes berserk. Because if she harms any higher-up like when she attacked the high priest, dire consequences will be passed down to Myne. But that’ll be a matter for another section of this review.
SIDE STORY: There were two short stories that were aired a month before the second season’s debut. One story was revolved around one of Ferdinand’s men from the church to spy and learn about Myne from the townspeople. The other was Myne, her sister Tulli and mother Eva visiting the fabric maker Corinna.
SEASON TWO: Myne is officially an apprentice priestess. Unfortunately, things in the church might serve to be difficult for her. The high priest has it out for her and is willing to make her life a living hell. This includes giving her retainers (Delia and Gil) that give her nothing but grief. Not just him, but everyone (excluding Ferdinand) hating on Myne because she’s not a noble, but is wearing noble clothing. Let’s just say they’re not fond that a little girl like her got to surpass many of them.
On the positive, part of her job is to read over the royal scripture. A book is a book, I guess. At least Myne made it to a point where she got her hands on the printed word, no matter what it is. Myne does get the idea to make children books during this season. Because her mother is going to have a baby in the coming months, Myne wanted to make children books with the paper goods she’s been making.
END OF SEASON TWO: Myne has to step up her game at the church to prove that she is truly worthy to wear the blue robes despite being a peasant. For starters, she has to prepare for some upcoming events that’ll require her attendance and assistance. Unfortunately, that means Myne will have to stay at the church during the duration of the winter season. That does cause a bit of a hiccup as Myne’s father is fully against it and Myne kinda wanted to stay at home a little more to help out her pregnant mother.
Myne ends up assisting Ferdinand with a mission against some out of control trombe. As demonstrated in earlier episodes, trombe can be dangerous if not controlled and cut down. Such a dangerous entity, but useful in Myne’s mission to making paper goods. This trombe however caused more trouble than normal for Myne. This time it wasn’t her fault in a sense. One of the guards Ferdinand assigned to keep Myne safe was a real shit-head and put Myne’s life in danger and lied about it. This guy put the fact that Myne’s a peasant over Ferdinand’s order. Yeah, he’s in trouble. And then Myne showed him up with the amount of mana she possesses for someone like her. After all of that, we kind of get this scene that I wondered about since I started this series.
This scene was the very first scene from the first episode of the series. Myne with something on her head and Ferdinand going to find out things once and for all. And that’s exactly it, they’re linking minds with magical items so that Ferdinand can lay his worries and fears about Myne to rest. Ferdinand got a first-hand look at what a library looks like in modern-day Japan. Myne got to see her old adult self before she died. And also, Myne almost had a breakdown after seeing her mother and wanting to say goodbye but never got the chance. That scene was pretty rough to watch, along with her hugging Ferdinand. That’s why Myne decides now to say how thankful she is for this family. Gunther, Eva, and Tuuli aren’t the family she knew back before Myne came to this world, but she’s happy for them.
Oh, and we get a scene of Ferdinand and Karstedt discussing Myne and planning to have her be adopted by a noble. Okay, that’ll be a story for season three.
SEASON THREE: Things take a bit of a violent turn in the first episode. In the previous season, Myne was seen asking about alternate inks for the book she wanted to make. The ink guild saw the book and got serious. They came to Benno’s shop and were very scary. And then, these ruffians assaulted Lutz in the street. It is now best that Myne have her winter stay at the church happen now. Meanwhile, it looks as though one of her own retainers can’t be trusted…AGAIN! It’s Delia. Of course, it’s Delia. Gil’s on Team Myne and its going to stay that way. Delia on the other hand is an informant for the high priest.
Myne’s life is about to get a little worrisome. Ferdinand told her that he thinks that Karstedt should adopt her and it was met with harsh rejection from Myne. Ferdinand decided it is best that at age 10 she be adopted by a noble. And at that age if she isn’t under the care of a noble, she will be at risk due to her amount of mana and everything she’s done up to this point.
ENDING: This season we’ve seen the good and the bad. I’ll start with the good. The book that Myne came up with was finally done. She had a lot of help from her retainers, the children from the orphanage, and other allies in the church. Myne was able to spend some quality time with her family as this may be the last years she can be with them. Along with that, the birth of her baby brother Kamil was worth celebrating. But then we delve into the seriousness here when an orphaned baby comes to the church and has the devouring disease like Myne, things take quite the turn for the worst. The high priest is at it again really causing trouble for Myne and just being an all-around fat dick. The high priest invited a noble man to take the baby and use him as a servant. Then, force Myne into a contract.
This plan led to Myne almost being kidnapped, Tulli almost being killed, Delia being deceived, Gunther and Fran injured, and an all-around magic showdown at the church. Myne went into berserk mode when her friends and father were injured by the high priest and this dick-head noble that wants to use Myne’s mana for his selfish wants. It wasn’t until Ferdinand came in the room that things settled. Unfortunately, Myne assaulted the high priest and a noble. They overlooked that crime at the end of season one when her mana caused her to go berserk. This time, Myne, Gunther, Fran, and the rest were to receive punishment for this. But a twist arose.
During this season, Myne met a man named Sylvester. He’s a bit eccentric and can be a bit of a headache. But he gave Myne a charm to form a blood seal if she were to come into trouble. What she didn’t know was that this blood seal was to form a contract with Sylvester. This means instead of being adopted by Karstedt in two years, Myne is to be adopted by Sylvester right now. If this happens, Myne and everyone else will avoid punishment because her status as Sylvester’s daughter will surpass that of the high priest and dick-head noble. Myne agrees. Add to the surprises, Sylvester is the lord of the land, the nephew to the high priest, and half-brother to Ferdinand. Sylvester laid down some much-needed punishment here as that shady noble was to be incarcerated and the high priest got the death sentence for harming Myne.
Sylvester made it official, but with some unfortunate terms. Myne is to be adopted by Sylvester. She will be a noble officially. However, she is to give up her name and her family. She will no longer be known as Myne and the commoner known as Myne will be legally dead. She may never again be with her father, mother, sister, and brother again. If they were to see Myne, they must treat her like a noble and not like a part of the family. Myne’s company and work will continue as paper goods and books are necessary. Myne will now and forever be known as Rozemyne. Rozemyne swears that she will protect those she loves and gives them a special blessing before bidding them goodbye.
This is the end of Myne’s tale as you see with her tombstone. But Rozemyne’s story is just beginning.
We just don’t know because nothing has been green-lit as of yet. But we got a “To Be Continued” at the end. That’s hopeful!
Oh, I loved this anime. I think this was one of my favorite Isekais to come as of recent. Probably up there with Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero.
I’m going to go off a bit on something I was pondering about for a long time and how I feel about it. This mostly has to do with the story itself and not the anime at all. During season two, I got curious and read some spoilers. Once I finished season two, I really got upset that Myne was to be adopted by nobles and have all communication from her family cut off. The reason behind me being so upset is because at the end of season two, we got that sad scene where Myne is back in her modern world in her original body and her wanting to say something to her mother before she dies. So, learning about Myne’s separation from Gunther and Effa made me really upset. Myne was distraught remembering her mother in the previous life and swore to always say that she loved Effa. But now that I sat through season three, am I still upset by the circumstances? Hell yeah. But I understand that there really was no happy outcome where all parties could be satisfied. Myne was still going to be adopted whether now or in two years like originally planned.
Never mind me prattling on about this crap about adoption. This has been a fun watch and an educational one too. Isekais can get creative with new languages, items, and customs. I always enjoy learning about new worlds in anime. But not just that, I learn something new when Myne brings up something invented in her original world. We learn something new every day. By the looks of things, the light novel is still in publication, so I expect to see more content with Rozemyne and her continuing ambitions surrounding the printed word. Anyways, full recommendation from me!
If you would like to watch Ascendance of a Bookworm, Crunchyroll has every episode (along with the side stories and recaps) available to stream.
Man, I hate to think what I’m going to watch next. The anime following this one must be fucking bullshit.
It is.
*gasps* FINALLY! I GET TO WATCH IT!!!
*This stupidity aside, Medea is really enjoying Carole and Tuesday*

Nine People Tag Game
I was tagged by @windwardstar. Thankie Osie :>
Rules: Answer the questions below & tag nine people to do the same.
Tagging (no obligation to answer, of course, this is just for fun): @partialdignity, @lovingempress, @abalisk, @the8thsphynx, @teddog, @exmeowstic, @caprisodas, @chiefladylightyay, and @withanina, maybe?
3 Ships: (stares off into the distance in brief confusion) Um. Not counting fanfic stuff for a minute to wake myself up from social fatigue...
Akira Tounome and Yakou Shizuka from The Invisible Man and his Soon-To-Be Wife (I found the first volume of this manga as a happy accident at Barnes and Noble, haven't looked back since)
Shoko Komi and Hitohito Tadano from Komi Can't Communicate
Anis and Euphie from The Magical Revolution of a Reincarnated Princess and a Genius Young Lady
Currently listening to: YOASOBI's The Blessing and Assassination Classroom's Bye Bye Yesterday. Since I've been trying to write for Da Vinci Rider/Lily and those were the songs I chose for her chapter in Passing Days.
Last movie: ...The second compilation movie of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, or Gundam 0079 on Netflix. Because it's easier to watch them over the TV series in terms of time investment. And with both my rl Robin and Achi loving the lore of the original Universal Century of Gundam, I wanted to get into it. Somehow.
Currently reading: Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory and The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi in terms of things that aren't manga/light novels. Because Fate had me get curious about the history too.
Currently watching: Um... (stares at my open browser tabs) Why do I have Fate/Extra Last Encore up again when I hate Deadface Hakuno... oh. It's the only speaking, animated role of Robin. Of course. And I needed comfy white noise for FGO grinding and rest.
Currently consuming: My last meal earlier today was vegetarian ham prepared with Singapore-style noodles, courtesy of mom. Every time I eat her cooking, I feel very blessed knowing she's willing to cook and pack my work lunches to this day.
Currently craving: ...The energy to draw seriously again. Because the last sketch I tried is half-finished and it looks like crap to me. Not to mention how I wanna write Oberon since I finished LB6, but the words for Da Vinci's chapter aren't coming by. Not to mention Naruto for CP/Civilian Pianist and S&S/The Sea and Stars. AND reviewing for Lang! And CLS applications. I need to start those. Like seriously.

Language: Eng & Traditional Chi | 語言:英+繁中
I’m going to post in both Traditional Chinese and English.
I’m from HK. English is my second language, and writing is my weak point cough, in both languages, cough :D Warming up to the idea of expressing through words :) I tend to write in Eng more than Chi, that’s why I wrote this ‘manifesto’ in Eng…
BUUUUT here’s the thing, I watch anime with Chi subtitles and only read Chi online novels 🥴 (Eng novels are printed books from PJO to HP, Lord of the Flies to The Landlady, online … well does fanfics count)
I did consider Cantonese, as that’s my native tongue and it is in desperate (?) need of conservation and promotion. Yet, I’d like to reach more audience, so Chinese seems to be more probable 🤔.

Why did I write this 'manifesto'? Cringe…| 寫'宣言'幹嘛,不尬嘛?
🙈 ha… slightly cringe cough . I saw Ali Abdaal suggested the first post of a channel can be explaining what people will get from this and why I started this. This sets as a lighthouse for future me and verbalising an intention has been proven to be important in maintaining motivation. This seems applicable to blogging too so I wrote this.
That’s all for now! Thanks for reading through. if you think you would like to chat about Anime and Online novels, or find it funny to follow the growth of an absolute beginner blogger, Like this post and Follow me :)

Spy Classroom [First Ep Impression]
First Impression: Mary Sue meets Gary Stu!
Review: If I'm quite honest, there isn't much I can say yet about this anime. The first episode shows us the travel of Lily, alias Flower Garden, to her new school after she graduated 'early' from her current one after 8 years of training in which she showed no signs of having a promising future as a spy. When she arrives to the school, she discovers that her classmates are all in similar situations and they will all receive classes from the Best Spy In The World, all so they can participate in what is considered a suicide mission in the future.
Now, the premise sounds good. We could have an Assassination Classroom-like anime in which the girls have to improve themselves to defeat their master, or something more dramatic in which the girls have to put their lives on a stake for the sake of the mission, a "learn or die" kind of environment.
However, what this first episode shows us is... The story of a cheerful girl that never gives up and wants to unite the classroom. There was a point in which the anime finally seemed to show its true nature, with Lily attempting to murder her master because she doesn't want to be a sacrificial pawn, showing us that she's the sole survivor of a town that was raided with poison and killed everyone--except her, who's immune to poison. But then turns out that the master knew that she was trying to kill him and planned a counter measure for that, because if this episode tries to focus on something, other than how cheerful our main girl is, is that Klaus, the teacher, is absolutely perfect and perfection comes to him as easy as breathing does for regular humans.
Something Noteworthy: The girls' designs are cute, too bad we didn't get too see much of them.
Also, if a girl in my class went alone with the teacher on a "date" and then she suddenly became the class leader, I certainly would think that something is going on there.
Expectations: While at first I was hoping for some more action packed story, this episode has shown me that this will very likely be a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime with each episode focusing on each girl probably.
Will I keep up?: 3 episode rule, I will see if it catches my interest with that.

➀ I’m into anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, Assassination Classroom, Gintama, Haikyuu, Chainsaw Man, etc.. I used to watch a ton of it, but nowadays, I tend to stick with the popular shows or re-watch my old favorites. I also love watching movies and lately, I’ve started writing my reviews on letterboxd. I love The Conjuring universe anyways. ^^
➁ I play Genshin Impact. And even though I don’t play it anymore, I’ve played Honkai Star Rail, MLBB, PUBGM, Honkai Impact, Resident Evil 3, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, etc.
➂ I love Korean RnB (dosii, Dvwn, LEEHEESANG, jeebanoff, Colde, and many more).
