1. The Way I Feel by Keane

This is a song I just recently started listening to because I heard it at my job & I couldn’t quite hear it properly but I liked the beat & tempo & a lot of other stuff so I looked it up & properly listening to it the first time was like getting a sucker punch in the heart because it’s just SO GODDAMN RELATABLE. It literally felt like someone wrote a song about my life & current mental state 🥲

2. Crossfire by Brandon Flowers

Another song I heard at my job but this one comes with a funny story…. So the part that really hooked me (aside from the music itself) is part of the chorus when he’s singing “lay your body down” over & over again BUT since I was at work I could never tell what the hell he was saying & as a result, could not look up the song using the lyrics so my only hope was to use the Shazam feature on Snapchat. But of course just when I’ve decided that I want to find out the name of the song, I don’t hear it again for another two weeks ( just like that one item you see all over your room all the time and then when you actually need it & go looking for it, it’s nowhere to be found). My job plays the same playlist over & over again so I knew I would hear it again eventually but in the meantime I was being HAUNTED by the mere fragment of a song & it was driving me crazy. Finally, after what seemed like AGES of not hearing the song, I heard the familiar chorus during a slow moment at work & immediately scrambled for my phone so I could open up Snapchat & utilize the Shazam feature but it kept telling me “no music detected” so I tried holding my phone up (since the speakers are practically on the ceiling) but right at that moment some guests walk in & I had to (literally) throw my phone away… & while dealing with these guests I managed to hear part of a verse (“Tell the devil that he can go back from where he came”) so I tried desperately to cling to this lyric so I can look it up after the guests leave but my stupid ADHD brain forgot everything except for “the devil” 🙃😭😭 obviously I did eventually find out what song it was but HOLY SHIT was it a freaking process 😫

3. Hundreds of Stories by Lin Manuel Miranda & Olga Merediz

In the Heights is my favorite musical of all time & I love it so so so so much…. I don’t think I’m capable of accurately articulating just how much I love it so I won’t even try. I’ll just say that I love Lin Manuel Miranda so much for giving the world a musical where my people take center stage & the Latin American community as a whole is so gloriously celebrated. I just recently had the honor of watching a local production of the Original Broadway version & it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen 🥹🥰 I chose this song specifically because it’s one of the six that were excluded from the movie adaptation (which made me really sad but I still love that movie despite all the differences).

4. Ojitos Lindos by Bad Bunny & Bomba Estéreo

Listing this one in honor of the Bad Bunny concert I attended last week which was F**KING AMAZING 😭😭���� That man really knows how to put on a show 🤩🤩 This song is from his latest album which has a little bit of everything sprinkled in it…. It’s got songs to make you dance, songs to make you cry, he’s got us feeling the full spectrum of emotion with his album. This one in particular is a beautiful love song that makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside whenever I hear it 🥰

5. Drippin by Rafael Casal, Daveed Diggs & SOB X RBE

I really like listening to this song on my way to my stupid customer service job because of the lyrics. Most notably, “I ain’t a killer, but don’t push me” & my personal favorite, “I ain't a killer, but fuck it, pop, pop, (pop, pop)” & listening to it on the way home from work makes it feel cathartic….. If you haven’t already, I HIGHLY recommend you watch the movie Blindspotting. It is a very powerful film that makes me cry every time I watch it. & if you like the film, chances are you’ll like the spin off tv series as well. & For those who are fans of rap, I’d definitely recommend the Miles AND Collin EPs 👌🏽👌🏽

I think I rambled about something similar before?

But FAHC Gavin with mafia ties and little cousin (by blood or close enough they might as well be?) Fiona.

Random series of events lands Gavin in Los Santos where he falls in with the Fakes. Everything’s nice and normal for a while until word on the street is someone put a hit out on Gavin/hired some big time hitman to deal with him.

Which to be fair isn’t a rare occurrence because Gavin?

But whoever is after him now is impressively good - nearly kills him a few times to the point Ryan’s got this grudging respect them, right?

Like, sure.

He’s not thrilled about someone out to kill Gavin (again) becasue that’s his Gavin - mutual pining or established relationship, idk - but he can still appreciate their skill and suchlike, you know?

Meanwhile Gavin goes off on his own for a bit - the crew is super not a fan of that, what with the everything going on - and comes back with Fiona.

Fearless, doesn’t give a fuck Fiona who is super unimpressed with the Vagabond and other such dorkfaces in the crew? And they’re all ??? becasue what even, and then, uh.

Shenanigans in which Gavin mentions he and Fiona kind of grew up together and that she’s totes trustworthy? But also Fiona being suspcious as hell, dropping little hints here and there about the mafia and being part of it and does Gavin just not know????

Fiona kind of terrifying the others becasue while she’s oddball Fiona at times, she’s also an incredbile shot and fond of knives and other deadly things too?

Also bullies Gavin (and select others in the crew) about like whoah and no one can get a straight answer as how Gavin and Fiona know one another. (The two of them take turns making up increasingy wild and improbable stories to fuck with the others.)

But then Gavin (and Fiona?) get grabbed and everyone else is !!! because oh, no, danger!!1!

Rush to the rescue only to find Gavin and Fiona and a lot of dead bodies and then get the story about how Fiona was meant to bea Gavin’s bodyguard and all when he took over for his grandfather, but things didn’t go quite as planned?

Gavin going to Los Santos for “business” and getting tangle up with the Fakes to the point he ~quit the mafia (Fiona rolling her eyes because yeah, that was a Thing) and everyone else just,

”Wait. Is that even a thing?Can you just quit the mafia?”

Which, kind of sort of no? But Gavin made quite the case for it at the time.

(True Love and also threats to burn the whol thing to the ground if they went after his idiot boyfriend and crew, but he was more than willing to look after the mafia’s interests in Los Santos so long as they don’t conflict with the is crew and so on.)

Fiona being slated to take over instead, but not being keen on it herself, and then the thing with someone wanting Gavin dead. Having to do with his mafia ties and lines of inheritance and Fiona eithe rbeing sent to protect Gavon or deciding to do so herself and then other shenanigans?

And, like.

Everyone being “Wait, what?” becuase the thing about Gavin’s ties to the mafia and leaving all that behind for Ryan and the idiot crew and also why did none of this come up before?

To which Gavin is just, “Uh I thought you knew?”

He’s never brought itt up, but he also hasn’t deliberately tried to hide it, you know?

But because he’s so Gavin no one considered he had ties to the mafia even though it’s the only reason for some of the reactions people have had to him in the past?

They just thought oh, the speaking Italian thing is due his his grandfather he mentions a fair bit. And he worked with Burnie and the Roosters for a bit there before Geoff wooed him to Los Santos, so that’s probably why some people were oh, shit when they ran into him and so on.

And then, uh.

Fiona joining the crew becasuse of course she does. (Official reason they give to the mafia side is to act as Gavin’s bodyguard/oversee mafia’s interests in Los Santos and such, but really it’s for crew shenanigans.

Also to terrorize the others/Ryan and wreak havoc with Gavin for shits and giggles.

TMNT 2k12

I’ve had such an upsurge of my TMNT 2012 content as of late haha. I wonder why? Did interest get renewed and I just never noticed? Meh. Anyways!

my all-time ultimate fave character: April O’Neil

a character I didn’t used to like but now do: Hmm… that’s a good question. Slash maybe? IDK.

a character I used to like but now don’t: I still like him, but I grew more and more frustrated with Mikey as the show went on until by the time it was over I was just done with his lack of maturity/infantilizing in and out of universe

a character I’m indifferent about: Pretty much all of Shredder’s henchmen. Some started interesting like Fishdface and Tiger Claw, then just became one-dimensional by the end. Bebop and Rocksteady wertre probably the most entertaining, but them being brought baack robbed the other Foot Clan villaina and Stockman was just utterly wasted. Karai no longe rbeing a villain really robbed the Foot Clan any remaining depth.

a character who deserved better: April due to her plotline ultimateley being left open-ended with no resolution and Splinter if you’re aware of how everything with him ultimateley ended.

a ship I’ve never been able to get into: Pretty much any Mikey pairing. Him with Renet was cute, but Renet only appeared like… what? Three or so times? So that wasn’t much. Shinigami… IDK what they were even trying to do and they gave up on it almost instantly. Honestly I think Mikey is too immature to have a romantic relationship so I’m not in favor of most ships with him.

a ship I’ve never been able to get over: Probably the only one I’m still a fan of is Yoshi/Tang-Shen.

a cute, low-key ship: Raph/Mona. The other ship I’m still a fan of. No overdone pining that takes too long or teenaged stupidity, they just go for it with them and I love it. It works well for Raph’s character as well, he can at least brag that he has the most successful love life after watching Leo and Donnie be stupid XD

an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it: None I can think of. Maybe Apritello? IDK if it’s still popular or not, but you eeither loved it or hated it back when the show was airing. It has it’s issues witht he execution and how it ultimateley ended unresolved. But it’s still cute and I still love their relationship espcially when Donnie became better at handeling his feelings.

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: Are there any that became canon that I have issues with? Hmm… none come to mind.

my favourite storyline/moment: Storyline… hmm, IDK. My favorite episode is still The Invasion because a few bits aside, they got everything right int hat episode. The build-up, the tension, the action, the emotions,t he sense of dread as everything that we knew and cared for came crumbling down… it’s still the best episode(s) in the entire series. Which I feel the seocnd half of S3 REALLY mitigated it’s impact, but I’ll rant about that when I hopefully do that Ten Year Revisit series I want to do for TMNT.

a storyline that never should have been written: The Space Arc. A lotof S4’s issues could have been soloved had they just not done the space arc at all, or focused S5 on the Foot Clan front insterad of ending it at S4 and filling S5 with dide-stories. I have a theory as to whyt hat happened, but regardless the Space Arc ruined what should have been the biggest seaosn of the show as the main story reached it;s conclusion, but mad eit feel crammed and rushed as a result. Which we’d lost a lot of good stuff like the last three episodes of S3, the Aeon Crystal subplot, and Fugitoid, but if losing them allowed for a better story then that’s worth losing.

my first thoughts on the show: When TMNT 2012 premiered, I was in a huge slump. Aside form Wild Kratts, The Penguins of Madagascar TV series, and The Legend of Korra I had lost faith in animation. CN, Nick, and Disney had mostly lost my interest (CN I was especially angry at due to the CN Real situation) though Nick had regianed some faith cause of Penguins and LoK, Disney’s films while improving hadn’t regained my faith due to the CGI switch (I hadn’t seen Tangled yet), and RL matters at the time were giving me less and less time to be invested in it. I was more interest in classical animation and was pretty much set on staying there aside from the shows I previously mentioned. I put it on TMNT 2012’s premiere because nothing else was on and at the very least I could enjoy hearing Rob Paulsen. I was blown away. The animaiton, the fights, the characters, the voice acting, it was the best thing I had seen in a looong time. It was the first time I got up to see new episode premiered in years. I was new to Tumblr by then so I was able to ge tinvolved int he fandom very quickly, which really defined my Tumblr career. It was just so cool and I loved it~!

my thoughts now: The show was great, but not without it’s issues. It’s so much easier to realize and point them out now that it’s over and the euphoria has long since worn off. I gave up on it around mid-S4. I stopped watching the premieres and just slowed down until by S5, I’d oretty much stopped all together. My interest was dead. Int he early days I couldn’t imagine life without the show. But by then I was fully into othershows/fandoms and thus I had no problems washing my hands clean of TMNT 2012. Does that mean I hate the show? No. I still have all my DVD’s and comics, as I said I’m planning a 10 year series, and regardless of how it ended TMNT 2012 both got me into Tumblr/fandom culture (for better and worst) and renewed my love for animaiton. Hell it single-handedly made me go form hating CGI that wasn’t Pixar and blaming it for animaiton’s downfall to realizing how misguided that belief was and becoming more open-minded. TMNT 2012 was a huge part of my life, and I’m grateful for that.

“Seriously?” She nodded, with a look that said, ‘yes seriously’ making him laugh a little, “For someone who likes to belittle other people’s intelligence you can have your moments.” 

“And what the hell is that supposed to mean, Blake?” Her voice was a low snarl now, not liking to be mocked. 

“It means that Murphy would never have listened if he knew that you were one of the people calling the shots… not to mention you don’t have that older age thing going for you.” 

“So what you’re saying is that Murphy’s a sexist pig and you don’t have your facts straight.” She nodded, continuing to move again. “Fair enough.”

REFLECTIONS

As many of us have fallen further into the ruts of Spotify, it’s worth noting that the most exciting rap projects of 2019 weren’t available on streaming services: the enigmatic leaks and snippets of Playboi Carti and the incessant string of YouTube-only bangers from the wildly prolific Sada Baby (who also dropped two solid mixtapes and a killer album).

My favorite rappers of the year were rising star turned chart-topper Roddy Ricch and gritty, Flint powerhouse Rio Da Yung OG. Roddy took Album Of The Year with PFMFBA (even though his best track “Ballin” wasn’t on the album) and Rio released at least five solid mixtapes along with dozens of unfailingly-outstanding features.

Duke Deuce’s gloriously rowdy “Yeh” was my favorite rap song. DaBaby seems to be the biggest rapper out and I enjoy his music, but none of his songs made the cut (although he has great appearances on “Cash Shit” and “Under The Sun”). The biggest surprise of the year was having two solid J. Cole features on the list, although I still don’t respect him since he ruined “Planez” (among other things).

I moved to Milwaukee in early 2019 and realized that I’ve been sleeping on some serious talent. From the straight-up Milwaukee slap of Spanish Rice to the polished-up slap of Lil Chicken’s latest release Billy. But 54 Baby Trey transcends the slap and I could see him having a promising career once he finally drops an album or mixtape. (Meanwhile download my unofficial 54 Baby ‘The Mixtape’ here.)

While on the topic of Wisconsin rap, I have to shout out Nathen Peni’s “Iceberg,” which is Green Bay’s greatest rap song since C.W.A.’s “Where The Hell Is Neenah.” Hoping he comes up with a better rap name in 2020, though.

I hate, fear, and am greatly uncomfortable by friend group chats. Especially with the “toss em in and let them socialize naturally" approach

Too often, I am invited in by someone who decides Im someone they want thier other friends to meet/they want to chat with in a single area with the rest of thier friends. And they add me and I might get,.. a day or two of spcializing with these new potential friends, maybe several months! But eventually, all too quickly, the people within go back to talking with thier older established conversation partners, and I find I am responded to less and less when I try adding in to a conversation, or wave something excitedly, or.. anything. To the point I notice that when I post things, no one says ANYTHING and the next post is someone else on a new tpic and people immediatly respond to that person.

I become invisible.

Or I am thrust in to a already busy erver, and my attempt to join in is lost amid the clamor, and the perso who yanked me in is nowhere to be seen or has a hands off approach.

No! I’m shy! I am introverted and very very unsure of any welcome I will recieve from ANY new face always and forever. Dont throw me into the fish pond and expect me to swim with the school. I need the person who brought me in to at least make SOME effort to help integrate me. Or say hi or speak to me or something if others dont respond to me.

Arent I thier friend? Wasnt I brought into the chat because they like talking to me?

But no. What happens, almost always, is that this friend abandons me too. I become invisible to them as well! Its much more apparent that I am never anyone’s 1st, 2nd.. hell even 9th choice on who they will soclaize with first. I never have been. I never will be. Not with anyone. 

I know it is often unintentional! People likely dont mean to ignore me, and likely dont notice that everyone else hasnt been responding either. but it happens. Far more frequently than it should. in 97% of all friend group or niche binding interest group ive ever been in. 

And this causes me to withdraw further. I give up. The chat becomes a source of sadness and depression, that I dont feel I can leave cause this person who brought me will get concerned, and ask, and I cannot tell them “You brought me in and ignored me after. The people you wanted me to meet ignore me too. I am not wanted, so I left”

The problem is... I ALWYS have suffered from anxiety specifically centered around being the invisible person in a friend group. I wasnt bullied when I was little, but as the adhd child, socially awkward introvert who would rahte rbe in a book, it was very very clear that in any group, I was one of the lowest on the hierarchy of “people enjoyable to interact with” and I watched person after person leave my life or just... ghost me, maybe again unintentionally, in favor of others.

Im not very social. I dont know what to say to people I concider friends. I am more likely to run ad retreat and hide when I see problems or see that Im going to be abandoned again.

Its just so much more blatant at how Odd Duck Out I am.. in a group chat. I dont like feeling resigned that Im unwanted. I dont want to go “its ok... everyone leaves. You will too.” at people or even as a coping way of comforting myself when I see a friend chatting endlessly with people and thier messages have been dead for months when it comes to me. 

but.. its ok. I guess. After all, its always been like this. Social media just makes it more aparent.
