Spent the day with my maternal grandmother and she told me about how in school she loved math and physics but was driven away from the subject by being told that as a girl she couldn’t do well at math and I feel like that was the final excuse I needed to fully commit to math. My mom trying to feed me that same “women are worse at math” bullshit already turned me into a math major with an axe to grind but I feel like I’m getting the chance my grandma never got and that makes me want to make the most of it and go as far as I can
#quin talks#I’m my own person and I chose math for myself rather than to balance my own happiness with my mom’s (like with geology)#but seeing my grandma’s enthusiasm inspired me to keep pushing and keep going#and if I can show my mother I’m good at what I love#even better#I want to go all the way to a doctorate if I can (idk if my degrees after my AST will be in math or data analytics though)#quin’s school adventures

Wanna confuse my teacher with me?
I am a grad student. For one of my classes my professor has us research current trends. This is a very non-serious poll but, if you have any further information on why you picked what you did, feel free to let me know. If there are other reasons why you're on here, let me know. If you have honestly no idea why you're here, that's fair.
I talked about sexual content on AO3 last week so at this point, anything's on the table.
#I'll read all your answers#I want to confuse my teacher#He didn't know what AO3 or angst was#He will not understand Tumblr#It will be glorious#Write as much or as little as you want#Do a dissertation on why you use Tumblr#make me regret posting this#have fun with this#college#grad school#grad student#homework#data analytics#tumblr#tumblr polls#polls

getting a degree in the thing that has literally been your job for the past five years is weird because classes usually fall into one of three categories:
I have never in the half-decade that I have been a data analyst used trigonometry and literally no other data analyst that I know has used trigonometry at work why are you forcing your trigonometry down my throat?
Oh, yeah, I learned the contents of this class approximately three years ago and thus will not be using the book for any of my assignments. All sources will be backward engineered into my assignments from what I know to be true from firsthand experience.
This class is technically helpful I guess but also just feels like common sense to me and the fact that I have to write pages and pages on this very basic topic that I learned about through my job and the fact that there is no way to count work experience for credit is slowly killing me and taking away my desire to even try to get an A in this dumb class.
Anyway, my current class falls into category 3 and I am fighting my brain every step of the way to just pass this class because I find it so dreadfully boring and pointless hooray
#college#adult student#I am still so far out from getting my degree I want to cry every time I think about it#I have an associate's degree#and I don't need a degree to do my job#but I DO need a degree to not have job applications automatically booted out if I choose to switch companies#because the people who make the requirements for these jobs don't actually know what data analysts do#I estimate that 80% of the analysts at my company have degrees unrelated to analytics in any way#two of the best analysts I know have degrees in journalism and sociology#like honestly

Completely opposite from F1′s problem, I think tennis fans and personalities need to stop pushing back against so many of the changes and let the sport evolve instead of being left behind
#However like f1 I do think it also needs less america#Also less clay#But it needs more automatic line calls and the allowance of on court (in box?) coaching#I dont care if its an individual sport all sport is becoming more analytical and if it doesn't adapt its gonna feel out dated#If you and your coach are smart enough to have live data and an effective way to communicate then use it#It's a weapon just as much as any on court shot is#actually all of tennis media is shit recently but then so is a lot of the current crop of players lmao#I really am in a mood tonight i am so sorry i do not know whats wrong with me#tennis

Despite being an admin I've been given a lot more work of a communications and data analytics nature (to assist the news team in crafting more effective stories etc) at the office and the head of comms mentioned it to our VP yesterday in their lunch meeting to make sure he was on board with me shifting roles a little bit and doing less with budget more with media
Apparently VP is deeply excited that I finally have someone (head of comms and media whom i love) to help guide my career transition from just being an administrator because he's wanted me to develop myself in this field since my first months on the job and now i finally have the opportunity
I may feel like shit but goddamn, my boss believes in me ✨
#a lot of it is still administrative in nature but instead of just filing and taking calls i get to analyze news stories and reader traffic#i get to monitor media mentions and build a database of external stories about the university and professor led works#im now in charge of the editorial and photoshoot calendars for all meetings so we can keep things in order#and im going to be in charge of all Quarterly data analytics for story telling trends so that we can determine what readership wants#all this for a kid without a degree whos figuring it out as they go lmaooooo
