My Adenomyosis Story, Part 2
Fast forward to October 2018.
I resigned and used the time to deal with the issue in my belly. Seeking for a 2nd opinion, I met a doctor who promptly recommended surgery. Initially, he asked if I had children. When I said yes, he looked relieved and then explained that I needed to remove my uterus to get rid of the fibroid.
He warned that if left untreated, it could grow and potentially develop into cancer. Tears welled up as I listened to his words. The mention of "cancer" was frightening, and though I hadn't planned on having more children, the thought of losing that option was disheartening.
I hesitated. He hadn't given a specific name for my condition, only referring to it as a fibroid or a mass. Doubt crept in; did I truly want surgery for a condition without a name?
Life continued, even as I struggled to decide.
In the new office, I commuted using public transportation. This meant I couldn't stop at rest areas to deal with my bleeding. I couldn't sit for too long, as it would cause blood to accumulate on my pad. So, I had to leave early and return late to avoid rush hour.
I used to think I had heart issues because I had to move slowly, avoiding sudden movements. My vision could unexpectedly blur, leaving me breathless with a pounding chest. Every time I crossed a pedestrian bridge, I'd pause for five minutes, afraid of fainting. In my mind, I worried about inconveniencing others if an overweight woman like me fainted on the road. Right?
Then, I met Prof Andri.
Prof Andrijono, an Obgyn and Oncologist, practiced at RSCM Kencana, a government hospital known for its expertise in treating patients from across Indonesia. If there was an unusual or uncommon illness, doctors at RSCM would surely be knowledgeable about it.
I told him about my journey from the past year, detailing symptoms, experiences, and test results. He listened intently, then ordered me to retake all of the tests, from blood work, USG, to MRI scans. Before proceeding, I asked what was happening to me.
He said, "You have Adenomyosis."
Oh, so it has a name. Read next part here: https://bit.ly/adenomyosis_part_3
