"Daddy, why is the island the only place that doesn't need to be fixed?"

You looked down at your six-year-old daughter that had been spinning in circles just a few seconds ago that was now kneeling next to Levi in his wheelchair, bombarding him with questions regarding the Rumbling.

The three of you were currently on a boat traveling back from Paradis Island, having decided to take a few weeks of vacationing to see the Titan-free world that so many had been sacrificed for. You were on your way back from the island after showing your daughter where her parents met, as well as some of the nicer areas of the island that wasn't overwhelmed with their military forces, like the beach or the meadow that you and Levi commonly snuck off to when you were overwhelmed.

You quickly tried to formulate some response about how it was too complicated for you to explain right now, not wanting to expose your six-year-old to the horrors that nearly caused the extinction of humanity, but you looked towards Levi as he reached into his bag to pull something out to help answer her question.

This wasn't that much of a surprise to you. Levi wasn't a fan of lying to her. He never was the type to sugarcoat or make up some cheesy story to avoid exposing kids to the grim reality of what had happened, and he especially wasn't the type to do that to his own kid.

You saw him pull out his sketchbook that he had recently picked up, wanting to pursue some type of hobby that he could do from the couch or his wheelchair on days when his knee was flaring up.

You watched as he began to draw out the Titans, explaining how big they were compared to humans, and how colossal the Titans involved in the Rumbling were, eventually going on to explain that the big Titans came from the island and spread throughout the world. You found yourself considerably impressed with how he was explaining the war without going into too many details regarding the xenophobia the world had against the Eldians.

"What's that?" your daughter asked, genuinely interested, but also confused as Levi began drawing the structure of the Walls.

Levi wasn't a great artist. He had started drawing the Walls to explain how the Titans moved during the Rumbling, but it was from a top-down perspective, so it just looked like three circles surrounded by stick figures.

"The walls that used to be on the island," he explained with a sigh.

"Is that the island?" she asked, pointing to the dot at the center that was supposed to represent Mitras. "Why were the Walls built in the ocean?"

"They weren't," he explained, trying to hide the irritation in his voice over his inability to draw something comprehensible. "That was Mitras, the Capital and center of the island. The Walls surrounded it."

You watched her nod rapidly as he explained whatever it was that he was trying to draw. Despite how much he was struggling to get his point across, she seemed to be genuinely interested in the history of the island.

"Why are there people floating?" she asked after he began explaining how you used mobility gear to fight against the Titans to compensate for how large they were.

"Is that supposed to be me?" you asked, finally leaning over to see what it was that he was trying to draw, and pointing at a stick figure that vaguely had a hairstyle matching yours.

Levi paused and you could tell that he was getting exasperated with the comments and questions.

You could almost hear him blatantly groan in relief as he cursed underneath his breath once your child's attention was ripped away by a dog belonging to another one of the tourists running by.

"Mommy, can I go play with the puppy?" she asked excitedly while tugging at your shirt.

You nodded, reaching down and fixing a strand of her hair that had formed into a loop after getting tangled.

"Just don't go too far, okay? And be nice to them. I'm sure that poor puppy is overwhelmed."

You watched as she ran off to play with the dog while incoherently explaining Levi's history lesson to them.

Sighing, you sat down on the bench next to Levi as he pinched the bridge of his nose, quickly developing a headache from how flustered he had gotten while trying to explain a somewhat complex topic to his child that had yet to develop an attention span.

"Maybe we can pay for you to get art lessons once we get back home."

"Don't start," Levi grumbled, barely letting you finish your sentence.

You chuckled at his reaction as you grabbed at the drawings he had produced. They were indeed terrible and barely comprehensible, but ended up looking quite cute as a result, despite the fact that they were attempting to depict a bleak reality.

Your smile gradually faded as you got reminded of the horrific events that occurred surrounding the Rumbling, and even before then, when you were trapped within the Walls, with your comrades dying left and right while fighting in what seemed like a hopeless war.

"Lev'," you voiced, getting his attention, "don't you think she's a bit too young to be explaining all this to?"

He glanced over at you.

"What, you want me to lie to her instead?"

"She's six," you reminded him. "I don't know if she can even comprehend the fact that nearly all of humanity was wiped out."

Levi paused for a moment, knowing that you were right. It was a big topic to be explaining to someone so young. Still, he wouldn't have felt right lying to her in a vain effort to protect her innocence while living in a world that was nowhere near innocent.

"She's a smart kid," he eventually murmured. "She'll manage."

After noticing that you weren't responding, he looked over at you, and saw you eyeing him with a warm smile on your face, despite the fact that the two of you were in disagreement over this topic.

"What?"

"Hmm? Oh nothing, it's just..."

You trailed off, slightly shaking your head as you tried to keep the smile on your face from growing too wide.

"I just love seeing you with her like this. It's almost like it's in your nature—being a dad," you mused, your heart warming. "Never thought I'd be fortunate enough to get to see papa Levi on a daily basis."

You looked at him as you smiled, noticing the slight tint that had appeared on his cheeks.

"Plus, I never get to really appreciate how god damn pretty you are when you're just...being you."

Levi was clearly struggling to hide the blush forming on his cheeks and ears at this point, and cleared his throat as he shifted around in his chair after averting his gaze.

"What?" you teased, noting his struggles in maintaining that aloof demeanor that you had worked so hard to break down throughout your relationship.

"You're such a brat sometimes," he grumbled, annoyed—and a tad embarrassed—at the fact that you pointed out his natural tendency when it came to fathering your child.

You chuckled as you leaned forward and placed a gentle and quick kiss on his cheek.

"Love you too, Ackerman."

Thank you so much for your kind words! I miss you guys all so much, it really makes me feel sad to know I’m not back and ready to write again. 😭 I have been playing a lot of piano though ( can post vids if you guys are interested at all ), and I really missed it as it is one of my deepest passions. It’s been a step at a time, a week at a time, but I’m hopeful to get something small written and posted soon for all of you!

I feel like I have no bump yet. 😂 I’m waiting but I’ve also heard women don’t pop with their first until later so I’ve been taking progression pics weekly lol. I can’t tell what’s bloat and what’s not anymore as the first month I was just bloated beyond belief no matter what I ate.

Luckily, I am able to incorporate more carbs and sugars back into my diet as I’ve been managing my diabetes like a pro! ( not to brag ). I’ve been baking a lot of breads for my husband and I and they are delicious. 😊 think I’m gonna go to cookies next week and then cakes.

I’ve had two cravings, if that’s what you want to call them ( other than really wanting to eat a candle last week because it smelled SO GOOD ). Aversions have been bigger on my list, taste wise and oddly texture wise.

One craving has been these crispy fried green beans that Birdeye makes. I just air fry them and go to town. Have been surviving off them tbh.

Second is chips ahoy but ONLY the crunchy ones. I will cry if given chewy. Unfortunately, I still can’t gorge myself on sweets so i have to limit myself to one cookie a DAY. And it’s not made me happy. 😭😂

I also want avocado with some chocolate sauce on it but my husband keeps talking me out of trying. 🥲

Wilbur and Zoe are fantastic as usual, Wilbur is still very clingy and I suspect Zoe knows something is going on with me but that could just be my imagination, haha.

a ridiculously detailed catalogue of matt's guitars for my show*! aka a collection for people who have maybe an unhealthy obsession with Manson guitars

*4/14/23; in order of how excited i was to see them! this isn't necessarily a ranking of how cool i think these guitars are! this ranking is based purely on the amount of deadly chemicals released by my brain upon seeing them.

#10 Matt Black FR(Matt Black Whammy)/Chrome FR(Chrome Whammy)

i'm pairing them first since they're almost identical in build(though the MBFR is in drop D) and i was expecting to see both of them/have seen them used in past shows :)

Chrome Whammy also gets used the most in this era and both of them have given me so much grief when trying to identify these guitars. the dark chrome finish looks SO much like the Matt Black FR under certain stage lighting and it's nearly impossible to tell them apart by hardware, there've been so many times when i confidently think oh hey he's using the Matt Black Whammy but no its Chrome FR. and vice versa. even at certain points during the actual concert i was second guessing myself, they make me feel delusional.

even knowing i would see her, i just got so excited about the kaoss pad. as one does. its a special little joy to see hardware thats so uniquely Muse. like in what other performance are you going to get to see a kaoss pad in a guitar(or bass)!

#7 MB-1 Blue(Blue Steel/Blue Beast)

i just think she's sooooo pretty, the blue is such a beautifully rich shade and i love the gloss finish, as much as i love the play on "matt" with the matte guitars, i'm weak to pretty shiny things. it was also so exciting to see her because i really wanted them to play Resistance and when i saw matt with the MB-1 Blue i knew they were going to! (barring the fact that they were alternating every night and i knew that night it was Resistance's turn, for some reason i was still worried we wouldn't get it lmao) i did accidentally call her Bluebell at the time though. which i don't think has been used at all this tour(🥲).

somehow i neglected to take a picture of her specifically??? i'm really kicking myself because i didn't get any closeups during WSD or KOBK but the whole time i was holding my tongue from talking about her during the show 😭 because who in their right mind wants to hear some random screaming fan yelling about how the Oryx is matt's first Manson with 24 frets during the show 💀 i did get to see him use it earlier this year at my last Muse show which is why i've put it before my #5. but she is so unique and interesting, there are so many cool fun facts about her! i don't know how i didn't get a good shot, i was probably too busy headbanging.

#5 MB-S Prototype(Verona Sky)

to finish off the trifecta of newbies(2022/2023 additions, barring remodels)! suuuuch a beauty and makes watching Verona just that much more magical! a brand new Manson special for the WOTP era for the most tender moments of the show <3. both Verona and TDS instrumental have a dreamlike energy live, which to me is elevated by the MB-S in her beautiful sunburst orange and strat-style shape. matt was pretty far from us while perched on will's shoulder so i didn't get a great pic of it but i tried! its just such a gentle, almost pensive little moment in the set between two heavy bangers(WAFF/SBH) which i love, it feels oddly intimate in spite of being in a full arena as matt coaxes each note out of the MB-S and it echoes into the open space.

#4 Red Alert

since there are three red guitars in use for Uprising this tour, i really didn't know which one we were going to get! the last time i saw them in january, matt used the MA EVO Sustainiac Satin Fire Red, which is fun, but like the other Fire Red, has a matt(e) finish. i was really hoping we would get to see Red Alert and we did!!! she looks like cherry candy i need to take a bite. uh, that is to say. she's very pretty and my eyes sparkle in her presence. and she has a special name which is always important to me. i wouldn't say Red Alert ranks higher than some of the other beauties on this list in terms of how cool i think they are, but since there wasn't a guarantee we'd get to see it, it ranks highly here!

#3 Mirror 2.0

notoriously a nightmare to get a good picture of live, what with the whole... mirror finish and all, here she is!! our beloved veteran of the lineup, Mirror Manson <3. what a joy to see her, even though she's not the original. i couldn't confirm which Mirror he was using at the time since they're almost identical, but the fuzz factory knobs are slightly further apart than the OG, and 2.0 is fit with a MBK-1 on the bridge rather than the original Mississippi Queen P90s. not sure if Chrome Fuzz is in the rig for this leg, but theoretically she also had potential to be used here in place of the Mirror, so another happy slight surprise there for Mirror enjoyers. it really is another special little joy to see and hear Plug in Baby with such an iconic guitar, and especially when we get to play call and response with the fuzz factory!

#2 Chrome Whammy 2.0

now i know it seems like an odd choice to put her here especially considering i had Chrome FR as my #10, but let me explain.

YMMFLIH is one of my favorites on WOTP so as it is, i was already losing it from the moment matt sat down to play the intro(WHICH IM CRAZY ABOUT). about halfway through the second verse, i regained enough mental consciousness to realize matt was using the new Manson Origin Etch pickups on the bridge!!! this was a huge surprise since MuseWiki isn't updated and i had been totally drooling over the pickups on instagram for weeks(months??)(<- still has never touched an electric guitar) so getting to see them in person and being used on stage was SO EXCITING!!! unfortunately by the time i realized, i wasn't able to get a clear picture of the bridge since matt was playing the final chorus. thus began the search for my new white whale.

after the concert, i scoured my pictures and videos for a shot of it, confident that i saw it during Halloween and on the Chrome Whammy. i looked at every picture i had, but found that all my pictures of the Chrome Whammy just had the MBK-2 humbucker on the bridge, so i thought maybe i made my usual mistake and thought it was Chrome when it was actually Matt Black. i checked my pictures of her too and it was the same so at that point i felt like i was going completely mental. i checked every video and picture from the Muse instagram with manic obsession and could only find a tiny glimpse of it in one of the mini clips from a concert reel.

i went back to MuseWiki to see if i could find it there and thats when i realized. it wasn't Chrome Whammy. it was Chrome Whammy 2.0.

in hindsight i should've realized the guitar matt was using for Halloween had a humbucker on the neck instead of a single coil Sustainiac which is a dead giveaway, hence the above reaction. the problem still remained though, i had no photographic evidence. though MuseWiki reminded me it was 2.0, it still says the bridge is a MBK-2 and the pictures remain un-updated. i had confirmed for now that i was not delusional, but i still didn't have a picture and i wanted so desperately to talk about it. but then my savior appeared right under my nose. my dear friend @domwhoreward found this picture from one of her shows and i was FINALLY VINDICATED!!! HERE SHE IS IN ALL HER GLORY!!!

words cannot describe how absolutely insane i went when i saw her!!! Holoflake is my favorite guitar currently in use(though it's very close with the Black 7-String 2.0), i just love the glittery, glossy black finish so much, it's so pretty!! not only that, but the only song it's being used for this tour is MOTP, the one song i wanted to hear MOST out of all the songs on rotation and one of my favorite muse songs of all time!! it was such a personal moment for me because if they hadn't played MOTP, we wouldn't have gotten to see Holoflake at all. this was my most special moment from my show, i think the guy next to me probably wished i was dead though. this is once again a screenshot of my video since i spent most of it in a manic panic screaming crying and throwing up. its a miracle i was even still alive after that. or anyone within a 5ft radius.

A Week

A lot happened yet I'm still in the same place.

The past week was very busy for me, I had to travel to another state to do some boring shit. Though I got to see people I haven't seen since the start of the pandemic, so that was nice.

stuff’s been happening since I’ve been essentially trapped with my parents in Tennessee. separating this into good and bad.

have fallen on my broken ankle twice while in a cast and I’m not sure yet if it’s okay. I did a little research and while normally this is a terrible idea, for once the internet has revealed that this happens to literally everyone and it’s usually not that big of a deal. still going in the bad section because quite frankly it hurts, I can’t tell if there’s more swelling, and if I end up being here for longer because of this I’m going to be furious, becauuuuuse…

I’ve gotten into some truly horrendous fights with the fam. this was happening before I broke my ankle, then it died down due to, you know, having more important things to deal with. but it started back up again…when my mom started floating the idea of looking for teaching jobs. I told her I’m super uncomfortable with this idea right now, and tried to send her some articles to read about why opening schools is really really bad, and the CDC is full of shit when they say it isn’t. she said she read them and came to the conclusion that this is an issue “with two sides” (I’m sorry what) and it came back to the argument both parents were making when I got here, which is that APPARENTLY according to THEM, “lives vs. the economy” is a real calculation we should supposedly be making.

I can’t even type this without getting so angry I want to cry.

I don’t feel safe here. my parents are still taking precautions but I don’t feel safe in this state or with their attitude. that last fight ended in a screaming match and I had to call a friend and talk to her for 3 hours so I didn’t just cry all night.

I was already leaning towards doing PT in New York as much as possible and everyone was telling me not to rush it but now I know why that was my instinct.

but I also don’t feel safe being on my own until I know I can get up and down stairs without falling (I live in a 1st floor walkup), and I can’t get a straight answer from anyone on when to expect that.

there’s other family drama. I think it’s because my dad is stressed from being retired, moving, and not having income coming in anymore. but he’s taking his stress out on everyone else and it’s verging on bullying. I called him out on it (I told him he was throwing temper tantrums) (he is) and my mom plans to talk to him, once again I told her it’s becoming super uncomfortable, especially when I’m trying to work and he’s screaming in the next room over the dumbest shit imaginable. I moved to another state so I didn’t have to constantly be managing this crap anymore, and I’m over it.

there is a bunny that lives in or around this yard and I see it constantly in the backyard and even right outside my window from time to time, I cannot stress enough how looking out and seeing it is a ray of sunshine.

my parents got a hummingbird feeder because my dad is getting suuuuper into photographing birds, which fits into my mom’s pathological need to identify every bird she sees. the hummingbirds have figured out that it’s there. last night we watched a couple birds hang out there for 20 or 30 minutes—we think a lil juvenile that just sat there perched, feeding but also being fed by another bird (mom?) that flew over and would occasionally go over and look as though it was feeding it. it was pretty special to just sit there watching birds.

we also saw a skunk! it was just eating birdseed off the ground! I guess everyone likes sunflower seeds, not just every bird.

I’m feeling okay enough to go on driving trips around the park, and my dad & I took one to a really really gorgeous part of it yesterday. we saw a baby bear, many birds, and a giant gorgeous mushroom that I think was a chicken of the woods. most mushrooms are in places that are inaccessible to me but this one was right off the road and we managed to get the wheelchair down to a spot where I could use my crutches to get up there. I did *not* fall getting up there, and I think I managed to get good shots!

we are planning another driving trip that we think will have more road mushrooms, which is good, because honestly there are mushrooms everywhere down here and it was the only part of the trip that I was really and truly disappointed to be missing out on due to injury. I haven’t gotten good mushroom pics in a long time.

my job will be officially remote until sometime next year, at least January. this is a relief on several levels, yes the broken ankle (I would be remote anyway lmao) but also I’m just so glad we can continue to be good citizens of the city and the country. I was talking to my mom about it and I just started crying when I talked about it. I’m so so lucky to have the job that I do, not only because I really do love the work that I do and the people that I work with, but the company I work for is the gold standard for treating your employees like human beings and every single day my standard of living is improved by the fact that I’m not being ground down into a fine powder by a corporate machine.

I’m 4 weeks in to 6 - 8 weeks of cast wearing! I’m either halfway through or almost done, if I didn’t fuck anything up too badly by falling twice!
