sometimes i think about the story from Daniel's perspective and like...it doesn't make him any better. But like. damn son.
Daniel grew up with Alice, from birth basically, told from day 1 that he was going to marry her. he spent the summers with her, and they got along, they were best friends.
Then she disappears for a few weeks. When she returns, she seems fine, happy, normal. Then she cuts his face on accident, but they make up quickly and everything seems fine for the rest of the summer, for a month or two, and then as far as he can tell, out of literally nowhere Alice begins to speak absolute nonsense, and brandishes a sword. Then, after stalking him, she drives a sword into his leg while speaking nonsense. She literally saws through the bone with her sword.
And Alice faces no public punishment, and no one even mentions it again. No one believes Daniel when he tries to explain what Alice was saying or doing. They all just push it onto the fact that they were kids playing with things they shouldn't have been, it was an accident and nothing more.
But Daniel knows it wasn't a 'playful accident', he was literally hunted down by Alice, and he knows that if he hadn't used his other leg to kick her, just barely managing to knock the blade from her hand, she would've stabbed him in the heart without any hesitation. He was lucky that their attendants were close enough that they got there before she could get back up. Daniel also knows that Alice would easily do so again, if not kill with ease.

Alice is in her third trimester
I've seen a few comments about Daniel possibly cheating on Alice with Armand and I'm kinda like . . . you're assuming that Daniel or Armand -- who regularly, at least in the books, would be in situations where Armand would sit in a chair and watch Daniel have sex with other people -- would themselves view that as cheating. Because I don't think they would've. (At the very least, not younger Daniel.)
It's been talked about, more than once, about how the vampires in this universe are inherently polyamorous. I don't think Armand would care at all about sharing Daniel with another lover. And Daniel, being entangled with Armand (and quite possibly Louis as well) for so long might have himself become not overly concerned with such a thing.
I think Alice is the only one who would have cared that Daniel was sleeping with someone else (if she ever found out), and would have seen it that way. But I, personally, can see Armand and younger Daniel not caring about that view of things in the slightest . . . particularly because they were the ones who were together initially anyway. And that Daniel probably first ever got together with Alice during one of Daniel's running away periods.
Because the main thing that led to their splits sometimes, i.e. Daniel running away, was because Armand's refusal to make Daniel a vampire. Other than that, though? Nothing else in the relationship between them was a problem, particularly for Daniel. And I think that is going to be true wrt the show's version of events. Still being with his vampire lover, even after he may have gotten married? Don't think it is at all outside of possibility -- or that Daniel would have any guilt about it.
And THAT piece of information -- that the only problem he had with the relationship with Armand is that Armand wouldn't turn him -- is going to be the info that Daniel, in the present, likely won't want to face about himself IMO.
Daniel is clearly accepting of the fact that he was a shit father and a terrible husband. But accepting the possible true reason behind all of that?
I said it last year, and I'll say it again -- the revelation about the Devil's Minion that's going to hit Daniel the hardest is very likely going to be the one that reveals he has ZERO moral high ground when it comes to these vampires.
At the moment, Daniel can tell himself that he asked Louis for the Dark Gift because he thought Louis was wasting it. But that excuse is not going to work when it comes to the years and years he asked and wanted Armand to turn him.
That Armand refused to break his vow to never bring another into The Blood -- that is what ended up being what drove them apart. Not any moral conscious Daniel ever had, or grew, about being with Armand at all. Not even whatever transpired regarding Daniel and Alice (and Daniel getting her pregnant likely not just once, but twice, never mind marrying her.)
If Armand had decided to break his vow back then, then IMO, Daniel would have accepted. Alice or no Alice. Kids or no kids. Because while Daniel in the present has nice, even sincerely heartfelt memories about Alice? His past self was clearly emotionally checked out of whatever relationship he had with her by the time of that pregnancy announcement in 1985.
1985. The same year when, in the books, Armand finally did break his vow and turn Daniel, on Halloween. And this is what Daniel had to say about it when Armand finally decided to turn him:
"But don't you see," Daniel said, "all human decisions are made like this. Do you think the mother knows what will happen to the child in her womb? Dear God, we are lost, I tell you. What does it matter if you give it to me and it's wrong! There is no wrong! There is only desperation, and I would have it! I want to live forever with you."
As long as Daniel held any knowledge of not only vampires but of Armand specifically, this is what he would think, what he would always want. And that, IMO, is why he was emotionally checked out when Alice announced that pregnancy. Because, at that point in time, he still held the knowledge, of not just vampires, but Armand himself.
And they were still very much entangled with each other at that time IMO. Still lovers.
My theory is that it isn't Daniel kicking his drug habit that had him "getting his shit together." Well, okay, he did kick a drug habit, but the drug in question was actually Armand's blood. Not to mention Armand himself.
And I think that event happened sometime around when Alice was in her third trimester. (Hence, the name of that track listing).
. . . .
I'm also beginning to wonder if Armand actually was the one who repressed/blocked Daniel's memories of him, or if it was someone else. No, I don't think Louis was the one who did it, (or Lestat either btw), and Armand doing it does make the most sense, given he clearly is not harboring any happy thoughts about Alice, and Daniel splitting from him for her. But a day or so before the new clip came out, @faerywhimsy made a comment to me about who could have also done it, given a comment I made elsewhere about the timeline length Daniel and Armand were apart, and what book-event that matches up with and well . . . .
That person being the one who took Daniel's memories not only tracks wrt the timeline Armand and Daniel spend apart, but it would also track when it comes to the relationship Armand has with that person too. That's all I'm saying . . .
. . . .
Anyway, yeah. I think it was around Alice's third trimester when Armand and Daniel actually split for good. Which, depending on when she got pregnant could conceivably be around towards the end of 1985. Though, more possibly, go over into 1986. But I think that is why there is actually a track named that when it comes to the score for Season 2. Because that time period became a significant one. The time when Daniel actually "got his shit together."
And maybe why, in the present, he can have such love and loving thoughts about Alice. Because the reasons for his being emotionally checked out were no longer at the forefront of his mind for so long anymore (even if he still ended up being a shitty husband and father still -- with Alice as his ex and his kids not speaking to him -- without them).

Machine Memories- Day 15: Draft
Summary:
Jane has a bright new idea... She just hopes it can make the cut.
Tumblr media
Rating: G/PG
Jane's pencil danced across the page like a pirouetting ballerina. Her lunch lay abandoned at her side; leftover tuna salad wasn’t too appealing anyways. She had just gotten into the groove of a new design, and the inspiration was practically spilling out of her and into the lead on the paper. Eating could wait.
A little curl here, some shading there. Maybe she should add a hat. What kind of hat? Jane couldn't see her creation being the type to wear any sort of cloche. A dress was also out of the question, Carley was more practical than that. She was a part of the butcher gang, after all. Or, going to be.
Jane eventually decided on a bowler hat. She adjusted the hair to resemble horns; it definitely matched Bendy now.
What was next? She carefully crafted a sleeveless top and pants, somewhat resembling Boris's overalls. Perhaps she could throw in a bit of lipstick like Alice Angel wore. Finally, she blocked out her oversized boots and spent at least five minutes fixing her gloves and fingers.
There. Perfect. She had her final draft. Jane held it up and admired her piece with a bright smile. Now all that was left to do was submit her idea to Mr. Drew. Her heart gave a little flutter. She hoped he liked the idea.
The page was ripped from her hands. Jane whirled around to find a trio of her coworkers snickering at her drawing. They'd been doing that all week, and she had learned to block it out after a while. But now, they'd decided to confront her.
"So this is what you've been doing all week," The curly haired brunet holding the page sneered at her. "Is this your little fan project? You're really still at it?"
"Give it back, Daniel," Jane snapped icily and lunged forward. He stepped back and held it out of her reach.
"It's never going to work, Jane," Kim piped up, batting her false lashes at her. "Best not to waste your breath, hon."
"Carley will work," Jane combatted and reached up on her tiptoes to try and snag the drawing. Daniel was a full foot taller than her and barely even had to try warding her off.
"You're not special, Jane," Daniel replied. "Nor is your little cloudy friend here. Mr. Drew isn't going to bat an eye at this. You think we haven't tried? He doesn't listen to any of us."
"She's a ghost," Jane corrected, fighting hard to hold back tears. She wouldn't give them the pleasure of seeing her reaction. Was that true? Would Mr. Drew not care?
"Oh, that's cool," Richard complimented, eyes glued to her drawing. Daniel and Kim shot him a poisonous look. He quickly ducked his head and shut his mouth with a squeak.
"We're just trying to help you out here, Jane. This isn't going to work. Better to crush those dreams before they even start." With that, Daniel crumpled up the drawing in his fist.
Jane felt like her soul had been stomped on. Daniel tossed it onto the ground with a dismissive side glance. "Look, it's amusing. Cute, even. But big ideas are... not for you." With that, he turned and sauntered back to his table. Kim followed him like a lost puppy, giggling all the way. She was such a suck up...
Richard eyed his friends before reaching down and picking up her drawing. Jane steeled herself for more humiliation.
The young man only straightened out the drawing to the best of his ability and gave it a smile before handing it back to her. "Um... I think Carley is pretty cool," He said lowly, if a bit sheepishly. "I think you should show it to Mr. Drew."
Jane blinked. Was she hallucinating? "What...?"
"Your idea," He clarified with a bit more confidence.
"Oh..." Jane murmured and held the drawing closer to her chest. So she wasn't imagining that. "Thank you."
Richard brightened up a little and the tension in his face faded. It only lasted for a split second before a shout made him stiff as a statue.
"Rich!" Daniel was staring at them now with an irate grimace. Kim was looking over his shoulder in curiosity. "Your food is getting cold."
"Coming!" Richard called before giving Jane a light smile. "Good luck.”
Jane was left standing there, frustration, despondence, and relief mingling around in her head. She looked back down at her drawing. The wrinkles threw off her proportions and angles, but Carley was still there despite it all.
One day Carley would come to fruition. Maybe not now, maybe not a month from now… But one day. She wasn’t going anywhere until it happened.

did the show just.... butcher devil's minion completely??
I didn't mind Armand's characterization in the show so far (well, kind of, except the fact that they turned him into a supervillain vs. saint Lestat) but the sudden reveal that Daniel Molloy was turned by Armand "out of spite", leaving him all alone to fend for himself apparently, really put me off. so not only there is little to no chance that devil's minion ever happened in the 70s or 80s, but also it's not gonna happen in 2022? because Daniel has already been turned, and the turning of Daniel is the culmination of Armand's and Daniel's relationship arc together, one that is for sure unhealthy and codependent and obsessive, but that was also tender and sweet in a very special way - no wonder that chapter has been a fan favorite for so many for so long. and they just.... discarded it like that?
Daniel's a vampire, he's been turned out of spite, it's heavily hinted that it happened either immediately after Dubai or very little time later. I really doubt there has been time/interest to do any sort of chase, or one that culminates into the sort of feelings Armand and Daniel develop for each other, at least. Daniel destroyed Armand in the eyes of his lover and I really don't think there's any sort of love story brewing there. Doesn't seem it happened in the past either, cause there's not a single hint at the Alice theory in this episode and I thought that if it was true, we'd have another little crumb before the season was over.
What about Armand's line that making fledglings repulsed/repulses him? That was a really important piece of characterization and they didn't even let us see him work through that when turning Daniel. Book Armand sees the process as something worse than killing, and that is why he never did it. He finally concedes because of love for Daniel, however obsessive it is, because Daniel is begging him on his death bed, because he needs him forever and Daniel needs him, too. From repulsion to acceptance because of a pure, absolute sentiment. Show Armand turns Daniel Molloy because he's full of spite. Why would they take the 'Armand is a super villain and theres nothing else to him' route and give him a petty vedetta for that one act that is so important for him in the book, as a character? Why??
and why did they have the talamasca guy tell Daniel 'you should be scared of the other one' when literally they made Armand the dude who kills and turns Daniel, whereas Louis is his best friend?? It just doesn't make sense. There's quite a bit that doesn't make sense to me in this last episode. But I gotta admit, the treatment of Armand's and Daniel's characters has baffled me. even if I weren't a devil minion's fan or a fan of these two characters specifically, it would've rubbed me the wrong way.
I don't know. I guess we'll see what they do next; hoping that there is more to that event than a simple 'oh he turned u cause u ruined his life' and Armand fucking off into the sunset forever (not quite, lol). maybe we'll find out it was all an elaborate plot from Daniel who knew he was paying with fire and counted on Armand to be so mad he would do the one act he found repulsive: finally making a vampire. maybe that's it, and Daniel had decided at some point during the sessions that he didn't want to die, that he wanted the gift. maybe he never changed his mind about it since the 70s. maybe he played Armand. manipulating the manipulator? makes sense in a way, I guess, but boy is it a waste to not serve on a silver platter all those sad and tender and raw and odd feelings that the devil's minion chapter already had prepared for us.

Note
I know people are saying they've seen the next few episodes and it confirms nothing happened between Daniel and Armand in the past but...I really can't stop thinking about how Armand reacted to and what he said about Alice in episode 2. He couldn't know what Alice was thinking just from Daniel's memory - so he would've had to have been there, watching it happen to know Alice's thoughts. Also THE LOOKS Armand has given Daniel need some explanation if there was no past DM! Especially at the beginning of their solo scene in episode 3
Make it make sense 😫 It would be such a waste if they don't have DM in between 1973 and Dubai.
… Just because we won’t see it yet doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. There were enough hints.
The show is demanding of us what Lestat does in the books: “Read between the lines“
And we should.

okay so
Episode 5 nuked most of my expectations for DM canon, since I doubt they'd waste time on Armand revisiting Daniel like some ghost of Christmas Past after all that.
My hopes for a modern day DM scenario in season 3 grow like unseemly weeds.
(What is the Alice Thing tho??? Why is Armand weirdly permissive of Daniel's nonsense?? They (AMC) can't possibly shy away from their insane relationship in this canon, come on!!)
But 10000/10 Daniel/Louis teaming up moment. Like dang, I loved that. I hope they continue to tag-team him as it gets Worse.

Episode 9 (2.2)
Reactions to "Do you know what it means to be loved by death"
"Setting aside certain events" Louis is really brushing aside the death of his daughter/sister like that, huh? (Which I think is intentional)
God, Armand and Louis being cuddly and giggly on the couch, speaking in unison. It's cute, it's genuine. But it's also (knowing the plot and having a decent idea of where they intend to take it) such a performance of what Armand wants their relationship to be and has deliberately crafted.
Armand's look when Daniel says "keep selling it".
Again, the romantic music swelling over Louis and Armand's first meeting. The events aren't false, but the whole mood is this carefully made narrative on Armand's part.
Did they plan the glove mistake in season 1 as a clue to Armand's false identity, or are they just retconning it now in season 2? Maybe it's cynical of me, but I'm assuming it's a retcon.
Santiago is that bitch and I love it.
"All from our 150 year repertoire" so it is all Nicolas plays, updated and retooled.
The woodcutter in the last play (and thus the only real one) has sone Nicolas resemblance I'm just saying
"This is an english-only performance" the cruelty, the turning of it into all part of the show, is perfect.
You're damn right there's poignant violin
Louis and Claudia's very different facial expressions are so good
"After Danton was guillotined" Wikipedia tells me that's 1794 which is a little late compared to the books.
They call him Maitre
Ok the "Fuck off!" salute is funny (assuming the subtitles aren't lying to me).
Ok I guess it took the theater for the show to grow on me because I love all these new characters. Sam the new playwright!
Roget mentions Lestat could be "sleeping" does he know about the vampirism?
The guilt trip of telling Louis to let whoever did this fester
I've seen too much meta to not read into the Alice/Armand scene. It's well acted.
Lol, Louis falling asleep in Sanitago's performance is what kicks off their dislike, excellent. It still would have been nice for Louis to call him a buffoon.
The ludicrous gore is silly. I get how it can be fun, but it just makes me think of how much blood they're wasting. (I'm not the kind of person amused by food fights as a kid either).
Claudia loving the troupe adds such a knife twist
1556? That can't be right. Even with the show's timeline, they had kept Lestat's origin while moving up his meeting with Louis
NICKI ITS MY BOY NICOLAS LOOK AT HIM

Playing and reading some dialogues in Connor's story again made me think about 2 things:
1. Connor's empathy towards Hank is about the fact the guy can't overcome what happened with Cole
I think it's easy losing the context but Connor got a relevant topic in his overall story (that got a bit compromised cuz of some cuts) about "guardians and 'em kids". The same way we had Daniel and Emma, Connor was also supposed to get more affected by Alice and Kara relationship - androids developing love/attachment for kids and being parental figures. And then we got Hank and Cole, a kid that died. I just don't know if he thinks about "would I be able to develop affection and be a guardian to a kid too?", I don't think it's something he reflects in the game, not explicitly at least, but I think it's an interesting topic 🤔
2. Hank would never replace humans with androids.
According to his behavior and logic he would never engage in a romantical relationship with an android cuz they're "the easy mode". Androids are treated as disposable tools cuz they ain't got the same issues human have and always obey without question - he ain't got respect for this kinda people that prefer doing everything with an android instead of having a relationship with a human being.
Also according to his logic deviants suffer in dirty humans hands for this same reason. It's likely he would feel guilty and dirty about the thought of treating a deviant like a "machine" to be used without knowing, accidentally. Something like "y'all deviants shouldn't waste time with stupid humans" (also cuz deviants usually ain't got a good impression about humans) or something like that, he himself included. I think he would even try protecting deviant androids from humans if he could, even if they apparently got "good intentions".
This makes me think he also would never replace Cole with an android (esp if deviant) - goes against his morals. Similar to "I was once a father, but I'm not one anymore" when he finally open his eyes. But he would def do anything he could if there were a way of bringing his kid back to life, he doesn't want a new one.
These 2 topics are just impressions of mine. Feel free to prove me wrong, but I only work with canon stuff in here.

Temporary
They're fighting again.
Daniel doesn't even remember how the fight started, only how it ended. And it ended ugly. He may have told Armand that he was the worst thing that ever happened to him.
After that, Armand had tears in his eyes. It had instantly made Daniel feel like shit, but Armand asked him to leave when he tried to apologize.
So now he's ate a bar, pissed off and guilty and once again desperate for Armand's affection. He hopes that Armand didn't mean forever when he asked him to leave.
“I recognize that look. Girl trouble?
It's close enough, so Daniel says back “The worst kind.”
He turns to look at the stranger who spoke and it's a woman around his age. Big brown hair, clear gray eyes. One of her eyebrows is half blonde. She's pretty, in a way. Her nose is too big and her mouth too wide for her to truly be beautiful, but she's easy on the eyes. She's got shit for tits, but she isn't wearing a bra under her black tank top and Daniel can see the press of her nipples against the fabric. She's wearing tight jeans that show her shapely legs off. Not an unappealing person to spend his evening with.
“Yeah, same.” The woman clicks her beer bottle to his.
Daniel acts on impulse saying “I show you mine if you show me yours?”
She smiles and it lights her whole face up. Boyfriend—ex boyfriend now—proposed to me. Didn't like my answer.”
“Ouch,” Daniel says. “Mine's a bit complicated. Gives me everything except the one thing I want.”
“Commitment?” she guesses. And isn't that what it is in the end? Daniel wants to be with Armand forever, Armand only wants Daniel a little while. It's why he won't turn him—Daniel isn't his everything the way Armand is his.
“I want us together forever, they don't want to do what it takes to make that happen.”
She peers at him. She's already a little drunk, Daniel realizes. Well, he'll just have to catch up. He chugs his bottle down and signals for another. “I'll tell you what I told my fellow,” she says. “You can either waste your time chasing someone who will only ever see you as temporary, or you can find someone who sees you as permanent.”
That's...probably good advice, actually. Daniel looks her over head to foot. Decides, why the hell not? “Wouldn't mind finding something temporary right now.”
She grins, takes a slow swallow of her beer. Sticks out her hand to take his. “The name's Alice. Wanna come back to mine?”
/
His key doesn't work when he comes back home the next night. It isn't the first time Armand has changed the locks on him, but Daniel hadn't expected it to happen so soon. He came prepared though; he's brought Armand a gift.
Daniel knocks on the door. “Armand?”
It's difficult to knock and keep the box in his arms, but he manages. It's an espresso machine. Not a typical apology gift, but Armand went through a phase with blenders and microwaves. Daniel figures he can't go wrong with kitchen appliances.
He hears Armand moving on the other side of the door. “I'm still angry with you, Daniel.”
Daniel shifts the box in his arms and sighs. He was really hoping not to have to go rounds with Armand today. “Yeah, I know. I'm sorry, okay? I'm a dick.”
“Go away, Daniel.”
Daniel wonders if Armand really kicks him out—and he never really does, he just needs space sometimes, that's all—he can get Alice to let him crash with her again tonight. He left with less than a hundred bucks cash on him, and he doesn't have anyone he can spend the night with. “Please, baby. Let me make it up to-”
“Whose Alice?” And right, mind reading. Armand typically doesn't do it as often now, now that Daniel earned his love. Except for when they argue, because he isn't above cheating, the bastard.
“She's nobody, baby. It didn't mean anything.”
Armand is quiet for a long moment, then he says mildly, “Then you won't mind if I kill her?”
Shit. Shit. He likes Alice. She's good people. Certainly not someone who deserves to die because he fucked up. “Aw, come on. Don't take it out on her. It's me you're mad at.”
Armand says nothing. Shit shit shit.
“I brought you a present,” Daniel tries. He sits down the box when Armand doesn't answer. “You gonna let me in?”
“No.”
Daniel swears. Fuck this. He's getting in one way or another. He needs to make things right with Armand. So he goes around to the back door. It's also locked, and his key doesn't work. But the back door has a small window built into it, covered by thick, blackout dark curtains.
He punches the window. It hurts like hell, but it cracks. He hits it again, and the glass shatters, leaving a small hole. Daniel pushes his arm through and unlocks the door, pushes his way inside.
Armand is there in the kitchen waiting for him. He's looking at him with dark, dilated eyes. “You're bleeding.”
And Daniel is, scratches all the way up his arm to his shoulder. His hand has broken glass smashed into it, and there's a wicked gash across his knuckles. He barely notices. “You're worth it.”
Armand makes a small noise, then launches himself into Daniel's arms. One moment he is across the room, and the next he's kissing Daniel. Daniel wraps his uninjured arm around his waist and kisses him back like he'll die if he doesn't. Armand kisses him like he wants to devour him, biting and hungry. “I love you, I love you, I love you,” Daniel pants against his mouth.
Then he's being manhandled until he's bent over the counter, and Armand is kicking his legs apart. Armand takes him there in the kitchen, injured hand hanging off the counter, and other twisted behind his back and held in place by Armand. His face is mashed into the counter-top and his pants are only around his knees. Armand doesn't touch him, other than the hand in his hair holding him down and the one around his wrist. He fucks him, rough and deep, until Daniel is a crying, desperate, incoherent mess. Only then does he let him touch himself and come.
Later, Armand cleans and bandages his wounds. His blood would heal Daniel right up, but Daniel knows better than to ask. This peace is too fragile.
“Are you going to see her again?”
Armand sounds disinterested, like he couldn't care less. But if that were true, he wouldn't be asking. Daniel runs a hand through his hair and tucks a strand behind his ear. “No, I'm all yours. I promise”
Armand glances up at him. He's rooting around in Daniel's head to see if he's telling the truth. Daniel lets it happen without complaint; he's already in the dog house, he can grant Armand some leeway.
After a moment, Armand smiles. “Alright, I believe you.”
Daniel wraps an arm around his waist and rests their foreheads together. “We good now?”
“We're good.”
This time, he almost believes it.

Note
i love seeing your posts! they always make me smile. for your ask about a character, lestat or the interviewer?
omg thank you so much that is so sweet of you 🥹🥹 i just did lestat so i will do the boy himself DANIEL MOLLOY
first impression: yet again it was the movie. this was right around the time of 2015/16 heathers fanaticism so i was like. gasp it’s JD. when i read the first book i didn’t think much more of him than “that guy JD from heathers played” because there wasn’t that much to him, he was just an audience surrogate and a narrative tool.
impression now: devil’s minion continues to be the best chapter of any anne rice book as my good friend jacob anderson can attest to, i love book daniel so dearly that in the midst of my intense promotion for the show last year i blatantly ignored anything that was said about show daniel because i just didn’t know what to make of him. but we will get to that in a moment! in typical anne fashion she created an extremely compelling character in daniel and relationship in devil’s minion and then decided to do nothing with them for the rest of time, so sadly now when i think of book daniel i also feel bitter for all the wasted potential. but at least we’ll always have queen of the damned <3 back to show daniel, i decided to reserve judgement until i actually watched it, and now of course i really enjoy his character and i think he’s imperative to the show’s construction. he’s the audience surrogate in a completely different way, pointing out the obvious inconsistencies and the questions we all have, but he also endears us to louis, because we empathize with and feel protective of louis in the face of the more harsh interjections daniel has. then character-wise, the whispers of 70s daniel and his past relationships with louis and armand are really exciting to theorize about. i really love what he brings to the show and i’m at the edge of my seat waiting for what his future storyline will be!!!
favorite moment: in qotd, not so much a moment but the line about looking at armand as if he’s an insect is soooooo. so . yeah yeah . in the show, it’s the 70s flashback for obvious reasons lmao. i feel like that’s a copout but i cannot lie
idea for a story: i don’t know how likely the alice/armand theory is, but i love any and all extrapolations on it it’s such a . ahhhhhhhhh concept
unpopular opinion: i don’t know if i have one for book daniel but for show daniel. ok i’m weird because i love reading about the alice/armand theory but i actually don’t want devil’s minion to have already happened, i don’t want Any of the other books to have already happened and i’m honestly scared of the possibility 😭 i want to SEE devil’s minion play out i want to see armand throw daniel around Now
favorite relationship: see above
favorite headcanon: daniel and armand watch the worst of reality tv together and get soooo into it and daniel gets into a lot of discourse on twitter

At the end I genuinely feel like my junior and senior year were the years that changed me the most and made me who I am today but without freshman and sophmore year I wouldn’t have made that transition and come to this place. The name that people called me during that time represent that as well.

THE MEMORIAL DAY PLAYLIST
Because I have a platform for it with this blog, and because the blog focuses primarily on music, I wanted to do something for Memorial Day. I grew up in the shadow of the Vietnam War. I never served. I had a draft card, and a lottery number, but the government ended the draft just months before I would’ve been called. My number was a low one, so it’s likely I’d have been drafted, and I would’ve served rather than seek a deferment. The war ended soon after.
Though I never served, that war compromised the futures of every member of my generation. The money that might’ve been spent at home was wasted in a futile war we never had any chance of winning. It undermined our faith in the military, and in our government and elected officials. The veterans who survived that war were, at best, ignored and forgotten, and, at worst, betrayed, mistreated, and robbed of the dignity of having served their country in what they believed was a noble cause. Even today, nearly 50 years after that war ended, the Vietnam Veteran is the least recognized, and the least celebrated of any group of soldiers who served in any war in this nation’s history. There were 58,220 men and women soldiers who died in that war. The list of casualties, however, military and civilian, is incalculable.
So, I get angry every Memorial Day when I see the flags wave, and the veterans of all the other wars honored, yet again, for their service while those who served in Vietnam are shoved aside, or ignored altogether. I wanted to bring that fact to light in this space by compiling a Memorial Day Playlist of the songs that impacted my thinking about Vietnam, The Cold War, and about all wars. The list was getting so long that I finally had to stop. But on Memorial Day, if you need a reminder that the day is not for celebration, but for grief, you have only to listen to these songs, and remember one thing: if your government tells you that fighting a war is necessary, it is your duty as a citizen, and a patriot to question authority. If there is another way, questioning authority is the only way a war might be avoided. If, however, a war becomes necessary, and all other avenues have been exhausted, then fight knowing that dying is the ultimate price of freedom, and that never, ever is war a cause for celebration.

Daniel.
Who is Daniel?
Daniel is a year older than Alice, and his family is very close to Alice’s. Alice’s mother has promised that if Alice is not married by the age of 22, then she will marry Daniel (whether she wants too or not).
Daniel is very abusive towards Alice, and holds the belief of “if I can’t have her, then no one will”. He calls her ‘crazy’, and tends to state that the world would be ‘better off’ without her. Even sometimes going as far as threatening to euthanize her
He has been in Alice’s life since she was little, and after Alice’s first trip to Wonderland, she ended up severing his lower left leg during a bit of a mental breakdown. Since then, Daniel has taken it upon himself to keep Alice away from the general public, believing her to be a danger.
He attempts to keep anyone who may befriend Alice away, and especially tries to keep anyone who may gain more romantic feelings for her even further.
Alice has very mixed feelings about Daniel. While she is aware that he is not good for her, she continuously ends up returning to his side, in both friendship and romance, because he constantly makes her feel like there is no one else would ever be able to “put up” with her and her mental issues.
Daniel’s Faceclaim is Chace Crawford

Corpse Bride Headcannons, Theories, and Ideas
This is just a list of the theories, headcannons, and ideas I came up with for Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. I might add more later on, so watch out
-Victor and Victoria were born and raised in a small English village close to the Atlantic Ocean called Burtonsville
-Victor’s full name is Victor Ichabod Van Dort
-When he was about four years old, Victor found Scraps as a mixed-breed puppy in an alleyway. Nell and William refused at first, but William saw how his son quickly became attached to the dog, so he let him stay. Sadly, when Victor turned eight, Scraps was brutally mauled and tragically killed while trying to defend his beloved owner from a bigger, nastier dog
-Victor’s favorite toy as a child was a stuffed horse he called Usher. He begged his mother to let him keep Usher until he was fourteen
-Victor learned to play the piano when he was about five years old. He was a fast learner and he picked up on it very quickly, and his tutor was greatly impressed by his skill. His favorite musicians are Mozart and Beethoven
-Victor works as an artist to draw many types of butterflies for the Lepidoptera Community, as well as a professional pianist. Originally, his father wanted him to work as a fish merchant and take over the family business, but Victor politely told him “no thanks” because he wanted to follow his own dreams. William was disappointed, but deep down he wanted his son to be happy. So he usually encouraged him, especially when Nell wasn’t around
-Outside from his butterfly works, Victor does paintings during his free time at home. The color theory that he studied was written by Eugene De La Croix·         Victor has been drawing since he was a child. His favorite things to draw are animals, butterflies, and other insects. He also does landscapes and people sometimes. He also likes to write sometimes, mostly a few poems and a couple musical compositions. Nothing he took too seriously, though. He also likes to sing when he thinks he’s alone
-In his childhood, Victor used to have a somewhat regular playmate named Humphrey. They were almost friends, but when William’s business became very successful and Victor’s family became rich when Victor was about eleven, Humphrey stopped coming over and the two boys haven’t seen each other since
-When he was a boy, he learned how to speak French because his mother thought it was “high-class” to be bilingual. Victor was diligent in his studies and thus has a good knowledge of spoken and written French. He may not be perfectly fluent, but he can carry on a decent conversation
-Victor is severely allergic to walnuts and poison oak
-Victor had a cousin named Mary whom he was very fond of, but she passed away when she was seventeen and he was six. She got lost in the woods and was attacked and devoured by a pack of wolves
-Victor doesn’t drink anything more than the occasional glass of champagne or wine. The reason? Mayhew once got him drunk and it turns out Victor is a CHATTY drunk. As in, he’ll tell you his life story at the slightest provocation. Victor was so embarrassed when he sobered up that he nearly swore off all alcohol forever. It’s very unlikely he’ll ever knowingly get wasted again·         After he and Victoria were finally married, Victor gained confidence and he stood up against Victoria's parents earning him some respect
-Victor HATES smoking. He was secretly offered a cigarette from Mayhew when he was fourteen and after the first inhale, he was coughing and gagging so much that he nearly threw up
-Victor is the tallest member of the Van Dort family, making him stand out quite a bit during family reunions
-He may not be a sporty person, but Victor enjoys cycling. He also loves a good game of chess
-Victor adores reading. His favorite writers are William Blake, Charles Baudelaire, Lewis Carroll, Edgar Allan Poe, and William Shakespeare
His favorite books are “Les Miserables”, “Dracula”, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, “The Fall of the House of Usher” and other works by E.A. Poe. The play/book that he hates the most is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” because he strongly dislikes this style of a love triangle in the plot line. He also has a fascination with penny dreadful. Yes, he knows the serial stories are really nothing but lowest common denominator trash, but he loves them anyway. He got hooked on them as a teenager thanks to Mayhew’s nephew, and he used to keep a secret stash under his mattress
-When she still rather young, Victor noticed that his daughter, Emily, became very interested in music, so he taught her how to play the piano as well as the violin
-Victoria was the one who taught her son, Edward, how to read and they bond over books and stories they both enjoy
-The worst day of Victor’s life happened about three weeks after Scraps died. Victor’s parents had some business friends over for tea, and forced a still-grieving Victor to come down and be social. Poor Victor made a bad impression, being quieter and clumsier than normal, culminating in knocking over one man, tripping his wife, and insulting said wife’s coat in apologizing. Nell, humiliated and enraged, turned on her son once the guests were off, screaming at him about what an embarrassment he was while they were still standing on the front steps. Victor was so horrified, embarrassed, and depressed that he came too close to taking his own life. He got his hands on his father’s straight-razor, snuck into the bathroom, and actually had it to his neck when a noise from outside the bathroom spooked him and he dropped the razor and ran back to his room as fast as he could. Fortunately, the distraction gave him time to realize suicide wouldn’t fix anything, and he made a promise to himself never to stoop that low again. His parents also apologized the next day, which helped a lot. Victor avoids telling anyone about it unless he feels he has to, certain they’ll think less of him for it
-Victor was born June 9th, 1867
-Victoria’s full name is Victoria Elizabeth Everglot
-When she was very little, Victoria had always wanted a pet (like a cat or a small dog) but her mother said that having a pet in the house was uncivilized and improper and that all animals were filthy and uncouth creatures
-Victoria’s favorite hobby is sewing and knitting. She often designs most of her husband’s clothes and others in her spare time
-As a child, Victoria tried to be closer to her parents, but often found the family maid Hildegarde as more of a mother figure
-Victoria loves to read in her spare time… even though most people call it scandalous for a woman to do such a thing. Her mother even said reading was too passionate for a young lady. At a young age, Hildegarde, taught Victoria how to read (something her parents never found out about)
-Her favorite books are “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, “A Christmas Carol”, and any classic fairy tale. And her favorite writers are Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll, Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Andersen, and the Brothers Grimm
-Victoria’s favorite toy as a child was a china doll she called Miss Liddie. By the time she was about eleven, she had grown out of it. Even though she knows she’s too old for toys now, she still misses Miss Liddie
-Victoria isn’t allergic to anything, but she does tend to sneeze if dust is in the air
-When she was a little girl, Victoria was nearly trampled by a horse-drawn carriage, which made her develop a slight fear of horses
-Victoria likes to sing whenever she thinks she’s alone. She doesn’t believe it, but she has a surprisingly lovely singing voice
-When she was a little girl, Victoria was entranced by the piano in her house and she immediately wanted to learn how to play but her mother had told her daughter many times that music was improper and too passionate for a young lady. But Victor always tells his wife that music is a wonderful way to express oneself and that he would be more than happy to teach her how to play
-Victoria used to have a regular playmate named Gwyneth in her girlhood. They were good friends, but when Victoria reached her pre-teen years, Gwyneth stopped coming over to play for some reason and she never heard from her since
-Victoria is the most beautiful member of the Everglot family
-When she was in her early teens, Victoria secretly dreamed of becoming a writer someday
-Victoria was born February 3rd, 1868
-Victor and Victoria had two children. Their names are Emily Alice Van Dort (age 15) and Edward Daniel Van Dort (age 10)
-When Victor and Victoria were married, they moved out of their parents houses and bought a beautiful two story house that sat at the edge of a large meadow that was right next to the forest… plus, the house was a good mile or so away from Burtonsville
-The Corpse Bride’s full name is Emily Charlotte Cartwell
-Emily was born into a wealthy family. Her parents, Lord and Lady Cartwell, couldn’t say ‘no’ to their daughter and they practically gave her everything she asked for, so she became incredibly spoiled, selfish, and incredibly naïve·         Emily was a hopeless romantic, often spending time reading romance novels and daydreaming about her wedding when she was alive
-When she was alive, Emily was blonde
-When she made it to Heaven, Emily was finally reunited with her mother and father
-When their daughter disappeared, Lord and Lady Cartwell were so sad and depressed that they wasted away and passed away in their sleep
-Before ascending, Emily considered Bonejangles to be one of her best friends. They used to sing and dance together all the time. He even taught her how to play the piano
-When she was alive, Emily knew how to ride horses. She even had a pet white mare she called Aphrodite
-Emily Cartwell died at age eighteen
-Lord Barkis’s full name is Barkis Finbar Campbell Bittern
-Emily met Lord Barkis while she was on an outing with her parents. Her parents had their backs turned while Emily was talking with Barkis. After only a few minutes of talking, she was instantly smitten with him and she accepted his immediate proposal of marriage… and her mother and father were not happy about it at all. Emily and her father had a huge fight and she decided to elope with Barkis… but for her, it didn’t go as planned
-Barkis told her that if they were going to be together, they would need money. Emily wasn’t sure, but in the end, she agreed
-On the night she was running away, Emily stole not only her mother’s wedding dress, veil, gloves, and best shoes, but she also stole the jewels from her mother’s jewelry box and a large bag of gold from her father’s office
-As Emily was waiting for her fiancé that night, Barkis snuck up behind her, stabbed her, knocked her out cold, took all of her money and jewels, and buried her alive. She woke up in a shallow grave and tried to claw her way out before suffocating to death. That's why her hand was sticking out of the ground
-Barkis was married six times in his life. He and his first wife were married out of love until he found her cheating on him and killed her. The second was an elderly widow for her money. The third one got away before he could even hurt her, but she drowned herself in a deep, rushing river. The fourth was a drunken lonely woman who “accidentally” fell out of a two story window. The fifth being Emily and the sixth being Victoria
-In the Land of The Dead, Barkis was brutally beaten and ripped apart before he was imprisoned in an iron coffin chained seven feet underground with other criminals like him for all eternity
-After he ran away, Barkis studied linguistics in French, Latin, German, and Russian in order to impress others… or use different fake accents to fool them with
-Barkis’s original first name was Bradford and he had a rough upbringing. His father was a violent alcoholic and his mother was a reckless prostitute and they both abused Bradford as a child until he ran away from home at age sixteen and changed his name to Lord Barkis
-Barkis has a twin sister who had a son named Hector. Hector greatly looked up to his uncle and when he heard about what happened to Barkis, he was taken aback, but he also felt he could use that to his advantage. When he turned 30, Hector came to Burtonsville to exact revenge on the Van Dort family… but he also developed a vile infatuation with Emily. Whenever he tries to woo the young girl (which always fails since Emily finds him repulsive and cruel), Victor gladly steps in the way every time and he always sternly tells Hector to stay away from his daughter
-Mrs. Van Dort’s full name is Eleanor Minerva Fitzackley Van Dort
-Nell came from a lower class family. She lived with her father, mother, and three sisters. However, Nell wasn’t happy with her place in society and she wanted to became something more
-Nell and William first met when she was caught in the rain one stormy day and he offered her a ride home in his fish merchant carriage. She declined at first, but quickly gave in when it started to bucket down. As they rode together, they started chatting and soon became very interested in one another
-Nell and William made their way back to the village just in time to witness Emily's soul disappear into the night as a swarm of blue butterflies
-When she learned about Mayhew’s death, Nell quietly wept in her room about it. She might be overbearing, but deep down, she truly does care for the ones closest to her. She also adores her husband and son, even if she does find them a bit irritating. She just has a hard time showing her emotions
-Mr. Van Dort’s full name is William Oscar Van Dort
-William loves talk about fish and his business, he always tries to weasel in the topic whenever possible to his wife and son's annoyance
-William used to take Victor on fishing trips when he was younger, which practically bored Victor to death
-While he tends to be the more passive one in their relationship, William does put his foot down when the situation calls for it
-It may not seem like it, but William adores Victor and he tries to do whatever he can to be there for his son
-When Victor turned sixteen, William gave him a silver pocket watch with a design of a fish on the front and his initials
-Lady Everglot’s full name is Maudeline Hortense Glottberg Everglot
-Maudeline and Finis didn’t plan on having a child in the first place and Victoria came as more of a surprise
-Maudeline had a sister named Marie who loved playing the piano. They didn’t get along in their youth and they drifted apart as they grew up. Maudeline wasn’t even invited to Marie’s wedding to Lord Frederick Cartwell
-When Marie died, she left her piano to her sister, but Maudeline never touched it. She felt it brought back too many memories and forbade Victoria from going near it was well
-Lord Eveglot’s full name is Finis Augustus Everglot
-While he was disappointed in not having a son, Finis deeply cares for his daughter. He just doesn’t know how to show it
-Even though they’re not good at sharing their feelings, Maudeline and Finis do care for each other to some extent
-Hildegarde has lots of grandchildren and she visited their home in the countryside as often as she could before she passed away
-When he was alive, Bonejangles was a freelance jazz musician from America and his original name was Dexter. He was finishing a gig in England when he died in a horrible carriage accident (he was run over), which also caused him to lose his eyeball
-General Bonesapart and General Wellington were actually General Napoleon Bonaparte and English General Wellington, two real historical figures. However, even though they hated each other at first, they became real pals eventually
-Although they don't say it out loud, people in Burtonsville make fun of Maudeline's hair cut, calling her names like "Rump Head" or "Hairmungus"
-Elder Gutknecht is one of the many Afterlife Lords, responsible for managing the dead after they pass. Among them include God, the Devil, King Vince, Hades, Hel, Osiris, Odin, Freya, and, the Hindu God Yama
-The Underworld is actually thousands of miles underground and due to the magic surrounding it. Mortals can't access it unless they die themselves
-After his death, Mayhew kicked the habit of smoking altogether and is very glad he did
-Elder Gutknecht has a fearsome Hellhound by the name of Infernius, his fierce and ever loyal pet. He guards the entrance to the Land of the Dead and can breathe fire that heats up to 900 degrees
-The fellow who was cut cleanly in half was an English gentleman by the name of Herman, who lived in Burtonsville years before. He ended up meeting his death due to an accident involving a rather large guillotine
-Generals Bonesapart and Wellington are the leaders of army of the Land of the Dead, but are only called into combat in times of great peril
-The people of Burtonsville sometimes call Lord Everglot “Everglut” behind his back
-Victoria has a cousin by the name of Dolores. Dolores is something of a freeloading con artist who moved to America when she left home. She considers herself a very attractive woman, but she just wears too much makeup and rather revealing clothes and is actually rather sleazy in reality. She also smokes, which Victoria and the rest of the Everglots are strongly against
-When he was alive, Elder Gutknecht used to be a wise sage that helped people in their time of need. He passed away when he reached the age of 102
-The Everglots were a family of nobles with a significant amount of money, but due to a bit of excessive gambling (by Dolores), they lost almost everything
-Almost every member of the Everglot family is rather ugly due to bad genetics. Victoria considers herself very, VERY lucky to have not inherited such genes (she unknowingly received her natural beauty from her late Aunt Marie)
-Pastor Galswells was raised in a strict environment. He was taught that kindness was weakness and to be stern and firm with everyone. He passed away shortly after the official wedding of Victor and Victoria and a new pastor took his place. His name is Pastor Ivan Blackthorp and he’s much kinder and friendlier than Galswells ever was
-The reason Victor named his dog Scraps was because he only ate table scraps
-The people of Burtonsville have a secret inside joke about the squatty walk Finis Everglot does where they assume that he would jump like a toad and snatch up a fly at any moment
-Burtonsville is well known for its raven population and there's an old legend saying they're messengers to the Land of the Dead
-For some weird reason, William Van Dort is known to mutter the words "Fishy, fishy, fish" in his sleep and it honestly creeps Nell out
-Paul, the decapitated head waiter, was actually a French man who served Marie Antoinette during her reign. Unfortunately, he was unjustly executed by association with the queen when the French Revolution broke out and he was never able to find his body after he died
-Several people have assumed Maudeline's hair is an actual wig and she's bald under it… only to be mistaken, resulting in a whooping
-Lord Barkis was a master of disguise in life and was never caught by the police as a result
-The Underworld has a prison known as the Iron Tomb and it holds some pretty infamous inmates who include Bluebeard, Caligula, Henry VIII, Mary I of England, and many more
-The Town of Burtonsville was actually built on an ancient burial ground, which is possibly why the Land of the Dead is connected to it
-After her death, Emily was made the official guardian angel of the Van Dort family
This is all I've got so far, but feel free to tell me what you think and tell me which one is your favorite
