Lego Monkie Kid Rewatch: Season 3

Episode 8, Benched

Through my rewatch, I've been trying to pay attention to the smaller details and people in the show, so I can really appreciate the world.

Thank you animators, for taking the time to draw this disgruntled birb getting poofed by snow. There's no big reason here for the bird besides illustrating that its snowy now, which background scenery is already showing us. But nope! The show went the extra centimeter to include this lil birb, giving this world a little bit more depth and vitality.

"I didn't like how any of them turned out, though."

It's the circles isn't it. Circles are hard.

I love this city's design here so much!

The lanterns, snow, warm glowing signs. Look at that crane! Or the lotus! And those lantern kites! I love their mix of modern with traditional architecture! Please tell me they made a lego set of this city! And look at the people! I want every single one of these lego figures in that picture. Cute coats, cute hairs, cute winter accessories! And the toy monkey! I love it!

… ah…

Don't get me wrong. If I saw this before the show I would have thought it was a cool shopping district. But when compared to the ambiance the show gives and the background characters designs… It's just… sigh.

Monkey King casually throwing someone else' property and or merchandise like he oh so carefully threw the ring probably. Looked like a steam bun basket… ah! I bet there were some delicious baozi in there!!!

Love the accessories! So fitting that MK got a cute Monkey King stuffy. And Mei's lantern bag is the best 10/10 I would buy please give me.

I'm trying to figure out what accessories Monkey King got. I see the pin, but what are the patches on his hoodie?

Did…. Did Wukong buy a sticker pad and instead of pealing the stickers out, he pealed the whole backside and thwacked it to his clothes randomly?

Look at the way this image makes you feel. Grand. Warm. Dazzled. Festive. Cozy. Green, gold, and red all incorporated perfectly together to make a stunning block pallet! This is what we could have had! I want a set that makes me feel this!

At first I was kind of miffed that Macaque didn't just get the ring while the others were distracted. Like, come on Macaque. You're smarter than that. Wasn't he supposed to stop pulling his punches after LBD latest threats of complete deletion of his self?

But then I had a thought. Why does his shadow magic originate from under Tang? Does… does he need a living beings shadow to hop around? Was he unable to get up there unless someone else was there? That would be super cool mechanic of his powers!

Ah, maybe this is where MK gets his 'bluntly saying the very thing that makes people feel bad right to their face' trait.

I love that Tang doesn't even respond to Macaque's goading. Yeah, you can see the shadow's words hurt him. But Tang sees the bigger picture, and that's getting the ring before LBD's henchman gets it!

Knowing what I do now about the Journey to the West and the encounter Macaque and Tang Sanzang had with one another… makes this fight between them way more intense and impactful.

Familiar faces bringing up some bad memories there, eh Macaque?

Once again, Macaque is blinded by his flawed perspective. His whole speech is about Wukong. No mention of MK, the main hero. Or Pigsy, the sensible one. Or Sandy, the caretaker. Or Mei, the passion. Macaque is acting like Wukong is the only opinion that matters in the team. As if the other's don't even exist. But a team is not a single player, it is defined and strengthened by all of its parts.

And this is Macaques greatest flaw. He does not look past Wukong's shadow or his own past.

"I know that my place is along side my friends. One day, I will become someone they can depend on, the way that I can always depend on them!"

Tang reminding us that we don't need power or wealth to matter, our true friends and family care for us because its 'us.' They are people we trust and look up to and who inspire us to become the best versions of ourselves.

THE BIRB MAN IS HERE!!

Okay so, a couple months back, I decided to commission a plush of Ansel Beauregard from “Arlo the Alligator Boy” (specifically in a Chibi sort of style since I thought it’d look cute - and it does! ^v^) from the amazing plush artist known as Michael K. AKA mdkarydas.

I had already commissioned him a couple years back to make me a White Pantera plush (as seen in the second photo) so I knew he was gonna do a great job and I was absolutely right! ^v^

The Ansel plush he made me is not only super detailed and design-accurate but also extremely soft and super huggable (seriously I cannot get over how huggable he is omg) and just exactly what I wanted!

Michael has a real talent for making super high quality plushies (specifically OC and animated movie/cartoon-based plushies) so if you’ve got a character you want plushie-fied, he’s your guy. That is an insane amount of improvement for only 2-3 months between those examples. Not to mention, each piece is drastically different. I'm sorry to say that this is AI-generated and should be tagged as such.

Now, @mysticalcrowthings I don't like doing this but what you are doing is wrong. AI art takes from art all over the web to make those images meaning it is STEALING art from other artists and using their resources without their permission. AI isn't talent. Anyone can put a word or image into AI and hit the button enough times to get something halfway decent. AI is a tool that should be used to learn from or to be like "Hey look what the bot did! Isn't that neat how it did that?"

Making AI art does not make you an artist. You did nothing.

Ai art is its own thing and should be tagged as such.

This may sound a bit harsh but I just want to think that this is from a young mind who lost their way a bit and tried to go for a quick grab at fame.

Listen. I highly doubt you will read this but I do not want you to give up on your art because it didn't get a lot of notice initially and a bot could do it better. You have a great foundation and a wonderful start on both traditional and digital pieces! The best thing you can do as an artist is practice and keep LEARNING. We all start somewhere!

There are tutorials for everything everywhere! I want you to be as good as that someday! So I hope you realize your mistake and get back on the right path because this one is just going to end in you giving up art for good, from being discouraged and outcasted by the fandom spaces you love to frequent.

As I said, I've written the the duo/trio/group names down idgwjsy this is not all of it since idk some and I refuse to acknowledge MANY. (Will be updating constantly methinks)

I'm sorry for everyone who finds duo/trio/group names cringe and want them to end, but this is literally a way for me to organize stuff and make it easier for me. Yeah they're annoying sometimes, but duo names help me find art/analysis/general information about a friendship in the server without having to search up individual names. Because everyone has stuff other than that one specific friendship.

Like, if I search up 'Foolish Gamers' hoping to find some good Castleduo content, I will NOT find it easily. If I search up 'Foolish Gamers and Cellbit' I will only see stuff about them individually and not together. What I'm saying is, duo names are there (at least for me) for accessibility. And I don't WANT to combine their names because that's what fandoms usually do for romantic ships, which duo names are decidedly NOT.

But I do agree that the fandom should stop naming duos by the players' first random interaction. Stressduo? Really? Stop it, I BEG. At least think of something creative ToT

Cucurucho Buddies - Jaiden and Foolish (They named themselves, it's because they both like Cucurucho despite it being evil)

Castleduo - Cellbit and Foolish (They built a castle together and bonded during it)

Landduo - BBH and Foolish (They fought over land during dsmp)

The Jaidens - BBH, Foolish, Cellbit, and Jaiden (They went on an adventure together to complete Jaiden's quest)

Guapoduo - Roier and Cellbit (They call each other Guapito and Gatinho respectively and they're both handsome… ig)

Builderduo - Vegetta and Foolish (They are both amazing builders)

Granduo - Foolish and Richarlyson (They are grandma and grandson <3)

Silly Squad - Foolish, Pac, Mike, and Felps (They are all cartoon characters, very silly people together)

Sweetduo - Etoiles and BBH (They are two of the sweetest people in the server)

Drama Trio - BBH, Forever, and Baghera (They are three dramatic bitches, especially with each other)

Hideduo - Pac and Fit (They formed a truly meaningful bond during hide and seek)

Smoothduo - Pac and Felps (I honestly don't know, they're both smooth af??)

Mustard Duo/Silly Duo - Felps and Foolish (They are very silly, both are attached to Mr. Mustard)

Securityduo - Foolish and Etoiles (They are security guard + client. Always and forever)

Insaneduo - Forever and Cellbit (They have both called each other insane at some point or another)

Crazyduo - Forever and Quackity (They're both crazy when together)

Loansharkduo/Buffduo - Foolish and Quackity (They were both part of Las Nevadas during dsmp and the other one is because Foosh is buff and there's a clip somewhere of a buff guy everyone thought was Quackity)

Theory Bros - BBH, Foolish, and Maximus (They were the three who originally theorized about the Island)

Furryduo - Aypierre and Max (They started the Furry club together)

Birdduo - Baghera and Jaiden (They are both birbs)

Goldfishduo - Baghera and Foolish (Foolish canonized Baghera's 1% part fish)

Roseduo/Federationduo - Jaiden and Cellbit (Jaiden let Cellbit visit Bobby Fields and both have strong ties with the Federation)

Sunsetduo/Atardecerduo/Parrotduo - Jaiden and Roier (They often watch the sunset together to remember Bobby & they often parrot each other)

Domingoduo - Leo and Chayanne (They are the two eggs who almost always gets to sunday before they finish tasks)

Musicduo - Wilbur and Tallulah (They are both musically talented)

Deathduo - Philza and Missa (They are both death associated)

Late Night Trio - Dapper, Richas, and Pomme (They are often online during the graveyard stream shift)

Theoryduo - BBH and Max (They were the two first people who started theorizing)

Sounboardduo/Propellerduo - Baghera and Max (They kept using soundboards at each other for SO long & both Baghera and Maximus' late son Trump has/had propeller hats)

Gossipduo - Cellbit and BBH (They like to gossip with each other)

Dappleduo - Dapper and Pomme (They are dapper and apple)

Starduo - Foolish and Tina (They had a Stardew Valley world together and hung out a lot <3)

Favela Five - Felps, Cellbit, Forever, Pac e Mike (They created the Favela together and are the five Brazilian players in the server)

The Mikus - Jaiden and Richarlyson (They named themselves, they both love Hatsune Miku)

Traitor Trio/Federation Trio- Jaiden, Cellbit, and Foolish (They were all perceived as traitors at some point in their lives, no they are not traitors as far as we know & they were the first three people to get jobs from the Feds)

Dapduo - Slimecicle and Quackity (There was a time they kept saying "Dap me up" at each other, not sure lmfao)

Demonduo - BBH and Ironmouse (They are both demons)

Immortal Pen Pals - Foolish and Philza (They interacted mostly through game chat and barely saw each other during dsmp)

Bubbleduo (I think??)- Jaiden and Cucurucho (They like their bubbles)

Tntduo - Wilbur and Quackity (Their characters during dsmp were very very fond and notorious for tnt)

Lampduo - BBH and Baghera (BBH got lamps from the Federation and gave one to Baghera as a sign of trust)

Siblingduo - Baghera and Forever (They are siblings your honor)

Misclickduo - Mariana and Slimecicle (They are both notorious egg death misclickers)

Fonduo - Slimecicle and Baghera (They bonded over fondue)

Codebreakerduo - Etoiles and Philza (They have the biggest beef with the codes)

Djduo - Antoine and Etoiles (They became djs for a day for a charity event :D)

The Squirrels - Tubbo and Foolish (They named themselves, because they cause problems for the Federation)

Suntrio - Jaiden, Cellbit, and Roier (They are all very attached to the sun because of Bobby)

Eclipseduo - BBH and Forever (They are the opposites of each other, the sun to one's moon)

Mazerunner trio/XYZ trio/ Pen De y Jo - Tubbo, Slimecicle, and Roier (They were the ones who were contacted and directed to finding the maze under the wall)

so while i'm still in the middle of my playthrough for emilia!rook, i still wanted to be able to keep track of the little bits and pieces of her backstory and #justlittlerookthings that come up based on reactions to in game events and my talking nonstop about her outside of it. also as a reminder, as far as my rook's canon is concerned, any mention of luc.anis is @spitecrow, specifically 💜.

emilia is born in trevis.o, her parents ( distantly orlesian by a generation or three, but nothing about that place holds any significance for anyone in the family, tbh. and don't hold your breath for too many kind words about the chantry coming out of her mouth ) both working within king fulgen.o II's household. it's here emliia's mother sarah befriends viag.o's mother, and even though viag.o is a good few years older than her, the two often will play together ( more like viag.o's patient enough to deal with the ball of energy that is a young emilia ). her parents pass when she's 11, and with no other place to go, viag.o suggests she joins him in the ranks of the crows. ( she'll joke that he's reached the peak of desperation for a sibling since the vast majority of the king's illigitimate children opt for exile. )

up until joining the crows, her name is florrent, like her parents. as a gesture of love to her ( adoptive, but don't say it in front of her ) big brother, she takes on the surname 'de riva'.

viag.o tries to have her follow in his footsteps as a poisoner extraordinare, but emilia has a tendency to sometimes .... improvise some of the recipes. she's gotten herself pretty ill on more than one occasion unintentionally. it doesn't mean she's terrible at mixing poisons, she just has to really focus on them and take her time. 

it's about this time she ( and viag.o ) realize she's much more deft with a blade than with vials.

she focuses her talents towards dueling more than subterfuge, which results on her rising through the ranks of the crows fairly quickly.

being around crows from a relatively early age through her connection with viag.o, she absolutely 100% knows who lucani.s is ( and illari.o. and what a pain in the ass the latter is ) and has probably seen him in passing while she was still a fledgling ( probably with little baby birb heart eyes tbh ). so we are ignoring any / all dialogue choices in the se.a of blood questline that makes it sound like roo.k has no idea who the demon of vyrantiu.m is or his reputation. she knows.

the crows will call her rook after her return to trevis.o, no exceptions. not even viag.o or tei.a. there's only two people who can / will call her emilia, and it's saved for private conversations. varri.c of course uses emilia when he needs her to listen ( 'kid' is far more playful. if she hears him say emilia, she knows she's in trouble. ) .... or if one of them was sure they were .02 seconds away from meeting the Maker. the other is lucani.s / spitecrow and he's got very good timing when it comes to using it.

speaking of, a shared headcanon w/ spitecrow is that after they're committed to each other, lucani.s gives rook a small vial of his blood for her to keep. ( metric wrote a beautiful post about it and there's no way i'm going to even attempt to summarize, so please go look at their gorgeous writing here ) it's a gesture and a token of his feelings she certainly doesn't take lightly --- especially knowing all about the last time someone had his blood in a vial. she wears it always, tucked under her leathers or whatever she cares to wear around the lighthouse. in several ways, it's the most precious thing she owns.

her sweet tooth is made worse after being able to visit tervi.so again; there's a pastry shop that makes amaretti cookies that she would probably kill for. ( but not yet, ..... today )

sombra de riva is her adopted stray cat from trevis.o and unofficial official veil.guard companion.

sees bellar.a very much as a little sister regardless of age. it's very must protect the vei.l jump.er. mostly from herself.

way too competitive when it comes to wicke.d grace. scary poker - face levels. do not engage unless you want to lose your shirt.

She angry cried when she wasn't able to distract me during our frist preformance.

No.

Yes, usually when an argument is really pointless

Their style, the way people express themselves through their clothing is really neat. Of course my style says 'I have to deal with a half'

Blue, but our left eye is a darker shade and has a little snowflake shape pupil.

"Was never really into sports, but maybe that's just cause a lot of schools would never let halved play."

Chapter 9: A birb

“…I’m not sure I know, my lady.” Eloise took Marinette’s hand, bending down to check over the girl. She reached another hand to Marinette’s cheek and the small girl felt a sting.

Through the whole commotion, Marinette got a cut on her cheek. Blood was slowly going down her face.

Eloise scooped up Marinette quickly, looking down at the girl she held in her arms. “I’m going to bring you to someone that will help you. Just hold on tight to me.”

Marinette nodded, eyes wide as she clutched onto the woman’s clothes. Eloise adjusted Marinette in her arms to pull something out of her pocket, a purple marble, and threw it to the ground. After a quick flash, they appeared in a dark, barely lit room.

“My lady, are you alright?” Eloise sat the girl down, a hand going up to trace the cut in her cheek.

Marinette flinched, eyes closing as the cut stung her face.

“‘M fine.” Marinette mumbled, opening her eyes and looking around the room. Books were scattered and stacked around everywhere, shelves held random papers, and in the middle of the room, there was a chalk drawing of a cloak on the ground.

Eloise smiled at the girl before going to chalk drawing and mumbling a few words. After a moment, the chalk lit up and wind started to scatter around the paper in the room.

“You summoned me.” An elegant, soft voice spoke into Marinette’s ears, causing the girl to squeal and hold her ear. Purple smoke filled the room and Marinette could only stare with wide eyes as a purple cloak came into view.

There she was-

Raven- the character Marinette admired most, an idol of her’s, you could say.

A body began to take shape on top of the chalk, with skin the color of ash. First, Marinette could make out flimsy, purple fabric boots. But as she looked up, her heart skipped a beat. There in front of her was Raven, a character she held dear to her heart. Raven had dark purple hair that framed her delicate gray face, cut right to her nape. The eyes drew Marinette in, an unrealistic purple that held knowledge beyond years. But right in the center, shined a red gem, sparkling in the candle light. Raven also wore a simple black leotard that covered her stomach and arms, decorated with gold and red accessories.

“My lady, please meet Sir Raven, a talented wizard and knight of Titans.” Eloise introduced the figure, bowing at the individual. The figure looked slightly uncomfortable but didn’t say anything.

“It is a pleasure to meet you, Sir Raven.” Marinette greeted the woman, bowing before letting out a soft pained noise. Her hand went to her cheek to hold the wound as it started bleeding. Raven immediately reacted, rushing forward and muttering a spell.

“How does that feel?” Raven held the girl’s face in her hand, softly swiping at the wound with her thumb. Her eyes held concern, staring Marinette in the face.

“I-it’s fine.” Marinette stuttered, her hands twisting together, tension was prominent in her shoulders. She stared up at the beautiful woman with wide eyes.

“Good.” Raven stood up, the cloak coming over her to cover her body. “Was that all?”

“Yes, Sir. Thank you for your help.” Eloise bowed, eyes closed.

Raven began to walk towards the chalk but Marinette stopped her with a soft pull on her cloak. Raven raised her eyebrows at the young girl.

“Wait!” Marinette bit her lips. “Please teach me magic!”

“And why should I?” Raven kneeled, staring the girl in her eyes.

“I.. I need to be able to survive on my own- I need to be able to use magic.”

“What use does a little girl like you have with magic and knowing how to survive?”

Marinette looked down at the ground, taking in a deep breath.

“I need to change my future. I will not just be a girl sold off to a man of status. I will be my own human being- not a wife.”

Raven grinned at the girl, a look of excitement in her eyes.

“Come here when you’re ready and I’ll teach you- but it will only be for a couple moments at a time, okay?”

Marinette broke out in smiles, eyes glittering with emotion. “Oh thank you- thank you!”

Eloise cleared her throat.

“Make sure to study before coming to see me. Have the answer to the question: what is magic?” Raven stood in the center of the chalk, giving the girl a soft smile. “These lessons will cost you though.”

“I’m sure the dukedom has enough money to pay you for lessons.”

“I won’t be taking money as payment.” Raven’s eyes flashed red, a grin on her face before they returned back to purple. “Do we have a deal?”

“Yes.”

“Perfect.” Purple smoke filled the room and violent winds knocked over Marinette- suddenly, Raven was gone.

“Is this okay, my lady?” Eloise carefully scrubbed at her scalp, massaging her head with expensive rose shampoo. It was in a pink glass bottle that Marinette was currently admiring.

“Yes, you’re actually being pretty soft.” Marinette responded, water splashing a bit as she turned around in the tub to face her. “I have a quick question for you.”

“Yes, my lady?” Eloise continued to scrub softly.

“How do you know Raven? Or at least how do you summon her?”

“Raven owes a debt to the duchy and so we are able to summon her at any moment. I don’t know her personally, but I have had to summon her a few times when the doctors were unable to heal you. I thought it was a good time for you to meet her.”

“I see. Can we go to the library tomorrow? I’d like to get started on learning about magic.” Marinette stared at the woman with big eyes. Eloise was unable to turn away from the sparkles, eyes squinting from the light it gave off.

“Of course, my lady. But be careful not to try to use magic without Sir Raven’s permission.”

“I promise!” Marinette crossed her fingers behind her back, giving the woman a bright smile.

“Good, then let’s finish up here, shall we?” Eloise gave the girl a soft smile in return, not seeing the look Marinette shared with her ‘doll’.
